The Omo Site Of Ethiopia, Africa
In this research paper we will be discussing the Omo site in Ethiopia, Africa. Some key points that
will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was completed in
2005, Omo I and II s updated age (McDougall et al., 2005), and the scientific importance of the
discoveries from this site and what it means for idea of the first appearance of the modern human
(Fleagle et al., 2008).
In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya
National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial
exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull
fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known as Omo I and
Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of the cranium, and a
considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been described as being a modern
skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact neurocranium, which has been
described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). At that
time in 1967, researches faced a difficult time establishing an accurate age of these remains due in part
to the confines of technology. The team at this time decided to use a rather controversial method that
looked at radiometric dates on shells from a Nile oyster (Etheria elliptica) bank

The Purpose Of Government
What is the purpose of government?
Government is theoretically the driving force of a community of people. The government s purpose is
to maintain order, justice and security to their citizens. The Government is responsible for creating and
enforcing laws that are for the well being of the general public.
2) What would your ideal government look like (structure), and what would it do?
My ideal government would be both efficient and fair to it s people. Structurally, I would choose to
remain a democracy. In order to prevent extortion, elections would be held in blind fashion.
Neglecting to reveal the person s identity would allow one s thoughts and propositions to take the
forefront of the campaign s basis rather than one s physical

What Are Huck Finn s Life Lessons
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel based on morals and action. Huckleberry Finn or Huck
learns many lessons throughout his adventures in the deep south despite the social norm of the pre
Civil War era. Many of Huck s life lessons mature him as the novel goes on and makes him realize
how corrupted his world is. Huck learns that slaves are like white people, what s right and what s
wrong, and that not all people can be trusted. It s these lessons Huck learns that forms him into a man
throughout the novel.
Huck learning that slaves are like whites is one of the largest wake up calls to him. It is between
chapter 15 when Huck decides to play a prank on Jim. After the conundrum the wreckage from the
prank shows up on shore and Jim gets upset. Huck says It was fifteen minutes before I could work
myself up to go and humble a nigger, but I done it. (pg 83.). Then later on Jim tells Huck about his
deaf daughter and how he hit her. After this incident is mentioned Huck realizes black people care for
their families like white people do theirs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel Huck struggles with the an internal conflict whether to turn Jim in or not. Huck
had several opportunities to turn Jim in but he didn t. One opportunity was in chapter 16 when there
were men wanting to search huck for escaped slaves. Huck could ve gave Jim up but he didn t.
Another opportunity was when Huck was going to write to Miss Watson about Jim being captive. He
ripped the letter and says All right then, I ll go to hell! . All this says is that Huck realizes it would be
wrong to turn Jim in and by not doing it he s building his own

Organizational Culture As A Key Aspect That Influences...
Introduction
Engineering management is the science and art of organizing, staffing, planning, controlling and
directing work processes so as to obtain and achieve shared objectives and goals. Again, in
organizational culture, the discipline mainly deals with five human resources that include machines,
money, materials and time. When all that is obtained, an engineer in management should inculcate the
proper, efficient and effective utilization of resources in a short period with minimal costs. For that
purpose, in organizational culture, engineering management is considered as art because it utilizes the
skills and techniques of engineers doing work activities. Moreover, it is considered as a science
because it works hand in hand with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, the values are passed on from one generation or a group of people to another through
imitation and communication. In academic study and education, organizational culture comes forth as
one of the key issues in both organizational theory and management. In corporate life, cultural aspect
is central in all aspects of organizational life. For that reason, how engineers in an organization think,
feel, value and act are aided by ideas, meanings and beliefs of cultural nature.
The success of an engineering manager is being judged continuously on qualitative measures
concerning the work elements of human workers. Cultural change mechanisms together with other
management equipment should ably aid construction managers. In so doing, concepts like just in time,
continuous performance improvement and total quality management should be viewed as being
integral to cultural change efforts. For that purpose, the measures mentioned earlier require an
engineer to be skilled at methods, tools and techniques of qualitative issues. In general, this activity
involves systematizing and formulating the company s resources to implement on the objectives set in
the planning stage (Vincenti 66). Managers ought to gather employees and discuss the plans for the
upcoming schedules. Information must be dispersed to the various markets so they know one s target

were compensated for their time by partial repayment of their phone bill. Finally, in the third article
participants are the children of participants from a previous study. These individuals were those from
low income families with a single or remarried parent running the household. Each of the individuals
chosen to participate were interviewed and assessed for the existence of psychiatric issues.
Each of these studies received the go ahead from one source or another as far as ethics is concerned.
The first study received approval from the NHS Research Ethics Committee and their University s
Governance Committee. An example of ethical treatment in this study would be the requirement for
the interviews to be done in house and the presence of one of both parents during the testing of the
infant. The second study received institutional board approval and showed ethical treatment of the
subjects by ensuring that their interview process was not mentally or physically harmful to the parents
or children being studied. The third obtained informed consent from each of its study participants and
showed this through the use of their signed written consent forms. These three studies adhered to the
rules and regulations surrounding the study of human beings by obtaining and following ethical
guidelines. Approval from a board of ethics, the absence of physical or mental harm to

The Effects Of Media On Body Dissatisfaction Of Young...
The media is an important aspect of the current society and is ever present to the public. With the
creation of new technology, there are more and more ways the media can be received and displayed
for people to see everywhere they go. There are so many media sights nowadays such as Instagram,
Twitter, and Facebook, as well as new magazines, commercials and other media publications made
every day that allow people to connect to current events and new trends. Although today s media has
the potential to have a positive or negative impact on the lives of the people, there have been many
controversial debates on the impact of the media on the body dissatisfaction of young girls and
adolescents. Body dissatisfaction can be described as the negative self evaluation of one s own
appearance and to be more physically attractive, and is fairly common in young girls and adolescents.
Approximately one hundred studies of media effects on body dissatisfaction have been conducted with
the majority of these showing at least some evidence, (Ferguson, Munoz, Contreras, Velasquez). Many
psychological experts and specialists have explored the effect of the media on developing female girls
and adolescent body image to conclude whether it has a significant or insignificant impact on the body
image of female adolescents and young girls. In the current media, women are idealized as skinny,
airbrushed, and flawless. The media has been harshly criticized for creating and perpetuating a cultural

Safety Of Aspartame
The article Leading Scientists Around the World Confirm Safety of Aspartame has several problems
with their reasons that aspartame is safe. The expert team concluded through controlled scientific
studies that aspartame is safe. The study also states, Aspartame is a well characterized, thoroughly
studied, high intensity sweetener that has a long history of safe use in the food supply and can help
reduce the caloric content of a wide variety of foods (Leading Scientists). If aspartame is safe than
why have complaints been made to the FDA regarding the side effects of aspartame use? The side
effects included hallucinations, diarrhea, seizures, depression, migraine, fatigue and insomnia. The

that states aspartame has undergone numerous testing and with the exception of a few slight side
effects, aspartame seems to be rather safe. The article indicated that the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) evaluated more than 500 reports on the problems associated with aspartame. The reports
showed that two thirds of the people suffered neurological problems while one quarter of the people
suffered gastrointestinal problems. The neurological symptoms included headaches, mood alterations,
insomnia, dizziness, and fatigue. Abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting were the
gastrointestinal symptoms that people experienced. The CDC concluded that the side effects that
people reported were mild and are common in the overall public. I disagree with the conclusion that
aspartame is safe. If aspartame was truly safe there would have been no reason for people to make
reports concerning the side effects they experienced from consuming aspartame. Yes, it s true that
nothing is considered 100 percent safe, but after 500 reports were received on the consumption of
aspartame it s easy to concluded that aspartame is not safe. As with any report or study you read the
material is only as accurate as the data that backs it up. If you search the internet you will find
numerous reports, studies, and articles listing the side effects of aspartame. I can t imagine that all of

I didn t know at first that there were two languages in Canada. I just thought that there was one way to
speak to my father and another to speak to my mother. Louis St. Laurent. As the second French
Canadian prime minister of Canada, Louis St. Laurent had a very influential role to Canada. St
Laurent became prime minister in 1948, after a selection authorized by a Liberal Convention. He was
a well respected prime minister and was given the name Uncle Louis for reshaping and improving
Canada as an international well known country. Actions and policies, including the Trans Canada
Highway Act, the joining of Newfoundland and the St. Lawrence Seaway, were introduced by St
Laurent to impact Canada into a more developed country with a ... Show more content on

The Trans Canada highway was an important achievement for Canada and Louis St. Laurent s prime
minister career that was hugely beneficial for Canada due to its impact on the economy and the
convenience that was contributed by this amazing construction.
In order to build the Trans Canada highway, Newfoundland s decision to join Canada as one of the
marine provinces can be viewed as extremely meaningful. Newfoundland became part of Canada on
April 1st, 1949, and the following will be Louis St. Laurent s speech addressing on the entry of
Newfoundland into Confederation, representing Canada and on the behalf of the other nine provinces:
Newfoundland is in the very centre of the North Atlantic Community. Canada as a whole occupies a
large part of the North Atlantic area. The nations of that whole area will be more secure in the new
North Atlantic association. In the same way, Canada and Newfoundland will have greater security in
being bound together in federal union. From today all Canadians, old and new, will work as one to
preserve peace and to win security. And in a world where free people can work in security and peace,
the opportunities for the enlarged Canada, with its ten provinces, are immense. But while there is yet
room for improvement, there is no country in the world where that improvement is more possible, or
indeed, more certain. The wealth of Canada is

Russian Financial Crisis (1998)
Topic 3: Russian financial crisis (1998)
1.0 Introduction
Affected by the Southeast Asian financial crisis, Russia suffered from the financial crisis in May 1998
followed the crisis in October 1997. The crisis initially reflected on currency market and security
market. As a result, foreign capital about one third of the total amount of Russian national debts faced
large scale capital flight; exchange rate depreciated and stock market suffered a large setback; re
lending interest rate once reached up to 150%. Stock market, bond market and currency market
basically fell into halts, and banks were incapable to handle residents withdrawals. (Desai, 2000) In
brief, the operation of the whole financial system and economy was almost ... Show more content on

Therefore, the Russian government planned to issue 6 billion of European bonds in 1998. On July 13
1998, the government borrowed 22.6 billion dollars from western financial institutions led by IMF.
(Lucey and Voronkova, 2008)
Thirdly, the government prolonged the redemption date of all the debts to relieve the repayment peak.
The major problem for the Russian government was lack of debt paying ability to quick liabilities.
However, most of debts at that time were short term liabilities within one year. If the government
couldn t repay them in time, it would suffer from serious debt crisis in three years. Therefore, the
government must change the term structure of repayment and repaid quick liabilities by borrowing
funded debts. On August 1, the government published economic programs of stabilizing the finance,
but investors had no confidence about whether the programs could have expected effects. (Shleifer
and Treisman, 2000) Besides, the investors were not willing to buy Russian negotiable securities and
even dumped the securities in their hands. Facing internal and external troubles, the government
pushed three tough emergency measures such as enlarging the region of Rouble s exchange rate
fluctuations and turning the upper limit of Rouble s exchange rate down to 9.5:1, delaying 90 days of
repaying due external debts, and shifting the redemptions date of internal debts. Later, the Central
bank straightforward announced to let

The Portrayal Of Children s Books
Introduction
Children are highly acquiescent, and as such the media they consume is highly important in their
socialization. Taking into consideration the ubiquity of media and the degree to which it is entwined in
the lives of children, it is important that we be concerned with the themes presented in children s
media including books. As noted by Taylor (2003), Children s books are an important cultural
mechanism for teaching children gender roles. If children are exposed to stereotypical images in
children s books, they may adopt these as normative, and may adjust their actions accordingly
(Paynter, 2011). Given this, it is important to examine the representation(s) of gender in children s
books. In this paper I will discuss the depiction of gender in children s books, focusing particularly on
the manner in which boys and girls are portrayed in children s literature. In my discussion, I will draw
on Paul Kramer s children s book Maggie Goes on a Diet to illustrate problematic themes that are
prevalent in the current children s literature.
Literature Review
As social learning theory and gender schema theory explain, children exposed to gender role
stereotyping in the media, including children s literature, may internalize these gender stereotypes
(Bandura, 1971). According to gender schema theory, gendered characteristics are conserved and
transmitted to other members of a culture via schemata (Bem, 1993). Children form schemata of what

Society On Differences And The Impact Of Social Factors On...
Impact of Social Factors on Individuals and the Society on Differences in Health, Life Expectancy and
Achievement between Social Groups using two Sociological Perspectives. The issues of health, life
expectancy, and achievement between social groups are very important components of life for any
individual. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of thorough and total physical,
psychological, mental, intellectual, and social well standing. Therefore, health should not be
interpreted as simply the absence of illness or medical infirmity. Life expectancy refers to an
arithmetic or numerical measure of the mean number of years a person is prospected to live on earth,
with respect to factors such as the year of birth, the number of years already lived, sex, and other
demographic determinants. Achievement, on the other hand, is defined as the level of relative success
in the society after the attainment of a certain goal or objective. This is perceived by and in
comparison with the other members of the society. According to Tajfel (2008, p. 15), achievement is
thus measured using certain common parameters. These three components of life in the society have
acute and divergent differences and are majorly responsible for the dichotomy of social life. There are
some vital social factors that control these differences which include family size and structure,
religious beliefs, wealth, lifestyles, education level, and population growth rate. While discussing the

Reflection On Ponics Lesson
Phonics Lesson Reflection
15 points
As a future teacher, you will be self reflecting on your teaching and the activity that you had the class
complete as part of the lessons. By reflecting on what you presented in class, you will learn how to
and what to modify in future lessons which will help you become a stronger teacher (Ed TPA). Please
answer the following prompts (honestly) with a minimum of 4 sentences for each section.
1. How do you think the lesson went?
I personally think that my lesson went pretty well. It seemed like many people were engaged and they
participated. There are things that I could have done to make the activity more challenging for the
consonant digraphs and consonant blends, but overall I think the activity was fun. I felt like the
students payed attention to when I was speaking at the beginning and the end of the activity, which
was ideal for any lesson.
2. What were the strengths about the presentation (lesson and/or teaching) and why?
The strengths of the lesson in my opinion was the fact that the students could play a game while also
participating with consonant blends and consonant digraphs. Even though throwing buttons into a cup
is fun and the lesson involved competition, it still made the students think about consonant digraphs
and consonant blends. I also think that it helped the students realize how many words are made with
consonant blends and consonant digraphs, which will help with their phonemic awareness.

I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
Women have for many years struggled with balancing the demands of home, children and work. This
is especially true for young single mothers who do not have the support of family.
I Stand Here Ironing written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single
mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had
on her young daughter, Emily. This story is part of the awarding winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle,
which was first published in 1961 (Wolfe). This story is considered the most autobiographical of
Olsen s literary works (Piedmont Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line,
I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron (Bauer,
Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer
readers a glimpse into the lives of the working class women and families from a woman s perspective.
(Piedmont Marton) This story illustrates Olsen s particular concern with the difficulties faced by
women . (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to
create a dramatic sense of the mother s internal debate of her own feelings. The tone of this story is
one of fear, regret, and guilt. The story first leaves the reader with impression that it may be a recount
of the life of a daughter who was lost due to neglect. Soon it is evident

Blended Family Relationships
stepfamilies may sometimes have lack of parental warmth and negative interactions, which leads to
disruptiveness and/or antisocial behaviors. It takes time for the adolescent to adjust to the loss of a
parent in a household.
Adolescents will experience their custodial parent being unavailable, which makes the adolescent feel
like they have no parental support. Also, they will deal with stress not only from the divorce but from
remarrying. The adolescent who has a relationship with a non parental adult, friends, or an attachment
to school may counterpoise a stressful environment. Researchers found that girls are more likely to
confide in friends about their situation at home. Boys tend to spend time with their friends without
sharing what is on their mind, or spend time by themselves. Building a relationship with others as such
as neighbors will increase the chance of the adolescent not having a negative outcome. Adolescents in
divorced or blended families will be more likely to experience negative outcomes, because of the lack
of parental support (Rodgers Rose, 2002).

The Spleen
The spleen is the largest organ in the lymphatic system. In a unique way, the spleen combines both the
innate and adaptive immune responses as it contains all the components necessary for both functions.
Its macrophages, T killer cells and granulocytes mount the immediate responses against infection,
thereby constituting the first line of defense(innate immunity)(Zygmunt and Veldhoen 2011). While,
its B cells, plasma cells and T helper cells are responsible for adaptive immunity(Andoniou, Andrews
and Degli‐Esposti 2006). In addition to its immunological capacity of antibody formation and T cells
and B cells proliferation, it is responsible for blood filtration and destruction of old RBCs and
platelets. Moreover, in certain circumstances, the spleen acts as a hematopoietic organ(Gartner 2015).
In the innate immune system, the splenic lymphocytes produce cytokines and rapidly exert cytotoxic

It is a natural, complex and multi factorial process. The geriatric studies reported hyposplenism in
elderly persons. However, it is unclear whether the observed alterations in splenic function are
physiologically (the process of age itself) or pathologically (a consequence of age related diseases)?.
This question is of great clinical concern. It is believed that hyposplenism predisposes to infections,
autoimmune disorders and thrombosis(Pawelec et al. 2002, Effros, Cai and Linton 2003).
As the population ages, many diseases including, viral, autoimmune and even cancer will become
more prevalent. It is expected that, there will be a surge in older diseased patients, which will
challenge both healthcare institutions and healthcare professionals. Moreover, many conditions that
affect the elderly will occur in combination, thereby complicating care for any specific condition

Pros And Cons Of An Unwritten Constitution Of The UK
In order to ascertain if the United Kingdom ( UK ) has an uncontrolled constitution as the Attorney

Varsity Lake Benefits
One of the greatest benefits of attending University of Colorado is the beautiful scenery, which
surrounds the campus. The campus offers students variety of different spots where students may enjoy

scenery during the change of the seasons is absolutely beautiful. During fall, I would enjoy reading a
book or having my own quiet time. The small lake is open for all to enjoy whether it s reading on the

Office Automation System:
Office automation systems can take many forms, but their primary function remains the same
throughout, and that is to facilitate information exchange between people in an organization. Some of
these systems may include word processors, spreadsheets, email clients, file sharing systems,
databases, etc. The main benefit behind this type of technology is that the more freely that information
flows around an office, the more productive the environment is. With the increase in production, the
organization can raise its profits considerably as the efficiency of data exchange increases, allowing a
decrease in the time it takes to deliver the product to the customer. (Mills, Kevin (June 30, 2011) IT

bureaucracy, and a congressional committee. The three sides of the triangle reinforce one another with
mutual, protective influence. The iron triangles in Washington have been broadly successful in
shielding their program areas against drastic change. The strong alliance built between the three
parties on the three points of the triangle creates almost impenetrable fortresses that can control
policies on various issues. The interest groups often lobby members of the congress for favorable
policy. The members of congress often listen as well because they are depended on the interest groups

The Movie Whale Rider By Niki Caro
In the movie Whale Rider by Niki Caro, the theme is subjugation of women and the main character
Paikea manages to surpass the patriarchal beliefs so she is a winner which is good for the community
and that makes for a happy ending.
The main event of this movie is when the whales answer Paikea s call for help and end up stranded on
the shore. The locals are unable to move the whales, after many attempts they give up and walk away
with sadness. Then, Pai climbs up on the whale and rides it out to sea, making the rest of the whales
follow. At that moment she is unafraid of dying and goes underwater with the whale. The whales mean
a lot to their community because they believe that their ancestor Paikea was saved by the whales.
In the movie, Paikea decides to live up to her grandfather s expectations and to do so she challenges
the tradition by following her own path as a leader. An example of her determination is when she
learns how to fight with a taiaha by spying on the lesson through the window when Koro had told her
she couldn t learn it because she wasn t a boy. Her grandfather is the person with whom she is always
in confrontation. In fact, when the Marae was beginning she sat at the front row. Koro then tells her to
sit at the back because she is a girl, when she refuses to move he sends her away. On the inside, Pai is
trying to make Koro proud and to be a role model but she has to break the rules set by Koro and the
old traditions. Throughout the story she grows up

Burtons Case Study Essay
Burtons Casestudy
Managing Change
Ladislas Rice
1969 1975
1) When Rice took over as CEO at Burtons in 1969, the men s clothing industry was beginning to
have a higher demand. Due to the Beatle s era during the 60 s, men became more fashion conscience.
Up in till Rice was appointed, Burton s menswear specialised in made to measure suits but young
males were buying more ready to wear clothes. Competition was becoming stronger, coming from
Italian designers, which offered ready to wear suits and more colourful casual clothes. Not only were
these garments ready to wear but also they were less expensive to buy. This was becoming a serious
problem for Burtons and changes had to be made.
The first decision Rice made was to switch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
St Remy a French company was bought which retailed men and women clothes. Burtons wanted to
expand in France, as the market for made to measure clothes still had a high demand. This was also
bought to add volume to the Burtons factory, as it wasn t manufacturing to its full capacity due to the
slump in demand in Britain. Another acquisition was Evans Outside, which had 76 shops and
computerised stock control systems, which could help Burtons menswear deal with larger stocks with
increased productivity due to the move into ready to wear clothes. Also with the takeover the retail
skills of Cyril Spencer were acquired. Further acquisitions included Ryman Conram and Green s.
Ryman Conram sold stationary and had 75 retail outlets with four manufacturing units. Greens, then at
the beginning of its growth in the consumer market, were electrical goods retailer. In 1972, a separate
property company was established called Montage Burton Property Investment Limited.
3) Rice s strategy of diversification wasn t very successful; as the switch from made to measure

Time: Rice tried to change things to quickly which in the end slowed down the process of changing to

Saint Francis Of Assisi Research Paper
When something extraordinary is done by God in the Old Testament, he often changes the person s
name as a sign. So, in Catholic tradition, there are many life changing situations when a person takes
on a new name in addition or in place of the old one. Confirmation is one of these life changing
events, and, as per tradition, one who finishes confirmation chooses a patron saint to fill this name. I,
Darwin Diaz, have chosen the patron saint of animals and ecology, Saint Francis of Assisi. In this
essay will act as a report on Saint Francis of Assisi s life and will illustrate why i fell Saint Francis of
Assisi is the right patron saint for me.
Francis of Assisi was one of seven children born in late 1181 or early 1182 to Pietro di Bernardone
and Pica de Bourlemont. His father was in France on a business trip when Francis was born in Assisi,
his mother had him baptized as Giovanni. By age 14, he had left school and become known as a
rebellious teenager who frequently drank, partied and broke the city curfew while also being known
for his charm and self admiration. In 1201, he joined a military expedition against Perugia and was
taken as a prisoner at Collestrada, spending a year as a captive. When the war ended in 1203, Francis

have always considered a career in ecology. If I do choose a career in ecology in the future I hope to

Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds
Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my
head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of
confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not
commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the
campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime.
Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries
of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic
techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism,
and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout
the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods.
For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that
represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt
to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the
very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place
crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or
encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take
notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to
ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is
important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence.
Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film.
Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context,
too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from
school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the

The Vietnam War Protests
The Vietnam War protests happened in the 1960s in America and was a part of the Cold War. People
and specifically, youths, such as college students, protested mostly about the draft and the inhumane
conditions and implications of the war. There were many violent street protests that escalated into
violent riots and fires. The Tunisian or Jasmine Revolution took place from 2010 2011 in Tunisia. The
youth, such as young adults, protested mostly about government corruption such as repression of civil
liberties and rights. Both these protests were spurred and carried on mainly by passionate youth
activists. While the characteristics for youth activism in both America and Tunisia are similar in that
they both included violent protests and arson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Youth chose to protest because their peers, friends, and family members were being drafted as a part
of the Selective Service Act, which forced American men to register with a local draft board once they
became 18 years old (Brannan, the United States v. O Brien ). The draft made many youths upset
because they felt that it was unfair that the people they cared about were forced to fight in a war that
they did not believe in or want to fight in, as many felt that the United States soldiers were too harsh
towards the Vietnamese who posed no direct threat to the United States. It was felt that the young men
were fighting the war waged by old men. In addition, many felt empathetic towards the young men
who fought, as youth felt upset that some people who were the same age of them died, and that those
men could have been them. This is why many youths turned towards activism in order to protest
against the Vietnam War. Protests against the Vietnam War were a very common form of expression
on college campuses. One of the most famous protests on college campuses happened on the Kent
State University Campus in Kent, Ohio. The drafting of students, specifically for the invasion of
Cambodia, caused students to hold a rally on May 1st, 1970 and burn down the Reserve Officer
Training Corps (ROTC) building. There was another rally 4 days later, which included 2,000 students.
The National Guard showed up and opened fire killing 4 students and wounding 9 others. This event
became known as the Kent State Massacre (Batchelor, Kent State Massacre ). The students burned
down the ROTC building because some people would go there and enlist because they knew they
were going to get drafted, so enlisting would at least give them the choice to be higher in rank and
gain more privilege. Therefore, the ROTC building symbolized U.S. soldiers going to fight

promoted by the strict controls that exist in the official market and the transparency issue on duties. It

The forex for all prohibited goods brought into the country may also have this market as its source. It
is a widely held opinion that the substantial part of the supply to this market is sterilized official funds.
Most foreign exchange earners (with low corporate/individual compliance commitments) supply funds
to this market because of its higher rates i.e. premium over the official sources and confidentiality. The
premium that obtains here is primarily due to the absence of documentation.
The Cash/Travelers cheque (TC) market: This is the easiest of the markets to access. It commands the

The True Power Of Music
Music is an important factor to the life of every human. It invokes the the strongest of emotions and
can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the
mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of
music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music
follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world
would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes, As
stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural
activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary
advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s existence
is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude patterns that
the human brain can follow. The human brain attempts to find patterns in everything it performs, for
example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they may be unsure
what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of music but we
could both agree on that music brings people together. On the other hand, Tom de Castella, a writer for
BBC News Magazine, would argue, It can be lonely travelling through public space and using

Mixed Economy vs. Command Economy
An economic system defines how the various entities in an economy interact. People have defined an
economic system variously to include government policies, which is very important especially in
modern times. Ancient systems were pretty simple. Trade was done using systems like barter trade
which was very straight forward. People only exchanged what they had for what they needed, or
wanted. However, in modern monetary economies, the setting is quite intricate. Huge established
companies have a lot of influence in the way business is done. Treaties and agreements are made
every day, and governments have made numerous laws to define trade, thus warranting the need for a
more comprehensive definition of what an economic system is. An economic system can now be
described as an organized manner in which a particular government chooses to allocate goods and
services in the country. Modern economic systems are about more than just trade. They define the
values of a society, or a country, as well as the political structure of that society.
Two ways an economy can be organized are as a mixed economy or a command economy. A mixed
economy is an economic system that incorporates the characteristics of several different economic
systems. This usually means an economy that contains both private owned and state owned enterprises
or that combines elements of capitalism and socialism, or a mix of market economy and command
economy characteristics. There is not one single definition for a

the first step in sentiment analysis involves collection of data from user. These data are disorganized,
expressed in different ways by using different vocabularies, slangs, context of writing etc. Manual
analysis is almost impossible. Therefore, text analytics and natural language processing are used to
extract and classify[11]. ii) Preparation of the text : This step involves cleaning of the extracted data
before analyzing it. Here non textual and irrelevant content for the analysis are identified and
discarded iii) Detecting the sentiments: All the extracted sentences of the views and opinions are
studied. From this sentences with subjective expressions which involves opinions, beliefs and view are
retained back whereas sentences with objective communication i.e facts, factual information are
discarded iv) Classifying the sentiment: Here, subjective sentences are classified as positive, negative,
or good, bad or like, dislike[1] v) Output: The main objective of sentiment analysis is to convert
unstructured text into meaningful data. When the analysis is finished, the text results are displayed on

The Battle of Antietam started the morning of September 17, 1862 at 0600. Union troops of the First

hours of the battle; over 8,000 casualties were killed at this time. As Union General Joseph Hooker

el patron and that how when he says take another one he is talking about matt because he is going to
kill matt so he can harvest his organs so he can live longer. On page 241 tam lin the bodyguard who is
also matt s friend is taking him of the the field to kill him matt tries to headbutt him then this happens.
Ach ye pee brained ninny swore tam lin look out before you try something like that. then tam lin says

Jamie Bulgers Tackling Youth Justice System
Literature Review:
The concept of childhood suffered a dramatic change, following the murder of two year old Jamie
Bulger in 1993 committed by Robert Thompson and Jon Venables two ten year old boys. This event is
arguably the major turning point regarding the approach towards youth crime and youth justice within
England and Wales. (Barry, 2006).
This change began in 1996 when the Labour party released their Tackling Youth Crime, Reforming
Youth Justice paper which assessed the Youth Justice System and heavily criticised the lack of

How To Tattoos
After all, pro is short for professional, and there s a lot that goes into being a true professional in the
tattoo industry.
You may have decided you want to learn how to tattoo because you think the work looks interesting
and because you like the atmosphere in the tattoo shop. There is definitely a whole culture, or
subculture, when it comes to tattooing. Much of this comes from the fact that tattooing used to be
considered very subversive. Only the bad boys and bad girls got tattoos. Getting inked was a sign of

Probably the most important factor that determines your success is your actual ability. That s not to
say that it s the only factor, but if you don t learn how to tattoo well, then your chances of becoming a
pro are slim to none. You need to know how your equipment works, as well as how to perform any
number of specialized techniques. To get the most out of your tattooing career, you have to really put
yourself into it heart and soul. Study, learn, practice, and work hard.
Protect your reputation. Of course, doing high quality work is going to do a lot to bolster your
reputation. When your clients show off their art, you want their friends and families to say, Wow! I
want that artist to do my next tattoo! In addition to being good at giving tattoos, you also need to make
sure that you teach clients how to take care of their ink. The better they care for their tattoos, the better
those tattoos will look.
Conduct yourself professionally. Yes, tattoo artists are sometimes a little rough around the edges. They
may get away with using a bit of off color language and engaging in some behaviors that we might not
appreciate in our physician, for example. Still, a tattoo professional needs to be just that...a
professional. This means you need to take care of your appearance, keep your workspace in order, and
make clients feel secure and comfortable with

  • 2. The Omo Site Of Ethiopia, Africa In this research paper we will be discussing the Omo site in Ethiopia, Africa. Some key points that will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was completed in 2005, Omo I and II s updated age (McDougall et al., 2005), and the scientific importance of the discoveries from this site and what it means for idea of the first appearance of the modern human (Fleagle et al., 2008). In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull fossils of mammals. The team at this time decided to use a rather controversial method that looked at radiometric dates on shells from a Nile oyster (Etheria elliptica) bank ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are so many media sights nowadays such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as new magazines, commercials and other media publications made every day that allow people to connect to current events and new trends. Although today s media has the potential to have a positive or negative impact on the lives of the people, there have been many controversial debates on the impact of the media on the body dissatisfaction of young girls and adolescents. Body dissatisfaction can be described as the negative self evaluation of one s own appearance and to be more physically attractive, and is fairly common in young girls and adolescents. Approximately one hundred studies of media effects on body dissatisfaction have been conducted with the majority of these showing at least some evidence, (Ferguson, Munoz, Contreras, Velasquez). Many psychological experts and specialists have explored the effect of the media on developing female girls and adolescent body image to conclude whether it has a significant or insignificant impact on the body image of female adolescents and young girls. Newfoundland became part of Canada on April 1st, 1949, and the following will be Louis St. Laurent s speech addressing on the entry of Newfoundland into Confederation, representing Canada and on the behalf of the other nine provinces: Newfoundland is in the very centre of the North Atlantic Community. • 11. The Portrayal Of Children s Books Introduction Children are highly acquiescent, and as such the media they consume is highly important in their socialization. Taking into consideration the ubiquity of media and the degree to which it is entwined in the lives of children, it is important that we be concerned with the themes presented in children s media including books. As noted by Taylor (2003), Children s books are an important cultural mechanism for teaching children gender roles. If children are exposed to stereotypical images in children s books, they may adopt these as normative, and may adjust their actions accordingly (Paynter, 2011). Given this, it is important to examine the representation(s) of gender in children s books. In this paper I will discuss the depiction of gender in children s books, focusing particularly on the manner in which boys and girls are portrayed in children s literature. In my discussion, I will draw on Paul Kramer s children s book Maggie Goes on a Diet to illustrate problematic themes that are prevalent in the current children s literature. Literature Review As social learning theory and gender schema theory explain, children exposed to gender role stereotyping in the media, including children s literature, may internalize these gender stereotypes (Bandura, 1971). According to gender schema theory, gendered characteristics are conserved and transmitted to other members of a culture via schemata (Bem, 1993). Impact of Social Factors on Individuals and the Society on Differences in Health, Life Expectancy and Achievement between Social Groups using two Sociological Perspectives. The issues of health, life expectancy, and achievement between social groups are very important components of life for any individual. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of thorough and total physical, psychological, mental, intellectual, and social well standing. Therefore, health should not be interpreted as simply the absence of illness or medical infirmity. Life expectancy refers to an arithmetic or numerical measure of the mean number of years a person is prospected to live on earth, with respect to factors such as the year of birth, the number of years already lived, sex, and other demographic determinants. Achievement, on the other hand, is defined as the level of relative success in the society after the attainment of a certain goal or objective. This is perceived by and in comparison with the other members of the society. According to Tajfel (2008, p. 15), achievement is thus measured using certain common parameters. These three components of life in the society have acute and divergent differences and are majorly responsible for the dichotomy of social life. There are some vital social factors that control these differences which include family size and structure, religious beliefs, wealth, lifestyles, education level, and population growth rate. I felt like the students payed attention to when I was speaking at the beginning and the end of the activity, which was ideal for any lesson. 2. What were the strengths about the presentation (lesson and/or teaching) and why? The strengths of the lesson in my opinion was the fact that the students could play a game while also participating with consonant blends and consonant digraphs. Even though throwing buttons into a cup is fun and the lesson involved competition, it still made the students think about consonant digraphs and consonant blends. • 14. I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen Women have for many years struggled with balancing the demands of home, children and work. This is especially true for young single mothers who do not have the support of family. I Stand Here Ironing written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had on her young daughter, Emily. This story is part of the awarding winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle, which was first published in 1961 (Wolfe). This story is considered the most autobiographical of Olsen s literary works (Piedmont Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron (Bauer, Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer readers a glimpse into the lives of the working class women and families from a woman s perspective. (Piedmont Marton) This story illustrates Olsen s particular concern with the difficulties faced by women . (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to create a dramatic sense of the mother s internal debate of her own feelings. The tone of this story is one of fear, regret, and guilt. The story first leaves the reader with impression that it may be a recount of the life of a daughter who was lost due to neglect. The locals are unable to move the whales, after many attempts they give up and walk away with sadness. Then, Pai climbs up on the whale and rides it out to sea, making the rest of the whales follow. At that moment she is unafraid of dying and goes underwater with the whale. The whales mean a lot to their community because they believe that their ancestor Paikea was saved by the whales. In the movie, Paikea decides to live up to her grandfather s expectations and to do so she challenges the tradition by following her own path as a leader. An example of her determination is when she learns how to fight with a taiaha by spying on the lesson through the window when Koro had told her she couldn t learn it because she wasn t a boy. Her grandfather is the person with whom she is always in confrontation. In fact, when the Marae was beginning she sat at the front row. Koro then tells her to sit at the back because she is a girl, when she refuses to move he sends her away. On the inside, Pai is trying to make Koro proud and to be a role model but she has to break the rules set by Koro and the old traditions. Throughout the story she grows up ... Burtons Case Study Essay Burtons Casestudy Managing Change Ladislas Rice 1969 1975 1) When Rice took over as CEO at Burtons in 1969, the men s clothing industry was beginning to have a higher demand. Due to the Beatle s era during the 60 s, men became more fashion conscience. Up in till Rice was appointed, Burton s menswear specialised in made to measure suits but young males were buying more ready to wear clothes. Competition was becoming stronger, coming from Italian designers, which offered ready to wear suits and more colourful casual clothes. Not only were these garments ready to wear but also they were less expensive to buy. This was becoming a serious problem for Burtons and changes had to be made. The first decision Rice made was to switch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... St Remy a French company was bought which retailed men and women clothes. Burtons wanted to expand in France, as the market for made to measure clothes still had a high demand. This was also bought to add volume to the Burtons factory, as it wasn t manufacturing to its full capacity due to the slump in demand in Britain. Another acquisition was Evans Outside, which had 76 shops and computerised stock control systems, which could help Burtons menswear deal with larger stocks with increased productivity due to the move into ready to wear clothes. Also with the takeover the retail skills of Cyril Spencer were acquired. Further acquisitions included Ryman Conram and Green s. Ryman Conram sold stationary and had 75 retail outlets with four manufacturing units. Greens, then at the beginning of its growth in the consumer market, were electrical goods retailer. In 1972, a separate property company was established called Montage Burton Property Investment Limited. 3) Rice s strategy of diversification wasn t very successful; as the switch from made to measure clothes seemed to disappear. A way of showing this, can be done by using the Kaleidoscope analysis: Time: Rice tried to change things to quickly which in the end slowed down the process of changing to ready to wear clothing. • 28. Saint Francis Of Assisi Research Paper When something extraordinary is done by God in the Old Testament, he often changes the person s name as a sign. So, in Catholic tradition, there are many life changing situations when a person takes on a new name in addition or in place of the old one. Confirmation is one of these life changing events, and, as per tradition, one who finishes confirmation chooses a patron saint to fill this name. I, Darwin Diaz, have chosen the patron saint of animals and ecology, Saint Francis of Assisi. In this essay will act as a report on Saint Francis of Assisi s life and will illustrate why i fell Saint Francis of Assisi is the right patron saint for me. Francis of Assisi was one of seven children born in late 1181 or early 1182 to Pietro di Bernardone and Pica de Bourlemont. His father was in France on a business trip when Francis was born in Assisi, his mother had him baptized as Giovanni. By age 14, he had left school and become known as a rebellious teenager who frequently drank, partied and broke the city curfew while also being known for his charm and self admiration. In 1201, he joined a military expedition against Perugia and was taken as a prisoner at Collestrada, spending a year as a captive. When the war ended in 1203, Francis returned to a ... • 29. Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime. Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism, and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods. For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence. Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film. Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context, too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Youth chose to protest because their peers, friends, and family members were being drafted as a part of the Selective Service Act, which forced American men to register with a local draft board once they became 18 years old (Brannan, the United States v. O Brien ). The draft made many youths upset because they felt that it was unfair that the people they cared about were forced to fight in a war that they did not believe in or want to fight in, as many felt that the United States soldiers were too harsh towards the Vietnamese who posed no direct threat to the United States. It was felt that the young men were fighting the war waged by old men. In addition, many felt empathetic towards the young men who fought, as youth felt upset that some people who were the same age of them died, and that those men could have been them. This is why many youths turned towards activism in order to protest against the Vietnam War. Protests against the Vietnam War were a very common form of expression on college campuses. One of the most famous protests on college campuses happened on the Kent State University Campus in Kent, Ohio. The drafting of students, specifically for the invasion of Cambodia, caused students to hold a rally on May 1st, 1970 and burn down the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) building. There was another rally 4 days later, which included 2,000 students. The National Guard showed up and opened fire killing 4 students and wounding 9 others. This event became known as the Kent State Massacre (Batchelor, Kent State Massacre ). The students burned down the ROTC building because some people would go there and enlist because they knew they were going to get drafted, so enlisting would at least give them the choice to be higher in rank and gain more privilege. It invokes the the strongest of emotions and can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes, As stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s existence is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude patterns that the human brain can follow. The human brain attempts to find patterns in everything it performs, for example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they may be unsure what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of music but we could both agree on that music brings people together. • 35. Mixed Economy vs. Command Economy An economic system defines how the various entities in an economy interact. People have defined an economic system variously to include government policies, which is very important especially in modern times. Ancient systems were pretty simple. Trade was done using systems like barter trade which was very straight forward. People only exchanged what they had for what they needed, or wanted. However, in modern monetary economies, the setting is quite intricate. Huge established companies have a lot of influence in the way business is done. Treaties and agreements are made every day, and governments have made numerous laws to define trade, thus warranting the need for a more comprehensive definition of what an economic system is. An economic system can now be described as an organized manner in which a particular government chooses to allocate goods and services in the country. Modern economic systems are about more than just trade. They define the values of a society, or a country, as well as the political structure of that society. Two ways an economy can be organized are as a mixed economy or a command economy. A mixed economy is an economic system that incorporates the characteristics of several different economic systems. This usually means an economy that contains both private owned and state owned enterprises or that combines elements of capitalism and socialism, or a mix of market economy and command economy characteristics.
