The Meltdown Of Nuclear Families In The 1900s
A nuclear family is a family composed of a married father and mother and their children. This type of
family became increasingly popular following the industrial age in the 1900s. The nuclear family soon
became the norm as people transferred from large kin groups to smaller independent families
(Pulsipher, 2015). This posed a problem in the beginning because close relatives no longer played a
role in raising children and no longer had anyone to look after them in old age as they did when kin
groups were common. However, as time went on, nuclear families faced challenges and soon began to
fallout as a result of changes in couples. The meltdown of nuclear families are largely impart by
couples not getting married or by couples getting divorced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In order for a family to be considered nuclear, the parents must be married and have children
However, the number of unmarried couples in the United States nearly doubled in the 1900s as it grew
more common for people to not further their relationships. This caused the number of homes
consisting of nuclear families to reach their lowest level falling from 45% of all households in 1960 to
just 25.6% last year (Feder, 2001). Not only did it grow common for couples to not get married,
divorce grew common. This influenced the number of children who, instead of being a part of a
nuclear family, were a part of a single parent family. In fact, due to divorce, 43% of American children
spent at least part of their childhood in a single parent family in 1996 (Feder, 2001). Don Feder, author
on human events, explains that these shifts in attitude towards marriage and nuclear families has been
caused by changes in cultural influences such as media. In the early 1900s, marriage and family were
regarded as an integral part of existence, but as time went on the importance of nuclear families

Analysis Of Glenn Miller s In The Mood
Beethoven s Opus 131, 1st movement; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlFYC1U5viw The first
movement of Beethoven s Opus 131 begins with the first violin playing a dulcet melody in the key of
C# minor with an adagio tempo. A second violin player soon joins in playing the same melody, but
with a slightly lower pitch, in the style of a round. The lower voices continue to follow this pattern
until the cello has joined in to create a flowing rhythm. This feeling a motion is created through the
use of slurs, crescendos, and decrescendos. The combination of these symbols and the rising and
falling pitches being played creates a very emotional piece.
The instruments present in this piece are those in a classical string quartet, two violins, a viola, and a
cello. Quartets are often regarded as one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its call and response melody that continues through the piece gives an uplifting feeling, song with the
C major key it is written in. This key has no sharps or flats and is one of the most commonly used key
signature in western music. The woodwinds begin the call and response, which is followed by the
brass. While this is going on the bass is playing the root of the chords and the drum set is following a
swing beat.
When listening to this piece you can hear the joy behind the notes. This is because of the types of
notes used and the tempo. When looking at the written sheet music the amount of eighth notes is very
noticeable. The consistency of these notes does not add to the drama of the piece. It is the crescendos
and decrescendos that does that. This piece calls for extreme changes in the dynamics, which gives a
finale feel. All of these elements combine to create a piece that is not only joyful, but dramatic and
mysterious.

Australian History
Evolution of the Australian Colony Throughout the long history of the Australian colony, it
experienced great imperialism, exploration, conquest, and postcolonialism, revolution, conflict, trade,
human and environmental change, and the evolution of a progressive nation through colonialism. In
the effect of imperialism, exploration, conquest, and postcolonialism, Australia has faced many
difficulties, but established a secure foundation that has not broken throughout the rebellions and wars
that have plagued Australian history. Although the Australian revolution withheld many casualties, it is
one of the most important events in their history, as it united the republicans and aboriginals to fight as

The war was fought from 1922 1926 between the republic of australia (Republicans) and the
Queensland Republic (Queenies). The war was caused when Queensland, largely the east part of
Australia, seceded from the newly declared Republic Australia. This created a feeling of superiority
from Queensland to the western counterparts. After western australians were elected into office, this
led to the succession. Although the war was fought in superiority, aboriginal equality was a vital part
of the war. Australia used the apartheid system for years before General Rainford declared the
Aboriginal Edict during the war. This made Rainford highly unpopular in the east. During the war,
Rainford stepped forward, asking to create a truce. The Queensland officials refused to go to Perth, the
new capital, for the convention, which led to Rainford traveling to Brisbane. Once reaching Brisbane,
the Queensland officials refused to sit at a table with the aboriginals until it was promised that no body
parts would touch the table. The officials continued to treat the aboriginals with disrespect, even going
as far to call the aboriginals savages, which angered Rainford. Before leaving, he called the officials
fat cats and stormed out. On August seventh, the Queensland army of four thousand bombed the
republican of one thousand four hundred at Fort Lasseter. Queensland walked from the war victorious
on August tenth. By then, the new Republic of Queensland s flag was flying proudly above the fort.
General Patrick Cowpens and Howard Newfield both failed attempts to take back Brisbane. Grant
Odyssey organized the Odyssey invasion, in which he struck at the Queensland Republic at many
points, fighting with the aboriginals who aided him in this attack. Odyssey was able to defeat General

The law I am doing today is Your not allowed to wear slippers after 10:00 P.M. It effects people, and it

Government Intervention Lies Conviction Of The Existance...
At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the
existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim to
maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum Pareto
function properly (Francis M. Bator, 1958) . In other words, the market reduces the utility and waste
resources. It must therefore step a mediator usually government or legislative body which will correct
existing errors, improving the existing condition of things, that is, increasing the usability and
improving allocation. Interventionism is often called the third way, mixed economy, social market
economy or the welfare state and the main purpose of it is to achieve compromise between capitalism,
which is identified with the market econmy, and socialist system where the predominant form is
centrally planed economy. The term market failure, which for he first time appeared in 1958 (Francis
M. Bator, 1958), defines situation where the market does not perform in a rational ways its basic
functions; motivational and allocative. According to F.M.Bator, the market fails when people are fully
dedicated to their private interests what in fact leads to inefficiency. F.M. Bator argues that
businessmen`s desire for a ``quiet life`` is oposed to the fact that ` they have to do with the efficiency
of ``real life`` market institutions operated by ``real life`` people in a

Habitus By Bourdieu
The article Bourdieu and Habitus was not easy to read, but I found it enlightening as it helped to
reinforce my understanding of Bourdieu s concept of habitus by comparing and relating different roles
and norms of society. The term habitus derives from the Latin verb hebre meaning to have or to hold
(Swartz, 2002, p. 615), the concept grows out of Bourdieu s attempt to address the question, how the
human action follow regular pattern without being the product to some external structure, such as
cultural norms? The concept of habitus invites one to think of human practices as regulated by
transposable dispositions rather than cultural norms or by conscious attentions. The term dispositions
is key for Bourdieu, for it suggests a way of thinking about habit that is clearly different and more
active from the more popular idea of absolute repetition or routine. ... Show more content on

170), Referring to the text, Bourdieu does not see human action generating from habitus alone, There
is more to human action than dispositions formed in the past. Hence, Bourdieu employs two additional
concepts to complete his model of human practices; capital and field. Bourdieu has identified different
kinds of capitals, economic, social, cultural and symbolic being the principal ones that are unequally

The equation for radiation resistance is given in (1). As can be seen, the greater the radiation
resistance, the more energy is radiated or received by the antenna. When the radiation resistance of the
antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas also
have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient antenna
must be comparable to a wavelength in size.
(4.6)
A second parameter of antennas is the
Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space.
Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three
dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane
patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H plane
pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. An example of each type is shown in
Figure 4.1, which gives the antenna pattern for a half wave dipole orientated in the z direction.

Today, I would like to bring up an issue that is prevalent to students lives. This issue arises especially
when students register and enroll in classes, only to find out that they re waitlisted. So comes the long
wait for the student who waits until his or her waitlist is lifted. During this time, it is easy for
miscommunication and confusion to arise for both the student and professor, and in the midst of this
chaotic scene are waitlisted discussion sections that the student may not know about. The problem
here in this situation is that waitlist positions in discussion sections are invisible to student s eyes and
are only shown to professor s and GSI s eyes. That is why I would like to argue today about this issue.

One of the survey questions can ask would you want waitlist position visible for both student
professor access? This question can be familiar to a student who has dealt with an experience where
their waitlisted positions were not visible to them. Not only that, but student voices will also give
more value into fixing this issue because faculty members will realize that if many students respond to
this question, they will sense that this enrollment issue is a major concern and will act to resolve this
issue. Moreover, using surveys will help faculty members to realize other students concerns with Cal
Student Central. What is also crucial is noting the pros and cons of fixing this enrollment issue. For
pros, I believe fixing this issue will allow there to be better communication between GSIs, professors,
and students, transparency, and visibility. As for cons, I don t see how there are any cons to solving
this problem. However, I would like to input my opinion that I do think that solving this problem will
benefit rather than detrimentally impact people affected by this enrollment

George Saunders s Speech Analysis

What do you regret in life? What will you regret later on in life? People regret a lot of things during
their lifetime, but what is the most critical thing to regret? I will tell you what. The answer is to find in
George Saunders speech Commencement Address delivered at Syracuse University in New York State
in May 2013. George Saunders is an American writer and university professor. In his speech, George
Saunders focuses on some moments in his life, but also bigger themes in life and work. The need for
kindness, the risk in focusing too much on success and the fact that we prioritize our own needs over
the needs of others, even though, deep down our heart we want to be less selfish, more opening and
loving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first part is about the fact that we think we are central to the universe, our personal story is the
most interesting and important. The second part is that we are separate from the universe, the US and
then all the others. It is like we are not one gathered unite in this world and therefore we feel
unfamiliar and different from people we do not know. The third part is that we are permanent which
means that people only want to focus on what has importance for their own life.
George Saunders describes success as a mountain that keeps growing ahead of you as you hike it This
metaphor contributes to the understanding of his point that says that there is a real danger of putting
too much focus in succeeding because it will take up your whole life. This is the only target people
nowadays will focus on and therefore the big questions go untended.
The message in George Saunders speech is that people should be more kind to each other and start
being less selfish. Lack of kindness and love is the exact thing you are going to regret. As the last part
of the speech shows, Saunders is exaggerating the imagination of how kind and loving the students are
in the future. [...] and we re both so kind and loving we re nearly unbearable, drop me a line, let me

Moral Dilemm Abortion In The United States
Moral Dilemma: Abortion United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this means
that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage, economic
policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values,
preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and
Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is
that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. In cases when it comes to gay
marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no other parties are harmed, but
with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to women, then unborn babies are the
ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme their life. To understand this issue we have
to consider both sides: by not allowing women to have an abortion, we are taking away their right to
control their bodies. Pregnancies often are unplanned and accidental and that means that a child can be
conceived without planning. Raising children is a life changing experience and it s not surprising that
people might not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the problems is that defining when a fetus can be called a baby is very hard, so while some
believe that getting an abortion when being 2 3 months pregnant is not a murder, others think that

conservatives take a less extreme stance and say that abortion can be allowed in special conditions, for
example, when a woman was raped and some liberals say that abortion should be permitted in any
case. So, the ideas ranging around this topic range from: no abortion should be tolerated and women
need to be punished, to women should have total freedom to decide what to do to their

Hamlet Film Comparison
Hamlet Film Comparison
William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play that has been turned into films numerous times by many
directors, is one of the most admired plays written by Shakespeare. Kenneth Branagh and Franco
Zeffirelli are both known for their adaptations of William Shakespeare s Hamlet. They have both
created two completely different and unique films from the same widely known play. Based on the
interpretation of the Ghost, the character of Ophelia, as well as Hamlet s To be or not to be speech,
Franco Zeffirelli s adaption of Hamlet proves to be significantly superior to Kenneth Branagh s film.
The way in which Zefirelli and Branagh s Hamlet film adaptations display the Ghost of Hamlet s
father differ significantly. In Zeffirelli s film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Zeffirelli s adaptation, Ophelia is constantly being portrayed as small and fragile. For instance, she
is shot from a high angle, making her appear more defenseless and powerless. Zeffirelli s choice of
casting Helena Bonham Carter as Ophelia reinforces the idea of innocence since she appears to be
very young and naïve. Throughout the film, Ophelia is constantly being shown separate from
everyone else, which hints at her impending insanity in the hands of Hamlet. By leaving Ophelia and
killing her father, Hamlet causes her to be truly isolated and alone. Close to the end, Zeffirelli shows
Ophelia as an unstable girl driven mad by Hamlet s cruel tactics and her father s murder. When
Gertrude sees Ophelia through the window, she sees how truly mad she has become. Dressed in dirty
rags and speaking nonsense, her innocence seems to be lost when she acts in a sexual manner towards
one of the guards by grabbing his belt. As Ophelia sings during the mad scene, Gertrude is very
clearly frightened by what she sees. The camera close ups also separate Ophelia from everyone else by
showing the singular response of everyone to her madness. Her loneliness and irrational behaviours
causes the audience to empathize with Ophelia. Although the effect that she has on the film is overall
very emotional, she makes the audience see Hamlet in an unflattering light as the one who drove her
to madness. Ophelia brings about the idea of crumbling innocence, thus making this scene more

I Am Responding To Question Number 2. “Retirement Is The
I am responding to question number 2. Retirement is the period of life, usually starting between age 60
and 65, during which an individual stops working in the paid labor force. (Lecture slides) According
to our text, the concept of retirement is a relatively recent phenomenon in Western society. (Hooyman,
Kawamoto, Kiyak. Aging Matters: An Introduction to Social Gerontology) People used to work until
they died, but people also used to die much earlier in their lives, so that could partly explain why that
was the case. Retirement also used to be mandatory at age 65 for most jobs, but people usually retired
before then around age 60. The average American now (in 2013) plans to retire at age 66 or 67,
compared to age 60 in 1995. (Study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is based on how much you paid into through taxes and not by your income. Social Security is the
major source of income for about 66% of older beneficiaries. For about 24% of beneficiaries it
provides 90% or more of their yearly income. (Study Guide) This is alarming because the average
yearly Social Security benefit in 2013 was about $14,144 a year or about $1179 per month. (Study
Guide) This might be a little hard to live comfortably from. Another form of incentive was pensions
and health insurance sponsered by employers. Pensions are usually offered in white collar jobs. These
are usually based on your earnings, unlike Social Security. The baby boomer generation wasn t very
lucky with how their hopes for retirement would be ruined. The baby boomer generation thought they
would have enough economic resources when they reached retirement, and they thought if they did
work in retirement, it wouldn t be because they had to. This is not the case for the baby boomers due
to global economic downturn and the recession. Instead, they are more likely to put off retirement got
financial reasons. In a 2011 survey, 25 percent of the respondents said they will need to work until at
least age 80 because they will not have enough money to retire comfortably. (Hooyman, Kawamoto,

Characteristics Of The Leadership Qualities Of Santa Anna
Leadership Qualities of Santa Anna
It began in the pre dawn darkness of March 6, 1836 Mexican general Santa Anna ordered an assault
force of 1800 men to unleash its fury on a tiny band of Texans defending a fort called the Alamo. The
history behind this tells how Texas was torn away from Mexico, and became part of the United States.
This may have been a victory of Santa Anna; however was an even greater victory for the humanity of
the defenders. Many believed this was a race war; however was an issue of competing political
systems. Santa Anna prepared to give command that would unleash attack. While the weary
Americans were catching up on sleep for the first time in two weeks, a Mexican began hollering and
yelling, which awoke a sleeping inside soldier. In the video Remember the Alamo , Santa Anna was
believed to be a skilled general and a hero of Mexico s fight for Independence from Spain. Santa Anna
became president in 1833 implicating federalism but only for a short time. He later changed and
suspended the Constitution of 1834 seeing federalist autonomy as a threat to the stability of Mexico
and his own grip on power. He very quickly shifted from being a federalist to a centralist to a dictator.
Those like Travis that had once stood behind Santa Anna, are now right in front of his guns. Santa
Anna guns would then be turned to Tejanos (Texans of Mexican birth), whom were horrified that
Constitution would be voided by the president. Upon Santa Anna becoming a

Essay on Two Forms of Journalism
Two Forms of Journalism Recent events such as the tsunami disaster (where blogs helped in covering
the enormous size of the story), the war in Iraq (where blogs help to present both opinions of all
parties involved), the Dan Rather s scandal, a CBS Evening News anchor who reported as authentic a
series of forged documents about George W. Bush (where blogs were highly instrumental in exposing
him) have all contributed to the growing popularity of citizen journalism. So, why is there a recent
growth in popularity of citizen journalism? Is it because of the scandals that has eroded the credibility
of traditional journalism or is out of touch with today s media landscape? And does any of it

Another incidence includes the fabrication and plagiarisms in numerous articles by Jayson Blair, a
Times reporter, who was exposed in 2003 after his article: After effects: The Missing; Family Waits,
Now Alone, for a Missing Soldier , in which he incorporated passages from an article that was
published earlier in The San Antonio Express.
Traditional journalism has also prided itself as being an objective source of media, but pure objectivity
is just a mirage. The limitation of human nature causes us to be biased, as we all have opinions which
we directly or indirectly express in our communication, Added to this the financial, time and area
space causes journalism to be subjective to a certain degree. But, another question arises, is
subjectivity, an expression of one s opinions, necessarily bad? After all opinions give meaning to facts.
One may argue that the presentation of opinions in the media would preclude people from making
their own judgments, but aren t peoply independent beings with a mind of their own?
However, from the standpoint of traditional journalism where the audience has a trusted relationship
with the media source or media person it might not be such good idea to be subjective mostly because
of the certain sense of loyalty of the audience member towards his/her particular news

citizens. Which can ranges from false arrest, severe beating, racial profiling, politics, shooting, fatal
choking and other form of harsh treatments.
Let s start from the beginning. Sixty one years ago the women known to be the Mother of the Civil

That is required excessive use of forces. This is not the only types of police misconduct. Police
brutality can take form in false arrest, malicious prosecution, excessive force, and failure to intervene.
False arrests take place when the police take a person into custody, without an arrest warrant and
without probable cause, to believe the person had committed a crime. The person can bring a claim
that police violated their Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable seizure. The officer s belief is
based on the information available at the time of arrest, even if it turns out to be wrong.
Malicious prosecution when a police officer begins a criminal proceeding without a reason. This
violation the Fourteen Amendment rights to liberty. In order to win this type of claim, the victim must

The Invention Of China s Inventions
On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each one
of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of the
leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people benefit
from today.
One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has become
a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a variety of fibrous
materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would take up to thirty days to
construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years.

By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a
complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of
machinery.
People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the
ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use
more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology and
different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to ancient
times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives.
Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was first
invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around the world.
Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was
discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was then
discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe.
China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one end of
a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the
metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today.
The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur,

The Importance Of The American Dream In America
The definition of the American Dream is that in America, you have the freedom and the ability to rise
in fame if one works hard enough for it. For years and years, many people from all over the world
came to America just because of the American Dream. These people sought for a better life in a land
where everyone s equal and where they can have an opportunity to become wealthy. Besides seeking
for a better life, these people were running away from their homes due to wars, oppressions, or in
general, regressions in their homeland. As to why these immigrants turned to America for help is
because America was the land of opportunity. America is the land of opportunity because it influenced
immigrants to travel to America in order to seek for a better life and a fresh start. This led to a more
culturally diverse society that can still be seen in America today. America offers a variety of
opportunities for people all around the world to start a fresh life in a new society. In the book A
Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America by Ronald Takaki, he talks about how Asians,
Africans, and Europeans viewed America as the land of opportunity. He talks about how these people
tried to achieve the American dream because their homeland is at war or regression. As quoted in his
book, Many sought sanctuary from intense conflicts in China caused by the British Opium Wars.

California is a hub for transport and agriculture. Last year, The Port of Long Beach unloaded an
estimated 3.8 million TEUS (Twenty foot equivalent unit) (Port of Long Beach). These units were

of sulfur, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The second significant point source for air pollution is wildfires. In 2017 alone, there were 7,117 fires
across the entire state of California which burned a total of 505,956 acres (CAL FIRE, 2018). Twenty
nine of these fires took place in Southern California in December. The Thomas Fire was the largest in
State history. It burned a total of 281,620 acres. The Thomas Fire burned for a total of forty days and
caused numerous environmental issues.
Wildfires are common in areas with hot and dry weather as well as dry brush. In the United States
alone, ninety percent of wildfires are started by unattended campfires, burning cigarettes, and arson
(National Park Service). Wildfires emit carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide into the
environment. The release of these chemicals into the environment can have a long term effect on the
environment. California s recent drought, dry country sides, and warmer winter months have led to a

DoD Directive
In further refining the role or limitations for a Chaplain, the Department of Defense provides
directives to bring clarity to more specific issues. The Chaplain is viewed as the subject matter expert
(SME) on religion. With this in mind, and his/her position as personal staff officer to the commander,
they are called on to advise commanders on issues pertaining to religion and the accommodation
thereof. Department of Defense Directive 1300.17 indicates specific guidance to the acceptance of
religious accommodations. Since the military places high value (DoD Directive 1300.7) on the right to
free exercise of religion, commands are encouraged to accommodate religious needs where
appropriate. While on the outset, this does not apply directly to the Chaplain, he/she is the SME on all
matters pertaining to religion. Therefore, this directive again narrows, limits, the scope of the Chaplain
to religious matters. Commanders are encouraged to utilize the expertise of the Chaplain when
determining when and how to accommodate religious practices. This fosters greater unit cohesion and
unit readiness as it pertains to spiritual fitness and resiliency (DoD Directive 1300.7).
Army Regulation
In the scope of understanding the role of a Chaplain, service level regulations contain the most
specific detail on limitations and refinement. Therefore, this study now turns to a review of

The Downfall of Capitalism
As the distinguished economist, John Maynard Keynes notes: Capitalism is the extraordinary belief
that the nastiest of men, for the nastiest of motives, will somehow work for the benefit of all. At the
core of the Robert Taylor homes is a functioning capitalist society. As in all capitalist societies, it is the
role of the government to defend the economic interests of the faction that controls the means of
production by suppressing anyone seen as a threat to its dominance. In the Robert Taylor homes, the
Black Kings were the state that defended the means of production by suppressing any threat to their
business through notion of hustling. Even though as a functioning capitalist society, the Robert Taylor
homes were community plagued by severe destitution. The community suffered from many illegal
activities in addition to the high rates of unemployment and welfare. Furthermore, the housing project
was completely ignored by the municipal government. In this lawless environment, there was no
independent police, and for many there was no steady income. The combination of these two elements
increased the power gang, thus they were the enforcers. The people of the community had to compete
amongst each other for resources. Those of the Robert Taylor community had to make the best use of
what they had, and this is known as survival. What many come to understand, as hustling and other
unethical activities, are known as survival to members of the Black Kings gang and the tenants

The knee joint consists of four ligaments, two intra capsular which are the ACL and the PCL and two
extra capsular ligaments including the MCL and LCL. The ACL is an extremely strong stabiliser
which prevents anterior displacement of the knee. The ACL is a ligament and therefore connects one
bone to another, the femur with the tibia. The ACLs origin is from the anterior intercondylar eminence
of the tibia (home,2017) and the fibres pass upwards, backward and laterally inserting into the lateral
condyle of the femur.
Characteristics of ACL Injuries
ACL injuries used to be seen as career ending injuries 50 years ago, however, throughout the years
with the advancement in technology aiding treatment and rehabilitation procedures. Yet they are still
sever and take months to recover. This is because of the precise location of the ligament within the
knee joint. Resulting in no blood clot formation within the joint as a consequence scar tissue will not
form and the tissue will just be filled with uncontrolled blood leading to swelling an pain within the
joint (ACL reconstruction Oxford university hospital, 2017) which is why it takes between 9 to 12
months for recovery. With an ACL injury, other injuries often follow, namely MCL injuries and
meniscal lesions which in time would likely lead to the patient contracting osteoarthritis due to it

Special Registration Report
Such violations of human rights have not only taken place in the international arena, but also at the
domestic level as well. After the events of 9/11, the US saw a sharp increase in discriminatory racial
profiling and restriction of civil liberties for its citizens (Welch, 2004, pp 5). An example of this can be
seen with the Special Registration Program issued by the Justice Department in 2002 that applied to
non immigrant male visitors from certain countries that were associated with terrorism. The program,
also known as the Domestic Call in Registration, has involved policies such as fingerprinting,

Through a number of laws aimed largely at deterrence after the 9/11 attacks, such as instituting severe
penalties for aircraft hijacking, the US government has helped protect American citizen s rights to life
and property. For example, in 1973 legislation was introduced that made boarding gate security
measures mandatory throughout America and as a result, US hijack attempts dropped from 31 to 3 and
3500 pounds of high explosives, 2000 guns and 23,000 knives and other lethal weapons were found
(Wilkinson, 2006, pp 128). Although such legislation was put in place before the War on Terror,
similar legislation has been passed post 2001 and so the findings can be extrapolated to suggest that
stricter security measures employed in the War on Terror have helped to protect civilians from further
attack and in turn protect their basic human rights such as the right to

The Themes Of Love In Ude Idea, By Michael Drayton
As one experiences this journey called life, one will encounter someone who will shake, shift and alter
one s world; this feeling is called love. Throughout written history there have been several stories and
tales about love, whether it is finding it, losing it or chasing it. Love can be overwhelming to the point
that one may feel it is best to part ways in order to preserve one s own sanity especially if one is
unsure of how the other party feels. The concept of love has stood the test of time and the 17th century
is no exception. Michael Drayton had a few of his works published during his time, Idea , sonnet LXI,
is one of his popular works. As on explores Michael Drayton, Idea , one will find that a man, who is in
love, trying to make a firm decision to walk away from love yet is still holding on to a spark of hope.
Letting go of love and walking away is never an easy task. In the 17th century being with a loved one
poses the same issues and concerns as we see in the 21st century, at times one cannot have or be with
the person one loves, therefore, the healthiest option for one to do is kiss and say goodbye. In the first
stanza Michael Drayton sets the tone of the first half of the sonnet and expresses his dilemma; Since
there s no help, come, let us kiss and part (Drayton). Drayton is conflicted and unable to find a
solution; therefore, the best option is to kiss, say goodbye and go their separate ways. One of the
rationales for this decision is that he and his

The Death Penalty Is Justified
Allison Shu 2/25/16 Period 2 Objective paper on the death penalty Capital punishment is legally
authorized killing as punishment for a crime. The death penalty questions the morality of killing a
person as justification for their crime. It also brings to question whether the death penalty actually
serves as a deterrent for crime, and that some of the people executed are found innocent afterwards.
The debates over the constitutionality of the death penalty and whether capital punishment should be
used for retribution are also added things to be considered. Debates over the legal, moral, ethical, and
economic ramifications of the death penalty are ongoing across the globe. Evidence has been found
that there have been executions as early as eighteenth century BCE. However, today, numerous
countries have already abolished the death penalty while there are currently 18 states in the United
States that have abolished capital punishment, starting with Michigan, in 1846. The number one thing
to contend with is the morality of capital punishment. Those for the death penalty argue that those who
commit heinous crimes deserve the death penalty, while the opposing side largest argument is that
capital punishment is a cruel and unusual punishment. Capital punishment can be considered moral
though, because people who believe in the punishment say that those that if you kill a person, then you
deserve to die yourself. Bruce Fein, a constitutional lawyer and general counsel to the

Essay On The Sectional Crisis
The Road to Secession How did the sectional crisis begin? What one event triggered this crisis? While
these are question commonly answered, it is up to interpretation of the conflicts between the North
and South in order to decide which events caused the secession. There is not simply one event or
conflict which resulted in the secession of the deep southern sates beginning in 1860 (Brands 2015,
333). As of February 1, 1860 seven southern states had seceded from the union due to the friction
between Northern and Southerners. While some may argue that the sectional crisis is a result of the
fight for power between the North and South; the sectional crisis can be attributed to three main
factors and their effects on the nation, differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One key difference between the North and South was the North s abundance of cheap labor. Between
1845 and 1855 around 3 million people immigrated to the US (304). This new influx of people
brought large quantities of low waged factory, mine and construction workers to the Northern states
just in time to aid in the industrial revolution. Contrary to the North, southern states still relied heavily
on slave labor as their economy was dependent on cash crops. Furthermore, slavery was not only an
economic institution but now a way of life for Southerners. Therefore, slavery was more widely
accepted and condoned as it was both a way of life and an economic institution. However, Northerners
did not experience this way of life or rely on slave labor. Due to this, Northerners we more eager to
expel slavery. Northerners discontentment with slavery created negative responses to the Compromise
of 1850 as opposed to the Southerners. One of the five federal laws in the Compromise of 1850, the
Fugitive Slave Act, disabled Northerners to remain impartial to the slavery conflict (315). The
Compromise strengthened the Fugitive Slave Act, forcing Northerners to return

Fiscal Policies In Canada
Fiscal policies as described by Evie Adomait are any and all budgetary matters that relate to the
government, also referred to as the Department of Finance in these specific cases (p146). As we all
know, our current Prime Minster is Liberal and so the government s fiscal policies will be focused
more on investing and subsidizing social services. Prime Minister Trudeau has expressed to Canada
and other global leaders that he has no intentions of balancing the budget and urges others to do the
same. The Canadian government is focusing heavily on increasing government spending and as a
result, we are seeing an accumulation of debt that continues to grow at an exponential rate. Before I
proceed, it is important to make clear that I myself am fiscally ... Show more content on

As it stands the government is spending far beyond its means and is running excessive deficits that
will have a huge impact on the economy for years to come. After a single year we have already
witnessed the large decline in value of the Canadian dollar. The government should not be expanding
their means through fiscal policies that promote such debt. This places a burden on the taxpayers of
the country and the economy as a whole. My argument stands from the fact that the government
receives its income from the personal income of its residents and corporations. Taxpayers elect a
government on the basis that they will represent the needs of the people and an important factor in this
election process includes the proposed tax rates of each political government. When a political
government sets the tax rate it is recorded in legislation and signifies that those funds should suffice.
When a government begins to overspend and suffer from a deficit they are forced to increase tax rates;
our current government is a

Consequences Of The Haitian Revolution
Circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution inevitable by 1791
Slavery changed society outlook in life, it also created many memories which would be rather
forgotten. Many countries were turned into colonies and were made victims of slavery. One country
that had one of the biggest impacts on the abolishment of slavery was Haiti. Many historians have
considered Haiti and their actions against slavery to be a great milestone in its abolition. The
Revolution was not know for it uniqueness but the most successful of the rebellions that took place in
history. This essay seeks to highlight the circumstances in society that made the Haitian revolution
inevitable by 1791 and its relevance in history.

In the European colonialism voodoo played a major role for the slaves. Though it was prohibited it
was an area of autonomous activity for the slaves. Voodoo acted as a medium for psychological
liberation and it created means to express themselves and reaffirm self existence (The Haitian
Revolution 1791). Voodoo enabled the slaves to break free mentally from the hands of their
oppressors, from the metal chains of slavery and the physical and psychological scaring it created on
the bodies and minds (The Haitian Revolution 1791). According to (The Haitian Revolution 1791) in
reference to voodoo and its role it the Haitian freedom it gave them a sense of human dignity and
enabled them to survive.
A catalyst in the Haiti Revolution was Dutty Boukman; he was a houngan and was a practitioner of
the Petwo Voodoo cult. At the evening of August 14th, 1791, he held a service at Bois Caiman. A
woman was possessed by an Ogoun or the Voodoo Warrior spirit, she sacrifice a black big and began
to speak in the voice of the spirit where she described who was to lead the maroons and slaves to

  • 2. The Meltdown Of Nuclear Families In The 1900s A nuclear family is a family composed of a married father and mother and their children. This type of family became increasingly popular following the industrial age in the 1900s. The nuclear family soon became the norm as people transferred from large kin groups to smaller independent families (Pulsipher, 2015). This posed a problem in the beginning because close relatives no longer played a role in raising children and no longer had anyone to look after them in old age as they did when kin groups were common. However, as time went on, nuclear families faced challenges and soon began to fallout as a result of changes in couples. The meltdown of nuclear families are largely impart by couples not getting married or by couples getting divorced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for a family to be considered nuclear, the parents must be married and have children However, the number of unmarried couples in the United States nearly doubled in the 1900s as it grew more common for people to not further their relationships. This caused the number of homes consisting of nuclear families to reach their lowest level falling from 45% of all households in 1960 to just 25.6% last year (Feder, 2001). Not only did it grow common for couples to not get married, divorce grew common. This influenced the number of children who, instead of being a part of a nuclear family, were a part of a single parent family. In fact, due to divorce, 43% of American children spent at least part of their childhood in a single parent family in 1996 (Feder, 2001). Don Feder, author on human events, explains that these shifts in attitude towards marriage and nuclear families has been caused by changes in cultural influences such as media. In the early 1900s, marriage and family were regarded as an integral part of existence, but as time went on the importance of nuclear families ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Glenn Miller s In The Mood Beethoven s Opus 131, 1st movement; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlFYC1U5viw The first movement of Beethoven s Opus 131 begins with the first violin playing a dulcet melody in the key of C# minor with an adagio tempo. A second violin player soon joins in playing the same melody, but with a slightly lower pitch, in the style of a round. The lower voices continue to follow this pattern until the cello has joined in to create a flowing rhythm. This feeling a motion is created through the use of slurs, crescendos, and decrescendos. While this is going on the bass is playing the root of the chords and the drum set is following a swing beat. When listening to this piece you can hear the joy behind the notes. This is because of the types of notes used and the tempo. When looking at the written sheet music the amount of eighth notes is very noticeable. The consistency of these notes does not add to the drama of the piece. It is the crescendos and decrescendos that does that. This piece calls for extreme changes in the dynamics, which gives a finale feel. All of these elements combine to create a piece that is not only joyful, but dramatic and mysterious. The war was caused when Queensland, largely the east part of Australia, seceded from the newly declared Republic Australia. This created a feeling of superiority from Queensland to the western counterparts. After western australians were elected into office, this led to the succession. Although the war was fought in superiority, aboriginal equality was a vital part of the war. Australia used the apartheid system for years before General Rainford declared the Aboriginal Edict during the war. This made Rainford highly unpopular in the east. During the war, Rainford stepped forward, asking to create a truce. The Queensland officials refused to go to Perth, the new capital, for the convention, which led to Rainford traveling to Brisbane. Once reaching Brisbane, the Queensland officials refused to sit at a table with the aboriginals until it was promised that no body parts would touch the table. The officials continued to treat the aboriginals with disrespect, even going as far to call the aboriginals savages, which angered Rainford. Before leaving, he called the officials fat cats and stormed out. On August seventh, the Queensland army of four thousand bombed the republican of one thousand four hundred at Fort Lasseter. At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim to maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum Pareto function properly (Francis M. Bator, 1958) . In other words, the market reduces the utility and waste resources. • 7. Habitus By Bourdieu The article Bourdieu and Habitus was not easy to read, but I found it enlightening as it helped to reinforce my understanding of Bourdieu s concept of habitus by comparing and relating different roles and norms of society. The term habitus derives from the Latin verb hebre meaning to have or to hold (Swartz, 2002, p. 615), the concept grows out of Bourdieu s attempt to address the question, how the human action follow regular pattern without being the product to some external structure, such as cultural norms? The concept of habitus invites one to think of human practices as regulated by transposable dispositions rather than cultural norms or by conscious attentions. The term dispositions is key for Bourdieu, for it suggests a way of thinking about habit that is clearly different and more active from the more popular idea of absolute repetition or routine. ... When the radiation resistance of the antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas also have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size. (4.6) A second parameter of antennas is the Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space. Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H plane pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. This issue arises especially when students register and enroll in classes, only to find out that they re waitlisted. So comes the long wait for the student who waits until his or her waitlist is lifted. During this time, it is easy for miscommunication and confusion to arise for both the student and professor, and in the midst of this chaotic scene are waitlisted discussion sections that the student may not know about. Moreover, using surveys will help faculty members to realize other students concerns with Cal Student Central. What is also crucial is noting the pros and cons of fixing this enrollment issue. In his speech, George Saunders focuses on some moments in his life, but also bigger themes in life and work. Questions like gay marriage, economic policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values, preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is that no matter what position you choose, someone s rights are violated. Throughout the film, Ophelia is constantly being shown separate from everyone else, which hints at her impending insanity in the hands of Hamlet. Close to the end, Zeffirelli shows Ophelia as an unstable girl driven mad by Hamlet s cruel tactics and her father s murder. When Gertrude sees Ophelia through the window, she sees how truly mad she has become. Dressed in dirty rags and speaking nonsense, her innocence seems to be lost when she acts in a sexual manner towards one of the guards by grabbing his belt. As Ophelia sings during the mad scene, Gertrude is very clearly frightened by what she sees. The camera close ups also separate Ophelia from everyone else by showing the singular response of everyone to her madness. Her loneliness and irrational behaviours causes the audience to empathize with Ophelia. The history behind this tells how Texas was torn away from Mexico, and became part of the United States. The Chaplain is viewed as the subject matter expert (SME) on religion. With this in mind, and his/her position as personal staff officer to the commander, they are called on to advise commanders on issues pertaining to religion and the accommodation thereof. Department of Defense Directive 1300.17 indicates specific guidance to the acceptance of religious accommodations. Since the military places high value (DoD Directive 1300.7) on the right to free exercise of religion, commands are encouraged to accommodate religious needs where appropriate. The Themes Of Love In Ude Idea, By Michael Drayton As one experiences this journey called life, one will encounter someone who will shake, shift and alter one s world; this feeling is called love. Love can be overwhelming to the point that one may feel it is best to part ways in order to preserve one s own sanity especially if one is unsure of how the other party feels. The debates over the constitutionality of the death penalty and whether capital punishment should be used for retribution are also added things to be considered.
