Analysis Of Beverly Daniel Tatum s Article Defining Racism
Beverly Daniel Tatum article Defining Racism she states that racism is still alive today theres no one
way to ever truly escape completely. When we claim to be free of prejudice, perhaps what we are
really saying is that we are not hate mongers. But no one is completely innocent. (Tatum6)We all say
or think we are completely free of being stereotypical but how can we not when its all around us in the
media or just the way we grew up and weren t able to change where we went to school or where we
lived. Each of us needs to look at our own behavior. Am I perpetuating and reinforcing the negative
messages..,or am I seeking to challenge them? (Tatum 6) Everyone can have there own definition of
racism depending on what you where taught or what

Hdac8 Inhibition Synthesis
The influence of substitutions at the heteroaromatic ring of the synthesized compounds CMP 1e 5e on
HDAC8 inhibition activity was examined. The results of the enzyme assays are shown in Table 3.11.
The results showed that CMP 1e and 5e inhibited HDAC8 much more significantly at 0.1 ÎźM
concentration when compared to the standard drug SAHA. The percentage of inhibition for all the
compounds tested was found to be in the range of 56.3 78.5%. Even though, greater steric tolerance
existed at the HDAC8 active site near the entrance of the capping group than the metal binding moiety
region, the pyridimine (CMP 1e, 2e 4e) and pyridine analogues (CMP 5e) displayed the greatest
inhibitory activity at IC50 0.1 ÂľM. The polarity of the nitrogen atom

Rebecca Clarke s `` Cinderella No More ``
I decided to choose a theme for my final paper which will be related to my instrument viola. I choose
Rebecca Clarke , probably the most prominent women composer who wrote for viola. Most of Clarke
s compositions were written in the first three decades of the twentieth century, her works was largely
unknown until the 1970th. Such is the curiously small impact she made as a composer in England in
her life time that the first edition of Lionel Turtis s book Cinderella no more doesn t mention her viola
Sonata, even though now violist from all over the world would regard it as one of the principal works
for the instrument of its era. This seems very interesting to me and I will discuss why it happened and
why women composers had no space in the professional society of that time. Also, I will talk about
Rebecca Clarke as one of the firs women who broke the rules in a male dominated musical world ( she
became one of the first female professional musician in the orchestra). Interest in her writing has
grown a lot recently and many of her works entered the standard viola repertoire. Because she wrote
during the time of first feminist wave in England and her rediscovering overlaps with the second wave
feminism in America musicologist mainly discuss her personality and her compositions in the
implications of gender on analysis. I will discuss her Viola Sonata considering this recent feminist
theory of gender and I will write about her personality as a composer and a performer,

The America s Got Spoon By Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum posted on her Instagram a surprising photo of herself as she dressed in a very, very short
jean skirt late on Sunday. The Project Runway host showed off her long slender legs and pert buttocks
as she posed next to a wooden spoon with the words The Naughty Spoon written on it.
The America s Got Talent judge gave the photo a simple caption of Ouch. She added no additional
details as to where or why the photo had been taken or who the man lifting up the other end of the
woman s denim jeans shorts might be.
Though the photo is definitely racy, it passed Instagram s censorship test. It still remains up on Klum s
account Tuesday.
This is far from the first time the German supermodel mom of four has shared risquĂŠ photos on her

Waltham Motors
Waltham Motors Division Sharon Michaels, the division controller, is concerned regarding the
performance at Waltham Motors Division for the month of May. The company lost a major customer
contact during this time, and she needs the performance report analyzed. Sharon Michaels must report
the information to the corporate headquarters of Marco Corporation. Waltham Motors is a subsidiary
of Marco Corporation and was acquired in late 2003. This analysis is for the month of May 2004.
Accounting Practices: As part of my analysis I started with a review of the company s account

In this case, it may be that they do not have any internal controls. Top level management needs to
ensure these controls are created and being met. I think safeguards in financial reporting should within
the company s internal mechanisms. Putting COSO s Theory into Practice explains how their
framework can be used for internal audits. This will guide companies in a direction which will benefit
everyone from top executives to all stakeholders. The COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations
of the Treadway Commission) framework consists of components such as monitoring, control
activities, information communication, risk assessment, and control environment. All of these
components put together create a system that will help mitigate risks. This framework also helps with
enhancing current controls to ensure the reliability of their financial statements. I believe that Waltham
s lack of internal controls has caused some of the instability in their financial reporting. For the month
of May, they had no monitoring of their lost contracts and also had no mention of how many units the
contract was for or if they already created the units. The report was communicated informally, and not
very concise or consistent. There was no control environment to ensure consistency within this
reporting. Breakeven Analysis: In April, the company lost a

Music, The Food Of Neuroscience
In the article, Music, the food of neuroscience? Robert Zattore, a cognitive neuroscientist, suggested
that we should consider music, art, and culture in a biological perspective (312). There is a well
known quote by Friedrich Nietzsche that speaks out to many people and states, Without music, life
would be a mistake . This article by Zattore makes a reader consider if music has a bigger meaning in
our lives than we think. The author argues that we can learn about neuroscience through music as
these musical products of human cognition may give us valuable scientific insights. Furthermore, the
author supported this claim by explaining how we know little about neuroscience of music research,
the relationship between speech and music, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Zattore s article, the research behind people with amusia has shown that music depends
on neural processes and therefore that music can indeed lend itself to scientific study (313). There is
no doubt that a decent section of this article was devoted to explaining how little we know and how
complicated it is to make discoveries in this topic of musical neuroscience.
In addition to justifying how determining which aspects of music apply to neuroscience, Zattore
suggests that music has a correlation with speech. Some researchers believe that music and speech
share several similarities. Speech processing takes place in the left half of the brain so scientists
wonder if this asymmetry is mirrored in the right hemisphere for music (313). On the other hand, the
author states that there have been cases where individuals have lost their speech functions due to
auditory damage but show high level musical function, like the example Zattore gives of the Russian
composer Vissarion Shebalin (313). Furthermore, the author explains how certain studies have shown
promising results when comparing how speech relates to music. Neuroimaging studies demonstrate
that some functions like syntax may require similar neural resources for both speech and music (313).
Zattore is careful to

Symbolism Between C.S. Lewis´ The Lion, The Witch and The...
The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in The
Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus death is
not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An
allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion,
The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism even though the
allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless, The Lion, The Witch and The
Wardrobe is an allegory. In this tale, four ordinary children find a wardrobe that leads them into
Narnia, an extraordinary land parallel to our universe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying to help the
Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the snow. Some critics also argue that
the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The fox represents people who do not seem to be religious
but when tested are proved to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their lives for the sake
of their beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S. Lewis seems to
have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the
Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through
Aslan.
The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further prove that Narnia is an
allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us betraying God, yet Aslan as does God, rescues
Edmund and is prepared to give his life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give Edmund life
makes a treaty with the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and naturally, the White Witch
is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ was who died on the cross in
payment for our sins and Aslan died for Edmund. On the way to Calvary, Jesus remained silent, as did
Aslan. It is said that Aslan could have killed them all with one swipe of his paws and it was said that
Jesus could have killed

The Landscape Of Escort Advertising
The landscape of escort ads in Vegas is unlike any other in the country due to the staggering number
of annual tourists we welcome every year. First time visitors are normally surprised at the level of
attention grabbing advertisements populating Las Vegas Boulevard. From moving billboards, to the
infamous handbills, or escort cards, being peddled on the Strip, escorts ads are everywhere, and there
is no denying they are as tempting as they are plentiful. Is this the first time you have visited, and you
find yourself wondering just how common hiring an escort, or private stripper, is? The plethora of
escort ads are indicative of how common it is for gentlemen and couples to hire Vegas escorts to

Though there are many stunning women in this thriving metropolis, there are essentially two main
ways to meet escorts in Vegas. The first of them is through an agency, such as Bunnies of Las Vegas
Escorts. With an agency, you meet performers who have been vetted by the company to ensure they
are licensed, which means they are of the legal working age of 18 and above. The peace of mind that
comes with this is unmatched, but keep in mind that not all agencies are created equal.
There are many escort services in Vegas, but few of them go to the lengths we do to provide the upper
echelon of female companionship. When you insist on a playmate who is the total package, you must
align with an entity that only refers captivating dames who offer charming wit along with smoldering

Essay On The Protest Movement
The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest
movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The
consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil
disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDS from both
the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement about this
civil disobedience from people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest movement itself was
divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other. Each had
disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the movement.
In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil disobedience, had
a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment of individuals living
with AIDS.
In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new,
deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay disease,
but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with
indifference. This led those affected to fight for recognition and for treatment options.
When the AIDS epidemic started in the early

Who Is Lennie A Good Character In Of Mice And Men
Everybody has good and bad characteristics right? Lennie from the novel of mice and Men by John
Steinbeck has many positive traits and negative traits. Lennie is always getting George frustrated, but
Lennie cares about George as George cares for him. One positive trait that Lennie has is that he is very
caring. Suddenly Lennie s eyes centered and grew quiet, and mad. He stood up and walked
dangerously toward crooks. Who hurt George? He demanded.(p.66) Lennie is mad at crooks because
he begins to make Lennie worried by telling him that George is hurt. Lennie cares about George, so he
gets mad that there is a chance George is hurt. He does this to make sure that George is safe. A second
positive trait that Lennie has is that he is strong. On page 37 slim says There ain t nobody can keep up
with him. God awmighty I never seen such a strong guy. This shows how strong Lennie is and how
much work he can get done because of his strength. One last positive trait that Lennie has is that he

After this controversy regarding certain ratings, people begin to ask, does the MPAA have any certain
biases? Here are the facts, according to George Gerbner (University of Pennsylvania, 1987), violence
of children s television shows (includes violent characters, victims and perpetrators of violence) are
double than that of prime time adult television shows. Back in 1961, Albert Bandura conducted the
Bobo Doll Experiment to study aggression in children. With Bandura s developing Observational
Learning theory (learning by observing). He carried out an experiment with two groups of children,
one who watched a film of an adult playing with a Bobo doll violently, and one group that did not. The
group that witness the violent behaviour were more aggressive towards the doll as opposed to the
other group of children. When children are young, they are exposed to many different violent cartoons
(The Roadrunner, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tom and Jerry, Dragon Ball Z, etc.) and thus effects
the children when they grow older. Children exposed to violent cartoons growing up are more likely to
be aggressive, decreases concerns about suffering of victims and becomes desensitized

Identity In The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
F. Scott Fitzgerald created a novel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which explores how
identity can be uttered by the age of a person. Benjamin Button shows how confusion towards his own
identity can be dictated by a unique way of aging backwards and becoming younger as time exceeds.
One s identity and how he or she stereotypically acts primarily depends on that person s age. Due to
his unusual aging condition, Benjamin struggles with his identity throughout his life. For example, he
is able to create mature conversations at a young age of eighteen at the dance with Hildegarde and
play as a five year old without any care in the world when he is chronologically much older. He must
learn to cope with this way of aging and understand how others may view him in social settings.
Benjamin faces many difficult situations in which he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identity typically changes with age, however he changes very little because he does not have full
awareness of his identity. Age identity refers to the inner most experience of a person s age and aging
process (Jose 2017). Fitzgerald emphasizes Benjamin s loss of consciousness more in the novel than
Fincher does in the film. At a certain point, Benjamin stops struggling to determine who he is and just
essentially waits for time to run out. He would play simply games with his grandson when they are
both around the age of children beginning kindergarten. Benjamin and his grandson would continue
this until he passed away. In contrast, it seems that Benjamin and his wife fight further to the end in
the film, and he passes away with her by his side. The relationship between Benjamin and Daisy was
stronger in the film than in the novel. His identity is very important to him in the middle of his life
when he wants to go to college and enroll in the war, but towards the end he loses awareness of any
self perception he had built and slips into

The Psydiscipline Of The Sapir-Whorf Exphesis
In linguistics, one of the most important and most controversial, so to speak is the Sapir Whorf
hypothesis. This blog post is going to focus on this hypothesis.
Language is not thought
Before anything else, we need to establish one thing: language is not thought, just as well that heaven
is not hell. One might say that he is thinking using words and sentences, but this is not the case.
I, for one, had always believed that I think using words. But this article from Science 2.0 let me know
that thoughts are not words and vice versa. Also, we watched a video clip in class wherein Steven
Pinker, a Harvard professor, explained that language is different from thought, writing and grammar.
I want to highlight this paragraph from the Science 2.0 article by ... Show more content on

However language and thought are connected. We have a subdiscipline for that, called
psycholinguistics. This subdiscipline is concerned with the relation of cognition and language.
We are yet to discuss this topic so forgive me for my lack of knowledge.
The Sapir Whorf hypothesis
We may have said that cognition is not the same as language, but according to Edward Sapir and
Benjamin Lee Whorf, language affects a person s thoughts. To make it formal, the definition given by
dictionary.com might be useful:
[The Sapir Whorf theory is] a theory developed by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf that states
that the structure of a language determines or greatly influences the modes of thought and behavior
characteristic of the culture in which it is spoken.
Linguistic relativism
This is the weaker form of the hypothesis and states that different languages encode different
categories. Therefore, speakers of different languages view the world in different ways. I see that I
need to provide concrete examples of this, and so I have decided to includ evidences for linguistic
relativism cited in Introduction to linguistics by Fromkin et. al.

But that article was published in Newsweek and never appeared in a peer reviewed journal

public through false publications. The economical and political factors that are affecting this issue are
the costs this is going to have on large companies. The truth about global warming is especially
inconvenient and unwelcome to some powerful people and companies making enormous sums of
money from activities they know full well will have to change in order to ensure the planet s livability
(Inconvenient Truth). If market capitalism can be made an ally of environmentalism, then businesses
will keep track of all the economic decisions made, whether they have good or bad consequences. The
most interesting thing I found about this film was the speed of which global warming is occurring. I
always thought it would happen at a much slower pace than it actually is. The most surprising part
about the film was when he talked about how the extinction rate today is 100 to 1000 times higher
than it should be. The most poignant scenes were the ones showing the glaciers melting and the one
showing the present day and projected carbon dioxide levels. The glacier scene showed pictures of
glaciers 30 years ago progressing up to today. There was a drastic difference in the size of the glaciers
and some were almost gone completely. The scene showing the CO2 levels was

of this painting, as it still remains unclear. Firstly, I will give a short introduction about the painter.
Then, I will examine the characteristics of the people and the objects in the painting. Lastly, I will

What does the distorted skull mean? According to the analysis of some experts, this skull added to the
Ambassadors marks the artist s consistent vision of the frailty of human destiny. Others think that it
might not hold any meaning to it. Holbein has used mathematics to draw the skull by a process called
anamorphic projection. Maybe the skull was added just because Holbein wanted to show off his skills
because intense calculations are needed to create such effects. Other than the skull on the foreground,
there is another skull hidden in the band of Jean de Dinteville s cap and a crucifix hidden behind the
green curtain on the far left of the painting. It still remains unclear that why these two skulls and the
crucifix are placed in the painting. #10086;Conclusion Lastly, after much observation, I think this
painting has close relations with Religion and Death. The Crucifix and the Skull known as symbol of
death suggests how death is inevitable for human beings. It indicates the hidden yet truthful realization
of human mortality. Whilst the ambassadors stand there proudly amid their tools of knowledge, death
is constantly there. No matter how advance science is, death is inevitable. I am sure Holbein painted
the Crucifix for a reason. Maybe he is trying to indicate that people are so overwhelm by the progress
of science that they start to forget about the importance of

The Atomic Bomb Changed The Course Of History
The atomic bomb changed the course of history, saving the U.S. from losing to Japan. This bomb had
an impact on the world both metaphorically and physically. No such weapon had combined science
and technology so smoothly other than the device that, ever since its creation, blew away Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. On August 2, 1939, Einstein proposed an interesting to President Franklin D.
Roosevelt. This idea, called the atomic bomb, would change the lives of everyone. Making it was
easier said than done, though. They needed a team of scientists: Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm,
Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Felix Bloch, Otto Prisch, Rudolf Peierls, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre,
James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Edward Teller. Then they had to find U 235, which
looked exactly like U 238, a useless material. The process was hard, especially since only mechanical
methods worked. Finally, after an extraction system, a magnetic separation, and a gas centrifuge, all
that was needed to be done was to test the entire concept in the deserts of Jornada del Muerto (about

dark sky, slowly transforming into an orange ball of fire shooting up 360 feet per second. The

What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s
At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a
fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World War II
countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar world. While
the Soviet Union and the United States were allies during the world wars, they were the one with the
biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming what we now know
as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer from the war and the
American people still fear communism.
To begin with, both the United States and the Soviet Union had their own beliefs about what would
benefit our world during the postwar period. After World War II, both Russia and the United States
competed to be the greatest world power, When two sides competed for influence and power in this
way, the Cold War began. The United States and the Soviet Union were both great world powers who

The Conspiracy Of Atlantis
Conspiracy theories are everywhere in this world, one thing happens and people turn it into something
that may be true or may not be true. Atlantis is a conspiracy theory because no one truly knows if it
exists or not. Atlantis is supposedly an island in the Atlantic Ocean that is better than life itself.
Atlantis existed hundreds of thousands of years ago when the Greek gods ruled over the world.
Poseidon ruled Atlantis with his mortal wife Cleito, and were chosen to protect all of Atlantis.
Atlantean s had powers that could heal the ill, and their army was the strongest in the world. With all
that power something happened that is unknown and caused the Atlantean army to be wiped out in a
day and a night. The same thing happened to the island itself, a catastrophic flood and earthquake took
over Atlantis and caused it to fall into the ocean.
Atlantis was an extraordinary city that tragically and mysteriously vanished from a day and a night.
The story that Plato said is that Atlantis was a island that was better than life itself, As Stemman stated
in his book about Atlantis Poseidon, Greek God of the sea and also of earthquakes was given Atlantis,
and there he fell in love with a mortal called Cleito (56). The city of Atlantis is a place that had

Capacity planning is a critical process for the successful implementation of IT projects. This is
especially true for information management programs since resource utilization increases with rapidly
growing data. As businesses consider more opportunities for leveraging data for different purposes,
resources are impacted, resulting in poor loading and response times.
Across Industry verticals there is increasing adoption of Hadoop for Information Management and
Analytics. Many have realized that in addition to new business related capabilities Hadoop also offers
a host of options for IT Simplification and cost reduction. Initiatives such as Offloads are at the heart
of such optimization. That said, capacity planning is the first step that needs to be carried out
successfully for either a IT driven use case or a business driven use case. This paper takes a look at
why Big Data processing frameworks such as Hadoop clusters require careful capacity planning for
the timely launch of Big Data based capabilities. Additionally, it discusses how capacity planning can
facilitate appropriate service level agreement (SLA) guarantees and ensure deliveries within defined
budgets. These types of guarantees with sets of standard hardware configuration are the key for
effective capacity planning. The key constituent of overall capacity management strategy for the
Hadoop eco system is Cluster Capacity Planning. It is this part of the strategy that caters to the
troublesome and unavoidable

Introduction
Transit oriented development (TOD) is a mixed use residential or commercial area intended to
maximize access to public transportation. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public
transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading
outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile
from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians.
However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many
developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not
necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a thrilling community
centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. As such, a pedestrian friendly
environment is critical to TOD, but is not essential to transit adjacent development. ... Show more

So , they discourage a person s self dependency and endorse transit use, thereby enabling traffic
crowding, improving air quality, and limiting carbon discharges. A TOD neighborhood
characteristically has a center with a train station, metro station, tram stop, or bus stop, enclosed by
comparatively high density development with increasingly lower density development spreading away

Herbal Medicine Vs. Herbal Medicines
A natural drug because it is derived from nature is beginning to emerge at a faster rate and is known as
the alternative medicine or herbal medicines. Botanical medicine or Herbalism is another way of
describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat
illness and assist the bodily functions (Herbalism). Pharmaceutical drugs are said to be inevitable, but
so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. These days herbal
medicine is marketed aggressively across the world, so it s a good time to take a look at why this is,
and what advantages herbal medicine can offer over prescription drugs. Herbal remedies are gradually
becoming more accepting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So we automatically think, oh, they were not supposed to take these drugs or they abused the
substance, wrong, the patients are not the ones at fault and neither are the doctors, people are
following the directions, the bolded print on the back and the prescriptions given, but are still dying.
Sadly, this is occurring because doctors simply are unable to know how every single one of our bodies
reacts to a certain medicine causing different symptoms and side effects and some unable to withhold
the prescripted amount. This is exactly why people avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they are dangerous,
unpredictable, and at times fatal. Herbal medicines are a newer face to medicine, but have already met
the standards and exceeded the expectations of pharmaceutical drugs because you are unable to
overdose on a plant, and no synthesized chemicals are included with these because it is 100% derived
from nature and these medicines only turn symptom filled and fatal when the scientists get their hands
on them. Nature is our friend and so are herbal remedies. Along with the synthesized chemicals used
to produce these drugs they fail in the category of availability as well. For one, these drugs need
scientists, doctors, physicians, pharmacists and many other highly educated individuals to make just
one pill. Places that suffer from low income, poor environment, and destroyed hope are unable to

Holmes And Watson Research Paper
There are a string of dynamic duos that fight crime throughout history, from Batman and Robin to
Starsky and Hutch, and somewhere along the list is the pairing of Sherlock Holmes and Watson and
there is no doubt that this pairing is an interesting one. They seem like such opposites but that is a big
factor in why they work so well together. It works because it embodies the old time saying: opposites
attract . Sherlock is this detective genius that does not feel things or really understand the people
around him so he has Watson to fall back on. In a way they teach each other. Holmes helps Watson
become a better detective while Watson teaches Holmes how to interact with the outside world. It is
said that this pairing was one of Doyle s greatest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would only take a few pages for the brilliant Sherlock Holmes to solve the mystery and tell his
readers his decision. Also with the way he speaks and his mannerisms most people might not even be
able to translate Holmes s language into something the everyday populous can understand. This means
that the risk of the stories fading out and never being remembered is a very real possibility. On the
other side of the coin, if everything was only seen and told from Watson s point of view there would
not be a very mysterious element about it. For example, when he is staying with Sir Henry at the moor
the story seems to drag because he only notices the obvious things that seem to be odd. If this was all
the story had to offer the audience might dislike Watson just as much as they would a solo Holmes.
Some things that work well together do not work very well apart. This pairing is definitely one of

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Enlightenment
The Age of Reason, also known as the Enlightenment, took place in Europe in the 18th century. It
became a time period that consisted of new knowledge and wisdom. People began to see the world in
a different way, and began to think more logically. The Enlightenment was a major turning point in
Europe since it led to new scientific discoveries, a secular way of viewing religion, and a shift in the
way the government ruled.
Before the Enlightenment philosophical ideas were not supported with evidence and just assumed to
be correct. Many people in European society did not question or argue ideas shared by respected
scientists. For example, many believed Aristotle in his belief that Earth was the center of the universe.
Aristotle also thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the Enlightenment, God was viewed as the creator of everything. Many believed that God
controlled every aspect of life, and many concepts were credited to God. Yet when the idea of thinking
with reason and logic came to light, people stopped using God as an explanation for everything. A
new, secular view on religion began to form, which meant some people questioned religion while
others found scientific explanations for God s existence. For example, many people believed in
Deism. Deists believed that God made the world and then had no interaction with the events that
occured. Deism said that God made it possible for people to discover laws as well as apply reason to
ideas. Others believed in Pantheism which stated that nature and God were the same thing. All these
new beliefs that came to light affected European society by helping minimize the reliance on religion
and emphasize logical reasoning. The idea of questioning religion and tradition during the
Enlightenment can be compared to the Reformation in 16th century. During the Reformation, religion
was questioned in terms of papal authority, while in the Enlightenment, religion is questioned on terms
of logic and reason. Both times in history led to more secular views on

What Is The Hewlett Packard Spying Technique Known As...
Introduction
This paper will evaluate the business case study of the Hewlett Packard scandal of 2006 which dealt
with the spying technique known as pretexting. A description of the events that led up to the scandal
and an explanation of how long the spying went undetected is included along with an evaluation of the
results of the punishment incurred by the perpetrators and whether the charges fit the crime.
Additionally, a discussion on how this ethical breach affected Hewlett Packard s internal and external
stakeholders over the following years. This paper will also identify ethical violations that are
committed by individuals on a personal level in business organizations.
Brief History of Hewlett Packard
Hewlett Packard (HP) was founded by William Hewlett and David Packard in a small garage in Palo
Alto, California in 1939 and grew into a successful company that provided leading technological
innovations. HP grew into a global, high tech company specializing in developing and manufacturing
information technology (IT) including personal computers, industry servers, storage devices,
networking products, imaging and printing devices, and software. According to (Packard, 2006),
When HP went public in 1957, Packard wrote down the management beliefs he and Hewlett shared,
including a respect for and trust in employees, an environment that fostered creativity, and a flat
management hierarchy (Packard, 2006). These ideals became known as the HP Way and served as a
model

Gender Roles In Childrens Literature Essay
Gender Bias in Literature
I have thought about many different ways to organize this paper and have come to the conclusion that
the best way to approach the topic is on a book by book basis. My perceptions of the gender biases in
these books vary greatly and I did not want to begin altering my views on each so that they would fit
into certain contrived connections. What interests me most in these stories is how the authors utilize
certain character s within their given environment. Their instincts and reactions are a wonderful
window into how the authors perceive these people would interact with their surroundings and often
are either rewarded or punished by the author through consequences in the plot for ... Show more

Pendanski, a whiny and unrespected man in the grand scheme of things at camp, in the role of mother.
They did not turn to the only woman present at the camp, nor the man who disciplines them each day,
to fill their maternal needs. Instead they turn to the weakest figure in their lives and mock him by
referring to him as a woman. This demonstrates to us that Sachar considers femininity a weakness in
this world and has no issues showing us. As Ernst wrote, How easy is it to relegate girls to second
class citizens when they are seen as second class citizens, or not at all (Ernst 67).
This point is only furthered by the fact that the only woman present is such a fairy tale character. She
is portrayed to us as all but a sorceress and it can be assumed she has taken on this persona in order to
survive in a predominately male post in a totally male dominated environment. Even in our class it
was evident that many readers were taken aback by the fact that Sachar chose to make his warden a
female. And so it again can be seen that Sachar has imparted onto us a bias that a real woman could
not function in this world so he had to invent a completely fictional and grandiose one. With all the
other characters in the book appearing so human, it seems obvious he turned the warden into a beast
because he felt he had to.
In What Jamie Saw, by Carolyn Coman, gender bias shows itself in a new way. In this book

Child Support Hearing
This week I had the pleasure of sitting in on five hearings. On Monday Magistrate Akel allowed me to
observe a child support hearing where both parties were living in Iowa. The initial order was given
while the couple lived in Florida. When the father moved to Iowa he was ordered to pay $509.00
dollars a month in child support. The mother sent the child to Iowa to visit his father for a week but
the child never came back to Florida. While the child was in the father s custody he continued to pay
child support to the mother. During the hearing, the father wanted to ensure that his ex wife placed the
money that she owed him into a depository account. The attorney representing the father pointed out
that she was behind in paying him back. The attorney as well as the father believed that the she was
using the money to support her other children. The mother claimed that all of the money that she owed
her ex husband was already in the depository. Magistrate Akel made sure that the mother was aware
that if the money was not there she would be held in contempt of court.
The next hearing involved timesharing. The mother and father could not agree on a schedule that was
best for the child. The mother was concerned that the father was not bonding enough because his

The hearing that I thought was very interesting involved an eighteen year old who committed a crime
when he was seventeen. He was intoxicated when he shot a fourteen year old in the abdomen. The
charges that were brought against him were being in possession of a firearm and manslaughter with a
deadly weapon. The State found him guilt on these charges and offered the defendant a plea deal with
a sentence of 10 years. Based on the points that the defendant accumulated, the mandatory minimum
for the crimes he committed were 25 years. His attorney attempted to reduce the sentence even more,

Reflecting On The Residential School System
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL SYSTEM
3. In reflecting on the Residential School System in Canada, discuss why Elders teachings and courses
in Indigenous studies are important today. Between 1875 and 1996, First Nations children were forced
to attended residential schools to be systematically assimilated into an English Christian society
through abuse, segregation, and racism. Residential schools were created by the Canadian government
to transition First Nations children into a newly colonized Canada, but somewhere something went
wrong and the policy of teaching was corrupted into assimilation through abuse. The priority of
residential schools was to kill the Indian in the child. As a result many languages and cultures were
lost as children were not taught the traditions of their heritages and could not pass on this knowledge
to their children. Residential schools directly contributed to the loss of the First Nations traditional
cultures and created a cycle of abuse for generations to come.
Dickason, Olive Patricia and Long, David. (2011). Visions of the Heart. Oxford University Press. First
Nations Elders maintain traditional lifestyles and beliefs. They continue to spread the oral traditions
that once were very well known. After residential schools were created a lot of knowledge was lost
from the First Peoples, and the Elders have become a primary source for this knowledge perseverance.
Elders continue to accrue, especially both to their role and function and to the

German Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Coming from a German culture, my family stays traditional in the way we celebrate holidays and eat
food. The differences between German and American culture are very evident in their holiday
traditions and meals, but there are also some similarities, such as language, that are often overlooked.
When I think of the differences between German and American culture, one of the first things that
comes to mind is how Christmas is celebrated. In Germany, it is always celebrated on Christmas Eve.
Instead of Santa, children are told that if they behave well, Kris Kringle or Christkindl , meaning
Christ Child, will leave presents for them under the tree. While waiting for the presents to come, the
family will gather around the table to eat dinner

Quote By Gregory Crewdson
Gregory Crewdson s work is very inspiring he manages to complete an entire story an entire character
art all in one image and you really get involved in his world. Using light and colour cinematically
places a major roll, the picture becomes an operatic framing device there so rich with props and all the
other little details that when you look closer you will find something different
Crewdson works with a medium format camera, eight by ten colour negatives each print is fifty nine
inches by nighty inches, when you look close at his image you see clarity and detail. Crewsdon used
Epson printing process in his studio maintaining control over the entire process which allowed him to

Crewdson understood how to read images his interest is to understand and reveal secretes about life,
his photographs helps establish order within chaos of everyday life.
To contemplate what is going on in this photograph I think it is left up to the viewer to find for
themselves what the meaning is behind the photograph does this make crewdson s work not as deep
because there is no hidden message or meaning in his work I don t believe it should be just on those
criteria what took me to this image in the first place was the mystery where the narrative to this image
is open to interpretation were the photograph is not showing what has happened before or after it is
left up to the viewer s imagination to find the answer. The capacity of this photograph is not to tell you
anything at all the image hovers around reality and fiction and the image remains open ended.
Gregory Crewdson works in two distinct ways to create his photographs. On one hand, he works on
location in real neighborhoods and townships. On the other hand, the artist works on the soundstage
inventing his world from scratch. Before the photographic location productions start, Crewdson drives
around upstate Massachusetts looking for interesting settings, which he then has prepared in an
elaborate process. In most cases, local residents of the ramshackle towns also play the characters in his
work. Crewdson works

  • 2. Analysis Of Beverly Daniel Tatum s Article Defining Racism Beverly Daniel Tatum article Defining Racism she states that racism is still alive today theres no one way to ever truly escape completely. When we claim to be free of prejudice, perhaps what we are really saying is that we are not hate mongers. But no one is completely innocent. (Tatum6)We all say or think we are completely free of being stereotypical but how can we not when its all around us in the media or just the way we grew up and weren t able to change where we went to school or where we lived. Each of us needs to look at our own behavior. Am I perpetuating and reinforcing the negative messages..,or am I seeking to challenge them? • 3. Hdac8 Inhibition Synthesis The influence of substitutions at the heteroaromatic ring of the synthesized compounds CMP 1e 5e on HDAC8 inhibition activity was examined. The results of the enzyme assays are shown in Table 3.11. The results showed that CMP 1e and 5e inhibited HDAC8 much more significantly at 0.1 ÎźM concentration when compared to the standard drug SAHA. The percentage of inhibition for all the compounds tested was found to be in the range of 56.3 78.5%. Even though, greater steric tolerance existed at the HDAC8 active site near the entrance of the capping group than the metal binding moiety region, the pyridimine (CMP 1e, 2e 4e) and pyridine analogues (CMP 5e) displayed the greatest inhibitory activity at IC50 0.1 ÂľM. • 4. Rebecca Clarke s `` Cinderella No More `` I decided to choose a theme for my final paper which will be related to my instrument viola. I choose Rebecca Clarke , probably the most prominent women composer who wrote for viola. Most of Clarke s compositions were written in the first three decades of the twentieth century, her works was largely unknown until the 1970th. Such is the curiously small impact she made as a composer in England in her life time that the first edition of Lionel Turtis s book Cinderella no more doesn t mention her viola Sonata, even though now violist from all over the world would regard it as one of the principal works for the instrument of its era. This seems very interesting to me and I will discuss why it happened and why women composers had no space in the professional society of that time. Also, I will talk about Rebecca Clarke as one of the firs women who broke the rules in a male dominated musical world ( she became one of the first female professional musician in the orchestra). Interest in her writing has grown a lot recently and many of her works entered the standard viola repertoire. Because she wrote during the time of first feminist wave in England and her rediscovering overlaps with the second wave feminism in America musicologist mainly discuss her personality and her compositions in the implications of gender on analysis. I will discuss her Viola Sonata considering this recent feminist theory of gender and I will write about her personality as a composer and a performer, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Project Runway host showed off her long slender legs and pert buttocks as she posed next to a wooden spoon with the words The Naughty Spoon written on it. The America s Got Talent judge gave the photo a simple caption of Ouch. She added no additional details as to where or why the photo had been taken or who the man lifting up the other end of the woman s denim jeans shorts might be. In this case, it may be that they do not have any internal controls. Top level management needs to ensure these controls are created and being met. I think safeguards in financial reporting should within the company s internal mechanisms. Putting COSO s Theory into Practice explains how their framework can be used for internal audits. This will guide companies in a direction which will benefit everyone from top executives to all stakeholders. The COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission) framework consists of components such as monitoring, control activities, information communication, risk assessment, and control environment. All of these components put together create a system that will help mitigate risks. This framework also helps with enhancing current controls to ensure the reliability of their financial statements. I believe that Waltham s lack of internal controls has caused some of the instability in their financial reporting. For the month of May, they had no monitoring of their lost contracts and also had no mention of how many units the contract was for or if they already created the units. The report was communicated informally, and not very concise or consistent. There was no control environment to ensure consistency within this reporting. • 7. Music, The Food Of Neuroscience In the article, Music, the food of neuroscience? Robert Zattore, a cognitive neuroscientist, suggested that we should consider music, art, and culture in a biological perspective (312). There is a well known quote by Friedrich Nietzsche that speaks out to many people and states, Without music, life would be a mistake . This article by Zattore makes a reader consider if music has a bigger meaning in our lives than we think. The author argues that we can learn about neuroscience through music as these musical products of human cognition may give us valuable scientific insights. Furthermore, the author supported this claim by explaining how we know little about neuroscience of music research, the relationship between speech and music, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Zattore s article, the research behind people with amusia has shown that music depends on neural processes and therefore that music can indeed lend itself to scientific study (313). There is no doubt that a decent section of this article was devoted to explaining how little we know and how complicated it is to make discoveries in this topic of musical neuroscience. In addition to justifying how determining which aspects of music apply to neuroscience, Zattore suggests that music has a correlation with speech. Some researchers believe that music and speech share several similarities. Speech processing takes place in the left half of the brain so scientists wonder if this asymmetry is mirrored in the right hemisphere for music (313). On the other hand, the author states that there have been cases where individuals have lost their speech functions due to auditory damage but show high level musical function, like the example Zattore gives of the Russian composer Vissarion Shebalin (313). Furthermore, the author explains how certain studies have shown promising results when comparing how speech relates to music. Neuroimaging studies demonstrate that some functions like syntax may require similar neural resources for both speech and music (313). Zattore is careful to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Symbolism Between C.S. Lewis´ The Lion, The Witch and The... The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in The Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus death is not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism even though the allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is an allegory. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying to help the Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the snow. Some critics also argue that the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The fox represents people who do not seem to be religious but when tested are proved to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their lives for the sake of their beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S. Lewis seems to have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through Aslan. The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further prove that Narnia is an allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us betraying God, yet Aslan as does God, rescues Edmund and is prepared to give his life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give Edmund life makes a treaty with the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and naturally, the White Witch is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ was who died on the cross in payment for our sins and Aslan died for Edmund. On the way to Calvary, Jesus remained silent, as did Aslan. • 10. Essay On The Protest Movement The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDS from both the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement about this civil disobedience from people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest movement itself was divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other. Each had disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the movement. In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil disobedience, had a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment of individuals living with AIDS. In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new, deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay disease, but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with indifference. This led those affected to fight for recognition and for treatment options. When the AIDS epidemic started in the early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In retrospect, movie ratings are great and quite helpful when deciding to what a movie with your parents and younger siblings as oppose to watching a movie by yourself or with friends. Here are the facts, according to George Gerbner (University of Pennsylvania, 1987), violence of children s television shows (includes violent characters, victims and perpetrators of violence) are double than that of prime time adult television shows. Back in 1961, Albert Bandura conducted the Bobo Doll Experiment to study aggression in children. With Bandura s developing Observational Learning theory (learning by observing). He carried out an experiment with two groups of children, one who watched a film of an adult playing with a Bobo doll violently, and one group that did not. • 14. Identity In The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button F. Scott Fitzgerald created a novel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which explores how identity can be uttered by the age of a person. Benjamin Button shows how confusion towards his own identity can be dictated by a unique way of aging backwards and becoming younger as time exceeds. One s identity and how he or she stereotypically acts primarily depends on that person s age. Due to his unusual aging condition, Benjamin struggles with his identity throughout his life. For example, he is able to create mature conversations at a young age of eighteen at the dance with Hildegarde and play as a five year old without any care in the world when he is chronologically much older. He must learn to cope with this way of aging and understand how others may view him in social settings. Benjamin faces many difficult situations in which he ... At a certain point, Benjamin stops struggling to determine who he is and just essentially waits for time to run out. He would play simply games with his grandson when they are both around the age of children beginning kindergarten. Benjamin and his grandson would continue this until he passed away. In contrast, it seems that Benjamin and his wife fight further to the end in the film, and he passes away with her by his side. The relationship between Benjamin and Daisy was stronger in the film than in the novel. This blog post is going to focus on this hypothesis. Language is not thought Before anything else, we need to establish one thing: language is not thought, just as well that heaven is not hell. One might say that he is thinking using words and sentences, but this is not the case. I, for one, had always believed that I think using words. But this article from Science 2.0 let me know that thoughts are not words and vice versa. We have a subdiscipline for that, called psycholinguistics. This subdiscipline is concerned with the relation of cognition and language. We are yet to discuss this topic so forgive me for my lack of knowledge. The Sapir Whorf hypothesis We may have said that cognition is not the same as language, but according to Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf, language affects a person s thoughts. To make it formal, the definition given by dictionary.com might be useful: [The Sapir Whorf theory is] a theory developed by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf that states that the structure of a language determines or greatly influences the modes of thought and behavior characteristic of the culture in which it is spoken. Linguistic relativism This is the weaker form of the hypothesis and states that different languages encode different categories. Therefore, speakers of different languages view the world in different ways. I see that I need to provide concrete examples of this, and so I have decided to includ evidences for linguistic relativism cited in Introduction to linguistics by Fromkin et. al. ... The truth about global warming is especially inconvenient and unwelcome to some powerful people and companies making enormous sums of money from activities they know full well will have to change in order to ensure the planet s livability (Inconvenient Truth). If market capitalism can be made an ally of environmentalism, then businesses will keep track of all the economic decisions made, whether they have good or bad consequences. The most interesting thing I found about this film was the speed of which global warming is occurring. I always thought it would happen at a much slower pace than it actually is. The most surprising part about the film was when he talked about how the extinction rate today is 100 to 1000 times higher than it should be. The most poignant scenes were the ones showing the glaciers melting and the one showing the present day and projected carbon dioxide levels. The glacier scene showed pictures of glaciers 30 years ago progressing up to today. There was a drastic difference in the size of the glaciers and some were almost gone completely. The purpose of this report is to analyze Han Holbeinfs painting, gThe Ambassadorsh. The main task of this report is to uncover the meaning of this painting, as it still remains unclear. Firstly, I will give a short introduction about the painter. Then, I will examine the characteristics of the people and the objects in the painting. Lastly, I will attempt to identify the meaning of the painting. #10086;About Han Holbein Hans Holbein the younger was a German artist born in Augsburg, Bavaria. According to the analysis of some experts, this skull added to the Ambassadors marks the artist s consistent vision of the frailty of human destiny. Others think that it might not hold any meaning to it. Holbein has used mathematics to draw the skull by a process called anamorphic projection. Maybe the skull was added just because Holbein wanted to show off his skills because intense calculations are needed to create such effects. Other than the skull on the foreground, there is another skull hidden in the band of Jean de Dinteville s cap and a crucifix hidden behind the green curtain on the far left of the painting. It still remains unclear that why these two skulls and the crucifix are placed in the painting. #10086;Conclusion Lastly, after much observation, I think this painting has close relations with Religion and Death. The Crucifix and the Skull known as symbol of death suggests how death is inevitable for human beings. It indicates the hidden yet truthful realization of human mortality. Whilst the ambassadors stand there proudly amid their tools of knowledge, death is constantly there. No matter how advance science is, death is inevitable. I am sure Holbein painted the Crucifix for a reason. Maybe he is trying to indicate that people are so overwhelm by the progress of science that they start to forget about the importance of ... This bomb had an impact on the world both metaphorically and physically. No such weapon had combined science and technology so smoothly other than the device that, ever since its creation, blew away Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 2, 1939, Einstein proposed an interesting to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This idea, called the atomic bomb, would change the lives of everyone. Making it was easier said than done, though. They needed a team of scientists: Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm, Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Felix Bloch, Otto Prisch, Rudolf Peierls, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre, James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Edward Teller. Then they had to find U 235, which looked exactly like U 238, a useless material. The process was hard, especially since only mechanical methods worked. Finally, after an extraction system, a magnetic separation, and a gas centrifuge, all that was needed to be done was to test the entire concept in the deserts of Jornada del Muerto (about money). The Gadget was quickly put together. Upon detonating, the white blaze shot through the still dark sky, slowly transforming into an orange ball of fire shooting up 360 feet per second. What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World War II countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar world. While the Soviet Union and the United States were allies during the world wars, they were the one with the biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming what we now know as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer from the war and the American people still fear communism. Atlantis is a conspiracy theory because no one truly knows if it exists or not. This is especially true for information management programs since resource utilization increases with rapidly growing data. As businesses consider more opportunities for leveraging data for different purposes, resources are impacted, resulting in poor loading and response times. Across Industry verticals there is increasing adoption of Hadoop for Information Management and Analytics. Many have realized that in addition to new business related capabilities Hadoop also offers a host of options for IT Simplification and cost reduction. Initiatives such as Offloads are at the heart of such optimization. That said, capacity planning is the first step that needs to be carried out successfully for either a IT driven use case or a business driven use case. This paper takes a look at why Big Data processing frameworks such as Hadoop clusters require careful capacity planning for the timely launch of Big Data based capabilities. Additionally, it discusses how capacity planning can facilitate appropriate service level agreement (SLA) guarantees and ensure deliveries within defined budgets. These types of guarantees with sets of standard hardware configuration are the key for effective capacity planning. The key constituent of overall capacity management strategy for the Hadoop eco system is Cluster Capacity Planning. It is this part of the strategy that caters to the troublesome and unavoidable ... Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians. However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a thrilling community centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. Botanical medicine or Herbalism is another way of describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat illness and assist the bodily functions (Herbalism). Pharmaceutical drugs are said to be inevitable, but so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. It became a time period that consisted of new knowledge and wisdom. People began to see the world in a different way, and began to think more logically. The Enlightenment was a major turning point in Europe since it led to new scientific discoveries, a secular way of viewing religion, and a shift in the way the government ruled. Deists believed that God made the world and then had no interaction with the events that occured. Deism said that God made it possible for people to discover laws as well as apply reason to ideas. Others believed in Pantheism which stated that nature and God were the same thing. All these new beliefs that came to light affected European society by helping minimize the reliance on religion and emphasize logical reasoning. They did not turn to the only woman present at the camp, nor the man who disciplines them each day, to fill their maternal needs. Instead they turn to the weakest figure in their lives and mock him by referring to him as a woman. This demonstrates to us that Sachar considers femininity a weakness in this world and has no issues showing us. As Ernst wrote, How easy is it to relegate girls to second class citizens when they are seen as second class citizens, or not at all (Ernst 67). This point is only furthered by the fact that the only woman present is such a fairy tale character. She is portrayed to us as all but a sorceress and it can be assumed she has taken on this persona in order to survive in a predominately male post in a totally male dominated environment. Even in our class it was evident that many readers were taken aback by the fact that Sachar chose to make his warden a female. And so it again can be seen that Sachar has imparted onto us a bias that a real woman could not function in this world so he had to invent a completely fictional and grandiose one. With all the other characters in the book appearing so human, it seems obvious he turned the warden into a beast because he felt he had to. In reflecting on the Residential School System in Canada, discuss why Elders teachings and courses in Indigenous studies are important today. Between 1875 and 1996, First Nations children were forced to attended residential schools to be systematically assimilated into an English Christian society through abuse, segregation, and racism. Residential schools were created by the Canadian government to transition First Nations children into a newly colonized Canada, but somewhere something went wrong and the policy of teaching was corrupted into assimilation through abuse. The priority of residential schools was to kill the Indian in the child. As a result many languages and cultures were lost as children were not taught the traditions of their heritages and could not pass on this knowledge to their children. Residential schools directly contributed to the loss of the First Nations traditional cultures and created a cycle of abuse for generations to come. Dickason, Olive Patricia and Long, David. (2011).
