Research hypotheses are created by researchers to speculate about the outcome of an experiment. There are two main kinds of hypotheses: the null hypothesis, which expresses no difference or relationship, and the alternative hypothesis, which is accepted if the null is rejected. When testing a hypothesis, there is a chance of making Type I or Type II errors in rejecting or accepting the null hypothesis.
