Large Bathers
Art is always evolving with the people causing the styles and technique. In the 1900s style of
paintings started to change dramatically. The colors got brighter and the lines became more curved,
images started to become more abstract. This changed the meaning of the paintings to be a more
imaginative and creative. Cezanne and matisse were to artists that painted in the 1900s and they
changed with the times. The two paintings The Large Bathers and The Joy of Life are different but
also have some similarities.
In The Large Bathers the colors are dark, they are sitting around a pond, and it is a large group. Since
the colors are very dark and cold it makes the people seem distant. This makes the people go away
from us and the blues to stand out. All of the people are sitting around a pond washing cloths. This
gives the image a focal point in the center of the painting. It draws your attention to what the people
are doing and how they are interacting with each other. The emotions on the peoples faces are very sad
and not upbeat, they do not seem to be having fun and enjoying their time. All of the people in the
painting are with each other in a clump. No people are away from the group and they are all focused in
on what the two people in the center are doing which seems to be washing cloths. ... Show more

The image has bright colors such as red, orange, and greens that jump out at you and make you feel
like you are right next to the image. In the painting the people are found in pairs or a small group. This
makes them look happy and seem pleased with one another. There is even a small group in the back
that is dancing around hand in hand. The people have an auras around them that are green showing
love and happiness. All of the people and engaged with one another and have a happy look on their
face that life is

Theodore Roosevelt s Influence On Government
Theodore Roosevelt once stated Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the
natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your
children s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches
or its romance. Theodore Roosevelt, the twenty sixth President of the United States was one of the
greats. Theodore Roosevelt was considered one of the first of the Presidents to push conservation and
preservation of the United States and its natural beauty. Theodore Roosevelt created many laws and

In government many political leaders love to get peoples votes because the more votes they get the
better chance of winning the election they have. So many political leaders sway towards what they
believe the people feel they need and want their government to do about certain problems. This then
makes for political leaders seem to know what they can do to help the people and get a benefit out of
not only being elected but being able to save the environment. Due to this fact political leaders realize
that people are all for conservation because they want to save the Earth so they will be able to keep
living on this planet. This is why many political leaders have at least one or more conservational
benefit that they want to proceed with if they get elected into government. This sometimes doesn t
happen in government though because they may get elected then a big event happens and they have to
worry more about the major event then there ideas on how to save the environment. This can be seen
by one of the biggest influences in government our current President Barack Obama. In Barack
Obama s first term he placed a law into place that in turn ended up being one of the most significant
conservation milestones in a decade. Chock full of new protections for pristine and historic places, the
measure sets the gold standard for land preservation by designating more than 2 million acres in nine
states as wilderness. (Danowitz 1). Due to this Obama became very popular with all the
conservationist organizations and it also boosted his appeal to the people to see that he was

Compare And Contrast Bo And Odysseus
Jesse Jackson stated, If you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against
the odds. (Brainyquote.com) this quote can be applied to real life or fiction. Jeannette, Bo, and
Odysseus embody this quote in their existence. All three of these characters have situations in their
lives where at least one person has put them down and are adamant that they cannot fulfill the goals
that they have set for themselves. Odysseus from The Odyssey, Jeannette Walls from The Glass
Castle, and Bo Brewster from Ironman are characters who, when told they can t achieve what they are
striving for, each have at least one person who sincerely believes that they can accomplish their goal.

Bo has several individuals who believe in him, but one role model he is able to look up to is Mr.
Serbousek, who is Bo s journalism teacher and mentor. Bo is a student with anger management
problems, and he is forced to enroll into an anger management class after a fight with his English
teacher. Bo wants to compete in the Yukon Jack Ironman Triathlon. However, being in anger
management, having a very rocky relationship with his father, and having to deal with his bully
Wyrak, the triathlon is not an event that he can simply commence. Throughout the book, Bo tackles
his troubles one by one with the help of Mr. Serbousek. Mr. Serbousek states, You got nothing to

Challenges and Opportunities of Achieving Consensus on a...
Reforms and changes in the United Nations have always been fraught with obstacles that must be
overcome amidst competing national interests of member states. There are challenges that must be
addressed and opportunities that must be seized for member states to come into consensus on a
proposal that would have repercussions and consequences to international and national policies and
norms, which would affect domestic, regional and international relations. The UN Emergency Peace
Service proposal, which aims to effectively and quickly respond to genocide and other humanitarian
crimes, is no exception. Challenges abound, but not without opportunities to move forward.

The NAM has the biggest number of member states and there is power in number. These countries use
their number to block proposals and because a two third majority vote is needed in the General
Assembly, the NAM is a huge challenge that has to be overcome. While not all members of the bloc
categorically oppose the proposal because of their ties with other bloc members through bilateral
and/or multilateral agreements, pressure from the bloc and regional organisations is significant enough
for them to abide by group decision. The position of a country, particularly a small and weak state, in
the bloc negotiations may altogether be supplanted by the position of regional or bloc powers.
The Philippines, for example, as it stepped down as a non permanent member of the Security Council
became sceptical of the principle of the responsibility to protect . Although the Philippines eventually
supported it, it opposed non consensual deployment of UNEPS citing the right to state sovereignty and
non interference to internal affairs in deference to strong members of the bloc and regional powers. It
recognises its responsibility to protect its citizens from R2P crimes, but not to act beyond which the
Charter authorizes. The Philippines representative to the United Nations, HE Hilario Davide, in his
speech at the thematic debate at the General Assembly last July 2009 expressed the country s support

The Challenges Of Diversity In The Film Industry
Diversity in The Film Industry
There is no questioning the fact that diversity is vital to a community; however, the way the film
industry is makes films is forced and feels as if they are simply checking off boxes to create diversity.
This allows a question to be posed: is no diversity better than forced diversity? This is a question that
comes up a lot in the twenty first century and is something that is asked when looking at film. The
film industry before the twenty first century featured very little diversity, and minorities usually
received supporting roles. Diversity has increased in the twenty first century; however, there is still
room for improvement. One criticism of modern film is the lack of true diversity. People believe that
film has been whitewashed or the historical event and cultural practices have been changed to be more
desireable or more easily understood for white audiences. A mild example can be seen in Aloha which
was released in 2015, where the actors casted for asian and hawaiian role were white. An extreme
example can be seen in Birth of a Nation released in 1915, where white actors donned black face paint
and fought against Ku Klux Klan members that were protecting the Aryan cause. The film industry
has moved away from blatant acts of racism and now see diversity as a way to make more money,
rather than a way to represent all races and cultures. Although in the twenty first century film has more
diversity than films before the twenty first

Essay on Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman is
wrought with symbolism from the opening scene. Many symbols illustrate the themes of success and
failure. They include the apartment buildings, the rubber hose, Willy s brother Ben, the tape recorder,
and the seeds for the garden. These symbols represent Willy s attempts to be successful and his
impending failure. When Willy and Linda purchased their home in Brooklyn, it seemed far removed
form the city. Willy was young and strong and he believed he had a future full of success. He and his
sons cut the tree limbs that threatened his home and put up a hammock that he would enjoy with his
children. The green fields ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wife Linda, who finds the hose, knows what he was going to do with it, as does Biff. When
confronted by Biff, Willy not only denies that he was going to use the hose, but also denies ever
seeing it before. Instead of being remembered as a successful businessman who died, Willy is seen by
his family as a failure who cannot even commit suicide or tell the truth. Willy s brother Ben seems to
symbolize all of Willy s dreams that have not borne fruit. Ben provides an example of the type of
success that Willy desires. Ben went into the jungle with nothing and became extremely wealthy. Ben
achieved in a few years what Willy has dreamed about his entire life. Ben also provides additional
evidence on the foolish behavior and poor decisions made by Willy. Ben offers to take Willy with him
and make him rich an offer that Willy declines. Another important symbol is Howard s tape recorder.
It represents the many material objects wealthy businessmen could provide for their families and for
themselves. Willy wanted this lifestyle; he wanted something he could lay his hands on (Miller pg. ).
It would not be enough to just be successful; Willy wanted to be able to show people material
representations of his success. The tape recorder shows that Howard has reached this level of success.
Yet while the recorder symbolizes the wealth and power of Howard, it also represents Willy s
discouragement and

Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, And President Van Buren
This war began when the White man crossed the Atlantic Ocean in search of independence. They left
Europe and slowly began fighting for a better life which eventually led to their break away from the
harsh brutalities of the British government. When, in all reality, their search for independence led to
the abolishment of the freedom of the Native Americans. Instead of placing light onto this subject, it is
swept under the rug in schools across America today. I believe that the way the American government
chose to gain territory was selfish and ignorant and led to the loss of many cultures and precious lives.
Some of the ways this happened was by the removal of rights, battles, untruthful treaties, and
confiscation of land. In many ways American history books and movies portray Christopher
Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and President Van Buren to be American heroes, but these so called
heroes are actually murderers, thieves, and liars. Jackson and Van Buren believed that the Indians
needed to become civilized and convert to Christianity, yet the actions these two presidents practiced
were opposite of what the religion boasts. Obviously, they were the ones who needed to become
civilized and remember where they came from and that what they were taking away from the Indians
is exactly what they had fought for. Whenever Jackson was elected president, he implemented laws
that did away with the tribe as a legal unit and made them subject to militia duty and state taxes,

Effects Of Depression On Young Females And Increase The...
Depression decreases a person s overall quality of life. The National Institute of Mental Health
(NIMH) a government agency, affirms that depression is the most common form of mood disorder in
the United States (NIHM, 2015). Depression involves a combination of genetic, biological,
environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH, 2015). It affects work, family life and relationships.
Although depression usually affects adults, children and adolescents experience depression and are
most likely affected into adulthood. (Guttmann Sameroff, 2004). This paper will evaluate how
conflicts between mother and daughter relationships directly affects depressive symptoms in
adolescent girls. Finally, this paper examines the preventive and intervention strategies to help control
depression in young females and increase the relationship between mother and daughter during
adolescence years. Recent studies have shown that females are at a greater risk to experience
depression than males (Daley Rao, 2000, Morris, McGrath, Goldman Rottenberg, 2014). Adolescence
is a time in young girl s lives that they are faced with transitions. A time when adolescence begins at
13 years old (Morris, McGrath, Goldman, Rottenberg, 2014) and young girls are faced with increases
in social and academic demands (Daley Rao, 2000). According to Gutman and Sameroff (2004), this
is a time in an adolescent girl s life that stressors can predict more serious problems (Gutman
Sameroff, 2004).

RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California
University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central resources
to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called RCMS.
According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective system.
However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the system
named as perverse incentives , including discouragement of innovations, raising the barriers on
multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of
manipulation of the financial data.
Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed on
deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than
focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated
because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new ideas
which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten the
university s long term profit.
Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches
require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work of a
group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before
implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems

Raising Minimum Wage Research Paper
Living on minimum wage with companies that pay with the bare minimum has never been a walk in
the park for anyone. Whether you are an individual that lives by yourself or a parent that has children
to take care of, minimum wage doesn t provide enough to live a comfortable life. Many people say
that if the minimum wage is raised, there will be negative repercussions. However, there is evidence
that shows the complete opposite. This evidence would include how living conditions would improve,
happier employees result in better work output, and there would be an increase in sales due to people
being able to afford more. Raising the minimum wage to match rates of inflation would benefit and
improve lives. The life of someone whose only choice to make a living is through a low paying,
minimum wage job isn t easy. One of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employees don t seem as miserable to go to their minimum wage jobs when they feel like they re
being paid fairly for the work they are contributing to. More money for the employees takes stress off
their backs because living on minimum wages makes things tight. Raising it will give these employees
a bit of wiggle room. Michael Ungar wrote an article on the psychology of what could happen if the
minimum wage was raised. In his article, he talks about how family life would be improved because
parents will be less stressed. Workers of companies will be less stressed about making ends meet when
they have extra money to use as they please. An example of a company that took it into their own
hands to show their employees that their work needed to be valued more is Costco. Costco pays their
starting hourly employees $11.50 and an average of $20 or more. Their employees are also given
health benefits, which makes people even happier when they know they re covered when they get
sick. Companies also benefit from raising the minimum

The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
It was much pleasanter at home, thought poor Alice, `when one wasn t always growing larger and
smaller, and being ordered about by mice and rabbits. I almost wish I hadn t gone down that rabbit
hole and yet and yet it s rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can have
happened to me . Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland which takes the reader into the fantasy world of
rabbit holes and mad hatters, magic cakes and secret doors, very articulately conveys that food can be
used as a temptation or as a ploy tool to trap the protagonist to indulge in mischievous activities.
Caroll s Alice not only instantaneously grows in size when she eats certain foods but also shrinks
when she eats or drinks certain things as well. Food fantasies play a very crucial role in children s
literature be it in Alice in Wonderland or C.S. Lewis 1950 allegorical novel , The Lion, the Witch, and
the Wardrobe. Both these fantastical stories focus on interpersonal conflicts and food fantasies of the
child protagonist. Lewis s novel reflects Edmund Penvensie s weakness for sweet foods, which are
quickly discerned by the White Witch. Both Caroll and Lewis allude the significance of food in
relation to adulthood and childhood, using food as a dichotomic symbol for empowerment and
domination and as a medium for didactic teachings.. In these fantasy stories and in their imaginary
worlds children are allowed to enjoy enticing foods that perhaps do not exist in reality, which

Atticus Real Courage
I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in
his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it

Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee helps define what real courage is and how it should be taught.
Throughout this book many characters had the right mind set when it came to courageous deeds.
Atticus in this story was a big believer in standing up for whats right or having courage to do the right
thing. He displayed this many ways but one that stood out to me was when he took the Tom Robinson

Jem People in their right minds never take pride in their talents (Lee 113). This ability he has to teach
his kids to be humble or to have the courage not to brag or talk about their talents was an amaznig

courage in many ways. Atticus once said There s a lot of ugly things in this world, son. I wish I could

Radioactivity Lab Report
Objective
Radioactivity is present all throughout the environments on earth, which relates to the unstable atomic
nuclei. Going into detail, radioactivity occurs in unstable atomic nuclei and is caused by the
spontaneous disintegration of atomic nuclei. Radiation is used in numerous ways that are used in
experiments and medical procedures. In this article, radioactivity will be defined, the three types of
radioactivity will be explained, and the different methods of radiation will be illustrated.
Introduction Nuclei are formed with a higher stability after unstable atomic nuclei spontaneously
decompose, and this process is called radioactivity. Therefore, radioactivity refers to the particles that
are released from nuclei due to nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The alpha particles have an atomic mass of 4 and a charge of +2. When an alpha particle is released
from the nucleus, the mass number of the particle decreases by four units and the atomic number
decreases by two units. An example of this would be where the helium nucleus is the alpha particle.
The energy is a collection of stable nucleons, and those heavier nuclei that can be perceived as
collections of alpha particles, such as carbon 12.01 or oxygen 16.00 are also stable. Beta radiation is a
stream of electrons that are called beta particles. When the beta particle is released, a neutron is
transformed to a proton in the nucleus, thus maintaining the mass number of the nucleus. Although,
the atomic number increases by one unit. An example of this occurring is when the electron is the beta
particle. Pursuing this further, gamma rays are high energy photons with a very short wavelength of
0.0005 to 0.1 nm. The emission of gamma radiation results from an energy change within the atomic
nucleus. Gamma emission changes neither the atomic number nor the atomic mass. Alpha and beta
emission are often accompanied by gamma emission, as an excited nucleus drops to a lower and more
stable energy

The Cold Side Of Concrete
There are many places having long cold season. Due to time constraints, many constructions
inevitably do concreting in winter. The cold injury of concrete are that flake peeling is caused by the
freeze thaw damage of concrete surface material and internal damage produced in the concrete may
lead to concrete properties. Prevention the cold damage of concrete in winter construction is
important. According to the article, Energy Efficient Approach to Cold Weather Concreting , Barna,
Seman, and Korhonen(2011) introduce a new approach to cold weather concreting which is antifreeze
concrete. They thinks that traditional cold weather concreting method is expensive and energy in
efficient, because traditional method requires artificial heating of the materials and needs to create a
suitable environment for curing normal concrete. This study compare the estimated annual cost in
1991 and in 2011 to show the antifreeze concrete result in saving money and explains an initial
laboratory tests to show that antifreeze concrete mixtures are capable of being workable, entraining
air, and meeting the design freezing point. The authors also explains a performance test to show that
the strength gain of concrete cured at 4°C is same as cured at +5°C, and that antifreeze mixtures made
concrete be durable. Thus, they conclude that the antifreeze concrete doesn t need artificial heating
which results in saving time, money, and energy in constructing process. The article is convincing.

Essay on Running Record Analysis
Every day teachers are required to make decisions before, during and after teaching. Some of these
decisions will seem small and insignificant and others will have far reaching consequences. All of the
assessment undertaken and subsequent decisions made can potentially enhance teaching and influence
student learning outcomes for the better (Brady amp; Kennedy, 2009). There are numerous things to
be assessed and various methods for assessing. One example of this is the assessment of reading. A
Running Record is one method of assessing a child s reading (Hill, 2012). The running record allows

the time James reaches the fifth line of the text he seems to have worked out he can predict the
language of the text using his memory for the text and meaning information he ascertains from the

At line 16 James makes an error reading The little bear instead of The teddy bear . Given the repetitive
and predictable nature of the preceding text it may be concluded that James is using meaning cues
from the illustrations to work out the sentence will be about a bear coupled with what he already

structural cues. As a result of not utilising all the sources of information afforded by the text his
understanding and comprehension of the text is quite limited and there is no evidence he has really
connected with the text. In recent years there has been much research on reading

Challenges Of The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad was a great engineering achievement that brought a more efficient
means of transportation from the Eastern United States to the Western United States. There were many
challenges for the development of a project that everyone agreed was necessary for the development
of the country. These challenges included a nation that was divided by the Civil War, as well as how
such a project could be financed and planned for. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad
rapidly increased America s population in the West, and gave the Country the ability to protect itself
on boast the East and West Coasts. The expansion in the West included taking over lands from the
Native Americans who lived on the land. This was the downside associated with the Transcontinental
Railroad. The completion of the railroad brought about a great appreciation for the contributions of the
Chinese immigrants and allowed many to improve their lives. The completion of the Transcontinental
Railroad was a great accomplishment that helped the United States develop as a nation. The
Transcontinental Railroad could not have been achieved without the invention of the locomotive. The
idea of the locomotive was first thought of by James Watt in 1769. Watt had a patent on the design of

Around the world, the Catholic faith is celebrated daily in similar and different ways. The Catholic
Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets the
Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of the
message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered and
portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Merici has a tall building with a very plain look
to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite s service was long and
overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two celebrations run
similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and its attendants. At Saint
Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main altar constructed from granite.
Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross. Along the walls of the church are art
pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast, Servite s mass is held in a theater with multiple
rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a folding table with a cloth covering the legs. SAM
has a very plain interior design, with two statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is of Joseph. Due
to Servite s emphasis on respecting Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary. SAM s exterior is
very tall and narrow while Servite s theater looks like any other theater

Classification Of Substance Abuse Essay
Substance abuse is where the user takes excess amount of drugs or alcohol which is harmful to them.
There are many symptoms associated with substance abuse which are labile moods, delusions,
hallucinations and much more. They usually carry positive symptoms as these individuals are given
something they do not usually have.
In the DSM IV classification systems, substance abuse disorder is categorised into three different
groups. First category being intoxication, second being abuse and third is dependence as expressed by
(McMurran, Khalifa and Gibbon, 2009). There is a general agreement in research studies that an
increase in violence can be the result of dependency and abuse of alcohol and drugs. Co morbidity
patients increase the risk of violence more than substance abuse alone as the abuse alcohol and drugs
can prompt violent behaviour without a psychiatric condition. (DiClemente, Nidecker and Bellack,
2008) argue that studies have demonstrated that nearly fifty percent of all people suffering from
serious mental illnesses have met the criteria for a substance misuse disorder. These two disorders can
cause complex and harmful interactions as it impacts with treatment and the outcomes. As some
people may not engage as well with treatment having co morbidity as it can impair their judgment,
worsen prognosis and this can result them slipping under the radar and continue with violent acts ...

Jack Nicklaus Essay
Jack Nicklaus
For the past 30 years, Jack Nicklaus has been considered by many to be the greatest golfer of all
time(1). His stamina has matched that of Arnold Palmer, and only the likes of Ben Hogan, Byron
Nelson, Bobby Jones, and Tiger Woods are to be considered players in Nicklaus league. In numbers of
major tournaments won, Nicklaus stands alone with 18 victories(1), a number that does not include
major titles won on the Champions Tour. He has won 73 times on the PGA Tour and has 58 second
place and 36 third place finishes, as well as a total of 113 victories worldwide.(1) Nicklaus has
finished top PGA Tour money winner 8 times and has also held the tour s low scoring average eight
times.(1) He was named the PGA s Player of the Year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he never lit a cigarette on the golf course, unlike every other smoker in the field, even when
he was stuck in a trying moment. When asked why this was so, Jack simply replied, I just don t think
about it. (2)
In 1963, Nicklaus won the Masters and the PGA Championship(1). He ran away with the 1965
Masters, winning by nine strokes, in what Bobby Jones called quot;the greatest
Page 2 performance in golf history. (2) Nicklaus shattered Ben Hogan s Masters record of 274 by
three strokes.(1)Nicklaus successfully defended his Masters title the following year and won his first
British Open, becoming one of only five golfers to win all four majors(1) (the others are Gene
Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, and Tiger Woods).(1) At the 1967 U.S. Open, Nicklaus pulled away
from Palmer in the final round to win by four strokes(1), finally proving to Arnie s Army that Jack
Nicklaus was truly the best golfer in the world.
The beginning of the 1970 s was the start to Jack s most dominant decade. When it came to winning
consistently, Nicklaus was a machine. Between 1970 and 1975 he won seven more majors, the only
victories quot;that count, quot;(2) as he liked to say. His 1973 PGA Championship title put him one
ahead of Bobby Jones thirteen major victories, and his 1975 Masters was his fifth win at Augusta(1),
and was hailed by

The Seven Commandments In America
There are many commandments in America. Most of them are very important in our society. Some are
written rules, and some are unwritten. They go from not stealing to saying bless you. All Americans
should follow these seven commandments to show that they have respect and manners. When you
walk in a room, you should speak. You should speak because it shows that you have respect. This is
necessary especially if they are older. It is rude to walk in a room without speaking. Don t wait for
them to speak to you. Don t talk while someone else is talking. It is very rude and disrespectful. It
shows that person that you don t have respect for them. It also show that you aren t listening to what
they re saying. It let

Women s Influence On The Early Years Of Jazz
There are many important women who significantly contributed to Jazz and left a legacy of women
artists. In the early years of Jazz, it was considered a male professional and women who tried to be
part of Jazz faced obstacles. This was from male musicians, critics, record producers, club owners,
concerts and also racism. Despite the obstacles, women forced their way to be part of Jazz and pushed
for equality and visibility ( Gender Discrimination, 2014).
Dolly Adams was a pianist and multi instrumentalist in the New Orleans Jazz scene. She was
recognized for her skill on the piano, playing, drums, guitar and trumpet. She was born and raised in
New Orleans Algiers neighborhood. Dolly Adams had the opportunity to play with some of the great
jazz performers of her time such as Louis Armstrong, Joe king Oliver and others (Hobbs, 2013).
Adam faced obstacles for being a woman in male dominated field of Jazz was. Her role as a wife was
also full of obstacles. Adam reportedly got married in 1922, and due to pressure from her husband left
her role as a pianist for over two decades. She returned to Jazz during 1950s and 1960s ( Hobbs,
2013).
Lil Hardin Armstrong, who was also known as Hot Miss Lil was a pianist, composer, arranger and a
bandleader in the 1920 s, before she married Louis Armstrong. Lil and Louis were bands mates in
Oliver s Creole Jazz Band. Early on, she performed in Sugar Johnny s Creole Orchestra, Freddie
Keppard s band and her own band at the Dreamland

Crisis Management
Crisis management Once a crisis happens in an organization, the nature of the activities undertaken to
respond to a major threat to the organization is what is referred to as the crisis management. The
management of crisis such as the one in the case study on the copper mine collapse includes
identifying the nature of the crisis and coming up with an appropriate plan to deal with it as the
organization minimizes the damages and ultimately recovering from the crisis. Here there is a lot of
focus that is directed towards the public relations to recover any public image damage suffered during
the crisis as you assure the stakeholders of the recovery. Considerations in this crisis management
There are ten fundamental steps to consider in such a magnitude of crisis as it involves potential life
threatening conditions, as noted below (Khera Communications, Inc. 2009): 1. Have a comprehensive
plan. The mine management should have a comprehensive plan that will enable the organization to get
out of the crisis. The plan should be one that is able to address any bespoke and random vulnerabilities
within the industry. 2. Crisis identification Identify the crisis as soon as possible once it happens and
move fast towards finding a corrective measure. There are three golden rules in PR crisis
communication that are fundamental in crisis control; as soon as a crisis happens, Tell it all, Tell it fast
and Tell it honestly. This consideration will control the flow of the

Why The French Revolutionaries View The Months Of The...
In 1793, the National Convention in Paris created a new calendar for the French republic. The new
calendar renamed the months of the Gregorian calendar and rearranged them so that each month
contained three weeks of ten days each; at the end of each year there were five days of festivals
dedicated to virtue, intelligence, labor, opinion, and rewards. This calendar was kept in place until
1806 when it was abolished by Napoleon. The National Convention and other republican groups cited
many reasons for the adoption of a new calendar, including ridding the republic of the old regime and
implementing a more reasonable system. Although the revolutionaries viewed the calendar as an
improvement, others were quick to point out its flaws. Among the

The TransContinental Railroad Essay
The TransContinental Railroad
If any act symbolized the taming of the Northwest frontier, it was the driving of the final spike to
complete the nation s first transcontinental railroad. 1 The first railroad west of the Mississippi River
was opened on December 23, 1852. Five miles long, the track ran from St. Louis to Cheltanham,
Missouri. Twenty five years prior, there were no railroads in the United States; twenty five years later,
railroads joined the east and west coasts from New York to San Francisco.2 No other single factor
contributed more the commercial and social development of the Pacific Northwest than the arrival of
the railroad. For the first time in history, people could get to the west coast in a matter of ... Show

Each railroad was to receive a 200 foot wide right of way and sections of public lands to help finance
construction. The Northern Pacific s charter originally provided ten alternate sections per mile in
states through which it passed and 20 sections per mile in territories. If sufficient lands were not
available within this grant, other sections could be selected as in lieu from a secondary zone which
reached back from the tracks another 20 miles.8 These land grants contributed greatly to commercial
development and growth of towns along the track routes. A fourth railroad was the Southern Pacific,
which was routed from New Orleans to Los Angeles. The Great Northern Railway was the fifth
transcontinental line. The Great Northern, along with the Northern Pacific, had the greatest impact on
developing the northwest. However, unlike the Northern Pacific, it was not a land grand railroad. It
did not obtain federal loans to help in its construction as did the Union

Essay about Good vs. Evil in Psycho
Psycho
Psycho is a classic suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock which features a central female
protagonist, a seemingly ordinary young woman named Marion Crane, who crosses paths with a
dangerous mentally ill motel owner, Norman Bates. As their strange relationship develops, a dominant
theme of good versus evil is introduced to the audience through the use of characterisation, editing,
mise en scene and various other media techniques.
From the outset, Hitchcock introduces an initial theme of good versus evil during the opening credits.
The title scene could be seen as a reflection of the personality of Norman Bates as the credits
themselves are presented as fragmented titles which come together as one on the screen but then ...

In a similar shot, only half of his face is shown and this clearly symbolises the fact that only one half
of him can ever be fully good at any one time the other half will always remain evil. However,
sympathy is also evoked for Norman in this scene as we see that his mother takes an instant dislike to
Marion something which you would not normally see between two strangers. We see how close and
slightly strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the unnatural dependence they
have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current situation and making him seem like
a good person. A similar effect is used throughout the scene in Norman s parlour by with the use of
light and dark as the lighting picks out significant features such as only one side of Norman s face and
the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its wings spread signifies his mother controlling his
mind and shows that she is ever present, although we never see her, even when he is behaving
normally she will always be inside his mind, therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards
him as he has no control over his actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that
Norman is a predator and the owl is his equal. Like the owl, many other birds are featured in the
parlour scene, linking back to the recurring theme. Framing Marion next to them when she first enters
the room makes her seem vulnerable and presents her as equal

The Moravian Church And How It Pertains To Their Migration...
The Moravian church, with origins in ancient Bohemia and Moravia, has influenced many for over
five centuries, and, a visible part of the Christian Church, its influence has far exceeded its numbers.
The Moravian Church is a denomination within the Protestant religion, and Moravians share the same
core beliefs as all Christians, including that Jesus Christ was born, died, and resurrected. In this
research paper, I will begin with an overview of the Moravian religion and then go on to outline the
expansion of the religion, especially where it pertains to their migration to Door County; I will then
detail the history of the Moravian church in Ephraim, WI, and discuss its influence on the county.
In the mid ninth century Bohemia and Moravia converted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conference in which we by the help of our diagrams found that our $500 would enable us to take up a

Iverson did indeed buy 424.75 acres of land for 478 dollars, and his was the second home constructed
in the village; it remains in its original condition to this day, used as a museum . Church services and
school classes were held Iverson s home until the church was slowly and painstakingly constructed by
Iverson and his congregation from 1857 1859. When completed, the doors were opened on December
18, 1859, and it became the first church on the Door County peninsula.
The church was originally located on the shore, but it was moved to its present location on the hill in
1883. The Ephraim Moravian Church remains the historical center of the village, and, along with the
Bethany Lutheran Church (founded in 1882), the twin white steeples form the distinctive and often

Essay On Teach For America
I seek to join Teach for America to give back to low income communities I have always had a passion
to serve my community, rather if it was by volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club, visiting the
elderly, or lending a helping hand at Habitat for Humanity. If given the opportunity to join Teach for
America I would be able to not only serve a local community but also teach the future leaders of
America. I believe that a quality education should not be upon the basis of race or family income, but
from the quality of the educator that comes in contact with each child. It is as if the quality of the
teacher can somehow have an everlasting effect on the students that he or she comes in contact with. It

impacted by Ms. Gloria Brantley. As a child growing up in rural Georgia I had no aspirations in
furthering my education. I did not dream of being a doctor, teacher or lawyer because I did not have

  • 2. Large Bathers Art is always evolving with the people causing the styles and technique. In the 1900s style of paintings started to change dramatically. The colors got brighter and the lines became more curved, images started to become more abstract. This changed the meaning of the paintings to be a more imaginative and creative. Cezanne and matisse were to artists that painted in the 1900s and they changed with the times. The two paintings The Large Bathers and The Joy of Life are different but also have some similarities. In The Large Bathers the colors are dark, they are sitting around a pond, and it is a large group. Since the colors are very dark and cold it makes the people seem distant. This makes the people go away from us and the blues to stand out. All of the people are sitting around a pond washing cloths. This gives the image a focal point in the center of the painting. It draws your attention to what the people are doing and how they are interacting with each other. The emotions on the peoples faces are very sad and not upbeat, they do not seem to be having fun and enjoying their time. All of the people in the painting are with each other in a clump. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance. Theodore Roosevelt, the twenty sixth President of the United States was one of the greats. Theodore Roosevelt was considered one of the first of the Presidents to push conservation and preservation of the United States and its natural beauty. Theodore Roosevelt created many laws and national parks to contribute to his passion of preserving the United States. He also created the national forestry service and the National Parks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In government many political leaders love to get peoples votes because the more votes they get the better chance of winning the election they have. So many political leaders sway towards what they believe the people feel they need and want their government to do about certain problems. This then makes for political leaders seem to know what they can do to help the people and get a benefit out of not only being elected but being able to save the environment. Due to this fact political leaders realize that people are all for conservation because they want to save the Earth so they will be able to keep living on this planet. This is why many political leaders have at least one or more conservational benefit that they want to proceed with if they get elected into government. This sometimes doesn t happen in government though because they may get elected then a big event happens and they have to worry more about the major event then there ideas on how to save the environment. This can be seen by one of the biggest influences in government our current President Barack Obama. In Barack Obama s first term he placed a law into place that in turn ended up being one of the most significant conservation milestones in a decade. Chock full of new protections for pristine and historic places, the measure sets the gold standard for land preservation by designating more than 2 million acres in nine states as wilderness. (Danowitz 1). Due to this Obama became very popular with all the conservationist organizations and it also boosted his appeal to the people to see that he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Challenges and Opportunities of Achieving Consensus on a... Reforms and changes in the United Nations have always been fraught with obstacles that must be overcome amidst competing national interests of member states. There are challenges that must be addressed and opportunities that must be seized for member states to come into consensus on a proposal that would have repercussions and consequences to international and national policies and norms, which would affect domestic, regional and international relations. The UN Emergency Peace Service proposal, which aims to effectively and quickly respond to genocide and other humanitarian crimes, is no exception. Challenges abound, but not without opportunities to move forward. Challenges to bring about a UNEPS are generally hinged on the issues of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The NAM has the biggest number of member states and there is power in number. These countries use their number to block proposals and because a two third majority vote is needed in the General Assembly, the NAM is a huge challenge that has to be overcome. While not all members of the bloc categorically oppose the proposal because of their ties with other bloc members through bilateral and/or multilateral agreements, pressure from the bloc and regional organisations is significant enough for them to abide by group decision. The position of a country, particularly a small and weak state, in the bloc negotiations may altogether be supplanted by the position of regional or bloc powers. The Philippines, for example, as it stepped down as a non permanent member of the Security Council became sceptical of the principle of the responsibility to protect . Although the Philippines eventually supported it, it opposed non consensual deployment of UNEPS citing the right to state sovereignty and non interference to internal affairs in deference to strong members of the bloc and regional powers. It recognises its responsibility to protect its citizens from R2P crimes, but not to act beyond which the Charter authorizes. • 6. The Challenges Of Diversity In The Film Industry Diversity in The Film Industry There is no questioning the fact that diversity is vital to a community; however, the way the film industry is makes films is forced and feels as if they are simply checking off boxes to create diversity. This allows a question to be posed: is no diversity better than forced diversity? This is a question that comes up a lot in the twenty first century and is something that is asked when looking at film. The film industry before the twenty first century featured very little diversity, and minorities usually received supporting roles. Diversity has increased in the twenty first century; however, there is still room for improvement. One criticism of modern film is the lack of true diversity. People believe that film has been whitewashed or the historical event and cultural practices have been changed to be more desireable or more easily understood for white audiences. A mild example can be seen in Aloha which was released in 2015, where the actors casted for asian and hawaiian role were white. An extreme example can be seen in Birth of a Nation released in 1915, where white actors donned black face paint and fought against Ku Klux Klan members that were protecting the Aryan cause. The film industry has moved away from blatant acts of racism and now see diversity as a way to make more money, rather than a way to represent all races and cultures. Although in the twenty first century film has more diversity than films before the twenty first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Symbolism in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman is wrought with symbolism from the opening scene. Many symbols illustrate the themes of success and failure. They include the apartment buildings, the rubber hose, Willy s brother Ben, the tape recorder, and the seeds for the garden. These symbols represent Willy s attempts to be successful and his impending failure. When Willy and Linda purchased their home in Brooklyn, it seemed far removed form the city. Willy was young and strong and he believed he had a future full of success. He and his sons cut the tree limbs that threatened his home and put up a hammock that he would enjoy with his children. The green fields ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His wife Linda, who finds the hose, knows what he was going to do with it, as does Biff. When confronted by Biff, Willy not only denies that he was going to use the hose, but also denies ever seeing it before. Instead of being remembered as a successful businessman who died, Willy is seen by his family as a failure who cannot even commit suicide or tell the truth. Willy s brother Ben seems to symbolize all of Willy s dreams that have not borne fruit. Ben provides an example of the type of success that Willy desires. Ben went into the jungle with nothing and became extremely wealthy. Ben achieved in a few years what Willy has dreamed about his entire life. Ben also provides additional evidence on the foolish behavior and poor decisions made by Willy. Ben offers to take Willy with him and make him rich an offer that Willy declines. Another important symbol is Howard s tape recorder. It represents the many material objects wealthy businessmen could provide for their families and for themselves. Willy wanted this lifestyle; he wanted something he could lay his hands on (Miller pg. ). It would not be enough to just be successful; Willy wanted to be able to show people material representations of his success. The tape recorder shows that Howard has reached this level of success. Yet while the recorder symbolizes the wealth and power of Howard, it also represents Willy s discouragement and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, And President Van Buren This war began when the White man crossed the Atlantic Ocean in search of independence. They left Europe and slowly began fighting for a better life which eventually led to their break away from the harsh brutalities of the British government. When, in all reality, their search for independence led to the abolishment of the freedom of the Native Americans. Instead of placing light onto this subject, it is swept under the rug in schools across America today. I believe that the way the American government chose to gain territory was selfish and ignorant and led to the loss of many cultures and precious lives. Some of the ways this happened was by the removal of rights, battles, untruthful treaties, and confiscation of land. In many ways American history books and movies portray Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and President Van Buren to be American heroes, but these so called heroes are actually murderers, thieves, and liars. Jackson and Van Buren believed that the Indians needed to become civilized and convert to Christianity, yet the actions these two presidents practiced were opposite of what the religion boasts. Obviously, they were the ones who needed to become civilized and remember where they came from and that what they were taking away from the Indians is exactly what they had fought for. Whenever Jackson was elected president, he implemented laws that did away with the tribe as a legal unit and made them subject to militia duty and state taxes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Effects Of Depression On Young Females And Increase The... Depression decreases a person s overall quality of life. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) a government agency, affirms that depression is the most common form of mood disorder in the United States (NIHM, 2015). Depression involves a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH, 2015). It affects work, family life and relationships. Although depression usually affects adults, children and adolescents experience depression and are most likely affected into adulthood. (Guttmann Sameroff, 2004). This paper will evaluate how conflicts between mother and daughter relationships directly affects depressive symptoms in adolescent girls. Finally, this paper examines the preventive and intervention strategies to help control depression in young females and increase the relationship between mother and daughter during adolescence years. Recent studies have shown that females are at a greater risk to experience depression than males (Daley Rao, 2000, Morris, McGrath, Goldman Rottenberg, 2014). Adolescence is a time in young girl s lives that they are faced with transitions. A time when adolescence begins at 13 years old (Morris, McGrath, Goldman, Rottenberg, 2014) and young girls are faced with increases in social and academic demands (Daley Rao, 2000). According to Gutman and Sameroff (2004), this is a time in an adolescent girl s life that stressors can predict more serious problems (Gutman Sameroff, 2004). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central resources to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective system. However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the system named as perverse incentives , including discouragement of innovations, raising the barriers on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of manipulation of the financial data. Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed on deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten the university s long term profit. Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work of a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether you are an individual that lives by yourself or a parent that has children to take care of, minimum wage doesn t provide enough to live a comfortable life. Many people say that if the minimum wage is raised, there will be negative repercussions. However, there is evidence that shows the complete opposite. This evidence would include how living conditions would improve, happier employees result in better work output, and there would be an increase in sales due to people being able to afford more. Raising the minimum wage to match rates of inflation would benefit and improve lives. The life of someone whose only choice to make a living is through a low paying, minimum wage job isn t easy. One of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employees don t seem as miserable to go to their minimum wage jobs when they feel like they re being paid fairly for the work they are contributing to. More money for the employees takes stress off their backs because living on minimum wages makes things tight. Raising it will give these employees a bit of wiggle room. Michael Ungar wrote an article on the psychology of what could happen if the minimum wage was raised. In his article, he talks about how family life would be improved because parents will be less stressed. Workers of companies will be less stressed about making ends meet when they have extra money to use as they please. An example of a company that took it into their own hands to show their employees that their work needed to be valued more is Costco. Costco pays their starting hourly employees $11.50 and an average of $20 or more. Their employees are also given health benefits, which makes people even happier when they know they re covered when they get sick. Companies also benefit from raising the minimum ... • 16. The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe It was much pleasanter at home, thought poor Alice, `when one wasn t always growing larger and smaller, and being ordered about by mice and rabbits. I almost wish I hadn t gone down that rabbit hole and yet and yet it s rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can have happened to me . Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland which takes the reader into the fantasy world of rabbit holes and mad hatters, magic cakes and secret doors, very articulately conveys that food can be used as a temptation or as a ploy tool to trap the protagonist to indulge in mischievous activities. Caroll s Alice not only instantaneously grows in size when she eats certain foods but also shrinks when she eats or drinks certain things as well. Food fantasies play a very crucial role in children s literature be it in Alice in Wonderland or C.S. Lewis 1950 allegorical novel , The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Both these fantastical stories focus on interpersonal conflicts and food fantasies of the child protagonist. Lewis s novel reflects Edmund Penvensie s weakness for sweet foods, which are quickly discerned by the White Witch. Both Caroll and Lewis allude the significance of food in relation to adulthood and childhood, using food as a dichotomic symbol for empowerment and domination and as a medium for didactic teachings.. In these fantasy stories and in their imaginary worlds children are allowed to enjoy enticing foods that perhaps do not exist in reality, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee helps define what real courage is and how it should be taught. Throughout this book many characters had the right mind set when it came to courageous deeds. Going into detail, radioactivity occurs in unstable atomic nuclei and is caused by the spontaneous disintegration of atomic nuclei. Radiation is used in numerous ways that are used in experiments and medical procedures. In this article, radioactivity will be defined, the three types of radioactivity will be explained, and the different methods of radiation will be illustrated. Introduction Nuclei are formed with a higher stability after unstable atomic nuclei spontaneously decompose, and this process is called radioactivity. Therefore, radioactivity refers to the particles that are released from nuclei due to nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alpha particles have an atomic mass of 4 and a charge of +2. When an alpha particle is released from the nucleus, the mass number of the particle decreases by four units and the atomic number decreases by two units. An example of this would be where the helium nucleus is the alpha particle. The energy is a collection of stable nucleons, and those heavier nuclei that can be perceived as collections of alpha particles, such as carbon 12.01 or oxygen 16.00 are also stable. Beta radiation is a stream of electrons that are called beta particles. When the beta particle is released, a neutron is transformed to a proton in the nucleus, thus maintaining the mass number of the nucleus. Although, the atomic number increases by one unit. An example of this occurring is when the electron is the beta particle. Pursuing this further, gamma rays are high energy photons with a very short wavelength of 0.0005 to 0.1 nm. The emission of gamma radiation results from an energy change within the atomic nucleus. Gamma emission changes neither the atomic number nor the atomic mass. Alpha and beta emission are often accompanied by gamma emission, as an excited nucleus drops to a lower and more stable energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cold injury of concrete are that flake peeling is caused by the freeze thaw damage of concrete surface material and internal damage produced in the concrete may lead to concrete properties. Prevention the cold damage of concrete in winter construction is important. According to the article, Energy Efficient Approach to Cold Weather Concreting , Barna, Seman, and Korhonen(2011) introduce a new approach to cold weather concreting which is antifreeze concrete. They thinks that traditional cold weather concreting method is expensive and energy in efficient, because traditional method requires artificial heating of the materials and needs to create a suitable environment for curing normal concrete. This study compare the estimated annual cost in 1991 and in 2011 to show the antifreeze concrete result in saving money and explains an initial laboratory tests to show that antifreeze concrete mixtures are capable of being workable, entraining air, and meeting the design freezing point. The authors also explains a performance test to show that the strength gain of concrete cured at 4°C is same as cured at +5°C, and that antifreeze mixtures made concrete be durable. Thus, they conclude that the antifreeze concrete doesn t need artificial heating which results in saving time, money, and energy in constructing process. The article is convincing. The ... Some of these decisions will seem small and insignificant and others will have far reaching consequences. All of the assessment undertaken and subsequent decisions made can potentially enhance teaching and influence student learning outcomes for the better (Brady amp; Kennedy, 2009). There are numerous things to be assessed and various methods for assessing. One example of this is the assessment of reading. By the time James reaches the fifth line of the text he seems to have worked out he can predict the language of the text using his memory for the text and meaning information he ascertains from the illustrations (Hill, 2012). At line 16 James makes an error reading The little bear instead of The teddy bear . Given the repetitive and predictable nature of the preceding text it may be concluded that James is using meaning cues from the illustrations to work out the sentence will be about a bear coupled with what he already knows about the text; that little was used in all previous sentences to describe each object. James has worked out that this text uses both images and print to convey meaning (Holliday, 2008). James appears to be using limited cross checking behaviours. Self correction behaviour is nil, at least in this instance. Evidence shows he is using mostly meaning and visual cues and not drawing on structural cues. Challenges Of The Transcontinental Railroad The Transcontinental Railroad was a great engineering achievement that brought a more efficient means of transportation from the Eastern United States to the Western United States. There were many challenges for the development of a project that everyone agreed was necessary for the development of the country. These challenges included a nation that was divided by the Civil War, as well as how such a project could be financed and planned for. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad rapidly increased America s population in the West, and gave the Country the ability to protect itself on boast the East and West Coasts. The expansion in the West included taking over lands from the Native Americans who lived on the land. This was the downside associated with the Transcontinental Railroad. The completion of the railroad brought about a great appreciation for the contributions of the Chinese immigrants and allowed many to improve their lives. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad was a great accomplishment that helped the United States develop as a nation. The Catholic Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets the Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of the message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered and portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Merici has a tall building with a very plain look to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite s service was long and overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two celebrations run similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and its attendants. At Saint Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main altar constructed from granite. Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross. Along the walls of the church are art pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast, Servite s mass is held in a theater with multiple rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a folding table with a cloth covering the legs. SAM has a very plain interior design, with two statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is of Joseph. Due to Servite s emphasis on respecting Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary. SAM s exterior is very tall and narrow while Servite s theater looks like any other theater ... There are many symptoms associated with substance abuse which are labile moods, delusions, hallucinations and much more. They usually carry positive symptoms as these individuals are given something they do not usually have. In the DSM IV classification systems, substance abuse disorder is categorised into three different groups. First category being intoxication, second being abuse and third is dependence as expressed by (McMurran, Khalifa and Gibbon, 2009). There is a general agreement in research studies that an increase in violence can be the result of dependency and abuse of alcohol and drugs. Co morbidity patients increase the risk of violence more than substance abuse alone as the abuse alcohol and drugs can prompt violent behaviour without a psychiatric condition. (DiClemente, Nidecker and Bellack, 2008) argue that studies have demonstrated that nearly fifty percent of all people suffering from serious mental illnesses have met the criteria for a substance misuse disorder. Crisis Management Crisis management Once a crisis happens in an organization, the nature of the activities undertaken to respond to a major threat to the organization is what is referred to as the crisis management. The management of crisis such as the one in the case study on the copper mine collapse includes identifying the nature of the crisis and coming up with an appropriate plan to deal with it as the organization minimizes the damages and ultimately recovering from the crisis. Here there is a lot of focus that is directed towards the public relations to recover any public image damage suffered during the crisis as you assure the stakeholders of the recovery. Considerations in this crisis management There are ten fundamental steps to consider in such a magnitude of crisis as it involves potential life threatening conditions, as noted below (Khera Communications, Inc. 2009): 1. Have a comprehensive plan. The mine management should have a comprehensive plan that will enable the organization to get out of the crisis. The plan should be one that is able to address any bespoke and random vulnerabilities within the industry. 2. The new calendar renamed the months of the Gregorian calendar and rearranged them so that each month contained three weeks of ten days each; at the end of each year there were five days of festivals dedicated to virtue, intelligence, labor, opinion, and rewards. This calendar was kept in place until 1806 when it was abolished by Napoleon. The National Convention and other republican groups cited many reasons for the adoption of a new calendar, including ridding the republic of the old regime and implementing a more reasonable system. We see how close and slightly strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the unnatural dependence they have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current situation and making him seem like a good person. A similar effect is used throughout the scene in Norman s parlour by with the use of light and dark as the lighting picks out significant features such as only one side of Norman s face and the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its wings spread signifies his mother controlling his mind and shows that she is ever present, although we never see her, even when he is behaving normally she will always be inside his mind, therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards him as he has no control over his actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that Norman is a predator and the owl is his equal.
