The Code Math
The final episode of The Code began with an ancient tale of an old exploration ship. They ship
was in a storm and had no choice but to run aground and try to survive on an island waiting for
help. After 8 months with no help and hostile natives, the captain of the ship told the native leader
that if he didn t bring them food then their god would consume the moon. The captain of the ship
watched as his predictions came true and the moon began to disappear. The native leader brought
them food because they were scared. The reason the captain knew the moon would disappear was
because he used math and had a lunar table which means he knew when the eclipse would happen.
This was an old example of how math was used and history and very interesting... Show more

Using certain probability equations, investigators can use them to determine why or where a
criminal will attack next. These mathematical principle are very useful in tracking down serial
killers. Serial killers are thought to be very random but actually there is usually a rhyme or
reason for choosing the people that they kill. These equations have been designed to predict
where they might strike next. This example is another great example of how math is used in the
real world. It shows how humans aren t even aware of the patterns we live. It truly is almost
impossible for a human to be completely random. One line that stood out to me in this episode was
when Mr. Du Sautoy said life is random, it s chaos . This means that while life may seem
completely random, in reality almost everything can be predicted. It s just the slightest shift of one
of any number of factors that can throw something into a completely different direction. I thought
that this was a very interesting and thought provoking phrase. The next thing Mr. Du Sautoy talked
about was the butterfly effect. This is the idea that one small thing could have greater effects on
another thing over

Neighborhood Theories
Theories on Neighborhoods Defining a neighborhood, is a built community or unit that surrounds a
person, place, or object. Neighborhoods can be categorized into three subjects; upper class, middle
class, underclass. With this noted, one theory about neighborhoods is its relations with race and
income. As Reynold Farley discussed, ...the moves people make and assess the extent to which
neighborhood racial composition, independent of a variety of other individual and neighborhood
characteristics, leads people to make housing decisions that, taken together, contribute to persistent
patterns of segregation. Continuing this theorem, the cause and effect of these categories will cause
social inequality, discrimination, and lastly social deprivation.... Show more content on

Choice And Agency In The Matrix Trilogy
As Dr. Mike Sosteric sagaciously suggests, the Matrix trilogy is a comprehensive metaphor for
modern capitalistic society (Sosteric, 2015). In the simplest discernment, the Matrix trilogy reveals
that the mass majority is either unaware of, or indifferent to, the extent that they are controlled by
the uppermost in society. Furthermore, the concepts put forth in the Matrixtrilogy relate to a
multitude of the concepts introduced specifically in this unit, and the course in its entirety. These
concepts include, but are not limited to, agency, choice, power, propaganda, resistance,
mobilization, demobilization, ideology, and religion.
To begin with, regarding choice and agency, one part of the Matrix that resonates with me is when

Yes! The UFC is a dangerous sport, but a sport nonetheless. Every sport has danger and there is
bound to be accidents in them all. Once again, An athletic activity requiring skill or physical
prowess and often of a competitive nature... ( Sport ). That being the definition of a sport clearly
explains that the UFC is indeed a sport. It takes a lot of skill with years of practice to be a
fighter. It is extremely competitive and extraneous. A sport is not defined by the danger, but of
the core principles of fun, of competition. Regardless, danger is not something to live by, yet
something to live for. Danger has the power to control someone s life, but people such as UFC
fighters have taken a stand to do what they enjoy as a career without the worry of fear or
danger. There are plenty of dangerous sports that aren t well known. For example, there is: Deep
sea diving, mountain climbing, base jumping, street Luge, and bull riding. There are countless
sport that pose a danger to anyone that participates. It is human nature to embrace danger and
compete for fun. Danger is only present when rules are not followed. It is completely optional to

The Language of Romeo and Juliet in the Balcony Scene
Act II Scene 2 is one of the most famous scenes of
Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet. It is
commonly known as the Balcony Scene because Juliet appears on a small
balcony outside her bedroom window, and exchanges words, expresses true
love with Romeo who is standing below in her father s orchard. The scene is
famous for its moving and vivid images, used to express love between two
people of contrasting nature. In my study I will compare the language of
Romeo and Juliet in this famous scene.
The balcony scene is physically separate from the rest of the play
by being set in a moonlit garden. The lovers exist outside the ... Show more content on

Previously when Romeo was in love with Rosaline he always
sad, depressed and associated her with darkness. When Romeo uses light
imagery it stands in contrast to the imagery of darkness used earlier and
shows how powerful and true his love is for Juliet. His love for Juliet
kills the sick love and gives new life with its radiance.
Two of the fairest stars in all heaven having some business, do entreat
her eyes To twinkle in their spheres ... That birds would sing and think it
were not night.
Here Romeo describes Juliet s eyes as stars and not just any stars but the
fairest stars in the heaven. He also says that her cheeks would be so
bright and full of light that the surrounding stars would feel ashamed, and
the brightness of her eyes would make the birds on earth think that its day
time. Romeo here exaggerates Juliet s beauty to a great extent.
Later, he speaks of her as a bright angel who, as a winged
messenger of heaven , is far above ordinary mortals on earth. Unlike
Rosaline, Juliet is not compared to a pagan goddess. Romeo s and Juliet s
speeches are full of the religious register. Juliet uses the religious

Copper Sulfate Lab Report
Analysis/conclusions
In conclusion, the charge/roman numeral on copper in copper sulfate is 2+. The percent
composition of copper in copper (I) sulfate was 40.58% and in copper (II) sulfate it was 25.46%.
Later, I calculated that the percent of copper in the lab was 26.13%. This percent shows that copper
(II) sulfate was used in this experiment because 26.13% was closer to 25.46% than 40.58%. If iron
(II) sulfate and copper metal is the product of copper (?) sulfate and iron metal, then copper (?)
sulfate has a charge of 2+. The mass of dry filter paper (1.18 g), the mass of copper sulfate (3.10 g),
the mass of iron (0.70 g), total reaction time (129 s), the mass of dry filter paper/copper (1.99 g),
and the mass of copper produced (0.81 g). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that my group could have done something wrong or different during the experiment. The
only source of error is not putting all the copper sulfate in the water and this could have a high
but low effect. It could have changed the results by a lot or a little because the putting less than
was called for made the mass smaller than it is. The percent error is 34.14%.
One question that the experiment generate was how did a chemical reaction take place? I did not
understand how the metals and compounds used in this lab could make a chemical reaction like
color change. One thing that I understand is that my group could have done better. If I had the
opportunity to repeat the experiment, I would follow the procedure more thoroughly, measure the
mass of the materials more precisely, and actually pour all the materials into the right places. If I
do these things right, then the results will be closer to the actual results than what I got during my
experiment. From this experiment, I learned many things. I learned that I need to be more precise
to get the best results in this experiment. You will need to measure the amounts to what is asked to
be able to the right results. I learned that some error can change the results easily. Some error like
not measuring the exact amount can change the results by a little or a

The Public Company Accounting Oversight
The act is very comprehensive, however, some of its main points include (Ball, 2009): Creation of
the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board which regulates the public accounting/auditing
industry Requires CEO s and CFO s to certify the financial statements are free of material
misstatements and fairly represent the company s financial position Requires a strong and
independent audit committee which is to oversee the audit instead of management Places
limitations on the provision non audit services by a firm responsible for auditing the company in
order to strengthen and enhance auditor independence Requires management to assess, and attest
to, the adequacy of the company s internal controls Prior to Sarbanes Oxley and the creation of
the PCAOB, the auditing industry regulated itself. Between the years 2000 and 2001 Ernst and
Young, Price Waterhouse Cooper, and Arthur Anderson were involved in cases that proved the
need for an oversight board (Coates, 2007). Ernst and Young settled a shareholder lawsuit for
$335 million; Price WaterHouse Cooper was found to have over 8,000 instances where their
auditors held stock in the company they were auditing even though it was a violation of SEC rules;
and the SEC charged Arthur Anderson with fraud. It was once again vital that public confidence in
our financial system was restored, hence the passage of Sarbanes Oxley. Stronger oversight of the
auditing industry reassures the public the profession will be held to

These borders further enhance the trouble by creating differences among people and that affects
their mutual relationship. Amitav Ghosh through his work tries to explain that these borders have

Theme Of Mrs Mallard
What was the cause of Mrs. Mallard s death? The story revolves around a woman named Mrs.
Mallard, who gets informed that her husband had passed away after an accident, though we later
find out that was false information. Although, before she found out it was false, her sister,
Josephine, and her friend, Richards, try to break the news of her husband s death to Mrs. Mallard
as gently as possible since it was described in the first sentence that Mrs. Mallad was afflicted with
hearttrouble . There are two possible meaning to this expression. Firstly, it could be taken literally,
and she probably has heart diseasewhich she has to be medicated for and she has to adapt her
lifestyle around. But as we read more of the story, we find out that this expression is in fact a
metaphor for Mrs. Mallard s suffering and the burden she has to carry in her heart every day
because of her husband and because of being in an environment where she doesn t have any self
expression or any opportunity to fulfill what her heart greatly desires. When her husband died ,
she cried, but then she came to the realization that perhaps his death could be a positive thing for
her since we get hints in the story that she might not have had a good marriage and she probably

The Communication Problems That Endanger Marriage Can t...
Communication is usually the most important aspect of trying to understand something or
someone. It is important to convey a message clearly; otherwise the words can be interpreted
differently. Interpretation can give off positivity or negativity because it depends on the way the
other side receives it. There are various languages, but in those languages something can mean
differently than what it signifies in English. There are different types of communicationand the way
words come out rely on the tone. It is not only words that are a barrier, but it is also behavior and
style. The effects of communication create discrepancy amongst people by lack of understanding,
wrong body language, and frustration. Lack of understanding becomes a major component for
something not working out. Deborah Tannen in Sex, Lies and Conversation mentioned that the
communication problems that endanger marriage can t be fixed... (278). The main problem
between relationship is communication. Boyfriends and girlfriends breakup because they do no
talk to each other and think space will fix everything. Space does not always work because there is
no communication at all. Majority of reasons that couples get a divorce is because they do not
understand their significant other. Trying to communicate becomes hard because the couple is not
used to communicating in the first place and both have different ways of conversing. Not
understanding the other creates distance, which makes the couple decide that

Liberation Ideology Essay
Liberty and Equality for All
Oppression and discrimination has existed and continues to exist in the past, present, and future
history of the United States. The mistreatment of particular groups infringe on the idea that all
individuals are free and equal. Liberation ideology strives to eliminate external and internal
oppression of particular groups in both a formal and informal method in our legal system and
society. This ideology believes in the freedom and equality of the individual. Similar to welfare
liberalism, strong government interaction is necessary to eliminate oppression in the legal system.

Therefore, liberation ideology can fully thrive in a liberal democracy that promotes individual
freedom and equal opportunity giving equal rights to all individuals without infringing on the rights
of others. Welfare liberals utilize strong government interaction to bring about change in society, in
which liberation theology strives to eliminate formal discrimination by creating or ratifying legal
policies. Welfare liberals work well with liberation ideology because they believe in the necessity
for strong government intervention to aid individuals who do not have equal opportunity to reach
their full individual freedom. The liberation ideology utilizes the government to make political
moves to overcome the oppression and discrimination. For example, black liberation movements,
women liberation movements, and gay liberation movements all formally made changes in the
political system to eliminate the inequality and to bring about liberation. Black liberation
movements banned racial discrimination and segregation in the workplace and in public places
during the Civil Rights Movement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1968, as well as the
Voting Rights Act of 1965. These legal movements allowed blacks to gain power to assimilate

hands on training. A written report is not an instructional tool, therefore; a written report would not

I Am A Homicide Detective For The State Of Iowa
It was May 16th, 2025 when I got the call asking if this was Jason and I was asked to go to small
house outside of Fayette. I m a homicide detective for the state of Iowa. When we reached the
crime scene it looked like a party, but not just a regular party, it was a party of massacre. There
were five victims and one survivor. The victims had six slashes and six stabs to the heart. The
slashes ranged from one to three inches deep into the flesh. He also carved a satanic star in the
top of each victim s head. All this shows that the killer is psychotic, that was abundantly clear,
and more than likely very dangerous to the public. I have to stop whoever did this fast before he
strikes again. As I was finishing up looking threw the house to make sure there was no more
evidence in the house. The whole house was full of blood splatters all over the walls. We
concluded that the murderer had some sort of relation with all the victims because of how brutal
the attacks were on each one. Someone yelled, Jason come here quick you might like what I
found, I went over and saw a mask thought of this odd and came to the conclusion that it was the
killer s mask. I also found a bloody suit he must have worn. After we all went outside I got a call

The Relationship Between Art And Commerce
Historically, the relationship between art and commerce has been viewed as hierarchical. In this
hierarchy of power, commerce dominates art and negatively influences artistic and creative
potential of the art while art is viewed as a form of creative and cultural luxury that needs protection
from external corruption. This argument has been brought up continually in academia, all similarly
suggesting that there is something inherent in commerce and economics that undermines the
purpose and authenticity of art. Whether this be the classic Bourdieun analysis of for profit
industries and their negative influence on art culture or the modern day parent who views the
popular music and culture of her child s generation as absent of value, there is a consistent
contention at the core of commerce and arts relationship. While I undoubtedly agree that the
politics of commerce and commercial activity has an effect on art, I do not believe that art therein
lacks value because it was produced by a commercial entity or for profit. In this paper, I will argue
that the contemporary relationship between art and commerce is one in which commerce does not
domineer art and art culture but rather preserves and sustains it. Throughout the historical debate of
this topic, many fallacies about the relationship between art and commerce have presented
themselves. One of the most common misconceptions about this relationship is that commerce
controls and debases art. Rather than a harmonious

Why Was The 95 Theses Important
95 Theses Essay:
The 95 Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences are the things that Martin Luther, a
priest and professor of theology, wrote in 1517 to express what he thought was wrong with the
Catholic Church. The 95 Theses were held in one of Europe s largest collections of holy relics,
the All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Saxony, which was part of the Holy Roman Empire. The 95
Theses were lists of questions to debate upon. These Theses mostly targeted the validity of the
indulgences performed by the Pope, which were sold to people who thought that paying money
erased sin, the authority of the Pope and the nature of which a person confesses to a priest and is
given absolution, or penance, and even baptisms. But they also attacked how much power the Pope
had.
He thought that the Bible was the religious answer and that humans could only reach salvation
through faith alone. This was considered the catalyst to the Protestant Reformation which changed
religious and cultural history in the West. The importance of the 95 Theses was that it got word
around that maybe the Pope was wrong and that the Bible was where you needed to go for answers
when you felt sinful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, they would come home to Luther s church, the city church in Wittenberg, and show him the
documents where they had paid for the forgiveness of their sins and therefore did not have to
repent, which upset Martin Luther greatly. The Theses were to be discussed at a public scholarly
debate at the University of Wittenberg, where Martin Luther had been the theology professor
since 1514, and were posted on October 31, 1517 in Latin. It was later translated into German and
widely copied and printed. He also sent a letter to his church superiors, with a copy of the 95
Theses, hoping to get rid of the

Analysis Of Rosie The Riveter
Rosie the Riveter Rosie the Riveter was a female icon created in a time of global war during the
1940s; she symbolized women who built ships and planes, and produced munitions (Ellis 478).
She was created to be a reminder to everyone to try new things, test limits, and believe in each
other. (Mather Thrift). She also represents any woman defense worker (Harvey). The women
influenced by her became ambulance drivers, delivered airplanes, and decoded messages (Ellis
478). Norman Rockwell is the artist while Howard Millar was the one who created her (Harvey).
We can do it! is Rosie s famous saying, it was created to get people to do more work by the
federal government (Harvey). Rosie influenced many women during the war time. She caused
women to want to join military in the war. Women Propaganda Propaganda was a big deal for
women during World War Two because it influenced them to join the war and work out of the
house. Until World War Two women were thought to only be helpful in the house however once
they were desperate during the war, they found out women were able to do the same jobs as men
(Mathis). Propaganda was shown in magazine articles, advertisements, radio programs, and
posters of women working; it changed the view of the public on how women should be working
(Mathis). A famous saying The More Women at Work The Sooner We ll Win was on posters to

Implementation Of A Pre Study Phase Essay
A Pre study phase (including estimations) where the project team clarifies requirements, identifies
risks, defines estimations (workload, costs), develops time schedule, identifies resources, performs
feasibility study and defines the validation strategy. When completed, an end of Pre study review is
held with all project stakeholders to commit on pre study results.
A Development phase (that may consist of different iterations and technical reviews) in which
technical solutions are defined, software coding is implemented, validation and verification
activities are performed, requirements are traced and project plans are monitored.
When completed, an end of development review is held with all project stakeholders to make sure
that the software meets customer/market requirements with the expected level of quality.
Then the software is delivered to customers and to the teams in charge of maintaining it, through an
Acceptance phase. In that phase, Customers will check that the software meets its requirements and
maintenance resources will make sure they have all items and skills to maintain the software. This
phase is ended by an end of Acceptance review to officially transfer the software.
Then, the software enters the Maintenance phase that may last for years, in which critical defects
are fixed, if any.

History of the Traditional School Calendar Essay
History of the Traditional School Calendar
The American educational system is based on the traditional, nine month school calendar, which
has been in place for over a century. Originally, the United States was an agrarian society. The
majority of Americans lived on farms. People made most of the items that they needed, and with
little trade necessary, there was no need for schooling (McLain, 1973). However, as people
branched out into neighboring areas, they needed to learn new skills, such as basic arithmetic to
price items, measure land, and more (McLain, 1973). As a result, it became the responsibility of
those who were less needed on the farm or in the factory to acquire knowledge for the family
(McLain, 1973).

The first year round school was established in 1904 in Bluffton, Indiana (Glines, 2002). Year round
education is described as a calendar modification that requires students to begin school earlier and
end later than normal, with the lost summer vacation redistributed in blocks throughout the year
(Glines, 2002, 2698). It is important to note that year round schools have the same number of days
in a calendar year as does the traditional school year. However, the days are distributed throughout
the year. Year round schools differ from traditional schools in a variety of ways.
Single Track Calendar
In order to accommodate the year round calendar, there are several forms of year round
education. The first form follows a single track calendar. This is the most popular type of
calendar (Shields, 2000). A single track year is usually implemented to provide a more balanced
and enriched education program or to accommodate the special scheduling needs of a community
(Glines, 2002, 2699). A single track calendar takes on a 45/15 design. This is where students go
to school for forty five days in a row, and then have a fifteen day break. It is a continuous cycle.
Schools usually begin in early August, and follow this pattern four times to complete the school
year (Glines, 2002). The three week break in between is called an intersession. During this time,
students can choose to take additional educational courses through remedial,

Gifted Education Essay
Gifted education is very stressful for students in middle school, but if you start in elementary
school with a gifted program it could be less stressful on your child. Gifted programs are good
programs but there are things that could make your child feel pressured and they may want to
leave the program. To get into the programs depending on the district you are in there could be
discrimination to be accepted or recommended to test for it. This discrimination could be based on
race, income, gender, or ethnicity, if you re in a school district that lets you apply without being
recommended then you won t have to worry about this. Studies show that in Broward County they
started with teachers recommended students and then changed their system to where any students
could apply to the gifted programs and there was a major increase in low income, latino, and
black students that were accepted. In most districts there are not full time gifted programs, so
there are pull out enrichment programs, which are groups of kids that get taken with a gifted
resource teacher and get taught in the small group, missing class time. Another option if there a
full time gifted program is to skip grades, which isn t a very good decision because although your
student is gifted they still need to know the information from the grade they skip. Teachers don t
have the correct training to know how to teach and how a gifted student learns, so schools without

Exploring American CultureВґs Dark Spot Essay

Educational expectations may create academic dishonesty incentive Jay Z, Jay Gatsby, and Al
Capone all reside in the same weak place in the hearts of Americans. These three men represent our
nation s twisted admiration for masterful cheaters. Americans are intrigued by these men, seduced
by their risk taking and their subsequent success and fame. The majority of society is not made up

realistic acts. Recently, educational cheating scandals seem to be gripping the nation, or at least the

200 educators from 40 schools were involved in a cheating scandal in Atlanta. At one school,
educators had weekend pizza parties to correct wrong answers on test documents together. As a
result, the school s scores increased 45 percent. We were told to get these scores by any means
necessary. We were told our jobs were on the line, said Sidnye Fells, a fourth grade teacher in
Atlanta to ABC news. In 2004, educators encouraged 500 high school students in Alabama to drop
out before the test to increase the school s score. Some public school activists attribute teachers
cheating scandals to the high expectations of standardized tests. Across the country, educators and
parents have participated in protests against heavy reliance on standardized test scores in deciding a
teacher or school s success.
Standardized tests provide administrators and state government with an objective evaluation of
students knowledge.
Ohio will implement the new teacher evaluation system in the 2014 2015 school year. Teacher
performance ratings will comprise 50 percent of the evaluation. The remaining 50 percent relies on

The Use Of Electrical Probes On The Brain
The brain is one of the most complex organ in our bodies. To learn about the brain scientists use
electrical stimulation. Electrical stimulation is the use of electrical probes to determine functions of
the brain. Clinical observation of patients have also helped scientists learn more about the brain.
Case studies of different patients such as Phineas Gage have helped to learn about the different
functions of the brainand how they work together to perform complex activities. (Barron s AP
Psychology 6th Edition)
Different maps are taken of the brain in order to determine if there are any problems with the
brain. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is used an amplified read out of the brain waves. A
magnetic resonance imaging scan (MRI) gives a detailed picture of the brain s soft tissues. It
also shows the structure of the brain. A function magnetic resonance imaging scan or function
MRI (fMRI) shows the function of parts of the brain as well as the brain s structure. It also has
the ability to show when a person is lying. Scientists also use a neuroimaging technique called a
positron emission tomography scan (PET scan) to view the brain. (Barron s AP Psychology 6th
Edition) The PET scan shows each brain area s consumption of chemical fuel which is glucose.
There is a scale for the PET scan to determine activity in the brain when performing a certain
action. The colors range from purple to red, purple represents no activity while red represents very
high activity. The PET scan can

Effects Of Alcohol Advertising On Adolescents
Alcohol advertising is abundant globally. It is vital that adolescents are to be raised in a positive
and healthy setting. Particular consumer segments are considered to be more subtle towards the
negative impact of advertising (Morgan, Schuler and Stoltman, 1995). Due to the new social
networking technologies exist today and the various way of advertising, it is not surprising that
adolescents are exposed to alcohol advertising as direct promotions are easy and voluminous. A
large number of research have been performed regarding the effect of alcohol advertising and
marketing on the drinking of adolescents is highly debated globally (Smith and Foxcroft, 2009).
Regardless of most statistics indicating that alcohol advertising relates to the higher consumption of
alcohol, early commencement of drinking and the positive eagerness among adolescents,
advertisements with youth friendly attributes as well as new alcohol products are remitting by
alcohol companies. This paper analyses the research methodologies used in selected previous
literatures to conduct their research regarding the effect of alcohol advertising on adolescents.
Accordingly, the limitations for the methodologies used in the selected articles are discussed.
Consequently, this paper further suggests a more appropriate method in conducting future research

The Three Main Causes Of The Civil War
The North and South citizens were divided because of their huge differences. The tension
between them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences.
The hate and violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War,
also known as the War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war
of disputes and misery led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three
main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery.
The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about politics.
During the election of 1860, Abraham Lincolnwas a candidate of the North while J.C. Breckinridge
was the candidate of the South. Abraham Lincoln successfully won with 180 electoral votes.
This caused tension between the North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the
expansion of slavery (Doc N). The Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri
Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The
act organized territories on the principle of popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between
the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T. Peters in 1856, it is shown that Preston Brooks, a

Plaintiff Jane Paul moves the Court for its order barring Defendant or his witnesses from referring
to or presenting any evidence or argument regarding Ms. Paul s past alcoholism, her DWI

the issues. Ford v. Gordon, 990 S.W.2d 83, 85 (Mo. Ct. App. 1999). Evidence is relevant only if
it tends to prove or disprove a fact at issue or bears on the witness s credibility. Id. For example,

And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern technological advance in
human history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not only changed people s life but also
influenced the way of thinking. As a result, materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized
areas. With the advance of technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side,
but decreased the spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western
civilization rather than the physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with
his historical situation not by abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in ironic
contrast to the products of modern culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror, reflects cultural
facts of its contemporary period, and Pound considered the art of a society to be an index to its
vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, there is a clear line between elitist and popular art, or the
ideal and the reality. This kind of distinction is the result of explosive growth of capital society that
overpowers and endangers high culture; yet ambitious poets could not disregard the sign. An ideal
situation is that both modern technology and culture should grow at equal rate.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Just In Time Inventory...
Nissan has adopted many different process practices to assist their daily manufacturing functions.
Just in time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean are three theory concepts the firm
has implemented to ensure the company stays on track in order to meet their goals.
Just in time inventory management is a cost cutting inventory management strategy that results to
stock outs. It originally referred to the production of goods to meet customer demand exactly, in
time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer is the final purchaser of the product or another
process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method
ensured there wouldn t be an excess amount of inventory isn t sitting in the warehouse. When
properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan s competitiveness in the
marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of
production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with
just in time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not
deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the
production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply
chain
Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee
empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and
eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest
cost, and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high
cost and the level of complexity to implement the method.
The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all
products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean
like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer
focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer Render, 2014). By
implementing Lean Nissan can provide their customer what they want

Why Is Athens Better Than Sparta
Sparta and Athens were the two strongest city states and bitter rivals in ancient Greece, but who
was better? They had some similarities, but also many differences in culture, government, and
lifestyle. Over the years, they did not get along well together. Sparta was superior to Athens
because Sparta had superior training, had a more effective military, and gave women more freedom.
First of all, Sparta was superior to Athens because Sparta had superior training. The Spartans
feared that helots might soon rebel so the government firmly trained all men and boys for war.
The boys, who left their families when they were seven, were treated and trained aggressively so
they could become strong. The boys lived in barracks with the others that were also training. They
didn t sleep on your normal bed either. They lodged together in little bands upon beds made of the
reeds... which they were to break off with their hands without a knife. (Spartan Discipline, Plutarch)
The men, who entered the regular army when they were twenty, remained in barracks for 10
additional years. They could return home when they were thirty, but remained in the army until
they were sixty. Also, the men of Sparta were all treated the same... Show more content on

As a result of their superior training for war, Spartans became very successful. They won many
battles against other city states, such as the Peloponnesian War. Sparta made Athens surrender and
broke up their empire. Because of their defeat, they created their own empire. Although Sparta
ended up falling to another army led by Thebes, they were one of the most dominant groups in
ancient Greece. Because of their defeats, they also gained a lot of land. Sparta controlled about
two fifths of the Peloponnese. (Greek and Roman Civilizations, Mark Twain Media Inc. p11)
Unlike Sparta, Athens didn t train their young boys to fight. This was why Sparta was able to defeat

The Dangers Of Deforestation
As humanity becomes more advanced some people are forgetting to pay attention to the most
important thing, Earth. Humans are unintentionally causing irreversible damage to the surface of
the Earth. Deforestation is caused by the need for living space, wood, and other natural resources.
While clearing out forests, many species are going extinct because of habitat loss and pollution. In
other parts of the world, land degradation, which is caused by intense agricultural practices is
preventing food security in many developing countries. There is also the matter of desertification
which is caused by grazing, logging, and exploitation of underground water that limiting many
countries space to grow crops. In order to protect life on land we must conserve forests, combat
desertification, stop land degradation, and halt biodiversityloss. All around the world forests are
being cleared for their precious resources. In Brazil, the government has enforced a strict protected
area around the Amazon rainforest in order to preserve what is left. Although all forms of
protection limit deforestation, studies show that strictly protected areas provided more support for
forests than sustainable use areas that control resource extraction. Brazil had a record high of
deforestation rates in 2005 and with the enforcement, expansion, and strengthening of protected
areas by the government, they reduced it radically. Although strictly prohibited areas are
controversial because people rely on

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3)
and vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to
see how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot
the farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be
equal to the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the
amount of baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister
Goggles (eye protection)
Measuring tools
Methods:
1.Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm
2.Put 10mL vinegar in film canister
3.Measure baking soda, place in paper towel and fold it up
4.Put paper towel in canister and snap the lid on
5.Shake and point forward

The first rocket I shot went a length of 400cm. The canister rocket leaked vinegar and did not
launch until someone touched it. My second time shooting the canister rocket it did not launch
due to the leakage of vinegar. Although, another group with the same amount of baking soda had
a length of 268cm. The last time I shot the 5mL rocket I got a length of 572cm. This rocket did
not take as long to shoot and had less leakage than the other two times. The average of the baking
soda rockets in trial A without 0cm would be 486cm, but with the other group s length it would be

Pros And Cons Of Tanking
The idea of winning is one everyone enjoys. The feeling of winning is incomparable to anything
else, and overall creates everlasting memories. When a team can t win, it can be due to the talent,
the coaching staff, or overall just not being good enough. Consistently being atop the totem pole
that is the NBA is nearly impossible, but many teams have tried, similar to the Chicago Bulls, Los
Angeles Lakers, and the Boston Celtics. When a team is not good enough to win the NBA Finalsor
to even compete for a playoff berth, there are two paths those teams can take, to try their best to
win, or to tank. Tanking is the overall idea that teams lose games on purpose in order to better their
odds at getting a top draft pick (Thompson). Tanking is something that teams should not do, and is
something that should not be condoned (claim of policy). This could be done by changing the
overall dynamic of the draft lottery and perhaps putting into place things that penalize teams for
being awful. In the NBA, the worse the record a team has, the higher opportunity they have at
getting the number one overall pick and selecting what they claim to be the next Michael Jordan.
While the idea of doing that is a solid one, the odds of it happening and actually fully going through
with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it is near impossible to be a top end team in the NBA, there is no point in losing just to try
to get there. Teams that end up being successful get there through things like free agency, hitting
on later draft picks, or just having a valuable core of players stick around to try to bring a ring to
their hometown. Regardless of how good the team is, winning is what drives them. Competition
drives individuals to become better at what they do. The elation that comes with winning is
incredible and losing on purpose just to try to ensure future wins just doesn t make

What Would be Your Candidate s Position on the Death...
If You Were Running a Political Campaign, What Would be Your Candidate s Position on the Death
Penalty?
Abstract
... by taking the position of capital punishment reform, we feel that we can appease the most
people. Our candidate would risk alienating some of the more moderate voters if we recommended
a more radical stance. Our stance appeals to both sides because we do not abolish the death penalty
outright, nor do we leave the capital punishment situation unchanged. We will appease those
looking for abolishment by greatly restricting the use of the death penalty, and, as stated earlier,
eliminating most of the problems within the capital punishment system. And, we will appease those
who favor the status quo by not totally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to the death penalty in the United States, many people either believe that the key is
issue that the death penalty is needed because it properly punishes a criminal for the serious
offenses they commit, or cry afoul at the government for putting people to death, calling the death
penalty a human right s violation. The whole main issue boils down to a matter of life or death,
who has the right to live and who has the right to take life, when and why. The issue of the death
penalty becomes very complicated though when the grey areas are applied. The grey areas are
those thoughts and ideas that must be taken into account thus making the issue far more than black
and white.
The first grey area issue is that many people, especially in the more organized Christian
denominations, Baptists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans believe the death penalty is a just form of
punishment due to their moral teachings, especially that justice consists of the ideal an eye for an
eye (Heim 2), but they feel that it is unnecessarily used in the United States (Bedau). Therefore in
a case like this the argument of the death penalty s legality is no longer an issue, it becomes an
issue of in what cases can the death penalty be fairly implied (EWTN). This issue is rather
important because the majority of Americans with religious affiliations

Case Study Kassatly Chtaura
Q2:Various considerations Kassatly Chtaura management should consider in business expansion
decisions, and its implications of suggested strategy.
There are several factors needs to be considered in business expansion of Kassatly Chtaura
management. Company had started more than 20 year back and it stood in bad and good times in
Lebanon. Even though there was political and civil unrest, management strongly believed that it
lasts only few days and business has to continue and grow. Although business has profit and brand
reputation from its operations from Lebanon, civil war and political instability as affected its
business. Also the consumer market for RTD and beverage sector is not the high. So considering
about business expansion to Saudi Arabia or Angola who exports products from Kassatly Chtaura

Business expansion consideration and its strategy implications
Factors such as the costs, social situation understanding the culture, competition, labor force, rules

Comparing Xia Shu s Bow Hung On Two Metal Hooks At The...
Xia Shu s bow hung balanced on two metal hooks at the head of Jingyan s bed.
Plum Blossom Prelude echoed in his bedroom as Jingyan s fingers mindlessly flitted over the
holes of the jade flute. A memory long lost to time drifted back to him. During a ritualistic nightly
excursion with Xiao Shu outside of the imperial palace, Jingyan scraped his arm scaling a rock
wall and Xia Shu bandaged the wound with expert precision.
If you tie it this way, it stays firmly on without sacrificing breathability.
The knot was unique. Even Jingan couldn t learn to tie it the same way.

brother. Between my father and him, I must choose my father.
That s tragic, said Yuan. The man reached out and then drew his hand back as if a sparked jumped
from the bow, I shouldn t have touched
Turning away, Jingyan said, Perhaps, he no longer cares.
After a stretch of silence, Yuan said, May I take you somewhere, Your Highness?
In the expanse of dead trees and snow in front of them, a memorial stone was half visible under the
arch of a large, fallen branch. Both men landed on the ground from their flight over the walls of the
Court of Eternity. Once stable on the ground, Jingyan approached and brushed the layer of fallen
snow from the engraved memorial stone.

Greatness Nobility
Honorable Warrior of Liang Empire

Jingyan s throat seized up. His body is here?
Yuan nodded.
Cold seeped from the foot of snow and stone ground beneath him, biting through the thick layers of
his cloak and clothes as he pressed both his knees to the ground and knelt before Zhanying s grave.
Without a word, Jingyan bowed three times before the grave. After the last time,

Essay on The Decline of Indentures Servitude
The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic
factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers
to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming
independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude,
in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a
labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a
labor force that would satisfy their needs.
Before the 1680 s, indentured servitude was the primary source of labor in the newly developed
colonies. There were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africans were economically better, due to British control of the slave trade making black labor
cheaper.#
In the 1600 s, tobacco became the main source of income for most of the colonists. The
economic prosperity of the colonies was primarily dependent on the amount of tobacco
produced. The growing of tobacco needed large amount of land, with a large stable work force. The
increased demand for a large, stable work force combined with the availability and low price of
African slaves, led to the use of slavery in the colonies. To the planter, slavery was the ideal form
of labor that would be most beneficial to productivity of his crop.#
The key factor to the shift to African chattel slavery was the revolt known as Bacon s Rebellion
in 1676. Bacon was an English aristocrat who just came to Virginia Due to a disagreement with
royal governor William Berkeley, he gathered support from both white and black indentured
servants and began a series of revolts against the governor and the landowners. These revolts just
added to the preference for black labor and slavery. Even though Bacon died before anything
could happen, the threat of such a biracial alliance challenging the power of the master class
prompted the colony s elite to switch to an enslaved black labor force. The demand for black
slaves rose and this caused an increase of Africans into the colonies. By the 1700 s, slavery was
deep rooted in the colonies government.#

The Importance Of Education In High School
From a young age, I have always been encouraged by my parents to take advantage of every
educational opportunity that I could. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and
my father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the
importance of education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted
(CBG) program, and was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I
graduated from middle school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county,
which closely resemble colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of
academia. The Math and Science High Schoolat Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me
and I was a part of the competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my
education has always been a major part of my life, collegewas a given post high school plan for
me. The struggle from there became deciding which college best fit my personal academic
needs. The house I grew up in was surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and
had a small creek running through it. In reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was
where I fell in love with biology and marinelife. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood
knee deep in water, exploring the tiny tadpoles, crayfish, newts, lizards, and minnows that found
their home in the creek. Experiencing the life cycle of a frog

Pros And Cons Of Androcentricsim
Androcentricsim is a way to view the world but only through a masculine view. For decades,
women have not been seen as equals to mean but as the successors of men. This is no different
when it comes to studies made in medicine. It was believed that what treatments that were made
from men were just as effective for women. Androcentricism is a theory that is not as effective
as it has been in the past because it is violates the ethical principles of women. Medicines are
created to either help a citizen with chronic issues that he or she may face or to help relieve a
citizen of acute issues that he or she may be currently facing. These medications are not made
solely for men, but they are also made to for women as well. However, women have... Show more

The principle of nonmaleficence, the principle of beneficence, the principle of equality, and the
principle of autonomy are different principles that all correlate and that scientist restrict from

(Munson and Lague, page 933). However, harm to women occurs when women take dosages of
medications that are based around the size and build of men. Women are not made the same as
men, therefore their dosages should not be the same as men. The principle of beneficence is
connected to this principle because it ultimately means we should act in ways that promote the
welfare of other people (Munson and Lague, page 935). However, this principle is violated when
scientist do not take into consideration that a woman s side effects are not always the same as a
man, so their symptoms should be taken just as seriously as a man. The principle of equality is
connected to this principle because it ultimately means that all benefits and burdens are to be

equal benefits and burdens as men because they are restricted from the trials because they have

Malala Yousafzai Is Not An Average Teenager
Essay on I Am Malala (#2) As part of the Noble Committee, it has come to my understanding that
it is time to award the winner(s) of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. There have been a select few
who have earned the prize from human rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr., to the faithful and
compassionate Mother Teresa. In order to be awarded with this prize, our committee believes
that the candidate has made the world a better place while exhibiting the traits of wisdom,
experience, and ambition. This year, I would like to nominate Malala Yousafzai. Now, I
understand that my choice may be skeptical. After all, what has this seventeen year old done to
deserve such a prize? Most of the time, teenagers are found hanging out with friends, working part
time jobs, or tweeting about the latest celebrity drama. These teenagers are not concerned about
changing the world for the better. However, I argue that Malala Yousafzai is not an average
teenager. Malala Yousafzai is a young Pakistani woman, who I believe should earn the 2014 Nobel
Peace Prize. She fits the requirements of bringing peace and equality to the world, and
demonstrates courage by fighting for girls education. In addition, Malala faced two challenging
obstacles in her life. First of all, Malala understood that the Taliban s laws were biased, especially
the rules directed towards women. The Taliban is an Islamic terrorist organization that imposes a
strict interpretation of the Quran, the Muslim s holy book.

  • 2. The Code Math The final episode of The Code began with an ancient tale of an old exploration ship. They ship was in a storm and had no choice but to run aground and try to survive on an island waiting for help. After 8 months with no help and hostile natives, the captain of the ship told the native leader that if he didn t bring them food then their god would consume the moon. The captain of the ship watched as his predictions came true and the moon began to disappear. The native leader brought them food because they were scared. The reason the captain knew the moon would disappear was because he used math and had a lunar table which means he knew when the eclipse would happen. This was an old example of how math was used and history and very interesting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using certain probability equations, investigators can use them to determine why or where a criminal will attack next. These mathematical principle are very useful in tracking down serial killers. Serial killers are thought to be very random but actually there is usually a rhyme or reason for choosing the people that they kill. These equations have been designed to predict where they might strike next. This example is another great example of how math is used in the real world. It shows how humans aren t even aware of the patterns we live. It truly is almost impossible for a human to be completely random. One line that stood out to me in this episode was when Mr. Du Sautoy said life is random, it s chaos . This means that while life may seem completely random, in reality almost everything can be predicted. It s just the slightest shift of one of any number of factors that can throw something into a completely different direction. I thought that this was a very interesting and thought provoking phrase. The next thing Mr. Du Sautoy talked about was the butterfly effect. This is the idea that one small thing could have greater effects on another thing over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neighborhoods can be categorized into three subjects; upper class, middle class, underclass. With this noted, one theory about neighborhoods is its relations with race and income. As Reynold Farley discussed, ...the moves people make and assess the extent to which neighborhood racial composition, independent of a variety of other individual and neighborhood characteristics, leads people to make housing decisions that, taken together, contribute to persistent patterns of segregation. Continuing this theorem, the cause and effect of these categories will cause social inequality, discrimination, and lastly social deprivation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Choice And Agency In The Matrix Trilogy As Dr. Mike Sosteric sagaciously suggests, the Matrix trilogy is a comprehensive metaphor for modern capitalistic society (Sosteric, 2015). In the simplest discernment, the Matrix trilogy reveals that the mass majority is either unaware of, or indifferent to, the extent that they are controlled by the uppermost in society. Furthermore, the concepts put forth in the Matrixtrilogy relate to a multitude of the concepts introduced specifically in this unit, and the course in its entirety. These concepts include, but are not limited to, agency, choice, power, propaganda, resistance, mobilization, demobilization, ideology, and religion. To begin with, regarding choice and agency, one part of the Matrix that resonates with me is when the Merovingian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That being the definition of a sport clearly explains that the UFC is indeed a sport. It takes a lot of skill with years of practice to be a fighter. It is extremely competitive and extraneous. A sport is not defined by the danger, but of the core principles of fun, of competition. Regardless, danger is not something to live by, yet something to live for. Danger has the power to control someone s life, but people such as UFC fighters have taken a stand to do what they enjoy as a career without the worry of fear or danger. There are plenty of dangerous sports that aren t well known. For example, there is: Deep sea diving, mountain climbing, base jumping, street Luge, and bull riding. There are countless sport that pose a danger to anyone that participates. The Language of Romeo and Juliet in the Balcony Scene Act II Scene 2 is one of the most famous scenes of Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet. It is commonly known as the Balcony Scene because Juliet appears on a small balcony outside her bedroom window, and exchanges words, expresses true love with Romeo who is standing below in her father s orchard. The scene is famous for its moving and vivid images, used to express love between two people of contrasting nature. In my study I will compare the language of Romeo and Juliet in this famous scene. The percent composition of copper in copper (I) sulfate was 40.58% and in copper (II) sulfate it was 25.46%. Later, I calculated that the percent of copper in the lab was 26.13%. This percent shows that copper (II) sulfate was used in this experiment because 26.13% was closer to 25.46% than 40.58%. If iron (II) sulfate and copper metal is the product of copper (?) sulfate and iron metal, then copper (?) sulfate has a charge of 2+. The mass of dry filter paper (1.18 g), the mass of copper sulfate (3.10 g), the mass of iron (0.70 g), total reaction time (129 s), the mass of dry filter paper/copper (1.99 g), and the mass of copper produced (0.81 g). ... The only source of error is not putting all the copper sulfate in the water and this could have a high but low effect. It could have changed the results by a lot or a little because the putting less than was called for made the mass smaller than it is. The percent error is 34.14%. One question that the experiment generate was how did a chemical reaction take place? I did not understand how the metals and compounds used in this lab could make a chemical reaction like color change. One thing that I understand is that my group could have done better. If I had the opportunity to repeat the experiment, I would follow the procedure more thoroughly, measure the mass of the materials more precisely, and actually pour all the materials into the right places. If I do these things right, then the results will be closer to the actual results than what I got during my experiment. From this experiment, I learned many things. I learned that I need to be more precise to get the best results in this experiment. You will need to measure the amounts to what is asked to be able to the right results. Between the years 2000 and 2001 Ernst and Young, Price Waterhouse Cooper, and Arthur Anderson were involved in cases that proved the need for an oversight board (Coates, 2007). Ernst and Young settled a shareholder lawsuit for $335 million; Price WaterHouse Cooper was found to have over 8,000 instances where their auditors held stock in the company they were auditing even though it was a violation of SEC rules; and the SEC charged Arthur Anderson with fraud. The story revolves around a woman named Mrs. Mallard, who gets informed that her husband had passed away after an accident, though we later find out that was false information. Although, before she found out it was false, her sister, Josephine, and her friend, Richards, try to break the news of her husband s death to Mrs. Mallard as gently as possible since it was described in the first sentence that Mrs. Mallad was afflicted with hearttrouble . There are two possible meaning to this expression. Firstly, it could be taken literally, and she probably has heart diseasewhich she has to be medicated for and she has to adapt her lifestyle around. But as we read more of the story, we find out that this expression is in fact a metaphor for Mrs. Mallard s suffering and the burden she has to carry in her heart every day because of her husband and because of being in an environment where she doesn t have any self expression or any opportunity to fulfill what her heart greatly desires. When her husband died , she cried, but then she came to the realization that perhaps his death could be a positive thing for her since we get hints in the story that she might not have had a good marriage and she probably feels free without him ( And yet she had loved him sometimes. There were five victims and one survivor. The victims had six slashes and six stabs to the heart. The slashes ranged from one to three inches deep into the flesh. He also carved a satanic star in the top of each victim s head. All this shows that the killer is psychotic, that was abundantly clear, and more than likely very dangerous to the public. I have to stop whoever did this fast before he strikes again. As I was finishing up looking threw the house to make sure there was no more evidence in the house. The whole house was full of blood splatters all over the walls. We concluded that the murderer had some sort of relation with all the victims because of how brutal the attacks were on each one. Someone yelled, Jason come here quick you might like what I found, I went over and saw a mask thought of this odd and came to the conclusion that it was the killer s mask. • 22. The Relationship Between Art And Commerce Historically, the relationship between art and commerce has been viewed as hierarchical. In this hierarchy of power, commerce dominates art and negatively influences artistic and creative potential of the art while art is viewed as a form of creative and cultural luxury that needs protection from external corruption. This argument has been brought up continually in academia, all similarly suggesting that there is something inherent in commerce and economics that undermines the purpose and authenticity of art. Whether this be the classic Bourdieun analysis of for profit industries and their negative influence on art culture or the modern day parent who views the popular music and culture of her child s generation as absent of value, there is a consistent contention at the core of commerce and arts relationship. While I undoubtedly agree that the politics of commerce and commercial activity has an effect on art, I do not believe that art therein lacks value because it was produced by a commercial entity or for profit. In this paper, I will argue that the contemporary relationship between art and commerce is one in which commerce does not domineer art and art culture but rather preserves and sustains it. Throughout the historical debate of this topic, many fallacies about the relationship between art and commerce have presented themselves. One of the most common misconceptions about this relationship is that commerce controls and debases art. Rather than a harmonious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Was The 95 Theses Important 95 Theses Essay: The 95 Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences are the things that Martin Luther, a priest and professor of theology, wrote in 1517 to express what he thought was wrong with the Catholic Church. The 95 Theses were held in one of Europe s largest collections of holy relics, the All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Saxony, which was part of the Holy Roman Empire. The 95 Theses were lists of questions to debate upon. These Theses mostly targeted the validity of the indulgences performed by the Pope, which were sold to people who thought that paying money erased sin, the authority of the Pope and the nature of which a person confesses to a priest and is given absolution, or penance, and even baptisms. But they also attacked how much power the Pope had. He thought that the Bible was the religious answer and that humans could only reach salvation through faith alone. This was considered the catalyst to the Protestant Reformation which changed religious and cultural history in the West. The importance of the 95 Theses was that it got word around that maybe the Pope was wrong and that the Bible was where you needed to go for answers when you felt sinful. ... History of the Traditional School Calendar Essay History of the Traditional School Calendar The American educational system is based on the traditional, nine month school calendar, which has been in place for over a century. Originally, the United States was an agrarian society. The majority of Americans lived on farms. People made most of the items that they needed, and with little trade necessary, there was no need for schooling (McLain, 1973). However, as people branched out into neighboring areas, they needed to learn new skills, such as basic arithmetic to price items, measure land, and more (McLain, 1973). As a result, it became the responsibility of those who were less needed on the farm or in the factory to acquire knowledge for the family (McLain, 1973). Accordingly, ... It is important to note that year round schools have the same number of days in a calendar year as does the traditional school year. However, the days are distributed throughout the year. Year round schools differ from traditional schools in a variety of ways. Single Track Calendar In order to accommodate the year round calendar, there are several forms of year round education. The first form follows a single track calendar. This is the most popular type of calendar (Shields, 2000). A single track year is usually implemented to provide a more balanced and enriched education program or to accommodate the special scheduling needs of a community (Glines, 2002, 2699). A single track calendar takes on a 45/15 design. This is where students go to school for forty five days in a row, and then have a fifteen day break. It is a continuous cycle. Schools usually begin in early August, and follow this pattern four times to complete the school year (Glines, 2002). The three week break in between is called an intersession. Gifted programs are good programs but there are things that could make your child feel pressured and they may want to leave the program. To get into the programs depending on the district you are in there could be discrimination to be accepted or recommended to test for it. This discrimination could be based on race, income, gender, or ethnicity, if you re in a school district that lets you apply without being recommended then you won t have to worry about this. Studies show that in Broward County they started with teachers recommended students and then changed their system to where any students could apply to the gifted programs and there was a major increase in low income, latino, and black students that were accepted. In most districts there are not full time gifted programs, so there are pull out enrichment programs, which are groups of kids that get taken with a gifted resource teacher and get taught in the small group, missing class time. Another option if there a full time gifted program is to skip grades, which isn t a very good decision because although your student is gifted they still need to know the information from the grade they skip. • 35. The Three Main Causes Of The Civil War The North and South citizens were divided because of their huge differences. The tension between them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences. The hate and violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War, also known as the War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war of disputes and misery led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery. The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about politics. During the election of 1860, Abraham Lincolnwas a candidate of the North while J.C. Breckinridge was the candidate of the South. Abraham Lincoln successfully won with 180 electoral votes. This caused tension between the North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the expansion of slavery (Doc N). The Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The act organized territories on the principle of popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T. In this poem, Pound revealed his disagreement with industrial society. The poem is an imitation of other old poetic styles, or epic style; however, it presents ironic meaning. To fully understand Pounds divergence from modern culture, the ways of presenting his position will be firstly explained. Next, the focus is on the contrast between the elitist and popular culture. The focus of Ezra Pound s cultural conflict is the contrast between high culture and popular culture. And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern technological advance in human history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not only changed people s life but also influenced the way of thinking. As a result, materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized areas. With the advance of technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side, but decreased the spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western civilization rather than the physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with his historical situation not by abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in ironic contrast to the products of modern culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror, reflects cultural facts of its contemporary period, and Pound considered the art of a society to be an index to its vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, there is a clear line between elitist and popular art, or the ideal and the reality. This kind of distinction is the result of explosive growth of capital society that overpowers and endangers high culture; yet ambitious poets could not disregard the sign. • 42. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Just In Time Inventory... Nissan has adopted many different process practices to assist their daily manufacturing functions. Just in time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean are three theory concepts the firm has implemented to ensure the company stays on track in order to meet their goals. Just in time inventory management is a cost cutting inventory management strategy that results to stock outs. It originally referred to the production of goods to meet customer demand exactly, in time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer is the final purchaser of the product or another process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method ensured there wouldn t be an excess amount of inventory isn t sitting in the warehouse. When properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan s competitiveness in the marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with just in time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply chain Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest cost, and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high cost and the level of complexity to implement the method. The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer Render, 2014). When a team can t win, it can be due to the talent, the coaching staff, or overall just not being good enough. Consistently being atop the totem pole that is the NBA is nearly impossible, but many teams have tried, similar to the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Boston Celtics. When a team is not good enough to win the NBA Finalsor to even compete for a playoff berth, there are two paths those teams can take, to try their best to win, or to tank. Tanking is the overall idea that teams lose games on purpose in order to better their odds at getting a top draft pick (Thompson). Tanking is something that teams should not do, and is something that should not be condoned (claim of policy). This could be done by changing the overall dynamic of the draft lottery and perhaps putting into place things that penalize teams for being awful. In regards to the death penalty in the United States, many people either believe that the key is issue that the death penalty is needed because it properly punishes a criminal for the serious offenses they commit, or cry afoul at the government for putting people to death, calling the death penalty a human right s violation. The whole main issue boils down to a matter of life or death, who has the right to live and who has the right to take life, when and why. The issue of the death penalty becomes very complicated though when the grey areas are applied. The grey areas are those thoughts and ideas that must be taken into account thus making the issue far more than black and white. The first grey area issue is that many people, especially in the more organized Christian denominations, Baptists, Episcopalians, and Lutherans believe the death penalty is a just form of punishment due to their moral teachings, especially that justice consists of the ideal an eye for an eye (Heim 2), but they feel that it is unnecessarily used in the United States (Bedau). • 55. Pros And Cons Of Androcentricsim Androcentricsim is a way to view the world but only through a masculine view. For decades, women have not been seen as equals to mean but as the successors of men. This is no different when it comes to studies made in medicine. It was believed that what treatments that were made from men were just as effective for women. Androcentricism is a theory that is not as effective as it has been in the past because it is violates the ethical principles of women. Medicines are created to either help a citizen with chronic issues that he or she may face or to help relieve a citizen of acute issues that he or she may be currently facing. These medications are not made solely for men, but they are also made to for women as well. However, women have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The principle of nonmaleficence, the principle of beneficence, the principle of equality, and the principle of autonomy are different principles that all correlate and that scientist restrict from women. The overall definition of the principle of nonmaleficence means above all, do no harm (Munson and Lague, page 933). However, harm to women occurs when women take dosages of medications that are based around the size and build of men. Women are not made the same as men, therefore their dosages should not be the same as men. The principle of beneficence is connected to this principle because it ultimately means we should act in ways that promote the welfare of other people (Munson and Lague, page 935). However, this principle is violated when scientist do not take into consideration that a woman s side effects are not always the same as a man, so their symptoms should be taken just as seriously as a man. The principle of equality is connected to this principle because it ultimately means that all benefits and burdens are to be distributed equally (Munson and Lague, page 939). Women are not given the opportunity to have equal benefits and burdens as men because they are restricted from the trials because they have child bearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Darling Taboo In American Culture Once Darling leaves Zimbabwe, she no longer has a country to call home, similar to the chapter How They Lived, when the refugees can t go home, but don t consider America their home either. Darling is in limbo, she cannot claim Zimbabwe as her country anymore but she still refuses to claim America as her country and is even pushed away by the American culture. She no longer fits anywhere. Darling is at a wedding for her Aunt s ex boyfriend, Dumi, who has married an obese, white woman. During the reception, the bride s son, Mandla, throws a ball that hits Darling in the eye and her response, instinctive from her time in Zimbabwe, is to slap him. Only when she does, she realizes that this is considered taboo in American culture and she has done something that is very wrong in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 57. Malala Yousafzai Is Not An Average Teenager Essay on I Am Malala (#2) As part of the Noble Committee, it has come to my understanding that it is time to award the winner(s) of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. There have been a select few who have earned the prize from human rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr., to the faithful and compassionate Mother Teresa. In order to be awarded with this prize, our committee believes that the candidate has made the world a better place while exhibiting the traits of wisdom, experience, and ambition. This year, I would like to nominate Malala Yousafzai. Now, I understand that my choice may be skeptical. After all, what has this seventeen year old done to deserve such a prize? Most of the time, teenagers are found hanging out with friends, working part time jobs, or tweeting about the latest celebrity drama. These teenagers are not concerned about changing the world for the better. However, I argue that Malala Yousafzai is not an average teenager. Malala Yousafzai is a young Pakistani woman, who I believe should earn the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. She fits the requirements of bringing peace and equality to the world, and demonstrates courage by fighting for girls education. In addition, Malala faced two challenging obstacles in her life. First of all, Malala understood that the Taliban s laws were biased, especially the rules directed towards women. The Taliban is an Islamic terrorist organization that imposes a strict interpretation of the Quran, the Muslim s holy book. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
