Comparing Two Movie Genres
How we choose the movie genres that we would like to watch. One could simply choose a genre to
watch just by what they love to watch or by how they are feeling on that particular day. Some people
have a preference towards the actors that may be performing in a particular movie genre. Others prefer
more than one genre, were not subjected to just choose one genre, but some may just stick to one
genre.
We all have preference when it comes to movies. Some may love horror and then some may prefer an
action movie or even a comedy. Some may be prejudiced to a movie just because of the genre the
movie has been placed. Genre is a classification of artistic composition based upon their style, form,
or subject matter. Genre is an important part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the end, they both get their family back and the bad people are defeated. The reason one might choose

Sanger Sequencing Essay
Sanger Sequencing was introduced in 1977 by Frederick Sanger and has been extensively used for at
least 35 years (10,11). Even now, it is still frequently used for small scale sequencing work. No
breakthrough of whole genome sequencing techniques was made until the launches of Roche 454
GS20 (12) and ABI SOLID (13) in the mid 2000. Soon after that, Ion Torrent (14), PacBio (15) and
Illumina (16) platforms have been introduced and quickly occupied the market of genomic
sequencing. Not until recently, the third generation sequencing, such as the nanopore (17), has been
commercialized and initially tested. A timeline of the development of DNA sequencing platforms was
described in Figure 1.
2.1 Illumina
Illumina sequencing platform launches later than the other competitors but quickly dominate the next
generation sequencing market. By using the Sequencing by Synthesis (SBS) technology, millions of
base pairs of the whole genome sequence could be finished in a couple of hours.
The NGS sequencing in Illumina instrument is divided into four major steps: Library preparation; ...

Sprague is expected get on board quickly and to be more responsive to Hanover Bates new plans and
policies. However, without his sales force being on board, this will be difficult. Another issue deals
with the basic fact that he was chosen for the position. He has taken a position in a division that is
somewhat hostile toward him. It was assumed that one of the veteran sales representatives with 34
years of experience (Hank Carver) would get the district manager s position. Since he did not, many of
the sales representatives, along with Carter, are very bitter. They think that Sprague is young and lacks
the experience to be a good manager. He also stepped on toes at a dinner he had with Carver and John
Follet where he tried to explain what he hoped to improve in the district. The two men viewed the
information as criticism and Carver went so far as to threaten to quit the following day.
Possible Solutions James Sprague has many options available to him in dealing with the problems he
has been given with the acceptance of the management position. There are two different areas of need
in the division that Sprague needs to address: Employee relations and division profits. The first area of
need is employee relations. One option would be for James Sprague to call his sales representatives
together, letting them know that he is aware of their bad will towards him and give them an ultimatum

Companies in Crisis What to do when it all goes wrong
Odwalla and the E coli outbreak
What happened?
Odwalla (pronounced odewalla ) is the health conscious juice company which began a couple of
decades ago when Greg Steltenpohl, Gerry Percy and Bonnie Bassett began squeezing fresh oranges
on a $200 hand juicer. The company was growing strongly with annual sales rising 30% per year and
approaching $90m. The company had established a strong brand with enormous customer loyalty.
On October 30, 1996, everything changed. Health officials in Washington state informed the company
that they had discovered a link between several cases of E. coli 0157:H7 and Odwalla fresh apple
juice.
The link ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company s values spoke of nourishing people and when the crisis came it was an adherence to
honest, straight talking and accepting responsibility that helped to get the company through.
There are critics who refuse to credit the company with any integrity whatsoever but even these will
concede that as an exercise in crisis management, Odwalla stands as an example of best practice that
few can match.
The year after the crisis, Odwalla was voted Best Brand Name in the Bay Area by San Francisco
Magazine. This was the first indication amongst many that Odwalla s reputation had survived.
http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/content2/ecoli/odwalla.11.23.html To Odwalla, the recent
incidents of E. coli O157:H7 are a call to action for the entire fresh apple juice industry. Adherence to
industry standards for good manufacturing practices is no longer enough to assure that E. coli
O157:H7 is not present in fresh apple juice. Previously accepted practices for preventing E. coli
O157:H7 contamination, such as thoroughly washing apples, cannot assure safety, said Stephen
Williamson, CEO of Odwalla. Further, according to Dr. Michael Doyle, microbiologist from the
University of Georgia, Testing of finished product does not guarantee the absence of harmful
pathogens such as E. coli O157:H7.
Finally, among other methods, the company is considering some form of heat treatment to kill bacteria
while maintaining integrity and optimal

Differences Of God s Desires In Genesis And The Book Of...
In the Book of Genesis and the Book of Jonah, God reveals His desires for His people and expects
obedience. These desires involve fulfilling His plan which includes, living in community, behaving
peacefully, obeying and respecting Him, and repenting of sins. God makes His desires known, and in
turn, His people obey and disobey these desires. More specifically, examples of this arise in the stories
pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Noah as
well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God s plans and
desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where God s
desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the instances
where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they represent God s
plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis, as God has
completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it and how he
wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our
likeness (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be one with His people
and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to show that while they
are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are not associated with
God. Another

Two U.S. Vacation Hot Spots Essay
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest vacation spot hands down is in
Key West, Florida and the `coolest place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These
vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally
have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of
them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to
spend a week of vacation time, they differ in weather and climate patterns, they each have unique
attractions and activities to do, and both vary in travel costs and various other expenses.
Weather and climate conditions are one major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since both vacation spots have different climates, they both offer a variety of different activities to do
and adventures to have. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous
water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet
skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water
apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking,
climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various
exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing,
hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food.
One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of
the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to
cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round
trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to
Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine
hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay
in. There will also be numerous activity costs like boating, fishing

The Four Functions Of An Economic System
An economic system is the result of individuals (consumers and producers), groups (firms, trade
unions, political parties, families etc) and the government coming together and interacting in a legal
and social society. The function of an economic system is to resolve the basic economic problem
scarcity which means that the resources are limited but wants are infinite. This distribution has three
dimensions:
* What is to be produced
* How is it to be produced
* For whom is it to be produced.
There are 2 economic systems which are commonly used world wide. There are: the free market
system in which the role for the government is limited and the planned system where the government
takes viturally total control. In both of these systmes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The resources are allocated through a planning mechanism. Some goods and services are prvided free
and some rationed or sold
The characteristics of a command economy:
* Factors of prodction are owned publicly by the government
* No one think of himself Everyone is assumed to be working for the common good
* There are no free enterprise
* There is very little competition which gives rise to black markets
* Since there is no competition there is no price mechanism. The authorities set the prices, and they
are forced to set the prices low to make sure that it is affordable to everyone
* The government has the responsability of planning how all the resources should be used. The decide
what should be produced and in what quantities. In other words they set the output and price levels.
What is to be produced?
The consumer does not have any control at all on what will be produced. The planners or the
government decide what will be produced, but the main problem which arouses is that the government
does not know what exactly the consumers need. In other words supply is dictated by a governing
body which tries to predict demand however this process is very difficult and it leads to heavy losses.
How will it be produced?
There is no such thing as firms in a planned economy. The government direct the resources into
producing units They have no autonomy, so basically the government decides the quantities of output
and the methods of production

Entry: Dear journal, Carter here. Yesterday we went to the Fifty first Nome in Texas, to attend the
Dallas Museum of Art s party that was held by J.D. Grissom, the leader of the Fifty first Nome. We
had gone to warn him about the lord of chaos, Apophis, and how he planned to find an artifact, destroy
it and kill everyone in the museum. We had met up with J.D. Grissom in the sculpture garden where
the main party was being held and warned him of the upcoming threat. He didn t seem to believe us at

We did it. Using the spell, and Apophis s shadow that we got before Setne escaped we managed to
perform a shadow execration on Apophis. It took a lot of effort and sacrifice though. Getting to him
was like walking through a funhouse where the mirrors lead to just more mirrors. We had eventually
gotten to his main head, while others were fighting other parts of him deep in the Duat. Along with us,
Zia who was hosting the sun god Ra was shooting fire balls at Apophis. It was a crazy mess
everywhere. Apophis had two heads and three tails, but only one of each was real. I could feel the pure
chaos burrowing into my bones, and killing me from the inside out. For a split second, Zia got
distracted, and just as the ancient Egyptians had prophesied, Apophis swallowed Ra and Zia whole.
Instantly the Sun disappeared and everything got really dark and cold. The only thing illuminating the
area was the red glow of Apophis. Seeing Zia swallowed down by Apophis filled me with so much
anger, I blacked out. Sadie says that I lashed out with the crook and flail, leaving wounds that didn t
heal. I don t remember any of that. All I remember is seeing Apophis with two steaming wounds
across him, oozing the blood of chaos. Then Sadie and I cast the shadow execration and banished him

Common Threads Throughout Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
The monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have over many thousands of years
established many traditions and beliefs. Many of these are from their respective book of scripture such
as the Bible, Torah, or Qu ran. Others are from the interpretation of the religions over the many years
from their leaders and the generational stories that have been passed down. Many of these can be seen
as quite similar between the religions, but others can be considered unique to each one of them. There
are many concepts that can be analyzed across these religions. The goal of this essay will be to focus
and to put an understanding to some of the main concepts that include ultimate reality, human beings,
community/society and nature (science) and how these influence the believers understanding of what
it means to religious. To begin, let s start with the concept of ultimate reality. This term represents the
belief of one creator who, in his love, created all things. In Judaism, there is the presentation of one
true and indivisible God the creator of all things, and that God cannot be any more than one being or
spirit. Teachings and prophecies about God are found in the Torah which is the book of scripture in
Judaism, but are also found in the old testament of the Hebrew bible. The word of God is presented
here and through the Jewish people God has revealed himself in stories that have been translated,
understood, and followed over many generations. The second

Fatalism In Beowulf
Fatalism is the belief that all events are predetermined, therefore they are inevitable. Today, society s
perception of fatalism died with Beowulf. Fatalistic type qualities exist with one s higher power
beliefs, however people still have control of their own endings. Taken, RV, and The Blind Side are
excellent examples of how fate could have taken control of the scenarios in the movies, but did not
because nowadays, everyone makes their own paths. Fate does not exist, the power for us to make our
own decisions does. In the movie Taken, starring Liam Neeson, Liam is faced with an objection that
he must overcome in order to salvage his daughter Kim. This movie is not considered to have a
fatalistic opinion. This is because human traffickers abducted Kim, and she was supposed to end up
being murdered. Due to her dad being a retired CIA agent, he was able to rescue her and defeat the
traffickers in the process. Remarkably it was Kims destiny to die, and Liam proved else wise by

Essay Global Positioning Systems and Air Cargo
This paper describes the concept of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and how they improve the
Air Cargo industry. In this paper we will discuss how GPS came to be and how it is used in every day
air travel. The paper will also explain how the GPS systems improve the Air Cargo industry in
tracking the shipment from one hub to another.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of navigation based on the integration of 24
satellites, 21 working systems and 3 backups, that relay information regarding craft position and
velocity to users (Colborn, 1992). First initiated as a program by the US Department of Defense
through their Navstar system, GPS was deployed and fully operational in 1994 and speculations of the
utility of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time, microwave landing systems, or MLS, were due to replace instrument landing systems,
and theorists recognized the possible benefits that could be attained from implementing controls
through the GPS systems (Moxon, 1992). Because of the relative cost effectiveness of these systems
and the fact that satellite positioning systems allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in navigational
assistance, it was believed that GPS could aid in precision landings (Moxon, 1992).
Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air
traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic
management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This
projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air
service based industries, including the air cargo industry.
In 1994, the Federal Aviation Administration, working in cooperation with NASA, concluded a
process of testing which underscored the belief in the possibility of using GPS satellites to navigate
commercial airliners, especially during the approach and landing segments, in order to improve
efficiency as well as operational safety. GPS satellites assist ground based personnel by providing
them with a more

Extraction of Chlorophyll from Spinach Leaves
2 15 11
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to take spinach leaves and extract the chlorophyll and carotenoid
pigments by using acetone as the solvent. The chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments were extracted by
using column chromography and alumina was used as the solvent. Solvents of different polarities were
used, starting with the least polar, to extract the certain components from the leaves. They were then
analyzed by using thin layer chromatography.
Procedure:
The first part of the experiment dealt with breaking down the spinach leaves in a mortar and pestle.
Acetone was added to this to help with the breakdown of the spinach leaves. Once the spinach leaves

My Reflection On My Parents Instilled
My parents instilled in me the importance of reading since a very early age. We formed a nightly
routine of reading every night before bed as soon as I started learning the basics of reading. I enjoyed
every moment of this; it was my favorite part of the day. The first book I was able to read on my own
was One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The feeling of success I had after this
accomplishment is as clear as day and I can still see myself as a five year old beaming with joy when I
could finally read a book without assistance. In grade school, I was never the one who was passionate
about reading. However, when it came time to write a story, I was excited and even wrote stories on
my own. In third grade, my friends and I would write fictional stories during lunchtime and present
them to our teacher after recess. I can still remember the sense of pride we felt when we saw the
surprised and proud looks on our teacher s face. It made us want to write more and more. But years
went on, and I still never formed a fondness for recreational reading. I ve been assigned more than
five books a year in the past; some would catch my interest, but never enough to pull me in as much as
to read in my spare time. There were rare occasions when I was really pulled into a book that was
assigned to me. To this day I do not know if that was because of the mere thought that I was not
willingly reading the book, or just that I did not have the patience for it. All

Renzo Piano As AApproach To Architecture
Renzo Piano was born September 14, 1937 in Genoa, Italy, To a family of Genoese builders. He
graduated from the school of Architecture, Milan Polytechnic in 1964. He later expressed
dissatisfaction with the academic approach to architecture, describing it as without rebellion . During
his studies he was working under the guidance of Franco Albini, his spare time was spent working
steadily at his fathers construction company. This is where he developed an inspiring love for the
architecture. After graduation, he was initially employed by his father s construction company before
collaborating with Louis Kahn in the United States and Z.S. Makowsky in the United Kingdom.

This building was designed to house some of the worlds most exquisite modern art, so naturally the
design had to be modern. It is constructed mostly of high tech steel and glass, with a beautifully
designed exoskeleton adding to its complexion (Renzo Piano Building Workshop Official Site). Renzo
Piano has designed and brought to life so many structures all over the world. Some of his most famous
include Kansai, the world s largest air terminal in Osaka Bay, Japan, where Piano proved himself a
master of the gigantic project and again with the imposing Bercy Shopping Center in Paris, as well as
a massive and beautiful National Science Museum in Amsterdam. His soccer stadium in Bari, Italy is
like no other in the world, with its great swaths of blue sky interrupting the usual monotony of stadium
seating. His versatility is displayed further in such projects as the beautiful sweep of a nearly one
thousand foot long bridge that curves across Ushibuka Bay in Southern Japan, with the design of a
70,000 ton luxury ocean liner (Great Buildings On line). In 1998 Piano was selected as the Laureate of

Defending Beef By Niman Summary
In Defence of livestock Although many researchers believe that our planet s environment and
ecosystems are facing many challenges due to livestock production, proponents of livestock
production believe that the reason why the our environmental condition has worsened is not that we
eat more meat but because we eat less of it. Niman argues that instead of decreasing production, we
should focus on producing meat that is more environmentally sound. She also argues that Feed
production with all its attendant problems of fossil fuel consumption, soil erosion, greenhouse gases,
and chemical pollution can be avoided altogether (Niman, 79). In Defending Beef , she explicitly
criticises the FAO s Livestock s Long Shadow and questions certain statements ... Show more content

There are many different practises and methods available for livestock production, and ultimately it is
the choices that farmers make that determines the production s level of sustainability. The practices of
industrial large scale operations like CAFOs result in both environmental damage as well as health
concerns for humans and animals. Depletion, pollution and contamination are the biggest obstacles we
face when trying to move toward a more sustainable planet. But when livestock is handled
responsibly, with consideration for the environment and potential consequences, it is indeed possible
to produce livestock that is beneficial for our planet. Organic and grass based farming systems such as
silvopastoral systems have been proven to increase biodiversity, reverse soil erosion and counteract
water depletion. By encouraging farmers to move towards more sustainable methods like these, we
can help curb today s more urgent issues regarding our environment. While there are disagreements
between researchers on how to do this, they all agree that we have to take some kind of action to save
our planet. Possible ways to achieve this include not consuming meat, or buying meat from local,
organic and grass based farmers to ensure the livestock was raised in a responsible way. If more
consumers demanded this type of meat,

Ancient Greek Culture
What is your impression of the ancient Greeks who composed these stories? What generalizations
might you make about their culture? Based on these stories I can assume they highly value the arts,
music, drama, poetry, and more. This is because the Greek people and gods tended to favor those who
show skill and interest in at least one of these fields, Orpheus and Odysseus being an example. The
importance of the arts is also demonstrated by the prominent role the Muses and their children have in
the myths. The Greeks also seem to value humility and respect, since many of their stories feature the
downfall of those who give in to hubris. Those who demonstrate extreme pride are swiftly reminded
of their place, like Niobe and Bellerophon. The Greeks

High Blood Pressure Is The Resistance Of Blood Vessels
Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels, and the magnitude
of this force depends on the cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels. When the systolic
blood pressure (SBP) which is the pressure as the heart pumps blood around the body is 140 mm Hg
or more, or a diastolic blood pressure (DBP) which is the pressure as the heart relaxes and refills with
blood, is 90 mm Hg or more, and the individual is taking antihypertensive medication, it is called
Hypertension (Madhur, 2014). High blood pressure is a major risk factor for various other illnesses
and even death due to several cardiac and vascular diseases. It is assessed that about 54% of strokes,
47% of heart attacks, 75% of hypertensive disease, 25% of other heart disease, 13.5% of all mortality,
and 6% of morbidity are linked to Hypertension (Khraim Pike, 2014). Hypertension affects about 70
million adults in the United States. Only about half (52%) of people with hypertension have their
blood pressure under control. Nearly 1 in 3 American adults have prehypertension which means that
blood pressure numbers are greater than usual, but not in the high blood pressure range. Hypertension
costs the country about $46 billion annually. This comprises the cost of health care services, drugs to
treat hypertension, and days of absence from work (CDC, 2015).

Abraham Lincoln Peoria Speech Summary
Abraham Lincoln was a great president that helped change the course of the united states. Some
people at the time would say for the better other for worse. With that people would call a him a racist,
someone who thinks that their own race is superior to another race. Or people would call him an
emancipator, someone who sets free from legal, political, or social restrictions. Lincoln was not a
racist, he was an emancipator for he freed the slaves. In his Peoria Speech, lincoln express his
disapproval of the Kansas Nebraska Act and how it ignored the issue with slavery. He even says that
his first impulse is to free the slaves, and called slavery an injustice and a betrayal to the republican
example. He then goes on to say that if blacks are people that they deserve equality due to the
Declaration of Independence. Along with that he say that it is not possible to be morally right and
enslave another man. With all this that Lincoln thought better of the slaves not as property but as
people and wanted slavery to stop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His plan was to speak to some of the blacks leaders and went about doing this through their churches.
When the meeting happened, he explained to them that this would be a good idea and would benefit
both races. He told them that there would still be injustices against them and even though they would
be free they would not be equals. Lincoln says they are fortunate to have this opportunity and should
take it. The place he has planned for them is down in Central America by Panama. He says that there
is a lot of rich coal down there for them and is a good place to start a colony. Lincoln was looking out
for the blacks when he did this, he wanted the best for them and did not want them to be oppressed.
He got 13,000 registered to proceed with the plan, but sadly the Central Government denied the

Comparing The Early Human Migration And The Menchaca Story
When I registered for the Chicano Studies 7 class, I wasn t quite sure what I would be learning.
Although the description would have made it clear to me that it would be Mexican American history.
Never did I think there would be so many different topics and events that would shape and reshape the
Mexican heritage. The two subjects that I enjoyed learning about was the Early Human Migration and
the Menchaca story. The subject of the human migration truly fascinated me. I often wondered how
Native Americans were so spread out. Like most people, I thought they only traveled by land. I did
find the Alien theory funny. I enjoy watching the History channel and the Ancient Alien guy Giorgio
Tsoukalos. I found the topic on flints fascinating.

The Student Success Center Is A Student
The Student Success Center is a student employed tutorial service hosted by Arapahoe Community
College. It was founded in an effort to improve student learning in the college. Initially called the
Learning Strategy Center, then dubbed Tutorial Services, and now the Student Success Center, the
goal has always been the same: support student learning.
Debra Goldberg has been the Coordinator of Tutorial Services at ACC since 2000. She holds a Master
s degree in Education and taught English for 25 years. Every semester she employs and supervises
about 25 student tutors. She is responsible for interacting with the majority of departments throughout
the college.

Once the session is concluded however, she will pull the tutor aside and have a discussion about
correcting behaviors.
Soft Skills
First impressions matter to Goldberg. When hiring new student tutors, Goldberg often makes a
decision on how the student presents his or herself. The student will represent the center, and the
students coming in for tutoring will also being making first impression judgements. The center wants
to create an environment where students want to stay through the session and come back for future
tutoring.
Communicating and being able to express ideas is another skill Goldberg looks for in the tutors she
hires. The tutor must be able to explain ideas and concepts clearly to the students who are struggling
with the material to avoid any additional confusion.
Goldberg must be able to communicate and work well with the other departments on campus, and the
tutors she employs must be able to communicate and work well with others to ensure a pleasant
experience for anyone who comes into the center. Soft skills are skills that everyone in the center uses
daily.
Anticipating the Audience
There are only two primary audiences that the Student Success Center interacts with: students and
ACC faculty members. The small audience makes anticipating the audience easier for the center,
because anything it produces is only going to one of two different audiences.
When Goldberg interacts with professors, it is usually to find a student doing well in the

Rembrandt Van Rijn Essay

Mr. Hovater
World History
28 March 2013
Rembrandt van Rijn People consider the Dutch painter and etcher, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn,
an important figure in Dutch history. He achieved success at a very early age but had personal
tragedies and financial hardships in his later years. Many are familiar with Rembrandt s reputation.
Rembrandt s works show his greatest accomplishments. Mainly his childhood and home life
influenced his works. Steadfastly, Rembrandt van Rijn, the greatest Dutch portrait painter of all time,
revealed his brilliance by creating realistic masterpieces of poor, working class subjects, and the ones
he loved and lost.

Unfortunately, Rembrandt faced financial difficulties as well that he never paid attention but would
later affect him. After Saskia gave birth to four children, only the last one, Titus, survived to grow up.
Many believe that the birth of Titus explained Saskia s fatal illness. On June 14, 1642, Saskia van
Ulenborch died when Titus was only a year old. Five days later, she was buried in the Oude Kerk. In
the 1640s, Rembrandt van Rijn hired Hendrickje Stoffels as his servant that later became his mistress
after the death of Saskia. Yet, he could not marry Hendrickje or else he would have lost the income
from Saskia s part of the estate. Hendrickje played Saskia s role in all but name (White 129).
Hendrickje and Titus became models in numerous works of Rembrandt. Rembrandt and his new
partner soon had a girl named Cornelia. In 1653, Rembrandt began to face trouble, the worst year of
the economic depression caused by the First Anglo Dutch War. The war almost led to a financial
collapse in Amsterdam. Rembrandt owed money for his house, paid no interest on the exorbitant
amount for the past five years, and had let the original owner pay the taxes on the house for the past
three years. Rembrandt van Rijn sold many of his possessions to pay off his debt. He finally left his
house and moved into a simpler one on the other side of the city, Jordaan. In July of 1663, Hendrickje
Stoffels died. Many say that the plague could have

Sodomy Case
Throughout history in the United States, we have had a hard time accepting the concept of
homosexuality and skewing from the idea that we are all gender binary. The police began to enforce
what is known as the sodomy law to discriminate against those who do not comply with the norm of
gender binary. The sodomy law can be defined as oral/anal sex between two partners (could be two
women, two men, or a man and a woman). It has been present within our society for two centuries and
has historically been a crime that went unenforced, for the most part, if committed by two consenting
adults in private. Two specific cases became well known for attempting to fight the law to gain rights
for same sex couples who have been discriminated against due to ... Show more content on

Looking closer into what happened within the court room, Bowers vs Hardwick ended with a five to
four ruling against Hardwick, and Lawrence vs Texas ended with a six to three ruling in favor of
Lawrence. For Hardwick and the LGBT community, it was a terrible loss. This was frustrating and
disappointing for supporters. The decision was criticized widely because it was sending the message
to the world that homosexual relations were not accepted or supported in this country. They were not
receiving the same rights heterosexual citizens were. The result lead to the question of why the State
may be permitted to apply a generally applicable law to certain persons that it does not apply to others
(Bowers v. Hardwick, 1986), referencing the state choosing to arrest homosexual partners but never
heterosexual partners for sodomy. It makes it seem as if as a nation, we allow discrimination because
even our cops and government officials participate in it. Alternatively for Lawrence and the ACLU,
their case was a tremendous success. It was successful in completing their goal of diminishing the
unfair and unequal sodomy laws from the

Salton Sea Research Paper
From being a resort area filled with numerous yachts, the Salton Sea has become an abandoned
destination since the late 20th century. The Salton Sea was created by accident; with an exponential
increase in precipitation, water diverted from the Colorado River to Imperial Valley creating the
Salton Sea. Through its early years, the Salton Sea was a tourist attraction. It was an inland sea,
allowing the public to ride boats and fish. Soon after, the Imperial Valley needed a drainage lake, and
the federal government permitted the Salton Sea to be utilized for this specific purpose. Salton Sea
became a lake where residues from fertilizers as well as pesticides such as DDT fertilizers and
hazardous chemicals were dumped into without any regulation.

Analysis Of The Book Great Expectations
Letter Essay, Great Expectations By Leona Markose One of the books I have recently read is Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens. It introduces the reader a rather unique approach into the subject of
social class. Throughout the book, Pip, the main character is faced with many challenges that shape
him into who he is. We first meet Pip on Christmas eve around the 1800s. While out in the church
graveyard to pray across the graves of his late family, Pip meets an escaped convict. His eyes wide in
fear, he listens as the convict demands that he steal food and a file for him. Pip, extremely shaken,

So, Joe starts teaching Pip the ways of his trade. One fateful day while they are away at work, Mrs.
Joe is brutally attacked, leaving her unable to speak and a little out of her mind. Biddy, a bright and
lively girl arrives to help with her care and becomes a blessing to the household . (pg 110) During Pip
s apprenticeship to Joe, Mr. Jaggers, a lawyer, approaches him in the village. He gives surprising news
that Pip has expectations from a benefactor. Apparently this benefactor has arranged money to be left
for Pip to learn the true ways of a gentleman. The benefactor s name is to remain anonymous until that
person is ready to speak up. It has been arranged that Pip must leave for London the following week.
Before leaving, Pip assumes that the only possible person who could be this benefactor is Miss
Havisham. He visits her to say goodbye once and for all. Before leaving he bids Biddy a farewell. In it
he says, `If I could only get myself to fall in love with you, you don t mind my speaking so openly to
such an old acquaintance? `Oh dear, not at all! said Biddy. `Don t mind me. `If I could only get myself

Others prefer more than one genre, were not subjected to just choose one genre, but some may just stick to one genre. We all have preference when it comes to movies. Even now, it is still frequently used for small scale sequencing work. No breakthrough of whole genome sequencing techniques was made until the launches of Roche 454 GS20 (12) and ABI SOLID (13) in the mid 2000. Soon after that, Ion Torrent (14), PacBio (15) and Illumina (16) platforms have been introduced and quickly occupied the market of genomic sequencing. Not until recently, the third generation sequencing, such as the nanopore (17), has been commercialized and initially tested. A timeline of the development of DNA sequencing platforms was described in Figure 1. 2.1 Illumina Illumina sequencing platform launches later than the other competitors but quickly dominate the next generation sequencing market. Another issue deals with the basic fact that he was chosen for the position. He has taken a position in a division that is somewhat hostile toward him. It was assumed that one of the veteran sales representatives with 34 years of experience (Hank Carver) would get the district manager s position. Since he did not, many of the sales representatives, along with Carter, are very bitter. They think that Sprague is young and lacks the experience to be a good manager. He also stepped on toes at a dinner he had with Carver and John Follet where he tried to explain what he hoped to improve in the district. The two men viewed the information as criticism and Carver went so far as to threaten to quit the following day. • 8. Differences Of God s Desires In Genesis And The Book Of... In the Book of Genesis and the Book of Jonah, God reveals His desires for His people and expects obedience. These desires involve fulfilling His plan which includes, living in community, behaving peacefully, obeying and respecting Him, and repenting of sins. God makes His desires known, and in turn, His people obey and disobey these desires. More specifically, examples of this arise in the stories pertaining to Adam and Eve, Noah, Cain and Abel, and Jonah and the people of Nineveh. Noah as well as Jonah and the people of Nineveh show numerous examples of acting on God s plans and desires in a positive way, while the other examples contrast this and provide instances where God s desires are not followed. Although there are those who choose not to follow His desires, the instances where His desires are followed hold the utmost focus and importance because they represent God s plan coming to fruition through His creation. Beginning with the Book of Genesis, as God has completed His creation, He explains what He desires for the people that will reside on it and how he wants them to fulfill His creation. He explains, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness (Gen. 1:26). These words from God present the idea that He wants to be one with His people and that He wants them to be alike to Him. However, His people will go on to show that while they are created in His image and likeness, they exhibit flaws and behaviors that are not associated with God. Another ... Common Threads Throughout Judaism, Christianity, and Islam The monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have over many thousands of years established many traditions and beliefs. Many of these are from their respective book of scripture such as the Bible, Torah, or Qu ran. Many of these can be seen as quite similar between the religions, but others can be considered unique to each one of them. There are many concepts that can be analyzed across these religions. In this paper we will discuss how GPS came to be and how it is used in every day air travel. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of navigation based on the integration of 24 satellites, 21 working systems and 3 backups, that relay information regarding craft position and velocity to users (Colborn, 1992). At the time, microwave landing systems, or MLS, were due to replace instrument landing systems, and theorists recognized the possible benefits that could be attained from implementing controls through the GPS systems (Moxon, 1992). Because of the relative cost effectiveness of these systems and the fact that satellite positioning systems allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in navigational assistance, it was believed that GPS could aid in precision landings (Moxon, 1992). Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air service based industries, including the air cargo industry. In 1994, the Federal Aviation Administration, working in cooperation with NASA, concluded a process of testing which underscored the belief in the possibility of using GPS satellites to navigate commercial airliners, especially during the approach and landing segments, in order to improve efficiency as well as operational safety. We formed a nightly routine of reading every night before bed as soon as I started learning the basics of reading. I enjoyed every moment of this; it was my favorite part of the day. The first book I was able to read on my own was One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The feeling of success I had after this accomplishment is as clear as day and I can still see myself as a five year old beaming with joy when I could finally read a book without assistance. In grade school, I was never the one who was passionate about reading. However, when it came time to write a story, I was excited and even wrote stories on my own. In third grade, my friends and I would write fictional stories during lunchtime and present them to our teacher after recess. I can still remember the sense of pride we felt when we saw the surprised and proud looks on our teacher s face. It made us want to write more and more. But years went on, and I still never formed a fondness for recreational reading. I ve been assigned more than five books a year in the past; some would catch my interest, but never enough to pull me in as much as to read in my spare time. There were rare occasions when I was really pulled into a book that was assigned to me. To this day I do not know if that was because of the mere thought that I was not willingly reading the book, or just that I did not have the patience for it. All ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Defending Beef By Niman Summary In Defence of livestock Although many researchers believe that our planet s environment and ecosystems are facing many challenges due to livestock production, proponents of livestock production believe that the reason why the our environmental condition has worsened is not that we eat more meat but because we eat less of it. Niman argues that instead of decreasing production, we should focus on producing meat that is more environmentally sound. She also argues that Feed production with all its attendant problems of fossil fuel consumption, soil erosion, greenhouse gases, and chemical pollution can be avoided altogether (Niman, 79). The practices of industrial large scale operations like CAFOs result in both environmental damage as well as health concerns for humans and animals. Depletion, pollution and contamination are the biggest obstacles we face when trying to move toward a more sustainable planet. But when livestock is handled responsibly, with consideration for the environment and potential consequences, it is indeed possible to produce livestock that is beneficial for our planet. Organic and grass based farming systems such as silvopastoral systems have been proven to increase biodiversity, reverse soil erosion and counteract water depletion. By encouraging farmers to move towards more sustainable methods like these, we can help curb today s more urgent issues regarding our environment. While there are disagreements between researchers on how to do this, they all agree that we have to take some kind of action to save our planet. Based on these stories I can assume they highly value the arts, music, drama, poetry, and more. This is because the Greek people and gods tended to favor those who show skill and interest in at least one of these fields, Orpheus and Odysseus being an example. The importance of the arts is also demonstrated by the prominent role the Muses and their children have in the myths. The Greeks also seem to value humility and respect, since many of their stories feature the downfall of those who give in to hubris. Those who demonstrate extreme pride are swiftly reminded of their place, like Niobe and Bellerophon. The Greeks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High Blood Pressure Is The Resistance Of Blood Vessels Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels, and the magnitude of this force depends on the cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels. When the systolic blood pressure (SBP) which is the pressure as the heart pumps blood around the body is 140 mm Hg or more, or a diastolic blood pressure (DBP) which is the pressure as the heart relaxes and refills with blood, is 90 mm Hg or more, and the individual is taking antihypertensive medication, it is called Hypertension (Madhur, 2014). Unfortunately, Rembrandt faced financial difficulties as well that he never paid attention but would later affect him. After Saskia gave birth to four children, only the last one, Titus, survived to grow up. Many believe that the birth of Titus explained Saskia s fatal illness. On June 14, 1642, Saskia van Ulenborch died when Titus was only a year old. Five days later, she was buried in the Oude Kerk. In the 1640s, Rembrandt van Rijn hired Hendrickje Stoffels as his servant that later became his mistress after the death of Saskia. Yet, he could not marry Hendrickje or else he would have lost the income from Saskia s part of the estate. Hendrickje played Saskia s role in all but name (White 129). Hendrickje and Titus became models in numerous works of Rembrandt. Rembrandt and his new partner soon had a girl named Cornelia. In 1653, Rembrandt began to face trouble, the worst year of the economic depression caused by the First Anglo Dutch War. The war almost led to a financial collapse in Amsterdam. Rembrandt owed money for his house, paid no interest on the exorbitant amount for the past five years, and had let the original owner pay the taxes on the house for the past three years. The police began to enforce what is known as the sodomy law to discriminate against those who do not comply with the norm of gender binary. The sodomy law can be defined as oral/anal sex between two partners (could be two women, two men, or a man and a woman). It has been present within our society for two centuries and has historically been a crime that went unenforced, for the most part, if committed by two consenting adults in private. For Hardwick and the LGBT community, it was a terrible loss. This was frustrating and disappointing for supporters. The decision was criticized widely because it was sending the message to the world that homosexual relations were not accepted or supported in this country. They were not receiving the same rights heterosexual citizens were. The result lead to the question of why the State may be permitted to apply a generally applicable law to certain persons that it does not apply to others (Bowers v. Hardwick, 1986), referencing the state choosing to arrest homosexual partners but never heterosexual partners for sodomy. It makes it seem as if as a nation, we allow discrimination because even our cops and government officials participate in it.
