The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA
transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have
health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage,
raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s
largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a
dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the
impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such
projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget
Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million
people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade,
but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal
budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. In this
paper, I will discuss the impact of the ACA in more detail, and describe evidence that sheds light upon
the accuracy of the projections. I begin by reviewing in broad detail the structure of the ACA. The

Anheuser Busch, The Largest Beer Distributing Company Of...
Anheuser Busch is the largest beer distributing company in the world. This is because over the years
dating back to 1852 they have been pioneers in both their product production and distribution. Over
the years they have faced a lot of criticism and setbacks. Most notably during Prohibition from 1920
through the early 1930s. In 2008 they were bought by the European company InBev and currently
hold 49.6% of the market share. Today through the modern era they have also been one of the most
successful companies when it comes to marketing their products.
After World War II, Anheuser Busch entered into a time of prosperity and growth. In 1955, August A.
Busch, Jr. made a personal television appearance to introduce the first successful new beer brand since
Prohibition, Busch Bavarian. To help market the brand, August Jr. tied Busch to America s national
pastime: baseball.
In the 1950s, Anheuser Busch tapped into the growing medium of television and became the first
brewery to sponsor a network television show, The Ken Murray Show, on CBS in 1950. Popular
campaigns, such as Pick a Pair, which urged customers to buy not one but two six packs at a time,
helped make Anheuser Busch the leading U.S. brewer in 1957 a position it retains today.
In the 1970s, advertising featuring memorable slogans helped keep Anheuser Busch s products in the
forefront of consumers minds. Budweiser s 1979 This Bud s for You campaign saluted everyday life,
while late 1970s and early 1980s

Witchcraft Essay
Witchcraft is a fascinating subject that comes out of many regions of the world. There have been time
periods in which witchcraft was a prominent feature in society, and there has been times when it has
died down. One of the most interesting things about witchcraft is how it has physically changed, how
the concept of witchcraft has changed, and how people perceive and view it has changed over
centuries. What many people do not know is that witchcraft is actually still practiced today in the US
and all over the world. After a Religious Identification Survey by the City University of New York in
2001, it was found that Wicca, which is what current day witches call themselves, was the country s
fastest growing religion, with 134,000 people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was largely meant to discourage people for practicing these villainous acts of treachery. The bible
even goes as straightforward as to say Do not practice divination or sorcery (Leviticus 19:26). Many
other primary and secondary sources cite the bible for their argument, in fact arguments are largely
based around them.
An example of using a bible to prove a point is on a website called Harry Potter Power. It is about
witchcraft in terms modern era literature. Many authors such as JK Rowling have written using
heavily influenced witchcraft in their work, and it is essential to the plot of the book. C.S. Lewis has
similar magical stories, but he does not think witchcraft to be good, or valid. He says, People all
across America are being deluged with books on witchcraft. And the situation is going to get worse,
not better. For witchcraft brings you into contact with demons (Harry Potter Power/destroy). One
might think that a website with the name, Harry Potter Power would talk of the power a fantastic book
can imbue someone with, but in reality, the website talks about how books such as

events you feel were most significant in her development of the Montessori Method of education.
Describe how Montessori developed her approach. Include the factors occurring at that time in the
world that contributed to the method s popular acceptance. Education being a necessary part of our

In addition to the isolation, she found she had another problem. She was repelled by the smell of the
anatomy hall. When this became too complicated she tried smoking herself. Due to all these
challenges, her interests turned to pediatrics and psychiatry. This would be the beginning of her
lifelong work with children [4].
After graduating from the University of Rome in 1896, Montessori continued with her research at the
University s psychiatric clinic, and in 1897 she was accepted as a voluntary assistant there. Maria
opened her own medical clinic to treat children. In 1897, she became an assistant doctor at the
psychiatric clinic of the University of Rome. She began visiting asylums for mentally challenged and
handicapped children. Maria observed that the living conditions for these children were miserable.
The patients were kept like prisoners in dark, bare rooms with nothing to stimulate them. She
observed that it was not the medical problem but rather pedagogical one. It was this time when she
came across the work of two French doctors Edward Seguin and Jean Itard s experiments to educate
defective children. Maria observed these children picking up crumbs off of the floor and playing with
them. She realized that the children were using the crumbs as toys. Maria realized that these children
needed a special school that would meet their needs. While working at the asylum, Maria was

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The film American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a film about imprisonment and escape from
imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man
whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost
of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this film
such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, Mendesʼ use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the filmʼs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the audienceʼs
introduction to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, as the film progresses and Lesterʼs relationships evolve, the camera angles also evolve in
reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like Carolyn are shot
in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera angles give Lester a
triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by
film directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as
Mendes (1999) states when referring to Lesterʼs work setting. As Lesterʼs quest for escapement gains
momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this film through subtle
furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with Lesterʼs sexual fantasies. The use of
the vibrant, red rose petal is first introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend Janeʼs cheer
performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his first tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999).
Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion
and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is repeatedly seen throughout the film in
house furnishings such as a bouquet of

The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ
Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand,
and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever
doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive
quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans
today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing
political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed
throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of
compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that
sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that
doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to
acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then
admit that we just don t want to do it. The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs,
therefore we, as His disciples, should be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an
hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me
in (King James Version Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s

gods bits of wood Essay
Sembene Ousmane s novel, Gods Bits of Wood, gives a highly detailed story of the railway strike of
1947 48 in French West Africa. It contains conflicts of political, emotional and moral nature.
Ultimately, Sembene s novel is one of empowerment. It brings to light the tension between colonial
officials and the African community among the railway men as well as the struggle of the African
community to free itself from being subjected to colonial power. Frederick Cooper s article, Our
Strike: Equality, Anticolonial politics and the 1947 48 Railway Strike in French West Africa, helps
reveal the strike s true meaning and agenda by analyzing the conflicts present in Sembene s novel. In
fact, it paints a very different picture of the railway ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Bakayoko meets with French delegates in regards the demands of the strike he
says, That is all I had to say, and I have said it in French so that he would understand me, although I
think this meeting should have been conducted in Ouolof, since that is our language (Sembene 177).
Not only does this statement show Bakayoko s leadership in affairs of the strike, but it reveals
sentiments of the African community that their language needs to be recognized. At that same
meeting, when having to choose the number of delegates to represent the railway men Bakayoko
states, There is no necessity for that. They didn t set any limit on the number of representatives they
would have, we ll all go over together (Sembene 178). Again, Bakayoko is expressing the need for the
railway men to be recognized and that since the French leaders have no limit on the number of
delegates, it is only fair that the railway men not be limited either.
Fa Keita is also looked upon as a man of great importance. His arrest by French militiamen reinforces
this idea. From the beginning of the novel the people constantly look to Fa Keita for direction and
guidance, calling him the old one . At first when he is arrested the other prisoners treat him with must
disrespect, but they realize who he is, and change their attitude greatly. They look upon him for
reassurance that everything with the strike is going well, and that their efforts

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed And Richard Wright s The Library...
Paolo Freire s essay Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Richard Wright s The Library Card both center
around the idea of education. In Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Freire elaborates on the contradictory
student teacher relationship in the banking concept of education and the need for consciousness and
communication within the educational system. He suggests students and teachers should engage in a
more active dialogue in which both parties are learning from each other. In this way, the students gain
consciousness of themselves not only as intellectual beings, but also as beings who contain valuable
and vital knowledge to provide to the teacher. Similarly, in The Library Card, Wright becomes
conscious of his humanity after reading books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this system, knowledge is formed by posing problems of human beings in their relation with the
world that incite critical thinking and thought provoking dialogue between students and teachers
where both parties learn from each other. The students are liberated from oppression and placed at a
level tantamount to the teacher, creating an environment in which the students and the teacher will
only continue to gain more knowledge and truth through dialogue and communication. Freire states,
yet only through communication can human life hold meaning. Transferring that idea to a learning
environment, communication both ways between the student and the teacher is absolutely necessary
for education to mean anything because without communication, there would be no education. In
problem posing education, communication is two sided; therefore, both parties become conscious of
the other as human beings. This allows the expansion of human faculties to be limitless and ever
evolving.
The essential concepts of liberation and oppression that Freire discusses in his essay are reiterated in
The Library Card, a personal narrative by Richard Wright, an African American male. In this story,
Wright discusses his journey of slowly becoming educated and aware of his consciousness and
humanity. Wright states, ...but of feeling something new, of being affected by

Demian Hermann Hesse
In life, everyone is searching for something. Some people search for things like money, love, power,
and fame while others are just simply searching for themselves. Published in 1919, Hermann Hesse s,
Demian, tells the story of an older man s reflection on his childhood. Throughout the novel, main
character Emil Sinclair struggles to find a purpose and meaning for his life. He faces many difficulties
in an attempt to find himself. This is a novel of self discovery and the pursuit of happiness. Because
Hesse displays a power struggle between two elements of binaries, the binaries mirror the struggles
that Sinclair faces and his final acceptance of this. The novel begins with recollections of 10 year old
Sinclair. Hesse illustrates the two realms or worlds that Sinclair is aware of at this age. One world is of
light and one world is of darkness. The world of light consists of everything good, pure, and innocent
while the world of darkness is everything evil, sin and deceit. It was wonderful that here among us
there was peace, order, and repose, duty and a clear conscience, forgiveness and love and wonderful
that all the rest existed, all those noisy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having grown up in the world of light, Sinclair believed in the bible and all things God. This also
means he believed in the Devil. When he enters the dark world, he begins to experience the Devil
more than God for the very first time. This is really hard on Sinclair and he was living as frightened
and tormented as a ghost (Hesse 15). It isn t until he learns about Abraxas that he finally understands
the purpose of these two binaries. But it seems that Abraxas has a much greater significance. We may
look upon the name as that of a deity who had the symbolic task combining the godlike and the
devilish (Hesse 60). Understanding Abraxas and his significance is able to put Sinclair at some peach

The Pros And Cons Of Hypertension
According to CDC (2016), one out of three American adults suffers from hypertension (HTN). This
accounts for about 75 million or 29% of the adult population in the United States. Uncontrolled HTN
is the leading cause of myocardial infarction, chronic kidney diseases (CKD), strokes, and
hypertensive heart diseases (HHD) (CDC, 2016). According to a report from CDC (2016), HTN costs
48.6 billion dollars including health care expenditures, medications and missed days of work.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (2013), among 26,448,196 residents of
Texas, 170.1 death rates related to HHD, 40.1 related to stroke and 15.9 related to CKD consecutively.
AHRQ (2013) health expenditure data demonstrates that the southern region of the United States,
which includes Texas, exceeded the average health expenditure for a hypertensive patient to a cost of
$805 per hypertensive person. Two recent peer review audits of twenty charts at Southmore Medical
Clinic revealed that we were practicing with only a 45% compliance rate with the Joint National
Committee (JNC) 8 guideline recommendations for managing HTN. In Southmore Clinic HTN
management protocol is based on JNC 6 guidelines and HTN parameters are more relaxed due to
patients noncompliance and the physician s laid back attitude. Therefore, the revision of existing
protocol and the aggressive management of HTN is recommended in conjunction with JNC 8
guidelines (see Appendix A for more details). Available

Map Analysis on Education Center in McNabs Island Essays
The main function of these maps is identifying the area that is suitable for building an education center
on McNabs Island. I divided my analysis maps into three parts which are slope and geology,
environment and cultural sites, and microclimate. For the slope and geology map, I combined the
slope, bedrock and surficial geology together because I think all of them can majorly determine and
describe the topography. Bedrock and surficial geology are the materials that are under the ground.
They might form different topography by the geological action including weathering and eroding
processes. Also, the slopes can decide whether the land is a plain or a hill. Furthermore, I think slope
and geology can risk of the environmental hazards like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think it can be the next consideration to think about the land development because human comfort is
important for people to live. For my final synthesis map, I just combined all of the information from
the analysis map except the bedrock geology to show where the best place on McNabs to build the
education center is. The reason that I do not add the bedrock geology because I think the education
center would not be a skyscraper, and it might only have four or five floors height. So, the foundation
might not touch or influence the bedrock. In addition, I add viewing location to my synthesis map.
The reason is that I think the education center is the place to educate and to visit the island. So, a good
viewing location is necessary. From the synthesis map, you can see there are some suitable to

Phantom Limb Pain Research Paper
Phantom Limb Pain: Characteristics, Mechanisms, Treatments
Phantom limb pain is the onset of pain following amputation of a limb. Stump pain and phantom
sensations are also common versions of this phenomenon. Phantom limb sensation includes any type
of feeling besides pain where a body part is absent and stump pain is specifically located in the stump.
All amputees experience some type of phantom feeling, but for some with severe pain it can be very
difficult to treat. The first person to describe this phenomenon was Ambroise Pare in 1552 and the first
person to coin the term phantom limb pain was Silas Weir Mitchell in 1871. Since then there have
been different studies of animals and scientists have discovered that there is a correlation ... Show

missing limb can be explained by afferent nociceptive stimulation of neurons. The awareness of our
self and illusory perceptions might be related to PLP. Because mirror therapy has shown to be
beneficial in the treatment of PLP, it shows that cortical deafferentation plays a key role in phantom

The Honor of Sir Galahad
The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and faithful.
In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be religious, and
be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot and Elaine of
Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir Galahad was shared in
The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad first came to King Arthur s
Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known as a courteous and chivalrous
knight. During the medieval era, chivalry was a very important part of society. ... Show more content

No one else had been able to do that. It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out the
sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and invited
Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral purity by
being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of Galahad s moral purity
and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the King asked him to find the
Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have waited to bring to a close the
adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy than he shall have of us.
(Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show that he pleased the court and
the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including courtliness and moral purity.
These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society. Chivalry
is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in religion, as
well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented chivalry for the
reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for many great
descendants. In the Arthurian stories, Galahad was well known

The Emergence of Appalachian Stereotypes in 19th Century...
In the world of Appalachia, stereotypes are abundant. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy,
bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent,
strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts.
These ideas of mountain life did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational
nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead
and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. These stories, written and told by outsiders,
served very little purpose to Appalachian natives other than means of humiliation and degradation.
They served mostly to convince readers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These proliferated the idea of unkempt and unruly natured people, pastoral, lazy and at the same time
content to remain in a disparagingly hostile existence. These writers and illustrators were often men
who traveled through the mountain regions and spent time with the people there (McNeil, 59). They
were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have them as guests, and treated to
every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. When James Lane Allen, who was a teacher in
Lexington KY for twelve years, decided to change careers in 1885, traveled to New York to become a
writer, while there he was told to find a definite field and explore it for literacy materials. (McNeal,
59) Deciding to return to Kentucky, Allen began publishing his works in magazines in 1886, his work
primarily focusing on Kentucky as two distinct regions, the civilized Bluegrass Region and the rough
Cumberland Mountains. In James Lane Allen s Through Cumberland Gap on Horseback, the mention
is made to the beauty of the land and that the climate was just the same but that traveling to the
mountain region was not only difficult as they had to take a train then a wagon ride, followed by a trek
on horseback, but a lengthy process. Among the experiences recorded Allen describes the meeting of
several locals and this is where his responsibility for Appalachian

Precipitation Of Precipitation
Precipitation Analysis
With an average annual total rainfall of 53.1 inches, the six stations examined and their mean rates of
precipitation are consistent with the claim that the entire state of Florida receives, on average, 54
inches of precipitation annually. Stations like Deland, Inverness, High Springs and Canal Point
differed little from the expected mean, while Marathon Shores and Niceville deviated noticeably. This
deviation, however, is chiefly explained by the stations locations and the patterns of rainfall associated
with those positions. For example, Marathon Shore s aberration is likely due to the fact that the area
received comparatively less rainfall during the summer months of June through September with a
rather low mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deland, Inverness and Canal Point, for example, are situated much closer to the coast when compared
to High Springs, and they exhibit a greater total annual precipitation rate of 53.72 inches as opposed to
High Spring s 52.27 inches and a greater annual monthly mean of 4.48 inches compared to the 4.36
inches of High Springs. While relatively small, this variance among precipitation rates is still great
enough to confirm the claim that most of the time, at least, stations located closer to the coast
experience overall higher mean monthly and mean annual precipitation rates.
Using the data collected solely from the selected six stations, a possible correlation is unclear between
the amount of precipitation received and the number of hurricane strikes within a given area despite
the claim made in the conceptual model. Niceville, for instance, experiences the highest overall mean
monthly and mean annual precipitation of the six stations in addition to experiencing the highest mean
precipitation rate during the specified months of July through October with a mean of 6.68 inches, but
according to the first map provided in the guidance document, it did not experience the highest
number of hurricane strikes. Between the years of 1900 to 2010, Niceville was hit but 10 to 12
hurricanes, but the station that received the least amount of rain both in terms of mean monthly and

Underage Drinking Cause
About 7.7 million Americans between ages 12 20 report current alcohol consumption; this represents
nearly 20% of this age group for whom alcohol consumption is illegal. Among 12 20 year olds,
reported rates of past month consumption, binge drinking and heavy alcohol all declined between
2006 and 2015 (2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health). Underage drinking is a serious
problem in society. Minors think it is cool to go to parties and drink with friends. The consequences of
doing so do not cross a minor s mind until it is too late. Peer pressure, modeling parents behavior, and
curiosity all lead to underage drinking.

There are several causes for underage drinking. Something as simple as a friend allowing another
friend that has not tried alcohol before to have a taste can turn in to underage drinking. In the United
States, 20% of youth aged 12 to 20 years old drink alcohol (National Survey on Drug Use and Health).
Underage drinking increases the risks for alcohol abuse or dependence increases. Youth who start
drinking before age 15 years old are six times more likely to develop alcohol dependence or abuse
later in life than those who begin drinking at or after age 21 years old (Center for Disease Control).
Underage drinking is an eerie thing to think about. It is so real in society and has been for a long time.
Though underage drinking is an active problem, the numbers have declined in recent years. 54%

Anatomy of Criticism Essay example
Anatomy of Criticism Introduction
In his Anatomy of Criticism, Northrop Frye offers a complex theory that aspires to describe a unifying
system for literary criticism. It can be argued, however, that in attempting to delineate such an all
inclusive structure, Frye s system eliminates identity in literature. The present essay takes up this
argument and offers examples of how identity is precluded by Frye s system as outlined in Anatomy
of Criticism. Structure Vs. Identity
In Frye s system, the organizing principles that give literature coherence and structure are derived
from the myths of ancient Greece and the archetypal imagery found in the Bible. In his Third Essay,
Frye suggests that all literature is based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frye completely ignores literature that is outside the Western classics; contemporary literature and
literature from the Oriental traditions, for example, remains outside Frye s scheme, and he makes no
margin whatsoever for including such writings in his theory. This rigid, inflexible system doesn t
allow for literature other than works abstracted from Frye s narrow aggregation of central myths, and
the identity of both the writer and any individual work of literature is lost in Frye s structure. The
Identity of the Reader
In addition to excluding the identity of the writer and of works of literature, Frye s literary schema
also ignores the identity of the reader. In his Polemical Introduction to the Anatomy of Criticism, Frye
argues that [literature] is a disinterested use of words: it does not address a reader directly (p4). It is
only criticism, he says, that can speak. We must dispute this, however, for surely the writer means for
his or her work to converse with the reader in some manner. Frye would remove the reader from the
experiencing of literature, but this is impossible, for there is a constant dialogue between a literary
work and one s individual experience of that work. Frye himself would seem to admit this: The
reading of literature should...step out of the talking world of criticism into the private and

Physics Of X Ray Fluorescence
X Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometry
The JSX 3222 analyzer is an energy dispersive fluorescent X ray spectrometer developed to analyze
cadmium (Cd) included in plastic and the electric wire film material, etc. promptly. The range of
elements that can be measured is from sodium (Na) to uranium (U).Liquid nitrogen cooling for the
high performance detector is required only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are
switched to the measurement atmosphere by the operation of one button. When X rays (primary X
rays) are illuminated from the X ray tube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having wavelengths
(energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are generated from the elements.
Qualitative analysis can be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X rays and
quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose. The energies are investigated by two methods.
One is to optically separate them and the other is to use the energy separation characteristic of the X
ray detector. The former is called the wavelength dispersive method an: the latter the energy dispersive
method. The element analyzer employs the latter method. As seen from the figure, since the energy
dispersive X ray spectrometer has no moving parts employs a simple optical system, its structure is
simple and compact. And since the detector can be installed the specimen, the X ray solid angle of

Cognitive Failures Of A Person s Cognitive System
A person s cognitive system can overall be very effective, though occasionally mistakes occur
resulting in generalized cognitive failures. Cognitive failures, also known as absent mindedness, are
errors or mistakes people make due to attention slips or memory failures (Reason, 1982). These
failures refer to all possible errors within the cognitive system and can be traced to problems with
attention, memory, errors created by distractions and errors in the execution of intentions. These
include lapses of attention, mind wandering, action failures, etc. Examples of cognitive failures
include daydreaming during an exam, forgetting the name of the person you just met a short time
before and forgetting where you placed your keys or your glasses. These are mistakes that most people
would agree they had experienced. How often these mistakes occur however is dependent on the
person. When I kept track of my own personal memory lapses, I found that I often make mistakes on a
daily basis.
Cognitive failures are considered very important to researchers today in areas including cognitive
psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology and neuropsychology. It is apparent
that the reason for such interest is due to the frequency of failures depending on individual differences,
age and neuropsychological disorders and most importantly how these errors have consequences in the
individual s life. An example of a real life situation would be if a student is daydreaming in class

Rip Van Winkle And The Dangers Of American Innocence Essay
Rip Van Winkle and the Dangers of American Innocence Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle is a
staple of early American literature that has lived through the ages as a fable that as Americans we tell
our children to entertain and illicit a message or moral that they will be able to take away from this
slice of American literature. Irving s story does in fact have a lot to say about America as a young and
naive nation that has bred a national identity, but in the process has forgotten about the past and
thrown away any sense of previous ideas of a national identity. Irving s story is ultimately about the
dangers of American innocence and progress as well as how this naive national sense of identity can
help to create the good natured, but lazy Rip and the hostile townsfolk of Sleepy Hollow. Washington
Irving s story as a piece commenting on the formation of a national American identity is quite
interesting in it s views of America and what it stands for at the time after the Revolutionary War. The
following paper will examine Irving s short story and interpret it into terms of trying to understand
Irving s idea of what the American identity of the time is. To further examine the thesis the paper will
look at the town as a representation of the danger of innocence towards the national identity. The
second part will look at Rip Van Winkle himself as another piece towards the idea of innocence
creating a danger for himself and the country as a whole. Finally the paper will

The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone
Introduction
A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year. Furthermore,
during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of Dionysus honored the god of
fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959).
The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won the award for his
performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest playwrights then. Only now is he
thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the greek era.
The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances affect the
way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and speech, Sophocles best
distinguishes the chorus.
Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c. (Reinhold 1959).
The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to perform Antigone, a director
would need to understand numerous things relating to the chorus: where the chorus adds structure of
the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and type of costumes in the play.
Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers
(Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each other in a battle for the
throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the brothers, the prophecy fulfills itself .
Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers are dead. Her

Color Blindness In The Phantom Of The Opera
Social justice is the equal distribution of resources and opportunities, in which outside factors that
categorize people are irrelevant (Pachamama Alliance). Inequality in gender, race, sexuality, religion,
and possessions remain potent. While many businesses are working toward creating equal and just
environments for all of their workers, many problems regarding race and gender still plague even the
21st century, and these efforts to combat injustice are not always readily and well received. Frequent
theatre goers may be unaware that even the entertainment industry deals with discrimination against
women and people of diverse backgrounds. Although on stage it may seem like new shows are
bursting with diversity, behind the scenes there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Phantom of the Opera also issued a similar type of casting method when naming Norm Lewis as
the first black actor to play the Phantom. However, the idea of color blindness is not a problem on
stage so much as it is off stage. The biggest problem that many black playwrights and directors face is
not that their work is not being produced, but that the pieces written about black communities by
white men are often racist. Because much of white privilege doesn t have any interaction with
blackness they have a tendency to congregate around pathology, and only focusing on particular things
in the urban environment high crime, single parenthood, things like that and then they sort of tag that
as being the black experience (Nichloson). Properly representing a culture different than the
playwright s or producer s without being racist is a very tedious and difficult task which is why it is
very important to have diversity in a show s production team. Black people are needed on the creative
team of a show about a black community in order to have a fuller perspective of what black is, what
black story is, and what black voice is (Nichloson). American theatre has its definite struggles with
gender and racial injustices, but theatres in Britain are facing the same problems on an even greater

Frankenstein Fear Of Science Essay
Some readers have seen the novel as an illustration of the fear of the power of science. To what extent
do you agree with this view of the novel?
Frankenstein shows a contrast between the supernatural and the scientific and highlights that there are
elements of science which we should fear. This attitude reflected that of many at the time of writing,
as science began to gain credibility and was used more frequently, and Shelley shows this in her novel
through supernatural imagery and language, characterisation and setting. However, the novel can also
be seen not to fear science itself, but the way in which it is manipulated, again shown through the
characterisation of Frankenstein and his professors.
Shelley explores the power of science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most obvious example of this is Frankenstein s own character. He is seen to be very arrogant,
immature, obsessive and melodramatic, especially in the earlier chapters of the book, an example of
which is when he describes that he was left to struggle with a child s blindness when it came to
studying science. This attitude best shows Frankenstein as someone who is not likely to own up to
their errors, such as later on, when the Creature has murdered William and Justine is punished for the
crime although Frankenstein internally realises that it is his fault. This links cleverly in to the idea that
it is not science itself that is frightening, but those who manipulate it. Frankenstein can also be seen as
a cautionary tale, although perhaps not directed towards science, but again, towards the person who is
using science to inform their behaviour and their studies. It is always very clear in the novel that it is
Frankenstein s own doing that has led to the catastrophe of the monster, as, even if Shelley is trying to
suggest that science itself is the evil in the text, it impossible to overlook the fact that it is
Frankenstein himself who has brought the Creature in to being. There is also another debate of nature
or nurture in the text which could

The Decline Of The Mayan Civilization
The early Mayan civilization had lowly beginnings. They rose to remarkable heights in a seemingly
inhospitable land. As Maya scholar Arthur Demarest said Such a civilization, had no business there.
The Mayans had to battle with torrential rain in the rainy season, and when the weather turned hot, it
scorched the land and their water supplies would plummet. They were always faced with floods or
drought. They were probably forced here due to overcrowding from other tribes. But nonetheless they
began to conquer these threats as they learned advanced farming techniques to make the shallow earth
fertile. They burned and cleared jungle to make room for their agriculture, particularly maize. They
then began the process of crop rotation, long before anyone else. As the Mayan civilization began its
steady uprising they began to redouble their efforts, they started composting, cultivating, they built
irrigation systems and began to terrace the landscape to make farming more efficient and prevent
erosion. They dammed rivers and flooded swamplands and marshes to create rich farmland. They
instituted transport systems to move fertile silt and mud from lowlands to higher enclosed gardens and
farms and created man made lakes and ponds that they used to fish and systems of corrals held wild
game. They maximized their talents and squeezed out enough nourishment to support their population
which had risen to several million people. It took time but the Mayans began to thrive in the

Origin Of Replication Is The Starting Point Of Dna...
BME 603 Exam 2 Tao Xu (Nov 9 2016)
Origin of replication is the starting point of DNA replication. It cannot replicate in the host cells
without this site.
Antibiotic resistance gene can be served as a select agent to find the right clone and then improve the
plasmid transformation efficiency. Antibiotic resistance gene can also give the bacteria a pressure to
have the plasmid, because the bacteria would use more energy to replicate both the plasmid and its
own DNA.
(1) The protein needs complex eukaryotic post translational modifications for structure.
(2) The eukaryotic proteins are not well folded in E. coli and form insoluble aggregates.
(3) Proteins are secreted, membrane or intracellular.
cDNA library is usually used to expressing eukaryotic gene in prokaryotes. There are no introns in E.
coli DNA, so it does not have enzymes which could cut it out in the transcription procedure. In cDNA
library, there are no introns, so it could be expressed in E. coli cells.
Genomic DNA library have the non coding and regulatory sequence while cDNA library doesn t, but
genomic DNA library is hard to make and maintain.

Politics In George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
Politics in today s day and age is slippery and redundant. Terms like fake news and alternative facts
have been used to describe the manipulation of language. George Orwell s essay Politics and the
English Language analyzes many examples of literature and explains why they are bad, why they are
influential, and how easily language can be manipulated. Plato s Allegory of the Cave touches on the
interaction between the ignorant and the wise. Referring to Orwell and Plato s writings, this essay will
analyze the current political state. Language is being used in a negative connotation which is
frequently occurring in today s politics. No one knows everything. In Plato s, Allegory of the Cave ,
the reader is introduced to an analogy referring to a common reaction of the ignorant toward wisdom.
In the story, prisoners are held in captivity and unable to see anything else other than shadows on the
wall (989). This represents modern day civilization and refers to the ignorant ignorance toward
politics, history, general truths, etc. Life as an ignorant prisoner from Plato s analogy consist of
playing a game to pass the time a game that includes watching as the shadows of wiser and better well
off living beings are cast on the wall (989). Modern civilization is constantly listening and looking
toward politicians whom cast a shadow, deciding the laws and methods of protection in which
civilians abide. It would be shocking if something foreign, such as an alien from outer

External factors influence a firm s choice of direction and action and, ultimately, its organizational
structure and internal processes. These factors, which constitute the external environment, can be
divided into three interrelated subcategories: factors in the remote environment, factors in the industry
environment, and factors in the operating environment... In combination, these factors form the basis
of the opportunities and threats that a firm faces in its competitive environment, (Pearce Robinson,
2004, p. 78). To create an experience unlike its competitors, Starbucks must constantly evaluate all
areas of their business while capitalizing on economies of scale and eliminating redundancies.
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT Starbucks can benefit from an environmental scan from the
environmental analysis, identifying challenges and opportunities, and by using the external and
internal sources of information researched. These factors make up the external environment to include
the remote and operating environment, (Pearce Robinson, 2004). Market research by First Research
(2010) has shown that the United States coffee shop industry includes about 25,000 stores with
combined annual revenue of about $13 billion. Major companies in this industry include Starbucks,
Caribou, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and Praise International. The industry is concentrated with the top

  • 3. The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage, raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade, but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. In this paper, I will discuss the impact of the ACA in more detail, and describe evidence that sheds light upon the accuracy of the projections. I begin by reviewing in broad detail the structure of the ACA. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because over the years dating back to 1852 they have been pioneers in both their product production and distribution. Over the years they have faced a lot of criticism and setbacks. Most notably during Prohibition from 1920 through the early 1930s. In 2008 they were bought by the European company InBev and currently hold 49.6% of the market share. Today through the modern era they have also been one of the most successful companies when it comes to marketing their products. After World War II, Anheuser Busch entered into a time of prosperity and growth. In 1955, August A. Busch, Jr. made a personal television appearance to introduce the first successful new beer brand since Prohibition, Busch Bavarian. To help market the brand, August Jr. tied Busch to America s national pastime: baseball. In the 1950s, Anheuser Busch tapped into the growing medium of television and became the first brewery to sponsor a network television show, The Ken Murray Show, on CBS in 1950. Popular campaigns, such as Pick a Pair, which urged customers to buy not one but two six packs at a time, helped make Anheuser Busch the leading U.S. brewer in 1957 a position it retains today. In the 1970s, advertising featuring memorable slogans helped keep Anheuser Busch s products in the forefront of consumers minds. There have been time periods in which witchcraft was a prominent feature in society, and there has been times when it has died down. One of the most interesting things about witchcraft is how it has physically changed, how the concept of witchcraft has changed, and how people perceive and view it has changed over centuries. What many people do not know is that witchcraft is actually still practiced today in the US and all over the world. In addition to the isolation, she found she had another problem. She was repelled by the smell of the anatomy hall. When this became too complicated she tried smoking herself. Due to all these challenges, her interests turned to pediatrics and psychiatry. This would be the beginning of her lifelong work with children [4]. After graduating from the University of Rome in 1896, Montessori continued with her research at the University s psychiatric clinic, and in 1897 she was accepted as a voluntary assistant there. Maria opened her own medical clinic to treat children. In 1897, she became an assistant doctor at the psychiatric clinic of the University of Rome. She began visiting asylums for mentally challenged and handicapped children. Maria observed that the living conditions for these children were miserable. The patients were kept like prisoners in dark, bare rooms with nothing to stimulate them. She observed that it was not the medical problem but rather pedagogical one. It was this time when she came across the work of two French doctors Edward Seguin and Jean Itard s experiments to educate defective children. Maria observed these children picking up crumbs off of the floor and playing with them. She realized that the children were using the crumbs as toys. Maria realized that these children needed a special school that would meet their needs. While working at the asylum, Maria was introduced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay The film American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a film about imprisonment and escape from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this film such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack. Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience. Throughout American Beauty, Mendesʼ use of set design and camera angles have been carefully structured to emphathise the filmʼs theme of imprisonment. Interestingly, as the film progresses and Lesterʼs relationships evolve, the camera angles also evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera angles give Lester a triumphant image. Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by film directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes (1999) states when referring to Lesterʼs work setting. As Lesterʼs quest for escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this film through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with Lesterʼs sexual fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is first introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend Janeʼs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his first tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is repeatedly seen throughout the film in house furnishings such as a bouquet of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don t want to do it. The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs, therefore we, as His disciples, should be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in (King James Version Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s ... • 14. gods bits of wood Essay Sembene Ousmane s novel, Gods Bits of Wood, gives a highly detailed story of the railway strike of 1947 48 in French West Africa. It contains conflicts of political, emotional and moral nature. Ultimately, Sembene s novel is one of empowerment. It brings to light the tension between colonial officials and the African community among the railway men as well as the struggle of the African community to free itself from being subjected to colonial power. Frederick Cooper s article, Our Strike: Equality, Anticolonial politics and the 1947 48 Railway Strike in French West Africa, helps reveal the strike s true meaning and agenda by analyzing the conflicts present in Sembene s novel. Not only does this statement show Bakayoko s leadership in affairs of the strike, but it reveals sentiments of the African community that their language needs to be recognized. At that same meeting, when having to choose the number of delegates to represent the railway men Bakayoko states, There is no necessity for that. They didn t set any limit on the number of representatives they would have, we ll all go over together (Sembene 178). Again, Bakayoko is expressing the need for the railway men to be recognized and that since the French leaders have no limit on the number of delegates, it is only fair that the railway men not be limited either. Fa Keita is also looked upon as a man of great importance. His arrest by French militiamen reinforces this idea. From the beginning of the novel the people constantly look to Fa Keita for direction and guidance, calling him the old one . In Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Freire elaborates on the contradictory student teacher relationship in the banking concept of education and the need for consciousness and communication within the educational system. He suggests students and teachers should engage in a more active dialogue in which both parties are learning from each other. In this way, the students gain consciousness of themselves not only as intellectual beings, but also as beings who contain valuable and vital knowledge to provide to the teacher. Similarly, in The Library Card, Wright becomes conscious of his humanity after reading books and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this system, knowledge is formed by posing problems of human beings in their relation with the world that incite critical thinking and thought provoking dialogue between students and teachers where both parties learn from each other. The students are liberated from oppression and placed at a level tantamount to the teacher, creating an environment in which the students and the teacher will only continue to gain more knowledge and truth through dialogue and communication. Freire states, yet only through communication can human life hold meaning. Transferring that idea to a learning environment, communication both ways between the student and the teacher is absolutely necessary for education to mean anything because without communication, there would be no education. In problem posing education, communication is two sided; therefore, both parties become conscious of the other as human beings. This allows the expansion of human faculties to be limitless and ever evolving. The essential concepts of liberation and oppression that Freire discusses in his essay are reiterated in The Library Card, a personal narrative by Richard Wright, an African American male. Published in 1919, Hermann Hesse s, Demian, tells the story of an older man s reflection on his childhood. Throughout the novel, main character Emil Sinclair struggles to find a purpose and meaning for his life. He faces many difficulties in an attempt to find himself. This is a novel of self discovery and the pursuit of happiness. Because Hesse displays a power struggle between two elements of binaries, the binaries mirror the struggles that Sinclair faces and his final acceptance of this. The novel begins with recollections of 10 year old Sinclair. Hesse illustrates the two realms or worlds that Sinclair is aware of at this age. One world is of light and one world is of darkness. The world of light consists of everything good, pure, and innocent while the world of darkness is everything evil, sin and deceit. According to a report from CDC (2016), HTN costs 48.6 billion dollars including health care expenditures, medications and missed days of work. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (2013), among 26,448,196 residents of Texas, 170.1 death rates related to HHD, 40.1 related to stroke and 15.9 related to CKD consecutively. AHRQ (2013) health expenditure data demonstrates that the southern region of the United States, which includes Texas, exceeded the average health expenditure for a hypertensive patient to a cost of $805 per hypertensive person. Two recent peer review audits of twenty charts at Southmore Medical Clinic revealed that we were practicing with only a 45% compliance rate with the Joint National Committee (JNC) 8 guideline recommendations for managing HTN. In Southmore Clinic HTN management protocol is based on JNC 6 guidelines and HTN parameters are more relaxed due to patients noncompliance and the physician s laid back attitude. Therefore, the revision of existing protocol and the aggressive management of HTN is recommended in conjunction with JNC 8 guidelines (see Appendix A for more details). Available ... I divided my analysis maps into three parts which are slope and geology, environment and cultural sites, and microclimate. For the slope and geology map, I combined the slope, bedrock and surficial geology together because I think all of them can majorly determine and describe the topography. Bedrock and surficial geology are the materials that are under the ground. They might form different topography by the geological action including weathering and eroding processes. Also, the slopes can decide whether the land is a plain or a hill. Furthermore, I think slope and geology can risk of the environmental hazards like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think it can be the next consideration to think about the land development because human comfort is important for people to live. For my final synthesis map, I just combined all of the information from the analysis map except the bedrock geology to show where the best place on McNabs to build the education center is. The reason that I do not add the bedrock geology because I think the education center would not be a skyscraper, and it might only have four or five floors height. So, the foundation might not touch or influence the bedrock. In addition, I add viewing location to my synthesis map. The reason is that I think the education center is the place to educate and to visit the island. So, a good viewing location is necessary. From the synthesis map, you can see there are some suitable to unsuitable places for the land development. Overall, there is approximately 70 percent of the land suitable for development with caution. For example, people should consider what kind of slope it is like the steeper slope always has a high risk of mudslides, and what kind of surficial material it is like tills are more stable than coastal sediments. Stump pain and phantom sensations are also common versions of this phenomenon. All amputees experience some type of phantom feeling, but for some with severe pain it can be very difficult to treat. The first person to describe this phenomenon was Ambroise Pare in 1552 and the first person to coin the term phantom limb pain was Silas Weir Mitchell in 1871. The Honor Jason Mack Ms. Davis English I 24 April 2017 The Honor of Sir Galahad The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and faithful. In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be religious, and be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot and Elaine of Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir Galahad was shared in The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad first came to King Arthur s Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known as a courteous and chivalrous knight. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral purity by being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of Galahad s moral purity and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the King asked him to find the Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have waited to bring to a close the adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy than he shall have of us. (Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show that he pleased the court and the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including courtliness and moral purity. These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society. Chivalry is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in religion, as well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented chivalry for the reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for many great descendants. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy, bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent, strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts. These ideas of mountain life did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. They were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have them as guests, and treated to every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. Stations like Deland, Inverness, High Springs and Canal Point differed little from the expected mean, while Marathon Shores and Niceville deviated noticeably. This deviation, however, is chiefly explained by the stations locations and the patterns of rainfall associated with those positions. While relatively small, this variance among precipitation rates is still great enough to confirm the claim that most of the time, at least, stations located closer to the coast experience overall higher mean monthly and mean annual precipitation rates. Using the data collected solely from the selected six stations, a possible correlation is unclear between the amount of precipitation received and the number of hurricane strikes within a given area despite the claim made in the conceptual model. Anatomy of Criticism Essay example Anatomy of Criticism Introduction In his Anatomy of Criticism, Northrop Frye offers a complex theory that aspires to describe a unifying system for literary criticism. It can be argued, however, that in attempting to delineate such an all inclusive structure, Frye s system eliminates identity in literature. The present essay takes up this argument and offers examples of how identity is precluded by Frye s system as outlined in Anatomy of Criticism. Structure Vs. Frye completely ignores literature that is outside the Western classics; contemporary literature and literature from the Oriental traditions, for example, remains outside Frye s scheme, and he makes no margin whatsoever for including such writings in his theory. This rigid, inflexible system doesn t allow for literature other than works abstracted from Frye s narrow aggregation of central myths, and the identity of both the writer and any individual work of literature is lost in Frye s structure. The Identity of the Reader In addition to excluding the identity of the writer and of works of literature, Frye s literary schema also ignores the identity of the reader. In his Polemical Introduction to the Anatomy of Criticism, Frye argues that [literature] is a disinterested use of words: it does not address a reader directly (p4). It is only criticism, he says, that can speak. We must dispute this, however, for surely the writer means for his or her work to converse with the reader in some manner. Physics Of X Ray Fluorescence X Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometry The JSX 3222 analyzer is an energy dispersive fluorescent X ray spectrometer developed to analyze cadmium (Cd) included in plastic and the electric wire film material, etc. promptly. The range of elements that can be measured is from sodium (Na) to uranium (U).Liquid nitrogen cooling for the high performance detector is required only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are switched to the measurement atmosphere by the operation of one button. When X rays (primary X rays) are illuminated from the X ray tube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having wavelengths (energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are generated from the elements. Qualitative analysis can be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X rays and quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose. The energies are investigated by two methods. One is to optically separate them and the other is to use the energy separation characteristic of the X ray detector. The former is called the wavelength dispersive method an: the latter the energy dispersive method. The element analyzer employs the latter method. Cognitive failures, also known as absent mindedness, are errors or mistakes people make due to attention slips or memory failures (Reason, 1982). These failures refer to all possible errors within the cognitive system and can be traced to problems with attention, memory, errors created by distractions and errors in the execution of intentions. These include lapses of attention, mind wandering, action failures, etc. Examples of cognitive failures include daydreaming during an exam, forgetting the name of the person you just met a short time before and forgetting where you placed your keys or your glasses. These are mistakes that most people would agree they had experienced. How often these mistakes occur however is dependent on the person. When I kept track of my own personal memory lapses, I found that I often make mistakes on a daily basis. Cognitive failures are considered very important to researchers today in areas including cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, educational psychology and neuropsychology. It is apparent that the reason for such interest is due to the frequency of failures depending on individual differences, age and neuropsychological disorders and most importantly how these errors have consequences in the individual s life. Irving s story does in fact have a lot to say about America as a young and naive nation that has bred a national identity, but in the process has forgotten about the past and thrown away any sense of previous ideas of a national identity. Irving s story is ultimately about the dangers of American innocence and progress as well as how this naive national sense of identity can help to create the good natured, but lazy Rip and the hostile townsfolk of Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving s story as a piece commenting on the formation of a national American identity is quite interesting in it s views of America and what it stands for at the time after the Revolutionary War. The following paper will examine Irving s short story and interpret it into terms of trying to understand Irving s idea of what the American identity of the time is. To further examine the thesis the paper will look at the town as a representation of the danger of innocence towards the national identity. The KDC issues a ticket granting ticket (TGT), which is time stamped and encrypts the secret key and returns the encrypted result to the user s workstation. This is done infrequently, typically at user logon; the TGT expires at some point although it may be transparently renewed by the user s session manager while they are logged in. When the client wants to communicate with another node, then it needs to send the TGT to the ticket granting service (TGS), which usually shares the same host as the KDC. The Service must be registered at TGT with a Service Principal Name (SPN). The client uses the SPN to request access to this service. After verifying that the TGT is valid and that the user is permitted to access the requested service, the TGS issues ticket and session keys to the client. However, what they all have in common, are disruptive pieces which exclude significant ideas, leaving the reader to wonder whether what was left, resembles the message of the sacred fundamentals in its entirety. Prominently, as we know, The Gospel of Mary is not part of the New Testament, yet such guidance has to offer captivating objectivities on some matters, as well as on Christ s disciples themselves. At the beginning of the Gospel, the writings begin with everyone, mourning for Jesus departure, frighten and uncertain of tomorrow. • 41. The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone Introduction A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year. Furthermore, during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of Dionysus honored the god of fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959). The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won the award for his performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest playwrights then. Only now is he thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the greek era. The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances affect the way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and speech, Sophocles best distinguishes the chorus. Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c. (Reinhold 1959). The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to perform Antigone, a director would need to understand numerous things relating to the chorus: where the chorus adds structure of the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and type of costumes in the play. Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers (Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each other in a battle for the throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the brothers, the prophecy fulfills itself . Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers are dead. Her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Color Blindness In The Phantom Of The Opera Social justice is the equal distribution of resources and opportunities, in which outside factors that categorize people are irrelevant (Pachamama Alliance). Inequality in gender, race, sexuality, religion, and possessions remain potent. While many businesses are working toward creating equal and just environments for all of their workers, many problems regarding race and gender still plague even the 21st century, and these efforts to combat injustice are not always readily and well received. The Phantom of the Opera also issued a similar type of casting method when naming Norm Lewis as the first black actor to play the Phantom. However, the idea of color blindness is not a problem on stage so much as it is off stage. The biggest problem that many black playwrights and directors face is not that their work is not being produced, but that the pieces written about black communities by white men are often racist. Because much of white privilege doesn t have any interaction with blackness they have a tendency to congregate around pathology, and only focusing on particular things in the urban environment high crime, single parenthood, things like that and then they sort of tag that as being the black experience (Nichloson). Properly representing a culture different than the playwright s or producer s without being racist is a very tedious and difficult task which is why it is very important to have diversity in a show s production team. Black people are needed on the creative team of a show about a black community in order to have a fuller perspective of what black is, what black story is, and what black voice is (Nichloson). • 43. Frankenstein Fear Of Science Essay Some readers have seen the novel as an illustration of the fear of the power of science. To what extent do you agree with this view of the novel? Frankenstein shows a contrast between the supernatural and the scientific and highlights that there are elements of science which we should fear. This attitude reflected that of many at the time of writing, as science began to gain credibility and was used more frequently, and Shelley shows this in her novel through supernatural imagery and language, characterisation and setting. However, the novel can also be seen not to fear science itself, but the way in which it is manipulated, again shown through the characterisation of Frankenstein and his professors. Shelley explores the power of science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most obvious example of this is Frankenstein s own character. He is seen to be very arrogant, immature, obsessive and melodramatic, especially in the earlier chapters of the book, an example of which is when he describes that he was left to struggle with a child s blindness when it came to studying science. This attitude best shows Frankenstein as someone who is not likely to own up to their errors, such as later on, when the Creature has murdered William and Justine is punished for the crime although Frankenstein internally realises that it is his fault. This links cleverly in to the idea that it is not science itself that is frightening, but those who manipulate it. Frankenstein can also be seen as a cautionary tale, although perhaps not directed towards science, but again, towards the person who is using science to inform their behaviour and their studies. It is always very clear in the novel that it is Frankenstein s own doing that has led to the catastrophe of the monster, as, even if Shelley is trying to suggest that science itself is the evil in the text, it impossible to overlook the fact that it is Frankenstein himself who has brought the Creature in to being. There is also another debate of nature or nurture in the text which could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Decline Of The Mayan Civilization The early Mayan civilization had lowly beginnings. They rose to remarkable heights in a seemingly inhospitable land. As Maya scholar Arthur Demarest said Such a civilization, had no business there. The Mayans had to battle with torrential rain in the rainy season, and when the weather turned hot, it scorched the land and their water supplies would plummet. They were always faced with floods or drought. They were probably forced here due to overcrowding from other tribes. But nonetheless they began to conquer these threats as they learned advanced farming techniques to make the shallow earth fertile. They burned and cleared jungle to make room for their agriculture, particularly maize. They then began the process of crop rotation, long before anyone else. As the Mayan civilization began its steady uprising they began to redouble their efforts, they started composting, cultivating, they built irrigation systems and began to terrace the landscape to make farming more efficient and prevent erosion. They dammed rivers and flooded swamplands and marshes to create rich farmland. They instituted transport systems to move fertile silt and mud from lowlands to higher enclosed gardens and farms and created man made lakes and ponds that they used to fish and systems of corrals held wild game. They maximized their talents and squeezed out enough nourishment to support their population which had risen to several million people. It took time but the Mayans began to thrive in the ... It cannot replicate in the host cells without this site. Antibiotic resistance gene can be served as a select agent to find the right clone and then improve the plasmid transformation efficiency. Antibiotic resistance gene can also give the bacteria a pressure to have the plasmid, because the bacteria would use more energy to replicate both the plasmid and its own DNA. Terms like fake news and alternative facts have been used to describe the manipulation of language. George Orwell s essay Politics and the English Language analyzes many examples of literature and explains why they are bad, why they are influential, and how easily language can be manipulated. Plato s Allegory of the Cave touches on the interaction between the ignorant and the wise. Referring to Orwell and Plato s writings, this essay will analyze the current political state. Language is being used in a negative connotation which is frequently occurring in today s politics. No one knows everything. In Plato s, Allegory of the Cave , the reader is introduced to an analogy referring to a common reaction of the ignorant toward wisdom. In the story, prisoners are held in captivity and unable to see anything else other than shadows on the wall (989). This represents modern day civilization and refers to the ignorant ignorance toward politics, history, general truths, etc. Life as an ignorant prisoner from Plato s analogy consist of playing a game to pass the time a game that includes watching as the shadows of wiser and better well off living beings are cast on the wall (989).
