How To Determine If I Should Use A Template Or Custom...
1. In order to determine if I should use a template or custom build a site, I would evaluate the needs
for the website first. For instance, if a website is small, needs to be changed constantly, and the
customer wants a website that looks like other business s, a template would be the best use because
one can implement a CMS like Wordpress. However, if a client needs to have more flexibility in terms
of usage and wants an overall better site/experience that in unique, a custom built website is the best
because a developer can tailor to the individual needs.
2. In an ideal world, a developer should have every tool available to them so they can produce only the
best websites. Although, most IDE s and other necessary tools that are used ... Show more content on

Yet I was afraid to invest normally through an exchange because I had no idea how to. Instead I took
all three of these ideas and strung them together with code to create a machine learning algorithm that
can trade a cryptocurrency profitably. While the idea is not entirely original, it is done in the stock
market everyday, the way I went about doing/ thinking about it was creative. I saw a problem that I
needed to answer, so I used everything that I had around me to get to the answer.
4. If I were a lead for a project, my default management style would have to be pull. In todays market,
I feel it is more beneficial to be a pull manager because one is fostering the development of a team.
Instead of being looked up to for all the answers, the manager is a part of the team and helps create the
discussion on how do we solve the problem at hand. This style of management creates a lot of
interactions between employees which creates a sense of purpose and this leads to creative ideas being
offered because the employee is a part of something greater; usually these creative ideas are generally
the solutions a push manager would implement anyways. Pull management has a good deal of
secondary benefits when solving an issue, although it can take more time to solve the original problem
because of the long route. In a situation where a solution is needed right away, push

I brought my right elbow into his head and he toppled over. I reached for my side arm, rolled away, up

Labor Movement Of The United States
Labor Resistance Throughout American history, many cultures have come to the United States in
search of a better life. Some cultural groups were brought here as indentured servants. In many cases
these different cultural groups have been separated from main stream culture, and have been exploited
for labor. Many of these people have become naturalized citizens, but were not subjected to the same
equality of the dominant Anglo Saxon race. Some individuals from these cultures began families, and
even though their children were born as American citizens, they were still treated as alien. A
comparison and contrast between four such cultures, African American, Asian American, Native
American, and Mexican American will demonstrate the oppression that these groups faced in terms of
labor and how they reacted. The Chinese and African people began to see a shift in how they were
used for labor or what type of labor they did. Due to the dwindling white indentured servants in
Virginia, and an increased demand for tobacco, Africans became a key source for labor for plantation
owners. (Sweet, 2004) During this time, punishment for Africans began to show more severity.
Another trend showed how plantation owners valued African workers over the white workers. This
value however, was demonstrated by much higher work quotas as well as longer times of required
service. These trends humiliate the Africans into enslavement. Slaves resistance to slavery came in
many forms. Resistance is

Beethoven Symphony Essay
Tyler Martin
Advanced Orchestration
Symphony no. 5 in C minor Beethoven s intent behind this piece is creating diversity out of unity. The
unifying idea of the work is a series of three short notes followed by one long note. The diversity of
the simple unifying idea therein is generated by the use of timbral development techniques and
expansion of the orchestra; however, there are several performance practices and technical issues that
impact the work s total realization. The score referenced throughout this essay is the Kalmus
Miniature Orchestra Scores version. Beethoven takes his initial motif, which is quite simple, and
fleshes it out via timbral orchestration. Throughout each movement, he carefully places developmental

The first appearance of the full original motif is in measure fourteen, made of three eighth notes and
an agogically emphasized eighth on the downbeat of the next measure. This particular rendition is
used throughout this movement to hold bring sections of it together on a macro level (mm. 21, 23, 30,
79 85, etc.). Various instruments throughout the movement also adapt three short notes as pick notes
or as set up sections for a string of lesser articulated notes(mm. 15 Violins, 76 77 Violin II and Viola,
etc.). For the first time in music history, movement three sees the emancipation of the low strings. The
introductory statement of the movement is not made with violin, high wind, or even viola; it is made
with the celli and basses. The two instruments lend a sort of dark cast to the line that sounds
anticipating, almost in a foreboding sense. The anticipation is met with the original motif at measure
nineteen played by horns and accompanied by strings, which is then texturally expanded into the
entire orchestra, much like it has been at time in the previous two movements (mm. 19 44). This
movement, again conveniently in three, allows the motif to be interwoven throughout in much the
same way as the second movement while the theme from the beginning measures is also developed.
Further diversity is generated through the use of

Cannabis Argumentative Essay
A recreational toy for some, and a life changing medicine for others: which is the real face of such a
notorious substance? Cannabis, like many other psychoactive drugs, has been a prominent thorn in
society s side since the start of the twentieth century and perhaps even from before. Should we
continue to view it as we have, or do we take recent discoveries into account and turn over a new leaf?
According to current statistics, cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK. Interestingly,
however, cannabis is not a plant native to the British Isles. It has been theorised that the plant,
stemming from Continental Europe, was introduced towards the end of the Roman Occupation. Yet,
little is known about its early uses. Surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemp produced more durable fibres than stinging nettles or flax, and made it ideal for use in ropes,
nets, and canvas. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of cultivation. If hemp
was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each other for light. As such,
they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in long stems high in cellulose.
As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533, King Henry VIII compelled
landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of hemp; thereby ensuring an
adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet again, and even went as far as to
impose a fine of £5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible landlord who refused to grow it.
Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer able
to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the British
drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth in the
colonies. Moreover, the ships that transported supplies and protected these colonies also increased the
demand. After countless months of travel these ships would need repair. On average, each ship would
have had its two hundred tonnes of rigging and sailcloth replaced every two

Who Is Kitcher Inescapable Eugenics
I support the guidelines outlined by Kitcher for the use of genetic information because of their
responsible and ethical nature. I believe that future generations will benefit as a direct consequence of
these guidelines. I shall begin by defining eugenics as the study of human genetics to improve
inherited characteristics of the human race by the means of controlled selective breeding.
Chapter 8 of Kitcher s novel, Inescapable Eugenics, identifies past abuses of eugenics resulting from
inaccurate, misleading information; abuses that include dominant groups using eugenics to
discriminate against other undesirable groups.
In 1933, the Nazi s exercised eugenics as a direct way to rid individuals who were portrayed as unfit

By the conditions above, Kitcher states one main precondition. This precondition is the ability to form
a sense of self in order to set one s own personal values and to also take course of ones future path of
life . In Kitcher s point of view, the use of genetic information concerning embryos or fetuses is
permissible if and only if Fragile X, Lesch Nyhan, neurofibromatosis, and other similar severe
syndromes prevent even a modest quality of life . Under these circumstances, Kitcher justifies the
need for the use of genetic information to restore the ability to attain a decent quality of life and to
have the ability to satisfy desires that individual s value. Kitcher rejects relying on objective science, a
science that sometimes falsely labels diseases according to society views and biases. For example,
masturbation and homosexuality were falsely labeled as disorders. The outcomes of objective science
are unreliable and bring about social prejudices instead of promoting health and life .
A moral justification for genetic treatment is only as accurate as the justification of disease. In the
realms of objective science and the use of genetic testing, Kitcher argues that the basis for terminating
a pregnancy due to a severe syndrome can also lead to the basis for termination due to an undesired
sex or possibly even homosexuality. Ultimately, Kitcher supports only a minimalist approach to the

The State Of The United States Lotteries
In the United States, lotteries are coordinated by the legislature amid the colonial and revolutionary
period to raise assets which would be used to support infrastructure, bridges and schools. Amid the
post civil war, Congress authorized a progression of preventive policies which banned lottery
activities. From 1895 to 1963, each state banned lotteries and vetoed them as a source of
compensation. Consequently, in 1963, the state lottery was reinstated as a government, enterprise and
an origin of income by the state of New Hampshire. In many states the administration runs the lottery
as an imposing business model on a substantial scale for organized gambling. The only legal
competition that the lottery has, is with other state governments, ... Show more content on

The profit from managing the state lottery is measured as a tax on tickets sold for 60% of the public
adults that play (Hyman, 2014, p397).
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also
took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. So they said, Rather than
tearing it apart, let s throw dice for it. This fulfilled the Scripture that says, They divided my garments
among themselves and threw dice for my clothing. So that is what they did (John 19:23 24 NLT)
Lotteries are in a general sense not the same as other gambling in one essential way: they are afforded
only by the state. The lottery is more than a disputable approach to add a minimal expenditure to state
capitals. Some may argue that lotteries are a tax on the underprivileged, a tax on individuals who are
mathematically challenged, even a tax on the stupid, but most people don t actually believe the lottery
is a tax. According to Henry Fielding Lotteries are taxable, upon all the fools in creation; And Heav n

The Effects Of Static Frictional Force On The Motion Of...
8.0 Discussion
8.1 Analysis of Results
By analysing the data obtained from the experiment, two main trends were identified. Excluding
surface B (desk), the first trend observed showed that the amount of static frictional force resisting the
motion of the wooden block was substantially greater when the object was placed on a rough surface,
as opposed to when it was placed on a smooth surface.
This is understood through the numerical data compiled in Table 7.1, which indicates that surface A
(tiles) considered to be the smoothest surface in the experiment only had a friction coefficient value of
0.2401, whilst surface C (wood) considered to be the roughest surface indicated a much higher
coefficient value of 0.432. These results were found to correspond with almost all surfaces tested, with
surface D (carpet) found to have the second lowest coefficient value of 0.2477, and surface E
(bitumen), being found to have a much higher static friction coefficient value similar to that of wood
of 0.4233. This trend is further visualised in Graph 7.2, where the gradient line of Ff (rise) over Fn
(run) represents the coefficient of friction of each material the steeper the gradient, the higher the
coefficient value. Excluding surface B, the results gathered from the more rigid surfaces in the
experiment ( C E) are seen to form steeper gradients when plotted on the graph than the results
gathered by the smooth surfaces (B D), hence signifying that rougher materials

The Importance Of Deep Cryogenic Treatment
In a study by (González, Rodríguez et al. 2017) the influence of deep cryogenic treatment followed by
a double tempering at 150°C on the erosive wear resistance of high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) WC
10Co 4Cr coating was evaluated. Austenitic 304 stainless steel plates (400 mm_95 mm_7 mm) were
used as substrates. Agglomerated and sintered WC 10Co 4Cr Praxair spherical powder with particle
size ranging between 20 and 45 µm was used as feedstock. The coatings were fabricated by the HVOF
spray process using their own deposition parameters. Cryogenically treated coatings displayed better

cryogenically burnished surface, in which an average hardness increase of 9.5%, 17.5% and 24.8%
within the 200 m depth are achieved in comparison with the hardness values obtained from dry
burnishing, at the corresponding burnishing speeds of 25, 50 and 100 m/min. Refined surface layers
with ultra fine grains or nano grains could be generated during the burnishing process due to imposed
severe plastic deformation and the associated dynamic recrystallization (DRX). These harder layers

enhancing wear/corrosion resistance and increasing the fatigue life of the components. (Tillmann,

Masculinity And Style In Hemingway And Carver
Masculinity and Style in Hemingway and Carver. The following will present the themes of
masculinity in relation to style in Raymond Carver and Ernest Hemingway. Both are major figures of
20th century US fiction, and both write about characters that struggle with male or masculine identity
and social expectations. These struggles often mean that other characters in their stories are the
victims. In other words, the problems that the characters experience, are both internalized but also
externalized toward others and this will be examined with specific author selections. It will be argued

There is workplace degradation that happens to male characters in Carver stories, and these characters
are in turn, viewed as expressing these personal frustrations on those around them (Hall 177).
Hemingway wrote extensively about a character that will be examined in the following named Nick
Adams, and their own biographical parallel is a First World War experience that results in a dynamic
that gets played over and over. The character of Nick Adams like the figure of Hemingway, had to
return to a world after a shattering emotional war experience, and a good dimension of that world is
defined by the male expectations of it. The following will examine the theme of masculinity in
relation to style using two specific RC short stories. Cathedral and Why Don t you dance? are very
similar in structure and are useful for comparison. Both characters involve the dynamic of a couple

in both stories, the older male is partially defined by some eccentric and important features. In

The Relationship Between Gender And Power In A Streetcar...
The relationship between gender and power in A Street Car Named Desire
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams creates a strong relationship
between gender and power, and asserts that when both are unchecked and combined a force is created
which leads people to have no remorse while pursuing their desires. When the four main characters of
the play interact we see how this force is detrimental to the weaker characters. Being both immensely
masculine and powerful causes Stanley to torment the other main characters while chasing what he
wants. While Blanche possesses a domineering personality she is not masculine meaning society does
not grant her the same level of power Stanley possesses, allowing him to triumph over her. Mitch is
masculine but does not boast enough confidence to be powerful, and is therefore bullied and
manipulated by Stanley. As Stella is neither masculine nor confident and powerful, she falls victim to
repeated physical and emotional abuse by Stanley. With his overly masculine and domineering
personality, Stanley is a prime example of a top ranking alpha male. If his authority is challenged, he
responds violently to reinforce his position as the superior being. Williams depicts Stanley as an
extremely macho man who enjoys heartiness with men, his drink and food and games, his car, his
radio, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of the gaudy seed bearer (Sc. 1, P. 16) and is the
commander of his household. Additionally,

through the story, the narrator goes on to inform the reader that the boss son was killed in World War I,
and that the boss is still reeling from the death of his son. From a little hinted symbolism we can
connect that the fly itself represents the grief that the boss is going through, while the inkwell and life
are two of the same, and that the ink blots are the boss attempts at trying to fight the grief that has
overcome his life due to the tragic event that transpired. When the narrator first talks about the fly, it is
at the moment that the boss is looking at the photograph of his son and talking about how he passed
away six years earlier. The fly is said to have fallen into his broad ink pot, and was trying feebly but
desperately to clamber out again. The fly is seen as trying to get out of the pot. Very feebly, the boss
helps the fly out of the pot with his pen. The fly in this story comes to represent the boss that the grief
is going through because no matter how hard the fly tries to get out of the pot by itself, it could not
without a little bit of help. Unlike Woodifield, who got over the death of his son, unlike Macey, who
was not close to the son, the boss could not get over the death of his son. In addition, we are told that
the boss has been

WTO GAMMA Round Malaysia s Trade Agreements
Malaysia is one of the fastest growing and most open economies of our decade (World Bank 2017). Its
geographical location plays a large role in this. Malaysia neighbors Singapore, Thailand, and borders
the Gulf of Thailand and the Malacca Straight. The east and west sides of the country are completely
exposed to bodies of water and near the global trade route which enhances the country s accessibility
and facilitates development and foreign trade. Malaysia s GDP is 296.4 billion USD (2016 WB) and is

Skilled workers are managers, professionals, and technicians and associate professionals. The
production of integrated circuits in Malaysia demands semi skilled workers, reinforcing that labor is
Malaysia s abundant factor of production resulting the country s comparative advantage in electronic

EVIDENCE:
According to the H O model countries export products that use their abundant and cheap factors of
production and import goods that use the countries scarce factors. In the case of Malaysia, it is
electronic integrated circuits. As stated before, it amounts to 40% of the country s total exports.
Although Malaysia s comparative advantage is in manufacturing electronic goods, its productivity is
decreasing. Malaysia s comparative advantage good does not fully align with the Heckscher Ohlin
(HO) Model which suggests that trade occurs between countries that have different resources where
one is labor abundant and the other capital abundant. In the case of Malaysia and its three major trade
partners who are capital abundant exports the same good that they import from Malaysia which is
labor abundant..
Although manufactured goods are where the comparative advantage lies, the country s productivity is
slowly decreasing and is being overrun by foreign competitors. This is due to the global economy
slowdown Malaysia has struggled to upgrade its industrial sector

Case Study Of Nokia
BRIEF ON CENTRAL ISSUE/ MAIN FOCUS AREA
Due to continuous innovation in technologies, cost of production has been reduced drastically and has
caused the emergence of new devices in the global handset market and competition among companies
have been increased heavily for survival. It has forced companies to change their business strategies.
Few big companies acquired small companies to increase their market share, few followed a brand
extension strategy by launching new products and hence increased their market penetration. For this
reason, an integration between Microsoft and Nokia, two market leaders in their own rights, may
create new opportunities to challenge the market.
This acquisition and consolidated case study discusses the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft.

Two Different Philosophical Views in Grendel and Beowulf...
Beowulf and Grendel are two tales similar in many ways, yet different from each other. These stories
are like a coin; you cannot have one side without the other. Just as the sides of a coin share the same
coin, these stories share a similar plot, a setting, and tell of the same events. The sides of a coin also
have differences as do Beowulf and Grendel. In the case of these two tales this difference is in their
respective philosophical views. Beowulf portrays the philosophical views of life that many people still
regard today. Those views helped to shape and define the ideal Dane in their culture. For example, the
traits looked for among the Danes were honesty, bravery, and humility. These three requirements in

In contrast to the Danes of Beowulf , Grendel searched for his very reason of existence by asking the
questions Why? and How? for answers. Grendel started off in the book struggling with finding
meaning in his life while watching the people clearly doing things that gave their lives meaning. He
became upset as he saw that he couldn t deter their spirits no matter what he did and started to feel
jealous of their self found purpose. He realized that through various ways the people attained meaning.
In response to his confusion over their self discovered purpose, Grendel started listening to the Shaper

the meaning of life. After listening to the Shaper for a while, readers can see Grendel in a state of
contradiction. He started off killing people as a simple, bestial monstrosity but in the end he is shown
as quite intelligent and capable of choosing whether to kill or not. Soon, Grendel started seeking
answers to his questions from a dragon. The dragon s very philosophy on life was that there is no

The Golden Ass Literary Analysis
The beloved tale of Cupid and Psyche takes up a large portion of The Golden Ass, relative to the other
anecdotal interludes. Given the central placement, length and style, many readers have questioned its
relevance to the overarching story. Is it an artistic interlude providing a reprieve from harsher
circumstances, like the long description of Achilles shield in the Iliad, or does it advance the story?
While it is tempting to view the tale as an artistic interlude, the Tale of Cupid and Psyche perpetuates
the demonization of women in The Golden Ass, draws parallels between Psyche and Lucius, and
foreshadows the tragic fate of Charitë. Firstly, in the story of Cupid and Psyche, Psyche s two sisters
embody Lucius reoccurring view of women as evil and sexually insatiable. ... Show more content on

ACT OF 1990

EVSP411: Environmental Policy, Regulation, and law
Prof: Lisa Browning
NOVEMBER, 2017
The Pollution Prevention Act 1990 (PPA) came into existence in order to raise the interest in reducing
pollution from the source or in another word Pollution Prevention in a way which encourages efficient
cost reduction practice from the source.
This policy by the United State according to this act mandated that pollution be prevented and most
especially reduced from the source. It further states that, in an instance where pollution in unavoidably
or unable to be prevented, then recycling of such waste should be done considering the safety and well
being of the environment and the people. In a case where it is not possible to prevent pollution or
recycled, such need to be treated in a safe manner to protect to reduce any hazardous environment
(Burnett, 2000).
The act explains source reduction as such practice that will reduce the quality of all hazardous
substance, pollution or any contaminant that enters waste stream or that is released to the environment
before it is recycled, treated or disposed. It is a means to reduce any hazards caused to the health of
the public and the ecosystem in connection with the release of any pollutant.
PPA empowered EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to develop and co ordinate all pollution

Identity In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare wrote many plays, including Romeo and Juliet. The real title of the play is The
Extraordinary and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet takes place Verona in
the mid 1300 s. The idea of identity heavily impacts the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. By the end of
the play, family affiliation, gender, social class, and age all contribute to the tragedy of the play. Today
s idea of identity is drastically different than the 1300 s, but at the same time, they are very much
fraternal. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet s families were enemies, this caused them to have
forbidden love for one another. At the masquerade ball, Romeo and Juliet danced together, when

Abstract
America s critical infrastructure encompasses a large number of sectors such as agriculture, food,
water, public health and emergency sectors as well as providing the essential goods and services
Americans need to survive.
Critical Infrastructure
Protecting America s critical infrastructure and key assets is a formidable challenge. Our
technologically complex society creates an infinite amount of potential targets. It is pretty much
impossible to protect all of our assets all of the time.
There are thousands of critical infrastructure assets spread across the country and it is a monumental

Risk can be defined as R=f(C, V, T). R stands for the level of risk and helps to establish priority for a
critical infrastructure asset. C stands for the consequences of an attack on a particular target in terms
of general public health. V is an assessment of the vulnerability of a target. Some targets are more
easily attacked than others (Gaines and Kappeler, 2012). T stands for the likelihood that a target will
be attacked. Once security goals have been established and risk has been assessed the next thing to do
is establish security priorities. This should help planning and coordination between agencies with the
allocation of resources. A larger amount of resources will be needed for assets with higher risk than
the others. Prevention and mitigation efforts include various processes and security approaches or a
combination of measures. This process will help to provide substantial information relative to securing
critical infrastructure assets as well as implementing cost effective security measures (Gaines and

The Setting In The Most Dangerous Game
A man falls overboard and is lost at sea. He washes up on a strange island with no means of escape
and no possible way of contacting anyone to rescue him. He is trapped on the island. This is one way
the setting of The Most Dangerous Game enhances the plot by adding suspense, action and mystifying
image in the readers of the setting and adding an atmosphere of mystery.
The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story. If the story
hadn t taken in a place with thick forest, a large swamp, and most of all being on an island, this story
wouldn t have as interesting or suspenseful as it is. Since the setting is on an island with only
Rainsford and Zaroff, this gives a feeling of being trapped. As there is no escape but if the story was
on the mainland there would be a much easier means of escape. The forest also adds greatly to the
plot, as without the forest Rainsford could not have hid as well as he did, set many traps to help even
odds, and beat the Zaroff at his own game and ambush him in his own home. Without these key
setting pieces, The Most Dangerous Game would have been a much duller story.

setting being a thick overgrown jungle, Rainsford would have never been able to survive for as long as
he did. The jungle setting allowed Rainsford to make liberal use of traps and false trails to trick Zaroff

Love And Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
For human beings, decisions are made by how one feels. People who are rejected and disliked can feel
degraded and insignificant. Feeling this way can influence regretful and unjustifiable actions. This

What Did William Wilberforce Accomplish In Life
What did William Wilberforce accomplish in life? Why do we remember William Wilberforce? Why
was the Bible so important to him? William Wilberforce was a philanthropist, politician, legislator,
and abolitionist of slavery who grew up in Hull, a large seaport city on the northeast coast of Great
Britain, and as a child he went to the traditional Anglican church. By the age of 16, he went to
Cambridge University, where he met his good friend William Pitt the Younger who became a loyal

of aloofness and skepticism toward anyone who took Christian faith seriously. During his college

The Relationship Between Playing Musical Instruments And...
Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing musical
instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant requirement in passing
an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on some of how students can
improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing music instruments engages the
right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math problems involves the left hemisphere
of the brain. Playing musical instruments thus creates a correlation between the two brain hemispheres
and increases the brain thinking capacity. My prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly
increases a student s performance in math. The main purpose of this investigation is to determine
whether there is a relationship between playing musical instruments and increased performance in
math. Data that will be collected include the math grades (American Grading System) of students
playing musical instruments as well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to
determine how high students scored an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing
musical instruments. The data which will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students
both who play the instruments and those who do not. I will investigate the relationship between math
scores and play various musical instruments. I will collect data on the math scores of students playing

Panama And Paradise Papers
Outcry over the revelations indicated in the Panama and Paradise Papers demonstrates the significant
public concern with the usage of international tax havens. While tax arbitrage is often legal, many
stakeholders have serious ethical and legal reservations about a firm s tax avoidant behaviors.
Investors are becoming increasingly aware of the regulatory and reputational risks encountered in
secretive low tax jurisdictions. Furthermore, stockholders and creditors are also troubled that firms
engaging in tax avoidance are distracted from other activities that would enhance firm value.
Corporate tax avoidance matters, however, are difficult to analyze without consistent geographical

Furthermore, Form 10 K tax footnote disclosures are complex and relevant information is often not

potentially leading to cognitive overload.
Country by country reporting (CBCR) represents an alternative to these disclosure practices and better

management reporting preferences. Specifically, CBCR guidelines would require firms to provide

Tax fairness campaigners, including the Tax Justice Network and Publish What You Pay, contend that

tragedy in which a family of four living out on a secluded farm were slaughtered with a shotgun by the

I pivoted my upper half to my right and pulled his arm towards where my head once was, jamming the knife into the hardwood floor. I brought my right elbow into his head and he toppled over. I reached for my side arm, rolled away, up on to one side, aimed and fired twice. My pistol and eyes both rose up and to the left to the doorway and fired three more times. Both enemies, cancelled. I took what seemed like an eternity to curse, catch my breath and regroup myself. I stood up and realized the fight wasn t over. I still had to make it to my unit. • 5. Labor Movement Of The United States Labor Resistance Throughout American history, many cultures have come to the United States in search of a better life. Some cultural groups were brought here as indentured servants. In many cases these different cultural groups have been separated from main stream culture, and have been exploited for labor. Many of these people have become naturalized citizens, but were not subjected to the same equality of the dominant Anglo Saxon race. Some individuals from these cultures began families, and even though their children were born as American citizens, they were still treated as alien. A comparison and contrast between four such cultures, African American, Asian American, Native American, and Mexican American will demonstrate the oppression that these groups faced in terms of labor and how they reacted. The Chinese and African people began to see a shift in how they were used for labor or what type of labor they did. Due to the dwindling white indentured servants in Virginia, and an increased demand for tobacco, Africans became a key source for labor for plantation owners. (Sweet, 2004) During this time, punishment for Africans began to show more severity. Another trend showed how plantation owners valued African workers over the white workers. This value however, was demonstrated by much higher work quotas as well as longer times of required service. These trends humiliate the Africans into enslavement. Slaves resistance to slavery came in many forms. Resistance is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Beethoven Symphony Essay Tyler Martin Advanced Orchestration Symphony no. 5 in C minor Beethoven s intent behind this piece is creating diversity out of unity. The unifying idea of the work is a series of three short notes followed by one long note. The diversity of the simple unifying idea therein is generated by the use of timbral development techniques and expansion of the orchestra; however, there are several performance practices and technical issues that impact the work s total realization. The score referenced throughout this essay is the Kalmus Miniature Orchestra Scores version. Beethoven takes his initial motif, which is quite simple, and fleshes it out via timbral orchestration. This particular rendition is used throughout this movement to hold bring sections of it together on a macro level (mm. 21, 23, 30, 79 85, etc.). Various instruments throughout the movement also adapt three short notes as pick notes or as set up sections for a string of lesser articulated notes(mm. 15 Violins, 76 77 Violin II and Viola, etc.). For the first time in music history, movement three sees the emancipation of the low strings. The introductory statement of the movement is not made with violin, high wind, or even viola; it is made with the celli and basses. The two instruments lend a sort of dark cast to the line that sounds anticipating, almost in a foreboding sense. The anticipation is met with the original motif at measure nineteen played by horns and accompanied by strings, which is then texturally expanded into the entire orchestra, much like it has been at time in the previous two movements (mm. 19 44). This movement, again conveniently in three, allows the motif to be interwoven throughout in much the same way as the second movement while the theme from the beginning measures is also developed. Cannabis, like many other psychoactive drugs, has been a prominent thorn in society s side since the start of the twentieth century and perhaps even from before. Should we continue to view it as we have, or do we take recent discoveries into account and turn over a new leaf? According to current statistics, cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK. Interestingly, however, cannabis is not a plant native to the British Isles. It has been theorised that the plant, stemming from Continental Europe, was introduced towards the end of the Roman Occupation. Yet, little is known about its early uses. Surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hemp produced more durable fibres than stinging nettles or flax, and made it ideal for use in ropes, nets, and canvas. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of cultivation. If hemp was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each other for light. As such, they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in long stems high in cellulose. As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533, King Henry VIII compelled landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of hemp; thereby ensuring an adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet again, and even went as far as to impose a fine of £5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible landlord who refused to grow it. Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer able to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the British drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth in the colonies. Moreover, the ships that transported supplies and protected these colonies also increased the demand. After countless months of travel these ships would need repair. I believe that future generations will benefit as a direct consequence of these guidelines. Chapter 8 of Kitcher s novel, Inescapable Eugenics, identifies past abuses of eugenics resulting from inaccurate, misleading information; abuses that include dominant groups using eugenics to discriminate against other undesirable groups. By the conditions above, Kitcher states one main precondition. This precondition is the ability to form a sense of self in order to set one s own personal values and to also take course of ones future path of life . In Kitcher s point of view, the use of genetic information concerning embryos or fetuses is permissible if and only if Fragile X, Lesch Nyhan, neurofibromatosis, and other similar severe syndromes prevent even a modest quality of life . Under these circumstances, Kitcher justifies the need for the use of genetic information to restore the ability to attain a decent quality of life and to have the ability to satisfy desires that individual s value. Kitcher rejects relying on objective science, a science that sometimes falsely labels diseases according to society views and biases. For example, masturbation and homosexuality were falsely labeled as disorders. The outcomes of objective science are unreliable and bring about social prejudices instead of promoting health and life . A moral justification for genetic treatment is only as accurate as the justification of disease. The State Of The United States Lotteries In the United States, lotteries are coordinated by the legislature amid the colonial and revolutionary period to raise assets which would be used to support infrastructure, bridges and schools. From 1895 to 1963, each state banned lotteries and vetoed them as a source of compensation. Consequently, in 1963, the state lottery was reinstated as a government, enterprise and an origin of income by the state of New Hampshire. Excluding surface B (desk), the first trend observed showed that the amount of static frictional force resisting the motion of the wooden block was substantially greater when the object was placed on a rough surface, as opposed to when it was placed on a smooth surface. This is understood through the numerical data compiled in Table 7.1, which indicates that surface A (tiles) considered to be the smoothest surface in the experiment only had a friction coefficient value of 0.2401, whilst surface C (wood) considered to be the roughest surface indicated a much higher coefficient value of 0.432. These results were found to correspond with almost all surfaces tested, with surface D (carpet) found to have the second lowest coefficient value of 0.2477, and surface E (bitumen), being found to have a much higher static friction coefficient value similar to that of wood of 0.4233. This trend is further visualised in Graph 7.2, where the gradient line of Ff (rise) over Fn (run) represents the coefficient of friction of each material the steeper the gradient, the higher the coefficient value. Excluding surface B, the results gathered from the more rigid surfaces in the experiment ( C E) are seen to form steeper gradients when plotted on the graph than the results gathered by the smooth surfaces (B D), hence signifying that rougher materials ... The relationship between gender and power in A Street Car Named Desire In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams creates a strong relationship between gender and power, and asserts that when both are unchecked and combined a force is created which leads people to have no remorse while pursuing their desires. When the four main characters of the play interact we see how this force is detrimental to the weaker characters. Being both immensely masculine and powerful causes Stanley to torment the other main characters while chasing what he wants. While Blanche possesses a domineering personality she is not masculine meaning society does not grant her the same level of power Stanley possesses, allowing him to triumph over her. Mitch is masculine but does not boast enough confidence to be powerful, and is therefore bullied and manipulated by Stanley. As Stella is neither masculine nor confident and powerful, she falls victim to repeated physical and emotional abuse by Stanley. With his overly masculine and domineering personality, Stanley is a prime example of a top ranking alpha male. If his authority is challenged, he responds violently to reinforce his position as the superior being. Williams depicts Stanley as an extremely macho man who enjoys heartiness with men, his drink and food and games, his car, his radio, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of the gaudy seed bearer (Sc. 1, P. 16) and is the commander of his household. Continuing to read through the story, the narrator goes on to inform the reader that the boss son was killed in World War I, and that the boss is still reeling from the death of his son. From a little hinted symbolism we can connect that the fly itself represents the grief that the boss is going through, while the inkwell and life are two of the same, and that the ink blots are the boss attempts at trying to fight the grief that has overcome his life due to the tragic event that transpired. When the narrator first talks about the fly, it is at the moment that the boss is looking at the photograph of his son and talking about how he passed away six years earlier. The fly is said to have fallen into his broad ink pot, and was trying feebly but desperately to clamber out again. The fly is seen as trying to get out of the pot. Very feebly, the boss helps the fly out of the pot with his pen. He started off killing people as a simple, bestial monstrosity but in the end he is shown as quite intelligent and capable of choosing whether to kill or not. Soon, Grendel started seeking answers to his questions from a dragon. The dragon s very philosophy on life was that there is no meaning of life which started to influence Grendel. Upon Grendel s persistent questions of Why? , the dragon told him You improve them, my boy! Can t you see that yourself? You stimulate them! • 28. The Golden Ass Literary Analysis The beloved tale of Cupid and Psyche takes up a large portion of The Golden Ass, relative to the other anecdotal interludes. Given the central placement, length and style, many readers have questioned its relevance to the overarching story. Is it an artistic interlude providing a reprieve from harsher circumstances, like the long description of Achilles shield in the Iliad, or does it advance the story? While it is tempting to view the tale as an artistic interlude, the Tale of Cupid and Psyche perpetuates the demonization of women in The Golden Ass, draws parallels between Psyche and Lucius, and foreshadows the tragic fate of Charitë. Critical Infrastructure Protecting America s critical infrastructure and key assets is a formidable challenge. Our technologically complex society creates an infinite amount of potential targets. He washes up on a strange island with no means of escape and no possible way of contacting anyone to rescue him. He is trapped on the island. This is one way the setting of The Most Dangerous Game enhances the plot by adding suspense, action and mystifying image in the readers of the setting and adding an atmosphere of mystery. The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story. If the story hadn t taken in a place with thick forest, a large swamp, and most of all being on an island, this story wouldn t have as interesting or suspenseful as it is. Since the setting is on an island with only Rainsford and Zaroff, this gives a feeling of being trapped. As there is no escape but if the story was on the mainland there would be a much easier means of escape. The forest also adds greatly to the plot, as without the forest Rainsford could not have hid as well as he did, set many traps to help even odds, and beat the Zaroff at his own game and ambush him in his own home. Without these key setting pieces, The Most Dangerous Game would have been a much duller story. 2 Potempa The mystery the setting gives to the story is one of the major plot components that keeps The Most Dangerous Game a constant page turner. William Wilberforce was a philanthropist, politician, legislator, and abolitionist of slavery who grew up in Hull, a large seaport city on the northeast coast of Great Britain, and as a child he went to the traditional Anglican church. By the age of 16, he went to Cambridge University, where he met his good friend William Pitt the Younger who became a loyal supporter. Later in his life, he started to have doubts about his faith and culturally accepted the waters of aloofness and skepticism toward anyone who took Christian faith seriously. Over the years various researchers have raised concern about the relationship between playing musical instruments and performance in math. Performing well in math is a significant requirement in passing an examination. For this reason, extensive research has been conducted on some of how students can improve their performance in math. According to Cindy Zhan, playing music instruments engages the right hemisphere of the brain. On the other hand, tackling math problems involves the left hemisphere of the brain. Playing musical instruments thus creates a correlation between the two brain hemispheres and increases the brain thinking capacity. My prediction is that playing musical instruments greatly increases a student s performance in math. The main purpose of this investigation is to determine whether there is a relationship between playing musical instruments and increased performance in math. Data that will be collected include the math grades (American Grading System) of students playing musical instruments as well as for those who do not. The math scores will be used to determine how high students scored an overall grade in math and how good they are in playing musical instruments. The data which will be used will take the average score for 100 or more students both who play the instruments and those who do not.
