MEANING
Hypothesis - Greek word
'hypothenai'
' to put under' or 'to suppose'.
HYPOTHESIS
Hypo' and thesis.
Hypo-tentative or subject to the verification
Thesis- statement about solution of a problem.
Hypothesis- the guesses to solve the research problem.
NATURE OF HYPOTHESIS
1. It's is conceptual in nature.
2. It is a verbal statement in a declarative form
3. It has the empirical referent
4. It has a forward or future reference
5. It is the pivot of a scientific research
IMPORTANCE OF HYPOTHESIS
1. To the point enquiry
2. Development of research techniques
3. Separating relevant from irrelevant observation
4. Select required fact
5. Direction of research
6. Act as a guide
7. Prevent blind research
Name of hypothesis Meaning Examples
Simple hypothesis It is a prediction of the
relationship between to
variable: the independent
variable.
Drinking sugary drinks daily
leads to obesity.
Complex hypothesis It examine the relationship
between to or more
independent variable and
two or more dependents
variable.
Over weight adults who
one value longevity and
two seek happiness are
more likely than other
adults to one loss their
excess weight and to feel a
more regular sense of joy.
Tempirital hypothesis It comes to life when a
theory is being put to the
test, usign observation and
experiment. It is no longer
just and idea or notion.
Roses watered with liquid
vitamin 'B' grow faster than
roses watered with liquid
vitamin 'C'.
CONCLUSION
One of the valuable attribute of a good hypothesis is to predict for future. It
not only clears the present problematic situation but also predict for the future
that what would be happened in the coming time. So, hypothesis is a best
guide of research activity due to power of prediction.
