The Importance Of Segregation In Public School
In 1948, a black American, George McLaurin, was accepted to the University of Oklahoma but treated
with much disrespect. He sat in a desk roped off from the others in class, he ate lunch by himself, and
he studied in a separate library. This is just one of the many things that occurred during the time of
separate but equal . Due to the poor conditions in black schools under separate but equal , the main
argument of the NAACP attorneys cases was to end segregation in schools, leading to the Brown v.
Board of Education Supreme Court decision to integrate black and white public schools.
The school conditions for blacks under the separate but equal doctrine were awful. School terms for
blacks were only 6 months, class sizes were large, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This greatly impacted public schools across America and the south prepared for change, protests, and
violence. Governors and lawmakers didn t want to push school changes because the majority of voters
were white (19), North Carolina passed a law making it so that if a school system refused to integrate,
parents had to file an individual lawsuit (20), the governor of Arkansas ordered the National Guard to
prevent nine students from entering Little Rock Central High School (23) and, James Meredith had the
right to attend University of Mississippi but even after the integration, the school remained all white
and they wouldn t let James in (25). Although people reacted to the Supreme Court decision in a vile
way, great things came out of it out of it. By 1972, 90% of schools were integrated and all of these
acts helped lead to the Civil Rights Act which Lyndon Johnson signs and makes segregation

Advantages Of Aquaculture
Aquaculture in the Pacific
Abstract:
Aquaculture is currently of little significance when compared to fishing in the Pacific. There is an
exception, black pearl farming in eastern Polynesia. Aquaculture needs considerable development in
most places before it can be deemed economical and sustainable. Some farming that takes place are
shrimp, tilapia and seaweed (future commercial export prospect). But, all these are still in the
experimental stage. The only way aquaculture can expand is when the Pacific will be provided with
better production methods for current species, new techniques and more new species. These new
methods that can help expansion should be simple yet flexible for easy adapted to the environment
and market constraints. They should have low operating costs and approach integrated fisheries bodies
with favorably low investment cost. It also needs associations with commercial scale operations to
demonstrate economic viability.
Pacific Islands have many factors that favor aquaculture and stock enhancement development in the
coastal areas. These factors are; abundant diversity of coral reef species (high demand), the location is

Reflection Of A Colloquium
Since I am a freshman, and this was my first colloquium, I did not know what to expect. I select Greek
life, bullying in adulthood, and the Great Blasket Islands. Bullying in adulthood got cancelled and I
went to human trafficking and domestic violence instead. I was very interested in learning new
information about these interesting topics. I was especially excited about hearing Mrs. Gertz talk
about her trip to the Great Blasket Islands. I have her for English and she got me hooked the first time
she mentioned she would be doing her chat over her trip. The first chat I went to was over Greek life
and the whole era in general. The most interesting story that the professor told was about Oedipus.
Laius and Jocasta are the king and queen on Thebes. The king goes to a fortune teller because they are
having trouble conceiving a child. He is told, they will have a child, but his son will kill him and
marry and have children with the queen. They send the child to someone far away, so the prophesy
cannot be filled. The young boy ends up becoming a king somewhere else then goes out and meets his
father and they fight and he kills his father. He had no idea who the man was. He ventures out and
kills a sphynx and then becomes king because of that. He never thought the place he now ended up at
was supposed to be his true home. He marries the current queen and the prophesy is filled. The story
shows there are some things you cannot escape but you make your own legacy at the same

1.1 Consumer Behavior
The term consumer behavior is defined as the behavior that consumers display in searching for
purchasing, using, evaluating disposing of products services that they expect will satisfy their needs.
Consumer behavior focuses on how individuals make decisions to spend their available resources
(time, money, effort) on consumption related items. That includes what they buy, why they buy it,
when they buy it, where they buy it, how often they buy it, how often they use it, how they evaluate it
after the purchase and impact of such evaluation on future purchases disposal.

Long Beach For My Clinical Rotation
I had the privilege of going to Smith Elementary School in Long beach for my clinical rotation. I didn
t know what to expect before going in, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with friendly smiles.
Nurse Olga was the most friendliest nurse and she showed me how things worked around her facility.
They have computer system program that shows all the teachers can look at to find out their student s
health conditions. The nursing office had pretty much all the basic equipments that she would need to
take care of her patients. My activities included signing in patients as they came in, prioritizing care
based on complaints. Checking patient s temperature was very common and I had to call several
parent to pick up their children due to fever and malaise. I learned how to give vision and hearing test
to children. Couple patients had routine medications like Albuterol and Clonidine. Most of all I had to
treat basic wound care. As I observed Nurse Olga s daily routine, she practices all the components of
the community based care. She taught her patients on self care, preventive care, continuity of care, and
collaborative care. Her role as a teacher was that she told her patients on how to care for their wounds
and how to take their medications. She told them what they can do to prevent from getting hurt in the
playground. Couple students were daily visitors because they had chronic conditions like asthma and
they needed their regular Albuterol inhalers.

The Importance Of The Subway System
In New York City, the subway system has played an integral role in taking New Yorkers across the city
in minutes. With high speed metallic trains barreling through tubes and tunnels, approximately 8
million New Yorkers ride the subway everyday and rely on it to get to where they need; whether it be
work, school, or meeting with others. However in recent events the fare to ride the trains or buses have
skyrocketed from the five cents in 1904 to two dollars and seventy five cents in this day and age.
While this of course correlates to inflation, it proves to be yet another annoyance to New Yorkers who
had already paid two dollars and fifty cents before in 2015. While this improves quality of subway
travel, trains, and employee service and numbers; it is also more money out of the pockets of many
already financially unstable New Yorkers.
The improvement of overall subway quality has improved by tenfold in the recent decades. In 1904,
when the subway companies: IRT, IND, and BMT were integrated into New York City, the trains
slowly decayed into hunks of rusted metal and slow moving contraptions of poor travel. Hardly any
trains ran into multiple boroughs, only select few trains travelled across bridges as each company
operated their own trains within their own borough. In order to completely overhaul the subway
system, the companies slowly began increasing metro fare. In 1965, an agreement was reached to
unify all companies and create the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the

ABSTRACT
Dyes known to the ancients came from plants such as indigo and madder or from the shells of
mollusks; today most dyes are made from coal tar and petrochemicals. The chemical structure of dyes
is relatively easy to modify, so many new colours and types of dyes have been synthesized. Natural
dyes are used as an alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, nearly all dyes are made from compounds obtain from petroleum or coal, this dyes are called
synthetic dyes as opposed to natural dyes obtained from plants, animals, and mineral sources which
were exclusively used in the past.
The Researchers will try to produce natural dye using Sibukaw Wood to promote the usage of natural
dyes and to lessen the production of synthetic dyes, which are very expensive.
Statement of the Problem
Can the extract of the sibukaw wood be an effective textile dye?

Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Essay
Thomas Hobbes creates a clear idea of the social contract theory in which the social contract is a
collective agreement where everyone in the state of nature comes together and sacrifices all their
liberty in return to security. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a
state of peace (by punishing deviants, etc.) So are the power and the ability of the state making people
obey to the laws or is there a wider context to this? I am going to look at the different factors to this
argument including a wide range of critiques about Hobbes theory to see whether or not his theory is
convincing reason for constantly obeying the law. Hobbes wrote the Leviathan during the civil war
where he had experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hobbes is also eager on the fact that law is depended on power. A law without a credible and powerful
authority behind it is just simply not a law in any meaningful sense. By reading Hobbes, it was
undoubtedly seen that his biggest trepidation was ending up living in a state of nature. For this reason
he beliefs that the best way of avoiding state of nature is by not rebelling and obeying to the law. He
described it the state of nature as no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of
violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short . He goes on saying that
anyone s property is the common wealth s property. It belongs to the sovereign state. He says That
every private man has an absolute Propriety in his Goods; such, as excludeth the Right of the
Soveraign. Every man has indeed a Propriety that excludes the Right of every other Subject: And he
has it onely from the Soveraign Power; without the protection whereof, every other man should have
equall Right to the same. But if the Right of the Soveraign also be excluded, he cannot performe the
office they have put him into; which is, to defend them both from forraign enemies, and from the
injuries of one another; and consequently there is no longer a Common wealth. He claims that the
State owns everything in the country and citizens are only legitimate to own as long the State finds it

The Sculpture On South Campus At Moravian College
The sculpture on South Campus at Moravian College commonly known as Moravian Roots One and
Two, who was created by Steve Tobin in 2010 has a significant meaning behind the moderately new
sculpture. There are two of the same types of sculptures in the same place, just distance away from
one another. This sculpture seems to be abstract, since we are taking the form of what it looks like to
create a meaning, which can be something different in other people s eyes. The sculpture is a dark
black shade that naturally blends in with the surroundings, therefore making it blend in with its natural
surroundings. The negative space between the roots are easily seen since its roots are based in various
directions, showing us how far the roots of the sculpture and realistically Moravian has grown. There
is no base or pedestals for these two sculptures who go hand in hand together, but it is roughly around
five feet standing upward and going in sporadic directions, to signify differences. They are roundly
shaped with carved pointed edges giving the image that it is like a tree root or branch, being slightly
pointed on the top. The inner parts of the tree roots are textured off to have a little dots making it a bit
rougher than the soft and smooth outer sides that we see from a distance. There seems to be no said
real front or back side to this piece because the tree roots go in different directions, therefore giving
the observer a chance to decide which way they would like to view it.

The Causes And Consequences Of The Minoans
In daily, weekly or yearly occurrences we can pick out days of balance, days of chaos and then days
where we an adjusting from our mistakes or the the problems that we are facing at the time. In most
chaos we have the ability to get back on our feet, make some new inventions to fix the problems,
places or move away, dominate to get what you want, work together or tolerate the situation. In the
case of the Minoans, once a balance, healthy, strong and inventive culture. Where life was more than
good, one day had their chaos. Their chaos was something that could not be easily stopped when in
came to seeing the problem. There was not a sign of a war, there was not any political issues in sight
and there was not a shortage of food. What they were about to face, no person, god or goddess could
have ever foreseen. The Minoans were going to face a natural disaster so large in nature that it
ultimate set their once beautiful culture so far back that the people of Minoa could not adjust back to
the point of balance. The Minoan soared form around the time of 2600 BCE to 110 BCE and their
culture was unfortunately not that well documented by writings, but they were vastly into arts. The

How Did Nikola Tesla And Thomas Edison Revolutionized The...
Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were two of the inventing world s greatest minds in the 19th century.
Their war over energy unleashed a new era upon the world, and changed the course of the 19th
century. Tesla rivaled Edison with his new, but dangerous alternating current battle, but Edison s
refusal of change made the challenge difficult for Tesla. However, the two started their relationship as
partners. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla both revolutionized the world. In 1884, Nikola Tesla
arrived in the United States from Europe with nothing but his clothes, a letter to Thomas Edison, and a
genius idea. Tesla approached Edison, and the latter hired him. The two worked to improve Edison s
direct current system of electricity. However, the two later split due to the two s clashing personalities;

His hotheadedness forced him to try and dissuade the public of Tesla s idea. Due to that, and his
popularity, Edison was able to commit a multitude of demonstrations to reveal the dangers of Tesla s
alternating current system. One of his more cruel methods was to electrocute animals in public using
alternating current. Nikola Tesla invested and created a hydraulic dam on Niagara Falls using
alternating current. This marked the beginning of the reign of alternating current.
Tesla won the war over energy because Edison s direct current died out and became obsolete.
However, Edison remained a powerhouse, creating a multitude of patents; meanwhile, Tesla started
many projects, but many failed, and he was forced to file for bankruptcy. Also, Nikola Tesla suffered
from a mental breakdown during his career and had to temporarily stop working. When Tesla returned,
he was never the same. His ideas became more and more crazy and impractical. Meanwhile, Edison
remained active, working for the government, but at a slower pace than in his youth. Edison dies in
1931; Tesla passed in

The First College Football Game
On November 6, 1869 what was coined as the first college football game was played between Rutgers
and Princeton. Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that
we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help
you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important
in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball
is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense
starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end.
Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other
team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point
kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be
kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you
would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would
be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is
called a first down every 10 yards. An offense has four plays to gain 10 yards to get a first down or the
ball is turned over on downs, which means the other team will receive

Essay on Ludwig Van Beethoven
When you look at the world and all the people on it as a whole, you see that there are very few
influential people whose actions or opinions strongly influence the course of events. Ludwig Van
Beethoven, a German musician, is one of those very few. He was an extraordinary musician that lived
through hardship and had the horrific fate of deafness, any musician s worst nightmare. Beethoven left
a wall standing in history that captured the art of sounds and worked it beyond imagination into music
so fragile and pure yet onerous, unable to be matched by any succeeding composer. His determination
to push music forward, go beyond the thinkable, and make it his own, has made a huge impact on all
music forever going forward.
Beethoven had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he worked with HAYDN and J. G. Albrechtsberger. Soon Beethoven would begin to make his
mark as a pianist and as a daring and unorthodox composer. (Literary Reference Center)
When Beethoven was 28, in 1798, he began seeing signs of deafness; this progressively got worse. He
struggled against the gradual loss of his hearing. For a musician, there is nothing more tragic. A deaf
musician is like a painter without fingers, a soccer player without feet. Beethoven could not hear the
sound of musical instruments or the pitch of a single note. Although his fate challenged him,
miraculously, his best works were completed after he went deaf. (History Reference Center) Although
it may seem like Beethoven was barely hazed by his deafness, it actually brought him great stress.
Beethoven steadily started drawing away from people and close friends; as the lack of hearing grew he
got really frustrated at times. He got to where he stopped caring about his appearance, left his hair
tangled and uncombed, clothes tattered and rumpled. He became really bitter and unpleasant to be
around; if one of his maids brought him soup he didn t like, he would just smash the bowl on the
ground. Beethoven was alone in the world, and that is why towards the end of his life his music was
even more emotional and expressive.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was a very prolific composer and had a vast

How The Apollonian Contrasts With The Dionysian
Nietzsche has a different outlook on the world. In World of Ideas, by Lee A. Jacobus, it says;
Nietzsche s task was to explain the polarities, their form of expression, and their effect. (pg. 643)
What is the they you ask? Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the Greek
with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but I will
spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects
of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of
human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music, cinematics, and art.
First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians are classical in the
department. Not exactly the classical genre of music, just older music. See, they don t like all these

An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more awe
inspiring if they see the performance all in one take. They want to see the actors make the play a
perfection, waiting to see if a mistake is made and if the actors can recover. A Dionysian,on the other
hand, likes movies more. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they want more. The symbolism,
the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be brought to life. They don t care how,
they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive
art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler
art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at. If you were to give them a single picture that
looked concave and convex at the same time, they wouldn t appreciate that to much. That is more of a
Dionysian outlook. They want the pictures that make your mind think, make you question every

Proposed Solutions for the Problems of the Multi-National...
S. A. Chupa Chups is a Multi National Company that has grown internationally since its inception in
1958. Reasons for successes of this company have been their aggressive approach in developed and
developing nations as well as the partnership they do with existing firms in those nations. The
problems I noticed with their development were their efforts to diversify from core competencies and
their organization structure that was central based and did not highly promote worldwide learning
from experiences.
Problem I:
The first problem I m noticing in this case is the effort being put forward to diversify from their core
competence, making confectionery products. I do understand that it may be economically sound to
diversify into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution suggests that Chupa Chups will divest itself of all of its auxiliary businesses that are not
part of its core competence. They should outsource to another company that is able to do it with less
resources.
The second option is for Chupa Chups to continue to diversify as they re doing, but instead of only
providing the services to their confectionery business, to acquire other customers who will need such
services. This way, they will be able to realize efficiencies from economies of scale.
Possible drawback(s):
The drawback of implementing the first solution is that Chupa Chups will be losing control of pieces
of their operations. Although the solution proposes an advantage from where they currently are, it also
has the drawback of placing all of their eggs in the same basket.
The second option has an opportunity cost risk. They have to chance of not being as profitable as
possible for their stake holders because of the diversification.
Mechanism to overcome drawback(s):
Depending on which option Chupa Chups wants to go with, there are several mechanisms to
overcome the drawback. If they select solution 1, I would suggest that when outsourcing this business,
they setup a governance board that will manage the relationship with the vendor. This board should be
aware of situations going on and things are likely to impact the operations.
If they select to go with solution 2, they should seriously consider

The Age Of Industrialization And Imperialism
Catastrophe stuck in the year 1914 with the assassination of the Austrian archduke Francis Ferdinand.
For the next four years the cataclysm of the First World War followed. Many nations, superior in their
own being, were eager to join the war thinking it would only last for a few months and end by
Christmas. This was a chance for nations to assert their superiority and leadership; however, a harsh
realization was soon to follow. The assassination, meager as it might be compared to the whole war,
triggered the beginning of the war. Many nation states found themselves polarized on the tangled

This nationalist reaction came out of new independence from Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman
Empire and the newly freed Serbia, from the Ottoman Turks, was the proclaimed leader of a united

nephew to archduke Francis Ferdinand, call for retribution and reprisal against Serbia. Francis Joseph
s military chief of staff expressed concerns for Austria and other European allies in a statement saying
Austria Hungary must draw the sword against Serbia...It is not a question of a knightly duel with poor
little Serbia, as she likes to call herself, not of punishment for the assassination. It is much more the
highly practical importance of the prestige of a Great Power...The Monarchy has been seized by the
throat, and has to choose between allowing itself to be strangled and making a last effort to prevent its
destruction. Alliances then served their function. Relying back on the Triple Alliance (Germany,
Austria, and Italy), Germany and Kaiser Wilhelm begin to back Austria and her interest against Serbia.
Serbia s ally, Russia, is backed by the Triple Entente (Russia, France, and Great Britain). What could
have been a small localized war where Serbian and Austrian forces battled for their cause turned into a
global event on August 01, 1914 when Germany declared war on Russia. This served as a catalyst for
further war to be declared forming the Central

On-On-Pitch Players Research Paper
It s a rather cold Sunday morning in Suffern, New York at 10 am so it s the perfect atmosphere to just
watch a soccer game that s being played in some stadium across the Atlantic, in Europe. Before I turn
on the TV to NBC, I sprint to my room to get my predicted eleven on pitch players. Why is it
important? It s a ritual for me because I had just spent a few minutes about a week before calculating
which players had the highest percentage of making it to the on pitch eleven. The common
misconception is that club managers simply pick the the best eleven players to take their best positions
to make the best formation. However, there s many more dimensions to building a winning eleven

Chinese Business Culture
The Chinese culture is very different than the culture in the United States of America and business
meetings require preplanning if they are going to be successful. * How should you handle the
introduction, greeting, and handshaking?
Although in the Chinese culture, a nod and slight bow is a general way of greeting, Chinese business
men are comfortable with a handshake. Address the most Senior Chinese person in the room first, and
introduce yourself as you shake hands. Remember that in the Chinese culture it is a sign of respect if
they shake your hand softly and do not make eye contact. In Chine, the family name comes before the
given name, and calling someone by his name is considered disrespectful unless you are close to the ...

Exchanging gifts is appropriate and well thought of in the Chinese Culture. When you present gifts,
always give them to your guest in the order the guests were introduced to you. Seniority is very
important. Be prepared to present a modest fit at the first meeting. Give the gifts to everyone in
attendance at the meeting. * How will you begin business discussions?
When you begin your first meeting, expect the first conversations to be personal. Take the time to get
to know your Chinese counterpart and allow them time to get to know you. Remember that the
Chinese have a rich culture and they are proud of their historical background. Taking the time to build
a personal relationship can result in a stronger business relationship. (Chinese Business Etiquette,
2014) * What should not be brought up in business discussions?
Negative topics should not be brought up in business meetings. Good topics of personal conversation
include the weather, hobbies and positive experiences you have had in China. (Business Meeting,
2014) * Is there anything else you should prepare for?
Chinese people do not like to be touched. Do not hug, tap, back slap or lock arms with Chinese
business people. Burping and slurping soup are acceptable during meals.

Can Students Have Too Much Tech By Susan Pinker Analysis
In the article Can Students Have Too Much Tech? Susan Pinker explains the pros and cons of
technology in the classroom. Her argument is supplemented by Studies from Duke University and
Stanford University. She also utilized the history of the One Laptop per child nonprofit, along with her
own research and opinions.
Pinker uses the studies from Duke and a Stanford Professor s opinion to support her argument with
evidence that can t be denied. The study from Duke suggests a negative trend in student s Math and
Reading scores that hits especially hard from the 5th to 8th grade. In my experience from the 5th to

Pinker supplements her theory with a similar opinion from a Standford Professor. The Professor

Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of personal
identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin brother is dead
following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her maiden clothes with
the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola did not mime her twin
brother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola makes new acquaintances as
Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her
own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a man, she can hint at her biological
identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how she wants others to view her. When
Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5. 204), Viola responds What I am, and
what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08). Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity
and that she is not what her appearance portrays her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the
other characters do not recognize her chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of
forming one s personal identity. Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in
the play have already shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is
starting to adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from
her appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves
to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian
survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other characters
confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke addresses the
concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons a natural
perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Before seeing the two twins together, the characters in the
play saw Viola and Sebastian as one person, Cesario. They looked alike in appearance and could pass

Rhetorical Analysis Essay With technology growing more and more each day, it is no surprise that the
music industry is transitioning to rely more and more on online sales. However, problems can arise
from this when artists are taken advantage of by people who illegally download their music off of the
internet for free. When one college radio host publically stated that she illegally downloaded her

about it. He wrote a letter addressed to the college radio host, Emily, called Letter to Emily White at
NPR All Songs Considered . With this, he also addresses the general public and calls them to make a
change in their music buying, or lack thereof, habits. He explains that illegally downloading music is
not a harmless task and we must understand the effects that it has on the artists as well as the music

Computerizimg the Regitration Process at Universities
The University Student Registration System: a Case Study in Building a High Availability Distributed
Application Using General Purpose Components
M. C. Little, S. M. Wheater, D. B. Ingham, C. R. Snow, H. Whitfield and S. K. Shrivastava
Department of Computing Science, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, England.
Abstract
Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a
single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and
their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format.
The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to
tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement
implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of
concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most
human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred,
but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen.
Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying
much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the
registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault
tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically
feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing
resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix
workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these
resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques
certainly looked attractive.

Determining Mastery For Instructional Strategies
Determining Mastery for Instructional Strategies Determining mastery can be a complex procedure
even for the most experienced educators. It involves not only a designated percentage on assessments,
but also must take into account the cognitive complexity of the assessment as well as the nature of the
learning goal students are being asked to master. This further requires consideration for the rigor of
expectations set for students performance (Guskey, 2001). An assessment can contain items or tasks
that are so challenging that even students who receive a low cutoff score can be deemed as having
achieved mastery. For example, think about the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Though a
student may only answer half of the test questions for the GRE physics exam correctly, due to the
complexity of the questions, they will have performed better than over 70 percent of those who take
the test. Another factor in determining mastery is professional judgement. Like it or not, scores on
assessments aren t always completely accurate and some level of professional judgement is required to
adjust scores for error, for example, slightly lowering the score out of concern for false rejection or
incorrectly classifying a master as a non master (Guskey Andermann, 2014). This false rejection could
be detrimental for borderline students in that it would affect their confidence and their desire to
continue pursuing mastery as well as causing otherwise talented students not to pass a

Reflection Of Human Development
Human development can be studied by researching both physical and mental development. It can be
studied by focusing on the external human body, along with the processes and intricate systems that
have been developed by our body. It can also focus on the human brain, specifically on the internal
development of human behaviour and interaction. Consequently, I have built my degree plan to
represent both viewpoints in development.
Physiology, the study of life and how cells and tissues in the body work together, works to answer
how cells interact with each other and how this establishes the interactions between human
populations. The following courses also focus on this thought. Biol 361: Physiology of Sensory,
Nervous and Muscular Systems will introduce the various systems in the human body, including
neurons and transmition (nervous system), muscle contraction (skeletal muscle), and sensory
information. This will provide a solid understanding of the various interactions in our body that allow
us to function. I am interested in expanding on my introductory Cell Biology courses, to focus
specifically on humans. Following this, BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and
Locomotion will continue to develop my understanding on animal physiology and this course will
focus more on Cardiovascular, respiratory, and osmoregulatory physiology. As such, this is providing
a complete look into the human body, combined with other courses. Then. BIOL 325: Introduction to
Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will look at one portion of the human body and how humans use
it interact with our environment. Specifically, it focuses on the skeletal system and how humans use it
in mechanisms of motion. Finally, BIOL 454: Comparative Animal Physiology and BIOL 457:
Comparative Environmental Physiology will work together to deepen my understanding of the
physiological adaptations that animals make in various environments. When looking at humans, these
are the perfect courses to pair with the development of the brain, as it provides a full understanding of
human thought and how we use our body to accomplish our thoughts. Through these courses, I hope
to gain a better understanding of how humans function in different situations.

Tense Present Democracy, English, And The Wars Over Usage
Summary of Tense Present Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage Published in April of 2001
by Harper s Magazine, David Foster Wallace s essay is both a review of A Dictionary of Modern
Usage by Bryan A. Garner and an interjection into the present day Usage Wars. Wallace s thesis for his
essay is stated after a list of grammatical errors that are overlooked on a daily basis and a few
paragraphs defining SNOOT. His thesis states, Issues of tradition vs. egalitarianism in U.S. English
are at root political issues and can be effectively addressed only in what this article hereby terms a
Democratic Spirit. A Democratic Spirit is an attitude a person can have only by being fervent in
his/her beliefs while also recognizing and respecting the beliefs of another. After sorting out what
constitutes a Democratic Spirit and how to maintain such an attitude the author questions who has the
authority to write a dictionary and, thus, determine which words go into the book and which words are
left on the wayside. Wallace praises Garner for his full discloser statement, which acknowledges
Garner s principles and gives background information to his text. Next, in his essay, Wallace notes
Garner s use of Ethical Appeal. The use of ethos, Wallace says, is refreshing because it is hardly ever
used in dictionary. Most dictionaries are political battle ground in a war that is fought between the
Prescriptivists (linguistic conservatives) and the Descriptivists (linguistic

She also dresses in man s clothes, this also seems strange because it makes you wonder what she is
doing and why she isn t wearing her own clothes. Also the story tells us, The old woman returned
home in the evening. That night she slept soundly. This too creates tension because you wonder how
she can sleep when she has just killed someone and you therefore feel uncomfortable. The colours
used by Guy de Maupassant in A Vendetta create tension too because colours such as black and brown
are used. These colours are dark and traditionally associated with death and evil. This creates tension
because it makes the reader feel uneasy and wonder what plan the woman will concoct and if it will be
evil. During A Vendetta information is revealed gradually. For instance you don t fully understand the
woman s plan until the end. This crates tension because it keeps the reader in suspense and wondering
what will happen. They are also not entirely sure what she is doing throughout the story. In A Vendetta
Guy de Maupassant uses words associated with loneliness such as alone and widow . This creates
tension because it makes the woman seem like a victim and vulnerable, therefore creating an
uncomfortable and uneasy atmosphere. Now I have discussed Guy de Maupassant s techniques for
creating tension I will

  • 2. The Importance Of Segregation In Public School In 1948, a black American, George McLaurin, was accepted to the University of Oklahoma but treated with much disrespect. He sat in a desk roped off from the others in class, he ate lunch by himself, and he studied in a separate library. This is just one of the many things that occurred during the time of separate but equal . Due to the poor conditions in black schools under separate but equal , the main argument of the NAACP attorneys cases was to end segregation in schools, leading to the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision to integrate black and white public schools. The school conditions for blacks under the separate but equal doctrine were awful. Governors and lawmakers didn t want to push school changes because the majority of voters were white (19), North Carolina passed a law making it so that if a school system refused to integrate, parents had to file an individual lawsuit (20), the governor of Arkansas ordered the National Guard to prevent nine students from entering Little Rock Central High School (23) and, James Meredith had the right to attend University of Mississippi but even after the integration, the school remained all white and they wouldn t let James in (25). • 3. Advantages Of Aquaculture Aquaculture in the Pacific Abstract: Aquaculture is currently of little significance when compared to fishing in the Pacific. There is an exception, black pearl farming in eastern Polynesia. Aquaculture needs considerable development in most places before it can be deemed economical and sustainable. Some farming that takes place are shrimp, tilapia and seaweed (future commercial export prospect). But, all these are still in the experimental stage. The only way aquaculture can expand is when the Pacific will be provided with better production methods for current species, new techniques and more new species. These new methods that can help expansion should be simple yet flexible for easy adapted to the environment and market constraints. They should have low operating costs and approach integrated fisheries bodies with favorably low investment cost. It also needs associations with commercial scale operations to demonstrate economic viability. Pacific Islands have many factors that favor aquaculture and stock enhancement development in the coastal areas. These factors are; abundant diversity of coral reef species (high demand), the location is close to Asia seafood markets, habitats are pristine therefore there is availability of ... • 4. Reflection Of A Colloquium Since I am a freshman, and this was my first colloquium, I did not know what to expect. I select Greek life, bullying in adulthood, and the Great Blasket Islands. Bullying in adulthood got cancelled and I went to human trafficking and domestic violence instead. I was very interested in learning new information about these interesting topics. I was especially excited about hearing Mrs. Gertz talk about her trip to the Great Blasket Islands. I have her for English and she got me hooked the first time she mentioned she would be doing her chat over her trip. The first chat I went to was over Greek life and the whole era in general. The most interesting story that the professor told was about Oedipus. Laius and Jocasta are the king and queen on Thebes. The king goes to a fortune teller because they are having trouble conceiving a child. He is told, they will have a child, but his son will kill him and marry and have children with the queen. They send the child to someone far away, so the prophesy cannot be filled. The young boy ends up becoming a king somewhere else then goes out and meets his father and they fight and he kills his father. He had no idea who the man was. He ventures out and kills a sphynx and then becomes king because of that. He never thought the place he now ended up at was supposed to be his true home. He marries the current queen and the prophesy is filled. The story shows there are some things you cannot escape but you make your own legacy at the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Long Beach For My Clinical Rotation I had the privilege of going to Smith Elementary School in Long beach for my clinical rotation. I didn t know what to expect before going in, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with friendly smiles. Nurse Olga was the most friendliest nurse and she showed me how things worked around her facility. They have computer system program that shows all the teachers can look at to find out their student s health conditions. The nursing office had pretty much all the basic equipments that she would need to take care of her patients. My activities included signing in patients as they came in, prioritizing care based on complaints. Checking patient s temperature was very common and I had to call several parent to pick up their children due to fever and malaise. I learned how to give vision and hearing test to children. Couple patients had routine medications like Albuterol and Clonidine. Most of all I had to treat basic wound care. As I observed Nurse Olga s daily routine, she practices all the components of the community based care. She taught her patients on self care, preventive care, continuity of care, and collaborative care. Her role as a teacher was that she told her patients on how to care for their wounds and how to take their medications. She told them what they can do to prevent from getting hurt in the playground. Couple students were daily visitors because they had chronic conditions like asthma and they needed their regular Albuterol inhalers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Importance Of The Subway System In New York City, the subway system has played an integral role in taking New Yorkers across the city in minutes. With high speed metallic trains barreling through tubes and tunnels, approximately 8 million New Yorkers ride the subway everyday and rely on it to get to where they need; whether it be work, school, or meeting with others. However in recent events the fare to ride the trains or buses have skyrocketed from the five cents in 1904 to two dollars and seventy five cents in this day and age. While this of course correlates to inflation, it proves to be yet another annoyance to New Yorkers who had already paid two dollars and fifty cents before in 2015. While this improves quality of subway travel, trains, and employee service and numbers; it is also more money out of the pockets of many already financially unstable New Yorkers. The improvement of overall subway quality has improved by tenfold in the recent decades. In 1904, when the subway companies: IRT, IND, and BMT were integrated into New York City, the trains slowly decayed into hunks of rusted metal and slow moving contraptions of poor travel. Hardly any trains ran into multiple boroughs, only select few trains travelled across bridges as each company operated their own trains within their own borough. In order to completely overhaul the subway system, the companies slowly began increasing metro fare. In 1965, an agreement was reached to unify all companies and create the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Essay Thomas Hobbes creates a clear idea of the social contract theory in which the social contract is a collective agreement where everyone in the state of nature comes together and sacrifices all their liberty in return to security. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a state of peace (by punishing deviants, etc.) So are the power and the ability of the state making people obey to the laws or is there a wider context to this? I am going to look at the different factors to this argument including a wide range of critiques about Hobbes theory to see whether or not his theory is convincing reason for constantly obeying the law. A law without a credible and powerful authority behind it is just simply not a law in any meaningful sense. By reading Hobbes, it was undoubtedly seen that his biggest trepidation was ending up living in a state of nature. For this reason he beliefs that the best way of avoiding state of nature is by not rebelling and obeying to the law. He described it the state of nature as no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short . He goes on saying that anyone s property is the common wealth s property. It belongs to the sovereign state. He says That every private man has an absolute Propriety in his Goods; such, as excludeth the Right of the Soveraign. Every man has indeed a Propriety that excludes the Right of every other Subject: And he has it onely from the Soveraign Power; without the protection whereof, every other man should have equall Right to the same. But if the Right of the Soveraign also be excluded, he cannot performe the office they have put him into; which is, to defend them both from forraign enemies, and from the injuries of one another; and consequently there is no longer a Common wealth. The Sculpture On South Campus At Moravian College The sculpture on South Campus at Moravian College commonly known as Moravian Roots One and Two, who was created by Steve Tobin in 2010 has a significant meaning behind the moderately new sculpture. There are two of the same types of sculptures in the same place, just distance away from one another. This sculpture seems to be abstract, since we are taking the form of what it looks like to create a meaning, which can be something different in other people s eyes. The sculpture is a dark black shade that naturally blends in with the surroundings, therefore making it blend in with its natural surroundings. The negative space between the roots are easily seen since its roots are based in various directions, showing us how far the roots of the sculpture and realistically Moravian has grown. There is no base or pedestals for these two sculptures who go hand in hand together, but it is roughly around five feet standing upward and going in sporadic directions, to signify differences. They are roundly shaped with carved pointed edges giving the image that it is like a tree root or branch, being slightly pointed on the top. The inner parts of the tree roots are textured off to have a little dots making it a bit rougher than the soft and smooth outer sides that we see from a distance. There seems to be no said real front or back side to this piece because the tree roots go in different directions, therefore giving the observer a chance to decide which way they would like to view it. ... • 16. The First College Football Game On November 6, 1869 what was coined as the first college football game was played between Rutgers and Princeton. Later in the 1880s, Walter Camp, a rugby player from Yale, helped shape the rules that we now have in American Football. From then the game has evolved immensely and I want to help you understand it. The basic rules are the most important part of every game, but are extra important in football. Every drive for the offense will start with the opposing team kicking the ball off. If the ball is kicked out of the back of the end zone, that will result in a touchback, which means the offense starts on their own 20 yard line. A football field is 100 yards long with two end zones on each end. Each half you have what is considered your end zone which your defense will try to keep the other team s offense from scoring touchdowns or field goals in. A touchdown is 6 points plus an extra point kick that is one point or a two point conversion that are rarer and harder to convert. A field goal can be kicked at any point on offense is 3 points. So if you are on your own side of the 50 yard line, you would say you are on your own 20, 25, 30, ect. If you have the ball on you own 20 yard line it would be pretty difficult to make it 80 yards in the 4 plays you are given. That s why you can earn what is called a first down every 10 yards. An offense has four plays to gain 10 yards to get a first down or the ball is turned over on downs, which means the other team will receive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Ludwig Van Beethoven When you look at the world and all the people on it as a whole, you see that there are very few influential people whose actions or opinions strongly influence the course of events. Ludwig Van Beethoven, a German musician, is one of those very few. He was an extraordinary musician that lived through hardship and had the horrific fate of deafness, any musician s worst nightmare. Beethoven left a wall standing in history that captured the art of sounds and worked it beyond imagination into music so fragile and pure yet onerous, unable to be matched by any succeeding composer. (Literary Reference Center) When Beethoven was 28, in 1798, he began seeing signs of deafness; this progressively got worse. He struggled against the gradual loss of his hearing. For a musician, there is nothing more tragic. A deaf musician is like a painter without fingers, a soccer player without feet. Beethoven could not hear the sound of musical instruments or the pitch of a single note. Although his fate challenged him, miraculously, his best works were completed after he went deaf. (History Reference Center) Although it may seem like Beethoven was barely hazed by his deafness, it actually brought him great stress. Beethoven steadily started drawing away from people and close friends; as the lack of hearing grew he got really frustrated at times. He got to where he stopped caring about his appearance, left his hair tangled and uncombed, clothes tattered and rumpled. He became really bitter and unpleasant to be around; if one of his maids brought him soup he didn t like, he would just smash the bowl on the ground. Beethoven was alone in the world, and that is why towards the end of his life his music was even more emotional and expressive. Ludwig Van Beethoven was a very prolific composer and had a vast ... An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of human nature. This way, they will be able to realize efficiencies from economies of scale. Possible drawback(s): The drawback of implementing the first solution is that Chupa Chups will be losing control of pieces of their operations. Identity And Identity In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Twelfth Night and Identity In the play Twelfth Night, Shakespeare delves into the concept of personal identity through his exploration of the character Viola. After discovering that her twin brother is dead following a shipwreck, Viola decides to reshape her identity in Illyria. Hiding her maiden clothes with the sea captain, Viola takes on the name Cesario. It is important to note, Viola did not mime her twin brother Sebastian, but instead formed her own male identity. As Viola makes new acquaintances as Cesario, she alludes to the trickery in her appearance, I am not that I play (1.5. 175). Viola controls her own identity and since she knows that biologically she is not a man, she can hint at her biological identity accordingly. She shapes her identity by deciding how she wants others to view her. When Olivia, the countess in the play, asks Viola What are you? (I.5. 204), Viola responds What I am, and what I would, are as secret as maidenhead (I.5. 207 08). Again, Viola admits to her fraudulent identity and that she is not what her appearance portrays her to be. Regardless of what Viola says, however, the other characters do not recognize her chicanery. Other s perspectives also influence the concept of forming one s personal identity. Viola may refer that she is not who she is, but the other characters in the play have already shaped their perspectives of her. For example, to Olivia, Viola is the man she is starting to adore. Olivia does not detect Viola s tricks because Viola is clothed as a man and so, from her appearance, she must be one. The shaping of identity by appearance and perspective only proves to be misleading when Viola s brother Sebastian enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Viola, Sebastian survived the shipwreck and is now in Illyria. As Sebastian adjusts to this new land, other characters confuse him as Viola. It is not until the two twin are on stage together that the Duke addresses the concept of identity and perspective, One face, one voice, one habit, and two persons a natural perspective that is and is not (V.1. 211). Before seeing the two twins together, the characters in the play saw Viola and Sebastian as one person, Cesario. They looked alike in appearance and could pass ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. David Lowery Rhetorical Analysis Rhetorical Analysis Essay With technology growing more and more each day, it is no surprise that the music industry is transitioning to rely more and more on online sales. However, problems can arise from this when artists are taken advantage of by people who illegally download their music off of the internet for free. When one college radio host publically stated that she illegally downloaded her music, a professor by the name of David Lowery saw a problem with this and decided to speak up about it. He wrote a letter addressed to the college radio host, Emily, called Letter to Emily White at NPR All Songs Considered . With this, he also addresses the general public and calls them to make a change in their music buying, or lack thereof, habits. He explains that illegally downloading music is not a harmless task and we must understand the effects that it has on the artists as well as the music industry as a whole. He tells a story about two of his friends who struggled in the music industry which resulted in them ending their lives. Through this narrative, Lowery displays the heartbreaking effect that something like this can have on an artist. Transcending past the effect this had on the artist, he also emphasizes the impact this situation this had on him personally, writing about how he witnessed his close friend be put into the ambulance after taking his life. Computerizimg the Regitration Process at Universities The University Student Registration System: a Case Study in Building a High Availability Distributed Application Using General Purpose Components M. C. Little, S. M. Wheater, D. B. Ingham, C. R. Snow, H. Whitfield and S. K. Shrivastava Department of Computing Science, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, England. Abstract Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format. The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred, but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen. Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques certainly looked attractive. ... • 36. Determining Mastery For Instructional Strategies Determining Mastery for Instructional Strategies Determining mastery can be a complex procedure even for the most experienced educators. It involves not only a designated percentage on assessments, but also must take into account the cognitive complexity of the assessment as well as the nature of the learning goal students are being asked to master. This further requires consideration for the rigor of expectations set for students performance (Guskey, 2001). An assessment can contain items or tasks that are so challenging that even students who receive a low cutoff score can be deemed as having achieved mastery. For example, think about the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Though a student may only answer half of the test questions for the GRE physics exam correctly, due to the complexity of the questions, they will have performed better than over 70 percent of those who take the test. Another factor in determining mastery is professional judgement. Like it or not, scores on assessments aren t always completely accurate and some level of professional judgement is required to adjust scores for error, for example, slightly lowering the score out of concern for false rejection or incorrectly classifying a master as a non master (Guskey Andermann, 2014). This false rejection could be detrimental for borderline students in that it would affect their confidence and their desire to continue pursuing mastery as well as causing otherwise talented students not to pass a ... • 37. Reflection Of Human Development Human development can be studied by researching both physical and mental development. It can be studied by focusing on the external human body, along with the processes and intricate systems that have been developed by our body. It can also focus on the human brain, specifically on the internal development of human behaviour and interaction. Consequently, I have built my degree plan to represent both viewpoints in development. Physiology, the study of life and how cells and tissues in the body work together, works to answer how cells interact with each other and how this establishes the interactions between human populations. The following courses also focus on this thought. Biol 361: Physiology of Sensory, Nervous and Muscular Systems will introduce the various systems in the human body, including neurons and transmition (nervous system), muscle contraction (skeletal muscle), and sensory information. This will provide a solid understanding of the various interactions in our body that allow us to function. I am interested in expanding on my introductory Cell Biology courses, to focus specifically on humans. Following this, BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will continue to develop my understanding on animal physiology and this course will focus more on Cardiovascular, respiratory, and osmoregulatory physiology. As such, this is providing a complete look into the human body, combined with other courses. Then. BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will look at one portion of the human body and how humans use it interact with our environment. Specifically, it focuses on the skeletal system and how humans use it in mechanisms of motion. Finally, BIOL 454: Comparative Animal Physiology and BIOL 457: Comparative Environmental Physiology will work together to deepen my understanding of the physiological adaptations that animals make in various environments. When looking at humans, these are the perfect courses to pair with the development of the brain, as it provides a full understanding of human thought and how we use our body to accomplish our thoughts. Through these courses, I hope to gain a better understanding of how humans function in different situations. At the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tense Present Democracy, English, And The Wars Over Usage Summary of Tense Present Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage Published in April of 2001 by Harper s Magazine, David Foster Wallace s essay is both a review of A Dictionary of Modern Usage by Bryan A. Garner and an interjection into the present day Usage Wars. Wallace s thesis for his essay is stated after a list of grammatical errors that are overlooked on a daily basis and a few paragraphs defining SNOOT. His thesis states, Issues of tradition vs. egalitarianism in U.S. English are at root political issues and can be effectively addressed only in what this article hereby terms a Democratic Spirit. A Democratic Spirit is an attitude a person can have only by being fervent in his/her beliefs while also recognizing and respecting the beliefs of another. After sorting out what constitutes a Democratic Spirit and how to maintain such an attitude the author questions who has the authority to write a dictionary and, thus, determine which words go into the book and which words are left on the wayside. Wallace praises Garner for his full discloser statement, which acknowledges Garner s principles and gives background information to his text. Next, in his essay, Wallace notes Garner s use of Ethical Appeal. The use of ethos, Wallace says, is refreshing because it is hardly ever used in dictionary. Most dictionaries are political battle ground in a war that is fought between the Prescriptivists (linguistic conservatives) and the Descriptivists (linguistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wells I am aiming to look at the differences and similarities of two writer s methods of creating tension in their stories. The two stories I am looking at are A Vendetta by Guy de Maupassant and The Red Room by H. G. Wells. After I have discussed these two stories I will draw a conclusion to show what I have found. A Vendetta is about a woman s struggle to avenge the death of her son. The writer of this story uses lots of sounds in his efforts to create tension, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also dresses in man s clothes, this also seems strange because it makes you wonder what she is doing and why she isn t wearing her own clothes. Also the story tells us, The old woman returned home in the evening. That night she slept soundly. This too creates tension because you wonder how she can sleep when she has just killed someone and you therefore feel uncomfortable. The colours used by Guy de Maupassant in A Vendetta create tension too because colours such as black and brown are used. These colours are dark and traditionally associated with death and evil. This creates tension because it makes the reader feel uneasy and wonder what plan the woman will concoct and if it will be evil. During A Vendetta information is revealed gradually. For instance you don t fully understand the woman s plan until the end. This crates tension because it keeps the reader in suspense and wondering what will happen. They are also not entirely sure what she is doing throughout the story. In A Vendetta Guy de Maupassant uses words associated with loneliness such as alone and widow . This creates tension because it makes the woman seem like a victim and vulnerable, therefore creating an uncomfortable and uneasy atmosphere. Now I have discussed Guy de Maupassant s techniques for creating tension I will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rainer, like no other artist, embodies the rebellious spirit of post war art. However, Rainer made an international name for himself with his later activity, especially the iconoclastic series Overpaintings (1953 65), where he produced own pieces by painting over other artists. Throughout the decades, Rainer immersed himself in the subject of mental disorders and psychedelia, which led to his performances under the drug use, and involvement in the Viennese Actionism.
