The s The Egg And The Sperm
The Construction and Use of Nature for Authority One common perception of nature is that it is
something raw, untouched by human civilization. This point of view suggests that humans are
completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way
unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also
deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg
and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female
Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to
examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender
stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction
process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong
rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical
purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates
how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and
sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the
power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). By associating the egg with feminine
traits and the sperm with masculine traits, scientists make these

Essay On Master Sugar Artist
Unless you are an avid viewer of the Food Network or delve very deeply into the world of cake
decorating and sugar work, the name Kerry Vincent might not ring a bell. However, I spent my
sick days as a small child watching The Food Network Challenge and immediately admiring the
painfully harsh comments that originated from Kerry Vincent. When given the task of
interviewing a person I find to be successful, it didn t take long before my thoughts turned toward
her. Besides being a judge on The Food Network Challenge , she holds the title of Master Sugar
Artist, founded the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show, and assisted in introducing fondant and gum paste
to the United States. I was ecstatic to receive an email back inquiring about when the interview
would take place. On television, Kerry Vincent can seem harsh, and she is often criticized for
being so. This is one of the reasons I admire her. She tells the truth... Show more content on

If you are a pastry chef at a prestigious kitchen and someone asks you a question about your craft
and you cannot give an answer, you will look foolish and the respect that drove that person to
ask you the question will have been lost. However, if you are exceptionally knowledgeable about
your craft and are able to speak on the topic well, the person will respect you more. On another
note, it is not professional to seem to have no knowledge on what is supposed to be your job.
The Culinary Institute of America prides itself on professionalism. The last think I want to do is
to give the CIA a bad name because I was unprepared. This principle is evident when Mrs.
Vincent is judging a competition. Kerry Vincent is known for giving harsh criticisms, but no one
has ever corrected her because she is never wrong. Also, no one ever has to ask her to repeat herself
because she says exactly what she means very clearly and

Essay On Tribal Tattoos
While tribal tattooing has a history as far back as tattooing itself, these types of images have
gained a huge increase in general popularity, beginning in the early 1990s. Traditional tribal
tattooing was (and is) done for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons for tribal tattoos
include rites of passage, social status, or even simple family identification. Some tribes also believe
tattoos hold magical or spiritual significance. Of course, there are also instances where tribe
members get tattooed simply for aesthetic reasons. Some of the most well known variations of
tribal tattoos come from tribes from Borneo, the Polynesian Islands, the Maori, Native Americans,
and Celtic tribes. Tattoos of Chinese and Japanese characters have also become very commonplace
among Westerners.
One common thread throughout both traditional and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One appealing aspect is the bold nature of the images. Tribal tattoos are almost always done in
black, often with thick, interweaving lines that show up very strongly against the skin. Also,
because of the bold, solid black nature of the images, tribal tattoos are less likely to fade or blur,
giving them greater longevity. Both the tattoo artist and the receiver of the artwork have a lot of
artistic freedom with tribal type tattoos, as much or most of the modern types of this artwork has
little to do with any specific actual tribe. Almost any kind of image can be turned into a tribal
design, so you see many varieties of this kind of artwork. If you don t want to create your design
or do not have one in mind already, professional tattoo artists will nearly always have books of
flash designs for you to pick from. Another appealing aspect of tribal tattoos is that the designs
tend to work very well in popular body areas for tattooing, such as the upper arms and the back.
Arm and leg bands are some of the most common styles of tribal

Essay On Richard Jury
Richard Jury is the fictional lead in the Richard Jury series of novels by bestselling American
mystery thriller writer Martha Grimes. Grimes wrote the first novel featuring the lead character
Jury titled The Man With a Load of Mischief in 1981. The novels series is so popular that over
three decades since first publication, it is still ongoing.
Richard Jury the chief protagonist is a Scotland Yarddetective who starts out in the rank of chief
inspector and rises to superintendent. The detective works alongside Alfred Wiggins his dependable

Review Of Dennett s Quining Qualia
Paper 1 Question 3: Dennett s Quining Qualia
Daniel Dennett looks to quine qualia, or completely disprove their existence, in Quining Qualia. He
is successful in creating a theoretical framework by which many intuitive arguments for qualia can
be struck down. Because of his success, an argument from introspection is difficult to make;
Dennett seems to successfully refute many of the arguments given by intuition or folk psychology.
I will adopt Eugene Park s criticism in critiquing Dennett, showing that an argument from
introspection can provide some insight into how qualia might exist. Park argues that relying on
memory comparison is incomplete, and unfairly eliminates direct apprehensibility.
Introduction
In Quining Qualia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes qualia inherently private. The fourth and last quality is direct apprehensibility to
consciousness. This describes the fact that we know everything about our own qualia, and we can
easily access all of its properties. Dennett explains that because qualia are properties of my
experiences, they therefore must be accessible to one s conscious states (229).
The coffee test case: Intuition pump 7 Chase and Sanborn Dennett uses the seventh intuition pump
to explore the relationship between qualia and reactive attitudes to those qualia. The situation
involves two coffee tasters who work for Maxwell House, ensuring that each batch is of consistent
quality. After six years of tastings, both Chase and Sanborn declare that they used to like the tasteof
the coffee, but that this is no longer the case. Chase says that he thinks that the coffee tastes the
same as it did six years ago, but that he has become a more sophisticated coffee drinker and his
more unfavorable reaction (or reactive attitude) towards the coffee has decreased his enjoyment of
it. Sanborn, however, does not like the coffee because he says his taste buds have changed, and
now the coffee tastes worse than before. Sanborn claims that his taste qualia have changed, not his
reactive attitude towards the coffee. It is difficult, however, to discern whether Chase and Sanborn
are actually correct in

History, Products And Profitability Indicators
Background: History, Products and Profitability indicators
The Toy Industry of traditional toys has been around since the fourteenth century and has evolved
into a multi billion dollar industry. The Toy Industry big contenders are Mattel (U.S), Hasbro (U.S),
and LEGO (Denmark). Products of this industry include: action figure/accessories/role play,
building sets, dolls, games/puzzles, outdoor and sport toys, infant/preschool, and all other toys.
The early toy industry began in Nuremberg and Groeden Valley, Germany in the fourteenth century
where craftsmen carved dolls and animal figures out of wood for youth children to play with.

billions in gross sales. In reference to the chart 1 Barbie brought in $1.2753 billion in 2012
compared to $1.2028 billion in 2013. The 12% decrease in Barbie gross sales reflected product
innovation not being strong enough to drive growth, increased competition within the doll category,
along with lower effectiveness of in store, commercial, and promotional activities (Mattel).
In 1998 Mattel acquired the well established company American Girl Dolls. American Girl bucked
retail trends, expanding its brick and mortar footprint while still achieving incredibly high online
sales numbers the highest in the brand s history. New store economics are strong, nearly doubling
the revenue in a given market and bringing in between 50 60% new customers to the brand (Mattel
Toys). American Girl Dolls is in the top 4 doll franchises in the world.
During the 18th century tin army toys for boys emerged along with miniature kitchen sets for
girls. The toys during the 18th century were very gender based; masculine toys for boys, while the
girls had toys to encourage household duties and nurturing. Peddlers sold these toys to middle class
families. Today, army and kitchen toys are still very prevalent in the market. In 1963, the most
sophisticated kitchen toy set appeared in the

An Individual Detailed Analysis on the Style, Editing...
An individual detailed analysis on the style, editing techniques Mise en scene and
cinematography in the film Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind . Michael Gondry s Eternal
sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) is not your typical Hollywood rom com. Its cinematic style
is very original and by far out of the ordinary for its genre. The use of techniques and the way the
film is produced is the reason why it is so memorable. The non linear narrative is based around a
middle aged guy who falls in love with a woman, who, after a while into their relationship decides
to erase every single memory and feeling towards him. The story is told in flashbacks that slowly
reveal the time and space the couple spent together and all the events that made... Show more

There are plenty of examples of continuity editing in Eternal sunshine, both temporal and spatial are
used. Discontinuity is used throughout the memory erasing scenes with the deliberate use of
ellipsis as Joel relives his memories in flashbacks. Some of the shots from Joel s memories are put
together in a montage edit; this is another example of discontinuity editing. There are multiple uses
of crosscutting in the film, which is when there are a series of shots that keep cutting back and forth
from one shot to another shot, this occurs in a lot of the flashback scenes. Also there are several
jump cuts, which brakes the continuity edit as in order to achieve a smooth and non noticeable cut
from one shot to another the camera must move 30 degrees or more to attain the continuity in the
movement of shots. But a jump cut is deliberately shot without using the 30 degree rule. Therefore
when you put the shots together they make a jump affect and it brakes up the continuity of the edit.
In this case, Gondry intentionally directed the crosscutting and jump cuts in order to express Joel s
reactions to the procedure. At the beginning of the film the editing picks up a rhythm and runs
smoothly, giving a perfect example of continuity editing, but as the film goes on it begins to switch
between continuity and discontinuity as the edit balances

Essay on The Landlords of the Oceans
The Landlords of the Oceans
Have you ever thought about the landlords of the oceans? There is a saying: Big fish eats the
smaller ones. The most powerful and deadly animals who taste the freedom of the sea world are
whales. So many kinds of whales exist. One of the most interesting kinds is the bottle nosed whale.
It is no wonder why they are given this name. Their bulbous forehead and elongated snout give
them a unique character. Besides these unique physical characteristics, they have other special
qualities as well including their rarity and their enormous size. Northern species and southern
species are the two types of bottle nosed whales that are categorized by the difference in their size,
living habitats and mating seasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Northern species are gray with a lighter underside and a pale band around the neck. The color of
southern species varies more; they have blue black, gray, brown or yellow bodies and light
colored snouts and undersides. However, they share a common treat, males have two conical teeth
in the lower jaw and females have no teeth. In short, the size, color and the shape of bottle nosed
whales vary according to where they are found.
The second quality is their living habitats. Both of the species usually inhabit cold waters deeper
than 3000ft. They are most often observed in deep trenches or canyons in the sea floor. Northern
bottle nosed whales live in the North Atlantic. Significant populations are found in a vast undersea
canyon near Sable Island, Nova Scotia, and north and west of Scotland near the Shetland Islands,
the Orkney Islands, and the Outer Hebrides Islands. Southern bottle nosed whales range throughout
the Southern Hemisphere from Antarcticanorth to the equator. In winter, they are sighted
occasionally off the coasts of the Hawaiian Islands and Japan, as well as in the Pacific and Indian
oceans. The third quality is their mating. Both southern and northern species mating takes place
during the spring. After a gestational period of about 11 months, female bottle nosed whales
deliver a single baby and then nurse it for nearly a year. They give birth every two or three years.

The Beauty Of Computer Science And Computer Engineering
Introduction:
Ever since I was a grade schooler, I enjoyed experimenting with Linux terminal coding and
programming on my computer. I can t forget the very first moment that a simple program I
developed started to work correctly. The beauty of computer science and computer engineering lies
in the notion that even with the numerous innovations in the field, there does exist plenty of room
for improvement. Watching and following the latest trends in the area of embedded systems,
robotics, security and other related fields, I became conscious of the fact that these would be the
focus of the present century. I remember a time when I dropped my father s notebook in junior high

some courses of computer engineering in our faculty to comprehend more on the subject of
security, programming, and algorithms. The level of competitiveness in this major is extremely
high notwithstanding, I wanted to exploit the material I learned through classes in practical
projects and hence I worked on at least one academic project each semester and also I wanted to
perceive their usage in the industry at the same time, thanks to summer internships at the
Nemone Pardaz Azar company for the last 2 years, where I created a communication bridge for
data loggers and worked on automatic hospital beds. Under the supervision of Dr. Ghader

Crucial To Little Women And Treasure Island Analysis
Crucial to Little Women and Treasure Island is Amy March s and Jim Hawkins journey abroad
which also shows the characters trajectory from innocence to maturity. Certainly, both novels
belong to the sub genre of bildungsroman which is by definition, a story that depicts a journey
from childhood to maturity. In spite of their different goals and outcomes, it is possible to trace
some sort of parallelism between both journeys as they were indirectly intended to shape their
characters in line with the social norms of that time. First and foremost, in Little Women, Amy s
castle in the air was to be an artist, and go to Rome, and do fine pictures, and be the best artist in
the whole world (Alcott, 2008). In part two of Little Women, Amy travels abroad to Europe as a...

These pieces ranged from printed books describing fictional characters struggles, to a film

governmental control. All the authors were able to construct this idea of most commonly a

Tuesdays With Morrrie Analysis
Everyone ends up dying. That is a consistent theme throughout the book Tuesdays with Morrie
written by Mitch Albom. Tuesdays with Morrie is a biography written in a journalistic style
with dashes of humor. Mitch interviewed his old college psychology professor who was dying
of ALS. Morrie is a good role model because even though he is dying, he is still finding a way to
be optimistic. Throughout the book, Morrie shares his life and all of the lessons he has learned
with Mitch. I really enjoyed reading about his advice and lessons because the lessons are
broadening; the lessons have helped me view life with a new perspective. A reader can truly learn
a lot from this book. Morrie discusses important life lessons: loving one another, having a good
marriage, and money s not everything. From this book, the reader will learn that Morrie is a
loving and gentle man. I appreciated this because I see some of those qualities in myself. Morrie
is an immensely relatable man. In one of his interviews with Mitch he said, Devote yourself to
loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating
something that gives you purpose and meaning (Morrie 127). I think more people should devote
more time to loving themselves, other people, and the things surrounding them. Everyone should

Essay on Ernest Green
Ernest Green
Throughout the American South, of many Negro s childhood, the system of segregation
determined the patterns of life. Blacks attended separate schools from whites, were barred from
pools and parks where whites swam and played, from cafes and hotels where whites ate and slept.
On sidewalks, they were expected to step aside for whites. It took a brave person to challenge this
system, when those that did suffered a white storm of rancour. Affronting this hatred, with
assistance from the Federal Government, were nine courageous school children, permitted into the
1957/8 school year at Little Rock Central High. The unofficial leader of this band of students was
Ernest Green.

If one of the chosen students failed in their exams, the segregationists would declare integration a
failure. Of all the children from the Horace Mann High School and Dunbar Junior High School,
eighty signed up to attend Central High. After numerous interviews and exams, thirty two children
were considered eligible . This number was reduced to nine after the ramifications of black students
entering an all white high school prompted many of them to decline the transition into an arena
where mental and physical violence would be forced upon them daily. Understanding this it is clear
that Ernest Green is an extraordinary young man from the outset. He obviously possessed
remarkable intelligence and defended a strong belief in his intentions for relocating in his pivotal
senior year. All of the children that had reached this far into the selection would have sensed that
they were a part of an uncertain, yet historic situation, that would further Negro rights.
Ernest Green was well aware of the discrimination present amongst segregationists in Little Rock.
Since the age of eleven he had worked during his holidays and adapted well with his fellow white
workers. Working as a stockboy, cleaner and part time salesperson, Ernest was proficient in his
duties, until he tasted the sting of prejudice when customers complained about his position in the
store. Segregationists may not have accepted such a confident youth, but his mother

A Feminist Stance In Politics
A Feminist Stance in Politics in the Middle East During the first few weeks of my Women

Julia Lesage. This reading was informative and also had arguments about feminist documentaries
based in the Middle East that I really agreed with. The first film we watched was a documentary
called The Play the second documentary was called The Four Women of Egypt. Although the
women in the films are very different, they all have a very strong feminist perspective that have
assisted in making a difference in this world and to me. Pelin Esmer, the director of The Play

Trover Legal Case
Facts: This case concerns trover, an action at common law to recover the value of personal
property which was disposed of improperly by another. It concerns the market value of 242 cords
of timber, which was harvested from public land given to an Indian reservation. The timber was
cut when those that cut the timber knew it was Indian property on Indian land. The timber was
sold by defendant in another town to an awaiting purchaser for value. History: Affirmed. Issue: Is
the defendant s liability the value of the timber that gets added when resold in the market place, or
the wholesale value at the place where the timber was cut? Ruling: The court ruled that an unlawful

Dead Poets Society Comparison
The movie Dead Poets Society is about a group of boys that go to Welton Academy, a boys only
private school. A new English teacher, Mr. Keating, starts teaching them about poetry, and how
to think for themselves. The boys aren t sure what to think of Mr. Keating and look him up only
to find out he was a part of the Dead Poets Society. Neil Perry asked Mr. Keating what it was about
and the boys restarted the club. Neil realizes that he doesn t want to be a doctor like his father
wants, so he auditions for a play. This causes a lot of problems for all of the boys because they
all start to realize that they are unhappy as well. The movie Dead Poets Society and Self Reliance
by Ralph Emerson are very similar. Emerson talks about the need to stand

The Moonstone
Following the concept of the novel as an epistolary, the prologue is an extract of the family papers
written in India by an unnamed cousin of Herncastle who depicts the events leading up to
Herncastle s looting of the treasury in Seringapatam. The prologue plays an important role in
informing the readers that before the Moonstone goes missing from Rachel s boudoir, it is foremost
stolen from the Indians by an Englishman. By beginning the novelwith a striking... scene of
brutality and greed committed by an English soldier (Free 347), Collins sets the tone of his
argument for the rest of the novel. The fact that it is an Englishman who commits the crime is
crucial. This is significant because Collins was writing The Moonstone during the height of British
sovereignty in India and he begins the novel with an Englishman, not an Indian, as... Show more

Collins seems to side against imperialism as he marks Herncastle as the one responsible.
As mentioned earlier, the prologue is an excerpt from the family paper, which highlights the
family s desire and intentions to keep this story within the family and away from the public. The
author of the prologue states this intention as well: I beg it to be understood that what I write here
about my cousin... is for the information of the family only (Collins 15). Although, to digress,
another irony is how it is now included in the archive, that is, in fact, The Moonstone, (Free 340),
thus exposed to the public. The cousin goes to the extent of writing anonymously in order to avoid
backlash for exposing a fellow family member. Specifically, he writes, I cannot

A Reflection On My Values Speech
By reflecting upon my Values Speech, I will be more aware of what skills I have already
accomplished and what skills I need to improve on in order to prepare myself better for the next
big speech as well as to further improve my public speaking skills. Now that I look back at the
recording of my presentation, I clearly saw strengths that were shown, but there were also
weaknesses that I revealed, diminishing the overall powerful effect that my speechshould have
gave. As I watched Amy Cuddy s TED talk called Your body language
shapes who you are , I
learned more about body language and what I should ve done when I presented my Values Speech.
Throughout my reflection, I will discuss my strengths that I portrayed during my speech such as
pacing and eye contact as well as the limitations, for instance, stuttering and abruptly finishing my
sentences, and then I will finish off my reflection with the levels of confidence and body language I
portrayed.
First off, there were many strengths that I believed were demonstrated within my Values Speech
such as pacing and eye contact with my fellow classmates, but despite the strengths that were
seen, the weaknesses of stuttering and finishing sentences abruptly created a weak feeling at the
end of my presentation. As I watched the recording of my presentation on repeat, I noticed that
my pacing was very well executed. I didn t speak too fast nor did I speak too slow, which is
good because my classmates were able to follow along with what I was saying. Not only that,
but I also provided eye contact to my classmates, showing that I was well prepared and did not
need to read my note cards as much. Of course, with strengths, there were also weaknesses
portrayed. I often stuttered at a couple of phrases because of my anxiety and I would also finish
some of my sentences abruptly, leaving a poor execution. I realized that once I began saying a
certain sentence and mess up mid way through, I would end the sentence with words that wouldn t
be as clear. Now knowing my weaknesses and strengths, I will better prepare myself for my next
upcoming speech by practicing my speeches with more word choices when I say it verbally,
allowing myself to become more aware of the variety of

Neruda
The first half of Neruda s poem offers context to beauty within the structure. The choice of beautiful
content ultimately offers a stronger point in his protest since he explains what people expect him to
write.
The poem begins by questioning the reader, assuming that the reader would ask Neruda, where
are the lilacs?/ And the poppy petalled metaphysics?/ And the rain repeatedly spattering/ and
drilling them full/ of apertures and birds? Neruda decided to engage the reader by acknowledging
the reader s need for a typically beautiful poem. Due to the assumption, the first half of the poem

Beowulf And The Epic s Christian Identity
Beowulf and the Epic s Christian Identity
Composed in early eighth century by an unknown author the epic poem Beowulf, follows the
exploits of the protagonist of the same name. Originally composed orally by a tribe s scop, the epic
of Beowulf delivers insight on the lives and adventures of characters that lived in the sixth century.
Although, the tale of Beowulf was formulated during post Roman collapse by presumably pagan
people; written around seven hundred A.D., it is probable that a Christian monk transcribed the
grand narrative implanting Christian motifs and ideals into pagan Scandinavian culture. Therefore,
the result of this concoction is a blended storyline infused with religious imagery and allusion along
with traditional Nordic beliefs of war and honor. The tale, and arguably, the tragedy of Beowulf
illustrate the conflict between the Pagan elements and Christian tenets, as aspects of both are
present in the epic. The underlying Christian and Pagan values in Beowulf illustrate the iniquity of
mankind and its eventual downfall through allusion to god, symbolism, and vices and virtues of
warrior man.
Firstly, Hrothgar s monologue foreshadows the climax and tragedy of man; moreover, Hrothgar s
speech illuminates the end of both warrior and king. For example, after the battle in which Grendel
is defeated, Hrothgar say, First and foremost, let the Almighty father be thanked for this sight. I
suffered a long harrowing by Grendel. But the Heavenly Shepard can work His

she felt knowing all eyes were upon her chest, upon the mark. She showed no signs of emotion,

Business Communication Is The Art Of Communicating
Business communication is the art of communicating in a professional environment. It is both an
art and science and the life s blood of any successful corporation. The premise of business
communication is that the writer is always speaking with the audience in mind. She has to make
the content relevant and usable to the reader or it is not effective. Unlike other forms of writing,
such as academic writing which has a captive audience, business writing is always a negotiation
with a fluid audience that has the ability to come or go as they please. It is this dynamic fluidity
that draws the Millennial Generation to the field of business communication in droves. The
Millennial Generation is defined as those born in the early 1981 to 1996 (Millennials in Adulthood).
The digitized world of the Millennials has also transformed the field of business communication.
The Millennials have influenced workplace communication by creating continuously connected
work teams, collaboration without boarders, and greater diversity in employee engagement. The
intertwining of social media, Millennials, and workplace communication has made the workplace a
more flexible and productive environment. The previous generation could only transform what they
could touch; therefore they were limited in their connectivity and productivity. These generations
known as the baby boomers and the silent generation, were limited to their one departmental idea.

A Brief Note On The Kingdom Of Bhutan
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small country with a total area of 38, 394 square kilometres and a
population of approximately 745, 000 (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Agriculture is one of
the main ways of life for the population of Bhutan, as approximately 56% of the total population
is engaged in agriculture and forestry (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). Even though a large
portion of the population relies on agriculture, only 12 percent of Bhutan s total land area consists
of farmlands and grazing areas because of Bhutan s diverse regions (Zurick, 2006). The majority of
the land available for agriculture is limited due to steep topography and high altitude (Gurung
Seeland, 2011). The rugged mountainous terrain has elevations ranging from 160 7000 metres
(Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While agriculture is the primary source of income for the
population of Bhutan, a major source of revenue for the government is the export of electricity from
hydropower projects (Royal Government of Bhutan, 2015). While Bhutan is a small developing
country, this has not hindered our ambitions in climate action. Bhutan is the sole country in the
world that measures Gross National Happiness rather than Gross Domestic Product. GNH generates

The Image Of Blood In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah has been through just about everything a soldier in can experience while in war,
and he wants to show how war is not a good solution. If we do not take what he says into account,
loved ones may be taken from us and have to experience what he once did as a soldier. Or worse,
our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on
the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about
war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer.
He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently.
Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed
from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the
way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is
not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story
and the overall tone of the book.
In a village, at the time of a rebel attack, Beah sees a mother carrying her baby on her back. The
baby is covered in blood, and its mother is covered in her baby s blood. The baby plays a huge part
in imagery in A Long Way Gone. I see a mother carrying her dead child on her back (Beah pg. 13).

caused confusion amongst staff and soldiers on what the DCO s role actually was and what he
was responsible for. Allowing the DCO to function as deputy commander is vital to ensuring
that our unit command structure remains in place.
I was recently contacted by the brigade provost marshal and informed about an undocumented
report of a brigade sniper shooting and killing and Iraqi civilian. I was further informed that the
soldier who reported it to provost marshal had previously informed it to the Brigade S 2 but it
was not clear if any investigation had been done on this matter. The reporting soldier has also
threatened to take the story to the media if nothing is done. While this matter is currently being
investigated, I believe that the root cause of this problem was the lack of properly trained snipers
at the platoon level. While the MTOE authorized one per platoon, the operating environment
required more. This resulted in undertrained snipers being deployed. An increase in the number
of school trained and authorized snipers could have resolved this problem.

Sternberg s triangular theory of love
Robert Sternberg s theory of love is best explained in the context of interpersonal relationships. An
interpersonal relationship can be defined as two or more people who have a strong, deep or close
association. The three components Sternberg uses are intimacy, passion and commitment. His
theory uses 6 manifestations which are combinations of the three components. This covers a variety
of different kinds of relationships in human kind.

Staying married for a lifetime, retiring together and having the extended family with grandchildren

relationships that pertain to Sternberg s theory of love, the three components and the 6

Empty love, many women stay in a marriage where they don t even like their spouse, usually
because there is some kind of abuse going on. The friendship, women are more intimate with
friends and confide in their friends making it a more intimate relationship. In old age companionate
love is common, although there may not be much intimacy, there is love and commitment, making
it a fulfilling relationship. Of course everyone is different so this is only my opinion. The
relationship between mother and child is usually the strongest relationship a woman can have in my
eyes. There is no more commitment, love, compassion, and fulfillment in life than the bond in this
relationship. While we encourage technology and expect more from it, I think we start to expect
less from one another. People become less personal, they meet in forums, instead of hanging out

The Importance Of Augustus, The First Emperor Of The Roman...
Throughout the Roman Empire, many new perceptions and strong leaders began to rise to overall
power. These new perceptions and leaders helped build the structure of the history of the world. One
of these resilient leaders was Augustus, who was considered to be the first emperor of the historical
Roman Empire. During his reign as the first emperor, Augustus established many new and fulfilling
virtues. Some of these virtues included the idea of taxation being more reasonable for citizens. He
also implemented the creation of roads and the ultimate revamping of the Roman city. In order to
document his lifetime and role as a Roman leader, Augustus decided to scribe many of his
experienced achievements, successes, and victories. More importantly, he used this subjective
inscription to successfully display his leadership and consultant persona during his reign.
Throughout the inscription of the Res Gestae, Augustus expresses and legitimates his diplomatic
authority by describing his many political successes, social achievements, and military victories to
seek the approval of citizens throughout his reign during the Roman Empire.
During his admired reign, Augustus claimed to have proficiency in many political successes that
ultimately expresses and legitimates his authority. Along with exiling the murderers of his father,
he describes how he undertook many civil and foreign wars by land and sea throughout the world

Ego Prohibits Self-Awareness In Annie Baker s Body Awareness
Ego prohibits self awareness. In the world today many people are nervous of not fitting in with
society so they create a big ego to hide behind their flaws. This kind of growth is evident in
Annie Baker s first play Body Awareness by one of the main characters, Jared. Jared is a twenty
one year old, slightly autistic boy who still lives with his gay parents, Joyce and Phyllis. Joyce
and Phyllis have been telling Jared he has Aspergers ever since he was five years old.
Throughout the play Jared shows many signs of Aspergers, but he will not admit it to himself or
allow his parents accusations to be correct. Though Jared is conscious of these signs, he is
constantly coming up with excuses in order to seem perfect for he believes this will make his
parents happy. In the dramatic comedy Body Awareness written by Annie Baker, the author
displays that self confidence prevents one s self consciousness. Ego can prohibit the ideaof one s
true self. All Joyce, Jared s mother wants is for Jared to be like any normal kid, but he is not.
This upsets her, and she constantly tries to bring up the fact that he may have Asperger s and
proceeds to explain why. Jared and Joyce, are having a civilized conversation while cooking
dinner when Joyce brings up a psychologist and Jared immediately begins to get angry and yells,
I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that I don t have it... I AM NOT FUCKING RETARDED
(Baker 12). Jared s anger towards Asperger s and his mother comes out, and he

Animal Testing Benefits
The Benefits of Animal Testing Animal research is a very controversial topic. This form of testing
should be the top funding priority because of all the scientific advances that have been made. This
paper will highlight a few of the many reasons that animal testing is a very useful scientific tool.
Animal testinghas improved the quality of medicinethat is readily available to the general public.
The California Biomedical Research Association has reported that almost all of the medical
breakthroughs was the result of animal testing in the last 100 years (1). Experiments involving
the removal of a dog s pancreas helped with the discovery of insulin (2). Many animals are used to
help lead to more discoveries everyday. The polio vaccine was

The Zone Diet And Protein Analysis
Earlier we learned that water is the main chemical in our bodies. Coming in number two is protein.
The word protein actually means first substance due to the fact that the first food fuel we ever
consumed was our mother s milk. Milk is the only food specifically designed to sustain mammalian
life and therefore human life. Milk has two proteingroups:
Whey which is the complete protein that makes milk so essential to life and;
Casein which is used for manufacturing cheese and other milk by products.
One of the problems you can have in understanding protein is that there is so much information out
there on protein, most of it contradictory, most of it wrong. It s time that you had the truth about
protein; just the facts and nothing but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Single Free Form Amino Acids
Single free form amino acids are manufactured through fermentation by microorganisms in large
biological chambers. These can be manufactured as pharmaceutical grade pure injectables or as
food grade products. As food products, amino acids they are very costly, taste terrible, have poor
mixability, high digestive irritability and are absorbed relatively slowly.
3. Soy Protein
As scientists we find it particularly vexing that there is so much information being peddled by
marketing companies regarding soy protein being the best source of protein for women. This is
due to the fact that soy is a BIG business in the US. And soy manufacturers actually have lobbyists
on the payroll helping to create the big lie. There is no other way to state the facts other than to
say that calling soy the best, most complete protein for women is totally inaccurate as it is missing
a highly critical amino acid, methionine. Facts are facts and there is no way to dispute this

The Cold Equation By Tom Godwin Summary
Fall 2017 Dialogue Assignment The Cold Equations is a short story written by Tom Godwin.
Barton is a character on a different planet and is an EDS pilot. EDS are used for emergencies
and other calls that are urgent. In Barton s case he is flying towards Wooden, which is a planet,
where six men have been stranded, struck with a fever that could kill them without the right
serum, which they did have but with their luck, it was destroyed by a tornado. Barton s mission is
to fly back to earth, get the serum and then fly to Wooden. The only problem with the EDS is that
it is very small and stores just enough fuel to get to the destination and back. Any other mass
weight which was not calculated for could crash the plane. While Barton was... Show more content

Me: He is right, there was a big sign that said to stay out. Marilyn should have kept to herself, or at
least ask if she could go on to see her brother.
Marilyn s Mom: I don t care what the sign says! There should have been a better warning, my
poor girl just wanted to see her brother who she hasn t seen in 10 years. Barton should have been
more careful and checked EVERYWHERE to make sure that no one was on the ship.
Jan Narveson: It was right front of her eyes, she should have realized that this was not a place for
her to be in, no matter what the situation is. If she wanted to see her brother she should have just
waited to see him.
Marilyn s Mom: Marilyn obviously did not know the consequences, it is much different on
earth! Nothing is this harsh and so very cruel. I know my little girl and she would not go in there
if she knew that she was going to die. Well, think about this, what if the sign had been changed
and said: COME ON IN, WE WILL TAKE YOU TO YOUR DESTINATION. Would you have
killed her then? It would be all your fault if she had walked in if the sign were to say that.
Me: Well that would make her 100% innocent, but if she is all sweet and innocent we would hope
that she would know that the right thing to do would be to sacrifice herself, to save Barton and the
6 other men.

The Gaze In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Empowerment and disempowerment using the gaze is manifested as one of the fundamental
themes in George Orwell s novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). Written in 1944, Nineteen Eighty
Four is a novel which portrays the experiences of Winston Smith, the protagonist and other
significant characters such as Julia who are bound to live within a totalitarian regime in which the
powerful forces are manipulation and fear. The work of literature demonstrates the visionary
concept of how totalitarian regimes may evolve if they were permitted to do so. The power of the
gaze is investigated in Nineteen Eighty Fourto assess how the protagonists in the book are given
power and also disempowered by the supervising gaze, the desiring gaze and the egalitarian gaze.
Hence, formulating the following research question: How does the notion of the gaze, give power
to and disempower the protagonists in Nineteen Eighty Four?... Show more content on

The influence of the gaze is embodied in unique ways within the totalitarian regime with an
objective to monitor and supervise the citizens behavior. The structure of the empowering gazes

are bound to live within a totalitarian society.

Today one of the greatest atrocities is a silent one. I am not discussing human rights violations. I
am not discussing torture and unjust imprisonment. I am not discussing the rights of speech, press,
and freedom of religion, or rather lack thereof in many countries today. I am discussing another
right: the Right of Death. All previously mentioned rights have been discussed widely now for
over three centuries, yet the Right of Death has only now been discussed sparingly for three
decades. And the lack of the Right of Death leads to more suffering than any of the previous rights
mentioned. Even in today s most just and free countries, we often find this right missing. What is
the Right of Death might you ask? It is simply the right to have... Show more content on

They feel like doctors must perform Medical Assisted on any eligible patient, regardless of what
that doctor s beliefs about the matter are. To those who have good common sense, this belief
seems almost entirely irrationally. Yet as this state of mind commonly arises in the populace, I
will briefly respond to it. Let us begin by discussing this topic in legal terms, by once again
going back to the American Declaration of Independence. As in the previous case, law and
government are entirely matters of interpretation and so the liberty and life previously mentioned
mean that a doctor or a member of a medical staff is at liberty to refuse to take the life of another
person for reasons which are not relating to discrimination. In fact, A majority of doctors approve
of the practice of physician assisted suicide, but most say they would not perform it themselves
according to a University of Michigan study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
(Assisted) The most probable reason for this, is that these doctors believe that Medical Assisted
Suicide interferes with the practices of their own religious beliefs. This is quite frequent, as
according to deathwithdignity.org, more than twenty widespread religions, or sects of religions, are
commonly opposed to Medical Assisted Suicide. Among these are Anglicans, Baptists, Buddhists,

I Am A Professional Athlete
I was sixteen years old when I was asked the question every High School student has to
eventually answer. Where do you think you ll be ten years from now? My answer was always,
Playing professional soccer in Europe. It seems like a big clichГ© when a high school student
responds with wanting to be a professional athlete. But it was my passion, I worked very hard at
it and I was good at it. So it only made sense to go with my heart. I knew to be a professional
soccer player was what I wanted and I never hesitated to say it. Until I was asked, Well, what if
that doesn t work out. Then what will you do? Now, I know it wasn t wrong for my teacher to ask
that question but it did change the way I thought about my life and my future. I ll admit I went to a
Technical High School, so it wasn t the best school to get scouted out of for any sport, no matter
how great my soccer career was at that school. Now I am Eighteen years old and graduating high
school and my next stop is vacation in Portugal for a month. This may have been a vacation for
my Dad but for me it was a stepping stone to my future, as I was getting ready to have try outs
with one of the biggest Soccer teams in Portugal. At least that s what I was told was going to
happen. After everything was said and done, my try outs were with a third division team and not
a top team in the country. This meant I don t get paid. As a person who doesn t speak the language

  • 2. The s The Egg And The Sperm The Construction and Use of Nature for Authority One common perception of nature is that it is something raw, untouched by human civilization. This point of view suggests that humans are completely separated by nature and that our cultures and technologies are in some way unnatural. However, I believe that not only are we a part of nature, but our cultures are also deeply entwined with how we view nature. In this paper, I will review Emily Martin s The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles as well as Michael Pollen s Why Natural Doesn t Mean Anything Anymore in order to examine how nature, culture, and power relate with each other. Martin asserts that gender stereotypes affect biologists description of the natural world, particularly in the human reproduction process. Pollen makes a case that nature in fact lacks any meaning yet is often used as strong rhetoric. I argue that nature is constructed through cultural values and is used for rhetorical purposes, which shows that people manipulate facts in order to gain authority. Martin investigates how cultural stereotypes of the two sexes are subtly incorporated into descriptions of the egg and sperm in scientific papers. She expresses that giving stereotypical roles to the egg and sperm has the power to naturalize our social conventions about gender (501). By associating the egg with feminine traits and the sperm with masculine traits, scientists make these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When given the task of interviewing a person I find to be successful, it didn t take long before my thoughts turned toward her. Besides being a judge on The Food Network Challenge , she holds the title of Master Sugar Artist, founded the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show, and assisted in introducing fondant and gum paste to the United States. Traditional tribal tattooing was (and is) done for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons for tribal tattoos include rites of passage, social status, or even simple family identification. Some tribes also believe tattoos hold magical or spiritual significance. Of course, there are also instances where tribe members get tattooed simply for aesthetic reasons. One appealing aspect is the bold nature of the images. Tribal tattoos are almost always done in black, often with thick, interweaving lines that show up very strongly against the skin. Also, because of the bold, solid black nature of the images, tribal tattoos are less likely to fade or blur, giving them greater longevity. Both the tattoo artist and the receiver of the artwork have a lot of artistic freedom with tribal type tattoos, as much or most of the modern types of this artwork has little to do with any specific actual tribe. Almost any kind of image can be turned into a tribal design, so you see many varieties of this kind of artwork. If you don t want to create your design or do not have one in mind already, professional tattoo artists will nearly always have books of flash designs for you to pick from. • 8. Review Of Dennett s Quining Qualia Paper 1 Question 3: Dennett s Quining Qualia Daniel Dennett looks to quine qualia, or completely disprove their existence, in Quining Qualia. He is successful in creating a theoretical framework by which many intuitive arguments for qualia can be struck down. Because of his success, an argument from introspection is difficult to make; Dennett seems to successfully refute many of the arguments given by intuition or folk psychology. I will adopt Eugene Park s criticism in critiquing Dennett, showing that an argument from introspection can provide some insight into how qualia might exist. Park argues that relying on memory comparison is incomplete, and unfairly eliminates direct apprehensibility. Introduction In Quining Qualia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes qualia inherently private. The fourth and last quality is direct apprehensibility to consciousness. This describes the fact that we know everything about our own qualia, and we can easily access all of its properties. Dennett explains that because qualia are properties of my experiences, they therefore must be accessible to one s conscious states (229). The coffee test case: Intuition pump 7 Chase and Sanborn Dennett uses the seventh intuition pump to explore the relationship between qualia and reactive attitudes to those qualia. The situation involves two coffee tasters who work for Maxwell House, ensuring that each batch is of consistent quality. After six years of tastings, both Chase and Sanborn declare that they used to like the tasteof the coffee, but that this is no longer the case. Chase says that he thinks that the coffee tastes the same as it did six years ago, but that he has become a more sophisticated coffee drinker and his more unfavorable reaction (or reactive attitude) towards the coffee has decreased his enjoyment of it. Sanborn, however, does not like the coffee because he says his taste buds have changed, and now the coffee tastes worse than before. Sanborn claims that his taste qualia have changed, not his reactive attitude towards the coffee. It is difficult, however, to discern whether Chase and Sanborn are actually correct in ... An individual detailed analysis on the style, editing techniques Mise en scene and cinematography in the film Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind . Michael Gondry s Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) is not your typical Hollywood rom com. Its cinematic style is very original and by far out of the ordinary for its genre. The use of techniques and the way the film is produced is the reason why it is so memorable. There are plenty of examples of continuity editing in Eternal sunshine, both temporal and spatial are used. Discontinuity is used throughout the memory erasing scenes with the deliberate use of ellipsis as Joel relives his memories in flashbacks. Some of the shots from Joel s memories are put together in a montage edit; this is another example of discontinuity editing. There are multiple uses of crosscutting in the film, which is when there are a series of shots that keep cutting back and forth from one shot to another shot, this occurs in a lot of the flashback scenes. Also there are several jump cuts, which brakes the continuity edit as in order to achieve a smooth and non noticeable cut from one shot to another the camera must move 30 degrees or more to attain the continuity in the movement of shots. But a jump cut is deliberately shot without using the 30 degree rule. Therefore when you put the shots together they make a jump affect and it brakes up the continuity of the edit. In this case, Gondry intentionally directed the crosscutting and jump cuts in order to express Joel s reactions to the procedure. At the beginning of the film the editing picks up a rhythm and runs smoothly, giving a perfect example of continuity editing, but as the film goes on it begins to switch between continuity and discontinuity as the edit balances ... Neruda decided to engage the reader by acknowledging the reader s need for a typically beautiful poem. • 28. Beowulf And The Epic s Christian Identity Beowulf and the Epic s Christian Identity Composed in early eighth century by an unknown author the epic poem Beowulf, follows the exploits of the protagonist of the same name. Originally composed orally by a tribe s scop, the epic of Beowulf delivers insight on the lives and adventures of characters that lived in the sixth century. Although, the tale of Beowulf was formulated during post Roman collapse by presumably pagan people; written around seven hundred A.D., it is probable that a Christian monk transcribed the grand narrative implanting Christian motifs and ideals into pagan Scandinavian culture. Therefore, the result of this concoction is a blended storyline infused with religious imagery and allusion along with traditional Nordic beliefs of war and honor. The tale, and arguably, the tragedy of Beowulf illustrate the conflict between the Pagan elements and Christian tenets, as aspects of both are present in the epic. The underlying Christian and Pagan values in Beowulf illustrate the iniquity of mankind and its eventual downfall through allusion to god, symbolism, and vices and virtues of warrior man. Firstly, Hrothgar s monologue foreshadows the climax and tragedy of man; moreover, Hrothgar s speech illuminates the end of both warrior and king. For example, after the battle in which Grendel is defeated, Hrothgar say, First and foremost, let the Almighty father be thanked for this sight. I suffered a long harrowing by Grendel. If we do not take what he says into account, loved ones may be taken from us and have to experience what he once did as a soldier. Or worse, our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer. He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently. Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story and the overall tone of the book. In a village, at the time of a rebel attack, Beah sees a mother carrying her baby on her back. The baby is covered in blood, and its mother is covered in her baby s blood. Soy Protein As scientists we find it particularly vexing that there is so much information being peddled by marketing companies regarding soy protein being the best source of protein for women. This is due to the fact that soy is a BIG business in the US. And soy manufacturers actually have lobbyists on the payroll helping to create the big lie. There is no other way to state the facts other than to say that calling soy the best, most complete protein for women is totally inaccurate as it is missing a highly critical amino acid, methionine. Facts are facts and there is no way to dispute this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Cold Equation By Tom Godwin Summary Fall 2017 Dialogue Assignment The Cold Equations is a short story written by Tom Godwin. Barton is a character on a different planet and is an EDS pilot. EDS are used for emergencies and other calls that are urgent. In Barton s case he is flying towards Wooden, which is a planet, where six men have been stranded, struck with a fever that could kill them without the right serum, which they did have but with their luck, it was destroyed by a tornado. Barton s mission is to fly back to earth, get the serum and then fly to Wooden. The only problem with the EDS is that it is very small and stores just enough fuel to get to the destination and back. Any other mass weight which was not calculated for could crash the plane. While Barton was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Me: He is right, there was a big sign that said to stay out. Marilyn should have kept to herself, or at least ask if she could go on to see her brother. Marilyn s Mom: I don t care what the sign says! There should have been a better warning, my poor girl just wanted to see her brother who she hasn t seen in 10 years. Barton should have been more careful and checked EVERYWHERE to make sure that no one was on the ship. Jan Narveson: It was right front of her eyes, she should have realized that this was not a place for her to be in, no matter what the situation is. If she wanted to see her brother she should have just waited to see him. Marilyn s Mom: Marilyn obviously did not know the consequences, it is much different on earth! Nothing is this harsh and so very cruel. I know my little girl and she would not go in there if she knew that she was going to die. Well, think about this, what if the sign had been changed and said: COME ON IN, WE WILL TAKE YOU TO YOUR DESTINATION. Would you have killed her then? It would be all your fault if she had walked in if the sign were to say that. Me: Well that would make her 100% innocent, but if she is all sweet and innocent we would hope that she would know that the right thing to do would be to sacrifice herself, to save Barton and the 6 other men. Jan Narveson: That s right, it s either Marilyn stays alive for a few more hours and they all die, or just Marilyn dies and the others are saved. She should know what ... • 49. The Gaze In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four Empowerment and disempowerment using the gaze is manifested as one of the fundamental themes in George Orwell s novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). Written in 1944, Nineteen Eighty Four is a novel which portrays the experiences of Winston Smith, the protagonist and other significant characters such as Julia who are bound to live within a totalitarian regime in which the powerful forces are manipulation and fear. The work of literature demonstrates the visionary concept of how totalitarian regimes may evolve if they were permitted to do so. The power of the gaze is investigated in Nineteen Eighty Fourto assess how the protagonists in the book are given power and also disempowered by the supervising gaze, the desiring gaze and the egalitarian gaze. • 50. Right Of Death Research Paper Today one of the greatest atrocities is a silent one. I am not discussing human rights violations. I am not discussing torture and unjust imprisonment. I am not discussing the rights of speech, press, and freedom of religion, or rather lack thereof in many countries today. I am discussing another right: the Right of Death. All previously mentioned rights have been discussed widely now for over three centuries, yet the Right of Death has only now been discussed sparingly for three decades. And the lack of the Right of Death leads to more suffering than any of the previous rights mentioned. Even in today s most just and free countries, we often find this right missing. What is the Right of Death might you ask? It is simply the right to have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They feel like doctors must perform Medical Assisted on any eligible patient, regardless of what that doctor s beliefs about the matter are. To those who have good common sense, this belief seems almost entirely irrationally. Yet as this state of mind commonly arises in the populace, I will briefly respond to it. Let us begin by discussing this topic in legal terms, by once again going back to the American Declaration of Independence. As in the previous case, law and government are entirely matters of interpretation and so the liberty and life previously mentioned mean that a doctor or a member of a medical staff is at liberty to refuse to take the life of another person for reasons which are not relating to discrimination. In fact, A majority of doctors approve of the practice of physician assisted suicide, but most say they would not perform it themselves according to a University of Michigan study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. (Assisted) The most probable reason for this, is that these doctors believe that Medical Assisted Suicide interferes with the practices of their own religious beliefs. This is quite frequent, as according to deathwithdignity.org, more than twenty widespread religions, or sects of religions, are commonly opposed to Medical Assisted Suicide. Among these are Anglicans, Baptists, Buddhists, Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. I Am A Professional Athlete I was sixteen years old when I was asked the question every High School student has to eventually answer. Where do you think you ll be ten years from now? My answer was always, Playing professional soccer in Europe. It seems like a big clichГ© when a high school student responds with wanting to be a professional athlete. But it was my passion, I worked very hard at it and I was good at it. So it only made sense to go with my heart. I knew to be a professional soccer player was what I wanted and I never hesitated to say it. Until I was asked, Well, what if that doesn t work out. Then what will you do? Now, I know it wasn t wrong for my teacher to ask that question but it did change the way I thought about my life and my future. I ll admit I went to a Technical High School, so it wasn t the best school to get scouted out of for any sport, no matter how great my soccer career was at that school. Now I am Eighteen years old and graduating high school and my next stop is vacation in Portugal for a month. This may have been a vacation for my Dad but for me it was a stepping stone to my future, as I was getting ready to have try outs with one of the biggest Soccer teams in Portugal. At least that s what I was told was going to happen. After everything was said and done, my try outs were with a third division team and not a top team in the country. This meant I don t get paid. As a person who doesn t speak the language and would have to provide a living for myself, made this an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
