My teaching philosophy has something to do with the attitudes of the students upon solving mathemat- ical problems because I believe that learning is not only measured by how smart you are, but it is also measured by your attitude. Every time, I give them seatwork or exercises I do not tolerate cheating especially on quiz. I want them to learn on their own, to work independently for preparation in college, since they were Senior students. And most im- portantly I always tell them that even though our subject is mathematics and it deals with solving problems I ask them to avoid erasures. I’ve taught them not to merely memorized the lesson but rather analyze it.
Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is tolerable subhuman who has learned to bathe and wear shoes. –Robert Heinlein
This implies that everyone is capable of doing mathematics. I’d tried my very best for them to understand the and analyze the lesson very well. I gave them a lot of seatwork and exercises at the end of the lessons, to assess if they really learn. To enhance their mathematical skills I always ask or call them in board work and ask them to explain their work, by this I am able to develop their reasoning skills or logical skills.
My Teaching Philosophy and Goals
'The power of Knowledge to organize, select, learn and judge comes from values and beliefs as much as, and probably more than, from in- formation and logic' -Thomas Davenport and Laurence Prusak (2000)

NEUST MISSION and VISION
NEUST MISSION
As provided for in RA 8612, NEUST´s mission is two-fold: to primarily provide advanced instruction, professional training in arts, science and technology, education and other related fields, undertake research and extension services, and provide progressive leadership in these areas; and to offer graduate, undergraduate and short term technical courses within its are- as of specification and according to its capabilities, considering the needs of the province, the region and the country.
NEUST VISION
The University envisions to be a recognized educational leader in Region III managed by committed and ethical public servants where a culture of excellence, high ethical standards and soli- darity thrives and prospers in each of the University´s academic and administrative departments and units; and each college, in- stitute and campus is a center of development/excellence in in- struction, research, extension, services, production, sports and cultural development, thereby transforming students, alumni and other clientele into high quality, competent and ethical leaders, professionals and/or middle level manpower in the fields of sci- ence, technology, education, management, arts and technology- based education and training.

THE DIVISION OF CITY SCHOOLS OF CABANATUAN through the leadership of the late Ca-banatuan
City Mayor Honorato C. Perez, Sr. and during the stint of the then Superintendent, Dr. Ester
C. Baylon founded the Cabanatuan City Science High School on April 19, 1985 by virtue of MECSRO
Permit 06, s. 1985, which was approved by MECSRO III Director Pura Tumada-Liban. Mayor Perez and
with his son, Atty. Angelo Perez were both influential on establishing a brand of Science High School
that would cater to the poor but deserving and intellectually promising Cabanatueños. To honor the
prime advocate on founding this school, Cabanatuan City Science High School was later renamed in-to
Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School by virtue of Sangguniang Panlungsod Ordi-nance
No. 96-002, s. 1996 dated February 2, 1996. Seated on the bustling street of Mabini, and on the
6,298 square meter-lot donated by Rev. Fr. Gregorio Crisostomo, a generous Filipino-Spanish friar
and philanthropist during the American occupation, Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High
School began to emerge as a vibrant academic institution, being the first of its kind in Cabanatuan City.
To perpetuate its existence as a leading academic institution in the Province and in Region III, the
school has effectively introduced an astringent screening process of selecting its students. The curricu-lum
of the school is primarily designed to prepare its students for higher studies in the various fields of
Science. From its humble beginning in 1985 with just enough classrooms to accommodate the first 210
Freshman students, Cabanatuan City Science High School steadily inched its way toward Division, Pro-vincial,
Regional, and even National recognition through the able stewardship of efficient administrators.
Now, Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School through the efforts of dedicated teachers
who are imbued with the principles and ideas of modern teaching will continue to improve itself in order
to serve the YOUTH: the country's future leaders and professionals. They are, after all, the Hope of our
Motherland.
MISSION AND VISION
of Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School
Mission
Produce graduates who are imbued with multi- ple intelligences and who shall be productive and useful citizens of the country.
Vision
By 2016, Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School shall be the Center of Excellence in the secondary science education in the province of Nueva Ecija

Teaching Responsibilities
The main role of teacher is to provide education to a students. In every country there is a certain eligibility to become a good teacher. Provide guidance and instruct the students, looking after the progress of the students, and make it sure that low achieving students understand the lesson before proceeding to the next lesson and high achieving stu- dents keep their interest with regards to the topic.
Course Taught:: I have taught Calculus that deals with finding of derivatives (Differential) and integral of a functions (Antiderivatives) and their applications. Mathematics IV deals with pre-calculus and calculus topics starting with the topics about functions and relations, its properties and behavior in graphs followed by intuitive approach to limits of functions, derivative and its application to derivatives.
Teaching this course is very much challenging , you will impart learning to your students and calculus is very hard to handle, since I am going to teach this in high school level. Aside from this, application of calculus in many different fields such as physics, chemistry eco- nomics, and business as a gateway to much higher mathematics.
Grading: Scores are deceiving, right? Students are graded base on the following criteria: Quizzes 15%, Unit Test 15%, Periodical Test 15%, Project 25%, Participation 30% for a total of 100%. Class participation is given more emphasis than the others, it is very important for the student to participate in class discussion, during recitation, during class discussion and during board work. This will also encourage them to answer in the posted questions, to solve problems actively and accurately.
Feedback: Communication is important between you and your students. So every time that there will be unannounced quiz, I posted it on facebook and tagged it to my students. And if there are questions with regards to their project they’ve come to message/chat me. For in- stances, there are students who have missed quizzes they approach me to get quiz. I an- nounce to the class if there are quizzes that they miss and tell them to communicate with me after the class or during my vacant time.
Availability: I always hold five hours per week, and I have vacant of 3 hours, so if there are students that will take special quiz I make myself available. Most of the times, there are stu- dents who are absent for a week or couple of weeks they’ve see me and I explain the topics first before they took quiz.
The learners are the primary concern of learning. They are the most important factor in the learning envi- ronment. Teaching will not take place without them. Learners are differ from one another, they learn different- ly and preferences are not alike. They are differ from cultural background, socio-economic profile, orientation, and varied experiences. To develop their multiple intelli- gences teacher should come up with various learning style will help them cope with the lesson. There is no single best method of teaching that drives the diverse student back- ground and characteristics. Teachers must use the appro- priate methods and strategies of teaching methods and strategies of teaching to yield results. Learning activities and instructional materials or resources are appropriate with the psychomotor skills.
Class sessions and discussion: Lecture is only part of learning but since all of my students have their books my resource teacher do not ask them to have a lecture notebook, again for preparation in college. I always begin my lesson with a brief recap of the previous lesson and ask them if they have questions with regards to the previous topic, for this, it will be starting point to set first their mind before discussing new lesson. Sometimes, I am post- ing a question to be answered with a correlation in the topic, and answering the question I proceed to the lesson proper. After I gave them several ex- amples, I always encourage them to answer in board work which is student centered. I always ask them to explain their work every time they’ll answer on the board. I ask 4-6 students, after that I ask them if there are queries, if none, I generalized the topic and proceed to the evaluation. Otherwise, if there are questions I answer it and explain them why? And how?. After the evaluation, the students will answer the problem right away and they will know their scores.
Cooperative Learning: Before starting a new lesson I asked them to group themselves and answer the poste questions (using flashcards). More of it, I posted questions hard to answer and to solve it, I encour- age them to have brainstorming. In addition, all groups will be having a representative and present their works.
Homework: Honestly, there are few homework in my class because according to my resource teacher “No homework, for Fridays be- cause it’s family day”, I take the word of Sir De Lara. But when it comes to their project I allow them to use computers to serve as they’re basis in their project. Like, I allow each section to create a work book in calculus or compilation of problems in calculus. I give each students their topic and compile it as a section. I ask them to look for various examples in the internet and do not merely copy and paste the problem. To avoid this, I ask them to work on their project handwritten provided that there will be no erasures or else the grades will be diminished. For this I will be able to develop their media skills. I also provide some assignments which leads to knowing the next lesson and some are difficult to answer in which they say that far from what I’ve discussed.
Exams: In creating periodical exams, I follow the table of specifications which is commonly first to consider when specifying what should be included in the exam, based on the number of days of teaching the lessons. I create exams 70% easy, 20% average, and 10% difficult, which is noted by my resource teacher. Of course, hen creating an exam you will include topics that are fully covered. The type of ex- am is purely multiple choices and 5o items in total. I create exams which is fairly difficult and yet answerable. On the other hand, 70% of them passed the exam.
Use of Technology
I allow my students to use calcula-tor
whenever to have a quiz or seatwork
by this we can use our time wisely. Like
in solving marginal revenue, profit and
cost, for instance, using of calculator is
not that much needed like for example in
solving for the derivative of the given
function. In the third grading period, I
ask them to work on their project relying
on internet to find basis or example in
the compilation of the problems in cal-culus.
Course Syllabi and Information
The course syllabi includes the course description,
grading system on how students will be graded based on
the criteria, the learning content, what topics should be
covered for the whole grading period. It also includes
the number of days or weeks that specific lesson should
be taught. The syllabus of instruction in mathematics
4-Calculus includes what will be expected from the
students after a specific lesson. On the last part of the
syllabi references are being included.
EVALUATION OF TEACHING
After staying for almost 50 days in Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School, I have been improved my teaching skills with the help of my resource teacher. From the very start of my practice teaching career my resource teacher was there to guide and criticized my teaching strategies and methods. He taught me to maximized the student participation, every time I ask my students to answer on the board better if they explain their work to develop their logical skills, if someone is answering on the board ask others to solve also and check if they’ve got the same answer, roam around the room, highlight important details and relate to real life experiences and most importantly check the attendance. For all the criticism of my resource teacher I have learned a learn from him and I used it for the rest of my practice teaching. I can now finally say that I’ve improved because my students really learned a lot in calculus.
In the future, I will be working on sustaining the interest of my students and find more teaching methods and strategies that will best suited for the topic or course. I will also practice to control my temper because honestly most of the time I shift moods quickly. I will also continue to enhance my teaching skills by taking Masters’ Degree. I will continue to impart learning and serve as a living example in this institution.
Teaching Improvement and Future Plans
The Final
Demonstration
Practice Teachers from NEUST College of Education were asked to joined games together with the faculty and staff, and students in the Christmas Party of Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School held last December 18 2013.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Working with Cooperating Teacher
My cooperating teacher is Sir Ismael Arenas De Lara, he is Mathematics Major and graduated at NEUST College of Education. He teaches Mathematics IV– Calculus at Honorato C. Perez Sr. Memorial Science High School. Before I officially start my practice teaching I observed his class sessions for three days. I also enjoyed observing his class because students are all listening and actively participating in the class. I want to thank him for being kind in checking all my lesson plans observing me and guiding me through the days I was there in my cooperating school. I’ve learned a lot from him, he teaches me to maximized the student participation, always ask my stu- dents to explain their work when I ask them to answer on the board, roam around the room and check if the students are working/solving, avoid frequently looking at my copy when I am discussing, add more power in my voice, and always check the at- tendance before starting the lesson proper. As a matter of fact I do not experience hard time when I was there because he is always guiding me. After the class sessions, I always take time to report what is happening. When he asked me to make Table of Specifications (TOS) and make Periodical Examinations, he check my work and correct my mistakes patiently.
He oriented me about the rules and regulations inside his class, “No assignment for Fridays, no quiz on Mondays”. He is a teacher who thinks weekends as family day of his students. He ask and consider my ideas in requiring students about their pro- ject. And when there are lessons or topic goes unclear he discuss and explains every- thing. During submission of grades, he notify me to complete the raw scores of the students and he will be the one who will compute their final grade in a certain grad- ing. My cooperating teacher is very supportive in enhancing my teaching methods and strategies.

  • 2. –Robert Heinlein This implies that everyone is capable of doing mathematics. My Teaching Philosophy and Goals 'The power of Knowledge to organize, select, learn and judge comes from values and beliefs as much as, and probably more than, from in- formation and logic' -Thomas Davenport and Laurence Prusak (2000)

  • 7. Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School Address: Mabini Street Extension, Cabanatuan 3100 Source: http://hcpsmshs01.weebly.com/hcpsmshs-history.html THE DIVISION OF CITY SCHOOLS OF CABANATUAN through the leadership of the late Ca-banatuan City Mayor Honorato C. Perez, Sr. and during the stint of the then Superintendent, Dr. Ester C. Baylon founded the Cabanatuan City Science High School on April 19, 1985 by virtue of MECSRO Permit 06, s. 1985, which was approved by MECSRO III Director Pura Tumada-Liban. Mayor Perez and with his son, Atty. Angelo Perez were both influential on establishing a brand of Science High School that would cater to the poor but deserving and intellectually promising Cabanatueños. To honor the prime advocate on founding this school, Cabanatuan City Science High School was later renamed in-to Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School by virtue of Sangguniang Panlungsod Ordi-nance No. 96-002, s. 1996 dated February 2, 1996. Seated on the bustling street of Mabini, and on the 6,298 square meter-lot donated by Rev. Fr. Gregorio Crisostomo, a generous Filipino-Spanish friar and philanthropist during the American occupation, Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School began to emerge as a vibrant academic institution, being the first of its kind in Cabanatuan City. To perpetuate its existence as a leading academic institution in the Province and in Region III, the school has effectively introduced an astringent screening process of selecting its students. The curricu-lum of the school is primarily designed to prepare its students for higher studies in the various fields of Science. From its humble beginning in 1985 with just enough classrooms to accommodate the first 210 Freshman students, Cabanatuan City Science High School steadily inched its way toward Division, Pro-vincial, Regional, and even National recognition through the able stewardship of efficient administrators. Now, Honorato C. Perez, Sr. Memorial Science High School through the efforts of dedicated teachers who are imbued with the principles and ideas of modern teaching will continue to improve itself in order to serve the YOUTH: the country's future leaders and professionals. They are, after all, the Hope of our Motherland.

I believe in blackboards, chalk dust, textbooks, and computers for each have part in imparting knowledge. I believe the love I give to my students will someday be reflected in their lives. I believe the gift of teaching is not simply measured by marks, enrollment, or the end of the school year. It is in the witness I give and the fullness of the life lived by those I will teach. I believe I have the power to lead those in need of learning and threshold of their own minds. I believe in my giftedness to use of the tools available no matter how new or old. For the light of knowledge in the eyes of another is my goal. I believe teaching is more than test, diplomas, paper works, and fund raising. It is the values I breathe daily into another… slowly. It is in the faith I share in Jesus… ever changing and growing… never ending. I believe my success today goes unnoticed… until those I teach and touch stand alone and say “IN MY LIFE I HAVE LEARNED…” I believe if I have taught and touched one person… in God’s name… I have used my gift to justify… and humbly say… I believe in teaching… I AM A TEACHER!! • 13. Teaching Responsibilities The main role of teacher is to provide education to a students.
  • 16. Use of Technology I allow my students to use calcula-tor whenever to have a quiz or seatwork by this we can use our time wisely. Like in solving marginal revenue, profit and cost, for instance, using of calculator is not that much needed like for example in solving for the derivative of the given function. In the third grading period, I ask them to work on their project relying on internet to find basis or example in the compilation of the problems in cal-culus. Course Syllabi and Information The course syllabi includes the course description, grading system on how students will be graded based on the criteria, the learning content, what topics should be covered for the whole grading period. It also includes the number of days or weeks that specific lesson should be taught. The syllabus of instruction in mathematics 4-Calculus includes what will be expected from the students after a specific lesson. On the last part of the syllabi references are being included.

  • 34. Working with Cooperating Teacher My cooperating teacher is Sir Ismael Arenas De Lara, he is Mathematics Major and graduated at NEUST College of Education.
