Synthesis and Characterization of Zn(Tpp) and Cu(Tpp)
Synthesis and Characterization of Zn(TPP) and Cu(TPP) Complexes
1
Project Summary The overall goal of the project is to synthesize two metalloporhyrins,
(Tetraphenylporphyrinato)zinc(II) and (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)copper(II). Because
metalloporphyrins occur naturally in hemoglobin and chlorophyll, their study has implications in
synthesizing human blood as well as utilizing its ability to convert visible light to energy. In addition
to these two applications, metalloporhyrins are utilized in supramolecular studies, are being
researched for potential photodynamic therapy, and are used in building electronics on the molecular
scale. While Zinc and Copper may not be the basis of chlorophyll or hemoglobin, by studying any

Due to its highly conjugated structure, hematoporphyrin absorbs most strongly at around 640 nm, a
wavelength that penetrates deeply into living tissue. Newer photodynamic therapy agents, including
others based around porphyrin, absorb between 650 850 nm, thus allowing for deeper penetration of
activating radiation into tissues.4 According to a study by Wormald et al.,5 another

porphyrin based compound, known commercially as verteporfin, also shows promise in the
treatment of macular degeneration by selectively halting the growth of harmful blood vessels under
the retina. The photochemical and optical properties of porphyrin compounds have also made them a
target of research in the field of molecular electronics. One goal of this research has been to produce
improved optoelectronic devices such as photovoltaic cells, OLEDs and OFETs by imitating the early
steps of photosynthesis. 3 The high thermal and photostabilities of porphyrin compounds also
contribute to their appeal in the field of material science. Supramolecular structures of porphyrin
compounds have also been studied for their electrical properties, and have been used to build
nanoarchitectures and molecular assemblies ranging in length from several nanometers to the
millimeter scale.1 This particular project focuses on two metalloporphyrins:
(Tetraphenylporphyrinato)zinc(II) (Zn(TPP)) and (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)copper(II) (Cu(TPP)).

Jem Coming Of Age Essay
To Destroy a Camellia Bush
Wouldn t you have a feeling of repulsion for an old lady who is always talking down to you? To Kill A
Mockingbird by Harper Lee introduces the story of two siblings, Scout and Jem, growing up in a
racial society. Jem, Scout s sister, undergoes many coming of age experiences. One of the coming of
age experiences Jem has faced is when he has to do a favor for Mrs. Dubose, the old lady Scout and
Jem don t like and who is also a morphine addict. Jem s coming of age experience is developed by
Mrs. Dubose through Conflict, Irony, and Imagery. To start with, the first coming of age experience
Jem faces is Conflict. In chapter 11 of To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Mrs. Dubose have a person vs.
person external conflict with each other. Referring back to the book, it says She put her hand to her
mouth. When she drew it away, it trailed a long silver thread of saliva. Your fathers no better than the

Dubose through the author s use of Conflict, Irony, and Imagery. Jem s coming of age experience
develops when he gets furious with Mrs. Dubose s attitude towards him and his family, but then
realizes why she s always been a rude, old lady through Atticus s explanation. It also develops when
Jem is asked to read to Mrs. Dubose which is something that was very unexpected. His coming of age
experience develops when Jem and Scout are with Mrs. Dubose closer than they ever have been with
her. The point, though is Jem and Scout think of Mrs. Dubose as an old, horrible lady and they don t
really like her for what she has done to them and their family. After they discover an explanation from
Atticus saying that the things she does is all because of her morphine addiction, they start to
understand why does so. If people knew about Mrs. Dubose s problem and her addiction, then maybe
they wouldn t think of her as the old lady they think of

Descriptive Essay About The Maze
The Maize Maze
Diego Villada Youel
As I crawled in the back of my dad s truck, ready to go to the corn maze, my stomach felt like it had a
hundred butterflies were trying to get out. About halfway to the corn maze my stomach felt like the
butterflies that we re trying to storm out had ten babies each, that we re now trying to burst out like
fireworks. I could taste the dirt under my nails when I was chewing them due to the tizzy feeling I had
about what was going to happen in the maze.
Finally, after what felt like a week before I arrived to the farm we hopped in line to buy tickets for the
maze. I heard screams coming from the maze and the butterflies flew away, but, pigeons took their
place and I felt like puking. I heard people, coming out of the maze talking about their favorite parts.
One of them announced their favorite was when she was chased by the man with a chainsaw. Just the
thought of being chased made me want to curl up in a ball, find a nice hiding place and never come
out. On the other hand, I undoubtedly wanted to mosey through the maze, to show my brother and
sister that I could make it through the maze and not appear as scared as them.
After getting our tickets, we hopped in line for the maze. In the rear of the line, we talked and took
pictures. There were about twenty people in front of us, but, In no time we were at the front of the
line. As soon as our tickets were checked, we walked into the maze and it smelled like hay and corn. I

Predominantly White Institutions vs Historically Black...
Predominately White Institutions and the Reasons they are Worth the Time and Money
It was only a year ago when I was faced with making a very important decision that would affect me
for the rest of my life. It was time for me to choose an institution of higher learning to continue my
studies that would eventually lead me to my career. My decision wasn t simply which university or
college to choose, but as a young black student, whether to choose a Historically Black College or
University (HBCU) or a Predominately White Institution (PWI). This would take me on an insightful
journey and I would make my decision after discussing the pros and cons of both institutions and

In this particular study conducted on state funding per student in North Carolina, the funding of UNC
Chapel Hill (PWI), North Carolina A T (HBCU), and North Carolina Central University (HBCU) were
reviewed. The findings showed that UNC budgeted $27,826, A T $10,400 and NCCU $13,378 per
student. The larger size of PWIs means that more money is available for student programs and
activities. PWIs provide opportunities in a more mainstream environment and thus more realistically
mirror the real world. After four years of study at a PWI, students have the confidence and are
prepared to enter the real world as contributing members. This may be a very broad and generalized
claim, but there is documented evidence to back it up. Using black female students as an example,
journal article (what journal article???) stated the benefits for this group. It read, These articulate,
interpersonally adept women gained more from the academic experience on White campuses (Allen,
W.R.). Not every African American that enters a PWI will be able to succeed. Although the campus
itself may be conducive to their success based on the many advantages existing there, other challenges
may interfere with that success. Socially, these students may face difficulties as they strive to fit in and
belong: Students who successfully adapt, establish social relationships with Whites, adjust to Black
White cultural differences, and cope with college

Deaf Meeting Reflection
I walked into a room full of strange faces. No one bothered to look at me because they were so caught
up in their own conversations. There were multiple conversations going around while the room was
dead silent. Some people were signing about politics, how their day were going, and the new
upcoming events they were going to host. Each person had different facial expressions, which was so
intriguing; I simply could not focus on one person. As I looked around I saw all of the desks against
the wall and a big empty space between everyone. Representation was an important factor because
there was a huge bright poster that had several people demonstrating the proper way to sign the letters
of the alphabet. On the other side of the room they had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

can tune out annoying people. I immediately started to laugh because as a hearing person I cannot do
that unless I put on my earphones and have my music on full blast. He then continued, One of the
most interesting phenomenon of society is language. In my point of view I love how my culture uses
hand signs and body gestures in order to communicate. Many deaf people are proud of their roots
because all cultures have their own set of behaviors that are acceptable. For the deaf community, it
includes getting someone s attention appropriately and using direct eye contact. Though deaf people
face many struggles and judgement here in the United States, many deaf individuals refuse to get a
cochlear implant because they believe that they might lose an essential part of themselves, the identity
of being deaf. Deafness allows the deaf community to come together as a family; therefore, the

Essay about Early American Literature
Early American Literature (1620 1820)
In the first half of the 17th century the New World found two groups of people
colonizing. The first group, the Puritans, had left England after years of exile due to
their lack of faith in the Church of England. With the reading and understanding of the
Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced
to believe all the words that the preacher said. This all came to an end with John
Calvin.
His ideas were that God likes certain people better than others and those chosen
ones would get more land and more money. This idea took off with the Puritans as they
seeked religious freedom, a chance to start new churches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All education was basedon religion and through that there was no questioning of God.
Along with this, their faith was based of that of the super natural world. They could
not see God, but saw him through thingslike a prosperous harvest or a winter blizzard,
both of these in reaction to actions taken by the Puritans.
With this lack of deductive reasoning the Puritans would find themselves thinking
about things done wrong if there was a life threatening winter blizzard or reflect the
things that were done right in the event of a bountiful harvest. In my eyes the Putians
were did not just leave England in search of religious freedom, they were casually asked
to leave the country and were used to colonize land that England was interested in.
Much like religious cults of today, they were against major religious beliefs of the
church and looked upon as radicals in their beliefs. Then, coming out, beheld a
space the flame consume my dwelling place. And when I could no longer look, I blest His
name that gave and took. A quote of this nature in modern day society would be
followed by the thought of radical nature in the person saying it. Things may have
changed as far as social acceptance goes, but I see the Puritans as outcasts of the
society in England.

Why We Should Not Raise Active Screen Time
In many ways I m a normal teenager. One way i m not a normal teenager is I play too many video
games. In fact after school I play 1 or 2 video games. During school if i have time I play games on my
phone. I think from all the videogames I play that my grades have dropped some not much but a little.
If we go over the amount of screen time then it could affect us later in life. If we have too much screen
time then the prefrontal cortex won t tell us if something is bad or good because the prefrontal is not
developed fully. The American Academy of Pediatrics should not raise the recommended screen time
from 2 to 4 hours. Your prefrontal cortex isn t fully developed until you re 20, so if you re online you
can make more bad decisions. The prefrontal cortex matures later than other parts of your brain so you
could make bad decisions(Scholastic). If your prefrontal cortex matures later than you will make more
bad decisions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The AAP should not raise the active screen time from 2 to 4. Neurons are another reason why we
should not raise the screen time. Neurons help us make decisions. In order for your brain to make
decisions, tiny specialized cells talk with each other through a series of neurotransmitters like a circuit
in a computer(Scholastic). If the tiny cells don t talk then we could make a bad decision online. White
matter is called myelin, and it coats the neurons and makes them communicate more effectively to
make the connection better, the axons wrap themselves in myelin through a process called
myelination(Knox). If we play too many video games or have too much screen time than are
communication could become worse and we could make more mistakes online. The neurons are
another reason why we should raise the screen time. Neurons will make us make bad decisions online

Browning s Sonnet 13, By Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In Sonnet 13 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the beloved wants the speaker to transcribe the feelings
that she has for him in a sonnet. However, even though she knows that her feelings are real, she is not
yet comfortable with declaring her love in such a way. In her sonnet, Browning compares what she is
feeling to a lit torch in rough winds: And hold the torch out, while the winds are rough, / Between our
faces, to cast light on each? / I drop it at thy feet (3 5). In this metaphor, the torch acts to enlighten
what is between both Browning and her beloved. Except, with external forces (such as the rough
winds) battling against her increasing emotions, she feels as though she must focus on protecting her
feelings. By the end of this quote, Browning drops the torch, thus representing the fact that she can t
go through with describing what she feels for her beloved. Ultimately, she tells her love, My hand to
hold my spirit so far off / From myself me that I should bring thee proof / In words, of love hid in me
out of reach (6 8). Here, she states that she can t go through with risking herself. For now, he will have
to settle with silence as his only answer. Simply by evaluating Browning s response, we can see how
much she cares for her beloved. First off, she worries about the possibility of risking or changing the
strong emotions she has. Additionally, she believes that, given her profoundly heartfelt emotions, she
will not be able to accurately depict their significance.

Street vendors fill the air with the smell of bacon wrapped hot dogs, their whistles and antojitos

Informal economies such as street vendors in East Los Angeles are a part of the landscape. They

often confiscate the property and goods of the vendors leaving them destitute.
We know that the city has been designed mainly for the car and this auto centricity has created
serious health issues including air pollution and discouraging people from walking.
One urban planner has looked at how this informal economy actually helps to promote the walk
ability and pedestrian friendly streets in Los Angeles. James Rojas makes the case that any
restrictions will actually be creating a worse situation in an already car congested city.
Allowing street vendors the opportunity to profit from the use of public rights of way could be
a new way to make L.A. s increasingly unsustainable, auto oriented infrastructure more
compatible for pedestrian uses.
This is a non traditional way of creating space and more ,place making, if you will which Rojas
has coined, Latino Urbanism, the creative culture and adaptation that exists as an informal
urban design element. Latinos are not remaking these places in the sense of construction; they
are instead discovering latent place ness in landscapes that already

The Four Types Of Operant Conditioning
Operant conditioning is a type of learning which occurs through either receiving reinforcement or
punishment for a behavior. This type of learning creates an association between a behavior and
consequence for that behavior. The four types of operant conditioning are positive reinforcement,
positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. If operant conditioning was
used properly it could be used to solve a variety of social and resource dilemmas; especially in the
case of the cattle ranchers and overgrazing.
Positive reinforcement is when a positive stimulus is added in hopes of increasing a behavior. This
could be that the ranchers are actually paid for not using the common land whose quality has begun to
deteriorate. By paying ranchers to use either their own land, or pay to use a different land, it would
give the common land pasture time to get in better condition. Also if you paid ranchers to only use
their own land, not only would the common land pasture increase in quality, but the rancher s land
would most likely stay in good condition because that land belongs to the racher. A huge problem with
the tragedy of the commons is that people abuse common resources because no one has ownership
over them; they are nonexcludable but rival, so everyone s use of those resources quickly depletes the
supply of it.
Negative reinforcement is when an aversive stimulus is taken away in order to increase behavior. If
the ranchers were already receiving annual

Ginseng tea has been the all time favorite of the Koreans as it is a medicinal herb. They have used it
for thousands of years and now Korea is the largest producer of ginseng in the world.
The active ingredient in ginseng is ginsenosides which is a unique compound found in the Panax
species. Asian and American ginseng contain different types and amounts of ginseng. The ginsenoside
profile also changes with the way the root is dried and the time it is harvested.
Panax group share some health benefits which we will look to in the following paragraphs.

(Ironically, the Exxon Mobil merger reassembled the legendary Standard Oil, John Rockefeller s
company. In 1911, antitrust authorities forced Standard Oil to break into two companies: Standard Oil
of New Jersey, which later became Exxon, and Standard Oil of New York, which later became Mobil.)
Nonetheless, the two companies had very different images in the oil industry. Mobil was seen as
having a combative feistiness, whereas Exxon had a relentlessly efficient stuffiness. 5 Because of the
size of the companies, the merger was scrutinized by antitrust regulators and, in order to complete the
merger, both companies had to get rid of certain operations, including almost 2,500 service stations in
the United States and Europe. By the mere fact that a growing population of environmentally
concerned people worldwide was skeptical of large oil companies and their promotion of fossil fuel

fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving cross dressing and b) the fantasies, sexual urges, or
behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important

cross dressing behavior, results suggest that sexual arousal to cross dressing is rare, but could be
associated with potentially criminal paraphilic sexual behavior such as voyeuristic and exhibitionistic
acts, and there was a non significant trend suggesting that childhood sexual victimization was related

Kingfisher airlines ranks second with 20% market share. NACIL (National Aviation Company
Limited) which, was formed in 2007 with the merger of two national carriers Air India and Indian

The airline with the largest fleet in the domestic market is Air India, but its market share of the number
of passengers is low, and therefore results in a low fleet hare to passenger share ratio of 0.62.
Kingfisher leads the full service carrier segment with a fleet to market share ratio of 0.95, but this also
includes figures from their low cost Kingfisher Red service. Passenger market share leader Jet
Airways is at 0.82 and this includes their low fare service Jet Konnect.
For a better comparison between Jet and Kingfisher, if we add up the numbers of Jet s other low fare
subsidiary JetLite, the total group ratio of Jet at 0.865 still remains well behind Kingfisher s 0.95,
suggesting a far more aggressive fleet utilisation strategy by Kingfisher.
Expectedly, the low fare carrier side shows much higher ratios, due to their higher usage of aircraft
and also the higher number of seats offered per flight due to an all economy configuration. The
laggard is JetLite with a ratio of 1 while SpiceJet and IndiGo are neck and neck at 1.75 and

2. Define the possible ethical legal issues involved without bias or embellishment
3. Refer accessible ethical legal guidelines e.g., NASP s Principles for Professional Ethics, 4. Consult
with superiors and colleagues and individuals familiar with the legal and ethical guiding principle that

Disinhibition hypothesis also suggest that aggression in viewers might be stimulated by on screen
violence. When people witness a violent media event, it activates thoughts or ideas about violence
which stays with them for a period of time. According to Strasburger and Wilson, (2009) this is a
process known as cognitive priming , whereby violent stimuli can elicit aggressive motor tendencies
in a viewer. Futher supported by Bandura (1963), exposure to media violence weakens a child s

It is assumed by Gunter and McAleer (1997) that youths, being susceptible, are more inclined to learn
from behaviors performed by TV characters and copy such actions. Imitation of on screen violence is
especially prevalent when these youths believe that violence is useful and appropriate for overcoming
problems or when trying to emulate on screen characters.

Galileo Galilei s Life
Galileo Galilei was one of the most famous Italian scantest in the world. He was born on 15 of
February 1564. He was interested in physics, mathematics and astronomy. He wrote a lot of books
about these subjects which has impact in many aspects on human lives. This essay will tell about
Galileo Galilei life, then about what did he invent, after that I will tell about his theory.
Firstly, Galileo Galilei was born in (Pisa). His father, Vincenzo Galilei was a musician and his mother
was Giulio degli Ammannati. They was belonged to the nobility but they was not rich. He studied in
the University of Pisa and his father would like him to study medicine but he learned physics. In 1592

He continued to be involved in scientific discussions and continued writing. In 1623, he published his
book The Assayer Il Saggiatore, which was a great attack on the Aristotelian philosophers who base
their theories on Aristotle s authority rather than their observations. In this book Galileo claimed that
the language of nature s book is mathematics and that the way to understand nature is through
mathematics. The book was highly successful, even with the new Pope Urbanus XIII, and among the
higher echelons of the Christian church. Encouraged by his success, Galileo began writing his
comprehensive book on the Copernican theory, The Dialogue A Bout Two Ch ief World Systems,
which was published in 1632. The book presents the claims favoring the Copernican theory and shows
that the motion of the earth is possible. The book is full of harsh attacks against Aristotelian

Arguments Against Transracial Adoption
Families don t have to match, you don t have to look like someone to love them. Leigh Anne Tuoghy a
small white southern women made this unflinching statement to address negative commentary that
was directed toward her adoptive son, who was very largely built and African American. With her
standing up and publically addressing the love of her son it allowed many people to start to embrace
transracial adoption after being frowned upon by many people who believe that children should not be
adopted by parents who are of a different race. In the 1920s the matching adoption policy was created
to match children to have the same biological make up. The greatest thing about transracial adopting is
knowing that there was a child who would need a home and a support system, no matter what ... Show

With adoption being viewed in such a positive light there are still some people who are strongly
against transracial adopting and some of their reason are because they believe that the child will lose
their identity. Is the race of the child more important than the love that the child will receive? While
observing transracial adopting there are many point of view that you have to factor in, but there is only
one that matters and that is the love of the child.
President Theodore Roosevelt created the Progressive Movement to increase the improvement of child
welfare. In the 1850s many informal adopts began to take place after war because many families were
killed in the war leaving the children parentless this allow many people to advantage of the children
by making them slaves because they were naïve. His plan of child welfare was very successful this

Ethnicity As A Key Determinant Of Voting Behavior
Hypothesis
While ethnicity is not mono causal to determining voting behaviour, the focus of this study is the
consistency of ethnicity as a key determinant of voting behaviour in Ghana, particularly, in the Volta
and Ashanti Regions. This dissertation posits that ethnicity is a consistent key determinant of voting
behaviour in Ghana, and this is because ethnicity is enshrined within the political arrangements of the
country (Oelbaum, 2007, pp. 242 273). There are two main ethnic blocs which give rise under the
essence of absolute majority electoral system, to a two dominant party system (Ayelazuno, 2011, pp.
22 48). These ethnic blocs are the Voltarians from the Volta Region, and the Ashantis from the Ashanti
Region (Arthur, 2009, pp. 46 51).
In Ghana, there are nearly ninety ethnic groups, and language is the core ethnic marker (Arthur, 2009,
p. 50). The electoral system provides a strong incentive to the two dominant parties, the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to engage in crude ethnic politics to
win, even when they have lost in the majority of the regions (Ayelazuno, 2011, p. 47). As this system
has reified ethnicity, political parties that transcend ethnicity are doomed in a country where the ethnic
groups are quite aware of their differences (Ayelazuno, 2011, pp. 22 36).
Research Aims
In order to arrive at a coherent conclusion, the principal aim is sub divided into three aims: Research
aim one (RA1) defines ethnicity, and

2 Be able to assess performance against objectives and provide feedback
2.1 Evaluate individual and team performance against objectives
Performance management is the integration of employee development with results based assessment
(HANNAGAN, 2008) p358
A comprehensive appraisal system encompasses performance appraisal, objective setting for
individual and/or teams, training and skills development programmes.
These appraisal systems normally have some or all of the following objectives
a) To provide a view or inventory of the organisations people, their skills and their potential.
b) To provide a mechanism for evaluation and assessment of performance of individuals and teams in
order they may be appropriately rewarded.
c) To provide the individual or team with feedback relating to strengths and weaknesses.
d) To help the individual and team to understand, think about and plan objectives and ways of
achieving them.
Within our group, the companies have implemented systems which attempt to achieve all four of these
objectives simultaneously, (HANDY,1999)p225 suggests they are not all psychologically compatible,
also some of these objectives are more difficult to achieve than others c)

Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Moveable Feast
Life stories are immensely important because they allow us to see different perspectives, and to
understand in more depth the subject and society. These stories enable us to gain more knowledge and
to understand the perspective and values a certain person had, or still has. A great example of this is
Ernest Hemingway s memoir, A Moveable Feast. This memoir allows us to understand Hemingway in
more depth in his younger years, and helps us understand how he wrote and why he wrote. Life stories
Ernest Hemingway is regarded as one of the best American authors of all time. This memoir focusses
on his early career, and his time in Paris. It flows in chronological order, and covers his months in
Paris. Throughout the novel, we meet many notable people such as; F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda
Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein and James Joyce. This allows the reader to appreciate the background of
these authors, and recognize what has influenced them within their novels. Hemingway has said many
times that this period in his life affected him, and influenced his future decisions in life. This
demonstrates why we should read life stories, as they can provide insight into the subject.
A memoir is structurally different than an autobiography or biography as it only covers a brief period
in the subject s life, while a biography usually covers the subject s entire life. It focusses on the brief
period when Hemingway and his wife Hadley lived in Paris. They are chronological, and conclude

Improving Capital Access Programs Within The Sba
On May 19, 2015, a hearing in the 114th congress was held. The Subcommittee on Economic Growth,
Tax and Capital Access (of the Committee on Small Business) entitled Improving Capital Access
Programs within the SBA , discussed ways to give more money to its veteran entrepreneurs. This
would be done by changing the loan process within the Small Business Administration. The House
report gives the following testimony from, a lender authorized to operate in the Loan Program that the
initiative would help SBA guaranteed lenders get needed capital to veterans, (p.4 HR). This is where
the idea was planted and then it was assigned by the speaker, Mr. John Boehner, to the House
Committee on Small Business.
Introduced May 21, 2015, Representative Steve Chabot, Chairman of the Small Business Committee,
recommended to increase access to capital for veteran entrepreneurs. This act was named the Veterans
Entrepreneurship Act of 2015. Along with Rep Chabot were six cosponsors in the House: Rep Mike
Bost (IL), Rep Carlos Curbelo (FL), Rep Christopher Gibson (NY), Rep Richard Hanna (NY), Rep
Steve Knight (CA), and Rep Tom Rice (SC). All six gentlemen are republicans and members of the
House Committee on Small Business. There are 24 members in the committee, ten of which are
democrats; six out of fourteen republicans sponsored this Act. There are currently no female
republicans on this committee. This means that most republicans on the Committee are in favor of

Fast Food Advertising and Childhood Obesity
Fast Food Advertising And Childhood Obesity
A rise in obesity has been observed in the United States in the last two decades. Obesity is one
problem that gives birth to numerous fatal diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, and depression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a
survey and found that, More than one third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or 12.5
million) of children and adolescents aged 2 19 years are obese (Ogden, Carroll). One of the main
reasons behind obesity is the American s love for fast food. Fast food contains only a small proportion
of essential nutrients, and is loaded with unhealthy and non essential nutrients which do nothing but ...

The similar advertising bans already exist in some jurisdictions such as in Quebec (Canada) and few
Scandinavian countries (Dhar, Baylis 7). Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned commercial
sponsorship of children s programs. Sweden also does not permit any television advertising targeting
children under the age of twelve (Role of Media). Quebec s 32 years ban on advertising to children
had led to $88 million annual reduction in expenditures on fast food and 13.4 billion to 18.4 billion
fewer fast food calories being consumed per year (Dhar, Baylis 2 10). Residents of Quebec have a
very sedentary life, yet their obesity rate is comparatively lesser than the US. These figures indicate
that the sanction on fast food advertisement can prove effective in lowering or curbing fast food
consumption in the United States as well. A larger proportion of the US population leads a very active
life. An active life combined with the proper and healthy diet may lead to significant reduction in the
obesity rates. Media and entertainment giant Walt Disney Co s has already banned junk food
advertisements during its TV, radio and other online programs intended for children under the age of
12 (Heavey).
Lawmakers and other opponents of this campaign may not agree to the effects of advertising on
children and may

The Purpose Of Flashback
Dare to Dream begins with my all time favorite film technique Flash Back. The women start by going
by into the 80 s looking a photographs of themselves taking it back to where it all started. Flashbacks
gives us visual information that cant be shown to us in any other way. The purpose of the flashback is
to connect the past with the present to show give an insight of the characters to show whats going on
moving forward. The flashbacks takes us back in history in where they were stereotyping women in
sports to what they were willing to do and endured during the time. It shows how this group of
outstanding women elevated soccer to the level of achieving World Cup victories and greater
viewership than for any other soccer match in U.S. history.

The Wonderful World Of Disney
Marian Mimi Sesay
ENGL 101
Professor Burrus
October 2nd 2015
Welcome to the most wonderful racist world of Disney The wonderful world of Disney is synonymous
with fairy tales, adventure, and happily ever after. Disney makes dreams come true and makes us wish
upon a star. And apart from its entertaining purposes, the world of Disney is a learning medium in
which kids can learn about ethics, values and self image. The world of Disney over time has become a
persuasive form in which children can learn about the world around them. However, The world of
Disney teaches messages to children that exceed the boundaries of childhood culture. Many of Disney
movies and television shows portray people of color in stereotypical fashion and its attempt in
diversity exemplifies the ideals of colorblindness.
In the past years, Disney television shows have been trying to embody the whole concept of
multiculturalism and the idea of inclusiveness. There have been diverse representations of people of
colored as cast members in many of Disney television shows. Shows like That s so Raven and Cory in
the House are about black families with diverse casts. Diversity in cast is also seen in shows like
Wizards of Waverly place, Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up. This racial diversity of Disney
television shows is seen as a step towards the eradication of racism and the adoption of
multiculturalism in television. This is however misleading as Disney s idea of racial diversity in their

A New Year At An Unforgettable Year
January 1, 2016. The ball dropped at midnight like it does every year, and people around the world
cheered on the coming of the new year. For most, a new year equals new opportunities, improvement,
and overall, hopes for a better year than the previous one. I was one of the people that thought this on
that particular New Years. 2015 hadn t been the greatest year of my life, so that meant 2016 would
have to be better. As much as I wanted that and wished it were true, it wasn t at all. On New Year s
Day 2016, my grandpa was admitted into the hospital, and the months following were a roller coaster
of highs and lows that made 2016 an unforgettable year for many not so great reasons. During the
summer of 2015, my Grandpa Mert was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This particular type of cancer
is usually very treatable and is something you just live with, so it didn t worry our family too much.
Toward the end of the year, however, things started changing. On New Years Day, my grandpa was
admitted to the hospital for the flu, and the flu turned into pneumonia, and we found out later it was all
because of his cancer. He had tried one round of chemotherapy, but the treatment made his body so
weak that it couldn t fight off other viruses, like the flu and pneumonia. He ended up staying in the
hospital on and off (mostly on) for just over a month, and even had to spend his 75th birthday in the
hospital. As his health progressively worsened and his body became weaker, he

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Black Money
In an attempt to reduce black money, Prime minister Narendra Modi has withdrawn two major
currency denominations Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes. This change has resulted in a boost in digital
means of transactions. At the same time there are a lot more ramifications for the larger public.
OBJECTIVES
Stop cash funded terrorism.
Reforms:Banking sector needs.
Curb black money.
Move towards cashless economy.
Other than the expected results, few interesting changes has occurred due to this initiative. Like, barter
system is making a comeback in rural India with the demonetization drive. According to the Wall
Street Journal a trader in Orissa gave a kilo of potatoes and cauliflower in exchange for half a kilo of
honey. Another interesting observation was people selling their old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on eBay
and OLX. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within 7 days of of announcement of demonetization, Paytm has witnessed over 7 million transactions
worth Rs 120 crore a day.
DISADVANTAGES
The biggest disadvantage of demonetization is the chaos among public since everybody wants to get
rid of demonetized notes.
Removing the old currency from the economy and printing new ones enough to replace the old ones
is an expensive process, to be funded by the government. If the benefit derived by demonetization is
not enough to put off this cost, it will end up giving negative results.
Another problem is that majority of times this move is targeted towards black money but if people
have not kept cash as their black money and rotated or used that money in other asset classes like real
estate, gold and so on then there is no guarantee that demonetization will help in catching corrupt
people.
Despite the efforts taken, black money is already back in the economy in the form of new
currencies. So the long term benefits that we are aiming for may not actually be achieved by this

Monopolistic Literature Review
Quality and product variety in a monopolistic screening model with nearly rational consumers is an
article written by Suren Basov of The Department of Economics. This article is about monopolistic,
where the author assumed that the producer is a monopoly. In this article, the author s main focus is on
the case when the irrationality parameter is small in comparison with the characteristic utility
differentials but large in the comparison with flavor proliferation costs.
In this paper, the author considers a model with two types of consumers. The quality preferred and the
variety preferred consumers. The author assumes that the consumers are nearly rational. Also the
author assumes that the consumers only care on the quality of the goods and not preferred to the flavor
of the goods. Despite of that preference from the consumer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The author graphs the interaction between quality and variety of the goods using an oligopolistic
market, where the consumer tastes are differentiated. Along with the vertical dimension is the quality
of the goods while in the horizontal dimension is the flavor of the goods. The correlation between the
quality and variety depends on the way the goods enter to consumer s utility, joint distribution and
their market structure. That makes it impossible to come up with a clear prediction.
The author organized this article in six sections. The first (1) section is the introduction, where the
author introduces his study and tells some points or information about his paper. The second (2)
section is where the author remind its readers about the Luce model of probabilistic choice. Luce
showed from his proposal that if one requires that choice probabilities, it does not depend on a
sequence in which choices are made the choice probabilities represented. Also, in this section the
author will discuss the Luce s main properties and introduce the measure of bounded rationality in the

Organ Trafficking In China Research Paper

Organ Trafficking in China The ever escalating amounts of organ trafficking in China have reached an
all time high with the number rising to 10,000 black market operations occurring annually (Gianotti).
This equates to more than one transplant operation per hour with thousands of people being tricked or
forced (whether by situation or poverty) into selling their organs for money or even having them
stolen. China has a high rate of all forms of human trafficking that is continuing to rise as a gradually
growing problem without anything to slow it down. Organ trafficking is not excluded from this, and

The Stereotypes Of Discrimination In The Workplace
Infringement of people s rights because of their race, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation is a
common phenomenon. This phenomenon contradicts the eternal aspirations of humanity to freedom,
equality, and justice. In labor relations, the most important rights that affected are the right to equal
access to work, equal pay for equal work, equal chances of promotion, protection from
unemployment, etc. Therefore, it is so important to talk about discrimination in labor relations, and not
only talk, but look for ways to protect those categories of citizens who are discriminated against.
Discrimination in the labor market is a widespread process that can be defined as the unequal
opportunities of workers with equal productivity, or the unequal treatment of employers, society, and
the state. Labor discrimination can be experienced both by individual workers and by their specific
groups. In our case, it is LGBT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Synthesis and Characterization of Zn(Tpp) and Cu(Tpp) Synthesis and Characterization of Zn(TPP) and Cu(TPP) Complexes 1 Project Summary The overall goal of the project is to synthesize two metalloporhyrins, (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)zinc(II) and (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)copper(II). Because metalloporphyrins occur naturally in hemoglobin and chlorophyll, their study has implications in synthesizing human blood as well as utilizing its ability to convert visible light to energy. In addition to these two applications, metalloporhyrins are utilized in supramolecular studies, are being researched for potential photodynamic therapy, and are used in building electronics on the molecular scale. While Zinc and Copper may not be the basis of chlorophyll or hemoglobin, by studying any metalloporhyrin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to its highly conjugated structure, hematoporphyrin absorbs most strongly at around 640 nm, a wavelength that penetrates deeply into living tissue. Newer photodynamic therapy agents, including others based around porphyrin, absorb between 650 850 nm, thus allowing for deeper penetration of activating radiation into tissues.4 According to a study by Wormald et al.,5 another 3 porphyrin based compound, known commercially as verteporfin, also shows promise in the treatment of macular degeneration by selectively halting the growth of harmful blood vessels under the retina. The photochemical and optical properties of porphyrin compounds have also made them a target of research in the field of molecular electronics. One goal of this research has been to produce improved optoelectronic devices such as photovoltaic cells, OLEDs and OFETs by imitating the early steps of photosynthesis. 3 The high thermal and photostabilities of porphyrin compounds also contribute to their appeal in the field of material science. Supramolecular structures of porphyrin compounds have also been studied for their electrical properties, and have been used to build nanoarchitectures and molecular assemblies ranging in length from several nanometers to the millimeter scale.1 This particular project focuses on two metalloporphyrins: (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)zinc(II) (Zn(TPP)) and (Tetraphenylporphyrinato)copper(II) (Cu(TPP)). • 3. Jem Coming Of Age Essay To Destroy a Camellia Bush Wouldn t you have a feeling of repulsion for an old lady who is always talking down to you? To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee introduces the story of two siblings, Scout and Jem, growing up in a racial society. Jem, Scout s sister, undergoes many coming of age experiences. One of the coming of age experiences Jem has faced is when he has to do a favor for Mrs. Dubose, the old lady Scout and Jem don t like and who is also a morphine addict. Jem s coming of age experience is developed by Mrs. Dubose through Conflict, Irony, and Imagery. To start with, the first coming of age experience Jem faces is Conflict. In chapter 11 of To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Mrs. Dubose have a person vs. person external conflict with each other. Referring back to the book, it says She put her hand to her mouth. When she drew it away, it trailed a long silver thread of saliva. Your fathers no better than the niggers and trash he works for! (P.117) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dubose through the author s use of Conflict, Irony, and Imagery. Jem s coming of age experience develops when he gets furious with Mrs. Dubose s attitude towards him and his family, but then realizes why she s always been a rude, old lady through Atticus s explanation. It also develops when Jem is asked to read to Mrs. Dubose which is something that was very unexpected. His coming of age experience develops when Jem and Scout are with Mrs. Dubose closer than they ever have been with her. The point, though is Jem and Scout think of Mrs. Dubose as an old, horrible lady and they don t really like her for what she has done to them and their family. After they discover an explanation from Atticus saying that the things she does is all because of her morphine addiction, they start to understand why does so. If people knew about Mrs. Dubose s problem and her addiction, then maybe they wouldn t think of her as the old lady they think of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Essay About The Maze The Maize Maze Diego Villada Youel As I crawled in the back of my dad s truck, ready to go to the corn maze, my stomach felt like it had a hundred butterflies were trying to get out. About halfway to the corn maze my stomach felt like the butterflies that we re trying to storm out had ten babies each, that we re now trying to burst out like fireworks. I could taste the dirt under my nails when I was chewing them due to the tizzy feeling I had about what was going to happen in the maze. Finally, after what felt like a week before I arrived to the farm we hopped in line to buy tickets for the maze. I heard screams coming from the maze and the butterflies flew away, but, pigeons took their place and I felt like puking. I heard people, coming out of the maze talking about their favorite parts. One of them announced their favorite was when she was chased by the man with a chainsaw. Just the thought of being chased made me want to curl up in a ball, find a nice hiding place and never come out. On the other hand, I undoubtedly wanted to mosey through the maze, to show my brother and sister that I could make it through the maze and not appear as scared as them. After getting our tickets, we hopped in line for the maze. In the rear of the line, we talked and took pictures. There were about twenty people in front of us, but, In no time we were at the front of the line. As soon as our tickets were checked, we walked into the maze and it smelled like hay and corn. • 5. Predominantly White Institutions vs Historically Black... Predominately White Institutions and the Reasons they are Worth the Time and Money It was only a year ago when I was faced with making a very important decision that would affect me for the rest of my life. It was time for me to choose an institution of higher learning to continue my studies that would eventually lead me to my career. My decision wasn t simply which university or college to choose, but as a young black student, whether to choose a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or a Predominately White Institution (PWI). This would take me on an insightful journey and I would make my decision after discussing the pros and cons of both institutions and through interactions with students, faculty and staff. Before too long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this particular study conducted on state funding per student in North Carolina, the funding of UNC Chapel Hill (PWI), North Carolina A T (HBCU), and North Carolina Central University (HBCU) were reviewed. The findings showed that UNC budgeted $27,826, A T $10,400 and NCCU $13,378 per student. The larger size of PWIs means that more money is available for student programs and activities. PWIs provide opportunities in a more mainstream environment and thus more realistically mirror the real world. After four years of study at a PWI, students have the confidence and are prepared to enter the real world as contributing members. This may be a very broad and generalized claim, but there is documented evidence to back it up. Using black female students as an example, journal article (what journal article???) stated the benefits for this group. It read, These articulate, interpersonally adept women gained more from the academic experience on White campuses (Allen, W.R.). Not every African American that enters a PWI will be able to succeed. Although the campus itself may be conducive to their success based on the many advantages existing there, other challenges may interfere with that success. Socially, these students may face difficulties as they strive to fit in and belong: Students who successfully adapt, establish social relationships with Whites, adjust to Black White cultural differences, and cope with college ... There were multiple conversations going around while the room was dead silent. Some people were signing about politics, how their day were going, and the new upcoming events they were going to host. Each person had different facial expressions, which was so intriguing; I simply could not focus on one person. As I looked around I saw all of the desks against the wall and a big empty space between everyone. I immediately started to laugh because as a hearing person I cannot do that unless I put on my earphones and have my music on full blast. He then continued, One of the most interesting phenomenon of society is language. In my point of view I love how my culture uses hand signs and body gestures in order to communicate. Many deaf people are proud of their roots because all cultures have their own set of behaviors that are acceptable. For the deaf community, it includes getting someone s attention appropriately and using direct eye contact. Though deaf people face many struggles and judgement here in the United States, many deaf individuals refuse to get a cochlear implant because they believe that they might lose an essential part of themselves, the identity of being deaf. • 7. Essay about Early American Literature Early American Literature (1620 1820) In the first half of the 17th century the New World found two groups of people colonizing. The first group, the Puritans, had left England after years of exile due to their lack of faith in the Church of England. With the reading and understanding of the Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced to believe all the words that the preacher said. This all came to an end with John Calvin. His ideas were that God likes certain people better than others and those chosen ones would get more land and more money. They could not see God, but saw him through thingslike a prosperous harvest or a winter blizzard, both of these in reaction to actions taken by the Puritans. With this lack of deductive reasoning the Puritans would find themselves thinking about things done wrong if there was a life threatening winter blizzard or reflect the things that were done right in the event of a bountiful harvest. In my eyes the Putians were did not just leave England in search of religious freedom, they were casually asked to leave the country and were used to colonize land that England was interested in. During school if i have time I play games on my phone. I think from all the videogames I play that my grades have dropped some not much but a little. If we go over the amount of screen time then it could affect us later in life. If we have too much screen time then the prefrontal cortex won t tell us if something is bad or good because the prefrontal is not developed fully. • 10. Browning s Sonnet 13, By Elizabeth Barrett Browning In Sonnet 13 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the beloved wants the speaker to transcribe the feelings that she has for him in a sonnet. However, even though she knows that her feelings are real, she is not yet comfortable with declaring her love in such a way. In her sonnet, Browning compares what she is feeling to a lit torch in rough winds: And hold the torch out, while the winds are rough, / Between our faces, to cast light on each? / I drop it at thy feet (3 5). In this metaphor, the torch acts to enlighten what is between both Browning and her beloved. Except, with external forces (such as the rough winds) battling against her increasing emotions, she feels as though she must focus on protecting her feelings. By the end of this quote, Browning drops the torch, thus representing the fact that she can t go through with describing what she feels for her beloved. Ultimately, she tells her love, My hand to hold my spirit so far off / From myself me that I should bring thee proof / In words, of love hid in me out of reach (6 8). Here, she states that she can t go through with risking herself. For now, he will have to settle with silence as his only answer. Simply by evaluating Browning s response, we can see how much she cares for her beloved. First off, she worries about the possibility of risking or changing the strong emotions she has. Additionally, she believes that, given her profoundly heartfelt emotions, she will not be able to accurately depict their significance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One urban planner has looked at how this informal economy actually helps to promote the walk ability and pedestrian friendly streets in Los Angeles. James Rojas makes the case that any restrictions will actually be creating a worse situation in an already car congested city. Allowing street vendors the opportunity to profit from the use of public rights of way could be a new way to make L.A. s increasingly unsustainable, auto oriented infrastructure more compatible for pedestrian uses.

  • 13. The Four Types Of Operant Conditioning Operant conditioning is a type of learning which occurs through either receiving reinforcement or punishment for a behavior. This type of learning creates an association between a behavior and consequence for that behavior. The four types of operant conditioning are positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. If operant conditioning was used properly it could be used to solve a variety of social and resource dilemmas; especially in the case of the cattle ranchers and overgrazing. Positive reinforcement is when a positive stimulus is added in hopes of increasing a behavior. This could be that the ranchers are actually paid for not using the common land whose quality has begun to deteriorate. By paying ranchers to use either their own land, or pay to use a different land, it would give the common land pasture time to get in better condition. Also if you paid ranchers to only use their own land, not only would the common land pasture increase in quality, but the rancher s land would most likely stay in good condition because that land belongs to the racher. A huge problem with the tragedy of the commons is that people abuse common resources because no one has ownership over them; they are nonexcludable but rival, so everyone s use of those resources quickly depletes the supply of it. Negative reinforcement is when an aversive stimulus is taken away in order to increase behavior. If the ranchers were already receiving annual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethnicity As A Key Determinant Of Voting Behavior Hypothesis While ethnicity is not mono causal to determining voting behaviour, the focus of this study is the consistency of ethnicity as a key determinant of voting behaviour in Ghana, particularly, in the Volta and Ashanti Regions. This dissertation posits that ethnicity is a consistent key determinant of voting behaviour in Ghana, and this is because ethnicity is enshrined within the political arrangements of the country (Oelbaum, 2007, pp. 242 273). There are two main ethnic blocs which give rise under the essence of absolute majority electoral system, to a two dominant party system (Ayelazuno, 2011, pp. 22 48). These ethnic blocs are the Voltarians from the Volta Region, and the Ashantis from the Ashanti Region (Arthur, 2009, pp. 46 51). In Ghana, there are nearly ninety ethnic groups, and language is the core ethnic marker (Arthur, 2009, p. 50). The electoral system provides a strong incentive to the two dominant parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to engage in crude ethnic politics to win, even when they have lost in the majority of the regions (Ayelazuno, 2011, p. 47). As this system has reified ethnicity, political parties that transcend ethnicity are doomed in a country where the ethnic groups are quite aware of their differences (Ayelazuno, 2011, pp. 22 36).
