Utilization of Biodegradable Kitchen Wastes Into Organic...
Utilization of Biodegradable Kitchen Wastes into Organic Fertilizer Using Earthworms * Abstract
One of the effective means to at least lessen the occurrence of our present garbage disposal problem is
through the use of methods that are non toxic, less expensive, less harmful, and yet equally effective.
This project aims to provide for a natural and effective way of disposing garbage.
During the experiment, kitchen wastes were collected. The materials were shredded and placed in
garbage bags with small holes. The temperature inside the bags was allowed to lower.
Three set ups were prepared and were covered with plastic. The first box contained pure carabao
manurd, the second box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent ... Show more content

Every living cell contains nitrogen and its abundance leads to green, succulent growth.
Phosphorous occurs in the protoplasm, with its great concentration in seeds thereby increasing their
production. Potassium influences the uptake of other elements and affects both respiration and
transpiration (Fitzpatrick, 1974). * Methodology
Kitchen wastes, composed mainly of vegetable and fruit peelings, were gathered, shredded, and placed
in garbage bags with small holes. Temperature build up inside the bags due to partial decomposition
was measured and allowed to lower down for one month until three consecutive declining of
temperature were achieved.
Three set ups measuring 15 x 8 inches were prepared and were covered with plastic. One box
contained pure carabao manure, the other box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent
processed kitchen wastes and the last box contained pure processed kitchen waste. About one hundred
pieces of Lumbricus terrestris were placed in each set up. The boxes were placed in a lighted area to
prevent the worms from escaping Since worms are known to be light sensitive. The set ups were
checked daily and watered to keep moisture. Upon consumption of the contents of the boxes, as
evidenced by the appearance of brown granular structures, the set ups were spread on newspapers
under the sunlight. The Lumbricus terrestris were gathered. The resultant product, called earthworm
castings, were then sun dried and passed

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan
Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the many
during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men and
women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France. Under
rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the coastline, but not
without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reagan was made to commemorate those who
fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their lives during those hard days
of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those who gave and risked their lives
during the invasion of Normandy.
Logos is can be seen frequently in this speech. President Reagan was able to use logic to honor the
soldiers that fought in the invasion. He used the number of casualties to show ... Show more content

Reagan spoke with passion and sorrow. But he showed an appreciation and respect for those who
fought. He uses the word we very often, which unites the people and shows union. In his speech he
uses the word we 19 times to show the bond between us as a people, and as a nation. He uses
rhetorical questions asking why they served and fought till their last breath. You were young the day
you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before
you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the
instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the
armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it
was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with love and loyalty for their families and
their country. Reagan uses this in his speech to make the audience think deeply about why the men did

Sodic Soils in the United States
In North America, sodic soils are mostly found in the northern Great Plains of the United States. Sodic
soils develops on glacial deposits and till of saline shales (Heck and Mermut, 1992). The presence of a
fluctuating water table, landscape position, topography, parent material permeability elevate the
sodicity on glacial deposits (Wilding et al., 1963; Lewis and drew, 1973; Munn and Boehm, 1983;
Seelig et al., 190; Richardson et al, 1992). The total area of North Dakota in the United States is about
18.4 million hectares and of these 1.9 million hectare area are considered as sodic and distributed
across several parent materials (Web Soil Survey, 2013). Sodic soils are characterized by high sodium
(Na) concentration in cation exchange complex. Which is about greater than 15% and defined as the
soil with high sodium as compared to calcium and magnesium (Salcon, 1997, Soil Taxonomy, 1999).
Sodic soil is one of the problematic soils which weaken the soil structure of the soils (Rengasamy and
walters, 1994). So it is important to study these soil in detail by physical, chemical and micro
morphological method and in relation to environment.
The typical morphological or physical features of the area with sodic soils were study in the field. The
vertical section from the surface were dig up to the parent material and designate them into different
horizon on the basis of soils color, texture, structure etc. Sodic soils develop a dense prismatic or
columnar structure below the

Ancient Greece Festivals
In Ancient Greece, women were allowed to take part in nearly all religious festivals, and there were
even some restricted to only women. Thesmophoria, a great festival, is of significance as it is a festival
which celebrates a fertility rite for Demeter. Married noblewomen are the only people who can
observe and celebrate this festival. The basis of this celebration was women preforming rites and
celebrating on Demeter s hilltop sanctuary for three days. Sadly, there is little evidence of specific
rituals, there is evidence that pigs were sacrificed and buried, and the remains of the pigs sacrificed
from the previous year were then offered to the goddess. In general, most festivals in Ancient Greece
were to praise and honour Demeter, a selected few honoured other goddesses. Other festivals such as,
Brauronia and Arrheporia are also included, which are rites of passage in which girls became women.
The festivals that women were allowed to partake, or led, were generally about a girl s development
into adulthood, or celebrating their womanhood.
The Cult of Athena was an integral part of society on Ancient Greece. In addition to this, women
played a vital role in the cult. Athena as a priesthood figure was of great importance, and she used her
power to influence political positions. Lesser Panathenaea is the most significantly festival while
looking at festivals to Athena, it was held o fa yearly basis and celebrated by both genders. During this
festival men and women were not

Fear Sometimes Goes Away Over Time Analysis
Fear sometimes goes away over time, like when you were little you were afraid of monsters under
your bed. Sometimes they stay with you for a lifetime. One thing is certain; fear is almost inevitable.
One of my biggest fears is drowning. When I go swimming I have to be able to touch something or
else I get panic attacks. This fear started when I was about seven. My friend and I decided to take the
swimming test so we could jump off the diving board. We wanted to be just like our friends who had
taken the test. We were told to go in the five foot part and swim two laps across. We both started out
doing well, but about halfway across I started drowning. My friend also started drowning and gasping.

My friend was taken to the hospital, where I later went and visited, she turned out fine as well. This
experience made me deathly afraid of water and I always have to be able to see and touch the bottom.
I don t think I ll ever be able to get over this fear. Another fear I have is having an intruder break into
my house. Every time I am home alone, I lock the door and I am constantly calling people to see when
they are coming home. This fear stems from the time my mom and stepdad went out to get groceries
and left my brothers and me at home. It was about 9:30 p.m. and it was dark outside. My brothers and
I were in the kitchen when we heard something upstairs and as we turned to look up at them we saw
someone wearing all black run past the stairs. We instantly ran back into my parent s room and

Myths And Fairy Tales Essay
Myths and fairy tales are universal stories that help connect people from different backgrounds to their
own history and culture. Fairy tales give the reader with adventures, and how good always defeats
evil, while myths present us with heroes going through incredible hardship and at the same time, they
represent the fundamental values of our society. These stories help us develop an understanding of the
cultural values and how the human mind works. Myths and fairy tales continue to change through time
to adapt according to the values and reflections of the current cultural norms we are currently living.

Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were commonly used
to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not until the Middle Ages
and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They started to be considered as
demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their evil bidding. In Harry Potter,
each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always
been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their
broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. A
witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and they were believed to embody demons and used
for spells.
In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts School of
Magic. A wand was a thin, handheld stick made of wood, stone or metals. It was a tool used to channel
the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is mentioned and in Greco
Roman mythology, the god Hermes had a special wand called a caduceus. In almost every childhood
story and fairy tale we have read, all the magical beings like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and
Sleeping Beauty, they all use a magic wand

The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay
Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in
each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy,
imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform
and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately
resulted in the downfall of the dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty relied heavily on the effectiveness of its fighting forces. However, due to
corruption and loss of skills the military began to crumble. Militarism, the use of army for political
advantage, became very influential for a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain
any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the
governments control over the country weakened.
Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially
corruption of the dynasty and its officials.
Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to
the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty
because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of
imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain .
Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many
officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money,
which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project.
Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the
rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another factor
influencing the economic decline was natural disasters.
Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and

Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia
Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell
walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an
evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of
species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether they
are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body cavities,
and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks down to two
subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges, who most
members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce. Eumetazoa
separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that branches off from
Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further divides among
protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes differentiate by the
embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions, known as cleavage, and
so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two dissimilar types of development.
Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two
different classes, one class being Spiralian protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic
development. Spiral

Anglo Saxon And Germanic Culture In Beowulf
Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture has a very deep culture, in which they are known in history. As
this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem.
With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf
exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with
Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this
ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty
was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about
Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him
alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that
would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the
famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was
one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men
arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him
they were just excited knowing he could be the one. The leader of the troop unlocked his word hoard;
the distinguished one delivered this answer: We belong by birth to the Geat people mission and owe

The Effect Of The Abdominal Drawing On Forward Steps
Article Analysis
Madokoro, S., Miaki, H., Yamazaki, T. (2014). The effect of the abdominal drawing in manoeuvre
during forward steps. Journal of Physical Therapy Science, 26(6), 889 893.
Performance of the ADIM with forward steps had a positive influence on abdominal thickness and
kinematics of hip and pelvis joints. The ADIM, a neuromuscular control exercise, increases function
of the TrA and internal oblique (IO) to create improved trunk stability. The objective was to examine
the influence of the ADIM on forward steps as a gait exercise.
A convenience sample of 20 healthy male volunteers from a university was obtained. At the time of
testing, these participants did not have any known lower back pain or neuromuscular disease. ... Show

During neutral standing, participants were asked to stand quietly and maintain gaze at a marker set in
front of them. For forward step without ADIM, each participant was first asked to walk around
comfortably to sense his or her normal step length. After assessing their normal step length, they were
asked to take a forward step that was comparable. Last, the proper performance of the ADIM was
practiced. Subjects were instructed to take in a deep breath, draw their belly button up and in towards
the spine as they exhale and to hold this position. Confirmation of the proper performance of the
ADIM was measured using ultrasound. Skin markers were placed on the visualized fascial planes for
reproducibility. Participants performed each of the three postures and data was collected.
The results found EO thickness increased in forward (right) step (p 0.05).
In conclusion, during forward steps of gait with ADIM, there was increased bilateral IO and TrA
thickness and increased hip extension. Increased hip extension during forward step with ADIM may
have been caused by the increased stability provided by IO and TrA, causing motion restriction at the
spine and pelvis, or there was increased gluteus maximus activation. Also, the ADIM potentially
caused bilateral activation of the IO and TrA and decreased contralateral pelvic rotation during
forward steps with ADIM. Some limitations of this study included the participant s characteristics, the
convenience of

Euthanasia and the Will to Live
The denial of food and fluids to Terri Schindler Schiavo, the 36 year old Florida woman in a

could be in this woman s place for a variety of reasons, like an auto accident, fall, mishap, etc. And
most Americans don t want to be treated by their family as Terri is being treated by her husband being

The surrogate decision maker is normally whomever is classed by the particular state as the closest
relative, but if no relatives are available may be a guardian or even the person s doctor. Such
surrogates are daily authorizing the cutoff of food and fluids to patients who are unable to speak for
themselves and never gave any indication that they might want to be starved. Only in the
comparatively rare cases when there is some dispute among relatives, such as in the Wendland case in
California, the earlier Hugh Finn case in Virginia, and the Schindler Schiavo case now in Florida, do
these cases reach public attention, normally in the context of lawsuits.
It should come as no surprise that, with important exceptions, the prevailing view in the judiciary, as
in the medical profession, is receptive to the quality of life ethic. Judges are often dismissive of the
pro life position that all human beings possess dignity and the right to live, regardless of their age or
degree of disability. When the relative or other individual designated by state law to make health care
decisions for an incompetent person who has left no clear advance directive chooses to cut off food

Indeed, the current battleground is over efforts by health care personnel to cut off food, fluid and life

Effective Supervision Requires Establishing Different...
Effective supervision requires establishing different levels of supervision in order to know which
offenders need closer supervision from those who require less supervision (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Generally, the supervision of offenders is categorized into three or four levels: maximum, medium and
minimum or maximum, high, standard, and administrative (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The
administrative level is for probationers or parolees who have committed minor offenses, satisfied
financial responsibilities, and been in compliance for two years (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Probationers and parolees on the administrative level do not require a personal visit or personal
contact with the officer (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Individuals on the administrative level are
required to call in and leave a voicemail or mail in a residence verification and employment document
(Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
A caseload is the number of individuals that one probation or parole officer is responsible for and can
supervise effectively (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The number of people that one officer can supervise
varies from state to state (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The more intensive the supervision is the lower
the officer s caseload (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). In Georgia, probation and parole caseloads are
classified under two risk levels of supervision standard and high (Department of Community
Supervision, n.d.). Individuals who have a sex crime conviction will be

Acupuncture Is A Therapeutic Technique Of Traditional...
Introduction
Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which involves the
implantation of needles to different depths at a great variety of points on the surface of the human
body , in order to stimulate deep lying nerve endings and regulate the circulation of qi and blood
round the body (Lu Needham, 2002:1). The history of acupuncture can be traced back to the Stone
Age according to archaeological discoveries and the earliest available records of its principles,
theories and applications can be found in the canonical TCM text Yellow Emperor s Classic of Internal
Medicine (Chang Zhang, 2012:37). For the following 2,500 years, acupuncture has been continuously
passed on alongside other components of TCM. Nowadays, acupuncture is widely practiced in the
East and become increasingly popular in the West. Many Western scholars attempt to separate
acupuncture from TCM paradigm and use modern scientific methods to reveal its underlying
mechanisms, but so far, such studies have not yielded sufficient evidence to support its scientificity .
Thus, it has been labelled as pseudoscience or quackery (Ulett Schwarts, 1982; Skrabanek, 1988;
Renckens, 2002; Ernst, 2010; Pandolfi Carreras, 2014; and Wikipedia ).
In this essay, I intend to discuss whether acupuncture is a scientific therapy. To do this, I will first
compare the different attitudes of scholars towards this issue before highlighting their fundamental
disagreements. Then,

How Is Henry A Selfless King
Shakespeare in Henry V shows Henry through his life as a king from just becoming king until right
after the battle of Agincourt. King Henry made many people who doubted him and his motives rethink
their initial thoughts. The way he handles issues and conflicts, he quickly makes them realize that he is
not a person to be messed with. Despite the reputation of his younger years, Henry V proves himself a
selfless king. As a young man, Henry had a reputation of being immature because he spent time with
the common people, but Henry disproves this by showing his selflessness for the good of his country.
When he becomes king he shows where his values lie and use his experiences from his earlier years to
better understand the common people. This results in him being able to relate to the common man and
better understand them, and later motivate them when needed. As soon as he came into power he was
recognized as more mature than he was expected to be. The bishops recognized that Henry was a
selfless leader: The courses of his youth promised it not. / The breath no sooner left his father s body
/But that his wildness, mortified in him, / Seemed to die too. (13). It was recognized that he gave up
all of his friendships with the plebeians so that he would follow the proper way to rule as king. His
intentions for becoming friends with the common people in the first place was also selfless, he wanted
to know more about them too, in turn, be a more effective leader, despite the

Funding Options
There are several funding options available since we have no working capital. We could go public and
offer shares to raise money to invest into the modifications, but the problem with this is that as a
business owner you will not get to keep 100% of the profits; you will be paying your shareholders a
dividend. Equity investors will require a percentage of ownership as well as the return on their
investment. This can also wind up being costly down the road. Another option is to acquire a loan, but
most lending institutes will only lend 60% 70% of the requested amount leaving the borrower having
to raise the other 30% 40% in equity. This may not be a bad deal if the equity investor does not

China s Water Shortage
Many people know that water is essential for human being and it is not only valuable for health and
life, but water is also important for industry and agriculture. Furthermore, use of water has a spiritual,
cultural and recreational dimension. However, water resources are not infinite. Wide and inefficient
use of water resources can lead to irreversible consequences, such as water shortage. This essay will
firstly discuss the problem of water shortage on examples of developed and developing countries and

According to McHarg et al. eds. (2010), in the last three decades world governments used to shed the
burden of capital investment, especially in sphere of water, through privatization in order to achieve
more efficiency of water supplies. This approach was developed deeply in European countries such as
England, which is already famous for it s the most highly regulated water companies. This method
also enables the company to concentrate on the service, management and funding of the service,
whereas the local government provides water services in developing countries and cannot afford
investments in large hydraulic infrastructure. Those are the Third World countries and the most of
them are Asian. However, I want to make a significant accent on one of the industrious world s
empires China. According to history of China, water consumption, growing population and demand
for higher living standards were increasing steadily since the 1950s, when industrial development of
the country started. In theory that could lead to new economic era and growth of the country, but in
practice that caused one of the most important environmental problems in China. First of all, the
pollution of water resources in this country goes deep into history in the 1970s. According to Wang

nowadays the government of China cannot tackle

Science Behind Black Holes
all of you probably know what a black hole is, its a black thing in space that is like a vacuum and
sucks up anything in its way, this is pretty much what most people think of when they think of a black
hole. but today I m going to talk about the actual science behind black holes, how are they made,
whats inside of them, and what would happen if you went inside of one?
How are black holes made?
in order to get into how black holes are mad you need to understand how stars work. stars are massive
collections of mainly hydrogen atoms, within a stars core, nuclear fusion causes hydrogen atoms get
crushed into helium atoms which releases a ton of energy, this energy comes in the form of radiation,
this radiation pushes against gravity which makes a nice balance between the two.
Balance is key
For the star to maintain this balance it must maintain fusion within the core, however with much larger
stars, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
so once your inside what happens? there are a lot of theories to what happens,I m going to talk about
to of them, one theory is the following, black holes curve space so much that once you get inside there
is only one way to go, kind of like a very tight alleyway, as you would go down the alley way, the
mass of the black hole would get so concentrated that gravity would become millions time stronger,
ripping your cells apart until you are no more then a stream of atoms. another theory states that when
you enter the black hole you would quickly be introduced into a massive firewall and be burned to
death instantly. as far as how long you would survive either of these options would depend on the size
of the black hole. a smaller black hole would kill you almost instantly while a massive black hole you
could probably survive in for a while. how long? nobody

The English East India Company
The Portuguese Working Under the English East India Company at Fort St. George Madras in the
Seventeenth Century
The success for the English East India Company making inroads in the Coromandel was due to the
Anglo Portuguese Truce (1630), which made possible for the foundation of an English settlement in
1640 at Madraspatnam. With the establishment of Fort St. George in 1640, slowly the migrants begin
to settle down with the promise of no tax for thirty years, the term of thirty years only no custom of
things to be taken, drank, or worn should be taken of any of the town dwellers. Among them the most
important community who came to settle were the Portuguese and their offspring known as mesticos.
They knew the Tamil language and all usual ways of expediting business in the region; they were ideal
foremen, as soldiers, as translators, as brokers, in fact as intermediaries for all the range of activities
which are useful in establishing and operating a fortified trading post in the midst of a strange
landscape.
The Portuguese that colonized Coromandel as early as in 1518 were not part of the administrative
system of Goa, though by the 1620s the resident fear of the Dutch and English made them closer ties
with the viceroyalty in the hope that it will be able to protect them. But the Estado da India watched
helplessly when the Dutch started capturing their own ships, which greatly affected their prosperity.
Even before the final annexation of Portuguese overseas empire,

Tutankhamun Burial
Ancient Egypt revolved around the belief that one was reborn after death and would be guaranteed
eternal life if the body was preserved and buried properly. Tutankhamun became a pharaoh of Egypt at
the age of nine during the 18th Dynasty. His rain lasted approximately 10 years when he died
unexpectedly and consequently his tomb and burial was rushed leaving him with a much smaller and
less impressive tomb that was common for 18th dynasty tombs. Tutankhamun s tomb was discovered
still sealed by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings. Evidently, as to
the undersized scale of the tomb it was hardly touched by grave robbers as every other tomb had been,

These paintings, through limited, show evidence that Tutankhamun s funeral preparations comply with
Osirin burial customs. The paintings depict scenes of Tutankhamun s preparation and voyage to the
afterworld. The northern wall of the burial room portray scenes from the Opening of the mouth
ceremony and Tutankhamun, followed by his Ka, being greeted by Osiris. The Opening of the mouth
ceremony was perfumed by Ay, Tutankhamun s successor as he had no heirs to the throne, and it
allowed the deceased to be reborn again in the afterlife and keep all his senses. Tutankhamun is
greeted by the sky goddess Nut who is a symbol of resurrection, representing the dead pharaoh being
reborn into the afterlife. A scarab beetles is displayed above a solar boat on the wast wall symbolising
new life and the twelve baboon deities represent the hours of the night the pharaoh must travel to be
reborn. On the southern wall of the burial room Tutankhamun is pictured being welcomed to the
afterlife by Isis, Horus and Anubis. Both Horus and Anubis are holding Ankhs which convey
Tutankhamun s eternal life in the afterworld. Each wall depicts a different scenes with the similar
theme of resurrection, new life and eternal life, all concepts associated with Osirian funerary

Unfavorable Budget Variances
The plastic and cedar direct materials both had unfavorable flexible budget variances. It is unfavorable
because they under budgeted the cost of the direct materials they were going to purchase. This could
have been caused by a sudden increase in the cost of buying the materials, or they switched suppliers
and had to pay more. The cedar also had an unfavorable price and efficiency variance, while the
plastic had an unfavorable efficiency variance. In order to improve this, they need to try to stay
consistent with their suppliers so that there is less of a variance. They also need to watch market trends
more to see whether people are wanting to buy bird houses, because if they are, then they should
budget a higher number of units sold, or vice versa. The company also needs to be more efficient on
how they use their materials. For example, the workers need to not use too much or too little cedar

quality bird houses that needed to be rebuilt, which would have made them throw the old one out.
Along with this, the efficiency variance was also unfavorable. This proves that the workers are not

the managers should talk with the employees about needing to speed up the process of making the bird

Self Government In Canada
Self government is the cornerstone of the Inuit policy goals in the Nunavut region; while self
government is an important goal, the idea is intricately linked to other goals such as land claims
settlements, cultural preservation, and economic development, goals which the people of Nunavut are
finding very hard to meet (Nowland Card, 41). Indigenous people were self governed long before
Europeans arrived in Canada, but in 1876, the Indian Act came into effect, dismantling traditional
governance systems and Indigenous peoples lives (Bc Treaty Commission). Today, the Federal
government recognizes that Indigenous people have an inherent, constitutionally protected right to self
government; a right to manage their own affairs (Bc Treaty Commission). ... Show more content on

But the model of self government offered by the Canadian government leaves the people of Nunavut
financially at the mercy of the Government and thus is impractical and doomed to fail. The
Government still owns a huge amount of the land and makes the final decisions on important issues.
There is still no sovereignty for Indigenous people as their lives are still partly dictated by the Federal
Government. Their lack of any revenue source leads to heavy reliance on the Federal Government
making this method highly unsustainable. Thus, the Indigenous people surrendered their rights for a
failed cause, but one that could potentially see a revival. With the recent devolution plans in Canada
between the Federal Government, the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated,
the company in charge of setting out the process of the transfer of land from the Crown to the Nunavut

Attachment theory is the work of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth joined together. Ainsworth
worked with Bowlby, extending his ideas by looking at different types of atatchments as well as
considering issues such as sensitive parenting . Bowlby proposed the theory of attachment in a series
of publications from the 1940 to the 1980s. Attachment theory is rooted in the ethological notion that a
newborn child is biologically programmed to seek proximity with caregivers, and this proximity
seeking behavior is naturally selected
Bowlby believed that attachment was innate and that it had evolved in order to protect the babies from
any danger, as a type of adaptive behavior therefore it helps survival. He said that attachment was a

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Short Story
The Dying Flames of Happiness
Steel and flint continue to strike against each other, over and over. As each strike becomes harder, the
showers of sparks grow larger. Each one tries to find a foothold in the tinder to create the blessed
warmth of fire to drive away the bitter cold. Far of, a wildfire blazes, a glimpse of what might be.
After what seems like an eternity passes, the flint and steel are finally able to admire the blazing
warmth of their handiwork. It is not to last, as soon the wind that fuels the forest s blaze kills the fire,
and the creators along with it. As the fire dies, thus does the happiness brought of by years of hard

stories The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and the Interchapters. Their happiness is only
achieved through their hard work in overcoming fear, frustration, and lavish lifestyles, but are only
experience that happiness for a short time.
To start, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber is short indeed as the time the title character
spends striking against his fears only amounts to about an hour of happiness. Laying in bed after a
long day, Macomber reflects on revealing his cowardice everyone. His fear not only of the hunt, but
also of embarrassing himself weighs like bricks down on him as he thinks, The fear was still there like

The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay
Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God
created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first,
they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that
women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over
women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and
released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818.
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no
attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of
males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel,
The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given
the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to
mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power.
In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked
out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would grow back so that the suffering would
never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is Victor Frankenstein.

children are being denied their childhood and instead are given a violent and gruesome role to play in

are not simply used as soldiers in conflict but also do many other duties, such as being; messengers,
guards, cooks, mechanics, porters, spies, labors, human shields, human minesweepers, decoys,

The Spiritual Practice Of The Labyrinth
Since I was a child I was told to read the Bible, pray, and repeat. Eventually, these few spiritual
practices became empty rituals to me for a time. In the duration of this class thus far, I ve had the
chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I should practice them, and then put them into
practice with a right heart. I ve also had the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual
practices. One in particular interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practice of the
Labyrinth.
There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the Labyrinth was a
formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience with the discipline before the class.
However, I decided to try it because I might not have had the chance to practice it again, unless I first

wanted to study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it even more. A prayer

Unbiasing Mediation Attorneys In Court Cases

Mediating a case keeps the clients in control of the outcome, going before a judge leaves the final
decision out of a person s control. People can also spend more money going into litigation, and the

Confucianism And The Conflicts Of The Han Dynasty Of...
The Han Dynasty of Ancient China was one of the most prominent and long lasting societies of the
time. However, they were not untouched by the ravages of the world, and despite their Confucius
roots, there was a war to be fought. The Salt and Iron debate is an example of how the Confucianism
of the time affected the strategy of the war. Should the government stick to their principles, or protect
their empire? When is the time to say enough is enough ?
In order to understand the debate, we must understand those who are arguing. The Scholars spent
years studying the word and policy of Confucius, then toured China spreading his ideas to every

They asked why their people should have to suffer if it wasn t necessary. The bureaucrats were also
beginning to consider the possibility of fighting back, and to do so they would need soldier and costly

and the only way to keep the country floating was through the monopolies. The bureaucrats try
explaining this to the Scholars, but are vehemently argued against because the trade is steeped in
greed.
In my opinion, the bureaucrats make a stronger case for the continuation of the Salt and Iron
monopolies. There must be an army, and walls to protect the country. If they aren t going to fight, like

Apocalyptic Survivors In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Apocalyptic Survivors
Each of the sacred texts of Christianity, Greek Polytheism, Ancient Macedonian Religion, and
Judaism outlines an apocalypse myth which illustrates a near end of the world, and in each myth, the
gods or God select survivors. Although each religion is unique, there are some stark similarities
among the myths including the methods used to attack the world and the way the survivors rescue
themselves and others. Some religious texts portray one person saving people who will repopulate the
Earth, but others describe a group of people or even a small population withstanding the apocalypse.
Investigating several religious texts reveals that even though some apocalyptic trends remain constant
throughout each belief, the selection and utilization of humans by the higher power changes slightly
between each myth. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains an apocalyptic myth where a god indirectly
chooses a survivor to rescue the human race, and he receives a blessing from the gods in return for his
bravery and success. In the epic about ancient Mesopotamian religion, Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh
the story of how he became immortal after surviving the gods downpour. Utnapishtim lived on the
banks of the Euphrates in a town called Shuruppak when the great gods decided to send down the
Deluge. Each of the gods swore on this plan, and chose to keep it secret. However, one god named Ea
yelled his swear at a wall: Abandon wealth and seek survival! Spurn property, save life!

To Kill A Mockingbird Hypocrisy Analysis
José Emilio Pacheco says We are all hypocrites. We cannot see ourselves or judge ourselves the way
we see and judge others. Hypocrisy is demonstrated and observed on an everyday basis in our society,
and even in the rural town of Maycomb in the 1930s it is evident as well. In To Kill a Mockingbird,
two children by the names of Scout and Jem start to see hypocrisy more and more frequently because
of the events that happen to unfold. This includes , including an african american young man accused
of something he did not do. This amazing novel by Harper Lee shows that hypocrisy is closely linked
to privilege, and a dominating opinion about others. The characters Miss Gates and Mrs. Merriweather
are great examples of hypocrisy and Atticus is a great counterexample, showing an effort of being
larger than others in Maycomb. Miss Gates demonstrates hypocrisy in the novel. It is shown when she
is speaking to Scout s class. She is teaching about Hitler, speaking about how he does not treat
everybody equally. She expresses her beliefs against prejudice and the persecution of those who aren t
like her. This is hypocritical because she does not treat everybody equally in her own town, and yet
she is teaching the opposite of her actions. Miss Gates says, Over here we don t believe in persecuting
anybody. Persecution comes from people who are prejudice. (Lee 281) This shows what Miss Gates is
teaching to her students and it makes Scout confused because she knows that Miss Gates is

Long Term Effects Of Malathion
Malathion is an insecticide used on crops, residential areas, pet flea and tick collars and even in lice
shampoo to control insects. In the right doses it s generally harmless; however, being a toxin is never
risk free. There are many possible health issues that exposure can bring. Respiratory problems and
nervous system issues are a few serious ones. More basic effects can be irritation, nausea and rashes.
High amounts of malathion can have some serious long term effects. The EPA s reference dose of this
chemical for the general population is .14mg/kg/day. This is the safest dose we can be exposed to
while also still being effective. To pose any immediate danger, the levels of malathion in the air would
have to be 250mg/m. There are different regulations in place for the use of malathion. On a farm, for
example, workers must wait at least 12 hours after application to be able to enter a field. If it s a hand

Whiteness as a Field of Study
Captain Ahab s eulogy of whiteness shows that the word white implies more than a chromatic
description. White is an untenable perfection that has haunted the American psyche since colonial
times. The idea of white spiritual superiority can only be enforced by a terrorist politico legal system,
based on brutalizing the non whites and creating a national fantasy. A national fantasy defined by
Lauren Berlant as the means to designate how national culture becomes local through the images,
narratives, monuments, and sites that circulate through personal/collective consciousness. As Captain
Ahab disregards all his craft s safety rules on his mad search of the white whale, the American politico

It is a very new field with no journals, professional association, or annual conference. Whiteness itself
is a historically constructed expression of the full fledged member of society or citizen. The parallel
and evolving concepts of whiteness and citizenship are analyzed by the first scholars on the field, such
as Richard Dyer, Vron Ware, David Roediger, and Ruth Frankenberg.
Benefits of Whiteness
One of the most important themes on whiteness studies is the benefits of being white, such as the
privilege and power associated with being identified as white. In immigration and legal history the
main benefit is citizenship. In order to assert one s right to citizenship, it meant proving that one was
white. For the Irish, Italians, Jews, and others, becoming white was something that had to be earned.
Citizenship gave full political rights, and it was proof of whiteness. Under a strong influence of the
main arguments of The Rise and Fall of the White Republic, Roegiger s book The Wages of Whiteness
reveals that whiteness has never benefited all whites equally, but some latter scholars dispute that
many whites had no benefits at all. The author s aim in this text is to explain the role of race in the
development of organized labor, and to give whiteness its rightful place in that story. The white
workers got a reward for their race loyalty with both financial and broader benefits. Their freedom

My Group Presentation Was Over Myasthenia Gravis
My group presentation was over myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular auto
immune disease that is characterized by fatigable weakness in the skeletal muscles. This occurs at the
neuromuscular junction, in which acetylcholine that is being released by the pre synaptic neuron
attaches to receptors at the post synaptic neuron in order to generate a muscle contraction. Basically
the body produces antibodies that block, alter, or destroy these receptors thus halting motor neurons
from signaling the muscles to contract. It is currently unknown why the body makes these antibodies.
There are a multitude of ways of treating MG these include anticholinesterase, steroid, and
immunosuppressant medicines. In my paper, I will focus on the most long term solution of
thymectomy by first giving an overview of characteristics of the surgery, then contrasting open
thymectomy (trans sternal and trans cervical) and video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and finally
focusing on the overall effectiveness of the surgery. First we must define the term thymectomy, why it
is needed, who should receive it, and the goals of the surgery. A thymectomy in layman s terms is the
surgical removal of the thymus gland. The thymus plays a major role in immune defense for the
human body. As already stated MG is an autoimmune disease in which the body makes antibodies that

The Correlation Between Free Time Usage And Personality...
Product Design
Design
Components. Next year, I plan to investigate the correlation between free time usage and personality
traits. The product will include a survey, which will assess one s recreational activities (such as
watching television, playing video games, reading novels, or posting on social media) as well as one s
personality traits under the Big Five dimensions. In addition to the survey, which will be completed by
Commonwealth Governor School students (and, if feasible, students outside of the program in high
school), I will analyze the data and determine the correlation through the use of previously designed
tests.
Format. The format of the survey will be multiple choice, and I will utilize the International
Personality Item ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the IPIP materials are free of cost.
Connections
Research. Throughout the year, I researched the origin and stability of personality traits. With this
research came an investigation into the models of personality traits, which guide research in the area
of personality psychology. The Big Five, also known as the Five Factor Model (FFM), provides the
most accurate representation of one s personality traits. Thus, in using a Big Five test in my survey,
the product directly connects to my research. Expertise. The product demonstrates my expertise in the
area because it will require a broad knowledge of the personality dimensions of the Big Five. It will
also require an understanding of the wide influence of personality, which provides the basis for the
product. By hypothesizing that personality will influence one s free time usage, I am expressing and
expanding my knowledge in the area. Excellence. The product will demonstrate excellence through
the use of previously tested survey items (promoting reliability and validity) and through the
application of my knowledge in the subject area (promoting more efficient analyses of the results to
describe the correlation).
Reflection and Planning Further research. In order to complete the product, I will need to research the
IPIP and learn more about the test items and scales the organization offers .I will also research the
questions needed to analyze the usage of free time.

Canaanite Woman
JESUS AND A CANAANITE WOMAN
The Bible told us that a Canaanite woman from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon came to Jesus for the
healing of her daughter. The daughter of these Canaanite woman was being tormented by demons and
she cried to Jesus to heal her daughter. These Canaanite woman was not a Hebrew Jew, but she was a
gentile, an outsider, because Jesus told her I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel,
meaning that She was not an Israelite Hebrew Jew. First, these Canaanite woman recognized that
Jesus is Lord, she said have mercy on me, O Lord, then secondly she addressed Him by His Messianic
title as the son of David, and thirdly she boldly and persistently cried out to Jesus to save her daughter
from a demonic bondage

The Three-Offensive Boxing Styles
The Three Offensive Boxing Styles:
Many of us are familiar with boxing. Some people may hate it, while others may love it. Regardless of
what your prospective is of this particular sport, a large majority of people have been influenced by it
in one way or another if you have ever been a witness or involved in a simple fisticuffs. So, with that
said, this essay is set to breakdown the three different styles of boxing.
Pure Boxer / Counterpuncher: These fighters embody the whole sweet science of boxing. They use
their intellect in the ring to maintain a safe distance between themselves and their opponents, and they
pick their spots to attack with precision. They may lack punching power although this may not always
be the case, or in some

Taking a look at Tourette Syndrome
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a disorder of the brain that is observed in people who have involuntary
movements or vocalizations called tics. Named after Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette who first
discovered this disorder, this French neurologist described a noblewoman who exhibited these
symptoms in 1885. These tics could range from repetitive movements to inappropriate vocalizations.
Early symptoms of Tourette syndrome occur in children at around 3 and 9 years and occur in equal
percentages in all ethnic groups. However, TS occurs more often in males than females with over
200,000 Americans having severe TS. The reason for this is because the syndrome is a dominant trait
genetically passed down on the X chromosome. Since males have only one X chromosome, they are
more likely to have it than females, specifically three times more likely. Even though TS is chronic,
most people who are diagnosed early can live a more improved lifestyle for the rest of their lives. The
first reported case of Tourette syndrome in history was in 1825, when Jean Gaspard Itard wrote about
French noblewoman Marquise de Dampierre in one of his journals. In one of his entries, he
documented a time when she uttered a lot of swear words in public, to the shock of all her friends and
family. After his writings, Madam Dampierre was rediscovered by Dr. George Gilles de la Tourette in
1885. This French neurologist described similar patients like the Madam Dampierre. His patients all
twitched wildly.

Rhetorical Analysis On Want It All
Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an extremely
interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National Basketball
Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league and get them
excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the athletic wear world,
Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they were just as good if not
better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor for athletic wear and sporting
goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by the name of Donte Grand and is
an extremely skilled basketball player. He grows up in the inner city and does not come from a lot, but
he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you come from, if you want it all, you are
going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial, he transitions from his front yard to the
local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and eventually pro teams where he is playing in the
NBA Finals which is the championship with big time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant
and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos and pathos to help convey its message. The first
rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the appeal to pathos in the advertisement. The first
thing you notice in the advertisement is the almost terrible conditions of the buildings and streets

Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play
With the title alone, it is easy to assume that Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play would not be a typical
play. Unlike other performances, Mr. Burns is not a simple narrative. Quite literally, it is a play within
a play. The narrative lacks structure due to how it stands as a social commentary on the importance of
entertainment to society. Mr. Burns began after what seems to be a traumatic event that has affected
everyone s way of life. From what we see as our survivors huddled around a campfire in the woods.
They recount a normalcy of how life used to be, an episode of The Simpsons. Throughout the recounts
on what happened in the episode Cape Feare , the play introduces a new character which gives
exposition to the current landscape of the United States. As the play continues into its second and third
act, there is a large shift on the scenery, lighting, etc. as the cast begins to recreate the episode of The
Simpsons which they discuss in the previous act. While it is easy to get lost on why everything is
happening, why they are performing, it comes to the central conflict of reclaiming normalcy of the
world which has past, an episode of television. As the performance goes on, the costume design
represents where our characters are at in their timeline. While, in the first act, the characters are
dressed in stereotypical post apocalyptic attire, it does vary in from what we are presented in the last
two acts. Around the campfire, the characters are dressed in

Tachycardi Exploring Heart Rate
Heart rate, also known as pulse, is the number of times a person s heart beats per minute. A normal
heart rate depends on the individual, age, body size, heart conditions, whether the person is sitting or
moving, medication use and even air temperature. Even emotions can have an impact on heart rate.
For example, getting excited or scared can increase the heart rate. But most importantly, getting fitter
lowers the heart rate, by making heart muscles work more efficiently.
Your pulse is the way doctors check for certain dieases. If you have a high pulse you are in risk of
Tachycardia, which means it is too fast. A heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute (BPM) in
adults is called tachycardia. What s too fast for you may depend on your age

Utilization of Biodegradable Kitchen Wastes into Organic Fertilizer Using Earthworms * Abstract One of the effective means to at least lessen the occurrence of our present garbage disposal problem is through the use of methods that are non toxic, less expensive, less harmful, and yet equally effective. This project aims to provide for a natural and effective way of disposing garbage. During the experiment, kitchen wastes were collected. The materials were shredded and placed in garbage bags with small holes. The temperature inside the bags was allowed to lower. Three set ups were prepared and were covered with plastic. Temperature build up inside the bags due to partial decomposition was measured and allowed to lower down for one month until three consecutive declining of temperature were achieved. Three set ups measuring 15 x 8 inches were prepared and were covered with plastic. One box contained pure carabao manure, the other box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent processed kitchen wastes and the last box contained pure processed kitchen waste. About one hundred pieces of Lumbricus terrestris were placed in each set up. The boxes were placed in a lighted area to prevent the worms from escaping Since worms are known to be light sensitive. The set ups were checked daily and watered to keep moisture. Upon consumption of the contents of the boxes, as evidenced by the appearance of brown granular structures, the set ups were spread on newspapers under the sunlight. • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the many during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men and women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France. Under rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the coastline, but not without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reagan was made to commemorate those who fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their lives during those hard days of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those who gave and risked their lives during the invasion of Normandy. Logos is can be seen frequently in this speech. Reagan spoke with passion and sorrow. But he showed an appreciation and respect for those who fought. He uses the word we very often, which unites the people and shows union. In his speech he uses the word we 19 times to show the bond between us as a people, and as a nation. He uses rhetorical questions asking why they served and fought till their last breath. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with love and loyalty for their families and their country. Sodic soils develops on glacial deposits and till of saline shales (Heck and Mermut, 1992). The presence of a fluctuating water table, landscape position, topography, parent material permeability elevate the sodicity on glacial deposits (Wilding et al., 1963; Lewis and drew, 1973; Munn and Boehm, 1983; Seelig et al., 190; Richardson et al, 1992). The total area of North Dakota in the United States is about 18.4 million hectares and of these 1.9 million hectare area are considered as sodic and distributed across several parent materials (Web Soil Survey, 2013). Sodic soils are characterized by high sodium (Na) concentration in cation exchange complex. Which is about greater than 15% and defined as the soil with high sodium as compared to calcium and magnesium (Salcon, 1997, Soil Taxonomy, 1999). Sodic soil is one of the problematic soils which weaken the soil structure of the soils (Rengasamy and walters, 1994). So it is important to study these soil in detail by physical, chemical and micro morphological method and in relation to environment. The typical morphological or physical features of the area with sodic soils were study in the field. The vertical section from the surface were dig up to the parent material and designate them into different horizon on the basis of soils color, texture, structure etc. Sodic soils develop a dense prismatic or columnar structure below the ... • 5. Ancient Greece Festivals In Ancient Greece, women were allowed to take part in nearly all religious festivals, and there were even some restricted to only women. Thesmophoria, a great festival, is of significance as it is a festival which celebrates a fertility rite for Demeter. Married noblewomen are the only people who can observe and celebrate this festival. The basis of this celebration was women preforming rites and celebrating on Demeter s hilltop sanctuary for three days. Sadly, there is little evidence of specific rituals, there is evidence that pigs were sacrificed and buried, and the remains of the pigs sacrificed from the previous year were then offered to the goddess. In general, most festivals in Ancient Greece were to praise and honour Demeter, a selected few honoured other goddesses. Other festivals such as, Brauronia and Arrheporia are also included, which are rites of passage in which girls became women. The festivals that women were allowed to partake, or led, were generally about a girl s development into adulthood, or celebrating their womanhood. The Cult of Athena was an integral part of society on Ancient Greece. In addition to this, women played a vital role in the cult. Athena as a priesthood figure was of great importance, and she used her power to influence political positions. Sometimes they stay with you for a lifetime. One thing is certain; fear is almost inevitable. One of my biggest fears is drowning. When I go swimming I have to be able to touch something or else I get panic attacks. This fear started when I was about seven. My friend and I decided to take the swimming test so we could jump off the diving board. We wanted to be just like our friends who had taken the test. In Harry Potter, each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy, imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately resulted in the downfall of the dynasty. This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the governments control over the country weakened. Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially corruption of the dynasty and its officials. Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain . Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money, which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project. Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another factor influencing the economic decline was natural disasters. Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether they are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body cavities, and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks down to two subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges, who most members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce. Eumetazoa separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that branches off from Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further divides among protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes differentiate by the embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions, known as cleavage, and so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two dissimilar types of development. Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two different classes, one class being Spiralian protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic development. As this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem. With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him they were just excited knowing he could be the one. Journal of Physical Therapy Science, 26(6), 889 893. Performance of the ADIM with forward steps had a positive influence on abdominal thickness and kinematics of hip and pelvis joints. The ADIM, a neuromuscular control exercise, increases function of the TrA and internal oblique (IO) to create improved trunk stability. During neutral standing, participants were asked to stand quietly and maintain gaze at a marker set in front of them. For forward step without ADIM, each participant was first asked to walk around comfortably to sense his or her normal step length. After assessing their normal step length, they were asked to take a forward step that was comparable. Last, the proper performance of the ADIM was practiced. Subjects were instructed to take in a deep breath, draw their belly button up and in towards the spine as they exhale and to hold this position. Confirmation of the proper performance of the ADIM was measured using ultrasound. Skin markers were placed on the visualized fascial planes for reproducibility. Participants performed each of the three postures and data was collected. The results found EO thickness increased in forward (right) step (p 0.05). In conclusion, during forward steps of gait with ADIM, there was increased bilateral IO and TrA thickness and increased hip extension. Increased hip extension during forward step with ADIM may have been caused by the increased stability provided by IO and TrA, causing motion restriction at the spine and pelvis, or there was increased gluteus maximus activation. Also, the ADIM potentially caused bilateral activation of the IO and TrA and decreased contralateral pelvic rotation during forward steps with ADIM. Only in the comparatively rare cases when there is some dispute among relatives, such as in the Wendland case in California, the earlier Hugh Finn case in Virginia, and the Schindler Schiavo case now in Florida, do these cases reach public attention, normally in the context of lawsuits. It should come as no surprise that, with important exceptions, the prevailing view in the judiciary, as in the medical profession, is receptive to the quality of life ethic. Effective supervision requires establishing different levels of supervision in order to know which offenders need closer supervision from those who require less supervision (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Generally, the supervision of offenders is categorized into three or four levels: maximum, medium and minimum or maximum, high, standard, and administrative (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The administrative level is for probationers or parolees who have committed minor offenses, satisfied financial responsibilities, and been in compliance for two years (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Probationers and parolees on the administrative level do not require a personal visit or personal contact with the officer (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Individuals on the administrative level are required to call in and leave a voicemail or mail in a residence verification and employment document (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). A caseload is the number of individuals that one probation or parole officer is responsible for and can supervise effectively (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The number of people that one officer can supervise varies from state to state (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Introduction Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which involves the implantation of needles to different depths at a great variety of points on the surface of the human body , in order to stimulate deep lying nerve endings and regulate the circulation of qi and blood round the body (Lu Needham, 2002:1). The history of acupuncture can be traced back to the Stone Age according to archaeological discoveries and the earliest available records of its principles, theories and applications can be found in the canonical TCM text Yellow Emperor s Classic of Internal Medicine (Chang Zhang, 2012:37). For the following 2,500 years, acupuncture has been continuously passed on alongside other components of TCM. Nowadays, acupuncture is widely practiced in the East and become increasingly popular in the West. Many Western scholars attempt to separate acupuncture from TCM paradigm and use modern scientific methods to reveal its underlying mechanisms, but so far, such studies have not yielded sufficient evidence to support its scientificity . Thus, it has been labelled as pseudoscience or quackery (Ulett Schwarts, 1982; Skrabanek, 1988; Renckens, 2002; Ernst, 2010; Pandolfi Carreras, 2014; and Wikipedia ). King Henry made many people who doubted him and his motives rethink their initial thoughts. The way he handles issues and conflicts, he quickly makes them realize that he is not a person to be messed with. Despite the reputation of his younger years, Henry V proves himself a selfless king. As a young man, Henry had a reputation of being immature because he spent time with the common people, but Henry disproves this by showing his selflessness for the good of his country. When he becomes king he shows where his values lie and use his experiences from his earlier years to better understand the common people. This results in him being able to relate to the common man and better understand them, and later motivate them when needed. As soon as he came into power he was recognized as more mature than he was expected to be. The bishops recognized that Henry was a selfless leader: The courses of his youth promised it not. / The breath no sooner left his father s body /But that his wildness, mortified in him, / Seemed to die too. Furthermore, use of water has a spiritual, cultural and recreational dimension. However, water resources are not infinite. Wide and inefficient use of water resources can lead to irreversible consequences, such as water shortage. This essay will firstly discuss the problem of water shortage on examples of developed and developing countries and include the diversification of the same issue in the different parts of the world. According to McHarg et al. eds. (2010), in the last three decades world governments used to shed the burden of capital investment, especially in sphere of water, through privatization in order to achieve more efficiency of water supplies. This approach was developed deeply in European countries such as England, which is already famous for it s the most highly regulated water companies. This method also enables the company to concentrate on the service, management and funding of the service, whereas the local government provides water services in developing countries and cannot afford investments in large hydraulic infrastructure. Those are the Third World countries and the most of them are Asian. However, I want to make a significant accent on one of the industrious world s empires China. According to history of China, water consumption, growing population and demand for higher living standards were increasing steadily since the 1950s, when industrial development of the country started. In theory that could lead to new economic era and growth of the country, but in practice that caused one of the most important environmental problems in China. First of all, the pollution of water resources in this country goes deep into history in the 1970s. Science Behind Black Holes all of you probably know what a black hole is, its a black thing in space that is like a vacuum and sucks up anything in its way, this is pretty much what most people think of when they think of a black hole. but today I m going to talk about the actual science behind black holes, how are they made, whats inside of them, and what would happen if you went inside of one? How are black holes made? in order to get into how black holes are mad you need to understand how stars work. stars are massive collections of mainly hydrogen atoms, within a stars core, nuclear fusion causes hydrogen atoms get crushed into helium atoms which releases a ton of energy, this energy comes in the form of radiation, this radiation pushes against gravity which makes a nice balance between the two. Balance is key For the star to maintain this balance it must maintain fusion within the core, however with much larger stars, the ... The English East India Company The Portuguese Working Under the English East India Company at Fort St. George Madras in the Seventeenth Century The success for the English East India Company making inroads in the Coromandel was due to the Anglo Portuguese Truce (1630), which made possible for the foundation of an English settlement in 1640 at Madraspatnam. With the establishment of Fort St. George in 1640, slowly the migrants begin to settle down with the promise of no tax for thirty years, the term of thirty years only no custom of things to be taken, drank, or worn should be taken of any of the town dwellers. Among them the most important community who came to settle were the Portuguese and their offspring known as mesticos. They knew the Tamil language and all usual ways of expediting business in the region; they were ideal foremen, as soldiers, as translators, as brokers, in fact as intermediaries for all the range of activities which are useful in establishing and operating a fortified trading post in the midst of a strange landscape. The Portuguese that colonized Coromandel as early as in 1518 were not part of the administrative system of Goa, though by the 1620s the resident fear of the Dutch and English made them closer ties with the viceroyalty in the hope that it will be able to protect them. But the Estado da India watched helplessly when the Dutch started capturing their own ships, which greatly affected their prosperity. It is unfavorable because they under budgeted the cost of the direct materials they were going to purchase. This could have been caused by a sudden increase in the cost of buying the materials, or they switched suppliers and had to pay more. The cedar also had an unfavorable price and efficiency variance, while the plastic had an unfavorable efficiency variance. In order to improve this, they need to try to stay consistent with their suppliers so that there is less of a variance. Indigenous people were self governed long before Europeans arrived in Canada, but in 1876, the Indian Act came into effect, dismantling traditional governance systems and Indigenous peoples lives (Bc Treaty Commission). • 31. The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first, they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel, The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power. Apocalyptic Survivors In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Apocalyptic Survivors Each of the sacred texts of Christianity, Greek Polytheism, Ancient Macedonian Religion, and Judaism outlines an apocalypse myth which illustrates a near end of the world, and in each myth, the gods or God select survivors. Although each religion is unique, there are some stark similarities among the myths including the methods used to attack the world and the way the survivors rescue themselves and others. Some religious texts portray one person saving people who will repopulate the Earth, but others describe a group of people or even a small population withstanding the apocalypse. Investigating several religious texts reveals that even though some apocalyptic trends remain constant throughout each belief, the selection and utilization of humans by the higher power changes slightly between each myth. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains an apocalyptic myth where a god indirectly chooses a survivor to rescue the human race, and he receives a blessing from the gods in return for his bravery and success. In To Kill a Mockingbird, two children by the names of Scout and Jem start to see hypocrisy more and more frequently because of the events that happen to unfold. Benefits of Whiteness One of the most important themes on whiteness studies is the benefits of being white, such as the privilege and power associated with being identified as white. In immigration and legal history the main benefit is citizenship. In order to assert one s right to citizenship, it meant proving that one was white. For the Irish, Italians, Jews, and others, becoming white was something that had to be earned. Citizenship gave full political rights, and it was proof of whiteness. • 43. The Correlation Between Free Time Usage And Personality... Product Design Design Components. Next year, I plan to investigate the correlation between free time usage and personality traits. The product will include a survey, which will assess one s recreational activities (such as watching television, playing video games, reading novels, or posting on social media) as well as one s personality traits under the Big Five dimensions. In addition to the survey, which will be completed by Commonwealth Governor School students (and, if feasible, students outside of the program in high school), I will analyze the data and determine the correlation through the use of previously designed tests. Format. The format of the survey will be multiple choice, and I will utilize the International Personality Item ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the IPIP materials are free of cost. Connections Research. Throughout the year, I researched the origin and stability of personality traits. With this research came an investigation into the models of personality traits, which guide research in the area of personality psychology. The Big Five, also known as the Five Factor Model (FFM), provides the most accurate representation of one s personality traits. Thus, in using a Big Five test in my survey, the product directly connects to my research. Expertise. The product demonstrates my expertise in the area because it will require a broad knowledge of the personality dimensions of the Big Five. It will also require an understanding of the wide influence of personality, which provides the basis for the product. By hypothesizing that personality will influence one s free time usage, I am expressing and expanding my knowledge in the area. Excellence. The product will demonstrate excellence through the use of previously tested survey items (promoting reliability and validity) and through the application of my knowledge in the subject area (promoting more efficient analyses of the results to describe the correlation). Reflection and Planning Further research. In order to complete the product, I will need to research the IPIP and learn more about the test items and scales the organization offers .I will also research the questions needed to analyze the usage of free time. ... • 46. Taking a look at Tourette Syndrome Tourette syndrome (TS) is a disorder of the brain that is observed in people who have involuntary movements or vocalizations called tics. Named after Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette who first discovered this disorder, this French neurologist described a noblewoman who exhibited these symptoms in 1885. These tics could range from repetitive movements to inappropriate vocalizations. Early symptoms of Tourette syndrome occur in children at around 3 and 9 years and occur in equal percentages in all ethnic groups. However, TS occurs more often in males than females with over 200,000 Americans having severe TS. The reason for this is because the syndrome is a dominant trait genetically passed down on the X chromosome. Since males have only one X chromosome, they are more likely to have it than females, specifically three times more likely. Even though TS is chronic, most people who are diagnosed early can live a more improved lifestyle for the rest of their lives. The first reported case of Tourette syndrome in history was in 1825, when Jean Gaspard Itard wrote about French noblewoman Marquise de Dampierre in one of his journals. In one of his entries, he documented a time when she uttered a lot of swear words in public, to the shock of all her friends and family. After his writings, Madam Dampierre was rediscovered by Dr. George Gilles de la Tourette in 1885. This French neurologist described similar patients like the Madam Dampierre. His patients all twitched wildly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Rhetorical Analysis On Want It All Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an extremely interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league and get them excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the athletic wear world, Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they were just as good if not better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor for athletic wear and sporting goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by the name of Donte Grand and is an extremely skilled basketball player. He grows up in the inner city and does not come from a lot, but he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you come from, if you want it all, you are going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial, he transitions from his front yard to the local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and eventually pro teams where he is playing in the NBA Finals which is the championship with big time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos and pathos to help convey its message. The first rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the appeal to pathos in the advertisement. The first thing you notice in the advertisement is the almost terrible conditions of the buildings and streets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play With the title alone, it is easy to assume that Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play would not be a typical play. Unlike other performances, Mr. Burns is not a simple narrative. Quite literally, it is a play within a play. The narrative lacks structure due to how it stands as a social commentary on the importance of entertainment to society. Mr. Burns began after what seems to be a traumatic event that has affected everyone s way of life. From what we see as our survivors huddled around a campfire in the woods. They recount a normalcy of how life used to be, an episode of The Simpsons. Throughout the recounts on what happened in the episode Cape Feare , the play introduces a new character which gives exposition to the current landscape of the United States. As the play continues into its second and third act, there is a large shift on the scenery, lighting, etc. as the cast begins to recreate the episode of The Simpsons which they discuss in the previous act. While it is easy to get lost on why everything is happening, why they are performing, it comes to the central conflict of reclaiming normalcy of the world which has past, an episode of television. As the performance goes on, the costume design represents where our characters are at in their timeline. While, in the first act, the characters are dressed in stereotypical post apocalyptic attire, it does vary in from what we are presented in the last two acts. Around the campfire, the characters are dressed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Tachycardi Exploring Heart Rate Heart rate, also known as pulse, is the number of times a person s heart beats per minute. A normal heart rate depends on the individual, age, body size, heart conditions, whether the person is sitting or moving, medication use and even air temperature. Even emotions can have an impact on heart rate. For example, getting excited or scared can increase the heart rate. But most importantly, getting fitter lowers the heart rate, by making heart muscles work more efficiently. Your pulse is the way doctors check for certain dieases. If you have a high pulse you are in risk of Tachycardia, which means it is too fast. A heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute (BPM) in adults is called tachycardia.
