That Hideous Strength Analysis
When C.S. Lewis wrote That Hideous Strength , the characters Mark and Jane show their differences
when it came to values and morals. Even though culture can be educational, in today s society it has
effects when it comes to the learned behaviors. I will show comparisons and contrast when it comes to
my culture and the culture that is portrayed in the book. Cultural behaviors shape who we are and
what we stand for. In the text I gathered Jane to be restricted and resentful while Mark on the other
hand has many friends, but always seems to fall short when communicating with other fellows at
Bracton College.
I suppose there are two views about everything, said Mark. (Lewis, pg 70). When we discuss culture
and values each generation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They never warned you. No one has ever told you that obedience humility is an erotic necessity. You
are putting equality just where it ought to be (Lewis, pg. ) Humility to me meant a desire to stay
humble. Equality means to be equal when a person wants to increase status, equal right opportunities.
For example, the criminal justice system is truly unfair and unjust, making race the number one
priority in most cases. The values that we portray are learned such as respect. Power and control seem
to rule social positions and how people relate to others. The perspective of education has now been the
American Dream. In today s world you have to work hard to obtain equality among different
diversities and most importantly gender.
These values that I possess are different from the characters in the book. I am honest, trustworthy,
open minded, empathetic and patient when it comes to dealing with other people. In the text the
characters seemed to be fearful, dishonest, judgmental, treating people like a means to an end and bias
in different interactions. When comparing my values of the characters in the text one thing was very
similar GOD. Religion in the text whether good or evil existed between St. Anne s and N.I.C.E.
organization. These types of values and behaviors occur

Lake Tahoe and the Growing Importance for Environmental...
Lake Tahoe, an enormous expanse of clear, blue, fresh water surrounded by meadows and dense
forests and rimmed by snow capped peaks, is one of the world s great scenic and ecological wonders.
Tahoe s water is world famous for its amazing clarity. Even today, one can see objects 70 feet below
the surface, a clarity matched almost nowhere in the world. The Tahoe Basin had a slowly evolving
and essentially balanced environment for thousands of years, with surrounding forests, meadows and
marshlands helping to maintain the clarity and purity of the lake. This pristine environment also
provided habitat for great diversity of plants and wildlife. Hundreds of species of native plants thrived
in forest, marsh, and meadow. But now, in scarcely a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As is indicated by the data, the area grew at a high rate before the establishment of TRPA. Also
included in the table, is the summer population. This data is important to examine in order to
understand the drastic population fluctuation s impact on the Tahoe Basin. It is also vital for
understanding the reason behind TRPA being formed, in order to increase environmental conservation
and awareness. Another indicator of this secondary population is the amount of vacant housing due to
seasonal or recreational use as a proportion of the amount of housing in the basin. The percentage of
outside of area owners of housing and condominiums indicates that most residences are not owner
occupied or are vacant for occasional use. Finally, the median single family housing price shows an
increasing problem in the Tahoe basin, that housing is becoming less and less affordable in the area.
The permanent population is now about 54,000, and as many as 200,000 people visit during the
busiest summer weekends. A tremendous portion of this population growth is due in large part in the
Lake Tahoe area to the Geriatrification of the available property. The Baby Boomers who are buying
second homes and retiring in unprecedented numbers have recently surpassing all other age groups in
the home purchasing market in the region of Lake Tahoe. This is a large group of people who are just
scratching the surface of the second home market and who

Finch Evolution And Completing The Gizmo Analysis
After watching the video on Finch evolution, and completing the gizmo, I have found many
correlations between the finch population, and the climate of the Galapagos Islands. The Finches beak
size was dependent on the climate, and natural selection. The population of the birds increased and
decreased throughout the years because the extreme climate changes and the process of natural
selection. For example, when there is little or no rainfall a drought; the bird population steadily
decreases, because birds are dying off due to the lack of rainfall. When rainfall became scarce, the
food supply did too. The small seeds that birds with small beaks relied on dissapeared. The only food
left on the Islands were large, hard seeds or fruits. The birds

The On The Begging Of Time
In the begging of time, Spicious created three spherical planets arranged in a triangle. A solid plant
where animals land animals lived, a liquid planet where amphibious animals lived, and a gas planet
where winged animals lived. All three planets were connected by bridges that were made of pure
energy. There was a problem Spicious only allowed humans to travel between the planets the other
animals had to stay on their planet. Spicious gave all of the animals enough to survive for a period of
time but after the resources were depleted the animals would die. If all of the animals died the humans
would die because they would not have any meat to eat and the vegetation would die because it would
not get enough carbon dioxide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The humans then moved their way on over to the winged animals and inquired about the problem with
them to see if they had a solution. The winged animals then advised that all animals and humans that
didn t have wings create winged inventions so that everyone could be transported between the planets.
The winged animals plan also had another fault like the rest, no one possessed the knowledge or the
materials to make such crafts. Then out of nowhere a human spoke up and suggested that they merge
the three planets into one enormous planet. All animals and humans agreed to go through with the
human s plan.
The humans then consulted on how to do such a plan and came with the idea of freezing the bridge
and then smashing it so it was then connected to the planets. After the bridges were broken the animals
would begin to move in circles to make the planets rotate into each other and collide to make the one
gargantuan planet that all of them were dreaming of living on. The first action that the humans and
land dwelling animals was to mine on the solid planet. After the solids were mined the humans
brought the solids over to the amphibious animals. The amphibious animals then dove into the depths
of the planet s core with the solids to freeze the solids. After the solids were frozen the amphibious
animals brought the solids back to the

A Trip On The Earth s Sister Planet
Synopsis: Astronauts are travelling to Venus. This is the first human mission ever to visit Earth s sister
planet. They must survive a many month journey in cramped quarters, and that isn t even the difficult
part. It is necessary for them survive on the surface of Venus as well. The second planet in our Solar
System is not a hospitable place. The crew will have to face the challenges of Venus s high winds and
violent storms, the crushing air pressure, and more. Using the Russian Venera missions as a guide, the
scientists planned what they hope will be a safe mission for the astronauts to travel there and back
safely. My sci fi story will follow the perspective of one of the Hesperis crew members on a journey
though the inner solar system. In order to develop an idea of how the astronauts will be able to land
and live on Venus safely, we will need to study the missions to Venus. From 1961 1983 Russia
developed the Venera missions, which traveled to Venus [2]. At this point in time, Russia has been the
only country to land spacecraft on the planet, though none of the probes lasted especially long. In
1978, the United States launched the Pioneer Venus 2 probe. It made it into Venus s atmosphere and
survived long enough to reach 110 km above the surface, but this was the closest the United States
ever got to landing on Venus [1]. Russia accomplished a total of sixteen Venera missions [2]. We will
not be focusing on Venera 1 or 2, because these did not make it into Venus s

The War And Plato s Symposium, And The Man Discussed
In two very different works we see two equally different portrayals of the same man; these differences
are informed by the author s purpose, the genre of the work, and the effects of the depiction upon the
rest of the specific work. These works are of course Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian
War and Plato s Symposium, and the man discussed is the Athenian giant, Alcibiades of the
Alcmaeonidae. The authors, of course, have their own aims and reasons for writing their works, Plato,
writing an allegory on love likely to defend his teacher Socrates, and Thucydides, to inform on what
he believes to be the most significant war in history. The genres of the works being philosophy and
history respectively also affects the rhetoric of Alcibiades speech; as well as his greater portrayals in
the works. It is important to note the differences in the depictions as they are significant not only to
understanding the literary merit of the works, but also furthering the knowledge with respect to the
author s motives and the state of higher opinion on a maverick of a man in the late 5th and early 4th
Centuries BC in Athens. The first significant variance one must note between the author s works is the
rhetoric and aims of the speeches Alcibiades makes in the two works. In Plato s Symposium all the
major characters are at a dinner party and are giving speeches about eros, the Greek concept of love,
and there is quite an awkward relationship squabble occurring between Socrates and

Hiroshima Bombing Cons
On the morning of August 6th, 1945 the Enola Gay dropped the first atom bomb nicknamed the Little
Boy on Hiroshima killing 45,000 people instantly and also more deaths due to radiation. And three
days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing thousands of more people. America
shouldn t have dropped the bomb for many reason and they re becuase it is inhumane to kill thousands
of innocent civilians when Japan s Military was crumbling. This leads me to my next argument that
since their military was crumbling you can assume they were going to surrender soon because they
wouldn t have much left if they didn t. And finally the bombs were dropped on cities with little
industrial zones and they were on the outskirts of the town. Not

The Brain s Catalyst Paper
Exercise: The Brain s Catalyst
An increasing body of evidence verifies the influence of exercise on energy and function of the central
nervous system (CNS) and how it can even help against neurological disorders. According to these
studies and reports, exercise has the astonishing ability to boost mental health, and modern efforts are
being dedicated to use this capability to reduce cognitive degeneration in aging and psychiatric
illnesses. In this paper, recent studies are examined in humans and animals demonstrating the ability
of exercise to uphold cognitive health across a lifespan. Accompanied with the goal to develop a
complete explanation of how the effects of exercise in the brain correlates to the results provided from
human studies. Improvements in neuroimaging have been vital in recording the relationship between
the intellectual benefit and action of particular neural networks in the hippocampus and cerebral
cortex involving individuals who practice exercise. Current innovations in the imaging of ... Show

For example, exercise has proven an extraordinary ability to impact molecular passageways involved
with synaptic function, which is essential to learning and memory. Provided the core relation amongst
exercise and energy metabolism, it is not unforeseen that modulation of energy related molecular
systems seems to be a leading tool in how exercise affects synaptic flexibility and cognition as well.
These discoveries complement with a budding course of studies, displaying that the metabolism of
energy at the cellular level is closely coupled with regulation of not only synaptic plasticity, but
neuronal excitability as well. Long story short, appropriate energy metabolism involving the
mitochondria is essential for harboring neuronal signaling events through the plasma membrane, and
exercise plays a fundamental role in facilitating these

Jamestown, Virginia, And The United States Of America
Before there were fifty states, there were many different colonies, formed by many different countries
and in different regions. Eventually, the settlements were narrowed down to thirteen English colonies.
These settlements ultimately became the first thirteen states of the United States of America. This is
the story of how they were formed. The first of the thirteen colonies was Jamestown, Virginia.
Virginia was was the first successful British settlement in the Americas, colonized in 1607. (Before
Jamestown, there was a colony named Roanoke , in what is now North Carolina. This colony, settled
in 1587, was abandoned by 1590, all the colonists having disappeared without a trace) England
crossed the Atlantic to establish a permanent colony, as well as to search for riches. Though
Jamestown did eventually get their wealth, it was not for the reasons that they originally anticipated.
Jamestown was the first colony to start growing tobacco, which they gained a grand profit from.
Jamestown, Virginia was also the first colony to start using slaves, beginning in 1619. The settlement
of Virginia also had another negative impact besides slavery. When the English first came over from
Europe, they brought diseases that the Native Americans immune systems were not equipped to deal
with. This resulted in a large majority of Native Americans dying off.
Thirteen years after Virginia was colonized, the Pilgrims formed the colony of Plymouth. The
Pilgrims, who were English,

Art history essay on Adopting an approach
Martin Robertson and Mary Beard s manuscript, Adopting an Approach, focuses on the study of
Athenian pottery. The manuscript begins, by describing Sir John Beazley and his revolutionary
method of studying Greek vases. The Beazley Method focuses on the technical conventions of Greek
Vases such as naming the artist, dating the pieces and then grouping them based off of similar
characteristics. Beazley provided for the first time a comprehensive framework of analysis for
Athenian painting, and a way of dating and classifying. (Pg. 16) However, what Beard s main
argument suggests is that it is not the artists that help us understand the importance of the vases
because even if a vase is assigned to a specific time period or artist, there is ... Show more content on

This particular kylix is a good example because it shows how the women contradict each other and
through this piece we can understand the jobs of each type of woman and we can speculate how they
balanced one another out in Athenian society.
Adopting an Approach has many strong arguments and claims throughout the manuscript. Particularly
in the beginning, Beard does a great job of enticing the assumed college level reader and relating to
that specific audience. She does this when explaining, understanding the images around us, by talking
about a French perfume advertisement. By doing this, she relates to the age group that would be
reading this manuscript by combining something that they might be familiar with, to something they
are unfamiliar with. Although this is initially a strong way to go about attracting the reader, it needs to
be done at the right moments. On pages fourteen and fifteen, she gives many more unrelated
examples, which ultimately, causes the reader to forget the original point trying to be made. Beard s
claim needed to be made quicker, before the reader loses sight of what the article is about. If this
article were to be published in the Undergraduate s Guide to Art History, I would eliminate a lot of the
extra examples that aren t necessary to get

Dogmatic Differences Between The Roman Catholic Church And...
Dogmatic Differences Between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church
Christianity is a major world religion with several branches, which, despite sharing common ideas and
beliefs, have developed significant differences over the course of history.
Perhaps the greatest breach in the Church happened in 1054 and is called the Great Schism. The
causes of this division are sophisticated and rooted in history. To put it shortly, even before the Roman
Empire was split into the Western and the Byzantine Empires, the independent development of the
Latin speaking West and the Greek speaking East led to significant differences in scholarly cultures
and traditions. This controversy resulted in the Schism; the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern
Orthodox Church were declared as two separate churches.
There have been numerous discussions and works that describe the differences between these two
branches of Christianity. However, an average learner should treat any matter he reads on the subject
carefully, since academic works are not so widely available, and the sources that are readily ... Show

Catholics view the Pope as the Vicar of Christ , the visible head of the church on Earth; thus, he is a
supreme power in the Church. The teaching about his primacy is rooted in the belief that he is the
spiritual successor of St. Peter, who was given the responsibility to care for the Church. The Pope has
supreme authority over church councils and should be respected by all other bishops. However, the
Pope s authority is only prevalent in regards to practicing of common faith and spiritual leadership. Of
course, there have been cases where the Pope abused his power, but at least in theory the Pope is not a
dictator ruling with absolute power over the Church. He should also not strive to have temporal and
secular power, as Pope John Paul II demonstrated by refusing to wear the papal tiara at the time of his

Love And Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy
Throughout the history, it has been evident that relationships are a vital part of human life.
Particularly, our desire for love and the influence this has on our lives has constantly been the subject
of literature. Whilst relationships have remained the same; our views on relationships have changed
massively. In the poem Valentine , Carol Ann Duffy talks about the unorthodox love when she
compares love to an onion. The use of strong imagery, powerful diction, distinct form and structure
and various poetic devices (such as extended metaphors), enables the poet to present her unique
perspective of love contrasting to the stereotypical way love is often thought about. Moreover, Duffy
has used a range of verbs to highlight the apparent difference ... Show more content on

This direct address by Duffy for her readers makes her appear bold and confident. Similar to the third
stanza, the connotations of the onion are used throughout this stanza without mentioning the onion. At
this point, Duffy has progressed the relationship to the degree of marriage. She highlights ironic
similarities when she writes about how it platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring , which makes little
sense as platinum is a very expensive metal while the onion is not precious or desirable at all. The
verb shrink may symbolise some sort of entrapment. If you like is almost like asking the recipient for
his/her will and perhaps suggesting that the relationship could go in this direction but it is not
necessary for the things that will inevitably follow. As the end of the poem progresses, Duddy begins
to suggest that failed relationships can be difficult to overcome. She goes as far as to state that love
may be lethal which implies that the loss of a lover can cause some part of a person to die or perhaps
more sinisterly that it may result in suicide. This also puts emphasis on danger and commitment in
love and may refer to the increasing danger of getting more deeply committed to a relationship.
Therefore, the more one is committed, the harder (or more lethal ) the fall is, when it ends. The scent
of the onion is a symbol of the thoughts and emotions

Comparing The Tortilla Curtain And Child, In The Rose Garden
The social commentaries in both The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle and Child, Dead, in the Rose
Garden by E.L. Doctorow unveils the true reality of the American Government and the social injustice
of the American society. In the Tortilla Curtain, T.C. Boyle took upon an adventure of two illegal
immigrants from Mexico who faced the unsettling truth of the social class system of America. But In
Child, Dead, in a Rose Garden E.L. Doctorow expresses the injustice of the Government and their
ability to blindside the public with fraudulent information. Both of these writings apply a different
structure, which can ultimately show the differences on such similar ideas. The authors E.L Doctorow
and T.C.Boyle write about two very different topics. One story shows just how does the social class
system work, and the interaction between immigration and immigrants. While E.L. Doctorow s writes
about a death of a young man which was the symbol of what would change America. Now aside from
the plots themselves, they share similar ideas, like the viewpoint of they always win and the unsettling
reality on the rulings of the Government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Of The Dictatorship Of Big Brother And The...
The dictatorship of Big Brother and the American government, both use similar ways to monitor their
citizens, but they have different reasons for it. Big Brother wants to closely monitor his citizens so
they are obedient by fear and the American government watches their citizens to protect them and
their rights. They do this through televisions, spies and surveillance cameras. In the beginning of the
novel 1984, the reader is introduced to how the government under the dictatorship of Big Brother is
administrated as well as how it runs its citizens. Not only are the people of Oceania suppressed, but
they are also audited through whatever means deemed necessary by the government. They are even
watched through their televisions. Because of this the main character, Winston Smith, placed his
television on a wall in his house so Winston was able to remain outside the range of the telescreen, so
far as sight went. This is where Winston writes his qualms with the government down in a diary.

How A Company Needs Help Expand Into New Markets
A company needs funds to expand into new markets, while governments need money for everything
from infrastructure to social programs. The problem large organizations run into is that they typically
need far more money than the average bank can provide. The solution is to raise money by issuing
bonds (or other debt instruments) to a public market. Thousands of investors then each lend a portion
of the capital needed. Really, a bond is nothing more than a loan for which you are the lender. The
organization that sells a bond is known as the issuer. The bond market (also debt market or credit
market) is a financial market where participants can issue new debt, known as the primary market, or
buy and sell debt securities, known as the secondary market. This is usually in the form of bonds, but
it may include notes, bills.
A bond s price fluctuates throughout its life in response to a number of variables. When a bond trades
at a price above the face value, it is said to be selling at a premium. When a bond sells below face
value, it is said to be selling at a discount. The coupon is the amount the bondholder will receive as
interest payments. It s called a coupon because sometimes there are physical coupons on the bond that
you tear off and redeem for interest. However, this was more common in the past. Nowadays, records
are more likely to be kept electronically. The maturity date is the date in the future on which the
investor s principal will be repaid. Maturities can

1984 Mind Control Analysis
In our modern world we don t often think about the possibility that somebody could potentially gain
control of our minds. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a fact. In
the book 1984 as well as in real life mind control proves to be a key technique in gaining power and
control over people.
In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping the
way they think. They don t want their people to obey their rules because of fear or a sense of duty,
rather they want the people to wholeheartedly believe in the government. Using mind control
techniques the ingsoc government transforms its people into beings who cannot think on their own,
but need guidance for every part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in 1984.
However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way. People
such as marines go into the program believing that they will just be taught how to protect their
country, but the disciplinary measures they go through often consist of mind control. They are
expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking.
These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following.
All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full control
over their own minds. However most of the examples provided in Captive Minds are quite different
than the methods in 1984 in the fact that they aren t brutally forced. In Canada we don t have to spend
our days worrying that someone will force us into joining a mind washing cult. The only thing we
have to do is avoid joining organizations or groups with blind faith by finding out what they are about

Communication Failure
Communication is not an easy process. It involves verbal and non verbal attempts to assist the other
person to understand what we are trying to communicate. Yet it often fails.
The communication occurring between two people as discussed in the statement above is known by
academics as interpersonal communication . Interpersonal communication can be defined as a two
way, transactional process in which two people, occupying a shared space, continue to send
information to each other and receive information from each simultaneously. (DeVito, 2008; Firth,
Berry amp; Irvine, 2010; Hartley, 1999). The above statement refers to the process of interpersonal
communication.

Verbal and non verbal messages expressed by should ideally have congruency, meaning they
complement each other (DeVito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Incongruent verbal and non verbal messages
often lead to confusion in the receiver, hindering successful reception and comprehension of the
information being communicated and therefore resulting in a failure in the communication process
(Devito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Hence, congruent verbal and non verbal messages encoded and
communicated by sender will also aid in reducing the likeliness of communication failure.
It has been suggested that a failure or breakdown in the interpersonal communication process can be
further reduced if both the sender and receiver possess satisfactory levels of what is termed emotional
intelligence (Goleman, 1998; Lynn, 2002). Emotional intelligence may be defined as a person s ability
to recognise, control and evaluate their own feelings and emotions as well as the feelings and
emotions of others (Goleman, 1998). Goleman (1998) states that emotional Intelligence is made up of
five elements, these being: self awareness, self regulation, self motivation, empathy, and the
possession of social skills. Self awareness comprises of: the ability to recognise one s emotions;
awareness of one s strengths, weaknesses and potential; and one s ability to

The Spy and The Bravo
Spy fiction is defined as a genre of literature that focuses on the activities of spies and the world of
espionage. The genre dates back to the mid to late 19th century. An early example of a spy novel is by
an American novelist James Fenimore Cooper; The spy (1821) and The Bravo (1831). Spy fiction
would mostly be influenced by events that have occurred in the real world such as, the Cold War,
which will be discussed in this essay and how it became to influence the writing of spy fiction and
how it built its popularity in the literature world. The Cold War emerged in 1946 due to the tension
between the western powers (USA, UK, Europe and Canada) and the Soviet Union, which included
the Russian communist. Shortly after the Second World War ended, the Soviet Union refused to
remove its forces in areas of Europe that they have taken over during the war. This caused the crisis of
the Cuban Missile Crisis and Berlin wall, being just some of the issue raised at that time. The Soviet
Union broke up in 1991. The most enduring motif about the Cold War is the storytelling about spies,
agent and assassins living a double life that included secrecy so they could infiltrate their enemies.
The US and USSR spent a large amount of time and money to train spies and agents during the Cold
War to deploy them around the world. The main purpose of espionage is to gather information from
their enemy and as their technology or gadgets were not advanced as it is now, they would send spies

Why You Should Be A Republican Essay
A majority of Republicans want a candidate with new ideas rather than experience and proven record.
I have researched about why you should be a republican and the definition of a republican is, a person
who is supportive of the Republican Party(Victoria . . . Says). Being a part of the Republican party is
important because they believe strongly in the educational program which determines the learning
process of each subject in all stages of education, the party believes in lowering taxes and spending
money wisely, and are pro life on the issue of abortion(Victoria . . . Says). These are things that are
very important to the world.
Republicans believe strongly in the educational program, because they want a higher education
program. The higher education program is providing students with opportunities they need in their
future. More students would be ready for the work fields, and less working minimum wage jobs that
aren t relevant to their education. They want to make changes to provide students with opportunities
they are pursuing(Victoria . . . Says).

Poe Oval Portrait Essay
1. Why did the mysterious gentleman and his valet break into the abandoned chateau? a) The valet
brings the mysterious gentleman, who is also the narrator, into an abandoned chateau because the man
is injured and he does not want the man to have to sleep outside.
2. What was unusual about the oval portrait? a) The oval portrait was so unusual because it had been
hidden in the dark near the bedpost. The painting is of a young girl who looks like she is about to
become a woman. The painting startled the narrator because it looks so real that he almost thought the
girl was in front of him in real life.

he knew that she was an obedient caring woman and would support him. A man who truly loved his
wife would not put art before his own wife and would definitely not allow her to die in front of him.
This just proves what his true priorities in life are.
6. Can you imagine a similar situation occurring today? Explain why or why not.
a)I feel like this situation is quite common in relationships. A man or woman goes out with someone
just because they know that person is a good person at heart. They believe they love them, but it is
their qualities the love, not the person as a whole and definitely not for the right reasons. Relationships
like this never last, because the person is always choosing other things over their loved one. Gambling
is a perfect example for this scenario. A person may choose gambling over the person they love,
because in fact they love gambling more than the person itself, and therefore cannot stop gambling
and will put nothing above it.

Summary Of The Heavy Wooden Door Abruptly
Slam! The heavy wooden door abruptly halts producing a shockwave composed of eight years of
anger and grief. Nora turns around. With a mindless mechanical movement, she trudges through the
dense snow. Nora follows the footprints that lie ahead of her. The snow is so deep that she barely
manages to keep her stockings half dry. The darkness quickly consumes Nora. Her sense of direction
is guided only by faint footprints, and a lambent lantern. Nora is all alone. As Nora crests the hill, she
looks one last time at her estate. Nora can faintly see Torvald s outline in the sitting room, frozen like
a painting in time. Resolutely, she turns her body and makes her way down the steep slope. The wind
whips at Nora s face as it crinkles her clothes and flaps her hair. With a sense of freedom, Nora skips
down the hill with joy like a young bird experiencing flight for its first time. She falls. Nora s hair and
dress are littered with thick clumps of snow. She tumbles down the hill and slides across the frozen
Nytt Liv stream into a soft snowbank. Slightly shaken, Nora outwardly exclaims, Oh dear! I do have a
lot to learn! Nora continues to navigate her way through the icy landscape for some time until she
reaches Krogstad s snow covered shanty. A sense of anomie accompanies her deadpan face frozen
from the cold wind. After a few moments of blank staring, Nora knocks on the door. A solemn hollow
sound penetrates through the door and echos through the house. After a few minutes, Nora

Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education
Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational
services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math. This
is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed
into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce
Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current
accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level
development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness.
Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and
language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an
increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high school equivalency diplomas.
These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English
literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to
place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn,
Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the primary federal
programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult education, and vocational
rehabilitation services, and establishes

Essay On The San Francisco Earthquake
The San Francisco Earthquake The San Francisco Earthquake written by Jack London is journal of his
events throughout the devastating acts of God that hit San Francisco in 1906. (461 466)
The Earthquake shook buildings and walls to the ground. But, what came after the quake was much
more devastating. Fires broke out in every direction and this thriving city became mostly ashes.
People became curious and gracious in this time of turmoil and that has never before been seen in San
Francisco. When all hope was lost the firefighters made a great stand putting out the fire and ending
the turmoil.
The way that London wrote how his life was in the middle of the San Francisco Earthquake written

Factors Affecting The Business Organization
Introduction: In the process of manufacturing, packaging, marketing and other necessary business
activities, businesses interact with internal and external factors which may affect the business and can
be affected by the business as well. A combination of both of the factors comprises the business
environment in which the business operates. The internal factors refer to the factors those function
within the business organization and the business can control or facilitate them as needed. Some
prominent internal factors are the working conditions, employees, employer to employee relations,
organizational culture and organizational structure etc. For a British American online chain store like
ASDA, the total numbers of employees working for the organization (140,000 employees working in
500 stores) is a key internal factor. On the other hand, external recruitment are factors as such as
political factors(Laws and regulation system, governmental activities and ownership module, tariffs/
Taxation and trade barriers, conflict between political parties and socio political unrest etc.)
Macroeconomic concerns (interest rate, exchange rate of currency, employment rate, unemployment
rate, discretionary income, GDP, recessions, depressions, inflation etc.), microeconomic concern
(market size, demand and supply diagram, distribution channel and delivery mode etc.), social and
technological factors which are not in the control of the business but affect the business by their

80 A.D, the Pantheon temple was burned down in a fire. Eventually, the third Roman emperor
Domitian of the Flavian dynasty rebuilt a new temple there, but this one was also destroyed in a fire in
110 A.D. Around 120 A.D Roman period, King Hadrian rebuilt the third Pantheon in a more modern
style and this is the temple we have today. Apollodorus of Damascus, who was an architect designer
during that period of time, assisted King Hadrian in rebuilding the best preserved Roman monument,
the new Pantheon. The reconstruction of this project started soon after Hadrian became emperor and it
was probably completed by 125 A.D. To honor Agrippa, Hadrian left a message over the door written

The Influences of NiccolĂČ Machiavelli’s The Prince on...
Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most
powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his highway
to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for him up until
his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from NiccolĂČ Machiavelli s The Prince, which
is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling. Richard followed
Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but he failed to heed one of
his warnings: he made himself unpopular.
Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King already
having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother s children
would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering family and
children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he had done was a
damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for him to ascend the
throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was a threat to his
kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that didn t belong to him,
he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. He warned the Prince that the deed might
anger God, but implied that there was no other way

workers. With the changes, Billman said the university is looking to find some economies of scale and
efficiencies. OARDC and ATI each had their own facility crews and land crews. We re working
toward a one team crew, Benfield said. Additionally, the two entities also have their own equipment.
Money can be saved in this area, as well as in insurance. As the transition moves forward, there are
still some questions about who will become dean of the college. Hendrick is leaving for Michigan
State University. McPheron is being considered for the provost position; if he does not get appointed
permanently to the position, then returning as dean is a possibility. A permanent associate dean of

Benfield said. The research is continuing. We are not worrying about who s in

The Methyl Red, Microbiology Laboratory Theory And...
The Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth is a combination medium that contains peptone, glucose,
and a phosphate buffer that produce proteins, fermentable carbohydrates, and a consistent pH level
(Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory Theory and Application). The Methyl Red test uses the Methyl
Red and Voges Proskauer broth to determine if an organism produces stable or unstable acid by
performing a mixed acid fermentation of glucose. If an organism produces a stable acid, it is positive
for executing the mixed acid fermentation which then lowers the pH level in the broth to 4.4 and turns
it red. Unstable acids convert to neutral products and the broth will stay yellow or turn orange, both
indicate a negative mixed acid fermentation (Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory Theory and
Application). Two of the four bacteria used had red broth indicating positive test results for mixed acid
fermentation with glucose, they were Escherichia coli and Proteus vulgaris, my known bacteria. The
other two bacteria, Alcaligenes faecalis and Enterobacter aerogenes, and unknown bacteria D were
negative for mixed acid fermentation. Based on these test results, my unknown could be Alcaligenes
faecalis or Enterobacter aerogenes. The Voges Proskauer test used the Methyl Red and Voges
Proskauer broth to determine if an organism produces acetoin after the degrading of glucose during a
2,3 butanediol fermentation (Leboffe, A Photographic Atlas for the Microbiology Laboratory). Only

So as friends they wanted to help Hamlet out by playing the question game with each other.
The author Stoppard made Hamlet the minor character and the antagonist in his play. However,
through his speeches we can think he is controlling the protagonists. When the Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are dead play shifts to Shakespeare s Hamlet play, the audience gets a hint that the
dialogues are about to change. It happens more when they are about to interact with Hamlet. Hamlet in
Stoppard s play was lost in his own world than socialize with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. But
somehow his character s presence gave Rosencrantz and Guildenstern a hard time in their simple
aimless life.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern lives changed after Hamlet entered their life. As friends, they really
wanted to figure out Hamlet s madness problems. For this reason, they started playing the only
question game to solve Hamlet s mystery. This gave them a reason to serve the king and help Hamlet.
The readers will think the only reason the protagonists agreed to spy on Hamlet because they were
friends. And not because of money or rewards since they are not greedy people. (Hamlet goes.
Triumph dawns on them, they smile) (Stoppard 32). In short, both got a little scared whenever Hamlet
showed up because they were discussing and summarizing his personal life. At the same time, didn t

Essay On Tiger Beer
1) The history of Tiger Beer started in Singapore in 1930. An incidental meeting between Singapore
carbonated beverages giants, Fraser and Neave and Dutch brewer, Heineken, achieved the
development of Malayan Breweries. In October 1932, Singapore s first lager, Tiger Beer, was
presented.
Malayan Breweries had its name changed to Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) in year 1990 in order to
better mirror the developing regionalization of its business intrigues. Today, APB s portfolio includes
more than 40 lager brands and variations and it is backed by 28 breweries in Singapore, Malaysia,
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and India.

targeted audience are viewing. Television as an advertising tool has strong visual representation.
According to statistics, 57% of consumers say that product videos make them more confident in a

commemoration of Singapore s 50th birthday (SG50), Tiger Beer s latest campaign did by advertising
agency BBDO Singapore has released the first Tiger Beer can from 1965 which was the same year

The Dalit Movement
Dalit Movement In Modern India
All those people of distinct castes and sub castes among the depressed classes who were traditionally
subjected to invidious discriminations on grounds of untouchability, and categorized as the
downtrodden, untouchables, depressed classes, exterior classes or Scheduled Castes were called
Dalits.
Dalit movement can be defined as institutional or organizational efforts made by Dalit leaders for the
liberation of the downtrodden masses. It is a movement of protest against untouchability, casteism and
superstitions. It aims at uplifting Dalits to the level of non Dalits.
The Bhakti movement was a reformative Hindu religious movement of the medieval period and it
promoted the belief that salvation can be attained by everyone. The movement is closely related to
Islamic Sufism, which appeared around the same time.
Since Hindu society was caste ridden society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It preceded the modern Dalit Movement by around 600 years.
Thus, the Bhakti movement served the Indian society in two ways firstly, it tried to bridge the gulf
between Hinduism and Islam, and secondly, it created a philosophical base for social equality and set
in motion a new trend toward social and spiritual equality.
The Bhakti Movement in South India was spearheaded by the Alwars and Nayanars of the fifth
century AD. Some of the Bhakti leaders like Kanaka Dasa and Purandara Dasa of Karnataka
contributed to literature. Sants Chaitanya, Kabir, Tulsi Das, Vallabha, Meera Bai Tukaram, and others
led the movement in the North. They taught that people could cast aside the rituals and caste
considerations and express their overwhelming love for God. Even though an untouchable ,

Phonological Perspectives On Language Development
Language development can be defined as how children improve their language skills during their
childhood. This topic has resulted in many disagreements between language experts. The
disagreement is whether genetic or environment effects our development. This is referred as the nature
and nurture conflict. Nature is the characteristics we inherit through our genes (McLeod, 2016).
Nurture is the influence of external factors (McLeod, 2016). Language experts have different views on
how children develop their language. There are six theoretical perspectives on language acquisition,
these are behavioural, nativist, maturational, cognitive development, social interactionist and
neurobiological perspectives. Nature and nurture play an equal role ... Show more content on

When children are 8 18 months they say their first words, there is a variation because of
environmental influences and genetic. They comprehend the meaning of around 10,000 words by the
age of six (Berk, 2013, p. 376). According to social interactionist perspective children s nature and
their language and social worlds influences how quick and how much their early language develops
(Fellowes and Oakley, 2014, p. 51). Studies illustrates girls early vocabulary growth is ahead of boys.
The biological explanation for this is that girls mature faster physically, which develops the cerebral
hemisphere of girls earlier (Berk, 2013, 377). Children s language development does not occur by
maturity only. Adults play a major role in children s semantic development. Children who are not
getting enough quality parent child interaction have a lower vocabulary, as the amount of vocabulary
they learn is due to their literacy experiences at home. Children s first words are words that are
familiar to them typically include people, objects that move, foods, animals, familiar actions,
outcomes of such actions and social terms (Berk, 2013, p. 376). Therefore social support is critical in
order to help in the child s language development, according to Bruner s concept of a language
acquisition support system (LASS) (Fellowes and Oakley, 2014). As pre schoolers listen to different
sentence structures,

  • 2. That Hideous Strength Analysis When C.S. Lewis wrote That Hideous Strength , the characters Mark and Jane show their differences when it came to values and morals. Even though culture can be educational, in today s society it has effects when it comes to the learned behaviors. I will show comparisons and contrast when it comes to my culture and the culture that is portrayed in the book. Cultural behaviors shape who we are and what we stand for. In the text I gathered Jane to be restricted and resentful while Mark on the other hand has many friends, but always seems to fall short when communicating with other fellows at Bracton College. I suppose there are two views about everything, said Mark. (Lewis, pg 70). When we discuss culture and values each generation has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They never warned you. No one has ever told you that obedience humility is an erotic necessity. You are putting equality just where it ought to be (Lewis, pg. ) Humility to me meant a desire to stay humble. Equality means to be equal when a person wants to increase status, equal right opportunities. For example, the criminal justice system is truly unfair and unjust, making race the number one priority in most cases. The values that we portray are learned such as respect. Power and control seem to rule social positions and how people relate to others. The perspective of education has now been the American Dream. In today s world you have to work hard to obtain equality among different diversities and most importantly gender. These values that I possess are different from the characters in the book. I am honest, trustworthy, open minded, empathetic and patient when it comes to dealing with other people. In the text the characters seemed to be fearful, dishonest, judgmental, treating people like a means to an end and bias in different interactions. When comparing my values of the characters in the text one thing was very similar GOD. Religion in the text whether good or evil existed between St. Anne s and N.I.C.E. organization. • 3. Lake Tahoe and the Growing Importance for Environmental... Lake Tahoe, an enormous expanse of clear, blue, fresh water surrounded by meadows and dense forests and rimmed by snow capped peaks, is one of the world s great scenic and ecological wonders. Tahoe s water is world famous for its amazing clarity. Even today, one can see objects 70 feet below the surface, a clarity matched almost nowhere in the world. The Tahoe Basin had a slowly evolving and essentially balanced environment for thousands of years, with surrounding forests, meadows and marshlands helping to maintain the clarity and purity of the lake. This pristine environment also provided habitat for great diversity of plants and wildlife. Hundreds of species of native plants thrived in forest, marsh, and meadow. But now, in scarcely a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As is indicated by the data, the area grew at a high rate before the establishment of TRPA. Also included in the table, is the summer population. This data is important to examine in order to understand the drastic population fluctuation s impact on the Tahoe Basin. It is also vital for understanding the reason behind TRPA being formed, in order to increase environmental conservation and awareness. Another indicator of this secondary population is the amount of vacant housing due to seasonal or recreational use as a proportion of the amount of housing in the basin. The percentage of outside of area owners of housing and condominiums indicates that most residences are not owner occupied or are vacant for occasional use. Finally, the median single family housing price shows an increasing problem in the Tahoe basin, that housing is becoming less and less affordable in the area. The permanent population is now about 54,000, and as many as 200,000 people visit during the busiest summer weekends. A tremendous portion of this population growth is due in large part in the Lake Tahoe area to the Geriatrification of the available property. The Baby Boomers who are buying second homes and retiring in unprecedented numbers have recently surpassing all other age groups in the home purchasing market in the region of Lake Tahoe. This is a large group of people who are just scratching the surface of the second home market and who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Finch Evolution And Completing The Gizmo Analysis After watching the video on Finch evolution, and completing the gizmo, I have found many correlations between the finch population, and the climate of the Galapagos Islands. The Finches beak size was dependent on the climate, and natural selection. The population of the birds increased and decreased throughout the years because the extreme climate changes and the process of natural selection. For example, when there is little or no rainfall a drought; the bird population steadily decreases, because birds are dying off due to the lack of rainfall. When rainfall became scarce, the food supply did too. The small seeds that birds with small beaks relied on dissapeared. The only food left on the Islands were large, hard seeds or fruits. • 5. The On The Begging Of Time In the begging of time, Spicious created three spherical planets arranged in a triangle. A solid plant where animals land animals lived, a liquid planet where amphibious animals lived, and a gas planet where winged animals lived. All three planets were connected by bridges that were made of pure energy. There was a problem Spicious only allowed humans to travel between the planets the other animals had to stay on their planet. Spicious gave all of the animals enough to survive for a period of time but after the resources were depleted the animals would die. If all of the animals died the humans would die because they would not have any meat to eat and the vegetation would die because it would not get enough carbon dioxide. ... The winged animals then advised that all animals and humans that didn t have wings create winged inventions so that everyone could be transported between the planets. The winged animals plan also had another fault like the rest, no one possessed the knowledge or the materials to make such crafts. Then out of nowhere a human spoke up and suggested that they merge the three planets into one enormous planet. All animals and humans agreed to go through with the human s plan. The humans then consulted on how to do such a plan and came with the idea of freezing the bridge and then smashing it so it was then connected to the planets. After the bridges were broken the animals would begin to move in circles to make the planets rotate into each other and collide to make the one gargantuan planet that all of them were dreaming of living on. The first action that the humans and land dwelling animals was to mine on the solid planet. After the solids were mined the humans brought the solids over to the amphibious animals. The amphibious animals then dove into the depths of the planet s core with the solids to freeze the solids. After the solids were frozen the amphibious animals brought the solids back to the ... • 6. A Trip On The Earth s Sister Planet Synopsis: Astronauts are travelling to Venus. This is the first human mission ever to visit Earth s sister planet. They must survive a many month journey in cramped quarters, and that isn t even the difficult part. It is necessary for them survive on the surface of Venus as well. The second planet in our Solar System is not a hospitable place. The crew will have to face the challenges of Venus s high winds and violent storms, the crushing air pressure, and more. Using the Russian Venera missions as a guide, the scientists planned what they hope will be a safe mission for the astronauts to travel there and back safely. My sci fi story will follow the perspective of one of the Hesperis crew members on a journey though the inner solar system. In order to develop an idea of how the astronauts will be able to land and live on Venus safely, we will need to study the missions to Venus. From 1961 1983 Russia developed the Venera missions, which traveled to Venus [2]. At this point in time, Russia has been the only country to land spacecraft on the planet, though none of the probes lasted especially long. In 1978, the United States launched the Pioneer Venus 2 probe. It made it into Venus s atmosphere and survived long enough to reach 110 km above the surface, but this was the closest the United States ever got to landing on Venus [1]. Russia accomplished a total of sixteen Venera missions [2]. We will not be focusing on Venera 1 or 2, because these did not make it into Venus s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The War And Plato s Symposium, And The Man Discussed In two very different works we see two equally different portrayals of the same man; these differences are informed by the author s purpose, the genre of the work, and the effects of the depiction upon the rest of the specific work. These works are of course Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War and Plato s Symposium, and the man discussed is the Athenian giant, Alcibiades of the Alcmaeonidae. The authors, of course, have their own aims and reasons for writing their works, Plato, writing an allegory on love likely to defend his teacher Socrates, and Thucydides, to inform on what he believes to be the most significant war in history. The genres of the works being philosophy and history respectively also affects the rhetoric of Alcibiades speech; as well as his greater portrayals in the works. It is important to note the differences in the depictions as they are significant not only to understanding the literary merit of the works, but also furthering the knowledge with respect to the author s motives and the state of higher opinion on a maverick of a man in the late 5th and early 4th Centuries BC in Athens. The first significant variance one must note between the author s works is the rhetoric and aims of the speeches Alcibiades makes in the two works. In Plato s Symposium all the major characters are at a dinner party and are giving speeches about eros, the Greek concept of love, and there is quite an awkward relationship squabble occurring between Socrates and ... And three days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing thousands of more people. America shouldn t have dropped the bomb for many reason and they re becuase it is inhumane to kill thousands of innocent civilians when Japan s Military was crumbling. In this paper, recent studies are examined in humans and animals demonstrating the ability of exercise to uphold cognitive health across a lifespan. Accompanied with the goal to develop a complete explanation of how the effects of exercise in the brain correlates to the results provided from human studies. These discoveries complement with a budding course of studies, displaying that the metabolism of energy at the cellular level is closely coupled with regulation of not only synaptic plasticity, but neuronal excitability as well. • 10. Jamestown, Virginia, And The United States Of America Before there were fifty states, there were many different colonies, formed by many different countries and in different regions. Eventually, the settlements were narrowed down to thirteen English colonies. These settlements ultimately became the first thirteen states of the United States of America. This is the story of how they were formed. The first of the thirteen colonies was Jamestown, Virginia. Virginia was was the first successful British settlement in the Americas, colonized in 1607. (Before Jamestown, there was a colony named Roanoke , in what is now North Carolina. This colony, settled in 1587, was abandoned by 1590, all the colonists having disappeared without a trace) England crossed the Atlantic to establish a permanent colony, as well as to search for riches. Though Jamestown did eventually get their wealth, it was not for the reasons that they originally anticipated. Jamestown was the first colony to start growing tobacco, which they gained a grand profit from. Jamestown, Virginia was also the first colony to start using slaves, beginning in 1619. The settlement of Virginia also had another negative impact besides slavery. When the English first came over from Europe, they brought diseases that the Native Americans immune systems were not equipped to deal with. This resulted in a large majority of Native Americans dying off. Thirteen years after Virginia was colonized, the Pilgrims formed the colony of Plymouth. The Pilgrims, who were English, ... • 11. Art history essay on Adopting an approach Martin Robertson and Mary Beard s manuscript, Adopting an Approach, focuses on the study of Athenian pottery. The manuscript begins, by describing Sir John Beazley and his revolutionary method of studying Greek vases. The Beazley Method focuses on the technical conventions of Greek Vases such as naming the artist, dating the pieces and then grouping them based off of similar characteristics. Beazley provided for the first time a comprehensive framework of analysis for Athenian painting, and a way of dating and classifying. (Pg. 16) However, what Beard s main argument suggests is that it is not the artists that help us understand the importance of the vases because even if a vase is assigned to a specific time period or artist, there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This particular kylix is a good example because it shows how the women contradict each other and through this piece we can understand the jobs of each type of woman and we can speculate how they balanced one another out in Athenian society. Adopting an Approach has many strong arguments and claims throughout the manuscript. Particularly in the beginning, Beard does a great job of enticing the assumed college level reader and relating to that specific audience. She does this when explaining, understanding the images around us, by talking about a French perfume advertisement. By doing this, she relates to the age group that would be reading this manuscript by combining something that they might be familiar with, to something they are unfamiliar with. Although this is initially a strong way to go about attracting the reader, it needs to be done at the right moments. On pages fourteen and fifteen, she gives many more unrelated examples, which ultimately, causes the reader to forget the original point trying to be made. Beard s claim needed to be made quicker, before the reader loses sight of what the article is about. If this article were to be published in the Undergraduate s Guide to Art History, I would eliminate a lot of the extra examples that aren t necessary to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Dogmatic Differences Between The Roman Catholic Church And... Dogmatic Differences Between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church Christianity is a major world religion with several branches, which, despite sharing common ideas and beliefs, have developed significant differences over the course of history. Perhaps the greatest breach in the Church happened in 1054 and is called the Great Schism. The causes of this division are sophisticated and rooted in history. To put it shortly, even before the Roman Empire was split into the Western and the Byzantine Empires, the independent development of the Latin speaking West and the Greek speaking East led to significant differences in scholarly cultures and traditions. This controversy resulted in the Schism; the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church were declared as two separate churches. There have been numerous discussions and works that describe the differences between these two branches of Christianity. However, an average learner should treat any matter he reads on the subject carefully, since academic works are not so widely available, and the sources that are readily ... The Pope has supreme authority over church councils and should be respected by all other bishops. However, the Pope s authority is only prevalent in regards to practicing of common faith and spiritual leadership. Of course, there have been cases where the Pope abused his power, but at least in theory the Pope is not a dictator ruling with absolute power over the Church. • 13. Love And Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy Throughout the history, it has been evident that relationships are a vital part of human life. Particularly, our desire for love and the influence this has on our lives has constantly been the subject of literature. Whilst relationships have remained the same; our views on relationships have changed massively. In the poem Valentine , Carol Ann Duffy talks about the unorthodox love when she compares love to an onion. The use of strong imagery, powerful diction, distinct form and structure and various poetic devices (such as extended metaphors), enables the poet to present her unique perspective of love contrasting to the stereotypical way love is often thought about. Moreover, Duffy has used a range of verbs to highlight the apparent difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This direct address by Duffy for her readers makes her appear bold and confident. Similar to the third stanza, the connotations of the onion are used throughout this stanza without mentioning the onion. At this point, Duffy has progressed the relationship to the degree of marriage. She highlights ironic similarities when she writes about how it platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring , which makes little sense as platinum is a very expensive metal while the onion is not precious or desirable at all. The verb shrink may symbolise some sort of entrapment. If you like is almost like asking the recipient for his/her will and perhaps suggesting that the relationship could go in this direction but it is not necessary for the things that will inevitably follow. As the end of the poem progresses, Duddy begins to suggest that failed relationships can be difficult to overcome. She goes as far as to state that love may be lethal which implies that the loss of a lover can cause some part of a person to die or perhaps more sinisterly that it may result in suicide. This also puts emphasis on danger and commitment in love and may refer to the increasing danger of getting more deeply committed to a relationship. Therefore, the more one is committed, the harder (or more lethal ) the fall is, when it ends. The scent of the onion is a symbol of the thoughts and emotions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dictatorship of Big Brother and the American government, both use similar ways to monitor their citizens, but they have different reasons for it. Big Brother wants to closely monitor his citizens so they are obedient by fear and the American government watches their citizens to protect them and their rights. They do this through televisions, spies and surveillance cameras. In the beginning of the novel 1984, the reader is introduced to how the government under the dictatorship of Big Brother is administrated as well as how it runs its citizens. Not only are the people of Oceania suppressed, but they are also audited through whatever means deemed necessary by the government. They are even watched through their televisions. Because of this the main character, Winston Smith, placed his television on a wall in his house so Winston was able to remain outside the range of the telescreen, so far as sight went. This is where Winston writes his qualms with the government down in a diary. Furthermore, the CIA, has been said to have the capacity to break into our everyday consumer electronics.... • 22. How A Company Needs Help Expand Into New Markets A company needs funds to expand into new markets, while governments need money for everything from infrastructure to social programs. The problem large organizations run into is that they typically need far more money than the average bank can provide. The solution is to raise money by issuing bonds (or other debt instruments) to a public market. Thousands of investors then each lend a portion of the capital needed. Really, a bond is nothing more than a loan for which you are the lender. The organization that sells a bond is known as the issuer. The bond market (also debt market or credit market) is a financial market where participants can issue new debt, known as the primary market, or buy and sell debt securities, known as the secondary market. This is usually in the form of bonds, but it may include notes, bills. A bond s price fluctuates throughout its life in response to a number of variables. When a bond trades at a price above the face value, it is said to be selling at a premium. When a bond sells below face value, it is said to be selling at a discount. The coupon is the amount the bondholder will receive as interest payments. It s called a coupon because sometimes there are physical coupons on the bond that you tear off and redeem for interest. However, this was more common in the past. Nowadays, records are more likely to be kept electronically. The maturity date is the date in the future on which the investor s principal will be repaid. However even if we don t think about it, it doesn t make it any less of a fact. In the book 1984 the government s main objective is to gain control of the population by shaping the way they think. Some of these very voluntary techniques such as hypnotism are quite different from the ones in 1984. However many organizations such as the marines use mind control in a semi involuntary way. They are expected to lose their individuality, always act as they are told, and change their way of thinking. These techniques can also be used in religious organizations to gain a fully committed following. All of these unnerving real life examples raise questions of whether people actually have full control over their own minds. Yet it often fails. The communication occurring between two people as discussed in the statement above is known by academics as interpersonal communication . Interpersonal communication can be defined as a two way, transactional process in which two people, occupying a shared space, continue to send information to each other and receive information from each simultaneously. Verbal and non verbal messages expressed by should ideally have congruency, meaning they complement each other (DeVito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Incongruent verbal and non verbal messages often lead to confusion in the receiver, hindering successful reception and comprehension of the information being communicated and therefore resulting in a failure in the communication process (Devito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Hence, congruent verbal and non verbal messages encoded and communicated by sender will also aid in reducing the likeliness of communication failure. It has been suggested that a failure or breakdown in the interpersonal communication process can be further reduced if both the sender and receiver possess satisfactory levels of what is termed emotional intelligence (Goleman, 1998; Lynn, 2002). Emotional intelligence may be defined as a person s ability to recognise, control and evaluate their own feelings and emotions as well as the feelings and emotions of others (Goleman, 1998). Goleman (1998) states that emotional Intelligence is made up of five elements, these being: self awareness, self regulation, self motivation, empathy, and the possession of social skills. An early example of a spy novel is by an American novelist James Fenimore Cooper; The spy (1821) and The Bravo (1831). Spy fiction would mostly be influenced by events that have occurred in the real world such as, the Cold War, which will be discussed in this essay and how it became to influence the writing of spy fiction and how it built its popularity in the literature world. The Cold War emerged in 1946 due to the tension between the western powers (USA, UK, Europe and Canada) and the Soviet Union, which included the Russian communist. Shortly after the Second World War ended, the Soviet Union refused to remove its forces in areas of Europe that they have taken over during the war. This caused the crisis of the Cuban Missile Crisis and Berlin wall, being just some of the issue raised at that time. The Soviet Union broke up in 1991. The most enduring motif about the Cold War is the storytelling about spies, agent and assassins living a double life that included secrecy so they could infiltrate their enemies. The US and USSR spent a large amount of time and money to train spies and agents during the Cold War to deploy them around the world. • 41. The Influences of NiccolĂČ Machiavelli’s The Prince on... Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his highway to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for him up until his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from NiccolĂČ Machiavelli s The Prince, which is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling. Richard followed Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but he failed to heed one of his warnings: he made himself unpopular. Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King already having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother s children would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering family and children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he had done was a damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for him to ascend the throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was a threat to his kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that didn t belong to him, he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. He warned the Prince that the deed might anger God, but implied that there was no other way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benfield s interactions with the commissioners in the past came when he was associate director of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. Since Steve Slack s retirement, Benfield is now director of Ohio State University s Wooster campus and wanted to schedule a formal meeting. Benfield, joined by Associate Director Rhonda Billman, BioHio Research Park President Shauna Brummet and Brian Gwin, who handles special projects for Benfield s office, updated commissioners Jim Carmichael, Ann Obrecht and Scott Wiggam about upcoming changes for OARDC and the Agricultural Technical Institute. There could be reduction in personnel over time due to attrition, but Billman said there has really not been a reduction in workers. With the changes, Billman said the university is looking to find some economies of scale and efficiencies. OARDC and ATI each had their own facility crews and land crews. We re working toward a one team crew, Benfield said. Additionally, the two entities also have their own equipment. Money can be saved in this area, as well as in insurance. As the transition moves forward, there are still some questions about who will become dean of the college. Hendrick is leaving for Michigan State University. McPheron is being considered for the provost position; if he does not get appointed permanently to the position, then returning as dean is a possibility. A permanent associate dean of research and graduation will likely not be named until a permanent dean is in place. All of this could take up to 18 months or more. Our goal is to forge ahead; we re not going to let that slow us down, Benfield said. The research is continuing. We are not worrying about who s in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Methyl Red, Microbiology Laboratory Theory And... The Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth is a combination medium that contains peptone, glucose, and a phosphate buffer that produce proteins, fermentable carbohydrates, and a consistent pH level (Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory Theory and Application). The Methyl Red test uses the Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth to determine if an organism produces stable or unstable acid by performing a mixed acid fermentation of glucose. If an organism produces a stable acid, it is positive for executing the mixed acid fermentation which then lowers the pH level in the broth to 4.4 and turns it red. Unstable acids convert to neutral products and the broth will stay yellow or turn orange, both indicate a negative mixed acid fermentation (Leboffe, Microbiology Laboratory Theory and Application). Two of the four bacteria used had red broth indicating positive test results for mixed acid fermentation with glucose, they were Escherichia coli and Proteus vulgaris, my known bacteria. The other two bacteria, Alcaligenes faecalis and Enterobacter aerogenes, and unknown bacteria D were negative for mixed acid fermentation. Based on these test results, my unknown could be Alcaligenes faecalis or Enterobacter aerogenes. The Voges Proskauer test used the Methyl Red and Voges Proskauer broth to determine if an organism produces acetoin after the degrading of glucose during a 2,3 butanediol fermentation (Leboffe, A Photographic Atlas for the Microbiology Laboratory). • 50. Phonological Perspectives On Language Development Language development can be defined as how children improve their language skills during their childhood. This topic has resulted in many disagreements between language experts. The disagreement is whether genetic or environment effects our development. This is referred as the nature and nurture conflict. Nature is the characteristics we inherit through our genes (McLeod, 2016). Nurture is the influence of external factors (McLeod, 2016). Language experts have different views on how children develop their language. There are six theoretical perspectives on language acquisition, these are behavioural, nativist, maturational, cognitive development, social interactionist and neurobiological perspectives. When children are 8 18 months they say their first words, there is a variation because of environmental influences and genetic. They comprehend the meaning of around 10,000 words by the age of six (Berk, 2013, p. 376). According to social interactionist perspective children s nature and their language and social worlds influences how quick and how much their early language develops (Fellowes and Oakley, 2014, p. 51). Studies illustrates girls early vocabulary growth is ahead of boys. The biological explanation for this is that girls mature faster physically, which develops the cerebral hemisphere of girls earlier (Berk, 2013, 377). Children s language development does not occur by maturity only. Adults play a major role in children s semantic development. Children who are not getting enough quality parent child interaction have a lower vocabulary, as the amount of vocabulary they learn is due to their literacy experiences at home. Children s first words are words that are familiar to them typically include people, objects that move, foods, animals, familiar actions, outcomes of such actions and social terms (Berk, 2013, p. 376). Therefore social support is critical in order to help in the child s language development, according to Bruner s concept of a language acquisition support system (LASS) (Fellowes and Oakley, 2014).
