Extended Definition Essay Examples
Extended Definition Essay: Defining the Concept of Abstract Art should comfort the disturbed and
disturb the comfortable. is a popular quote adapted by the street artist known as Bansky to specifically
talk about art. It is especially true of abstract art, which oftentimes depicts events that can be
uncomfortable to discuss or is confusing. If something is abstract, then it is something that is not
clearly defined, or not typically thought of as normal or realistic, and it can be difficult to understand.
If something is abstract, then it is not normal, realistic, clear or easily understandable. The word
abstract is derived from the Latin word abstractus meaning drawn away. So, the word abstract literally
means drawn away from reality.

Personal Philosophy Fatalism
1. What was the most significant learning within the themes presented this week?
The most significant learning within the themes this week is fatalism. It was interesting because
before I read the text I used to think that most things in life are pre determined. fatalism was similar to
my philosophy. I believe everything is pre determined, and mental things are able to be control. I think
we can change the process, but the result would be the same.
2. How has this learning affected your personal philosophy?
It did not affected my personal philosophy because most of things are the same as my belief system.
In my personal philosophy, everything in my life are pre determined. For example, The place I live,

The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir Essay
The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
In the chapter of her book The Second Sex entitled the Woman in Love, Simone de Beauvoir
characterizes the romantic ideal of the relationship with a man as a woman s purpose as a form of self
deception (translated here as bad faith ). The self deception de Beauvoir describes is based in the
thesis of The Second Sex. This is the idea that women have been deceived into believing that they are
second class humans. Western culture, according to de Beauvoir, teaches us that women are missing
some elusive element of the self that endows men with freedom a concept essential to the existentialist
definition of the conscious being. Therefore, a woman can never find fulfillment as a thinking person
as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
653. This is the same mindset that Sartre applies to the anti Semite the refusal to consider the
complexity of the world in favor of a system that provides easy answers to all life s questions. Only,
unlike the anti Semite, the woman is turning her hatred inward; does she hate herself because she fears
freedom or because she feels she is not worthy of it? De Beauvoir seems to believe that fear is the
primary cause for this willing dependency. She cites the psychoanalytic view that women s obsession
with love does not comes from a desire for men at all, but from a desire to return to the secure
dependency of childhood. This explains the lifelong refuge some women take in infantile ( cute )
behavior and appearance, but psychoanalytic explanations for human behavior have proven to be far
less than perfect, and a woman s self worth (or, in this case, lack thereof) has far more complex roots
than a Freudian theorem.
What is sure is that the female ideal of love assumes a place of greater importance in the psyche than
the libido alone. The quest for absolute communion with the beloved assumes a mystical element that
is similar in many ways to religious devotion, as de Beauvoir explains. (The lack of belief in God
makes this attitude even more contemptible from an existentialist point of view.) The religious woman
and the romantic woman cope with their self loathing in the same way: in both

Similarities Between Easter And Greek Easter
Come every April, I would throw on my clothes and run out to our Dolmades tree to pick leaves to
prepare for our traditional dinner. My grandfather grew up in Sparta Greece. He grew up celebrating a
different occasion that most people do not. Most families across the world, celebrate a tradition known
as Easter. The whole family comes over, turkey and mashed potatoes are spread out all over the table,
and you re waiting for the moment your mom tells you that it s time to eat. However, my family is
different. Instead of celebrating Easter we celebrate Greek Easter. Both are quite similar in ways but
have very different traditional values and most importantly, food.
Initially, my grandfather would celebrate Greek Easter when he was a child and then brought the
tradition to my family. However, the food prepared wasn t easily accessible to him when he was a
child. Growing up in Greece, food and money were scarce. To add, he grew up during World War I,
soldiers would scavenge through his village frequently. Roaming house to house taking any supplies
and food they could get their hands on. With that being said, in order to celebrate Greek Easter, he had
to find leaves, rice, and all the essential needs to prepare the food. Walking through town barefoot, he
would only find limited supplies to make the food. Like Jonathan Safran Foer said in Storytelling In
the forests of Europe, she ate to stay alive until the next opportunity to eat to stay alive again. In

Suspense In The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Everyone off us has stayed up all night at the edge of our bed waiting to find out what will happen
next; 83.3% of all Americans have have done this. Suspense is any time a person is craving to know
what will happen next. Authors use various elements such as cliffhanger, delayed answers ,and many
more to create suspense. Elements are important if a author wants a successful suspenseful story.
However, setting and delayed answers are necessary for the development of a successful suspenseful
story. One important element, setting is necessary for the development of a successful suspenseful
story. In The Hound of the Baskervilles Arthur Conan Doyle used the moor to create suspense he says,
behind the peaceful and sunlit countryside the long, gloomy curve of the moor broken by the jagged
and sinister hills. Doyle uses word such as gloomy and sinister to create suspense. They create
suspense because off there meaning of evil and depression. In The ... Show more content on

In The Hound of the Baskervilles Doyle has a question in the starting of the, how and who killed Sir
Charles. This question was delayed until the end. It was then figured during a dialogue, Stapleton was
with me when I heard It last... No, no he was with a hound. The question of who and how Sir Charles
died is what the story is based upon, and the author doesn t reveal the answer till the end. The delaying
of questions causes the reader wanting to know the answer ,and causes suspense in the reader. Another
example is the The Monkey s Paw when the characters question if the monkey s paw is real, the
wishes will turn out to come true. They ask Monkeys Paw? Said Mrs White curiously and later
wonders, Has anybody else wished a true wish. The characters and readers both shared the feelings of
mystery and curiosity. The author uses this to his advantage by not relieving the answer till the end to

Is Reconstruction Better Continuity Or Change Essay
Is Reconstruction better characterized as an era of continuity or change? Section 1: Introduction After
the Civil War, America had many problems to solve. With many dead, the south in open rebellion, and
over 3 million slaves freed, America was destined to change in many ways. Change occurs when there
is variance is political, economic, and social systems. Reconstruction is characterized as an era of
change due the immense changes that occurred politically, economically, and socially. Section 2: Body

the wave of social outspokenness that occured. After the civil war, there was an increased wave of

Many argue that the practice of sharecropping was just a continuation of slavery. Oftentimes,
conditions were poor and the compensation terms for work were unfair. Due to illiteracy, the
sharecropping contract was not even read by the farmer, begging the question that a contract was
legitimate and that the farmer even agreed to the terms. A sharecropping contract from 1865 reads, we
furthermore bind ourselves that we will obey the orders of Ross in all things in carrying out and
managing the crop. Quotes from contracts like this one begs the question, was sharecropping really
that different from slavery? People also argue that racism from pre Civil War America was the same as
racism during reconstruction. Racism was even used as a political tactic by some during
Reconstruction. In Democratic party campaign speech, a candidate for Alabama governor proclaims,
social ostracism of all those who act, sympathize or side with the negro party, or who support or

The United States Senate voted eighty two to six to go to war against Germany. World War I started in
1914. President Woodrow Wilson was a fan of French and English history, but he still signed a pledge,
that stated America s neutrality. American corporations were already selling military weapons to both
sides of the war. Sadly, President Wilson did not take action against this. At this point in time, America
and Great Britain were the best of trading partners. Germany was not happy with his arrangement.
Germany quickly surrounded Great Britain. Germany sunk and shot down many of America s ships.

Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation
Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom
of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same
number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons
and neutrons in this atom creates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same
mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of
carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains
more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a
radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutron in the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be
referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the
energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This
energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in
our everyday lives. Radiation has quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine.
One aspect of medicine that has been greatly affected by the discovery and ... Show more content on

Nuclear fusion occurs in the nucleuses of two elements that have somewhat light masses. The
nucleuses of these two elements are brought together at extremely high speeds to ultimately create the
new nucleus of a new element. Very few radioactive particles are created through this process, it also
mostly takes place in the stars. Where as in nuclear fission, the nucleus of a heavy atom is split into
two smaller nuclei. During this process the loss of neutrons releases energy in the form of gamma
rays. This process rarely occurs in nature due to the force require to split an

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot and The Theater of...
With the appearance of Waiting for Godot at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris in 1953, the literary
world was shaken by the arrival of a drama so different yet so thrilling that it gave rise to the Theater
of the Absurd . His contribution to this particular type of theater movement allows us to refer to him as
the father of the genre. While other dramatists, such as Tom Stoppard, have also contributed to this
genre, Beckett remains its single, most lofty figure. It is this type of theater that deals with the absurd
aspects of life, to stress upon its native meaninglessness. It is the time and identity of characters that
are usually vague or ambiguous in such plays from the theater of absurd. The plays are dreamy and

This shows us as to how there is a series of events taking place and both, Estragon and Vladimir go
through an endless string of days waiting for someone who they have no idea about Godot. Even
though there was a messenger boy through whom Godot apparently sent across messages to Estragon
and Vladimir, they never seemed to receive it. In the first act, the messenger boy arrives to tell the two
stranded men that Godot will not arrive that night but will surely be before them the next night.
The play merely focuses on time and how Vladimir and Estragon wait for no apparent reason even
though they know Godot isn t going to come. These meaningless arguments and waiting is all they are
ever portrayed doing, repetitively contemplating leaving the place or leaving life for that matter
hanging themselves on the tree and committing suicide. This makes it seem like as though the
characters are stuck, and have no way out of the situation. Thoughts of leaving the place always get
ignored as they once again go back to the beginning hoping that Godot will arrive. This is because
they are afraid that something might go wrong if they stop this waiting which is indeed a significant,
day to day component of human existence.
As the first act comes to an end, the characters of Pozzo and his beloved dog Lucky are introduced
and join Estragon and Vladimir. These two characters intrude the format of how Vladimir and

b. Internal audit
Internal environment includes factors that can be controlled by the company such as management,
production, finance, accounting, supply of materials, marketing, public relations (PR), human
resources, information systems, etc. Analyzing these factors helps businesses identify strengths,
weaknesses, then finding out the appropriate strategy. Marketing strategies, marketing systems,
marketing organization, marketing function and marketing productivity are included in the internal
audit.
Marketing strategy audit is about the marketing objectives of Kinh Do and how it relate to overall
objectives. It also concerned about whether Kinh Do has enough resources to achieved these
objectives or not. Marketing systems mentions the procedures for formulating marketing plans and
management control. The structural capability to implement the plan is belonged to marketing
organization. Marketing function is a review of the effectiveness of each element of the mix. The last
area in marketing audit is marketing productivity about how profitable and cost effective the
marketing program is. Kinh Do should use some techniques such as value chain, marketing mix or

After watching the pilot episode of WKRP it is clear to see that, while very funny, there are many
complications coming with the new changes to the station. In first scene of the series we begin the
complications examples with a situation of ongoing possibility of sexual harassment. Herb walks into
the office from lunch and begins to make standard small talk with Jennifer. As the conversation goes
on he begins to pose more risqué questions implying a date. While these questions seem like innocent
play between co workers the possibility for a sexual harassment issue to rise will no doubt become
higher if Herb isn t able to take the hint. The second example is the very apparent dilemma occurring
throughout the episode: the format change.

An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s Poem, To My Dear and...
The poem To my Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet, is not just an exceedingly felt
expression of a wife s marital love and commitment to her husband, as it is about a puritan women
who is supposed to be reserved but she makes it her obligation to enlighten her husband of her
devotion. A thorough analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals how
she conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings are for her
husband. Bradstreet shows this by the use of a great example of a paradox, if two were one, then
surely we. This shows that the magnitude of her love and affection is so deep that she s comparing two
beings as one. She praises her love for her husband so much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I m really surprised to learn that this was not common back for puritan women back then. In my
opinion, the author is very open about how she feels about her husband. You can tell that throughout
the poem she is repeating herself and stressing on the same idea over and over again. She praises,
adores, and loves her husband and is taking an initiative to show it by writing this letter to him. It s
interesting how she began the poem by using the word ever in the first two lines and how she ended it
with the same word on line 12. Then while we live, in love lets so persevere That when we live no
more, we may live ever. I would like to end my analysis of this poem by stating a paradox that can be
found at the end of the poem in lines 11 12. Her love for her husband is on such a level that she wants
to preserve it while they live and even after they die. It s amazing to me how much love one can have
for a person. The poem s main idea is not just centralized on how much Bradstreet loves her husband,
but also on a Puritan woman who takes the initiative to show her love to her husband which was very
uncommon back

Daphne, A Naiad-Nymph Of The River Peneus
Daphne was a Naiad Nymph of the river Peneus in Thessalia and the daughter of the river god Peneus.
Nymphs were female spirits of the natural world and crafters of nature s beauty, from the growing of
the trees and flowers to the formation of wetlands, brooks, grottos, and springs. (Atsma) Her father,
the river god Peneus, was tried several times because Daphne would not accept any of the handsome,
eligible young men who wanted her. Her father would scold her by saying, Am I never going to have a
grandson? which Daphne would answer with Father, dearest, let me be like Diana. . (Hamilton 119)
Her father would surrender from these conversations and let her off into the woods, which she had the
freedom to do what she desired. Daphne became like Diana, also known as Artemis, by living as a
perpetual virgin and a wild huntress. Daphne is said to have been Apollo s first love, but it turned out
to be a one sided love.
One day, Eros, the god of love, was taunted by Apollo, the god of prophecy, when he told Eros to
leave bows and arrows to those who were more capable of using them after he defeated Python.
(L.Roman and M.Roman 130) Eros wanted revenge and decided to shoot Apollo and Daphne with
arrows that had opposite reactions. Apollo was struck with a gold tipped arrow that made him fall in
love with whoever he set his eyes on while Daphne was hit by a lead tipped arrow that made her
become even more uninterested in any man she had ever seen. (Cotterell 32) When Apollo saw

The Ethics of Xenotransplantation
1. Introduction to Xenotransplantation
Xenotransplantation is the process of taking cells, parts of organs, or even whole organs from one
species of animal, and implanting them into another species. The FDA has given their own definition
of xenotransplantation which they say is any procedure that involves the transplantation, implantation,
or infusion into a human recipient of either live cells, tissues, or organs from a non human animal
source, or human body fluids, cells, tissues or organs that have had ex vivo contact with live non
human animal cells, tissues or organs. The main interest of the practice is to be able to take organs

Also, in 1999, UNOS reported that 6125 people died while on the waiting list to receive a transplat

3. Professional Issues
One of the professional issues associated with xenotransplantation is that doctors may be more likely
to take risks when it comes to the research and experimentation of xenotransplantation in hopes of
attaining fame and notoriety. All medical doctors are required to take the Hippocratic Oath before they
are given license to practice, which they may violate in their rush for fame in the pioneering of this
new medical process. Doctors have certain responsibilities for the safety and health of their patients.

One legal issue could be that researchers must take care not to violate the laws against cruelty to and

xenotransplantation, there could be legal ramifications for the doctors who performed the suspected
operation(s), as well as the companies in whose facilities the operation(s) was/(were) performed. To

Election Day Rises And The Electoral College System
As election day rises, so does significant questions surrounding the Electoral College system. Mainly
the subject of whether or not to disband the system will again be a hot topic amongst voters and
legislatures. The question that remains in the minds of the everyday voter is if their vote actually
counts toward appointing a President when a system such as the Electoral College is in place.
Nevertheless, before forming an opinion on the matter it is important that one consider what the
Electoral College actually is and how it functions, furthermore understanding why the framers of the
Constitution thought it necessary to create this system. To properly form an opinion, avenues of critics
and supporters must both be explored. Only through this considerable amount of information gathered
can you take a stance on the topic. Rooted in Article II section I of the constitution, the electoral
college is a system put in place to delegate the Presidency. The Electors that comprise the electoral
college are 435 House of representative members 100 senators along with 3 electors appointed from

The Proposal ¸ Directed By Anne Fletcher Essay
One of my personal all time favorite movies, The Proposal¸ directed by Anne Fletcher, is a
drama/romance that illustrates two people who weren t meant to fall in love (Lieberman, 2009). The
following movie trailer assists in outlining the storyline of the movie and how a series of unforeseen
events can change animosity into romantic love.
From the beginning of the movie, Andrew and Margaret had a work relationship that embodied
intimacy. Intimacy, as defined by Kyle Hill, is [f]eelings of attachment, closeness, typified by sharing
secrets, etc. (Hill, 2012, May 18). The intimacy shared between Margaret and Andrew is due to the
nature of their career; they had spent [a]ll those late nights at the office and weekend book fairs
(Lieberman, 2009). As Margaret s assistant, Andrew handles some, if not most, of her personal and
private matters like the midnight Tampax runs and her appointments, Two years ago, your
dermatologist called and asked about a Q switched laser (Lieberman, 2009). Their work relationship
created an intimacy that typically is nonexistent between two coworkers or an employee and their
boss.
As the movie progressed, their relationship took on another component; commitment. Commitment, as
defined In The Triangular Theory of Love, is [a] willingness in the short term to create and maintain a
relationship and long term plans to sustain the relationship (Hill, 2012, May 18). The commitment
exhibited between Margaret and Andrew is not the

Having Parents That Only Care About Your Schooling And...
Having parents that only care about your schooling and social image would be the worst. As a little
girl, I grew up in a crazy and chaotic family. My parents treated me very well. I wasn t told that I had
to be perfect and they let me become the person I am today. Because I am the baby of the family, my
parents are far more lenient with me than they were with my older siblings. Just like so many other
parents who have been worn out from parenting teens, they have set fewer rules for me to follow and
rarely check up on me.
My dad was always the type of person to misbehave with me before I went to bed, ultimately, making
me not so tired anymore He would always wrestle with me and make me laugh whenever I didn t want
to and he still does. Whenever I would get in a wreck with my bike or accidentally fall down, he

Primary Heating Water Circuit At The Generators
Primary Cooling Water Circuit In The Generators :
The treated water used for cooling of the stator winding, phase connectors and bushings is designated
as primary water in order to distinguish it from the secondary coolant (raw water, condensator etc.).
The primary water is circulated in a closed circuit and dissipates the absorbed heat to the secondary
cooling in the primary water cooler. The pump is supplied with in primary water cooler. The pump is
supplied with in the primary water tank and delivers the water to the generator via the following flow
paths:
Flow path I :
Flow path I cools the stator winding. This flow path passes through water manifold on the exciter end
of the generator and from there to the stator bars via insulated bar is connected to the manifold by a
separate hose. Inside the bars the cooling water flows through hollow strands. At the turbine end, the
water is passed through the similar hoses to another water manifold and then return to the primary
water tank. Since a single pass water flow through the stator is used, only a minimum temperature rise
is obtained for both the coolant and the bars. Relatively movements due to the different thermal
expansions between the top and the bottom bars are thus minimized.

Comparing Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers
Compare and Contrast Essay
Susan Glaspell lived from 1876 1948. She was the cofounder of the first modern American theater
company called the Provincetown Players, along with having been a pulitzer prize winning
playwright, an actress, a novelist, and a journalist, so she was kind of a jack of all trades, meaning she
had many different talents or skills. Glaspell was raised in Iowa, and therefore she set place many of
her pieces of writing in the state of Iowa. Trifles is a one act play that is based on a murder trial that
Glaspell covered as a young reporter. A Jury of Her Peers is the short story version of this famous
play. There are several similarities and differences between the play Trifles and the short story A Jury
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I stated above, Trifles only gives the reader or viewer knowledge from the outside looking in. The
short story A Jury of Her Peers doesn t give the reader first person feelings and experiences, however,
the narrator of the story does give the reader any thoughts or feelings of the characters that may be
needed to better understand the story. The narrator is an important part in the change between the play
and the story. The narrator gives us information about each family, how people are related, what things
look like, what the weather is like, and many more small details that we would not have known
otherwise. For example, when arriving at the Wright house, the narrator says It looked very lonesome
on this cold March morning. This short sentence gives the reader so much information that we don t
know about in the play. We now know that it is in the morning when they are going to examine the
situation, and that its in March, so it s kind of cold still coming out of winter. We also know that the
Wright house looks lonely. This picture that the narrator puts in the readers head is one that sets the
tone for the whole story. One that we don t fully get until halfway through

Electric Hybrid Energy Storage Systems
Abstraction
The energy storage technology is quite important for electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles
due to requirement of more power and more efficient with minor compromise on weight and volume.
The challenge for developing more advanced energy storage system is capacity or energy density and
specific power cannot be achieved at the same time. More specific power means less energy density,
and vice versa. The supercapacitor Li ion hybrid energy storage system has both advantages of these
two kinds of energy storage technology. It has high energy density as well as high specific power. The
paper will introduce about this hybrid energy storage system, discuss about its advantages and
drawbacks, and compare this system with other kinds of energy storage systems.
Keywords: Supercapacitor, Lithium ion battery, hybrid energy storage system 1. Introduction
Currently, electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles attract more and more people s attention.
The benefits of electric hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles are less fuel cost, less emissions,
less maintenance etc. But there are still many drawbacks such as higher price, less space in electric
hybrid vehicles, require recharging everyday on plug in hybrids and pure electric vehicles, limited
mileage per recharging in pure electric vehicles etc. There are many engineering challenges along with
these drawbacks. One of them is energy storage technology. In recent electrified automotive markets,

Avoid Stereotypes In Hollywood
Hi Thang,
I like this because I support you about giving benefits for Hollywood such as awakening audience s
awareness about real image of the ethnic groups, producing chances for foreign actors, and raising a
lot of profits if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping
ethnic characters.
Base 1: Unity
1. Is there a clearly stated thesis in the introductory paragraph? Yes, you mentioned a clear thesis
statement at the end of the first paragraph, Hollywood writers and directors should have a social
responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters because it can help audience aware of the true
nature of ethnic groups, create more opportunity for foreign actors, and increase the profits for
Hollywood.

I knew more about benefits as well as positives for Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors
have a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes. I used negatives of Hollywood in my essay, so I
could enjoy a new whiff of the wind in your essay.
Base 2: Support
1. Is there specific evidence? Yes, there was specific evidence that supported to giving benefits for
Hollywood.
2. Is there plenty of it? Yes, the evidence was very clear and helped the readers know the benefits of
Hollywood if Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotypes.
My comments: I liked your sentence that you wrote in the third paragraph, Hollywood directors do not
give lead roles for Asian actors because they are fearing that Americans do not accept an Asian face on
the silver screen, not because there are not many talented Asian or their wage levels are too high
which is basically due to the fact that existed for more than half a century. Hollywood directors had
discrimination about color actors and did not acknowledge their talent for a long time, so it leads to
stereotyping ethnic characters.

Refuge Searchers Essay
We, as a country, have apologized, however a statement of regret can t fix the wrong that was finished.
Or maybe, a statement of regret is an assertion of sense of duty regarding guarantee that the errors of
the past never reemerge. Unfortunately, these are unfilled words if there are no activities to back them
up; more terrible yet, in the event that our activities as a country repudiate what we say. The 2013
government race focussed vigorously on the issue of refuge searchers, specifically the individuals who
traveled by vessel. Individuals escaping war and abuse frequently embrace urgent measures in quest
for a protected and cheerful life for themselves and their families. This incorporates making unsafe
excursions via ocean in ineffectively looked after vessels, regularly without satisfactory lifesaving

If something is abstract, then it is something that is not clearly defined, or not typically thought of as normal or realistic, and it can be difficult to understand. If something is abstract, then it is not normal, realistic, clear or easily understandable. The word abstract is derived from the Latin word abstractus meaning drawn away. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir Essay The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir In the chapter of her book The Second Sex entitled the Woman in Love, Simone de Beauvoir characterizes the romantic ideal of the relationship with a man as a woman s purpose as a form of self deception (translated here as bad faith ). The self deception de Beauvoir describes is based in the thesis of The Second Sex. This is the idea that women have been deceived into believing that they are second class humans. Western culture, according to de Beauvoir, teaches us that women are missing some elusive element of the self that endows men with freedom a concept essential to the existentialist definition of the conscious being. Therefore, a woman can never find fulfillment as a thinking person as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 653. This is the same mindset that Sartre applies to the anti Semite the refusal to consider the complexity of the world in favor of a system that provides easy answers to all life s questions. Only, unlike the anti Semite, the woman is turning her hatred inward; does she hate herself because she fears freedom or because she feels she is not worthy of it? De Beauvoir seems to believe that fear is the primary cause for this willing dependency. She cites the psychoanalytic view that women s obsession with love does not comes from a desire for men at all, but from a desire to return to the secure dependency of childhood. This explains the lifelong refuge some women take in infantile ( cute ) behavior and appearance, but psychoanalytic explanations for human behavior have proven to be far less than perfect, and a woman s self worth (or, in this case, lack thereof) has far more complex roots than a Freudian theorem. What is sure is that the female ideal of love assumes a place of greater importance in the psyche than the libido alone. The quest for absolute communion with the beloved assumes a mystical element that is similar in many ways to religious devotion, as de Beauvoir explains. (The lack of belief in God makes this attitude even more contemptible from an existentialist point of view.) The religious woman and the romantic woman cope with their self loathing in the same way: in both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My grandfather grew up in Sparta Greece. He grew up celebrating a different occasion that most people do not. Most families across the world, celebrate a tradition known as Easter. The whole family comes over, turkey and mashed potatoes are spread out all over the table, and you re waiting for the moment your mom tells you that it s time to eat. However, my family is different. Instead of celebrating Easter we celebrate Greek Easter. Both are quite similar in ways but have very different traditional values and most importantly, food. Initially, my grandfather would celebrate Greek Easter when he was a child and then brought the tradition to my family. However, the food prepared wasn t easily accessible to him when he was a child. Growing up in Greece, food and money were scarce. To add, he grew up during World War I, soldiers would scavenge through his village frequently. Roaming house to house taking any supplies and food they could get their hands on. With that being said, in order to celebrate Greek Easter, he had to find leaves, rice, and all the essential needs to prepare the food. Walking through town barefoot, he would only find limited supplies to make the food. • 11. Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons and neutrons in this atom creates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutron in the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in our everyday lives. Radiation has quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine. One aspect of medicine that has been greatly affected by the discovery and ... With the appearance of Waiting for Godot at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris in 1953, the literary world was shaken by the arrival of a drama so different yet so thrilling that it gave rise to the Theater of the Absurd . His contribution to this particular type of theater movement allows us to refer to him as the father of the genre. While other dramatists, such as Tom Stoppard, have also contributed to this genre, Beckett remains its single, most lofty figure. It is this type of theater that deals with the absurd aspects of life, to stress upon its native meaninglessness. Even though there was a messenger boy through whom Godot apparently sent across messages to Estragon and Vladimir, they never seemed to receive it. In the first act, the messenger boy arrives to tell the two stranded men that Godot will not arrive that night but will surely be before them the next night. The play merely focuses on time and how Vladimir and Estragon wait for no apparent reason even though they know Godot isn t going to come. These meaningless arguments and waiting is all they are ever portrayed doing, repetitively contemplating leaving the place or leaving life for that matter hanging themselves on the tree and committing suicide. This makes it seem like as though the characters are stuck, and have no way out of the situation. Thoughts of leaving the place always get ignored as they once again go back to the beginning hoping that Godot will arrive. This is because they are afraid that something might go wrong if they stop this waiting which is indeed a significant, day to day component of human existence.
