War and Deception
The responsibilities of a presidential administration to the United States should be easily defined, but
in many instances have come to be uncertain. There are two wars over the last century that have
compromised the American reputation, as well as the integrity of our people. On these two occasions
the intentions of our president have been something different than publicized to the country. The
United States as a whole was deceived by two particular leaders and their administration. Through
propaganda, selective speech, and exaggerated evidence, Presidents Lyndon Johnson and George W.
Bush manipulated the support of the nation for their bold military actions and personal agendas. In
August of 1964 there was an alleged attack by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the Vietnam War was to stop communist expansion and to protect South Vietnam from
attacks by North Vietnam and rebels within South Vietnam who hoped to unite the two countries
under communism (Nelson, 488). This war was one of the most excruciating experiences in American
history. It left us wounded and deflated as a superpower. Americans view of their country after a loss
and embarrassment like this one was now ruined. No one president is entirely responsible for the
development of this war, but Johnson was the first to send combat troops to Vietnam. Years later, after
learning the deception of the Johnson administration, blame may be placed more upon Johnson and
his manipulation of Congress and the public by publicizing a threat to our security that never existed.
The administration took advantage of Congress and exaggerated or simply created an attack on the
U.S. as an excuse to use military action on North Vietnam. Daniel Ellsburg, a government insider and
a State Department civilian during the Vietnam War, stole, copied and published the Pentagon Papers.
The Pentagon Papers were a top secret study of the U.S. decision making in Vietnam. Ellsburg worked
closely with the presidential administration during the war and was sent to Vietnam for two years to
observe the war and evaluate the pacification of the countryside (Ellsburg, VIII). Immediately after
returning from Vietnam he began to do everything in his power

Vice President of the United States and Archer
RetailMax: A Study in Social Power in the Workplace In the case of RetailMax there are two major
players, Cam Archer a young and upcoming MBA with great potential and the new Vice President of
Product Management and Marketing, Regan Kessel. Archer has a difficult decision to make today,
does she want her dream job in Marketing with Kessel, or accept a position offered to her in the
Product Services division where she is working now. Both positions have qualities that appeal to her
and she needs to decide where she wants to make her future. As the situation stands now, Archer has a
great amount of potential power. The CEO and the two vice presidents have great respect for her and
have left the decision of which job she will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one factor missing here is that neither Kessel nor the CEO has directly discussed with Archer
what she expects from the job. Kessel is assuming that he has to match the compensation offer of the
Product services VP, when in fact she is also interested in the intangible considerations like a lighter
travel schedule and better career development activities (McGinn Witter, Archer, p.5). Archer also
assumes that if she stays in Product Services she will pigeonholed into customer service and support
when she would rather be in management (McGinn Witter, Archer, p.4). Both positions are of great
interest to Archer and it is going to be difficult to make a decision. This is what she is saying before
she talks to Kessel. As Archer sees it now, Kessel s position in Marketing is going to give her more
social power within the organization as she is closer to the VP and the CEO. In the Product Services
division there are more layers between her and the top which she believes will slow down her upward
mobility. It is easy to postulate that if easy access to the top of the company hierarchy is more
important than a high salary, then Kessel s job is the one she should take. Her charisma and talent will
only take her so far in RetailMax, she wants social connections to the CEO. As aforementioned,
Archer has connections to the CEO that could affect Kessel s position in RetailMax. The

his human form, he escaped the king s wolf hunt by imploring the king for mercy and accompanied
the king thereafter. His behaviour at court was so much gentler than when his wife and her new
husband appeared at court, that his hateful attack on the couple was deemed justly motivated, and the
truth was revealed. The German word werwolf is recorded by Burchard von Worms in the 11th
century, and by Bertold of Regensburg in the 13th, but is not recorded in all of medieval German
poetry or fiction. References to werewolves are also rare in England, presumably because whatever
significance the wolf men of Germanic paganism had carried, the associated beliefs and practices had
been successfully repressed after Christianization (or if they persisted, they did so outside of the
sphere of literacy available to us).[18] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harald I of Norway is known to have had a body of Úlfhednar (wolf coated [men]), which are

effectiveness in battle.[19] These warriors were resistant to pain and killed viciously in battle, much
like wild animals. Úlfhednar and berserkers are closely associated with the Norse god

Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act
Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) the end of the tax heavens and the Banking Secrecy,
International cooperation or coercion?
The offshore tax evasion is a problem that most countries face mainly because there are many
structures that help sophisticated investors to avoid the payment of those taxes. Its been estimated that
the worldwide value of the offshore accounts is somewhere around $11.5 trillion. After the 2008
global financial crisis, the United States was going through one of the most severe recession, the tax
evasion crisis and the growing budget deficit at it highest point , in 2009 President Obama stated

The core idea of the Chapter 4 is to make whithholdable payments to foreign financial institutions
(FIF s) and non financial foreign entities (NFFE s) that will be subject to a 30% withholding on all
U.S. source income, making foreign institutions a key element for the U.S. government of the revenue
collection system. The IFI s will be required to report information on financial accounts of U.S.
persons and foreign entities with significant U.S. ownership to the IRS in order to avoid the 30%

Professor Bruce W. Bean refers to the implementation of FATCA as; FATCA is the most extraordinary
extension of Congressional extraterritorial overreach ever enacted . The unilateral decision made by
the U.S. government to impose these huge and costly compliance and reporting requirements to the
FFI s, it was alarming to the international financial community, only not because FFI s are forced to
implement expensive compliance programs in order to avoid the withholding that was imposed upon
them, but also because many jurisdictions rely heavily on their bank secrecy law as an asset for
making business and creating revenue in their own countries.
This dissertation main focus is to discuss the extent on which the application of FATCA should be

Comparison Of Sleepy Hollow And Ichabod Crane
The style of Washington Irving s story varies from enchanted and mysterious, to downright jovial. His
rich language describes Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod Crane s time spent there with lavish detail of the
scenery and even the food.Ironically, the end and explanation of the Headless Horseman is different in
the two sources. In the story, with Crane hungry for the supernatural, Irving implies with his ending
that Brom Bones was the Horseman and that what happened could have a reality based explanation. In
the movie, where Johnny Depp s Ichabod Crane adamantly rejects any supernatural ideas, Tim Burton
creates an entire back story of witchcraft to explain the Headless Hessian. In one similarity, both

Romero Britto Research Paper
Romero Britto is a twentieth and twenty first century pop artist who was born in Recife, Brazil on
October 6, 1963. He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto with a son
named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child and was first
introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full understanding of
becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him books that were about
famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and began copying these fine art
pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art to escape from the real world even
through his early twenties when he was working to get into law school. He of course eventually
dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto traveled to Paris where he was introduced to
the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and Picasso. Romero has explored with many media
including watercolor, pen and ink, serigraphy, lithography, acrylic, and even finger paint. He uses
many forms of Cubism in his pop art along with his signature bright colors and bold patterns. ... Show

Star Life Cycle
The life cycle of star is on an eternal cycle of birth, death and regeneration where the gases that form
stars are ejected by the very stars when they die. This all starts with the helium gas and fusion of
hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and low mass stars.
Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram about 1910 that
shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types.
Stellar Nebula A nebula contains dust and gas where gravity causes these to group together. Before the
star is formed, the protostar will need to attain hydrostatic equilibrium by balancing the gravity getting

They are very bright since they have large diameters, but with low surface temperatures compared to
the Sun. When the helium in the core is completely used the core collapses again.
Planetary Nebula Planetary nebula are formed in the outer core of the star that are vanished when the
star of the Sun s mass changes from a red giant to white dwarf. At this stage all the energy from the
star fades away losing layers and forms a complex structure. White Dwarf White dwarf is very small
with diameter as the Earth and mass similar to the Sun formed when the core of red giant collapsed.
The maximum mass a white dwarf can have is about 1.4 solar masses which is known as
Chandrasekhar limit. A single star can be one mass at the start of life and still evolve into a white
dwarf being 0.6 mass compressed into approximately the volume of the Earth. Even though it is hot, it
is not as bright compared to its temperature of more than 8000° C. However, they cool down and fade
over billions of years.

Swot Analysis Of Hidden Valley s Taste Not Waste
Hidden Valley s taste not waste campaign encourages consumers to use their unlovable fruits and
vegetables instead of throwing them away. This campaign did not include demographics/audience
identification. They only said that their demographic was the consumers. They needed to be more
specific when stating who the consumers are. Hidden Valley also did not do any research or list any
competitors that they may have or if it even concerns them or threatens their campaign.

To help bring awareness to their campaign Hidden Valley made use of their Facebook page and eBay
when starting their campaign. The Taste Not Waste campaign got the attention of many bloggers and
news sources like MSNBC and the Washington Post which is a big deal. People were even posting
recipes on Pinterest for ways to use the unlovable fruits and vegetables.
Hidden Valley created limited edition bottles to help bring awareness to the problem and donate the
proceeds to support Great Nation Eats. The bottles were sold only on eBay where people could bid in
order to receive the bottle. I don t feel as if Hidden Valley really utilized or considered their customers
when they came to the decision to only sell on eBay. I think they could have raised more money and
awareness and even had more success with the campaign if they would have sold the limited edition
bottles in stores rather than just on eBay. They did not consider how many more people they could

clientele when they planned the campaign.

Eating Traditional Portuguese Food In My Family
Eating traditional Portuguese food was a way of connecting with my living family members and
ancestors. Preparing, eating, sharing these foods, as well as sharing the stories associated with them
were vital in the maintenance of my Portuguese identity. The first few months of being vegan were
difficult because I struggled to fit in. Eating at the dinner table with my aunts, uncles, and cousins
became an uncomfortable activity. I was constantly met with criticism, confusion, and disappointment.
I was also pressured, from several family members, to return to my past ways of eating. I could no
longer share in the experience of eating these traditional foods with my family. They felt like I was
rejecting them, which was definitely not the case. Although food is a major part of my culture, it is not
the only thing that connects me to it. I can still engage with song, language, and dance. Those things
were important for me to remember when I first started out as a vegan. My decision to stop eating
meat and dairy wasn t about my family. It was about living in a way that does the least harm to the
planet and its sentient beings. Nowadays, I m experiencing more understanding from my family. Some
of them have been doing their own research and are open to having conversations with me about
eating ethically. Of course, there are a lot of conversations that still need to happen.
I am fortunate enough to have an immediate family that enjoys eating fruits and vegetables. During

How Does Charles Darnay Affect The Character Of Sydney Carton
How has the introduction of Charles Darnay s character impacted Sydney Carton s perception of
himself ? (Are Carton s realizations shown publicly, reflecting his true nature?)
The introduction of Charles Darnay s character drastically affected Carton s mental state of character.
Besides realizing the fact that they look so much similar, Carton found himself unable to like Darnay s
character. To Carton, Darnay becomes his constant reminder of what he could have been, What a
change you have made in yourself! A good reason for taking to a man, that he shows you what you
have fallen away from, and what you might have been! Change places with him, and would you have
been looked at by those blue eyes as he was. ( Dickens 89) In the presence of his character, he begins
to realize and think about his flaws thus accepting this better version of his doppelgänger. What he is
exposed to in his life is this frequent state of being in the shadows. This is shown with Mr. Stryver
who has Carton under his hands. Now with the appearance of Darnay, his spotlight or recognition is
covered again. What other sees is this drunken , miserable, and lazy man using alcohol to escape from
the reality of unhappiness. Because he knows his own status he tends to ... Show more content on

This system seem to be ineffective as Dickens portrays them only caring for themselves while

due to the large gap between the poverty of majority and the lavish Monseigneur. While Marquis ran

Analysis Of The Book King Leopold s Ghost
King Leopold s Ghost is a nonfiction book about Imperialism in Africa written by Adam Hochschild.
Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963 with a B.A. degree in
history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a reporter for a daily
newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing magazines. In 1986 he wrote his
first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second: King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he
writes about subjects he s interested in. In the introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he
knew nothing about the history of the Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3).
Hochschild said that when you come across something striking, you remember where you were when
you read it. In this particular experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a
quotation by Mark Twain about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this
sparked his interest in the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he
read about were true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild
21) to now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906
(History of the Belgian Congo). The phrase reign of terror is not an exaggeration, for King Leopold s
ownership of the Congo was very horrific. It all started when Henry Morton Stanley went in search of

What Would Happen If The Us In Singer By Peter Singer
It is not the responsibility of individuals to help their fellow man. Our resources are dwindling, and
there s no room to share. People and countries should learn to mend their own ways, and with reliance
on others for aid, they won t be able to do that. Garrett Hardin sees the world as a lifeboat. The people
inside of the boat are the rich, and the ones swimming outside of the boat are the poor. The population
of the people in the water is less than that of those in the boat. Hypothetically, there s 50 people in a
boat that s capable of withstanding a maximum capacity of 60. Swimming outside of the boat is 150
others. If the people in the boat were to let everyone on, it would sink; everyone drowns. This is what
would happen if The United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But while it looks easy on paper, it is much harder than it appears. Singer uses unrealistic scenarios to
guilt the reader into donating. For example, he refers to a Brazilian film Central Station. A woman,
Dora, can make $1,000 if she can persuade a homeless 9 year old to follow her to an address, where
the boy is to be adopted by foreigners. She delivers the boy, and buys a new TV set with the money
she has made. Later on the woman learns that the boy has been sold to organ peddlers, and he will
soon be killed. The inference Singer is trying to make is that there s no difference between someone
who sells a child to organ peddlers, and an American upgrading their television set, because both are
ethically wrong due to the fact that the money could have been donated. But is passive selfishness
really on the same level as the direct murder of an innocent child? Despite the fact that the money for
a TV set could save a child s life, it is far different, than the brutal murder of a small boy. The
comparison is simply absurd, and this is not the only time he uses it. In another scenario, a man is on
the train tracks and is torn between saving a child or his Bugatti from a runaway train. The man
throws the switch, redirecting the train and saving his Bugatti. The boy is killed. These two, farfetched
scenarios were used to show that we too have the chance to save a child s life. Writers, politicians,
philosophers, religious leaders, try and guilt you into donating. And according to Singer, those who
choose not to give away their money, are compared to the many Germans who looked away when the
Nazi horrors were being committed, which is another outlandish

Benefits Of A Successful Business
In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated to
do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be
profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and
showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects
negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return.
Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their
friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that
customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad
reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those
employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a
company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business
makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform better
at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company that is
highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to par take. The stock
at Google has climbed

The Dire Wolf
The Dire Wolf
The species that is known as the dire wolf is a large and powerful ancestor of modern wolves and dogs
which is now extinct. It has, however, left a rich legacy in myths and legends across many northern
countries where it once roamed as one of the most feared predators of all time. This paper traces the
way that the dire wolf has been represented in myths and legends of the past, and also in the stories,
films and computer video games of the modern world. The exact species which gave rise to all the
legends is the Canis dirus and it lived in the Pleistocene Epoch (2.6 million to 11.700 years ago) in
both North and South America (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2012, p. 1). It was considerably larger than
the modern gray wolf, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This game shows the dire wolf as both a fearful enemy and a loyal fighter in battle, and this reflects an
appreciation of its qualities to contribute towards good or evil outcomes. In the music genre, the band
Grateful Dead immortalized the dire wolf as six hundred pounds of sin which was grinning outside the
window at a hard drinking, hard gambling man. The chorus of the song don t murder me implies that
the dire wolf has come to take the man s life. The dire wolf symbolizes all the wrong that a person has
done in the past, and the likelihood that cruel retribution will come one day. These examples outlined
above have shown that the dire wolf has maintained its fascination for human beings long after its
extinction. Its combination of force, cruelty and cunning, along with enormous size, and tendency to
roam in packs serve as an example of power even in very harsh conditions. It has connotations of
majesty, and also cruelty, especially when dealing out justice and revenge. Even in the twenty first
century it has the power to cast fear into our modern imagination.

Selling an Insurance policy to a person whose age is between 18 20 years doesn t make any sense. So
we should know if we are going to sell an Insurance policy , the person should be of such age that
understands what are the reason to buy the insurance.
Before a person going for a certain location they have to make a call or in other words I can say they
have to make an appointment. Before going to any location the sales person has to make some cold
calls also which needs to be collect from his database. In this process the sales person has to make as
much as information as he can before going to the customers location.
Another important step in personal selling is approach where a sales person has to make their first
impression to be the best impression. The sales person has to treat the customer by smiling , by
properly greeting . First of all the sales person needs to introduce himself and focus on the product .
Once we come to know the customer is interested in the product then the sales person needs to do a
presentation. They needs to explain clear about the features and all about the product. Then the sales
person has to handle the questions from a customer in this regard. Before the sales person moving to
close the sales they have to answer to any query from the customer.

Moreover, the signs and the symptoms of a motor neuron disease depend on the kind of motor neuron

Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp
Imagine this. You have just gotten a new watch, one that is cheap and ubiquitous, the Casio F 91W
digital watch. However, in a string of contiguous events, you are arrested by U.S. armed forces in
Afghanistan, and sent to one of the most widely condemned places in the world Guantanamo Bay
detention camp (Ball). While this scenario may sound strange and confusing, it was the sad reality for
many innocent men, who committed no crime other than wearing a watch. Admittedly, this watch was
given out by al Qaida to trainees, but many of the people who had this watch were innocent, not at all

Gitmo has succeeded in alienating the U.S. from allies. President Obama said this himself in a White
House remark on National Security, Because the terrorists can only succeed if they swell their ranks
and alienate America from our allies, which is exactly what Gitmo is doing. Additionally, Gitmo
encourages further terror, as it is used in terrorist propaganda to paint a negative picture of a
hypocritical America (Postel). In fact, the orange jumpsuits worn by victims in Daesh s (Islamic State
of Iraq and the Levant) execution videos, pay direct homage to the uniform of Gitmo detainees

detainees who were subject to enhanced interrogation techniques, which were the equivalent of
torture. Considering must of the subjects confessions were given under duress, they are invalid and the
means by which they were received raise further questions about Gitmo ( Torture ). If the institution
itself is not helpful, and must be closed according to the authorities who started it, it seems obvious

The Case For Clarity Analysis
Expressing clarity in my leadership something I have been working on for a couple years now. I have
a tendency to see what I want done and I Know how we are gonna get there however, I do not always
clarify that to everyone else. In this weeks article The Case for Clarity: A Key Leadership Ingredient it
states: Effective leaders don t have to be passionate. They don t have to be charming. They don t have
to be brilliant...They don t have to be great speakers. What they must be is clear. (pg. 1) If I m honest
this statement caught me completely off guard. After dissecting the statement I completely agree.

Mental Trauma In Beloved
The concept of slavery is of course associated with the inhumane acts of torture that slaves endured
forced to pick cotton in the boiling sun and valued as less than humans. Today, however, the concept
of slavery is simply one that is taught in the classrooms it becomes difficult to conceptualize how
humans were so mistreated. In Morrison s Beloved, we experience the stories of individual slaves,
Paul D and Sethe, and how traumatic it was. We are able to connect with the characters and empathize
with them due to Morrison s hyperattention to detail when telling their stories. Morrison includes
every gruesome and horrific aspect of their journey to freedom in the North; from being left for dead,
to killing one s own child. Her incredibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter seven, the author reveals the reason for the downfall of Halle, and ultimately uses this story
to illustrate the mental trauma that slaves had to face. Morrison also cleverly utilizes the metaphors of
butter and milk to emphasize this trauma. In this chapter, Paul D reveals to Sethe that Halle witnessed
her being sexually assaulted by the schoolteacher s boys, and that this ultimately broke him like a twig
and caused him to run away (Beloved 7, 69). He finishes by saying the last time he saw him, he had
butter all over his face, another implication that the witnessing of his wife being raped drove him to
insanity. Throughout the book, Halle was described as a good man, and even a source of stability for
Sethe. This made it extremely hard for Sethe to hear this imagery of her ex lover, as Morrison writes,
Usually she could see the picture right away of what she heard. But she could not picture what Paul D
said. (Beloved 7, 69) In addition, Sethe s daughter Denver had an extremely high view of her dad. She
said that he was an angel man and never went crazy (Beloved 208). However, this story showed that
the last memories of his dad, in fact, proved his dad to be crazy. In addition, Sethe describes the
hardships of her rape. I am full God damn it of two boys with mossy teeth, one sucking on my breast
the other holding me down, their book reading teacher watching and writing it up. I am still full of
that, God damn it, I can t go back and add more. Add my husband to it, watching, above me in the loft
hiding close by the one place he thought no one would look for him, looking down on what I couldn t
look at at all. (Beloved 7, 70) Here, Sethe is describing the gross boys with mossy teeth, emphasizing
their grossness. More importantly, however, Morrison is also continuing the metaphor previously
mentioned. Halle witnesses these

How Do Some Situations Impact People s Life Differently
Some situations impact people s life differently. Some situations can impact a life positively and
others, negatively (SC2). Because people react to situations differently, someone might think a
situation is positive, but the other person might think that the same situation is negative (BE2). The
situation that impacted me the greatest so far was when I started my first job at a local grocery store.
This has impacted me the most because it has taught me many useful skills. The first step of obtaining
a job was the job interview. Confident and optimistic, I walked into the interview (BE1). When the

What Role Does Morality Play In A Utopian Society
The concept of utopia is one which has many differing connotations and is therefore also one which
cannot be confined to one interpretation alone. The term is commonly used to represent a community
or society that, in theory, possesses highly desirable or near perfect qualities; however, these
encompassing ideals, which arguably place emphasis on egalitarian principles of equality, are
implemented in a number of ways and are subsequently based on varying ideologies, thus insisting on
varying views of morality. The word itself, which was first coined by Sir Thomas More in the early
sixteenth century and used to describe a fictional island society in the Atlantic Ocean, was taken from
the Greek οὐ ( not ) and τόπος ( place ), literally translating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The task at hand is to establish the perception of a utopic past, and therefore it is with regard to these
two contrasting notions of utopia that I will be considering the ways in which both William Blake s
The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and Algernon Charles Swinburne s Hermaphroditus seek to expose
and challenge the mechanisms of traditional views regarding spiritualism and the physical form, as
well as critiquing the mode of normative sexuality and representations of the body. Another important
concept to consider alongside this is that of dystopia, which is characterized by dehumanization,
totalitarian governments, and all matters associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Dystopic
societies are usually set in the future and provide an antonymic, frightening opposition to the general
concept of utopia. Rather than portraying an idyllic state of civilisation which promises an exit from
the cycle of life and death, the term dystopia is used to draw attention to real world issues which if
unaddressed could potentially lead to such a dystopia like

Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Volcanoes are a big mound that erupts and spews out lava, when it erupts the lava flows down the side
of the volcano and when it cools down it turns to rock. As it erupts rocks fly out and can cause a huge
amount of damage and quite often kill people. When volcanoes erupt they create a large ash cloud.
There are three main types of volcanoes, these are Cinder Cone, Shield and Composite volcanoes.
Cinder Cone
Cinder Cone Volcanoes are small, hill sized volcanoes that range in height from tens to hundreds of
meters. Cinder cones are the simplest and most common type of volcano. Cinder cones can grow
quickly, but they don t become giants. They can build up over short periods of a few months to a few
years. A cinder cone is also called a scoria cone. When lava that is highly charged with gas bubbles
erupts from a vent under pressure, it tends to shoot straight up into the air. This effect is called a fire
fountain, and it can sometimes be hundreds of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Shield volcanoes are built by effusive eruptions, which flow out in all directions to create a shield like
shape. Shield volcanoes are the largest volcanoes on Earth that actually look like volcanoes (i.e. not
counting flood basalt flows). The Hawaiian shield volcanoes are the most famous examples. They are
made from a type of lava that is very fluid when erupted, For this reason these volcanoes are not steep
because you can t pile up a fluid that easily runs downhill. The width of these volcanoes is typically
around 20 times the size of their height. Also, they can vary greatly in terms of size and some can be

Gothic Fiction And Traditional Fairytales
Gothic fiction is a product of human curiosity, fascination and fear. This genre of literature represents
human fears in a more symbolic and allegorical way, allowing readers to address their phobias in a
safe frame. Gothic fiction is mistakenly associated with adult fiction due to the common belief that the
gruesome events described in this mode of literature are inappropriate for children. Nevertheless, kids
are the ones who have the biggest questions and fears. Gothic fiction, with its grotesque creatures and
spooky places, turns kid fears into fictional characters that are defeated by the forces of good. This
essay examines the connection between Gothic fiction and traditional fairytales, while it discusses
how Gothic stories help children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, these elements do not appear as sinister as in adult Gothic fiction, but the basis is the same.
A proof for their presence is Karen Coats observation. As Coats puts it, traditional Gothic stories for
adults provide fairytale themes and motifs with an evil tone (78). If there were not any similarities
between these two genres of literature, traditional adult Gothic would not use fairytales as a basis.
Furthermore, considering that Charles Perrault s Little Red Riding Hood is a splendid example of
traditional fairytales, it is worth observing if Gothic elements can be traced in it. Little Red Riding
Hood includes characteristics that resemble Gothic fiction s characteristics as presented by David
Punter; an emphasis on portraying the terrifying, a common insistence on archaic settings, a prominent
use of the supernatural... (cited in Roberts 21). Firstly, the setting is terrifying; a young girl alone in
the woods. Secondly, the use of supernatural is profound; the wolf can speak and think like humans.
According to Coats, this kind of elements in classic fairytales, like creepy settings, forbidden wishes
and evil villains, are associated with children s dangerous impulses and aggressions (78). The role of
fairytales is to deal with these unwanted urges

had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went into Nationals, we did not even think
that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3, and the dream was to get first.
We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition. So,
we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling alley, so
we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding time. We had

he read the work of Agrippa and there his fascination manifested with the thought of educating
himself. As he got older, he decided with his family that he needed to further his education by

beginning of the long journey of obsession he embarked upon. At the University, he met a professor

and set out to make this discovery and wouldn t stop working until he reached the answer. His
curiosity of the psychical sciences increased everyday along with his obsession of creating the

where he has to put everything on hold and create something that will forever change his life. The
place where Victor first begins his mental downfall begins in his laboratory in Ingolstadt, a large town
near the south end of Germany. Victor s laboratory was a solitary chamber, or rather a cell, at the top

Ricardo Semler s Leadership Style
1. Describe Ricardo Semler s leadership style. What do you think the advantages and drawbacks of his
style might be?
Ricardo Semler s leadership style can be described as radical. This approach encourages followers to
share their ideas and apply their creativity and ingenuity to reach the company s goals. The employees
have the opportunity to offer suggestions to improve the company. Also, every employee establishes
their norms and their way of completing their job. They are free to choose their schedule, their level of
salary, and who will be their boss. This model gives the employee a positive feedback since they are
recognized for their good work and ideas.
Some of the advantages the radical leadership style has are:
The employees feel that they have greater responsibility and trust put on them, this can generate
greater participation, commitment and a better job performance.
Each employee is responsible for their own performance, creating self commitment.
There are no restrictions on resources or schedules that prevent them to carry out their work properly.
Subordinates are free to choose their schedule and their level of salary.
The employees have to assume the consequences of their actions.
The type of communication is open, there are no defined controls or pressures.
Each employee has the opportunity to vote in the election of the company s leadership and new
initiatives.

How Does Rap Music Affect Society
American Rappers have been perceived as artists who cannot do any good to society, because of their
lyrics or the music videos that they make, but that is only one small group of individual rappers.
Generalizing has never been a good thing, and that is exactly what these people do all the time putting
all rappers in the same category. How can some people be so ignorant and not recognize the excellent
music that has saved people from themselves? Out there right now there are a lot of rappers that are
always making beautiful music and this type of rap music has been made since Hip Hop s beginnings.
Making people believe that rap music is the worst thing that has ever happened just makes the society
unknowledgeable and doesn t allow that the good rap music that has already inspired a lot of people to
overcome their adversities reach and help even more people. Rap music has always been categorized
like the music that makes youth act recklessly, and for that reason rappers are often seen as just as bad
influence and nothing else. Writer graduated of Stanford Becky Blanchard points out that Rap, like
other forms of music, cannot be understood unless it is studied without the frame of its historical and

An Analysis Of Ben Jonson s The Lyric
In 1616, Ben Jonson published the lyric Still to Be Neat, which was responded to in 1648 with Delight
in Disorder, a lyric by Robert Herrick (Kornman, 1)(Adams, 1). Both poems are iambic tetrameter and
include a plethora of similarities. These similarities, including rhyme and diction, are used to
emphasize the theme, which I believe to be naturalness, of both poems (Reviewing, 1). The message
of each poem, although presented through different tones, is that the imperfections of a woman s
natural beauty are admirable to not only the eyes, but also the heart of a man. While the poems use
diction to accentuate the common theme and display similar rhyme schemes that represent the point of
view in the poems, there is a difference within these similarities, the contrasting tones, which aid in
getting the message across to the reader.
Notably, the use of diction in each poem is used to emphasize the theme and aid to the tone of each
speaker. For starters, the speakers in each poem are men that prefer a woman in sweet disorder (
Delight 1) with hair as free ( Still 9), rather than a woman still perfumed ( Still 3) and too precise in
every part ( Delight 14). In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, much poetry incorporated the idea of
disorder in women and specifically, Jonson notes that there s something peculiar about a woman who
is always neatly dressed; what is she hiding (Adams, 1). In these few examples, the diction is geared
towards representing

  • 2. War and Deception The responsibilities of a presidential administration to the United States should be easily defined, but in many instances have come to be uncertain. There are two wars over the last century that have compromised the American reputation, as well as the integrity of our people. On these two occasions the intentions of our president have been something different than publicized to the country. The United States as a whole was deceived by two particular leaders and their administration. Through propaganda, selective speech, and exaggerated evidence, Presidents Lyndon Johnson and George W. Bush manipulated the support of the nation for their bold military actions and personal agendas. In August of 1964 there was an alleged attack by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of the Vietnam War was to stop communist expansion and to protect South Vietnam from attacks by North Vietnam and rebels within South Vietnam who hoped to unite the two countries under communism (Nelson, 488). This war was one of the most excruciating experiences in American history. It left us wounded and deflated as a superpower. Americans view of their country after a loss and embarrassment like this one was now ruined. No one president is entirely responsible for the development of this war, but Johnson was the first to send combat troops to Vietnam. Years later, after learning the deception of the Johnson administration, blame may be placed more upon Johnson and his manipulation of Congress and the public by publicizing a threat to our security that never existed. The administration took advantage of Congress and exaggerated or simply created an attack on the U.S. as an excuse to use military action on North Vietnam. Daniel Ellsburg, a government insider and a State Department civilian during the Vietnam War, stole, copied and published the Pentagon Papers. The Pentagon Papers were a top secret study of the U.S. decision making in Vietnam. Ellsburg worked closely with the presidential administration during the war and was sent to Vietnam for two years to observe the war and evaluate the pacification of the countryside (Ellsburg, VIII). Immediately after returning from Vietnam he began to do everything in his power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vice President of the United States and Archer RetailMax: A Study in Social Power in the Workplace In the case of RetailMax there are two major players, Cam Archer a young and upcoming MBA with great potential and the new Vice President of Product Management and Marketing, Regan Kessel. Archer has a difficult decision to make today, does she want her dream job in Marketing with Kessel, or accept a position offered to her in the Product Services division where she is working now. Both positions have qualities that appeal to her and she needs to decide where she wants to make her future. As the situation stands now, Archer has a great amount of potential power. The CEO and the two vice presidents have great respect for her and have left the decision of which job she will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The one factor missing here is that neither Kessel nor the CEO has directly discussed with Archer what she expects from the job. Kessel is assuming that he has to match the compensation offer of the Product services VP, when in fact she is also interested in the intangible considerations like a lighter travel schedule and better career development activities (McGinn Witter, Archer, p.5). Archer also assumes that if she stays in Product Services she will pigeonholed into customer service and support when she would rather be in management (McGinn Witter, Archer, p.4). Both positions are of great interest to Archer and it is going to be difficult to make a decision. This is what she is saying before she talks to Kessel. As Archer sees it now, Kessel s position in Marketing is going to give her more social power within the organization as she is closer to the VP and the CEO. In the Product Services division there are more layers between her and the top which she believes will slow down her upward mobility. It is easy to postulate that if easy access to the top of the company hierarchy is more important than a high salary, then Kessel s job is the one she should take. Her charisma and talent will only take her so far in RetailMax, she wants social connections to the CEO. As aforementioned, Archer has connections to the CEO that could affect Kessel s position in RetailMax. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Research Paper On Werwolf his human form, he escaped the king s wolf hunt by imploring the king for mercy and accompanied the king thereafter. His behaviour at court was so much gentler than when his wife and her new husband appeared at court, that his hateful attack on the couple was deemed justly motivated, and the truth was revealed. The German word werwolf is recorded by Burchard von Worms in the 11th century, and by Bertold of Regensburg in the 13th, but is not recorded in all of medieval German poetry or fiction. References to werewolves are also rare in England, presumably because whatever significance the wolf men of Germanic paganism had carried, the associated beliefs and practices had been successfully repressed after Christianization (or if they persisted, they did so outside of the sphere of literacy available to us).[18] ... The Úlfhednar were fighters similar to the berserkers, though they dressed in wolf hides rather than those of bears and were reputed to channel the spirits of these animals to enhance effectiveness in battle.[19] These warriors were resistant to pain and killed viciously in battle, much like wild animals. • 5. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) the end of the tax heavens and the Banking Secrecy, International cooperation or coercion? The offshore tax evasion is a problem that most countries face mainly because there are many structures that help sophisticated investors to avoid the payment of those taxes. Its been estimated that the worldwide value of the offshore accounts is somewhere around $11.5 trillion. After the 2008 global financial crisis, the United States was going through one of the most severe recession, the tax evasion crisis and the growing budget deficit at it highest point , in 2009 President Obama stated during an interview I did not run for office to be helping out a bunch of, you know, fat cat bankers on Wall ... The core idea of the Chapter 4 is to make whithholdable payments to foreign financial institutions (FIF s) and non financial foreign entities (NFFE s) that will be subject to a 30% withholding on all U.S. source income, making foreign institutions a key element for the U.S. government of the revenue collection system. The IFI s will be required to report information on financial accounts of U.S. persons and foreign entities with significant U.S. ownership to the IRS in order to avoid the 30% withhold, among other duties that would be discussed later on. Professor Bruce W. Bean refers to the implementation of FATCA as; FATCA is the most extraordinary extension of Congressional extraterritorial overreach ever enacted . The unilateral decision made by the U.S. government to impose these huge and costly compliance and reporting requirements to the FFI s, it was alarming to the international financial community, only not because FFI s are forced to implement expensive compliance programs in order to avoid the withholding that was imposed upon them, but also because many jurisdictions rely heavily on their bank secrecy law as an asset for making business and creating revenue in their own countries. His rich language describes Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod Crane s time spent there with lavish detail of the scenery and even the food.Ironically, the end and explanation of the Headless Horseman is different in the two sources. In the story, with Crane hungry for the supernatural, Irving implies with his ending that Brom Bones was the Horseman and that what happened could have a reality based explanation. In the movie, where Johnny Depp s Ichabod Crane adamantly rejects any supernatural ideas, Tim Burton creates an entire back story of witchcraft to explain the Headless Hessian. He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto with a son named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child and was first introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full understanding of becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him books that were about famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and began copying these fine art pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art to escape from the real world even through his early twenties when he was working to get into law school. He of course eventually dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and Picasso. This all starts with the helium gas and fusion of hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and low mass stars. Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram about 1910 that shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types. Hidden Valley also did not do any research or list any competitors that they may have or if it even concerns them or threatens their campaign. • 10. Eating Traditional Portuguese Food In My Family Eating traditional Portuguese food was a way of connecting with my living family members and ancestors. Preparing, eating, sharing these foods, as well as sharing the stories associated with them were vital in the maintenance of my Portuguese identity. The first few months of being vegan were difficult because I struggled to fit in. Eating at the dinner table with my aunts, uncles, and cousins became an uncomfortable activity. I was constantly met with criticism, confusion, and disappointment. I was also pressured, from several family members, to return to my past ways of eating. I could no longer share in the experience of eating these traditional foods with my family. They felt like I was rejecting them, which was definitely not the case. Although food is a major part of my culture, it is not the only thing that connects me to it. I can still engage with song, language, and dance. Those things were important for me to remember when I first started out as a vegan. My decision to stop eating meat and dairy wasn t about my family. It was about living in a way that does the least harm to the planet and its sentient beings. Nowadays, I m experiencing more understanding from my family. Some of them have been doing their own research and are open to having conversations with me about eating ethically. Of course, there are a lot of conversations that still need to happen. • 11. How Does Charles Darnay Affect The Character Of Sydney Carton How has the introduction of Charles Darnay s character impacted Sydney Carton s perception of himself ? (Are Carton s realizations shown publicly, reflecting his true nature?) The introduction of Charles Darnay s character drastically affected Carton s mental state of character. Besides realizing the fact that they look so much similar, Carton found himself unable to like Darnay s character. To Carton, Darnay becomes his constant reminder of what he could have been, What a change you have made in yourself! A good reason for taking to a man, that he shows you what you have fallen away from, and what you might have been! Change places with him, and would you have been looked at by those blue eyes as he was. ( Dickens 89) In the presence of his character, he begins to realize and think about his flaws thus accepting this better version of his doppelgänger. What he is exposed to in his life is this frequent state of being in the shadows. This is shown with Mr. Stryver who has Carton under his hands. • 12. Analysis Of The Book King Leopold s Ghost King Leopold s Ghost is a nonfiction book about Imperialism in Africa written by Adam Hochschild. Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963 with a B.A. degree in history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a reporter for a daily newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing magazines. In 1986 he wrote his first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second: King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he writes about subjects he s interested in. In the introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he knew nothing about the history of the Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3). Hochschild said that when you come across something striking, you remember where you were when you read it. In this particular experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a quotation by Mark Twain about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this sparked his interest in the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he read about were true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild 21) to now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906 (History of the Belgian Congo). The phrase reign of terror is not an exaggeration, for King Leopold s ownership of the Congo was very horrific. It all started when Henry Morton Stanley went in search of ... • 13. What Would Happen If The Us In Singer By Peter Singer It is not the responsibility of individuals to help their fellow man. Our resources are dwindling, and there s no room to share. People and countries should learn to mend their own ways, and with reliance on others for aid, they won t be able to do that. Garrett Hardin sees the world as a lifeboat. The people inside of the boat are the rich, and the ones swimming outside of the boat are the poor. The population of the people in the water is less than that of those in the boat. Hypothetically, there s 50 people in a boat that s capable of withstanding a maximum capacity of 60. Swimming outside of the boat is 150 others. If the people in the boat were to let everyone on, it would sink; everyone drowns. This is what would happen if The United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But while it looks easy on paper, it is much harder than it appears. Singer uses unrealistic scenarios to guilt the reader into donating. For example, he refers to a Brazilian film Central Station. A woman, Dora, can make $1,000 if she can persuade a homeless 9 year old to follow her to an address, where the boy is to be adopted by foreigners. She delivers the boy, and buys a new TV set with the money she has made. Later on the woman learns that the boy has been sold to organ peddlers, and he will soon be killed. The inference Singer is trying to make is that there s no difference between someone who sells a child to organ peddlers, and an American upgrading their television set, because both are ethically wrong due to the fact that the money could have been donated. But is passive selfishness really on the same level as the direct murder of an innocent child? Despite the fact that the money for a TV set could save a child s life, it is far different, than the brutal murder of a small boy. The comparison is simply absurd, and this is not the only time he uses it. In another scenario, a man is on the train tracks and is torn between saving a child or his Bugatti from a runaway train. The man throws the switch, redirecting the train and saving his Bugatti. The boy is killed. These two, farfetched scenarios were used to show that we too have the chance to save a child s life. Writers, politicians, philosophers, religious leaders, try and guilt you into donating. And according to Singer, those who choose not to give away their money, are compared to the many Germans who looked away when the Nazi horrors were being committed, which is another outlandish ... • 14. Benefits Of A Successful Business In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and showing appreciation. When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return. Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb). By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform better at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. • 15. The Dire Wolf The Dire Wolf The species that is known as the dire wolf is a large and powerful ancestor of modern wolves and dogs which is now extinct. It has, however, left a rich legacy in myths and legends across many northern countries where it once roamed as one of the most feared predators of all time. This paper traces the way that the dire wolf has been represented in myths and legends of the past, and also in the stories, films and computer video games of the modern world. The exact species which gave rise to all the legends is the Canis dirus and it lived in the Pleistocene Epoch (2.6 million to 11.700 years ago) in both North and South America (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2012, p. 1). It was considerably larger than the modern gray wolf, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This game shows the dire wolf as both a fearful enemy and a loyal fighter in battle, and this reflects an appreciation of its qualities to contribute towards good or evil outcomes. In the music genre, the band Grateful Dead immortalized the dire wolf as six hundred pounds of sin which was grinning outside the window at a hard drinking, hard gambling man. The chorus of the song don t murder me implies that the dire wolf has come to take the man s life. The dire wolf symbolizes all the wrong that a person has done in the past, and the likelihood that cruel retribution will come one day. These examples outlined above have shown that the dire wolf has maintained its fascination for human beings long after its extinction. Its combination of force, cruelty and cunning, along with enormous size, and tendency to roam in packs serve as an example of power even in very harsh conditions. It has connotations of majesty, and also cruelty, especially when dealing out justice and revenge. Even in the twenty first century it has the power to cast fear into our modern imagination. He finishes by saying the last time he saw him, he had butter all over his face, another implication that the witnessing of his wife being raped drove him to insanity. Throughout the book, Halle was described as a good man, and even a source of stability for Sethe. This made it extremely hard for Sethe to hear this imagery of her ex lover, as Morrison writes, Usually she could see the picture right away of what she heard. But she could not picture what Paul D said. (Beloved 7, 69) In addition, Sethe s daughter Denver had an extremely high view of her dad.
