Who Is Lenin A Political Genius
Introduction Vladimir Lenin, who became the leader of the Bolshevik in the time of the Russian
Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1903, claimed to be a traditional Marxist. People such as
historians debated Lenin was not an orthodox Marxist but a type of revisionist. However, he did not
make any major alterations to Marx s ideas but instead decided to add his own to fit to benefit him and
his country with modern times and he was the key defender of Marx when his theories were attacked
by revisionists such as Bernstein, Lenin defended Marx s work due to his respect of his theories. The
theories revolving around Lenin changed over time due to the increase in resources available. The
original accounts attack Lenin, accusing him of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historians such as Neil Harding, however, said do Lenin the justice of treating him as a serious
theoretician and political leader (Hearse) . This led to the development of impartial and sympathetic
views to give Lenin the benefit of the doubt. Traditional ideas Very few politicians can ever argue
against the statement that Lenin was a political genius. Lenin was a master at manipulation and
opportunity which came when he discovered Marx s work. The division in arguments occurs,
however, when one attempts to define genius due to his careless actions in which he destroyed the
working class . The traditional and generally accepted view of Lenin is that he had a great ability to
grasp the potentialities of a situation and twist them to his own benefit to be able to maximize his
power, which is why the word genius might be used lightly . Lenin was merciless when it came to
being an instinctive politician and practitioner of revolution he wanted to maintain his political power
and gain more, but was inconsistent, unorthodox and indecisive when it came to political thought and
theories which was why historians do not now how to picture Lenin. He is seen , not a theorist of
revolution, ( Wilson, 390) But sees and he adapts with no regard for the theoretical positions of others
or for his own theoretical position in the past;

George Orwell Use Of Control In The Book 1984
In George Orwell novel nineteen eighty four Winston is being alienated by the Party because it try to
make Winston think, act, do everything a certain way. The Party controls Winston by the telescreen,
thought police, and the children spies. The social regime/ the Party shapes or influences the characters
because of the way they use brainwashing and physical control for punishment.
The Thought Police, who snoop in on conversations, always watching your every move, controlling
the minds and thoughts of the people. (Orwell 6) The thought police is controlling of Winston and this
influences him to only act how they want him to. Winston explains how the thought police does not
send you to be punished, it is punishment Thoughtcrime does not entail death: thoughtcrime IS death.
(Orwell 9) . When Winston found out that the Parson kids were spying on him through the peephole
he said You re a traitor!/ You re a thought criminal! (Orwell). Winston knew that if the party saw him
writing in his journal then they would arrest him for thought crime. Winston kept his back turned to
the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing. (Orwell 3). ...

Mammalian Insulation Lab Report
Morphological and thermal properties of mammalian insulation: the evolution of fur for aquatic living
by Heather E.M. Liwanag, Annalisa Berta, Daniel P. Osta, Masako Abney, and Terri M. Williams
conducted their experiment on species related to the family Carnivora. The three species of marine
environments include; polar bears, pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, and walruses), and sea otters. One
major key that is crucial to surviving and transitioning to a water environment is the type of insulation
each organism possessed. Insulation is needed to retain body heat, as well as to maintain a body
temperature that is stable after longs submergence. Thus indicating that this particular experiment was

What Do The Oil Numbers
What do the oil numbers 10W 30 mean? Your engines rotating parts are protected from heat and
friction by a thin layer of oil. We have seen the numbers on the oil bottles and read what the
manufacturers recommend for the oil but, how were those numbers derived? The increase in
technology has changed the way it was measured, but the numbers have stayed consistent so as not to
make consumers learn a new system, or have the oil manufacturers feel obligated to list both the old
numbers and the new numbers on the labels. Multi grade oils are the best of both worlds and this
accomplished by using additives to increase viscosity with the increase temperature. There are many
types of lubricants, just make sure that you are using engine oil, and the engine oil for your type of
engine, two or four stroke engines, as other lubricants have similar gradings. A little history of oil: In
1866, Medical Doctor John Ellis was trying to determine if there were any medicinal properties of
crude oil. He did not find any medical properties, but realized that there were potentials in lubrication
for steam engines. At that time, lubrication was mainly animal or vegetable fat, and that has started to
come back around full circle, but has potential since new technology for refining those fats into a
more usable lubrication. He then founded the Predecessor to Valvoline oil, Continuous Oil Refining
Company and put his medical practice on hold indefinitely. He patented several refining methods

Reproductive Rights Argument Essay
The argument about when life begins is nearly invalid in comparison to the argument that there is a
risen rate of unplanned pregnancies. Due to the raising rate of pregnancy, present day America has
turned abortions into a form of contraception. When two individuals decide to have intercourse, they
are exercising their reproductive rights. If one has exercised a specific right, one must also accept the
responsibility of what comes after. For example, think about speeding on the highway. One has the
right to drive a car, as long as the set rules are followed. Unlike most laws, rights, or rules in America
where a fine may be placed, the consequence of one s reproductive rights is not illegal and is another
human being. Thus, one must accept responsibility for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rape, of course, is an exception since a woman is not exercising her reproductive rights, they are
being exercised for her. If a woman cannot physically control what has happened to her, she should
have the ability to handle the outcome in whatever way she feels fit. Many also argue that there are
other ways to prevent pregnancy. For example, there are multiple birth control options. Although birth
control may not be 100%, this is much safer than not using it. In addition, birth control, like condoms,
prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. In that case, everyone wins. There is no reason for
two individuals who do not want a child to not use some from contraception. There is also a grey area
between whether or not birth control is a form of abortion or if abortion is a form of birth control.
Neither of these statements are true. Birth control is taken to prevent pregnancy from happening at all.
An abortion takes place after pregnancy has already occurred and kills the living, growing human
being. One cannot argue against the idea that killing a human for your own convenience is immoral.
These ideas are simple, if one does not want a child, one should not act in a way that will

Age-Related Changes In The Male Reproductive System
Several age related changes occur in the male reproductive system. In some but not all men, the size
and weight of the testes decrease, with an associated decrease in the number of interstitial cells and a
thinning of the wall of the seminiferous tubules. These changes may be secondary to a decrease in
blood flow to the testes or to a gradual decrease in sex hormone production. In addition, the rate of
sperm cell production decreases, and the number of abnormal sperm cells produced increases.
However, sperm cell production does not stop, and it remains adequate for fertility for most men. Age
related changes become obvious in the prostate gland by age 40. By age 60, there is a clear decrease in
blood flow to the prostate gland, an increased

Motivations For Beowulf
The epic of Beowulf, the most precious relic of Old English, and, indeed, of all early Germanic
literature... ( While reading Beowulf, many have a series of questions throughout the epic poem. On of
the many questions is about what motivates the epic hero of the tale to danger his life. Beowulf lives
in Geatland and shows up in the land of the Danes and asks to fight a monster to help them. He ends
up fighting the monster s mother as well as a deadly dragon. What motivates Beowulf to go after these
three monsters? Beowulf goes after the monsters because of Anglo Saxon codes, for vengeance, and
fame. To begin, when Beowulf gets to the land of the Danes he is only there because of his duty. In
Anglo Saxon culture, if you were able to do something to help someone else it was your ... Show more

Beowulf knows he will be injured trying to kill the beast but wants to do it anyways. Beowulf brings a
whole group of warriors to come watch him kill the dragon and help him if he becomes too injured to
continue. Beowulf says this before the fight, ...I will fight again, seek fame still... (626). He knows
how difficult the battle will be, he knows how old he is, yet he knows that he would protect his people
and gain fame from killing the monstrous beast. As Peter Leithart says about the actions of Beowulf,
The hero acts out of devotion to his lord or to his people, but dragon acts out of malice. (Leithart). He
says here that the reason that Beowulf goes to kill the dragon is out of devotion to his people and to
become more famous. Beowulf makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his people. To conclude, Beowulf
s motivations are fame, obligation, and vengeance. Without the ideals of the Anglo Saxon times,
Beowulf would have almost no reason to fight Grendel. However, because of the codes that they had
in their culture, Beowulf was created to show other people how to act and what to do about duty and

Russell Williams
Psycology
With regards to psychology there are many different theories and perspectives of the human mind
however, I will be focusing on Sigmund Freud s theory of human behavior. Freud believed that human
behaviour is driven by desires and the suppression of the same desires . Concerning the case of Col.
Russell Williams, he was a paraphilic; he stole lingerie and then took photographs of the women he
sexually assaulted. According to Freud s theory of human behavior, Williams did not possess the
ability to control his desires. He started off as a voyeur , but somehow transformed into a perverted
sex offender with a dark fixation for violence. Sigmund Freud compared the mind to an iceberg.
Everything we are aware of is just the tip, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marie France Comeau. The act he committed was more than just murder; it expressed his inner
desired for violent sexual control over women. Underneath Russell Williams exterior of success and
loyalty lay a dark appetite for power, control and superiority over women that eventually obliterated
the lives of Marie France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. said Ian MacLeod from the Ottawa Citizen.
From the perspective of a feminist, Williams actions urge for greater awareness and advocacy to stop
the sexualized violence as well as the degradation of women across Canada and the world. It is too
easy to dismiss Williams acts as those of a deranged man and to perceive no need further response. If
anything, the Williams case must call us all to greater awareness and advocacy to end all sexualized
violence and degradation of women. said Alice Schuda.
There are various factors that may have occurred throughout Williams s life that could thoroughly
account for his sexually deviant behaviour. The feeling of male dominance such as his father or a
military superior could have led Russell to express his infuriation and dominance on the opposite sex.
Consequently, his inadmissible behaviour initiates friction between genders; this represents a feminist
theory of female maltreatment. During childhood, Russell Williams may have come across neglect
from a female care giver, which may have had an influence on his bizarre and sexually violent

Storage Strategies For The Enterprise Storage Environment...
Along with the computer appears, storage strategy becomes one of the most important features for
data storing and data sharing based on computer infrastructure. Enterprises prefer faster performance,
lower costs for the storage solutions, especially with a high security protection. Cost, performance,
data backup, data recovery, data sharing, security issues are all popular topics for the enterprise
storage strategies when they meet their storage issues. How can enterprise make a reasonable decision
to meet their real requirements and business need based on their budget? How can enterprise know
which is the best solution for their business strategies? How can enterprise move their data from old

The Impact of Enterprise Storage Strategies
Introduction
When a business started, the related data has been generated. Along with the development of the
business, the data becomes larger and accumulates day by day. The accumulated data can be
transferred to meaningful information for the managers decision makings. Storing and protecting the
data is essential to the development of the enterprise business. Today, almost all enterprises use
computer storage to store their data instead of the hard copy papers. In the past, hard copy papers
stored the data for the enterprise, but it existed too many potential risks, such as data loss, data stolen,
data destroy, or cannot sharing with others. In 1990s, more companies started to use computer hard
drive to store their business data; this change impacted the later development of the storage strategies.
Along with the technology development and the data becomes bigger and bigger, big data problems
appear. How can enterprise store such large data and manage such large data effectively? Currently
there are several classic storage strategies to help enterprise solve their data storage problems, such as
spinning media, flash, and cloud. The enterprise also can select onsite or offsite option as their
considerations based on their business environment. Security issues are popular discussion topics as
well in this paper.

Romanov Dynasty In Russia
Animal Farm is a novel that is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. For 300 years the Romanov
dynasty ruled Russia, it was supported by conservatism peasants, the secret police, the church and the
army. A dynasty with that much support and power shouldn t be able to fall so easily. So what exactly
caused the powerful regime to fall? It was mainly what supported the Romanov dynasty; farming
peasants, the church, and the army. In the books of history countries and communities that cannot
adapt, and change into new modern thinking, tend to fail. This is what happened to Russia. New ideas

Examples Of Escapism In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth and how Escapism can Ruin you. In Pan s Labyrinth, the character of Ophelia
represents how escapism s disconnect from reality might cause damage to relationships and severe
injury or death. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and the revelation
of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses escapism as a means of
creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that she endures under her
stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a strain in her relationships
with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her mother reprimands her saying, You

remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear,
and as a means of feeling like she has some control over whether her mother lives or dies. However,

Antony In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar
Antony was a very diverse character in the play Julius Caesar. He starts out as a small character who is
only mentioned once or twice an act. Later he is portrayed as a hero for the people. Towards the end
he is depicted as a liar and a cheat whose only goal is to attain power. As you look over Antony
throughout the play, you slowly start to see the real him which only comes out when he is given the
chance to rise up on the political chain. In the beginning of the play, you hear very little of Antony. He
is first mentioned during a scene where Caesar is in public about to watch men race. Antony is asked
to touch Caesar s wife, Calpurnia, as he is running so that she may become pregnant. He agrees and is
believed to have done so. After that, not much is heard of Antony up until the point where Caesar is
killed. There it is debated whether or not Antony should be killed. It is decided that he will be spared
because it is overkill to cut off arms and legs after the head has already been removed. After this,
Antony flees until the next scene where the next element of his character is revealed. After the death ...

Georgia in the Civil Rights Movement
Georgia in the Civil Rights Movement
Contemporary History Research Paper
The civil rights movement was a time of great upheaval and change for the entire United States, but it
was especially so in the South. The civil rights movement in the American South was one of the most
triumphant and noteworthy social movements in the modern world. The civil rights movement was an
enduring effort by Black Americans to obtain basic human and civil rights in the United States. Black
Georgians formed part of this Southern movement for civil rights and the wider national struggle for
racial equality. From Atlanta to Albany to the most rural counties in Georgia, black activists, and their

The movement gained a great deal of support among black people in Georgia because Henry McNeal
Turner, an African Methodist Episcopal bishop and political leader, became an avid supporter (Tuck,
2003). Also, during this time, black Georgians began establishing churches and schools within their
own separate communities as a safeguard from the discrimination and racism they faced on a regular
basis.
World War II and its aftermath effected great changes in Georgia s civil rights struggle. Large numbers
of blacks moved to the west and the north to share in the wartime prosperity, giving the minority
problem a national rather than a regional character. In Georgia, and elsewhere, urbanization was also
rapidly accelerated and large numbers of blacks who fought in the armed services against tyranny and
injustice abroad began to more keenly feel the injustice at home. The fight for democracy in Europe
offered the perfect opportunity for black leaders to press for racial change in the South.
In 1944, Primus King, a black man registered to vote in Georgia, attempted to cast a ballot in the
Democratic primary. He was turned away by a police officer who escorted him off the premises of the
Muscogee County Courthouse. This was a time in Georgia where the Democratic Party controlled all
of the politics in Georgia and in the South. Primus King s challenge to the white primary was planned
by a group of black civil rights

Essay on Adn vs Bsn Competencies
Differences in Competencies: Who Makes a Better Nurse? Michelle Phoebe Baltazar

Abstract
In this essay the differences between an Associate prepared nurse versus Bachelor prepared nurse is
discussed in correlation to critical thinking, professionalism, and leadership.
Differences in Competencies: Who Makes a Better Nurse? Who makes a better nurse? A nurse with an
Associate s Degree or a Bachelor s Degree? The answer would probably depend on who one asks.
However, according to American Association of College of Nursing (2012), education enhances both

Autonomous nursing practice as defined as full command of expert knowledge and allowing for
accountability and authority in decision making (Creasia Friberg, 2011, pg. 47). A doctor will more
likely see a nurse as a professional once they show competence and autonomy, which in turn, will
provide a positive nurse physician relationship due to the trust built between professionals. A
physician must be able to trust a nurse s judgment and assessment skills to be able to provide a
collaborative care for the patient. The wheel of professionalism is designed to compare nurses
professional behavior with other professions, which places university based education as central to
professionalism, which then leads to a strong code of ethics, professional recognition and continuing
education to maintain nursing competence (Yam, 2004). As a nurse achieves a status of
professionalism, a nurse will view oneself as an equal partner in the health care team, which in turn
will boost confidence and support for a more proactive and confident nurse. Leadership In nursing,
leadership does not only consist of being in a higher position but in all aspects of nursing, whether one
is a staff nurse or a unit manager. A nurse must be able to lead patients, family, or a community, to a
higher level of understanding in regards to the over all aspects of people s health. However, primary
degrees in general do not prepare nurses for

Examples Of Masculinity In Margaret Hale
Throughout the North and South, Margaret Hale shows a tremendous ability to affirm and alter the
masculinity of the men around her. This power is both due to the nature of masculinity itself, as well
as Margaret s unwavering convictions about what she perceives to be masculine. For any man, their
masculinity will be influenced by the women around them. This is because masculinity exists in a
duality with femininity; they define themselves against one another, what is dominant is masculine
and what is submissive is feminine, stoicism and emotional, blue and pink. Without one to cast its
shadow on, the other loses its structure. Thus, masculinity measures itself against the mensuration that
femininity lays out for it. This reliance on one another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

accordingly and leaves to perform his duty as the man of the household so quickly that he cuts
Margaret off mid sentence. This is drastically different to Mr. Hale s reactions, which would instead
leave Margaret up to her own devices to fulfill his role, and shows how Margaret s influence on the
men around her does not just lead to emasculation, but a push toward a fuller embodiment of their
masculinity. Here especially, all it took were a few sharp sentences and Mr. Thornton felt compelled
from hiding inside his home to boldly addressing an army of rioting, angry men. Thus, Margaret has a

Stereotypes In The Real World
Stereotypes are all around us. Wherever one goes there will be stereotypes for people, groups, or even

based on appearance. This prejudgment of a person can hurt them various ways in the real world such
as applying for a job. A man that wants to be a nurse can hurt his manliness because nurses are thought
to be a job for women only. The gender stereotypes in this world are not making anything better, just

The Victorian Era allowed England to become one of the most balanced and established countries
through the reign of Queen Victoria. The civil service system created labor laws, universal education

reforms and additional welfare for the England s citizens, the interpretation of religion in the country
began to alter as well. The actions of parliament and the Victorian Society had enormous effects on the
people and the way they viewed English society. Thomas Hardy s novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles,
depicts the consequences of uncontrollable forces on the lives of the Christians through the form of
tragedies during England s Victorian Era. The society of England in the 1800 s changed drastically
through the rule of Queen Victoria and even changed the country s views of religion and class
divisions. Thomas Hardy, born on June 2, 1840, in Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, England, was the
eldest son of Thomas Hardy and Jemima Hardy. His mother influenced his love of reading and
writing, ultimately impacting his future career. Hardy grew up in a mostly rural lifestyle and his only
primary education lasted until he was sixteen years of age, before departing to become an apprentice
of John Hicks and follow in the footsteps of his father. Hardy s first choice was to become an Anglican
minister, but later changed his mind as he lacked interest in religion and did not possess the money

Compare And Contrast Mental Illnesses
Mental and physical illnesses are both very serious, but also very different. Mental illnesses are often
overlooked, as well as overshadowed by physical illnesses. Mental and physical illnesses, while vastly
different, do have similarities. Both can require intense treatment, and both can get overlooked. The
difference is that mental illnesses are more difficult to diagnose. Say if you break your arm, you know
the bone is broken or fractured. Nobody could argue that. Where if you are always sad and
melancholy, it s just assumed you are having a bad day, or blamed on mood swings. Physical illnesses
are often caused by something specific, whether if it runs in your family, you caught it from somebody
else, or any other reason, there is almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ableism is described as discrimination in favor of able bodied people. It applies to physical as well as
mental illnesses. It is a problem that most people are not aware of, and also accidentally a part of it.

are viewed as innocent terms, not as ableist slurs. The best comparison that could be made is that it s
the same situation as using racial slurs. Racial slurs are more well known and fought against compared
to ableist slurs. Ableism is a very real problem, often pushed aside as not a real problem . Most
problems dealing with mental illnesses are overlooked, including ableism. When someone is corrected
on using an ableism, most claim it is because of how they were raised or because they don t find it

national government with deliberately built balanced governance and that increasing the procedure
debilitates the very condition of American majority rules system. A few Republicans call the thought
of demolishing the delay a Democratic power grab.
The plot of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington spins, obviously, around the delay. In that time period, the
Senate couldn t move onto different business if the delay was not determined that is to say, the
filibusters needed to really be talking keeping in mind the end goal to keep up the delay. This changed
when Robert Byrd was Senate Majority Leader. Byrd (and his gathering) founded a two track
framework, changing the standards so that the Senate could desert the delayed movement and proceed
onward to different business. This change was made in light of the fact that delays were seen as
valuable, however excessively obstructionist, and Byrd felt the Senate required the adaptability to
have the capacity to proceed onward to different things. In an unintended outcome, minorities of late
have found that Byrd basically made it allowed to delay. In the event that

Second daily activity, start up a low impact exercise routine to obtain pre pregnancy weight. This will
help both mentally and physically once you are closer to your pre pregnancy weight. The lack of
physical activity contributes to excess weight gain during pregnancy and weight retention during
postpartum. Many gyms have child care, and as your child ages this will help him or her fine tune
attachment social skills early.
Third daily activity, have some human interaction and talk about your feelings. Set time aside each
day to talk with your partner, so that you both can reconnect. Find a support group, there are many
women experiencing the same thing right now. Listening to someone else s version of postpartum
depression and sharing your own can work wonders. Seek out a meeting in your area and give it a try.

The Real Estate Bubble Crisis
From the late 1990 s to mid 2000 s the United States experienced an unprecedented run up of real
estate prices across the country that reached a peaked in 2006, in some areas up to an eighty percent
increase. After the increase in prices, there was a sudden collapse of real estate prices in 2008, brought
on by a surge in foreclosures, and an increasing inventory of housing.1 Foreclosure increases came
from an unprecedented rise in mortgages called, subprime mortgages. These risky subprime
mortgages, and the cottage industry within the financial sector that profited from them, created an
overly leveraged and over exposed finance industry that created a massive recession when the bubble
popped. In this essay, we will look into the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foreign investors starving for fixed income securities that also had returns better than government
securities, decided to invest in mortgage back securities provided by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In
order to take advantage of the savings glut Wall Street firms began to package many of these sub
prime mortgages together and create what was known as a mortgage backed security.1 A mortgage
backed security, was an asset backed security that was secured by a collection of upwards a several
hundred mortgages. The issue was the mortgage back securities provided by Fannie, Freddie, and
investment banks were given good ratings by rating agencies such as Standard and Poor s and Moody
s, even though these assets were toxic. They gave the mortgage back securities good ratings, because
their risk assessment models solely used previous housing data, and did not include any possibility of
a fall in housing prices.3 As a result, overseas investors believed they were getting secure assets with
above average returns, but instead they were getting very toxic assets instead. So the interest in these
mortgage back securities continued the flood of savings, continuing the suppression of interest rates
and maintained the status quo.2 Banks lent out these sub prime mortgages at a prolific rate because
even if the borrower foreclosed, banks were still able to make a profit, as they resold a higher priced
house. Another form of easy credit came from the historically low short term rates

The Perfect Body Article Analysis
The informative mentor text this week was on The Perfect Body. A short article on the media
projecting what their ideas of the perfect body are. Tall and skinny women and bulked up men. You
see these kind of people in magazines, on television and even on video games. I believe the purpose of
the article was to help people realize that many people have things they don t like about their own
bodies and in fact, two out of every five girls and one out of every five boys are uncomfortable with
their bodies. This is stated at the end of the article. I believe the author succeeds in identifying the
objective since the entire article is on the dangers of low self esteem and feeling like you need to be
thin to be pretty. The author mentions anorexia and bulimia as some of the diseases from trying to
hard to achieve such a skinny body type. I noticed in the text that the author is trying to stress that the

The first photo, after talking about aneroxia and bulimia shows a cartoon image of a man about to
devour an entire turkey. It stresses the dangers of binge eating and then making yourself vomit to rid
yourself of all the food you just ate. The second cartoon is shown after the author discusses how
unhealthy negative body image is. Having low self esteem and feeling like you re not thin enough is
also dangerous. The picture shows a thin woman looking at herself in the mirror and instead of her
seeing herself as she is, she sees a much larger reflection of herself. This shows that she has a negative
body image idea of her own body and feels like she is fat and wants to lose more weight, even though
she is actually already thin. In the grammar, I noticed that every time the author wrote about the
perfect body she used quotation marks around the word perfect. There s no such thing as perfect and

Use Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter
Q.1 The meaning of irony is the expression by using language that usually means the opposite of the
meaning or what is being said which is said to be dark humour. Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl
uses irony when Patrick is hit on the back of the head by a frozen leg of lamb. It is also ironic when
the detectives were talking about how finding the weapon would help find the suspect when they were
actually eating the weapon. This technique is used by the author in order to add more detail in the
story and make it sound more ironic and interesting. This technique makes the story more interesting
and mocking so that the reader is more engaged? Q.2 A Daughter s story written by Fatima Moradi is

perspective of three different philosophers who all have their own ideas of how the state should

Other citizens will not be born into a wealthy family, be well educated, and others will have bad luck
and end up in the lower class. There is also a middle class for hard working individuals who are
neither weathly nor poor, but have a steady job and can support their family. This will be the largest
class in the state. Marx would disagree with this because multiple classes will eventually lead to the
wealthy exploiting the lower classes. Marx would disagree with the middle class being the staple to
my society. In his opinion the middle class is nonexistent because one either makes a fortune or hardly
anything at all. Marx believes that there are only two classes in society, the property owners and the
property less workers (Marx [1884] 2011, 570). Capitalism fails to unite the classes and have them
working for a common good, instead it is based on greed and competition which causes the
estrangement out of the worker. The estrangement causes the worker to become alienated during work.
There are three reasons why the worker becomes alienated and they are: labor is external to the
worker, the worker alienates himself through labor, and finally man is a species being and they lose
relationship to the other actors. All of the reasons of estrangement make the worker work a job where
he does repetitive skills, feels unhappy, ruins his mind, and works for another worker so that person

Acute Stressors
Cohen et al. (1998) focused on observing the impact of acute and chronic life stressors on the
susceptibility and development of colds in people. Generally, the research question asks whether or
not these acute and chronic stressors, in addition to behavioral factors impact patient susceptibility to
two types of common cold. A hypothesis that can be derived from the study is that those with an
abundant amount of chronic stressors will be more susceptible in comparison to acute stressors.
Previous research on the topic from (Lepore, Miles, Levy, 1997) hold the same conclusion that long

A Defining Moment Essay
Many people influenced and events my reading and writing development throughout my childhood
from my mother, my elementary librarian, and Sesame Street, to getting my first pair of glasses. We
all have defining moments in our lives where we can look back and say, That moment changed my
life. This is the story of the defining moment that changed the way I read and write, and I learned it
from a whale!
It was the beginning of my seventh grade year. I was about twelve years old and, I guess you could

my class. As part of this program we were required to read at a certain level or read a certain number

I thought to myself, hey, I like whales. I ve read stories about ships and pirates and stuff before. This
looks like something I might like. I can still smell the old paper and threaded binding resonating in my
mind as I opened the book and scrolled through the pages, soaking in the vibrant illustrations of what
would soon become my obsession for the next six months.
Happy with my selection and feeling fairly proud of myself, I take the book to the check out desk. The
desk is occupied by the stereotypical librarian. She is an older lady probably in her sixties with gray
wiry hair and half square bi focal glasses that sit on the end of her nose. As I place the book on the
counter, she looks down her nose and through her glasses at me with a look of skepticism. Frowning
as she speaks, she tells me that maybe I should choose something else. Undaunted, I refuse and ask to
check out the book. She gives a few other suggestions but again, I refuse. She wishes me luck as she
slides it back to me and I stuff the hefty book into my backpack.
I start reading the book and right away it is intimidating from the very first paragraph. I am faced with
language and sentence structure I do not understand, what is a bedfellow and why does he carry a
purse? Is he gay? Immediately I am second guessing my decision but I am determined to get through
this book. It takes me the better part of a week to get through the first chapter. I

Silko s Three-C Themes
After a discussion in class, the professor and students acknowledged a concise meaning for the
definition of theme. The literature class concluded that theme can be defined with three aspects. First,
it can be used in the form of being implicit or insinuated. This means it is rarely acknowledged and
masked by the author s words. Second, it can be used as explicit or instantly recognizable. For
example, when Silko says that Teofilo is dead, he openly states it in the work. Lastly, the theme is the
main idea that the author wants to impress upon the readers through actions of the characters and the
setting. For instance, When Leon paints Teofilo s face he is sharing an action to the audience.
However, there must be evidence for this trio of reasons. The audience will find them with the three C
theme. Change, continuity, and creativity are the three implied and explicit elements given by the
author. Like a three stranded braid, the three C theme is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first factor in the theme would be change, which is used in the context of altering or converting.
Silko s text is implying the New Mexico tribe s altering of their faith and conversion to Roman
Catholicism. For example, in section 1 of the text, the author notes that the characters are still
practicing pagan worship. Yet, in section 4, they go to the priest for Sprinkling of the Holy Water. The
theme of change is an explicit action. It is implied that the Indians have not left the boundaries of their
Gods to form a devout unity with the Evangelicals. Next, we can grasp the idea of continuity. This is
another significant ingredient for the theme. Having a connection into eternalness is implied and
explicit during Teofilo s burial and the hope that might bring rain. Last of the three factors is
creativity. A people without a vision or dream will perish. The inspiring thought of Heaven the dream
of the afterlife is imperative for the tribe s spiritual

In short, TQM programs require a change in the organizational philosophy and culture.
3. PURPOSE OF THE INTERVENTION:
The purpose of Total Quality Management is to increase customer satisfaction by improving the
quality of the goods or services offered by the organization. This improvement is centered on the
product or services, and the processes involved in making or delivering the product or service to the
customer. Ultimately the goal of TQM is to make quality the way of doing things within the
organization.
4. EFFECTIVENESS CRITERIA:
In all Total Quality Management programs the ultimate effectiveness criterion is customer satisfaction.
According to the research, to reach this ultimate goal of effectiveness requires that the organization
measure several other criteria on a continual basis (Weaver, 1991; Hackman Wageman, 1995;
Dahlgaard, 1999; Clark, 2000). The appropriate criteria to measure depends on the type of
organization, and whether they deliver a product or a service. In a production based organization, the
effectiveness criteria are divided into product measures and employee measures. The possible
measures for the product include: increases in production, increases in sales, increases in market share,
increases in stock prices, reductions in the product cycle time, reductions in the number of reworks,
reductions in the inventories, and reductions in customer returns. The employee measures include:
satisfaction with the company,

The Effects Of Osha s Mandate Under Section 3 ( 8 ) Essay
The Supreme Court was requested to rule on the cotton dust standard using the OSHA s mandate
under section 3(8) whose objective was to protect workers from the exposure of hazardous materials.
In the Department of Industrial Union, the Benzene decision decided by a divided court invalidated
the OSHA s benzene standard. According to the judges, OSHA had to base its findings on substantial
evidence rather than mere assumptions. These records should show that occupational exposure to the
regulated substance presents significant health risk (Schulte, et al., 2014).
Apparently, the American Textile Manufacturers did not question the validity of the OSHA s findings
before determining the risks associated with the exposure of cotton dust while working. However, the
personnel in this industry concurred that those exposed to cotton dust contract Byssinosis. In their
opinion, a less stringent standard would be enough to protect the workers and still be economically
feasible. Justice Brennan and Justice Stephens upheld the cotton dust standard by writing their opinion
for a five person majority. One of the major queries was whether the labor secretary was mandated by
the OSH Act in promulgating a section 6(b) (5) standard to determine whether the cost of the standard
bear a reasonable relationship to its benefits. This issue had been evaded by the Court in Benzene,
aside from Powell s lone concurrence (Crowley, 1987). Justice Brennan rejected the argument raised
on the requirement of

Foreign Donations Worth 98 $ Million Essay
Windows exploded as the storm sustained its wrath. Shards pierced soft bodies. My father wrapped in
blood. Next to him, sat on a pile of wet paper, my mother grasping a rosario as she clutched my 10
year old brother. I looked down the stairs all I saw was a surge of thick brown water determined to
cover the entire first floor. In shock, we had no choice but to wait. Outside, I saw tangled electric posts
as they collapsed like dominoes. Cars, bikes and buses rushed through waters stacked a mountain pile.
The storm was only the tip of the iceberg; aftermath worse.
In despair to survive, all stampeded their way to loot stores. Money had no value and God
unrecognized. Worse our own president neglected to help and managed to point blames to the city

by the government. Politics still preeminent in the midst of devastation. Our house completely
vanished. For six months, we slept in a tent on my father s office rooftop. We lit candles to survive the
night. The glimmer of the candlelight etched in my mind the gift of a second life. I realized that life is
too short to delay critically important decisions. If I wanted to impact the world, the time is now. As a
child, I knew I was one of the initiators of change. I always have been involved in civic engagement.

Canterbury Tales Masculinity Analysis
In this paper, I will explore various discourses that shaped the understanding of male gender in
medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales.
The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period. The
physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the domain
of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were based on a
common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to women. A key
component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of taking care of
women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not dry up and she
remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was considered as a valid
reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked with her husband s honor.
Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of weakness in a man. A
disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his masculinity. A consequence of
this was that a woman s body became a site of sexual violence to avenge one s honor. The Reeve s
Tale presents an instance of this, where two Cambridge undergraduates are determined to teach the
dishonest miller a lesson and achieve their motive by sleeping with his daughter and wife. Another
parameter on which manhood was judged was the sex of the child he engendered. In his writings,
Aristotle had claimed that male semen was the source of life. This belief was reinforced by the
medieval physicians. If a man begot a male heir, his masculinity was bolstered. These discourses
resulted in a strict division between the two sexes. While women could transgress this code of conduct
without severe repercussions, men were forbidden from exhibiting any feminine behavior. Many
instances of cross dressing among women have been found both in literature and reality; however such
impersonation was not permitted for men.
The definition of masculinity has been broadly divided into: heroic, Christian, courtly, and intellectual.
The varying definitions of masculinity often gave rise

much like the hollow men. The hollow men worship stone images (46) or fake idols and gods under

Helen Keller Quotes
Helen Keller s acts influenced the disabled. Even while being disabled she was still able to achieve her
goals. She was born on June 27th, 1880 as a healthy baby and over time developed a sickness which
caused her to lose her hearing and seeing, but this did blind. She stop her from exploring the world.
Her parents cared much about Helen, they called every teacher or school possible to help Helen get
through this sickness. Until they found a teacher that was top rated, Anne Sullivan. She came to move
in with the Keller s. Helen was not a big fan of her in the beginning but created a great relationship
with her at the end.
The activism of Helen Keller had a profound influence on people with disabilities. Helen did many
public speakings, talked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She will always have a reputation left behind of how she improved our world today with all the
disabilities. She visited slums and learned about the struggles of workers and immigrants to improve
their working and living conditions. Despite her dreams for a better future for the disabled, today the
blind are still struggling to achieve equality and find employment. People dout them that they won t be

Cafe Monte Bianco
Café Monte Bianco
To analyze this case, the analyst conducted liquidity, solvency and profitability ratios for Cafés Monte
Bianco along with sales and income projections for operating the business under both private label and
premium brands. The analyst has found that the firm utilizes high leverage to achieve ROE. Further, it
is the opinion of the analyst that the firm should abandon private label brands and market its own
premium brand; thereby leveraging its industry reputation as a fine purveyor of coffees.
Cafés Monte Bianco Liquidity Analysis: The current ratio is 0.57 and the quick ratio is 0.41. This is
due to higher liabilities and is an indicator of poor liquidity. The Inventory turnover ratio is a healthy

Since an ROE of 21.48% equals the product of 4.41% and 4.87 (ROA and Equity Multiplier), it
indicates that the firm is able to achieve such high ROE only through a high financial leverage.
Strategic Action for Cafes Monte Bianco: Assuming that they will be able to sell all produced
capacity, with 0% advertising, and with a 6,000,000 kg annual capacity [Exhibit 2 in case], CMB
should be able to generate revenues of 178,322,200,000 liras (Scenario 2). With resulting COGS of
114,954,330,000 liras and other expenses, they should still be able to generate a Net Income of
28,732,818,000 liras. Alternatively, if the company spent the equivalent of 10% of sales on
advertising, revenues will increase to 215.62 billion lira, and net profit to 25 billion lira. So the
company may be better off not advertising, at 0% (Scenario 3).
Pursuing Dino s Production Plan for only Private Brand (Scenario 1) will result in annual revenues of
just 52.8 billion liras, COGS of 42.91 billion liras and even with reduced advertising and selling
expenses, a resulting net loss of 1,138,659,000 liras, before taxes. This is clearly not a viable strategy.
Since the firm utilized only 39.13% of installed plant capacity in year 2000, they clearly need to
increase revenues and profit margins by pursuing their own premium brand, instead of pursuing
private label brands with higher volumes, but much lower profit margins, and an

Teenage Pregnancy And Teen Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy has been famously depicted as a situation that involves the female adolescents. For
one to be dubbed as a pregnant teenager, she ought to be at the early age of twelve years though in
most scenarios it has been fourteen and older. In the developed as well as developing countries, the
cause of the teenage pregnancy has been common with most of them being related to the specific
situation of the teenager as well as the group that the teenager interacts with. However, the rate of the
teenage pregnancy has been varying from one nation to another nation and has been related to the
variance of the sexual activities, general sex education as well as contraceptives that are accessible to
the teenagers (Atkinson, et al, 2016). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the population of the pregnant teenagers is compared with all the teenagers, the once who have
been seen to be susceptible to getting pregnant are more likely to have come from the poor or the low
income families and those who ends up giving birth having come from the disadvantaged background
(Putnam Hornstein, et al, 2016).
One of the situations that have been seen to be common in southern California is that poorer teenagers
have always not been experienced sexually as teenagers from the advantaged families, though they
have been much likely to become pregnant once they engage in the sexual practice. The teenagers that
have been hailing from the families that are financially stable have been more likely in terminating the
pregnancy once they discover it as compared to those from the disadvantaged families where the
teenagers have been opting to wait for delivery s they cannot support the termination of the pregnancy.
It is a factor that has been supported by the proof of nearly seventy percent of the high income
adolescents who become pregnant ending up in aborting. The figure is very high as compared to that
of the poor and low income families that rage between 20 to 30 percent (Putnam Hornstein, et al,
2013).
The socioeconomic factor has been affecting the education of the people directly and hence facilitating
the cases of teenage pregnancy. It is this aspect that the pregnant teenagers who are the parents have

  • 3. Who Is Lenin A Political Genius Introduction Vladimir Lenin, who became the leader of the Bolshevik in the time of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1903, claimed to be a traditional Marxist. People such as historians debated Lenin was not an orthodox Marxist but a type of revisionist. However, he did not make any major alterations to Marx s ideas but instead decided to add his own to fit to benefit him and his country with modern times and he was the key defender of Marx when his theories were attacked by revisionists such as Bernstein, Lenin defended Marx s work due to his respect of his theories. The theories revolving around Lenin changed over time due to the increase in resources available. The original accounts attack Lenin, accusing him of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historians such as Neil Harding, however, said do Lenin the justice of treating him as a serious theoretician and political leader (Hearse) . This led to the development of impartial and sympathetic views to give Lenin the benefit of the doubt. Traditional ideas Very few politicians can ever argue against the statement that Lenin was a political genius. Lenin was a master at manipulation and opportunity which came when he discovered Marx s work. The division in arguments occurs, however, when one attempts to define genius due to his careless actions in which he destroyed the working class . The traditional and generally accepted view of Lenin is that he had a great ability to grasp the potentialities of a situation and twist them to his own benefit to be able to maximize his power, which is why the word genius might be used lightly . Lenin was merciless when it came to being an instinctive politician and practitioner of revolution he wanted to maintain his political power and gain more, but was inconsistent, unorthodox and indecisive when it came to political thought and theories which was why historians do not now how to picture Lenin. We have seen the numbers on the oil bottles and read what the manufacturers recommend for the oil but, how were those numbers derived? The increase in technology has changed the way it was measured, but the numbers have stayed consistent so as not to make consumers learn a new system, or have the oil manufacturers feel obligated to list both the old numbers and the new numbers on the labels. Multi grade oils are the best of both worlds and this accomplished by using additives to increase viscosity with the increase temperature. There are many types of lubricants, just make sure that you are using engine oil, and the engine oil for your type of engine, two or four stroke engines, as other lubricants have similar gradings. A little history of oil: In 1866, Medical Doctor John Ellis was trying to determine if there were any medicinal properties of crude oil. He did not find any medical properties, but realized that there were potentials in lubrication for steam engines. At that time, lubrication was mainly animal or vegetable fat, and that has started to come back around full circle, but has potential since new technology for refining those fats into a more usable lubrication. • 7. Reproductive Rights Argument Essay The argument about when life begins is nearly invalid in comparison to the argument that there is a risen rate of unplanned pregnancies. Due to the raising rate of pregnancy, present day America has turned abortions into a form of contraception. When two individuals decide to have intercourse, they are exercising their reproductive rights. If one has exercised a specific right, one must also accept the responsibility of what comes after. For example, think about speeding on the highway. One has the right to drive a car, as long as the set rules are followed. Unlike most laws, rights, or rules in America where a fine may be placed, the consequence of one s reproductive rights is not illegal and is another human being. Thus, one must accept responsibility for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rape, of course, is an exception since a woman is not exercising her reproductive rights, they are being exercised for her. If a woman cannot physically control what has happened to her, she should have the ability to handle the outcome in whatever way she feels fit. Many also argue that there are other ways to prevent pregnancy. For example, there are multiple birth control options. Although birth control may not be 100%, this is much safer than not using it. In addition, birth control, like condoms, prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. In that case, everyone wins. There is no reason for two individuals who do not want a child to not use some from contraception. There is also a grey area between whether or not birth control is a form of abortion or if abortion is a form of birth control. Neither of these statements are true. Birth control is taken to prevent pregnancy from happening at all. An abortion takes place after pregnancy has already occurred and kills the living, growing human being. One cannot argue against the idea that killing a human for your own convenience is immoral. These ideas are simple, if one does not want a child, one should not act in a way that will ... ( While reading Beowulf, many have a series of questions throughout the epic poem. On of the many questions is about what motivates the epic hero of the tale to danger his life. Beowulf lives in Geatland and shows up in the land of the Danes and asks to fight a monster to help them. He ends up fighting the monster s mother as well as a deadly dragon. What motivates Beowulf to go after these three monsters? Beowulf goes after the monsters because of Anglo Saxon codes, for vengeance, and fame. To conclude, Beowulf s motivations are fame, obligation, and vengeance. Without the ideals of the Anglo Saxon times, Beowulf would have almost no reason to fight Grendel. According to Freud s theory of human behavior, Williams did not possess the ability to control his desires. Underneath Russell Williams exterior of success and loyalty lay a dark appetite for power, control and superiority over women that eventually obliterated the lives of Marie France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. said Ian MacLeod from the Ottawa Citizen. From the perspective of a feminist, Williams actions urge for greater awareness and advocacy to stop the sexualized violence as well as the degradation of women across Canada and the world. It is too easy to dismiss Williams acts as those of a deranged man and to perceive no need further response. If anything, the Williams case must call us all to greater awareness and advocacy to end all sexualized violence and degradation of women. said Alice Schuda. There are various factors that may have occurred throughout Williams s life that could thoroughly account for his sexually deviant behaviour. The feeling of male dominance such as his father or a military superior could have led Russell to express his infuriation and dominance on the opposite sex. The Real Estate Bubble Crisis From the late 1990 s to mid 2000 s the United States experienced an unprecedented run up of real estate prices across the country that reached a peaked in 2006, in some areas up to an eighty percent increase. After the increase in prices, there was a sudden collapse of real estate prices in 2008, brought on by a surge in foreclosures, and an increasing inventory of housing.1 Foreclosure increases came from an unprecedented rise in mortgages called, subprime mortgages. These risky subprime mortgages, and the cottage industry within the financial sector that profited from them, created an overly leveraged and over exposed finance industry that created a massive recession when the bubble popped. In this essay, we will look into the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foreign investors starving for fixed income securities that also had returns better than government securities, decided to invest in mortgage back securities provided by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In order to take advantage of the savings glut Wall Street firms began to package many of these sub prime mortgages together and create what was known as a mortgage backed security.1 A mortgage backed security, was an asset backed security that was secured by a collection of upwards a several hundred mortgages. The issue was the mortgage back securities provided by Fannie, Freddie, and investment banks were given good ratings by rating agencies such as Standard and Poor s and Moody s, even though these assets were toxic. They gave the mortgage back securities good ratings, because their risk assessment models solely used previous housing data, and did not include any possibility of a fall in housing prices.3 As a result, overseas investors believed they were getting secure assets with above average returns, but instead they were getting very toxic assets instead. So the interest in these mortgage back securities continued the flood of savings, continuing the suppression of interest rates and maintained the status quo.2 Banks lent out these sub prime mortgages at a prolific rate because even if the borrower foreclosed, banks were still able to make a profit, as they resold a higher priced house. Tall and skinny women and bulked up men. You see these kind of people in magazines, on television and even on video games. I believe the purpose of the article was to help people realize that many people have things they don t like about their own bodies and in fact, two out of every five girls and one out of every five boys are uncomfortable with their bodies. This is stated at the end of the article. I believe the author succeeds in identifying the objective since the entire article is on the dangers of low self esteem and feeling like you need to be thin to be pretty. The author mentions anorexia and bulimia as some of the diseases from trying to hard to achieve such a skinny body type. The picture shows a thin woman looking at herself in the mirror and instead of her seeing herself as she is, she sees a much larger reflection of herself. This shows that she has a negative body image idea of her own body and feels like she is fat and wants to lose more weight, even though she is actually already thin. Use Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter Q.1 The meaning of irony is the expression by using language that usually means the opposite of the meaning or what is being said which is said to be dark humour. Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl uses irony when Patrick is hit on the back of the head by a frozen leg of lamb. It is also ironic when the detectives were talking about how finding the weapon would help find the suspect when they were actually eating the weapon. There is also a middle class for hard working individuals who are neither weathly nor poor, but have a steady job and can support their family. This will be the largest class in the state. Marx would disagree with this because multiple classes will eventually lead to the wealthy exploiting the lower classes. Marx would disagree with the middle class being the staple to my society. In his opinion the middle class is nonexistent because one either makes a fortune or hardly anything at all. Marx believes that there are only two classes in society, the property owners and the property less workers (Marx [1884] 2011, 570). Capitalism fails to unite the classes and have them working for a common good, instead it is based on greed and competition which causes the estrangement out of the worker. The estrangement causes the worker to become alienated during work. There are three reasons why the worker becomes alienated and they are: labor is external to the worker, the worker alienates himself through labor, and finally man is a species being and they lose relationship to the other actors. All of the reasons of estrangement make the worker work a job where he does repetitive skills, feels unhappy, ruins his mind, and works for another worker so that person can become wealthy off of their ... Generally, the research question asks whether or not these acute and chronic stressors, in addition to behavioral factors impact patient susceptibility to two types of common cold. This is the story of the defining moment that changed the way I read and write, and I learned it from a whale! It was the beginning of my seventh grade year. I was about twelve years old and, I guess you could say a nerd. I did well in school so I was placed in the Gifted and Talented program with other nerds in my class. Happy with my selection and feeling fairly proud of myself, I take the book to the check out desk. The desk is occupied by the stereotypical librarian. She is an older lady probably in her sixties with gray wiry hair and half square bi focal glasses that sit on the end of her nose. • 32. Silko s Three-C Themes After a discussion in class, the professor and students acknowledged a concise meaning for the definition of theme. The literature class concluded that theme can be defined with three aspects. First, it can be used in the form of being implicit or insinuated. This means it is rarely acknowledged and masked by the author s words. Second, it can be used as explicit or instantly recognizable. For example, when Silko says that Teofilo is dead, he openly states it in the work. Lastly, the theme is the main idea that the author wants to impress upon the readers through actions of the characters and the setting. For instance, When Leon paints Teofilo s face he is sharing an action to the audience. However, there must be evidence for this trio of reasons. The audience will find them with the three C theme. The first factor in the theme would be change, which is used in the context of altering or converting. For example, in section 1 of the text, the author notes that the characters are still practicing pagan worship. Yet, in section 4, they go to the priest for Sprinkling of the Holy Water. The theme of change is an explicit action. It is implied that the Indians have not left the boundaries of their Gods to form a devout unity with the Evangelicals. Next, we can grasp the idea of continuity. This is another significant ingredient for the theme. Having a connection into eternalness is implied and explicit during Teofilo s burial and the hope that might bring rain. Last of the three factors is creativity. The Effects Of Osha s Mandate Under Section 3 ( 8 ) Essay The Supreme Court was requested to rule on the cotton dust standard using the OSHA s mandate under section 3(8) whose objective was to protect workers from the exposure of hazardous materials. In the Department of Industrial Union, the Benzene decision decided by a divided court invalidated the OSHA s benzene standard. According to the judges, OSHA had to base its findings on substantial evidence rather than mere assumptions. These records should show that occupational exposure to the regulated substance presents significant health risk (Schulte, et al., 2014). Apparently, the American Textile Manufacturers did not question the validity of the OSHA s findings before determining the risks associated with the exposure of cotton dust while working. However, the personnel in this industry concurred that those exposed to cotton dust contract Byssinosis. In their opinion, a less stringent standard would be enough to protect the workers and still be economically feasible. Justice Brennan and Justice Stephens upheld the cotton dust standard by writing their opinion for a five person majority. One of the major queries was whether the labor secretary was mandated by the OSH Act in promulgating a section 6(b) (5) standard to determine whether the cost of the standard bear a reasonable relationship to its benefits. • 39. Canterbury Tales Masculinity Analysis In this paper, I will explore various discourses that shaped the understanding of male gender in medieval England and the notion of masculinity in Canterbury Tales. The medieval concept of maleness was heavily influenced by the writings of the classical period. The physiological and other medical theories that constituted this concept were not restricted to the domain of medicine. They were supported by the religious doctrines. All of these rhetorics were based on a common assumption that men are physically, morally, and intellectually superior to women. A key component that defined maleness was virility. Men were charged with the duty of taking care of women s health by regularly performing sexual intercourse so that their uterus did not dry up and she remained fertile. So important was this trait to the idea of masculinity that it was considered as a valid reason for divorce. This caused a woman s chastity to be inextricably linked with her husband s honor. Adulterous behavior on the wife s part was considered to be a sign of weakness in a man. A disobedient daughter also tainted a father s honor and diminished his masculinity. A consequence of this was that a woman s body became a site of sexual violence to avenge one s honor. The Reeve s Tale presents an instance of this, where two Cambridge undergraduates are determined to teach the dishonest miller a lesson and achieve their motive by sleeping with his daughter and wife. Another parameter on which manhood was judged was the sex of the child he engendered. In his writings, Aristotle had claimed that male semen was the source of life. This belief was reinforced by the medieval physicians. If a man begot a male heir, his masculinity was bolstered. These discourses resulted in a strict division between the two sexes. While women could transgress this code of conduct without severe repercussions, men were forbidden from exhibiting any feminine behavior. Many instances of cross dressing among women have been found both in literature and reality; however such impersonation was not permitted for men. The definition of masculinity has been broadly divided into: heroic, Christian, courtly, and intellectual. The varying definitions of masculinity often gave rise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
