Each of the sacred texts of Christianity, Greek Polytheism, Ancient Macedonian Religion, and
Judaism outlines an apocalypse myth which illustrates a near end of the world, and in each myth, the
gods or God select survivors. Although each religion is unique, there are some stark similarities
among the myths including the methods used to attack the world and the way the survivors rescue
themselves and others. Some religious texts portray one person saving people who will repopulate the
Earth, but others describe a group of people or even a small population withstanding the apocalypse.
Investigating several religious texts reveals that even though some apocalyptic trends remain constant
throughout each belief, the selection and utilization of humans by the higher power changes slightly
between each myth. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains an apocalyptic myth where a god indirectly
chooses a survivor to rescue the human race, and he receives a blessing from the gods in return for his
bravery and success. In the epic about ancient Mesopotamian religion, Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh
the story of how he became immortal after surviving the gods downpour. Utnapishtim lived on the
banks of the Euphrates in a town called Shuruppak when the great gods decided to send down the
Deluge. Each of the gods swore on this plan, and chose to keep it secret. However, one god named Ea

we see and judge others. Hypocrisy is demonstrated and observed on an everyday basis in our society,
and even in the rural town of Maycomb in the 1930s it is evident as well. In To Kill a Mockingbird,
two children by the names of Scout and Jem start to see hypocrisy more and more frequently because
of the events that happen to unfold. This includes , including an african american young man accused
of something he did not do. This amazing novel by Harper Lee shows that hypocrisy is closely linked
to privilege, and a dominating opinion about others. The characters Miss Gates and Mrs. Merriweather
are great examples of hypocrisy and Atticus is a great counterexample, showing an effort of being
larger than others in Maycomb. Miss Gates demonstrates hypocrisy in the novel. It is shown when she
is speaking to Scout s class. She is teaching about Hitler, speaking about how he does not treat
everybody equally. She expresses her beliefs against prejudice and the persecution of those who aren t
like her. This is hypocritical because she does not treat everybody equally in her own town, and yet
she is teaching the opposite of her actions. Miss Gates says, Over here we don t believe in persecuting
anybody. Persecution comes from people who are prejudice. (Lee 281) This shows what Miss Gates is
teaching to her students and it makes Scout confused because she knows that Miss Gates is

Malathion is an insecticide used on crops, residential areas, pet flea and tick collars and even in lice
shampoo to control insects. In the right doses it s generally harmless; however, being a toxin is never
risk free. There are many possible health issues that exposure can bring. Respiratory problems and
nervous system issues are a few serious ones. More basic effects can be irritation, nausea and rashes.
High amounts of malathion can have some serious long term effects. The EPA s reference dose of this
chemical for the general population is .14mg/kg/day. This is the safest dose we can be exposed to
while also still being effective. To pose any immediate danger, the levels of malathion in the air would

immune disease that is characterized by fatigable weakness in the skeletal muscles. This occurs at the

attaches to receptors at the post synaptic neuron in order to generate a muscle contraction. Basically

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a disorder of the brain that is observed in people who have involuntary
movements or vocalizations called tics. Named after Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette who first
discovered this disorder, this French neurologist described a noblewoman who exhibited these
symptoms in 1885. These tics could range from repetitive movements to inappropriate vocalizations.
Early symptoms of Tourette syndrome occur in children at around 3 and 9 years and occur in equal
percentages in all ethnic groups. However, TS occurs more often in males than females with over
200,000 Americans having severe TS. The reason for this is because the syndrome is a dominant trait
genetically passed down on the X chromosome. Since males have only one X chromosome, they are
more likely to have it than females, specifically three times more likely. Even though TS is chronic,
most people who are diagnosed early can live a more improved lifestyle for the rest of their lives. The
first reported case of Tourette syndrome in history was in 1825, when Jean Gaspard Itard wrote about
French noblewoman Marquise de Dampierre in one of his journals. In one of his entries, he
documented a time when she uttered a lot of swear words in public, to the shock of all her friends and
family. After his writings, Madam Dampierre was rediscovered by Dr. George Gilles de la Tourette in
1885. This French neurologist described similar patients like the Madam Dampierre. His patients all
twitched wildly.

Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an extremely
interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National Basketball
Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league and get them
excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the athletic wear world,
Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they were just as good if not
better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor for athletic wear and sporting
goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by the name of Donte Grand and is
an extremely skilled basketball player. He grows up in the inner city and does not come from a lot, but
he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you come from, if you want it all, you are
going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial, he transitions from his front yard to the
local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and eventually pro teams where he is playing in the
NBA Finals which is the championship with big time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant
and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos and pathos to help convey its message. The first
rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the appeal to pathos in the advertisement. The first

With the title alone, it is easy to assume that Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play would not be a typical
play. Unlike other performances, Mr. Burns is not a simple narrative. Quite literally, it is a play within
a play. The narrative lacks structure due to how it stands as a social commentary on the importance of
entertainment to society. Mr. Burns began after what seems to be a traumatic event that has affected
everyone s way of life. From what we see as our survivors huddled around a campfire in the woods.
They recount a normalcy of how life used to be, an episode of The Simpsons. Throughout the recounts
on what happened in the episode Cape Feare , the play introduces a new character which gives
exposition to the current landscape of the United States. As the play continues into its second and third
act, there is a large shift on the scenery, lighting, etc. as the cast begins to recreate the episode of The
Simpsons which they discuss in the previous act. While it is easy to get lost on why everything is
happening, why they are performing, it comes to the central conflict of reclaiming normalcy of the
world which has past, an episode of television. As the performance goes on, the costume design
represents where our characters are at in their timeline. While, in the first act, the characters are
