industrialization dbq
Industrialization DBQ Q: Identify the issues raised by the growth of Manchester and analyze the
various reactions to those issues over the course of the nineteenth century.
__________________________________________________ The spread of industrialization
rapidly altered and changed the city of Manchester during the nineteenth century. Of course there
were positive effects that stemmed from this, but negative effects due to the growth of
industrialization outnumbered the positive outcomes and are often overshadowed. The
environmental hazards and the working conditions of the factory were enough to harm laborers and
the gentry (documents 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 11), dulling the positive... Show more content on

Wages thanks mainly to accelerated machinery and improved working conditions have largely
increased. The lavish provision of public parks, baths, and free libraries promotes the health,
happiness and culture of the industrial orders. Far seldomer than before do we hear the murmur
of popular discontent. Sickness and mortality have been reduced to an extent that is almost
incredible (doc 10 Abram s, a journalist and historian, published journal account of the
improvements to industrial Manchester.) Public health was an extremely important issue that
sparked reactions to the polluted water and air, the Corn Laws and the well being of laborers in
filthy conditions. Diseases caused or aggravated by atmospheric impurities produced by
decomposing animal and vegetable substances, by damp and filth, and close and overcrowded
dwellings, prevail among the laboring classes. The annual loss of life from filth and bad
ventilation is greater than the loss from death or wounds in modern wars (doc 6), Most workers
lack clothing, bed, furniture, fuel wholesome food, even potatoes! They spend from twelve to
fourteen hours each day shut up in low ceilinged rooms where with every breath of foul air they
absorb fibers of cotton, wool, or particles of copper, lead or iron. They live suspended between an
insufficiency of food and an excess of strong drink; they are all wizened, sickly and emaciated,
their bodies thin and frail, their limbs

High Stakes Projects Need All Start Teams
Virtuoso Teams High stakes projects need all start teams. But all starts often play by their own
rules and fight like cats and dogs. Fisher and Boynton. In all the humans goal, you can find those
group with admirable outstanding. These groups are called virtuoso teams in view of that they
are different from the other teams. They have characteristics that pursue the admiration from the
companies. Virtuoso teams aren t similar because they play by a set of rules completely
different like the regular groups. They use a criteria according each member skills. Well as the
rest of the teams would you think, and that is not the same way that they look. For example,
traditional team s members are typically selected randomly. In Virtuoso teams members are
handpicked selected those who play a specific role with high quality performance. Even though
their potential, companies avoid these teams. Due to the fact that their risks are high. It is
complicate to keep a virtuoso team work together for they are looking for new challenges, so if
they achieve one, they start to look for another one. Also, leader of virtuoso teams are more than
compromise with their teams. They spent a ton of time and abilities in their time as leaders. When
earning start comes, virtuoso teams are the principal to get those starts. The reason of this is the
ability to find the goal, analyze their plan and built strategies. Some of their members characteristic

Communism And Communism Around The World
Communism
Throughout the years, humans have come up with many, many ideas. Some ideas, like expressing
language using symbols (writing) or a machine that could transmit sound energy using electricity
(telephone) are fundamental to our everyday lives. Other ideas, such as a USB pet rock (http:/
/www.thinkgeek.com/product/c208/), are just plain head scratching. But in 1848, Karl Marx and
Friedrich Engels wrote a book about an idea that would change the world. That idea is still around
the world today. The name of their book? The Communist Manifesto . Communismis a society
where private property and social classes are non existent, the government owns any and all
materials required to make products, and gives everyone what they need to get by. In
Communism, there are no social classes. Everyone is equal to their fellow citizens. The idea of
Communism became very influential in the 20th century, as it helped inspire communist
revolutions in many different countries around the world. Marx believed that mankind s one issue
throughout the years was a clash between different social classes. Marx isn t completely wrong
when he says that. No one likes being told what to do by a group of people from the dominant
social class , but Marx s idea was a bit extreme. He came to the conclusion that, Hey, if social
classes are the real problem here, why don t we have a class less society? . In theory, everyone
would get along and be equal. We would work to our ability and receive

Corporate Culture Of Enron And Bankruptcy
Introduction The case study is about Enron and about their biggest failure that lead the company
towards bankruptcy. Enron got bankrupt to the extent that was no point of returning back and
reversing its wrong doings. The only thing that the company had to think about was how to return
the losses of its creditors. EnronCorp. was left with $12 billion in assets which was to be
distributed among more than 20,000 creditors. Around 80% of creditors of Enron backed the long
awaited reorganization plan of the company. Creditors were seeking to recover more than $1200
billion. According to Stephen F. Cooper, who was the interim chief executive officer of the
company said that only $67 billion was the justified amount. The amount of assets that was
available to creditors could grow if the management of Enron succeeded with the mega claim
against financial institutions and leading banks that helped the organization in creating complex
deals which helped it inflate cash flow and hide debt (Niskanen, 2005).
Corporate Culture of Enron and Bankruptcy Heavily influenced by the culture to compete rather
co operate, employees at Enron were motivated and driven by huge bonuses and they became
scared of the ranking criteria. They were also scared by being asked to leave the company of they
did not perform well. All this resulted in unhealthy business activities, which drove colleagues to
push each other backwards rather than to help each other to finalize the deal or execute the sale

Cellulite
Cellulite is a condition of adipose origin in which adipose tissue protrudes through the dermis
causing an orange peel or cottage cheese type dimpling of skin seen most commonly on the thighs
and buttocks of many post pubertal women. The initial changes leading to cellulite formation
appear to be deterioration of the capillary network, vascular changes and abnormal deposits of
glycosaminoglycans, leading to excess fluid retention within subcutaneous tissues. A variety of
treatments ranging from topical creams to laser therapies are currently available, claiming to reduce
the dimpled skinappearance however successful results are often anecdotal, subjective or not
present at all.
Cellulite can be primarily found in any area of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inability to repair tissue damage due to continued oedema and vascular congestion can lead to
thickening and sclerosis of the fibrous septae in the superficial adipose tissue and deep dermis,
creating the clinical appearance of cellulite.
Cellulite is an unwanted condition and a rising demand for cellulite reduction has new non invasive
treatment modalities becoming popular. Currently there are numerous medications, devices and
diverse therapies that allegedly treat cellulite however there is little evidence to support long term
effectiveness. Due to the nature of cellulite, effective treatment would need to repair and strengthen
the dermis as well as expel the fat protrusion back underneath the dermis. Retinoids are thought to
increase dermal collagen fibres, allowing the dermis to prevent further herniation of fat as the
collagen deposition makes the dermis much stronger, therefore reducing the appearance of cellulite.
Endermologie is a hand held mechanical system used to simulate manual massages of the skin. It is
hypothesized that it is able to reduce the appearance of cellulite by causing damages to the
subcutaneous fat cells by positive (rolling) and negative (suction) pressures, disrupting fat cells and
allowing for better distribution of subcutaneous fat.

A. Colonialism in North America
England s desire for economic gain and religious freedom sparked the beginning of their interest in
colonialism in America (Gouch, LeGuin, Walton, 1998). While some settlers came to America in
search of gold or other riches, the Puritans that settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to
escape religious persecution and have freedom to worship as they desired. In 1630, over a
thousand Puritans arrived, being led by a lawyer named John Winthrop. All English settlers were
required to set up charter system governments. This system allowed the settlers to organize ... Show

The British, unwilling to give up their rule, even went as far as to demand that Colonist pay for the
protection of the British Army and Navy. The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the
British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was
inevitable (Joes, 1996).
Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of
religion and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of
England. Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted
to remain a part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more
radical religious group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal
of both of both the Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs
without fear of persecution by the church or government. England remained firm that the colonist
must follow the practice of the Church of England with no variation ( Annenberg Learner, 2013).
B2. Indian Independence Movement
The general cause of the Indian Independence Movement was India s desire for independence from
British, French and Portuguese Rule. The aim of the movement was Swaraj, a self governing India
(Sharma, 2005, p. 22). One, more specific, cause of the Indian Independence Movement took place

Rabbit Proof Fence is the name of the film directed by Philip Noyce. This movie is about three
girls, Molly, Daisy and Gracie, who are taken away from their families to a camp in Moore River
where they bring up the Aboriginal kids as white kids. The girls then go on a nine week journey
back home and this movie showcases the journey and the obstacles the girls had to face before
coming back home. A particular scene from this movie, Stolen , is about the three girls enjoying
their day when a white man comes and takes them away to the campgrounds away from their
families. There are many techniques used in the scene Stolen . One being close up. In this scene a

This technique helps us understand the emotions Constable Riggs is feeling. With this
technique, we can see that he is waiting for the right time to make his move. This shows us that
he is determined about what he is going to do and is feeling confident about his plan as we can
see his eyes fixed on the girls. The director wanted to show us that Constable Riggs is a cunning
person since before he made his move he was quite close with the Aboriginal people and they
trusted him and respected him. However, with this technique, the director wanted the viewers to
see the other side of Constable Riggs with the confidence and determined shown from his facial
expressions. The director also wanted to show us that nothing will be able to stop him from
capturing the girls. He also wanted to show us that Aboriginals respect the white and white people

of the girls have no say on the situation. This is relevant to anyone as from this scene it is shown
not to trust others easily. This is relevant because like Constable Riggs we can

Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief
Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This
is not limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny
the existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe,
and we are to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument
of faithand reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a
Logical Bet or W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. In both we find strengths and weaknesses which
defend their individual beliefs based on reasoning and logical thinking.
Before we consider what Blaise Pascal s argument is between faith and reason, we must ... Show

Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument.
In The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical
without having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely
on faith but it demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in
deciding whether a Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a
story about a ship owner who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was
old and not in the best shape as it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner
that the ship was not seaworthy, the doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship
inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the ship owner make the decision to set aside all
doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the
ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed, and the ship owner collected the
insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking in, the ship owners decision
to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical. As the owner it was his
responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected situations, issues, and
events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their lives, however, this
was not the case. From the

A child does not purposefully engage in play in order to learn about the World they live in, but
because it is something that they enjoy. Anything they learn from play is accidental (Fontana, 1995).
There are four main categories of play; functional, fictional, receptive and constructive.
Functional is sensory motor play which appears during the first 12 months of a child s life. This
involves any elusive movements of the hands and feet such as clapping and kicking. Fictional
play begins when the child reaches the age of two and is the first stage of pretend and socio
dramatic play. It has a symbolic nature where the child uses their imagination to create fantasies
and characters. They engage in role play involving themselves and objects which encourages
language to develop. Receptive play is when the child will show interest and enjoy listening to
stories and looking at pictures. Constructive play involves playing with bricks, sand and blocks, as
well as any other natural materials and drawing (Fontana, 1995). Some say that play s place in the
curriculum is problematic (Bennett et al. 1998). Many parents, school administrators and
politicians believe that play is an unaffordable luxury in an ever more competitive world
(www.earlychildhoodnews.com). Also Dewey believed that enjoyment on its own is not enough to

The Need To Safeguard The Practice Of Research Ethics
Research Ethics
This essay is aimed at my fellow students and tries to explain using some different case studies
firstly what research ethics are and what happens when you don t stick to these same ethics.
Research ethics involves concepts and principles of right conduct within the research being carried
out. Oxford dictionary defined ethics as Moral principles that govern a person s behaviour or the
conducting of an activity (Oxford). This is especially true within research ethics as this research is
a public trust that must be ethically conducted, trustworthy, and socially responsible if the results
are to be valuable and be believed.

(Research Economic Development)
During the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in 2002, held on
the, the then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (2002) stated that And more and more we are
realizing that it is only by mobilizing the corporate sector that we can make significant progress.
The corporate sector has the finances, the technology and the management to make this happen
(Annan, 2002, para. 5 6).
This shows that assessing the compatibility of business ethics and sustainable development is
important and is encouraged at the highest level.
A basic ethical dilemma that commonly takes place with many engineers has to be the duty to
report a to the proper responsible authorities if a client or employer is failing to follow the
engineer s directions and/or designs causing possible harm. This duty should annul all or any duty
to a client or the employer as it may put people in harms way. As an engineer they may face some

A Critical Concerns Surrounding The Tallit s Male...
When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron
hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer
shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women
wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a
movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a
personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s
male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels,
and the tallit as a method of personal expression.
The Origins of the Tallit
Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think
that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it,
come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual
commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments:
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations
fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of
blue. (Numbers 15:38)

a reminder to fulfill the mitzvoth and commandments in

Dell Supply Chain Strategy Essay
An overview of Dell Inc s Supply chain

Introduction
The Personal Computer industry has revolutionized the way of life. Technological forces have the
most significant influence on the computer hardware industry. The extremely short product life
cycle for computers, influenced by the upgrade cycle, has both positive and negative effects on
companies within the industry. It challenges companies to maintain superior inventory management
and supplier relationships: areas where Dell excels. Technological change also drives waves of
additional computer purchases within a mature market.
Dell, Inc was the first major company to really seize the opportunity of selling via internet. It was
founded in 1984 by Michael Dell. Traditionally,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By being in direct contact with the changing market, Dell is able to sense the altering customer
demands and synchronize its operations through internal collaboration to meet these demands
before its competitors. The market demands keep changing quickly which makes it difficult to
foresee them. It is a challenge to meet these demands and hence Dell focuses on managing them by
continuously rebalancing the demand and supply. If the demand exceeds supply, the company
works with its suppliers and looks out for external options to meet the exceeding demands. It also
focuses on demand shift through product promotion on its web portal in no time (Brian, 2004)
Internal collaboration: One of the key aspects in the success of Dell supply chain is ‗internal

its web portal. The company s direct communication system helps its ‗people to communicate

Leveraging partners: Dell signals its suppliers about the customer demand, the projected market
shifts and sourcing strategies and in return expects the suppliers to share information regarding new
technology drivers and capacity outlooks. With the help of information systems, it pools data on

The Essentials of Holistic Health Life force energy:
The source of human life comes from an integrated and intelligent energy known as life force
energy, which sustains the life of body organs, cells, and tissues, as well as supports the spiritual
entity of the soul. This invisible life force energy flows freely throughout the body to give an
individual not only health and vitality by efficiently transporting oxygen and nutrients to different
parts of the body, but also an expression of the inner self. The flow of this life giving energy
follows an organized pattern by way of meridians connecting different parts of the human body.
This life force energy has different names for different cultures: the Chinese call it qi; the Japanese,
lei; the Hindus, prana; and the Greeks, pneuma. But they all mean the same thing: the essence of
life.
Any blockage or diminution of life force energy may result in reduction in oxygen supply,
deficiency in nutrients intake, and accumulation of waste products produced, and hence the
beginning of degeneration and disease. Disease symptoms are only signs of diminution of life force

Love In Hamlet And Ophelia
Love is different for each and every individual. It is so powerful that people cry, suffer pain, or
even risk their lives to save it. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or
even the love that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It
is that kind of love that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet,
especially when it comes to Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s
advisor, the ever forgetful and meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for
Ophelia was not only fabricated, but unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long
meditation on the nature of being and death, Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to
return some of the remembrances that Hamlet gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically
questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given Ophelia anything and continues to
erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he never loved her at all. The
problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims to love Ophelia amidst
a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia. Not only does he
doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to eavesdrop on
him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a nunnery rather
than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself, saying that
no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in shambles.
Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is completely no

The Social Marketing Aspects Of Twitter
Research Project 1: Comparing Brand Project This literature review will mainly discuss some
literatures that address on the social marketing aspects of Twitter. With the growing accessibility of
the internet, social media does not only change the dynamics of sustaining human relationships (O
Brien, 2011), but enables consumers to establish a social community within a brand. Businesses
center their marketing strategy on social media branding because active engagement implies the
domino effects following the robust electronic word of mouth (eWOM). Barton (2006) defines
eWOM as a statement made by potential customers about a brand or a product, which potentially
generates interest in the category of products and influences purchasing... Show more content on

Expanding beyond microblogs, the ease and openness of messages have made Twitter the best
alternative to reporting and accessing emergencies news such as earthquakes and political
movements (Muralidharan et al., 2011). More importantly, Jansen, Zhang, Sobel and Chowdhury
(2009) reported that approximately one quarter of the tweets touches on brands, among which users
seek to provide information or express opinions about the brand. Consistently, Zhang, Jansen
Chowdhury (2011) indicated that Twitter provides a rich plethora of resources for companies to
grasps consumers taste, trends and promote campaigns through engaging in the eWOM
communication process. As shown, social media platforms become an essential channel for brands
to gather audiences and heighten brand awareness, but no studies have analysed the well
established Twitter community of big brands as a good reference. It is worthy examining how the
biggest brands such as McDonalds and KFC manipulate their tweets on Twitter and uncover the
type of messages that both food giants deliver. There has been a mixture of views among
researchers regarding the success measurements of social marketing (Baumgartner, 2014). The
importance of maximising tweets in social branding is emphasized in Keller (2007) s study.
Regardless of the nature of the tweet material, Keller argues that the more frequent a brand tweets,
the more probably it will attend to specific customers. While

Our Time Wideman Summary
Do you have any idea how draining it is to be black in America? Rich or poor, educated or
uneducated, famous or anonymous? Do you know what it feels like to be classified as ghetto
and lazy because you come from or live in the hood? Better yet have you ever been called white
washed because you seek a higher education, and are able to actually hold a conversation without
saying the word umm in every other sentence? Do you have any idea? I do. Not everyone is a
direct result of their environment and bad choices. In the essay Our Time Wideman questions the
idea of black life in America and uses both he and his brother s story to explain how the choices
we make in life are not always easy, and how sometimes others may not always understand the
reasons behind them. Throughout the essay he uses the voices of his brother Robby, His mother,
and Himself to express and convey the different perspectives through Robby s eyes. Widemen has

and seeing him in his terms, learning his terms, seemed the whole point of learning his story. (p.

The Expectations With The Forecast Budget For Year 9
A1. Concerns There are several concerns with the forecast budget for year 9. This first concern is in
Advertising. Competition Bikes has annually budgeted 2% of gross profit. Due to the weakening
economy and 15% reductions in year 8, the concern is not making the forecasted amount of units
without increased advertising. Competition Bikes should consider increasing its costof advertising
to help with communication about the company and its product lines to drive higher sales to
meet the 3510 units. The second concern is Utilities. In year 7, utilities were running $130,000
or 8.24% of gross profit. During year 7, Competition Bikes sold 4000 units. The concern with
Utilities is that it isn t decreasing to a level comparable to when Competition Bikes had its
highest year of production. The third concern is with Research and Development (R D. Research
and Development is designed to allocate funds toward research for the purpose of discovering or
creating new products. Year over year, Competition Bikes has only allocated 6% of gross profit
toward the research and development of new product lines. To help with the previous years 15% in
net sales, Competition Bikes should begin more R D activities to help boost sales to meet the
projected number. Another concern is the costsassociated with Other General and Admin Expenses.

Salmonella Outbreak Essay
For the module 1 SLP, we re going to take a brief look at Salmonella and some of the factors that
play a role in a foodborne outbreak. We ll look at etiologic agent, host factors, and environmental
factors as well as host factors and how they can play a role in the occurrence. First and foremost,
we need to see what salmonellais and then we can break it down when we look at the other factors.
Salmonella is a bacterial disease that occurs in the intestines, the signs and symptoms can be;
fever, or other illnesses such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps. People typically get salmonella
from contaminated foods, which seems to occur frequently from poultry and eggs (Nordqvist,
2016). This is just a basic look at salmonella though, next we need to look at the epidemiologic
triad (host, agent, and environment) and see how each plays a role in a salmonella outbreak.
First the etiologic agent of salmonella; Salmonella gastroenteritis is the infectious agent that causes
salmonella. It is transmitted through vehicle transmission, meaning it travels from place to place
on something (contaminated meat for example). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What if it were a host that had salmonella from the beginning? If a patient presents with all the
signs and symptoms, but it isn t due to food handling then you d have to assume that there is an
outside factor. According to the Mayo Clinic article on salmonella there are a few factors where a
host can increase their chance of getting salmonella. These factors include; international travel,
specifically to countries with poor sanitation, owning a bird or reptile that is infected with the
bacteria and handling that animal routinely increases your change for exposure. Additionally use of
antacids and antibiotics can create a perfect environment for the bacteria to grow in your intestines

Willy Loman Critical Analysis
An individual s ability to foresee into the future can often be regarded as a gift, but this ability
can also be a curse. One can either anticipate or fear for the future. Oftentimes, fear motivates
individuals to create and achieve a vision of what they desire for the future. In the play, Death of a
Salesman by Arthur Miller, an aging salesman, Willy Loman, struggles to earn a living as well as
struggle to maintain his relationship with his family. When an individuals feardictate how they
should think and act, this can lead to the inability of the individual to make appropriate life altering
decisions. If an individual clings on to their fears they maintain their foresight, however, when one
gambles with their fears they may lose their vision for their future and may lead to a desirable
outcome.
Initially, Willy Loman is revealed to have been abandoned by his father and later on his brother
when he first revisits the past, establishing the root of his fears. Willy s abandonment raised multiple
questions and issues that he was unable to find the answers to. This event developed his deep
insecurity about being well liked and ironically prompted him to abandon his family. Willy s
perception towards appearances led him to be unsuccessful in business as well as having
disconnected relationships with those around him. Willy has built an unattainable expectation that
is contradictory to his nature and it began with him clinging on to being a salesman knowing that

Done in a Baroque style the bust gives the immediate impression of beauty, youth, and strength.
Moreau looks to his left, his gaze focused in the distance as if watching some event or an

shoulders. The curls are styled in artful ringlets and swirls, at the crown of his head the wig
permed to either side of the central part. The longer lengths of hair spiral down past his
shoulders. The bust can be viewed from all angles however, even though the wig curls down part of

The Fate Of America Essay
The Fate of America
According to the text, The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a
democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don t have to waste your
time voting , (Bukowski 1). The decisions made in this election will affect the future of America.
According to Oxford Dictionaries the president is an elected head of state in a democratic
setting , (Oxford dictionaries 2). A good president is someone who is: experienced in political
matters, intelligent, a good leader, has quality communication skills, a good decision maker, and
confident in their ideals. This election will go down in the history books no matter what the result
is and will be looked back on and analyzed by future generations. The opportunity is there to elect
the first female president of the Unites States, Hilary Clinton. Women have gone from fighting for
the right to vote, now one is on the ballot with the opportunity to be the commander and chief. We
are on the brink of the third election where a Caucasian male will not be the president. Or, the
other side of this coin is the Republican Nominee Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a businessman,
television producer, and politician. He was born in New York City on June 14th, 1946. He

Quilting has different meanings for different people, but all quilts have a unique appearance and
tradition. What makes art is its life pulsing and shining with the energy and intentions of its
creator. The art of quilting glows with a respect for all generations that have come before putting
thread, needle, and cloth together with vision and love (Wilson 7). Starting out in antiquity as a
necessity and a work of art, quilting has changed over time, but it is still practiced in a myriad of
cultures around the world. Although there are many types of quilting, there are three common
types identified as whole cloth, piecing, and appliquГ©. The whole cloth technique uses only one

Since the modern word quilt is derived from the Latin word culcitra, it is reasonable to assume that
Romans who spoke Latin used quilted blankets. However, it was not until A.D. 1095 that
Europeans gained undeviating access to the technologies of Asia and Africa, and the process of
quilting became standard in Western Europe. Through their attack on Palestine, knights from
England, France, and Italy were introduced to the Palestinians light armor made of tough quilted
jackets covered with chain mail, flexible armor made of metal links (Wilson 16 17). Quilting was
introduced to America when the first settlers came in the Fifteenth Century. The first records of
quilts in what would become the United States come from wills and estate papers of the 1600 s.
The oldest surviving American quilt is probably the Saltonstall quilt, made around 1704 (Breneman
and Laurette). Many cultures have come together in the United States to include, for example, such
world noted quilt styles as Mexican American, African American, and Amish. It is not known
exactly when the first pioneer woman introduced her quilting to the Spanish American settlers, but
star quilt patterns became an element of Spanish American women s weaving quite early. Fabric
became more available in the 1800 s when the railroad arrived. Women found that they could make
warm bed coverings much faster than weaving by sewing together scraps of fabric with an old
blanket, with wool or cotton as filling.

The Shinto Religion Essay
ORIGINS The religion we know as Shinto is native to Japan and was first practiced sometime
before the year 500 B.C.E. The name Shinto comes from a Chinese phrase meaning Way of the
Gods . It was first used to describe the native Japanese religion in the 8th Century C.E. It is
currently the official religion of Japan along with Buddhism (Ono 1 3). There is a less common
name for Shintothat comes directly from the Japanese language, which is Kami no michi which
also means Way of the Gods (Renard 18). While Shinto has existed for more than 2500 years,
there is no distinct founder, there is no body of religious law and there is no specific scripture as

The most prominent of these was Amaterasu, the sun goddess. Amaterasu is the most important
and most revered Kami in Shinto, we can see an example of this when looking at the current
Japanese flag which shows a red circle representing the rising sun of Japan, also the symbol of
Amaterasu (DesRivieres 100 101). In Shinto there are four Affirmations ; things that are
important in life, things that should be honoured. The first is tradition and family, the second is
nature, the third is physical cleanliness and the last is the Kami. All of these things should be
accorded the highest honour (Robinson). For a religion with such a rich history, Shinto has a
surprisingly underdeveloped theology (Ono 2). There is no specific system of laws or beliefs;
it usually borrows the moral code of Confucianism. One of Shinto s few concrete beliefs is that
while all animals are special, humans in particular are sacred because humanity is the child of
the Kami. One place where Shinto is especially vague is in its depiction of the afterlife. We do
know that there is a land of the dead thanks to the story of Izanami and Izanagi, and we know that
it is unclean , but that is the only description of this land that we have. We don t know if there are

Although the concentrations of environmental contaminants in the prey of the nesting eagles were
one of the factors influencing bald eagle reproductive success, there was also habitat availability
and human disturbances. Territories unoccupied by another breeding pair must include sufficient

contaminants have had many negative impacts on non target species. One major insect that
insecticides are used for today is a mosquito. An ecotoxicology study was conduced where they
examined the effects of commercial mosquito insecticide formulations and predation on the
survival, growth, and development of a species of tadpoles (Pauley et. al 2015). They had to take
into consideration environmental stressors like predation and temperature because that can change
the lethality of the insecticide. They used three insecticide formulations: mosquito bits, mosquito
dunks, and mosquito torpedoes. Mosquito dunks showed the biggest significance because they
caused a decrease in tadpole survival when used with a predator. The predator was used as an
environmental stressor that affected the lethality of the formulation. This caused the decrease in
that tad pole species. Similar predator insecticide interactions have been found using a variety of
insecticides and herbicides, incorporating multiple environmental sources of amphibian stress

Recapitulation
In the Exhibition, the main theme (A) does not have a special melodic personality. Theme A is
formed by a simple triadic figure that undergoes variations throughout the movement. Until the final
coda does not return to the regular form of the beginning.
In the development we hear a new topic, which is very significant in that this section does not
usually show new thematic material. The theme is solved in the final coda and is presented in the
minor variant of the main key, in E flat minor. In this central section of the symphony, we
appreciate a complex tonal process that gives us a dramatic dimension of movement. The use of the

Western Diet Vs Vegan Diet Analysis
With a toppling number in the hundreds; in today s society this is the exceeding amount of diets
in existence. As humans we crave an image of perfection in one s self; and a diet is just a route
we take in order achieve this goal. The question that comes to mind of many is: Which diet
actually works? The family oriented traditional western diet or a vegan diet? Firstly, the western
diet is characterized by high intakes of red meat, sugary desserts, high fat foods, and refined grains
( Nazni 78). This diet primarily consists of foods that are virtually available to the average
American. In addition, this diet is adequate in taste, is stated as being historically healthy and vital

Only animal based foods can provide nutrients such as protein for an increase in muscle mass
and bone health. Without and or lack of this nutrient our immune system would collapse and we
would be deficient in vitamins. Second, humans are intended to consume meat for survival.
Since, the dawn of time our ancestors were hunters and gathers. As a result, this instinct to
consume meat for survival has been pass down in our genetics . On another hand, Bacon,
sausages, hot dogs, cold cuts, and other types of processed meat causes cancer similar rate of
asbestos and tobacco. As little as fifty grams a day; just two slices of bacon, can increase your
cancer risk by eighteen percent (Wendt 1). Those who intake meat, and those who smoke have one
common tie: both cause cancer. As a result, consumption of meat leads to an increase of cancer;
hence cancer is preventable if intake is nonexistence. In association, those who consume meat
products are more likely to increase their rate of mortality, than non carnivores. Due to intake of
meat, diseases and illness prevails and remorsefully death comes more abrupt in comparison to a

tension between the two. Earlier in the book, The Joy Luck Club, we learned that June is born in

barrier between the three of them. June s mother cherishes the traditions and culture of China but
June wants to live and independent American life style (Wood). June s mother grew up in China
and lived through the Japanese invasion and wanted to hold onto whatever traditions and ideals she

The Jungle Reforms
What societal and government reforms did The Jungle call for. Do you feel this novel was effective
in bringing about any of these reforms. The Jungle , written by Upton Sinclair, is an astonishing
novel informing readers about the devastating truths involving impoverished life in America,
particularly Chicago. This novel gives the reader an inside look into to the struggles of numerous
European immigrants as they ventured to America during the early 1900 s. Sinclair depicts the
disturbing and emotional realities average people in America faced daily and successfully
demonstrates the correct societal and governmental reforms such as the meat packing industry
would have allowed these issues to be avoided. The main societal and... Show more content on

They were forced to work longer without pay, work in unsanitary conditions, and more. Much later
in the novel, after Jurgis has run away fromm his family, become an alcoholic, and homeless, he
accidently stumbles upon a political meeting where he is first introduced to socialism. When he first
gets to the meeting, he enters just to sit and rest until someone encourages him to listen to the
speech. To his surprise, the speaker is pointing out the terrible conditions that workers face each
day. Additionally, he talks about how capitalists grind most workers into capitulation. Jurgis has
never heard anyone speak so vividly of the realities he was facing each day, causing him much
joy. This was the first time a political party was in favor of the working class rather than the
privileged and wealthy. Sinclair does an excellent job of developing the theme of reform from
capitalism to socialism. As he speaks to Ostrinski, a Lithuanian speaking socialist, he is informed
that just because America is politically free doesn t mean there is no wage slavery . When Jurgis
finds a new job, under a socialist boss, Sinclair makes it obvious that this is a much better political
party than capitalism since Jurgis is making thirty plus dollars each month. This new wage is
nothing compared to the amount he was making before. Throughout the novel capitalism is
portrayed as a destructive form of government while Sinclair promotes socialism. Another major

Different Types Of Protection Systems
These protection systems either helps in capturing the rocks or to control their trajectory once it
has fallen down, they are of following types : Rigid barriers Flexible barriers Attenuator system
Catch areas Rock sheds Rigid barriers: These barriers are constructed to either contain or deflect
the rockfall as these structures are so stiff that they can easily withstand the kinetic energy
impacted by the falling boulder with very less or no deformation. So they are mainly constructed
near the disaster place. Catch areas: These are used to stop the capture falling rocks before they
cause risk to the structure. They are usually constructed along the transportation routes. Flexible

Design ( flexible barrier) : The design approach for the flexible barrier is the most developed part
of all the rock fall protection system as it involves the design approach ( MEL SEL), corrosion
protection of the fence, downward deflection of the fence, sizing of the fence. These all aspects
helps to get a better design of the fences which can withstand very harsh and aggressive
environment. MEL (Maximum energy level): This energy level fence is used at the site where
the occurrence of the rockfall is very low so after the impact with the fence ie. when a boulder
hits the fences there is a need for the repair or the replacement of the fence as the barrier have to
catch a boulder with a maximum energy level of 100% and the residual height after the impacts
shows the quality of the barrier. SEL (Service energy level): This is the type of the fences in
which the barrier has to catch the two impacts of the boulder with в…“ of the MEL energy being
damaged. These type of fences are used where the occurrence of the rockfall is more. After the
first impact of the boulder, the residual height should be greater than 70% so that the fence can
take the second impact which is just to catch the boulder. Flexible barrier size selection : The
selection of the size basically depends upon

The s Reflection Of The Ancient Women
Queering Vivien s poem entails finding the elements of imitation, anonymity, and/or appropriation.
Two of these elements, anonymity and imitation are clear in Vivien s reflection of the ancient
women on Lesbos in herself. Imitation provides Vivien with a means of growing in sexuality, a
gaining of knowledge of the women of Lesbos s ways. The ancient Lesbians work as a template,
but suddenly become the same as the lesbians of Vivien s timereferred to as our (18). The result of
imitation is growing nearer toward the likeness of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien s body
metaphorically becomes a reflecting mirror, taking up all aspects of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien
and her lesbians go beyond queer imitation to a new form, the same form as the ancient Lesbians.
Vivien s group cannot be distinguished from the ancient Lesbians, since they all mirror one another.
Imitation renders Vivien s bodies queer and identical.
There is no singular body at any point only but our bodies. Anonymity then is also relevant to
Vivien s poem. One cannot differentiate between the present our bodies and ancient their bodies
either. No difference exists between them, as they are mirror images of each other. The bodies in
the poem are queer as they are both anonymous and imitated, yet simultaneously the bodies
transcend time. Bridging a long period of time (ancient Greece to 19th centure Britain) means
Vivien does not have a full picture of how these women of Lesbos lived. Imitating the past

Interview With Film Composer Chris Hajian Of The Infiltrator
Interview with Film Composer Chris Hajian of The Infiltrator
Pablo Escobar has been a popular topic lately. From Narcos on Netflix to Andrea s Di Stefano s
underrated Escobar Paradise Lost, cocaine and greed can t get anymore bombastic in the
entertainment zeitgeist. Yet with director Brad Furman s (The Lincoln Lawyer), The Infiltrator, the
infamous Columbian drug load plays only second to agent Robert Mazur (played wonderfully by
Bryan Cranston), the man who brings down the world s largest cartel. It s a refreshing angle on the
subject matter with stellar performances (most notably John Leguizamo s radically different and
award worthy role) to match. Yet, one of the biggest highlights of the filmis that of film composer
Chris Hajian s (First Position, Yonkers Joe, The Take) score. Hajian manages to keep the film s
music subtle, but with gravitas to capture the heaviness of the situation at bay. It plays to the trend
of synth percussion, a popular sensation seen everywhere from Cliff Martinez s score in Drive to
Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of Stranger Things. Sure it plays to the trend, but doesn t get lost in
it. Hijian has the ear to work with modern sound, but keeps disciplined by incorporating
instrumental sounds that grounds the film, but at the same time keeps it constantly moving. Check
out track I m Being Followed, to hear the complexity of modern synth, layered with piano.
Recently I got the chance to sit down and interview Chris Hajian. Read below to

The Greatest Accomplishments Of Thomas Jonathan Jackson
Thomas Jonathan Jackson started from humble beginnings, and became one of the greatest
Generals in American history. The most important reasons for this were the leadership abilities,
morals, and attributes he developed throughout his life. He was born in northwestern Virginia in
1825. His father passed away along with his older sister to Typhoid Fever two years later. His
Mother remarried but soon realized that she was not long for this world. She sent him to live with
relatives in the frontier. The frontier taught young Jackson the importance of honor and integrity.
There, a man s word was everything. These qualities would set the foundation for the rest of his
development. Thomas never finished high school but attended... Show more content on

He received citations for meritorious service and a promotion to Brevet Major. This stemmed
from his sense of duty, willingness to face danger, and by leading from the front. In the onset of
the Civil War, Jackson s sense of loyalty demanded that he fight for his state. He took charge of
rendezvous camp as a Colonel, drilling raw recruits at Harper s Ferry. He organized the Virginia
militias into disciplined units of the First Brigade. The opening battle to the Civil War was on
July 21 1861. The battle of First Manassas, also known as the battle of Bull Run started with the
Federals beating the Confederates. Henry House Hill was the last rallying possible rallying
point. It was a dire situation for the Confederacy. Jackson had heard the fighting from where he
was in Bull Run. He took initiative and moved off at once towards Henry Hill. Jackson emplaced
his artillery on the main crest of the hill. He then positioned his infantry on the backside of the hill.
This allowed his infantry to cover the gunners while staying out of sight. It was here that Jackson
earned his nickname of Stonewall . A fellow commander named Bee was retreating when he noticed
Jackson on the hill. He knew Jackson would hold. Then he told his troops to rally behind the
Virginians. Jackson s quick reaction and critical thinking allowed his fellow commanders to rally
their troops behind him, ultimately turning the tide of battle. In autumn 1861, Jackson took

Developmental Life Cycle Theory
The family developmental and life cycle theory is the studying of families, which include stages
that the family move through based on life experiences, that are usually predictable depending on
the stage they are in (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015). There are nine tasks that
families must accomplish in order for the familyto achieve well being. In this discussion board
post, I will be discussing task two, which is financing childbearing and child rearing. Having
children, whether planned or not, produces additional expenses for a family that some may not
be prepared for. While parents don t immediately think about long term cost when raising a child,
it is shown that raising a child in American from birth to age 17, is over $241,080, and this
number is expected to increase every year Covert, 2013). It is estimated that over 15 million
children are living in povertyin the United States. These families encounter an imbalance in their
education, health care, and socioeconomic resources (Milteer, Ginsburg, Mulligan, 2012). These
low income families must focus on their daily survival and this creates an economic hardship.
Milteer et al., (2012) shows that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when you incorporate an illness with this disparity, the financial burden of this life
circumstance can be overbearing. Borrero et al., (2015) also found that most families try to
prepare for a pregnancy by getting their finances in order prior to conceiving. However, this family
had no precognition that after they became pregnant, the father would be injured, therefore
reducing their income. In conclusion, as their nurse, I was able to assess their family dynamics
and conclude that by providing them with additional places to get assistance, this family was able
to achieve an acceptable well being until the father was rehabilitated and back on his feet

Forestalling Students In College
The policy that requires educational institutions to dissuade students from pursuing the fields that
they are unlikely to succeed is, at first glance, rather plausible. Certainly a prompt forestalling action
may bring the student back from the detouring path effectively. However, the consequences of this
policy are not immutable. Instead, they vary dramatically with the characteristics of students, and
the time during which the policy is enacted, before or in college. Such complexity of the possible
results of this policy requires careful circumspection. While the author declares such dissuasion is
obligatory, I remain doubtful of this.
First and foremost, the peculiarities of each student can probably lead to the different consequences

Companionship In Guardians Of The Galaxy
I have lived most of my life surrounded by my enemies, I will be grateful to die among my
friends, (Guardians of the Galaxy). Gamora exclaims this to her worried friends as they are about
to battle against Ronen. When she makes this statement it sets the overall theme of companionship.
Companionship is the good feeling you get when you are with someone else (Companionship). It
is having someone by your side that makes you feel cared for. Family, friends, and lovers are
people who promote the feeling of companionship. They are by your side when you need them and
they help you in your struggles. In the movie Guardians of the Galaxy companionship is shown
through expressions and actions of the characters, soundtrack, and the repetition of the importance
of family.
First of all, the movie Guardians of the Galaxy is a film about a group of unique characters who
take on a villain, and save their galaxy. The main character Peter Quill, who goes by the name
Star lord, was abducted as a child, and taken into a new galaxy. He is raised by a bandit, named

ALIGN ADMINISTRATIVE PRACTICES WITH THE ISLLC
STANDARD
We have all met successful leaders that we wondered what enabled them to be effective.
Some were like diamonds, smooth and some are rough. Some are charming and some.....lets that
leave it at that. However you see yourself, whatever your age may be, as soon as you are the one
who makes decisions or exercises authority or make that exciting first hire, you have taken the first
steps in becoming a powerful leader.
While research suggests that the possession of certain traits alone does not guarantee leadership
success, there is evidence that effective leaders are different from other people in certain key
respects. Stogdill (1948) concludes a person does not become a leader by virtue of the possession
of some combination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All leaders are sometimes faced with situational cases; sometimes, you have to settle a teacher or
staff conflict, and trust people and their judgments. That s why having a good sense of judgment
and taking risks is beneficial to becoming a good leader. The final leadership attribute that I view as
essential is shared vision and communication.
Leaders continue to demonstrate the ability to communicate the vision to staff, parents, students,
and community members through the use of symbols, ceremonies, stories, and other activities.
Knowing what you want accomplished may seem clear in your head, but if you try to explain it
to someone else and are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem. I am sure that
we all can relate to that experience at some point in our lives. If this has been your experience,
then you may want to focus on honing your communication skills. Being able to clearly and
concisely describe what you want done is extremely important. If you can t relate your vision to
your team, fellow colleagues and students, you won t all be working towards the same goal.
A leader s strength in communicating is enhanced by humor, trust, and ability to listen to other
viewpoint. In comparison to the attribute of knowledgeable and how it aligns to the ISLLC standard.

Of course there were positive effects that stemmed from this, but negative effects due to the growth of industrialization outnumbered the positive outcomes and are often overshadowed. The environmental hazards and the working conditions of the factory were enough to harm laborers and the gentry (documents 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 11), dulling the positive... The lavish provision of public parks, baths, and free libraries promotes the health, happiness and culture of the industrial orders. Far seldomer than before do we hear the murmur of popular discontent. Sickness and mortality have been reduced to an extent that is almost incredible (doc 10 Abram s, a journalist and historian, published journal account of the improvements to industrial Manchester.) Public health was an extremely important issue that sparked reactions to the polluted water and air, the Corn Laws and the well being of laborers in filthy conditions. Diseases caused or aggravated by atmospheric impurities produced by decomposing animal and vegetable substances, by damp and filth, and close and overcrowded dwellings, prevail among the laboring classes. The annual loss of life from filth and bad ventilation is greater than the loss from death or wounds in modern wars (doc 6), Most workers lack clothing, bed, furniture, fuel wholesome food, even potatoes! They spend from twelve to fourteen hours each day shut up in low ceilinged rooms where with every breath of foul air they absorb fibers of cotton, wool, or particles of copper, lead or iron. They live suspended between an insufficiency of food and an excess of strong drink; they are all wizened, sickly and emaciated, their bodies thin and frail, their limbs ... They have characteristics that pursue the admiration from the companies. Virtuoso teams aren t similar because they play by a set of rules completely different like the regular groups. They use a criteria according each member skills. Well as the rest of the teams would you think, and that is not the same way that they look. For example, traditional team s members are typically selected randomly. In Virtuoso teams members are handpicked selected those who play a specific role with high quality performance. • 7. Communism And Communism Around The World Communism Throughout the years, humans have come up with many, many ideas. Some ideas, like expressing language using symbols (writing) or a machine that could transmit sound energy using electricity (telephone) are fundamental to our everyday lives. Other ideas, such as a USB pet rock (http:/ /www.thinkgeek.com/product/c208/), are just plain head scratching. But in 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote a book about an idea that would change the world. That idea is still around the world today. The name of their book? The Communist Manifesto . Communismis a society where private property and social classes are non existent, the government owns any and all materials required to make products, and gives everyone what they need to get by. In Communism, there are no social classes. Everyone is equal to their fellow citizens. The idea of Communism became very influential in the 20th century, as it helped inspire communist revolutions in many different countries around the world. Marx believed that mankind s one issue throughout the years was a clash between different social classes. Marx isn t completely wrong when he says that. No one likes being told what to do by a group of people from the dominant social class , but Marx s idea was a bit extreme. He came to the conclusion that, Hey, if social classes are the real problem here, why don t we have a class less society? . In theory, everyone would get along and be equal. • 8. Corporate Culture Of Enron And Bankruptcy Introduction The case study is about Enron and about their biggest failure that lead the company towards bankruptcy. Enron got bankrupt to the extent that was no point of returning back and reversing its wrong doings. The only thing that the company had to think about was how to return the losses of its creditors. EnronCorp. was left with $12 billion in assets which was to be distributed among more than 20,000 creditors. Around 80% of creditors of Enron backed the long awaited reorganization plan of the company. Creditors were seeking to recover more than $1200 billion. According to Stephen F. Cooper, who was the interim chief executive officer of the company said that only $67 billion was the justified amount. The amount of assets that was available to creditors could grow if the management of Enron succeeded with the mega claim against financial institutions and leading banks that helped the organization in creating complex deals which helped it inflate cash flow and hide debt (Niskanen, 2005). Corporate Culture of Enron and Bankruptcy Heavily influenced by the culture to compete rather co operate, employees at Enron were motivated and driven by huge bonuses and they became scared of the ranking criteria. They were also scared by being asked to leave the company of they did not perform well. All this resulted in unhealthy business activities, which drove colleagues to push each other backwards rather than to help each other to finalize the deal or execute the sale ... • 9. Cellulite Cellulite is a condition of adipose origin in which adipose tissue protrudes through the dermis causing an orange peel or cottage cheese type dimpling of skin seen most commonly on the thighs and buttocks of many post pubertal women. The initial changes leading to cellulite formation appear to be deterioration of the capillary network, vascular changes and abnormal deposits of glycosaminoglycans, leading to excess fluid retention within subcutaneous tissues. A variety of treatments ranging from topical creams to laser therapies are currently available, claiming to reduce the dimpled skinappearance however successful results are often anecdotal, subjective or not present at all. Cellulite can be primarily found in any area of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inability to repair tissue damage due to continued oedema and vascular congestion can lead to thickening and sclerosis of the fibrous septae in the superficial adipose tissue and deep dermis, creating the clinical appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is an unwanted condition and a rising demand for cellulite reduction has new non invasive treatment modalities becoming popular. Currently there are numerous medications, devices and diverse therapies that allegedly treat cellulite however there is little evidence to support long term effectiveness. Due to the nature of cellulite, effective treatment would need to repair and strengthen the dermis as well as expel the fat protrusion back underneath the dermis. Retinoids are thought to increase dermal collagen fibres, allowing the dermis to prevent further herniation of fat as the collagen deposition makes the dermis much stronger, therefore reducing the appearance of cellulite. Endermologie is a hand held mechanical system used to simulate manual massages of the skin. It is hypothesized that it is able to reduce the appearance of cellulite by causing damages to the subcutaneous fat cells by positive (rolling) and negative (suction) pressures, disrupting fat cells and allowing for better distribution of subcutaneous fat. Colonialism in North America England s desire for economic gain and religious freedom sparked the beginning of their interest in colonialism in America (Gouch, LeGuin, Walton, 1998). While some settlers came to America in search of gold or other riches, the Puritans that settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to escape religious persecution and have freedom to worship as they desired. The British, unwilling to give up their rule, even went as far as to demand that Colonist pay for the protection of the British Army and Navy. The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was inevitable (Joes, 1996). Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of religion and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of England. Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted to remain a part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more radical religious group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal of both of both the Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs without fear of persecution by the church or government. England remained firm that the colonist must follow the practice of the Church of England with no variation ( Annenberg Learner, 2013). B2. Indian Independence Movement The general cause of the Indian Independence Movement was India s desire for independence from British, French and Portuguese Rule. The aim of the movement was Swaraj, a self governing India (Sharma, 2005, p. 22). • 13. Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This is not limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny the existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe, and we are to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument of faithand reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a Logical Bet or W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument. In The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical without having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely on faith but it demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in deciding whether a Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a story about a ship owner who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was old and not in the best shape as it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner that the ship was not seaworthy, the doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the ship owner make the decision to set aside all doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed, and the ship owner collected the insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking in, the ship owners decision to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical. As the owner it was his responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected situations, issues, and events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their lives, however, this was not the case. From the ... There are four main categories of play; functional, fictional, receptive and constructive. Functional is sensory motor play which appears during the first 12 months of a child s life. This involves any elusive movements of the hands and feet such as clapping and kicking. Fictional play begins when the child reaches the age of two and is the first stage of pretend and socio dramatic play. It has a symbolic nature where the child uses their imagination to create fantasies and characters. They engage in role play involving themselves and objects which encourages language to develop. Receptive play is when the child will show interest and enjoy listening to stories and looking at pictures. Constructive play involves playing with bricks, sand and blocks, as well as any other natural materials and drawing (Fontana, 1995). Some say that play s place in the curriculum is problematic (Bennett et al. 1998). When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels, and the tallit as a method of personal expression. The Origins of the Tallit Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it, come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments: Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue. • 20. Love In Hamlet And Ophelia Love is different for each and every individual. It is so powerful that people cry, suffer pain, or even risk their lives to save it. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or even the love that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It is that kind of love that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, especially when it comes to Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s advisor, the ever forgetful and meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for Ophelia was not only fabricated, but unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long meditation on the nature of being and death, Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to return some of the remembrances that Hamlet gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given Ophelia anything and continues to erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he never loved her at all. The problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims to love Ophelia amidst a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia. Not only does he doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to eavesdrop on him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a nunnery rather than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself, saying that no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in shambles. Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is completely no love that he shares with Ophelia. In a way, Hamlet seems convinced that Ophelia is the love of her life, but yet he has the behavior of insulting her and not giving her the priority that she needs. His character portrays a man who cannot be connected to his self and this leads him to a number of problems as regards the way he treats Ophelia. It is not just the feelings that Hamlet has towards Ophelia that describes his love for her but his actions say a lot on the feeling that is in the inside. Reaching to an extent that he can ... • 38. The Shinto Religion Essay ORIGINS The religion we know as Shinto is native to Japan and was first practiced sometime before the year 500 B.C.E. The name Shinto comes from a Chinese phrase meaning Way of the Gods . It was first used to describe the native Japanese religion in the 8th Century C.E. It is currently the official religion of Japan along with Buddhism (Ono 1 3). There is a less common name for Shintothat comes directly from the Japanese language, which is Kami no michi which also means Way of the Gods (Renard 18). While Shinto has existed for more than 2500 years, there is no distinct founder, there is no body of religious law and there is no specific scripture as there are in other religions (Ono 2). Despite all of these differences,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most prominent of these was Amaterasu, the sun goddess. Amaterasu is the most important and most revered Kami in Shinto, we can see an example of this when looking at the current Japanese flag which shows a red circle representing the rising sun of Japan, also the symbol of Amaterasu (DesRivieres 100 101). In Shinto there are four Affirmations ; things that are important in life, things that should be honoured. The first is tradition and family, the second is nature, the third is physical cleanliness and the last is the Kami. All of these things should be accorded the highest honour (Robinson). For a religion with such a rich history, Shinto has a surprisingly underdeveloped theology (Ono 2). There is no specific system of laws or beliefs; it usually borrows the moral code of Confucianism. One of Shinto s few concrete beliefs is that while all animals are special, humans in particular are sacred because humanity is the child of the Kami. One place where Shinto is especially vague is in its depiction of the afterlife. We do know that there is a land of the dead thanks to the story of Izanami and Izanagi, and we know that it is unclean , but that is the only description of this land that we have. They had to take into consideration environmental stressors like predation and temperature because that can change the lethality of the insecticide. They used three insecticide formulations: mosquito bits, mosquito dunks, and mosquito torpedoes. Mosquito dunks showed the biggest significance because they caused a decrease in tadpole survival when used with a predator. • 46. The s Reflection Of The Ancient Women Queering Vivien s poem entails finding the elements of imitation, anonymity, and/or appropriation. Two of these elements, anonymity and imitation are clear in Vivien s reflection of the ancient women on Lesbos in herself. Imitation provides Vivien with a means of growing in sexuality, a gaining of knowledge of the women of Lesbos s ways. The ancient Lesbians work as a template, but suddenly become the same as the lesbians of Vivien s timereferred to as our (18). The result of imitation is growing nearer toward the likeness of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien s body metaphorically becomes a reflecting mirror, taking up all aspects of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien and her lesbians go beyond queer imitation to a new form, the same form as the ancient Lesbians. Vivien s group cannot be distinguished from the ancient Lesbians, since they all mirror one another. Imitation renders Vivien s bodies queer and identical. There is no singular body at any point only but our bodies. Anonymity then is also relevant to Vivien s poem. One cannot differentiate between the present our bodies and ancient their bodies either. No difference exists between them, as they are mirror images of each other. The bodies in the poem are queer as they are both anonymous and imitated, yet simultaneously the bodies transcend time. Developmental Life Cycle Theory The family developmental and life cycle theory is the studying of families, which include stages that the family move through based on life experiences, that are usually predictable depending on the stage they are in (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015). There are nine tasks that families must accomplish in order for the familyto achieve well being.
