Of Statement For A Purpose Of Mechanical Engineering
Statement Of Purpose
We live in an era where most of everyday life is made easy by inventions and innovations. Majority of
the inventions are done by integration of different technologies which allows the creation of complex
applications to become a reality, thus emphasizing its importance. Such integration could do
revolutionary changes in every aspect and helps reduce waste, times, costs, allows producing a
broader range of products. This highlights the importance of the powerful tools and concepts of
Mechanical engineering which when applied effectively can revolutionize the face of any system.
I have done my schooling from one of the country s best school where they always believed

Essay On Death Of Iran
The first 24 hours in Iran are crucial when a person dies In Iran. It is believed that a person should be
buried within the first 24 hours if the family does not want to be cursed. If the person dies during the
days they are taken to special places where the body is washed and wrapped in white cloth. The white
cloth should be of kafan, which is a special cloth but due to its high price, now its only white cloth.
Before they are warped with the kafan they warp the legs from belly button down, cover the eyes, and
breasts if female. After the body is wrapped they should tie each end with ropes and never the ends
should never be sewn. Before they are wrapped the deceased should also be cleansed by three things

In ancient times there was segregation in funerals where females could not attend the funerals of their
male relatives, but modern Iranians don t do this unless extremely traditional. Dressing in black for the
funeral is important for close relatives, and they should wear black for at least 40 days some last even
a year. To stop wearing black an elderly in the family must change colors signaling the end of the
mourn. The time of day is important for someone who died if the person dies during the day they are
taken to the local mosque to be cleaned and prepared for burial but if the person dies during the night
lights and candles are placed around the deceased because they believe that the body should not be left
in darkness for evil spirits to attack it. Burial sites cannot be shared with non Muslim cemeteries. The
excessive cost of grave sites has forced family members to be buried on top of each other. Before
pacing the body into the grave, the coffin is placed on the ground three times and lifted their times and
on the fourth attempt is finally placed on the grave. A gravedigger or a member of the family is on the
pit positioned to place the body according to religious prescriptions, the deceased is placed on the
right side facing Mecca, the face should be exposed and part of the kafan placed under the head where
a brick is placed. The gravestones most often contain verses from the Quran. If there is no gravestone,
the grave top should be higher than the

For a client that has lost his job as an automobile deal and is interesting in other career opportunities

Shallow Encoding Essay
The brain only stores meaningful information because:
The brain memorization process is very complex. Known as engrams, the brain encodes the
experiences by strengthening the connections between groups of participant neurons (Schacter, 1996).
Once formed, engrams vegetate until familiar signals bring them back into memory. There are two
types of encodings: shallow and elaborative. Used on a daily basis, the brain practices shallow
encoding to store short term memory. An example, in classroom practices of shallow encoding, is the
homework page and exercises assigned. On the other hand, long term memory storage happens thru
elaborative encoding by creating associations and connections with prior knowledge. For instance, in a

demonstration, projects, field trips (p.69), guided imagery, and mnemonics . Engaging students in

Magnificent Catastrophe Essay
Critical Book Review #1
In the book A Magnificent Catastrophe the author, Edward J. Larson, writes about all of the little
details that has occurred in the First Presidential Campaign in the 1800s. He begins his book with how
the two parties, the Republicans (Jefferson) and Federalists (Adams), were going to compete in who
will govern the United States now that it is a free country and no longer under Britain s rule. Although
they had at first been friends they soon became enemies because of how they believed the government
should be. Jefferson believed that the government should be a populist government that trusted
popular rule. While Adams believed that America should have a strong government and that al ...

Inputting the photographs of the men of that time put a face to who was talking and what their
thoughts were about at the time. Having the photographs of the electoral votes taught me how they
were shown to people in the newspapers and what each state voted for. The 1793 cartoon that showed
Thomas Jefferson leading the Federalists in a meeting taught me that people really thought they were
evil and horrible people as there is a devil in the corner watching the men talk. Also, Larson has
inserted at the end of his book pages titled Notes which helps the readers see exactly where he got his
information from and the years and by who in which had originally wrote the information. The pages
titled Notes is a positive because it shows that his evidence that he found about the election is credible.
The photographs, the small background details, and the pages titled Notes are the positives that Larson
has contributed in his book. The negative aspects of this book was that it was boring to me. Although I
did learn a lot from it it did not catch my interest of wanting to read other books that cover this topic
of the election. Another negative aspect is that the diction that were used in the book were most of the
time confusing and I did not understand it. Larson could have inserted some more interesting events
that occurred during the election. Although this book taught me more about the election I did not find
it interesting and the diction that

Research Paper On Arc De Seanmphe
The Arc de Triomphe, which is also known as the Arc de Triomphe de l étoile, is a huge, triumphant
arch in Paris, France. This monument is one of the world s best known memorial landmarks. It
remains at the focal point of the Place Charles de Gaulle, which was earlier called the Place de l étoile.
After Napoleon s incredible win at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he commanded the Arc de
Triomphe be built in order to praise the accomplishments of the French military. The arch, planned by
Jean François Thérèse Chalgrin, is 164 feet high and 148 feet wide. It sits in a round square, where 12
roads transmit, making a star. Development of the arch started on August 15, 1806, which was
Napoleon s birthday. Barely more than the base had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fancy sculptures praising military triumphs of the Revolution and the First Empire were completed on
the exterior of the arch s four platforms by François Rude, Jean Pierre Cortot, and Antoine Etex. The
most acclaimed of those sculptures is Rude s Departure of the Volunteers of 1792, also known as La
Marseillaise. Different surfaces are embellished with the names of several officers and fights. A
stairway of 284 steps extends from the lowest point to the highest point of the landmark; a lift goes
partially up the landmark. However, to get to the top, where a watching deck is found, you have to
climb the rest of the way. A little gallery with interesting displays on the history behind the arch lies
one level beneath the observation area. Underneath the arch is France s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
from 1921. A fire of recognition, which was first lit in 1923, is revived each night. A celebration
announcing the creation of the 1918 peace negotiation that finished World War I is held at the Arc de
Triomphe each year.
The Arc de Triomphe keeps on acting as a famous image of France, to the nation itself and to the
world. The caskets of many inspiring French presences, for example, Victor Hugo and Ferdinand
Foch, have briefly stayed there before their burial somewhere else. Also, victory parades often walk
past the curve, both those of attacking forces, for example, Germany, in 1871 and 1940, and of France
and its allies, for example, in 1918 and 1944 upon the freedom of Paris during World War II and in
1945 after the finish of the war in

Poverty Today s Day And Age Has Become More Common Than...
Poverty in today s day and age has become more common than ever before. Poverty involves not
being able to participate in activities that most other people are able to do (Raphael 2015, Lecture).
The topic of poverty connects with inequality, where living conditions produce material and social
deprivation that intensively threaten health and reduce the quality of life for an exclusive subset of the
population (Raphael 2011, preface). For children, this has been a disregarded subject and deserves
much more attention and consideration worldwide. In health, education, and material well being, there
comes this impression of children falling behind (Adamson 2010, p. 1). In a well established country
like Canada, the topic of poverty, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). The second dimension of inequality is the inequality in young people s achievement through their
education (Adamson 2010, p. 9). The third dimension of inequality involves three indicators that are
used in children s self reported health complaints; healthy eating; and frequency of vigorous physical
activity (Adamson 2010, p. 13). Through economic causes, its social costs and its possible remedies,
inequality has become a major concern over the last three decades (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Inequality is
an example of the changes in both the ability and effort it provides for further progress in all types of
fields that engage in human endeavor (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Before the economic crisis in 2008,
surveys were conducted to measure inequality and deploy data. Since well being has many
dimensions, survey s were conducted favoring multidimensional measurements (Adamson 2010, p. 3).
In terms of measuring the gap, based on the data that is available, there are two different methods that
are used for approximating how far behind children are being allowed to fall (Adamson 2010, p. 4).
The first method compares the child at the 10th percentile with the child at the 50th percentile. Then
the degree of inequality is measured by the gap in between these two individuals, and that is shown as
a percentage of the median position that exists. The second method compares the level of

Barbie Doll Marge Piercy Analysis
In the story barbie doll by Marge Piercy it s about a young normal girl growing up playing with dolls
and pretend make up. It takes a shocking turn when she is made fun of during her youth adulthood, for
have a big nose and fat legs. Futher into the poem she cut off her legs and nose and a very unusual
illustration of her laying in a casket with an conclusion that express to every woman a happy ending .
Within society a women desire to be flawless when it comes to looks. There s so much pressure and
eagerness when it comes to a female fulfilling that image of looking like barbie. There is proof to this
statement with the poet s use of irony, imagery and the impact of words having a bad outcome on the
self esteem of females.
Piercy s use of irony is detected within the title itself barbie doll . I envision it to revolve around the
ideal barbie image alot of people make great efforts to achieve. However, this is where the true irony
comes in. Barbies are popular for their unnatural slim bodies and perfect features and because they are
played with by little girls, that image becomes the image teenagers and girls look for. Yet, in the poem
the girl does not have barbie doll features. a fat nose on thick legs, (835) is what she was being teased
about because she hit puberty. Then in the magic of puberty Puberty is when your body begins to
change into an adult and there s nothing magical about that, especially for the little girl because it
caused her to be teased for her appearences.
In the last few lines of the poem, piercy refers to a happy ending it is a depressing thought.
Consummation at last. To every woman a happy ending (24 25) is very sarcastic and pessimistic. She
is basically saying that at last the end has come and its a feeling of pleasure since the girl got her wish,
but at what cost did she become a barbie.
The poet s use of imagery is all over the poem when we reflect on the girl childhood and how she was
teased for her fat nose on thick legs she doesn t resemble a barbie doll with perfect nose and legs. Her
good nature wore out like a fan belt. (15 16) There s imagery in this line because a fan belt breaks
quickly when it comes in contact with oil. So the on going disapproval

Brave New World Persuasive Essay
There s nothing like reading a good book, the feeling of knowledge that surrounds and with every turn

the only entity we read is gossip and political trash on our phones. Those little screens turn our
creativity into white and black images, they take way our sense of creativity and individuality.
Reading Brave New World, you begin to realize that the author was not too far off in the way he

The Worst Sort Of Husband By Daniel Defoe
The Worst Sort of Husband Daniel Defoe
The Worst Sort of Husband by Daniel Defoe was written to explain the different types of husbands
women deal with and their personalities. This analysis goes in depth on how diverse husbands can be.
There are five different husbands described in the analysis: the Drunken Husband, the Debauched
Husband, the Fighting Husband, and the Extravagant Husband. Each husband described was a male s
point of view of men for a sober woman s knowledge on who she wants to marry. The author, Daniel
Defoe was an English writer that lived in the 1700s. Daniel Defoe did not always have this name
because he changed his name to something that he personally thought was professional. Defoe wanted
his name to sound more like a gentleman s name and that is the name he chose. Defoe was a very
famous writer in the 1700s in London, England and was acknowledged by all his written work.

exactly people thought was humorous in the 1700s. If not humorous, this article was meant to be

woman can marry? . Children, males, and elders are the excluded audience of this article about
husbands. Children have yet to get married, men aren t necessarily interested in finding the worst sort

Psychological Perspectives And Related Research Studies
An outline and evaluation of three psychological perspectives and related research studies
Introduction
The behaviourist approach transformed psychology in 1913 when John Watson put forward the theory
that psychology should be about the study of observable behaviour ignoring all mental processes such
as thoughts and emotions (Malim 1998). He viewed introspection as not being a reliable and objective
method for psychological study and believed the aim of psychology should be to understand and
control behaviour (ibid). He proposed that psychology should be seen as a science using controlled
variables within experimentation (McLeod 2007a). This scientific approach made for a dependable
method of assessing behaviour, however, critics of this approach argued that this method created
artificial situations holding little ecological validity (ibid). Behaviourists also believe we are all born a
blank slate and that all behaviour is determined from learning from a person s own environmental
experiences either through classical conditioning, associating an external stimulus and a behavioural
response, or through operant conditioning, association via consequences where behaviour is shaped
through reward or punishment (Malim 1998). However this belief doesn t take into account a person s
spontaneity, creativity or their ability to solve problems without the time consuming trial and error
process that behaviourists believe is necessary (ibid). Furthermore it fails to take into

The Destructive Nature of the American Dream in F. Scott...
The concept of the American dream has been related to everything from religious freedom to a nice
home in the suburbs. It has inspired both deep satisfaction and disillusioned fury. The phrase elicits for
most Americans a country where good things can happen. However, for many Americans, the dream is
simply unattainable. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s Winter Dreams, Dexter Green, a hardworking young man
born into the middle class, becomes wrapped up in his pursuit to obtain wealth and status in his life.
These thoughts and ideas represent Dexter s fixation on his winter dreams, or, the idea of what the
American Dream means to him: gaining enough wealth to eventually move up in social class and
become somebody, someday. As Dexter attempts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

geared toward gaining the love of a beautiful woman who expresses the glamour and promise of the
exclusive world (Perkins). Dexter begins to strongly believe that Judy Jones is his key to unlocking
the world of the rich and wealthy. By illustrating the luxurious lifestyle of Judy Jones, Fitzgerald
reveals how she represents, to Dexter, what life is like for the rich and prosperous. As well as
representing the upper class lifestyle, Judy, through her beauty and manner, represents Dexter s dream
of obtaining a higher status that he has wished for ever since he was young. After passionately kissing
Judy and realizing that the
color and the mobility of her mouth gave a continual impression of flux, of intense life, of passionate
vitality, he discovers that he had wanted Judy Jones ever since he was a proud, desirous little boy
(Fitzgerald 1013). This life and passion that she presents shows that she offers more than just wealth,
but beauty and love as well. Malcolm Cowley, author of The Romance of Money,

Democratic Views Of The Athenian And Spartan Governments
The Athenian and Spartan governments had extremely different approaches to life. The democratic
views of the Athenians were open minded and curious, focused on development. The oligarchic views
of the spartans were more narrow minded and restricted, focused on constancy. The athenian
democracy distributed power very well and gave everyone a fair share in the decision being made.
Athenian life was comfortable and free, the polar opposite to the cruelty of Spartan life. The Athenian
democracy also used their wealth very wisely inciting the development of their civilisation. Based on
the information below, the Athenian population lived a happier life.
The way the athenian government gave power was very effective and fair. Power is the hands not of a
minority but of the whole people (From Alternative Two, from Thucydides, History of the
Peloponnesian War) In the Athenian democracy decisions are made by a vote of the majority and then
a decision is made by the outcome of the vote. Since all citizens could hold government positions
(From powerpoint used in class, Athens and Sparta) The majority was making decisions based on
what the people wanted modified or advanced, not a unwanted aristocratic tyrant like in the Spartan
oligarchy. The citizens of sparta did not have this luxury. We give obedience to those whom we put in
positions of authority (From Alternative Two, from Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War)

Reconstruction On African American Freedom
Freedom is not a term with a simple definition or interpretation. While the basic understanding of
freedom is for one to have certain rights and liberties as a citizen, the American notion and application
of freedom have certainly changed since its very beginning as a nation. A crucial part of America s
history that challenged the idea of true American freedom for citizens was the Reconstruction Era.
Although the Union troops were pulled out of the South and ended de jure segregation, the emergence
of Jim Crow laws at the end of Reconstruction facilitated de facto segregation. Instead of completely

elites who were upset by the loss of the confederacy and resented Radical Reconstruction felt betrayed
by the of corruption presided over by unscrupulous carpetbaggers, traitorous scalawags, and ignorant
freedmen (Lecture Recon.). The Dunning School view that emerged in the early twentieth century
supported these white supremacists ideas and popularized that black suffrage had been a political
blunder and that the Republican state governments in the South that rested upon black votes had been
corrupt, extravagant, unrepresentative, and oppressive (Lecture Recon.). Foner argues that liberals
started echoing white southerner s complaints that Reconstruction violated principles of good
government by expelling me of property from power, and that gullible lower class voters throughout
the country were being coerced (119). Eventually, the nation experienced such travesties... as the
Tweed Ring of New York City because of the additional voters (119). Overall, this view of
Reconstruction condemned the

Critical Analysis Of Richard Georg Strauss s An Alpine...
Richard Georg Strauss was born June 11th, 1864, he was one of the leading German composers of the
late Romantic and early Modern eras. He is known for his operas such as Elektra, Die Frau one
Schatten, and Salome. The composition I am going to analyze from Richard Strauss is his An Alpine
Symphony. An Alpine Symphony begins in low volume, leaving me with a feeling of suspense. The
instruments that commenced the piece was a fragment of the string section known as the second
violins. The string section completely joined in but became over taken by a fragment of the brass
section which was the trombones. The trombones played a long note, this theme reminds me of a
funeral because of how silent the musicians are playing their instruments. ... Show more content on

New instruments were introduced in this section, the instruments introduced are the timpani and the
crash cymbals. The timpani and crash cymbals are two members of the percussion section. The
timpani and crash cymbals brought back a sentimental value to me, making me feel happiness because
a few years ago, I learned how to play both instruments for the Knox Pride of Troy Band. The two
instruments bring in excitement, the crashing of the cymbals and the rumble of the timpani are two
loud figures, I believe this section represents the composers emotion when he was waking up from a
long night of sleep. Strauss probably felt an attachment to the day time because it is possible that he
did his best work during the day time. The xylophone was ultimately annexed during this section as
the final member of the percussion section. Like the previous section Night , the light section began to
annex in the french horns, trombones, and string section. The strings along with the timpani and
trombone added a dramatic feeling making me feel warm inside because of how clear and filled with
emotion they played. The light section ends with an allegro movement of the timpani, the woodwinds
join in, and the trumpets are officially
Partlow III introduced to end the section. The section kept a high volume, it would never drop, it
would constantly rise piece by piece. One piece that did not effect me was the coda, because I was
already used to the coda of the previous section,

Mexican American Racism
Mexican American (Chicano) first generation back in 1960 were not treated with respect. They were
mistreated and had to deal with racism. The school district did not offer them the same rights as any
other students, they did not give them classes to get ready for college. Thousands of students who
attended high school in Los Angeles were fed up of being treated like if they were less than anyone
else. They decided to take action and thirteenth students organized blowouts. Students started
walkouts because they were being mistreated and discriminate. They were not offered the same rights
as a white teenager. Also, they were not allowed to speak Spanish at any time during School hours.
Chicanos were dropping out of school and not graduating, only 1 out 4 students were graduating
because they were treated unequally. Mexican American students throughout the Southwest held a
60% high school dropout rate. If they did graduate, they averaged an 8th grade reading level. Due to
Anglo centric internal school policies, many Chicano students were fielded to vocational training or
classes for mentally disabled. The schools would not do anything to help them and made sure they
graduated high school. Not many Chicanos were going to college after high school because they were
not given the opportunity to go. In school, chicanos were separated from all the students and were
given different classes. Instead of getting a class to prepare them for college they would give them

Management Planning Paper
Lemont Feb 27, 2008
Management Planning Paper In management, each of the four functions, planning, organizing,
leading, and controlling, are crucial to the development of any business. Involving employees in the
planning process help them understand the goals of the organization. Planning is analyzing a situation,
determining the goals that will be pursued, and deciding in advance the actions needed to pursue the
goals. This paper will evaluate the planning function of the Halliburton Company and analyze the
impact that legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibilities have on management planning
along with examples of each, and analyze three factors that influence strategic, tactical, operational,
and contingency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Halliburton is a major provider of engineering services, particularly to the energy sector. Halliburton s
accounting practices on cost overruns on construction jobs was investigated. The former CEO of
Halliburton, who was in charge when those accounting practices were introduced, Dick Cheney,
currently Vice President of the United States. A suit was filed that alleged Mr. Cheney conspired,
along with others at Halliburton, to file false financial statements and thereby mislead investors. The
suit claimed Halliburton s deceptive accounting procedures led to overstatements of revenue
amounting to as much as $445 million in a three year period during Mr. Cheney s tenure as CEO
(Gutman, 2002). Today s competitive environment requires managers to continually upgrade the skills
and performance of employees and their own. Such constant improvement increases both personal and
organizational effectiveness. It makes organization members more useful in their current job and
prepares them to take on new responsibilities (Bateman, Snell, 2007). Some factors that influence
Halliburton strategic, tactical, operational and contingency planning are diversity training, staffing,
performance appraisal, and so forth. Diversity training focus on building awareness of diversity issues
as well as providing the skills employees need to work with others who are different from them.

19 Minutes, By Jodi Picoult
19 minutes is a book written by Jodi Picoult that describes a school shooting. This book was written in
a pretty unique way, because instead of having story told by sequential events from one perspective, it
is told from many perspectives, from different times, and in different orders. For example, one
moment you could be reading from the point of view of the shooter during the event, and the next you
re reading from the point of view of a student 6 months after. The author uses different points of view
and a non linear timeline to tell a unique story. Jodi Picoult uses different points in time for each
chapter, but it isn t a random order. Whenever there is a change in time, it is because it logically
follows what you just read. What ends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the book, you get to see through the eyes of the shooter, the judge, the judge s daughter, the
shooter s parents, the shooter s lawyer, and the main detective on the case. I might even be missing a
few, but these viewpoints were the most used. This ties in well with my previous point where I said
the author used different points in time. Not only do you get to see different views, but also you get to
see each viewpoint at many different times. One chapter you could be reading about what the judge
was doing before her daughter was born, and the next chapter you could be reading about what the
lawyer and his family is going through near the end of the case. There are a few characters and
moments that I think showcase how well these viewpoints were done in this book. One of them is the
different viewpoints during the shooting. While the first time the shooting is described we only see
from the detective, later on we get to witness it again from other s eyes. This line is from Patrick s
view, Turning a corner, Patrick slipped on blood and heard another gunshot, this one loud enough to
ring her ears. (Picoult, 22) and this line is from Josie s view, As the gun fires, it ripper two stripes of
her skin from the base of her thumb. Her hands jerked upwards. (Picoult, 440). These two lines are
talking about the same gun shot, but Patrick s line is from the beginning of the book, and Josie s line is
from the very end. Another part of the book that I think benefited well from different viewpoints is the
relationship between Josie and her mother, Alex. The two don t have a very deep relationship in the
beginning, which is shown by Josie many times, The last place Josie wanted to go was out to dinner
with her mother. (Picoult, 150). Josie usually tries to avoid her mother and thinks she doesn t
understand her. From Alex s view, she feels like she hasn t been a very good mother to Josie and often

Gainesville Case
One common expense that goes along with selling a home is paying real estate commissions. While
real estate commission rates are hardly set in stone , they average is 6 percent of the sales price in a
typical sale. However, many sellers in a down market will try to maximize their net profit and
negotiate commission down with an agent. In fact, I know many agents willing to reduce commissions
down to 4 percent, giving a buyer s agent the standard 3 percent and taking only 1 percent for

I had spent about a year researching various places to move and I identified Gainesville as a great
place, a conclusion also reached by Money Magazine in 1995. One of the reasons I thought
Gainesville would be a good move was the low cost of housing. My first purchase was a mobile home,
on a one acre lot, in a nearby city. That worked out very well. The seller s agent made a mistake at
closing that saved me $2,500 on what was supposed to be a $28,000 transaction. The mortgage was
five years and paid off on time. I still own the lot though the mobile home is no longer there. A couple
of years later I bought my first house in Gainesville. I grew up in New York City. Half a million
dollars would not buy the attached house with the postage stamp sized backyard I grew up in. I also
lived in Boston in the 1980s, where $250,000 would buy a large, though very chic walk in closet. My
first house in Gainesville was on the city line and cost me $40,000 in a private, owner financed sale. It
came without an A/C system but a small window unit made up for that. It sat on a 1/4 acre lot,
virtually unheard of now in Boston or New York. I paid 10% down and got a 30 year mortgage at a
very acceptable rate of 6.5%. Over the next couple of years I bought, and still own, three more houses

Johnny Got His Gun Analysis
Leaving the Harbor Every individual comes to a point in their life in which they begin to swim away
from the harbor their parents raised them in, and begin navigating their own life. Dalton Trumbo
uniquely portrays the familiar concept of coming of age, within a passage from his novel Johnny Got
His Gun, in which he depicts a son wanting to take a friend fishing instead of his father who has taken
him annually during their camping trip. Trumbo gives insight into the internal turmoil that strikes
when confronting ones parents about wanting to drift away from the anchor they ve been for them. He
clearly articulates his point, illustrating the flow in thought from tense to reflective using precise
selection of detail, applying a shift in point of view, and naturalistic imagery. Trumbo shifts the tone
from tense to reflective through effectively selecting details which portray the impact of the encounter
between the father and son. Opening the passage Trumbo asserts the significance of the tradition by
carefully depicting the campsite, in a way which he conveys an atmosphere of nostalgia. Describing
how his memories included the pine needles...falling on their tent, sitting staring into the fire, fishing,
and hearing the streams which connected the lakes throughout the night. Reveling an appreciation of
company is present in the boy s childhood which lays the foundation for his anxiety to inform his
father of his wants, as the two were once connected like the streams and

Why Is Hmong Culture Important
Many cultures have certain traditions that are very important to them. For example, the Hmong culture
has a tradition about marriage. When a Hmong man wants to get married and start a family, he has to
ask two specific men called Mekoob , to go with him to his women s house and formally ask the
parents for their daughter s hand in marriage. They later talk about the wedding plan and the price for
everything. The husband and his family have to pay for all the expenses. There is also a tradition

The Jewish culture has a tradition called a Bar and Bat mitzvah. This tradition is to signify that a boy
and a girl are old enough to be called a woman or a man. Also, this will give responsibility to the soon

their own actions. To take responsibility in what they do wrong and what they do right. This ceremony
usually start at the age of 13 for boys and the age of 12 for girls. Though, Bar and Bat mitzvahs are

ceremony, the groom agrees to be bound by the terms of the ketubah, or marriage contract. The
ketubah details the obligations of the groom to the bride, which are food, clothing and marital
relations. A traditional Jewish wedding ceremony takes place under wedding canopy, symbolizing the
new home being built by the couple when they become husband and wife. Some Jewish culture has a
custom to cover the face of the bride, followed by a prayer. The husband is then led under the wedding

Analysis Of Mud By Maria Irene Fornes
Mud (1983) is one of Maria Irene Fornes s best plays. Like Fefu and her Friends, it is set in the
preindustrial society (Savaran 2012, 56); the incidents take place in a small unnamed rural town in the
1930s when feminism was not firmly established, and women were struggling to get their rights. The
play revolves around three characters, Mae, the only female character in the play, and two male
characters, Lloyd, her illiterate foster brother and former boyfriend, and Henry, her neighbour and new
boyfriend. The society in which Mae lives is a patriarchal one where she was previously dominated by
her father and later by Lloyd. In such a society women are considered subordinate to and of lower
rank than men. They are looked upon as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Explaining her relationship with Lloyd to Henry, Mae says: He [Lloyd] has always been here since he
was little. My dad brought him in. He said that Lloyd was kind and that he would keep me company.
He said he was old and tired [...]. My dad was good but he was sad and hopeless and when my mom
died he went to hell with himself. He got sick and died and he left Lloyd here [...]. I don t know what
we are. We are related but I don t know what to call it. We are not brother and sister. We are like
animals who grow up and mate. (Fornes, Mud 1986, 28)
Both Mae and Lloyd suffer from poverty. However, Lloyd is careless; he mindlessly looks after their
pig and farms the land. He is highly dependent on Mae; besides, he is satisfied with his own status. On
the other hand, Mae toils in ironing clothes in order to support herself and Lloyd; she is the sole
breadwinner of the family. Additionally, she prepares food. Mae is unsatisfied with her own
conditions; she yearns to improve herself and her life, and plans to escape from the sexual and
economic exploitation of Lloyd. She is aware that her aspirations can be achieved through education.
Consequently, she attends literacy classes at a school; she as Mala Renganathan expresses it, dreams
of educating herself and making herself literate (2010, 8). Lloyd is entirely unlike Mae, he is not eager

Apology, By Plato s Apology
I know, I do not know, are the words that constitute Socrates philosophy that The only true wisdom is
in knowing you know nothing. In Apology, written by Plato, this ethical belief makes a bold
appearance demonstrating that true ignorance only revolves around those who think that they know
everything. In Apology, Socrates learns that the wisest men are those who do not think of themselves
of wise, and rather make an approach of going beyond an authentic method of inquiry and helping
others seek their personal philosophies which may result in conflict. In Plato s Apology, Socrates
demonstrates that introspection is the key to living life with purpose. Socrates knowing himself, held
in certain that he had no wisdom small or great (Plato, trans. 1871). Upon hearing the prophecy about
him from the Oracle of Delphi asserting that there was no man wiser than him in all of Athens, he
became puzzled (Plato, trans. 1871). In response to the message about him from the Oracle of Delphi,
Socrates felt obliged to disprove this statement by seeking a wiser man, and once found he would
refute the prophecy by affirming to God Here is a man who is wiser than I am; but you said that I was
the wisest (Plato, trans. 1871). Socrates embarked on a search for men with the reputation of wisdom.

Molillie Goldman Analysis
Mollie Goldman s piece titled NOW THEN: NEVER AGAIN symbolizes the perspective of a young
boy who survived the Holocaust. This piece was made in 2014 in honor of Jacob Hennenberg, a
Holocaust survivor. The artist Mollie Goldman is a young aspiring artist and a 10th grade student from
Fuchs Mizrachi School in Beachwood, Ohio. This aesthetic piece is an acrylic painting on canvas.
Goldman evokes a strong intellectual reaction from her audience through the details and cues she uses
in her painting to channel her message. First and foremost, the Holocaust began in January 1933 in
Germany when Hitler came into power. The book Holocaust: The Events and Their Impact on Real

Persuasive Essay On Water Conservation
Before tackling the problem of water conservation, it is crucial to know the aspects of the issues.
Water depletion results from lack of precipitation and dwindling amounts of snow pack that allow the
use of run off. Due to the gradual increase of climate, both of these water supplies have decreased and
research has shown the continued drop in water reserves. At this rate, the demand for water will
outweigh its supply, leading to massive drought. California especially faces this problem since it uses
the most water out of all fifty states in America. The California Water Science Center states that on
average, each Californian uses 181 gallons of water every day, which amounts to about 355,000
million gallons a year. They also state that in a typical Southern California city, the most annual
rainfall gained is 19.5 inches, which is not enough to sustain large communities. This data shows why
it is critical to conserve current stored water and reduce the use of future water obtained. A common
action that members of communities plagued with drought often participate in is wasting water while
waiting for their sink to get hot. This small daily task can waste gallons of usable water and adds to
the problem of a drought. To solve this issue, one does not need a high IQ or large amounts of money,
simply a large pitcher or container of some kind. While waiting for sink water to get hot, once can
simply fill up a container with the water that is running. Once the water is at its

the glass, front doors to see my family parked in the teeming parking lot. As soon as I got into the car,
my dad hit the gas pedal and we were off to our beloved destination. Hours passed and we neared the
beach, and I could see the ocean and the grainy sand. We were almost there and I could not contain my
enthusiasm. I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning! We got to the parking lot and I could see
the towering building above me awaiting my presence. I leaped out of the car with my items and
headed straight to the glass doors. I sped up the stairs, to the third floor, down the hallway, to the sixth
door on the right. I dropped my stuff off into the room and went straight outside and out to the beach
because I could not wait any longer. Wow. I said as I stuck my feet in the scorching sand and felt the
heat pass in between my toes as I walked across the beach. I

However, this process needs to be automated and accessible to their Chinese manufacturer so they are
better able to prepare to fulfill the orders in a timely manner. This purchase order process should be
combined with a plan that incentivizes their manufacturer to process their orders quicker. They also
need to penalize the manufacture for faulty products and late delivery. Although they currently have a
Quality Control process they should have their own representative participate in the QC the process in
China. Since Somerset has the machinery to make the custom furniture, part of the agreement should
include requiring their Chinese manufacturers to use them. They also need to find other manufacturers
so that they can mitigate the risk if their primary manufacturer experiences a problem meeting the
deadline or there is a problem with the shipping deadlines. New Product Release: Somerset should re
evaluate how they introduce new products and phase out old product lines. For example, instead of
replacing the entire product line at the same time they could introduce new products that replace the
products are beginning to experience a drop off in demand. They should also examine the cost of
replacement parts. They should look for ways to replace the faulty parts at a minimal cost.
Standardized Parts: Somerset should identify parts that can be made interchangeable. The use of
standardized parts would cut down on the time and skill required to make the furniture without

Religion s Rise Up And Fall Away
Religions continually rise up and fall away. Mormonism is a recently developed religion that started in
the 1820s. Founded by Joseph Smith while living in New York State Mormonism has had many
struggles due to its radical beliefs that went against orthodox Christianity which at that time was
invigorated with righteous passion. Mormonism was founded while Joseph Smith lived in Palmyra,
NY. Before he lived in Palmyra, he lived in Sharon, Vermont, the place of his birth. He was born on
December 23, 1805 to Joseph and Mary Smith. Shortly after his birth, the family fell on hard times.
The Smith family moved to Palmyra New York and set themselves up in the only profession they
knew, farming. While in New York, his mother attended a Presbyterian church but the rest of the
family went into magic and pursued seekerism and seer stones. The Smiths went on several treasure
hunting expeditions. While on these expeditions, the family would put seeing stones into their hats
believing that they would see a revelation of where treasure was located. When Joseph was 14, he
walked into the woods and prayed to God for guidance on which church to attend. He received a
vision of God and Christ, saying to join none of them as they were all corrupt. Years later, Smith
claims to have been visited by the angel Moroni. He tells Smith about a set of golden plates containing
the history of a ancient South American civilization. He told Smith where to find a sealed stone box
containing these plates.

Swiss Chocolate
Introduction There are some foods that no one can refuse even if it s forbidden for them. Chocolate is
that sort of tempting item that most of the people can often resist. Old or young, every individual from
different ages can not resist its sublime temptation. So, most people cannot resist the temptation of
eating chocolates. Let it be a festival or an ordinary snack, chocolate may be there as one of the
delicious dishes. The wonder of its taste is so wonderful that it develops even chocoholics like
alcoholics. There are some people who even eat a lot of chocolates to get over tough times. Of course
this mouth watering wonder from heaven can also serve the purpose of gifts, especially on romantic
occasions and so on. Thus, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Louis Cailler: (1796 1852). As a young boy he tasted chocolate for the first time at a fair. He went to
Italy to work in a chocolate factory at Milan in the early stages of his life. He returned home as an

Daphne, A Naiad-Nymph Of The River Peneus
Daphne was a Naiad Nymph of the river Peneus in Thessalia and the daughter of the river god Peneus.
Nymphs were female spirits of the natural world and crafters of nature s beauty, from the growing of
the trees and flowers to the formation of wetlands, brooks, grottos, and springs. (Atsma) Her father,
the river god Peneus, was tried several times because Daphne would not accept any of the handsome,
eligible young men who wanted her. Her father would scold her by saying, Am I never going to have a
grandson? which Daphne would answer with Father, dearest, let me be like Diana. . (Hamilton 119)
Her father would surrender from these conversations and let her off into the woods, which she had the
freedom to do what she desired. Daphne became like Diana, also known as Artemis, by living as a
perpetual virgin and a wild huntress. Daphne is said to have been Apollo s first love, but it turned out
to be a one sided love.
One day, Eros, the god of love, was taunted by Apollo, the god of prophecy, when he told Eros to
leave bows and arrows to those who were more capable of using them after he defeated Python.
(L.Roman and M.Roman 130) Eros wanted revenge and decided to shoot Apollo and Daphne with
arrows that had opposite reactions. Apollo was struck with a gold tipped arrow that made him fall in
love with whoever he set his eyes on while Daphne was hit by a lead tipped arrow that made her
become even more uninterested in any man she had ever seen. (Cotterell 32) When Apollo saw

Witness for the Prosecution
The mystery, Witness for the Prosecution , was produced in 1957 by Arthur Hornblow, Jr. and directed
by Billy Wilder. The two lead male actors were Tyrone Power as Leonard Vole and Charles Laughton
as Sir Wilfrid Robarts. The lead female actor was Marlene Dietrich as Christine Helm. Witness for the
Prosecution superbly demonstrated a realist view of the operating procedures in a courtroom. The
actors within the courtroom were easy to identify, and the steps transitioned smoothly from the arrest
to the reading of the verdict. The murder trial of Leonard Vole provided realistic insight into how laws
on the books are used in courtroom proceedings. With the inferior elements noted, the superior
element of the court system in Witness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defense for Vole was nonexistent until a stranger provided damaging evidence against the
prosecution s most damaging witness.
For the defendant to be found guilty of murder, the burden is placed on the prosecutor to prove the
defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 33). In other words, the
prosecutor, Mr. Myer must present a strong case to satisfy the jury that charges against the defendant
are almost certainly true (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 35). When the trial started, the evidence was
strong enough for a guilty verdict. The prosecution had three witnesses to support the claim that Vole
killed Emily French. The first witness, Inspector Hearne, provided the court with blood evidence on
the sleeve of Vole s jacket; however, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid disputed the evidence
because Vole s blood type was not excluded as the donor. The second witness was Janet McKenize,
Mrs. French s hard of hearing housekeeper, who stated she heard Vole and Mrs. French talking on the
night of the murder; nevertheless, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid discredited her testimony
when he proved to the jury that she was hard of hearing. The climax of the prosecution came when
Mr. Myers, after objections by Sir Wilfrid, called Christine Helm, Vole s wife, to the stand. Christine
was thought to be the wife of Vole but provided

It is believed that a person should be buried within the first 24 hours if the family does not want to be cursed. Known as engrams, the brain encodes the experiences by strengthening the connections between groups of participant neurons (Schacter, 1996). Once formed, engrams vegetate until familiar signals bring them back into memory. There are two types of encodings: shallow and elaborative. Used on a daily basis, the brain practices shallow encoding to store short term memory. An example, in classroom practices of shallow encoding, is the homework page and exercises assigned. On the other hand, long term memory storage happens thru elaborative encoding by creating associations and connections with prior knowledge. For instance, in a classroom ... • 6. Magnificent Catastrophe Essay Critical Book Review #1 In the book A Magnificent Catastrophe the author, Edward J. Larson, writes about all of the little details that has occurred in the First Presidential Campaign in the 1800s. He begins his book with how the two parties, the Republicans (Jefferson) and Federalists (Adams), were going to compete in who will govern the United States now that it is a free country and no longer under Britain s rule. Although they had at first been friends they soon became enemies because of how they believed the government should be. Jefferson believed that the government should be a populist government that trusted popular rule. While Adams believed that America should have a strong government and that al ... Having the photographs of the electoral votes taught me how they were shown to people in the newspapers and what each state voted for. The 1793 cartoon that showed Thomas Jefferson leading the Federalists in a meeting taught me that people really thought they were evil and horrible people as there is a devil in the corner watching the men talk. Also, Larson has inserted at the end of his book pages titled Notes which helps the readers see exactly where he got his information from and the years and by who in which had originally wrote the information. This monument is one of the world s best known memorial landmarks. It remains at the focal point of the Place Charles de Gaulle, which was earlier called the Place de l étoile. After Napoleon s incredible win at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he commanded the Arc de Triomphe be built in order to praise the accomplishments of the French military. The arch, planned by Jean François Thérèse Chalgrin, is 164 feet high and 148 feet wide. It sits in a round square, where 12 roads transmit, making a star. A stairway of 284 steps extends from the lowest point to the highest point of the landmark; a lift goes partially up the landmark. However, to get to the top, where a watching deck is found, you have to climb the rest of the way. A little gallery with interesting displays on the history behind the arch lies one level beneath the observation area. Underneath the arch is France s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 1921. Poverty involves not being able to participate in activities that most other people are able to do (Raphael 2015, Lecture). The topic of poverty connects with inequality, where living conditions produce material and social deprivation that intensively threaten health and reduce the quality of life for an exclusive subset of the population (Raphael 2011, preface). For children, this has been a disregarded subject and deserves much more attention and consideration worldwide. Through economic causes, its social costs and its possible remedies, inequality has become a major concern over the last three decades (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Inequality is an example of the changes in both the ability and effort it provides for further progress in all types of fields that engage in human endeavor (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Since well being has many dimensions, survey s were conducted favoring multidimensional measurements (Adamson 2010, p. 3). In terms of measuring the gap, based on the data that is available, there are two different methods that are used for approximating how far behind children are being allowed to fall (Adamson 2010, p. 4). It takes a shocking turn when she is made fun of during her youth adulthood, for have a big nose and fat legs. Futher into the poem she cut off her legs and nose and a very unusual illustration of her laying in a casket with an conclusion that express to every woman a happy ending . Within society a women desire to be flawless when it comes to looks. There s so much pressure and eagerness when it comes to a female fulfilling that image of looking like barbie. There is proof to this statement with the poet s use of irony, imagery and the impact of words having a bad outcome on the self esteem of females. Piercy s use of irony is detected within the title itself barbie doll . I envision it to revolve around the ideal barbie image alot of people make great efforts to achieve. However, this is where the true irony comes in. Barbies are popular for their unnatural slim bodies and perfect features and because they are played with by little girls, that image becomes the image teenagers and girls look for. Yet, in the poem the girl does not have barbie doll features. a fat nose on thick legs, (835) is what she was being teased about because she hit puberty. Then in the magic of puberty Puberty is when your body begins to change into an adult and there s nothing magical about that, especially for the little girl because it caused her to be teased for her appearences. In the last few lines of the poem, piercy refers to a happy ending it is a depressing thought. Consummation at last. To every woman a happy ending (24 25) is very sarcastic and pessimistic. She is basically saying that at last the end has come and its a feeling of pleasure since the girl got her wish, but at what cost did she become a barbie. The poet s use of imagery is all over the poem when we reflect on the girl childhood and how she was teased for her fat nose on thick legs she doesn t resemble a barbie doll with perfect nose and legs. Her good nature wore out like a fan belt. (15 16) There s imagery in this line because a fan belt breaks quickly when it comes in contact with oil. So the on going disapproval ... Psychological Perspectives And Related Research Studies An outline and evaluation of three psychological perspectives and related research studies Introduction The behaviourist approach transformed psychology in 1913 when John Watson put forward the theory that psychology should be about the study of observable behaviour ignoring all mental processes such as thoughts and emotions (Malim 1998). He viewed introspection as not being a reliable and objective method for psychological study and believed the aim of psychology should be to understand and control behaviour (ibid). He proposed that psychology should be seen as a science using controlled variables within experimentation (McLeod 2007a). This scientific approach made for a dependable method of assessing behaviour, however, critics of this approach argued that this method created artificial situations holding little ecological validity (ibid). Behaviourists also believe we are all born a blank slate and that all behaviour is determined from learning from a person s own environmental experiences either through classical conditioning, associating an external stimulus and a behavioural response, or through operant conditioning, association via consequences where behaviour is shaped through reward or punishment (Malim 1998). However this belief doesn t take into account a person s spontaneity, creativity or their ability to solve problems without the time consuming trial and error process that behaviourists believe is necessary (ibid). • 17. Democratic Views Of The Athenian And Spartan Governments The Athenian and Spartan governments had extremely different approaches to life. The democratic views of the Athenians were open minded and curious, focused on development. The oligarchic views of the spartans were more narrow minded and restricted, focused on constancy. The athenian democracy distributed power very well and gave everyone a fair share in the decision being made. Athenian life was comfortable and free, the polar opposite to the cruelty of Spartan life. The Athenian democracy also used their wealth very wisely inciting the development of their civilisation. Based on the information below, the Athenian population lived a happier life. The way the athenian government gave power was very effective and fair. Power is the hands not of a minority but of the whole people (From Alternative Two, from Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War) In the Athenian democracy decisions are made by a vote of the majority and then a decision is made by the outcome of the vote. Since all citizens could hold government positions (From powerpoint used in class, Athens and Sparta) The majority was making decisions based on what the people wanted modified or advanced, not a unwanted aristocratic tyrant like in the Spartan oligarchy. The citizens of sparta did not have this luxury. We give obedience to those whom we put in positions of authority (From Alternative Two, from Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War) This quote implies that in order for the Athenian ... • 18. Reconstruction On African American Freedom Freedom is not a term with a simple definition or interpretation. While the basic understanding of freedom is for one to have certain rights and liberties as a citizen, the American notion and application of freedom have certainly changed since its very beginning as a nation. A crucial part of America s history that challenged the idea of true American freedom for citizens was the Reconstruction Era. Although the Union troops were pulled out of the South and ended de jure segregation, the emergence of Jim Crow laws at the end of Reconstruction facilitated de facto segregation. Instead of completely achieving equal freedom, Reconstruction ultimately hindered African American s freedom with the emergence of the black codes that resurfaced again ... There are major historical narratives pertaining to Reconstruction that can offer insight on what is true American Freedom: The Dunning School view of the 1920s 1930s reflecting white southern elites, the Revisionist view from the 1960s, and the Post Revisionist view of the 1970s to present. The white elites who were upset by the loss of the confederacy and resented Radical Reconstruction felt betrayed by the of corruption presided over by unscrupulous carpetbaggers, traitorous scalawags, and ignorant freedmen (Lecture Recon.). The Dunning School view that emerged in the early twentieth century supported these white supremacists ideas and popularized that black suffrage had been a political blunder and that the Republican state governments in the South that rested upon black votes had been corrupt, extravagant, unrepresentative, and oppressive (Lecture Recon.). Foner argues that liberals started echoing white southerner s complaints that Reconstruction violated principles of good government by expelling me of property from power, and that gullible lower class voters throughout the country were being coerced (119). • 19. Critical Analysis Of Richard Georg Strauss s An Alpine... Richard Georg Strauss was born June 11th, 1864, he was one of the leading German composers of the late Romantic and early Modern eras. He is known for his operas such as Elektra, Die Frau one Schatten, and Salome. The composition I am going to analyze from Richard Strauss is his An Alpine Symphony. An Alpine Symphony begins in low volume, leaving me with a feeling of suspense. The instruments that commenced the piece was a fragment of the string section known as the second violins. The string section completely joined in but became over taken by a fragment of the brass section which was the trombones. The trombones played a long note, this theme reminds me of a funeral because of how silent the musicians are playing their instruments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New instruments were introduced in this section, the instruments introduced are the timpani and the crash cymbals. The timpani and crash cymbals are two members of the percussion section. The timpani and crash cymbals brought back a sentimental value to me, making me feel happiness because a few years ago, I learned how to play both instruments for the Knox Pride of Troy Band. The two instruments bring in excitement, the crashing of the cymbals and the rumble of the timpani are two loud figures, I believe this section represents the composers emotion when he was waking up from a long night of sleep. Strauss probably felt an attachment to the day time because it is possible that he did his best work during the day time. The xylophone was ultimately annexed during this section as the final member of the percussion section. Like the previous section Night , the light section began to annex in the french horns, trombones, and string section. The strings along with the timpani and trombone added a dramatic feeling making me feel warm inside because of how clear and filled with emotion they played. The light section ends with an allegro movement of the timpani, the woodwinds join in, and the trumpets are officially Partlow III introduced to end the section. The section kept a high volume, it would never drop, it would constantly rise piece by piece. • 23. 19 Minutes, By Jodi Picoult 19 minutes is a book written by Jodi Picoult that describes a school shooting. This book was written in a pretty unique way, because instead of having story told by sequential events from one perspective, it is told from many perspectives, from different times, and in different orders. For example, one moment you could be reading from the point of view of the shooter during the event, and the next you re reading from the point of view of a student 6 months after. The author uses different points of view and a non linear timeline to tell a unique story. Jodi Picoult uses different points in time for each chapter, but it isn t a random order. Whenever there is a change in time, it is because it logically follows what you just read. What ends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the book, you get to see through the eyes of the shooter, the judge, the judge s daughter, the shooter s parents, the shooter s lawyer, and the main detective on the case. I might even be missing a few, but these viewpoints were the most used. This ties in well with my previous point where I said the author used different points in time. Not only do you get to see different views, but also you get to see each viewpoint at many different times. One chapter you could be reading about what the judge was doing before her daughter was born, and the next chapter you could be reading about what the lawyer and his family is going through near the end of the case. There are a few characters and moments that I think showcase how well these viewpoints were done in this book. One of them is the different viewpoints during the shooting. While the first time the shooting is described we only see from the detective, later on we get to witness it again from other s eyes. This line is from Patrick s view, Turning a corner, Patrick slipped on blood and heard another gunshot, this one loud enough to ring her ears. (Picoult, 22) and this line is from Josie s view, As the gun fires, it ripper two stripes of her skin from the base of her thumb. Her hands jerked upwards. (Picoult, 440). These two lines are talking about the same gun shot, but Patrick s line is from the beginning of the book, and Josie s line is from the very end. Another part of the book that I think benefited well from different viewpoints is the relationship between Josie and her mother, Alex. The two don t have a very deep relationship in the beginning, which is shown by Josie many times, The last place Josie wanted to go was out to dinner with her mother. (Picoult, 150). I had spent about a year researching various places to move and I identified Gainesville as a great place, a conclusion also reached by Money Magazine in 1995. One of the reasons I thought Gainesville would be a good move was the low cost of housing. My first purchase was a mobile home, on a one acre lot, in a nearby city. That worked out very well. The seller s agent made a mistake at closing that saved me $2,500 on what was supposed to be a $28,000 transaction. The mortgage was five years and paid off on time. I still own the lot though the mobile home is no longer there. A couple of years later I bought my first house in Gainesville. I grew up in New York City. Half a million dollars would not buy the attached house with the postage stamp sized backyard I grew up in. Johnny Got His Gun Analysis Leaving the Harbor Every individual comes to a point in their life in which they begin to swim away from the harbor their parents raised them in, and begin navigating their own life. Dalton Trumbo uniquely portrays the familiar concept of coming of age, within a passage from his novel Johnny Got His Gun, in which he depicts a son wanting to take a friend fishing instead of his father who has taken him annually during their camping trip. Trumbo gives insight into the internal turmoil that strikes when confronting ones parents about wanting to drift away from the anchor they ve been for them. He clearly articulates his point, illustrating the flow in thought from tense to reflective using precise selection of detail, applying a shift in point of view, and naturalistic imagery. Trumbo shifts the tone from tense to reflective through effectively selecting details which portray the impact of the encounter between the father and son. In Apology, written by Plato, this ethical belief makes a bold appearance demonstrating that true ignorance only revolves around those who think that they know everything. In Apology, Socrates learns that the wisest men are those who do not think of themselves of wise, and rather make an approach of going beyond an authentic method of inquiry and helping others seek their personal philosophies which may result in conflict. In Plato s Apology, Socrates demonstrates that introspection is the key to living life with purpose. Socrates knowing himself, held in certain that he had no wisdom small or great (Plato, trans. 1871). Upon hearing the prophecy about him from the Oracle of Delphi asserting that there was no man wiser than him in all of Athens, he became puzzled (Plato, trans. 1871). • 35. Persuasive Essay On Water Conservation Before tackling the problem of water conservation, it is crucial to know the aspects of the issues. Water depletion results from lack of precipitation and dwindling amounts of snow pack that allow the use of run off. Due to the gradual increase of climate, both of these water supplies have decreased and research has shown the continued drop in water reserves. At this rate, the demand for water will outweigh its supply, leading to massive drought. California especially faces this problem since it uses the most water out of all fifty states in America. The California Water Science Center states that on average, each Californian uses 181 gallons of water every day, which amounts to about 355,000 million gallons a year. They also state that in a typical Southern California city, the most annual rainfall gained is 19.5 inches, which is not enough to sustain large communities. This data shows why it is critical to conserve current stored water and reduce the use of future water obtained. A common action that members of communities plagued with drought often participate in is wasting water while waiting for their sink to get hot. This small daily task can waste gallons of usable water and adds to the problem of a drought. To solve this issue, one does not need a high IQ or large amounts of money, simply a large pitcher or container of some kind. While waiting for sink water to get hot, once can simply fill up a container with the water that is running. Once the water is at its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Narrative Essay About Going To The Beach It was finally summer vacation and my family and I decided to go to the beach as soon as the last day of school ended. While I sat in my seat in class, the anticipation of going to the beach kept me from concentrating, all I saw was the teacher s familiar mouth formations, speaking to the class about some Post World War Two battle involving a conspiracy about Hitler and the Nazi regime in the classroom. I sat there, in the tan metal chair attached to the wooden desk next to the wall, waiting. Time passed by and my excitement increased as I rushed out of the room, down the dim hallway, past the office out the glass, front doors to see my family parked in the teeming parking lot. As soon as I got into the car, my dad hit the gas pedal and we were off to our beloved destination. Hours passed and we neared the beach, and I could see the ocean and the grainy sand. We were almost there and I could not contain my enthusiasm. I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning! We got to the parking lot and I could see the towering building above me awaiting my presence. I leaped out of the car with my items and headed straight to the glass doors. I sped up the stairs, to the third floor, down the hallway, to the sixth door on the right. I dropped my stuff off into the room and went straight outside and out to the beach because I could not wait any longer. Wow. I said as I stuck my feet in the scorching sand and felt the heat pass in between my toes as I walked across the beach. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Founded by Joseph Smith while living in New York State Mormonism has had many struggles due to its radical beliefs that went against orthodox Christianity which at that time was invigorated with righteous passion. Mormonism was founded while Joseph Smith lived in Palmyra, NY. Before he lived in Palmyra, he lived in Sharon, Vermont, the place of his birth. The Smith family moved to Palmyra New York and set themselves up in the only profession they knew, farming. While in New York, his mother attended a Presbyterian church but the rest of the family went into magic and pursued seekerism and seer stones. The Smiths went on several treasure hunting expeditions. While on these expeditions, the family would put seeing stones into their hats believing that they would see a revelation of where treasure was located. When Joseph was 14, he walked into the woods and prayed to God for guidance on which church to attend. He received a vision of God and Christ, saying to join none of them as they were all corrupt. Years later, Smith claims to have been visited by the angel Moroni. He tells Smith about a set of golden plates containing the history of a ancient South American civilization. He told Smith where to find a sealed stone box containing these plates. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Daphne, A Naiad-Nymph Of The River Peneus Daphne was a Naiad Nymph of the river Peneus in Thessalia and the daughter of the river god Peneus. Nymphs were female spirits of the natural world and crafters of nature s beauty, from the growing of the trees and flowers to the formation of wetlands, brooks, grottos, and springs. (Atsma) Her father, the river god Peneus, was tried several times because Daphne would not accept any of the handsome, eligible young men who wanted her. Her father would scold her by saying, Am I never going to have a grandson? which Daphne would answer with Father, dearest, let me be like Diana. . (Hamilton 119) Her father would surrender from these conversations and let her off into the woods, which she had the freedom to do what she desired. Daphne became like Diana, also known as Artemis, by living as a perpetual virgin and a wild huntress. Daphne is said to have been Apollo s first love, but it turned out to be a one sided love. One day, Eros, the god of love, was taunted by Apollo, the god of prophecy, when he told Eros to leave bows and arrows to those who were more capable of using them after he defeated Python. (L.Roman and M.Roman 130) Eros wanted revenge and decided to shoot Apollo and Daphne with arrows that had opposite reactions. The two lead male actors were Tyrone Power as Leonard Vole and Charles Laughton as Sir Wilfrid Robarts. The lead female actor was Marlene Dietrich as Christine Helm. Witness for the Prosecution superbly demonstrated a realist view of the operating procedures in a courtroom. The actors within the courtroom were easy to identify, and the steps transitioned smoothly from the arrest to the reading of the verdict. The murder trial of Leonard Vole provided realistic insight into how laws on the books are used in courtroom proceedings. The defense for Vole was nonexistent until a stranger provided damaging evidence against the prosecution s most damaging witness. For the defendant to be found guilty of murder, the burden is placed on the prosecutor to prove the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 33). In other words, the prosecutor, Mr. Myer must present a strong case to satisfy the jury that charges against the defendant are almost certainly true (Neubauer Fradella, 2014, p. 35). When the trial started, the evidence was strong enough for a guilty verdict. The prosecution had three witnesses to support the claim that Vole killed Emily French. The first witness, Inspector Hearne, provided the court with blood evidence on the sleeve of Vole s jacket; however, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid disputed the evidence because Vole s blood type was not excluded as the donor. The second witness was Janet McKenize, Mrs. French s hard of hearing housekeeper, who stated she heard Vole and Mrs. French talking on the night of the murder; nevertheless, during cross examination, Sir Wilfrid discredited her testimony when he proved to the jury that she was hard of hearing. The climax of the prosecution came when Mr. Myers, after objections by Sir Wilfrid, called Christine Helm, Vole s wife, to the stand. Christine was thought to be the wife of Vole but provided ...
