Separating the Flames of Reality Essay
In Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use, Wangero could have thought: Ashes to Ashes. Dust to
Dust. Once the house burned, it, and its history is dead lost in the flames the joy in a new start, a new
life, a new name must have made Wangero want to dance around the ashes (66) of the house. Dee did
in fact change her name to Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo. When her mother asked her why she didn t
use her name anymore Wangero answered: She s dead, I couldn t bear it any longer being named after
the people who oppress me. (68) `She died in the same fire that burned down the house I suppose. So,
like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Dee was reborn as Wangero. However, the night of the fire a
flame of conflict was born for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the separation between Maggie (and her mother) and Dee is also symbolically the
separation between Wangero (fantasy) and Maggie (reality).
The same objects that her mother and Maggie use everyday, Wangero wants to use artistically. The
butter churn top she will use as a centerpiece for the alcove table, (69) but the quilts Wangero wants to
Hang them As if that was the only thing you could do with quilts. (70) But of course Maggie can t
appreciate these quilts! She d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use. (70)
Consequently, the choice is between having objects just for show, or using the objects for what they
were made.
For the mother, the choice is not easy. The illusion of Wangero appears as a dream where the mother
says she is a hundred pounds lighter, my skin like an uncooked barley pancake (65) her hair glistening
in the lights. She dreams she has a quick and witty tongue. (65) Who wouldn t wish for such a dream
to be real? But the reality is that she is like Maggie always with one foot raised in flight. (65) Maggie
s mother is a large, big boned woman. (65) She is not conventionally beautiful. The

Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism
In chapter three Weber presents the final drawback between the Protestant ethic and the spirit of
capitalism. As previously mentioned, Weber also introduced the idea of a calling to worldly pursuits.
As he describes in this chapter, Lutheranism has a divinely sanctioned place in the world, but for the
first time the question of how well one performed and their role became significant. Conversely,
Weber does not consider that belief in a calling is adequate to explain the spirit of capitalism. With this
in mind, a calling can adhere to traditionalism since it implies that an individual should assume their
position in society without further motiviation to become more. Catholicism after all was the basis for
the traditional worldview. As an

I Am The Goddess Of Death
I haven t witnessed any other devil in any round of peg, except my wife, in my previous experience.
But what s this?!
Sam! Are you able to catch the sight of anyone in front of my chair? I asked with a shivering voice.
Yeah! It smells a little fishy, Sam answered.
Oh! So, it s not a devil. It s just a human being.
What are you talking? I questioned her seriously.
I will explain. But, you must not show any sort of fear.
I boasted, Nothing in this world can horrify me. I don t even have any fear in front of my wife.
Tell us. What s the matter? Sam asked.

Structural Weakness And The Hull Of The Titanic
Structural Weakness in the Hull of the Titanic
Abstract
This document will explore the structural weakness in the hull of the RMS Titanic. I will also explore
the background information and different types of modern day steels compared to that of the hull of
the RMS Titanic. After research, I will report these events and my findings in formal report format.
All the information I find about the weaknesses of the hull will be reported using information from a
number of sources. They will be referenced using the Harvard referencing system in the document.
They will be used and referenced from in chronological order in the typical report style format. The
references will be listed in alphabetical order at the end of this report document. This document will
be laid out using headers to divide up the different sections that I will explore and report on. All the
sections will be explored and described to cover the information required to report upon the topic of
this account. The main sections I will explore will be an Introduction and about the RMS Titanic s
maiden voyage, an analysis of the materials used in the construction of the RMS Titanic, the effects
that temperature has on the materials especially metals, the different compositions of the steels and
how that effects the material s properties and I will also be comparing the steels used in the
construction of the RMS Titanic s hull with the steel used to construct lock gates and the modern
equivalent structural steel

Development Of Aging Or Mid Life Crisis
There will come a time when one has to come to terms of aging or mid life crisis. According to
Weaver (2009) the major psychological changes occur in childhood. The author also noted that Freud
also mentioned that all stages of the psychosexual development are also completed in early childhood
(pp.69). Freud and Freud also had differences when it referred to coming of age (Weaver, 2009). Jung
saw mid life not as a crisis, but put the emphasis on growth and maturation (pp.70). Most of the clients
that Freudians seen were experiencing neurosis, this put a different perspective on their adjustment to
life, while Jung s patients were socially adaptable (Weaver, 2009). Jung did not see mid life crisis of
balancing the self, social world with a deepening meaning. Jung thought that people of mid life, were
developed, one side, of their life, and now lacks meaning (Weaver, 2009). Now the existentialist view
was in contrast with the psychodynamic view and believed that people in this stage of life gravitating
towards meanings and values (Frankl, 1967). This was evident of a study done in the 1960 at a Vienna
Hospital; it showed that 55% existential frustration and half expressed life are meaningless (Frankl,
1967). Carl Rodgers had some similarities with Frankl s perspective on mid life crisis (pp.73).
Rodgers looked at it from a humanistic approach, while asking existential question such as; What is
my purpose? (pp. 73). Rodgers noted that the process of the coming of self is

Surrogacy Controversy
With the increase in the abilities and forms of reproductive technologies over the past 30 years, the
ethics of using them still needs to be further understood. An example of a new form of reproductive
technology is surrogacy. The act of a woman conceiving and carrying an embryo or fetus for an
individual or a couple is defined as surrogacy (White, 2016). The ethics of this method of
reproduction with the nuances of potential payment options and the effects on the parties involved, has
to evolve with the updates in technology and knowledge. The controversy surrounding surrogacy is in
relation to the legality and ethics of paying a surrogate mother to carry and birth a child for an
individual or couple.
Commercial surrogacy should be legislated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, the use of commercial transnational surrogacy increases the complications of the legislation
in Canada. As the world becomes more interconnected, the ability for Canadian citizens to find
commercial surrogates in other countries is an expanding option. Unfortunately, due to rapidly
changing legislation around surrogacy in many countries, parents and their child born from
international surrogates may have difficulty leaving the child s country of birth together (Lozanski,
2015). This uncertainty of the safety for the children of Canadians, combined with the potential for
extreme exploitation of international woman due to a lack of regulations, results in an unsafe
environment (Lozanski, 2015). In addition, due to the decreased costs of surrogacy in Canada, as a
result of commercialized surrogacy being illegal and Canada s public health insurance, the costs for
people internationally to use surrogates in Canada is reduced. This may cause shortages of surrogates
in Canada and cause Canadian taxpayers to pay for international people to come to Canada to have
their children. As Canada s public health insurance covers the cost of the surrogate s medical
expenses, taxpayers are paying for international citizens to have their children in Canada. By
introducing, some form of commercialized surrogacy in Canada this could reduce the strain on the

Antegren: A Beacon of Hope
As Jim Mullen, CEO of Biogen Idec, drove into work on February 19, 2004, he considered both the
tremendous hope and stiff challenge generated by the company the previous day. The company had
announced its intention to submit an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
seeking approval for Antegren, a drug that Biogen Idec was developing in partnership with Elan to
treat multiple sclerosis (MS).
While the patient community and investors greeted the news with excitement, Mullen knew that to
fulfill the promise of Antegren, he would need to make a number of crucial decisions and the company
would need to bring the drug to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process could take months and typically required extensive lead time to schedule meetings and
review data with insurers data that had to be convincing. Early FDA approval would mean short
circuiting that whole methodical process, and it was unclear if this could be finalized before the drug
was approved.
Although all the signals from the FDA were positive, there was also the risk that the FDA, which itself
had been going through a period of upheaval, would not approve Antegren. If this happened, the
reputation risk to Antegren could be irreversible, even if it was approved at a later date after further
trials.
Mullen knew his responsibility was nothing short of transforming the promise of Antegren into reality.
He had to determine how to get the drug made and accessible to patients, and he had to lead the
company to execute in record time on those plans. Mullen knew Biogen Idec could fulfill the high
hopes of patients and investors, and now his task was to lead the company to do so.

A reimagining of the world famous Hindu epic, the Mahabharata told from the perspective of an
amazing woman, Draupadi was a fearless princess of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The one with an
unbending will. The Proud and wrathful heroine of the epic, Draupadi was an enigmatic woman of
substance. Draupadi, meaning daughter of Drupad, was known by numerous other names as well. As
the princess of the kingdom of Panchal she was known as Panchaali. She is also called Krishnaa
because she was dark skinned, fiery eyed and had long, black hair. This name was given to her by her
friend Lord Krishna. The Palace of Illusions takes us back to a period that is half history, half myth
and completely magical. Described by Panchaali, the wife of the great Pandava siblings in the
Mahabharata, the novel gives us a new dimension to the ancient epic. The novel traces the life of
princess Panchaali, beginning with her birth in divine fire and following her unusual life as a woman

of being there for each other. At the same time, their relationship did not distress their commitment to
their own companions. They were still together and yet not together. Their relationship was Pure.
Relationship of Krishna and Draupadi had always been very controversial. Everyone had a different
opinion about their relation, some consider it to be a love relationship and some consider it as just
friendship. Krishna and Krishnaa s friendship is quite unique and modern, to her, Lord Krishna is a

Greek Art And Greek Architecture
Greece No matter where you are, chances are you have witness an inspiring piece of Greece art and
Greece architecture. Whether it s a building, furniture, or pottery, you have seen ideas that started from
Greek. Even houses have resemblance to some of the most famous buildings we seen throughout
history. The architecture of ancient Greece is defined by the temples built to glorify their gods and
goddesses and express pride in their cities. Though in today s world we may not glorify gods and
goddesses when we began to design a home, but we do know how to turn once traditional into a more
contemporary feel. Modern Greek architecture is generally constructed with wood, unbaked bricks,
limestone and marble, and terracotta and metals. Contractors today still use the methods, and of all the
architectural designs used by ancient Greeks throughout history, three major systems have withstood
the test of time and are still used today. Doric, Ionic and Corinthian styles have their own
characteristics, but, however they can look very similar.
The Doric (sturdiest) was based on the proportions of a man. It was the first order and arguably the
most famous Greek system used in today s world. It seemed to have known base and has the simplest
capital atop the fluted shaft. The Parthenon communicated the ideals of the order and harmony for
what Greek architecture is known for.
As for the Ionic it was lighter in character to reflect the portions of women. Unlike the Doric

Essay On Parathas
I recall my visit to Delhi, the glorious capital of India, when I was eight years old. The rich heritage of
the city and the bustling atmosphere of areas such as Chandni Chowk1 seemed to overwhelm me. And
it was in Chandni Chowk where I discovered my favourite dish. I vaguely have a memory of my
mother holding my hand and getting me past crowds to a street filled with aromas of different varieties
of the same food. Small stalls filled the tiny pockets of space available in the street and pans of oil and
ghee2 flew in the air along with a blend of vegetables stuffed in a sort of flatbread. Infactuated by its
smell, I curiously asked my mother what it was that got my attention. Parathas*, answered my mother.

Captain James Macnamar Trial At The Old Bailey On...
In MacNamara (1803), Captain James MacNamara is brought to trial at the Old Bailey on
manslaughter charges stemming from a duel in which MacNamara killed his adversary, Colonel
Robert Montgomery. Interestingly, an examination of the trial proceedings demonstrates that the
defence focused on the defendant s honourability. Rather than focus on the defendant s criminal
actions, the defence sought to counter the prosecution by highlighting the defendant s actions in
relation to another code, the English code of honour. In spite of a strong prosecution, the jury s verdict
of not guilty in MacNamara is reflective of the vast majority of English criminal trials involving
duelists being ruled in favour of the defendants, demonstrating the subversion of English criminal law
by the code of honour in the Georgian period (1714 1830).
MacNamara (1803) On 6 April 1803, Captain James MacNamara and Colonel Robert Montgomery
travelled on horseback through Hyde Park with their separate entourages and Newfoundland dogs.
The dogs, who had run ahead of their masters, attacked one another. Arriving at the scene of the
canine altercation, Montgomery confronted MacNamara, demanding that the latter restrain his dog.
Sensing a challenge, MacNamara asserted his intention to stand by his dog, accusing Montgomery of
arrogance and disrespect. With neither prepared to concede, both parties agreed to meet later that day
atop Primrose hill in a pistol duel. In the duel, MacNamara fatally wounded

Essay on Censorship in Schools is not Justifiable
Censorship in School is Not Justifiable Walt Whitman once said, The dirtiest book of all is the
expurgated book. Between the years 2000 and 2009 a total of 3200 books were challenged in school
libraries in an attempt to expurgate, or censor, the content in books provided to students. Today the
trend of censorship continues as popular novels such as The Hunger Games, The Fault in Our Stars,
and Captain Underpants are censored from schools across the nation (Challenges by
Reason).Censorship in regards to literature refers to the examination and suppressing of a book

Heinrich Heine states, Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings.
Restricting the discussion of new and controversial ideas rather than tolerating and acknowledging the
presence of new and controversial ideas is causing more pain than it is worth in the school setting. The
idea of censoring reality from school libraries is unreasoned, yet that is exactly what pro censorship
individuals advocate. The discussion and knowledge of new, controversial, and necessary ideas among
students is restricted due to censorship.
Censorship in school libraries allows teachers, administrators, peers and their parents to decide what a
student may or may not read based on their opinion. Opinion is variable between different groups of
people within the school; therefore, a single person or a small group of people cannot be trusted to
make decisions on the behalf of a larger group. Kekla Magoon argues, That no one person can be
trusted to censor material, individuals can choose to be exposed to. Expurgation, banning, and
abridgement of books are not allowing students to learn how to guard themselves from topics they do
not personally believe in. Students would benefit much more if they practiced self censorship rather
than depending on adults to make decisions for them. A

Gastric Acid Secretion Research Paper
Gastric acid production and secretion
Gastric acid secretion is said to be a complex process regulated by hormonal and neural pathways
(Ceglia et al. 2008). This paper would try to decipher the pathophysiology of gastric acid secretion
and explain the changes process in different types of disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease,
and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
To begin talking about acid production and secretion, we have first to consider talking about the
physiology of the stomach. The stomach consists of three basic parts, the fundus the body and the
antrum, which are divided into two glandular regions, the oxyntic, and pyloric mucosa (Lewis,
Heitkemper and Dirksen, 2014). In the oxyntic gland mucosa, lays the parietal cells, ... Show more

Some common disorders associated with gastric acid secretion are gastroesophageal reflux disease
(GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis. For example, in gastroesophageal reflux disease,
high gastric contents enter and remain in the lower part of the esophagus due to weakened esophageal
sphincter, abdominal pressure, hiatal hernia, alcohol consumption or cigarettes smoking. Usually, the
lower esophageal sphincter maintains enough pressure around the lower end of the esophagus to close
it and prevent reflux (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Sometimes the pressure in the stomach exceeds
the pressure in the esophagus, causes the sphincter to open and gastric contents penetrate the
esophagus which cause pain and irritation. Peptic ulcer diseases (PUD) and gastritis disorders,
however; are primarily caused by bacterial infection with helicobacter pylori and acid secretions also
play a major role (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Direct alteration of signal transduction in mucosal
and immune cells by H pylori infection may cause an increase in acid secretion and diminish mucosal
defenses (McPhee and Hammer,

can she compete with her best friend for class president? As her walk out the library door, she holds a

When most hockey fans hear about the Vancouver Canucks, losing is one of the first things to come to

Canucks early years, their greatest players, and their numerous trips to the Stanley Cup Finals, a
clearer picture can be formed. Exploring these areas show that the Canucks were, and are, a
competitive and talented team. During their early years in the NHL, the Vancouver Canucks played
very poorly. They were added to the league in 1970. Vancouver s first home arena was the Pacific

Abnormal Hippocampal Structure
One of the most important findings in schizophrenia is an abnormal hippocampal structure (Weiss et
al., 2005). Evidence from post mortem examination and patient s brain imaging have shown the
decreased volume and the presence of an abnormality in the shape of the hippocampus (Bogerts et al.,
1990; Nelson et al., 1998; Wright et al., 2000; Shenton et al., 2002). These neuroimaging findings
have also been observed in individuals in the first episode or prodromal phase of schizophrenia
(Shenton Gerig et al., 2002). Structural imaging studies have suggested that reduced hippocampal
volume is extended through the frontal to posterior regions, and it is not restricted to a particular
region of the hippocampus (Weiss DeWitt et al., 2005). Studies have shown differences in morphology
(size, organization, shape) of hippocampal neurons (Benes et al., 1991; Arnold et al., 1995; Zaidel et

College And An Arts Degree
While a substantial amount of students see the opportunity to make a fair living from earning a college
degree, there are students who look to pursue their passions. Many instances people view college as a
gateway into the middle class if they aren t of the wealthy already. So they venture out to study as an
engineer, doctor, lawyer, or ect, in hopes of making over $100,000 or as close to this as possible.
However when arts students take on college the expectation to get paid high wages like that is
unlikely. Bring up the question is college and an arts degree really worth it? The worth of an arts
degree is not always worth the expense of college because of possible student loan debt, salary
makeup gain and jobs for artists sometimes require bachelor s degrees. Student loan debt has been an
increasing problem in our country for years now, leaving people for truly living in peace and being a
reason why people choose not to go to college. In 2014 student loan debt rose to 1.2 Trillion dollars of
debt. This can cause a problem with artists because the most an artist will make is close to $50,000 a
year. Excessive amounts of tuition can be very discouraging on the pursuit for a life you want to live.
The amounts of debt people go through is completely out of this world. This next example is only an
example to see what the extremes of debt would be like. According to Jason C. White who has a Ph.D
in Arts management from Ohio State University has stated that in between the years

The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender And...
Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and
distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific revolutions have also triggered
sociopolitical movements, which have had negative and positive connotations on culture and society.
This overhaul in scientific thought began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwin and his
theory of Darwinism. Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the complex
processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their particular
environment (darwin online.org, 2008). Shortly after Darwin made his revolutionary claims, one of
the most prolific and controversial scientific revolutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, this theory has a history of elevating certain groups while oppressing others and this paper
aims to expose the impact of the Eugenics movement in and its lasting effects on gender and culture in
America, specifically on women and African Americans and individuals with disabilities.
In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people
was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race
negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to procreate
and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard for their
ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened with the
stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison to male
counterparts.
Dr. Roswell H. Johnson student of influential American eugenicist Charles Davenport, expert, and
professor of eugenics and prominent mind in the American Eugenics Movement picked up where
Darwin and Galton left off. He was co developer of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis (T

Is Technology Good or Bad For Us? Technology has been around for a very long time now. In some
way or another, it s been a part of people s lives nowadays whether it s cell phones, tv, computers,
tablets, we all own one or more of these things. Digital electronics started between the late 1950 s and
1970 s. According to Forbes, the first document which included the discussion of building a computer
was on June 30, 1945. Back in the day, technology wasn t as popular or used as it is now. It amazes
me to see how much it has grown. From box Tv s to flat screen tvs to smart tv s that can connect to
other online sites such as youtube, and Netflix. Phones have gone from house phones, to flip phones,
to smartphones. It s hard to believe sometimes how far technology has grown. Technology overall, is
good for high school, college students. It helps them in many ways one is being able to do research
online. My question has always been whether technology is good or bad for younger generations by
Dr. Manny Alvarez. As said by him, nearly every modern parent has given a tablet or smartphone to a
child for entertainment. By entertainment, he means letting them watch movies, and cartoons. Almost
every parent that I know has done this at least once. A lot has to do with the baby being grumpy and
parents using technology as an entertainment for them to not cry. Alvarez does state that parents

A Woman Who Was A Girl
Once upon a time there was a woman who was unexpectedly pregnant. She had big brown eyes, short
hair, and her physique was slim since she lived in the gym and practiced for volleyball. Even though
the little seed in the woman s stomach was not planned, her parents were overly excited for another
child. They already had two of their own to take care of but were ready for another challenge. A
couple months into the pregnancy, they were shocked to know the child was a girl. They had two boys
before that and thought they would have another one. Her parents did not know what to name their
first daughter, but her mother thought of Alinali, which many could not pronounce one bit. On the
other hand, her father thought of something simple, like Nicole.
Every day after she was born, her parents cherished her and their other two sons. They showed
unconditional love on a daily basis and always gave an abundant number of hugs and kisses. Three
years went by when Nicole and her siblings had one more addition to the family. Sadly, things began
to change. Her parents had struggled financially and were extremely stressed. Looking for ways to
help the family, both parents worked assiduously to bring money to the table, and that is why her
mother applied for a side job at a hotel. Injuring her back at her first job, which had dealt with cars,
her mother could not work no longer, so all the responsibility was left on the father. They managed

Family Dynamics And Family Structure
Dear Dr. Parsons,
As a structural functionalist, you mainly study specific societies by classifying the major structures of
society and then asking the question, how does this matter. When studying these families, however,
you undertake that this society blossoms when it is able to maintain social stability and social
integration. Social stability however is valued over changes in time, not just immediately. This topic of
family dynamics and family structure seems to be of great importance to you, and to be honest, quite
important to me as well. To understand your views on the ideal family form, two assumptions must be
made. First, agricultural societies had simple social structures and the typical individual performed a
variation of tasks. Secondly, industrial societies had more convoluted social structures where one
person performs specified and concentrated tasks that contribute to the whole picture. The nuclear
family started to be considered, as the ideal adaptation to surviving in an industrial society. It
consisted of a father, mother, and their children. The traditional agricultural family consisting of
family members that weren t close, extended, did not seem purposeful for the industrial society as a
whole. The agricultural family was distant because older family functions such as families playing
smaller roles in making goods, providing personal care and healthcare, relaxation activities, and
education were all ignored by the family as a whole. Overall, these

Copyright Framework Of The Music Industry
Copyright framework in the music industry
Intellectual property is the economic framework that underpins the British creative industry music
being one of them. Copyright is the currency of that framework. It can provide an incentive to the
market to invest in brand new creative content, since every recording by an artist can be licensed for a
specific value in the United Kingdom and globally, hence generating a substantial balance of export
income for the UK. According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Creative
industries are the third biggest export industry for the UK, which makes the monarchy the largest
cultural economy in the world relative to GDP.
From a legal standpoint, copyright is governed by legislation, which is extracted from the national
law, as well as from the European Union law.
Although copyright can be financially beneficial for the turf, its infringement causes damage to the
music industry. Specifically, in a continuously developing digital environment, it is easier to acquire,
create, market and sell music. However, along with these improvements, there has arisen the
opportunity to unlawfully acquire music, and thus breach the law concerned with a sector that is
committed to find solution to limit the damages caused by illegal download.

of copyright, and campaign for proportionate measures to help the rightsholders protect

The specialized personnel that I would need at the crime scene include a medical examiner, sketch
artist, photographer, forensic scientist, fingerprint specialists and investigating officers. The
responsibility of the medical examiner is to determine the cause of death, time of death, and take
custody of the body (Fisher, 2004). The next specialized personnel that I would utilize would be that
of the sketch artist. This individual is very important to the investigation. The sketch artist is
responsible for focusing on facial features as they interview informants, asking them to choose from
examples of noses, eyes, mouths, foreheads and chins. Sketching is mostly done by hand, but forensic
artists specializing in age progression may use computer graphic programs. The photographer that is
present at the crime scene is responsible for making one picture worth a thousand words. Photography
plays an integral role in the documentation of physical evidence found at crime and accident scenes as
well as during forensic autopsies. Forensic Photographers are among the first crime scene technicians
to arrive at crime and accident scenes. They walk through a scene to obtain an overview before they
begin taking photographs. Forensic Photographers apply their technical skills and their knowledge of
anatomy and forensic requirements to take photographs that convey the information that crime scene,

his ecological system in the development of a child where he defines the four concentric systems that
are the micro , the meso , the exo and the macrosystems. He later added a time related fifth system, the
chronosystem. Bronfenbrenner is revered as one of the leading world authorities in the field of
development psychology. The following essay will have an in depth explanation of Bronfenbrenner s
theory and a few examples. Microsystems This is the layer closest to the child, which they have direct
contact with. The microsystem encompasses the relationships and interactions a child has with her
immediate surroundings (Berk, 2000). The structures that is included in this system includes the
family members, school or childcare and community environment. This is the system that shapes the
individual in terms of their moral, social, emotional and spiritual development. The parents may
influence the child s beliefs and development and visa versa Bronfenbrenner calls these bi directional
influences (Härkönen, 2006: 7). Mesosystems This layer provides the connection between the

happens in the child s life, whether it is direct or indirect, influences the child either negatively or
positively and that s important to understand especially if you are a parent. Also, being a teacher, you
need to understand what your learner is going through or what their behaviour is like in order to be an

In 1902, Cuba peacefully gained independence from the United States. A few years earlier, the U.S.

An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden
In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected norms and those that
rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs
of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any
complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the
norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them.
The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a
conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the
short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character
which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of
society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within
today s society.
Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a conformist. W.H. Auden
created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does not appear to want to do anything for
himself, but rather for the others within his community. In line five W.H. Auden states, for in
everything he did, he served the Greater Community (497), meaning this man is known to be a good
person because he did not just do something for himself, but for the

Descriptive Essay About Summer Break
Our First Dinner
This morning, my cousins arrived at my house. Since then, the place has been bustling with noise, and
there has been a lot of shoving and roughhousing. Currently, we are getting ready for dinner. Let me
backtrack. Yesterday, my aunt called our house to ask my mom if she and her kids could visit. For a
week. My mother agreed, albeit reluctantly. We then cleaned the house and stocked up on food. My
aunt and uncle have four kids, and my parents have three. So a lot of people in one house. To top it all
off, it s the first week of summer break. Like I said, at the moment the house is in chaos with everyone
carrying food, utensils, and chairs around the kitchen. We are getting ready for our first meal together.
We went out for lunch so we didn t have to worry about making food. Now we do. Since most of us
kids don t know how to cook, we got pushed into the basement. So we are playing games while we
wait for the adults to get done with the food. We fight, we shove, and we punch. My family is really
rough, so when we get together, you can almost guarantee that there will be fighting. After what feels
like hours, we hear my mom yell, Kids, the food s ready! We all immediately stampede up the stairs,
trying to beat each other to the kitchen. Once we get there, we all fight over seats before we finally get
settled. My uncle says Grace and we all dig in.
So, how has everyone s summer been so far? my aunt questions. We reply with mumbles of Good and
Boring .

It faced the problems similar to those of Italy. There were 9 cabinets in 1920 28. Moreover, Germany
was unified by Bismarck. It inherited from Prussia the tradition of authoritarianism and contempt for
democracy. German people were dissatisfied with the inefficient administration of the Weimar
government. In addition, the Weimar Constitution vested too much power in the hands of the
President, which increased the chance for Hitler to become a dictator.
Postwar Economic Difficulties
Production came to a halt in Italy after the war. Over one million people became unemployed.
Besides, 2.5 million soldiers had returned and waited for jobs. Italy also owed a huge amount of war
debts. There was hyper inflation. Enterprises and factories closed down. The economy was going to
collapse. People longed for a saviour.
Other than war debts, Germany was also burdened with the huge indemnity imposed by the Treaty of
Versailles. No money was available for reconstruction. The mark dropped in value horribly when the
French troops occupied the Ruhr district in 1923. Although Stresemann could overcome the economic
hardship for the time being with American aid, the Great Depression of 1929 put Germany in an
economic crisis again. By 1932 6 million people were unemployed. People had no hope for the

late and drunk. Joel is mad at her because of that but also, since this is the end of their relationship,
they are are more susceptible to what each of them does, which contributes and can be clearly seen in
this argument. They start arguing about Joel s car, which Clementine has broke down because she was
driving whilst being under the effects of alcohol. He is clearly not happy about that and he starts
blaming her for possibly having cause some more damage apart from the car. They start to get more
angry at each other, specially from the moment Joel calls Clementine a wino and since Clementine is
clearly offended by that she points out to Joel that the only reason he is mad at her is because he is
contemplating the possibility of her having had sexual relationships with another person that is not
him, which is something he wouldn t like to happen. But Joel response to that is that he assumes she
has done that, since that

Essay On Critical Reflection
Part one: Critical Reflection on your team as whole
I believe our group has struggled from the very beginning with being organized. I think some of the
difficulties started with the team strategic plan. The team would have benefited more, from an outline
of information that would be presented during the final speech (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think
our organization was lacking the first day we met to work on the team strategic plan. We all pushed off
the meeting because we thought we had more time and as the due date approached we quickly met up
to discuss what needed to be in the strategic plan. Then asked everyone to work on it on their own
time. I don t think this was the most beneficial way to divide tasks. We should have spent more time
doing group work, and not assigned as much individual work (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think
we should have used part of the designated meeting times to do group work, that would have been the
most beneficial for our group due to all members of the group having so much going on outside of the
project, that the time would have allowed each of us to have a required/designated time to work on the
project. Allowing for us to get more done, earlier on. I think the anticipation of some members to get
the team strategic plan done also caused them to take on too much responsibility which affected their
stress level and in return affect their quality of work. Also causing us to get a lower grade due to other

Rhetoric And Politics In John Smith s Class
In Smith s class there some stuff that id drop, change, and add. These are the things. I d dump Rhetoric
and politics. This subject just plainly sucked. There was a lot of arguing between the classmates. And
there was lots of debates. It wasn t my cup of tea to learn about. I rather learn about something more
important. I didn t like doing the commercials at all they were kinda really boring. And a waste of time
when we could have been doing something more important. This is what i d tweak for next year. I d
tweak classic lit. First i d change it so that the slideshow at the end was shorter. And not so much little
detail.Id make it easier take out all the useless unnecessary stuff. This way us students would have
more time for the more detailed

Television Program Unfit For A Young Kid
One of my fondest moments growing up, besides curling up in my mothers arms as she cuddled me,
was watching reruns of Tom Jerry. Some parents would question my mother s choice of letting me
watch such a violent cartoon at the tender age of three since it displayed a lot of unforgivingly violent
moments such as: how many chokes and gags Tom performed on Jerry and vice versa. It is a tough
question to answer, as is the question of whether Tom and Jerry was considered excessively violent
television program unfit for a young kid. However, in all honesty, it is up to the parents of the child to
regulate what they believe personally to be the best fit for a young child to watch. There is a huge
difference between now and then: parents have much more power on regulating what their children
see on TV with the technology of parental control that started surfacing recently which did not exist in
my time. In this context, many people believed, and probably still do, that the government should have
acted as a surrogate for parents whose only control of the TV was the power button. Today, parents
can filter or tailor TV programs in majority of ways like the V chip for example, which allows certain
programs blocked off if the parents deem it so or based on ratings. There is also another avenue like
the cable satellite boxes that exist today which offer a vast variety of screening tools to prevent
children from exploring television channels or programs a parent might feel too

  • 2. Separating the Flames of Reality Essay In Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use, Wangero could have thought: Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust. Once the house burned, it, and its history is dead lost in the flames the joy in a new start, a new life, a new name must have made Wangero want to dance around the ashes (66) of the house. Dee did in fact change her name to Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo. When her mother asked her why she didn t use her name anymore Wangero answered: She s dead, I couldn t bear it any longer being named after the people who oppress me. (68) `She died in the same fire that burned down the house I suppose. So, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Dee was reborn as Wangero. However, the night of the fire a flame of conflict was born for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the separation between Maggie (and her mother) and Dee is also symbolically the separation between Wangero (fantasy) and Maggie (reality). The same objects that her mother and Maggie use everyday, Wangero wants to use artistically. The butter churn top she will use as a centerpiece for the alcove table, (69) but the quilts Wangero wants to Hang them As if that was the only thing you could do with quilts. (70) But of course Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use. (70) Consequently, the choice is between having objects just for show, or using the objects for what they were made. For the mother, the choice is not easy. The illusion of Wangero appears as a dream where the mother says she is a hundred pounds lighter, my skin like an uncooked barley pancake (65) her hair glistening in the lights. She dreams she has a quick and witty tongue. (65) Who wouldn t wish for such a dream to be real? But the reality is that she is like Maggie always with one foot raised in flight. (65) Maggie s mother is a large, big boned woman. (65) She is not conventionally beautiful. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism In chapter three Weber presents the final drawback between the Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism. As previously mentioned, Weber also introduced the idea of a calling to worldly pursuits. As he describes in this chapter, Lutheranism has a divinely sanctioned place in the world, but for the first time the question of how well one performed and their role became significant. Conversely, Weber does not consider that belief in a calling is adequate to explain the spirit of capitalism. With this in mind, a calling can adhere to traditionalism since it implies that an individual should assume their position in society without further motiviation to become more. Catholicism after all was the basis for the traditional worldview. As an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sam asked. I am the Goddess of death. She told. • 7. Development Of Aging Or Mid Life Crisis There will come a time when one has to come to terms of aging or mid life crisis. According to Weaver (2009) the major psychological changes occur in childhood. The author also noted that Freud also mentioned that all stages of the psychosexual development are also completed in early childhood (pp.69). Freud and Freud also had differences when it referred to coming of age (Weaver, 2009). Jung saw mid life not as a crisis, but put the emphasis on growth and maturation (pp.70). Most of the clients that Freudians seen were experiencing neurosis, this put a different perspective on their adjustment to life, while Jung s patients were socially adaptable (Weaver, 2009). Jung did not see mid life crisis of balancing the self, social world with a deepening meaning. Jung thought that people of mid life, were developed, one side, of their life, and now lacks meaning (Weaver, 2009). Now the existentialist view was in contrast with the psychodynamic view and believed that people in this stage of life gravitating towards meanings and values (Frankl, 1967). This was evident of a study done in the 1960 at a Vienna Hospital; it showed that 55% existential frustration and half expressed life are meaningless (Frankl, 1967). Carl Rodgers had some similarities with Frankl s perspective on mid life crisis (pp.73). Rodgers looked at it from a humanistic approach, while asking existential question such as; What is my purpose? (pp. 73). Rodgers noted that the process of the coming of self is ... • 8. Surrogacy Controversy With the increase in the abilities and forms of reproductive technologies over the past 30 years, the ethics of using them still needs to be further understood. An example of a new form of reproductive technology is surrogacy. The act of a woman conceiving and carrying an embryo or fetus for an individual or a couple is defined as surrogacy (White, 2016). The ethics of this method of reproduction with the nuances of potential payment options and the effects on the parties involved, has to evolve with the updates in technology and knowledge. The controversy surrounding surrogacy is in relation to the legality and ethics of paying a surrogate mother to carry and birth a child for an individual or couple. To begin, the use of commercial transnational surrogacy increases the complications of the legislation in Canada. As the world becomes more interconnected, the ability for Canadian citizens to find commercial surrogates in other countries is an expanding option. Unfortunately, due to rapidly changing legislation around surrogacy in many countries, parents and their child born from international surrogates may have difficulty leaving the child s country of birth together (Lozanski, 2015). This uncertainty of the safety for the children of Canadians, combined with the potential for extreme exploitation of international woman due to a lack of regulations, results in an unsafe environment (Lozanski, 2015). In addition, due to the decreased costs of surrogacy in Canada, as a result of commercialized surrogacy being illegal and Canada s public health insurance, the costs for people internationally to use surrogates in Canada is reduced. This may cause shortages of surrogates in Canada and cause Canadian taxpayers to pay for international people to come to Canada to have their children. As Canada s public health insurance covers the cost of the surrogate s medical expenses, taxpayers are paying for international citizens to have their children in Canada. Whether it s a building, furniture, or pottery, you have seen ideas that started from Greek. Even houses have resemblance to some of the most famous buildings we seen throughout history. The architecture of ancient Greece is defined by the temples built to glorify their gods and goddesses and express pride in their cities. Though in today s world we may not glorify gods and goddesses when we began to design a home, but we do know how to turn once traditional into a more contemporary feel. Modern Greek architecture is generally constructed with wood, unbaked bricks, limestone and marble, and terracotta and metals. Contractors today still use the methods, and of all the architectural designs used by ancient Greeks throughout history, three major systems have withstood the test of time and are still used today. Doric, Ionic and Corinthian styles have their own characteristics, but, however they can look very similar. The Doric (sturdiest) was based on the proportions of a man. It was the first order and arguably the most famous Greek system used in today s world. It seemed to have known base and has the simplest capital atop the fluted shaft. In MacNamara (1803), Captain James MacNamara is brought to trial at the Old Bailey on manslaughter charges stemming from a duel in which MacNamara killed his adversary, Colonel Robert Montgomery. Interestingly, an examination of the trial proceedings demonstrates that the defence focused on the defendant s honourability. Rather than focus on the defendant s criminal actions, the defence sought to counter the prosecution by highlighting the defendant s actions in relation to another code, the English code of honour. In spite of a strong prosecution, the jury s verdict of not guilty in MacNamara is reflective of the vast majority of English criminal trials involving duelists being ruled in favour of the defendants, demonstrating the subversion of English criminal law by the code of honour in the Georgian period (1714 1830). MacNamara (1803) On 6 April 1803, Captain James MacNamara and Colonel Robert Montgomery travelled on horseback through Hyde Park with their separate entourages and Newfoundland dogs. The dogs, who had run ahead of their masters, attacked one another. Arriving at the scene of the canine altercation, Montgomery confronted MacNamara, demanding that the latter restrain his dog. Sensing a challenge, MacNamara asserted his intention to stand by his dog, accusing Montgomery of arrogance and disrespect. Heinrich Heine states, Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings. Restricting the discussion of new and controversial ideas rather than tolerating and acknowledging the presence of new and controversial ideas is causing more pain than it is worth in the school setting. The idea of censoring reality from school libraries is unreasoned, yet that is exactly what pro censorship individuals advocate. The discussion and knowledge of new, controversial, and necessary ideas among students is restricted due to censorship. Censorship in school libraries allows teachers, administrators, peers and their parents to decide what a student may or may not read based on their opinion. Opinion is variable between different groups of people within the school; therefore, a single person or a small group of people cannot be trusted to make decisions on the behalf of a larger group. Kekla Magoon argues, That no one person can be trusted to censor material, individuals can choose to be exposed to. This paper would try to decipher the pathophysiology of gastric acid secretion and explain the changes process in different types of disorders such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. To begin talking about acid production and secretion, we have first to consider talking about the physiology of the stomach. The stomach consists of three basic parts, the fundus the body and the antrum, which are divided into two glandular regions, the oxyntic, and pyloric mucosa (Lewis, Heitkemper and Dirksen, 2014). Some common disorders associated with gastric acid secretion are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis. For example, in gastroesophageal reflux disease, high gastric contents enter and remain in the lower part of the esophagus due to weakened esophageal sphincter, abdominal pressure, hiatal hernia, alcohol consumption or cigarettes smoking. Usually, the lower esophageal sphincter maintains enough pressure around the lower end of the esophagus to close it and prevent reflux (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). Sometimes the pressure in the stomach exceeds the pressure in the esophagus, causes the sphincter to open and gastric contents penetrate the esophagus which cause pain and irritation. Peptic ulcer diseases (PUD) and gastritis disorders, however; are primarily caused by bacterial infection with helicobacter pylori and acid secretions also play a major role (McPhee and Hammer, 2012). It s hard to believe sometimes how far technology has grown. Technology overall, is good for high school, college students. It helps them in many ways one is being able to do research online. My question has always been whether technology is good or bad for younger generations by Dr. Manny Alvarez. As said by him, nearly every modern parent has given a tablet or smartphone to a child for entertainment. By entertainment, he means letting them watch movies, and cartoons. Almost every parent that I know has done this at least once. A lot has to do with the baby being grumpy and parents using technology as an entertainment for them to not cry. • 25. A Woman Who Was A Girl Once upon a time there was a woman who was unexpectedly pregnant. She had big brown eyes, short hair, and her physique was slim since she lived in the gym and practiced for volleyball. Even though the little seed in the woman s stomach was not planned, her parents were overly excited for another child. They already had two of their own to take care of but were ready for another challenge. A couple months into the pregnancy, they were shocked to know the child was a girl. They had two boys before that and thought they would have another one. Her parents did not know what to name their first daughter, but her mother thought of Alinali, which many could not pronounce one bit. On the other hand, her father thought of something simple, like Nicole. Every day after she was born, her parents cherished her and their other two sons. They showed unconditional love on a daily basis and always gave an abundant number of hugs and kisses. Three years went by when Nicole and her siblings had one more addition to the family. Sadly, things began to change. Her parents had struggled financially and were extremely stressed. Looking for ways to help the family, both parents worked assiduously to bring money to the table, and that is why her mother applied for a side job at a hotel. Injuring her back at her first job, which had dealt with cars, her mother could not work no longer, so all the responsibility was left on the father. • 26. Family Dynamics And Family Structure Dear Dr. Parsons, As a structural functionalist, you mainly study specific societies by classifying the major structures of society and then asking the question, how does this matter. When studying these families, however, you undertake that this society blossoms when it is able to maintain social stability and social integration. Social stability however is valued over changes in time, not just immediately. This topic of family dynamics and family structure seems to be of great importance to you, and to be honest, quite important to me as well. To understand your views on the ideal family form, two assumptions must be made. First, agricultural societies had simple social structures and the typical individual performed a variation of tasks. Secondly, industrial societies had more convoluted social structures where one person performs specified and concentrated tasks that contribute to the whole picture. The nuclear family started to be considered, as the ideal adaptation to surviving in an industrial society. It consisted of a father, mother, and their children. The traditional agricultural family consisting of family members that weren t close, extended, did not seem purposeful for the industrial society as a whole. The agricultural family was distant because older family functions such as families playing smaller roles in making goods, providing personal care and healthcare, relaxation activities, and education were all ignored by the family as a whole. • 27. Copyright Framework Of The Music Industry Copyright framework in the music industry Intellectual property is the economic framework that underpins the British creative industry music being one of them. Copyright is the currency of that framework. It can provide an incentive to the market to invest in brand new creative content, since every recording by an artist can be licensed for a specific value in the United Kingdom and globally, hence generating a substantial balance of export income for the UK. According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Creative industries are the third biggest export industry for the UK, which makes the monarchy the largest cultural economy in the world relative to GDP. From a legal standpoint, copyright is governed by legislation, which is extracted from the national law, as well as from the European Union law. Although copyright can be financially beneficial for the turf, its infringement causes damage to the music industry. Specifically, in a continuously developing digital environment, it is easier to acquire, create, market and sell music. However, along with these improvements, there has arisen the opportunity to unlawfully acquire music, and thus breach the law concerned with a sector that is committed to find solution to limit the damages caused by illegal download. The microsystem encompasses the relationships and interactions a child has with her immediate surroundings (Berk, 2000). The structures that is included in this system includes the family members, school or childcare and community environment. • 32. An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected norms and those that rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them. The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within today s society. Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a conformist. W.H. Auden created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does not appear to want to do anything for himself, but rather for the others within his community. In line five W.H. I think our organization was lacking the first day we met to work on the team strategic plan. We all pushed off the meeting because we thought we had more time and as the due date approached we quickly met up to discuss what needed to be in the strategic plan. Then asked everyone to work on it on their own time. I don t think this was the most beneficial way to divide tasks. We should have spent more time doing group work, and not assigned as much individual work (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think we should have used part of the designated meeting times to do group work, that would have been the most beneficial for our group due to all members of the group having so much going on outside of the project, that the time would have allowed each of us to have a required/designated time to work on the project. Allowing for us to get more done, earlier on. Some parents would question my mother s choice of letting me watch such a violent cartoon at the tender age of three since it displayed a lot of unforgivingly violent moments such as: how many chokes and gags Tom performed on Jerry and vice versa. It is a tough question to answer, as is the question of whether Tom and Jerry was considered excessively violent television program unfit for a young kid. However, in all honesty, it is up to the parents of the child to regulate what they believe personally to be the best fit for a young child to watch. There is a huge difference between now and then: parents have much more power on regulating what their children see on TV with the technology of parental control that started surfacing recently which did not exist in my time. In this context, many people believed, and probably still do, that the government should have acted as a surrogate for parents whose only control of the TV was the power button. Today, parents can filter or tailor TV programs in majority of ways like the V chip for example, which allows certain programs blocked off if the parents deem it so or based on ratings.
