The Destructive Nature Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 By...
Technology is both a miracle and a disaster in society today. New improvements have allowed
children to be safer physically now more than ever, allowing parents to know where they are 24/7.
However, studies have been shown that their mental state is in decline the addiction to devices is
driving a separation between teens and their friends, forcing them into a deep depression,
subsequently provoking a rise in self harm rates. Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451 written in
1953, gives us a glimpse into the future in order to display the screen obsessed and censorship filled
society in which the main character, Montag lives. Bradbury was able to predict technological
advancements and their destructive effects on future civilization including screen addiction, loss of
personal connections, and the depersonalization of war.
The author, Ray Bradbury, was able to predict the destructive nature of technology today, by
exploiting the screen addicted characters within his novel. One character that perfectly conveys a clear
obsession with technology is Mildred. She spends her days entranced in the pretty colors of her 3
walled television; she still yearns for more by asking her husband for another screen and justifies
herself by saying, It s only two thousand dollars...If we had a fourth wall, why it d be just like this
room wasn t ours at all, but all kinds of exotic people s rooms. (18). Mildred greatly shows her
obsession with screens in this quote. She is willing to use

Optic White In The Liberty Paint White
The narrator experiences all the power that white structure holds when he goes into the Liberty Paints
factory. It is said that the most popular paint color, Optic White, is manufactured at Liberty Paints and
that their paint is well known for painting national monuments. Optic White is made to be so white
you can paint a chunka coal and you d have to crack it open with a sledge hammer to prove it wasn t
white clear through (217). Similarly like the white blindfold, the Optic White symbolizes the white
power structure. The paint is able to cover any flaws just like the white men as they try to condone the
black men and prevent them from progressing. The narrator learns from Kimbro that the white paint is
made by dropping ten drops of black graduate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when added the incorrect amounts of black graduate, the white paint becomes a gray tinge
glowed through the whiteness (205). The narrator learns that it is not completely impossible for a
black man to have a say and be a part of the white power structure. Furthermore, the narrator meets
Lucius Brockway, the black man who manages mixing the paints and pressure regulations on the
boiler. Brockway has a lot of pride in his job and is extremely cautious around people who are trying
to steal his job. When Brockway meets the narrator, he threatens the narrator that The Old Man hired
me, nobody else; and, by God, it ll take the old man to fire me (209). Brockway s job represents how
the white power structure conformed him into becoming someone who could only be expressed

The Science Of The Earth Essay
Introduction
The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth science among
others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses
holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with
lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed by
the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics, chronology,
biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.
Deliberations
According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms have
been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is
surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were
witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s
magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity
reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency as
magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of
direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth. Solar

Discuss The Role Of Enzymes In Chemical Digestion
the body. The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by the
brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic ducts
drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the duodenum.
The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and functions
to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the duodenum the
sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the common bile duct into
the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates the bile by re absorbing
water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that emulsify the fats in the
chime. It also contains cholesterol tat can be eliminated from the body. The cholecystokinin is a
hormone secreted from the intestinal mucosa and is triggered by fat in the chime. The CCK causes the
gallbladder to contract and push the stored bile into the ducts leading to duodenum.
20. Discuss the role of enzymes in chemical digestion. Page 517
Chemical digestion consists of numerous chemical reactions catalysed by enzymes in saliva, gastric
juice, pancreatic juice and intestinal juice. During chemical digestion the enzymes very selectively
speed up the breakdown of specific nutrient molecules. For example, the enzymes responsible for
speeding up the breakdown of fats,

Essay about Compare a P and Greasy Lake
John Updike s A P and T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake have many similarities as well as
differences as coming of age stories. A P is about a nineteen year old boy working at a grocery shop
who stands up against the manager trying to defend and impress the girls he is attracted to who are not
decently dressed (Updike 18). Greasy Lake is a story of several nineteen years old youths who play a
prank on a bad character and experience what real bad characters can do. Fortunately, Sammy and the
narrator realize their deficiency – infantility – after their conflict with other people just like the
ancient Greek proverb says, Through suffering comes wisdom (qtd. in Vannatta 1637). In Sammy s
case, enraged that Lengel has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hiding near the lake, the narrator is consternated and his true self – the good side of his character – is
stimulated: He is more shaken by guilt than by fear that Bobby s friends will hurt him. He is, in fact,
later overjoyed to hear the sound of Bobby s voice (Vannatta 1636). He, as well as readers, finds that
even though he call himself bad , deeply within his heart, he has many good personalities (traits?),
such as sympathy for other people (is sympathy a personality?). After he encounters the corpse of the
motorcyclist and experiences what Bobby s friends do with his mother s car, the narrator further more
distinguishes the difference between one s appearance and one s inner self: a truly bad character does
not have a label on his face. At the end of the story, when the young woman says that the three
[teenagers] look like ‘pretty bad characters , the narrator s reaction is hardly one of pride: ‘I thought
I was going to cry (Vannatta 1638). Finally, the narrator completes this significant step towards
maturity. He does not try to act like a bad character any more because he is not born to be bad. All he
wants is to go home and start his new life. Both stories are told in first person from the narrators point
of views which allow reader to discover the immaturity in both protagonists character through their
minds. In A P , there are many places where Updike demonstrates

vibrante de carros, maldiciones, murmullos de alegría y de llantos, formando un gran concierto

birthplace, East Harlem. The diversity of cultures, the vibrant street life, the passion and conflicts of

1998, p. 70) Puerto Ricans could sometimes pass as whites, like Piri s family did. However, Piri was
treated badly by the school, public transportation, workplace and the government. In an interview
conducted by Ilan Stavans, he recalled that in the classroom the teacher came roaring upon me and
said listen, stop talking in that language [Spanish], and I said well, I am speaking my mother s

talking that, you have to learn English, you are in America now. (Thomas, Race and Mercy: A

Great Depression Myths
Great Myths of the Great Depression Throughout history governments that were laissez faire has more
economic prosperity. One cause of the Great Depression was international financial instability. After
World War 1 there was a global economic depression. Britain, France, and Germany were in major
debt to the U.S. Germany had to pay Britain and France reparations for the destruction they caused
there. Germany could not make these payments. To help, the Dawes Committee came up with the
Dawes plan. It was an agreement between Great Britain, France, Germany, and the U.S. In this plan
Germany would pay less in reparations. In return, the U.S. would loan Germany money to help them
pay their reparations. Britain and France agreed to use some of the ... Show more content on

President Hoover passed the Hawley Smoot Tariff Act. This made taxes on imported goods very high.
They thought that by doing this it would make Americans buy in the U.S. which would help with
unemployment. However, if outsiders could not sell their products in the U.S., then they couldn t
make enough money to buy in the U.S. either. This tariff caused farmers to lose ⅓ of their markets.
Another example is when President Franklin Roosevelt passed the Agricultural Adjustment Act
(AAA). This act paid farmers to stop farming. The AAA helped farmers by reducing supply to
increase prices but it hurt millions of people who were paying these prices and people had to deal with
less food. A third example is the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA). This act created the
National Recovery Administration (NRA). Its purpose was to regulate businesses, wages, unions, and
prices. The rules were very complex. They told businesses how to operate. The government talked
with large firms to help write the rules. These rules generally favored the large firms. The problem
was this act created a monopoly, one company dominates the entire industry, which led to even more
unemployment. These are three of the many acts that attempted to recover the economy but in the end
it made things

Darkness Can Be Pure, And Light
Darkness can be pure, and light can be tainted. This is the view with which Conrad expresses his work
in Heart of Darkness. Conrad through his writing demonstrates how light and Darkness does not
always hold rigid values. In Conrad s narrative, the traditional values of light and darkness is not
upheld, it can be seen how light can be used to emphasize evil while Darkness or black can be a sign
of purity. The motif of light and darkness are present throughout.
In his narrative of the ship Marlow refers to Europe as one of the dark places of the earth. In this quote
Darkness is not representative of evil, but instead of the uncivilized state in which Europe used to be
before being brought to the light which can be inferred to represent civilization. For example, when
Marlow refers to the explorers who were men enough to face the darkness it is in reference to
courageous explorers of the past who dare to explore the unknown. Civilized men of the past went on
these expeditions to find wealth and a name for themselves in history. Conrad uses Darkness to
represent the unknown in this context.
Marlow refers to light being like a running blaze on a plain, like a flash of lightning in the clouds. This
quote use light as a simile of life, and of how short it can be. This brings out a characteristic of light;
light does not last. Light although revealing when present does not last darkness is the natural default
in life. The violence in the two simile used

Analysis Of As Good As It Gets
The film As Good As It Gets, reflects on the psychopathologies of three main characters. Marvin
Udall is an obsessive compulsive writer who maintains poor boundaries with those who encounter
him. Simon Bishop is a homosexual artist who struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
about his estranged relationship with his parents and following an attack in his home. Carol Connelly
is a waitress who suffers from anxiety, due to her son having an extreme case of asthma causing him
to have constant medical attention. These random characters lives intersect in such a way, that in the
end they become their greatest support network. Marvin Udall displays typical behaviors that many
functioning obsessive compulsives have in common. Mr. Udall has obsessions which are, persistent
thoughts, urges that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted, whereas compulsions are repetitive
behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession
(American Psychiatric Association., 2013). Very early in the film we see Mr. Udall struggles with
contamination related obsessions and participates in ritualistic activities which serve to lessen his
obsessional anxiety. We see him engage in hand washing rituals with extremely hot water and several
bars of soap which is only intrusive to him, to later in the film where he must take a shower before
dinner and has the character Carol waiting on him for what seemed like hours. Mr. Udall has a ritual to
eat at a certain restaurant everyday for breakfast, where he also must bring his own plastic silverware
for fear of germs.
Mr. Udall shows his compulsive traits by feeling the need to lock his apartment door three times, turns
the lights on and off five times and cannot step on cracks or lines in the flooring or street. These
repetitive behaviors are normally not intrusive to others, but Mr. Udall does involve others in his
compulsion when he is trying not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk. We do not know the exact
rationale behind his compulsions, but many people fear that something bad will happen if they do not
engage in their compulsion.
What is interesting about Mr. Udall is how he did not perceive his quality of life to be

The Reflection Of The Cosmic Lottery
The path one takes to perceiving their faith is essential for it to grow and mature during the walk of
life. Faith is the belief in something to the point that it becomes a point of reference for the other parts
of your life. Faith has always been personal and built upon with obtaining more knowledge of God,
but in the pursuit of more knowledge could bring about disbelief and skepticism. Skepticism and
disbelief comes along in the faith when answers are not answered to the extent that we would like or
are beyond our grasp. A God that we can fully understand is not worthy of our praise is a phrase that
could either bring light to why we can never find a concrete answer or is not satisfactory to the
skeptic. Skepticism and doubt are catalysts to make faith grow.
Skepticism towards the Bible can lead to the acceptance of beliefs that pertain to your own
individualistic ideology. Evans uses her cosmic lottery to explain the reason and circumstances a
person is dealt with in their lives. The cosmic lottery is Evans perception on predestination, but
cosmic lottery takes more into account the societal aspect and then later their souls. I have read plenty
of articles about the Bible to learn new things and one day I came across an article about the Red Sea
being able to part naturally on unusual occasions. I was skeptic at first by responding in my head no it
was a miracle , but I could not really suppress the article because it changed how I could see miracle. I
concluded not

Hamlet, A Revenge Tragedy
Hamlet, a revenge tragedy, scripted by William Shakespeare in 1603, is a tale of a murder, secrets and
lies. The tragedy places the protagonist Hamlet, with the challenge of avenging his Father, King
Hamlet s death. Shakespeare develops a range of techniques to influence the audience s perception
and understanding towards the production s main themes of revenge betrayal and death. Effective
techniques present within the play is the utilisation of symbolism, imagery and soliloquies. These
literary devices provide great perception into the characters and storyline. The prevailing utilisation of
imagery throughout the play, along with the continuous reinforcements which accentuates the
connection between the King and country. The support of literary devices, enable Shakespeare to
develop the plays themes and influence the audience to comprehend the deeper meaning and greater
complexity within Hamlet.
Shakespeare presents Hamlet s crazy thoughts and actions to permits his authority to be upheld, and
continuous chaos to arise. Quickly following the opening scene when King Hamlet is killed, Hamlet s
desire for revenge is heightened, this is further conveyed through Shakespeare s utilisation of
symbolism. Hamlet expresses, this too, too solid flesh would melt and the ability to dissolve the dew
to register his anguish over his Father s death, including the remarriage of his Mother and Uncle
Claudius. The expression of, gainst self slaughter explores the deep and suicidal

Sundiata Myths
The world of ancient Africa is a foreign one to many who do not live on the continent. The concept
that Africa was once rather like Europe in its many medieval kingdoms, and their upheavals and
struggles to be the greatest power, is not widely considered by the general population. Ancient Africa
was a place of great tales, heroes, and conquests however. The memories of these still linger even
today. The storytellers of Africa are griots. They are a mysterious group, who hold the legends and
history of Africa, and orally pass them down father to son through the generations. One of these great
stories is the Epic of Sundiata. Maghan Mari Djata, commonly known as Sundiata or Sundiata Keita,

As this legend is so well known, and has been told so many times, it is difficult to separate fact from
fiction. The Epic of Sundiata, is still however a gold mine of true knowledge if one only sorts out the
myths and pyrite. Still that is not so simple a task. The epic was for the longest time an oral tradition,
told by the griots to the villages and cities they lived in. The original griot of the story lived it, and
although the epic has most likely been added to for dramatic effect over the centuries, the original tale
must have been much closer to the truth. There is some doubt however over the legitimacy of some
parts of the story. In the epic Sundiata and his main rival Soumaoro, are accomplished sorcerers
(particularly Soumaoro), as well as other women magicians in the story. It is in fact very unlikely that
Sundiata and Soumaoro communicated by familiars (animals that supposedly lend their sight, hearing,
and speaking to the sorcerers who control them, in this case Soumaoro s owl), or that Soumaoro was
invincible for their first couple battles, Nor is it probable that Sundiata s mother was possessed by an

Irony And The Paradoxes Of War By Wilfred Owen
Irony is an important literary device wherein what appears to be true is radically different from what
actually happens. Wilfred Owen has used this technique in many of his poems to effectively convey
the paradoxes of war. The use of irony isn t surprising as there was a stark difference between what the
soldiers were told about war and what actually happened during war and their experiences. Through
his irony in his poems, during the World War I, Owen expressed what so many people felt about the
war. As the war continued they realized that they were lied to and were misled by war propaganda, but
in reality the war was very brutal and different indeed. Wilfred Owen was one of the few poets who
unveiled the true colours of war and showed how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However ideally a young boy is supposed to be given an option to what he wants to become when he
grows up. Unfortunately these boys are forced to become soldier even though they aren t old enough.
The first line, which starts with an imperative word, Let the boy try along this bayonet blade
delineates this. Even though it seems that they get an option to try , they don t really have one. As try
would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the
bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the
term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic
language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis
the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind,
blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy
that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up
to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of
the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible
to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when
you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him

The Death Penalty In Australia
Introduction~ The death penalty has always been one of the most debated issues in Australia. In most
countries in the developed world, the death penalty is illegal. I, however believe that the death penalty
is an important way of keeping all Australians safe.
Body 1~ The crimes of rape, torture, treason, kidnapping, stealing and murder are awful. We can
prevent these from happening by bringing back the death penalty, by following this adjustment their
will be minor crimes being held. In my opinion If someone murdered an innocent victim they should
therefore, be killed there is no question about it. The death penalty can deter people from committing
serious crimes and therefore make Australia a safer country.

Initially established in the lake as a food source for warm water fish the crawfish as well as mysid
shrimp have polluted the naturally clear waters of Tahoe, and restricted the zooplankton community.
The crawfish introduced into the lake may be thriving in the area for numerous reasons, and some
scientists suggest that the current rise in other food sources for the non native fish species has sparked
the incline in their population (www.tahoescience.org).
Crawfish naturally excrete phosphorous as well as nitrogen, and have enabled the lake to have a faster
turnover rate within its waters thanks to their large numbers (University of Davis Centers for Water
and Wildlife Resources, 1996). Warm water fish not native to the Lake Tahoe area have also begun to
thrive within the near shore environments because of the increase in water temperature, and continue
to intrude on native fish. The rise in water temperatures is most likely from an increase in algae
production within the near shore areas caused by the production of nutrients by the Asian clams,
which in turn then feeds the growing crawfish population.
Since the settlement of the Lake Tahoe Basin people have deforested mountain sides, and killed
almost all natural life within the waters. Just as the Lake Tahoe area has felt the

Six studio albums resulting in more than 100 million albums sold worldwide. Almost half of those
albums were sold in the United States alone. Not many rock bands can say that they have
accomplished this; Guns N Roses is one such band that has. The story of Guns N Roses is all
documented in the book W.A.R: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose written by Mick
Wall. In this book there is proof of Guns N Roses being one of the greatest rock bands to ever
perform. The early days were hard for the band. When all of the members made it to LA they were in
different bands. It took almost three years of them filling in for each others bands and drifting through

Food Bank Volunteerism
Brisk fall air was wrapped around us as we inhaled the faint smell of musk in the fairly large
warehouse building. Around us was rows and rows of grocery store products all organized in
categories such as pasta, tomato products, and fruits. Our job here was to take boxes and carts full of
food and stock the shelves. These donations came from community members that did local food drives
for the Food Bank... This was four very long years ago. I was a freshman and was a member of the
Business Professionals of America which is an organization based off of business and technology, but
is enormously involved within the community and is consistently doing work with different
community services. In BPA one of the first community service projects I was involved with was the
Food Bank as described at the beginning. My fellow members and I worked multiple hours at the
Milford Food Bank and held numerous food drives to donate to them. We also volunteered at different
events they held and met some of the people that depend on the Food Bank to survive. We listened to

My favorite part is seeing the most grateful faces of those that you helped. According to Forbes.com
there are five overall benefits of volunteerism which include the feeling of having more time, gaining
and improving skills, becoming a healthier person, building experience, and feeling more loved,
(Horoszowski, 2015, para. 5). I agree with all five of these benefits from personal experience.
Volunteering is like ice cream, you can never have enough. After your first project, you want to do
more and broaden the variety of different projects you work with. When you help others it makes you
feel that you are using your time more wisely for a purpose rather than wasting your time doing
activities for yourself such as watching television. Since your time is benefiting someone else for a
positive purpose, you feel like you have more

How Do Instruments Automatically Achieve A Kind Of...
How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up
a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand guitar; now, it s
a holy relic. Let s face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years
or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and
a six figure price tag... But what s the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of
irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Being a little on the vintage side
myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley
during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and
so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my
eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those
days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I
never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later
when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops.
What can I say? I was young and capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s,
I kicked myself for lack of foresight, but, being a rational chap,

The Best Things About Earning A Passive Income
One of the best things about earning a passive income is that there is no skill or knowledge glass
ceiling when it comes to doing so. It does not matter if you are a PHD student, a doctor with 20 years
of experience, or a person who did not finish high school, anybody can earn a passive income. A good
demonstration of this is EBook writing; it may sound daunting at first, but anyone can do it. Experts
(job recruiters, psychologists, marriage counselors, dietitians, personal trainers, hypnotists, etc.)
Instructors (yoga, piano, etc.) Coaches (sports coach, vocal coach, life coach, business coach, etc.)
Teachers (language, cooking, etc.) These are all very diverse professions, each requiring a different
skill set, yet anyone in these professions could write a bestselling EBook just based off their
experiences. So, as you can see, it does not matter who you are, as long as you are willing to work at
it, you can build a very impressive passive income. You do not have to be a professional either. All the
above professions went through some form of professional training, but even if you did not, you can
still write a great EBook. Some people may get intimidated because their writing is not good, or they
do not think anyone will read it; but look, the EBook you write does not have to be the next War and
Peace; they simply have to help your potential readership. The key is to focus on a problem or
question that your potential readers could have, and to solve that problem

Ethical Dilemma Working in obstetrics and gynecology, the patient population is all female. We see
many Muslim patients from Arab countries. In any obstetric or gynecology scenario Muslim women
must have a female provider (Mclean et al., 2012). We had a patient scheduled with one of the male
physicians for the first obstetric appointment, where a physical exam would be completed. When the
patient arrived, her spouse informed the staff that she cannot be seen by a male provider. The male
physician was not familiar with this preference. He was frustrated because when this patient presents

Enthalpy Lab Report Essay
Abstract
This lab is performed in order to determine the total energy in a reaction between zinc and
hydrochloric acid. The reaction is done twice, once to measure the heat of the reaction and again to
determine the work done in the system. This is because Enthalpy equals heat plus work (∆H= ∆E+W).
Heat and work can be broken down further into separate components so the equation used in lab is
∆H=mc∆T + PV. Many calculations are used in the lab to find out what cannot be measured directly
(ex: volume). After all the calculations were complete it was shown to have a very small percent error.
Introduction: The theory behind this experiment is the heat of a reaction (∆E) plus the work (W) done

The hydrochloric acid is put into a calorimeter and then the zinc is added after. The lid is closed after
the zinc is added and a thermometer is inserted through the lid in order to check the temperature as the
reaction takes place . The temperature is measured until the reaction has completed and the highest
temperature is used as the final temperature. ∆T is then found by the equation ∆T=Tfinal Tinitial.
Then according using the equation ∆H=mc ∆T+PV. In this lab the pressure remains constant while the
volume is changing. In order to calculate the volume the same reaction with the same amount of zinc
and hydrochloric acid is used. However, instead of a calorimeter, an erhlenmeyer flask with a balloon
put over the top is used. The hydrochloric acid is placed into a flask, the zinc is placed inside the
balloon and then sealed over the flask. By dropping the zinc into the flask the reaction occurs. This
allows the H₂ gas to be captured in the balloon. The circumference of the balloon is then found. The
circumference can then be applied to the equation C=2πr and the radius is determined. Using the
radius of the balloon, in the equation V=(4/3)πr³ the volume taken up by the hydrogen gas can be
found. The pressure is the pressure of the air which is measured with a barometer. ∆H can be found by
multiplying the mass of hydrochloric acid, the specific heat of HCl, and ∆T of the hydrochloric

Non Meat Eating Lifestyle Can Be Difficult Essay
There has always been a negative remark towards people that choose not to eat meat. I have been a
pescartrain, a person that abstains from eating any meat except fish, for three years and most of the
time people tend to either assume that I want to lose weight or try to convince me that it is an
unhealthy lifestyle. They always say, you aren t getting enough protein , or one of my personal
favorites, so, you only eat salad? . As absurd as it sounds, I get asked this multiple times either from
people I just met and even my family. People often stereotype vegetarians as skinny and extremely fit;
however that is not the case. Adapting to non meat eating lifestyle can be difficult; however there are
many benefits. Even though many people assume vegetarians do not get enough protein, becoming a
vegetarian can decrease the chances of certain cancers and heart diseases.
The idea of abstaining from meat has been around for a long period of time. According to Claus
Leitzmann from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition it has been around since the sixth century
B.C. and originated from the Orphic mysteries followers. A greek philosopher by the name of
Pythagorean, and other influential persons promoted ethical vegetarianism until the 19th century. After
that it begin to fade away until it was reintroduced during the Renaissance Era and the Age of
Enlightenment. When people were informed of the benefits of becoming a vegetarian or vegan, a

else in the essay matter. This leads to the second revelation, and that is, how to recognize what are

Essay about The Washington Monument
The Washington Monument
The Washington Monument, a memorial structure designed and constructed in the nineteenth century,
signifies an important tribute to the prestigious role and achievements of our nation s founding father.
Ideas for such a monument first arose in 1783, by which time the fame George Washington,
Commanding General and first President of the United States, was assured in the pantheon of
statesmen of the world (1). It was during this year that the Continental Congress proposed an
equestrian statue in honor of Washington s services and his unique role in the founding of the new

Despite the difficulties that were faced during both the planning and construction of the Washington
Monument, the impressive tributary obelisk still stands today as one of the nation s noblest
architectural structures (1).
Prior to beginning construction in 1848, the government spent nearly seventy years in legislation.
Shortly after it was decided in 1783 that an equestrian statue should be erected in honor of George
Washington, a French landscape engineer by the name of Major Charles Pierre L Enfant drew up the
first plan for Washington s future capital, including the statue as one of the principal features of the
Federal District (1). The idea resurfaced after the death of George Washington in December of 1799,
when a proposal made by U.S. Representative John Marshall suggested the erection of a marble
monument under which the founder s body would be deposited. But Congress could take no
immediate action due to conflicting opinions in both the House and Senate and with Washington s
family members: when the House appropriated $200, 000 for the construction of ... [a] mausoleum of
American granite and marble, in pyramidal form 100 feet square at the base and of proportionate
height (1), the grant was opposed by the Senate and family members (who did not want to move the
remains from the site where Washington had specifically asked they be placed).
Throughout the Nation there was a deep sense of disappointment over the

The Munich Massacre
The 1972 Olympics were supposed to show that Germany had changed as a country. They were

The Munich Massacre has changed how terrorism is dealt with in different countries and in the
Olympics as a whole. The Massacre occurred on September 5th, the eleventh day of the 1972
Olympics. Eight Palestinian Terrorists that belonged to the group Black september killed two Israeli
athletes and took another nine hostage. The terrorists did this because Israel has Arabs in their prisons.
They wanted Israel to release over 230 Arab prisoners being held in Israeli jails and two German

easy for the terrorists to carry out their plan. Israel did not want any negotiations to be made however,
German authorities tried to make many with the terrorists. The terrorists demanded transportation to

believe they would comply while in truth they were planning to ambush them at the airport (NPS).The

there were eight. The rescue failed for a few reasons. First, the German snipers that were chosen had

Analysis of Pauline Puyat’s TracksEssay
Analysis of Pauline Puyat s Tracks
One of the most striking characteristics of Pauline Puyat is her devout Catholicism and her desire to be
disconnected from the Ojibwa people. Throughout Tracks, she openly chooses Catholicism over her
native religion and abandons her native ways almost completely. When Pauline tries to help Fleur
prevent a miscarriage, she is literally held back by her conscious separation from the Ojibwa culture.
There are many things that Pauline fails to do to effectively prevent Fleur from miscarrying. The most
obvious is her failure to efficiently put together the herbal steep made of Alder: And I could not

Pauline s personification of the plants only continues this idea of confusion and abandonment. Her
prayer to the Catholic God is almost ironic; Pauline is begging her God to help her remember the
practices that she thinks sacrilegious.
Pauline s Catholicism and her duties as an Angel of Death continue to control her for the rest of the
passage. Before giving Fleur the Alder (or whatever herb she actually grabbed) steep, Pauline is
captivated by her face: Fleur s eyes were closed. Her face was drained of color. I k new this look and I
was fascinated, rapt, as at other death and sickbeds (157). Here, Pauline forgets what she is doing for
Fleur and reverts to her duty as the Angel of Death, abandoning her Ojibwa ways for Catholicism.
This seems to create further confusion for Pauline, as Fleur must instruct her on what to do with the
alder plant. When Pauline puts herself to that task, she finds that she is unable to do anything because
the Lord overtook [her] limbs and made them clumsy...it must have been his terrible will (157).
Pauline feels that God does not want her to help Fleur, and is preventing her from doing so by
deadening her limbs. Although she is trying to help Fleur, she simply cannot. Pauline s claims that
clumsiness and forgetfulness of Ojibwa traditions is God s terrible will, are a claim of validity for both
her follies in this passage and her stubborn separations from the Ojibwa.

Faraday s Law Of Electromagnetic Induction
ABSTRACT This lab is performed to analyze and understand Faraday s law of electromagnetic
induction and also its application in different magnetic components using Faraday s Electromagnetic
Lab simulation software 2.07. In this lab we understand the properties of the bar magnet, the basic
electromagnet and also the electromagnetic induction in transformers. In the basic electromagnet, we
observe the movement of the electronics both in AC and DC current source and compare the
movement of electronics in those conditions. For better understanding of the electromagnetic
induction in transformers, we observe the brightness of the bulb by changing the number of the loops
in the coil, varying the magnitudes of the input ac current and also varying frequency.
INTRODUCTION
Faraday s law: A time varying current produces a magnetic field, and a time varying magnetic field
produce an electric current. The magnetic field intensity is linearly related to the current which
produces it. The current can be produced by an alternating magnetic field and that a time varying
magnetic field can induce a voltage, or an EMF, in an adjacent circuit. This voltage is proportional to
the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage, or magnetic flux, or current, producing magnetic field.[1]
Faraday s law of induction states that emf is induced whenever the magnetic flux linkage changes. We
can also say that emf is induced in the conductor whenever the conductor cuts magnetic flux, and the

Rasputin Was An Infamous Siberian Holy Man
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was an infamous Siberian holy man , whose ability to cure the Tsar and
Tsarina s son of haemophilia led to him becoming an important friend and spiritual advisor to the
Romanov royal family (Duffy, 2009). Rasputin was a paradox, by day he was a supreme mystic at
court and at night he obtained a reputation as a notorious drunk and philanderer (Rae Thompson,
2014). By 1916 Rasputin was viewed by many as a malevolent puppeteer who infiltrated his way into
the royal family, pulling the strings of the Tsar s wife and manipulating the regime (Rae Thompson,
2014). While his influence and status may have been overstated Rasputin became an obvious
scapegoat for Russian aristocrats, liberals and nationalists, synonymous with debauchery, lust and
power his presence brought considerable shame and discredit to the tsarist government (Moss, 2003).
The dominant viewpoint that Rasputin was the sole reason behind the decay of the Romanov reign is
presented by Mikhail Rodzianko, Chairman of the Duma, who stated that The appearance in [the
royal] court of Grigory Rasputin, and the influence he exercised there, mark the beginning of the
decay of Russian society and the loss of prestige for the throne and for the person of the Tsar himself .
However, although Rasputin s company played a significant role in the increasing unpopularity of the
Imperial couple, he was purely a symbol of Russian despotism and not a central character in the

Technology And Its Effect On Technology
Are we becoming way too dependent on technology and allowing it to take over our lives? The
majority of people own at least one or more of these devices: a computer, laptop, tablet, or a cell
phone. So many people seem unable to function through their daily routine without having access to
some form of technology device. I m willing to bet that you have at least two of these devices in your
home, too. Now, stop and think about how often we use technology devices throughout the day. As a
result of the growing need for technological devices, we have become dependent on technology in the
work place and school, for social media, and simple daily functions that we should be able to manage
on our own. In the majority of businesses and many educational facilities, the use of technology
devices has become a part of the regular equipment needed to be able to function throughout the day.
Many businesses have gone paperless and depend solely on computers for all their record keeping,
schedules, payroll, and various other files; but what happens when the lights go off and the day must
go on? Very few businesses still keep printed hardcopies for daily use. We have placed ourselves in a
situation where in some cases the only decision is to cancel upcoming events, appointments, or other
scheduled activities for the day because our devices are not functioning. Numerous educational
facilities are headed in the same direction, requiring use of computers and tablets as part of the daily

Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap.
The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo
who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello.
His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s
weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes
and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello
sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job
back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for
help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that
Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle
the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like
that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and
when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into
Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back.
The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the
stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act
4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of
a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an
unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to
get rid of it entirely. Iago tell Othello that killing Desdemona is the answer. Othello lost in self pity
and no reasoning left in his mind, agrees. Othello tells Iago, he will kill Desdemona and he
desposes Cassio. Iago s plan works and in the end, Othello and Desdemona die.
Iago s character is brilliant. Manipulation is a huge part of

Economic Inequality
Economic Inequality
The sacred American tradition of free public education is in turmoil. The values, knowledge and
creativity which forged America into the greatest nation of the world originated in the classroom.
Classrooms which thrived in the past, are suffering in the present. Inequalities in the American
education system are apparent and vivid; most prominent are those regarding income. Poverty s
relationship with education is parasitic, and the barrier its erecting between the student and the
American dream grows every day. American s must quickly agree upon a cure for this disease if
America is to be a healthy and prosperous nation for the future.
The first step in any plan for recovery is to diagnose the illness. Combining their ... Show more

The previously mentioned educational professors Greg J. Duncan and Richard J. Murnane combined
their knowledge in a Sage Journal publication proposing a solution which takes advantage of advances
in research knowledge provides important school supports for teachers and school leaders and
includes sensible systems of accountability [with] high academic standards (Duncan 50). Reaching the
educational needs of low income students requires a community of dedicated professionals. Once this
community is created, federal funding should be provided to support community directives and goals.
Continuing, educational expert Susan B. Neuman professor of Teaching and Learning at New York
University advocates for extra funding to support poor communities along with additional human
resources (Neuman 18). Neuman contends that an increase of professionally trained educators along
with federal funding will benefit any community suffering from economic disadvantages. An
education system with professionals has the ability to develop community oriented goals and
programs to assist underprivileged students in their educational careers. Furthermore, if federal funds
are allotted to such programs, their effectiveness will increase significantly. Fortunately, the viability
of this educational strategy is

Essay on Egypt after Mubarak
Egyptians in a solidarity move demonstrated for 18 consecutive days of protest until the former
president Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign and the military took over the government suspending
the constitution. At the moment, the military can either run the transitional government for a period of
a year or less or run the country by committee. On taking over the power, the military promised to
deliver a new constitution and organize a free and fair election.
Under the imperative of Hosni Mubarak, Egyptians have been complaining about the inequality and
nepotism and with his exit, the Egyptians hopes the issues will be addressed and there will be an equal
wealth distribution all over Egypt. The main opposition leaders, the Muslim ... Show more content on

Since the opposition has not addressed the issue of reforming the laws to lift the segregation based on
sex, it would be wise for them to act positively for legitimacy rule. In the United States, women
participated effectively in the World War II thus earning themselves the right to vote.
Those hoping for a change in Egypt at the exit of Hosni Mubarak are homeless children who have
been estimated to be about 50, 000 in the Cairo streets alone. During the protest, at least one street
child died in the chaotic moments by a gun shot. Another female street child was denied treatment at
the first hospital her friends took her after she was shot but was treated at the second one when they
saw she was in a critical condition. Save the Children organization have lamented at the difficulty in
helping the street children when they do not own any identification documents. The discriminatory
treatment towards the street children is not practiced by the government but even the hospitals thus for
a change to be evident, the whole population should change the attitude towards the homeless and less
privileged members of the society. The new regime is expected to tackle the issue of the street
children, offer them identification papers but most importantly health care and education is
paramount. Street children used to be arrested for lack of

First Person Narration In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
For the initial presentation of Jane Eyre, Brontë uses first person narration to introduce Jane to the
reader, What does Bessie say I have done, I asked . Brontë may have decided to use first person
narration to make the reader look at the world through Jane Eyre s eyes which gives a voice to a
young child which in the Victorian era children were seldom given a voice. Brontë created Jane at the
bottom of society; a female orphan at a half charity school. It is apparent as soon as the reader meets
Jane Eyre for the first time that Jane is low in status and has no choice or power of her situation. In the
Victorian era, mostly men would have been reading it because most women in the Victorian era were
not educated enough to read such a novel; Brontë replicates this by making most of her male
characters rich and dominant. Additionally, Brontë may have written the book so men in the Victorian
era can see how women were mistreated which promotes feminism. Although, when the reader first
meets Rochester, he may seem fulfilled, but as the novel progresses, Brontë unveils Rochester s
secrets and horrible past. This projects that even if you are an orphan, female and you will not lead a
good life, sometimes tables turn and in Jane Eyre s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I said. You are like a murderer you are like a slave driver you are like the Roman Emperors! she said
to John Reed. This represents the innocence and naivety of Jane because she has yet to learn the
hierarchy in society, she does not know John Reed would automatically be head of the household
when he reached the age of eighteen as the only male in the household. Jane is also seen to be
outgoing when she is an adult; when she tells Rochester he is not handsome after he enquires Jane
which enforces Brontë s ideas on feminism. Moreover Brontë uses Jane to comment upon education
for women, and this quote shows that Jane is well

Recent Changes in Medicare Medicare is our country s health insurance program for people age 65 or
older. Certain people younger than age 65 can qualify for Medicare, too, including those with
disabilities and those who have permanent kidney failure. There are several changes for Medicare
enrollees in 2017. The average increase is more than $4/month, and average premiums will be about
$109/month for about 70 percent of enrollees. But the exact amount they ll pay will vary depending on
the dollar amount of the cost of living adjustment on their Social Security checks.
For low income Part B enrollees who are also covered by Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program

  • 2. The Destructive Nature Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 By... Technology is both a miracle and a disaster in society today. New improvements have allowed children to be safer physically now more than ever, allowing parents to know where they are 24/7. However, studies have been shown that their mental state is in decline the addiction to devices is driving a separation between teens and their friends, forcing them into a deep depression, subsequently provoking a rise in self harm rates. Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451 written in 1953, gives us a glimpse into the future in order to display the screen obsessed and censorship filled society in which the main character, Montag lives. Bradbury was able to predict technological advancements and their destructive effects on future civilization including screen addiction, loss of personal connections, and the depersonalization of war. The author, Ray Bradbury, was able to predict the destructive nature of technology today, by exploiting the screen addicted characters within his novel. One character that perfectly conveys a clear obsession with technology is Mildred. She spends her days entranced in the pretty colors of her 3 walled television; she still yearns for more by asking her husband for another screen and justifies herself by saying, It s only two thousand dollars...If we had a fourth wall, why it d be just like this room wasn t ours at all, but all kinds of exotic people s rooms. It is said that the most popular paint color, Optic White, is manufactured at Liberty Paints and that their paint is well known for painting national monuments. Optic White is made to be so white you can paint a chunka coal and you d have to crack it open with a sledge hammer to prove it wasn t white clear through (217). Similarly like the white blindfold, the Optic White symbolizes the white power structure. Brockway has a lot of pride in his job and is extremely cautious around people who are trying to steal his job. When Brockway meets the narrator, he threatens the narrator that The Old Man hired me, nobody else; and, by God, it ll take the old man to fire me (209). Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed by the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics, chronology, biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved. Deliberations According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms have been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009). On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency as magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth. • 5. Discuss The Role Of Enzymes In Chemical Digestion the body. The liver also has an excretory role, as it removes the yellowish bile pigment formed by the brake down of RBCs and puts them into the bile for elimination from the body. The hepatic ducts drain the bile out of the liver and form the common bile duct that drains the bile into the duodenum. The gallbladder is a sac attached to the undersurface of the liver. It has a folded interior and functions to concentrate and store the bile produced by the liver. When there is no chyme in the duodenum the sphincter muscles within the duodenum remain closed and the bile back up the common bile duct into the cystic duct that leads into the gallbladder. The gallbladder concentrates the bile by re absorbing water from the bile back into the blood. The bile contains the bile salts that emulsify the fats in the chime. It also contains cholesterol tat can be eliminated from the body. The cholecystokinin is a hormone secreted from the intestinal mucosa and is triggered by fat in the chime. The CCK causes the gallbladder to contract and push the stored bile into the ducts leading to duodenum. 20. Discuss the role of enzymes in chemical digestion. Page 517 Chemical digestion consists of numerous chemical reactions catalysed by enzymes in saliva, gastric juice, pancreatic juice and intestinal juice. During chemical digestion the enzymes very selectively speed up the breakdown of specific nutrient molecules. For example, the enzymes responsible for speeding up the breakdown of fats, ... • 6. Essay about Compare a P and Greasy Lake John Updike s A P and T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake have many similarities as well as differences as coming of age stories. A P is about a nineteen year old boy working at a grocery shop who stands up against the manager trying to defend and impress the girls he is attracted to who are not decently dressed (Updike 18). Greasy Lake is a story of several nineteen years old youths who play a prank on a bad character and experience what real bad characters can do. Fortunately, Sammy and the narrator realize their deficiency – infantility – after their conflict with other people just like the ancient Greek proverb says, Through suffering comes wisdom (qtd. in Vannatta 1637). In Sammy s case, enraged that Lengel has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hiding near the lake, the narrator is consternated and his true self – the good side of his character – is stimulated: He is more shaken by guilt than by fear that Bobby s friends will hurt him. He is, in fact, later overjoyed to hear the sound of Bobby s voice (Vannatta 1636). He, as well as readers, finds that even though he call himself bad , deeply within his heart, he has many good personalities (traits?), such as sympathy for other people (is sympathy a personality?). After he encounters the corpse of the motorcyclist and experiences what Bobby s friends do with his mother s car, the narrator further more distinguishes the difference between one s appearance and one s inner self: a truly bad character does not have a label on his face. At the end of the story, when the young woman says that the three [teenagers] look like ‘pretty bad characters , the narrator s reaction is hardly one of pride: ‘I thought I was going to cry (Vannatta 1638). Finally, the narrator completes this significant step towards maturity. He does not try to act like a bad character any more because he is not born to be bad. All he wants is to go home and start his new life. Both stories are told in first person from the narrators point of views which allow reader to discover the immaturity in both protagonists character through their minds. However, Piri was treated badly by the school, public transportation, workplace and the government. One cause of the Great Depression was international financial instability. After World War 1 there was a global economic depression. Britain, France, and Germany were in major debt to the U.S. Germany had to pay Britain and France reparations for the destruction they caused there. Germany could not make these payments. To help, the Dawes Committee came up with the Dawes plan. It was an agreement between Great Britain, France, Germany, and the U.S. In this plan Germany would pay less in reparations. In return, the U.S. would loan Germany money to help them pay their reparations. Britain and France agreed to use some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... President Hoover passed the Hawley Smoot Tariff Act. This made taxes on imported goods very high. They thought that by doing this it would make Americans buy in the U.S. which would help with unemployment. However, if outsiders could not sell their products in the U.S., then they couldn t make enough money to buy in the U.S. either. This tariff caused farmers to lose ⅓ of their markets. Another example is when President Franklin Roosevelt passed the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA). This act paid farmers to stop farming. The AAA helped farmers by reducing supply to increase prices but it hurt millions of people who were paying these prices and people had to deal with less food. A third example is the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA). This act created the National Recovery Administration (NRA). Its purpose was to regulate businesses, wages, unions, and prices. The rules were very complex. They told businesses how to operate. The government talked with large firms to help write the rules. These rules generally favored the large firms. The problem was this act created a monopoly, one company dominates the entire industry, which led to even more unemployment. • 9. Darkness Can Be Pure, And Light Darkness can be pure, and light can be tainted. This is the view with which Conrad expresses his work in Heart of Darkness. Conrad through his writing demonstrates how light and Darkness does not always hold rigid values. In Conrad s narrative, the traditional values of light and darkness is not upheld, it can be seen how light can be used to emphasize evil while Darkness or black can be a sign of purity. The motif of light and darkness are present throughout. In his narrative of the ship Marlow refers to Europe as one of the dark places of the earth. In this quote Darkness is not representative of evil, but instead of the uncivilized state in which Europe used to be before being brought to the light which can be inferred to represent civilization. For example, when Marlow refers to the explorers who were men enough to face the darkness it is in reference to courageous explorers of the past who dare to explore the unknown. Civilized men of the past went on these expeditions to find wealth and a name for themselves in history. Conrad uses Darkness to represent the unknown in this context. Marlow refers to light being like a running blaze on a plain, like a flash of lightning in the clouds. This quote use light as a simile of life, and of how short it can be. This brings out a characteristic of light; light does not last. Light although revealing when present does not last darkness is the natural default in life. The violence in the two simile used ... • 10. Analysis Of As Good As It Gets The film As Good As It Gets, reflects on the psychopathologies of three main characters. Marvin Udall is an obsessive compulsive writer who maintains poor boundaries with those who encounter him. Simon Bishop is a homosexual artist who struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) about his estranged relationship with his parents and following an attack in his home. Carol Connelly is a waitress who suffers from anxiety, due to her son having an extreme case of asthma causing him to have constant medical attention. These random characters lives intersect in such a way, that in the end they become their greatest support network. Marvin Udall displays typical behaviors that many functioning obsessive compulsives have in common. Mr. Udall has obsessions which are, persistent thoughts, urges that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted, whereas compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession (American Psychiatric Association., 2013). Very early in the film we see Mr. Udall struggles with contamination related obsessions and participates in ritualistic activities which serve to lessen his obsessional anxiety. We see him engage in hand washing rituals with extremely hot water and several bars of soap which is only intrusive to him, to later in the film where he must take a shower before dinner and has the character Carol waiting on him for what seemed like hours. Mr. Udall has a ritual to eat at a certain restaurant everyday for breakfast, where he also must bring his own plastic silverware for fear of germs. Mr. Udall shows his compulsive traits by feeling the need to lock his apartment door three times, turns the lights on and off five times and cannot step on cracks or lines in the flooring or street. These repetitive behaviors are normally not intrusive to others, but Mr. Udall does involve others in his compulsion when he is trying not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk. We do not know the exact rationale behind his compulsions, but many people fear that something bad will happen if they do not engage in their compulsion. What is interesting about Mr. Udall is how he did not perceive his quality of life to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Reflection Of The Cosmic Lottery The path one takes to perceiving their faith is essential for it to grow and mature during the walk of life. Faith is the belief in something to the point that it becomes a point of reference for the other parts of your life. Faith has always been personal and built upon with obtaining more knowledge of God, but in the pursuit of more knowledge could bring about disbelief and skepticism. Skepticism and disbelief comes along in the faith when answers are not answered to the extent that we would like or are beyond our grasp. A God that we can fully understand is not worthy of our praise is a phrase that could either bring light to why we can never find a concrete answer or is not satisfactory to the skeptic. Skepticism and doubt are catalysts to make faith grow. Skepticism towards the Bible can lead to the acceptance of beliefs that pertain to your own individualistic ideology. Evans uses her cosmic lottery to explain the reason and circumstances a person is dealt with in their lives. The cosmic lottery is Evans perception on predestination, but cosmic lottery takes more into account the societal aspect and then later their souls. I have read plenty of articles about the Bible to learn new things and one day I came across an article about the Red Sea being able to part naturally on unusual occasions. The concept that Africa was once rather like Europe in its many medieval kingdoms, and their upheavals and struggles to be the greatest power, is not widely considered by the general population. Ancient Africa was a place of great tales, heroes, and conquests however. The memories of these still linger even today. The storytellers of Africa are griots. They are a mysterious group, who hold the legends and history of Africa, and orally pass them down father to son through the generations. One of these great stories is the Epic of Sundiata. As this legend is so well known, and has been told so many times, it is difficult to separate fact from fiction. The Epic of Sundiata, is still however a gold mine of true knowledge if one only sorts out the myths and pyrite. Still that is not so simple a task. The epic was for the longest time an oral tradition, told by the griots to the villages and cities they lived in. The original griot of the story lived it, and although the epic has most likely been added to for dramatic effect over the centuries, the original tale must have been much closer to the truth. There is some doubt however over the legitimacy of some parts of the story. In the epic Sundiata and his main rival Soumaoro, are accomplished sorcerers (particularly Soumaoro), as well as other women magicians in the story. It is in fact very unlikely that Sundiata and Soumaoro communicated by familiars (animals that supposedly lend their sight, hearing, and speaking to the sorcerers who control them, in this case Soumaoro s owl), or that Soumaoro was invincible for their first couple battles, Nor is it probable that Sundiata s mother was possessed by an evil ... • 16. Irony And The Paradoxes Of War By Wilfred Owen Irony is an important literary device wherein what appears to be true is radically different from what actually happens. Wilfred Owen has used this technique in many of his poems to effectively convey the paradoxes of war. The use of irony isn t surprising as there was a stark difference between what the soldiers were told about war and what actually happened during war and their experiences. Through his irony in his poems, during the World War I, Owen expressed what so many people felt about the war. As the war continued they realized that they were lied to and were misled by war propaganda, but in reality the war was very brutal and different indeed. Wilfred Owen was one of the few poets who unveiled the true colours of war and showed how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However ideally a young boy is supposed to be given an option to what he wants to become when he grows up. Unfortunately these boys are forced to become soldier even though they aren t old enough. The first line, which starts with an imperative word, Let the boy try along this bayonet blade delineates this. Even though it seems that they get an option to try , they don t really have one. As try would indicate that they could check to see if it is their cup to tea, however when they are given the bayonet blade and sent to war there is no trial. You either survive the war or you die and hence the term try is ironic as the war is inevitably enforced upon them. The subtle tone and euphemistic language, which portrays a suggestion, is used to show that the boy is given weapons and emphasis the cynicism present. In like manner the opening of the second stanza, Lend him to stroke these blind, blunt bullet leads , elucidates that the speakers continues to give commands and is ironic as no boy that is lent to war ever comes back home. Therefore you aren t lending them and rather giving them up to war. The alliteration present in this line, which is, blind blunt bullet , emphasis the viciousness of the weapons through the harsh pronunciation of the letter b . This depicts the fact that it is impossible to get away from the thirst of the weapons as the bullets just kill blindly and death is assured when you join the war, hence mocking the use of the words Lend him as you aren t going to get him ... We can prevent these from happening by bringing back the death penalty, by following this adjustment their will be minor crimes being held. Initially established in the lake as a food source for warm water fish the crawfish as well as mysid shrimp have polluted the naturally clear waters of Tahoe, and restricted the zooplankton community. The crawfish introduced into the lake may be thriving in the area for numerous reasons, and some scientists suggest that the current rise in other food sources for the non native fish species has sparked the incline in their population (www.tahoescience.org). Crawfish naturally excrete phosphorous as well as nitrogen, and have enabled the lake to have a faster turnover rate within its waters thanks to their large numbers (University of Davis Centers for Water and Wildlife Resources, 1996). Warm water fish not native to the Lake Tahoe area have also begun to thrive within the near shore environments because of the increase in water temperature, and continue to intrude on native fish. The rise in water temperatures is most likely from an increase in algae production within the near shore areas caused by the production of nutrients by the Asian clams, which in turn then feeds the growing crawfish population. But what s the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. It does not matter if you are a PHD student, a doctor with 20 years of experience, or a person who did not finish high school, anybody can earn a passive income. A good demonstration of this is EBook writing; it may sound daunting at first, but anyone can do it. Experts (job recruiters, psychologists, marriage counselors, dietitians, personal trainers, hypnotists, etc.) Instructors (yoga, piano, etc.) Coaches (sports coach, vocal coach, life coach, business coach, etc.) Teachers (language, cooking, etc.) These are all very diverse professions, each requiring a different skill set, yet anyone in these professions could write a bestselling EBook just based off their experiences. So, as you can see, it does not matter who you are, as long as you are willing to work at it, you can build a very impressive passive income. You do not have to be a professional either. All the above professions went through some form of professional training, but even if you did not, you can still write a great EBook. Some people may get intimidated because their writing is not good, or they do not think anyone will read it; but look, the EBook you write does not have to be the next War and Peace; they simply have to help your potential readership. The key is to focus on a problem or question that your potential readers could have, and to solve that problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Enthalpy Lab Report Essay Abstract This lab is performed in order to determine the total energy in a reaction between zinc and hydrochloric acid. The reaction is done twice, once to measure the heat of the reaction and again to determine the work done in the system. This is because Enthalpy equals heat plus work (∆H= ∆E+W). Heat and work can be broken down further into separate components so the equation used in lab is ∆H=mc∆T + PV. Many calculations are used in the lab to find out what cannot be measured directly (ex: volume). After all the calculations were complete it was shown to have a very small percent error. The lid is closed after the zinc is added and a thermometer is inserted through the lid in order to check the temperature as the reaction takes place . Then according using the equation ∆H=mc ∆T+PV. In this lab the pressure remains constant while the volume is changing. In order to calculate the volume the same reaction with the same amount of zinc and hydrochloric acid is used. However, instead of a calorimeter, an erhlenmeyer flask with a balloon put over the top is used. The hydrochloric acid is placed into a flask, the zinc is placed inside the balloon and then sealed over the flask. By dropping the zinc into the flask the reaction occurs. This allows the H₂ gas to be captured in the balloon. The circumference of the balloon is then found. The circumference can then be applied to the equation C=2πr and the radius is determined. Using the radius of the balloon, in the equation V=(4/3)πr³ the volume taken up by the hydrogen gas can be found. The pressure is the pressure of the air which is measured with a barometer. ∆H can be found by multiplying the mass of hydrochloric acid, the specific heat of HCl, and ∆T of the hydrochloric ... In the basic electromagnet, we observe the movement of the electronics both in AC and DC current source and compare the movement of electronics in those conditions. For better understanding of the electromagnetic induction in transformers, we observe the brightness of the bulb by changing the number of the loops in the coil, varying the magnitudes of the input ac current and also varying frequency. INTRODUCTION Faraday s law: A time varying current produces a magnetic field, and a time varying magnetic field produce an electric current. The magnetic field intensity is linearly related to the current which produces it. The current can be produced by an alternating magnetic field and that a time varying magnetic field can induce a voltage, or an EMF, in an adjacent circuit. This voltage is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage, or magnetic flux, or current, producing magnetic field.[1] Faraday s law of induction states that emf is induced whenever the magnetic flux linkage changes. By 1916 Rasputin was viewed by many as a malevolent puppeteer who infiltrated his way into the royal family, pulling the strings of the Tsar s wife and manipulating the regime (Rae Thompson, 2014). While his influence and status may have been overstated Rasputin became an obvious scapegoat for Russian aristocrats, liberals and nationalists, synonymous with debauchery, lust and power his presence brought considerable shame and discredit to the tsarist government (Moss, 2003). The dominant viewpoint that Rasputin was the sole reason behind the decay of the Romanov reign is presented by Mikhail Rodzianko, Chairman of the Duma, who stated that The appearance in [the royal] court of Grigory Rasputin, and the influence he exercised there, mark the beginning of the decay of Russian society and the loss of prestige for the throne and for the person of the Tsar himself . However, although Rasputin s company played a significant role in the increasing unpopularity of the Imperial couple, he was purely a symbol of Russian despotism and not a central character in the downfall of the Romanov ... • 40. Technology And Its Effect On Technology Are we becoming way too dependent on technology and allowing it to take over our lives? The majority of people own at least one or more of these devices: a computer, laptop, tablet, or a cell phone. So many people seem unable to function through their daily routine without having access to some form of technology device. I m willing to bet that you have at least two of these devices in your home, too. Now, stop and think about how often we use technology devices throughout the day. As a result of the growing need for technological devices, we have become dependent on technology in the work place and school, for social media, and simple daily functions that we should be able to manage on our own. In the majority of businesses and many educational facilities, the use of technology devices has become a part of the regular equipment needed to be able to function throughout the day. Many businesses have gone paperless and depend solely on computers for all their record keeping, schedules, payroll, and various other files; but what happens when the lights go off and the day must go on? Very few businesses still keep printed hardcopies for daily use. We have placed ourselves in a situation where in some cases the only decision is to cancel upcoming events, appointments, or other scheduled activities for the day because our devices are not functioning. Numerous educational facilities are headed in the same direction, requiring use of computers and tablets as part of the daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian. Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap. The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello. His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back. The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act 4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to

  • 43. Economic Inequality Economic Inequality The sacred American tradition of free public education is in turmoil. The values, knowledge and creativity which forged America into the greatest nation of the world originated in the classroom. Classrooms which thrived in the past, are suffering in the present. Inequalities in the American education system are apparent and vivid; most prominent are those regarding income. Poverty s relationship with education is parasitic, and the barrier its erecting between the student and the American dream grows every day. American s must quickly agree upon a cure for this disease if America is to be a healthy and prosperous nation for the future. The first step in any plan for recovery is to diagnose the illness. Murnane combined their knowledge in a Sage Journal publication proposing a solution which takes advantage of advances in research knowledge provides important school supports for teachers and school leaders and includes sensible systems of accountability [with] high academic standards (Duncan 50). Reaching the educational needs of low income students requires a community of dedicated professionals. Once this community is created, federal funding should be provided to support community directives and goals. Continuing, educational expert Susan B. Neuman professor of Teaching and Learning at New York University advocates for extra funding to support poor communities along with additional human resources (Neuman 18). Neuman contends that an increase of professionally trained educators along with federal funding will benefit any community suffering from economic disadvantages. An education system with professionals has the ability to develop community oriented goals and programs to assist underprivileged students in their educational careers. Furthermore, if federal funds are allotted to such programs, their effectiveness will increase significantly. Fortunately, the viability of this educational strategy is ... Those hoping for a change in Egypt at the exit of Hosni Mubarak are homeless children who have been estimated to be about 50, 000 in the Cairo streets alone. During the protest, at least one street child died in the chaotic moments by a gun shot. Another female street child was denied treatment at the first hospital her friends took her after she was shot but was treated at the second one when they saw she was in a critical condition. Save the Children organization have lamented at the difficulty in helping the street children when they do not own any identification documents. The discriminatory treatment towards the street children is not practiced by the government but even the hospitals thus for a change to be evident, the whole population should change the attitude towards the homeless and less privileged members of the society. • 48. First Person Narration In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre For the initial presentation of Jane Eyre, Brontë uses first person narration to introduce Jane to the reader, What does Bessie say I have done, I asked . Brontë may have decided to use first person narration to make the reader look at the world through Jane Eyre s eyes which gives a voice to a young child which in the Victorian era children were seldom given a voice. Brontë created Jane at the bottom of society; a female orphan at a half charity school. It is apparent as soon as the reader meets Jane Eyre for the first time that Jane is low in status and has no choice or power of her situation. In the Victorian era, mostly men would have been reading it because most women in the Victorian era were not educated enough to read such a novel; Brontë replicates this by making most of her male characters rich and dominant. Additionally, Brontë may have written the book so men in the Victorian era can see how women were mistreated which promotes feminism. Although, when the reader first meets Rochester, he may seem fulfilled, but as the novel progresses, Brontë unveils Rochester s secrets and horrible past. This projects that even if you are an orphan, female and you will not lead a good life, sometimes tables turn and in Jane Eyre s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I said. Jane is also seen to be outgoing when she is an adult; when she tells Rochester he is not handsome after he enquires Jane which enforces Brontë s ideas on feminism.
