Vietnam Memorial Dbq
Vietnam Memorial Rough Draft
The Vietnam War was gruesome and it was terrible for the United States. A little after the war ended,
there was a contest for the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. Maya Lin was chosen as the
designer of the memorial, but John Carhart has some problems with her design. After reading Carhart
s article, he does make some good points about the memorial, but others are not quite right.
The Vietnam Memorial is a very effective memorial. The main goal of Maya Lin for choosing this
design is for everyone that goes there is to resolve and come to terms with their losses. It is a quiet
place meant for personal reflection and private reckoning (Source D). This is why she chose the
simple, clean design of it being black with white letters. Black can be considered a very depressing
color, so it adds to the effect and the feeling that this memorial should give someone. The thing that
makes it very special is that it honors the dead instead of the living. This memorial has every single
name of a fallen soldier that fought in the Vietnam War. Also, the design is good because it is different
from all the other memorials in D.C. Every other memorial recognizes the great ... Show more content

John Carhart said, The jurors know nothing of the real war in Vietnam the television portrayal was far
from adequate. The net result is that the design the jury chose as the winner was necessarily a function
of their perception of the war they lived through in America (Source E). There were really two wars
going on at this point. The first one was a military war fought in Vietnam and the other was a political
war going on here at home (Source E). When the civilians who voted for the memorial, they only
knew and experienced the political war. If veterans would have chosen the design, it would not be this
one. People who lived through the war, like John Carhart, should have chosen what the design would

Neighborhood Watch:
Let s Partner with Law Enforcement: Let s Be Vigilant: Let s Legislate!
By: Shelly Ray
Date: 07/15/13
Over the weekend, the nation watched and listened as the Not Guilty verdict was read for second
degree murder and manslaughter charges in the case of George Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman is the 29
year old neighborhood watchman man and man who fired the fatal shot of 17 year old Trayvon Martin
on the evening of February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida. The subject I will bring before you is that of
a personal interest, for I live in a gated community that has a neighborhood watch program.

Last and certainly not least I respect and abide by the laws of our country. If each municipal local
governing agency would pass legislation to ensure the safety of neighborhoods, communities,
civilians, law enforcement and government officials under due proper guidelines, all will have
knowledge of what can and can not be done as a neighborhood watch person. The National Institute of
Justice prepared a report to the United States Congress entitled Preventing Crime: What Works; What
Doesn t; What s Promising. The primary conclusion of the report found that in part enacting programs
in different local communities sometimes work, sometimes don t work in curving crime and in
monitoring the effectiveness of community organizations and neighborhood watch programs. The
report dug into the monies spent for federally to be used in local communities. In 1996, $1.4 billion
was used in funding of local police by the Office for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS),
and $1.8 billion in local crime prevention assistance funding of a wide range of institutions by the
Office for Justice Programs (OJP). Although funding is still being received and legislation being
enacted, it is primarily up to local communities to pass legislation that is in the best interest of all of
the citizens in each respective community.
In Conclusion, our society has a fundamental principal that says I am my brother s keeper. The

Main Characters In The Land Of Stories A Grimm Warning
In the book, The Land of Stories A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer, the main character, Rook,
changes throughout the book due to the conflicts he faces.
To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly Alex;
the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her figure out
why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I was going to
suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto her farmand have
a look around. (Colfer 135). In this piece of evidence Rook is helping Alex go see what Little Bo Peep
could be upto. He and Alex then go to her farm and look around. He helped her discover something
she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his idea. Rook and Alex did have a
crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do this as something to impress her,
but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex could have never found this out. She
pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her arms around his neck. She had held it together
very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer

Rook she immediately felt joy for one of the first times that day. Rook helped her relax and he also

The Revolution And Its Effects On The American Revolution
It is generally agreed upon that the Revolution was guaranteed even foretold since the idea of settling
on it was even suggested no one can give a large group of people the idea to run themselves and still
keep control from thousands of miles away. England had it, but lost that control of their child nation in
1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the notion that they had the power and
authority to independently run the budding country. After being allowed this minute freedom, the
colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts of an iron fist hold on the Americas
and along with their opposing views on nearly everything, decided that they were no longer pleased
with being considered British. Salutary neglect also contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride
aptly named because at this time England neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual
theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too
much for them to go back to how things were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At
this time, the colonists started a war to free themselves. Parliamentary taxation was the catalyst to the
slew of problems the Americans were having with their over seas overlords. The preliminary
Parliament imposed tax that threatened the colonies was the Molasses Act, which was caused by profit
loss for the British under the Navigation Acts, and their need to recoup

Compare And Contrast Gasoline Cars Vs Electric Cars
Which do you think is better for the environment: an electric powered car or a gasoline powered car?
Many people would automatically assume that the electric car would be much more efficient in
keeping our environment clean. The truth is, this assumption is not necessarily correct, as electric cars
can be just as bad, if not even worse, than their gasoline counterparts. For example, they burn fossil
fuels just like gasoline cars do to produce the electricity to power the car anyways. That power must
come from somewhere, and that somewhere is in a power plant that burns fossil fuels just like the gas
car engines. Also, having the government subsidize this new market is causing quite a bit of debt.
Taxpayers are paying for the production of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because they do not burn fuel directly within the engine itself does not mean that it does not
require said fuel to run. The electricity that power these cars comes from power plants that burn fossil
fuels to produce the electricity to power the cars. This electricity then must change forms once again
when the electricity is then converted to chemical energy to charge the battery and again when this
energy is converted to power the engine. In total, 75% of the energy is lost to form changes, leaving
only 25% to run the car. Additionally, taxpayers are paying the government, which is using that money
to fund the marketing of electric cars. The federal government is in $15 trillion of debt all for an idea
that electric cars are more green , even though most Americans do not even have the money to
purchase an electric car. Finally, natural gas would work much better than electric or fossil fuel
powered cars. It gives off far less carbon emissions and reduces nitrogen oxide, particulate matter,
hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and greenhouse gas emissions, which can

Oracle Vapors In Ancient Greek
Exercise 2.5
In the origins of Greece, ancient Greek mythology and sources have explained incidents of the oracles
of Delphi. The Delphic oracles were primarily female prophets who were told to have inhaled certain
vapors from a spring in the temple of the Greek god, Apollo, which allowed the prophets to serve as a
supernatural connection to the specific God. Despite the historical evidence that supports the idea of
the mysterious oracle vapors, modern day archeologists and geologists rejected the idea completely.
Many of the rejections are due to the lack of archeological findings of vapors at Delphi. Two men by
the name of Jelle Zeilinga De Boer, a chemist, and John Hale, an archeologist, had then stepped up to
study both the geological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the Greek government standpoint, if they allow De Boer and Hale to proceed with their
research, they would not have to worry about cost because both men are willing to do the research for
free. If anything, the Greek governments has nothing to lose, and should not have a problem with
allowing the two scientists to carry out their research. By granting Hale and De Boer the freedom to
go on with their research, Greece would be able to gain potential benefits. If Hale and De Boer are
successful in proving emission of ethylene gas from the oracle at Delphi, it will provide Greece with
more historical value and significance of the Apollo temple.
Moreover, Greece will even be able to discover whether or not the faults under Delphi contained
ethylene and prove the idea that the Oracle of Delphi may have inhaled the fumes in order to make
prophecies. Lastly, to find where De Boar and Hale precisely mention the benefits and costs of their
research in their proposal, it can easily be pointed out under the Background section. In the
Background section, De Boer and Hale provide their audience with basic background information on
the Oracle at Delphi, the vapors released from the temple, and evidence that goes against the original

Three Examples Of Racial Discrimination In The Workplace
When I think of racial discrimination, I automatically include prejudice and stereotyping. I believe
that these go hand in hand and without one the others are irrelevant. Meaning, if we did not have racial
discrimination, prejudice and stereotyping would not exist. This is my personal belief. The definition
of race in our class book is as follows Race typically refers to appearances, such as skin color, hair
type (straight, curly, kinky), skin hue, eye color, stature, body size, nose, eyes, and head shape
(Robinson Wood, 2008). So racial discrimination could be defined as unequal treatment on the
premise of their race or ethnicity (Pager and Shepherd, 2008).
This paper will provide three examples of racial discrimination based on my experience or acts of
racial discrimination I have witnessed. I will begin with racial discrimination within my family,

Both Kim and Heather tried to apologize, but, my decision was to not have that type of negativity in

based on the hair and personal hygiene of African Americans.
Workplace Because I was a stay at home mom for most of my life, I have not had an opportunity to
witness any racial discrimination at the few jobs I did have. However, in attendance of a salon a few
years ago, I did witness racial discrimination while receiving a pedicure in Texas. The salon was
owned and operated by a Philippine brother and sister. I really enjoyed attending this salon, before the
incident I am going to describe, the brother and sister appeared to be open minded and free from
prejudice. The brother was so funny and upbeat. He would get the entire salon, laughing; until this

A Brief Look At The Historical View Of Conditional Election
A brief look at the historical view of conditional election that is briefly stated with Scriptures that is
used today. Giving evidence, that conditional is better than unconditional as in the Five Points of
Calvinism. Though the Bible obviously demonstrates that God selects individuals to redemption, there
are two differences as to the foundation of election. Conditional election is the idea that God choose
individuals for redemption centered on His omniscience of who want to place their belief in Jesus. The
free will of man plays into the scope of eternity. Historical View
Origen was one of the original to believe that predestination and will of man plays an important role in
the doctrine of election. The Scripture he uses is 2 Timothy 2:20 21 to where men can be saved. John
Chrysostom endorsed the thought on how salvation is performed. Semi Pelagians also opposed
unconditional because of human freedom and preaching would be pointless. The Catholics believe the
part of free choice and being in the grace of God. James Arminius disagreed with Calvinist on a few
issues like atonement and will of man. He formulated major proclamations of the process of salvation.
James articles were dismissed at Synod of Dort for being against the Scriptures and where the articles
from Calvin were accepted for the churches to teach. John Wesley was strongly against unconditional
and Calvinism that he gave reasons why the theory

Why Is It Important To Follow Directions
Why is it important to follow directions? It is important to follow direction because if people didn t
follow directions, we would have a lot of raucous. The reason why we would have raucous is because
kids would have an even more high risk of doing drugs at really young ages and a more higher risk of
homeless people, more deaths from walking streets unintended, and more. The reason it is important
to follow directions is because for instance, if you walk across the street. If there s no speed limit, red
lights, stop signs, or anything, you would be seriously injured. Another reason following rules is
important is because if there was a man to have a weapon to put everyone lives in danger. If the kid
was to not pay attention to any of the drills given, he would be harmed or even kidnapped. For
example, that s what Mrs. Golden is always telling middle school students because we don t follow

Taking a Look at Cervical Spondylodiscitis
Conclusion
Cervical spondylodiscitis is a rare and serious illness that can arise from various causes, such as
pyogenic infections, iatrogenic infections and complications after swallowing foreign bodies. No cases
of cervical spondylodiscitis caused by a penetrating neck injury have been published in the literature.
It is difficult to treat patients with penetrating neck injuries (induced by stab wound, gunshot wound or
by accidents) in the emergency department. Diagnostic and treatment options depend on the
cardiopulmonary condition of the patient.
In a patient who presents unstable hemodynamic conditions, prompt surgical neck exploration is
necessary. The optimal surgical approach depends on the anatomical zone of the injury. Most injuries
can be reached through an anterior sternocleidomastoid incision. Sometimes, a median sternotomy,
supraclavicular incision, transverse cervical collar incision or manipulations of the mandible are
necessary to reach the origin of the vessel injury (11).
For patients in stable condition with a suspected vessel injury, computed tomographic angiography
(CTA) is recommended to detect the direct and indirect signs of vessel injury. A CT scan could
decrease the likelihood of a negative neck exploration (13, 14). Nevertheless, Gonzalez et al showed
in a prospective study that not all vessel injuries and esophageal injuries due to penetrating zone II
injuries could be detected using a dynamic CT scan or esophagography (15).

Analysis Of Hajime Isayama s Novel Attack On Titan
Graphic artist Hajime Isayama s best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a walled
community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids Titans that consume humans (Isayama,
2014). Hot headed 13 year old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist, who pledges his life to the
military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren s noble dedication is fueled by the multiple traumas
he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk factors such as becoming orphaned at age
8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits
increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren
eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental figure, which together produce
protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as physical and psychological safety. An
analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several
types of psychopathy.
The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to
developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental
categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr. Grisha Jäger
exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a doctor during
Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Subsequently, the diathesis

Different Types Of Nerve Cells
Nerve Cells
Nerve cells are crucial to all living organisms because they serve as a messenger in the different parts
of the body. There are three different types of nerve cells (neurons) sensory neurons, motor neurons,
and association neurons. All three of these types come together in order to allow the body to function
properly. Without neurons the body wouldn t have the ability to know when there is illumination or
warmth in or outside the body, know how to perform functions in the other parts of the body (such as
muscles),or have these two things work together to know what the other is doing.
Sensory neurons have importance because they allow your body to have the five physical senses,

One important sensory neuron that everyone is very familiar with is tastebuds. Tastebuds are
extremely sensitive neurons that have a built in pH detector. That is why the more acidic something is
the more sour it taste and when sodium ions increase this is what makes food have a salty taste.
Sensory neurons are crucial to the body for maintaining homeostasis by providing organisms with
skills that we need.
The second kind of neuron that is also very important to organisms is motor neurons. Motor neurons
are responsible for the movement of organisms. If our body didn t form motor neurons we wouldn t
have the ability to talk, eat, life, drink, walk, and any other kind of simple movements. According to
Daniel Liden, a freelance journalist, motor neurons directly or indirectly controls the contraction or
relaxation of muscles (Liden, para 1.) Motor neurons are also sometimes referred to as efferent
neurons. Motor neurons bring information made by the central nervous system to the different muscles
in the body. There are three different kinds of motor neurons. The three different kinds are somatic,
specific visceral, and general visceral. Somatic motor neurons are used for forming skeletal muscles
and movement in the body. Specific visceral motor neurons are important in vertebrates for the
movement of neck muscles and facial muscles. Specific visceral neurons are important to sea animals
for the movement of gills. The last kind of motor neurons, general visceral, are

Saltwater Crocodile Research Paper
The Saltwater Crocodile The saltwater crocodile is one of the largest non mammalian creatures. It also
lives to about 70 years and weighs about 1200 pounds for a male, and 200 pounds for a female. The
length of a male varies between 14 17 ft. While the females length is between 7.5 11 ft. All of these
numbers are of averages of adult saltwater crocodiles. Now I will compare four systems of a crocodile
to a human. In the circulatory system, the crocodile has a four chambered heart, as well as a double
looped circulatory system. They breathe using their lungs in and under water. The saltwater crocodile
can be submerged for quite a while. Up to 8 hours as the longest recording ever known. They use
conservation of the oxygen and can survive in some sub temperature ponds. This occurs when the
crocodile heads too far north. As for humans, we can obviously breathe using our lungs as well.

Bells for John Whiteside s Daughter by John Crowe Ransom
John Crowe Ransom was one of the most influential writers of his time. As a poet, essayist, and
teacher at Vanderbilt University and Kenyon College, Ransom was one of the prominent leaders of the
Fugitive Agrarians and the founder of the New Criticism school of literary criticism and the literary
journal, Kenyon Review. His works fall into many different literary movements but the majority of his
poems fall within the Fugitive Agrarianism, now known as the Southern Renaissance, movement that
emphasized classicism and traditionalism. The writers that were part of the Southern Renaissance,
including Ransom, gathered to write a collection of essays that promoted and revitalized Southern
literature in the United States. They were known for representing the tensions and paradoxes that
resulted from the collision of Northern and Southern ideologies (Holmgren para. 3). Comparably, the
Fugitive agrarians emphasized traditional poetic forms and techniques, and their poems developed
intellectual and moral themes focusing on an individual s relationship to society and to the natural
world (Davis para. 1). Both groups were especially focused on the intrusion of Northern industrialism
and destruction of Southern agrarian culture. Ransom uses bursts of imagery of rural life that reflects
the agricultural aspects that the Southern Renaissance movement stressed. He channels a lot of natural
scenery in his poem, Miriam Tazewell, but a darker and more gruesome stage in Winter

Film Analysis
There is always a time and place for everything, no matter where we are in this world. Sometimes, it
takes the smallest and the largest of things to really find yourself in this vast society. One of those
things is filming, otherwise known as film in general. Throughout the world, there are people who
direct films to often give a story that captivates us. In these films, we not only see what the Director
sees in his eyes, but we also see life in its finest detail. Capturing the life that moves around us is an
art and when we fully take the advantage of remembering our past, not only will we be able to
encounter the days of our past, but we will be able to look towards the future as well.
When we look at the films that countless of Directors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of sociology has to do with the society as a whole, while the study of psychology has to do
with the human behavior. In film, we look at the psychological reading of characters. In many films
where the setting takes place in a hospital or a dark house, we usually see characters with abnormal
features that often frighten people. Edward Scissor Hands is a good example. Although the story of
Scissor Hands was well written and well established, the concept of the character left a horrifying
remark. In many cases, the way a character is developed often leads to a specific genre being picked.
The way we look into the human behavior of a character can differ from each person. Sometimes you
will have one person view the characters development on how they changed, while another will
simply look at how the character is portrayed throughout the film. Either way, both methods are
correct in looking into the human behavior of one specific character. Using this type of analysis can be
an advantage as in international cinema, we are privy to experiencing and learning about many
different characters that are often introduced

The Collapse of the Madoff Pyramid Essay
Our economy has been built upon for decades creating growth within the business industry.
Businesses provide jobs, finances, and security for individual s within society and is a main source of
what defines our prosperous country. Every business has an ethical responsibility to its members and
employee s and to society at large. Ethical responsibility is a major component in which society needs
to reinforce because it helps create principles, values, and standards, all of which help to guide a
person s behavior (Ferrel et al. 2013). Ethics help to create balance which in turn will have positive
results for the business versus negative results. It seems that no matter where we look today,

Madoff had an exaggerated feeling of self importance. In understanding how he became unethical
within his business, it is important to gain insight into the history of the business and its impeccable
growth. Madoff opened his firm, Madoff Investment Securities, in 1960 (The Madoff). The firm began
honest growth when his father in law Saul Alpern, joined to the firm as an accountant. During this
time, there were a plethora of competing firms on the New York Stock Exchange, so to gain a
competitive edge, Madoff s firm began using innovative computer information technology to
disseminate its quotes. The technology his firm developed proved to be so successful, that it became
the NASDAQ (Weiner). The development of this technology provided the firm with exceptional
income and drove his firm to become one of the most successful on Wall Street. Unfortunately, the
firm s success was not enough for Madoff and in the early 1990 s he transitioned from an influential
trader to a fabricator of returns by creating the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Madoff claimed to
combine blue chip securities with derivatives to hedge risk, which provided rock solid and steady
returns, even in down markets. This easily sold his client into investing significant amounts of money,
and for some, their life savings. What Madoff s investors did not realize was that, in reality, the returns

I ve been hired by cities mayor and am now the newest economics consultant charged with analyze the

different market structures. There are large factories or plants, almost every chain fast food restaurant,
nicer sit down restaurants, mom and pop shops, along with our share of Wal Mart s and other larger all

strong economical foundation fueled by a good sized population to keep many businesses from having
to look too far for employees. New businesses have opened recently and are thriving. With keeping a
good mix of market structures the economy will continue to grow. Multiple market structures will help
to create a thriving economy, although they are all different, they provide income to the city in way of
taxes, employment to our citizens, and understanding how each operates and prices their goods can
help this city prepare for its financial future. We will need to analyze each market separately to show
the differences and the similarities so as to understand their effects on the community and whether
they allow room for entry and exit of new firms in order to grow our city economically. There are four
market structures that I will provide analysis on. Perfect competition is a market structure in which

The Issues Of Wholeness And The Spectator And Means Versus...
I aim to address the issues of wholeness in opposition to part by part art, time in relation to the
spectator and means versus ends. Firstly I will discuss the issue of wholeness. The notion of unity or
wholeness is something that s championed by Donald Judd in Specific Objects and by Robert Morris
in Notes on Sculpture 1 3 , with both presenting wholeness in opposition to part by part art. In the
latter, the complexity lies in the relations of internal, compositional factors, and therefore the viewer
focuses on these. This in turn isolates the work, and the viewer, from external factors such as time and
space. Judd criticises part by part painting for the way in which the composition is contained by, but
otherwise ignores the shape of the canvas. For him, this meant that the painting did not create an
overall sense of unity because the pictorial parts were stressed rather than the work as a whole. Judd
claims that consistency between the painting and the frame enabled establishment of the frame as an
explicit form, overall making it stronger. For him, Minimalist works developed this idea further. The
notion of unity did not necessarily mean that separate parts couldn t be used but if they were used,
instead of being seen as an internal composition, their purpose had to be to enhance and establish this
overall sense of unity. Additionally, Morris notes that the notion of wholeness does not mean that the
experience of this type of work is less complex.

Who Is Henry James The Turn Of The Screw
Henry James
The Turn of the Screw
For my chosen text I found interest in Henry James s The Turn of the Screw. I discovered the Sherlock
Holmes, investigative and suspense type short story to be, right up my alley. That and the mention of
ghosts made me excited. I grew up in a haunted house and love ghost stories. I have tried to read
romance in the past and I have enjoyed it. Allowing for possibilities such as horror and the fantastic
while excluding psychoanalysis as an approach to the text. (Lee 2007) I soon fell in love, once I
combined romance and horror. That s what I love to read and write. I have not uncovered all the
depths to this piece of fiction, but I am looking forward to it.
The Turn of the of Screw was written in 1898 by Henry James. I found from my summarized readings,
the theories that would deepen my understanding of this short novel. They are the Psychoanalytic and
Feminist criticism theories. The plot centers around a young governess hired to watch over the niece
and nephew of an absent, wealthy businessman at his country estate in Essex. She falls in love with

The Special Problem Of Doing Right
Within the articles The Special Problem of Doing Right in Our Occupations, Suggestions for an
Ethical Career, and Promoting Ethical Behavior numerous concepts are discussed which explore
morality in general for any profession. These concepts range from personal integrity to how we should
treat others and why we should or should not act in certain manners. Since these articles cover such a
broad range of topics, the purpose of this paper shall be to isolate the three main points found in each
paper, then explain and build upon these points. In addition, this will allow for easier and more
concise analysis of the articles core principles. Given these points, the most suitable method for this
paper to accomplish this task is to explore the media pieces individually while making comparisons as
needed. Below this point the critiques and analysis of the three papers start. Article 1: The Special
Problem of Doing Right in Our Occupations When employees become complacent in their
occupations, there is the possibility that their moral values might deteriorate or waver due to
competing internal or external interests. This seemingly casual bending of morals might have no
impacts at first, but it can quickly become a very serious issue. Whether it is watching a coworker take

existence on the Dutton plantation. Soon enough, Vyry comes to learn what it means to be, not only a

and especially looks forward to playing with her sister Lillian. Despite the fun shared between Vyry
and Lillian, the conditions make it so that there is a constant separation between who Vyry is

Salina, but also from her own people on the plantation; who constantly praise her fully Caucasian half
sister and position her in the background as unimportant and less than Lillian (Walker). These

The Importance Of Ability Schooling In Elementary School...
Over the last 20 years, enrollment rates in public schools have increased by at least 7 percent (NCES
2017). That makes the overall total of students enrolled in school reach around 50.3 million students
(NCES 2017). Every student enters schooling with different academic skill levels, and ability
grouping can help teachers raise students academic performances. Ability grouping is where students
are grouped in the classroom based off their ability to learn, their academic skills, and their talents in
the classroom (NEA 2017). Ability grouping improves academic performance in public elementary
school classrooms.
The purpose of ability grouping is to increase students achievement in the classroom. Research has
shown that ability grouping has improved many math and reading grades throughout elementary
schools. Ability grouping with smaller groups is a lot more common for reading groups than they for
math groups. Ability grouping gives teachers the chance to work with students in smaller numbers.
Research has been found that having smaller group sizes, because of ability grouping, also increases
academic performances (Kutnick, Blatchford Baines 2002). Ability grouping gives teachers the
opportunity to teach new information to kids that learn the same way and at the same pace. According
to Kutnick et al. (2002), Children were least likely to work on tasks involving the introduction of new
knowledge (p 195). When students are put into small groups, they are able to learn

Construction Of Construction Technology And Safety Essay
Since ancient times all the way to the present day there have been monumental advances in
construction technology and safety, from the techniques and methods of construction to the equipment
used in construction which wasn t revolutionized during the industrial revolution. The only constant
throughout all the aforementioned advancements is the use of scaffolding, from ancient times where
sockets in the walls around the Paleolithic cave paintings at Lascaux, the Berlin Foundry Cup depicts
scaffolding in ancient Greece (early 5th century BC), the ancient Egyptians, Nubians and Chinese are
also recorded as having used scaffolding like structures to build tall buildings. Early scaffolding was
made of wood and secured with rope knots. All the way to the present day where scaffolding has
enclosed and has been used to repair the dome of the Capital of the United States of America or even
The Statue of Libetry, construction workers around the world are using temporary work platforms
(scaffolds) to reach areas where work must be done which by any other means would be otherwise
unfeasible. Along with the advancements in construction technology and safety so has scaffolding
changed with the times, form the make up of the materials used, to the requirements demanded of the
builders in order for the scaffold to be deemed safe for use. This paper will discuss: Different types of

Reasons to Turn Someone Down
You should write a letter of recommendation only if you can honestly write a supportive letter for
someone for a given position. After all, a letter of recommendation is supposed to be a tool for helping
people obtain what they are after. If you don t know the candidate well enough to write a good letter,
let the person know. He or she will probably ask someone else. If you do know the candidate well but
have some reservations, let the person know about your concerns, and leave it up to him or her to
decide whether you should still write the letter.
PREPARATION
Read Some Sample Letters
If you have never written a letter of recommendation before, read a stack of reference letters to see
what works and what doesn t. Most faculty have access to graduate student applications and the letters
submitted. Junior faculty can also ask their more experienced colleagues to share sample letters they
have written or have received from applicants (blocking out names and other personal information).
The resource section of this chapter provides links to sample letters.
Collect Information
Once you know what a letter of recommendation looks like, make sure you find out as much as
possible about the candidate for whom you are writing. One of the worst things you can do is to write
a letter that is too generic. Ask for the following information:

Imperialism In Qing China
Before Europeans further decided to explore and imperialize Qing China, Chinese government and
society was strictly conservative in the sense that they were rarely exposed to outside influences.
Being considerably isolated from expansion, imperialism, and industrialization in the west, it took the
people of China by surprise when suddenly Chinese power began switching between the Western
nations, all of whom were fighting for dominance. These Western pressures changed how the Chinese
incorporated Europeans into their society, they had to sign unequal treaties and push for reforms while
still trying to maintain Chinese tradition. However, being forced to succumb to European power did

To the people of china, their culture, society, and government was superior to the rest of the world in
preserving tradition and maintaining a stable society. They were not welcoming to the Europeans or
any other foreign groups because anyone who was not Chinese was considered a threat to the Qing
Dynasty rule. China s hesitant nature towards trade with Britain is indicated in Lin Zexu s letter to
Queen Victoria, 1839. When trying to negotiate a plan to take concerning the opium trade issue
between the nations, Lin Zexu mentions that since China doesn t need imported products from foreign
countries, no harm would be brought about if a decision was made to stop all foreign trade. This letter
is a reliable source in that it accurately expresses China s resistance to foreign trade while remaining
respectful to the Queen who could become angered at the implication of cutting off trade agreements.
In the memorandum written by, Zeng Guofan, one gains additional insight on the distrust Chinese
show against outsiders. Spoken by a Chinese government official, we can conclude that his opinion is
biased towards common Chinese logic on isolation. It can be put in perspective that the Europeans are
becoming more numerous and therefore presenting themselves as a larger threat calling for reforms
that would relieve this serious national ill. In response to these foreigners, the Boxer rebellion arose
with a goal to attack foreigners and anyone with ties to them. In an attempt to eliminate outside

This article presents a study performed to demonstrate the feasibility of designing partial agonists of
the human muscarinic M1 receptor that would modulate the receptor in two distinct ways
simultaneously. It also explains the signaling behavior of the receptor.
The muscarinic M1 receptor was described as the one of five subtypes of the muscarinic G protein
coupled receptors (GPCRs) with the highest expression in the central nervous system. Two
downstream effects of activating the M1 receptor were identified, activating of phospholipase C
mainly by Gq/G11 proteins and influencing ion channels like the N methyl D aspartate (NMDA)
receptor and voltage gated Ca2+ channels. These two ion channels were reported to be therapeutic

The hybrids synthesized were classified into four main groups (2, 3, 4, and 5) based on the orthosteric
agonist, the allosteric moiety and the number of carbon atoms in the linker moiety.
Derivatives of benzyl quinolone carboxylic acids (BQCA), that function as positive allosteric
modulators and allosteric agonists of M1 receptors were linked with the M2 selective orthosteric
superagonist, Iperoxo in hybrids 2 and 3. In hybrid 4, another derivative of BQCA was linked with the
compound 1 (AF292), a M1 selective agonist. Hybrid 5 was synthesized with compound 1 linked to
the allosteric binding moiety of an allosteric agonist, 1 (1′ (2 methylbenzyl) 1,4′ bipiperidin 4 yl) 1H
benzo[d]imidazol 2(3H) one (TBPB) using linker moieties of three different lengths.
The response obtained when the receptors were saturated with Acetylcholine, the endogenous
muscarinic ligand, was defined as the system s maximal response. The data obtained from the DMR
measurements were reported to have been analyzed using the operational model of agonism for
dynamic ligands. From the results, iperoxo did not function as a superagonist at the M1 receptor. The

Stress And The Immune System Essay
Stress And The Immune System
The immune system is a very important part of our bodily functions as its main function is to protect
the body against millions of antigens, which attack our cells and try to reproduce viruses and diseases.
The immune system can protect the body in three different ways, in which are:
1. It creates a barrier that prevents the antigens from initially entering the body.
2. If the antigens do manage to enter the body, then your immune system will try to detect the virus
and abolish it before it begins to spread.
3. If the virus does reproduce and begins to cause problems, your immune system is then responsible
for eliminating it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have also found that there are strong links between prolonged stress and disorders, mentally and
physically. Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 also carried out research into the relationship between Stress and
the Immune System.
Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 =========================
Aims
The aim of this experiment was to determine the effects of stress on the immune system. This was
determined by analysing how quickly a person s wound healed. It naturally is clearly difficult to create
stress within a group of participants to examine how stress does affect your immune system. Hence
Kiecolt Glaser required seeking a group of participants in which naturally have high levels of chronic
stress.
Procedures
Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 used a group of women who were caring for relatives suffering from a rare
disease called senile dementia. This responsibility has been known to be associated with chronic
stress.
Kiecolt Glaser et al used a matched participants design, which is where the participants are matched
together based on for example age and height. A volunteer sample was used as the participants were
recruited using advertisements.
There were thirteen women aged between forty seven and eighty one year and who were all carers and
so they were placed in the experimental group. An additional thirteen

The Aging Population Of America
Introduction
The aging population in America is growing quickly and is projected to double by the year 2050. The
current growth in the number and proportion of older adults in the United States is unprecedented in
our nation s history. By 2050, it is anticipated that Americans aged 65 or older will number nearly 89
million people (The State of Aging and Health in America, 2013). Along with this increase in the
aging population, it is estimated that by the year 2020, 157 million Americans will have some form of
chronic illness (Taking Care: Ethical Caregiving in Our Society, 2005). With advances in medicine,
people are able to live longer lives with chronic illnesses that in the past resulted in a decreased life
expectancy.
In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compensate for this, many are looking towards helping older adults stay in their home for as long
as possible, even if they experience functional or cognitive impairments. This idea is known as aging
in place. In the USA, 95% of adults over the age of 75 want to age in place. There are benefits and
challenges to aging in place. The benefits of aging in place are that it improves perceived quality of
life and is cost effective, whereas the challenges include declines in cognitive and functional abilities
of older adults, as well as time pressures on formal and informal caregivers who must visit older
adults in their homes throughout the community (Connelly, Laghari, Mokhtari, Falk, 2014).
Fortunately, there are technologies that can assist with aging in place. These technologies produce
better health outcomes, lower caregiver burden, and save money over the life of the individual. There
are several types of technologies which will be discussed in this paper, which include technologies
that provide education and support social networking, technologies that support monitoring and
management of health and well being, and chronic conditions, and finally technologies that support
interactions with the healthcare system (Marchibroda, 2015). This research paper will show that the
use of technology will greatly benefit the elderly population in helping them to age in place.

without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary
which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by
Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being
serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use
to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will
reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical
realism.
Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular
genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this
genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created,
leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the
story. Normality is disrupted, just as all seems real, with the injection of a fantastical event as seen in
both stories. In The Nose, a Russian Barber, Ivan Jakovlevitch, of St. Petersburg wakes to a morning
of fresh bread made by his wife, only to

Ancient Polytheistic Religion Compared to Judaism Essay
Ancient polytheistic religion compared to Judaism
Ancient polytheistic and Judaism are two of the most opposite beliefs possible. Polytheistic belief is
the belief in more than just one god. Polytheism was brought to this world by the ancient Egyptians
and the ancient Greeks. The Greek gods often took on the form of being humans while the Egyptian
gods were the main cornerstone to their beliefs and religion. Judaism or the belief of Monotheism is
the belief in one main god. Monotheism we brought to the world by the Jewish culture. It was
originated from the Hebrew bible and is one of the oldest religions still living today. Judaism was a
monotheistic religion of the Jews having its spiritual and ethical ideas embodied mainly in ... Show

As the Mesopotamian civilization rose up in the valley of Tigris and Euphrates, the Egyptian
civilization was centered on the Nile River. The Egyptians were also a polytheistic religion, in that
they believed in many gods. Egyptian Gods have human bodies, with human or animal heads, and
wear crowns or thorns. Egyptian Gods were gods of different things such as the sky, sun, earth, and
music. The Egyptians worship took place at small shrines; they left offerings to the chosen gods as
well as simple prayers. The Egyptians believed that there afterlife was full of dangers, but those
dangers could be overcame by magical spells in the Book of the Dead. Also the Egyptians believed in
the preservation of the body and that it was essential for the afterlife.
The Hittites were an Indo European, speaking a language that was related to the Greek and Sanskrit.
The Hittites adopted Mesopotamian writing along with many other aspects of the Mesopotamian
culture, including polytheism. The discovery of iron was found in the Hittites region, somewhat before
the creation of their kingdom. The discovery led to the making of iron weapons and tools rather than
copper ones. The Discovery of the iron led to the beginning of the Iron Age. Other ancient societies
that were polytheistic were the Persians, and the Assyrians.
The Israelites possessed little worldly power or wealth, but they created a powerful religion, known as
Judaism which is a form of

Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow
discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited
by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and
argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the
traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on
its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of
Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives
through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint
towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved
compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism:
Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger
properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives
because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The
European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards
hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing

Food In Korean Food
A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to
cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed
that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify
social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people
s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her
parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as
a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the
meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming
in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the
topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people
to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151).
In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it
also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the
table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As all the
guests were females, it was interesting to see how social media is involved, even in the ordinary

Cosmological Argument From Motion
To begin, we start with an a posteriori argument, or an argument from experience. Arguments from
experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular
argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. Some things are moved. P2. If
something is moved to being F, then it is potentially but not actually F. P3. If something moves a thing
to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself
to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F
and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). P4. But it is not
possible for something to be both potentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one
preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between
Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of
motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to
assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word
motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms
of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity,
substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher
Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even
given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a
body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces
do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the
other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and
which is in that sense responsible for its

Ethnography Research Papers
Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a
standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the appropriate
demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to interview a close
friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he describes himself as a
Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a Democrat. I got to ask him
many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the interview fairly difficult, but I
got to meet an entirely new friend.
The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was
pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to
accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their
child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they
should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more

His parents are against gun control because they believe that guns are good for protection, which he
completely disagrees with. He thinks that guns dangerous and they should be harder to obtain. He
believes that the government should make it harder for people to purchase weapons. He used the
recent shootings as an example of what happens when we do not have strong gun control. With
stronger gun control, we can prevent future shootings. I disagree with Danny and agree with his
parents, the second amendment says that people have the right to keep and bear arms. I know that they
are dangerous, but possessing one does not always that you have a bad intention of using

  • 2. Vietnam Memorial Dbq Vietnam Memorial Rough Draft The Vietnam War was gruesome and it was terrible for the United States. A little after the war ended, there was a contest for the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. Maya Lin was chosen as the designer of the memorial, but John Carhart has some problems with her design. After reading Carhart s article, he does make some good points about the memorial, but others are not quite right. The Vietnam Memorial is a very effective memorial. The main goal of Maya Lin for choosing this design is for everyone that goes there is to resolve and come to terms with their losses. It is a quiet place meant for personal reflection and private reckoning (Source D). This is why she chose the simple, clean design of it being black with white letters. Black can be considered a very depressing color, so it adds to the effect and the feeling that this memorial should give someone. The thing that makes it very special is that it honors the dead instead of the living. This memorial has every single name of a fallen soldier that fought in the Vietnam War. Also, the design is good because it is different from all the other memorials in D.C. Every other memorial recognizes the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Last and certainly not least I respect and abide by the laws of our country. If each municipal local governing agency would pass legislation to ensure the safety of neighborhoods, communities, civilians, law enforcement and government officials under due proper guidelines, all will have knowledge of what can and can not be done as a neighborhood watch person. The National Institute of Justice prepared a report to the United States Congress entitled Preventing Crime: What Works; What Doesn t; What s Promising. The primary conclusion of the report found that in part enacting programs in different local communities sometimes work, sometimes don t work in curving crime and in monitoring the effectiveness of community organizations and neighborhood watch programs. The report dug into the monies spent for federally to be used in local communities. In 1996, $1.4 billion was used in funding of local police by the Office for Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and $1.8 billion in local crime prevention assistance funding of a wide range of institutions by the Office for Justice Programs (OJP). Although funding is still being received and legislation being enacted, it is primarily up to local communities to pass legislation that is in the best interest of all of the citizens in each respective community. Main Characters In The Land Of Stories A Grimm Warning In the book, The Land of Stories A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer, the main character, Rook, changes throughout the book due to the conflicts he faces. To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly Alex; the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her figure out why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I was going to suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto her farmand have a look around. (Colfer 135). In this piece of evidence Rook is helping Alex go see what Little Bo Peep could be upto. He and Alex then go to her farm and look around. He helped her discover something she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his idea. Rook and Alex did have a crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do this as something to impress her, but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex could have never found this out. She pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her arms around his neck. She had held it together very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer 311). • 5. The Revolution And Its Effects On The American Revolution It is generally agreed upon that the Revolution was guaranteed even foretold since the idea of settling on it was even suggested no one can give a large group of people the idea to run themselves and still keep control from thousands of miles away. England had it, but lost that control of their child nation in 1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the notion that they had the power and authority to independently run the budding country. After being allowed this minute freedom, the colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts of an iron fist hold on the Americas and along with their opposing views on nearly everything, decided that they were no longer pleased with being considered British. Salutary neglect also contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride aptly named because at this time England neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too much for them to go back to how things were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At this time, the colonists started a war to free themselves. Parliamentary taxation was the catalyst to the slew of problems the Americans were having with their over seas overlords. The preliminary Parliament imposed tax that threatened the colonies was the Molasses Act, which was caused by profit loss for the British under the Navigation Acts, and their need to recoup ... • 7. Compare And Contrast Gasoline Cars Vs Electric Cars Which do you think is better for the environment: an electric powered car or a gasoline powered car? Many people would automatically assume that the electric car would be much more efficient in keeping our environment clean. The truth is, this assumption is not necessarily correct, as electric cars can be just as bad, if not even worse, than their gasoline counterparts. For example, they burn fossil fuels just like gasoline cars do to produce the electricity to power the car anyways. That power must come from somewhere, and that somewhere is in a power plant that burns fossil fuels just like the gas car engines. Also, having the government subsidize this new market is causing quite a bit of debt. Taxpayers are paying for the production of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The electricity that power these cars comes from power plants that burn fossil fuels to produce the electricity to power the cars. In total, 75% of the energy is lost to form changes, leaving only 25% to run the car. Additionally, taxpayers are paying the government, which is using that money to fund the marketing of electric cars. The federal government is in $15 trillion of debt all for an idea that electric cars are more green , even though most Americans do not even have the money to purchase an electric car. • 8. Oracle Vapors In Ancient Greek Exercise 2.5 In the origins of Greece, ancient Greek mythology and sources have explained incidents of the oracles of Delphi. The Delphic oracles were primarily female prophets who were told to have inhaled certain vapors from a spring in the temple of the Greek god, Apollo, which allowed the prophets to serve as a supernatural connection to the specific God. Despite the historical evidence that supports the idea of the mysterious oracle vapors, modern day archeologists and geologists rejected the idea completely. Many of the rejections are due to the lack of archeological findings of vapors at Delphi. Two men by the name of Jelle Zeilinga De Boer, a chemist, and John Hale, an archeologist, had then stepped up to study both the geological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the Greek government standpoint, if they allow De Boer and Hale to proceed with their research, they would not have to worry about cost because both men are willing to do the research for free. If anything, the Greek governments has nothing to lose, and should not have a problem with allowing the two scientists to carry out their research. By granting Hale and De Boer the freedom to go on with their research, Greece would be able to gain potential benefits. If Hale and De Boer are successful in proving emission of ethylene gas from the oracle at Delphi, it will provide Greece with more historical value and significance of the Apollo temple. Moreover, Greece will even be able to discover whether or not the faults under Delphi contained ethylene and prove the idea that the Oracle of Delphi may have inhaled the fumes in order to make prophecies. Lastly, to find where De Boar and Hale precisely mention the benefits and costs of their research in their proposal, it can easily be pointed out under the Background section. I believe that these go hand in hand and without one the others are irrelevant. Meaning, if we did not have racial discrimination, prejudice and stereotyping would not exist. The definition of race in our class book is as follows Race typically refers to appearances, such as skin color, hair type (straight, curly, kinky), skin hue, eye color, stature, body size, nose, eyes, and head shape (Robinson Wood, 2008). So racial discrimination could be defined as unequal treatment on the premise of their race or ethnicity (Pager and Shepherd, 2008). • 11. A Brief Look At The Historical View Of Conditional Election A brief look at the historical view of conditional election that is briefly stated with Scriptures that is used today. Giving evidence, that conditional is better than unconditional as in the Five Points of Calvinism. Though the Bible obviously demonstrates that God selects individuals to redemption, there are two differences as to the foundation of election. Conditional election is the idea that God choose individuals for redemption centered on His omniscience of who want to place their belief in Jesus. The free will of man plays into the scope of eternity. Historical View Origen was one of the original to believe that predestination and will of man plays an important role in the doctrine of election. The Scripture he uses is 2 Timothy 2:20 21 to where men can be saved. John Chrysostom endorsed the thought on how salvation is performed. Semi Pelagians also opposed unconditional because of human freedom and preaching would be pointless. The Catholics believe the part of free choice and being in the grace of God. James Arminius disagreed with Calvinist on a few issues like atonement and will of man. He formulated major proclamations of the process of salvation. James articles were dismissed at Synod of Dort for being against the Scriptures and where the articles from Calvin were accepted for the churches to teach. It is important to follow direction because if people didn t follow directions, we would have a lot of raucous. The reason why we would have raucous is because kids would have an even more high risk of doing drugs at really young ages and a more higher risk of homeless people, more deaths from walking streets unintended, and more. • 14. Taking a Look at Cervical Spondylodiscitis Conclusion Cervical spondylodiscitis is a rare and serious illness that can arise from various causes, such as pyogenic infections, iatrogenic infections and complications after swallowing foreign bodies. No cases of cervical spondylodiscitis caused by a penetrating neck injury have been published in the literature. It is difficult to treat patients with penetrating neck injuries (induced by stab wound, gunshot wound or by accidents) in the emergency department. Diagnostic and treatment options depend on the cardiopulmonary condition of the patient. In a patient who presents unstable hemodynamic conditions, prompt surgical neck exploration is necessary. The optimal surgical approach depends on the anatomical zone of the injury. Most injuries can be reached through an anterior sternocleidomastoid incision. Sometimes, a median sternotomy, supraclavicular incision, transverse cervical collar incision or manipulations of the mandible are necessary to reach the origin of the vessel injury (11). For patients in stable condition with a suspected vessel injury, computed tomographic angiography (CTA) is recommended to detect the direct and indirect signs of vessel injury. A CT scan could decrease the likelihood of a negative neck exploration (13, 14). Nevertheless, Gonzalez et al showed in a prospective study that not all vessel injuries and esophageal injuries due to penetrating zone II injuries could be detected using a dynamic CT scan or esophagography (15). Analysis Of Hajime Isayama s Novel Attack On Titan Graphic artist Hajime Isayama s best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a walled community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids Titans that consume humans (Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13 year old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist, who pledges his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren s noble dedication is fueled by the multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy. The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr. Grisha Jäger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Without neurons the body wouldn t have the ability to know when there is illumination or warmth in or outside the body, know how to perform functions in the other parts of the body (such as muscles),or have these two things work together to know what the other is doing. • 24. Bells for John Whiteside s Daughter by John Crowe Ransom John Crowe Ransom was one of the most influential writers of his time. As a poet, essayist, and teacher at Vanderbilt University and Kenyon College, Ransom was one of the prominent leaders of the Fugitive Agrarians and the founder of the New Criticism school of literary criticism and the literary journal, Kenyon Review. His works fall into many different literary movements but the majority of his poems fall within the Fugitive Agrarianism, now known as the Southern Renaissance, movement that emphasized classicism and traditionalism. The writers that were part of the Southern Renaissance, including Ransom, gathered to write a collection of essays that promoted and revitalized Southern literature in the United States. They were known for representing the tensions and paradoxes that resulted from the collision of Northern and Southern ideologies (Holmgren para. 3). Comparably, the Fugitive agrarians emphasized traditional poetic forms and techniques, and their poems developed intellectual and moral themes focusing on an individual s relationship to society and to the natural world (Davis para. 1). Both groups were especially focused on the intrusion of Northern industrialism and destruction of Southern agrarian culture. Sometimes, it takes the smallest and the largest of things to really find yourself in this vast society. One of those things is filming, otherwise known as film in general. Throughout the world, there are people who direct films to often give a story that captivates us. In these films, we not only see what the Director sees in his eyes, but we also see life in its finest detail. Capturing the life that moves around us is an art and when we fully take the advantage of remembering our past, not only will we be able to encounter the days of our past, but we will be able to look towards the future as well. Although the story of Scissor Hands was well written and well established, the concept of the character left a horrifying remark. In many cases, the way a character is developed often leads to a specific genre being picked. The way we look into the human behavior of a character can differ from each person. Sometimes you will have one person view the characters development on how they changed, while another will simply look at how the character is portrayed throughout the film. Either way, both methods are correct in looking into the human behavior of one specific character. • 29. The Issues Of Wholeness And The Spectator And Means Versus... I aim to address the issues of wholeness in opposition to part by part art, time in relation to the spectator and means versus ends. Firstly I will discuss the issue of wholeness. The notion of unity or wholeness is something that s championed by Donald Judd in Specific Objects and by Robert Morris in Notes on Sculpture 1 3 , with both presenting wholeness in opposition to part by part art. In the latter, the complexity lies in the relations of internal, compositional factors, and therefore the viewer focuses on these. This in turn isolates the work, and the viewer, from external factors such as time and space. Judd criticises part by part painting for the way in which the composition is contained by, but otherwise ignores the shape of the canvas. For him, this meant that the painting did not create an overall sense of unity because the pictorial parts were stressed rather than the work as a whole. Judd claims that consistency between the painting and the frame enabled establishment of the frame as an explicit form, overall making it stronger. For him, Minimalist works developed this idea further. The notion of unity did not necessarily mean that separate parts couldn t be used but if they were used, instead of being seen as an internal composition, their purpose had to be to enhance and establish this overall sense of unity. Additionally, Morris notes that the notion of wholeness does not mean that the experience of this type of work is less complex. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That makes the overall total of students enrolled in school reach around 50.3 million students (NCES 2017). Every student enters schooling with different academic skill levels, and ability grouping can help teachers raise students academic performances. Ability grouping is where students are grouped in the classroom based off their ability to learn, their academic skills, and their talents in the classroom (NEA 2017). Ability grouping improves academic performance in public elementary school classrooms. The purpose of ability grouping is to increase students achievement in the classroom. Research has shown that ability grouping has improved many math and reading grades throughout elementary schools. Ability grouping with smaller groups is a lot more common for reading groups than they for math groups. Ability grouping gives teachers the chance to work with students in smaller numbers. Research has been found that having smaller group sizes, because of ability grouping, also increases academic performances (Kutnick, Blatchford Baines 2002). Ability grouping gives teachers the opportunity to teach new information to kids that learn the same way and at the same pace. According to Kutnick et al. (2002), Children were least likely to work on tasks involving the introduction of new knowledge (p 195). When students are put into small groups, they are able to learn ... China s hesitant nature towards trade with Britain is indicated in Lin Zexu s letter to Queen Victoria, 1839. When trying to negotiate a plan to take concerning the opium trade issue between the nations, Lin Zexu mentions that since China doesn t need imported products from foreign countries, no harm would be brought about if a decision was made to stop all foreign trade. Magical Realism In The NoseAndDon Ysidro Magical realism, is a form of literary genre that takes the reader on a journey somewhere between the mundane of ordinary everyday life, to the supernatural world of uncertainty where things are accepted without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical realism. Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created, leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the story. Normality is disrupted, just as all seems real, with the injection of a fantastical event as seen in both stories. In The Nose, a Russian Barber, Ivan Jakovlevitch, of St. Petersburg wakes to a morning of fresh bread made by his wife, only to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the Mesopotamian civilization rose up in the valley of Tigris and Euphrates, the Egyptian civilization was centered on the Nile River. The Egyptians were also a polytheistic religion, in that they believed in many gods. Egyptian Gods have human bodies, with human or animal heads, and wear crowns or thorns. Egyptian Gods were gods of different things such as the sky, sun, earth, and music. The Egyptians worship took place at small shrines; they left offerings to the chosen gods as well as simple prayers. The Egyptians believed that there afterlife was full of dangers, but those dangers could be overcame by magical spells in the Book of the Dead. • 47. Conrad s Heart Of Darkness The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story. Marlow discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo, inhabited by African natives. Conrad includes irony, imagery, and symbolism to criticize white imperialism and argue that Europeans cause destruction and native societies. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad reverses the traditional associations with Europeans and natives to argue that the success of a society depends on its level of morality, which is absent in imperialism. In Conrad s novel, the level of morality of Europeans and natives are shown through the reverse relationship between Europeans and natives through their amount of restraint. During the boat ride to Kurtz, Marlow notices the native s restraint towards man s hardest temptation, hunger. Conrad shows that although the natives have starved compared to the well fed Europeans, the native s morality stops them from giving into cannibalism: Restraint... No fear can stand up to hunger... It takes a man all his inborn strength to fight hunger properly (68). On the same boat ride, fat Europeans demonstrate no restraint compared to the natives because the Europeans do not hesitate to kill a native if survival must overrule their morals. The European yells to Marlow, Catch im ... Eat im (66). The Europeans again show no restraint towards hunger when Kurtz s appetite for more ivory (95) grows, even with the consequence of growing ... • 49. Food In Korean Food A few days ago, a friend invited me and a five other people over to her house, as her parents wanted to cook us a home cooked meal. The dining table had a total of six chairs, including the host s. I noticed that the spacing between the chairs were relatively of close distance, showing how Meals identify social boundaries surrounding familiarity with people, and these are articulated around ideas of people s intimacy and distance (Crowther 161). An elaborate plate of food was set out for each guest, as her parents had cooked us steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, corn, a piece of bread, as well as a dish of cream spaghetti. There was also sparkling water and regular water to drink along with the meal. For all of the guests, this meal was especially enjoyable because we were all students dorming in college, so we had not eaten a home cooked meal in a long time. This can be reconnected to the topic of commensality, as The sharing of food reinforces ties, forges new memories, and allows people to reflect on the importance of eating together (Crowther 151). In Korean culture, it is respectable for the guests to help set the table with the necessary utensils, as it also shows the parents that we are appreciative of the meal. Right as the plate of food was set on the table, everyone began to take out their phones, waiting to capture pictures of the food. As all the guests were females, it was interesting to see how social media is involved, even in the ordinary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Cosmological Argument From Motion To begin, we start with an a posteriori argument, or an argument from experience. Arguments from experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. Some things are moved. P2. If something is moved to being F, then it is potentially but not actually F. P3. If something moves a thing to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). P4. But it is not possible for something to be both potentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity, substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and which is in that sense responsible for its ... • 51. Ethnography Research Papers Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the appropriate demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to interview a close friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he describes himself as a Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a Democrat. I got to ask him many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the interview fairly difficult, but I got to meet an entirely new friend. The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
