The Research Process on a Project
The Research Process: The research process went well, I felt like it was easier than most
research projects. I found the project more preferable to a traditional research paper. I feel like it
is a better alternative because it gave us time to really research and give good connections. I ended
up learning more from the primary connections because I put more into my research. I felt like the
secondary connections was not as informative because I was researching connections that
someone else had already made but with the primary I had more possibilities to really learn. I
felt like there were less restraints on what I could connect the author to. With this project I learned
that it is not a simple as just typing an author s name into a search bar, I found out that you have
to dig deeper than that. I started my research on Wikipedia and then I would look at the sources
Wiki used and get my research from there.
Procedure:
The procedure of the project went well. I liked working individually, that way I am the only one
to blame for my grade. With group assignments there is always the chance of getting a not so
helpful group or the lazy partner. This just leads to frustration for the student that really worked
for the grade. As a student I feel cheated if a partner or group member gets a good grade without
really putting the effort into the project. If each student had more deadlines for the project they
would work harder on it and the research would be more thought

Animal Imagery in the Wars Essays
The abundant animal imagery in Timothy Findley s book The Wars is used to develop
characterization and theme. The protagonist, Robert Ross, has a deep connection with animals that
reflects his personality and the situations that he faces. This link between Robert and the animals
shows the reader that human nature is not much different than animal nature.
The animals in this story are closely related to the characters, especially the character of Robert.
Rodwell acknowledges Robert s close union with animals when he draws Robert in his sketchbook
as the only human form among sketches of animals (155). When Robert sees the drawing, he
notices that the shading [is] not quite human ; it is a combination of animal and human qualities, ...

Birds appear frequently throughout the story, especially in times of crisis. The birds often
present themselves as omens for dangers that lie ahead. For instance, when Robert s team takes
a wrong turn, the fog is full of noises of birds (80). Then the birds fly out of the ditch and
disappear. Robert and Poole know that [t]here must be something terribly wrong...but neither one
knew how to put it into words. The birds, being gone, had taken some mysterious presence with
them. There was an awful sense of void as if the world had been emptied (81). The birds return
and when Robert nears the collapsing dike, one of the birds [flies] up and cut[s] across Robert s
path as if it is trying to prevent him from going any further. Robert does not heed the warning and
almost dies in the sinking mud.
Another ominous bird appears when Robert and his crew are close to enemy lines. A bird sings
and Robert looks up to see the deadly gas easing towards them. He is able to react quickly and
save most of his crew. Soon after, the same bird sings again, one long note descending; three that
[waver] (142). Then Robert sees the German soldier whom he ends up killing when he thinks that
the man is reaching for a gun. Robert realizes that the German was only reaching for his
binoculars, even though there is a sniper rifle sitting right beside him. He wonders why the man did
not kill them all, and then he hears the bird sing once again, its song wavering on the

Critical Assessment Of An Essay
Critical Assessment
When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own
organic living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can
review itself and correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can
occur as many times as possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able
to look objectively at their essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The
capability to adequately evaluate and reflect upon one s essay is what separates the good essays
from the superb ones. The essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis
statement, lively transitional wording, and impactful verb choices.
While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential
criteria. It was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage
the reader. It was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with
direction for the rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay
because it was difficult to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the
paper had close to zero transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and
forced. This resulted in an essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to
process. The reason for having transitional words

Global Warming Issues
In late 2012, the Wall Street Journal published an article written and supported by sixteen scientists
called, No Need to Panic About Global Warming. The article s main argument claimed mainstream
climate experts were wrong about the effect greater carbon dioxide levels had on the environment
as well as the threat global warmingposed to society. The contrarian scientists attempted to refute
mainstream scientific findings that carbon dioxidelevels were rising rapidly throughout the past
decade and that carbon dioxide itself was a pollutant. The dissenting scientists claimed that influxes
of CO2 throughout the earth s atmosphere over time has actually been beneficial to the
environment and that global warming is not the impending threat... Show more content on

Adversaries even likened the op ed researchers climate science equivalency to that of dentists
practicing cardiology. (Trenberth) Mainstream scientists found the contrarian authors lack of
credibility was most prominently portrayed through their argument which completely
misrepresented the majority consensus on climate change research and the overall field of climate
science. In the op ed, the climate science field was portrayed as faction of notable scientists with
varying views on the extent and risk of global warming but that contrarian opinions, that wouldn t
conform to the alarmist majority, were silenced by scientists who hyperbolized global warming s
threats to society. Mainstream climate scientists saw this as a crude misrepresentation of their field
and hit back with the fact that at the time, among climate experts, there was a general consensus of
over 97% that global warming was anthropogenic as well as an imminent threat to human and
environmental wellness.(Trenberth) They went on to claim that the journal s severe distortion of
the field of climate research was misinforming the public by publicizing, and at times even praising
outlandish accusations by minority dissenting scientists. Many researchers and public officials
were angered by the paper s misrepresentations arguing the Wall Street Journal was simply fueling

The Regulation And Supervision Of The European Union ( Eu )
Chapter 2
Historical amendments of the CRA III
CRA I
The regulation and supervision of the CRAs in the European Union (EU) have become an
increasingly prominent realm of European financial market regulation since the aftermath of the
financial crisis. The CRA regulation is to be considered the fundamental legal act on which the EU
s regulation on CRAs is built.
The CRA I requires the registration of a credit rating agency and supervision of the EU CRAs to be
performed by competent authorities of the Member state holding the office of the relevant CRA. In
order to protect the investors and to maintain a stable financial system only the ratings issued by
such CRAs or the ones satisfying the criteria laid under the regulation or which hold ... Show more

Subject to these conditions the regulation allows the financial institutions in the EU to rely on
ratings issued by non EU registered CRAs for regulatory purposes provided the rating derives from
a regulatory regime endorsed by EU registered CRA. The rating activities of the non EU CRAs to
comply with the requirement of the regulation is determined by the endorsing agency however the
regulation provides that the endorsement must not be used to avoid the regulation.
Furthermore, in order to cater for systemically unimportant CRAs for the financial stability of
markets of one or more member state, a special certification regime for non EU agencies with no
presence in EU is also established under the regulation. The effect of such certification enables
ratings issued by such agencies to be used for the purpose of regulation by financial institutions
within the community without the need for endorsement subject to conditions under Art 5(6)
which also confers the power to the commission if necessary to amend the criteria for determining
the equivalence of the regulatory and supervisory framework established outside of EU to those
established by the regulation. The regulation also requires the facilitator to establish between
competent authorities of member state and those of third country CRAs an arrangement for
information exchange and supervisory coordination.

Sojourner Truth s Essay Ain T I A Women
Throughout all of these speeches there was one idea and that idea was freedom amongst all. At
this time it was hard for certain people to get the freedom and equality they deserved. Each
speaker gave their own opinions towards how they feel about the roles women play like how
they get treated, and how they should be looked at, and if they should be granted the same rights
as men, and in reality they should be allowed the same rights I mean no matter what their gender
is they are still human. Which shows that women are just as important as men, they should have
the same rights as men and should be able to work and voice their opinions. They should be able

period of time. In the aftermath of the short merger dragons and the host of mythical creatures left
behind did war with the worlds armies, destroying vast swathes of land, while other countries were
destroyed with nary a gunshot, due to the power and versatility of magic. While some guns and
advanced technology survived, most of it was lost as weapon caches and nuclear arsenals detonated,

The Influences Of Martial Culture
3.The influences of the martial culture in the Northern Dynasty 3.1 Ensured the fighting capacity,
and also shaped a valiant spirit The militarism in the Northern Dynasties contributed to the generally
good physical quality of the people, and made the military have sufficient source to recruit from.
And the atmosphere reacted to the social culture. That is a big advantange compared to the
Southern Dynasties. The latter put too much importance in the metaphysics. Even the emperor of
the Southern Dynasty couldn t ride a horse to run for his life, which led to the failure of their war.
3.2 Promoted the communication between different people and the regional integration The
enhanced communication occurred not only between minorities but also between the Han
nationality and the minorities. According to the landscape, Longxi has been a mixture of Hu and
Han nationalities, especially in the Northern Dynasty. With the amalgamation of different
nationalities, mutual influence of customs went deep. The archery of the Hu influenced the Han
much. Under that historical context, with wars seemed to be endless, the relationships between the
nationalities tend to oscillate in different situation. For one thing, the sports culture brought about
by the minorities, such as archery, wrestling, weightlifting, swing, expanded them since the ruling
class was the minorities. For another, the Han cultures had their own infiltration when it comes to
the sports culture. In the study of the two

John Wilkes Booth, The Killer And His Plans Essay
The book essentially goes over Lincoln s killer and his plans and what his thoughts were before,
during and after the shooting of President Lincoln. It is a book that mainly focuses on John
Wilkes Booth , the killer, and his plans and how it panned out. John Wilkes Booth was an actor
and lived a wealthy life, he was someone who was considered very handsome by many and
someone with fine clothes. His tactics per se were not well planned out. John Wilkes Boothhad tried
to kidnap President Lincoln before, but he failed to do so he planned on bringing Lincoln to the
South and demanding peace, Boothe had recently heard about the appearance the Lincolns would
be given at the Ford s theatre, he knew the Lincoln s would have a box inside the theatre where
he would sit . Although he committed the act of assassinating President Lincoln he did not plan
on how he was going to get through to him,the obstacles he would have to overcome, he just
knew he would do whatever he needed to do to get the task done. Booth was someone who did not
like Lincoln s plans for America, especially the south. He yelled The South is avenged after killing
the president of the United States. Not only were his thoughts on ending the President but also the
Vice President and the Secretary of State because of what they stood for.

Wild Bill Hickock was an Outlaw of the Old West
James Butler Hickock, also known as Wild Bill Hickock, was born in Homer, Illinois (now
Troye Grove, Illinois) on May 27, 1837. He was an outlaw of the American Old West. He was a
skilled gunfighter, gambler, and lawman, which are some of the many reasons why he is
famous. Hickock was born and raised on a farm in Illinois. He went west at the age of 18 in 1855
first working as a stagecoach driver, then as a lawman in Kansas and Nebraska. While in
Nebraska, Hickok was often called Duck Bill . He grew a mustache and began referring to
himself as Wild Bill . He fought and spied for the Union Army during the American Civil War.

In 1860, he was seriously injured by a bear while driving a freight team from Missouri to Texas.
He found the road they were taking blocked by a Cinnamon bear and its two cubs. He
dismounted and approached the bear. He shot it in the head, but the bullet ricocheted from its
skull. The bear attacked, crushing him with its body. Hickock slashed its throat with a knife.

The Slave Ship Turner Analysis
Man holds the power of choice. We are gifted the power to control ourselves, which can be
extended to control others. Brit Joseph Mallord William Turner channeled his unique power
through a paintbrush, globally inspiring others through his landscapist compositions. Turner s The
Slave Ship, originally titled Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying Typhon coming on,
immediately captivates me with its meticulously placed oranges, reds, browns, and blues. Yet, my
intrigue in mysteries and puzzles is piqued by the deeper meanings hidden in the murky ocean
waves where slaves and sea creatures clash. These facets, combined with the historical basis, form
an emotion stirring Romantic oil painting. Through its purposeful use of warm and... Show more

These images pull at our insides to incite change based on feelings of disgust and horror that the
painting invokes. The ship, placed at mid level in the painting, still draws the viewer s attention, but
does not invoke the same amount of sympathy. Yet, these conflicting points are relatively miniscule
compared to the power of nature. This further points to the helplessness of human beings,
regardless of race, in the face of nature, as nature triumphs over the greatest perceived powers of
man. Man, being a part of nature though, contributes to the panoramic view of nature as a whole;
there is beauty, horror, peace, chaos. Turner s The Slave Ship effectively encompasses all of these
facets, revealing nature as multitudinous and all encompassing.
The Slave Ship evokes cries, pleas, shouts, moans, and hurts. The indistinct brushstrokes reflect the
overall ambiguity of the world and the extent to which our imaginations act. Yet, sufferings of any
kind are reality. But, rising movements inspire actions seeking amelioration. Regardless of the good
or evil qualities of humans, we are all subject to something greater, something that minimizes our
actual size in proportion to the beauty, disaster, and chaos of the sundry universe. We all have the
power to influence the universe, but the universe maintains power

The Consequences Of King Henry VIII
King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that
Henry wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what
the costs were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against
Catholics theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous
king for all of the wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular
during Henry s reign, that a rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives,
divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, but what was the real reason Henry
decided to divorce, and sometimes behead, his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives
because they cheated him in the relationship, they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or
the marriagewas not a valid one. But in all actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out
of the relationship that would benefit himself or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not
provide what he wanted and needed, he would divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic
was shown through his first wife Queen Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio
wrote about the King s personal marriage situation to Queen Katherine, known as The King s
Matter. Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King
Henry privately came to him asking about an annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry
for four hours discussing two matters. The first was why Henry should not go through with the
annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine. Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an
annulment because it would only start trouble within the country because it would look scandalous.
Campeggio stated, I exhorted him not to attempt this matter, in order to confirm and clear his
conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to avoid scandals. Campeggio also
suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and Henry should worry about
more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did Campeggio know, annulling Henry
s marriage to Queen Katherine was

Lucius Cornelius Sulla Essay
Lucius Cornelius Sulla From a rather humble beginning Lucius Cornelius Sulla rose to become
a great politician and a powerful general in the Roman Republic. As a general, Sulla lead Roman
armies to many victories. As a politician he became a powerful dictator and yet was responsible
for bringing about many reforms. This essay will prove how he was a great dictator, politician
and general, through discussing his background, his military and political career, his dictatorship,
and his accomplishments in his later years. Sulla was born near Rome, into a politically
unimportant patrician family in 138 B.C. He received a good education and lived a normal life.

The following year Sulla ran and was elected as praetor, the second highest position in the
Roman republic. After his term of praetor was up, he returned to the battle field. This time it was
against Mithridates, King of Pontus. Sulla did not have a full army with him so he had to
recruit soldiers from Roman allies. His ability to get these soldiers and to push Mithridates back,
shows his great military skills. This campaign was also important because it brought Rome into
contact with the powerful Parthia Empire. He was able to arrange a treaty with Parthia, which
was a milestone for Sulla. This would not be the last time he would meet Mithridates in battle.
Soon Sulla and Marius again had to forget there many differences to defend Rome against Allied
Italian forces who had declared war on Rome. They had set up their own government and were
preparing to become an independent nation. This war was known as the Social War because the
Latin name for Roman allies was socii. It was ended by a more important conflict, the invasion of
a Roman province in Asia Minor by Mithridates. The Romans and the Italians signed a peace
treaty in 89 B.C. Soon the main focus for Rome was Mithridates of Pontus in the east. In 88 B.C.
Sulla was elected consul. The Senate also named him commander of the forces against Mithridates.
Marius had wanted this command for himself. After Sulla left Rome Marius convinced the people s
assembly to give him

Examples Of Pathos In Advertising
The Image of Happiness through Music In the world today, consumers are exposed to hundreds
of advertisements and persuasive messages a day (Kumar 155). Many are blocked out or nearly
not remembered. However there are a few things advertisers can do to create something
memorable in their advertisements. Well remembered advertisements typically appeal to one of
Aristotle s three appeals, ethos, logos, or pathos. In the two commercials focused on in this essay
the primary appeals in use is pathos and ethos. This shapes our cultures ideas about what it means
to be happy because it is a materialistic good that is trying to sell an individual on something that
produces the sound of what many consider happiness, music.

Williams (again), etc throughout the advertisement. This commercial also takes the viewer
through several situations that one may need their product for. These situations may include
dancing around your apartment eating food, playing basketball and other forms of exercise,
being on an airplane, holding your baby...or your dog, and so much more. All of these actions
are being performed by some sort of celebrity figure, but none are out of the blue for what
ordinary people do within their day. They are using ethos and pathos by having the viewer see all
these celebrity figures doing ordinary everyday life things. This causes the viewer to make more of
a personal connection emotionally to the product while at the same time putting trust into it
because all these celebrities, with money, trust it too. The commercial ends by paralleling the

Physics of Boating Essay
The first thing you should know is the physics behind a boat, seeing how you can t have a boating
adventure without one. To keep it simple, let s check out the main thing you should know about a
boat: Buoyancy. Buoyancy, by definition, is the upward force exerted by a liquid on any
immersed object. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the
liquid then the object will float. In other words buoyancyis dependent upon the density of the liquid
and the volume of the object submerged.
Buoyancy:
Fb= d*g*V
Where Fb= the magnitude of the buoyant force
d= density of the liquid, g= force of gravity (9.8 m/s^2), V= volume of the submerged object
All object displace fluid when in a liquid, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
237) Translation: The tides are caused by the gravitational attraction between the earth and moon.
There are two low tides and two high tides each day. Low tide is when you smell dead fish. High
tide is when the smell is somewhat less stinky.
The bald eagle is not an uncommon sight when boating in Southeast Alaska. It is a massive bird
that flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind
the flight of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes
over or under the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over
the top of the wing has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the
pressure to drop because the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area.
Therefore, any given point experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up.
Meanwhile the air going below the wing experiences the opposite effect. It slows down, generates
more pressure and effectively pushes the wing up. Hence a bird with air moving over its wings is
pulled up from above and pushed up from below.

The American Football Club History
Even for a club based in the Cradle of Football , Everton s history is startling. In their 138 years
of existence, they have spent only four years outside the top flight of English football. During this
time, they have won nine League titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 Cup Winners Cup. Since 1892,
the club has been playing its home games at Goodison Park, the first major football stadium in
England.
Having been founded in 1878, Everton quickly emerged as one of the top football clubs of its era.
They were among the twelve founding members of the Football League, the first professional
football competition in the world. Their first taste of silverware came in 1891, with the club

The post war period was far less kind to the club, which initially struggled to rediscover their
earlier form. Their fortunes changed with the appointment of Harry Catterick as manager in 1961;
under his authoritative presence, Everton claimed another League title in 1963. In 1966, they came
from 2 0 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cupfinal. The club won their seventh League
title in 1970, but the rest of the decade was a fairly disappointing affair, mostly due to their arch
rivals Liverpool dominating the domestic competitions.
Everton s final claim to fame came in the mid 80s, with Howard Kendall taking over managerial
duties. Having won the 1984 FA Cup, the club won its first Double the following year; after
claiming a League title, they won the Cup Winners Cup by defeating Rapid Wien 3 1 in the final.
Under Kendall, the club would win their ninth (and as of yet, final) League title in 1987, with the
Heysel tragedy preventing them from competing for European trophies.
The club was far less fortunate in the Premier League era, with the 1995 FA Cup being their only

The Two X Linked Inheritence
X Linked Inheritence
The topic which is assogned to me is X linked inhertance that is a pattern of inheritance in which
the spread of traits differentiate according to the sex of the individual because the genes which are
present on the X chromosome have no counterparts on the Y chromosome. The inheritance pattern
can be recessive or dominant. The trait firm by a gene on the X chromosome is always expressed in
males.Because we know that males only d have one X chrmosome whichever the disease related to
it will express itself in the individual. Transmission from father to son does not occur. There are
two Kinds of X linked inheritance are X linked dominant inheritance and X linked recessive
inheritance.
1 X Linked Recessive Inheritance
Now lets us we some breif explanation of X linked recessive inheritance. it is a mode of inheritance
in which a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome causes the phenotype to be articulated in males
(who are necessarily hemizygous for the gene mutation because they have only one X chromosome)

Federalism and the Triad of Powers in America
When problems arise in our nation, we are left with a complicated crisis as to whose job it is to
do what and who exactly should be taking care of any bad situation that seems to pop up with daily
life anywhere in the world, but in this case, America. Certain governmental systems, such as
Federalism, can be considered a solution to these crises. Federalismcan be defined as the
relationship between the individual state governments of America and the national or federal
governmentof the United States; and works to balance the power of a large central government,
and the power of the smaller regional governments. Federalism is defined in our book as: the
relationship between the centralized national government and the individual state governments
(Berman and Murphy 92). Federalism is a very important government system that is frequently
discussed and argued, even today. The topic of federalism has become a topic of argument
because many people believe the federal government should have more power, and yet some other
people believe the states should have most of the power. One of the ways that federalism is in our
government is in our Congress, and indirectly through Congress to the difference in laws between
the states. We can look at all the different speed limits in all of the individual states; they are not all
the same. This is because the residents of any certain state and the representatives of that state can
choose whatever they deem fit to set as limits. Another

Effective Leadership Analysis
Having effective leadership helps to establish a clear direction for the organization.
Communicating by conveying a compelling vision in writing, speaking, and presenting helps to
keep everything organized (Duggan 2015). These leaders help to motivate and inspire their
subordinates to take action for different, while enabling transitions and transformations. There are
a couple of aspects that could be compared and contrasted between leaders and managers. These
aspects are vision and change. Effective leaders are able to define what their vision is and know
exactly how to motivate their subordinates. This can take place during meetings or even through
newsletters. These type of people are able to show a means of empathy, integrity, assertiveness,...

Natural Gas Must Be A Hydrocarbon Fuel
Although natural gas could be a hydrocarbon fuel, the global warming emissions from its
combustion are much lower than oil.
Natural gas emits 50 to 60 % less greenhouse gas. Considering only tailpipe emissions, natural gas
additionally emits 15 to 20 % less heat trapping gases than oil when burned in today s typical
vehicle
Emissions from smokestacks and tailpipes, however, don t tell the complete story.
The drilling and extraction of natural gas from wells and its transportation in pipelines, ends up in
the leakage of methane, a way more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide. Preliminary
studies and field measurements show that these questionable fugitive methane emissions vary from
1 to 9 % of total life cycle emissions.
Whether natural gas has lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions than oil depends on the assumed
leakage rate, the global warming potential of methane over different time frames, the energy
conversion efficiency, and different factors
Cleaner burning than different fossil fuels, the combustion of natural gas produces negligible
amounts of sulfur, mercury, and particulates. Burning natural gas will manufacture nitrogen oxides,
that are precursors to smog, however at lower levels than oil and diesel used for motorcars.
However, despite these advantages, unconventional gas development will have an effect on native
and regional air quality. Some areas where drilling happens have experienced increases in
concentrations of unsafe air pollutants

What Is The Irony In The Convergence Of The Twain
The Convergence of Twain In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Convergence of the Twain , the speaker
depicts the sinking of the Titanic as a natural occurrence. He addresses the situation with a
nonchalant voice, displaying the unemotional view of this tragically well known event. Since the
title of the poem conveys a message of peace, it exhibits irony because a majority of the literature
written about the Titanic is violent and passionate. Ultimately, the speaker employs multiple poetic
devices to convey his emotionless, innate attitude toward the sinking of the ship. The poem opens
up with a description of the Titanic and the people aboard it. The speaker includes strong imagery
to illustrate the elite life as well as the personal items that

The Social Responsibility Of Business
In his paper titled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Its Profits , Milton
Friedman addresses the key issue of weighing social responsibility against profit maximization for
shareholders. This conflict is the basis for Friedman s whole paper, as he explores the two sides of
the situation. In order to set up his argument, Friedman lays down a framework by explicitly stating
a certain premise. This is that businessman view social responsibilityand profit as not being
mutually exclusive. In other words, the majority of businessman believe that they can operate a
socially responsible operation, while still optimizing profits in the long run. Friedman argues in
favor of this viewpoint by making a claim and providing a solid line of reasoning to support his
claim. Friedman s main claim in this paper is that corporate executives must conduct business
with the aim to satisfy the desires and wishes of shareholders. He says that often the principal
desire of shareholders is to maximize profits for the company, while still conforming to the rules
of society. These rules can be purely legal, but can also be ethical and moral rules that are
imposed by society. Friedman argues that any social responsibilities that go beyond the scope of
maximizing profits is pure and unadulterated socialism (239). To reinforce his main claim,
Friedman uses a logical flow of reasons that is predicated upon the role of executives and
shareholders. To emphasize his main claim that

War Is The Continuation Of Politics
Humanity has resorted to war as a fundamental way to settle their differences. War, per
Clausewitz is the act of force to compel the enemy to do our will. Sun Tzu believed that war was
to subdue the enemy without fighting. However it is defined, every culture has its motives for why
they go to war and how it should be conducted. Western states attempt to settle their differences by
diplomatic means; when diplomacy fails, war ensues. War is often used as the means to an end and
according to Clausewitz war is the continuation of politics.
The Western way of conducting war is built on five foundation; superior technology, disciplined
soldiers, the means to finance wars, and military traditions. Disciplined soldiers, superior
technology, and the financial means to fund wars are three elements that have defined success and
shaped conflicts throughout Western Civilization. Disciplined soldiers have always been the core
of any effective military strategy based on the employment of tactics and the effectiveness of their
weapons. Superior discipline and training was an integral part of infantry training and the basis for
Western success.
Starting in the sixteen century European states experienced a military revolution that transformed
armies into disciplined and powerful military machines that lay the ground work for world
dominance. Key to this revolution were larger standing armies, increase fortification, tactical
innovations, and gunpower weapons which led

Customers may consider to not purchase our product first until their income is stable.
Below is a graph on Malaysia s inflation rate
(International Monetary Fund 2011 World Economic Outlook)
In year 2010 the inflation rate in Malaysia has increase to 1.7% from 0.6% in 2009. Irobot is
hoping the inflation to decrease in 2011 and 2012.
Increased fuel price
The current increased price in fuel since 2 years causes irobot Company to have a slightly lower
profit margin as now we have to increase our fuel expenses.
For every litre of RON 95, the actual price is RM2.75, and the price of RM1.90 at the pump
translates to a subsidy of 85 sen, or 31% of the actual price. (Anthony, 6 October 2011)

The Pros And Cons Of Cultural Appropriation
Cultural appropriation is a crime in 2017. The Kardashian family is constantly under criticism
for cultural appropriation, as KhloГ© Kardashian has been accused of appropriating Native
American headdresses, while Kylie Jenner has come under fire more than once for wearing
cornrows. Kendall Jenner s Pepsi commercial, where she quelled a protest by offering a soda to a
police officer, was lambasted as offensive and tone deaf. These are the scenarios that the word
appropriationbrings to mind: privileged young women and cultural insensitivity. In I Can t Stop
Thinking through What Other People are Thinking , David Shields describes a wholly different
cast of appropriators: artists, writers, and composers.
In his essay, Shields unleashes his frustrations regarding the country s negative attitude towards
appropriation and borrowing. He asserts that there s no such thing as originality , that all life on
earth...is built upon appropriation and reuse of the pre existing (Shields 736). Shields utilizes a
multitude of examples to illustrate and support his points. Musicians from Mozart to Bob Dylan
have utilized content or taken inspiration from other artists. Shields shows that borrowing has been
with us from the beginning , citing the New Testament and Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra as
composites of numerous sources (740). His essay demonstrates that borrowing is prevalent in
music and writing, as artists take inspiration from preceding artists and from their

The Impact Of Art In The Gilded Age
Art in general is a form of expression. Individuals use art to express emotions, passion, or make a
statement. Society can have an impact on how an artist chooses to express his or her sentiments.
The beauty of it all is that interpretation is what makes art so unique. The same piece of art can
mean so many different things due to who is looking at it. Just like everything else, art changes
with time. There has been different eras in art that have impacted society as we know it.
The Gilded was a time in history where America was changing. We were going from and
agricultural society to an industrial society. Many people were migrating to this land and cities
were being urbanized. During the gilded age many impactful events came into play as well. The
lightbulb and telephone were invented in this era. It was a time of innovation. Wealth and
flourishing economic growth was generated in the Gilded Age. In 1892 Ellis Island opens up and
six years prior the Statue of liberty had been dedicated. At the same time the farmers did not
prosper and the government was very corrupt as well. The women of the time were still dressed in
Victorian Style attire which sold the point of wealth amongst the public. With all of this happening
around us, it would make sense that art would be impacted by society.
American Art portrayed luxury and wealth in the beginning of the Gilded Age. It took a blind eye

methods of birth control which include: the pill, the patch, and the implant. Another method I will
be talking to you about isn t always considered a form of birth control, but it actually is; condoms.
My goal today is to not only inform you of the many birth controls but to also encourage you to
look at the pros and the cons of every method if you are using contraception. Birth control is a very
broad topic with many alternatives which can impact your lifestyle in many ways, therefore you
should consider these alternatives before applying any form of contraceptive into your body and

The Sacred Space And Sacred Spaces Forged By The Divine
Since their creation, humans have sought to find meaning from the mundane existence of
mortality. This quest for answers has motivated many to seek out the divine and sacred spaces
forged by the divine. Biblical scholar and historian Mircea Eliade argues that, man becomes
aware of the sacred because it manifests itself [and] to designate the act of manifestations of the
sacred [is the] proposed term hierophany (Eliade 1959: 11). In other words, a hierophany exists
when the divine chooses to reveal himself, by defining a space or object as sacred through the
divine s presence. After a hierophany occurs, the chosen object or space is deemed an axis mundi.
Eliade defines axis mundi as, a universal pillar which at once connects and supports heaven and
earth and whose base is fixed in the world below (Eliade 1959: 36). Using a comparative analysis
of biblical texts and scholarly articles, this paper will discuss how a sacred space, specifically
Jerusalem, manifests itself through God s choosing. Therefore Jerusalem is the holy dwelling
place of the divine, because God chose it through his application of multiple hierophanies and his
establishment of axes mundi within the city s walls. Jerusalem as a sacred dwelling place is
reflected though its similarities to the Garden of Eden, where God created the first human beings
on earth. In Genesis 2, God had planted a garden in the east, [and] a river watering the garden
flowed from Eden, there it was separated into four

The problem of social marketing is prevalent in developed countries where government and

depend on individual and parental choices. Children start their consumer journey during their first
years of existence which make them to definitely deserve immense concern as consumers during
this period. Studies show that child marketing of today cannot be compared with that of the past

Such a resolution required only a majority vote in both houses of Congress, which avoided the
necessity for the two thirds Senate majority vote required for treaty ratification (Bender214). The
strategy worked, on March 1, 1845 Lame duck President John Tyler signed the joint Resolution
inviting Texas to join the Union. This was the first of this procedure to acquire a territory. The
issue of whether to admit Texas remained divisive, with opponents of slavery condemning the
admissions of Texas as a territorial grab intended to create a new slave state.
Following the ratification of the treaty, some politicians felt the manifest destiny of the United States
was to annex all of Mexico. The territory gains between 1845 and 1848 were enough to satisfy all
but the most zealous advocates of manifest destiny. John O Sullivan criticized the opponents of
Texas annexation. He went beyond the immediate issue of Texas to argue that it is the fate of
America to grow to encompass much, if not all of the North American continent. O Sullivan is
credited with inventing the term quot;manifest destiny quot; to describe his expansionist views for

The guiding thread Derrida chooses is Levi Strauss opposition between nature and culture. (I am in
parts paraphrasing elements from page 282 В– 287). Derrida writes that Levi Strauss encounters a
scandal, which is the incest prohibition (283). The scandal is in that the prohibition is
simultaneously universal and thus natural, while also at the same time as a system of norms and
interdicts (283): it is cultural. The contradiction encountered by Levi Strauss is that the difference
established in the nature/culture binary opposition is erased or at least questioned. Due to this
erasure of difference the origin of this prohibition becomes unthinkable as the whole of

Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average period

youth have also highly contributed to the creation of what later developed into an ideology. The

Plastic Bags Should be Banned Essay
Five hundred billion used globally and one hundred billion of them end up in U.S. landfills,
taking about one thousand years to decompose, but only 5.2 percent were recycled (Borrud, 2007,
p.75). These are the figures plastic bags have produced every year. Human beings invented plastic
bags for the convenience of carriers and packers. However, just as other great inventions, say,
nuclear energy and biotechnology, plasticbags are causing serious issues like global warming,
environment pollution and energy consumption. They are gradually becoming sword towards
ourselves. In responding to this problem, the city of San Francisco has become the trail blazer to
prohibit non biodegradable plastic bags in its large supermarkets and pharmacies.... Show more

In other words, in this era of high oil prices and energy scarcity, petroleum based bags are costing
considerable natural resources, and ultimately turn them into a huge pile of useless garbage.
Actually, significant energies like fuel, from which ethylene gas is obtained and plastic bags are
made, are nonrenewable, while human beings are still consuming these precious treasures
recklessly. What s more, the plastic bags easily catch wind and blow, causing the difficulty of
confining it to where disposed of (Borrud, 2007, p.75). This leads to the difficulty in recycling,
which hinders the circulation and reuse of the material to a large extent. Moreover, Ross
Mirkarimi, the author of the ban, also notes that the only 1% of the plastic bags in San Francisco
is recycled, in spite of the city s perfect local recycling system ( 100 Billion Reasons, 2007, p.77).
People s poor awareness on energy saving has brought the oil shortage crisis one step further. A
prohibitory edict on petroleum based bags might be a right way out before we ultimately realize
that the last calorie on the earth comes from our body temperature.
Another reason of supporting the prohibition on petroleum based bags is that they are
economically inefficient. Angela Spivey reports the city of New York once suspended their
services in plastic recycling, which

The Psychological Impact of the 2008 Elections
State and local elections create a series of moments that are sometimes stressful for the voters who
are faced with the decision making process that could have a major impact on their lives and their
communities. Selecting and voting for the candidate that holds the values, qualities and opinions
that a voter shares is often not so clear cut. Presidential elections have the potential for creating
even greater stress and anxiety due to the power and control that the voters give to one individual.
Voters have to consider the quality of a sole being that will eventually make decisions that impact
the entire nation, and ultimately every individual citizen. This decision making process for both the
candidates and the voters can be observed from multiple psychological perspectives; ranging from
the social to the psychoanalytic. The 2008 Presidential election, however, presents even more
perspectives due to the candidacy of a well known, strong female and a dynamic and charismatic
African American. In light of the fact that either one of these candidates will constitute a first if
they win the election, many voters may be influenced by a number of psychological perspectives
as Election Day approaches. From past presidential elections it is has been demonstrated that both
female candidates and those of African American decent have been viewed as the under dog in

Effects Of Lower Oil Prices On Canada s Economic Activity
Literature Review
Effects of Lower Oil Prices on Canada s Economic Activity
Consumer Price Index
Falling oil prices leads to a fall in the price of gasoline which is derived from oil. Subsequently,
consumption of gasoline rises as Canadians benefit from lower oil prices. In fact, The Conference
Board of Canada (Bernard 2015)estimates that the average household would save close to $1000
in 2015. This has a direct impact on the Canadian total CPI basket in which gasoline account for
about 5% of total CPI (Bartlett 2014).
# (Bernard 2015) Although lower gasoline and consumer prices should help lift purchasing power
and sustain real household spending, it likely won t be enough to counter the trend of easing
growth in household spending in Canada. Soft employment growth, weak wage gains, the high
level of household debt, easing real estate markets, and the threat of job losses in oil rich
provinces will combine to take some of the steam out of real consumer spending in 2015 even as
overall inflation falls to just 1.2 per cent.
Terms of Trade (ratio of export prices to import prices) The value of the Canadian dollar tends to
moves in tandem with oil prices so as oil prices have been falling recently, so has the value of the
Canadian dollar. A depreciation of the Canadian dollar makes Canadian exports relatively more
competitive in the world market however, as Canadian exports become cheaper relative to its
imports, this negatively affects the Canadian terms of trade. This

significantly broad. The reality TV is a representation of realism or actual aspects in different
forms and modes composing one genre. It is in effect a contrast to imaginary to refer to the
existence world in contrast to the fantasy world. Bignel (2005, P:61) clarified that The artificiality
of the scenario in some reality Tv programmes is countered by their use of non actor participants,
no scripts and a temporal progression which is close to the linear unfolding of lived daily time.

Describe The Four Types Of Weapons In Elizabethan
Elizabethan Era Weapons
,All of mankind s existence has been in thanks for weaponry. From the cavemen to the
Elizabethan Era, weapons have always been by man s side. Nobles, Archers, and Knights have all
used various types of weapons in the Elizabethan Era. From the billhook to the Poleaxe,
Elizabethan Era soldiers have used almost any weapon given to them, and they will fight for their
cause no matter the cost. Foot soldiers were the main men the Elizabethan used during war. Foot
soldiers were the most versatile out of the main four types of soldiers used by Elizabethan.
These soldiers either rode horseback or were on foot, giving them their name, Foot Soldiers .
Foot soldiers mainly used a mace. Foot soldiers used the mace because of it s mobility and also
by the amount of damage it could deal in a single blow. These soldiers were also the most
plentiful of any type of soldier that Elizabethan had at her disposal, but foot soldiers weren t the

Using weapons on horseback made someone a harder target to hit and more deadly on the
battlefield. The most used weapons on horseback were the mace and the poleaxe. The mace was
a metal ball with spikes attached to a chain and rod. It could severely injure or kill anyone with
one hard blow. While the mace was very effective, it was also very cheap to manufacture. So if a
mace broke in combat, it wouldn t make a financial hole into the ruler s pocket. Poleaxes were
also a very effective weapon to use from horseback. It was a long sharpened rod with an axehead
on the top. The poleaxe was long so that a soldier could be up close, but also keep their distance
to protect themselves from the enemy. Poleaxes were primarily used while a knight was mounted
on horseback. Just like the mace, it could do significant damage with just one blow and defend a

Online Dating Changes
Dating has changed drastically since its beginning. In the past it was common in dating for the
young man to court a young lady he was interested for months maybe even before going on a date.
At this time it was common practice for young men and fathers of the woman they were interested
in to make deals about whom their daughters will marry. However, in the past three decades, dating
has become more of a process. When the Internetwas first introduced dating online happened
almost from day one. Even before the Web itself was made, there were bulletin board and
newsgroups that played host to a variety of Internet dating activities. Then personal ads were
created these ads were similar to what was going on in newspapers at the time. People who... Show

Sealed Air Corporation
General Description
Sealed Air Corporation was one of the leading protective packaging companies with a good market
reputation in countries like France, Germany, US and England. The company differentiated itself in
the market with technological innovative leadership and hence the company was the first who
made a new protective packaging product using coated air bubble, AirCap. For ten years, the
company remained successful with its unique AirCap protection packaging product however,
unfortunately the market trends were rapidly changed and the technologically advanced coated
bubble was replaced by the inexpensive and regular uncoated bubble products. The increasing
demand of inexpensive uncoated bubble packaging was a direct threat for ... Show more content on

The current strategy of that time for Sealed Air Corporation was customer orientation and they had
manufactured products according to the needs of the customers regarding packaging. So they
manufactured a number of products including InstaPak foam in place systems. Later on due to the
continuing drop in demand for coated products the company needed to change their strategy and
Hauser proposed to produce low cost uncoated bubbles in a short time with no major capital
investments. Hauser was himself unclear about the marketing plan for the new product because the
launch of new products and the new marketing program would increase the cost to the company
and so the company would be needed to make certain adjustments in its overall policies.
Analysis of the Competitive Structure of the Market
The market of the protective packaging products was divided into two major classes, uncoated
bubbles and coated bubbles. Thus different types of packaging products were Positioning,
Blocking, Bracing, Flexible wraps and Void fill (uncoated bubbles) and AirCap (Coated Bubbles).
In this regard the competitive structure of the market for uncoated bubbles was high with a
number of competitors whereas in the category of coated bubbles, Sealed Air Corporation was the
only producer and market leader and so they offered this product at a premier price.
The customers of all these products were companies and organizations through select distributor

Essay about Comparing The Epic of Gilgamesh with The Odyssey
The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Odyssey both are held in high respect by literature analysts and
historians alike for the characterization of the hero and his companion, the imagery brought to mind
when one of them is read, and the impressive length in relation to the time period it was written in.
The similarities that these two epics share do not end with only those three; in fact, the
comparability of these works extend to even the information on the author and the archetypes used.
However, The Odysseyand The Epic of Gilgameshcontrast from one another in their writing styles,
character details, and main ideas. Both epics weave together a story of a lost man who must find

In these two epics, the major themes are the concept of good versus evil and the conflicts of man
versus man, man versus self, and man versus nature. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the King of
Uruk represented good while Humbaba and the snake represented evil. Compared to The
Odyssey, the Sumerian epic consists of a smaller representation for both good and evil.
Odysseus represented good, but so does his son, Athena, and many of the gods that help him.
Antinous, the rest of the suitors, Polyphemus, Circe, as well as many others were on the evil
side of the equation for this epic. The concept of good versus evil coincides with the conflict of
both man versus man and man versus self. Odysseus and Gilgamesh both engaged in both types
of conflict, but Gilgamesh experienced more of the latter conflict while Odysseus experienced
more of the former. Odysseus s adventures involved more of man versus man conflicts because of
how often he had to fight a physical being. For example, Odysseus and his men blinded
Polyphemus by ramming a hot spear deep into his [Polyphemus] crater eye (qtd. in Prentice Hall
Lit. 992). In addition, Odysseus and his son, Telemachus, had to fight off more than a hundred
suitors near the end of the epic. Gilgamesh had plenty of experiences with man versus man conflict,
such as his first fight with Enkidu, his fight with Humbaba, as well as his arguments with the gods.
However, the man versus self conflict seemed

What It Means to Be an Effective Teacher
Introduction
Teach these boys and girls nothing but Facts. Facts alone are wanted in life. That was the view of
the characters Thomas Gradgrind and Mr M Choakumchild, created by Charles Dickens in his
novel Hard Times, a novel which satirises school teachers who teach nothing but facts and regards
students as little vessels ... ready to have imperial gallons of facts poured into them until they were
full to the brim. Reciting facts for students to absorb is undoubtedly an easy method of teaching,
but is it effective?
This essay attempts to answer the question of what it means to be an effective teacher by examining
in more detail five areas that, when implemented effectively, can help to produce a productive
learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, a teacher needs to decide what is important to learn (Anderson Krathwohl as cited by
Eggen Kauchak, 2010, p.390) and, in order to do this the teacher must have a good understanding
of their student s current knowledge of the topic and their abilities (Whitton et al., 2010). If, as
suggested in paragraph four, the teacher has taken the time to get to know each of their students,
this knowledge will be to hand when it comes to planning the lesson.
Furthermore, as part of the overall lesson plan, an effective teacher will specify the objectives that
are to be achieved, that is, what students should have learnt or be able to do with the information
taught (Whitton et al., 2010). This ensures that the teacher can design their learning activities
effectively, stay on topic and control the momentum of the lesson an important factor in effective
classroom management according to Kounin (as cited by Hurst Cooke, p.232).
The method by which the content will be delivered also has to be considered when planning a
lesson, and variety in delivery is important to offer students different ways in which to learn
(Featherston, 2007). The instructional strategy chosen will vary depending upon the topic, the age
of the students and their prior knowledge, although teachers who want their students to focus on
thinking and reasoning will naturally integrate group work and activities with instruction and

Jean Piaget s Theory Of Childhood Psychology
When you teach a child something, you forever take away his chance of discovering it for
himself. These words were articulated by one of the most influential figures in the area of
childhood intelligence, specifically developmental psychology. Jean Piaget was a Swiss clinical
psychologist who is well known for his work pertaining to child development. Similar to Freud and
Skinner, Piaget believed in order to understand human behavior, you have to start with
understanding how children function, grow and learn. Piaget spent ample years studying the
behaviors and thought processes of children, analyzing the origins and development of intelligence
and how it shapes our current and future behaviors. According to Piaget, intelligence is... Show

Instead, Piaget turned his emotional turmoil surrounding his mother s mental illness into an interest
in psychology, as young as an elementary school student. He excelled all through his school age
years, going above and beyond what was expected of him not only by his teachers but also as a
young scientist. As an undergraduate student, majoring in biology, preparing for his thesis
dissertation on mollusks, Piaget additionally strived to develop a biological theory of knowledge,
which is known today as his theory of genetic epistemology. Through his work, he concluded that
logic is inherent in action and that the roots of logic are therefore to be found in the organization
of action (Brainerd, 1996, p 191). This discovery became the basis of one of his many hypotheses,
stating that even the most complex forms of human reasoning are motor activities carried out on a
symbolic plane.
Piaget s first clinical interaction with children began after his graduation, when he took a job
working at Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon s laboratory, in a Parisian elementary school. His
assigned job was translating a standardized reasoning test, created by Cyril Burt, from English to
French (Brainerd, 1996). Much like his previous years in education, Piaget was not satisfied in
doing only what was expected of him. Due to his own curious nature, Piaget would ask the children
he was testing to explain their reasoning for choosing a particular answer.

  • 2. The Research Process on a Project The Research Process: The research process went well, I felt like it was easier than most research projects. I found the project more preferable to a traditional research paper. I feel like it is a better alternative because it gave us time to really research and give good connections. I ended up learning more from the primary connections because I put more into my research. I felt like the secondary connections was not as informative because I was researching connections that someone else had already made but with the primary I had more possibilities to really learn. I felt like there were less restraints on what I could connect the author to. With this project I learned that it is not a simple as just typing an author s name into a search bar, I found out that you have to dig deeper than that. I started my research on Wikipedia and then I would look at the sources Wiki used and get my research from there. Procedure: The procedure of the project went well. I liked working individually, that way I am the only one to blame for my grade. With group assignments there is always the chance of getting a not so helpful group or the lazy partner. This just leads to frustration for the student that really worked for the grade. As a student I feel cheated if a partner or group member gets a good grade without really putting the effort into the project. If each student had more deadlines for the project they would work harder on it and the research would be more thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Animal Imagery in the Wars Essays The abundant animal imagery in Timothy Findley s book The Wars is used to develop characterization and theme. The protagonist, Robert Ross, has a deep connection with animals that reflects his personality and the situations that he faces. This link between Robert and the animals shows the reader that human nature is not much different than animal nature. The animals in this story are closely related to the characters, especially the character of Robert. Rodwell acknowledges Robert s close union with animals when he draws Robert in his sketchbook as the only human form among sketches of animals (155). When Robert sees the drawing, he notices that the shading [is] not quite human ; it is a combination of animal and human qualities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birds appear frequently throughout the story, especially in times of crisis. The birds often present themselves as omens for dangers that lie ahead. For instance, when Robert s team takes a wrong turn, the fog is full of noises of birds (80). Then the birds fly out of the ditch and disappear. Robert and Poole know that [t]here must be something terribly wrong...but neither one knew how to put it into words. The birds, being gone, had taken some mysterious presence with them. There was an awful sense of void as if the world had been emptied (81). The birds return and when Robert nears the collapsing dike, one of the birds [flies] up and cut[s] across Robert s path as if it is trying to prevent him from going any further. Robert does not heed the warning and almost dies in the sinking mud. Another ominous bird appears when Robert and his crew are close to enemy lines. A bird sings and Robert looks up to see the deadly gas easing towards them. He is able to react quickly and save most of his crew. Soon after, the same bird sings again, one long note descending; three that [waver] (142). Then Robert sees the German soldier whom he ends up killing when he thinks that the man is reaching for a gun. Robert realizes that the German was only reaching for his binoculars, even though there is a sniper rifle sitting right beside him. • 4. Critical Assessment Of An Essay Critical Assessment When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own organic living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can review itself and correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can occur as many times as possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able to look objectively at their essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The capability to adequately evaluate and reflect upon one s essay is what separates the good essays from the superb ones. The essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis statement, lively transitional wording, and impactful verb choices. While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential criteria. It was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage the reader. It was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with direction for the rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay because it was difficult to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the paper had close to zero transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and forced. This resulted in an essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to process. The reason for having transitional words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article s main argument claimed mainstream climate experts were wrong about the effect greater carbon dioxide levels had on the environment as well as the threat global warmingposed to society. The contrarian scientists attempted to refute mainstream scientific findings that carbon dioxidelevels were rising rapidly throughout the past decade and that carbon dioxide itself was a pollutant. In the op ed, the climate science field was portrayed as faction of notable scientists with varying views on the extent and risk of global warming but that contrarian opinions, that wouldn t conform to the alarmist majority, were silenced by scientists who hyperbolized global warming s threats to society. Mainstream climate scientists saw this as a crude misrepresentation of their field and hit back with the fact that at the time, among climate experts, there was a general consensus of over 97% that global warming was anthropogenic as well as an imminent threat to human and environmental wellness.(Trenberth) They went on to claim that the journal s severe distortion of the field of climate research was misinforming the public by publicizing, and at times even praising outlandish accusations by minority dissenting scientists. The Regulation And Supervision Of The European Union ( Eu ) Chapter 2 Historical amendments of the CRA III CRA I The regulation and supervision of the CRAs in the European Union (EU) have become an increasingly prominent realm of European financial market regulation since the aftermath of the financial crisis. The CRA regulation is to be considered the fundamental legal act on which the EU s regulation on CRAs is built. The CRA I requires the registration of a credit rating agency and supervision of the EU CRAs to be performed by competent authorities of the Member state holding the office of the relevant CRA. Subject to these conditions the regulation allows the financial institutions in the EU to rely on ratings issued by non EU registered CRAs for regulatory purposes provided the rating derives from a regulatory regime endorsed by EU registered CRA. Furthermore, in order to cater for systemically unimportant CRAs for the financial stability of markets of one or more member state, a special certification regime for non EU agencies with no presence in EU is also established under the regulation. The effect of such certification enables ratings issued by such agencies to be used for the purpose of regulation by financial institutions within the community without the need for endorsement subject to conditions under Art 5(6) which also confers the power to the commission if necessary to amend the criteria for determining the equivalence of the regulatory and supervisory framework established outside of EU to those established by the regulation. The regulation also requires the facilitator to establish between competent authorities of member state and those of third country CRAs an arrangement for information exchange and supervisory coordination. ... The Influences Of Martial Culture 3.The influences of the martial culture in the Northern Dynasty 3.1 Ensured the fighting capacity, and also shaped a valiant spirit The militarism in the Northern Dynasties contributed to the generally good physical quality of the people, and made the military have sufficient source to recruit from. And the atmosphere reacted to the social culture. That is a big advantange compared to the Southern Dynasties. The latter put too much importance in the metaphysics. Even the emperor of the Southern Dynasty couldn t ride a horse to run for his life, which led to the failure of their war. 3.2 Promoted the communication between different people and the regional integration The enhanced communication occurred not only between minorities but also between the Han nationality and the minorities. According to the landscape, Longxi has been a mixture of Hu and Han nationalities, especially in the Northern Dynasty. With the amalgamation of different nationalities, mutual influence of customs went deep. The archery of the Hu influenced the Han much. Under that historical context, with wars seemed to be endless, the relationships between the nationalities tend to oscillate in different situation. Brit Joseph Mallord William Turner channeled his unique power through a paintbrush, globally inspiring others through his landscapist compositions. Turner s The Slave Ship, originally titled Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying Typhon coming on, immediately captivates me with its meticulously placed oranges, reds, browns, and blues. Yet, my intrigue in mysteries and puzzles is piqued by the deeper meanings hidden in the murky ocean waves where slaves and sea creatures clash. The ship, placed at mid level in the painting, still draws the viewer s attention, but does not invoke the same amount of sympathy. Yet, these conflicting points are relatively miniscule compared to the power of nature. This further points to the helplessness of human beings, regardless of race, in the face of nature, as nature triumphs over the greatest perceived powers of man. Man, being a part of nature though, contributes to the panoramic view of nature as a whole; there is beauty, horror, peace, chaos. Turner s The Slave Ship effectively encompasses all of these facets, revealing nature as multitudinous and all encompassing. The Slave Ship evokes cries, pleas, shouts, moans, and hurts. The indistinct brushstrokes reflect the overall ambiguity of the world and the extent to which our imaginations act. Yet, sufferings of any kind are reality. But, rising movements inspire actions seeking amelioration. Regardless of the good or evil qualities of humans, we are all subject to something greater, something that minimizes our actual size in proportion to the beauty, disaster, and chaos of the sundry universe. • 14. The Consequences Of King Henry VIII King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that Henry wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what the costs were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against Catholics theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous king for all of the wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular during Henry s reign, that a rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives, divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, but what was the real reason Henry decided to divorce, and sometimes behead, his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives because they cheated him in the relationship, they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or the marriagewas not a valid one. But in all actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out of the relationship that would benefit himself or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not provide what he wanted and needed, he would divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic was shown through his first wife Queen Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio wrote about the King s personal marriage situation to Queen Katherine, known as The King s Matter. Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King Henry privately came to him asking about an annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry for four hours discussing two matters. The first was why Henry should not go through with the annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine. Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an annulment because it would only start trouble within the country because it would look scandalous. Campeggio stated, I exhorted him not to attempt this matter, in order to confirm and clear his conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to avoid scandals. Campeggio also suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and Henry should worry about more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did Campeggio know, annulling Henry s marriage to Queen Katherine was ... As a general, Sulla lead Roman armies to many victories. As a politician he became a powerful dictator and yet was responsible for bringing about many reforms. This essay will prove how he was a great dictator, politician and general, through discussing his background, his military and political career, his dictatorship, and his accomplishments in his later years. The following year Sulla ran and was elected as praetor, the second highest position in the Roman republic. After his term of praetor was up, he returned to the battle field. This time it was against Mithridates, King of Pontus. Sulla did not have a full army with him so he had to recruit soldiers from Roman allies. His ability to get these soldiers and to push Mithridates back, shows his great military skills. This campaign was also important because it brought Rome into contact with the powerful Parthia Empire. He was able to arrange a treaty with Parthia, which was a milestone for Sulla. This would not be the last time he would meet Mithridates in battle. Soon Sulla and Marius again had to forget there many differences to defend Rome against Allied Italian forces who had declared war on Rome. They had set up their own government and were preparing to become an independent nation. This war was known as the Social War because the Latin name for Roman allies was socii. It was ended by a more important conflict, the invasion of a Roman province in Asia Minor by Mithridates. The Romans and the Italians signed a peace treaty in 89 B.C. Soon the main focus for Rome was Mithridates of Pontus in the east. In 88 B.C. Sulla was elected consul. The Senate also named him commander of the forces against Mithridates. Many are blocked out or nearly not remembered. However there are a few things advertisers can do to create something memorable in their advertisements. Well remembered advertisements typically appeal to one of Aristotle s three appeals, ethos, logos, or pathos. In the two commercials focused on in this essay the primary appeals in use is pathos and ethos. All of these actions are being performed by some sort of celebrity figure, but none are out of the blue for what ordinary people do within their day. They are using ethos and pathos by having the viewer see all these celebrity figures doing ordinary everyday life things. To keep it simple, let s check out the main thing you should know about a boat: Buoyancy. Buoyancy, by definition, is the upward force exerted by a liquid on any immersed object. If the force of the liquid on the object is greater than that of the object on the liquid then the object will float. In other words buoyancyis dependent upon the density of the liquid and the volume of the object submerged. Buoyancy: Fb= d*g*V Where Fb= the magnitude of the buoyant force d= density of the liquid, g= force of gravity (9.8 m/s^2), V= volume of the submerged object All object displace fluid when in a liquid, ... Low tide is when you smell dead fish. High tide is when the smell is somewhat less stinky. The bald eagle is not an uncommon sight when boating in Southeast Alaska. It is a massive bird that flies with the greatest of ease. Lets take a look at the casually oversimplified physics behind the flight of a bird. Basically, birds wings are not flat but are shaped like an aerofoil. Air passes over or under the wing as the bird moves forward, or as the wind blows. The air that moves over the top of the wing has further to travel to get across the wing, thus it speeds up. This causes the pressure to drop because the same amount of air is exerting its pressure over a greater area. Therefore, any given point experiences less pressure. This effectively sucks the wing up. In their 138 years of existence, they have spent only four years outside the top flight of English football. During this time, they have won nine League titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 Cup Winners Cup. Since 1892, the club has been playing its home games at Goodison Park, the first major football stadium in England. Having been founded in 1878, Everton quickly emerged as one of the top football clubs of its era. The post war period was far less kind to the club, which initially struggled to rediscover their earlier form. Their fortunes changed with the appointment of Harry Catterick as manager in 1961; under his authoritative presence, Everton claimed another League title in 1963. In 1966, they came from 2 0 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cupfinal. The club won their seventh League title in 1970, but the rest of the decade was a fairly disappointing affair, mostly due to their arch rivals Liverpool dominating the domestic competitions. Everton s final claim to fame came in the mid 80s, with Howard Kendall taking over managerial duties. Having won the 1984 FA Cup, the club won its first Double the following year; after claiming a League title, they won the Cup Winners Cup by defeating Rapid Wien 3 1 in the final. Under Kendall, the club would win their ninth (and as of yet, final) League title in 1987, with the Heysel tragedy preventing them from competing for European trophies. The club was far less fortunate in the Premier League era, with the 1995 FA Cup being their only trophy in the two decades that followed. The Two X Linked Inheritence X Linked Inheritence The topic which is assogned to me is X linked inhertance that is a pattern of inheritance in which the spread of traits differentiate according to the sex of the individual because the genes which are present on the X chromosome have no counterparts on the Y chromosome. The inheritance pattern can be recessive or dominant. The trait firm by a gene on the X chromosome is always expressed in males.Because we know that males only d have one X chrmosome whichever the disease related to it will express itself in the individual. Transmission from father to son does not occur. There are two Kinds of X linked inheritance are X linked dominant inheritance and X linked recessive inheritance. 1 X Linked Recessive Inheritance Now lets us we some breif explanation of X linked recessive inheritance. it is a mode of inheritance in which a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome causes the phenotype to be articulated in males (who are necessarily hemizygous for the gene mutation because they have only one X chromosome) and in females who are homozygous for the gene mutation (i.e., they have a duplicate of the gene mutation on both of their two X chromosomes). X linked inheritance can be expressed as the means that the gene causing the trait or the disorder is present on the X chromosome. Females have two X chromosomes while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Carrier females who contain simply one replica of the mutation do not typically state the phenotype though ... Federalism and the Triad of Powers in America When problems arise in our nation, we are left with a complicated crisis as to whose job it is to do what and who exactly should be taking care of any bad situation that seems to pop up with daily life anywhere in the world, but in this case, America. Certain governmental systems, such as Federalism, can be considered a solution to these crises. Federalismcan be defined as the relationship between the individual state governments of America and the national or federal governmentof the United States; and works to balance the power of a large central government, and the power of the smaller regional governments. Federalism is defined in our book as: the relationship between the centralized national government and the individual state governments (Berman and Murphy 92). Federalism is a very important government system that is frequently discussed and argued, even today. The topic of federalism has become a topic of argument because many people believe the federal government should have more power, and yet some other people believe the states should have most of the power. One of the ways that federalism is in our government is in our Congress, and indirectly through Congress to the difference in laws between the states. We can look at all the different speed limits in all of the individual states; they are not all the same. Natural gas emits 50 to 60 % less greenhouse gas. Considering only tailpipe emissions, natural gas additionally emits 15 to 20 % less heat trapping gases than oil when burned in today s typical vehicle Emissions from smokestacks and tailpipes, however, don t tell the complete story. The drilling and extraction of natural gas from wells and its transportation in pipelines, ends up in the leakage of methane, a way more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide. Preliminary studies and field measurements show that these questionable fugitive methane emissions vary from 1 to 9 % of total life cycle emissions. Whether natural gas has lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions than oil depends on the assumed leakage rate, the global warming potential of methane over different time frames, the energy conversion efficiency, and different factors Cleaner burning than different fossil fuels, the combustion of natural gas produces negligible amounts of sulfur, mercury, and particulates. The Social Responsibility Of Business In his paper titled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Its Profits , Milton Friedman addresses the key issue of weighing social responsibility against profit maximization for shareholders. This conflict is the basis for Friedman s whole paper, as he explores the two sides of the situation. In order to set up his argument, Friedman lays down a framework by explicitly stating a certain premise. This is that businessman view social responsibilityand profit as not being mutually exclusive. In other words, the majority of businessman believe that they can operate a socially responsible operation, while still optimizing profits in the long run. Friedman argues in favor of this viewpoint by making a claim and providing a solid line of reasoning to support his claim. Friedman s main claim in this paper is that corporate executives must conduct business with the aim to satisfy the desires and wishes of shareholders. He says that often the principal desire of shareholders is to maximize profits for the company, while still conforming to the rules of society. These rules can be purely legal, but can also be ethical and moral rules that are imposed by society. Friedman argues that any social responsibilities that go beyond the scope of maximizing profits is pure and unadulterated socialism (239). To reinforce his main claim, Friedman uses a logical flow of reasons that is predicated upon the role of executives and shareholders. To emphasize his main claim that ... Western states attempt to settle their differences by diplomatic means; when diplomacy fails, war ensues. War is often used as the means to an end and according to Clausewitz war is the continuation of politics. The Western way of conducting war is built on five foundation; superior technology, disciplined soldiers, the means to finance wars, and military traditions. Disciplined soldiers, superior technology, and the financial means to fund wars are three elements that have defined success and shaped conflicts throughout Western Civilization. Disciplined soldiers have always been the core of any effective military strategy based on the employment of tactics and the effectiveness of their weapons. This quest for answers has motivated many to seek out the divine and sacred spaces forged by the divine. Biblical scholar and historian Mircea Eliade argues that, man becomes aware of the sacred because it manifests itself [and] to designate the act of manifestations of the sacred [is the] proposed term hierophany (Eliade 1959: 11). In other words, a hierophany exists when the divine chooses to reveal himself, by defining a space or object as sacred through the divine s presence. After a hierophany occurs, the chosen object or space is deemed an axis mundi. Eliade defines axis mundi as, a universal pillar which at once connects and supports heaven and earth and whose base is fixed in the world below (Eliade 1959: 36). Using a comparative analysis of biblical texts and scholarly articles, this paper will discuss how a sacred space, specifically Jerusalem, manifests itself through God s choosing. Therefore Jerusalem is the holy dwelling place of the divine, because God chose it through his application of multiple hierophanies and his establishment of axes mundi within the city s walls. Judgment Case 5 3 Mega should recognize revenue for the initial fee equally over the estimated average period members will continue to be members. Even though the fee is nonrefundable, it is not earned until services are provided. Since there is no contractual period of service, it must be estimated. Mega would be justified in recognizing only $3 of the initial fee immediately to offset the cost of the membership card. The payment option chosen by members does not affect the revenue recognition policy. The monthly fee should be recognized as revenue upon billing, as long as adequate provision is made for possible uncollectible amounts. Parody In The Kite Runner The Scream is an iconic painting drawn in the late 19th century, even if someone is not interested in art, they have seen it more than once; There have been countless parodies of it and references to it in pop culture. Edvard Munch came up with the concept while having a walk with two of his friends while the sun was setting. The sky had turned blood red. He paused in a state of shock and anxiety, and his companions had left him. The painting captures this feeling perfectly. Plastic Bags Should be Banned Essay Five hundred billion used globally and one hundred billion of them end up in U.S. landfills, taking about one thousand years to decompose, but only 5.2 percent were recycled (Borrud, 2007, p.75). These are the figures plastic bags have produced every year. Human beings invented plastic bags for the convenience of carriers and packers. However, just as other great inventions, say, nuclear energy and biotechnology, plasticbags are causing serious issues like global warming, environment pollution and energy consumption. They are gradually becoming sword towards ourselves. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, in this era of high oil prices and energy scarcity, petroleum based bags are costing considerable natural resources, and ultimately turn them into a huge pile of useless garbage. Actually, significant energies like fuel, from which ethylene gas is obtained and plastic bags are made, are nonrenewable, while human beings are still consuming these precious treasures recklessly. What s more, the plastic bags easily catch wind and blow, causing the difficulty of confining it to where disposed of (Borrud, 2007, p.75). This leads to the difficulty in recycling, which hinders the circulation and reuse of the material to a large extent. Moreover, Ross Mirkarimi, the author of the ban, also notes that the only 1% of the plastic bags in San Francisco is recycled, in spite of the city s perfect local recycling system ( 100 Billion Reasons, 2007, p.77). People s poor awareness on energy saving has brought the oil shortage crisis one step further. A prohibitory edict on petroleum based bags might be a right way out before we ultimately realize that the last calorie on the earth comes from our body temperature. The Psychological Impact Of The 2008 Elections Aaron Brown IB psychology 5/20/07 The Psychological Impact of the 2008 Elections State and local elections create a series of moments that are sometimes stressful for the voters who are faced with the decision making process that could have a major impact on their lives and their communities. Selecting and voting for the candidate that holds the values, qualities and opinions that a voter shares is often not so clear cut. Presidential elections have the potential for creating even greater stress and anxiety due to the power and control that the voters give to one individual. Voters have to consider the quality of a sole being that will eventually make decisions that impact the entire nation, and ultimately every individual citizen. This decision making process for both the candidates and the voters can be observed from multiple psychological perspectives; ranging from the social to the psychoanalytic. The 2008 Presidential election, however, presents even more perspectives due to the candidacy of a well known, strong female and a dynamic and charismatic African American. In light of the fact that either one of these candidates will constitute a first if they win the election, many voters may be influenced by a number of psychological perspectives as Election Day approaches. From past presidential elections it is has been demonstrated that both female candidates and those of African American decent have been viewed as the under dog in terms of the ... Effects Of Lower Oil Prices On Canada s Economic Activity Literature Review Effects of Lower Oil Prices on Canada s Economic Activity Consumer Price Index Falling oil prices leads to a fall in the price of gasoline which is derived from oil. Subsequently, consumption of gasoline rises as Canadians benefit from lower oil prices. In fact, The Conference Board of Canada (Bernard 2015)estimates that the average household would save close to $1000 in 2015. This has a direct impact on the Canadian total CPI basket in which gasoline account for about 5% of total CPI (Bartlett 2014). # (Bernard 2015) Although lower gasoline and consumer prices should help lift purchasing power and sustain real household spending, it likely won t be enough to counter the trend of easing growth in household spending in Canada. Soft employment growth, weak wage gains, the high level of household debt, easing real estate markets, and the threat of job losses in oil rich provinces will combine to take some of the steam out of real consumer spending in 2015 even as overall inflation falls to just 1.2 per cent. Terms of Trade (ratio of export prices to import prices) The value of the Canadian dollar tends to moves in tandem with oil prices so as oil prices have been falling recently, so has the value of the Canadian dollar. In these two epics, the major themes are the concept of good versus evil and the conflicts of man versus man, man versus self, and man versus nature. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the King of Uruk represented good while Humbaba and the snake represented evil. Compared to The Odyssey, the Sumerian epic consists of a smaller representation for both good and evil. Odysseus represented good, but so does his son, Athena, and many of the gods that help him. Antinous, the rest of the suitors, Polyphemus, Circe, as well as many others were on the evil side of the equation for this epic. The concept of good versus evil coincides with the conflict of both man versus man and man versus self. Odysseus and Gilgamesh both engaged in both types of conflict, but Gilgamesh experienced more of the latter conflict while Odysseus experienced more of the former. Odysseus s adventures involved more of man versus man conflicts because of how often he had to fight a physical being. For example, Odysseus and his men blinded Polyphemus by ramming a hot spear deep into his [Polyphemus] crater eye (qtd. in Prentice Hall Lit. 992). In addition, Odysseus and his son, Telemachus, had to fight off more than a hundred suitors near the end of the epic. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, a teacher needs to decide what is important to learn (Anderson Krathwohl as cited by Eggen Kauchak, 2010, p.390) and, in order to do this the teacher must have a good understanding of their student s current knowledge of the topic and their abilities (Whitton et al., 2010). If, as suggested in paragraph four, the teacher has taken the time to get to know each of their students, this knowledge will be to hand when it comes to planning the lesson. Furthermore, as part of the overall lesson plan, an effective teacher will specify the objectives that are to be achieved, that is, what students should have learnt or be able to do with the information taught (Whitton et al., 2010). This ensures that the teacher can design their learning activities effectively, stay on topic and control the momentum of the lesson an important factor in effective classroom management according to Kounin (as cited by Hurst Cooke, p.232). The method by which the content will be delivered also has to be considered when planning a lesson, and variety in delivery is important to offer students different ways in which to learn (Featherston, 2007). The instructional strategy chosen will vary depending upon the topic, the age of the students and their prior knowledge, although teachers who want their students to focus on thinking and reasoning will naturally integrate group work and activities with instruction and ... He excelled all through his school age years, going above and beyond what was expected of him not only by his teachers but also as a young scientist. As an undergraduate student, majoring in biology, preparing for his thesis dissertation on mollusks, Piaget additionally strived to develop a biological theory of knowledge, which is known today as his theory of genetic epistemology. Through his work, he concluded that logic is inherent in action and that the roots of logic are therefore to be found in the organization of action (Brainerd, 1996, p 191). This discovery became the basis of one of his many hypotheses, stating that even the most complex forms of human reasoning are motor activities carried out on a symbolic plane. Piaget s first clinical interaction with children began after his graduation, when he took a job working at Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon s laboratory, in a Parisian elementary school. His assigned job was translating a standardized reasoning test, created by Cyril Burt, from English to French (Brainerd, 1996). Much like his previous years in education, Piaget was not satisfied in doing only what was expected of him. Due to his own curious nature, Piaget would ask the children he was testing to explain their reasoning for choosing a particular answer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
