Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk...
Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of
conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the
nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This
opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as
science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903,
William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of
economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then,
Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding
economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution.
Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to
take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was
Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . This book helped explain the American
Revolution as a means of theory failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians
exaggerate on certain events or people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration
of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. He sees the American Revolution results were a positive
advance

A Case Study on Cost Estimation and
Profitability Analysis at Continental Airlines
Francisco J. Román
ABSTRACT: This case exposes students to the application of regression analyses to be used as a tool
pursuant to understanding cost behavior and forecasting future costs using publicly available data
from Continental Airlines. Specifically, the case focuses on the harsh financial situation faced by
Continental as a result of the recent financial crisis and the challenges it faces to remain profitable. It
then highlights the importance of reducing and controlling costs as a viable strategy to restore ... Show

Continental s internal forecasts indicated that a further decline in passenger volume should be
anticipated throughout 2009, with a recovery in travel possibly occurring by the middle of 2010.
To summarize, adverse economic conditions in the U.S., coupled with the rise in fuel costs, were
dragging down Continental s profits and relief was unlikely through the foreseeable future.
THE DECISION TO REDUCE FLYING CAPACITY AND THE IMPACT ON
OPERATING COSTS
Given the situation described above, management needed to act swiftly to restore profitability.
Several strategic options were evaluated. Since the U.S. and much of the world was facing a severe
recession, the prospect for growing revenues by either raising airfares or passenger volume seemed
futile. Contrary to raising revenue, Continental s managers believed that raising fares could potentially
erode future revenues beyond the present level. Discounting fares did not seem a plausible solution
either, because given the severity of the economic situation a fare cut could fall short in stimulating
additional passenger demand and lead to lowering revenues.
Thus, because management anticipated that revenues would remain flat for most of the year, the only
viable short term solution to restoring profits was a substantial and swift reduction in operating costs.
This could most effectively be accomplished in two ways. First, through a reduction in flying

Barbie And The Barbie Doll
I. Introduction
A. 43rd place in the book of 101 Most influential People Who Never Lied, ahead of Luke Skywalker
in 85th place and behind Mickey Mouse at 18th place lays, Barbie. You might be wondering who this
Barbie person is. I am not talking about a real person. I am talking about Barbie, the doll.
B. Girls all around the world grew up playing with a Barbie doll. When first released she was a
plastic, white skinned, thin, long legged teenage girl. She wore a tiny black and white stripped bathing
suit with a pair of sunglasses sitting upon her head on top of her blonde colored hair.
C. The whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the Barbie doll little girl could be anything she
wanted to be. But, now in today s society little girls look at Barbie and think, I need to be tall, skinny,
and blonde like her.
D. Ruth Handler, creator of the Barbie doll preached, Barbie always represented the fact that a woman
has choices.
E. Today I am going to share with you the evolution of the Barbie doll, and the incredible changes
they are doing to make every little girl feel like they have something to be inspired by.
F. First, I am going to brief you on the history of Barbie. Second, I am going to inform you on the
controversy that has been brought up in the past few years about the doll. Lastly, I am going to explain
the new generation of Barbie dolls that are in the making to soon be released.

Ecological Study Of The Honey Bees And The Flowers
Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships between organisms, the interactions between
organisms and their environment, and the processes involved in the distribution of organisms. Flowers
pollinated by honey bees in the middle of a field can be studied ecologically. For instance: the species
of honey bee inhabiting this field of flowers can be analyzed, the amount of honey bees of this
particular species found on this field can be calculated, and the factors affecting the honey bee
population can be investigated. This form of ecological study is called population ecology as it studies
a single species population in a given area. Studying the interaction between the honey bees and the
flowers, instead, goes to a different category of ecology called community ecology. Community
ecology studies the relationships and interactions between different populations in a given location.
Studying a broader scope like the structure and functions of all the biotic and abiotic factors of the
field, including the honey bees and the flowers, dives into a different category of ecology which is
called ecosystem ecology. This category looks into all the interactions going on in the system and
where the energy is flowing, which is a cycle that always starts from the producers of the system to
the consumers of the system.
Population ecology studies the factors that affect the population size of one species in a certain
geographical area. Four factors affect population

Therapeutic Assessment Essay
Assessments
The assessments performed on this patient were vital signs, blood glucose levels and regular blood
tests. The vital signs were temperature 36.5 degrees, 80 beats per minute, 20 respiratory rates, blood
pressure was 140/70 and oxygen saturation was 99%. This objective data is all within normal range
(Bellchambers 2015, p. 588). It is important to monitor the patients blood pressure as he has
hypertension. This gives the healthcare professionals a baseline of his blood pressure so they can
determine a difference in the patient s health.
A capillary blood sample is used to test the blood glucose level (Kucia 2015, p. 875). The normal level
is 3.9 6.1mmol/L (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). This is measuring the glucose levels in millimoles per litre
of blood (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). As type two diabetes can cause hyperglycaemia, it is important to
monitor blood glucose levels (Porth 2015, p. 806). The patient is also taking insulin and medications
for his diabetes so it is safe practice to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

functioning (Muir Cochrane, Barkway Nizette 2014, p. 32). The patient appeared well groomed with
an upright and open posture. Non melanoma skin cancers were evident on his face. Patient engaged
and initiated conversation with normal content and tone. Patient has good eye contact, denied thoughts
of self harm or any auditory or visual hallucinations. Patient was alert and orientated. The reason a
mental state examination was conducted on the patient is because he has a history of depression. The
examination gave a good indication on how the patient s mental health is and if any interventions were
needed. Even though they were not necessary in this case, some interventions within the prison

Complications Of The U.s. Constitution
Complications of the U.S. Constitution The delegates of 1787, gathered at a convention in
Philadelphia to try and revise the existing government, but almost immediately threw out the Articles
of Confederation when an entirely new document emerged. It became the known system called
federalism, in which a strong national government with a clear separation of powers between
executive, legislative, and judicial branches functioned alongside state governments with clearly
designated responsibilities. Along with arguments about how best to ensure the rights of individual
states were to be protected and how the people would be represented in congress were also resolved
by establishing a senate with equal representation for each state, and a House of Representatives for
the number of delegates was determined by population counts (Shi 2015 pg. 218). However, many of
the delegates during the period of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution had widely different ideas
about how each of the independent countries should be organized and run, including George Mason
and Ben Franklin. To start with, George Mason, who was a delegate at the Constitutional Convention
increasingly became uneasy with the document, because he feared and questioned, Whether a
consolidated government can preserve the freedom and secure the rights of the people. It is
ascertained, by history, that there never was government over a very extensive country without
destroying the liberties of the people. To a

Polio Epidemic In Ann Fay s Blue
When I was in fourth grade we had to read this book that was based in North Carolina, during World
War two and when kids at a young age were getting polio and dying. The book named Blue, sparked
the interest of being in the medical field. Also, knowing that I could do something great like starting
an emergency hospital in just three days so they could put all of the sick and helpless children in one
place. Blue is the reason why I am going to go into the medical field instead of choosing a different
path.
Blue is set during 1944 right at the end of World War two and right at the started of the polio epidemic
that was sweeping across the western Piedmont of North Carolina. The main character, Ann Fay lived

that person is driving away drinking or after drinking they are not only putting themselves at risk but

For the fees, it is something the felon has to pay for due to the fines. The fees can cost over hundreds
of dollars or more due to how many times the offender has received a DUI in the past month or years.
However if, the individual has more than one DUI arrests they can have their license revoke, jail or
prison, probation or alcohol treatment.
That s the last consequence of drinking and driving.
In conclusion, although drinking and driving might not affect some individuals, but for others it will
cause a lot of consequences. For legal penalties such as DUI, license suspicion and serious jail time
are a really big deal to go on your permanent record. The serve car accidents, would put so many
innocent lives at risk and even your own life at risk and not only will affect the victim , but also the
friends and family. The last consequence, are fine and fees the offender will have to pay both due to
the DUI arrest and later on determining whether if the offender has to deal with other legal penalties.
Drinking and driving might not seem like a serious issue for some people, but it is a harmful situation
to risk their lives and people s

Wearable Wearability Research Paper
Although physiological signals, such as an increase in temperature and blood pressure, are not
traditionally considered an input channel within computer science, computers are gradually moving
beyond the desktop and reaching closer contact with our bodies. An affective wearable a wearable
computer equipped with physiological sensors and pattern recognition is designed to perceive and
respond to the wearer s affective state. Affective states are determined by certain patterns; one pattern
would be a change in nervous system activity, such as an increase in heart rate. While most wearables
today are designed as bands around our wrists, these miniature flexible electrodes can be attached to
jewelry or sewn into our clothes. Indeed, people are already in physical contact with many things that
could be augmented with sensors (Picard).

Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety
Video Game Reduces Social Anxiety Whether it is in a real world or cyber space, meeting people
seems to be an almost inevitable part of modern daily life. Meeting or interacting with new people can
be stressful. When people encounter a stranger, they try to avoid or reduce it by getting as much
information as possible in the course of the conversation or interaction. There is an average of two
gamers in each game playing U.S household as shown in the research of ESA Entertainment Software
Association (2013). According to ESA s Effective Facts, over 50% of Americans are playing video
games that means at least one of the average U.S. household owns dedicated game console such as

The Inclusive Practice During Childhood Education Context...
This essay will focus on the inclusive practice in relation to the early childhood education context and
particularly to the special educational needs of the gifted children. This will also cover the
policies/legislation, current research, national and international perspectives of inclusive practice in
early childhood education. The complexities and practicalities of inclusion in terms of learning
opportunities and experiences, environmental considerations and peer relationships would be critically
examined. The role of the teacher and the teaching strategies, practices and theoretical prospective and
the positive involvement of parents/families would also be evaluated to support the children with
giftedness abilities and extra talented skills. In general, inclusive practice is also known as special
education. According to Ministry of Education [MoE], (2000), Special education means the provision
of extra assistance, adapted programs or learning environments, specialized equipments or materials to
support young children and school students with accessing the curriculum in a range of settings.
Whereas, Education Review Office (2012) also defines inclusion as the identification that all children
and their families have equal rights to access high quality early childhood education without any
barriers, full participation and learning for all children. Moreover, the four principles of Te Whariki

A Quick History Of Abortion Pills
A quick history of abortion pills and how they came to be comes from WebMD. The top drug used for
abortions is mifepristone also known as RU 486. Testing of the drug began in 1983 when the FDA
issued a permit. Jan. 1993 President Clinton asked for the FDA to reconsider their import ban. In 1994
1995 the Population Council the U.S. patent rights for mifepristone, and clinical trials began. In
September 1996 the FDA issued an approval for RU 486 to be used as a safe alternative to surgical
abortion, but they also said, they wanted more information on how the drug was manufactured and
labeled before they could make their final decision. On September 28, 2000 the FDA approved RU
486 as a method for early medical abortion.
Mifepristone can be used till the eighth week of pregnancy. The woman is required to go to at least
three doctor office appointments during the treatment. The drug is taken by mouth usually once unless
directed differently by the woman s doctor. The woman has to take misoprostol within forty eight
hours of taking the mifepristone (RU 486).
Some side effects of these drugs are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and/or dizziness. If the side
effects continue after the first 24 hours, medical attention is required because there can be serious
medical problems. Bleeding and severe cramps are expected during the process. Bleeding and spotting
may last for more than the next 30 days. Sometimes, the bleeding has needed to be stopped by surgery.

The Problem Of Water Conservation
Water is very important in everyone s daily lives. They need it to shower, brush their teeth, cook,
taking care of the landscapes, and most importantly to live. Water is everywhere but as some people
say it will soon become scarce due to the fact people are being very wasteful with it. Water
conservation is a big topic in the United States when it comes to California, a state known for their
droughts. It seems like every years there is always something on the news headlines talking about a
drought in California. Conserving water would obviously become an even bigger deal if we lived in
California instead of the Midwest. Obviously the topic of water conservation is still a big topic in the
Midwest because as a nation, people are wasteful and taking having water for granted in our everyday
lives. Although scientists and astronomers are learning how they can get water from comets and
asteroids if planet Earth were to run out of water one day it is still in the experimental phase and is not
a for sure thing on Earth. For the time being, instead of wasting the water, in people s everyday life s
they can help reduce the risk of water going completely extinct by understanding how the water is
going to waste, solutions to saving water, and being smart when dealing with landscaping.
People say that the Earth is running short on water but never seem to point out that there are some
backup plans that are being put into action and tested out currently by scientist. When people think

TRACK SOFTWARE, INC I SYNOPSIS Track Software, Inc. is a company created and built by Mr.
Stanley Booker, CPA who spent nights and weekends in developing a sophisticated cost accounting
software program that became the company s initial product. As the firm grows, Stanley planned to
develop and expand the software product, which will streamline the accounting processes of medium
to large sized manufacturers. In the first 2 years of operation, some financial problems occur, so he
sold 60% of the stock to a group of investors to obtain needed funds. Although he is quite pleased to

Disadvantages It could certainly lower the firm s earnings over the next couple of years. No guaranty
that the project will succeed. MR. STANLEY BOOKER WILL FINISH THE PROJECT Advantages
No additional expense will be incurred in terms of hiring another software developer. Mr. Stanley can
devote more of his time in managing the firm. Disadvantages Mr. Stanley devotion in doing
administrative duties will be divided or may be his second priority only since he will more focused to
finish the project VII STATEMENT OF CONCLUSION I conclude that, Mr. Stanley will make every
effort or strategy to acquire cash in order for him to hire a new software developer. Since the major
goal is profit maximization, the ability to add a new product would increase sales and lead to greater
profits for Track software. If this will succeed, the firm s sales and earnings would significantly rise
and the firm may have the ability to pay all its financial problems an can sustain the company s
operation. VII STATEMENT OF RECOMMENDATION Mr. Stanley should hire a very qualified and
competent software developer that will really fit the position and must consider the applicants ability
to perform the job in a short span of time. The following should be followed to attain the goal: Step 1
Recruitment and Selection of a new software developer. Step 2 Introduce the project to the newly
hired software developer. Step 3

Carburetor Research Paper
Start by taking all the parts off of the carburetor, until all that remains is the body of the carburetor and
more than likely the seat for the needle (6212), as well as the spray nozzle (6214B). Usually the seat
and spray nozzle are frozen in place and the flats are damaged from trying to be removed by an ill
fitted flat head screwdriver. If it won t come easily, apply heat to the stalk with a propane torch. When
heated, drop a few drops of water into the hole onto the brass jet. Brass has a higher expansion and
shrink rate than iron and when those items cool they pull themselves away from the wall and are
loose. Now you should be able to remove the spray nozzle and seat easily, by using flathead screw
drivers that have been ground to fit each part.
Be sure to remove the round gaskets under the needle seat and main jet. They get like iron and it might

the brass. Often the drill will also spin the remaining brass plug out.
Here is a little trick on cleaning passages. You can make a set of carburetor passage cleaning wires in

Essay On Stray Dogs In Bangkok

Abstract
Thai Buddhist temple is the most well known spot to surrender stray dogs, since they have a ton of

Managing Negative Emotions After An Employee Layoff
Dismissal Meeting: Managing Negative Emotions after an Employee Layoff For manager across the
world laying off employees is the best way to lower cost when the economy or business declines.
Laying off employee is a difficult decision and many times within companies or organization they will
try other methods of cutting cost before deciding to lay off employee(s). It is very important for
employers to be prepared when initiating a layoff. The factors that lead up to the decision of laying off
the particular employee(s) must be addressed and explained thoroughly. Manager can be more
efficient with tackling the purpose of the layoff if their explanation is supported with all the concrete
facts along with performance reviews and documented coaching opportunities with the employee(s) in
question. For example, if an organization has to layoff an employee(s) due performance issues, then
the performance issues in the past should be documented. These documents will support and provide
solid justifications as to why the decision is the best action for the business. However, sometimes
employee(s) that are being laid off really could care less of what the best resolution to lower cost for
the company is, because they are now unemployed. To some employee(s) being laid off might come as
a surprise and unexpected. Once layoff is initiated the news can spread around the business like a
wildfire and provide many negative emotions throughout the organization.

Through research I found that there are many things available that are being done to try and cut the

They are going out to schools in the west with a program called Back to School telling students the
truth about abortion using graphic real images on abortion. The point of this program is to let the
students know that abortion is a horrible thing to do and help them understand that a child is being
killed in this process. The reason that Operation Rescue is targeting students of this age is because
statistics from the Center for Disease Control show that 60% of all abortions are done on women ages
15 to 24. Operation Rescue is using this opportunity to educate the students especially the young
women before they get pregnant and before they make an appointment for an abortion. There is one
problem with this program and that is, people that have volunteered their time to educate the students
can not actually go into the classrooms and talk to the students. They must stay on the sidewalk
outside of the schools so that they are protected by the first amendment. In that lies the problem,
students of that age do not want to listen to anyone else tell them what they should or should not do so
they most, often will choose to ignore what the person has to say.
I strongly support the Sidewalk Counseling solution. Operation Rescue is another supporter of
Sidewalk Counseling as well as other pro life activist. This is where volunteers that are educated stand

Greek Theatre Development
In the 6th century BCE, a new form of recreation and entertainment was taking place. A new artform
would revolutionize civilization in ancient Greece, and subsequently, the rest of the world. With this
new artform came many inventions and developments that have surpassed centuries and influenced
future creativity. With these developments came the theatre of ancient Greece.
While some sources claim that Greek theatre began around the 6th century, other sources claim that
the origins are vague and subject to debate. There is, however, evidence suggesting that the origins of
Greek theatre can trace back to when Greek farmers would celebrate with feasts, music, and dancing
after a bountiful harvest. Evidence also suggests that Greek theatre also originated as entertainment for
the god Dionysos. There is also not much evidence of how early Greek theatres were built as they
were constantly rebuilt. So far, the only evidence of the ambiance and environment surrounding Greek
theatre is in vase paintings.
Once Greek theater took off, it suddenly became the talk of the town, and by the end of the 6th century
BCE, every city in ancient Greece would hold a theatre, which was usually built along a slope so that
audiences sitting the farthest would be able to see the play take place. These theatrons , though
constantly refurbished, had at least three sections: the orchestra, the skene, and the audience. The
orchestra was where all the acting and performances took place. It was the main

The House Of Sand And Fog Summary
Riain Flynn 21 September 2014 Amstud periods 2 3 What Happens When Dreams Collide? In The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, there are an infinite amount of possible outcomes when
dreams collide, but overall not everybody can have his/her dreams fulfilled, unless there is a
compromise to which all parties can agree upon, but only one can get what they came for, and the
characters in the story do not come to this conclusion. This idea is expanded upon throughout the story
of House and Sand and Fog when we get two people, Kathy Nicolo, and Colonel Behrani who have
their dreams intertwine. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of
them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. Kathy Nicolo is upset at the fact that she
had lost her home because of unpaid taxes, and tries to reclaim her house from the family who
currently has legal possession of the house, which leads to utter chaos instead of compromise. ... Show

Rape Myth Acceptance
Rape Myth Acceptance: Maintaining the Status Quo
According to the FBI database, in the year 2013 a rape occurred roughly once every 6.6 minutes. (US
Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2014). This is based on 79,770 reported cases
of rape following an eighty year old definition, which defines rape as carnal knowledge of a female
forcibly and against her will (US Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2014). In
2013 however, the definition of rape was changed, and now reads, Penetration, no matter how slight,
of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another
person, without the consent of the victim (US Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation,

Marxism As A Conflict Theory
Marxism is a conflict theory based on the idea that society is in conflict with each other; the conflict is
between the rich and the poor ( A Brief Introduction to Marxism ). The basic tenets of Marx s theory
rest on the conflict between the different classes of society of which, Marx states that the ideas of the
ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas: i.e.,the class which is the ruling material force of
society is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. The class which has the means for material
production at its disposal have control at the same time over the means of material production, so that
...generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the means of mental and [material] production are
subject to it (Marx ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tenets of Marxism as defined by Marx and Althusser provide a unique lens through which the
reader can view Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Conrad s novella portrays the historical era of
Imperialism, when European countries, Great Britain included, were laying claim to parts of the
African continent for its riches in natural resources. The idea that Imperialism was the highest stage of
capitalism , expressed by Vladimir Lenin, a proponent of Marxism, adds an important layer to a study
of the novella using Marxist theory (Marxism: Essential Writings).
A look at one small scene from Section III of the novel, in which the young Russian speaks about
Kurtz to Marlowe, blatantly illustrates the treatment of the workforce by the ruling class:
He had, as he informed me proudly, managed to nurse Kurtz through two illnesses (he alluded to it as
you would to some risky feat), but as a rule Kurtz wandered alone, far in the depths of the forest. Very
often coming to this station, I had to wait days and days before he would turn up, he said. Ah, it was
worth waiting for! sometimes. What was he doing? exploring or what? I asked. Oh yes, of course; he
had discovered lots of villages, a lake too he did not know exactly in what direction; it was dangerous
to inquire too much but mostly his expeditions had been for ivory. But he

In the poem, Numbers Man by Phil Kaye, a relationship is described by the narrator, an old laptop.
The relationship is between the laptop and its owner. As the poem goes on we begin to understand that
the laptop considered the owner as a close friend or possibly a significant other. He gave his face in

with it was special. The relationship was significant to the laptop, almost God follower like. Yet this
poem is about the narrator reminiscing about the owner using it. The owner had replaced the laptop

The Effects Of Injury Assessment On Athletes Participating
Soccer like other popular sports has a risk of injury for the athletes participating. As a part of the
sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have the
athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in
soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from
overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an injury.
The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the injury, locate signs and
symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2). Our injury assessment is
aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special
tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking questions
such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or
actions that have been causing this injury. Observation is looking for signs, which are observable
deformities such as a rash, swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for
pain or unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries
based on specific joint tests. One of the most important things for any sports medicine team to know is
the emergency actions plan for their facility. This is a

Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is involuntary leakage of urine during sleep in children at least five

wetting their beds (www.niddk.nih.gov). Enuresis is classified into two categories; primary:
bedwetting in children who have never been dry for extended periods, or secondary: onset of
bedwetting after a period of established continence. The most common is primary enuresis. The
development of enuresis can be multifactorial. The results can be from the over production of urine at
night, reduced capacity of the bladder, the inability to wake up, and genetic factors. Enuresis is more

Causes Of Migrant Labor In The Philippines
Introduction Approximately 10 12 million Filipinos work as migrants abroad; the number of people
leaving the country to find work is so high that migration is a regular part of life in the Philippines
(Pardis, 121). Due to deeply embedded structural flows of capital and labor present in
postcolonial/neocolonial economic arrangements, the Philippines depend on migrant labor as a
significant export (Pardis, 123). The combination of neoliberal policies and globalization result in
push and pull forces across portions of societies and national borders that motivate migration in search
of employment or safety, such as increasing poverty and anemic development, causing the Philippines
to rely significantly on migrant labor to strengthen the domestic economy. (Pardis, 143). The heavy
reliance on migrant labor has created, in some instances, a situation of forced migration that renders
potential migrants at risk of being a trafficked person prone to exploitation as cheap labor, bonded
workers, or prostitutes (Saat, 137). Aspirant migrants depend on others to facilitate their movement,
making them susceptible to criminal intentions of those offering work opportunities abroad and
organizing travel requirements (Kempadoo, 74). The logistics of migration (recruitment,
transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons) do not constitute trafficking when carried out
formally and the person is fully informed of the conditions of work and understandings of payments
and obligations

European Colonialism
In the fourth group of documents, Texts from the Modern World, the common theme in all five
primary sources is European colonialism. The documents show different beliefs and notions about
European Colonialism drawing from the point of view of both its beneficiaries and its victims; out of
the five documents three were written by people of European descent and two were written by
indigenous people. Europeans, such as Rudyard Kipling, John Stuart Mill, and Lewis Cass, see
colonialism as being a mutually beneficial relationship between Europeans and the indigenous people
they encounter. They believe that they there are not only benefitting economically from colonialism,
but that they are also doing a good to the human race by introducing the indigenous people they
encounter to civilization. While some indigenous people refuted European efforts of Westernization,
others fought for the right to benefit economically and socially from colonialism, and argued that the
Europeans were not keeping their promise to them. In the document, On Colonies and Colonization,
John Stuart Mill makes an argument in support of European colonization. Mill recognized that
colonization was boosting the English economy, but he took his argument further, saying The question
of government intervention in the work of Colonization involves the future and permanent interest of
civilization itself, and far outstretches the comparatively narrow limits of purely economic
considerations. In his opinion,

Heracles And The Nemean Lion Essay
Created just a century or so later than the Pseudo Apollodorus accounts in the Bibliotheca 2, this
mosaic titled Heracles the Nemean Lion was created in the third century C.E. Located in the National
Archeological Museum of Spain, neither the catalog number for the museum or the Beazley Archive
number are given. More than 700 years had passed since the creation of figures 1 4, and the story is
still the same. Although in this mosaic, Heracles is standing up and strangling the lion, not on the
ground. Heracles is also still naked, not having obtained his armor, which would come from that very
lion. This is a mosaic found in a roman context. Meaning that the transition from prominently Greek
society to one shared, and later taken over, with Rome kept the legend of Heracles very close to what
it had become, even when crossing cultural lines.
Present day of the legend of Heracles, using the roman version Hercules, still has not changed. With
the twelve athlois still being present, the first being the Nemean lion, the legend has stayed true. In the

The Blitz and St Paul s Cathedral Essay
The Blitz and St Paul s Cathedral
When the Blitz began over Britain in the fall of 1940, Londoners were frightened and unsure of what
the Nazis had in store for them. However, their uneasy emotions would later change into feelings of
nationalistic pride and perseverance, as London became a city full of active resistors to the Nazi
forces. This change would be prompted from a variety of sources, including Winston Churchill, the
media, as well as the emergence of inspirational symbols. St. Paul s Cathedral is undoubtedly the most
powerful of these symbols, becoming a timeless image associated with the Blitz, encapsulating
sentiments of hope and courage.

At least 2,000 fires erupted and transport was disrupted for days. The attacks were concentrated on the
Fleet Street area and the West End, and over 1,200 people were killed. The last massive attack took
place during the nights of May 10 and 11, 1941. The raid consisted of over 800 tons of explosives and
produced over 2,000 fires.
Prepping the City
In order to deal with the threat of the bombing of London, the British government took on a variety of
precautions. From a militaristic standpoint, the R.A.F. bomber force was built up in hope that fear of
reprisal would keep the Germans away. But when it came to the point that an attack was more than
likely, the British government sought to camouflage targets as best as they could. Individual targets
were hidden by smoke and paint during the day and a total blackout, over all of Britain and Northern
Ireland, was mandatory at night. The blackout made it difficult for the bombers to find their targets
and did result in a spreading out of the bombs, instead of concentrated attacks on selected areas.
Prepping the People
With the threat of gas, high explosives, and fire, the people of London called for protection. The

  • 2. Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk... Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . This book helped explain the American Revolution as a means of theory failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians exaggerate on certain events or people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. Continental s internal forecasts indicated that a further decline in passenger volume should be anticipated throughout 2009, with a recovery in travel possibly occurring by the middle of 2010. To summarize, adverse economic conditions in the U.S., coupled with the rise in fuel costs, were dragging down Continental s profits and relief was unlikely through the foreseeable future. THE DECISION TO REDUCE FLYING CAPACITY AND THE IMPACT ON OPERATING COSTS Given the situation described above, management needed to act swiftly to restore profitability. Several strategic options were evaluated. Since the U.S. and much of the world was facing a severe recession, the prospect for growing revenues by either raising airfares or passenger volume seemed futile. Contrary to raising revenue, Continental s managers believed that raising fares could potentially erode future revenues beyond the present level. Discounting fares did not seem a plausible solution either, because given the severity of the economic situation a fare cut could fall short in stimulating additional passenger demand and lead to lowering revenues. Thus, because management anticipated that revenues would remain flat for most of the year, the only viable short term solution to restoring profits was a substantial and swift reduction in operating costs. This could most effectively be accomplished in two ways. First, through a reduction in flying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ecological Study Of The Honey Bees And The Flowers Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships between organisms, the interactions between organisms and their environment, and the processes involved in the distribution of organisms. Flowers pollinated by honey bees in the middle of a field can be studied ecologically. For instance: the species of honey bee inhabiting this field of flowers can be analyzed, the amount of honey bees of this particular species found on this field can be calculated, and the factors affecting the honey bee population can be investigated. This form of ecological study is called population ecology as it studies a single species population in a given area. Studying the interaction between the honey bees and the flowers, instead, goes to a different category of ecology called community ecology. Community ecology studies the relationships and interactions between different populations in a given location. Studying a broader scope like the structure and functions of all the biotic and abiotic factors of the field, including the honey bees and the flowers, dives into a different category of ecology which is called ecosystem ecology. This category looks into all the interactions going on in the system and where the energy is flowing, which is a cycle that always starts from the producers of the system to the consumers of the system. Population ecology studies the factors that affect the population size of one species in a certain geographical area. Four factors affect population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It became the known system called federalism, in which a strong national government with a clear separation of powers between executive, legislative, and judicial branches functioned alongside state governments with clearly designated responsibilities. Along with arguments about how best to ensure the rights of individual states were to be protected and how the people would be represented in congress were also resolved by establishing a senate with equal representation for each state, and a House of Representatives for the number of delegates was determined by population counts (Shi 2015 pg. 218). However, many of the delegates during the period of the ratification of the U.S. Constitution had widely different ideas about how each of the independent countries should be organized and run, including George Mason and Ben Franklin. To start with, George Mason, who was a delegate at the Constitutional Convention increasingly became uneasy with the document, because he feared and questioned, Whether a consolidated government can preserve the freedom and secure the rights of the people. They need it to shower, brush their teeth, cook, taking care of the landscapes, and most importantly to live. Water is everywhere but as some people say it will soon become scarce due to the fact people are being very wasteful with it. Water conservation is a big topic in the United States when it comes to California, a state known for their droughts. It seems like every years there is always something on the news headlines talking about a drought in California. Conserving water would obviously become an even bigger deal if we lived in California instead of the Midwest. Obviously the topic of water conservation is still a big topic in the Midwest because as a nation, people are wasteful and taking having water for granted in our everyday lives. Although scientists and astronomers are learning how they can get water from comets and asteroids if planet Earth were to run out of water one day it is still in the experimental phase and is not a for sure thing on Earth. For the time being, instead of wasting the water, in people s everyday life s they can help reduce the risk of water going completely extinct by understanding how the water is going to waste, solutions to saving water, and being smart when dealing with landscaping. A new artform would revolutionize civilization in ancient Greece, and subsequently, the rest of the world. With this new artform came many inventions and developments that have surpassed centuries and influenced future creativity. With these developments came the theatre of ancient Greece. While some sources claim that Greek theatre began around the 6th century, other sources claim that the origins are vague and subject to debate. There is, however, evidence suggesting that the origins of Greek theatre can trace back to when Greek farmers would celebrate with feasts, music, and dancing after a bountiful harvest. Evidence also suggests that Greek theatre also originated as entertainment for the god Dionysos. There is also not much evidence of how early Greek theatres were built as they were constantly rebuilt. So far, the only evidence of the ambiance and environment surrounding Greek theatre is in vase paintings. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. Kathy Nicolo is upset at the fact that she had lost her home because of unpaid taxes, and tries to reclaim her house from the family who currently has legal possession of the house, which leads to utter chaos instead of compromise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tenets of Marxism as defined by Marx and Althusser provide a unique lens through which the reader can view Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Conrad s novella portrays the historical era of Imperialism, when European countries, Great Britain included, were laying claim to parts of the African continent for its riches in natural resources. The idea that Imperialism was the highest stage of capitalism , expressed by Vladimir Lenin, a proponent of Marxism, adds an important layer to a study of the novella using Marxist theory (Marxism: Essential Writings). A look at one small scene from Section III of the novel, in which the young Russian speaks about Kurtz to Marlowe, blatantly illustrates the treatment of the workforce by the ruling class: He had, as he informed me proudly, managed to nurse Kurtz through two illnesses (he alluded to it as you would to some risky feat), but as a rule Kurtz wandered alone, far in the depths of the forest. Very often coming to this station, I had to wait days and days before he would turn up, he said. Ah, it was worth waiting for! sometimes. What was he doing? exploring or what? I asked. As a part of the sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have the athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an injury. The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the injury, locate signs and symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2). Our injury assessment is aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking questions such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or actions that have been causing this injury. Observation is looking for signs, which are observable deformities such as a rash, swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for pain or unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries based on specific joint tests. • 38. Causes Of Migrant Labor In The Philippines Introduction Approximately 10 12 million Filipinos work as migrants abroad; the number of people leaving the country to find work is so high that migration is a regular part of life in the Philippines (Pardis, 121). Due to deeply embedded structural flows of capital and labor present in postcolonial/neocolonial economic arrangements, the Philippines depend on migrant labor as a significant export (Pardis, 123). The combination of neoliberal policies and globalization result in push and pull forces across portions of societies and national borders that motivate migration in search of employment or safety, such as increasing poverty and anemic development, causing the Philippines to rely significantly on migrant labor to strengthen the domestic economy. (Pardis, 143). The heavy reliance on migrant labor has created, in some instances, a situation of forced migration that renders potential migrants at risk of being a trafficked person prone to exploitation as cheap labor, bonded workers, or prostitutes (Saat, 137). Aspirant migrants depend on others to facilitate their movement, making them susceptible to criminal intentions of those offering work opportunities abroad and organizing travel requirements (Kempadoo, 74). The logistics of migration (recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons) do not constitute trafficking when carried out formally and the person is fully informed of the conditions of work and understandings of payments and obligations ... The documents show different beliefs and notions about European Colonialism drawing from the point of view of both its beneficiaries and its victims; out of the five documents three were written by people of European descent and two were written by indigenous people. Europeans, such as Rudyard Kipling, John Stuart Mill, and Lewis Cass, see colonialism as being a mutually beneficial relationship between Europeans and the indigenous people they encounter. They believe that they there are not only benefitting economically from colonialism, but that they are also doing a good to the human race by introducing the indigenous people they encounter to civilization. While some indigenous people refuted European efforts of Westernization, others fought for the right to benefit economically and socially from colonialism, and argued that the Europeans were not keeping their promise to them. In the document, On Colonies and Colonization, John Stuart Mill makes an argument in support of European colonization. Mill recognized that colonization was boosting the English economy, but he took his argument further, saying The question of government intervention in the work of Colonization involves the future and permanent interest of civilization itself, and far outstretches the comparatively narrow limits of purely economic considerations.
