Essay on Don t Ask, Don t Tell
Imagine being in the heat of war, a place where trust is needed most. Imagine, however, that in the
heat of war you cannot trust your fellow soldier because of personal tensions within the unit. It was
this problem that the policy known as Don t Ask, Don t Tell was designed to avoid, the tension caused
between soldiers when homosexuals are serving openly. Without this policy, homosexuals serving
openly could create tension that interferes with the military s effectiveness. While it may not be
obvious at first, the policy of Don t Ask Don t Tell actually supports the both values of the military
and the rights of homosexuals. As a result, Don t Ask Don t Tell is needed to protect homosexual
service members and is crucial in securing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This policy was created to secure the military s effectiveness but also to protect homosexuals.
Without Don t Ask Don t Tell homosexuals are subject to more discrimination and abuse. Don t Ask
Don t Tell protects homosexuals from the most harmful situations. A large number of the military
members join at a young age, shortly after graduating from high school. They are often from small
towns and conservative backgrounds, and as a result they have less exposure to the homosexual
lifestyle (Beattie). This means the majority of incoming soldiers may not be as accepting towards
homosexuals, which could result in harassment and abuse. The Winchell Case is a good example of
what could happen if an open policy is enacted (Walke).
In 1999, Private Barry Winchell was killed by another soldier. An investigation revealed that Winchell
s fellow officers had discovered he was homosexual and had been harassing him for months before the
fatal assault. If Winchell s superiors had followed the current policy, than he would have been
removed from the unit and might have escaped unharmed (Walke). Without Don t Ask Don t Tell these
types of situations could occur very easily. Because many people cannot accept their lifestyle,
homosexuals need to be provided with as much protection as possible; especially in small units and
tight living conditions experienced in the

Home Invasion Case Summary
This was a significant motion by an informant to supress his subpoena. The motion was brought about
with regards to the limitations of the waiver for confidential informant privilege. The informant was
detained on October 31, 1999 for a home invasion. Subsequently after his apprehension, he gave a
statement to the police connecting three people to the home invasion. The informant pled guilty on
November 25, 1999 in Youth Court. Because of his plea, his declaration implicating the co accused
was never given to his counsel. His counsel discovered that the informant was considered to be a
confidential informant on March 21, 2001. The three suspects were detained on charges involving the

Crown declared that he planned to call the informant as a Crown witness. On February 15, 2001, the

sentence for the home invasion. The officer and his partner, questioned the informant as to where his
mother was living, as they wanted to subpoena her for trial as a material witness. The informant did
not want to tell the police where his mother was living, but specified that he wanted to be subpoenaed
for trial and was discouraged that he had not been subpoenaed by the defence. He stated to the two
officers that he was concerned that his friends would go to jail for something they didn t do. The
officer advised him that if he was subpoenaed, his statements would be disclosed to the three accused.

I attended the University Symphony Orchestra s quot;An Evening of Handel, Schubert, and Haydn
quot; on Thursday, September 30, 2003 in the Daniel Recital Hall. The hall was much more crowded
than I expected. At the beginning of the concert, the orchestra was seated on the stage; the men wore
tuxedos, and the women wore black dresses or pants. The concertmaster came out to tune the
orchestra, and then the conductor made his entrance and gave a brief description of the piece that was
about to be played.
George Frideric Handel s Overture to Music for the Royal Fireworks was composed during the
Baroque era. It has a homophonic texture and its genre is a suite. There is a wide variety of

The melody has an ascending shape as it moves in a crescendo. The fast tempo of this section creates
an exciting and energetic mood. The Lentement section has a slow pace and is played in a minor key.
It is homophonic and in duple meter. The tempo creates a smooth and relaxing mood. This section
features a decrescendo and is conjunct with a relatively narrow range. Finally, the Allegro section is
repeated.
Schubert s Symphony No. 8 in B minor was composed during the Romantic era. The instruments
heard include the trombone, flute, oboe, bassoon members of the aerophone family as well as the
violin, viola, cello, and double bass all chordophones. This piece has an overall homophonic texture.
The genre is a symphony, which is divided into two movements: Allegro moderato and Andante con
moto. The Allegro moderato follows sonata allegro form. There are two themes presented, and the
movement is in triple meter in a minor key. It begins at a soft (piano) dynamic level and grows in a
crescendo. It is generally conjunct with a narrow range that eventually expands into a wide range. The
softness opening creates a dramatic atmosphere filled with emotion. This movement illustrates a
recapitulation the restatement of themes, since the main two themes recur throughout the piece.

Parallelism And The Femme Fatale
Film noir, though difficult to formally define, is a type of film whose elements of style, narrative, and
overall tone are most easily characterized by darkness both literal and metaphorical. This style first
appeared and had its heyday within American Cinema during the forties and fifties. The term itself
was first coined by French critics when, as Paul Schrader described, noticed the new mood of
cynicism, pessimism, and, darkness that had crept into the American cinema (Schrader, 265). Indeed,
films like Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity (1944) and Joseph H. Lewis Gun Crazy (1950) explored
themes of fatalism and nihilism (among others), all the while making use of stylistic expressionist
inspired lighting, stylized framing, use of shadows to enhance them. As dark as these films could be,
almost laughably so when viewed by audiences today, they were meant to communicate the very real
societal anxiety and disillusionment of a post World War Two America. One manifestation of these
fears is through the creation of the femme fatale or fatal woman. According to Jack Boozer, they are
meant to appear beautiful but also treacherous, criminally depraved and castrating in their desires
(Boozer, 21). The femme fatale did not first appear in noir, in fact she even appeared as far back as the
biblical figure Salome, however forties Hollywood defined the character (Barnes Smith, 3). Gary
Harris, as quoted in Fatal Woman, Revisited: Understanding Female Stereotypes in Film Noir,

Autogenics Research Paper
Currently we live in a society where our Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is overworked and
consistently stressed. There are some solutions to help us reverse the stress and get our Para
Sympathetic Nervous System (PSNS) activated when we need to recover. Two such methods are
autogenics and biogenics. These methods are very similar but biogenics uses devices and technology
to achieve the goal of relaxation. Autogenic Therapy, was initially created by the German Neuro
Psychiatrist Dr. Johannes Schultz in the 1920 s and it was subsequently shared with the medical
establishment. Over the next few decades Schultz and his associate, Dr. Wolfgang Luther dedicated
their combined energy over the next few decades, to fine tune Autogenics into the useful ... Show

session of Autogenic training? Did this exercise make you more aware of slight changes in warmth
and heaviness in the body? I found the CD relaxing initially I didn t feel any changes in the warmth or
heaviness in my body. However, by the third session I was able to distinguish a subtle difference in
my limbs that was like a bit a tingling. I am still working at trying to apply the method to everyday
situations. The workbook questions asks me to compare autogenics to other forms of relaxation I have
tried. In another class I learned about meditation and I have been trying to use it fairly often. The
difference between the meditation I used and autogenics is the guidance that the sequence gives you.

Throughout the chapter Moral Disagreement in his work Cosmopolitanism, Kwame
Anthony Appiah analyzes the issues of morality. Appiah essentially presents his argument in a manner
which questions the concept of what is ethically right and wrong. Furthermore, he believes that
societies and individuals will inevitably experience moral disagreements. From the author s
perspective, If we are to encourage...moral conversations between people across societies, we must
expect such disagreements. 1 As demonstrated in the reading, Appiah suggests that on a global scale,
unique societies fail to share the same evaluative language when discussing moral issues. However,
even when different communities share similar terms, the subjective nature of vocabulary allows for
contrasting interpretations. Finally, Appiah illustrates that various cultural groups place different
weights on the same values.
The vocabulary used in numerous parts of the world is quite diverse and multifaceted.
Kwame Anthony Appiah effectively distinguishes the terms thin and thick as words applied to
describe moral disagreement within the text. The author admits that individuals from differing
societies share thin words, yet the lack of depth from this vocabulary results in an insignificant
description of morality. Appiah elaborates on this concept, explaining that [s]ome terms

The Life and Achievements of Harriet Tubman Essay examples
We know her as the Moses of her people; she left a remarkable history on the tracks of the
Underground Railroad that will never be forgotten. Harriet Tubman born into slavery around 1820 in
Dorchester County, Maryland, Harriet Tubman was a nurse, spy, social reformer and a feminist during
a period of economic upheaval in the United States. For people to understand the life of Harriet
Tubman, they should know about her background, her life as a slave, and as a free woman.
The first contribution of Harriet Tubman is that she served as a spy for the union army, because she
wanted freedom for all the people who were forced into slavery not just the people she could help by
herself. One day Tubman took one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The second contribution of Harriet Tubman is that she was a conductor in the Underground Railroad, a
network of antislavery activists who helped slaves escape from the south. On her first trip in 1850,
Tubman bought her sister and her sister s two children out of slavery in Maryland. In 1851, she helped
her brother out of slavery, and in 1857 she returned to Maryland to guide her old parents back to
freedom. Overall Tubman made about nineteen trips to the south and guided about three hundred
slaves to freedom. But during those travels Tubman faced great danger in order not to get caught she
would use disguises and carries a sleeping powder to stop babies from crying and also always carried
a pistol in case one of the people back out once the journey has begun( Strawberry 1).
Even though, Tubman discontinued making trips to the south and also discontinued working in the
union army she was still helping guarantee rights for blacks. After returning to Auburn, New York she
married Nelson Davis and lived in a home on South Street. After settling down there, Tubman helped
Auburn to remain a center of support of women rights. She also built as wooden structure that served

INTRODUCTION
Case Summary
Nestle is best known for its chocolate, coffee (it invented instant coffee) and milk products. Nestle is
the largest beverage and food company in the world, having more than 281000 employees at 500
facilities in 200 countries. They have their headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland; the company has an
annual revenue exceeding $104 billion. The company sells hundreds of products, which are adapted to
fit the market and culture. Nestle allows organization to conduct business as it saw fit, taking into
consideration the local conditions and business culture. To support this decentralized strategy, there
were 80 different information technology units the run 900 IBM AS/400 midrange computers, 15 main
frames and 200 Unix Systems. Nestles management found allowing local difference created
inefficiencies and extra cost that could prevent the company from competing efficiently in e
commerce. Years ago Nestle embarked on a program to standardize and coordinate its information
system and business process. The company initially had SAP SR/3 enterprise resource planning. This
software integrated materials, distribution and accounting applications in Canada, USA and Europe.
Nestle then expanded its enterprise system strategy to all the facilities, that way they act as a single

Containerisation
What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the distribution of
goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for
transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the
container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together
through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit
for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was becoming
larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In 1956, Malcolm McLean
used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock
control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a
greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs?
The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought
that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high
as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply.
(Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation
costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators,
such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the
logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series
of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily
consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods
waiting in warehouses ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments
slow and the delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first time, cargo
could be locked away when in storage. Whiskey was

An Older Brother s Influence in James Baldwin’s Sonny’s Blues
In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, the unspoken brotherly bond between the narrator and his younger
brother Sonny is illustrated through the narrator s point of view. The two brothers have not spoken in
years until the narrator receives a letter from Sonny after his daughter dies. He takes this moment as
an important sign from Sonny and feels the need to respond. While both Sonny and the narrator live in
separate worlds, all Sonny needs is a brother to care for him while the narrator finds himself in the
past eventually learning his role as an older brother. When the narrator and Sonny finally get a chance
to speak to each other after many years, they begin to slowly open up to each other the grim reality
that they face. I said: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows his brother has as problem with drug addiction, but he does not want to see him give up
without a fight. He cares about his brother, which is what Sonny has needed all this time; an older
brother to tell him that he should not give up, that he should make smart decisions and make
something of himself. The narrator is trying to make up for all the time apart that he has spent from
Sonny during his time of need, and perhaps that is his way of making himself feel better about
abandoning his younger brother so many years before. Sonny has had a problem with drugs for some
time, which leads him having to serve a jail sentence. The narrator tries to stay oblivious, which is part
of the reason he turned his back on his younger brother for so many years. I couldn t believe it: but
what I mean by that is that I couldn t find any room for it anywhere inside of me. I had kept it outside
me for a long time. I hadn t wanted to know. I had had suspicions, but I didn t name them, I kept
putting them away (831). The way that he dealt with his younger brother s problems was by turning
his back on them. He knew that Sonny was dealing with heavy problems, but chose to look past them
and live his own life. He also knows that leaving his brother during the time he needed him the most
was wrong of him to do. The narrator goes on to say, I didn t want to believe that I d ever see my

industry. In the restaurant industry the employee turnover rate is between 75 to 80 percent yearly. This
industry includes casual dining, quick service and fine dining. There are some sector in the industry
could have high turnover than others. The work force characteristics in the restaurant industry the
average is fairly young, majority of the workers are under the age of 30, and this influences to the high
turnover. Low compensation is another reason that the turnover rate is high. Hourly restaurant

Social Medi The New Frontier Of Criminal Proceedings
Social Media Social media is moving rapidly towards pervasive connectivity that will have an impact
on how digital search warrants should be granted. The majority of Americans on a daily basis utilize
social media and the vast amount of the exchanged information is beyond measurable. Due to
overwhelming social media usage, there is heightened concern among the public over what can be
accessed by law enforcement officials and what should be the scope of their search warrants. Despite
such concerns, courts haven t issued a definitive ruling distinguishing social media posts from other
electronic communications. The case law is already filled with instances in which the government
obtained social media evidence through a warrant or subpoena directed at a social media company.
Social media evidence is the new frontier of criminal proceedings and it raises unique legal
challenges, including issues of admissibility and a defendant s constitutional rights in material that
social media companies maintain. Federal law provides that in some circumstances, the government
may compel social media companies to produce social media evidence without a warrant. The Stored
Communication Act ( SCA ) governs the ability of governmental entities to compel service providers,
such as Twitter and Facebook, to produce content (e.g., posts and tweets) and non content customer
records (e.g., name and address) in certain circumstances. Even though the SCA has not been amended

The Importance Of Social Justice
Social Justice is a double edge sword. On one side everyone is treated equally and fairly with
sustainable life advantages. There is food, clean water, shelter, health care, education and a living
wage adequate to support and improve families quality of life. On the other side, there is the reality of
economics, war, prejudice, environment, poverty, and political influences. As long as there is
corruption and greed these goals seem impossible to achieve. Food and clean water is a basic necessity
of human life. Access to quality, adequate, affordable food and clean water should be a goal of every
government. However, in many places that is not possible either due to drought or destitution. In some
areas the government uses food to control the population. Many lives are lost due to starvation for no
reason other than lack of government management. Affordable housing should be available to
everyone. There are many opportunities to renovate buildings to accommodate housing. Programs that
give the recipient the opportunity to participate in the process, such as Habitat for Humanity, need to
be supported. This process gives people the pride of ownership. The expense and lack of funding is
the main concern. A plan has to be made to find affordable clean housing.
Health Care is a basic human need and needs to mandatory. Everyone should be entitled to
comprehensive health care, but how is that not only achieved, but also made affordable? There has to

Thirteen years after the birth of Ishmael (Abraham was ninety nine years old), the LORD repeated His
promise to Abraham and made clear that Sarah would bear the child of promise. (Genesis 17 21) The
fact that Abraham fell on his face and laughed is an indication that he did not laugh at God as certain
people have thought; rather, he laughed at the idea of a son being born to a hundred year old man and
a ninety year old woman. That notion, from the human perspective, was laughable; nonetheless, he
accepted it. Abraham s laugh was not a mocking or sneering act, but one of doubt concerning such an

Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) refers to a
variety of conditions in which a chronic immune response and inflammation occur throughout the
gastrointestinal tract. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are triggered by an abnormal response by the
body s immune system. In a normal functioning immune system, the cells protect the body from
infection. However, in those who are suffering from IBD, the immune system mistakes bacteria, food,
and other materials in the intestine as foreign substances and attack the cells in the intestines. As an
immune response, the body sends white blood cells to the lining of the intestines, ultimately causing a
chronic inflammation and the patient then experiences a variety of symptoms.
Symptoms of an IBD can vary, depending on the severity and location of the inflammation. Common
symptoms of an inflammatory bowel disease include abdominal pain and cramping that usually
disappear after a bowel movement, constipation or difficulty passing stool, diarrhea, fever,
gastrointestinal bleeding, gurgling or splashing sound heard over the intestine, nausea and vomiting,
pain in the joints, and undesired weight loss. Since these symptoms can indicate a number of possible
diseases, it can be difficult to determine the correct diagnoses. The two main types of IBD are Crohn s
Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, but determining a patient s exact diagnoses can be challenging.

Aktion T4 Euthanasia
In order to understand Germany s widespread acceptance of the 1933 Law for Prevention of
Hereditarily Diseased Offspring and the subsequent implementation of the T4 euthanasia program in
1939, it is necessary to discuss the scientific origins of eugenics. Within this discussion a distinction
must also be made between genetics and eugenics. The study of genetics was founded by German
scientist, Gregor Mendel, in the years 1856 to 1863. Although the importance of Mendel s work was
not realized until sixteen years after his death in 1884, he continues to be credited for his pea plant

In order to give it the appearance of a wartime measure, he backdated it to September 1, 1939, the
start date of World War 11. In doing so, he anticipated that public fears of a national crisis would
amass support for his euthanasia program. His plans to eliminate life unworthy of life were first
developed and administered from the Fuhrer s address Tiergartenstrasse 4, under the code name
Aktion T4. This directive involved much of the German psychiatric community and was lead by some
of the nations most creditable physicians. The president of the German Red Cross and SS head
surgeon Dr. Ernst Robert Grawitz, worked alongside Hitlers chancellery Chief Philip Buhler, his
deputy director Victor Brack, and his personal physician Dr. Brandt. Each of these men were charged,
with the responsibility for increasing the authority of physicians to be designated by name, to the end
that patients considered incurable according to the best available human judgment of their state health
can be granted a mercy death. The T4 measure was further extended when psychiatric professor,
Werner Hyde and some other senior psychiatrists, joined the program. Under the guidance of these
psychiatrist a program was developed to identify the psychiatric institutions, hospitals, and homes,
that held chronically ill patients. Once identified the life or death of a patient was left at the discretion
of these medical practitioners. It is also important to note that death was not equally distributed,
patients economic status was a determining factor in their right to life; individuals unable to or able to

Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking has been hailed as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert
Einstein. Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, which as he likes to point out is the 300th
anniversary of Galileo s death. Hawking originally studied at Oxford University in England studying
physics even though he would have preferred math. He moved onto Cambridge University to work on
his PhD in cosmology. Hawking s career has focused upon the cosmic entities known as black holes,
and has extended to specialized areas such as quantum gravity, particle physics, and supersymmetry. A
field of study that Stephen Hawking is known for is cosmology. Cosmology is the metaphysical study
of the origin and nature of the universe. A brief synopsis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Wikipedia 2005) More recently, scientists at NASA think that they may have developed a way to
view proof of Quantum Gravity, if it does indeed exist. This year, NASA is scheduled to launch their
Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), which ...may be able to detect for the first time
the effects of quantum gravity in the speed of gamma ray burst photons... (Wanjek 2005) Two
scientists as NASA s Goddard Space Flight Center theorize that the gamma ray bursts which will be
detected by GLAST might possibly be ...powerful enough and distant enough to see the highest of the
high energy photons traveling slightly more slowly than lower energy photons, weighed down by the
effect of quantum gravity. (Wanjek 2005) Only time will tell, but one thing is certain; Hawking and
other Quantum Gravity researchers will be keeping their eyes peeled for the results. In the 1970 s
Hawking proposed that during the big bang, 13.7 billion years ago, local pockets of the Universe
could have been dense enough and under enough pressure to form small black holes. According to his
theory, these primordial black holes could have had masses as large as the Earth or as small as a single
raindrop. (Freedman, 2005) Basically, he believes that the beginning of real time was a singularity and
all of the matter in the Universe would have been on top of

Analysis Of The Little Mermaid
Loved by many Disney fanatics, The Little Mermaid is a classic fairy tale about a young mermaid who
gives up her tail and voice for legs and a chance to be with the prince she loves. Where the film differs
from the original classic is its ending, where the little mermaid turns into ocean foam after the prince
marries a different woman instead of the happy ending of Ariel and Prince Eric. The original tale has
multiple meaning that can be interpreted through the 4 different lenses, allowing the young reader to
learn what is expected of him or her.
The reader s response towards this short story is that if you truly love someone, you shouldn t be
afraid to let them go. When the little mermaid finally turns 15 and is able to go out to see the ... Show

On the other hand, she loves the prince and can t bare to see him in pain. The Little Mermaid decides,
loving the prince too much to end his life, to drown herself in the ocean, becoming one with the foam.
From this act, we learn that if we truly love someone, we shouldn t be selfish and kept them to
yourself. We should give them up, allowing them to live their own life. Whether or not they return the
feelings, the child learns that to love someone deeply, you be willing to sacrifice your feelings and let
the person walk their own path in order for them to be truly happy.
Through the lenses of Bettelheim psychologists, a childhood fear that can be observed here is the fear
of not having one s love be reciprocated. The Little Mermaid s choice to give up her tail was not made
without thought. When she ventures out to visit the witch in order to become human, she becomes
paralyzed with fear seeing the moving polypi grab hold of their unfortunate victims, taking hold of
them forever. She begins doubting herself, questioning if it s even worth it and nearly turns back, only
stopping when she thinks about her life with the prince. Throughout the process of the deal making,
the young mermaid begins to regret her actions. When the witch mentions the pains she ll feel when
she gains her legs, the little mermaid responds in a trembling voice (ℙ. 41). The thoughts of living her
life in excruciating pain for the rest of her life

The Curious Night-Time
The book I will be arguing about is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark
Haddon. This novel is about a boy named Christopher who is different from average people, meaning
he is autistic, he lives with his father and his mother is supposedly dead. His mission is to ascertain
who murdered Wellington , neighbor s dog, and throughout the book he revealed things he was not
supposed to know about. As you read you notice the challenges he has to face in order to get to where
he wants to be and how not everyone lives in a perfect home. Christopher s protected life at home and
childhood significantly constrains his ability to deal with the world around him because his father kept
important and life changing secrets from him, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the text it states, I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit
me or touch me and I do not not know what is going to happen (Haddon 4). Our society does not act
like this towards other people, thus this validates that he is not ordinary. Being irregular is arduous for
him to go out into public, when he got off the train Toby ran onto the tracks and Christopher went after
him. Little did he know a train was coming so a man off the side saved him and yelled at him for his
foolishness. However Christopher did mention what kind of school he attends, I m the first person to
do an A level from my school because it s a special school (Haddon 56). Haddon revealed that he is
divergent from society by stating he goes to a special school. To conclude, Christopher is special in his
own way by his behavior and what school he attends. Christopher s protected life at home and
childhood significantly constrains his ability to deal with the world around him because his father is
deceitful, he tried to get to his mother and he is unique like others in his school. Christopher s father
kept confidential information from him like executing the neighbors dog and concealing his mother
from him. He set out on a journey to obtain his mother, on this expedition it shows Christopher s true
self and how humanity looks upon him. To this extent

PK Script
The topics I will be discussing today in my PK are the terms allegory and ambivalence and interesting
points from Amanda Ripley s book, The Smartest Kids in the World and how the got that way. By the
end of all 20 slides, I hope that the pieces information fit together to give you a better understanding
of the following topics.
The noun allegory can be a piece of literature or art that unveils a hidden value such as a moral or
political message. When we look at the Statue of Liberty she symbolizes the light that guided us
towards our nation s freedom. Although the Statue of liberty is a rather obvious political allegory...
We commonly overlook or forget the morals that were hidden in some of our favorite childhood tales.
As the Lorax once said, Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, nothing is going to get better. It s
not. small allegories like these taught us our first morals that we would need for the rest of our lives. ...

Analysis of The Decline of the West
The subject of capitalism is one very thoroughly discussed, and opinions are wide spread. Some
believe it to be the root of all evil, while others merely choose to see it as an inevitable part of
progress, one we might as well enjoy. After all, has living not become much easier since, say, the
beginning of the industrialised age? Everyone can afford materialistic goods and no one is forced to
starve. The question is, however, whether it is too good to be true, and recently, with the deep financial
crises, many have come to face the fact that everything, even capitalism itself, comes with a price.
Mike, a hardworking father of two, and the main character of Hanif Kureishi s short story The Decline
of the West from 2010, is an example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title reflects this as well. By The Decline of the West he refers not to the economy or the financial
crash, but to the emotional decline of individuals and the way family is becoming secondary to money
and the next piece of technology. As the author is the son of a Pakistani father, this observation and
focus on the lessening importance with which family relations are viewed, is not surprising; in
Pakistan and many other Middle Eastern countries, family is of much importance, and to be close knit
is considered not only normal, but expected. It would be only natural if Hanif Kureishi has been
influenced by his father, and the short story is without a doubt marked by this heritage as

Law To Vaccinate Parents
We want to believe we are invincible and that nothing can touch our children. We have access to the
best medical care. Many of the deadly diseases that swept through communities have now been
eradicated due to vaccination. This quotation was written by a woman named Linda Anderson. When
her son was only a few months old, he did of a vaccine preventable disease. If you were to ask her, she
would implore you to vaccinate her children. She suffered a loss that no parent should ever have to
endure. Parents should be required by law to vaccinate their children because the argument against it
(regarding autism) is invalid, they keep children from getting and spreading preventable, and
sometimes dangerous diseases, and they prevent loss of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Smallpox is one example of a diseases that could be deadly to a small child that contracts it. If a baby
catches an illness that bad, he or she does not have a strong enough immune system yet and there is a
great chance the child won t make it. Like I mentioned before, Linda Anderson lost her baby due to a
vaccine preventable disease. No parent should have to suffer a loss like that. The saddest part is, there
are many other stories out there just like Linda s. A very young child catches a disease, their immune
system isn t strong enough to fight it, the child doesn t make it. It s absolutely horrible. Another
mother, Karen Alpert, says in an entry on her blog, BabySideburns, she understands that parents
would do whatever they can do protect their child, but children need to be vaccinated. In the blog, she
talks about how she doesn t want her children to catch a preventable disease just because some parents
think they know better than doctors.
The argument can be made that vaccines have ingredients that can be harmful to small children.
However, these ingredients are given in such small doses that they just help the child build up an
immunity to them and to the disease the vaccine is made to prevent so they won t catch chickenpox or
smallpox. Parents would know this is they looked at how much of each ingredient the vaccines

The Truth About SARS Essay
The Truth About SARS
People in general are both fascinated and paranoid of the onset of new infectious diseases. While films
such as Outbreak are smash hits at the box office, when an actual disease becomes apparent people
often react with a kind of mass hysteria. Last year, a new illness reared its evil head. While the name
SARS has become fairly well known, the actual facts behind the illness are not as widely talked about.
SARS is an acronym for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The illness usually first becomes
evident with a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, general malaise, and body aches. This
adds to the difficulty of identifying SARS; the general signs of the illness are so similar to more
common ailments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists have detected a previously unrecognized coronavirus in SARS patients, and this has become
the leading hypothesis for the cause of SARS. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that, when viewed
under a powerful microscope, have a halo or crown like (hence corona) appearance. Viruses under
these headings are known to commonly cause mild to moderate upper respiratory illness in humans. In
animals, coronaviruses are associated with respiratory, gastrointestinal, liver, and neurological
diseases. Also, new ways to detect SARS have been discovered. Serologic testing for the SARS
syndrome can be performed using indirect fluorescent antibodies or enzyme linked immunosorbent
assays that are specific for the antibody that was produced after infection. A reverse transcriptase
polymerase chain reaction (known as RT PCR) test can also detect SARS in specimens such as serum,
stool, and nasal secretions. Also, viral cultures and isolation have been used to detect SARS lt; 1

While many conclusions have been drawn about SARS, such as its incubation period and symptoms,
the unknowns concerning the syndrome remain unsettling. The fear that people have concerning the
syndrome is not unwarranted. According to the World Health Organization, as of June 5, 2003, an
estimated 8,403 cases have been reported with a total of 775 deaths attributed to the syndrome lt; 2

Security Social Reform (SSR)
Security Sector Reform, or SSR, is a type of governmental assistance in which another country
supplies helpful support in the democratic direction. An example of this would be in Egypt when the
United States Government helped develop their democracy. This sector also helps those who are used
to being at war find places amongst society and be able to live their lives working a full time job,
rather than a rebel outpost. The SSR uses the help of the citizens currently in place to form the
democracy. In this sense, they do not go into the country and do anything. The SSR is assisting those
who are already there. The following is a synopsis of the SSR and how it could help, and possibly has
helped, the world. West Africa, a sometimes highly dangerous place, was subject to SSR attempts to
help. The SSR is currently trying to find the sources of threat, which are, as Adedeji Ebo states, ...it is
evident that the sources of threat are often internal and that the targets/victims are not merely states
and security forces. (Ebo). The SSR is still trying to help the government and to some degree it has
been successful. Another case was in Iraq, when the Iraqi government had problems as Arnold
Luethold states, However, the Coalition Provisional Authority s (CPA) decision to dissolve all the
forces, including the police forces, without prior consultation with Iraqis, has met considerable
criticism in Iraq and abroad, for it was perceived to undermine Iraq s stability. (Luethold).

Chemistry Advances in Computers with the Work of...
Chemistry and technology has allowed so many advancements in today s society. It has allowed us to
have faster computers, better displays, bigger hard disks(hard drives),and it gives us the ability to
work, to create, and to play. The main focus point of my research is how chemistry has advanced
computers with the work of transistors. A transistor is a semiconductor device that can amplify, control
and generate electrical signals. Transistors look like integrated circuts. They are placed in micro
processors, known as the heart of a micro processor. As times go on transistors decrease in size and
increase in capability.
What was society like before the discovery of your technology? The discovery of transistors has been
around ever since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How is your technolgyaffecting society today? In my opinion technology is having a negative affect
on society. You walk into resturants and you see a family everyone of their faces shoved into a phone.
But on the flip side it can be a positive affect. You see what all transistors do in all sorts of technology.
You have computers with games that look as if they are real life. Like if you were living in the right
part of the world you could look outside your window and see the same thing you are seeing and
hearing on the screen. You have an iPod that can fit in the palm of your hand yet it can hold tens of
thousands of songs. That is enough to play for a whole year! Technologly has come so far with it s
pros and cons of the world affect to all the advancements. You can have the world at your fingertips,
as long as you do not have a flip phone. But if you had an iPhone you could hold music, apps, and
much much more.
In your opinion, what impact will your technonly have on the future? In my opinion the future of
technolog wil have both a positive and negative affect, the same as what technology is doing now. The
technology of transistors will continue to have society in awe of what ever new product will come out
next. They will become friends with who ever gets the new product first. We will ask for the things for
christmas and boast about it too all of our friends. Because we have most storage for all of our stuff.

The Five Arguments For The Existence Of God
The evaluation of the five arguments made clear that a perfect being, God, must exist in all possible
circumstances in order to satisfy the definition of perfection. The Argument from Motion, The
Argument from Efficient Cause, The Argument to Necessary Being, The Argument from Gradation,
and The Argument from Design are considered the five ways Thomas acknowledge if God does or
does not existence. Through reading Aquinas s work, it is hard to determine which one proves that
God does or does not exist. Logically, each argument can be denied or accepted. Consequently, people
can choose to believe whatever they want. However, it is a personal belief that The Argument from
Necessity is the most agreeable at this time. The other four arguments do not provide relevance to why
people die if God is perfect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The contradiction lies in the other four arguments because no one can truly prove if God exist or that

understanding of what we want God to be in our minds. Aquinas also claims, ...objects in the world
come into existence and pass away is what determined a sound logic for the student writer (Thomas
Aquinas, The Five Ways , 2012). These are the facts, people are born, they live and they die. Clearly,
despite the methods that lead to our deaths. One can only believe that people are considered objects in

Essay about Corruption in Politics
When it comes to corruption in politics, no one is immune. Both parties have had their share. Not too
long ago three members of Congress who are Republican were indicted due to political and financial
scandals (Wallis, 2012). Two are currently under investigation and one is in prison (Wallis, 2012). Part
of the problem in these corruption scandals involves the ability of interest groups to determine policy
as well as pork barrel spending (Wallis, 2012). While corruption takes place at all levels of
government, it has been particularly noticeable in the U.S. Congress. In the United States, there are
two Senators elected from each state and numerous Congressmen who comprise the United States

Separation Of North America Essay
America s constitutional order is designed along the same concepts as the covenants used by colonial
settlers when creating religious settlements. While America s government would later emphasis the
separation of church and state, the foundation of the documents largely draws from the structure and
principles highlighted in early colonial documents used in the creation of religiously oriented
settlements. As the number of settlements grew, loose structures were developed to govern multiple
settlements. Ultimately, the American system incorporated numerous layers of government in a federal

  • 2. Essay on Don t Ask, Don t Tell Imagine being in the heat of war, a place where trust is needed most. Imagine, however, that in the heat of war you cannot trust your fellow soldier because of personal tensions within the unit. It was this problem that the policy known as Don t Ask, Don t Tell was designed to avoid, the tension caused between soldiers when homosexuals are serving openly. Without this policy, homosexuals serving openly could create tension that interferes with the military s effectiveness. While it may not be obvious at first, the policy of Don t Ask Don t Tell actually supports the both values of the military and the rights of homosexuals. As a result, Don t Ask Don t Tell is needed to protect homosexual service members and is crucial in securing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This policy was created to secure the military s effectiveness but also to protect homosexuals. Without Don t Ask Don t Tell homosexuals are subject to more discrimination and abuse. Don t Ask Don t Tell protects homosexuals from the most harmful situations. A large number of the military members join at a young age, shortly after graduating from high school. They are often from small towns and conservative backgrounds, and as a result they have less exposure to the homosexual lifestyle (Beattie). This means the majority of incoming soldiers may not be as accepting towards homosexuals, which could result in harassment and abuse. The Winchell Case is a good example of what could happen if an open policy is enacted (Walke). In 1999, Private Barry Winchell was killed by another soldier. An investigation revealed that Winchell s fellow officers had discovered he was homosexual and had been harassing him for months before the fatal assault. If Winchell s superiors had followed the current policy, than he would have been removed from the unit and might have escaped unharmed (Walke). Without Don t Ask Don t Tell these types of situations could occur very easily. Because many people cannot accept their lifestyle, homosexuals need to be provided with as much protection as possible; especially in small units and tight living conditions experienced in the ... • 3. Home Invasion Case Summary This was a significant motion by an informant to supress his subpoena. The motion was brought about with regards to the limitations of the waiver for confidential informant privilege. The informant was detained on October 31, 1999 for a home invasion. Subsequently after his apprehension, he gave a statement to the police connecting three people to the home invasion. The informant pled guilty on November 25, 1999 in Youth Court. Because of his plea, his declaration implicating the co accused was never given to his counsel. His counsel discovered that the informant was considered to be a confidential informant on March 21, 2001. The three suspects were detained on charges involving the home invasion in 2000. Their initial inquiry was held in April ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that point, the Crown provided the defence counsels the original statement from the informant. The Crown declared that he planned to call the informant as a Crown witness. On February 15, 2001, the officer in charge went to the house where the informant was serving his open custody portion of his sentence for the home invasion. The officer and his partner, questioned the informant as to where his mother was living, as they wanted to subpoena her for trial as a material witness. The informant did not want to tell the police where his mother was living, but specified that he wanted to be subpoenaed for trial and was discouraged that he had not been subpoenaed by the defence. He stated to the two officers that he was concerned that his friends would go to jail for something they didn t do. The officer advised him that if he was subpoenaed, his statements would be disclosed to the three accused. The informant responded to the officer by responding, Whatever . • 4. Jazz Report Essay I attended the University Symphony Orchestra s quot;An Evening of Handel, Schubert, and Haydn quot; on Thursday, September 30, 2003 in the Daniel Recital Hall. The hall was much more crowded than I expected. At the beginning of the concert, the orchestra was seated on the stage; the men wore tuxedos, and the women wore black dresses or pants. The concertmaster came out to tune the orchestra, and then the conductor made his entrance and gave a brief description of the piece that was about to be played. George Frideric Handel s Overture to Music for the Royal Fireworks was composed during the Baroque era. It has a homophonic texture and its genre is a suite. There is a wide variety of instruments (aerophones, chordophones, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melody has an ascending shape as it moves in a crescendo. The fast tempo of this section creates an exciting and energetic mood. The Lentement section has a slow pace and is played in a minor key. It is homophonic and in duple meter. The tempo creates a smooth and relaxing mood. This section features a decrescendo and is conjunct with a relatively narrow range. Finally, the Allegro section is repeated. Schubert s Symphony No. 8 in B minor was composed during the Romantic era. The instruments heard include the trombone, flute, oboe, bassoon members of the aerophone family as well as the violin, viola, cello, and double bass all chordophones. This piece has an overall homophonic texture. The genre is a symphony, which is divided into two movements: Allegro moderato and Andante con moto. The Allegro moderato follows sonata allegro form. There are two themes presented, and the movement is in triple meter in a minor key. It begins at a soft (piano) dynamic level and grows in a crescendo. It is generally conjunct with a narrow range that eventually expands into a wide range. The softness opening creates a dramatic atmosphere filled with emotion. This movement illustrates a recapitulation the restatement of themes, since the main two themes recur throughout the piece. Joseph Haydn s Symphony No. 94 in G major ( quot;Surprise quot;) was composed during the Classical era. It is a symphony with a generally homophonic texture. This particular ... • 5. Parallelism And The Femme Fatale Film noir, though difficult to formally define, is a type of film whose elements of style, narrative, and overall tone are most easily characterized by darkness both literal and metaphorical. This style first appeared and had its heyday within American Cinema during the forties and fifties. The term itself was first coined by French critics when, as Paul Schrader described, noticed the new mood of cynicism, pessimism, and, darkness that had crept into the American cinema (Schrader, 265). Indeed, films like Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity (1944) and Joseph H. Lewis Gun Crazy (1950) explored themes of fatalism and nihilism (among others), all the while making use of stylistic expressionist inspired lighting, stylized framing, use of shadows to enhance them. As dark as these films could be, almost laughably so when viewed by audiences today, they were meant to communicate the very real societal anxiety and disillusionment of a post World War Two America. One manifestation of these fears is through the creation of the femme fatale or fatal woman. According to Jack Boozer, they are meant to appear beautiful but also treacherous, criminally depraved and castrating in their desires (Boozer, 21). The femme fatale did not first appear in noir, in fact she even appeared as far back as the biblical figure Salome, however forties Hollywood defined the character (Barnes Smith, 3). • 6. Autogenics Research Paper Currently we live in a society where our Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) is overworked and consistently stressed. There are some solutions to help us reverse the stress and get our Para Sympathetic Nervous System (PSNS) activated when we need to recover. Two such methods are autogenics and biogenics. These methods are very similar but biogenics uses devices and technology to achieve the goal of relaxation. Autogenic Therapy, was initially created by the German Neuro Psychiatrist Dr. Johannes Schultz in the 1920 s and it was subsequently shared with the medical establishment. Over the next few decades Schultz and his associate, Dr. Wolfgang Luther dedicated their combined energy over the next few decades, to fine tune Autogenics into the useful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used the CD provide by our textbook to try out the Augenics sequence a few times to begin to get a feel of how I could benefit from the practice. Furthermore, I used our stress management workbook questions to evaluate my responses: What were your first impressions when completing the audio session of Autogenic training? Did this exercise make you more aware of slight changes in warmth and heaviness in the body? I found the CD relaxing initially I didn t feel any changes in the warmth or heaviness in my body. However, by the third session I was able to distinguish a subtle difference in my limbs that was like a bit a tingling. I am still working at trying to apply the method to everyday situations. The workbook questions asks me to compare autogenics to other forms of relaxation I have tried. In another class I learned about meditation and I have been trying to use it fairly often. The difference between the meditation I used and autogenics is the guidance that the sequence gives you. Autogenics makes you more aware of your body and it s functions. My mediation is done to music without words or directions it relaxes my mind but I think the cues from Autogenics have the potential to be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Illusion Of Universal Morality The Illusion of Universal Morality Darian Scherbluk OOOOOOO SCS 1150 Professor Stuart Chambers November 17th, 2015. 1 Throughout the chapter Moral Disagreement in his work Cosmopolitanism, Kwame Anthony Appiah analyzes the issues of morality. Appiah essentially presents his argument in a manner which questions the concept of what is ethically right and wrong. Furthermore, he believes that societies and individuals will inevitably experience moral disagreements. From the author s perspective, If we are to encourage...moral conversations between people across societies, we must expect such disagreements. 1 As demonstrated in the reading, Appiah suggests that on a global scale, unique societies fail to share the same evaluative language when discussing moral issues. However, even when different communities share similar terms, the subjective nature of vocabulary allows for contrasting interpretations. Finally, Appiah illustrates that various cultural groups place different weights on the same values. The vocabulary used in numerous parts of the world is quite diverse and multifaceted. Kwame Anthony Appiah effectively distinguishes the terms thin and thick as words applied to describe moral disagreement within the text. The author admits that individuals from differing societies share thin words, yet the lack of depth from this vocabulary results in an insignificant description of morality. Appiah elaborates on this concept, explaining that [s]ome terms good, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Life and Achievements of Harriet Tubman Essay examples We know her as the Moses of her people; she left a remarkable history on the tracks of the Underground Railroad that will never be forgotten. Harriet Tubman born into slavery around 1820 in Dorchester County, Maryland, Harriet Tubman was a nurse, spy, social reformer and a feminist during a period of economic upheaval in the United States. For people to understand the life of Harriet Tubman, they should know about her background, her life as a slave, and as a free woman. • 10. Containerisation What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the distribution of goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was becoming larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In 1956, Malcolm McLean used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs? The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods waiting in warehouses ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments slow and the delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first time, cargo could be locked away when in storage. Whiskey was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of Americans on a daily basis utilize social media and the vast amount of the exchanged information is beyond measurable. Due to overwhelming social media usage, there is heightened concern among the public over what can be accessed by law enforcement officials and what should be the scope of their search warrants. Despite such concerns, courts haven t issued a definitive ruling distinguishing social media posts from other electronic communications. The case law is already filled with instances in which the government obtained social media evidence through a warrant or subpoena directed at a social media company. Social media evidence is the new frontier of criminal proceedings and it raises unique legal challenges, including issues of admissibility and a defendant s constitutional rights in material that social media companies maintain. Federal law provides that in some circumstances, the government may compel social media companies to produce social media evidence without a warrant. • 17. Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) refers to a variety of conditions in which a chronic immune response and inflammation occur throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are triggered by an abnormal response by the body s immune system. In a normal functioning immune system, the cells protect the body from infection. However, in those who are suffering from IBD, the immune system mistakes bacteria, food, and other materials in the intestine as foreign substances and attack the cells in the intestines. As an immune response, the body sends white blood cells to the lining of the intestines, ultimately causing a chronic inflammation and the patient then experiences a variety of symptoms. Symptoms of an IBD can vary, depending on the severity and location of the inflammation. Common symptoms of an inflammatory bowel disease include abdominal pain and cramping that usually disappear after a bowel movement, constipation or difficulty passing stool, diarrhea, fever, gastrointestinal bleeding, gurgling or splashing sound heard over the intestine, nausea and vomiting, pain in the joints, and undesired weight loss. Since these symptoms can indicate a number of possible diseases, it can be difficult to determine the correct diagnoses. The two main types of IBD are Crohn s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, but determining a patient s exact diagnoses can be challenging. Although Crohn s Disease and Ulcerative ... His plans to eliminate life unworthy of life were first developed and administered from the Fuhrer s address Tiergartenstrasse 4, under the code name Aktion T4. This directive involved much of the German psychiatric community and was lead by some of the nations most creditable physicians. The president of the German Red Cross and SS head surgeon Dr. Ernst Robert Grawitz, worked alongside Hitlers chancellery Chief Philip Buhler, his deputy director Victor Brack, and his personal physician Dr. Brandt. A reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (known as RT PCR) test can also detect SARS in specimens such as serum, stool, and nasal secretions. Also, viral cultures and isolation have been used to detect SARS lt; 1 1)yahoo.com. While many conclusions have been drawn about SARS, such as its incubation period and symptoms, the unknowns concerning the syndrome remain unsettling. The fear that people have concerning the syndrome is not unwarranted. According to the World Health Organization, as of June 5, 2003, an estimated 8,403 cases have been reported with a total of 775 deaths attributed to the syndrome lt; 2 2)world health organization. • 28. Security Social Reform (SSR) Security Sector Reform, or SSR, is a type of governmental assistance in which another country supplies helpful support in the democratic direction. An example of this would be in Egypt when the United States Government helped develop their democracy. This sector also helps those who are used to being at war find places amongst society and be able to live their lives working a full time job, rather than a rebel outpost. The SSR uses the help of the citizens currently in place to form the democracy. In this sense, they do not go into the country and do anything. The SSR is assisting those who are already there. The following is a synopsis of the SSR and how it could help, and possibly has helped, the world. West Africa, a sometimes highly dangerous place, was subject to SSR attempts to help. The SSR is currently trying to find the sources of threat, which are, as Adedeji Ebo states, ...it is evident that the sources of threat are often internal and that the targets/victims are not merely states and security forces. (Ebo). The SSR is still trying to help the government and to some degree it has been successful. Another case was in Iraq, when the Iraqi government had problems as Arnold Luethold states, However, the Coalition Provisional Authority s (CPA) decision to dissolve all the forces, including the police forces, without prior consultation with Iraqis, has met considerable criticism in Iraq and abroad, for it was perceived to undermine Iraq s stability. • 29. Chemistry Advances in Computers with the Work of... Chemistry and technology has allowed so many advancements in today s society. It has allowed us to have faster computers, better displays, bigger hard disks(hard drives),and it gives us the ability to work, to create, and to play. The main focus point of my research is how chemistry has advanced computers with the work of transistors. A transistor is a semiconductor device that can amplify, control and generate electrical signals. Transistors look like integrated circuts. They are placed in micro processors, known as the heart of a micro processor. As times go on transistors decrease in size and increase in capability. What was society like before the discovery of your technology? The discovery of transistors has been around ever since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How is your technolgyaffecting society today? In my opinion technology is having a negative affect on society. You walk into resturants and you see a family everyone of their faces shoved into a phone. But on the flip side it can be a positive affect. You see what all transistors do in all sorts of technology. You have computers with games that look as if they are real life. Like if you were living in the right part of the world you could look outside your window and see the same thing you are seeing and hearing on the screen. You have an iPod that can fit in the palm of your hand yet it can hold tens of thousands of songs. That is enough to play for a whole year! Technologly has come so far with it s pros and cons of the world affect to all the advancements. You can have the world at your fingertips, as long as you do not have a flip phone. But if you had an iPhone you could hold music, apps, and much much more. In your opinion, what impact will your technonly have on the future? In my opinion the future of technolog wil have both a positive and negative affect, the same as what technology is doing now. The technology of transistors will continue to have society in awe of what ever new product will come out next. They will become friends with who ever gets the new product first. We will ask for the things for christmas and boast about it too all of our friends. Because we have most storage for all of our stuff. Transistors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Five Arguments For The Existence Of God The evaluation of the five arguments made clear that a perfect being, God, must exist in all possible circumstances in order to satisfy the definition of perfection. The Argument from Motion, The Argument from Efficient Cause, The Argument to Necessary Being, The Argument from Gradation, and The Argument from Design are considered the five ways Thomas acknowledge if God does or does not existence. Through reading Aquinas s work, it is hard to determine which one proves that God does or does not exist. Logically, each argument can be denied or accepted. Consequently, people can choose to believe whatever they want. However, it is a personal belief that The Argument from Necessity is the most agreeable at this time. The other four arguments do not provide relevance to why people die if God is perfect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contradiction lies in the other four arguments because no one can truly prove if God exist or that God is perfect. Therefore, leading to the belief that the very nature of God appears to be a subjective understanding of what we want God to be in our minds. Aquinas also claims, ...objects in the world come into existence and pass away is what determined a sound logic for the student writer (Thomas Aquinas, The Five Ways , 2012). • 31. Essay about Corruption in Politics When it comes to corruption in politics, no one is immune. Both parties have had their share. Not too long ago three members of Congress who are Republican were indicted due to political and financial scandals (Wallis, 2012). Two are currently under investigation and one is in prison (Wallis, 2012). Part of the problem in these corruption scandals involves the ability of interest groups to determine policy as well as pork barrel spending (Wallis, 2012). While corruption takes place at all levels of government, it has been particularly noticeable in the U.S. Congress. In the United States, there are two Senators elected from each state and numerous Congressmen who comprise the United States Congress. Of those elected, there have been ... Is he correct? Is he allowed to accept gifts if in fact they do not influence his decisions? The general rule is as follows: Senate ethics rules generally allow lawmakers to accept gifts from federal, state or local governments, but specifically warn against taking such gifts particularly on multiple occasions when they might be connected to efforts to influence official actions (Solomon, 2011). While perhaps the Senator was within the law in accepting the gifts, certainly it has the appearance of impropriety. In the manual, examples are provided as to what is not acceptable, such as a time when an Oregon lawmaker took gifts for personal use from the president of the South Carolina State University (Solomon, 2011). The school was trying to exert its influence (Solomon, 2011). What do the experts say? While America s government would later emphasis the separation of church and state, the foundation of the documents largely draws from the structure and principles highlighted in early colonial documents used in the creation of religiously oriented settlements. As the number of settlements grew, loose structures were developed to govern multiple settlements. Ultimately, the American system incorporated numerous layers of government in a federal system (Dehart 2017). A major motivator for migration to North America was the concept of religious freedom.
