Transcontinental Telegraph
The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated
in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually
following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured
funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The
success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The
telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and
disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire
and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on

But the indirect impact was huge as it made trade much quicker as detailed information about
shipments could be sent faster than the goods themselves. It allowed for the rise of most multinational
corporations as they could run regional operations from a central head office. It aided the fight against
crime as criminals found using distance increasingly more difficult. Lastly it helped integrate women
into the world of work as operators and supervisors. This shows how the telegraph was a very
important invention for communication worldwide during the Industrial

Ethics Is A Theory Of Proper Moral Conduct
Shaudee Houshmand
Professor Basil
PHIL 1
13 December 2015
Final Paper
Ethics
Ethics derives from the Greek word ethos which means character. Essentially ethics is a theory of
proper moral conduct. Essentially, in ethics one is trying to make a distinction between what is the
case between what ought to be the case. A key player in ethics is the moral agent. A moral agent is a
person that has an ability to reflect on moral issues. Moral actions conform to the law and immoral
actions do not conform to the law.
Relativism
Ethical relativist deny any objective moral values. Cultural relativism explains that in different times
and in different places people act in different ways; they acquire different values and ideas of what is
morally right and wrong. Moral relativism explains that there are no moral absolutes; everyone can do
what they please and how they want whenever they like.
James Rachels believes in cultural relativism. There are many different arguments first, Different
cultures have different moral codes, therefore there is no objective truth in morality, right and wrong
are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachels). This means that right
and wrong are opinions and those opinions vary from cultures. This argument is not valid for cultural
relativism. Just because different cultures have different moral codes, it does not follow that there is
no objective truth for morality. Some of Rachels s arguments for moral relativism are: if

Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from
obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions to and
Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience and moral
surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats, work together to
form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration of morality through
factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example, the color of the cats,
black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of which are embedded within
the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually associated with bad luck and superstition
as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s wife, although the narrator claims his wife was
never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were specific instances that occurred that related primarily
to the narrator and his mental stability, motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his
companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing
irritability as well as his deteriorating stability and mental well being.

Vincent Van Gogh As A Craftsman
Vincent van Gogh, a standout amongst the most understood post impressionist craftsmen, for whom
shading was the central image of articulation, was conceived in Groot Zundert, Holland on March 30,
1853.The child of a minister, raised in a religious and refined climate, Vincent was exceptionally
enthusiastic, needed fearlessness and battled with his character and with course. He trusted that his
actual calling was to lecture the gospel; notwithstanding, it took a long time for him to find his calling
as a craftsman. In the vicinity of 1860 and 1880, when he at last chose to end up plainly a craftsman,
van Gogh had officially experienced two inadmissible and troubled sentiments and had worked
unsuccessfully as an assistant in a book shop, a workmanship sales representative, and an evangelist in
the Borinage where he was rejected for enthusiasm. He stayed in Belgium to think about
workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by his initial Dutch period are
serious conditioned, forcefully lit, sort sketches of which the most well known is The Potato Eaters
(1885). In that year van Gogh went to Antwerp where he found crafted by Rubens and obtained
numerous Japanese prints. In 1886, he went to Paris to join his sibling Théo, the supervisor of Goupil
s exhibition. In Paris, van Gogh considered with Cormon, unavoidably met Pissarro, Monet, and
Gauguin. Having met the new Impressionist painters, he attempted to emulate their methods; he

Examples Of Early Observational Movements In Film
Primary and Chronicle of a Summer are two examples of early observational movements in
documentary films that started in the 1960 s. Cinéma vérité was founded in France, while at the same
time, direct cinema was founded in the United States. Both have the same intention of being there and
placing the viewer in the location among the subjects. They each use at least one of the Griersonian s
themes, such as male narrator voice over, re enactment shots, and scripts. However, there are a few
differences in these movements with their choice and style in their approach. Cinéma vérité is very
self reflexive, and includes a lot of interaction between the filmmaker and the subjects on camera.
Techniques were deliberately done to remind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the movie ends it continues to show a theater where Rouch and the people from the film are
watching it. Rouch asks them what they thought of the final movie and seeing themselves on the
screen. They took turns criticizing the film, allowing this scene to become the second layer of self
reflexivity. Chronicle of a Summer did include a Griersonian theme of the use of constructing and
reenacting shots. One scene, a man has his breakfast brought in by his mother to eat in his bed. Later
in a different scene, he does karate after getting home from work. Both scenes were set up to show
what a person does on a normal day. Both of these scenes seemed awkward but helped made the story

Morphological and thermal properties of mammalian insulation: the evolution of fur for aquatic living

conducted their experiment on species related to the family Carnivora. The three species of marine
environments include; polar bears, pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, and walruses), and sea otters. One
major key that is crucial to surviving and transitioning to a water environment is the type of insulation
each organism possessed. Insulation is needed to retain body heat, as well as to maintain a body
temperature that is stable after longs submergence. Thus indicating that this particular experiment was

Abstract
This research paper focuses on the impact the derivative trading has had on the stock market of India.
The impact is judged by the change in the volatility after the introduction of the derivative trading. In
this paper 5 stocks are taken on which derivative trading was introduced and 4 stocks on which
derivative trading was not introduced. The daily closing price of those stocks was taken for two
periodspre derivative period and the post derivative period. These were analyzed using GARCH
model to find the variance equation and then the GARCH coefficients from this equation were

George Eliot Research Paper
George Eliot, pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, was born on November 22, 1819 in Chilvers Coton,
Warwickshire, England to an estate agent, Robert Evans, and Christina Pearson. Eliot was an English
novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her father believed
that because she did not have physical beauty, she would not get married; therefore, he put more
money into her education. She and her sister attended Mrs. Wallington s School at Nuneaton from
1828 to 1832, where she became influenced by Maria Lewis, the principal governess, who taught her
to accept the idea of God and religion. While she was in school, she learned French and Italian, but
when her mother died, she had to move back in with her father. After her brother got married, he took
over the family house, so Eliot and her father moved to Coventry.
When she read Charles Hennell s book An Inquiry Concerning the Origin of Christianity, she began to
doubt her religion. This novel deconstructs the Bible and demonstrates that all of the miracles could be
explained. Books about the relationship between the Bible and science interested her, which made her

female novelists were only seen as romantic authors, and Eliot wanted her work to be taken seriously.
She also had a desire to shield her private life from public scrutiny, and to prevent scandals attending
her relationship with the married George Henry Lewes. Her first complete novel, Adam Bede, was
published in 1859, and was an instant success. People were eager to find out who this mystery author
was, until she revealed that it was her. The revelations about Eliot s private life surprised and shocked

great amount of strength to make a decision like The Falling Man and many others did. This man,
along with many others, chose to fall instead of being taken down by the flames and smoke. The

which way they died. Can you imagine making that decision?

Florida State Football Team Analysis
A new school year begins the start of a new football team as the Seminoles lost several players earlier
this year from quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Rashad Greene, running back Karlos
Williams, and tight end Nick O Leary to the NFL Draft. Currently, The Florida State football program
upholds the record for most recent draft picks with a record 29 under their belt since 2013 along with
three consecutive times Atlantic Coast Conference Champions and national title. When the season
starts, there will be players to watch such as new quarterback Everett Golson that will replace
Heisman Trophy winner Winston. The senior was one of the top graduate transfers during the

However, with the highs, there are some lows as most people will be concerned with his turnovers
because of his 14 interceptions and losing eight fumbles. In comparison, Winston did the worst during
his last season with the Seminoles as among the 39 FBS quarterbacks that passed over 3,000 yards and
still managed to take the team to the playoffs. As a quarterback, Winston counted on his teammates
like returning running back Dalvin Cook to assist in making great plays and wins for the football team
all the way to the playoffs. The football season begins with the ranked team playing their first game at
home since 2012, and it is against an unranked opponent. As the team has a winning streak of 14
starting home games since 2009, hopefully, this game will add another home game win for the Noles
to make it number 15 for the team. When the game starts tonight, it will be their first meeting between
FSU and Texas State as the Seminoles take on the Bobcats at Doak Stadium. While the Noles have

Explain How Success Consists Of Going Failure To Failures...
Winston Churchill once said that Success consists of going failure to failures without loss of
enthusiasm . Winston s statement can be viewed as controversial because some people believe no
matter how hard ones tries one may fail. This point has merit because no matter how hard one tries to
defy gravity it will constantly be there. Except for these extreme cases success has been seen through
history as defeating what one had failed to do before. Being able to succeed is caused by not losing
enthusiasm between failures because without an enthusiasm to keep trying one will not want to
succeed, failure can create the idea that allows one to succeed, and without failure people would not
have the passion succeed no matter what. Enthusiasm between failures allows people to succeed
because the character they gain by not quitting is what makes one want to succeed after failure. It is
true that failing something that one has worked at for any period of time is hard to go through. The
character a person gain from failing however is that spark of persistence and enthusiasm to continue
trying. Even if one fails again that character will become even stronger and eventually will lead that
person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This point is seen anywhere in the world because of the inventions people have made. No invention
has ever worked perfectly after the first try. It was the enthusiasm in the inventors to see these objects
work perfectly that allowed them to eventually succeed, Some may say that certain inventions are just
modified older inventions, but the need for these new inventions was prompted by someone having
the enthusiasm to fix a failure in a prior invention. These ideas spurred by realizing the source of a
failure may go noticed, but without someone having the enthusiasm to see the idea work there would
never be

Sex Is While Some Take Sex
Many wonder what sex is while some take sex to an extreme. So let s start with defining sex. people
define Sex in different ways. It can include vaginal, oral, and anal sex. (Source 1) There are many
different ideas of about what sex can be such as Vaginal penis in vagina intercourse, Oral sex mouth to
genital contact, Anal Sex penis in anus intercourse, fingering or handjob hand to genital contact, and
masturbation. Most people are more fond of Vaginal intercourse than any of the other types. Now
everyone knows the simple positions for vaginal intercourse, but what about some of the complex
ones. The more complex ones will get you more aroused but the male will go off quicker though.
Some examples are: the waterfall, the hot seat, spin cycle, stairway to heaven, and the pretzel. (Source

Just like you rely on gestures and surprises in romance, you need to help the excitement alive in bed,
too. Just as sex can become predictable so can foreplay. So here are a few ideas to spice things up: try
things outside the bedroom, sext each other, learn to kiss more passionately, slow down explore each
other s body, and dirty talk to each other. (source 3)
Simple vaginal intercourse is sometimes enough for people but for others not so much. Many people
like Rough sex and prefer it over regular sex. Someone may ask well, What is Rough Sex? Rough Sex
is the type of sex where you involve pain in the sexual act, to increase sexual pleasure! (Source 2) It is

Merit-Based Utopia Essay
People are the building blocks of a society. The society is perfect only if each individual achieves
happiness through his/her own satisfaction from achievements. In order for that to happen, the society
should be merit based. A place where people have an incentive to work for themselves without
harming others will ensure a safe, respectful, and successful community. Unlike our society in the
twentieth century, people are actually encouraged to strive for success and get rewarded according to
the level of accomplishment in this utopia.
The main idea of a merit based society is a person receives what he works for. The most hardworking
people are the wealthiest, most respected, and most loved. At the same time, these people are very

Incentive is an invisible but effective force that causes people to act a certain way, according to the ten
principles of economics. (Mankiw, 7) Firstly, the role of government is very different in a merit based
society compared to the American government. In a merit based society, the government is only
responsible for enforcing a law that forbidden a person from doing harm to others, arresting those who
break this law and sending them to jail. This idea is similar to Ayn Rand s objectivism, in which she
says, Punishment is the only proper function is government. ( Ayn Rand First Interview 1959 (Full) )
If punishment exists, people will refrain from causing harm to others because of the idea that people
avoid punishment called secondary negative reinforcement proved by a psychological experiment.
(Logan)
The government also differs from the American government in its treatment of welfare. In the merit
based society, there is no welfare. The government does not tax nor lend help to anyone because
welfare discourages people from fully using their potentials. If welfare is available to the non wealthy,
people tend to become one of them by not working and being fed by the government. Taxes are also
eliminated because some people restrict their income to a certain degree by processes called tax
avoidance and tax evasion because they want to pay less tax to the American government. (Mankiw,
244) A merit based society provides no

Marx s Theory On Class Conflict And Society Essay
Since the french and industrial revolution in 18 century, the world had come to a new era: capitalist
society. Capitalism represents a big step forward in human productive abilities compared with
previous forms of society. Along with the social development, there was a new group of people who
was called the sociologist who analyze and try to understand how this society works. Marx was one of
them and his ideas were influential. His theory mostly emphasis on class conflict and the society from
economic aspects. This essay will first analyze Marx s theory in detail. Then I will explain how
economy and social conflict related to Marx s theory along with the role of these factors in the
capitalist society.
Marx defined social class as the class which sets the scene and moves things forward. He sometimes
talked about there are only two classes: Bourgeoisie and proletariat, the class in itself and the class for
itself, sometimes talked about there are many numbers of classes such as capitalist, working class and
landowner. There is no simple unambiguous, and universally accepted body of Marxist doctrine. As
Bob Jessop said, the thoughts of Marx in his life time were various and far ranging. In general, Marx
refers bourgeoisies as capitalists and they are major class in that period leading into industrialization.
And he thinks the petty bourgeoisie as middle classes who cannot see themselves as part of class, only
as individual. The last one, the proletariat, was described by

methods to produce iPSCs were developed using non integrating approach such as recombinant

Set in an old apartment building that is currently being renovated, Nieves has recently lost her
husband and is being threatened with eviction. With no place to go, she tries to convince her landlord

her the job because he feels it s meant for a man, he finally agrees. This job allows her to keep her
apartment but it also tests her morality and ability to speak up when someone is in trouble.
One day while cleaning a vacant apartment, a tenant comes to her complaining about roaches in her
apartment. The tenant believes they re coming from the apartment above hers. So, Nieves goes to that
apartment to spray chemicals to kill the roaches. But when she enters the apartment, she doesn t find
any bugs. She ends up finding a young girl locked in a room. Mortified by her find, she exits the
apartment and tells her boss about the girl. Angry she entered the apartment without his consent, he
tells her the girl isn t her problem and to focus on doing her job.

Compare And Contrast This Is Water By David Foster Wallace
There were two pieces of text I recently read, one is This is water by David Foster Wallace, and the
other is Letters to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast between these
two texts and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about. For Wallace, his passed
commencement speech to share advice to people who here at a college graduation. In his speech, he
delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement also talked about decision making,
and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by
writing the letter to one military student named Franz Xaver Kappus. In the letter to a young poet, I
mostly focused on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real
artist. It is only through solitude that he will learn personal truths, he told Kappus that he needs to trust
his feelings and to face the difficulty. Rilke talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I
gradually understand that everything will not be smooth, it is hard. There will be many things we
cannot avoid, such as solitude. Nowadays, solitude has already become a regular phenomenon in our
daily life. For example, when I walk on the street, I always see a person walking alone, eating alone,
shopping alone, or even goes to concerts alone. As Rilke said, Solitude it always becomes clearer that
this is at the bottom, not something that one can take or

Beatty insists that books are not needed in their current society where homogeneity and structure is
mandated by the government. During Beatty s visit, Millie tries to organize the bedroom and ends up
finding the book under his pillow, which we later find out is only one of about 20 that he has stolen
over the years. Montag has become disgusted with his wife and her friends because all they do is sit
and watch television, occasionally engaging in gossip that shows just how selfish they are, and how
they lack concern for their husbands, children, or even the impending atomic war. Fed up with this
nonsense Guy Montag takes out a book and reads a poem to the women. Mildred s friends tear up and
begin acting very emotional, not understanding why. Guy quickly hides the books in the backyard and
is called out to another fire alarm. He was not prepared for it to be his own house. Guy s own wife,
Mildred was the one to report him. Montag burns his own house down along with all of his
possessions alone, at the orders of Chief Beatty. Afterwards the two get into an argument, and after
Beatty continues to harass Montag, Guy flips the switch and burns the chief to the ground. Instantly,
an attack hound named The Mechanical Hound is alerted to track down Montag. After the hound stabs
Guy once with a procaine needle, it is incinerated. Montag quickly gathers his books

Saki The Interlopers
The Interlopers by Saki is a story of bitter hatred, grudging reconciliation, and the unmerciful acts of
nature. Ulrich and Georg are two men that continued to supply their everlasting conflict between their
families. Unfortunately, spontaneous events changed their life in the east of the Carpathian Mountains.
The process the author managed to keep the story continuing with so much suspicion is the reason
why this has become a favorite of mine. The way he kept the suspicion thorough, he used literary
terms such as point of view, foreshadowing, and irony. First of all, the point of view the story is
written in is third person omniscient, as in the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of the
characters. The author begins to use signs

Voluntaryly Childless Couples
Be fruitful and multiply, this is the word of the Lord. However, this is now being challenged by some
married couples as there is an increasing rate of married couples choosing to remain childless. The
traditional definition of a family is defined as a man and a woman living together with child /children.
However, a new family type has emerged, such as voluntary childless couples. In this family type the
couple is married and is fully capable of biological reproduction, but have no intention of doing so.
Thus, voluntary childlessness among a married couple exists for a number of reasons: due to
achieving a higher level of educational attainment, so as to pursue a higher standard of living and fear
that children will potentially cause an unhappy marriage. Because of achieving a higher level of
educational attainment, some married couples choose to remain childless. The household childlessness
rate is strongly linked to married couples with high educational level. For example, the Australian
Bureau of Statistics indicated that the proportion of couples aged 45 49 years who were childless
increased with higher level of educational attainment. The statistics highlighted that the highest
proportion of childless married couples were among those with a bachelor degree or higher (20%),
compared with 12% of those with an undergraduate or associate diploma. Couples with no post school
qualifications had the lowest level of childlessness (9%). It is seen that the delaying of child

Hedda Gabler, by Henrik Ibsen and Madame Bovary, by...
Often times many authors depict their characters inner lives as well as their actions within their
literary works. Other instances authors exemplify their probing of social problems, and the limitations
society holds on its residents. In the two literary works, Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and Gustave Flaubert s
Madame Bovary, they share a common portrayal: the main heroine faces the complications of societal
restraints. The novella by Ibsen and Flaubert s novel emphasize upon women that struggle with what
can and cannot be done in their society. The protagonists Hedda Gabler in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler and
Emma Bovary of Flaubert s Madame Bovary are estranged individuals thwarted by society. Many of

During this era, divorce was unheard of; people were expected to love their spouse, in sickness and in
health, no matter what the circumstances. Hedda understands those circumstances which is why she
says, Oh yes, Judge I was going to say, you make your bed and then you lie in it (255). It implies that
she distinguishes her place in society and even though she is unhappy she just has to cope with it.
Society plays a major part in marriages back in the day, by creating barriers and limits that some
woman could not handle, such as Emma Bovary. In Flaubert s Madame Bovary, Emma Bovary is
confined to an unhappy life as a result of the society she dwelled in. Social status was imperative
during the time period; the more money one had, the higher up they in class. Throughout the novel it
mentioned about Bourgeois ways because of Charles and Emma. They are put into that social class
because of how much money they possess as well as expend. The story revolves around Emma buying
and selling luxurious items either to give them to her lovers of her numerous liaisons or to pay for her
debt. Knowing what type of person Emma is, she possibly would never be happy with whoever she
settled with, but she did not chose to marry Charles. Her father had decided her future with Charles

Rudyard Kipling And Ray Bradburys Comparison
The Oxford Dictionary describes Self Fulfillment as: The fulfilment of one s hopes and ambitions .
Kipling and The Traveling Wilburys both share their wisdom on personal fulfillment in the inquiring
If and the approachable End of the Line . While the poems are similar in their purpose and occasion,
they differ in their tone and attitude. The Occasion and purpose of the two works is very similar. In his
poem to his son Kipling talks about what it takes to be a Man, this is years of wisdom and experience
he has gathered and puts together in this poem. The purpose of this poem is to give his son and the
reader moral advice on how to live your life. Even though end of the line is not directly addressed to

The tone of Kipling s if is one of need and inquiry. In his poem he lists all the if s that he thinks are
required to be a man. you ll be a Man, my son! He makes it clear that only if you can check all of this
of your list, you ll be a man, which basically means make him proud. In contrast to the harsh tone of
Kipling s poem the wilburys song End of the Line has a very mellow tone. Well it s all right, they start
of every sentence of every second stanca, making it very clear that while they advise us to do the best
[we] can if we don t it will be all right. The attitude of Kipling has towards live is a harsh one,
something we can see in his poem. He demands enormous tasks of his son/ the reader like: watch the
things you gave your life to, broken ... and build em up with worn out tools , while most humans
would give up after such a misfortune he expects of his son and the readers to move on, which is
great, but hard advice. While the Wilburys almost say the opposite: even when the sun don t shine ...
we re going to the end of the line , which basically means no matter what happens it doesn t really
change anything, at the end we all end up at the same stop,

Keystone Cruiser
In American, summer may be the season for beer, but beer maker Keystone Light has found itself in
hot market competing against some major brands. With many of the premium brands upselling their
light beers, Keystone has been forced into a position where it must be bold if it wishes to survive. By
focusing on who the Cruiser is, and why they would enjoy Canhole, they can make a product that is
far more valuable than the premium beers that they are up against.
The essence of the Cruiser is that they are able to find enjoyment from the small things in life. The
cruiser does not need much and Canhole embodies that. While a premium beer drinker may need more
expensive and more elaborate means of entertainment, the cruiser can find enjoyment by utilizing a
cardboard box and some empty beer cans. The Cruiser is likely to be a person that believes in
simplicity, is friends and family oriented, and can laugh at themselves (Schiffman Wisenblit, 2014).

Glass Menagerie Disadvantages
The Glass Menagerie Essays Prompt One The characters in The Glass Menagerie are theorized to be
based off of people in Tennessee Williams s life. The Wingfield family are supposedly similar to
Tennessee s own kin. With that, all of the characters in the play have their strong points and
weaknesses in their personalities. Tom, the son in the Wingfield family, works in a warehouse. He
dreams of adventure and longs for some sense of purpose beyond the town that he lives in. Although
he takes care of his family s financial stability, he clashes with them constantly. Tom and his mother,
Amanda, argue very often, for example when he gets irritated by her interrupting his writing. Tom
rants, Look, Mother I haven t got a thing, not a single thing left in this house that I can call my own,
(1.3). Tom lets all of his anger out at once, building it up until the moment he snaps. Instead of settling
his problems in his life at home assertively, he claims to go to the movies, only coming back after
hours of being away. However, this is classified as a positive trait. It s better for him to calm down and
settle the issues later on, when he won t risk saying something impulsive or upsetting. When he gets
home after his trips to the movies one night, he speaks to his mother after she claims she will not
speak to him again, I m sorry, Mother. I m sorry for all those things I said. I didn t mean it. I
apologize, (1.5). Another positive trait about Tom is his gentleness towards Laura. When he converses
with her, his guard is let down and speaks to her kindly. Even though he tries to appear bleak on the
outside, once he opens up he shows his softer, more careful side. Amanda, the mother of Laura and
Tom, can be very absent minded and in her own world of expectations. She refers back to her time as
a young woman and focuses on getting a gentleman caller for Laura; she s even more interested in
having the gentleman caller for herself rather than Laura. Amanda struggles with giving her children
what they want, refusing to accept the fact that Tom wants to leave and adventure out into the world.
Because of this, she causes a lot of family conflict, stating later on in the play, My devotion has made
me a witch and so I make

Francis are outstanding and the finest of the reliefs are the four miracles of St. Anthony. Donatello was
great in handling large numbers of figures (one relief has more than one hundred), which predicts the

Donatello was not doing much work the last three years at Padua, the work for the S. Antonio altar
was unpaid for and the Gattamelata monument not placed until 1453. Offers of other places reached
him from Mantua, Modena, Ferrara, and even Naples, but nothing came of them. He was clearly
passing through a crisis that prevented him from working. He was later quoted as saying that he
almost died among those frogs in Padua. quot; In 1456 the Florentine physician Giovanni Chellini
noted he had successfully treated the master for a protracted illness. Donatello only completed two
works between 1450 and 1455, the wooden statue St. John the Baptist and a figure of Mary Magdalen.
Both works show new reality; Donatello s formerly powerful bodies have become withered and
spidery. When the Magdalen was damaged in the 1966 flood at Florence, restoration work revealed
the original painted surface, including realistic flesh tones and golden highlights throughout the saint s

Youth Civic Engagement
Over the course of years, society has reached a point where violence is considered a typical
manifestation. Year after year, we witness many lives end due to useless reasons. Many strategists
have pondered over different strategies of overcoming this battle, but yet, none has come to succeed. It
s time that our future generation of young, bright minds step up to their role in society and become
more engaged in their civic duties to promote the cohesion and tranquility of their environment. As
young people s civic and political participation continues to decline, communities around the globe are
taking many initiatives to reverse this devastating issue by promoting many opportunities to engage
young people through a variety of methods that allow the youth to actually participate in their
community. Such tactics are policy development and taking action on local issues. The effectiveness
of such notions might take many years to show realization.

Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard
For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach
and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I visited McDonald s first
just after what could be considered the dinner rush. When walking into the store the first thing I
noticed was the floor was fairly dirty, especially near the trash receptacles. There were clearly visible
items of food that had fallen off of people s trays as they attempted to clear their trays off. I got into
the line to order and noticed that there were three people ahead of me. There was only one McDonald
s employee working the registers while I saw another standing by on their cell phone. I believe the
second employee not working the registers was a manager. She was unaware of the line that had
grown and when she looked up she signed into a register to help. I had gone into the store with the
intention of only ordering a sweet tea, but if I were to have been offered an item I would buy it. I gave
my order to the manager of only a sweet tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that
the manager did not try to upsell my order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self
service, I went to go get the sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager
and she said they would get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see
how long it would take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told

  • 2. Transcontinental Telegraph The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Ethics Is A Theory Of Proper Moral Conduct Shaudee Houshmand Professor Basil PHIL 1 13 December 2015 Final Paper Ethics Ethics derives from the Greek word ethos which means character. Essentially ethics is a theory of proper moral conduct. Essentially, in ethics one is trying to make a distinction between what is the case between what ought to be the case. A key player in ethics is the moral agent. A moral agent is a person that has an ability to reflect on moral issues. Moral actions conform to the law and immoral actions do not conform to the law. Relativism Ethical relativist deny any objective moral values. Cultural relativism explains that in different times and in different places people act in different ways; they acquire different values and ideas of what is morally right and wrong. Moral relativism explains that there are no moral absolutes; everyone can do what they please and how they want whenever they like. James Rachels believes in cultural relativism. There are many different arguments first, Different cultures have different moral codes, therefore there is no objective truth in morality, right and wrong are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture (Rachels). This means that right and wrong are opinions and those opinions vary from cultures. This argument is not valid for cultural relativism. Just because different cultures have different moral codes, it does not follow that there is no objective truth for morality. Some of Rachels s arguments for moral relativism are: if ... • 4. Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions to and Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience and moral surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats, work together to form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration of morality through factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example, the color of the cats, black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of which are embedded within the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually associated with bad luck and superstition as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s wife, although the narrator claims his wife was never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were specific instances that occurred that related primarily to the narrator and his mental stability, motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing irritability as well as his deteriorating stability and mental well being. ... He stayed in Belgium to think about workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by his initial Dutch period are serious conditioned, forcefully lit, sort sketches of which the most well known is The Potato Eaters (1885). Cinéma vérité was founded in France, while at the same time, direct cinema was founded in the United States. Both have the same intention of being there and placing the viewer in the location among the subjects. They each use at least one of the Griersonian s themes, such as male narrator voice over, re enactment shots, and scripts. However, there are a few differences in these movements with their choice and style in their approach. Cinéma vérité is very self reflexive, and includes a lot of interaction between the filmmaker and the subjects on camera. Techniques were deliberately done to remind the ... Chronicle of a Summer did include a Griersonian theme of the use of constructing and reenacting shots. One scene, a man has his breakfast brought in by his mother to eat in his bed. George Eliot Research Paper George Eliot, pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, was born on November 22, 1819 in Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire, England to an estate agent, Robert Evans, and Christina Pearson. Eliot was an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her father believed that because she did not have physical beauty, she would not get married; therefore, he put more money into her education. She and her sister attended Mrs. Wallington s School at Nuneaton from 1828 to 1832, where she became influenced by Maria Lewis, the principal governess, who taught her to accept the idea of God and religion. While she was in school, she learned French and Italian, but when her mother died, she had to move back in with her father. After her brother got married, he took over the family house, so Eliot and her father moved to Coventry. When she read Charles Hennell s book An Inquiry Concerning the Origin of Christianity, she began to doubt her religion. I believe this is one of the most powerful images of 9/11 because it takes a great amount of strength to make a decision like The Falling Man and many others did. Currently, The Florida State football program upholds the record for most recent draft picks with a record 29 under their belt since 2013 along with three consecutive times Atlantic Coast Conference Champions and national title. In comparison, Winston did the worst during his last season with the Seminoles as among the 39 FBS quarterbacks that passed over 3,000 yards and still managed to take the team to the playoffs. As a quarterback, Winston counted on his teammates like returning running back Dalvin Cook to assist in making great plays and wins for the football team all the way to the playoffs. The football season begins with the ranked team playing their first game at home since 2012, and it is against an unranked opponent. • 12. Explain How Success Consists Of Going Failure To Failures... Winston Churchill once said that Success consists of going failure to failures without loss of enthusiasm . Winston s statement can be viewed as controversial because some people believe no matter how hard ones tries one may fail. This point has merit because no matter how hard one tries to defy gravity it will constantly be there. Except for these extreme cases success has been seen through history as defeating what one had failed to do before. Being able to succeed is caused by not losing enthusiasm between failures because without an enthusiasm to keep trying one will not want to succeed, failure can create the idea that allows one to succeed, and without failure people would not have the passion succeed no matter what. Enthusiasm between failures allows people to succeed because the character they gain by not quitting is what makes one want to succeed after failure. It is true that failing something that one has worked at for any period of time is hard to go through. The character a person gain from failing however is that spark of persistence and enthusiasm to continue trying. Even if one fails again that character will become even stronger and eventually will lead that person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 18. Merit-Based Utopia Essay People are the building blocks of a society. The society is perfect only if each individual achieves happiness through his/her own satisfaction from achievements. In order for that to happen, the society should be merit based. A place where people have an incentive to work for themselves without harming others will ensure a safe, respectful, and successful community. Unlike our society in the twentieth century, people are actually encouraged to strive for success and get rewarded according to the level of accomplishment in this utopia. The main idea of a merit based society is a person receives what he works for. The most hardworking people are the wealthiest, most respected, and most loved. Incentive is an invisible but effective force that causes people to act a certain way, according to the ten principles of economics. (Mankiw, 7) Firstly, the role of government is very different in a merit based society compared to the American government. In a merit based society, the government is only responsible for enforcing a law that forbidden a person from doing harm to others, arresting those who break this law and sending them to jail. This idea is similar to Ayn Rand s objectivism, in which she says, Punishment is the only proper function is government. ( Ayn Rand First Interview 1959 (Full) ) If punishment exists, people will refrain from causing harm to others because of the idea that people avoid punishment called secondary negative reinforcement proved by a psychological experiment. (Logan) The government also differs from the American government in its treatment of welfare. In the merit based society, there is no welfare. The government does not tax nor lend help to anyone because welfare discourages people from fully using their potentials. If welfare is available to the non wealthy, people tend to become one of them by not working and being fed by the government. Taxes are also eliminated because some people restrict their income to a certain degree by processes called tax avoidance and tax evasion because they want to pay less tax to the American government. • 19. Marx s Theory On Class Conflict And Society Essay Since the french and industrial revolution in 18 century, the world had come to a new era: capitalist society. Capitalism represents a big step forward in human productive abilities compared with previous forms of society. Along with the social development, there was a new group of people who was called the sociologist who analyze and try to understand how this society works. Marx was one of them and his ideas were influential. His theory mostly emphasis on class conflict and the society from economic aspects. This essay will first analyze Marx s theory in detail. Then I will explain how economy and social conflict related to Marx s theory along with the role of these factors in the capitalist society. Marx defined social class as the class which sets the scene and moves things forward. He sometimes talked about there are only two classes: Bourgeoisie and proletariat, the class in itself and the class for itself, sometimes talked about there are many numbers of classes such as capitalist, working class and landowner. There is no simple unambiguous, and universally accepted body of Marxist doctrine. As Bob Jessop said, the thoughts of Marx in his life time were various and far ranging. In general, Marx refers bourgeoisies as capitalists and they are major class in that period leading into industrialization. And he thinks the petty bourgeoisie as middle classes who cannot see themselves as part of class, only as individual. The last one, the proletariat, was described by ... In the letter to a young poet, I mostly focused on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real artist. It is only through solitude that he will learn personal truths, he told Kappus that he needs to trust his feelings and to face the difficulty. Rilke talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything will not be smooth, it is hard. There will be many things we cannot avoid, such as solitude. Nowadays, solitude has already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life. However, this is now being challenged by some married couples as there is an increasing rate of married couples choosing to remain childless. The traditional definition of a family is defined as a man and a woman living together with child /children. However, a new family type has emerged, such as voluntary childless couples. In this family type the couple is married and is fully capable of biological reproduction, but have no intention of doing so. Thus, voluntary childlessness among a married couple exists for a number of reasons: due to achieving a higher level of educational attainment, so as to pursue a higher standard of living and fear that children will potentially cause an unhappy marriage. Because of achieving a higher level of educational attainment, some married couples choose to remain childless. The household childlessness rate is strongly linked to married couples with high educational level. For example, the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicated that the proportion of couples aged 45 49 years who were childless increased with higher level of educational attainment. The statistics highlighted that the highest proportion of childless married couples were among those with a bachelor degree or higher (20%), compared with 12% of those with an undergraduate or associate diploma. Tom, the son in the Wingfield family, works in a warehouse. He dreams of adventure and longs for some sense of purpose beyond the town that he lives in. Tom and his mother, Amanda, argue very often, for example when he gets irritated by her interrupting his writing. Tom rants, Look, Mother I haven t got a thing, not a single thing left in this house that I can call my own, (1.3). Tom lets all of his anger out at once, building it up until the moment he snaps. Instead of settling his problems in his life at home assertively, he claims to go to the movies, only coming back after hours of being away. However, this is classified as a positive trait. It s better for him to calm down and settle the issues later on, when he won t risk saying something impulsive or upsetting. When he gets home after his trips to the movies one night, he speaks to his mother after she claims she will not speak to him again, I m sorry, Mother. I m sorry for all those things I said. Amanda, the mother of Laura and Tom, can be very absent minded and in her own world of expectations. • 40. Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I gave my order to the manager of only a sweet tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that the manager did not try to upsell my order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self service, I went to go get the sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager and she said they would get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see how long it would take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
