Lina Is A Dynamic Character Essay
After reading The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, I have learned that Lina is a dynamic character.
At the beginning of the book, Lina is selfish eventually, Lina becomes responsible and Lucky. These
character traits were observed through Lina s actions, dialogue, relationships, choices, and problems.
The City of Ember connects to my life because when I was young I was also selfish. But then over
time, I became more responsible and I am much luckier. According to the first few chapters in The
City of Ember Lina is very Selfish in the beginning of the book but through Lina actions, chooses she
became selfish because. She was selfish she and her friends didn t get everything they wanted these
are three reasons that Lina was selfish. Lina brought poppy along the journey to the way out of Ember.
This is selfish because she could have brought Mrs.murdo how took Lina and poppy in when her

Lina and poppy are sisters this as shows Lina is responsible because she has to take care of poppy and

Lina brought poppy out of Ember this shows that Lina is responsible because she brought poppy
which means she didn t want poppy to be left. So to prove this in the text it states I ve brought poppy

Final Garden Research Paper
Gardens, the final frontier. When I was little my mom and I would rototill our yard and dig out a
couple trenches. After we dug out the trenches my mom and I would spend a couple of hours walking
around the garden section of Lowes, we would find several veggie plants that we would then take
home for the home made garden. Her and I would sit outside for hours as she taught me how to plant
the veggies and take care of the roots and put them in the dirt the right way. She would have me take
care the plants in the garden that I wanted to plant and she would teach me the proper way to do it.
She taught me the responsibility of planting a garden and then taking care of it, she taught me that you
can not give up on something just because it is too hard or too much work. See, Gardens can be used
for much more than just farming and gaining crops, these gardens can be used to teach children, help

the garden lowers stress levels and can help with depression. The way that the garden helps reduce
stress is because you are working on something and taking your mind off of whatever it was that was
causing you the stress. the depression works in a similar fashion. while gardening you forget about

Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII 2
Introduction
In the year 1913, Kandinsky created the composition VII, which became one the most talked about
painting of the century. A very interesting fact about Kandinsky is his devotion to colors. His painting
s meaning will be revealed if you know the color symbolism. Through the years 1918 to 1921,
Kandinsky dedicated his time to learn more about form and color analyses.
Historical position:
A year before the World War II began, that is, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually the color black will be used to draw the outlines of the subject or an object but Kandinsky
uses the color to show the depth of an emotion. Kandinsky is more of a composer than an artist,
simply because it composes his painting rather than painting them. No color has its own meaning.
When colors are mixed together, they create a meaning together. Kandinsky lets the energy of one
color to flow from one to another.
For instance, the color blue next to green creates an entirely different feeling inside a person rather
than when placed next to red. It is a composition of colors and textures on a canvas. Kandinsky s
paintings have given a new meaning to music to the deaf viewers. For a person, who has never heard
of music, Kandinsky s painting will be a life changing experience.
Kandinsky did almost 30 preparatory drawings but it is so stunning to learn that after all the
preparatory exercises, he executed the painting in less than four days. The preparatory of this painting
includes fifteen other variants. And the variants include drawings, water colors, wood cuts, and oil
paintings on the related themes. It is said
Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII 4 that, Kandinsky s composition VII is a combination of the
resurrection of the Christ, The last judgement, and The Garden of Love in an operatic outburst of pure
painting.
According to Kandinsky music is an ultimate teacher ... a concept that imposed on his first seven of

Health Between Urinary Bpa Levels And Increased Body Mass
2.3 Adverse effects
2.3.1 Obesity
Several studies indicate that there is an association between urinary BPA levels and increased body
mass in children and adolescents. In a cross sectional analysis , a nationally representative subsample
of 2838 participants aged from 6 to 19 year old were randomly selected, and their urinary BPA
concentration and body mass index (BMI) were measured. They found that the urinary BPA
concentration were significantly associated with obesity in participants, while obesity was not
associated with exposed to other environmental phenols in other commonly used consumer products,
such as soaps and sunscreens (Trasande et al. 2012). Another cross sectional study conducted in China
was also with the aim to investigate the association between BPA exposure and BMI. Multiple linear
regression analyses showed that urine BPA concentrations were significantly correlated with
increasing BMI in school children (Wang et al. 2012a). In addition, there is also epidemiological
evidence that an increased urine BPA concentration is associated with obesity in adults. Wang et al.
(2012b) conducted another cross sectional study based on a sample of 3390 Chinese adults with age
40 years or older. They found there is a positive correlation between urinary BPA concentration and
generalized obesity as well as abdominal obesity in adults.

In animal experiments, there is evidence that the offsprings of pregnant mice treated with BPA

Air Driven Engine Project Report
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
At first glance the idea of running an engine on air seems to be too good to be true. Actually, if we can
make use of air as an aid for running an engine it is a fantastic idea. As we all know, air is all around
us, it never runs out, it is non polluting and it is free.
An Air Driven Engine makes use of Compressed Air Technology for its operation. Compressed Air
Technology is now widely preferred for research by different industries for developing different drives
for different purposes. The Compressed Air Technology is quite simple. If we compress normal air
into a cylinder the air would hold some energy within it. This energy can be utilized for useful
purposes. When this compressed air expands, the energy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fig. 2.1 working of two stroke engine
There are no traditional valves in a two stroke engine. In a two stroke the engines fires once every
revolution. This makes the engine highly efficient and lightweight compared to four stroke systems.
Rather than entering through valves, the fuel/air mixture enters through an intake port and exhaust
exits out of an exhaust port. In place of traditional valves the two stroke engine uses the piston s
position to force out exhaust or suck in fuel mixture.
Reeds are vital to a two stroke system. The reeds are placed between the intake manifold and the
carburetor, open and close to allow the fuel / air mixture to enter the case of the engine and trap it, and
ensure the proper exchange of gasses in the engine. This procedure might sound complex, but it is, in
fact, extremely effective and easy to understand.
The whole cycle can be explained as follows:
1) As the piston moves from bottom dead center to top dead center it creates a vaccum to draw the fuel
/ air mixture through the carburetor and past the reed valve assembly.
2) The piston moves down from top dead center to bottom dead center. The reed closes, causing the
pressure to build in the cylinder. The movement of the piston uncovers the intake port and pressurized
the fuel / air mixture.
3) The piston now moves up from bottom dead center to top dead center, effectively ending a cycle
and starting another. The spark plug

Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically...
Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference to
the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression.
Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production within
this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst limited to
reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this framework where
values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille argues, restricts our
liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille sees this as a principle of
powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses
the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do this because he cannot justify it in
utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this interest. The father of the boy is partly
responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and destroy through things he provides for him: a
home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as
there is something fundamental within the character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how
in society, the father is like production, which provides us with the basic components of living but not
what we really need and how this excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. Rules and

The Brown versus Board of Education Case
Does segregation of children in public schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical
facilities and other tangible factors may be equal, deprive the children of the minority group of equal
educational opportunities? We believe that it does. quote from the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education
U.S. Supreme Court decision. To this day, Brown Versus the Board of Education is known as one of
the most significant Supreme Court rulings of the 20th century. Brown versus the Board of Education
stated that racial segregation of students disrupted parts of the 14 amendment. The outcome of this
case would end up causing a full racial revolution across the United States of America, (U.S.) and a
new way of schooling and acceptance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with this, the Brown versus Board of Education ruling gave hope to blacks and colored people
throughout Africa and Asia that in the U.S. regardless of your skin color, prosperity and equality are
possible. The end of equal but separate facilities is the most important outcome from the Brown versus
Board of Education ruling. During the late 1800 s many states declared that blacks and whites could
not use the same restrooms, ride the same buses, or attend the same schools. Even though this was a
state law, many people disagreed with this, and thought that the law was insane. Basically this law
permitted segregation amongst race. The law stated that the segregation amongst people was allowed
as long as the facilities, homes, or whatever was separated was equal. In most scenarios this was not
the case. Due to the pure outrage of this law the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) was created in 1909. This organization s primary goals are to safeguard and secure
social, educational, political, and economic equality amongst all people. Also they attempt to destroy
racial disgust and discrimination. For years before the Brown versus Board of education case came
about, the NAACP was trying to persuade Congress on other laws to help protect blacks from
lynchings and other racist actions. The NAACP is linked to the Brown versus Board of Education case
in that they helped overturn the separate but equal law. At the time

Psychological Idealism In Editha
William Dean Howells Editha tells the story of a young girl and her plan of manipulating her fiancé to
go off to war. Howells uses psychological realism during the readers initial encounter with Editha, her
interactions with George, and ultimately how she reacts to his death to express how romantic idealism
can lead to unethical ideals. Editha s romantic views of war leads to a tragic outcome and readers are
taught the importance of always loving someone for they are. Psychological realism is evident almost
immediately in the story. She had already decided that she could not let him stay... (Howells 43),
Editha begins making decisions in her mind without consultation from those that it affects. As the
story continues, readers learn that due to George s upbringing, he is anti war. However, Editha
believes that war is glorious and that George enlisting would be a symbol of his love to her, ...if he
could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero... (Howells 44). The character contest
comes into play when readers discover that George is willing to do whatever it takes to please Editha,
and she knows this too. It isn t a matter of who loves who more but, a matter of which individual is
willing to sacrifice their own ethical beliefs to save the relationship. As Editha has many encounters
with George, it is most clear to the reader that George is the realist in the relationship, and Editha is
indeed the romanticist. George is always seeing the bigger picture and

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
The Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Young People Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder Studies estimate that over one in four children will experience trauma before the age of
sixteen, and many of these youth will go on to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of
their trauma (Silverman, Oritz, Viswesvaran, Burns, Kulko, Putnam, Amaya Jackson, 2008). Children
and adolescents with PTSD can benefit from a mixture of the Cognitive and Behavioral models,
presented in the form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Specifically, Trauma Focused

The emergence of research dedicated to TF CBT and its focus removes a significant amount of
ambiguity from the prescription of treatment. Due to the overwhelming positive response in research,
clinicians now can confidently recommend TF CBT and prevent further suffering within patients.
Also, completing additional research in this area could lead to even more efficient and helpful
methods of treatment. For young people who experienced trauma, this interactive treatment method
can bring about progressive changes in their behavior and their thoughts, which can help to eradicate
PTSD over the course of treatment as well as the time that follows it. References

Lab Experiment On The Effect Of Temperature On Enzymes
Title: Effects of Temperature on Enzymes
Problem/Purpose: How does temperature affect the rate of enzyme activity on its substrate?
Hypothesis: If the temperature increases, then rate of the chemical reaction will increase as well, and
if the temperature decreases, then the rate of reaction will also decrease.
Data:
There were three test tubes in which the experiment was held. A relatively equal sized portion of raw
potato (this contained the enzyme [a biological catalyst] hydrogen peroxidase) was placed in each
tube. Then, enough water to cover the potato was added. Proceeding this, each of the test tubes were
assigned a temperature; cold, room temperature or warm (this was written on the tag so that they were
not confused). The test tube destinated cold was placed in a ice bath for five minutes. At the same
time, the hot test tube was placed in a hot water bath for five minutes. Meanwhile, the room
temperature test tube sat at room temperature for five minutes. When the five minutes were over, the
test tubes were returned to the rack (so that they were able to be observed). Then, the test tubes were
allowed to sit at room temperature for five more minutes. Once that period of time was over, 2 ml of
hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) was added to each tube.
Once this step was completed, a timer was started and observations were made. Using the timer, how
long cellular respiration (this was noted by the appearance of gas in the tube) took to start was noted.

European Imperialism Research Paper

9 October 2014 The history of Morocco relevant to European colonialism begins with the Arab
conquest of North Africa in the late seventh century. When the Arabs arrived, they brought with them
the religion of Islam and converted the people they found there. Those people were the Berbers, who
are indigenous to the region. Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the
Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. Later,
less than a century after this conquest, the Berbers revolted and regrouped into smaller, self governed
states. Islam in Morocco took different forms after that, with each state bending it to its own needs.
After a period of chaos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous
public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention
(Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built
26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize
agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a
prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter
Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in
the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the
fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and
the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different
colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and
hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco
became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being
imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as
well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in
order to keep control over the region. For example, the, Berber Dahir legislation of 1930 that had
established different legal systems for the two Moroccan ethnic groups, Imazighen (Berbers) and
Arabs a policy resented by both groups

Argument Against Circuit Training
WHAT IS CIRCUIT TRAINING?
Circuit training is a method in which a person will perform several different lifts in rapid succession,
generally performed on numerous machines or simply with body weight exercises such as push ups
and pull ups. This form of training is ideal for developing muscular endurance, improving
cardiovascular health, and since it is a form of high intensity training, it has incredible implications on
fat loss as well. Just about anyone can benefit from circuit training, but as always, I suggest consulting
with your medical professional prior to beginning any high intensity training regimen. With that being

Most resistance bands are crafted out of surgical grade tubing, which is highly elastic and very strong,
but in the off chance that one happens to snap, being able to replace it free of charge is awesome.

We Are Seven
This poem, we are seven, tells the story of a man talking to a young girl about her family and how
many siblings she has. Even though two of her siblings are dead, and only four are alive, she insists
that she and her brothers and sisters are seven in total. The man, however, thinks that they are only
five. He thinks that the dead siblings don t count and that she should only count the family members
that are physically there. Throughout the writing and the dialogue in this poem, we can clearly
understand that the little girl and the man think about death entirely differently. The girl believes that
when people die, they are still apart of the family and life that they once lived and then left behind.
She thinks that although her siblings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these 2 specific stanzas I think there is a lot of interesting imagery that really shines through and it
also shows the extreme difference in the way the girl thinks about death and the way the man thinks
about death. The girl speaks of her siblings as if they are still with her. The little girl says that she
dwells near them with my mother at their cottage. She is explaining her sibling s state in a more matter
of fact language. That she does this and that she is with them. Also in this part of the poem, the little
girl describes heir burial with the word dwell which suggests sleeping rather than actually being dead.
The little girl also uses imagery to explain the reality of her two deceased siblings. She tells the man,
their graves are green. This detail of color imagery makes it more real to the girl. By sharing this detail
it shows that these graves mean something to her, they are not just where her siblings lie dead but
where they are currently residing. She also mentions to the man the activities she does when she is
with them: knitting, sewing, eating and playing. By saying that she does these activities with them, it
really shows how she thinks of her siblings continuing to be with

Solibo Magnificent Essay
The storyteller who has so long used his position to speak to the experiences of his audience utters his
last words, a declaration of his own pain and suffering at the unavoidable and rapid obsolescence of
his craft, and no one hears him. The writer endeavors to tell his story, to write his elegy, and finds his
efforts to be utterly lacking in comparison to the alternative, now presumably dead, medium of the
spoken word. Yet, the irony of it is that in attempting to make this case for the supremacy of the oral
tradition of storytelling, in his novel Solibo Magnificent, Patrick Chamoiseau has created a work of
literature that is at once intensely emotional, playfully satirical and almost heartbreaking in its
capacity to empathize with the experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

memories of those who experienced Solibo directly are lost to time. In fact, it is his memories of
Solibo to which Chamoiseau returns as he struggles with the transition: I d spend weeks recalling what
the Master said, searching out his tone, the look in his eyes, the moments when his amused expression
belied the gravity of his sentences and those times when the fear that danced in his eyes only fed the
flowers of laughter (158). Again, the frustration of knowing exactly what it is he wants to express
while being entirely unable to do so comes through clearly in Chamoiseau s words somewhat
ironically, as he has found a way to express something deeper than just the surface meaning of his
words while wringing his hands over being unable to do just

Comparing The Bracelet And All Summer In A Day
Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are. Anonymous. This connects to
the short stories The Bracelet and All Summer in a Day because they are both about being different
and judged. The Bracelet by, Yoshiko Uchida, is about a girl, Ruri, and her Japanese family getting
sent to a concentration camp. This took place during WWII when the Japanese has just bombed Pearl
Harbor. Because of this, many Japanese were being sent to concentration camps because the US
government thought that all Japanese were spies. But actually, most of the Japanese were loyal to the
US. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, is about a girl named Margot, who lived on Venus with
her family and others. But all the other kids there came when they were two years old. Margot came
when she was four years old. So, all the kids but Margot don t know what the sun looks like because,
on Venus, it would rain every day nonstop. But, every 7 years, the sun would come out and it would
only be out for exactly 1 hour. Once that one hour is up, then the pouring rain would start again. In the
beginning of the story, the rain started to slow down, and then the kids started to not believe Margot
that the sun would come out. So they locked her in the closet and continued to look out the window.
Then, the sun came out and the kids had a blast outside but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example The Bracelet is, Mama, is it time to go? I hadn t planned on crying, but the tears came
suddenly. The statement means, that Ruri is upset she has to go to the concentration camp. And is
trying to hold back the tears. It is tearing her family apart and she s upset about it. This is all because
she and her family are Japanese. Similarly, in All Summer in a Day an example in the text is, Margot
stood apart from them. These children who could never remember a time where it wasn t raining, rain,

Mass Media During the Last Century
Mass media has changed dramatically over the course of the last century. There have been three major
changes. Each of these changes has effected American culture. The changes have taken place because
of media convergence. These are the major changes.
The first significant development in mass media was the paper stage (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2016,
). During this phase, stories or messages were sent out written, or typed on paper. That was the way
that they reached the people. The second stage of mass media was the Electronic Era. During this era,
messages could meet their match in an instant. People did not have to wait for it to be delivered over
time. The third development of mass media is the digital era. The digital era includes images and
sounds converted into an electronic signal (Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2016, ). Messages are being
delivered faster than ever before. These are the three significant developments in the last century.
These Eras all greatly affected American culture. During the paper Era, people lived on farms
(Campbell, Martin, Fabos, 2016, ). Once stories such as books, and newspapers were developed, they
could reach a lot of people. The written word did not change according to who told it. It made sure
that everybody got the same information. The electronic Era also had a significant influence on
culture. The

Marketing Through Social Media Essay examples
Widely adopted by the general public then by companies, the Internet fast imposed itself to become
the archetypal media in terms of communication and search for information in all the domains today,

With the development of the Web 2.0 which made Internet participative, the Internet users are now
capable of expressing themselves, interacting, and giving their opinion onto everything (products,
services, brands, companies, cultural property) and on everybody, via multiple platforms on Internet.

Loss Of Innocence In Macbeth
My image shows the flag of Scotland (setting), although I used different colors to represent my
character, Macbeth. In Macbeth, the theme loss of innocence is relevant. The cross in the middle is
white, seeing that the color represents Macbeth s innocence at the beginning of the play. At first,
Macbeth is a respected Thane, a devoted husband and a loyal subject to King Duncan, in which the
King calls him A valiant cousin and worthy gentleman, in act 1 scene 2. The first of the witches
prophecies then bring out his ambitious nature, but he struggles with the idea of killing the King.
Later, Macbeth proves his innocence when he tells Lady Macbeth that they will proceed no further in
the business of murdering King Duncan: We will proceed no further in this business. ... Show more

which you believe to be the ornament of life, and yet live like a coward in your own self esteem? To
this question, Macbeth loses his innocence and states that he is convinced to follow through with the
murdering of King Duncan, I m convinced, and I commit every part of my body to this terrible event.
This is where the color red comes in, which represents blood and guilt. Macbeth s evil deed of killing
Duncan causes him to suffer from fear and guilt, which leads to even more crimes. Although he is
moved with fear in the beginning, he has a loss of innocence; he murders not only King Duncan but

Examples Of Racism In Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans
How does gerry overcome his own racism throughout the film Remember the Titans directed by Boaz
Yakin?
My essay is about the issue of racism, how it is still alive today and that it can be overcome.
Racism is a far reaching issue in almost all countries around the world. It can be found in wealthy
societies, poor societies, sports, politics,in friendship groups, in the workplace, schools in fact every
where. Even though we have had civil wars, world wars and acts of terrorism through history and
today, racism is very much alive. All though this is all sad it can be overcome and in Rember the
Titans it is.
In the beginning of the movie our character Gerry Bertier is a successful footballer and captain for his
team The Titans from TC Williams high school.
Gerry is a white middle class student who is moving through the end of boy hood in t manhood. He
feels he has a lot of responsibilities. Gerry is openly able to talk about his feelings for black people
and coloured people right from the beginning but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stroop Effect Analysis
Attention is something that is extremely important to always have. In chapter three, the author stated
attention can be defined as a concentration of mental activity that allows you to take in a limited
portion of the vast stream of information available from both your sensory world and memory
(Shomstein, Styles, Weierich Barrett, p.79). In the Stroop Effect I can see that a person need to have a
lot of concentration in able to do it the right way. When doing the first activity it took me about two
minutes to be able to name the ink colors of the words five time through. In the next activity it took
me about five minutes to be able to name the colors in the rectangular patches in part B five times
through. It was harder than I expected

Tap Water Contains A Wide Variety Of Organic And Inorganic
Tap water contains a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, most of which are innocuous.
However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and
lead, are more problematic. Water leaving a drinking water purification plant will ordinarily contain
negligible levels of lead and other harmful metals. These metals enter the water during distribution,
through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead
can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. Although some corrosion of plumbing is inevitable, the
severity of leaching depends on the material of the pipes, the corrosivity and temperature of water and
the amount of time water is stagnant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these, the Flint Michigan water crises was the most publicized, as it was exposed through media
attention after delayed action from the EPA and state government, and only after widespread elevation
in blood lead levels (EBLL) of residents had induced long term and even permanent health
consequences (Romain, 2016).
As a result of increased public concern regarding water quality following the Flint Michigan water
crisis, Chicago Public Schools began a water testing program to analyze lead levels in drinking water.
Of 527 schools in the CPS system, 327 CPS campuses were tested by Chicago Public School s Water
Testing Program in spring of 2016. Analysis of water in these schools, conducted by the EPA, revealed
that of the 6,167 water fixtures tested on these campuses, 184 fixtures from 113 schools returned with
levels above the lead action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In total, 34.56% of the initially tested
campuses had at least one fixture that exceeded EPA action levels (Chicago Public Schools, 20161).
The CPS school selected for testing in this research project was not tested in the initial round of
testing in spring of 2016. However, the selected school was tested the following school year, in
October of 2017. Results from the CPS testing indicated that none of the school s fixtures exceeded
15ppb, however, lead levels below EPA action level were found, ranging from 2.1ppb to 11ppb. Of the

The Perfect Storm And Submerged City
Imagine living your life on a regular day for you and BOOM! Your life is now suddenly completely
changed, everything you thought was normal or part of you has changed. This is what natural disasters
tend to make happen in your life, they affect us in many ways. In this essay i will discuss the various
elements each author uses to express the causes and effects of disasters. The author Jacqueline Adam
clearly expresses the causes and effects of disasters through the use of text structure, choice of
vocabulary and use of data and details.
Both text selections: The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and Submerged City express the cause
and effects of disasters through text structure. Text structure refers to how the information within a ...

One similarity between the stories the perfect storm and submerged city is both stories use some facts
in which are shown to be terrifying, by knowing this you can clearly see how horrifying being in an
natural disaster can be. In the perfect storm it states they had ship reports of thirty meter seas. That s
ninety feet. I would imagine truthfully, in retrospect that if the whole us swordfish fleet had been
caught in the center of that thing, everybody would ve gone down. We only saw, i don t know, maybe
fifty waves, max . In submerged city it states howling winds rush between new york city s skyscrapers
shattering windows and uprooting trees. A 7.6 meter (25 foot) wall of water sweepes over Lower
Manhattan, submerging the financial district and popular neighborhoods like chinatown and little italy.
Subways filled with seawater.millions of new yorkers who evacuated the danger zone can t return to
their devastated homes . Based on these details and information i can infer how serious these issues
are, just by describing the situations personally gave me chills, i mean no one will ever want to be in a
situation like that and in both texts they strongly show this. One difference between the stories the
perfect storm and submerged city in use of data and details is that in the perfect storm te details or

Basketball Informative Speech
Basketball is among the most popular and fastest growing sports in the world; according to the
International Basketball Federation, over 450 million people play basketball across the globe
(Azcentral.com). Basketball has been around since 1891 and is inspiring children, adults and teenagers
all over the world including me. It started off with just a ball and a hoop with the goal to throw the ball
into the hoop. Whoever makes the most baskets wins. Simple, isn t it? Maybe like Tag? Well you
thought wrong basketball has its complications that even some professionals might not agree with or
just simply not understand. If you haven t played basketball it is essential that you give it a try.

Basketball included features that are shocking compared to today s game of basketball. Though it may
be hard to grasp, basketball started off with two nailed up peach baskets (NBAHoopsOnline). After
the first shot was made by William R. Chase the ball had to be removed from the basket by a person
on a ladder. That all changed in 1906 when the peach baskets were transformed to the hoops we see
today. It didn t take a genius to create hoops that were open at the bottom.Shockingly basketball was
first played with a soccer ball before being change to an actual basketball sponsored by Spalding in
1929. Kareem Abdul Jabbar apparently found it quite easy to make a lot of baskets because Kareem
Abdul Jabbar holds the record for most points scored in his 20 year career at 38,387 points.
(FactMonster) If you are new to basketball then you probably don t know that the first game ever
played was for 30 minutes and nowadays its 48 minutes. If you ever peeked at a score of an NBA
basketball game you ll see that it is always close to about 90 and 100 points, but can you believe that
the score of the first game was 1 0. It was the first game they all were beginners and its amazing that

Persuasive Essay On Mental Health
It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock
fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to
2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford
(Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could
be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also
known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against
their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing
a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide
equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent
situations.
Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking
gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly
overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person,
working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back
by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money,
and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment
laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start
their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and
proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By
eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and
getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless
people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ).
Involuntary commitment of the patient would allow a bed in a mental health facility, routine care, and
a healthy environment

The Integration Of The European Process Of Integration
The next chapter represents an attempt to develop new understandings of the problems related to the
European process of integration. More specifically, the aim of this section is to outline the possible
mechanisms that, in being conducive of socialization, can push member states to work together and to
think in terms of common problems and common concerns .
It has been chosen to accomplish this task by dividing the chapter into three main parts. The first one
will present the possibility to identify the launch of non binding elements as valid strategies aimed at
driving the behavior of actors. Particularly, their ability to be perceived politically, socially and
morally binding will be discussed.
The second part will be focusing on the analysis of the European Open Method of Coordination that,
according to this research, represents a valid laboratory where mechanisms of social influence and
microprocesses of socialization can be observed. In addition, its application within the institutional
framework of the EU is considered to be a good illustration of possible solutions able to renovate and
possibly reinvent the European Union of tomorrow. In conclusion, the third part of the chapter has to
be conceived as an attempt to go a step further the simple observation of existent mechanisms
interacting between each other. In fact, it consists in the evaluation of the extent in which the behavior
of actors has been altered since the advance of soft EU stimuli. More

General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
In reality, some people stand out, some people do not. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone is
wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies. Not all
of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a secluded area.
General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is an excellent example. He is a
dynamic and complex antagonist that dabbles in more than an unusual game. Mr. Zaroff, the agile and
experienced hunter, is cunning, well educated yet inhumane and irrational. General Zaroff is brutal
and inhumane mainly due to his abnormal version of hunting. For him, it is less like hunting and more
like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you speak of is murder! (Page 6) as
claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So, General Zaroff kills humans for sport and
entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with no discrimination and regardless of their race;
...I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp ships lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels...

Robin Morgan s Sisterhood Is Powerful
In 1970, Robin Morgan edited, compiled, and introduced the first anthology of feminist writings
entitled Sisterhood is Powerful that emerged as a momentous work of the second wave feminist
movement as well as exposing a deeper understanding of radical feminism outside the limited scope of
urban based women s liberation groups. From her introduction, she states that The book you hold in
your hands is a tool for the future a future also in your hands. This quote allows the audience to
unconsciously recognize the power and knowledge that the anthology possesses. The book centralizes
around issues such as the blatant sexism faced in the workplace, the need for radical feminism and the

In addition, Sisterhood is Powerful contains historical documents related to the Women s Liberation
movement, and it also provides contact information for feminist organizations. Sisterhood is Powerful
is the best way to familiarize oneself with the history of the modern day women s movement, their
support of other women and their recognition of female qualities that are unique to women s nature.
Under the circumstance of social equity, Robin Morgan grew up towards becoming a feminist activist
who worked in the civil rights, antiwar and feminist movements in the 1950s through 1970s. Robin
established the first American feminist grant giving organization, The Sisterhood Is Powerful Fund,
with the royalties from Sisterhood Is Powerful (Ceballos).
As stated previously, The Sisterhood is Powerful was the Landmark for the Second Wave Feminism
which occurred during the 1960s and 1970s. As America saw a renaissance of feminist activity,
including the women s liberation movement and other mainstream feminist groups, it had to evolve
with the recognition of equity among genders. This movement continued from the first wave which
was usually thought of as being from 1848 1920 when women won the

After we dug out the trenches my mom and I would spend a couple of hours walking around the garden section of Lowes, we would find several veggie plants that we would then take home for the home made garden. Her and I would sit outside for hours as she taught me how to plant the veggies and take care of the roots and put them in the dirt the right way. She would have me take care the plants in the garden that I wanted to plant and she would teach me the proper way to do it. She taught me the responsibility of planting a garden and then taking care of it, she taught me that you can not give up on something just because it is too hard or too much work. Wassily Kandinsky – Composition Vii Essay Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII 1 Renegade of the Early Twentieth Century: Wassily Kandinsky: Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII Diana Prakash Understanding art Professor Judith Gibson Vick Sunday, June 26, 2011 Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII 2 Introduction In the year 1913, Kandinsky created the composition VII, which became one the most talked about painting of the century. A very interesting fact about Kandinsky is his devotion to colors. His painting s meaning will be revealed if you know the color symbolism. Through the years 1918 to 1921, Kandinsky dedicated his time to learn more about form and color analyses. Historical position: A year before the World War II began, that is, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Usually the color black will be used to draw the outlines of the subject or an object but Kandinsky uses the color to show the depth of an emotion. Kandinsky is more of a composer than an artist, simply because it composes his painting rather than painting them. No color has its own meaning. When colors are mixed together, they create a meaning together. Kandinsky lets the energy of one color to flow from one to another. For instance, the color blue next to green creates an entirely different feeling inside a person rather than when placed next to red. It is a composition of colors and textures on a canvas. Kandinsky s paintings have given a new meaning to music to the deaf viewers. For a person, who has never heard of music, Kandinsky s painting will be a life changing experience. Kandinsky did almost 30 preparatory drawings but it is so stunning to learn that after all the preparatory exercises, he executed the painting in less than four days. The preparatory of this painting includes fifteen other variants. And the variants include drawings, water colors, wood cuts, and oil paintings on the related themes. It is said Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII 4 that, Kandinsky s composition VII is a combination of the resurrection of the Christ, The last judgement, and The Garden of Love in an operatic outburst of pure painting. Health Between Urinary Bpa Levels And Increased Body Mass 2.3 Adverse effects 2.3.1 Obesity Several studies indicate that there is an association between urinary BPA levels and increased body mass in children and adolescents. In a cross sectional analysis , a nationally representative subsample of 2838 participants aged from 6 to 19 year old were randomly selected, and their urinary BPA concentration and body mass index (BMI) were measured. They found that the urinary BPA concentration were significantly associated with obesity in participants, while obesity was not associated with exposed to other environmental phenols in other commonly used consumer products, such as soaps and sunscreens (Trasande et al. 2012). Another cross sectional study conducted in China was also with the aim to investigate the association between BPA exposure and BMI. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that urine BPA concentrations were significantly correlated with increasing BMI in school children (Wang et al. 2012a). In addition, there is also epidemiological evidence that an increased urine BPA concentration is associated with obesity in adults. Wang et al. (2012b) conducted another cross sectional study based on a sample of 3390 Chinese adults with age 40 years or older. They found there is a positive correlation between urinary BPA concentration and generalized obesity as well as abdominal obesity in adults. 2.3.1 Diabetes In animal experiments, there is evidence that the offsprings of pregnant mice treated with BPA developed glucose ... • 6. Air Driven Engine Project Report CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION At first glance the idea of running an engine on air seems to be too good to be true. Actually, if we can make use of air as an aid for running an engine it is a fantastic idea. As we all know, air is all around us, it never runs out, it is non polluting and it is free. An Air Driven Engine makes use of Compressed Air Technology for its operation. Compressed Air Technology is now widely preferred for research by different industries for developing different drives for different purposes. The Compressed Air Technology is quite simple. If we compress normal air into a cylinder the air would hold some energy within it. This energy can be utilized for useful purposes. When this compressed air expands, the energy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fig. 2.1 working of two stroke engine There are no traditional valves in a two stroke engine. In a two stroke the engines fires once every revolution. This makes the engine highly efficient and lightweight compared to four stroke systems. Rather than entering through valves, the fuel/air mixture enters through an intake port and exhaust exits out of an exhaust port. In place of traditional valves the two stroke engine uses the piston s position to force out exhaust or suck in fuel mixture. Reeds are vital to a two stroke system. The reeds are placed between the intake manifold and the carburetor, open and close to allow the fuel / air mixture to enter the case of the engine and trap it, and ensure the proper exchange of gasses in the engine. This procedure might sound complex, but it is, in fact, extremely effective and easy to understand. The whole cycle can be explained as follows: 1) As the piston moves from bottom dead center to top dead center it creates a vaccum to draw the fuel / air mixture through the carburetor and past the reed valve assembly. 2) The piston moves down from top dead center to bottom dead center. The reed closes, causing the pressure to build in the cylinder. The movement of the piston uncovers the intake port and pressurized the fuel / air mixture. 3) The piston now moves up from bottom dead center to top dead center, effectively ending a cycle and starting another. • 7. Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically... Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference to the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression. Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production within this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst limited to reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this framework where values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille argues, restricts our liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille sees this as a principle of powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do this because he cannot justify it in utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this interest. The father of the boy is partly responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and destroy through things he provides for him: a home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as there is something fundamental within the character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how in society, the father is like production, which provides us with the basic components of living but not what we really need and how this excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. We believe that it does. quote from the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court decision. To this day, Brown Versus the Board of Education is known as one of the most significant Supreme Court rulings of the 20th century. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with this, the Brown versus Board of Education ruling gave hope to blacks and colored people throughout Africa and Asia that in the U.S. regardless of your skin color, prosperity and equality are possible. The end of equal but separate facilities is the most important outcome from the Brown versus Board of Education ruling. During the late 1800 s many states declared that blacks and whites could not use the same restrooms, ride the same buses, or attend the same schools. Even though this was a state law, many people disagreed with this, and thought that the law was insane. Basically this law permitted segregation amongst race. The law stated that the segregation amongst people was allowed as long as the facilities, homes, or whatever was separated was equal. In most scenarios this was not the case. Due to the pure outrage of this law the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was created in 1909. This organization s primary goals are to safeguard and secure social, educational, political, and economic equality amongst all people. Also they attempt to destroy racial disgust and discrimination. For years before the Brown versus Board of education case came about, the NAACP was trying to persuade Congress on other laws to help protect blacks from lynchings and other racist actions. The NAACP is linked to the Brown versus Board of Education case in that they helped overturn the separate but equal law. At the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Psychological Idealism In Editha William Dean Howells Editha tells the story of a young girl and her plan of manipulating her fiancé to go off to war. Howells uses psychological realism during the readers initial encounter with Editha, her interactions with George, and ultimately how she reacts to his death to express how romantic idealism can lead to unethical ideals. Editha s romantic views of war leads to a tragic outcome and readers are taught the importance of always loving someone for they are. Psychological realism is evident almost immediately in the story. She had already decided that she could not let him stay... (Howells 43), Editha begins making decisions in her mind without consultation from those that it affects. As the story continues, readers learn that due to George s upbringing, he is anti war. However, Editha believes that war is glorious and that George enlisting would be a symbol of his love to her, ...if he could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero... (Howells 44). The character contest comes into play when readers discover that George is willing to do whatever it takes to please Editha, and she knows this too. It isn t a matter of who loves who more but, a matter of which individual is willing to sacrifice their own ethical beliefs to save the relationship. As Editha has many encounters with George, it is most clear to the reader that George is the realist in the relationship, and Editha is indeed the romanticist. • 14. Lab Experiment On The Effect Of Temperature On Enzymes Title: Effects of Temperature on Enzymes Problem/Purpose: How does temperature affect the rate of enzyme activity on its substrate? Hypothesis: If the temperature increases, then rate of the chemical reaction will increase as well, and if the temperature decreases, then the rate of reaction will also decrease. Data: There were three test tubes in which the experiment was held. A relatively equal sized portion of raw potato (this contained the enzyme [a biological catalyst] hydrogen peroxidase) was placed in each tube. Then, enough water to cover the potato was added. Proceeding this, each of the test tubes were assigned a temperature; cold, room temperature or warm (this was written on the tag so that they were not confused). The test tube destinated cold was placed in a ice bath for five minutes. At the same time, the hot test tube was placed in a hot water bath for five minutes. Meanwhile, the room temperature test tube sat at room temperature for five minutes. When the five minutes were over, the test tubes were returned to the rack (so that they were able to be observed). Then, the test tubes were allowed to sit at room temperature for five more minutes. Once that period of time was over, 2 ml of hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) was added to each tube. Once this step was completed, a timer was started and observations were made. Using the timer, how long cellular respiration (this was noted by the appearance of gas in the tube) took to start was noted. Noted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. European Imperialism Research Paper Emily Wren IR 351 Woldemariam 9 October 2014 The history of Morocco relevant to European colonialism begins with the Arab conquest of North Africa in the late seventh century. When the Arabs arrived, they brought with them the religion of Islam and converted the people they found there. Those people were the Berbers, who are indigenous to the region. Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. Later, less than a century after this conquest, the Berbers revolted and regrouped into smaller, self governed states. However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention (Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built 26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in order to keep control over the region. For example, the, Berber Dahir legislation of 1930 that had established different legal systems for the two Moroccan ethnic groups, Imazighen (Berbers) and Arabs a policy resented by both groups ... • 17. We Are Seven This poem, we are seven, tells the story of a man talking to a young girl about her family and how many siblings she has. Even though two of her siblings are dead, and only four are alive, she insists that she and her brothers and sisters are seven in total. The man, however, thinks that they are only five. He thinks that the dead siblings don t count and that she should only count the family members that are physically there. Throughout the writing and the dialogue in this poem, we can clearly understand that the little girl and the man think about death entirely differently. The girl believes that when people die, they are still apart of the family and life that they once lived and then left behind. She thinks that although her siblings ... In these 2 specific stanzas I think there is a lot of interesting imagery that really shines through and it also shows the extreme difference in the way the girl thinks about death and the way the man thinks about death. The girl speaks of her siblings as if they are still with her. The little girl says that she dwells near them with my mother at their cottage. She is explaining her sibling s state in a more matter of fact language. That she does this and that she is with them. Also in this part of the poem, the little girl describes heir burial with the word dwell which suggests sleeping rather than actually being dead. The little girl also uses imagery to explain the reality of her two deceased siblings. She tells the man, their graves are green. This detail of color imagery makes it more real to the girl. By sharing this detail it shows that these graves mean something to her, they are not just where her siblings lie dead but where they are currently residing. She also mentions to the man the activities she does when she is with them: knitting, sewing, eating and playing. By saying that she does these activities with them, it really shows how she thinks of her siblings continuing to be with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Solibo Magnificent Essay The storyteller who has so long used his position to speak to the experiences of his audience utters his last words, a declaration of his own pain and suffering at the unavoidable and rapid obsolescence of his craft, and no one hears him. The writer endeavors to tell his story, to write his elegy, and finds his efforts to be utterly lacking in comparison to the alternative, now presumably dead, medium of the spoken word. Yet, the irony of it is that in attempting to make this case for the supremacy of the oral tradition of storytelling, in his novel Solibo Magnificent, Patrick Chamoiseau has created a work of literature that is at once intensely emotional, playfully satirical and almost heartbreaking in its capacity to empathize with the experience ... He is crippled by the fear that he will do it wrong, that to write down the word was nothing but betrayal, you lost the intonations, the parody, the storyteller s gestures (158). There are things about the very nature of oral tradition that just cannot be replicated in writing and will be lost once the memories of those who experienced Solibo directly are lost to time. In fact, it is his memories of Solibo to which Chamoiseau returns as he struggles with the transition: I d spend weeks recalling what the Master said, searching out his tone, the look in his eyes, the moments when his amused expression belied the gravity of his sentences and those times when the fear that danced in his eyes only fed the flowers of laughter (158). Again, the frustration of knowing exactly what it is he wants to express while being entirely unable to do so comes through clearly in Chamoiseau s words somewhat ironically, as he has found a way to express something deeper than just the surface meaning of his words while wringing his hands over being unable to do just ... The Bracelet by, Yoshiko Uchida, is about a girl, Ruri, and her Japanese family getting sent to a concentration camp. This took place during WWII when the Japanese has just bombed Pearl Harbor. Because of this, many Japanese were being sent to concentration camps because the US government thought that all Japanese were spies. But actually, most of the Japanese were loyal to the US. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, is about a girl named Margot, who lived on Venus with her family and others. But all the other kids there came when they were two years old. Margot came when she was four years old. So, all the kids but Margot don t know what the sun looks like because, on Venus, it would rain every day nonstop. But, every 7 years, the sun would come out and it would only be out for exactly 1 hour. Once that one hour is up, then the pouring rain would start again. However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and lead, are more problematic. These metals enter the water during distribution, through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. • 30. Persuasive Essay On Mental Health It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent situations. Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ). It has been chosen to accomplish this task by dividing the chapter into three main parts. The first one will present the possibility to identify the launch of non binding elements as valid strategies aimed at driving the behavior of actors. Particularly, their ability to be perceived politically, socially and morally binding will be discussed.
