The Role Of Men And Women In The 19th Century
Joslyn (2011) stated, Throughout history teachers are expected to teach students in a safe and
nurturing environment. From the beginning of teacher contracts, expectations focused on schoolhouse
duties to how a teacher should look, dress, and behave. As time has progressed, teacher expectations
have moved in the direction of child safety and educating teachers and administrators in areas of
sexual misconduct (p. 31). As the focus of this study, the female teacher was significant in the
development of education in American history. In the 1700 s and 1800 s era, the roles of men and
women were gender specific; however, the role of the woman learned from the traditions established
by her mother such as, maintaining the household, providing spiritual and education guidance to her
family, and adhering to the directions of her husband. Most teachers during the Colonial era through
the 19th century were young white men. However, during the summer months, young white females
taught small children the alphabet who lived in their communities. During the winter session, men
were recruited to schoolmasters to teach all the students in the community. The leaders of the
community believed women did not have the physical stature, the socialization or authority which
were essential to leading a productive school. The male dominated pedagogy was atypical during the
Colonial era. The belief of the male dominated pedagogy is children are viewed as

My Personal Theory Of Counseling
My Personal Theory of Counseling I believe counseling is a collaborative partnership between client
and counselor. Furthermore, this collaborative partnership is built from trust and acceptance of both
client and counselor. I hope in conjunction with clients to understand the issues and concerns so to
help them tap into their wisdom, creativity, and strengths to meet their current challenges. I believe in
a comprehensive perspective through which clients can better comprehend themselves in the
framework that our thinking about events can lead to emotional and behavioral upset. Moreover,
counselors are to provide a safe environment for clients to explore their challenges and identify ways
to move differently in overcoming these challenges. Through my work in counseling, I will aspire to
be respectful of and sensitive to my client s developmental needs and therapeutic goals. It is
imperative for counselors to recognize that the counseling process can be intimidating for many

attempt to live and reach contentment. Conversely, REBT theory maintains that clients are inclined to
embrace irrational beliefs and behaviors that prevent them from achieving their goals and purposes
(Weinrach, 1996). REBT theory accepts that clients contrast rational desires with wishes, preferences,
and wants. Additionally, the existence of extreme philosophies make the difference between healthy
negative emotions and unhealthy negative emotions (Weinrach, 1995). REBT theory asserts that
clients have the ability to change their beliefs and philosophies profoundly and thus can change

The Managerial Functions Of Management
An organisation needs managers to be able to accomplish its goals. They contribute to organisational
value, its financial performance, and productivity by the efficiency and effectiveness of managerial
tasks (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, Coulter, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to justify why we need
managers in the organisation and how they become so influential to its performance and the employee
s job satisfaction through their functions, roles and skills. Basically, managers are classified to
hierarchical levels, so that they perform differently by functions, managerial roles and skills they need
to have. This essay will start by explaining why managers are important in the organisation, and
afterwards briefly discussing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, globalisation also affects the manager s awareness due to organisational value in
comparison with cross national business partners (Gentry Sparks, 2012). Likewise, the importance of
managers consists of their functions, roles and skills, which they need to perform efficiently. In 1949,
Fayol (as cited in Lamond, 2003) identified a theory through surveys that there are five functions of
managers, which are planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling. Planning is a
process which managers are necessarily good at intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as it is
related to handle and encourage people with all the obligations required to be able to make
preparations and aim for optimum outcomes rather than minimum exposure. It is basically the
function of all level of managers, but dominated by top managers because they make long term plans
instead of short term plans, which are made by middle and first level managers. Afterwards,
organising means building up the undertaking material and human organisation. This includes having
an adequate knowledge to find essential work force and put each where he/she can do the most
effective duties. So, this is the function of top managers because they are the one who have authorities
to do that. The next function is to command. Commanding is suggested as an initiation to set
organized employees who are fully motivated and work together in a

Knowing that I am here, they wonder if the poor soul admitted into my arena shall suffer my wrath!
Oh yes the know that I am here, for it is them who chose this life for me, made me into the monster I

Ted Lavender Characteristics
If you were to ask any individual what their idea of a hero is, they ll most likely give you a perfect
description of superman, but that s the fictional visual that s been placed into the minds of the general
public. What is a true hero? A true hero is selfless, brave, and determined; someone like Ted Lavender.
Lavender was highly respected, he was as brave as he could be without needing recognition, and he
took a bullet to the head. He will never be stripped of his humble and heroic reputation.
A man who puts his life on the line; a man who does what he feels he must do. It s evident that no man
wants to go into war, anyone could run from it like Tim O brien when he was drafted into the Vietnam
War, but Lavender faced a terrifying scenario head on. A hero is selfless, brave, and determined. The
act of fighting in the war automatically makes a hero all of the above; wartime hero s put their life on
the line, they commit to their duties and they never know whether they ll come out of it alive. These
hero s demonstrate many of the characteristics of a hero and they do so with dignity. A hero impacts
all aspects of someone s life and leaves a positive impression, but there s no limit to the amount of
characteristics that could be used to define a hero. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

took every opportunity to show such heroic acts. It takes bravery to surrender your life and devote it to

thank you nor recognition. One bullet to the head and Lavender s life had come to a sudden end, but
that doesn t make him a weak link nor a dud, but only makes him more of a hero. Not only was he

December 11, 2014 Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells and the
maintenance of Neural crest stem cell multipotency
Stem cells are unspecialized cells, which have the potential to develop into several different cell types
muscle cells, brain cells, skin cells, or red blood cells during early development. Stem cells
continuously divide in order to replace other cells. As stem cells divide, they have the potential to
develop into a specialized cell or remain a stem cell. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) play an
essential role in tissue regeneration, and can circumvent immune system concerns. There are a variety
of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells.
However, the main focus of this paper will be the usage of induced pluripotent stem cells.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells Induced pluripotent stem cells are
adult cells that are genetically altered in order to match embryonic stem cells. In order to achieve this
embryonic stem cell like nature, induced pluripotent stem cells are impelled to express genes and
factors required to maintain the properties of embryonic stem cells. The main iPSC discussed in this
paper will be derived neural crest stem cells (NCSCs). Derived neural crest stem cells are present in
both the embryonic neural crest and the

How Surface Area Affects the Buoyancy of Wood Essay example
Introduction: The upward force on an object that is in water that allows it to float is called buoyancy.
The buoyant force is always equal to the weight of the water displaced by the object in the water. This
force was discovered by Archimedes, who was in his bathtub when he wondered why objects seemed
lighter when he held them under the water. He found out that if an object is lighter than the weight of
the water it displaces, it will float, but if it is heavier, it will sink. The force of buoyancy is important
in many different areas, and especially in the making of ships. The surface area that is touching the
water of the ship is very large, due to the shape of the hull, and that, beside the density of the ship, is
what keeps the ship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, the piece of wood with the surface area of 153cm² is the most buoyant, with a buoyancy of
0.606, because it has the most area to receive upward force upon.
Problems and Improvements:
A difficulty I encountered during this experiment was taking the measurements of newtons in the
water. This was because it was hard to find the right place to put the spring balance. It could not be
holding the piece of wood up completely, but it couldn t be not supporting it at all both of these things
would have created inaccurate results. However, I overcame this by spending time getting this balance
right for each measurement, so I could collect the most accurate results as possible. There could still
be minor inaccuracies in these results because of this problem; however a trend is still easily
recognised in the results, so minor inaccuracies are only a small problem. This experiment could be
improved by measuring the density of each of the pieces of wood as well as the surface area. Density,
as well as surface area, also affects buoyancy, so the most accurate results would be gained by
integrating density as a factor of this experiment.
Conclusion:
The results of this experiment did support my hypothesis, and confirm that for a constant mass, the
larger the surface area of the piece of wood, the more buoyant it is.

Driesch s Therapeutic Analysis
There is a typical pattern to embryological development: the egg is fertilized, cleaves, and after many
such cleavetures the blastula develops. A part of the blastula is pulled inside, and the gastrula
originates. The process continues until a typical organism develops, each cell becoming whatever it is
supposed to become (its prospective value). Thus is the normal development. But truly astonishing
things arise when we alter the typical process. Experiments done on embryos have shown that if we
destroy various parts of the developing embryo, normal embryos still develop (though they are
smaller). Cells become something different than they would usually become in order to create a
typical organism. To this subsistence Driesch gives the name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Driesch illustrates this well with his reductio ad absurdum proofs for entelechy. His first refutation is
the purely chemical theory of morphogenesis. This is the theory that morphogenesis is just a product
of various chemical reactions in cells. The fundamental problem is twofold: in regeneration chemicals
would have to be lost and regained without any outside goal governing the change and that there aren t
an abundance of chemicals correlating to the various types of differentiation, just a few rearranged in
various ways. Thus, biology must at least go beyond simple chemistry. His next refutation is that of a
mechanical view of biology. This is the idea that morphogenesis occurs due to a structure in cells
which is set off by various interactions between the cells. Driesch s problem with this is that every cell
would then have to contain the machine, which seems absurd, and if the embryo was just a machine it
would perform the exact same way as normal embryos when we cut of various parts. These two
refutations lead to entelechy, a patently philosophical idea. The refutations also require biology to
inquire more deeply than chemistry and other natural sciences, which seems only to lead to
philosophy. Philosophy then is part of science. We deduce some philosophical claims from our
observations of natural phenomena that allow us to continue forth with our investigations and guide
our work. We can see this in the layout of Driesch s book itself. He states, All our biology will not be
for its own sake, but for the sake of philosophy (72). This statement doesn t seem to be contained only
to his book. Instead, his book seems to be a paradigm for future science, where we utilize philosophy
and allow ourselves to not reduce every natural phenomena to chemistry and physics. This is what
Driesch himself has done: he has used science, performing

The Devistating Story of the London Cholera Epidemic...
Steven Johnson s intriguing yet stimulating historical story, The Ghost Map, recaptures the London
cholera epidemic of 1854. He concludes an accurate and engaging story of this outbreak in the history
of epidemiology. Johnson who is known for his blunt and honest opinions about intersection of
science and technology writes a wonderful narrative attacking the flawed proposals of the scientific
community (Pogrebin, 2006).
Ghost Map demonstrates the tragic events that caused devastating destruction to this community due
to this mysterious disease called cholera. Cholera is caused by a bacteria called Vibrio Cholerae
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). During the London cholera epidemic, family after
family became ill (Johnson, 2006). People developed nausea and vomiting (Johnson, 2006). Many
also had abdominal cramps and diarrhea (Johnson, 2006). Almost all who were infected were
completely dehydrated (Johnson, 2006). The disease spread fast and was even known to kill (Johnson,
2006). Most of the time, the disease would kill within 12 hours of contact (Johnson, 2006). Johnson
explains that medical authorities were able to identify the disease as cholera because of outbreaks in
Britain that had occurred in the 1830 s and 1840 s (Johnson, 2006).
Johnson mirrors the journey of John Snow, a doctor who became familiar with cholera during his
apprenticeship (Johnson, 2006). John Snow was The Investigator (Johnson, 2006). The book was

Community Oriented Policing Essay
Community oriented policing is a policing method in which officers engage with the members in area
they are assigned to patrol. Foot patrol is an essential component of community oriented policing
which allows for officers to overhear concerns or plans (Wetzel, 2012). Foot patrol also allows an
intimate approach with the neighborhood. This intimate interaction allows for a connection to be
formed which allows for intelligence gathering (Wetzel, 2012). With this increased connection with
the community, officers are more likely to learn about new member in the community who are
different. Community Oriented Policing is an effective tool readily available to combat terrorism.
Community oriented policing is effective ,but its implementation has been reduced. Community
oriented policing funds were reduced because of September 11, 2001. The events of September 11 and
the subsequent concern for national security have justifiably shifted the priorities of policing (Murray,
2005, p247). The war on terror would shift away from community oriented policing and would

wild animals. He prepared for his kind of work, schooling, learning how to read animals, what they
tend to do when aggravated. Yes, he went after dangerous animals but he knew what he was doing,
just like Petit. It was a dangerous thing to be doing, but he was prepared to do so. So no, Philippe Petit
isn t crazy, just well managed, well trained, and well prepared for what he has done. Petit passed an
evaluation to test if there was something wrong with him. Also, because what he does is dangerous
doesn t mean he isn t right in the head. Just look at Steve Irwin and think twice before judging. He

Is It Better To Grow Up In A Small Town Essay
Some believe it is better to grow up in a big city. However it is more beneficial to grow up in a small
town. Rural communities have a lot to offer. It offers numerous benefits to living in a bigger
community. For example, they have several job opportunities offered to the residents. There is less
conflict between each other because half of the people don t even know eachother. Therefore,
everyone is minding their business and keeping to themselves. The bigger the community you live in
the more money the city probably makes, for example, they offer a better education and provide more
options as what a student wants to pursue in after graduating high school. In my opinion there are
more sights to see when there are more places to experience and explore, therefore stating why a big
city is better to live in. In a more populated area, it expands the opportunities for jobs in the
community when there are more options to choose from. It s difficult to live in a populated area, but it
benefits almost everyone around you trying to make a living as well as you are. Resulting in a huge
reason why families move to bigger towns for job offers or opportunities. As everyone knows
businesses thrive better in cities, because they have more people needing the opportunity to work for
them. If the staff increases, the business will grow as well. Businesses provide jobs for numerous
people to help the company and provide for the employees to receive what they need in daily living.

The Art of Digital Animation
Norman McLaren said, Animation is not the art of drawings that move but the art of movements that
are drawn. To be a digital animator, independence and social skills are needed. Strong design skills
and computer savvy will be key. (Clark 185) To be successful or to even get a job the animator needs a
proper foundation. Having social skills, years of experience, and even a degree (not often) are needed
to do so. The long hours can be fun or enjoyable in the beginning seeing as the animator is doing what
they love but eventually, they will be exhausted and with deadlines they can screw their self over
without being prepared. Being educated in the field is highly suggested, to understanding of color,
form, shape, dynamics, and so on is needed. However, the only way the animator can truly learn is
through experience, actual practice. Some people look to be apprentices to other animator and learn
through being in that type of environment. Being a digital animator has it s pros, cons, is full of
history, and has a simple method of getting into.
Digital animation is a vital piece in the entertainment industry today. Talented artists from all over get
into the field to create amazing works of art. An animator produces multiple images that are referred
to as frames. These frames when compiled in sequence create a moving picture known as animation.
They draw by hand and use computers to create the large series of pictures that, when transferred to

Comparing Newcomb s Encoding And Decoding
As a polysemic text, television has the power to inspire a range of interpretations according to the
denotation or encoding of the producers and the connotation or decoding of the televisual consumer.
As first described by Stuart Hall in Encoding/Decoding, and then by Horace Newcomb and Paul
Hirsch in Television as a Cultural Forum there exist three basic categories of potential readings of a
singular text within the broad range of potential interpretations: dominant or preferred, negotiated, and
oppositional, each of which depends on the ideological, political, and social position of the interpreter,
as well as their experiences, making them, according to Newcomb and Hirsch cultural interpreters, or
cultural bricoleur. As a parody, a genre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fish Reader Response Criticism
Fish s Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of
texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to
be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one interpretive community or another. The first idea
may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of
reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the
knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of
Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the
New Critics. But as we will see, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the fragment ends with whose soul is lightning which refers not to the red cloud, but to the flesh itself.
In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a psychological multiplier:
the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the
immediately preceding image. Now the reader possesses a clear mental picture of the passionate flesh,
but the strange syntax (both in French and English) leaves him uncertain about what exactly the text
has said: is lightning the soul of the flesh? Is the soul the lightning emitted by the flesh? This is an
important point is the soul passion? Or is passion simply one of several manifestations of the soul?
Yourcenar has deliberately shrouded this discussion in complex syntax because the distinction itself
confounds us. If you are lost as to what exactly the text says right now, Yourcenar has achieved her
aim. Now take a look at Grace Frick s artful translation of the same text:
The flesh itself, that amazing instrument of muscles, blood, and skin, that

Marriott Case
Finding Marriott s WACC To calculate the WACC we need to identify the different factors included in
the WACC method, to be able to measure the opportunity cost for investments. First we need to
identify the debt, equity and the firm value, which is equity plus debt. Then we identify the debt cost
(rD), which is a pre tax cost, and then we need to identify the cost of equity (rE). As we can observe in
table A, the debt percentage in capital is 60 %, which implies that the equity is 40 %. By dividing the
income taxes by the company s income before taxes, we find that t = 175,9 / 398,9 = 0,44 To find the

government rates to find the risk free rate (table B), which is 8,95%, and according to table A, the
spread for such an investment is 1,10%. rD for lodging division = 8,95% + 1,10% = 10,05%. We think
that the financing of the restaurant division is a bit different. Since we re told that Marriott in a higher
degree uses more short term debt to finance this division, we use only 10 year interest rates, which,
according to table B is 8,72%. The restaurant division has a significantly higher spread, which is
1,80%. rD for restaurant division = 8,72% + 1,80% = 10,52%. These are only the fixed part of the cost
of debt. For the floating part of the debt we use one year bonds. This means that the floating part of
the cost of debt is for the lodging division 6,90% + 1,10% = 8,00%, and for the restaurant division it s
6,90% + 1,80% = 8,70%, due to the different spreads. The lodging division has 50% fixed debt rate
and 50 % floating rate, whilst the restaurant division has 25% floating rate and 75% fixed rate. These
numbers gives the following calculation for the different costs of debt: Lodging cost of debt: 50% *
8,00% + 50% * 10,05% = 9,025% Restaurant cost of debt: 75% * 8,70% + 25% * 10,52% = 10,065%
These different divisions need a different cost of debt because of the fact that assets in the restaurant
and contracting services have shorter useful lives. Marriott also

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to
portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of
the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple
butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When
looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the
supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is
an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to
understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was
like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The
latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people
knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had
lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life.
Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and
downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook
beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another

three days. He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically
dad what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her
hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although
some people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Romantic and comes closer to understanding

Pros Of Eugenics
As a trained nurse in the slums and tenements of New York I had been brought face to face with
conditions that made the so called sacredness of motherhood a term of unspeakable irony. Pregnant
women drunken husbands hungry children, children born to a heritage of disease, filth, crime this was
the order of that day. As one pregnancy followed another, a family sank deeper into the mire. And
always denied contraceptive knowledge by their doctors, these women were driven to other means. On
Saturday evenings, they lined up before the office of a cheap abortionist, each waiting her turn. You
would tell us nothing, they seemed to reproach me (I knew nothing to tell them), and here we are. All
too often wrecked health and death followed. Weighed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Birth control was seen as preventing events such as abortion and the cycle of poverty if used
responsibility. It gave power back to women. Conversely, the eugenics movement is tainted with the
distrust of women. A distrust that women would be unable to be responsible over their bodies and the
need for strict control over women through legislation such as forced sterilization. While eugenicists
may have supported birth control, they did not view it as an effective enough practice to prevent the
birth of unfit children into American society. Eugenics wanted a long term solution to the problem of

Armenian Genocide Causes
What caused the Armenian Genocide? There were many reasons that could be tied to why the
Armenian Genocide happened, but there is no reason bigger than the fact that the Turkish Government
was unsatisfied with the religious state of the Armenians. The Armenians had established their
national religion as Christianity unlike Turkey who was mostly Muslim. The main group that enforced
this was called the Young Turks. The Young Turks were a group that had taken control of Turkey.

Armenian citizens was a regular occurrence and Armenians were often scapegoated for the Ottoman

Christians were not given as many rights as Muslims in the Ottoman Empire, but they still succeeded
in the Ottoman Empire. The Young Turks also put together killing squads called Special Organizations
These killing squads were put in place to carry out the liquidation of Christian elements. Christian
Armenian children were also kidnapped and converted to Islam. After the children were converted to
Islam, they were given to Turkish families. Muslim families moved into the homes of deported

Cons Of Flat Tax
A flat tax is known as a tax system that refers to taxes on an household income. It taxes at an uniform
rate, the income level doesn t not play a significant role in it. The United States came up with a system
where high income earners pay taxes at a higher rate than low income earners.
The reason why the flat tax remains a favored idea is because it eliminates double taxation. It discards
the section of the tax code that is biased against the formation of the capital. It also abolishes capital
gains, double taxation of savings and dividends, and death tax. Individuals along with their families
are not enforced to report business related incomes. When dealing with the tax system, its unnecessary
to pay other business tax at the individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Low income individuals and families must spend money on the same necessities required by higher
income people. The poorer taxpayers will have a limited amount of money left over to pay taxes even
though its at the same rate of the individuals earning higher income amounts. Implementing a flat tax
system may dismantle the IRS. Many Individuals have a perspective of the IRS that is in a negative
manner. They feel as if the IRS is imposing and intimidating. Although this establishment employs
numerous individuals who were qualified to work in the tax industry, the IRS employees have a higher
risk of losing their jobs under a flat tax system. Many individuals believe that a flat tax system
benefits the rich more than the middle class. They also believe it reduces the high income individuals
taxes. If the rich paid less, many individuals believe that the government would. If the rich paid less
tax, many believe that the government would surrender a serious amount of revenue. A uniform tax
rate treats individuals and corporations adequately, but it defeats a substitute revenue source, the
additional money made by taxing high income earners at a higher rate for the government. The
government does in fact rely heavily on revenue generated from income

The Law, Morality And Fear Or Threat By Herbert Lionel...
Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart, was a British Legal Philosopher and worked for University of Oxford
as Professor of Jurisprudence. Prof. Hart has written several books and few of his most important
writings are, Causation of Law 1959, Concept of Law 1961, Law liberty and Morality 1963, Of Laws
in General 1970, and Essays on Bentham 1982. This article focuses on one of his highly appreciated
work, Concept of Law 1961. The book analyses on the law, morality and fear or threat through which
the author is attempting to classify the question as to whether the law can be conceptualized as the
forceful orders or the moral commands. Prof. Hart is of the opinion that all laws need not be classified
as coercive or moral commands, there need not be any logical connection between the Laws, and
morality or between the laws and coercion. He is of the opinion that by classifying all laws as either
moral commands or coercive orders will be misleading and mischaracterizing the purpose and
function for which the law was originally created. Different laws have different applicability as it is
drawn from several sources and there exists a purpose for which a law will be created. Laws are made
to curtail the actions of man, and to prohibit him from various kinds of actions. These are called duties
which a person has to do as he is bound by the law to do it. In case of breach of this duty, the law
imposes a punishment which a person has to undergo to keep an order in the society. The

Competitive Advantage Through Value Chain And Vertical...
We are living in a world, where technology keeps changing on day to day basis. In this ever changing
world of technology, the question is how are some companies doing better than the others and what
are they doing to maintain competitive advantage? Rise of technology has given birth to competition
by giving companies new ways to perform at higher levels and this has also led to the ways companies
are producing their products and services. Technology has affected several sections of an organization
by having an impact on business communications, company s HR practices, and organizational
changes. Therefore, in order to gain and maintain competitive advantage, a company must do one of
the two; either produce goods/services at a lower cost or produce innovative products in a way that
leads to differentiation and a premium price.
Section 1: Competitive Advantage through Value Chain and Vertical Integration
Companies are using value chain approach to better understand which key areas will give them the
greatest edge over its competitors. They are focusing on each division, distribution centers, pricing,
product innovation, selling techniques, and value chain formations.
Value chain is an important notion that highlights the role of information technology in the operations
of a company. A Value Chain is the whole series of activities that create and build value at every step.

In many scenarios it is our hope that adults use the knowledge they have acquired throughout their life

When making the comment non parental it simply means an adult who is not the parent figure at home
in the life of the child. A non parental adult when participating in the lives of other children typically
is an adult who wants to have a significant positive impact in or in the life of a child. When adults who
are not the parental figure of a child wishes to interact with children it is important to know their

Through my work in counseling, I will aspire to be respectful of and sensitive to my client s developmental needs and therapeutic goals. It is imperative for counselors to recognize that the counseling process can be intimidating for many clients. I will draw from a variety of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... al., 2001). They contribute to organisational value, its financial performance, and productivity by the efficiency and effectiveness of managerial tasks (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, Coulter, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to justify why we need managers in the organisation and how they become so influential to its performance and the employee s job satisfaction through their functions, roles and skills. However, globalisation also affects the manager s awareness due to organisational value in comparison with cross national business partners (Gentry Sparks, 2012). Likewise, the importance of managers consists of their functions, roles and skills, which they need to perform efficiently. In 1949, Fayol (as cited in Lamond, 2003) identified a theory through surveys that there are five functions of managers, which are planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling. Planning is a process which managers are necessarily good at intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as it is related to handle and encourage people with all the obligations required to be able to make preparations and aim for optimum outcomes rather than minimum exposure. It is basically the function of all level of managers, but dominated by top managers because they make long term plans instead of short term plans, which are made by middle and first level managers. Afterwards, organising means building up the undertaking material and human organisation. This includes having an adequate knowledge to find essential work force and put each where he/she can do the most effective duties. So, this is the function of top managers because they are the one who have authorities to do that. The next function is to command. Commanding is suggested as an initiation to set organized employees who are fully motivated and work together in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ted Lavender Characteristics If you were to ask any individual what their idea of a hero is, they ll most likely give you a perfect description of superman, but that s the fictional visual that s been placed into the minds of the general public. What is a true hero? A true hero is selfless, brave, and determined; someone like Ted Lavender. Lavender was highly respected, he was as brave as he could be without needing recognition, and he took a bullet to the head. He will never be stripped of his humble and heroic reputation. A man who puts his life on the line; a man who does what he feels he must do. It s evident that no man wants to go into war, anyone could run from it like Tim O brien when he was drafted into the Vietnam War, but Lavender faced a terrifying scenario head on. A hero is selfless, brave, and determined. The act of fighting in the war automatically makes a hero all of the above; wartime hero s put their life on the line, they commit to their duties and they never know whether they ll come out of it alive. These hero s demonstrate many of the characteristics of a hero and they do so with dignity. Alyssa Gbewonyo Biology 441 Section 16138 December 11, 2014 Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells and the maintenance of Neural crest stem cell multipotency Stem cells are unspecialized cells, which have the potential to develop into several different cell types muscle cells, brain cells, skin cells, or red blood cells during early development. Stem cells continuously divide in order to replace other cells. As stem cells divide, they have the potential to develop into a specialized cell or remain a stem cell. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) play an essential role in tissue regeneration, and can circumvent immune system concerns. There are a variety of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells. However, the main focus of this paper will be the usage of induced pluripotent stem cells. Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells Induced pluripotent stem cells are adult cells that are genetically altered in order to match embryonic stem cells. In order to achieve this embryonic stem cell like nature, induced pluripotent stem cells are impelled to express genes and factors required to maintain the properties of embryonic stem cells. • 11. How Surface Area Affects the Buoyancy of Wood Essay example Introduction: The upward force on an object that is in water that allows it to float is called buoyancy. The buoyant force is always equal to the weight of the water displaced by the object in the water. This force was discovered by Archimedes, who was in his bathtub when he wondered why objects seemed lighter when he held them under the water. He found out that if an object is lighter than the weight of the water it displaces, it will float, but if it is heavier, it will sink. The force of buoyancy is important in many different areas, and especially in the making of ships. The surface area that is touching the water of the ship is very large, due to the shape of the hull, and that, beside the density of the ship, is what keeps the ship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, the piece of wood with the surface area of 153cm² is the most buoyant, with a buoyancy of 0.606, because it has the most area to receive upward force upon. Problems and Improvements: A difficulty I encountered during this experiment was taking the measurements of newtons in the water. This was because it was hard to find the right place to put the spring balance. It could not be holding the piece of wood up completely, but it couldn t be not supporting it at all both of these things would have created inaccurate results. However, I overcame this by spending time getting this balance right for each measurement, so I could collect the most accurate results as possible. There could still be minor inaccuracies in these results because of this problem; however a trend is still easily recognised in the results, so minor inaccuracies are only a small problem. This experiment could be improved by measuring the density of each of the pieces of wood as well as the surface area. Density, as well as surface area, also affects buoyancy, so the most accurate results would be gained by integrating density as a factor of this experiment. Conclusion: The results of this experiment did support my hypothesis, and confirm that for a constant mass, the larger the surface area of the piece of wood, the more buoyant it is. Bibliography: ... • 12. Driesch s Therapeutic Analysis There is a typical pattern to embryological development: the egg is fertilized, cleaves, and after many such cleavetures the blastula develops. A part of the blastula is pulled inside, and the gastrula originates. The process continues until a typical organism develops, each cell becoming whatever it is supposed to become (its prospective value). Thus is the normal development. But truly astonishing things arise when we alter the typical process. Experiments done on embryos have shown that if we destroy various parts of the developing embryo, normal embryos still develop (though they are smaller). Cells become something different than they would usually become in order to create a typical organism. To this subsistence Driesch gives the name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driesch illustrates this well with his reductio ad absurdum proofs for entelechy. His first refutation is the purely chemical theory of morphogenesis. This is the theory that morphogenesis is just a product of various chemical reactions in cells. The fundamental problem is twofold: in regeneration chemicals would have to be lost and regained without any outside goal governing the change and that there aren t an abundance of chemicals correlating to the various types of differentiation, just a few rearranged in various ways. Thus, biology must at least go beyond simple chemistry. His next refutation is that of a mechanical view of biology. This is the idea that morphogenesis occurs due to a structure in cells which is set off by various interactions between the cells. Driesch s problem with this is that every cell would then have to contain the machine, which seems absurd, and if the embryo was just a machine it would perform the exact same way as normal embryos when we cut of various parts. These two refutations lead to entelechy, a patently philosophical idea. The refutations also require biology to inquire more deeply than chemistry and other natural sciences, which seems only to lead to philosophy. Philosophy then is part of science. We deduce some philosophical claims from our observations of natural phenomena that allow us to continue forth with our investigations and guide our work. We can see this in the layout of Driesch s book itself. He states, All our biology will not be for its own sake, but for the sake of philosophy (72). This statement doesn t seem to be contained only to his book. Instead, his book seems to be a paradigm for future science, where we utilize philosophy and allow ourselves to not reduce every natural phenomena to chemistry and physics. He concludes an accurate and engaging story of this outbreak in the history of epidemiology. Johnson who is known for his blunt and honest opinions about intersection of science and technology writes a wonderful narrative attacking the flawed proposals of the scientific community (Pogrebin, 2006). Ghost Map demonstrates the tragic events that caused devastating destruction to this community due to this mysterious disease called cholera. Cholera is caused by a bacteria called Vibrio Cholerae (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). During the London cholera epidemic, family after family became ill (Johnson, 2006). People developed nausea and vomiting (Johnson, 2006). Many also had abdominal cramps and diarrhea (Johnson, 2006). Almost all who were infected were completely dehydrated (Johnson, 2006). The disease spread fast and was even known to kill (Johnson, 2006). Most of the time, the disease would kill within 12 hours of contact (Johnson, 2006). Johnson explains that medical authorities were able to identify the disease as cholera because of outbreaks in Britain that had occurred in the 1830 s and 1840 s (Johnson, 2006). Instead, the fragment ends with whose soul is lightning which refers not to the red cloud, but to the flesh itself. In other words, the red cloud is not the object of the concluding clause, but a psychological multiplier: the reader sees a red cloud (associated with storms) and then sees lightning exacerbated by the immediately preceding image. First we need to identify the debt, equity and the firm value, which is equity plus debt. Then we identify the debt cost (rD), which is a pre tax cost, and then we need to identify the cost of equity (rE). As we can observe in table A, the debt percentage in capital is 60 %, which implies that the equity is 40 %. By dividing the income taxes by the company s income before taxes, we find that t = 175,9 / 398,9 = 0,44 To find the risk free rate, we chose to use the arithmetic average on long term U.S. government bond returns for the longest time period ... We think that the financing of the restaurant division is a bit different. Since we re told that Marriott in a higher degree uses more short term debt to finance this division, we use only 10 year interest rates, which, according to table B is 8,72%. The restaurant division has a significantly higher spread, which is 1,80%. rD for restaurant division = 8,72% + 1,80% = 10,52%. These are only the fixed part of the cost of debt. For the floating part of the debt we use one year bonds. This means that the floating part of the cost of debt is for the lodging division 6,90% + 1,10% = 8,00%, and for the restaurant division it s 6,90% + 1,80% = 8,70%, due to the different spreads. The lodging division has 50% fixed debt rate and 50 % floating rate, whilst the restaurant division has 25% floating rate and 75% fixed rate. These numbers gives the following calculation for the different costs of debt: Lodging cost of debt: 50% * 8,00% + 50% * 10,05% = 9,025% Restaurant cost of debt: 75% * 8,70% + 25% * 10,52% = 10,065% These different divisions need a different cost of debt because of the fact that assets in the restaurant and contracting services have shorter useful lives. The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life. Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another sounds as of bare feet upon the floor! His did the best he cloud but with no medical help she died after three days. He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically dad what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although some people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Pros Of Eugenics As a trained nurse in the slums and tenements of New York I had been brought face to face with conditions that made the so called sacredness of motherhood a term of unspeakable irony. Pregnant women drunken husbands hungry children, children born to a heritage of disease, filth, crime this was the order of that day. As one pregnancy followed another, a family sank deeper into the mire. And always denied contraceptive knowledge by their doctors, these women were driven to other means. On Saturday evenings, they lined up before the office of a cheap abortionist, each waiting her turn. The United States came up with a system where high income earners pay taxes at a higher rate than low income earners. The reason why the flat tax remains a favored idea is because it eliminates double taxation. It discards the section of the tax code that is biased against the formation of the capital. This article focuses on one of his highly appreciated work, Concept of Law 1961. The book analyses on the law, morality and fear or threat through which the author is attempting to classify the question as to whether the law can be conceptualized as the forceful orders or the moral commands. Prof. Hart is of the opinion that all laws need not be classified as coercive or moral commands, there need not be any logical connection between the Laws, and morality or between the laws and coercion. He is of the opinion that by classifying all laws as either moral commands or coercive orders will be misleading and mischaracterizing the purpose and function for which the law was originally created. Different laws have different applicability as it is drawn from several sources and there exists a purpose for which a law will be created. Laws are made to curtail the actions of man, and to prohibit him from various kinds of actions. These are called duties which a person has to do as he is bound by the law to do it.
