American Football Enforcing Rules
Are the NFL and NCAA enforcing rules that make American football TOO safe? Over the years these
organizations have gradually changed the way football is being played. The changes have mostly been
made to keep players safe and make the game less violent. With all these rule changes some people
think it is taking the fun away from the game. American Football has become a sport that is classified
as too soft compared to what it used to be. The way football is played has been thoroughly changed
over the years. Football used to be a sport where the defense was much more involved in many
different scenarios and stops. Nowadays you cannot tackle aiming for the chest, head, or just a
defenseless player in general, leading with the helmet of your gear. This rule is called targeting, and it
was implemented to the game in 2013. Many players and coaches believe that this rule has made
tackling too beneficial for the offense, as well as giving them a very safe field to play on. Since
football has been changed to become more of a game that the offense controls, there has been much
more scoring. Scoring gets the offense on each team on and off the field ... Show more content on

Since all these new rules are being enforced a number of times a referee calls a penalty in each game
has increased. Many people believe this makes the game less exciting because there aren t as many big
hits on offensive players in each game, something that the crowd would stand up and cheer for.
Generally, this slows down the defense giving them a much harder task in stopping the offense and is
disliked by many players. Players and coaches agree that referees call a penalty on almost any hard
hitting tackle, so the players are now being taught and coached differently than before. This alters their
playing style, keeping the game much safer. Referees have been calling too many penalties which are
resulting in games that are too

Essay on Freedom of Cyber-Speech
Freedom of Cyber Speech
Freedom of speech has always been an important issue in American society. With the advent of the
Internet as a high speed communication device, this issue has become even more prominent in recent
years. This paper will explore the issue of whether the Internet should be censored. Additionally, it
will investigate possible methods for undertaking this censorship.
Since 1787, the Constitution has been integral part of American society. The First Amendment to the
Constitution, passed in 1791, reads:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of ... Show more content on

This leads to two key questions that the American society must confront in the upcoming years:
Should the Internet be censored? If so, how can the Internet be censored?
There are many types of information on the Internet that can easily be found that can be considered
harmful or dangerous. Among these include:
* Pornography: There are an overwhelming number of pornographic sites available on the Internet. In
fact, a recent study has shown that approximately one out ever fifty websites contains sexually explicit
material.[2] Many people consider this to be harmful in at least one of several ways. For one, it can be
harmful to the viewers of the pornography. Also, it may cause mental or moral damage to the people
actually in the pornography. Additionally, the protection of children from Internet pornography is an
important issue. In recent times, many children have become more computer savvy than their parents.
With the power of the Internet, many children have the ability to easily view pornography. One
example of a well known pornography site is www.whitehouse.com.
*
* Hate Speech: Many hate groups, including Neo Nazis, the KKK, and others, have web pages on the
Internet. These pages often promote hatred, racism, and violence, and it is obvious how such messages
can be damaging to a society. Many people consider these messages to be injurious because they fear
that the promotion of

Thurmond Rule Pros And Cons
The Thurmond Rule is an informal and somewhat amorphous rule in the United States Senate
regarding confirmations of judicial nominees. While it originated with former Senator Strom
Thurmond s opposition to President Lyndon Johnson s nomination of Justice Abe Fortas to be Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court in June 1968, the specifics of the rule vary between sources. Thurmond
himself said that no lifetime judicial appointments should move in the last six months or so of a lame
duck presidency.[1] In the last year of George W. Bush s second term Democratic Senator Patrick
Leahy stated the rule as meaning judicial nominations do not advance in the Senate in the latter part of
a presidential election year without the support of Senate leaders ... Show more content on

For example, Senator Leahy rejected the rule in the closing months of the Democratic Clinton
administration,[3] but later invoked the rule in the last months of the Republican Bush administration
as noted above. In March 2008, Leahy wrote a letter to Bush stating I urge you to work with senators
from other states, as well, so that we might make progress before time runs out on your presidency
and the Thurmond rule precludes additional confirmations. [2] In June 2012, however, Leahy said it is
troubling to hear Senate Republicans already talking about how they plan to resort to the Thurmond
Rule to shut down all judicial confirmations for the rest of the year. [4] In 2004, Republican Senator
Orrin Hatch dismissed the rule: Strom Thurmond unilaterally on his own ... when he was chairman
could say whatever he wanted to, but that didn t bind the whole committee, and it doesn t bind me. [5]
Some Senators profess ignorance of the rule; asked about its meaning, Senator Trent Lott wondered if
it had to do with how long a Senator should remain in the chamber, given Thurmond s recordsetting

Causes Of The German PeasantsRevolts
The crop failure of the early sixteenth century created intense economic and later physical warfare
between the German peasantry and that of the princes and nobility. However, it was the oppression
and unjust laws created by such authorities later that actually initiated the riots and plundering done by
the peasants on the property of the nobles. This aggression, backed originally by Lutheran principles,
led to several mixed responses by both Germanic nobles and religious figures. By the end of the
German Peasants War, the economic conditions of such peasants did moderately change, however, it
was the lay rulers and other religious figures that benefited, authoritatively, from the rebellion.
Furthermore, the main cause of the German peasants revolts was that of the oppression by lords and
princes in conjunction with coerced serfdom that was occurring during this time. As seen in Document
Two, Sebastian Lotzer, a lay preacher, acknowledges the true start of the revolts as the oppression felt
by peasants to complete their dues without proper compensation. This representation of unjust
treatment is communicated by the spokesmen of all peasants, the Peasant Parliament, which states that
the peasants would not reject authority if such is fair and reasonable . This call for an end to serfdom
is realized in Document Eight when Lorenz Fries, an advisor to a noble, has an epiphany that the
oppression done by the nobles will lead to a troublesome outcome . This author is

Essay on Pentadic Analysis of the Statue of Liberty
Pentadic Analysis of the Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty is one of the most well know symbols
of the United States, across the world. For this reason I chose to analyze the dramatic effect it creates,
and what methods it implores to invent this universal meaning. It is one of the strongest visual
representations of the ideals which our country is founded upon. I intend to defend the argument that
the Statue of Liberty posses the power of persuading human thought using the terms encompassed in
Kenneth Burke s Pentad, shaping the definition of America for people through out the world. The
Statue of Liberty was originally a gift to the United States from France, back in the late 1800 s. The

It was called the Lee Iacocca Project, who was at the time the Chief Executive Officer of Chrysler
Motor Corporation. When remodeling the Lady of Liberty , bronze was used to repair the deteriorating
copper metal which it was originally built from. The symbol of justice similarly is represented as a
woman, eluding to the protective nature they both provide in watching over the citizen s of the United
States. Burke s Pentad includes five categories, which help classifying arguments as dramatic actions.
The first part is the act ; What is done by the unit? The second part of his evaluation is the scene ;
What is the history behind the act ? The third category of Burke s Pentad is the agent ; Who is the
source of the message? How the agent accomplishes its act is defined as the agency in the fourth term
of the Pentad. The final piece to Burke s analysis is to the define the purpose of the action. After
applying the Pentad to the dramatic action performed by the Statue of Liberty, I identified the
following five aspects as the elements of the Burkian Pentad:
Act: The act performed by the statue is the representation of the American Dream
Scene: The scene of the action is the historical struggle our the United States endued to achieve
political freedom
Agent: The agent of the act is the government of the United States

Modern Russian Music Bands
In the collapsed Russian Empire, modern generations grasp onto national strength and pride in their
remembrance of their pasts. In art, the Russian people immortalize their history through songs about
their true inner power and endurance. Bands like Alisa, DDT, Gazmanov, and Arkona comment on the
state of modern Russia in comparison to it s past, and while some bands idealize the inner Slavs of the
Russian people, others glorify their endurance, and others still are accepting of the new lack of
strength in the modern Russian. As Russia reevaluates it s past, each voice acts as a foothold on which
Russia regains it s balance. For bands like Alisa and Arkona, the Russian pride and identity lies in
battles and folktales. Their performances speak to the earliest Russian character; the tough, brutish, fur
covered, god worshiping Slav. Their lyrics often claim a genetic, or spiritually intrinsic drive in the
Russian people, singing phrases like But there is a sky of the Slavs boiling in our veins , But Russian
speech clanks by chain armor (Alisa), You have been a victim of crazy waters in a death battle with
wind. You put your hands in the sky and wait for Rod s (the Slavic deity of Fate) answer Hey, hey,
cheer up! Hoy, hoy, go in fight again! If you are brave you are stronger. (Arkona). These Slavic
remembrances claim a basic native strength in the people of Russia, and argue against the acceptance
of national failure. They call the people to fight together against the

Analysis and findings
This section will look on the importance of finance and accounting for businesses that were looked at
in the Literature Review. Also it will argue the ethics of accounting and finance in business due to
current accounting scandals.
Businesses need accounting information in order to make knowledgeable decisions. Creditors and
other lenders want to make sure that they will be paid back for the credit that they have given to a
business as suggested by Wood and Sangster(2012, p.9). These decisions done by financial
professionals have to administer and determine credit policy, make capital budgeting decisions and
advise on debts and preferred stock to enhance profitability as portrayed by Harold Bierman (2010, p.
3). Therefore, financial reports are important for making financial decisions for business.
In addition accounting and finance are important during this time of uncertainty such as slow growth
in the economy, debt and crisis. Thus financial information will seek to stabilise current growth and
future state of the business. As suggested by the President of European Commission, Jose Manuel
Barroso, on the current euro zone debt crisis that, banks should set aside more assets to help safeguard
against future losses. Thus accounting and finance have to play a significant role in the rising of new
capital to improve confidence that they could cope

CD-47 Scholarship Essay
While this therapy could help many countries in reducing their cancer rates, it is highly expensive. As
a result, we are working towards increasing the affordability of the anti CD 47 therapy. Unfortunately,
developing a solution can take many years, leaving those affected with no option but to wait until this
therapy can be marketed. With an overwhelming sense of disappointment, I leaned back in my seat as
I learned about the anti CD 47 therapy.
CD 47 is a molecule found on the surface of human cells, and functions as a signal for macrophages to
not eat the cells. Unfortunately, these molecules also permeate cancer cells, rendering the cancer cells
incapable of being destroyed by the immune system. Through experiments, researchers developed a
treatment using antibodies that could destruct the CD 47 molecules on cancer cells. A therapy that
could stop tumors before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of electricity for a great part of the day and the multitude of unattended patients enlightened
me to the difficulty these clinics faced in providing effective health care. While exploring one clinic
with a nurse, we discovered a surgical room illuminated by a flickering light. Relatively empty due to
the lack of advanced technology usually found in the United States, this experience opened my eyes to
the inability of these clinics to afford new technology. Furthermore, advanced instruments for basic
measurements such as blood pressure and temperature exist in developed countries; however,
stethoscopes and antique thermometers still dominate in developing countries. The unwillingness of
developers to market new innovations in these countries led me to set a goal of developing affordable
medical technology for developing clinics in order to aid them in caring for large numbers of patients

Debenhams Tall Structure
This is a tall hierarchy organisation chart of Debenhams, it shows the various levels of employees.
From the chart we can see the span of control is narrow and the chain of command goes downwards
(vertical) this means starting from the top management, down to middle level managers and ending up
at lower staff; it shows who is responsible for who/who reports to who.. A tall structure means lines of
communication are longer, so may mean slower response to changes. However it helps as roles and
responsibilities are clearly defined so everyone knows their role, it also allows close relationships
between workers and employees, close supervision and possible for more upward growth for
employees.

Power in role culture is decided by their place in the organisation chart.
Role Culture is from the Charles Handy Models of Organisational Culture. Organisations with a role
culture are based on rules. They are highly controlled, with everyone knowing their roles and
responsibilities. Power in a role culture is determined by a person s position (role) in the
organisational structure. (tutor2u, 2017)
Debenhams has a Role Culture because we have several different departments and each department
has a manager that is in charge of that respective department. For example: in the HR department we
ve got a manager that controls our department and team in HR.
This has a positive impact for goals and achievements to be reached as all employees are aware of
their roles and responsibilities.
Role Culture also has a positive impact on staff as it provides stability, security and continuity, which
then lowers stress levels. If staff feel secure happy, they may be more loyal to the company with a
higher morale leading to more productivity and low staff

Winter Chill Research Paper
Temperature conditions are critical in determining sufficient winter chill exposure. However, the
process is physiological and likely to be driven by other, yet undetermined, processes (Dennis, 1994).
Hormonal controls have been suggested as the mechanism, with early research proposing the process
is controlled by a balance of growth promoters and inhibitors (Amen, 1968). More recent research 4
suggests that temperature cues specific hormones, such as indoleacetic acid, gibberellins, abscisic
acid, and ethylene, which then control dormancy breaking (Seeley, 1990; Horvath, 2009). To date, the
causal biological drivers of dormancy remain elusive to researchers (Dennis, 1994). Resultantly, the
physiological response is commonly estimated by temperature based models (e.g. Weinberger, 1950;
Richardson et al., 1974; Shaltout and Unrath, 1983; Fishman et al., 1987; Linvill, 1990; Cesaraccio et
al., 2004). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different species require different threshold amounts of chill to break dormancy. Frequently, these
chill requirements are defined according to different chill models resulting in chill thresholds reported
in different units (e.g. Table 2). For instance, Ghariani and Stebbins (1994) reported chill thresholds
for 43 apple and 38 pear varieties using the Utah model (measured in chill units); Zhang and Taylor
(2011) determined chill requirement for Sirora pistachio using the Dynamic model (measured in chill
portions) and; Baldocchi and Wong (2008) used thresholds defined in chill hours for 18 fruit and nut
varieties to investigate future chill conditions in California. Cherry specific thresholds are contained in

Analysis Of The Four Arguments To Eliminate Television By...
In the average American household what is one piece of furniture that is in several rooms, huge, and in
the center of the room? The television of course! In Jerry Mander s The Four Arguments to Eliminate
Television, where 30 years ago, he expressed that television will impact every aspect of today s world.
The author hits the target spot on about society now through his insightful predictions on the
incorporation of business into television as well as the harmful effects of television on the human
body.
First, Mander discusses how television will become not as much as a source of entertainment but
rather into a form of business. He was correct by saying this because anytime someone is watching a
show on TV what comes on during the break? Those pestering commercials trying to persuade the
watcher into buying a product that is completely unnecessary and irrelevant. In addition, the TV could
just be on with the sports channel and all of a sudden, the government can take over the air time and
make a public announcement whenever they please. The intention of the television was to be
something people can use to relax and enjoy from the comfort of home. Now the purpose of it is to
advertise dumb things and the government taking control of the TV whenever it suits them. Mander
predicted the future so accurately it is scary because back then no one thought it was going to happen
but it almost seems he set the mold for the future society and overtime it just slowly has been coming
into place.
Next, the author mentions about the negative effects television has on a person s health. Back then,
everyone would meet at the park and play there until it was so pitch black that they were not able to
see their hands in front of them. While, today the idea kids have of hanging out is watching a movie or
catching up on their favorite shows together. Our country used to be known for the white picket fences
and kids all playing outside and the community all together. Now, our country is all isolated from each
other, the number one country in the world for obesity, and everyone glued to their coach and their
eyes onto the TV. Everything that the youth learns now is more or less from the television and not
from their own

Jean Piaget s Influence On The Way We Understand Children
Mildred Parten and Jean Piaget are two theorists that have had great influences on the way we
understand children. Piaget constructed the idea that a person s thinking passes through four stages
and as the person grows, their way of thinking changes thus entering a different stage. He emphasized
mostly the preoperational stage, which is for ages two to seven years old. In this stage children are
seen as illogical thinkers but they do engage in make believe games by using objects for purposes
other than their actual intended use. Between the ages of four and seven, they still do not think
logically but they become interested in games that have rules, structure, and social interaction. Unlike
Jean Piaget, Mildred Parten did not see types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the process of picking a subject, one boy stood out to me the most as all the children sat down and

observation I found out I was observing a four year old boy named Brandon. The entire building was

Overall, the room and the outside area where my observations took place were nicely organized and
family friendly. The classroom was divided into two sections with different floor types; a wooden
floor and a carpet floor. The wooden floor side of the room had multiple designated areas. The biggest
area was an eating area which is where the children could have lunch on chairs and tables adjusted to
their size. Another area was where the children could wash their hands, this part of the room consist of
paper towels, soaps, mirrors, and a sink. To the left of the sink there was a first aid kit with a fire

Causes And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate Change
Climate change is an ever growing danger to us and the planet and the effects of it will be
catastrophic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice caps
putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and tornados
and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real marketable solution
to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had before the industrial
revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at least weakened by the
year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles and there may be no snow in
the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has drastic effects. I am afraid that
arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal, narwhal and many more will become
extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to experience them like we were able to. Scientists
also say that the sea levels will most likely rise 4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound
too bad, but trust me it is because may coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea
level will because uninhabitable for us and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of
thousands of people and a lot of precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed.
I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in negative
ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which puts millions
upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to repair the damages
caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also become a lot more common
do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be deadly. I believe one of the worst
effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it will create more droughts due to the
high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts will have severe effects on the people
living in that area because typically when a drought is taking place, growing food is next to impossible

Summary Of The Color Yellow By F. Scott Fitzgerald
1. Yellow the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, two girls in twin yellow dresses who stopped
at the foot of the steps, Gatsby s yellow car. In the novel, the color yellow is associated with wealth
which Fitzgerald develops in order to associate the color with Gatsby by having it be the color of his
car and be very present at his parties. Affairs/Cheating Tom and Myrtle, and Gatsby and Daisy. In the
novel, affairs are very prevalent and are associated with characters of wealth who do not find love in
what they own and cheat in order to try and satisfy themselves. White white Georgian Colonial

the novel, the color white embodies purity and is associated with Daisy via the car she drives and the
clothes she wears which is ironic due to the fact that she loves not her husband Tom, but Gatsby.
2. One example of irony is when Tom states, Nowadays people begin by sneering at family life and
family institutions, and next they ll throw everything overboard and have intermarriage between black
and white. His statement is ironic because he is accusing people of not following traditional American
values while he himself is having an affair with Myrtle. Another example of irony is when Myrtle was

A Data Driven Decision Making Platform Essay
In this dissertation, a data driven decision making platform is developed focusing on individuals at
high risk of getting breast and ovarian cancers due to their BRCA gene mutations. First a likelihood
estimation model is built based on a gradient boosting model. This model is capable of identifying
individuals at high risk of having BRCA mutations based on their family and personal history of
cancers. Then, a Markov decision process (MDP) model is formulated to help BRCA mutation carriers
and their health providers to find effective intervention actions (based on cost or quality adjusted life
years) to prevent breast and ovarian cancers. Finally, a robust MDP (RMDP) model is presented to
study the sensitivity of MDP optimal strategies under uncertainty. In what follows, I present a
summary of findings in Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of this dissertation.
In Chapter 2, four machine learning classifiers are used to find the likelihood of having BRCA
mutation based on detailed personal and family history of cancer information. The data used for
validation of the models emerges from a recent nation wide survey study (ABOUT) of those who
requested BRCA genetic testing through one of the commercial health insurance companies in the
United States. This is the first study evaluating existing well known BRCA risk estimation models
using data on general population in the United States. The models considered were gradient boosting

Crack is the most addictive form of cocaine and it spread rapidly throughout the 80 s in New York

The Usefulness Of Study Of Bank Cost And Efficiency
Comment on the usefulness of study of bank cost and efficiency in evaluating bank performance.
Introduction
From the very beginning of the bank history, we already know that the main operation of bank is to
take loan and to make deposit. Since the first bank established in 12th century, bank is no more a
simple institution where we exchange money but an agency considered to be speculative and hopeful.
There is no doubt that the prosperity in modern society benefits a lot from the development of
commercial activities, where bank plays a main role in. People make money through work or

The main part of supervision including capital adequacy ratio, loan loss reserves, loan centration and
bank liquidity. Those indicators are lines play role like fire alarm for the commercial banks to watch
out the dangerous at any moment.
Except being alert to those highly explored risks, what commercial banks concern about is the profit.
Today, in order to make business more efficient, it is a wise choice for both banks and other kinds of
companies to do financing and list practice. With this important step, banks acquire more powerful
support to develop branches into a wider scale market: running global business, like HSBC. From the
other hand, this can be a unprecedent challenge to the local banks. The main reason why big
companies are successful is they do know how to function the business skillful. Works are separated
into small pieces and more professional staff are hired to solve special problems. This can be an
advantage that local banks lack. Competition makes it clear that local banks have to find their own
advantage to survive in the crucial game.
Other competition from financial institution
Even some big companies start to provide relative banking services. Countless financial derivatives
also consist as a main part in banking.
Although in the textbook the main assumption is without mortgage, which means that it does not

situation than Mobil. The Exxon scurrent and quick ratios (0.57 and 0.91 correspondingly) were
higher than the Mobil s (0.48 and 0.67 correspondingly) and merged company had significantly
improved these results. Ratio of net current assets as a % of total assets (i.e. working capital to total

Solvency status of companies also looked good. Though Exxon again showed its financial supremacy
with much higher interest coverage ratio (93.41 compared to Mobil s 7.78) Generally speaking the
better interest coverage ratio means less risk but also might be bad for future performance because of

Importance Of Storage Systems And The Cost Model

HotStorage 2014. Zhichao Li, Amanpreet Mukker, and Erez Zadok Stony Brook University
Summary
Author talks about the complexity of the storage system. Storage system is categorized by
performance, energy efficiency, durability and many more. There is a need to evaluate the storage
system with the cost perspective. Cost model was built and the system was evaluated through various
workloads and parameters. Digital data has been growing rapidly and in order to satisfy the needs of
more storage and one need to save the longer data storage cost. This study to evaluate the storage
system was carried on by developing a device mapper which was the combination of HDD and SSD
for Linux kernel where SSD can either be used as a cache or as a storage of hot data. Behavior of the
system was measured under various configuration. Moreover, a cost model was built which covered
different aspects like energy, power costs, replacement costs and much more. SSD proved out to be
very costly as a short term solution but less costly in the long run. SSD was used as a cache for some
workloads which was less costly than using it as a hot storage. There were few results obtained which
showed that for few workloads, SSD is the only possible solutions which seems to be costly when
seen for the short term but it proves out to be cheap when considered in the long run. It s very
important that the future storage is evaluated on the basis of

Captcha as Graphical Passwords A New Security
Primitive Based on Hard AI Problems
Abstract User authentication has become one of the important topics in information security. Many
graphical password schemes have been proposed, which are used to improve password usability and
security. In this paper, we present a new approach to solve the hard AI problems, namely, graphical
passwords are combined with Captcha technique, which will be referred them as Captcha as graphical
password otherwise we call it as CaRP. CaRP solves security problems such as online dictionary
attacks, relay attacks and shoulder surfing attacks combined with dual view technologies. Captcha as
graphical passwords also offers an efficient approach to address the well known image hotspot
problem in popular graphical password systems, such as Pass Points. CaRP also offers primitive
scheme to provide reasonable and usability security to improve online security.

Medieval And Medieval Architecture
When regarding ancient and medieval architecture, the powerful influence of religion is very
imminent throughout the various time periods and different styles of architecture. History of
architecture is associated more with buildings driven by religion than with any other category, because
in most past civilizations, the consistent and distinguished appeal of religion made the church or
temple the most symbolic, the most stable, and the most powerful building in any city. Throughout
human history, religion has been the inspiration for magnificent works of philosophy, literature, art,
and architecture. Throughout history in ancient Europe, sacred traditions were symbolized, expressed
and preserved in places of worship and pilgrimage. Though there are many examples that support this
argument, the mortuary complex of King Zoser in ancient Egypt, the Parthenon of ancient Greece, the
Pantheon of Italy, the Hagia Sophia of the Byzantine Empire, and the Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris
reign supreme in exemplifying the architectural practice driven by the influence of religion.
In Ancient Egypt, pyramids were monumental tombs built for the kings, but more importantly, the
great pyramids were also fundamental to the religious beliefs of Egyptian culture and society. In the
ancient Egyptian culture, death of the king was not a termination of life but rather, on the contrary, the
potential of beginning of a new form of existence. The kings held an exclusive position, described

Homer quickly displayed his understanding for the operational environment. For instance, he

develop a water pump for the Sarkhanese people. He persevered through design challenges and was
able to identified critical components found within Sarkhan. This allowed him to invent and develop a
self sufficient pump that the Sarkhanese could build and run themselves. In a like manor, I compare
Homers intentions to a Confucius quote, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to
fish and feed him for a life time. Homer was dedicated to providing the solution but understood it to
be a temporary fix if he did all the work. He knew that teaching the Sarkhanese how to construct the
pump on their own, would empower them to self sustain. He also understood that the Asian culture
wasn t the type to accept handouts. Homer displays this awareness by operating through and with
village headmen civil society leader and their chosen mechanic Jeepo, to introduce and construct the
water pump. Those simple courtesies provide solid evidence that Homer was aware of his operational
environment, which assisted him in working with and through others. Furthermore, Homer displayed
this while fostering his relationship between the village elders and Jeepo by maintaining confidents in
Jeepo s ability to solve the water pump efficiency issue. As a result, Homers actions rehabilitated the
American image and assisted in the water pumps acceptance. In the end, Homer empowered Jeepo and

Tender Is Night Character Analysis
The Tragic Downfall of Promising Psychiatrist Dick Diver
The work of F. Scott Fitzgerald The Tender is Night shows us how a character having strong qualities
such as education and career may collapse in search of entering into a new world which results in
hamartia or a fatal flaw. It is the protagonist young American Doctor Dick Diver s tragic downfall
which attracts many critics attention on the work who is an educated promising psychiatrist and
traveling man that shuttles between Vienna and Zurich in the pursuit of to be a good psychologist
maybe to be the greatest one that ever lived (Fitzgerald 147). It can be considered as an irony that as a
talented psychiatrist Dick Diver who has a published book A Psychology for Psychiatrists and has
ambitious desire in finding out ways for the mental illnesses Diver s himself ironically gets caught to a
kind of mental illness that causes his frustration. In this perspective, in the novel the protagonist Diver
s trauma is considered in a way as a good example for many psychiatrists who are in search of causes
and solutions for mental illnesses together with Nicole character in the novel. According to Bruccoli,
the novel is a new plot set in Europe about an American psychiatrist who is ruined by his marriage to a
wealthy mental patient (Bruccoli 330) while some critics consider the novel as breakdowns:
breakdowns in marriage, friendships, and individuals (Lucas 89). It has been argued that the title of
Fitzgerald s novel Tender Is the Night has taken it from the work of John Keats s Ode to A
Nightingale. According to William E. Doherty the novel Tender Is the Night also gets its essence from
Keat s work.
The title of the novel and the epigraph Fitzgerald offers illuminate the significance of night and
darkness in the story. An enquiry reveals a complicated and careful symbolic structure in Tender Is the
Night involving a contrast between the night and the day, darkness and light (6)
Although the novel is the last completed work of Fitzgerald one of the difficulties that the novel
presents is its ambiguity in understanding the chronological order of the work. While in the
masterpiece of Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby the protagonist Gatsby s downfall

Essay about Capitalism in Marx and Weber
The Concept Of Capitalism In Marx And Weber; What Is The Contemporary Relevance Of Their

At the later nineteenth century many social and economical ideas were developed because of the past

ideas, leads bourgeoisie to dream of a capitalist society in order to advance their maintain lifestyle and
gain wealth. This economic system which is dominated by private business and the principles of

The ruling class increased at the expense of the subject class and a conflict of interest developed
between them. This can be demonstrated by Marx s view of the nature of ownership and production in
capitalist societies. According to Marx, in a capitalist economy, goods are the labour power; raw
materials and machinery used to produce them are given an economic value. The employer buys
labour power, Marx says: more accurately, I think, he buys the right to use the worker s powers for a
day . Also, he argued that capital was owned by the capitalist class which produced nothing and
gained its wealth from the exploitation of the mass of the population the labour.
Those who produced lost the control of the product of their labour and the process of production
(Marx). Marx developed the theory of alienation since he believed that workers through capitalism
were alienated. According to this, things that naturally belong together are separated and because of
some forces are not in harmony. In his writings he mostly referred to the alienation of people from
aspects of their human nature . His theory is based upon his observation that under capitalism in rising
industrial production, workers unavoidably lose control of their lives and selves because they can t
control their work. Consequently, workers never become autonomous. Alienation exists in capitalism
societies because in work each provides common wealth, but can only express this

Peripheral Artery Disease Is A Prevalent Condition That...
Peripheral artery disease is a prevalent condition that greatly increases risk of death from myocardial
infarction or stroke. In the clinic, PAD will most often present itself as intermittent claudication. It is
important to understand this disease s symptoms, progression, risk factors, and pharmacological
treatment options to provide patients with individualized, high quality physical therapy.
Pathophysiology:
Peripheral artery disease is caused by the narrowing and hardening of blood vessels that supply
oxygen and nutrients to the periphery of the body. Arterial occlusion from atherosclerosis could be
found in many locations throughout the body; however, the lower extremities are affected more often
than the upper extremities.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tobacco use is an important contributor to PAD, as smoking promotes atherosclerotic changes in the
endothelium of blood vessels. Almost 90% of patients diagnosed with PAD are current or former
smokers; smokers risk of PAD is positively correlated with the number of cigarettes they smoked each
day, and the number of years they smoked for.1
Diabetes also increases the risk of PAD by causing dysfunction of the smooth muscle and endothelium
of the arteries. The risk of developing PAD is positively correlated with the duration and severity of
the patient s diabetes. Dyslipidemia accelerates the progression of PAD, and hypertension can increase
the incidence of intermittent claudication.1
Clinical Manifestations:
The symptoms of Peripheral Artery Disease are classified into four different stages.
In stage one, the patient is asymptomatic; approximately 50% of individuals with PAD are
asymptomatic.4 They will not have pain with exercises, however, their distal lower

7 Years War Salutary Neglect Essay

British interfered very little in colonial affairs, and this lasted from the end of the 1600s up until the
British victory over the French in the 7 Years War. The end of salutary neglect marked the beginning
of Britain s increasing control over the American colonies and attempt in raising taxes to help pay for

Many things stayed the same, which is why the American Revolution was as big of a turning point in
American history, as most people make it to be. The most important aspects of American life that

General Strain Theory
In 2016 alone, there were over 200,000 arrests made involving white collar crimes (UCR, 2016).
Although white collar crime makes up less than 1% of all arrests made, it can cost its victims upwards
of trillions of dollars in fiscal damages each year (ACFE, 2014). Despite its detrimental cost to its

After the September, 11th terrorists attack, the United States government 9/11 commission
recommended that biometric entry exit screening system was ideal for travelers who were leaving and

Entry Reform Act of May 2002 were geared towards enhancing homeland security (Haddal, 2010).
The Homeland Security Act of 2002 merged border and interior enforcement functions of Department
of Agriculture, the INS, and the U.S. Customs service to form Directorate of Border and
Transportation Security within the Department of Homeland Security (Haddal, 2010). Free sharing of
information and resources was made possible between USBP and CBP. The land, rail, and
transportation network became secure save for Transport Security Administration.
Alternative strategies that can be used to enhance border security can be effective collection, use, and
sharing of intelligence by exploiting networked intelligence. This should be done by sharing both
biographic and biometric information

Gorge Security Shred
There is a new kind of shredding for the Gorge! With our abundance of wind, water and snow sports,
shredding has meant radical sports moves... but with the start up of Gorge Security Shred s document
destruction business, the only shredding business located in the Gorge, shredding the Gorge has
another connotation.
Gorge Security Shred, a division of Opportunity Connections, is now in full operation. The idea for
starting a document destruction company came from Rita Rathkey, Executive Director of Opportunity
Connections, a non profit organization that serves people with developmental and physical disabilities.
Rathkey had talked with administrators of many similar agencies around the state about ways to
provide paid employment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process starts from the instant a company deposits their confidential papers into a locked bin.
Based on the company s pick up service schedule, a uniformed service representative will transport
the sensitive information to a secure van parked outside. A completed and signed Materials Receipt
form is supplied prior to the departure from the business facility. They transport the materials to the
shredding company s warehouse near Pine Grove, South of Hood River, where the documents are
moved into a fenced, locked area inside the secure warehouse. All paper is weighed and the number of
pounds, shredded, baled and recycled, is reported and credited to each county s DEQ, Department of
Environmental Quality, for earned recycling points.
The destruction of the material takes place within three business days of pick up. All shredded
material is compacted into 1,000 pound bales and 100% recycled through a Washington pulp mill and
made into other paper products. Gorge Security Shred encourages businesses to shred only what is
confidential. Recycled whole sheets of paper retain their longer fibers and can be reprocessed into
higher quality paper products. A Certificate of Destruction is issued, confirming the destruction of the
material and is mailed back to the client along with an invoice.
For the month of April, Gorge Security Shred will have processed over 8.5 tons of documents. Now
that is shredding the Gorge ! For more

Full Blown Hypochondriasis
One recent study suggests that full blown hypochondriasis is fairly rare, although lesser degrees of
worry about illness are more common, affecting as many as 6% of people in a community sample.
Hypochondria is an irregular anxiety about one s well being, particularly with an unjustified terror that
one has a severe sickness. A lot of people worry about medical symptoms, but not everyone has
hypochondria. Having an unidentified illness can cause anxiety. In this case, one should get a second
opinion. This does not mean that said person is a hypochondriac. However, if you search your
symptoms yourself, there is a high possibility that you can find something that matches. Minor
illnesses, like the common cold, can match much more serious disorders. ... Show more content on

She has been diagnosed with intellectual disability and a drug addiction along with hypochondriasis.
On average, she is in the hospital once or twice a week, frequently changing her doctor or even
hospital. This woman knows of her disorder, but has actually claimed to be cured and told her family
that they no longer need to worry about her with this disorder. After her family came back the
Caribbean, she claimed to either have yellow fever or malaria, depending on who she was talking to.
When asked about her illness on December 13th, 2014, she again refused to admit that she had the
disorder, that she had been cured of it. In an ironic twist, she had to hang up to go to the doctor for a
test due to a mini stroke she had a few weeks prior. When she was in the hospital for this, she had to
get a nurse to give family members a diagnosis due to the lack of belief they held for her medical

A Separate Peace Rhetorical Analysis
Paul uses many tactics throughout his imprisonment in order to keep some control over his and Annie
s alliance. One effective method he uses is flattery, complimenting Annie in order to keep her happy
and her mood stable. His use of this move is demonstrated on page 60 in the novel, when he calls
Annie his favorite nurse. He uses it again on page 107, telling Annie that she could not be old enough
to remember the chapter plays, hinting at how she looks way younger than she actually is. Paul uses
this strategy to lighten Annie s mood and keep her happy, which is vital to him because Annie can
become very destructive and impatient when angry, consequently being the main source of Paul s pain
throughout the book. In addition to flattery, Paul

Task 2 Failures to Protect Individuals Essay
TASK 2
Identify two reports on serious failures to protect individuals (ADULTS) from abuse. Write an account
that describes the unsafe practices in the reviews. Look on Google under UK failures in adult care
Report 1.
In March 2002, a 30 year old woman with learning disabilities was admitted to Borders General
Hospital in Scotland with multiple injuries as a result of sustained physical and sexual assaults. The
abuse had been carried out at home and was perpetrated by three men, one of whom was her carer.
The case of the vulnerable adult is the term that the individual involved has asked to be used. Her
identity is protected under rules giving anonymity to victims of rape.
The woman had made allegations against one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If all seemed well they could have arranged visits for support for the girl for example.
Knowing or finding out weather a person is able to fully understand when they have a disability is a
difficult thing to do. When the girl s mother passed away the perpetrator was allowed to become the
girls carer and the abuse continued. Before this man was allowed to become the girls carer
agencies/social services should have fully investigated the man s past, he should have gone through
interviews and the agencies could have observed/investigated the man s and girl s relation/friendship.
There would have been no harm for the agencies to go and check on the woman years later and keep
on top of visits because if they did this the signs of abuse would have been clear such as dehydration
and lack of food, poor clothing, torn genital area and marks on her face and body.
Report 2.
NHS staff persistently abused a blind and deaf man with a low IQ by tying him up for 16 hours a day,
government inspectors revealed today in a damning report on services for people with learning
disabilities.
Carers employed by the Cornwall Partnership NHS trust bound his arms together with cloth bandages
and fastened them to his bed or wheelchair, to stop him slapping himself in the face.
They found evidence in personnel files

A Risk Engineering Approach to Project Management
Project Management A project is a group activity temporary in nature projected to achieve a desired
result, service or product in a unique manner (Chapman, 2007). A project is termed as temporary since
it has a set start and finish time period and is undertaken with defined resources and within a set
scope. The operations within a project are unique since they do not rely on the routing operations.
Rather, a set of operations are designated to meet the desired target. From this understanding, it is
deduced that project management will entail the process of meeting the set goals for a particular
activity. According to (Chapman, 2007), project management is the strategic deployment of skills,
knowledge and techniques to accomplish specific set goals efficiently and effectively. Project
management deviates away from normal organization operations to achieve predefined targets. Project
management reorients and organizes available resources to meet set goals efficiently within a defined
scope the set time period (Chapman, 2007). Project management is divided into five interrelated but,
distinctive phases. These phases are: Project initiation; Project planning; Project execution; Project
Monitoring and controlling and, Project Termination. In project management, time, money and scope
are the three principal components considered to have a bearing on the success of the project. These
are interrelated and, a balance between them is needful in order to ensure efficient and

  • 2. American Football Enforcing Rules Are the NFL and NCAA enforcing rules that make American football TOO safe? Over the years these organizations have gradually changed the way football is being played. The changes have mostly been made to keep players safe and make the game less violent. With all these rule changes some people think it is taking the fun away from the game. American Football has become a sport that is classified as too soft compared to what it used to be. The way football is played has been thoroughly changed over the years. Football used to be a sport where the defense was much more involved in many different scenarios and stops. Nowadays you cannot tackle aiming for the chest, head, or just a defenseless player in general, leading with the helmet of your gear. This rule is called targeting, and it was implemented to the game in 2013. Many players and coaches believe that this rule has made tackling too beneficial for the offense, as well as giving them a very safe field to play on. Since football has been changed to become more of a game that the offense controls, there has been much more scoring. Scoring gets the offense on each team on and off the field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since all these new rules are being enforced a number of times a referee calls a penalty in each game has increased. Many people believe this makes the game less exciting because there aren t as many big hits on offensive players in each game, something that the crowd would stand up and cheer for. Generally, this slows down the defense giving them a much harder task in stopping the offense and is disliked by many players. Players and coaches agree that referees call a penalty on almost any hard hitting tackle, so the players are now being taught and coached differently than before. This alters their playing style, keeping the game much safer. Referees have been calling too many penalties which are resulting in games that are too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the advent of the Internet as a high speed communication device, this issue has become even more prominent in recent years. This paper will explore the issue of whether the Internet should be censored. Additionally, it will investigate possible methods for undertaking this censorship. Since 1787, the Constitution has been integral part of American society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to two key questions that the American society must confront in the upcoming years: Should the Internet be censored? If so, how can the Internet be censored? There are many types of information on the Internet that can easily be found that can be considered harmful or dangerous. Among these include: * Pornography: There are an overwhelming number of pornographic sites available on the Internet. In fact, a recent study has shown that approximately one out ever fifty websites contains sexually explicit material.[2] Many people consider this to be harmful in at least one of several ways. For one, it can be harmful to the viewers of the pornography. Also, it may cause mental or moral damage to the people actually in the pornography. Additionally, the protection of children from Internet pornography is an important issue. In recent times, many children have become more computer savvy than their parents. With the power of the Internet, many children have the ability to easily view pornography. One example of a well known pornography site is www.whitehouse.com. * * Hate Speech: Many hate groups, including Neo Nazis, the KKK, and others, have web pages on the Internet. These pages often promote hatred, racism, and violence, and it is obvious how such messages can be damaging to a society. • 5. Thurmond Rule Pros And Cons The Thurmond Rule is an informal and somewhat amorphous rule in the United States Senate regarding confirmations of judicial nominees. While it originated with former Senator Strom Thurmond s opposition to President Lyndon Johnson s nomination of Justice Abe Fortas to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in June 1968, the specifics of the rule vary between sources. Thurmond himself said that no lifetime judicial appointments should move in the last six months or so of a lame duck presidency.[1] In the last year of George W. [2] In June 2012, however, Leahy said it is troubling to hear Senate Republicans already talking about how they plan to resort to the Thurmond Rule to shut down all judicial confirmations for the rest of the year. [4] In 2004, Republican Senator Orrin Hatch dismissed the rule: Strom Thurmond unilaterally on his own ... when he was chairman could say whatever he wanted to, but that didn t bind the whole committee, and it doesn t bind me. • 6. Causes Of The German PeasantsRevolts The crop failure of the early sixteenth century created intense economic and later physical warfare between the German peasantry and that of the princes and nobility. However, it was the oppression and unjust laws created by such authorities later that actually initiated the riots and plundering done by the peasants on the property of the nobles. This aggression, backed originally by Lutheran principles, led to several mixed responses by both Germanic nobles and religious figures. By the end of the German Peasants War, the economic conditions of such peasants did moderately change, however, it was the lay rulers and other religious figures that benefited, authoritatively, from the rebellion. Furthermore, the main cause of the German peasants revolts was that of the oppression by lords and princes in conjunction with coerced serfdom that was occurring during this time. As seen in Document Two, Sebastian Lotzer, a lay preacher, acknowledges the true start of the revolts as the oppression felt by peasants to complete their dues without proper compensation. This representation of unjust treatment is communicated by the spokesmen of all peasants, the Peasant Parliament, which states that the peasants would not reject authority if such is fair and reasonable . This call for an end to serfdom is realized in Document Eight when Lorenz Fries, an advisor to a noble, has an epiphany that the oppression done by the nobles will lead to a troublesome outcome . For this reason I chose to analyze the dramatic effect it creates, and what methods it implores to invent this universal meaning. It is one of the strongest visual representations of the ideals which our country is founded upon. I intend to defend the argument that the Statue of Liberty posses the power of persuading human thought using the terms encompassed in Kenneth Burke s Pentad, shaping the definition of America for people through out the world. In art, the Russian people immortalize their history through songs about their true inner power and endurance. Bands like Alisa, DDT, Gazmanov, and Arkona comment on the state of modern Russia in comparison to it s past, and while some bands idealize the inner Slavs of the Russian people, others glorify their endurance, and others still are accepting of the new lack of strength in the modern Russian. As Russia reevaluates it s past, each voice acts as a foothold on which Russia regains it s balance. For bands like Alisa and Arkona, the Russian pride and identity lies in battles and folktales. Their performances speak to the earliest Russian character; the tough, brutish, fur covered, god worshiping Slav. Their lyrics often claim a genetic, or spiritually intrinsic drive in the Russian people, singing phrases like But there is a sky of the Slavs boiling in our veins , But Russian speech clanks by chain armor (Alisa), You have been a victim of crazy waters in a death battle with wind. You put your hands in the sky and wait for Rod s (the Slavic deity of Fate) answer Hey, hey, cheer up! Hoy, hoy, go in fight again! If you are brave you are stronger. (Arkona). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis and findings This section will look on the importance of finance and accounting for businesses that were looked at in the Literature Review. Also it will argue the ethics of accounting and finance in business due to current accounting scandals. Businesses need accounting information in order to make knowledgeable decisions. Creditors and other lenders want to make sure that they will be paid back for the credit that they have given to a business as suggested by Wood and Sangster(2012, p.9). These decisions done by financial professionals have to administer and determine credit policy, make capital budgeting decisions and advise on debts and preferred stock to enhance profitability as portrayed by Harold Bierman (2010, p. 3). Therefore, financial reports are important for making financial decisions for business. In addition accounting and finance are important during this time of uncertainty such as slow growth in the economy, debt and crisis. Thus financial information will seek to stabilise current growth and future state of the business. As suggested by the President of European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, on the current euro zone debt crisis that, banks should set aside more assets to help safeguard against future losses. As a result, we are working towards increasing the affordability of the anti CD 47 therapy. With an overwhelming sense of disappointment, I leaned back in my seat as I learned about the anti CD 47 therapy. CD 47 is a molecule found on the surface of human cells, and functions as a signal for macrophages to not eat the cells. A tall structure means lines of communication are longer, so may mean slower response to changes. • 12. Winter Chill Research Paper Temperature conditions are critical in determining sufficient winter chill exposure. However, the process is physiological and likely to be driven by other, yet undetermined, processes (Dennis, 1994). Hormonal controls have been suggested as the mechanism, with early research proposing the process is controlled by a balance of growth promoters and inhibitors (Amen, 1968). More recent research 4 suggests that temperature cues specific hormones, such as indoleacetic acid, gibberellins, abscisic acid, and ethylene, which then control dormancy breaking (Seeley, 1990; Horvath, 2009). To date, the causal biological drivers of dormancy remain elusive to researchers (Dennis, 1994). Resultantly, the physiological response is commonly estimated by temperature based models (e.g. Weinberger, 1950; Richardson et al., 1974; Shaltout and Unrath, 1983; Fishman et al., 1987; Linvill, 1990; Cesaraccio et al., 2004). ... • 13. Analysis Of The Four Arguments To Eliminate Television By... In the average American household what is one piece of furniture that is in several rooms, huge, and in the center of the room? The television of course! In Jerry Mander s The Four Arguments to Eliminate Television, where 30 years ago, he expressed that television will impact every aspect of today s world. The author hits the target spot on about society now through his insightful predictions on the incorporation of business into television as well as the harmful effects of television on the human body. First, Mander discusses how television will become not as much as a source of entertainment but rather into a form of business. He was correct by saying this because anytime someone is watching a show on TV what comes on during the break? Those pestering commercials trying to persuade the watcher into buying a product that is completely unnecessary and irrelevant. In addition, the TV could just be on with the sports channel and all of a sudden, the government can take over the air time and make a public announcement whenever they please. The intention of the television was to be something people can use to relax and enjoy from the comfort of home. Now the purpose of it is to advertise dumb things and the government taking control of the TV whenever it suits them. Mander predicted the future so accurately it is scary because back then no one thought it was going to happen but it almost seems he set the mold for the future society and overtime it just slowly has been coming into place. Next, the author mentions about the negative effects television has on a person s health. Back then, everyone would meet at the park and play there until it was so pitch black that they were not able to see their hands in front of them. While, today the idea kids have of hanging out is watching a movie or catching up on their favorite shows together. Our country used to be known for the white picket fences and kids all playing outside and the community all together. Now, our country is all isolated from each other, the number one country in the world for obesity, and everyone glued to their coach and their eyes onto the TV. Piaget constructed the idea that a person s thinking passes through four stages and as the person grows, their way of thinking changes thus entering a different stage. He emphasized mostly the preoperational stage, which is for ages two to seven years old. In this stage children are seen as illogical thinkers but they do engage in make believe games by using objects for purposes other than their actual intended use. • 15. Causes And Effects Of Climate Change Climate Change Climate change is an ever growing danger to us and the planet and the effects of it will be catastrophic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice caps putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and tornados and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real marketable solution to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had before the industrial revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at least weakened by the year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles and there may be no snow in the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has drastic effects. I am afraid that arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal, narwhal and many more will become extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to experience them like we were able to. Scientists also say that the sea levels will most likely rise 4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound too bad, but trust me it is because may coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea level will because uninhabitable for us and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of thousands of people and a lot of precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed. I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in negative ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which puts millions upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to repair the damages caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also become a lot more common do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be deadly. I believe one of the worst effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it will create more droughts due to the high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts will have severe effects on the people living in that area because typically when a drought is taking place, growing food is next to impossible which ... A Data Driven Decision Making Platform Essay In this dissertation, a data driven decision making platform is developed focusing on individuals at high risk of getting breast and ovarian cancers due to their BRCA gene mutations. First a likelihood estimation model is built based on a gradient boosting model. This model is capable of identifying individuals at high risk of having BRCA mutations based on their family and personal history of cancers. Then, a Markov decision process (MDP) model is formulated to help BRCA mutation carriers and their health providers to find effective intervention actions (based on cost or quality adjusted life years) to prevent breast and ovarian cancers. Finally, a robust MDP (RMDP) model is presented to study the sensitivity of MDP optimal strategies under uncertainty. In what follows, I present a summary of findings in Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of this dissertation. In Chapter 2, four machine learning classifiers are used to find the likelihood of having BRCA mutation based on detailed personal and family history of cancer information. The data used for validation of the models emerges from a recent nation wide survey study (ABOUT) of those who requested BRCA genetic testing through one of the commercial health insurance companies in the United States. This is the first study evaluating existing well known BRCA risk estimation models using data on general population in the United States. Cost model was built and the system was evaluated through various workloads and parameters. Digital data has been growing rapidly and in order to satisfy the needs of more storage and one need to save the longer data storage cost. This study to evaluate the storage system was carried on by developing a device mapper which was the combination of HDD and SSD for Linux kernel where SSD can either be used as a cache or as a storage of hot data. Behavior of the system was measured under various configuration. Moreover, a cost model was built which covered different aspects like energy, power costs, replacement costs and much more. SSD proved out to be very costly as a short term solution but less costly in the long run. SSD was used as a cache for some workloads which was less costly than using it as a hot storage. There were few results obtained which showed that for few workloads, SSD is the only possible solutions which seems to be costly when seen for the short term but it proves out to be cheap when considered in the long run. • 30. Medieval And Medieval Architecture When regarding ancient and medieval architecture, the powerful influence of religion is very imminent throughout the various time periods and different styles of architecture. History of architecture is associated more with buildings driven by religion than with any other category, because in most past civilizations, the consistent and distinguished appeal of religion made the church or temple the most symbolic, the most stable, and the most powerful building in any city. Throughout human history, religion has been the inspiration for magnificent works of philosophy, literature, art, and architecture. Throughout history in ancient Europe, sacred traditions were symbolized, expressed and preserved in places of worship and pilgrimage. Though there are many examples that support this argument, the mortuary complex of King Zoser in ancient Egypt, the Parthenon of ancient Greece, the Pantheon of Italy, the Hagia Sophia of the Byzantine Empire, and the Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris reign supreme in exemplifying the architectural practice driven by the influence of religion. In Ancient Egypt, pyramids were monumental tombs built for the kings, but more importantly, the great pyramids were also fundamental to the religious beliefs of Egyptian culture and society. In the ancient Egyptian culture, death of the king was not a termination of life but rather, on the contrary, the potential of beginning of a new form of existence. He persevered through design challenges and was able to identified critical components found within Sarkhan. This allowed him to invent and develop a self sufficient pump that the Sarkhanese could build and run themselves. In a like manor, I compare Homers intentions to a Confucius quote, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a life time. Homer was dedicated to providing the solution but understood it to be a temporary fix if he did all the work. He knew that teaching the Sarkhanese how to construct the pump on their own, would empower them to self sustain. He also understood that the Asian culture wasn t the type to accept handouts. This can be demonstrated by Marx s view of the nature of ownership and production in capitalist societies. The employer buys labour power, Marx says: more accurately, I think, he buys the right to use the worker s powers for a day . Also, he argued that capital was owned by the capitalist class which produced nothing and gained its wealth from the exploitation of the mass of the population the labour. Those who produced lost the control of the product of their labour and the process of production (Marx). Marx developed the theory of alienation since he believed that workers through capitalism were alienated. According to this, things that naturally belong together are separated and because of some forces are not in harmony. In his writings he mostly referred to the alienation of people from aspects of their human nature . His theory is based upon his observation that under capitalism in rising industrial production, workers unavoidably lose control of their lives and selves because they can t control their work. All paper is weighed and the number of pounds, shredded, baled and recycled, is reported and credited to each county s DEQ, Department of Environmental Quality, for earned recycling points. The destruction of the material takes place within three business days of pick up. All shredded material is compacted into 1,000 pound bales and 100% recycled through a Washington pulp mill and made into other paper products. Gorge Security Shred encourages businesses to shred only what is confidential. Recycled whole sheets of paper retain their longer fibers and can be reprocessed into higher quality paper products. A Certificate of Destruction is issued, confirming the destruction of the material and is mailed back to the client along with an invoice. • 42. Full Blown Hypochondriasis One recent study suggests that full blown hypochondriasis is fairly rare, although lesser degrees of worry about illness are more common, affecting as many as 6% of people in a community sample. Hypochondria is an irregular anxiety about one s well being, particularly with an unjustified terror that one has a severe sickness. A lot of people worry about medical symptoms, but not everyone has hypochondria. Having an unidentified illness can cause anxiety. In this case, one should get a second opinion. This does not mean that said person is a hypochondriac. However, if you search your symptoms yourself, there is a high possibility that you can find something that matches. Minor illnesses, like the common cold, can match much more serious disorders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On average, she is in the hospital once or twice a week, frequently changing her doctor or even hospital. This woman knows of her disorder, but has actually claimed to be cured and told her family that they no longer need to worry about her with this disorder. After her family came back the Caribbean, she claimed to either have yellow fever or malaria, depending on who she was talking to. In an ironic twist, she had to hang up to go to the doctor for a test due to a mini stroke she had a few weeks prior. • 43. A Separate Peace Rhetorical Analysis Paul uses many tactics throughout his imprisonment in order to keep some control over his and Annie s alliance. One effective method he uses is flattery, complimenting Annie in order to keep her happy and her mood stable. His use of this move is demonstrated on page 60 in the novel, when he calls Annie his favorite nurse. He uses it again on page 107, telling Annie that she could not be old enough to remember the chapter plays, hinting at how she looks way younger than she actually is. Paul uses this strategy to lighten Annie s mood and keep her happy, which is vital to him because Annie can become very destructive and impatient when angry, consequently being the main source of Paul s pain throughout the book. Write an account that describes the unsafe practices in the reviews. Look on Google under UK failures in adult care Report 1. In March 2002, a 30 year old woman with learning disabilities was admitted to Borders General Hospital in Scotland with multiple injuries as a result of sustained physical and sexual assaults. The abuse had been carried out at home and was perpetrated by three men, one of whom was her carer. The case of the vulnerable adult is the term that the individual involved has asked to be used. If all seemed well they could have arranged visits for support for the girl for example. Knowing or finding out weather a person is able to fully understand when they have a disability is a difficult thing to do. When the girl s mother passed away the perpetrator was allowed to become the girls carer and the abuse continued. Before this man was allowed to become the girls carer agencies/social services should have fully investigated the man s past, he should have gone through interviews and the agencies could have observed/investigated the man s and girl s relation/friendship. There would have been no harm for the agencies to go and check on the woman years later and keep on top of visits because if they did this the signs of abuse would have been clear such as dehydration and lack of food, poor clothing, torn genital area and marks on her face and body. Report 2. NHS staff persistently abused a blind and deaf man with a low IQ by tying him up for 16 hours a day, government inspectors revealed today in a damning report on services for people with learning disabilities. Carers employed by the Cornwall Partnership NHS trust bound his arms together with cloth bandages and fastened them to his bed or wheelchair, to stop him slapping himself in the face. • 45. A Risk Engineering Approach to Project Management Project Management A project is a group activity temporary in nature projected to achieve a desired result, service or product in a unique manner (Chapman, 2007). A project is termed as temporary since it has a set start and finish time period and is undertaken with defined resources and within a set scope. The operations within a project are unique since they do not rely on the routing operations. Rather, a set of operations are designated to meet the desired target. From this understanding, it is deduced that project management will entail the process of meeting the set goals for a particular activity. According to (Chapman, 2007), project management is the strategic deployment of skills, knowledge and techniques to accomplish specific set goals efficiently and effectively. Project management deviates away from normal organization operations to achieve predefined targets. Project management reorients and organizes available resources to meet set goals efficiently within a defined scope the set time period (Chapman, 2007). Project management is divided into five interrelated but, distinctive phases. These phases are: Project initiation; Project planning; Project execution; Project Monitoring and controlling and, Project Termination. In project management, time, money and scope are the three principal components considered to have a bearing on the success of the project. These are interrelated and, a balance between them is needful in order to ensure efficient and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
