Swedish Vampire Films and Their Effect On Youth Essay
Vampire films are gaining popularity in many countries. The majority of these vampire films
portray one dimensional love or horror stories. Unlike other vampire films, Let the Right One In
is a complex film and novel that can be interpreted to reflect social problems in Sweden. The film
and novel illustrates a divide between young people and adults in Swedish society. These
different age groups are represented by different characters. The Swedish vampire, Eli, is not
simply a monster, but she is a complex character with which the audience can sympathize as she
appears to be a twelve year old girl. Although Eli is not a human child, Eli represents youth fighting
against the dangers of Swedish society. Eli must murder to stay alive,... Show more content on

If there are no benefits left for other generations of Swedes, then the youth may face higher levels
of poverty. Eli s victims contrast the people Hakan murders because his victims are all young
people. Hakan exemplifies one of the dangers youth face. Although not fully portrayed in the film,
Hakan is a pedophile. In the novel, Hakan does take advantage of a young boy s desperate
situation. The boy has no money and must prostitute himself. The author may be directing attention
to the problem of poor youth that do not have the means to survive. This could be another example
of the social welfare system of Sweden benefitting the adults, while the children suffer. In
addition to Hakan victimizing a young boy, Hakan rapes Eli. While in Tommy s basement, Eli
was being handled, like an object (Lindquivst 392). However, Eli fights back and escapes from
Hakan. Eli s escape represents that Swedish youth face these sexual dangers and must fight off
these dangerous adults. In addition to Hakan sexually victimizing young kids, the people Hakan
harvests blood from for Eli are young people. First, Hakan kills a teenage boy in the woods.
Then, he attempts to murder a boy at the pool, but Hakan fails as the boy wakes up and screams
for help. Perhaps the failed murder shows the progression of youth in Sweden standing up to the
oppression of dangerous adults. When young people ban together they are able to save each other.
The theme of young people saving each

A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For...
First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words,
but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or
development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the
inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the
other hand, Microevolutionalludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of
a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor.
According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level.
So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require
that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its
position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in
development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of
blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a
gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro
evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. Rather, we reproduce the
historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation: geography, fossils, and living beings.
Once we ve made sense of what transformative occasions have occurred, we

Understand The Importance Of Nutrition In Schools
This report has been created to inform educators and families of the importance nutrition plays in
young students lives, in particular how nutrition can affect school outcomes. The report draws on
statistics, provides a brief overview of resources available to educators and recommendations in
relation to improving students nutritional intake and understanding of the importance nutrition.
Research and statistics discussed in this report are retrieved from Government bodies and peer
reviewed journals published within 10 years, due to limited information in research of Australian
students aged between five and eight the age range may show wider gaps. The recommendations
made in the report in relation to improving nutritional outcomes for students... Show more content

The Australian Government developed a national nutrition policy in 2012 2013 to encourage
citizens to lead healthy lives and reduce nutrition related diseases (National Health and Medical
Research Council [NHMRC], 2013) such as obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Good
nutrition equates to a healthy life, a study into the global burden of disease reported that 15% of
global disease was caused by lack of nutrition, in Australia in 2003, 2.1% of the burden of disease
was attributed to lack of consumption of fruit and vegetable (NHMRC, 2013). The Australian
dietary guidelines states, evidence shows that a diet high in nutritional quality consistent with
national dietary guidelines reduces the risk of death and disease (NHMRC, 2013). Nutrition is such
an important aspect of our lives that it is now taught in our schools and forms part of most
educational policies such as the Melbourne Declaration, National Quality Standards and also in the
Australian Curriculum. The Melbourne Declaration states that it is important all students develop a
sense of self awareness and self worth that allows them to make decisions in relation to their
physical well being and are provided with knowledge and understanding that allows them to
establish and maintain healthy lives (MEECYA, 2009), providing students with information in
relation to the importance of nutrition will ensure these goals are met. Vince Whitman (2001, cited
in Sorhaindo Feinstein 2006 ) stated at the 1990 World Conference on Education for All: Meeting
Basic Learning Needs, that in order to learn effectively children need good health . Nutrition is an
important factor in the development both physically mentally and behaviourally for school aged
children, figure 1 below outlines the relationship between nutrition and

Lottery Essay Symbolism
Symbolism Essay Symbolism is a sign that has been used by literary authors to represent a
larger idea into another more specific concept or belief. Symbolism can be used to represent an
action, an idea or a person s archetype as well. The term symbolism is the practice of
representing things by symbols, or of investing in things with a symbolic meaning or character (
Symbolism ). Examples of symbolism are: an eagle representing freedom, a dove representing
peace, and the color green can symbolize the feeling of envy. The following pieces of literature,
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence, Richard Cory by Edwin
Arlington Robinson, and Mirror by Sylvia Plath are all poems that use symbolism. The story...

The stones symbolize unity of the town but also symbolizes a murder weapon. At the end of the
story, it is surprising to see that someone is truly chosen to die through this lottery. A critic
states, The story shocks us because we do not like to admit a demonic side to our natures. The
story suggests that basically we are beasts, ... that we can slip back to barbarism hardly batting
an eye (Evans). Concerning this quote, all of the people of the town are so fixated on this
tradition that they cannot even see the madness in what they are doing. Every year each family
is eager to participate. The society represents an example of naturalism. Furthermore, in We Wear
the Mask , Paul Laurence talks about the different ways all types of feelings and emotions can be
hidden. Every person in the world has some sort of hidden struggle or triumph. A mask is used to
hide what everyone wants kept in the dark. A mask symbolizes protection and disguise. In fact,
Laurence states, We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes
(Line 1). Through the quote, the author explains that no matter what people portray to the world, a
mask covers what truly lies within. Sometimes others have an understandable explanation for the
front they put up. A critic suggests, This debt we pay to human guile; / With torn and bleeding
hearts we smile, / And mouth with myriad subtleties ( Explanation of: We Wear the Mask by Paul

Rock N Roll Analysis
I imagine this song to be an upbeat vibe type of rock n roll song. I want to it have an upbeat type
of song because I feel like rock n roll is that type of genre where people back in the 1950s would
dance to and have fun listening to it at concerts. In this song, it would go along with instruments
like the electric guitar, a couple of backup singers, a drummer, an electronic keyboard, a bass
guitar, and possibly a saxophone. For the type of band who would sing this song, it would
probably be a band like Bill Haley and the Comets. I can picture this song sounding something
like Bill Haley and the Comets song Rock Around the Clock with that kind of upbeat fast tempo.

Tamerlan Dzhokhar (Julia Malakie/Lowell Sun)
Both friends and authorities believe the darkest influence of all was his 26 year old brother,
Tamerlan, who is said to have been both a father figure for him and the driving force behind the
attack.
Unlike his quiet younger sibling, who became a US citizen on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11
attack on the World Trade Center, Tamerlan was fiery and theatrical.
He was a flashy, eccentric fellow, said Eddie Bishop, a boxing trainer who moved in the same
amateur fighting circles as Tamerlan. Mr Bishop recalled an occasion in 2009 when he came into
the ring in cowboy hat, boots and leather trousers. I saw him as someone who had a lot of ability
but lacked the stillness and confidence of a fighter s heart, he said.
Over time, Tamerlan swapped his gaudy outfits for a growing religious fervor and once casual
references to his Muslim faith evolved into prayer mats in the gym and constant talk of Islam.

William Shakespeare s Vampire Bat
Final Assignment Part 2 by Brandy Mearnic
Vampire Bat
The vampire bat also comes from a Subfamily called desmodontinae. There are three different
types of bat species: The common vampire bat, hairy legged vampire bat and white winged
vampire bat. These three different species are mostly native to the New World, but can be found in
parts of Mexico and Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
Their main source of food is blood. Instead of sucking the blood to feed on they make a small cut
with their teeth and then lick up the blood from the fresh wound. While feeding, they can feed for
up to 30 minutes without waking the animal they are feeding on up.
They have a short muzzle and instead of a nose leaf, they have exposed (or naked) pads with u
shaped grooves at the tip of the nose. The common vampire bat has thermoreceptors that help the
bat to locate areas where the blood flows close in it s prey. Vampire bats have small ears and very
short tail. The front teeth of a vampire bat are designed for cutting and the back teeth are smaller
than other bats. A bat s brain processes sound and can detect breathing sounds of other animals
sleeping. This part of the brain is called the inferior colliculus. Mostly all bats have lost the ability
to walk on the ground, but there are some that still run while on the ground. Their wings are much
more powerful than their legs, though.
Bats live in colonies is complete, dark places such as caves, wells, trees and some buildings. The

The Pan Africanism For Beginners
The Pan African movement as described in Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners is a set of
ideas and ideologies containing social and cultural, political and economic, material and spiritual
aspects. Each aspect is accompanied by a plethora of historical figures and terms unique to the
movement, well described throughout the text and in the presented glossary. This book makes it
easy to understand all the information accompanying each topic. While it does have its strengths
and weaknesses, this book as a whole creates and explains a diverse scope of information. It
describes the beginnings of Pan Africanismand shows how the beliefs of many influential people
have stemmed from notions and dreams of years passed.
As a learning experience, Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners provides a strong broad base
of knowledge. Instead of concentrating on the specifics of Pan Africanism, this book covers a
broad range of aspects, from the Diaspora to Garveyism to the Harlem Renaissance. Because
there are so many people and movements associated with Pan Africanism, it is nearly impossible
to go into detail about every important event in one book. Even so, Lemelle does a good job at
providing enough detail on each topic, while still conveying how complex Pan Africanism is. By
including many facets of Pan Africanism, Lemelle is able to spark an interest in the reader so that
they can continue onto more specific research. For instance, when Lemelle explained the

me because they show it on their face. I give them treats when they listen to what I say to them
when I am teaching them new tricks. For example when Tasha and River get the trick right I give
them each a treat to eat. But only teach them one to two tricks a day because I don t want to push
them to the max, and fill them up on treats. If you would like to teach dogs tricks like me then that

I think it s a great idea for kids to do it because it gives them something to do than watching tv or
playing video games all day. And it gives them more experience to do that as a kid so they can

Requirement 3: According to FASB Codification 605 50 25 4, if the amount of future rebates or
refunds can be reasonably and reliably estimated, the expected redemption rate should be taken into
account when calculating the cost of sales incentives. Otherwise, a liability (or deferred revenue)
should be recognized for the maximum potential amount of the refund or rebate. In this case, CCPC
estimates that customers will redeem approximately 2 percent of the detergent coupons. We analyze
the dollar amount of the effect of the coupons in the following two scenarios:
| If there is sufficient evidence to support the 2% expected redemption rate| If there is NOT
sufficient evidence to support the 2% expected redemption rate| Accrual of the coupons| Coupons to

Afghanistan Post Imperialism
Borders have always lead to separation, but in the era of New Imperialism European governments
began to reconsider division as not merely an effect of borders but a powerful aspect of them.
Many imperialist powers used a divide and conquer strategy while creating borders, and GB was
certainly no exception. Whether it was intentional or not in the case of Afghanistan, GB divided the
Pashtuns, the negative effects of which are still being felt today. In present day Afghanistan,
Pashtuns make up 42% of the population, they are the largest ethnic group. In present day Pakistan,
Pashtuns make up 15% of the population, making them the the second largest ethnic group. After

Just as civil conflict led to international conflict, international conflict lead to additional threats
from other countries. Although GB only became involved with Afghanistan to prevent Russia
from invading, within two centuries their involvement became futile. In 1979, Soviets invaded
Afghanistan. Even after a long period of independence in Afghanistan, Afghan troops were unable
to defeat the Soviets. The war was brutal, and lasted for an entire decade. Afghanistan remained a
weak state from the Soviet Afghan war, which made them susceptible to intervention from the
U.S in 2001. Both events, the Soviet invasion and the arrival of American troops, can be traced
back to the border. The border led to complex issues which occurred in quick succession, therefore
Afghanistan and Pakistan had to pay attention to the issues that were right in front of them,
because they were so apparent and pressing. However, as Af and Pak were distracted, more
powerful countries like America and Russia were able to invade. It was an awareness of
surrounding political climates that kept Russia and GB out of Afghanistan during the first Anglo
Afghan war, but with their own borders and issues to worry about Af and Pak paid no attention to

Tattoos have been dated back to 5000 BCE. Tattoos have played the role of being badges of
honor, ceremonial markings, signs off social rank, forms of punishment, and of course ways for
people to beautify themselves (The Cultural History of Tattoos). Over the past years, tattoos has
increased and continues to increase significantly in popularity. According to statistics, 36% of
American adults in the U.S. between the ages of 18 25 and 40% of American adults in the U.S.
between the ages of 26 40 have at least one tattoo(Seth). While the trend of getting tattoos are

Although Elzweig s research may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today s concerns
about the discrimination of tattoos in the workplace. While it is true that there are laws that protect
others from discrimination against gender, race, sexuality, etc., it does not necessarily follow that
one has protection from the discrimination against tattoos. Society has come to a realization that a
difference in someone s skin should not change how others view or treat them, so why do people
treat those who have tattoos differently than those who do not? Although it is granted that if one is
being treated differently at his or her job it is considered employment litigation, one can take action
and bring the situation to court. Nevertheless, when it comes down to dress code, the employer has
every right to release those who don t respect the rules. As stated in Elzweig s quote, if a person
who has a religion that requires them to have body modifications, they are protected by the law and
they have the right to take the employer to court for employment discrimination if employee states
otherwise. In addition, Elzweig suggests that the employment practice violated a constitutional
right. Title VU made it unlawful employment practice for an employer... to discriminate against any

African Minkisi and American Culture Essay
African Minkisi and American Culture
I. Introduction
African Minkisi have been used for hundreds of years in West Central Africa, This area where they
are traditionally from was once known as the kingdom of Kongo, when Europeans started settling
and trading with the BaKongo people. Kongo was a well known state throughout much of the world
by the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The BaKongo, however, had probably long used
minkisi before ethnographers and anthropologists ever recorded them. Minkisi are complex items
that are used to heal and to harm people, and there is no equivalent term for nkisi in any European

To understand the people, you also must first understand their worldviews, their history, religion,
economic conditions, how advanced their scientific knowledge was, etc. By learning about this one
item used in Kongo culture, I have learned an enormous amount about the Kongo culture and the
BaKongo, and have come to a new level of awareness about material culture.
The goals of this paper have changed throughout the course of my research. At first, I didn t even
know what an nkisi was, let alone did I know where I wanted to go with this paper. After doing
my research though, I have decided against a paper completely focused on original ideas.
Instead, my goal of this paper is to use the things that I learned in our anthropology class, and
apply them to minkisi. By applying the things I have learned in the readings from our class, I
have learned a lot more about minkisi than I could ever gain by just reading a few books. I will
especially focus on the works of Deetz, Vlach, and the authors about folk objects. I will also focus
on what we talked about in class about usable truth when referring to objects associated with slave
resistance.
The first conclusion I have come to during the course of my research, is that I don t know how
anybody could reduce African religion to being anything less than complicated. At first the minkisi
seem savage . Until quite recently, our (the Western world) response to

5. HealthSouth has sued E Y, and E Y is the target of a federal securities class action suit. What are
E Y s likely defenses against HealthSouth? Against the class action suit?
One of the main defenses E Y took during the early stages of the HealthSouth suit was the fact that
the SEC had no well defined rules with regards to audit related practices. Another defense was the
mere fact that E Y never faced a criminal indictment for the HealthSouth fraud. This was mainly
due to the statute of limitations placed on securities fraud. It sets it at the earlier of (a) 2 years
after the discovery of the facts constituting the violation or (2) 5 years after such violation. Thus,
the DOJ was unable to file criminal charges against the firm because the partner on the audit (G.
Marcus Neas) was unaware of the fraud in 1993.

The Need for International Labor Standards Essay
The Need for International Labor Standards
The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ
their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an
authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or
senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had
folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it (Smith, 1776: 456)
Introduction
There is no question that the combination of the free market and rapidly advancing technologies
has integrated the world economy to a level unsurpassed in history. In the quote that begins this
chapter, Adam Smith ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Brief History of Labor Standards
In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade
regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made
between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation
designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws
were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods
made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was
merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing
into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or
indentured labor.
The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most
notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948.
Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT
made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were
established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members

The Impact Of NCSA And The Native Corporation System On...
In considering how Natives have been treated in American history, it can be surmised that
NCSA and the Native corporation system have been good for Alaska Natives. For the most part,
ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a positive impact on Alaska Natives. For
example, in that era of American history, ANCSA was the largest land claim settlement. And for
another example, the Native corporation system was set up in a way, that it safeguarded the land
and cash settlement, so it would profit future generations of Alaska Natives and nonnatives as
well. Nevertheless, ANCSA and the Native corporation system have had a negative impact as
well. Such as, ANCSA was not seen as a good deal for all the Alaskan Natives. Because ANCSA
caused confusion over governing structures of the tribes, many Natives believed that ANCSA made
their tribes weak. Furthermore, during their first twenty years, the Alaska Native regional
corporations endured huge profits losses in their effort to parlay control of their land, their natural
resources, and their capital. They lost $250 million between 1974 and 1991 by not including their

addition, during the 1990s, additional new statistics demonstrates that the corporations radically

Therefore, it can be concluded that for the most part, the positive impact of ANCSA and the Native

Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling
The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and I. They lived in
Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young age. Their mother,
Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working, residents of the US.
Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for short, had suspicions
that the young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was arrested and stayed at
Yuba county jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad,
missed school every Wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they
were in the fight against being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all
because of assumptions to terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was
striped from them. Racial profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the
Amin brothers. What does the INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into
the country and if their transmission is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law
enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin
if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has been around since the 1800 s but a

Persuasive Essay On Owning A House
In this day and age, we are advancing and changing the traditional routines past generation set for
us. Today millennials are trying different turns in the workforce, not starting at the bottom to the
top. Because of this empowerment, some get the dream job they work so hard for all the while
being in school. With this some say they feel entitled; some say they know their worth. Also, the
internet has created a new way for a side hustle, selling things on the internet, making money off
YouTube videos, providing driving services, and even creating apps. So why wouldn t
millennials want to own a house, knowing they have income coming in? Could it be they saw
their parents face the recession? Could it be they haven t found their purpose in life? Or could the
burden of college debt stop them from purchasing? Maybe they re waiting until they meet that

I feel that this is just a little insignificant man in the eyes of the townspeople. The woman is not too
much in their eyes either. However, they have found each other and in finding each other, they have
found true love. They do not feel the need to go through the ceremony of marriage to show their
love for one another. You can see that they were in each other s lives for a long time because in
line 10 we see that the children who noticed their love are now adults. These children, as adults,
marry but not for love and we also see some of the die in line 20, they slept their dream . I see in
lines 25 30 that their love was so deep that when Anyone died it was not shortly after that Noone
also passed away.
It is a very sad life that I see for the other members in this community. Some of the children have
that innocence to see things very clearly. However, when they grow up, they lose it. Cummings

take this line to mean that children are so innocent and fun loving when there is snow falling.
Children do not really have too many inhibitions as of yet, but when there is snow on the ground,
they lose the inhibitions that they had. Yet, as we age, we lose that innocence and fun, care free

Essay Grief and Bereavement in The Catcher in the Rye
The Catcher in the Rye has been described, analyzed, rebuffed, and critiqued over the years. Each
writer expresses a different point of view: It is a story reflecting teen ager s talk thoughts emotions
actions; or angst. I believe it is an adult s reflection of his own unresolved grief and bereavements.
That adult is the author, J.D. Salinger. He uses his main character, Holden, as the voice to vent the
psychological misery he will not expose or admit to.
If there are 785 instances of profanity in the book, I contend there are well over a hundred scenes
where Holden used the word depressed. D Ambrosio presents this same thought saying, It should

He believes that there is something in Salinger s own life that is being portrayed through the
character Holden. Ambrosio does not believe that this is a coming of age, or the anxious life of
a teen ager story. Instead, he believes the story is a search for a disturbing and extreme loss of
identity. The book is, he claims, All about suicide and silence (31). I found Ambrosio s correlations
to be very telling and supportive of my thesis.
Early in Salinger s life, he faced one the cultural illnesses widespread in the North Eastern states
of America. It was the virulent disease of anti Semitism. Salinger lived in New York City, where
he was raised as the son of Jewish parents. The 1920 s and 1930 s were a time in America when
Anti Semitism was written into the policies of many institutions. His heritage automatically
deprived him from attending the best colleges: Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth. He was prevented
from belonging to certain social clubs, from certain professions, and from the rank of officer in the
U. S. Military.
Reporters and editors, trying to interview Salinger about his early life, ran into a prickly silent
wall. Margaret, his daughter reveals why. During the Depression and World War 11, from 1939 to
1945, anti Semitism was at its peak. Jews met a wall of discrimination at colleges, clubs, and career
opportunities. Prior to 1948, it was not uncommon

Narrative elements are more effective at portraying gothic conventions in films. Narrative elements

concluded that the context of the film is what has the most impact. What we watch has a much
stronger emotional effect than say the music. A study conducted by UCLA evolutionary biologist
Daniel Blumstein found that music alone was enough to elicit an emotional response from an
audience however when paired with a film whose storyline did not match the theme of the music it
was the context of the film that dominated. Daniel Blumstein said I think in this case there is a
visual dominance, here we find that when you put the two [video and audio] together, you lose the
acoustic affect you had before. What this means is that scary music paired with a normal film
produced normal emotions and normal music paired with a scary film produced fear. This means
that the narrative elements like the plot, the characters and the actions of the characters are more
impactful than the production elements and therefore better at portraying gothic

Causality And Casuality
This study does not conclusively establish a positive correlation between high testosterone and anti
social behavior. The researchers concluded from a correlational study that a causal relationship
exists, yet that assumption is faulty. Causality cannot be implicated due to reverse causation or a
third confounding variable. Regardless, there is still merit to this data if high testosteroneis said to
not play a predisposing role to aggressiveness. For example, a third variable, physical activity,
tends to increase testosterone. Therefore, actors and NFL players who are more physically active
than ministers, should have higher levels of testosterone; which does not imply high testosterone
leads individuals to choose more anti social and aggressive

Technology on the Rise
Technology has been growing throughout the years; ever changing and evolving in all new
ways. It has come natural to us by now, to use technology on anything and everything. We use
technology for even the littlest things, such as looking up a recipe for a meal, or the name of an
actor. It seems to be that the more technology develops, the more addicted and the more
dependent we become. If we really think about how many times we use technology a day, we
will start to realize how much it has consumed us. Think about how many times a day you see
someone on their phone, or on a computer. Now you start to realize how addicted we are. It s so
common for us to use and see people use technology, that we take it for granted and never think

People who use their cell phones while driving are not only a danger to themselves but to
everyone else on the road. It s estimated that at least 23% of all car accidents each year involve
cell phone use that s 1.3 million crashes. (Statistics, lines 38 39) The increased use in cellular
devices seems to be very distracting to drivers and therefore becoming a hazard. Sometimes, you
might catch someone walking into a wall or bumping into others, as if they were a zombie,
because they are too distracted by their technology. As technology can help save our lives in
many different ways, it can also be what causes our lives to be at risk; we should be cautious and
careful how we use it and never become zombified by it. Technology has not only made things
easier for us but has made things in life a lot faster. Cars, trains, planes, and boats have made
traveling around the world so much faster. Places that would take us days to get by car, we can
simply take a plane and get there in a few hours. Phone calls, texting, E mail, and social media
have made it so much faster to talk to friends who live hours always or even across the world.
You can now Facetime or Skype with family and friends to keep in touch, face to face. Computers
now make sending files to jobs, schools, and friends very fast and efficient. Technology allows us
to do many things much faster, but does that make us more dependent on it. Most people have had
that moment when they can t feel their cell

Semantic And Semantics
1.1. Statement of the problem.
English is the language commonly used in the world. In the trend of globalization today, the
importance of English can t be denied and ignored because it is widely used everywhere in the
world. If learners want to learn better English, they not only develop skills: listening, speaking,
reading, writing, but also should have knowledge of grammar and semantics.
One of the factors to learn good English that is semantics. Semantics helps the students to
understand the basic concepts of meaning of the words, sentences and utterance. Understanding the
meaning of the language is important in learning a language. Semantic roles decide the meaning of
the words and sentences.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The NHS
The NHS was first launched in 1948. It was created to provide good healthcare services and it was
available to everyone. It didn t matter if you were rich or poor, that was the principle (NHS choices,
2015). With the NHS confronting its greatest difficulties throughout the following decade, there are
numerous reasons that the NHS is coming to emergency point. Each test should be tended to and a
successful method for adapting and giving better treatment to patients should be involved.
The organisation was established to provide treatment to individuals with illnesses. Many illnesses
that would have killed individuals 65 years prior, have been cured, which is a huge improvement.

s way of life (Black P, 2015).
The department of health responded by suggesting that it s an ongoing battle for the NHS to
provide an ever efficient service. A big claim to help fight these financial issues, was to restrict the
amount of agency staff and management consultants, who earn a considerably larger wage
compared to that of your regular NHS staff member (Meikle J, 2015).

Comparison Of The Characters In Henriquez s Novel The...
In life people are often compare each other for relative success, and so often and conveniently
siblings are compared to each other. We see this comparison in Christiana s Henriquez s novel,
The Book of Unknown Americans with the characters of Enrique and Mayor. Between the two
brothers, one has clearly accomplished more great feats in his parents eyes, him being Enrique.
Throughout the book the accomplishment of Enrique is felt acts as a burden towards his younger
brother, Mayor. Mayor, try as he might, is not his brother and this is seen through Mayor failures to
meet the standards of Enrique presented in the book. There is a siblingrival between the brothers
created by their father Rafael Toro. An advancement of knowledge on the subject of sibling
rivals can help us to further understand the situation of the brothers, by examining the studies of
some scholars on the effects older siblings have on the younger siblings. Rebecca Webber s Two
Sibling, One Spotlight focus on how the older sibling set the goals for the younger siblings.
Zeng yin Chen and Ruth X. Liu work Comparing Adolescent Only Children with Those Who

an insight of real life academics of only and children with siblings generalized results in an

generate higher expectation of parents to push the younger sibling to achieve similar academics
goals. Though most of the data indicate that the older sibling usually outperforms the younger
siblings academically I will argue, this sibling rivalry is not a negative but rather if anything is
positive for the younger sibling. A quick aside with my own personally experiences as the

Persuasive Essay On Pros And Cons
There has always been an unofficial borderline between what is right and what is wrong in our
society, especially when concerning the rights of the average American citizen, are there things that
conflict with the amendments or not? What do we truly have a right to in our country as of today?
There is known to be mass surveillancehappening today and we don t have a say in rather it s
right or wrong or rather if we want it to continue, there are, of course, downsides and positives to
such a thing like mass surveillance, for example, it s easy to track down stolen vehicles if the
situation ever arises. This mass surveillance occurs within big private corporations who don t
exactly have any set parameters for where they exactly tread too close to the privacyof other people,
which is where the problem lies. Individuals sometimes don t wish to be under surveillance due to
past issues that have occurred, such as someone in the Witness Protection Program, it is obvious
that some people have to be exempt from this mass surveillance. The two arguments presented are
the collection of license plate numbers and mass surveillance harbored by private corporations
who operate on a daily basis. One argues that collecting license plate numbers is simply a
collection of public information, while the other states that these private corporations have no right
to track the average citizen. So, where s the line drawn, do they or do they not have a right to
collecting this data about license

Objective
This paper investigates the travel motivations of Chinese outbound tourists and how these are
expressed in the activities preferred by Chinese outbound tourists. The answers sought are therefore:
What characterizes the travel motivations of Chinese outbound tourists? How are the motivations
expressed in activities and actions? What are the implications for the future marketing of Odense
City?
To be able to attract Chinese tourists it is also necessary to look at what motivates Chinese tourists
to travel so that these motivations and through them the activities can be marketed by Odense City. 2
The research undertaken
The paper was supposed to be supported by an online survey among young Chinese on their
willingness to use the internet as a travel information source and vacation booking tool as well as a
short section on their knowledge of Denmark and their previous travel experience and their hope for
their future travels. However, the online survey was distributed via Facebook and Twitter, but the
Chinese government blocked the access to the internet at the time of data collection and only 9
respondents answered before access was cut off. This means that the survey results are not reliable
and cannot be used to illustrate and enlighten us on Chinese tourists internet usage and preferences.
Therefore the focus of the paper was changed to emphasize past studies of Chinese outbound
tourists and their travel motivations. Through this analysis

The Bell Jar Analysis
Esther Greenwood, the protagonist of The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath, is cast under the spell of her
own depression and the story of being released from the spell follows the structure of one of the 7
plot types Christopher Booker created. These 7 plot archetypes include the Quest, Voyage and
Return, Comedy, Tragedy, Overcoming the Monster, Rags to Riches, and lastly the archetype of
Rebirth. The novel The Bell Jaris classified as the Rebirth plot, in accordance with the 5 stages that
make up said archetype: The Falling Stage, Recession Stage, Imprisonment Stage, Nightmare Stage,
and The Rebirth Stage. Readers follow Esther as she pulls herself through the stages, through the

She stops writing, bathing, changing her clothes, and sleeping. This worries her mother, who
sends Esther to a psychiatrist who prescribes her to shock therapy. But instead of having the shock
treatment healing Esther, the doctors do the procedure improperly and terrify her, which leads her
into a living hell. Now is the Nightmare Stage, the part of the story where the spell is in complete
control of the protagonist and any chance of a happy ending is about as shrunken as the protagonist
s free will. Esther, through suicide, tries multiple times to rid the burden of her depression, which
has controlled her after the shock treatment. She first tries to cut herself, but fails after viewing
her wrist as white and defenseless. Esther continues by saying, It was as if what (Esther) wanted
to kill wasn t in that skin or in the thin, blue pulse that jump under (Esther s) thumb, but
somewhere else, deeper, more secret, and a whole lot harder to get at, (Plath 147). After her
failed self harm attempt, Esther tries harder to kill whatever was deeper inside of her. She tries
hanging herself, but doesn t bother after seeing there is no place to hang in the low ceilinged
house. Later on, Esther s friend takes her on a double date with a boy named Cal. She asks Cal
how he would kill himself and his answer disappoints her, saying that he would shoot himself.
Then she challenges Cal to a swimming race in the ocean so she can drown herself. Instead of

Throughout his professional career, Jackie Robinson, received criticism for being the first black
player to play the game. Not only did Jackie Robinson manage to live up to the criticism, he also
changed the face of America s greatest past time forever. With his entrance into the MLB he
opened the path for great black players like Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and
Ozzie Smith just to name a few. In crossing the color barrier in baseballRobinson not only strived
as a great player on the field, but also a inspiration to the black community of the field with his

In the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, Mack won the silver metal in the 200m hurdle (13).
Learning to deal with criticism early was a major contribution to his success in life. He and his
friends would be called racial names while just trying to play baseball at the local park (Kahn 10).
Not long after the family moved to Pasadena, California Robinson s mother enrolled him into
Pasadena Junior College. At Pasadena Junior College Robinson set a National Junior College
record in the long jump of 25 6 ВЅ (Ringer 22). After only one year at Pasadena Junior College
Robinson received an athletic scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (23).
There, Robinson became the first Bruin athlete to earn varsity letters in four sports (25). Robinson
was a standout in football, baseball, basketball and track (26). After three years of college
Robinson left college to work to support his mother (29). He was one of four African American
players on the 1939 UCLA Bruins football team. This was not normal to have so many African
Americans when only a few dozen at all played on college football teams. Later, Robinson went
on to play semi pro football in Honolulu. Several months later, Pearl Harbor was bombed, and he
enlisted in the U.S. Army (31). In the Army Robinson completed Officer Candidate School and
became a Second Lieutenant (34). In 1944 Robinson faced a court martial for refusing to move to

Analyzing The Song What It s Like
Most of us at some point in time, or even multiple times, have asked ourselves if we are using our
time wisely. This can have various meanings. Relating to the collage we completed before hand, my
main focal point was to use lyrics that had the most meaning to me; After picking the quotes I
wanted, I realized that my focus showed how important timeis to me. The quotes placed in my
college all seemed to relate to time in my mind. So, in the following lyrics, I found a way to relate
them to time in our life, and tie these songs together in a way they may not have been connected
before.
In Everlast s song What It s Like the lyric God forbid you ever have to walk a mile in her shoes;
cause then you might know what it s like can mean a variety of different things. Based on the
tone of the singer s voice and the sound of the song, What It s Like can be considered a depressing
song about the real situations in life. We choose not to think about the brutality that certain
individuals have to go through cause then you might know what it s like according to Everlast.
The band chooses to include these lyrics in the song to show people that we can not understand
what a person is going through or why they choose to pursue a certain action until we know what
the individual has gone through. Because the individuals in What It s Like did not put themselves
in Mary s shoes they judged her immediately on her decision to get an abortion without questioning
the reason why she is

Technological Advances And Its Impact On The United States
From the time when the first English colonies were established in North America until now, there
has been some form of armed fighting force in place to protect the interests of the United States and
its colonial progenitors. During the roughly four centuries in which this fighting force has existed,
it has undergone numerous changes of varying degrees of significance. Technological advances
have changed the nature of both defensive and offensive warfare, political advances have changed
the nature of the relationship between the civilian population and its protectors, and geostrategic
shifts have changed the role of the United Statesmilitarywith respect to the rest of the world. The
most lasting and meaningful changes have occurred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conflict that eventually grew into King William s War would provide one of the first
opportunities for fighters from different colonies to cooperate in a larger military conflict on
behalf of the English Empire, and also to develop a sense of resentment toward the Crown for its
perceived failure to defend the colonies adequately (Williams, pp. 23 24). The colonists had
inherited their ancestors distrust of a standing army, primarily since they saw such an army as a
tool for the repression of liberty (Flashnick, Week 1). After the failure of the English army to assist
the colonial fighters to any meaningful degree during King William s War, this distrust was
confirmed and amplified. Two long term effects of the conflict were that it reinforced the American
preference for the citizen soldier and, by virtue of forcing cooperation between the colonies, it
paved the way for what would eventually become a united continental army. Queen Anne s War
was the second successive conflict during this period of transition for the colonial armed forces.
The colonies once again were forced to cooperate militarily, this time to an even greater extent than
had been the case during King William s War. This second war involved more of the colonies than
had previously fought together at any time, albeit with a substantial degree of reluctance on the part
of many, and

  • 2. Swedish Vampire Films and Their Effect On Youth Essay Vampire films are gaining popularity in many countries. The majority of these vampire films portray one dimensional love or horror stories. Unlike other vampire films, Let the Right One In is a complex film and novel that can be interpreted to reflect social problems in Sweden. The film and novel illustrates a divide between young people and adults in Swedish society. These different age groups are represented by different characters. The Swedish vampire, Eli, is not simply a monster, but she is a complex character with which the audience can sympathize as she appears to be a twelve year old girl. Although Eli is not a human child, Eli represents youth fighting against the dangers of Swedish society. Eli must murder to stay alive,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If there are no benefits left for other generations of Swedes, then the youth may face higher levels of poverty. Eli s victims contrast the people Hakan murders because his victims are all young people. Hakan exemplifies one of the dangers youth face. Although not fully portrayed in the film, Hakan is a pedophile. In the novel, Hakan does take advantage of a young boy s desperate situation. The boy has no money and must prostitute himself. The author may be directing attention to the problem of poor youth that do not have the means to survive. This could be another example of the social welfare system of Sweden benefitting the adults, while the children suffer. In addition to Hakan victimizing a young boy, Hakan rapes Eli. While in Tommy s basement, Eli was being handled, like an object (Lindquivst 392). However, Eli fights back and escapes from Hakan. Eli s escape represents that Swedish youth face these sexual dangers and must fight off these dangerous adults. In addition to Hakan sexually victimizing young kids, the people Hakan harvests blood from for Eli are young people. First, Hakan kills a teenage boy in the woods. Then, he attempts to murder a boy at the pool, but Hakan fails as the boy wakes up and screams for help. Perhaps the failed murder shows the progression of youth in Sweden standing up to the oppression of dangerous adults. When young people ban together they are able to save each other. The theme of young people saving each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For... First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolutionalludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor. According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. Rather, we reproduce the historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation: geography, fossils, and living beings. At the end of the story, it is surprising to see that someone is truly chosen to die through this lottery. A critic states, The story shocks us because we do not like to admit a demonic side to our natures. The story suggests that basically we are beasts, ... that we can slip back to barbarism hardly batting an eye (Evans). Concerning this quote, all of the people of the town are so fixated on this tradition that they cannot even see the madness in what they are doing. Every year each family is eager to participate. The society represents an example of naturalism. Furthermore, in We Wear the Mask , Paul Laurence talks about the different ways all types of feelings and emotions can be hidden. Every person in the world has some sort of hidden struggle or triumph. A mask is used to hide what everyone wants kept in the dark. A mask symbolizes protection and disguise. • 6. Rock N Roll Analysis I imagine this song to be an upbeat vibe type of rock n roll song. I want to it have an upbeat type of song because I feel like rock n roll is that type of genre where people back in the 1950s would dance to and have fun listening to it at concerts. In this song, it would go along with instruments like the electric guitar, a couple of backup singers, a drummer, an electronic keyboard, a bass guitar, and possibly a saxophone. For the type of band who would sing this song, it would probably be a band like Bill Haley and the Comets. I can picture this song sounding something like Bill Haley and the Comets song Rock Around the Clock with that kind of upbeat fast tempo. Tamerlan Dzhokhar (Julia Malakie/Lowell Sun) Both friends and authorities believe the darkest influence of all was his 26 year old brother, Tamerlan, who is said to have been both a father figure for him and the driving force behind the attack. Unlike his quiet younger sibling, who became a US citizen on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, Tamerlan was fiery and theatrical. He was a flashy, eccentric fellow, said Eddie Bishop, a boxing trainer who moved in the same amateur fighting circles as Tamerlan. Mr Bishop recalled an occasion in 2009 when he came into the ring in cowboy hat, boots and leather trousers. I saw him as someone who had a lot of ability but lacked the stillness and confidence of a fighter s heart, he said. Over time, Tamerlan swapped his gaudy outfits for a growing religious fervor and once casual references to his Muslim faith evolved into prayer mats in the gym and constant talk of Islam. Katherine Russell (AP) He married Katherine Russell, a 24 year old American convert to Islam, in June 2010 in a hastily arranged ceremony at a Dorchester mosque, where a red and green Islamic flag hangs next to the US Stars and Stripes. • 8. William Shakespeare s Vampire Bat Final Assignment Part 2 by Brandy Mearnic Vampire Bat The vampire bat also comes from a Subfamily called desmodontinae. There are three different types of bat species: The common vampire bat, hairy legged vampire bat and white winged vampire bat. These three different species are mostly native to the New World, but can be found in parts of Mexico and Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Their main source of food is blood. Instead of sucking the blood to feed on they make a small cut with their teeth and then lick up the blood from the fresh wound. While feeding, they can feed for up to 30 minutes without waking the animal they are feeding on up. They have a short muzzle and instead of a nose leaf, they have exposed (or naked) pads with u shaped grooves at the tip of the nose. The common vampire bat has thermoreceptors that help the bat to locate areas where the blood flows close in it s prey. Vampire bats have small ears and very short tail. The front teeth of a vampire bat are designed for cutting and the back teeth are smaller than other bats. A bat s brain processes sound and can detect breathing sounds of other animals sleeping. This part of the brain is called the inferior colliculus. Mostly all bats have lost the ability to walk on the ground, but there are some that still run while on the ground. I teach dogs cool tricks because it s fun and it reliefs me. The dogs I teach tricks to is Tasha and River. They are really good listeners and they learn quickly. Also, they keep me company when I m home alone and when I teach them tricks. They enjoy doing tricks with me because they show it on their face. I give them treats when they listen to what I say to them when I am teaching them new tricks. For example when Tasha and River get the trick right I give them each a treat to eat. But only teach them one to two tricks a day because I don t want to push them to the max, and fill them up on treats. If you would like to teach dogs tricks like me then that s great. I think it s a great idea for kids to do it because it gives them something to do than watching tv or playing video games all day. And it gives them more experience to do that as a kid so they can teach their kid when they are a dad or mom. I set up posters of me teaching dogs so I can teach them so their dog is a good listener. I put my mom s number 732 *** *** so they can call me. Also, it s really cheap for the parents because it s stupid to pay a lot of money at Petsmart or Petco. Although Elzweig s research may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today s concerns about the discrimination of tattoos in the workplace. While it is true that there are laws that protect others from discrimination against gender, race, sexuality, etc., it does not necessarily follow that one has protection from the discrimination against tattoos. Society has come to a realization that a difference in someone s skin should not change how others view or treat them, so why do people treat those who have tattoos differently than those who do not? Although it is granted that if one is being treated differently at his or her job it is considered employment litigation, one can take action and bring the situation to court. This should have raised awareness because revenues only increased by 5% during that same period. Second, the internal auditors were denied access to some of the corporate ledgers. This holds true unless the employee was disgruntled before the fraud occurred. The information will probably be false and misleading because the employee has held animosity for a while. Regardless, you should take the information seriously when it is first presented to you. 5. HealthSouth has sued E Y, and E Y is the target of a federal securities class action suit. What are E Y s likely defenses against HealthSouth? Against the class action suit? One of the main defenses E Y took during the early stages of the HealthSouth suit was the fact that the SEC had no well defined rules with regards to audit related practices. Another defense was the mere fact that E Y never faced a criminal indictment for the HealthSouth fraud. This was mainly due to the statute of limitations placed on securities fraud. It sets it at the earlier of (a) 2 years after the discovery of the facts constituting the violation or (2) 5 years after such violation. A Brief History of Labor Standards In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or indentured labor. The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948. Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were established. Hassan was arrested and stayed at Yuba county jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad, missed school every Wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they were in the fight against being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all because of assumptions to terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was striped from them. Racial profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has been around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result of WWII. • 35. Persuasive Essay On Owning A House In this day and age, we are advancing and changing the traditional routines past generation set for us. Today millennials are trying different turns in the workforce, not starting at the bottom to the top. Because of this empowerment, some get the dream job they work so hard for all the while being in school. With this some say they feel entitled; some say they know their worth. Also, the internet has created a new way for a side hustle, selling things on the internet, making money off YouTube videos, providing driving services, and even creating apps. So why wouldn t millennials want to own a house, knowing they have income coming in? Could it be they saw their parents face the recession? Could it be they haven t found their purpose in life? Or could the burden of college debt stop them from purchasing? Maybe they re waiting until they meet that special someone or possibly owning a home is overrated? All these factors may be the reasons there is a decline in real estateownership. Therefore, if millennials want to invest in a home, they need to look into the reason why they re buying the house. See the pros and cons of being a first time buyer and be a pessimist, not an optimist. Each writer expresses a different point of view: It is a story reflecting teen ager s talk thoughts emotions actions; or angst. The book is, he claims, All about suicide and silence (31). I found Ambrosio s correlations to be very telling and supportive of my thesis. Early in Salinger s life, he faced one the cultural illnesses widespread in the North Eastern states of America. It was the virulent disease of anti Semitism. Salinger lived in New York City, where he was raised as the son of Jewish parents. The 1920 s and 1930 s were a time in America when Anti Semitism was written into the policies of many institutions. A study conducted by UCLA evolutionary biologist Daniel Blumstein found that music alone was enough to elicit an emotional response from an audience however when paired with a film whose storyline did not match the theme of the music it was the context of the film that dominated. Daniel Blumstein said I think in this case there is a visual dominance, here we find that when you put the two [video and audio] together, you lose the acoustic affect you had before.
