Sir Ebenezer Howard was a pioneer of town planning who developed the concept of the garden city. He was influenced by the overcrowding and poor conditions he witnessed in cities like London and Chicago. Howard proposed that towns and countryside each had benefits and drawbacks, but that a new type of settlement combining their advantages could be created. This was the garden city - a self-contained community surrounded by greenbelt land, with proportionate areas for housing, industry and agriculture. The first examples of garden cities were Letchworth and Welwyn, which aimed to provide the benefits of both urban and rural living.

Sir ebenezer howard
Sir Ebenezer Howard was a pioneer of town planning who developed the concept of the garden city. He was influenced by the overcrowding and poor conditions he witnessed in cities like London and Chicago. Howard proposed that towns and countryside each had benefits and drawbacks, but that a new type of settlement combining their advantages could be created. This was the garden city - a self-contained community surrounded by greenbelt land, with proportionate areas for housing, industry and agriculture. The first examples of garden cities were Letchworth and Welwyn, which aimed to provide the benefits of both urban and rural living.

My Webquest
The Webquest I have created incorporates technology and common software into a nature journal project. In this Webquest, students are asked to create a journal template and cover page using either Microsoft Word or Publisher. This template is then printed and ten two sided copies are made. It is on this template that the student will write detailed, reflective, nature journal entries that relate to topics in science. Five of these entries will be done in the "real world" and five of them will be inresponse to national geographic videos or virtual birder "birding breaks". this will allow stduents the opportunity to refelct on species and habitats in their own community and those in different places in the World. Once the entries are complete, the student will use Excel to create a table of contents that will accompany their journal. Finally, the student will create one slide in PowerPoint to accompany each of their journal entries. This slide can include digital photos they themselves took, or images found on the internet.

- 2. This is the place where we sleep, eat, play and often go to school, work… this is where we LIVE.
- 3. Most food is grown on farms. Farmers build irrigation systems to take water to the plants and animals:
- 4. Food is processed or preserved to be transported and stored. It can be put in cans, bottles or other containers.
- 5. We need water to drink, to clean and to prepare food. Water can come from a natural source or from a reservoir.
- 6. Humans build houses or buildings to protect themselves from bad weather.
- 7. Food and raw materials are transported from farms to the shops in towns and cities. Trucks and other forms of transport carry the food.
- 8. Human beings often cause pollution to the environment (air pollution, water pollution and land pollution).
- 9. We must take care of the environment. Trees clean the air. Reforestation is important.
- 10. This is a city or town, with a lot of buildings, people and traffic.
- 11. A rural landscape is the countryside, with small villages, farms, forests…
- 12. An abandoned village is a village where people lived in the past, but nobody lives now.
