WWII will remain as one of the most tragic wars of all time. With an astounding death toll of over 60
million people 3% of the world s population in 1940. In the books Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand,
and Night by Elie Wiesel the horrors of WWII are told in detail about the main characters near death
experiences. Hope is a defining factor throughout the journeys of main characters Louie and Eliezer.
The theme of hope in the face of adversity is a theme common to both stories. No matter how dire the

In Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, there is much to say about the ordeal and odyssey about Louie the
main character. Louie was an Olympic runner who was brutalized as a prisoner of war in Japan and

endured, but he did. There were plenty of trials and tribulations that could have made Louie give up,
but the worst was being stranded on a raft only to be found by the Japanese and thrown into a POW

Life is a winding road that goes through mountains and over water, but also through mud, ice, and
snow. What I mean by that is that life is something very short, filled with beautiful moments as well as
dark and disturbing ones (well, if we are being technical, life is the longest thing any of us will
experience). One moment that nobody can seem to decide which category it belongs in, is college.
College for some people can be this once in a lifetime experience that creates friendship, memories,
and everlasting knowledge. While for others it is absolute misery and stress. Regardless of all of that,
college is an incredibly tough decision that comes down to intelligence, money, and future careers. All
of which are choices of which many people fear to make in life. Bowling Green and Findlay
University both seem to be very sound and reasonable choices; however, Bowling Green looks to be
the better choice due to costs and their business programs. As for Bowling Green, which is my first
choice, was actually the second college I had visited. It had a massive campus, well, at least compared
to what I expected. It had hundreds of dorms and plenty of faculty to go around for the students.

I hypothesize that modern day Americans greatly value privacy because throughout American history
and culture, citizens have been encouraged to own personal possessions such as property, people, and

new way to teach driving. Unlike online courses, the Driver Bot gives a better and more realistic
physical representation of driving. However, modern simulators can actually placed drivers in
situations, forcing to react to virtual situations. The Driver Bot was designed to be cheaper than these

The outcome of the Opium War marked a new age of western imperialism, effectively forcing China s
doors open to the West. How did such a war come about in the first place? At the heart of the conflict
lay incompatible market ideologies: China s interests were in maintaining their traditional tributary
system and suppressing the opium trade, while the British desired free trade and diplomatic equality.
In a complex storyline filled with misunderstandings and failed negotiations, the events leading up to
the war show how in the end, by failing to adequately compensate for the destructive effects of the
opium trade, Great Britain was responsible for the start of the Opium War.
To begin with, the opium trade took a direct hit to China s prosperity, which set the stage for future
tensions. Before the illegal industry was well established in the early 19th century, China benefited
from trade with Great Britain, selling a steadily increasing amount of tea in exchange for precious
silver. However, in the late eighteenth century, the British managed to reverse this trade balance by
exporting opium instead of silver. By the mid 1820s, China s silver was rapidly flowing out of China
to keep up with the insatiable demand for opium. The outflow of silver caused the price to rise eighty
percent between 1800 1830, placing a heavy burden on farmers, whose taxes were assessed in the
precious metal.

Reflection On Writing
At this point in the semester I do not really feel any different than in the beginning. For the most part
my writing has stayed the same as when I first started. The biggest change I have experienced in my
writing is my ability to organize more effectively and to manage my time better. Although my writing
has not changed increasingly, some parts of the writing process has been improved such as
organization and time management.
One thing I have learned during the course of this semester thus far are the terms logos, pathos, and
ethos. I would not say that knowing the terms have significantly affected how I read now, as I feel like
the skills needed to use logos, pathos, and ethos I had already been using. However, now I know terms
and because of such I am able to organize the thoughts more sufficiently. My writing problems have
consistently been a struggle with organization. Having specific terms for skill I already used has made
organization much easier as I can categorize my critical thinking.
I have written reading responses and comparison essays before so I cannot say that the writing in this
class has impacted my writing significantly. Overall my writing has not changed much, however my
organization skill have improved. I have always preferred organization and lists and categorizing, so
learning what logos, pathos, and ethos are has given me a knew way to categorize information and has
