Thucydides Accounts of the Degradation of Athenian Honor
Thucydides account of the Peloponnesian war served as a window into Athenian societal culture.
Carrying the reader from Pericles moving speech to the assembly, through Cleon and Diodotus oratory
battle over the fate of Mytilene, and finally to the Athenian proposal to the Melians, Thucydides
detailed the transformation of Athens from a state based on justice and freedom to a empire with a
corrupted soul. This corruption did not occur over night, but was the result of increasing tyrannical
behavior by the part of Athens in its interactions with other Greek city states. The stages of this
development can be analyzed into three parts: Pericles war speech, the dialogue on Mytilene, and the
Melian debate. Pericles speech was propagated by the horn of war against the Lacedaemonians. In the
midst of the conflict, the Athenians called an assembly to determine their course of action. Their
choices were to either agree to Sparta s demands, which included dismantling the siege of Potidaea,
freeing Aegina from their rule, and cancelling their embargo of Megara, or war. At this juncture, the
prime Athenian statesman, Pericles, presented his advice: never give in. For Pericles, Athens can never
subjugate itself to any power and must fight for its autonomy. In order to win the war, Athens must
focus on its people and avoid mistakes. They cannot base their campaign on saving their property, but
keeping the integrity of their forces. This stance is exemplified as Pericles said,

Evolution Of Presidential Elections
The U.S. constitution assigned the task of handling elections to the states with the result being fifty
diverse election systems. At the legislative level, elections for the U.S. House of Representatives are
held every two years and the Senate elections are conducted every six years. Typically, the president s
party will lose seats in most elections; however, incumbents have a strong propensity for winning
reelection. The average campaign cost for a House of Representatives seat is over $1.7 million and the
average cost for a Senate race is $10.5 million. Thus, candidates spend numerous hours raising money
over the phone, through the mail, and at fundraising events. The money raised pays for everything
from television ads to campaign paraphernalia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first phase is the nominating process. The states work with the national parties to firm up their
specific primary election date. More Americans show up to vote in the general election than in the
primaries. A winning nominee must pick up a defined number of convention delegates that are divvied
out based on state population. Traditionally, a winner take all system where a candidate had to win all
of the delegates in order win the state has been used by the Republican Party. Recently, the Republican
Party has moved to the same system as the Democrats. The Democratic Party selects their candidate
through a proportional representation system whereby the delegates are assigned based on the
proportion of the vote the candidate wins. The second presidential election phase consists of the two
major party conventions and takes place in the summer before the election. Conventions can give the
party s nominee a lift in the polls, or an electoral boost, lasting days into weeks. The third phase of the
presidential election is the general election, which begins after the conventions and ends on Election
Day. During general election phase, two or three debates are held between the

Compare And Contrast Arizona And Virginia
Where to live? This is a question many people ask themselves, but narrow it down to two states such
as Virginia and Arizona. While on the surface, Arizona and Virginia are beautiful states that most
people would love to live in. But both states have their drawbacks from weather to the size of their
state and population and politics. In another light they both have quite a few number of benefits such
as accessibility and law enforcement. First most, Arizona is known as one of the hottest states with
temperatures sometimes reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature has been proven to be able
to cook food items such as eggs and cookie dough. In addition to having hot weather, during summer
Arizona begins its monsoon season with heavy winds and occasional rain. While this may not be

Arizona comes in at 113, 998 mi2 and Virginia pales in comparison by 42,775 mi2. While Virginia is
smaller size, the population size comes in at 8.412 million people. Especially due to weather, Arizona
only has 6.931 million people residing in the state. Furthermore, agriculturally, Arizona is mainly
famous for growing cotton and their 5 C s: cotton, cattle, citrus, cattle, and copper. In contrast,
Virginia is widely known for growing tobacco. In addition, both states grow marijuana which rakes in
more cash than other cash crops. Equally important, Arizona and Virginia are blessed with access to
multiple utilities which are usually taken for granted. They have access to clean water, electricity,
internet, cell service, and much more. Also, they have access to modern medical facilities for humans
and animals. While they may be similar in accessibility, the median cost of homes differentiates
significantly. The median costs of homes in Arizona are about $223,700. This comes to about $142 per
square foot. In Virginia, the median cost of homes increases to $299,999 and about $153 per square

Grasslands
The biome that I chose was the grasslands because it seemed very interesting and very exciting. This
biome has lots of interesting stuff like the animals and plants, but mostly how the food chain is
there. The grasslands are very unique, but there are some very dangerous animals, but there plants are
very pretty looking.I also chose this biome because I want to learn what lives there and what type of

Chipotle Research Paper
It turns out even Chipotle isn t perfect. Seventeen Chipotle locations in Minnesota have been linked to
a recent salmonella outbreak and are currently under investigation by the state s health officials. The
Outbreak At least 45 people were sickened in the recent outbreak, and at least five have been
hospitalized. Investigators had spoken with 34 affected people as of Saturday, 32 of whom ate at one
of the 17 Minnesota Chipotle locations between August 16 26. Those interviewed became sick
between August 20 29. Officials are still working on confirming the specific source of the outbreak.

Rashes of sickness like the ones we ve seen this summer really speak to the importance of
handwashing and diligent adherence to health codes when you work in the food industry but it s
possible that some things slip through the cracks. Chipotle, ever the noble ambassadors of good
burrito will, have been humble and cooperative throughout the investigation. Health officials are
giving the company kind words and gold stars (despite, you know, the salmonella). One spokesperson
for the department of health said that Chipotle has been extremely proactive in collaborating with
investigators to quickly control the outbreak and identify its source. Another asserted the Health
Department s confidence that it is now safe to eat at Chipotle, sharing that he had a burrito bowl there

What Are The Pros And Cons Of State
PROS AND CONS OF ANY STATE LEVEL POLICY (500)
The State in modern times is seen more as an enemy of the people then its agent, but it still retains
many qualities that allowed the development of the modern world we live in. This chapter provides
the main benefits of using the State as an agent for development as well as the negative sides.
The main advantage of the State is hold up in its most basic concept, the State as a collective agent of
its people (Parsons, 1949) that uses the power and capital of its individual citizens to promote and
finance change on a bigger scale. Its main advantages in this case are its size, capital and legitimacy.
Starting with capital, the state apparatus is huge (Niskanen, 1971), no matter it being a minimal ...

And as peoples trust in the State to fulfil its tasks dwindles, so does the States power to provide those
services (ibid.). But from a development perspective things are a bit different. Most problems in
delivering services to citizens are financial in nature (Greve, 2012), but where a lack of funds might
stop State led development, it is not detrimental to the State as an agent of it. For what is perceived
good development practice there is always international funding (for example McGrath, 2015,
Worldbank.org, 2015, Undp.org, 2015). This paper does not go into the debate of is good development
practice good or not it takes internationally sponsored and promoted development practice as
implicitly good. And for the sake of argumentation on is the State a good or bad agent of development
it does not matter what kind of development it promotes. So this good development is taken as the one
we want our states to be agents to. And the State relying on foreign sources of funding development
practice when it lacks state funds for development might be positive. To clarify, a state that runs a
budget deficit does not have the monetary power to start development policy. This allows for the
internationally funded and tried out development practice to become the only development practice a
state can enforce (finance), because it can fund it from external sources such as donations,

Theme Of Imoinda In The Queen Of Night
Imoinda is the only female character that receives some attention from the narrator. Imoinda is
Oroonoko s lover and eventually his wife. She has very little power in the narrative since she is part of
two repressed groups (slave and woman) (Ibbotson). She is praised by the narrator for her beauty and
her loyalty. These are the traits that make her special but also responsible for the fact that she has little
influence over what happens to her. Beauty makes her desirable for men regardless of whether she
wants them to fall in love with her or not. This can be seen in the old king. Loyalty to her husband is
what causes her demise since his desires are her desires, her loyalty causes her to act as he wishes her
to. This is also why she lets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads to Oroonoko killing her by first cutting her throat, and then severing her yet smiling face
from that delicate body, pregnant as it was with the fruits of tenderest love. (Behn, Oroonoko 218).
Thereby, Imoinda s loss of identity is complete: She has lost her agency, her name, her life and even
her face has been torn off. She suffered all these brutalities by the hands of men who either wanted to
possess her or claimed to love her (in Oroonoko s case both). The narrative ends with her as the
narrator states: Yet, I hope, the reputation of my pen is considerable enough to make his glorious name
to survive to all ages, with that of the brave, the beautiful, and the constant Imoinda (Behn, Oroonoko
224). This leaves the reader with the idea of Imoinda rather than the person presented towards at the
end of the narrative whose face was torn

Description Of The Vehicle Tracking System
Transportation act as important part in our life, the people can be connected from place to place but it
is still complicated to track the vehicle. (Sumit et Ajila,2015)
The first implementation for vehicle tracking system was in the shipping industry because it is a vital
need to know where each vessel was at any given time. These days, however, with different types of
technology growing at a wide space, tracking and display vehicle locations in real time uses
automated vehicle tracking system. (SeokJu et all,2014)
The vehicle tracking system is very useful in tracking and management for fleet. It is the technology
used to determine the location of a vehicle using different methods like GPS and other navigation
systems operating which uses satellites and ground based stations. Modern vehicle tracking systems
use GPS technology to locate and keep monitoring our vehicle anywhere on earth, but sometimes
using different types of automatic vehicle location technology are still another option. The vehicle
tracking system is fixed inside the car and gives location of the car in real time and the data can even
be downloaded in a computer which can be used for making analysis in future as it can be viewed on
electronic maps through internet and software. The device contains modern hardware and software
components that help in tracking and locating vehicles in both online and offline mode. A tracking
system comprises of mainly three parts unit in vehicle, fixed based station and

Premarital Counseling Essay
What is Premarital Counseling?
Premarital Counseling is defined as a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage and it is
often provided by a licensed therapist. Therapist is known as a marriage or family therapist. There are
also the options of seeking counseling through your religious institution if that works better for you
and your future spouse (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013) .

Doing so will strengthen you and your spouse s relationship prior to marriage and perhaps get some
things in check first. Premarital counseling also teaches communication and conflict resolution
techniques. This will help to increase the level of marital satisfaction. It is also found/suggested that
greater communication skills reduce the risk of divorce. The counseling should also bring up
discussions that are vital to a couple s relationship. Whatever these things are they should be hatched
out before so there are no surprises in the relationship. These issues may be minor or major depending
on what s discussed. This may be a time to sort out like gender roles, expectations, and finances most
importantly. Premarital counseling is basically making you aware of strengths and growth areas
therefore insuring a happy and long future together as one (Stebbins, 2011; Duncan, Childs Larson,
2010).
Types of Premarital Counseling
As stated earlier there are various approaches to premarital preparation simply because there are some
many different types of people to connect to the different approaches offered (Duncan, Childs Larson,
2010). Furthermore there has been no significant evidence that says that any one approach is more
effective than others (Duncan, Childs Larson, 2010). So based on information found

Essay On A Work Of Artifice
A Work of Artifice
Marge Piercy
In the poem, A Work of Artifice, Marge Piercy by using imagery of a tended bonsai tree, as well as the
contrast between natural and tamed, she emphasizes the effect of the limits set on a being by another
being. The contrast of imagery about the bonsai tree/ in the attractive pot/ could have grown eighty
feet tall/ on the side of the mountain/ till split by lightning portrays lost potential. If the tree was left to
its own natural devices, the tree would grow strong and mighty, held up high by the side of the

full height, a gardener/ carefully pruned it./ It is nine inches high. This can be related to the potential

It is your nature/ to be small and cozy,/ domestic and weak; how lucky, little tree,/ to have a pot to
grow in. It s interesting that the speaker changes from talking about a bonsai tree, to talking to the

little. Yet, these qualities were not established by the tree itself, but the role assigned by the gardener.
Nevertheless, the gardener is caring for the tree by providing a safe place to grow! A pot. The pruned,
groomed, petite tree framed by an attractive pot only holds an artificial beauty. Gardeners in our own
life could be those who believe that they are benefiting yourself, but ultimately places limitations on
ourselves. An example that comes to mind is when a teacher consults a student that they can t be that ,

American West Art
On Tuesday we took a trip to the Chrysler Museum to view the Branding the American West exhibit.
In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around to view them.
While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I would see. I saw
television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries and a Pepsi; this one was
the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my life. Another cool thing is that
most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let you know what the art means and
who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I liked the most and that one is the Pima
Basket. in this work of art you see a Native American woman making bowls and a fire where she
makes the pot a solid so they are able to use it for their needs. It also shows the respect that the White
painter has toward the Native American culture. What this work of art suggest about the American
West as a place was that it was a diverse group of people who lived there. Native Americans, Settlers
and many others. This painting also shows the amount of respect that the people on the west coast had
for each other. As a brand the American west represented a more unified part of ... Show more content

art raise for me about the time period of the American West are what more many different art styles

William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Essay
Shakespeare wrote his plays without a thought that they would ever not be performed on stage. Many
of Shakespeare s plays have been performed since his death 400 years ago. And with time comes
advances, as many of Shakespeare s play have been adapted from text to film. Some films take
Shakespeare s original plot and twist it to be more modern, while others stick with the classic. In
Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 film version of The Taming of the Shrew, he recreates Shakespeare s loved
play. Although Zeffirelli stays close to Shakespeare s original text, he does omit and add lines and
scenes that weren t originally in the play. Zeffirelli also adds body language and stage directions
where they aren t in the play. These directorial decisions change the way the romance looks between
Katherina and Petruccio in the text. The relationship between the two characters in Zeffirelli s film is
attempted to be seen as more consensual than in the text. Shakespeare s play The Taming of the Shrew
begins with an Induction that isn t in Zeffirelli s film. The Induction in the film starts with a beggar
named Christopher Sly who is very drunk and hasn t paid his bill. He gets kicked out of the tavern and
picked up by a Lord who decides to play a trick on Sly. The trick that the Lord plays on Sly is to have
him believe he has been sick for so long that he has become a Lord himself. The Lord decides to treat

about the sinking of the ship because it is not even mentioned in history books. However, the people

shipmates died goes a lot deeper than just the ship sinking. There are many factors that went into why
the shipmates died at midnight on July 30, 1945. A major factor in why the shipmates died was the
ship s conditions, the lack of protection, and the lack of guidance. The USS Indianapolis did not have

Exploring the Concept of Satire in A Modest Proposal by...
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and Top of the Food Chain by T. Coraghessan Boyle, both are
short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing that ridicules
human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of writing to bring
about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the faults of society across
to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution to the problems of
human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using them for everything that
they are worth on a daily basis. Swift creates a pamphlet and states six reasons as to why this is a
brilliant idea. He states that money wouldn t be wasted on food, the number of Catholics would be
reduced, it would be great inducement to marriages, there would be more food so the economy would
increase, poor tenants would have money for their landlords, and it would be an improvement for the
tavern business. Swift wants everyone to know how badly the Irish people are being treated by the
English. He wants to change the reader s point of view through this sarcastic satirical pamphlet. The
authors purpose of A Modest Proposal, is to try to change society. Swift is trying to reform the British
official s involvement in Ireland. People are dying, and nothing is being done about it. He is trying to
shock readers with a twisted story, but also bring about change

The Physics of a Golf Ball Essay
The Physics of a Golf Ball
The first written reference of golf was in 1457. Golf balls have had extraordinary changes since that
time; they ve gone from leather pouches to dried gum to today s dimpled balls. These dimples help
decrease the drag and increase the lift. Different forces are applied to the golf ball when struck by the
club. Golf clubs have grooves to create backspin. And then there are different variables that affect how
a golf ball will travel, these include: lie angle and the shaft length. A golfer must never forget about
the wind factor . And last but not least , a golfer must flat out use his own judgment in the game of
golf. The game of golf has a science all of it s own, and even the best players have ... Show more

Therefore, the Gutta percha ball arrived on the scene in 1848 to take on the role of smooth, solid, dried
gum from the Malaysian sapodilla tree. These guttie balls had two negatives; they sometimes broke
into pieces as some modern solid balls have been known to do and they did not fly as well as the
feather balls. None the less, as these balls were used their surfaces became roughened. Players soon
realized, however, that cut up balls flew further and the concept of dimples was born. But why are
dimples purposely molded into the modern day golf ball? This question deals with the way that air
affects the flight of a spinning object (or aerodynamics if you will) and that s the bottom line.
Moreover, two simple principles will be discussed in great detail hereafter: lift and drag. Let s not run
faster than we are able though. Before we get on a rampage let s look at what experience has taught us
about a spinning ball. A British scientist in 1887, Professor P.G. Tait owns all the credit to the findings
concerning the importance of spin on the flight of a golf ball. He relates that in his youth he was
taught that all spin is detrimental and he practiced assiduously to master the art of hitting a ball almost
free of spin. After many complex and frustrating experiences, Professor Tait states clearly that, a ball
driven with spin about a horizontal axis with the top of the ball coming toward the golfer,

Tenure in America Essay
Although there are many varying opinions on what revisions should be made to the tenure system in
America, I believe that even though there are many complaints, Tenure needs to be maintained in
order to promote academic freedom and educational security. Tenure is defined by Mathew Finkin as
At the expiration of a period of probation, commonly not to exceed six years of full time service, a
faculty member is either to be accorded tenure or to be given a terminal appointment for the ensuing
academic year. Thereafter, the professor can be discharged only for just cause or other permissible
circumstances and only after a hearing before a body of his or her academic peers (Finkin 3). Tenure,

Unions don t grant tenure administrators do. Too many school boards and superintendents attack
tenure rather than hold their own managers accountable for hiring and supervising teachers and, if
necessary, removing those who don t make the grade. Tenure is granted by the board of education on
recommendation of the superintendent but many schools do a poor job of evaluating and supporting
teachers...Tenure s not about protecting bad teachers; it s about protecting good teachers. What would
happen to teachers without tenure? They could and would be fired for virtually any reason. It s not
hard to imagine teachers being dismissed because they failed the daughter of an influential
businessman or because the school board president s nephew needed a job. In these fiscally troubled
times, what would stop a school board from replacing a veteran teacher at the top of the pay scale with
a first year teacher simply to save money? Tenure is the first line of defense against attacks on
academic freedom. Teachers can engage their students in a free exchange of ideas only if they are
protected from arbitrary dismissal for doing so. Tenure prevents school boards from arbitrarily
dismissing teachers for holding political, religious or social views with which they disagree.[Tenure]
protects academic freedom the way the First Amendment protects freedom of the press (NYSUT).

Post-World War II America
The image of post World War II America is, generally speaking, identified as an era of wholesomeness
revolving around the nuclear family, the emergence of the suburban middle class and most importantly
social conformity. This period was also marked as one of oppression towards those that did match the
image of a good American citizen such as African Americans, working women, and homosexuals. All
of these groups, more or less, were subjected to legislation that blatantly limited their freedoms as
American citizens as well as demonization through the media and propagandist images and news

results seem to tie in with what research shows, that 43 percent of all adults suffer adverse health
effects from stress. Given the potential health complications related to stress, it is fair to say stress
certainly is a health problem in America. (APA, 2006)
This article discusses the effects of stress on the family and how stress affects children to parents who
are stressed. The survey mentions how stress is affecting all of Americans from the children to the
parents, challenges in practicing healthy behaviors. Americans busy life keeps them from managing
stress successfully. The need to educate adults about effective strategies in dealing with stress. Parents
may think that they are dealing with their stress well and hiding it from their children but the key
findings in the surveys performed prove otherwise. In the survey, 91% of children reported they were
aware that their parents were dealing with stress by observing distinct behaviors such as arguing and
yelling.
There was a considerable amount of surveys performed to determine how stress affects adults and
children in America either emotionally or physically. The first study findings discussed how stress
affects children whether normal weight and overweight. Per the key findings, it was determined that
overweight children are significantly affected by stress than children who are at a normal weight.
Survey shows that children who are overweight are roughly over 30% more stressed about their
weight and the dealings in their life than a child with a normal weight. Per the health conditions stats,
these children were affected physically, stating over 48% of overweight children verses 33% of
children with a normal weight have trouble falling asleep at night.
The next survey findings are of the causes of stress for American families and distinguishes the
difference between what is perception and reality when it relates to stress. It discusses a few of the top
sources of stress for the average single American, which is money ranking at 76%, work at 70% and

Catch-22, by Joseph Heller
Catch 22 is a story about the different personalities that can be involved in a war. Out of all the
different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo
Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the
unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian as the main character, he constantly
tries to coward out of going to battle. The second character that will be described is Milo
Minderbinder, the archetypical business person of Catch 22.He runs the camp mess hall and controls
what everyone in the camp is buying, selling, and eating. Milo is constantly trying to control or
manipulate the economies around him, and after he gets a large commission ... Show more content on

It was like seditious and insidious too, and like socialist, suspicious, fascist and Communist. It was an
odious, alien, distasteful name, a name that just did not inspire confidence. It was not at all like such
clean, crisp, honest, American names such as Catchcart, Peckem and Dreedle. (Heller 210)
The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a worrying
doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about
Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart
s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that
name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question
Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s
tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After
Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the
other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. He realizes that he doesn t want to be in a war
like atmosphere anymore and starts to long for his trips throughout Italy. It is after these trips that
Yossarian tries to weasel his way out of the squadron by feigning sicknesses and pleading for Doc
Daneeka to claim him insane. Just because you re paranoid doesn t mean they aren t

Spanish Cuisine
Spanish Cuisine
The earliest settlers of Spain include the Iberians, the Celts, and the Basques groups. Then the
Phoenicians came, who were later followed by the Greeks, who ruled Spain until they were defeated
by the Romans. The last of the settlers to arrive were armies of Arabs and Berbers, whom were called
Moors. Fascinated with water, they developed irrigation systems and planted citrus and almond trees
in eastern and southern Spain.
The Phoenicians arrived from the Mediterranean and brought their sauces to Spain. The Greeks gave
the Spanish cuisine olives and olive oil though. Other cultures that have contributed to the Spanish
cuisine are the Jews and the Carthaginians. At one point in time, Christians, Jews and Moors lived ...

Paella is one of Spain s most recognized dishes. The ingredients and methods of how paella is made is
a prime culinary example of Spain s history and its people. Paella takes its name from the utensil in
which it is cooked and from the Spanish region on the shores of the Mediterranean where the union
and heritage of two important cultures, the Roman which gave them the utensil and the Arab who
contributed rice and saffron.
Andalusia is located in southern Spain. This region is where tapas originated. Andalusia is also the
world s largest producer of olive oil, which has influenced the flavor of this region. Green olives are
picked and are used in dishes such as tapas and black olives are used for making oil. Another
important dish that originated from Andalusia is gazpacho. It was originally recognized as peasant
food, which consisted of bread, olive oil and crushed garlic. Throughout the years, the ingredients to
gazpacho evolved with the addition of tomatoes.

What Is The Mood Of The Poem My Love By Lowell Analysis
There is Lowell, who s striving Parnassus to climb With a whole bale of isms tied together with rhyme
; He might get on alone, spite of brambles and boulders But he can t with that bundle he has on his
shoulders ; Fable for Critics, Lowell James Russell Lowell was a father and a husband, but most
importantly he was a man of literature. Lowell s works were greatly influenced by those around him,
events during his time, and events in his personal life. Lowell had to overcome many brambles and
boulders through his life, such as the death of his wife and the death of most of his children, which

This poem is happy and cheerful, it is about love and nature. The poem My Love is presumably
written about Lowell s late wife Maria. In it, Lowell writes about how much he loves this woman and
how perfect and awesome her love is. He talks about how selfless and fair she is, how kind and wide
her heart is, and how she is a blessing to be with. The mood of this poem is cheerful and appreciative.
Summer Storm is about the feeling of everything before a storm, what it s like to be in a storm, and the
calm a storm has when it parts. Lowell uses so much imagery in this piece that it makes the reader feel
like they are in the storm. Another poem by Lowell is called The Moon, he compares the moon to his
soul. The tone of this poem is very sad, angry, and lonely. It seemed like his personal tragedies may
have prompted him to write this piece. Lastly, there is Song, which is about a fair bud of a lily. The
sun, wind, and rain take care of it and it grows into a beautiful woman flower, but sadly and suddenly
it is struck by death during the process of its growth. One may inquire that this poem may have been
prompted by one of his person tragedies. Most of Lowell s works were effected by the joyful and the
tragic events that were afoot in his life. For example. My Love was written about his the love of his
life, and The First Snowfall was prompted by the death of his children. His works were also
influenced by the events in his time,

An Analysis OfMystery Of Iniquity, By Lauryn Hill
In a late Tupac Shakur interview in the early 90 s he said, it all comes down to we have to survive, we
got to survive here in this country, because I m not going back to Africa, we have to survive here .
Social injustice is what activist stressed during and after the civil rights movement. This paper is going
to explore the poem Mystery of Iniquity by Lauryn Hill. In this poem Lauryn Hill warns you of the
government, and the free world . This poem was written in 2002, during which police brutality was
very prominent. In the start of this century African Americans still lived in poverty, and was treated
unfairly in the court systems causing grief.
In Mystery of Inequity Hill stresses the social injustice that is going on around the world for the
African Americans. Social injustice is when the equals are treated unequal. It can also be
discrimination towards one group or many. Therefore, this poem Hill talks about and will focus and
talk about the inequality in the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery. The criminal
justice system is targeting black males and Hill recognizes this. The discrimination is how blacks were
treated unfairly. Last but not least, the poem express that slavery is still potent during this era. These
three brings the poem together expressing how Hill feels about the inequality for African Americans.
She says in When it all.../ all falls down.../ Telling you all.../ It all falls down (lines 4 7). This is saying
that the American system is falling and will fall eventually. Above all, In the Mystery of Inequity , Hill
talks about the history of inequity which is the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery.
Hill talks about the criminal justice system which is crooked and socially injustice in Mystery of
Inequity . She says, Witness despised / crooked lawyers / false indictments publicized (lines 19 21). In
this text Hill is saying that the legal (court) system is just a joke. It s made for the people who create
the laws. In line 20 Hill says crooked lawyers , because It s all about who has money which can help
you or be against you in court. In addition, Hill says, The more money you pay... the further away
solution (line 42). In this text Hill is

Childhood Development And Child Development Essay
My topic is Early Childhood Development and this is the finding to know if attending pre school or
head start would help the child s development and have the child more prepared for kindergarten. This
topic is based on the social learning theory and how each family teaches their child differently.
I have chosen to do my topic on Early Childhood Development because of my practicum being a
developmental center (Inspire), also because I have a passion in working with families and children.
This appeals to me because I know that if the families enroll their child in the pre school program, the
child will benefit from it and will be more prepared for kindergarten. Usually agencies like this prefer
low income parents and if you meet the requirements, there is a good possibility that the child will
attend. I have met families that would like their child to attend because they know that it is a better
outcome for them, but in their household, they have a high income. Some research says that the
children that attended early head start programs were more development ready for kindergarten.
Inspire has a Region Head Start (RHS) which is for 3 5 year old children and this program helps the
children socialize with others, solve problems and have other experiences, which will help them
become more self confident (Inspire, 2016).
The theory I will focus on is the Social Learning Theory. Albert Bandura theory explains that people
learn from one another, either from modeling, imitation

A Comparison Between Elizabeth Bishop And James Wright
Sephora Solomon
Professor Wojahn
Poetry ENGL 345
29 October 2017
First Paper: Elizabeth Bishop, James Wright comparison As masters of imagery, both Elizabeth
Bishop and James Wright composed vivid poetry as a road map to a significant closing. Bishop and
Wright often opted to dramatic gestures or statements at the closing of their poems rather than the
predictable expected metaphor. Use of dramatization leaves the reader with complete understanding of
the narrative s key message. Replacing the metaphorical ending to rather be embedded in the deep
imagery of their work.
In their days, Bishop and Wright lived as outsiders due to the social norms during the mid 1900 s. In
the mid 1900 s, women barely had any rights and faced many ... Show more content on

Bishop s The Fish and Wright s A Blessing are structured around metaphorical imagery to create
balance between beauty that is known and unknown. Both poems intentionally begin and end with
meticulous imagery for the reader to see through the story. Visionary insights of the speaker s
experience in each poem every step of the way builds the readers imagination.
The narrator of The Fish initially stresses to portray the fish as worn out comparing its skin to ancient
wall paper (Bishop 11). When the narrator caught the tremendous (Bishop 1) fish she observed he didn
t fight, but his gills fought the struggle to strain the terrible oxygen (Bishop 23) being in air. The
narrator illustrates visually dense phrases when comparing the fish eye to her own recognizing they
are larger than mine/ but shallower, and yellowed (Bishop 35 36). Not a shift in his eye then describes
his iris as seen through the lenses/ of old scratched isinglass (Bishop 40). Becomes an eye opening
moment for the speaker and even the boat, becoming a moment of empathy and understanding. I
stared and stared/ and victory filled up/ the little rented boat, (Bishop 67) the vivid personification
prepared the reader to understand the dramatic narrative. Completing the image for the reader,

use of imagery and personification suggests the fish to hold a

Strengths And Weaknesses In English Class
Did you know that 92 percent of all English students end up passing the class, but that only 84 percent
of choir students pass English class? In elementary school, I was able to write and read efficiently.
However, my comprehension of what as I read as I got older was not as good as it could have been. I
was able to read books and understand the main points, but often I would forget little details. My past
few years in English have been successful and I have been able to achieve many of the goals I have set
for myself as an English student. In this paper, I will address my strengths, my weaknesses, what I
enjoy the most, and how I learn the best. I have some strengths and weaknesses and ways I learn the
best doing hands on learning and activities. My strengths in English are writing papers and doing
hands on stuff. My weaknesses are comprehending things and doing bookwork. In my previous years
of English, I have done well and my grades are proof of that. I have averaged A s and B s. One of my
major strengths has been projects where I have to make a google slide presentation and then present it
in front of the class. Tests are also a strong point for me in English. This is because I am able to make
connections easily and link ideas back to main details. However, sometimes I struggle to make
connections if I did not understand or enjoy the material, but for the most part, making connections
and doing well on tests has always been a strength of mine. My struggles in English

And when he nearly has started a great career, his own brother committed suicide right before his
eyes. For a reason he doesn t even know. But this was where and when it all started. This was the great
impact on Coopers life. Cooper covered hundreds of stories, in the beginning he is in Sri Lanka, the
morning after Christmas. He explains why the tsunami has occurred. He cannot nearly describe the
feeling and what he sees. He feels like this was a part of him that was almost craving to see. After his
brother died, he thought seeing death was normal for him. He put himself into those dangerous
situations just to see more. I find it, that, the main conflict of this part was the fact that he was
searching for a conflict. Once he finally gets his hands on breaking news , he finds himself looking for
that story s, lets say, characters. Staring at a wall of pictures, trying to identify the members. It was
after similar events where he did not seem to care about what normal was. But Cooper, however, did
not know what that was. Instead the second he found out about the war in Iraq, he was on a plane, not
knowing at all where he would go from there. This I felt was the most crucial part in defining the
direction his life went to. His need to see blood and bodies was becoming into a conflict itself. He
described himself as beastly. He forgot what being normal was. This was rather disturbing, and very
negative direction to where his life was heading. This book is almost to

GPS systems in agriculture

GPS systems in agriculture are just crazy on how they work. It is crazy today to think that a tractor or
a piece on farm equipment can actually drive it self. GPS is a Global Positioning System it uses
satellite to tell you where you at and now will drive the tractor from point A to point B with the touch
of a button. I will explain how GPS works, how GSP has change since the first one, and how has GPS
changed farming.

In 1960 a scientist by the name of Dr. Ivan Getting left his position at Raytheon Company, and armed
with the knowledge of what was at the time the most advanced navigational technology in the world,
he began developing the Global Positioning System. Together with a team of aerospace engineers and
scientists, they started getting into the three dimension global positioning system concept. In 1957, at
the start of the Cold War and the Space Race, the U.S.S.R. launched Sputnik, the first Soviet satellite.
While observing Sputnik, U.S. scientists found out that they could track the satellite s orbit by
listening to the changes in its radio frequency using the Doppler effect, a technique that had previously
been used to describe why the pitch of a car s horn changes as it speeds away. In 1960, the knowledge
gained from tracking Sputnik, the U.S Navy was able to launch transit, the first satellite navigational
system, which was used to help guide the Navy fleets of missile submarines. In 1967, the U.S. Navy
developed the Timation technique, a system that used a highly stable, synchronized clock in the
satellite, a technology on which GPS was dependent by 1974, the first clocks were put into orbit. By
1978, the U.S. military launched the first four GPS satellites. Until 1983, GPS technology was
available for U.S. military use only, until a tragedy occurred that the benefits of GPS technology could
no longer be restricted from civilian use. In 1983, a civilian Korean Air airplane with 269 passengers,
was shot down after entering Soviet airspace killing all passengers. In response to this tragedy,
President Ronald Reagan said that when GPS technology was operational, it will be free and available
to the world . On Feb. 14, 1989, the first satellite was launched. On July 17, 1995, the GPS was
complete. This system consists of 24

Alison Bechdel Sparknotes
I believe that Alison Bechdel used this book as a platform to highlight the various challenges and
issues that some homosexual individuals among others in the LGBTQ community face. She wanted to
allow to the audience to empathise with this community in a different light. In some cases, when
people don t understand the unfamiliar, the tend to fear it. So, with this book, people from a variety of
backgrounds might have discussed the underlying issues in the LGBTQ community using her book.
With this being the starting point, some individuals, such as myself, were able to do some indepth
research about the LGBTQ community and understand it better. I am not really fond of graphic

She mentioned that her father was molested by a farm hand when he was young. Even though her
parents didn t act like a married couple, he trusted her enough to tell that deep of a secret to her. I feel
like she betrayed him even though he also betrayed her multiple times. That is not a secret a mother
should tell her children about their father. However, it also seems like the mother was blaming the
homosexuality on the molestation. Maybe that was her way of dealing with his unfaithfulness
especially with young men.
There are many instances where they show Bruce looking at young teenagers, or even interacting with
them. Her mother ignored the behavior and Alison, in the future, just didn t fully address his behavior.
The first instance was when Bruce looked at the altar boy and her mother just rolled her eyes at him.
Then Alison had a narration stating But would an ideal husband and father have sex with teenage
boys? (pg.17). It was quite a telling scene about her mother s attitude towards her father. She was
willing to let her husband prey after young boys instead of protecting them. It also surprised me how
hypocritical Bruce was. On their trip to New York, when John wandered off, Bruce was extremely
alarmed and he mentioned a phrase Chickenhawks . Elly defined them as men that prey on boys. This
shows that Alison was aware of his pedophilic ways but in a way chose to ignore them.
Although she chose to ignore some things

  • 2. Thucydides Accounts of the Degradation of Athenian Honor Thucydides account of the Peloponnesian war served as a window into Athenian societal culture. Carrying the reader from Pericles moving speech to the assembly, through Cleon and Diodotus oratory battle over the fate of Mytilene, and finally to the Athenian proposal to the Melians, Thucydides detailed the transformation of Athens from a state based on justice and freedom to a empire with a corrupted soul. This corruption did not occur over night, but was the result of increasing tyrannical behavior by the part of Athens in its interactions with other Greek city states. The stages of this development can be analyzed into three parts: Pericles war speech, the dialogue on Mytilene, and the Melian debate. Pericles speech was propagated by the horn of war against the Lacedaemonians. In the midst of the conflict, the Athenians called an assembly to determine their course of action. Their choices were to either agree to Sparta s demands, which included dismantling the siege of Potidaea, freeing Aegina from their rule, and cancelling their embargo of Megara, or war. At this juncture, the prime Athenian statesman, Pericles, presented his advice: never give in. For Pericles, Athens can never subjugate itself to any power and must fight for its autonomy. In order to win the war, Athens must focus on its people and avoid mistakes. They cannot base their campaign on saving their property, but keeping the integrity of their forces. This stance is exemplified as Pericles said, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evolution Of Presidential Elections The U.S. constitution assigned the task of handling elections to the states with the result being fifty diverse election systems. At the legislative level, elections for the U.S. House of Representatives are held every two years and the Senate elections are conducted every six years. Typically, the president s party will lose seats in most elections; however, incumbents have a strong propensity for winning reelection. The average campaign cost for a House of Representatives seat is over $1.7 million and the average cost for a Senate race is $10.5 million. Thus, candidates spend numerous hours raising money over the phone, through the mail, and at fundraising events. The money raised pays for everything from television ads to campaign paraphernalia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first phase is the nominating process. The states work with the national parties to firm up their specific primary election date. More Americans show up to vote in the general election than in the primaries. A winning nominee must pick up a defined number of convention delegates that are divvied out based on state population. Traditionally, a winner take all system where a candidate had to win all of the delegates in order win the state has been used by the Republican Party. Recently, the Republican Party has moved to the same system as the Democrats. The Democratic Party selects their candidate through a proportional representation system whereby the delegates are assigned based on the proportion of the vote the candidate wins. The second presidential election phase consists of the two major party conventions and takes place in the summer before the election. Conventions can give the party s nominee a lift in the polls, or an electoral boost, lasting days into weeks. The third phase of the presidential election is the general election, which begins after the conventions and ends on Election Day. During general election phase, two or three debates are held between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare And Contrast Arizona And Virginia Where to live? This is a question many people ask themselves, but narrow it down to two states such as Virginia and Arizona. While on the surface, Arizona and Virginia are beautiful states that most people would love to live in. But both states have their drawbacks from weather to the size of their state and population and politics. In another light they both have quite a few number of benefits such as accessibility and law enforcement. First most, Arizona is known as one of the hottest states with temperatures sometimes reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature has been proven to be able to cook food items such as eggs and cookie dough. In addition to having hot weather, during summer Arizona begins its monsoon season with heavy winds and occasional rain. While this may not be appealing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Especially due to weather, Arizona only has 6.931 million people residing in the state. Furthermore, agriculturally, Arizona is mainly famous for growing cotton and their 5 C s: cotton, cattle, citrus, cattle, and copper. In contrast, Virginia is widely known for growing tobacco. In addition, both states grow marijuana which rakes in more cash than other cash crops. Equally important, Arizona and Virginia are blessed with access to multiple utilities which are usually taken for granted. They have access to clean water, electricity, internet, cell service, and much more. Also, they have access to modern medical facilities for humans and animals. While they may be similar in accessibility, the median cost of homes differentiates significantly. The median costs of homes in Arizona are about $223,700. This comes to about $142 per square foot. • 7. What Are The Pros And Cons Of State PROS AND CONS OF ANY STATE LEVEL POLICY (500) The State in modern times is seen more as an enemy of the people then its agent, but it still retains many qualities that allowed the development of the modern world we live in. This chapter provides the main benefits of using the State as an agent for development as well as the negative sides. The main advantage of the State is hold up in its most basic concept, the State as a collective agent of its people (Parsons, 1949) that uses the power and capital of its individual citizens to promote and finance change on a bigger scale. Its main advantages in this case are its size, capital and legitimacy. Starting with capital, the state apparatus is huge (Niskanen, 1971), no matter it being a minimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And as peoples trust in the State to fulfil its tasks dwindles, so does the States power to provide those services (ibid.). But from a development perspective things are a bit different. Most problems in delivering services to citizens are financial in nature (Greve, 2012), but where a lack of funds might stop State led development, it is not detrimental to the State as an agent of it. For what is perceived good development practice there is always international funding (for example McGrath, 2015, Worldbank.org, 2015, Undp.org, 2015). This paper does not go into the debate of is good development practice good or not it takes internationally sponsored and promoted development practice as implicitly good. And for the sake of argumentation on is the State a good or bad agent of development it does not matter what kind of development it promotes. So this good development is taken as the one we want our states to be agents to. And the State relying on foreign sources of funding development practice when it lacks state funds for development might be positive. To clarify, a state that runs a budget deficit does not have the monetary power to start development policy. This allows for the internationally funded and tried out development practice to become the only development practice a state can enforce (finance), because it can fund it from external sources such as donations, ... She has very little power in the narrative since she is part of two repressed groups (slave and woman) (Ibbotson). She is praised by the narrator for her beauty and her loyalty. These are the traits that make her special but also responsible for the fact that she has little influence over what happens to her. Beauty makes her desirable for men regardless of whether she wants them to fall in love with her or not. This can be seen in the old king. She suffered all these brutalities by the hands of men who either wanted to possess her or claimed to love her (in Oroonoko s case both). The narrative ends with her as the narrator states: Yet, I hope, the reputation of my pen is considerable enough to make his glorious name to survive to all ages, with that of the brave, the beautiful, and the constant Imoinda (Behn, Oroonoko 224). In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around to view them. While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I would see. I saw television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries and a Pepsi; this one was the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my life. Another cool thing is that most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let you know what the art means and who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I liked the most and that one is the Pima Basket. in this work of art you see a Native American woman making bowls and a fire where she makes the pot a solid so they are able to use it for their needs. • 13. William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Essay Shakespeare wrote his plays without a thought that they would ever not be performed on stage. Many of Shakespeare s plays have been performed since his death 400 years ago. And with time comes advances, as many of Shakespeare s play have been adapted from text to film. Some films take Shakespeare s original plot and twist it to be more modern, while others stick with the classic. In Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 film version of The Taming of the Shrew, he recreates Shakespeare s loved play. Although Zeffirelli stays close to Shakespeare s original text, he does omit and add lines and scenes that weren t originally in the play. Zeffirelli also adds body language and stage directions where they aren t in the play. These directorial decisions change the way the romance looks between Katherina and Petruccio in the text. The relationship between the two characters in Zeffirelli s film is attempted to be seen as more consensual than in the text. Shakespeare s play The Taming of the Shrew begins with an Induction that isn t in Zeffirelli s film. The Induction in the film starts with a beggar named Christopher Sly who is very drunk and hasn t paid his bill. He gets kicked out of the tavern and picked up by a Lord who decides to play a trick on Sly. A major factor in why the shipmates died was the ship s conditions, the lack of protection, and the lack of guidance. The USS Indianapolis did not have superior ventilation. • 15. Exploring the Concept of Satire in A Modest Proposal by... A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and Top of the Food Chain by T. Coraghessan Boyle, both are short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing that ridicules human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of writing to bring about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the faults of society across to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution to the problems of human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using them for everything that they are worth on a daily basis. Swift creates a pamphlet and states six reasons as to why this is a brilliant idea. He states that money wouldn t be wasted on food, the number of Catholics would be reduced, it would be great inducement to marriages, there would be more food so the economy would increase, poor tenants would have money for their landlords, and it would be an improvement for the tavern business. Swift wants everyone to know how badly the Irish people are being treated by the English. He wants to change the reader s point of view through this sarcastic satirical pamphlet. The authors purpose of A Modest Proposal, is to try to change society. Swift is trying to reform the British official s involvement in Ireland. People are dying, and nothing is being done about it. • 18. The Physics of a Golf Ball Essay The Physics of a Golf Ball The first written reference of golf was in 1457. Golf balls have had extraordinary changes since that time; they ve gone from leather pouches to dried gum to today s dimpled balls. These dimples help decrease the drag and increase the lift. Different forces are applied to the golf ball when struck by the club. Golf clubs have grooves to create backspin. And then there are different variables that affect how a golf ball will travel, these include: lie angle and the shaft length. A golfer must never forget about the wind factor . And last but not least , a golfer must flat out use his own judgment in the game of golf. The game of golf has a science all of it s own, and even the best players have ... These guttie balls had two negatives; they sometimes broke into pieces as some modern solid balls have been known to do and they did not fly as well as the feather balls. None the less, as these balls were used their surfaces became roughened. Players soon realized, however, that cut up balls flew further and the concept of dimples was born. But why are dimples purposely molded into the modern day golf ball? This question deals with the way that air affects the flight of a spinning object (or aerodynamics if you will) and that s the bottom line. Moreover, two simple principles will be discussed in great detail hereafter: lift and drag. Let s not run faster than we are able though. Before we get on a rampage let s look at what experience has taught us about a spinning ball. A British scientist in 1887, Professor P.G. Tait owns all the credit to the findings concerning the importance of spin on the flight of a golf ball. He relates that in his youth he was taught that all spin is detrimental and he practiced assiduously to master the art of hitting a ball almost free of spin. After many complex and frustrating experiences, Professor Tait states clearly that, a ball driven with spin about a horizontal axis with the top of the ball coming toward the golfer, ... • 19. Tenure in America Essay Although there are many varying opinions on what revisions should be made to the tenure system in America, I believe that even though there are many complaints, Tenure needs to be maintained in order to promote academic freedom and educational security. Tenure is defined by Mathew Finkin as At the expiration of a period of probation, commonly not to exceed six years of full time service, a faculty member is either to be accorded tenure or to be given a terminal appointment for the ensuing academic year. Thereafter, the professor can be discharged only for just cause or other permissible circumstances and only after a hearing before a body of his or her academic peers (Finkin 3). Tenure, in recent years, has become a point of heated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unions don t grant tenure administrators do. Too many school boards and superintendents attack tenure rather than hold their own managers accountable for hiring and supervising teachers and, if necessary, removing those who don t make the grade. Tenure is granted by the board of education on recommendation of the superintendent but many schools do a poor job of evaluating and supporting teachers...Tenure s not about protecting bad teachers; it s about protecting good teachers. What would happen to teachers without tenure? They could and would be fired for virtually any reason. It s not hard to imagine teachers being dismissed because they failed the daughter of an influential businessman or because the school board president s nephew needed a job. In these fiscally troubled times, what would stop a school board from replacing a veteran teacher at the top of the pay scale with a first year teacher simply to save money? Tenure is the first line of defense against attacks on academic freedom. Teachers can engage their students in a free exchange of ideas only if they are protected from arbitrary dismissal for doing so. Tenure prevents school boards from arbitrarily dismissing teachers for holding political, religious or social views with which they disagree.[Tenure] protects academic freedom the way the First Amendment protects freedom of the press (NYSUT). All of these groups, more or less, were subjected to legislation that blatantly limited their freedoms as American citizens as well as demonization through the media and propagandist images and news stories. Stress is the state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances . The survey results seem to tie in with what research shows, that 43 percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress. Given the potential health complications related to stress, it is fair to say stress certainly is a health problem in America. (APA, 2006) This article discusses the effects of stress on the family and how stress affects children to parents who are stressed. The survey mentions how stress is affecting all of Americans from the children to the parents, challenges in practicing healthy behaviors. Americans busy life keeps them from managing stress successfully. The need to educate adults about effective strategies in dealing with stress. Parents may think that they are dealing with their stress well and hiding it from their children but the key findings in the surveys performed prove otherwise. In the survey, 91% of children reported they were aware that their parents were dealing with stress by observing distinct behaviors such as arguing and yelling. There was a considerable amount of surveys performed to determine how stress affects adults and children in America either emotionally or physically. The first study findings discussed how stress affects children whether normal weight and overweight. Per the key findings, it was determined that overweight children are significantly affected by stress than children who are at a normal weight. Survey shows that children who are overweight are roughly over 30% more stressed about their weight and the dealings in their life than a child with a normal weight. Per the health conditions stats, these children were affected physically, stating over 48% of overweight children verses 33% of children with a normal weight have trouble falling asleep at night. Out of all the different archetypes, the three I ve chosen are John Yossarian, Albert Tappman, and Milo Minderbinder, although, not in that order. The first character being analyzed is Yossarian, the unwilling hero of this book. Although the book labels Yossarian as the main character, he constantly tries to coward out of going to battle. (Heller 210) The quote above describes the relationship with Colonel Cathcart, in which Cathcart has a worrying doubt about Yossarian and his role in the squadron. Yossarian complains to Doc Daneeka about Colonel Cathcart s dictum regarding the mission count during every visit to the medical tent. Cathcart s opinion about Yossarian also dawns upon the other men who start to wonder about the man with that name and who he actually is. One of the main points within the story is when the soldiers question Yossarian during the death of Lt. Mudd, whom the men continuously call the dead man in Yossarian s tent (Heller 166). A character that changes Yossarian completely about war is Snowden. After Snowden s death, Yossarian is given a medal of honor for fighting through that battle, but unlike the other men, Yossarian shows up in a disorderly fashion. Social injustice is what activist stressed during and after the civil rights movement. This paper is going to explore the poem Mystery of Iniquity by Lauryn Hill. In this poem Lauryn Hill warns you of the government, and the free world . This poem was written in 2002, during which police brutality was very prominent. In the start of this century African Americans still lived in poverty, and was treated unfairly in the court systems causing grief. In Mystery of Inequity Hill stresses the social injustice that is going on around the world for the African Americans. Social injustice is when the equals are treated unequal. It can also be discrimination towards one group or many. Therefore, this poem Hill talks about and will focus and talk about the inequality in the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery. The criminal justice system is targeting black males and Hill recognizes this. The discrimination is how blacks were treated unfairly. Last but not least, the poem express that slavery is still potent during this era. These three brings the poem together expressing how Hill feels about the inequality for African Americans. Childhood Development And Child Development Essay My topic is Early Childhood Development and this is the finding to know if attending pre school or head start would help the child s development and have the child more prepared for kindergarten. This topic is based on the social learning theory and how each family teaches their child differently. I have chosen to do my topic on Early Childhood Development because of my practicum being a developmental center (Inspire), also because I have a passion in working with families and children. This appeals to me because I know that if the families enroll their child in the pre school program, the child will benefit from it and will be more prepared for kindergarten. Usually agencies like this prefer low income parents and if you meet the requirements, there is a good possibility that the child will attend. I have met families that would like their child to attend because they know that it is a better outcome for them, but in their household, they have a high income. Some research says that the children that attended early head start programs were more development ready for kindergarten. Inspire has a Region Head Start (RHS) which is for 3 5 year old children and this program helps the children socialize with others, solve problems and have other experiences, which will help them become more self confident (Inspire, 2016). In 1957, at the start of the Cold War and the Space Race, the U.S.S.R. launched Sputnik, the first Soviet satellite. In 1960, the knowledge gained from tracking Sputnik, the U.S Navy was able to launch transit, the first satellite navigational system, which was used to help guide the Navy fleets of missile submarines.
