Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics
and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz
is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the
social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the
Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro
American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and
improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show

Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences
between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African
influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues
was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was
European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted
melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European
influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned
during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make
drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so
much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37).
On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is
a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the
way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become
American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. In Jazz A History, Frank Tirro wisely analyzes and
explains the relationship between the unique background and

Don Frohman s Non-Programmed Decision
Before I can agree or disagree with Don Frohman s decision to remain open before and after the
attacks occurred, there are a many factors to analyze. Prior to the first attack, nothing like this has ever
happened previously to Don Frohman, I would assume, so this decision he would make would be a
non programmed decision. He would not be able to look back to what other managers had done in a
similar situation like he could with a programmed decision. It is also important to recognize the time
frame given to Don to make his decision. Don needed to make a decision immediately because there
was no sign of when the missile attacks would occur. The only information he could gather was that
Iraqi Scud missiles, which may or may not be laden with chemical

The question of sexual identity is asked to many professional athletes when they are first diagnosed
with HIV or tested positive for the AIDS virus. Magic Johnson is a five time championship winner
with the Los Angeles Lakers, awarded MVP three times, and played amongst the first nine Olympic
All Star teams (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Despite these great achievements in his
life, his contact with the HIV virus caused him to face much discrimination. Although Johnson s
source of the virus has been unknown, many people have misconceptions of AIDS as an exclusively
gay disease and thought that Magic was homosexual because of his positive test (Stewart). During an
interview with Arsenio Hall, immediately after admitting his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While Magic continues to be healthy, public sentiment will be overwhelmingly on his side, but some
AIDS activists worry that when he gets sicker, that support may fade (Stewart). In Kantrowitz s article
Larry Kramer states, When his body becomes skin and bones and pus and runny sores, there won t be
so many people running to embrace him . Due to his good health and admitting to the disease early,
this prevented him from the harsh discrimination others have faced. Racism also may be a factor when
the disease progresses for Johnson. Black men are faced with discrimination everyday and looked
upon as criminals and drug addicts (Kantrowitz). Once you add the stigma of AIDS a black man with
AIDS is treated like garbage quot; (Kantrowitz). As Johnson s disease progresses one can expect the
same alienation and cruel discrimination as other less famous people.
A similar event that has recently taken place is the accusation of homosexuality towards Mike Piazza
for the New York Mets. Mike Piazza is not HIV positive nor does he have AIDS, but when a New
York Post s gossip columns ran an item in late May suggesting that a major league baseball player
whom it did not name is ready to come out all eyes turned to Piazza (Meers). Suspicion of his
sexuality began when he once stated, In this day and age, [sexual orientation is] irrelevant, I don t

Jonah John Piper Essay
In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have strong
racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist members, then
he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he discussed the
nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring racist views troubling
and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist. According to John Piper, church
members of his mother s church are racists because they voted against blacks from attending their
congregation; however the members are Christians and yet they harbor such racist views. Then Piper
claims that this racism is contrary to the spirit of Jesus Christ who told us to love our enemies and to
do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27, 28). This had baffled Piper, how could these Christians
possess such racist views? I think Piper cleared this issue up when brought up the story of The Good
Samaritan . Even though the two races despise each other the Samaritan still had the heart to take care
of the stranded man. Piper had also recalled being at a party for you church couples and man had

desire the good for everyone, no matter what race or nationality. Piper then continues to talk about the

intelligence. Suppose you are Japanese and have superior marketing skill. Suppose you are an
American and have superior technological prowess. It doesn t matter! It is irrelevant in the way you

The, The Message Pt. 2
In 1971 at the start of Nixon s war on drugs, before the 0000s crack epidemic; before the advent of
political tactics used to demonstrify ghetto neighborhoods succeeded in bastardizing its urban youth,
Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five recorded what is considered one of the greatest urban
narratives of his time. In his rap The Message Pt. 2 Flash described the daily occurrences and harsh
realities of his ghetto life in vivid detail. Now 45 years later in the midst of black lives matter, at a
place in America where black lives must be affirmed through hashtags and protest, many are upset that
the American art people have come to rely on, to tell the stories and narrate the experiences of being
poor and black, only exist to valorize the crime, money, drugs and sex that come from being poor.

Aristotle s Influence On Democracy
After democracy was introduced in Athens around the 5th century B.C.E., the majority of the Greek
intellectual community condemned it as a form of communal tyranny. Socrates was put to trial and
executed after a vote by the Athenian citizens because, despite strong evidence negating their
arguments, the common people blamed him for corrupting the city s youth. Aristotle would later argue
in his writings that the most effective democracy should include equal power between the rich
minority and the poor majority, so the poor could not take advantage of the rich. In other words,
Aristotle felt that the poor should have a disproportionately small voice in democracy, perhaps
believing that they were fundamentally less capable than the educated bourgeois of making the right
decision. After two and a half thousand millennia have past, we d all like to believe we ve perfected
this tried and failed egalitarian system. After all, the entirety of the first world operates under political
structures that can largely be described as democratic, and there is something intuitively, morally
correct about every person having an equal say, right?
On November 8th, 2016, when Hilary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential
election, the academic elite screamed their approval. This was progress. This will go down as the
iconic victory of tolerance over bigotry, of rational thought over dogmatism, of love over hate. After a
historically gruesome campaign, characterized by violence,

Gil Scott Heron Essay
Gil Scott Heron BHSECQ Rahat Today, rap music is an ever growing genre of music that is often
centered on hedonistic pursuits such as wealth, cars, drinks, and fame. About forty years ago,
however, rap music focused on an entirely different subject matter. During the 1970s, African
Americans sung rap songs to express the need for Black empowerment in society; though their form
of singing was not called rapping back then, it was called spoken word poetry, a form of song in which
verses of poetry were performed with a fixed beat before an audience. African Americans used this
style of singing to express the discontent with the economics and politics during the 1970s. The black
population was still economically and politically powerless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The context and setting of this rap is American in the 1970 s. Historically, this period came after the
Civil Rights Movement, during the start of the Nixon era. The Vietnam War was dividing the nation s
population into anti war protestors and those that supported the war effort. It was an era of recession
and continued change for minorities. One of the issues was enforced racial integration after the Civil
Rights Movement, which many institutions had still not complied with. The struggle to find equality
even after the movement was something African Americans at the time had to deal with. The support
for the black power movement was one of many results of this struggle. The media and press largely
did not report on the alienation that was still present. This was an inspiration for Scott Heron and this
song in particular. Factual References in The Revolution Will Not be Televised Gil Scott Heron
presents many references to the superficial media and policies that were at the time ignorant of the
struggle of African American integration. His spoken word poetry describes these outlets of references
before repeating the phrase The Revolution Will Not Be Televised... to strengthen the claim that the
consumer media is superficially choosing to pretend that all was well when in fact a revolution was
happening at their doorstep. A selection of references will be analyzed from

The Implementation And Sustenance Of Jit
In the implementation and sustenance of JIT, psychological factors also play a vital role. Little
consideration of the complexities involved in psychological pattern of employees and suppliers would
reveal a vast field hitherto explored in the manufacturing environment. Every manufacturing practice
has two elements; one is the technical element and other is the human element. In this paper, we
attempt to understand the criticalities involved in the human element of the JIT practice. For this
purpose, we researched upon the various factors affecting the human element and present the
information in the following order. Firstly, we list down the factors or characteristics that would
enable JIT to be successfully implemented and sustained. Secondly, we attempt to gain in depth
understanding these factors thru the research work conducted by work psychologist and how these
factors behave in molding the implementation. Thirdly, we present how these factors are handled in
industries and what are the possible solutions presented by academic and industries entities to tackle
the challenges posed by these factors and its relations.
Academic research not only concentrated on the traditional cross cultural psychology like leadership,
motivation, work values etc. but also staffing, performance management and employee health and
safety. These research will better able to layout practices that can work in various cultural contexts.
The psychological impact on manufacturing practices can be

The Conceptual Schema Of Women
Women are seen powerless in many instances and Marilyn Frye details the accounts where women are
viewed as second to men in To see and Be Seen. Frye uses a metaphysics approach to better
understand how people come to power. She gives a metaphysical understanding of how the world has
been determined by people of power, which throughout history has been men. Men have been in
authority throughout history and have come up with society s conceptual schema. Frye alludes to
people in power don t want to see people who are submissive. Men fit into the conceptual schema,
women are excluded but are allowed in the schema in certain ways and lesbians are not included.
Lesbians are seen as unnatural and are not recognized in the schema. Their perspective on society is
not taken into account, whereas women are recognized but their own perspective on society is
completely erased.
Men in charge do not identify women or lesbian s experiences and view women as a mystery. The
conceptual schema lead women to view society as men do, but lesbians do not view the world through
men s perspective. Suppressing a groups perspective excluded them from reality. Men are dominant
and women are dominated. Frye mentions Sarah Hoagland s paper saying, In the conceptual schemes
of phallocracies... there is no such thing as a lesbian. This puts a lesbian in the interesting and peculiar
position of being something that does not exist, and this position is a singular vantage point with
respect to the

The Truth About Stories By Thomas King
In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly
enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s
thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through
native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling.
Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King
mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The
first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex,
persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the
animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical
story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion,
underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply
telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how
different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making.
Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be
taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning

Rail Devaluation Definition
Labor all costs for railway staff salaries, pensions, and benefits such as medical insurance.
Energy costs of electricity and diesel fuel. For freight and passenger entities, most energy costs are
associated with traction, but some costs may include electricity for facilities. Some railways classify
diesel fuel as materials and electricity as services .
Materials costs of track materials such as rails, sleepers, and ballast, spare parts, and other
consumables for rail operations and maintenance (but not for capital investments).
Services all externally purchased services such as maintenance on rolling stock and infrastructure,
computer support, and passenger train catering.
Rental payments for use of any asset or facility; typically, this includes lease payments for rolling
stock, which can be substantial. Also, railways pay rental per diem when they interchange traffic and
use neighboring railways rolling stock. Often, per diem payments and receipts balance, so the net
effect is insignificant. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In any case, devaluation depends on the recorded expense of benefits, so amid times of high
expansion, railroads need to restate resources quality and deterioration rates, which will be not exactly
the sum expected to recharge them.
Relative extents of these six expense gatherings may change, contingent upon the kind of
administrations railroads give. For instance, the offer of work expenses for traveler administrations is
higher than for cargo administrations. A higher offer of administrations may be exchanged off for
lower shares of work and materials. On the off chance that low deterioration reflects restricted
speculation, costs for materials may rise in light of the fact that more established resources are all the

Indignation, by Philip Roth, is narrated by Marcus Messner, a young man from Newark, New Jersey,
set in the early 1950 s. Marcus is dead, reflecting on the critical events of his life leading up to his
downfall. He believes these events were causally related; if one event in his life ended differently, his
death could have been avoided. Marcus laments his misfortune as an unlucky soul. His mother calls
him defiant, as if it is a natural characteristic that all Messners, and followers of Bertrand Russell

Analysis of The Inmortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by...
The novel, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot is divided into 3 sections: life,
which tells the reader about Henrietta s life and the birth of HeLa; death, which consists of times after
Henrietta s death, and lastly; immortality, which discusses how Henrietta s cells have become
immortal. Overall, the book is based on Henrietta and the lives of her children and how they cope with
the way medical science has treated their mother. Though the book is not written in chronological
order, Skloot does a good job of organizing her information according to its section.
The first section, life, tells the reader about the beginning of HeLa. Henrietta s symptoms began
shortly after the birth of her fourth child, Deborah. Henrietta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

George told a few of his closest colleagues that he thought his lab might have grown the first immortal
human cells. To which they replied, Can I have some? And George said yes (Skloot 41). Sadly,
Henrietta would never know of the exciting history her cells would soon be making. She passed away
on October 4, 1951 of cervical cancer. She was thirty one years old.
The next section, death, shows how HeLa helped prevent premature death due to certain diseases,
including polio. In 1951, the world saw the biggest polio, epidemic in history. In 1952, a man named
Jonas Salk announced he had found a cure for polio but there was one problem; he needed to test it on
a large scale before offering it to children. However, to do that he would need culturing cells on an
enormous, industrial scale, which no one had done before (Skloot 93). The NFIP (National Foundation
for Infantile Paralysis) began organizing the largest field trial ever conducted to test the polio vaccine
(Skloot 93). The cells used in neutralization tests came from monkeys, which were very expensive at
the time, so the NFIP turned to expert cell culturists, including George Gey, who realized HeLa was
unlike any human cells he had seen. As long as HeLa was susceptible to polio, the mass production
problem would be solved and it would be cheaper for the NFIP. In April 1952, William Scherer tried
infecting HeLa with the poliovirus and found it is even more susceptible to

Use Of Social Networking Sites On An Individual s Mental...
Question: What are the effects (if there are any) of the use of Social Networking Sites on an individual
s mental health? Abstract This paper takes a comprehensive look at the effects of the use of social
networking sites on an individual s mental and psychological health. Are the effects positive, negative
or can they be both? This article will look at the work of scholars who differ in opinion and discuss
what else can be done to help form a concrete answer and solution to the question. Most of the
theoretical perspectives used in the research for this paper are based on the use of quantitative
methods such as surveys, statistics and experiments. The most relevant theory in his field appears to
be the Uses and Gratifications Theory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On its surface, the effects of using these social networking sites seem fairly harmless. Many scholars
state that social networking sites allow close friends or family members to stay in contact with one
another and they also allow connections (business or social) to be made with individuals that an
individual may not ever come into contact with possible. On the other side of the spectrum, some
scholars argue that there are negative effects that can be linked to the use of social networking sites.
There have been studies conducted that link the use of social networking sites to mental and
psychological issues such as depression, low self esteem and diminishing social interaction skills. This
paper will take a look at the research that has been conducted in the field of mental health as it relates
to the use of social networking sites. Multiple literary works will be used to give the reader a
comprehensive and accurate look at how the use of social networking sites can have both positive and
negative effects on an individual s mental and psychological health on an elementary level. Method
The resources that were used to gather data and information in regard to the topic at hand were mostly
gathered using Georgia State University s Library and its online search engines such as Galileo and

Coffee As A Good Quality Coffee Essay
Coffee has been a part of the daily lives of human beings. Whether it is fresh, black, with cream, 3 in
1, or 5 in 1 coffee; people drink it. However, the production of coffee is not simple. First, the coffee
beans are grown and ripe, and then they are harvested. These coffee beans need to be roasted in order
to make a coffee beverage. Roasted coffee beans vary in colour and taste. But no matter the strength of
the coffee taste, coffee will always be part of our lives. There are many processes before the coffee
beans become the coffee that you drink. First, coffee seeds are planted in rich soil in order to grow a
good quality coffee plant. The seed will be taken care of for a long period of time until it is fully
grown and bears fruit. Once the coffee plant bears fruit, the farmers wait until the fruit is ripe before
they start harvesting it. Green coffee beans are then produced. After all the coffee plants have been
ripped of their fruits, the farmers will roast all the coffee beans. After they are all roasted in the desired
level, coffee beans are grinded into coffee powder. Once pulverized, the resulting raw material will
then be packed and is ready to be sold. Roasting coffee is basically to control the flavour that comes
out of the beans. Green unroasted coffee beans are smaller and much heavier than a roasted coffee
bean. Unroasted coffee bean can also last for years when stored properly and carefully. However,
roasted coffee beans are equally needed by people

Foolishness Quotes In Hamlet
Hamlet A Character of Foolishness and Wisdom
I am going to be sharing my thoughts on the character of Hamlet from Shakespeare s play entitled
Hamlet. The fact Shakespeare named the play after Hamlet is our first clue that he is a complicated
character who will be important to the entire play. Hamlet is the character who drives the story line of
the play. However, Hamlet speaks of providence which means he recognizes another power driving
his and his family and friends lives. Although Hamlet is trying to right a wrong, his father s murder, he
does not achieve this in a direct manner. He does not find the truth and quickly act to see justice done.
He stumbles and falls along the plot achieving his goal in the end, but he foolishly kills a man himself
and he often has strange behaviors and sayings. Although Hamlet is honored at the end of the play his
personality exhibits a combination of both foolishness and wisdom. ... Show more content on

Solutions to the Problem of Domestic Violence Essay
Domestic violence is skyrocketing in our society. In the U.S., as many as 1.5 million women and
850,000 men were physically assaulted by their intimate partner last year, and numerous children
abused by their parents. These sad criminal acts will continue to grow in our society, unless our
community takes action to stop these crimes. First of all the most important tool we have available
against this type of crime are the authorities, which include the police department, hospital, and social
workers. If they manage to work together as a team to make the whole process of protecting a victim
more efficiently, it will encourage victims to actually phone for help. It is believed that over half of the
abuses remain unreported due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, after everyone is settled and calmed down, it is essential for the authorities to investigate exactly
what happened and interview people to find out if there actually had been signs that acted as warnings
for the events to follow. Authorities have to be extra careful in their research, since many wives just
make up a scenes and stories, in order to get their innocent husbands into jail, so that they can live
together with their lovers, and get the money and houses, while their husbands spend their time in jail
with mass murderers! The actual happenings described above are extreme solutions for victims, and
are highly effective, but usually the victims feel cautious about causing such trouble to their offender,
since they fear that they will be released from prison some day, and get their revenge. Bearing this fact
in mind, society must also offer other means of supporting a victim, which are not as radical. A simple
hotline can work wonders in offering victims simply someone who is qualified to talk to, and can offer
honest advice and back up. The sufferer can phone up for free, and just try to calm down after the
crime is committed, deciding on what should be done next. In addition to handling just victims calls,
the people working at such call center got to be trained to handle the

Introduction This issue for case study 1 6 is brought to us by Steve Nelson and the company of the
Gregg s Appliances, Inc. The HH Gregg Company was founded on April 15, 1955 in Indianapolis by
Henry Harold Gregg and his wife. The initial store was an 800 square feet appliance showroom and
office. Since then the company has expanded and with that expansion the company needed more and
more information technology in order to harness the power of the information they had acquired. But
in 2006 the current CIO, Steve Nelson, was facing a deadline. The deadline was the HP, which was

The bonuses to this choice would be lower costs compared to Delphi and Sentra, Gregg s could
maintain current business processes and there is limited training required. But the Texas Firm UNIX
platform does not move Gregg s to an industry standard and it requires significant development staff
time. The other UNIX choice was from Ex ADI costing $4 $5 million. The process for this change
would be to hire programmers and re write into a UNIX platform internally. The biggest benefit to this
selection was that it allows for phase in implementation, which means no business will be stopped. It
is also much cheaper than Delphi and Sentra options. The software will also be high adaptable and
customizable and limited training will be required. But this will not move the company to an industry
standard and nothing will seem new. There are several big risks when changing important software in
a large company. It could lead to a sudden halt of the business during the deployment because of a
failed database, a bad internet connection or the inability of staff to input or process orders. The
system might not be able to handle the work load. Lastly, there could be an unexpected complete
system shutdown. There are also other costs to consider. Along with the implementation and annual
maintenance costs outlined in the summary, Nelson Must also consider other costs including: *
Training costs * Testing costs * Costs of lost

The Slavery Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney
1. Many Americans had expected the practice of slavery to die. Americans were given this impression
in relation to decreasing tobacco production due to lack of fertile soil (Foner, 317). However,
Americans would be presented with factors that would lead to an expansion in slavery. The expansion
of slavery deteriorated already terrible conditions for slaves; slave families would be separated and
many female slaves faced imminent forced reproduction with studs or white males. In the 1790 s the
invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney sparked an increase in cotton production in the South. The
cotton gin decreased the labor time it took to pick seeds from the cotton. Slave owners moved or sold
their slaves to deep Southern states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American slave holders answered by creating more hardships and suffrage on slaves. While the
Northern states experienced a greater impact due to the market revolution the market revolution also
impacted slavery expansion. The introduction of new transportation and steam power decreased the
time it took to ship goods and improved canal production. As well, goods could now travel up stream.
The number of large cities near rivers and lakes increased and economics boomed throughout the
country. Due to the market revolution New England experienced an industrial revolution. Work in
factories created mass produced items that were previously made at home or bought locally. This
changed the American family structure, women were now working in mills. Farmer s daughters
worked in the textile mills and boarded nearby. Their leisure time was spent in church or school.
Families now had multiple sources of income, incomes would be impacted by the arrival of German
and Irish immigrants. Irish immigrants settled in New England and were willing to work unskilled job
for low wages, while Germans settled around the North and sought skilled jobs for lower wages. The
industrial revolution further alienated the North and South. Southern states did not have the resources
to benefit from the revolution. In 1819 Missouri requested through congress to submit a state
constitution in order to join the Union. Northern politicians

Speech On Learner Centred Pedagogy
Learner centred pedagogy
We have been talking about child centred or learner centred pedagogy for the past well over 16 years;
but even today our classroom practices mostly remain what they were 25 years ago. Large over
crowded classes, ill trained and untrained teachers, poorly equipped classrooms, single teacher
schools, and multi grade teaching is some of the stark realities that severely restrict the use of learner
centred pedagogy. It is high time that we switch over from teacher centred education to learner centred
teaching and learning. Teachers need to be trained and facilitated to handle learner centred pedagogy.
Inclusive education
Another central concern of teacher education relates to what is known as inclusive or integrated
education. Inclusive/integrated education should cover not only children with mild disabilities (who
are educable ), but also street children, children from remote and nomadic populations, and children
from other disadvantaged and marginalised areas or groups. There is an emerging consensus that
children with special educational needs should be included in the educational arrangements made for
the majority of children. This is the essence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

specific courses in teacher education will provide greater scope and appropriate opportunities to
delineate and discern suitable theoretical inputs and conceptualisation in relation to practices in
education. They will facilitate the process of bringing theory and practice

Within a few minutes after the ambulance had pulled up to the scene, the paparazzi photographers

their ways to the tunnel underpass in Paris on August 31, 1997, and the UK as well as the rest of the
world received the breaking news that Diana, Princess of Wales, had died that night in a car crash.
What was astonishing was not the rapidity of the news that is, after all, the beauty of modern

And how does the issue of increasing immigration fit in, now that the sun has set on the British
Empire (Foa, par.2)?
Nowadays, when we think of what is relevantly British, we think of such icons such as the Queen and
the royal family, bangers and mash, Blackadder, the Union Jack, the BBC, beer, double decker buses,
the class system, football/soccer the list goes on. The reason why these symbols are chosen above
other is that they are recognizable all over the United Kingdom as part of some national identity.
Every item on that list has a particularity to British culture and therefore to a uniting sense of identity.
The media has been instrumental in spreading the popularity of said products, exporting them
internationally (the BBC, for instance, and its link into American television with BBC America) as
well as promoting them domestically.
The British media has contributed to spreading elements of national identity but how has national
identity influenced the British media? When it comes to the BBC, it has been closely defined in
regards to servicing the British population as a whole, and this common link that everyone is supposed
to be able to enjoy serves as yet another facet of national identity. Because of its founding principles
of public service broadcasting, the BBC s identity was grounded in the idea

America s Tax Policy Is Not Appropriate For The United...
A very controversial topic in today s society is America s tax policy. Currently, there is three different
solutions to the current tax system. One is lowering the rate for progressive tax, our current tax
system, which is progressively higher tax rate with more income. The second is fair tax, which is
where people are only taxed for buying goods, not their income. The most suitable solution, is where
everyone is treated fairly and must pay the same percentage of tax; this is known as flat tax. Our
current tax policy is not appropriate for the United States of America.
The current tax system is named progressive tax. Progressive tax is established off the people who
make more money pay more in taxes while the people who make less money pay less in taxes. This
system does not fit in well with today s society because the more compensated are charged much more
than the less compensated, the top 1% of taxpayers have consistently paid more in federal income
taxes than the bottom 90% since 2003 and that share has increased almost every year since 1980
(Phillips). Having the top 1% of taxpayers pay more than the super majority of the country is
extraordinarily unfair to the 1%. A main principle of the United States is equality, so the tax policy
should be more equal. With flat tax enacted every person would be paying the identical percentage of
tax. With this in mind, it is not exactly equal, but very close. On the flip side, it does give the lower
income people a break while

The Political Structure Of Usa
Hello everyone, today I will speak about political structure of USA. I would like to start with some
definitions. I know you know most of them but to not get confused by these terms, first we have to
know their meaning.
Forms of Government
Democracy literally means rule of people . This is a system which people choose their leaders directly
or indirectly by voting. What do I mean by directly or indirectly? In direct or pure democracies,
people decide about the policies that affect them directly and in representative democracies, people
select representatives to represent themselves and decide about policies. ( democracy definition of

Monarchy means the rule of one . This is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and they form a central government but central government is weak and has limited powers which
means that states are supreme authority. Example: Soviet Union
And in federation, powers are formally divided and there are two authorities: central and local. It is
usually divided by means of a constitution. Each state has power of some management of its internal
affairs. Example: Germany
And in unitary system, like in England, there are local governments but their powers are granted by
central government. Example: China
What are the advantages and disadvantages of these systems?
Advantages and Disadvantages of Confederation
Since the local governments are more powerful tyranny is almost impossible.
Government is closer to its citizens. It can easily find solutions to its citizens problems.
A confederation can split apart easily.
Lack of central authority can cause problems while handling the issue of currency, international
treaties, or maintenance of an army.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Unitary Government
Power is not shared.
Law is for all people and it is not contradictory because there is one government which is responsible
for making and enforcing laws.
It is efficient and it saves time since there is one national government in control.
It is easier to control small countries but if the country is large, the national government can lose
control.
It is not expensive. It is a simple system. Central

Buddhist Doctrine Of Karma Essay example
The Buddhist doctrine of karma ( quot;deeds quot;, quot;actions quot;), and the closely related
doctrine of rebirth, are perhaps the best known, and often the least understood, of Buddhist doctrines.
The matter is complicated by the fact that the other Indian religious traditions of Hinduism and
Jainism have their own theories of Karma and Reincarnation. It is in fact the Hindu versions that are
better known in the West. The Buddhist theory of karma and rebirth are quite distinct from their other
Indian counterparts.
In Buddhism the law of karma is the moral law of causation good actions give good results and vice
versa. It is the quality of an act, which determines its consequences. But what determines the karmic
quality of a deed? In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Buddhist theory of rebirth asserts that the fruits of some karma may manifest themselves in
quot;future lives quot;. This brings us to the Buddhist theory of rebirth. Similar concepts occur in
other religious systems e.g. the Platonic theory of the quot;pre existence of the soul quot; and the
Hindu Jain theory of re incarnation. Such reincarnation theory involves the transmigration of a soul. In
Buddhism, however, it is the unripened karmic acts outstanding at the death of an individual, which
conditions a new birth. The last moment of consciousness too is also a conditioning factor, but it is the
store of unripened karma generated by volitional acts (the sankhâras) of previous existences which
generates the destiny of the new individual. A newly born individual needs not only the genetic
blueprint derived from the genes of the natural parents, but also a karmic blueprint derived from the
volitional acts of a deceased person.
The question has been posed whether the new individual is the same as the old individual whose
karma it has inherited. The Buddha s answer to this question was somewhat enigmatic: quot;It is not
the same, yet it is not another quot; (na ca so, na ca añño). To understand the Buddha s reply we have
to investigate the criteria, which establish personal identity. Is the child the same as the

  • 2. Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz Ara Cho Ethno 50A 803 672 412 October 14, 2011 Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37). On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. In Jazz A History, Frank Tirro wisely analyzes and explains the relationship between the unique background and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Don Frohman s Non-Programmed Decision Before I can agree or disagree with Don Frohman s decision to remain open before and after the attacks occurred, there are a many factors to analyze. Prior to the first attack, nothing like this has ever happened previously to Don Frohman, I would assume, so this decision he would make would be a non programmed decision. He would not be able to look back to what other managers had done in a similar situation like he could with a programmed decision. It is also important to recognize the time frame given to Don to make his decision. Don needed to make a decision immediately because there was no sign of when the missile attacks would occur. The only information he could gather was that Iraqi Scud missiles, which may or may not be laden with chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rainbow Boys Essay The question of sexual identity is asked to many professional athletes when they are first diagnosed with HIV or tested positive for the AIDS virus. Magic Johnson is a five time championship winner with the Los Angeles Lakers, awarded MVP three times, and played amongst the first nine Olympic All Star teams (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Despite these great achievements in his life, his contact with the HIV virus caused him to face much discrimination. Although Johnson s source of the virus has been unknown, many people have misconceptions of AIDS as an exclusively gay disease and thought that Magic was homosexual because of his positive test (Stewart). During an interview with Arsenio Hall, immediately after admitting his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Magic continues to be healthy, public sentiment will be overwhelmingly on his side, but some AIDS activists worry that when he gets sicker, that support may fade (Stewart). In Kantrowitz s article Larry Kramer states, When his body becomes skin and bones and pus and runny sores, there won t be so many people running to embrace him . Due to his good health and admitting to the disease early, this prevented him from the harsh discrimination others have faced. Racism also may be a factor when the disease progresses for Johnson. Black men are faced with discrimination everyday and looked upon as criminals and drug addicts (Kantrowitz). Once you add the stigma of AIDS a black man with AIDS is treated like garbage quot; (Kantrowitz). As Johnson s disease progresses one can expect the same alienation and cruel discrimination as other less famous people. A similar event that has recently taken place is the accusation of homosexuality towards Mike Piazza for the New York Mets. Mike Piazza is not HIV positive nor does he have AIDS, but when a New York Post s gossip columns ran an item in late May suggesting that a major league baseball player whom it did not name is ready to come out all eyes turned to Piazza (Meers). Suspicion of his sexuality began when he once stated, In this day and age, [sexual orientation is] irrelevant, I don t think it would be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jonah John Piper Essay In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have strong racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist members, then he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he discussed the nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring racist views troubling and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist. According to John Piper, church members of his mother s church are racists because they voted against blacks from attending their congregation; however the members are Christians and yet they harbor such racist views. Then Piper claims that this racism is contrary to the spirit of Jesus Christ who told us to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27, 28). This had baffled Piper, how could these Christians possess such racist views? I think Piper cleared this issue up when brought up the story of The Good Samaritan . Even though the two races despise each other the Samaritan still had the heart to take care of the stranded man. Suppose you are Japanese and have superior marketing skill. Suppose you are an American and have superior technological prowess. It doesn t matter! It is irrelevant in the way you treat people. In his rap The Message Pt. 2 Flash described the daily occurrences and harsh realities of his ghetto life in vivid detail. • 10. Aristotle s Influence On Democracy After democracy was introduced in Athens around the 5th century B.C.E., the majority of the Greek intellectual community condemned it as a form of communal tyranny. Socrates was put to trial and executed after a vote by the Athenian citizens because, despite strong evidence negating their arguments, the common people blamed him for corrupting the city s youth. Aristotle would later argue in his writings that the most effective democracy should include equal power between the rich minority and the poor majority, so the poor could not take advantage of the rich. In other words, Aristotle felt that the poor should have a disproportionately small voice in democracy, perhaps believing that they were fundamentally less capable than the educated bourgeois of making the right decision. After two and a half thousand millennia have past, we d all like to believe we ve perfected this tried and failed egalitarian system. After all, the entirety of the first world operates under political structures that can largely be described as democratic, and there is something intuitively, morally correct about every person having an equal say, right? On November 8th, 2016, when Hilary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, the academic elite screamed their approval. This was progress. This will go down as the iconic victory of tolerance over bigotry, of rational thought over dogmatism, of love over hate. After a historically gruesome campaign, characterized by violence, ... • 15. Gil Scott Heron Essay Gil Scott Heron BHSECQ Rahat Today, rap music is an ever growing genre of music that is often centered on hedonistic pursuits such as wealth, cars, drinks, and fame. About forty years ago, however, rap music focused on an entirely different subject matter. During the 1970s, African Americans sung rap songs to express the need for Black empowerment in society; though their form of singing was not called rapping back then, it was called spoken word poetry, a form of song in which verses of poetry were performed with a fixed beat before an audience. African Americans used this style of singing to express the discontent with the economics and politics during the 1970s. The black population was still economically and politically powerless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The context and setting of this rap is American in the 1970 s. Historically, this period came after the Civil Rights Movement, during the start of the Nixon era. The Vietnam War was dividing the nation s population into anti war protestors and those that supported the war effort. It was an era of recession and continued change for minorities. One of the issues was enforced racial integration after the Civil Rights Movement, which many institutions had still not complied with. The struggle to find equality even after the movement was something African Americans at the time had to deal with. The support for the black power movement was one of many results of this struggle. The media and press largely did not report on the alienation that was still present. This was an inspiration for Scott Heron and this song in particular. In this paper, we attempt to understand the criticalities involved in the human element of the JIT practice. For this purpose, we researched upon the various factors affecting the human element and present the information in the following order. Firstly, we list down the factors or characteristics that would enable JIT to be successfully implemented and sustained. Frye uses a metaphysics approach to better understand how people come to power. She gives a metaphysical understanding of how the world has been determined by people of power, which throughout history has been men. Men have been in authority throughout history and have come up with society s conceptual schema. Frye alludes to people in power don t want to see people who are submissive. Men fit into the conceptual schema, women are excluded but are allowed in the schema in certain ways and lesbians are not included. Lesbians are seen as unnatural and are not recognized in the schema. Their perspective on society is not taken into account, whereas women are recognized but their own perspective on society is completely erased. Men in charge do not identify women or lesbian s experiences and view women as a mystery. The conceptual schema lead women to view society as men do, but lesbians do not view the world through men s perspective. Suppressing a groups perspective excluded them from reality. Men are dominant and women are dominated. Frye mentions Sarah Hoagland s paper saying, In the conceptual schemes of phallocracies... there is no such thing as a lesbian. • 18. The Truth About Stories By Thomas King In the book, the Truth About Stories, Thomas King sheds light on the power of stories. King explicitly enforces that one must take caution in the way he or she tells a story, since it will shape one s thoughts, decision making and future (2). Through the use of literature, King weaves his way through native history, anecdote by anecdote, informing his readers about the importance of storytelling. Stories are wondrous things, the author writes. And they are dangerous. (9). To prove this, King mentions two creation stories; the differences in these stories is the way in which they are told. The first is a famous native story called, the woman who fell from the sky ; this story is told in a complex, persuasive way (10 20). This story discusses a society emphasizing the value of cooperation as the animals work together to create a better world (21 22). The second story, a Judeo Christian biblical story, describes a Western Capitalist society. It is told in a historical, punitive and direct fashion, underlining a society of boundaries and punishment. King highlights that storytelling is not just simply telling a story, rather it is how the stories are told. King uses these particular stories to show how different stories shape people s perspectives, which impacts their ideas, thoughts and decision making. Therefore he addresses how sensitive storytelling may be, for once a story is told, it can never be taken back (10). This is true in all realms of life, cautioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was thirty one years old. The next section, death, shows how HeLa helped prevent premature death due to certain diseases, including polio. In 1951, the world saw the biggest polio, epidemic in history. In 1952, a man named Jonas Salk announced he had found a cure for polio but there was one problem; he needed to test it on a large scale before offering it to children. However, to do that he would need culturing cells on an enormous, industrial scale, which no one had done before (Skloot 93). The NFIP (National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis) began organizing the largest field trial ever conducted to test the polio vaccine (Skloot 93). The cells used in neutralization tests came from monkeys, which were very expensive at the time, so the NFIP turned to expert cell culturists, including George Gey, who realized HeLa was unlike any human cells he had seen. • 28. Coffee As A Good Quality Coffee Essay Coffee has been a part of the daily lives of human beings. Whether it is fresh, black, with cream, 3 in 1, or 5 in 1 coffee; people drink it. However, the production of coffee is not simple. First, the coffee beans are grown and ripe, and then they are harvested. These coffee beans need to be roasted in order to make a coffee beverage. Roasted coffee beans vary in colour and taste. But no matter the strength of the coffee taste, coffee will always be part of our lives. There are many processes before the coffee beans become the coffee that you drink. First, coffee seeds are planted in rich soil in order to grow a good quality coffee plant. The seed will be taken care of for a long period of time until it is fully grown and bears fruit. Once the coffee plant bears fruit, the farmers wait until the fruit is ripe before they start harvesting it. Green coffee beans are then produced. After all the coffee plants have been ripped of their fruits, the farmers will roast all the coffee beans. After they are all roasted in the desired level, coffee beans are grinded into coffee powder. Once pulverized, the resulting raw material will then be packed and is ready to be sold. Roasting coffee is basically to control the flavour that comes out of the beans. Green unroasted coffee beans are smaller and much heavier than a roasted coffee bean. Unroasted coffee bean can also last for years when stored properly and carefully. However, roasted coffee beans are equally needed by people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Gregg s Appliances Case Study Case Study 1 6 Introduction This issue for case study 1 6 is brought to us by Steve Nelson and the company of the Gregg s Appliances, Inc. The HH Gregg Company was founded on April 15, 1955 in Indianapolis by Henry Harold Gregg and his wife. The initial store was an 800 square feet appliance showroom and office. Since then the company has expanded and with that expansion the company needed more and more information technology in order to harness the power of the information they had acquired. But in 2006 the current CIO, Steve Nelson, was facing a deadline. The deadline was the HP, which was Gregg s principal information technology vendor, has chosen to discontinue support for its line of HP 300 mainframe processors. Gregg s relied ... The bonuses to this choice would be lower costs compared to Delphi and Sentra, Gregg s could maintain current business processes and there is limited training required. But the Texas Firm UNIX platform does not move Gregg s to an industry standard and it requires significant development staff time. The other UNIX choice was from Ex ADI costing $4 $5 million. The process for this change would be to hire programmers and re write into a UNIX platform internally. The biggest benefit to this selection was that it allows for phase in implementation, which means no business will be stopped. It is also much cheaper than Delphi and Sentra options. The software will also be high adaptable and customizable and limited training will be required. But this will not move the company to an industry standard and nothing will seem new. There are several big risks when changing important software in a large company. It could lead to a sudden halt of the business during the deployment because of a failed database, a bad internet connection or the inability of staff to input or process orders. The system might not be able to handle the work load. Lastly, there could be an unexpected complete system shutdown. There are also other costs to consider. Along with the implementation and annual maintenance costs outlined in the summary, Nelson Must also consider other costs including: * Training costs * Testing costs * Costs of lost ... • 32. The Slavery Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney 1. Many Americans had expected the practice of slavery to die. Americans were given this impression in relation to decreasing tobacco production due to lack of fertile soil (Foner, 317). However, Americans would be presented with factors that would lead to an expansion in slavery. The expansion of slavery deteriorated already terrible conditions for slaves; slave families would be separated and many female slaves faced imminent forced reproduction with studs or white males. In the 1790 s the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney sparked an increase in cotton production in the South. The cotton gin decreased the labor time it took to pick seeds from the cotton. Slave owners moved or sold their slaves to deep Southern states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American slave holders answered by creating more hardships and suffrage on slaves. While the Northern states experienced a greater impact due to the market revolution the market revolution also impacted slavery expansion. The introduction of new transportation and steam power decreased the time it took to ship goods and improved canal production. As well, goods could now travel up stream. The number of large cities near rivers and lakes increased and economics boomed throughout the country. Due to the market revolution New England experienced an industrial revolution. Work in factories created mass produced items that were previously made at home or bought locally. This changed the American family structure, women were now working in mills. Farmer s daughters worked in the textile mills and boarded nearby. Their leisure time was spent in church or school. Families now had multiple sources of income, incomes would be impacted by the arrival of German and Irish immigrants. Irish immigrants settled in New England and were willing to work unskilled job for low wages, while Germans settled around the North and sought skilled jobs for lower wages. The industrial revolution further alienated the North and South. Southern states did not have the resources to benefit from the revolution. In 1819 Missouri requested through congress to submit a state constitution in order to join the Union. Northern politicians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Speech On Learner Centred Pedagogy Learner centred pedagogy We have been talking about child centred or learner centred pedagogy for the past well over 16 years; but even today our classroom practices mostly remain what they were 25 years ago. Large over crowded classes, ill trained and untrained teachers, poorly equipped classrooms, single teacher schools, and multi grade teaching is some of the stark realities that severely restrict the use of learner centred pedagogy. It is high time that we switch over from teacher centred education to learner centred teaching and learning. Teachers need to be trained and facilitated to handle learner centred pedagogy. Inclusive education Another central concern of teacher education relates to what is known as inclusive or integrated education. Inclusive/integrated education should cover not only children with mild disabilities (who are educable ), but also street children, children from remote and nomadic populations, and children from other disadvantaged and marginalised areas or groups. There is an emerging consensus that children with special educational needs should be included in the educational arrangements made for the majority of children. This is the essence of ... Such subject specific courses in teacher education will provide greater scope and appropriate opportunities to delineate and discern suitable theoretical inputs and conceptualisation in relation to practices in education. • 34. British National Identity Through the Lens of British... Within a few minutes after the ambulance had pulled up to the scene, the paparazzi photographers descended and began to shoot pictures for so called exclusives to be published in the following day s edition of their respective tabloids. One way or another, other journalists and their cameramen found their ways to the tunnel underpass in Paris on August 31, 1997, and the UK as well as the rest of the world received the breaking news that Diana, Princess of Wales, had died that night in a car crash. What was astonishing was not the rapidity of the news that is, after all, the beauty of modern broadcasting technology but the effect that the news had on the public. In the following weeks and months, story after story demonstrated the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And how does the issue of increasing immigration fit in, now that the sun has set on the British Empire (Foa, par.2)? Nowadays, when we think of what is relevantly British, we think of such icons such as the Queen and the royal family, bangers and mash, Blackadder, the Union Jack, the BBC, beer, double decker buses, the class system, football/soccer the list goes on. The reason why these symbols are chosen above other is that they are recognizable all over the United Kingdom as part of some national identity. Every item on that list has a particularity to British culture and therefore to a uniting sense of identity. The media has been instrumental in spreading the popularity of said products, exporting them internationally (the BBC, for instance, and its link into American television with BBC America) as well as promoting them domestically. The British media has contributed to spreading elements of national identity but how has national identity influenced the British media? When it comes to the BBC, it has been closely defined in regards to servicing the British population as a whole, and this common link that everyone is supposed to be able to enjoy serves as yet another facet of national identity. Because of its founding principles of public service broadcasting, the BBC s identity was grounded in the idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. America s Tax Policy Is Not Appropriate For The United... A very controversial topic in today s society is America s tax policy. Currently, there is three different solutions to the current tax system. One is lowering the rate for progressive tax, our current tax system, which is progressively higher tax rate with more income. The second is fair tax, which is where people are only taxed for buying goods, not their income. The most suitable solution, is where everyone is treated fairly and must pay the same percentage of tax; this is known as flat tax. Our current tax policy is not appropriate for the United States of America. The current tax system is named progressive tax. Progressive tax is established off the people who make more money pay more in taxes while the people who make less money pay less in taxes. This system does not fit in well with today s society because the more compensated are charged much more than the less compensated, the top 1% of taxpayers have consistently paid more in federal income taxes than the bottom 90% since 2003 and that share has increased almost every year since 1980 (Phillips). Having the top 1% of taxpayers pay more than the super majority of the country is extraordinarily unfair to the 1%. A main principle of the United States is equality, so the tax policy should be more equal. With flat tax enacted every person would be paying the identical percentage of tax. With this in mind, it is not exactly equal, but very close. On the flip side, it does give the lower income people a break while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Example: Soviet Union And in federation, powers are formally divided and there are two authorities: central and local. It is usually divided by means of a constitution. Each state has power of some management of its internal affairs. Example: Germany And in unitary system, like in England, there are local governments but their powers are granted by central government. Example: China What are the advantages and disadvantages of these systems? Advantages and Disadvantages of Confederation Since the local governments are more powerful tyranny is almost impossible. Government is closer to its citizens. It can easily find solutions to its citizens problems. A confederation can split apart easily. Lack of central authority can cause problems while handling the issue of currency, international treaties, or maintenance of an army. Advantages and Disadvantages of Unitary Government Power is not shared. Law is for all people and it is not contradictory because there is one government which is responsible for making and enforcing laws. It is efficient and it saves time since there is one national government in control.

  • 38. Buddhist Doctrine Of Karma Essay example The Buddhist doctrine of karma ( quot;deeds quot;, quot;actions quot;), and the closely related doctrine of rebirth, are perhaps the best known, and often the least understood, of Buddhist doctrines. The matter is complicated by the fact that the other Indian religious traditions of Hinduism and Jainism have their own theories of Karma and Reincarnation. It is in fact the Hindu versions that are better known in the West. The Buddhist theory of karma and rebirth are quite distinct from their other Indian counterparts. In Buddhism the law of karma is the moral law of causation good actions give good results and vice versa. It is the quality of an act, which determines its consequences. But what determines the karmic quality of a deed? In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Buddhist theory of rebirth asserts that the fruits of some karma may manifest themselves in quot;future lives quot;. This brings us to the Buddhist theory of rebirth. Similar concepts occur in other religious systems e.g. the Platonic theory of the quot;pre existence of the soul quot; and the Hindu Jain theory of re incarnation. Such reincarnation theory involves the transmigration of a soul. In Buddhism, however, it is the unripened karmic acts outstanding at the death of an individual, which conditions a new birth. The last moment of consciousness too is also a conditioning factor, but it is the store of unripened karma generated by volitional acts (the sankhâras) of previous existences which generates the destiny of the new individual. A newly born individual needs not only the genetic blueprint derived from the genes of the natural parents, but also a karmic blueprint derived from the volitional acts of a deceased person. The question has been posed whether the new individual is the same as the old individual whose karma it has inherited. The Buddha s answer to this question was somewhat enigmatic: quot;It is not the same, yet it is not another quot; (na ca so, na ca añño). To understand the Buddha s reply we have to investigate the criteria, which establish personal identity. Is the child the same as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
