Ventilator Associated Pneumoni Pneumonia
Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Karissa Ellison George Washington University Ventilator Associated
Pneumonia Introduction Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is defined as pneumonia in a patient
who is intubated and ventilated at the time of the onset of the event or 48 hours before, and VAP rate
as the number of ventilator associated pneumonias per 1,000 ventilator days (Institute for Healthcare
Improvement, 2014a). The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) gives the following example of
how to calculate the number of VAP s in a month: if 25 patients were ventilated during the month and,
for purposes of example, each was on mechanical ventilation for 3 days, the number of ventilator days
would be 25 x 3 = 75 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason the costs increase is related to the fact that a patient who develops VAP increases their
length of stay in the ICU an additional 4 to 9 days. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
has listed VAP as a preventable disease; this could lead to hospitals not being reimbursed for care of
patients who develop VAP (Sedwick, Lance Smith, Reeder, Nardi, 2012). Promoting strategies to
improve this quality measure is imperative because critically ill patients are more vulnerable and
susceptible to infections. The focus of ICU s and the nurses who work there is providing care that
patients need and ensuring quality and safety. The purpose of this health care quality indicator is to
help nurses and physicians reduce the occurrences of VAP, resulting in reduced mortality and
morbidity among ICU patients who are mechanically ventilated, and to reduce costs for hospitals.
Quality Improvement Process The Centers for Disease Control s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety
Network (NHSN) is used nationwide to track healthcare associated infections. NHSN provides data
needed to identify problem areas, measure the progress of prevention, and help to eliminate healthcare
associated infections (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015a). The NHSN provides a
surveillance tool that hospitals can use to track VAP events. The CDC

George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay
Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s
Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of
Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations
that occur among animals. The state of communism that Marx and Friedrich Engels describe is where
the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one
is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly
contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his
dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The
Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of
communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass
through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they
remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal.
The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men
with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would
overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals
emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However,

Survival Of Tsarism Essay
How far were divisions amongst opponents responsible for the survival of Tsarist rule, 1881 1905?
Divisions of opposing groups of the Tsar were important to the survival of Tsarist Russia. However,
other factors such as the church, the belief of the divine right, the army and the Okhrana were also
effective in keeping the Tsar in a state of power.
Firstly, the opposition groups of the Tsar were known as the Populists, the Liberals and the Marxists.
Each group had its own ideas on what was needed for Russia and each group wanted change,
however, there were many problems within the groups and none of them were willing to work with
each other. The Populists who were mainly concentrated on establishing a democratic government
used violent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These teachings were a massive problem for the Populists when they assassinated Tsar Alexander II,
the people of Russia had seen the culprits publicly hanged by the Tsar s son, Alexander III and this
caused massive hatred towards the opposition group, especially as the Populists were built up of 85%
of the peasant population! The Tsar was seen as the Dear Father , who would want to kill someone
who had been put on the throne by God himself?
Thirdly, the Tsar had the benefit of controlling the army and the secret police force, the Okhrana. The
Tsar was the commander and chief of the Russian army, he had total control of it and they had been
loyal to the Tsar for many years (Nicholas I had an input in creating the Okhrana). The army and the
Okhrana were used very efficiently by the Tsars. If anybody opposed the Tsar with violent protests or
demonstrations, the army would be called in and many of the protesters would be shot and trampled
on by horses. As well as removing current threats to the Tsar, the armies input effected possible
opponents, as they knew what their own fate would be if they also tried to oppose the Dear father .
The Okhrana was also very effective, it was known for infiltrating opposition groups and dividing
them even further. If an opposition group member was caught, they would be exiled to Siberia to die a
cold and

The Mummy In Ancient Egypt
Imagine you re an archeologist exploring Egypt and you find an old tomb, one that has not been
ransacked. Strangely, the mummy is a pharaoh in only a rich man s tomb and it turns out this ruler
died young. The mummy is King Tutankhamun and he was killed by Aye, his chief advisor. Aye killed
King Tut for power over Ancient Egypt. Evidence shows that the pharaoh had many injuries before his
death. Aye killed King Tut when they were hunting. Evidence supports this because King Tut s Femur
was broken and the skin was cut which suggests a sudden act of violence, caused by Aye slicing the
young king s leg making him lose control and be crushed by his horse. Another piece of proof is that
the king had a hemorrhage in his skull that may have been an effect of the horse falling over. The ruler
had two separate resins applies at two times which hints that one was applied far away and the next
during mummification. Aye sabotaged and killed King Tut when hunting. When Aye ... Show more

Horemheb killed Aye because he saw him kill Ankhesenamun. Horemheb killed the Hittite prince
because the Egyptians and Hittites were enemies. He erased the names because their rules were
disgraceful in comparison to his great rule. He became pharaoh after Aye because Horemheb
convinced Tey, Aye s first wife, to marry him. Horemheb did several things during and after Aye s rule
of Egypt. Some believe Ankhesenamun was a Hittite spy. However Ankhesenamun was Nefertiti s
daughter. Ankhesenamun was not a Hittite spy. King Tutankhamun was a pharaoh killed by his chief
advisor. Evidence shows that King Tut s front rib cage is missing and it s likely Aye took it so the king
would not fare well in the afterlife. This would happen because it was believed the body needed to be
preserved in the afterlife. King Tut was murdered by Aye which put several events in

Cyber Security Operation Centers ( Soc )
Security Operation Centers (SOC) are established in order to defend and protect their constituents
from illusive and perilous threats. Cyber Security Operation Centers (CSOC) have a more difficult
role to play with their adversaries cloaking themselves with online aliases and high anonymity
proxies. With technology racing at a lightning speed, CSOCs have no time to waste reaching their Full
Operational Capability, bringing them to be completely capable detecting, analyzing and mitigating
crises that their promised constituents face. Cyber Security Operation Centers play a much larger role
than simply incident response; depending on what CSOCs define their mission to be, CSOCs can be
created to handle and cyber security related task. This breadth makes what they define as Full
Operational Capability (FOC) as broad as their networks reach. Reaching Full Operational Capability
is not a simple task, and many SOCs fail to reach FOC, much less in their designed time period. Initial
Operational Capability is the minimum point where a SOC can start caring out the mission to the bare
minimum, but this is not sufficient for the SOC nor is it the end goal. CSOCs were not made to stay at
their minimum capabilities, but the road to Full Operational Capability is paved with challenges and
unplanned potholes on the way to their correct destination. In order to help CSOCs and SOCs alike to
reach their Full Operational Capability, eliminating the challenges and potholes must be held to the

How Technology Has Changed Today s Society
Introduction In today s society, the computers we have now compared to the ones in the past, vary
greatly. Back then, we could not do the many things that we could today with our technology. Our
technology has grown tremendously throughout the years and with this technology, we have been able
to accomplish a vast amount of things. With this exponential rate of our technology, it opens many
opportunities for us. Also, it could possibly open up to the Singularity . In that case, there will be
many outcomes of the singularity. Background Before the history of computers actually got started,
the word computer was being used around the 1700 s. It was defined as a human who was able to
perform multiple calculations. The history of computers dates back to the 1820 s. A man by the name
of Charles Babbage began developing a Difference Engine . The difference engine was a machine that
was able to count multiple sets of numbers. In 1937 J.V. Atanasoff does an experiment in which he
tries to create the first computer without gears, cams, belts or shafts. Four years later, Atanasoff, with
the help of his graduate student Clifford Berry, they are able create a computer that is able to store and
maintain information. This is the first digital computer. From this point on, many people help join in
on the history of the computer. In 1947/1948, the transistor was created. The transistor had a great
impact and influenced the way of computers. John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William

Gender Dynamics Within Iran — Offside Film
The Gender Dynamics Within Iran Throughout the various texts and films we observed this semester,
there were a multitude of underlying themes associated with each. These themes do not live in a
textual or film related vacuum, but rather offer major implications on given Middle Eastern cultures.
In the fictional film Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, he decides to zero in on the complex culture
within Iran. He illustrates the culture within Iran by employing the 2006 World Cup qualifying soccer
match between Iran and Bahrain as a metaphor of the various social dynamics attached to this sporting
event and the country as a whole. That said, there are numerous underlying themes associated with
this film. In this paper, however, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the man on the minibus vehemently warns the girl about getting caught at the stadium
and tries to help her as he seems to be legitimately worried for her wellbeing. Also, the ticker scalper
fretfully asks the if she know[s] what they ll do if they catch [her]? (Panahi). This implies the public
perception of the military s enforcement of this law is extremely strict and violating it is very much
unsafe. However, the actions of the soldiers in their treatment of the girls suggests otherwise. At the
end of the movie, the girls and soldiers are celebrating with all the Iranian people in the streets after
the huge win, which provides the notion that these young women got off scot free. Perhaps Panahi is
symbolizing fear tactics practiced by the government in order to promote law abiding citizens. The
soldier who appears to be in the leadership position is greatly concerned with going on military leave
as he tells a girl, [he] should be on leave...it s [her] fault [he s] on duty here (Panahi). More than
detaining these girls, he is concerned with moving back to his village and taking care of his family.
The only reason he is detaining the girls is because [he] [has] responsibilities and [he ll] be punished if
he releases them (Panahi). There seems to be an evident discrepancy within the Iranian hierarchy as it
pertains to the legal policy prohibiting women from

Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit
One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three
archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish side of
him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an
alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the
supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, Under Hill has
invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at his
door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin tunnels.
Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them any to
nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit 174}. This
displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the backing of the ring.
Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo aloud, but what he thought
inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his left breast as bare as a snail out of

Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and
hear the pine trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking
stick {Tolkien, The Hobbit 28}. This gives an exemplar of the Tookish side calling Bilbo to adventure.
Yes, you have! Twice now. My pardon. I give it you. In fact I will go so far as to send you on this
adventure. Very amusing for me, very good for you and profitable too, very likely, if you ever get over
it {Tolkien, The Hobbit 19}. This demonstrates Gandalf being the call to adventure by insisting Bilbo

Framingham Heart Study Summary
1.) The Framingham Heart Study was a long term observational Study that succeeded so incredibly
well over the past half century, because it made its participants feel as if they were collectively
dedicated toward an end bigger than themselves (Brink and Levy 23). This entire trust and personal
investment mobilizations effort had been completely intentional and calculated as a purposeful
construction in order to [transform] a community that might resist medical intrusion to one that would
take pride in the Study (Brink and Levy 58). We see, very notably also, that Meador s success in
attracting attention was owed to his skill for mobilizing social influence (that which we refer to as
being a natural leadership skill or charisma) in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People do (Krieger 17). Thus, we recognize that the social categories such as ethnicity, socioeconomic
status, class, and gender will implicitly also color the means by which active thinking behind the act of
data inquisition is encouraged and framed (Krieger 17). This is yet another representation of how the
social reality we are steeped in (that we owe to presence of a collective conscience) reproduces itself
in the epistemological the all too subjective pursuance and cultivation of knowledge regarding our
objective, external reality. Such a ubiquitous pressure, thus, also finds a way to assert itself into a
seemingly objective, knowledge based decision regarding when data is to be omitted or not omitted
(especially, in regards to the aforementioned social categories). Thus, fact is based very far from Fact
that is, the objective facticity of a external, continuously unfolding reality to be parsed through and
made sense of by minds and subjectivities helplessly, absurdly oriented toward the past and toward the
actions of their cognitive forefathers. And this makes social movements all the more difficult when
oftentimes what is portrayed as objective and uncontestable is the product of the very social structures
and inequalities that the health social movement is

The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most centralized countries in the Middle East. Known for
its abundant oil supply, desert land, and strict adherence to Islam, Saudi Arabia is a culture that is very
different from those of Western nations. Analyzing the national and business culture can prepare a
Westerner for working in Saudi Arabia and help them avoid intercultural conflict.
In 1932, King Abd al Aziz established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Though he passed away in 1953,
the monarchy continued through his sons. The Kingdom is located in the Middle East, with the
Persian Gulf to the East and the Red Sea to the West. At 2,149,690 km2 it is the 13th biggest country
in the world. Its location provides it with strong shipping capabilities particularly for oil through use
of the Gulf and the Suez Canal. The land is mostly uninhabited with dry sandy deserts, plateaus and
mountains which are subject to extreme hot weather. Possessing much of the world s oil reserves, the
country s culture has been shaped by this industry. The country also has large natural gas reserves, and
deposits of copper, gold, and iron.
The population consists of 90% Arabs and 10% Afro Asians. Its population is approximately 27.3
million, of which 30% (8 million) are immigrants. In terms of age structure, more than 60% of the
population is aged between 15 54 years old (Appendix 11.1). The life expectancy at birth is 74.82

The Bell Curve Research Paper
The idea many people often perceive about intelligence today is how smart you are and what you re
capable of remembering off the top of your head. It can be looked at as a black and white topic: your
smart or you re not. But intelligence is much more than this, and there are many forms of intelligence.
What a person is intelligent in often leads them into an occupation they are able to be skilled at. The
fight between intelligence stemming from genetics or the environment is still present today. Of the
different types, interpersonal intelligence is in other words, being people smart. Mental health
professionals and agents with the FBI such as hostage negotiators all have a high rate of interpersonal
intelligence, and they use this skill everyday ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herrnstein and Charles Murray, evidence shows that intelligence is to a significant extent inherited.
Since 1994 when the book was published, there has been more research on the topic of where it comes
from. The battle still exists between stemming from our surrounding environment or being in the
genes. Sue Ramsden at University College London did an IQ study with some of her colleagues on 33
adolescents. She did the study 3 4 years later and found the adolescents test scores increased, some
dramatically. This evidence shows that intelligence can change throughout one s life. Upbringing
plays a role in an individual being able to explore their own mind and intelligence. If a child is raised
without encouragement and direction, they may have a negative view and a harder time wanting to
explore knowledge. Reading to child when they re young, traveling to other cities/states, and
communication all are factors in opening the mind of children at a young age that can carry on into
adulthood. But here s where the controversy comes in. Some children and adolescents who did not
have a good upbringing, had a rocky childhood and un directive parents still have turned out to be
straight A students and have a high, and growing, intelligence in one or more areas. Everyone has
different abilities and finding what that is can look easy to some people whereas some may have a

The Armed Forces
I am against the inclusion of women in the armed forces based on the utilitarian concepts of the
happiness of society as a whole, and the effectiveness of the armed services. I also draw conclusions
from the Aristotelian principles of justice and women s ability to be worthy of being soldiers
Since the repeal of Don t Ask, Don t Tell in 2011, there has been a quiet uproar over the idea of female
combat forces in our military. There are strong arguments from either side of the aisle; The
maintaining of historical values in the military, or the modernization of our armed forces. Most are
political or social arguments, pathos rhetoric in a logos dispute.
Taking a philosophical perspective on the case of women in the military would entail looking at the
problem from two sides: the effect it would have on society and the effect it has on the Armed Forces.
To argue it from either side will require the ascertaining of concepts based on great thinkers such
Bentham, Nozick, and Aristotle.
The defense of women in the military comes from the libertarian perspective that people have a
natural right to take part in any activity that they want to and have the ability to. Arguments for being
able to enlist in the active combat services of the military could be drawn parallel to the arguments
against the draft and forced enlistment.
The draft forced members of the American public to participate in a war they often did not believe in.
This was a breach of the American people s rights to

Demonetization of Currency Merits and Demerits of it in society and country
First of all what is demonetisation?
Demonetization of currency means banning of the particular currency and replacing it with a new
currency. In the current context it is the banning of the 500 and 1000 denomination currency notes as a
legal tender.
What was the objective behind it?
The Objective behind the Demonetization scheme in India is discussed below:
While the normal public all over India is stressed by standing in long ATM queues blaming the Indian
Government for their troubles, the government has introduced this scheme with some of the superior
motives for the benefit of the nation as a whole. Some of the reasons why the scheme was introduced
include:

It will have added benefits to it as well.
However, if we compare the merits verses demerits, it will be safe to conclude that the former
outweighs the latter.
Even though there is suffering and agony among the masses right at the moment but the forecast is
that its benefits will be seen in the long run.
The government is taking all the necessary steps and actions to meet the currency demand and soon
the trial and tribulations of the people will be over with the smooth flow of the new currency
So we can say that it has both merits and demerits but in future we can say that itbhas positive effect
on country and its people. All in all, the demonetization is a bold step that is working its way through
ups and downs in India right now. It feels like a step taken by a mother (Mother India) teaching its
child (the public) a lesson and instil stronger values in it to ensure its bright future. Demonetization
can hence be termed as a necessary evil as of now and a way of paving its way towards a more stable
and economically stronger road for

Analysis Of Greasy Lake By T. Coraghessan Boyle
Young people often experience a time in their lives where they desire to be defiant and unruly.
However, this vision is often removed from their minds when they come into contact with a situation
that changes their whole mindset on what it really means to be bad. Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan
Boyle is a coming of age story about an adolescent boy and his two friends on their journey to self
awareness The protagonist and his friends create a bad boy facade in order to fit in, but as the story
unravels, they begin to remove their disguise in their discovery that what is in trend is not always
morally right. The protagonist, who is also the narrator of the story, transitions from a naïve boy who
is a rebellious exhibitionist unsure of his true identity to a more mature man that realizes what it really
means to be bad after one night s traumatizing events. Although the protagonist and his two friends
think they are truly bad characters, they are ultimately just rebellious teenagers. Boyle presents the
three boys as being wild and bad but quickly eliminates those traits, as the reader understands that
they are just three boys acting out as unaware self entitled teenagers. Truly bad characters do not still
live with their parents at nineteen or drive their parent s station wagon (Boyle 409). There are many
acts of rebellion in Greasy Lake. Most of the things that the protagonist does are illegal, and things
that no parent wants their child to do. The narrator and his

How Did Structural Functionalism Contribute To The...
Structural functionalists view the family as a unit that meets the need of its members. When the family
functions well, it contributes to the stability of society. Marriage is viewed as a mutually satisfying
arrangement between 2 members of the opposite gender. Traditional gender roles are carried out with
the man being the financial and status provider in a family, and the woman performing household
duties, providing emotional and sexual support, and raising the children. Structural functionalists feel
that these traditional roles make for a strong family unit, in which the children grow up to become
well functioning members of society.
Rapid social change does not win favor in the structural functionalist theory. Trends such as single
parent households, divorce, and most certainly same sex couples are seen as major contributors to the
breakdown of the family. Of course, the functionalist perspective does not take into account the
realities of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe the inequities of traditional marital roles carry over into society and encourage the
continuance of social inequality. Because the family, in most societies, is patriarchal, it is viewed as
contributing to the inequality between the sexes. Having definite gender roles sets up the comparison
of work done by the husband (often valued higher because it brings in the salary) versus work done by
the wife in the home. Conflict theorists further believe that [the family unit] works toward the
continuance of social inequality within a society by maintaining and reinforcing the status quo by
maintaining wealth and privilege within the unit. In this way, members are able to keep their social
status while poor families are denied this privilege

The third movement is from illusion to prayer. Nouwen (1986) indicated that most people live their
lives in an illusion that they will never die. They believe that they hold the key to all that happens in
their lives. They do not put God first in their lives and they do not realize that God is in control of
every aspect of their lives. There are three essentials elements to a fulfilling prayer life; the Bible,
silence, and spiritual guide (Nouwen, 1986). Reading the Bible, and being silence as we mediate on
the word of God. We gain understanding through the power of the Holy Spirit. These spiritual
references are able to help us work through the challenges we may encounter.
The conclusion of the book mentions the importance of spiritual guidance, and the importance of
prayer. Prayer is not only to be done is solitude, but

What Is The Government s Response To The Truman Doctrine
By 1947, US president Harry S. Truman was outraged by the Soviet Union s perceived resistance to
American demands in Iran, Turkey and Greece, as well as their rejection of the Baruch Plan on nuclear
weapons. In February 1947, the British government announced that it could no longer afford to
finance the Kingdom of Greece in its civil war against Communist led insurgents. The US government
s response to this announcement was the adoption of containment, the goal of which was to stop the
spread of Communism. Truman delivered a speech that called for the allocation of $400 million to
intervene in the war and unveiled the Truman Doctrine, which framed the conflict as a contest
between free peoples and totalitarian regimes. American policymakers

Pentecostalism Revival
Another practice or thing that comes along side Pentecostalism is often revivals. Revivals are what
started the Pentecostal movement. There are three different waves that took place from the 20th
Century until currently. Each movement or wave was accompanied with a revival. All different
denominations of Christians experienced these revivals. Anywhere from the Catholics to John Calvin,
to the Quakers experienced some sort of dramatic move from the Holy Spirit. Pentecostalism was
birthed out of these rivals not rivals birthed out of Pentecostalism. There is even evidence of rival in
scripture in Acts 2. Pentecost would be one of the earliest forms of the Holy Spirit working in a way
that revived large groups of people. People often associate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From my research and what I have heard a revival seems amazing and very positive for the Christian
faith. These revivals are breaking out all over the world and transforming unbelievers to Christ
followers. The revivals are creating an environment to welcome God in their midst. It is a positive
thing because it gives God room to be free and work in the ways he wants to. Too many churches
today are extremely structured. The excessive amount of structure can prevent God from moving and
doing what he wants. I think there are positives in revivals being a movement and not a denomination.
Now we see the main denominations that part take are Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. With the rich
history of revivals it still has an open invitation for all different denominations. For example some
Catholic churches take place in these revivals. Any one is welcome to participate in a revival. A
negative thing about revivals can be if people get too caught up in the experience. The experience of
God is a huge part of the revival, but if that is all the large group of people are focus on it can be
harmful. A revival must lead to change and fruit, but if a person is too caught up in the experience they

Similarities And Differences In Ancient Greece
In this essay two Ancient Greek city states (polies) will be compared and contrasted showing how
despite their differences, they both rose to become predominating powers. Ancient Greece consisted of
many small city states, two of which were Athens and Sparta. Athens was considered the center of fine
arts, music, and educational opportunities. Sparta was known for its outstanding military strength and
tactical abilities at war. Life for a Spartiate was comprised of constant training and conditioning for
war, while an Athenian citizen would spend much of their day pursuing what they wished. Although
these two city states were substantially different, they both rose to become the two most predominant
powers in Ancient Greece.
There were several advantages and disadvantages to each of these two polies. Their societal structures
were relatively similar, and their governments were exact opposites. Athens was a very artistic and
philosophical city state while Spartan culture revolved more around the training of men for war and
stability of the government. Spartans valued organization and stability, while Athenians comparatively
valued freedom of choice. There were also huge gender biases between the two polies, and through all
of this, traditions and beliefs have been passed down to our generations today, helping to shape the
world we live in.
To begin with the simplest societal structure of these two poleis. Spartan society was divided into
three main classes. At the top was

Narrative Essay On My Grandparents House
My Grandparent s House The Bloodstains That Won t Come Out We fought like siblings, my mother
said. We fought like sissies, my uncle said. We fought like the goddamn Irish, my papa yelled. And we
did, my cousins and I fought enough to have scrambled eggs for brains. But we always stopped when
the loser started to bleed. I was 5, my cousin Collin was 6, his sister Carley was 9, my other cousin
Milan was also 9 and her brother Entonio was too old to be with kids like us. My grandparents were
building a new house, a house with a basement, a house with a barn to the side, a house with a creek
flowing behind. We all went to where the almost finished barn would be to play. This will be where
MY horse goes, and MY saddle, and MY wheelbarrow. Carley gloated, pointing to all the places in the
barn where HER stuff would be. My, my, my, it was all about Carley, it was her barn, none of the other
cousins had a horse, nor would grandma buy any of us a horse like they did for her. Shut up Carley!
No one cares about your stupid barn or horse, Collin yelled at her sister. Don t say shut up Collin thats
a bad word, Carley threatened. How do you know it s a bad word? Because I m older and not a stupid
turd head like you. Shut up Carley! Collin yelled smiling as he did. Stop that! Carley said walking
towards Collin. Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut Collin was stopped, Carley had come and pushed him

Tinker Vs Des Moines Case Study
Schools have very different policy s when it comes to what the 1st amendment says. 2 cases are proof
of this, Tinker vs Des Moines is a case where a simple armband protesting the Vietnam war which
shouldn t be an issue gets into the supreme court. This is because schools can enforce things that are a
distracting or disruptive to school activity. A similar case to this is Bethel school district vs Fraser is a
case where freedom of speech of a student gets taken away from him. This is due to the fact the
student was making sexual remarks in a school speech which the principle deemed inappropriate for
some students. Both cases directly relate to the first amendment with Tinker vs Des Moines being
freedom of expression and Fraser being freedom of speech. Tinkers case is the best ... Show more

The School made a statement that said if anyone wears the armbands to school and that they will be
suspended. The Tinker kids still showed up with the armbands leading to a suspension. The Tinker
family of Course took this case to the supreme court since the armbands fall under the 1st amendment
freedom of expression. The school argued that the armbands were a distraction to school activity and
that they had a right to enforce the use of armbands to control the classroom environment. There was a
testimony that the armbands did indeed affect the school. The armbands drew comments and students
with the armbands were being made fun of for wearing them. A math teacher said he Had his lesson
period practically wrecked chiefly by disputes with Mary Beth Tinker, who wore her armband . If this
is true it would be in favor of common good since the class can operate without any disturbance if
they made the Tinker kids take the armbands off. The court did not rule this way and opted to protect
the individual rights of the Tinkers. The court ruled that the evidence was not enough to suspend the
Tinkers. Justice Abe Fortas delivered the opinion of the 7 2 majority,

Both, the ŚU and BhG are very specific that the head, neck and trunk should be aligned. In contrast,
YS is more general in the correct meditating posture description. One reason, as I proposed
previously, for that could be that it was accustomed that the guru is present to demonstrate and teach
the student the physical postures, or as Bryant suggests: One could also suppose that other extant texts
concerned themselves with the specifics of asana [posture]. While numerous modern yoga traditions,
especially in the West, accentuate the attainment of the physical posture as the highest aim of yoga,
the old texts treat the physical posture as only a preparation to the body (physically and energetically)
to serve the long meditation practice. As Bryant

Research Paper On Concentration Camps
Concentration Camps In around the 1940 s Adolf Hitler began running the camps we know today
concentration camps that were only for Jewish people. When camps were created, they were not
meant to kill anyone. They were made as detention centers for political prisoners. But if you go into
the years mainly you would see teenagers doing all the work. Why teenagers you ask well because
they were not too young to know what s going on and they are not to old to do any labor. So, what was
Hitler s motive with concentration camps, Hitler had nothing against the Jewish his main objective
was to intimidate his enemies.Out of all the concentration camps the most popular one was called
Dachau. Whenever the Jews/Prisoners were sent to the camps they

The Persuader
I was once scammed online, by a scammer who I was trying to buy a limited edition virtual card. The
thing is when a victim is scammed the first thing he/she would do is blaming the scammer. However,
whose fault is it, the persuader or the victim? In order for persuaders to be able to win they must gain
people s trust, desire and belief. I believe in processes of gaining those things, persuaders usually lie
about certain things to be able to benefit themselves. Who is it to blame if I trusted a doctor who said
he/she could cure my cancer from faith healing and prayers and I die? In this case it s the persuader s
fault because he/she is faking and lying in order to steal from someone. I think it is the
victims/customers responsibility to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course it is also the victim s fault for being naïve and credible. However, I think if you are conned
into giving someone $3000 is a crime freely. For example, some people fake as doctors to scam
people. They might say something like I could cure your mother s breasts cancer by prayer of course it
sounds stupid, but with the desire of the victim, they are likely to be less aware and more credible. The
responsibility should be the person who didn t deliver his/her promises. In this case, I believe the
persuader is the one responsibility for this case because he is faking/lying who he is and what he
promises by faking his identity and could be ruining someone life, happiness and hope. However, I
also think the victim should educate themselves or think carefully before trusting. Con artists who
prey and victimize others should undoubtedly be punished, but we should encourage people to educate
themselves so as to make these crimes. On the other hand salesman who successfully convinces you
into buying something is a very similar case, however I think they are less of a crime, because they are
not completely faking it, at least they are promising the possible outcome like the protein powder. In
this case I think the fault should be more towards the victims because I believe they should know that
some salesmen don t even know their products so they lie and exaggerate about their products. Also,
they are playing with your brain and your desire. Most salesmen only care about money, which is why
they are trying to persuade you. I think victims should educate themselves more because if their
products is really good, they wouldn t even need to come to you and persuade to sell. In cases where
both victims and persuaders are wrong is something like a teacher offers his/her students bribery, but
the teacher keep asking for more money, in this case I

The Heart-warming Story of Rain Man
Rain Man is a heart warming and captivating film, based in the 1980s, in America. The plot revolves
around Charlie Babbitt, who discovers after his father s death that he has an autistic brother,
Raymond. The plot revolves around Charlie spontaneously kidnapping him from a mental hospital and
taking his brother on a bizarre journey of self discovery, culture and self awareness, with the goal of
seeking his late father s inheritance. The director, Barry Levinson who makes a cameo as Raymond s
psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political satire and sci fi films such as
Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012).
Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health, and adding a little comedy as well, Rain Man has
truly left a legacy for the American and global film industry.
One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the director uses minor
characters as props to communicate how society perceived disabled people in the 1980s. For example,
a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a very clever boy . This is significant because she is the only
minor character who treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie who evidently
abuses it. In addition, the mise en scene comprised of high key lighting and a subtle wide angle shot
creates a somewhat ambient atmosphere (Cinematheque, 2010, p. 1). This therefore suggests that this

Why I Enter The Coffee Shop
I enter the coffee shop. As I look around the room, I notice in the far left corner two men occupying a

furrowed brows they shake their heads in disagreement at one another. Being a rather nosey person I
can t help but investigate. After ordering a cup of coffee, I pick up a dusty, crinkled paper and
conveniently select the table adjacent to theirs. I chuckle to myself. To an outsider it will appear as
though I am completely engrossed in reading the paper; nobody will uncover my secret and rather
embarrassing intention: to eavesdrop.

According to your belief, because quality is not definable and is is not based on pure transcendental
knowledge, it is false. Nevertheless, I will attempt to explain to you where your principles seem to fall
short. Quality is scientifically immeasurable and therefore cannot or must not be defined. However
this does not mean it doesn t exist or that it cannot be justified. I now invite you to picture a world
where good and bad has been removed. On the principles of realism, a thing exists of a world cannot
function without it normally . I will attempt to show you the way in which this principle applies to the
existence of quality. A world without good and bad would be meaningless and without purpose. Art,
sports, dance, comedy, flavor, in fact all that relies on the senses would be ruined. The masses would
not be able to tell what was good from bad, funny from boring, bland from savory; life would be
utterly boring. Although the world can function without quality it clearly cannot function normally,
therefore, quality indeed exists regardless if it is defined or not. In fact Quality is what makes up
reality, it is the parent of knowledge, the source of all subjects and objects.
Plato: Such a notion is ridiculous. Truth is based on fixed and defined principles. What you describe as
quality are ever changing sensory experiences and therefore cannot be justified without a preceding

Metaphor In Where Things Come Back
Where Things Come Back is an odd tale about the way loss can affect people. A young man by the
name of Cullen Witter begins his senior year of highschool in the small static town of Lilly Arkansas.
The town becomes infatuated with the supposed return of the long lost Lazarus Woodpecker. Cullen s
summer before his senior year of high school, he first experiences loss in the form of death. His cousin
Oslo passed away due to drug abuse. His second loss is that of his brother, Gabriel Witter, who
suddenly goes missing and disappears. Gabriel, Cullen, and Cabot Searcy s lives are all eventually tied
together because of a missionary named Benton Sage. Cullen Witter also experiences the feeling of
loss in the form of love and second chances. This story shows that hope and finding one s faith can all
come together for one last chance. Whaley uses a metaphor in Where Things Come Back to explain
Cullen s loss of his cousin Oslo. It states, Nothing idealistic about seeing your only cousin ghost white
and stone dead. It is a metaphor because it refers Oslo as ghost white and stone dead without using
like or as as descriptors. The author of Where Things Come Back also uses an idiom on page 88 of
Chapter Nine. It says, Can we just talk for a minute? I said, trying not to laugh at the absurdity of my
situation. Talk is cheap, he said back. This is an example of an idiom because talk isn t literally
measured in wealth, it is just a saying to show that you need to cut to the

  • 2. Ventilator Associated Pneumoni Pneumonia Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Karissa Ellison George Washington University Ventilator Associated Pneumonia Introduction Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is defined as pneumonia in a patient who is intubated and ventilated at the time of the onset of the event or 48 hours before, and VAP rate as the number of ventilator associated pneumonias per 1,000 ventilator days (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 2014a). The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) gives the following example of how to calculate the number of VAP s in a month: if 25 patients were ventilated during the month and, for purposes of example, each was on mechanical ventilation for 3 days, the number of ventilator days would be 25 x 3 = 75 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason the costs increase is related to the fact that a patient who develops VAP increases their length of stay in the ICU an additional 4 to 9 days. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has listed VAP as a preventable disease; this could lead to hospitals not being reimbursed for care of patients who develop VAP (Sedwick, Lance Smith, Reeder, Nardi, 2012). Promoting strategies to improve this quality measure is imperative because critically ill patients are more vulnerable and susceptible to infections. The focus of ICU s and the nurses who work there is providing care that patients need and ensuring quality and safety. The purpose of this health care quality indicator is to help nurses and physicians reduce the occurrences of VAP, resulting in reduced mortality and morbidity among ICU patients who are mechanically ventilated, and to reduce costs for hospitals. Quality Improvement Process The Centers for Disease Control s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) is used nationwide to track healthcare associated infections. NHSN provides data needed to identify problem areas, measure the progress of prevention, and help to eliminate healthcare associated infections (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015a). The NHSN provides a surveillance tool that hospitals can use to track VAP events. The CDC ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations that occur among animals. The state of communism that Marx and Friedrich Engels describe is where the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal. The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Survival Of Tsarism Essay How far were divisions amongst opponents responsible for the survival of Tsarist rule, 1881 1905? Divisions of opposing groups of the Tsar were important to the survival of Tsarist Russia. However, other factors such as the church, the belief of the divine right, the army and the Okhrana were also effective in keeping the Tsar in a state of power. Firstly, the opposition groups of the Tsar were known as the Populists, the Liberals and the Marxists. Each group had its own ideas on what was needed for Russia and each group wanted change, however, there were many problems within the groups and none of them were willing to work with each other. The Populists who were mainly concentrated on establishing a democratic government used violent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These teachings were a massive problem for the Populists when they assassinated Tsar Alexander II, the people of Russia had seen the culprits publicly hanged by the Tsar s son, Alexander III and this caused massive hatred towards the opposition group, especially as the Populists were built up of 85% of the peasant population! The Tsar was seen as the Dear Father , who would want to kill someone who had been put on the throne by God himself? Thirdly, the Tsar had the benefit of controlling the army and the secret police force, the Okhrana. The Tsar was the commander and chief of the Russian army, he had total control of it and they had been loyal to the Tsar for many years (Nicholas I had an input in creating the Okhrana). The army and the Okhrana were used very efficiently by the Tsars. If anybody opposed the Tsar with violent protests or demonstrations, the army would be called in and many of the protesters would be shot and trampled on by horses. As well as removing current threats to the Tsar, the armies input effected possible opponents, as they knew what their own fate would be if they also tried to oppose the Dear father . The Okhrana was also very effective, it was known for infiltrating opposition groups and dividing them even further. If an opposition group member was caught, they would be exiled to Siberia to die a cold and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Mummy In Ancient Egypt Imagine you re an archeologist exploring Egypt and you find an old tomb, one that has not been ransacked. Strangely, the mummy is a pharaoh in only a rich man s tomb and it turns out this ruler died young. The mummy is King Tutankhamun and he was killed by Aye, his chief advisor. Aye killed King Tut for power over Ancient Egypt. Evidence shows that the pharaoh had many injuries before his death. Aye killed King Tut when they were hunting. Evidence supports this because King Tut s Femur was broken and the skin was cut which suggests a sudden act of violence, caused by Aye slicing the young king s leg making him lose control and be crushed by his horse. Another piece of proof is that the king had a hemorrhage in his skull that may have been an effect of the horse falling over. The ruler had two separate resins applies at two times which hints that one was applied far away and the next during mummification. Aye sabotaged and killed King Tut when hunting. When Aye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Horemheb killed Aye because he saw him kill Ankhesenamun. Horemheb killed the Hittite prince because the Egyptians and Hittites were enemies. He erased the names because their rules were disgraceful in comparison to his great rule. He became pharaoh after Aye because Horemheb convinced Tey, Aye s first wife, to marry him. Horemheb did several things during and after Aye s rule of Egypt. Some believe Ankhesenamun was a Hittite spy. However Ankhesenamun was Nefertiti s daughter. Ankhesenamun was not a Hittite spy. King Tutankhamun was a pharaoh killed by his chief advisor. Evidence shows that King Tut s front rib cage is missing and it s likely Aye took it so the king would not fare well in the afterlife. This would happen because it was believed the body needed to be preserved in the afterlife. King Tut was murdered by Aye which put several events in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Cyber Security Operation Centers ( Soc ) Security Operation Centers (SOC) are established in order to defend and protect their constituents from illusive and perilous threats. Cyber Security Operation Centers (CSOC) have a more difficult role to play with their adversaries cloaking themselves with online aliases and high anonymity proxies. With technology racing at a lightning speed, CSOCs have no time to waste reaching their Full Operational Capability, bringing them to be completely capable detecting, analyzing and mitigating crises that their promised constituents face. Cyber Security Operation Centers play a much larger role than simply incident response; depending on what CSOCs define their mission to be, CSOCs can be created to handle and cyber security related task. This breadth makes what they define as Full Operational Capability (FOC) as broad as their networks reach. Reaching Full Operational Capability is not a simple task, and many SOCs fail to reach FOC, much less in their designed time period. Initial Operational Capability is the minimum point where a SOC can start caring out the mission to the bare minimum, but this is not sufficient for the SOC nor is it the end goal. CSOCs were not made to stay at their minimum capabilities, but the road to Full Operational Capability is paved with challenges and unplanned potholes on the way to their correct destination. In order to help CSOCs and SOCs alike to reach their Full Operational Capability, eliminating the challenges and potholes must be held to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Technology Has Changed Today s Society Introduction In today s society, the computers we have now compared to the ones in the past, vary greatly. Back then, we could not do the many things that we could today with our technology. Our technology has grown tremendously throughout the years and with this technology, we have been able to accomplish a vast amount of things. With this exponential rate of our technology, it opens many opportunities for us. Also, it could possibly open up to the Singularity . In that case, there will be many outcomes of the singularity. Background Before the history of computers actually got started, the word computer was being used around the 1700 s. It was defined as a human who was able to perform multiple calculations. The history of computers dates back to the 1820 s. A man by the name of Charles Babbage began developing a Difference Engine . The difference engine was a machine that was able to count multiple sets of numbers. In 1937 J.V. Atanasoff does an experiment in which he tries to create the first computer without gears, cams, belts or shafts. Four years later, Atanasoff, with the help of his graduate student Clifford Berry, they are able create a computer that is able to store and maintain information. This is the first digital computer. From this point on, many people help join in on the history of the computer. In 1947/1948, the transistor was created. The transistor had a great impact and influenced the way of computers. • 8. Gender Dynamics Within Iran — Offside Film The Gender Dynamics Within Iran Throughout the various texts and films we observed this semester, there were a multitude of underlying themes associated with each. These themes do not live in a textual or film related vacuum, but rather offer major implications on given Middle Eastern cultures. In the fictional film Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, he decides to zero in on the complex culture within Iran. He illustrates the culture within Iran by employing the 2006 World Cup qualifying soccer match between Iran and Bahrain as a metaphor of the various social dynamics attached to this sporting event and the country as a whole. That said, there are numerous underlying themes associated with this film. In this paper, however, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the man on the minibus vehemently warns the girl about getting caught at the stadium and tries to help her as he seems to be legitimately worried for her wellbeing. Also, the ticker scalper fretfully asks the if she know[s] what they ll do if they catch [her]? (Panahi). This implies the public perception of the military s enforcement of this law is extremely strict and violating it is very much unsafe. However, the actions of the soldiers in their treatment of the girls suggests otherwise. At the end of the movie, the girls and soldiers are celebrating with all the Iranian people in the streets after the huge win, which provides the notion that these young women got off scot free. Perhaps Panahi is symbolizing fear tactics practiced by the government in order to promote law abiding citizens. The soldier who appears to be in the leadership position is greatly concerned with going on military leave as he tells a girl, [he] should be on leave...it s [her] fault [he s] on duty here (Panahi). More than detaining these girls, he is concerned with moving back to his village and taking care of his family. The only reason he is detaining the girls is because [he] [has] responsibilities and [he ll] be punished if he releases them (Panahi). There seems to be an evident discrepancy within the Iranian hierarchy as it pertains to the legal policy prohibiting women from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish side of him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, Under Hill has invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at his door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin tunnels. Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them any to nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit 174}. This displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the backing of the ring. Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo aloud, but what he thought inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his left breast as bare as a snail out of its shell! { ... • 10. Framingham Heart Study Summary 1.) The Framingham Heart Study was a long term observational Study that succeeded so incredibly well over the past half century, because it made its participants feel as if they were collectively dedicated toward an end bigger than themselves (Brink and Levy 23). This entire trust and personal investment mobilizations effort had been completely intentional and calculated as a purposeful construction in order to [transform] a community that might resist medical intrusion to one that would take pride in the Study (Brink and Levy 58). We see, very notably also, that Meador s success in attracting attention was owed to his skill for mobilizing social influence (that which we refer to as being a natural leadership skill or charisma) in order ... Thus, we recognize that the social categories such as ethnicity, socioeconomic status, class, and gender will implicitly also color the means by which active thinking behind the act of data inquisition is encouraged and framed (Krieger 17). This is yet another representation of how the social reality we are steeped in (that we owe to presence of a collective conscience) reproduces itself in the epistemological the all too subjective pursuance and cultivation of knowledge regarding our objective, external reality. Such a ubiquitous pressure, thus, also finds a way to assert itself into a seemingly objective, knowledge based decision regarding when data is to be omitted or not omitted (especially, in regards to the aforementioned social categories). Thus, fact is based very far from Fact that is, the objective facticity of a external, continuously unfolding reality to be parsed through and made sense of by minds and subjectivities helplessly, absurdly oriented toward the past and toward the actions of their cognitive forefathers. And this makes social movements all the more difficult when oftentimes what is portrayed as objective and uncontestable is the product of the very social structures and inequalities that the health social movement is ... • 11. The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most centralized countries in the Middle East. Known for its abundant oil supply, desert land, and strict adherence to Islam, Saudi Arabia is a culture that is very different from those of Western nations. Analyzing the national and business culture can prepare a Westerner for working in Saudi Arabia and help them avoid intercultural conflict. In 1932, King Abd al Aziz established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Though he passed away in 1953, the monarchy continued through his sons. The Kingdom is located in the Middle East, with the Persian Gulf to the East and the Red Sea to the West. At 2,149,690 km2 it is the 13th biggest country in the world. Its location provides it with strong shipping capabilities particularly for oil through use of the Gulf and the Suez Canal. The land is mostly uninhabited with dry sandy deserts, plateaus and mountains which are subject to extreme hot weather. It can be looked at as a black and white topic: your smart or you re not. But intelligence is much more than this, and there are many forms of intelligence. What a person is intelligent in often leads them into an occupation they are able to be skilled at. The fight between intelligence stemming from genetics or the environment is still present today. Of the different types, interpersonal intelligence is in other words, being people smart. Since 1994 when the book was published, there has been more research on the topic of where it comes from. The battle still exists between stemming from our surrounding environment or being in the genes. Sue Ramsden at University College London did an IQ study with some of her colleagues on 33 adolescents. She did the study 3 4 years later and found the adolescents test scores increased, some dramatically. This evidence shows that intelligence can change throughout one s life. Upbringing plays a role in an individual being able to explore their own mind and intelligence. If a child is raised without encouragement and direction, they may have a negative view and a harder time wanting to explore knowledge. Reading to child when they re young, traveling to other cities/states, and communication all are factors in opening the mind of children at a young age that can carry on into adulthood. But here s where the controversy comes in. Some children and adolescents who did not have a good upbringing, had a rocky childhood and un directive parents still have turned out to be straight A students and have a high, and growing, intelligence in one or more areas. • 13. The Armed Forces I am against the inclusion of women in the armed forces based on the utilitarian concepts of the happiness of society as a whole, and the effectiveness of the armed services. I also draw conclusions from the Aristotelian principles of justice and women s ability to be worthy of being soldiers Since the repeal of Don t Ask, Don t Tell in 2011, there has been a quiet uproar over the idea of female combat forces in our military. There are strong arguments from either side of the aisle; The maintaining of historical values in the military, or the modernization of our armed forces. Most are political or social arguments, pathos rhetoric in a logos dispute. Taking a philosophical perspective on the case of women in the military would entail looking at the problem from two sides: the effect it would have on society and the effect it has on the Armed Forces. To argue it from either side will require the ascertaining of concepts based on great thinkers such Bentham, Nozick, and Aristotle. The defense of women in the military comes from the libertarian perspective that people have a natural right to take part in any activity that they want to and have the ability to. Arguments for being able to enlist in the active combat services of the military could be drawn parallel to the arguments against the draft and forced enlistment. The draft forced members of the American public to participate in a war they often did not believe in. This was a breach of the American people s rights to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Objective behind the Demonetization scheme in India is discussed below: While the normal public all over India is stressed by standing in long ATM queues blaming the Indian Government for their troubles, the government has introduced this scheme with some of the superior motives for the benefit of the nation as a whole. • 15. Analysis Of Greasy Lake By T. Coraghessan Boyle Young people often experience a time in their lives where they desire to be defiant and unruly. However, this vision is often removed from their minds when they come into contact with a situation that changes their whole mindset on what it really means to be bad. Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle is a coming of age story about an adolescent boy and his two friends on their journey to self awareness The protagonist and his friends create a bad boy facade in order to fit in, but as the story unravels, they begin to remove their disguise in their discovery that what is in trend is not always morally right. The protagonist, who is also the narrator of the story, transitions from a naïve boy who is a rebellious exhibitionist unsure of his true identity to a more mature man that realizes what it really means to be bad after one night s traumatizing events. Although the protagonist and his two friends think they are truly bad characters, they are ultimately just rebellious teenagers. Boyle presents the three boys as being wild and bad but quickly eliminates those traits, as the reader understands that they are just three boys acting out as unaware self entitled teenagers. Truly bad characters do not still live with their parents at nineteen or drive their parent s station wagon (Boyle 409). There are many acts of rebellion in Greasy Lake. Most of the things that the protagonist does are illegal, and things that no parent wants their child to do. The narrator and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the family functions well, it contributes to the stability of society. Marriage is viewed as a mutually satisfying arrangement between 2 members of the opposite gender. Traditional gender roles are carried out with the man being the financial and status provider in a family, and the woman performing household duties, providing emotional and sexual support, and raising the children. Structural functionalists feel that these traditional roles make for a strong family unit, in which the children grow up to become well functioning members of society. From my research and what I have heard a revival seems amazing and very positive for the Christian faith. These revivals are breaking out all over the world and transforming unbelievers to Christ followers. The revivals are creating an environment to welcome God in their midst. It is a positive thing because it gives God room to be free and work in the ways he wants to. Too many churches today are extremely structured. The excessive amount of structure can prevent God from moving and doing what he wants. I think there are positives in revivals being a movement and not a denomination. Now we see the main denominations that part take are Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. With the rich history of revivals it still has an open invitation for all different denominations. For example some Catholic churches take place in these revivals. Any one is welcome to participate in a revival. A negative thing about revivals can be if people get too caught up in the experience. Similarities And Differences In Ancient Greece In this essay two Ancient Greek city states (polies) will be compared and contrasted showing how despite their differences, they both rose to become predominating powers. Ancient Greece consisted of many small city states, two of which were Athens and Sparta. Athens was considered the center of fine arts, music, and educational opportunities. Sparta was known for its outstanding military strength and tactical abilities at war. Life for a Spartiate was comprised of constant training and conditioning for war, while an Athenian citizen would spend much of their day pursuing what they wished. Although these two city states were substantially different, they both rose to become the two most predominant powers in Ancient Greece. There were several advantages and disadvantages to each of these two polies. Their societal structures were relatively similar, and their governments were exact opposites. Athens was a very artistic and philosophical city state while Spartan culture revolved more around the training of men for war and stability of the government. Spartans valued organization and stability, while Athenians comparatively valued freedom of choice. There were also huge gender biases between the two polies, and through all of this, traditions and beliefs have been passed down to our generations today, helping to shape the world we live in. The responsibility should be the person who didn t deliver his/her promises. In this case, I believe the persuader is the one responsibility for this case because he is faking/lying who he is and what he promises by faking his identity and could be ruining someone life, happiness and hope. However, I also think the victim should educate themselves or think carefully before trusting. Con artists who prey and victimize others should undoubtedly be punished, but we should encourage people to educate themselves so as to make these crimes. Also, they are playing with your brain and your desire. Most salesmen only care about money, which is why they are trying to persuade you. I think victims should educate themselves more because if their products is really good, they wouldn t even need to come to you and persuade to sell. The plot revolves around Charlie spontaneously kidnapping him from a mental hospital and taking his brother on a bizarre journey of self discovery, culture and self awareness, with the goal of seeking his late father s inheritance. The director, Barry Levinson who makes a cameo as Raymond s psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political satire and sci fi films such as Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012). Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health, and adding a little comedy as well, Rain Man has truly left a legacy for the American and global film industry. One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the director uses minor characters as props to communicate how society perceived disabled people in the 1980s. For example, a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a very clever boy . This is significant because she is the only minor character who treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie who evidently abuses it. After ordering a cup of coffee, I pick up a dusty, crinkled paper and conveniently select the table adjacent to theirs. I chuckle to myself. To an outsider it will appear as though I am completely engrossed in reading the paper; nobody will uncover my secret and rather embarrassing intention: to eavesdrop. I soon gathered that the gentlemen on the right went by the name of Phaedrus (Pirsig s Phaedrus) and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to your belief, because quality is not definable and is is not based on pure transcendental knowledge, it is false. Nevertheless, I will attempt to explain to you where your principles seem to fall short. Quality is scientifically immeasurable and therefore cannot or must not be defined. However this does not mean it doesn t exist or that it cannot be justified. I now invite you to picture a world where good and bad has been removed. On the principles of realism, a thing exists of a world cannot function without it normally . I will attempt to show you the way in which this principle applies to the existence of quality. In fact Quality is what makes up reality, it is the parent of knowledge, the source of all subjects and objects. Plato: Such a notion is ridiculous. Truth is based on fixed and defined principles. What you describe as quality are ever changing sensory experiences and therefore cannot be justified without a preceding base of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The town becomes infatuated with the supposed return of the long lost Lazarus Woodpecker. Cullen s summer before his senior year of high school, he first experiences loss in the form of death. His cousin Oslo passed away due to drug abuse. His second loss is that of his brother, Gabriel Witter, who suddenly goes missing and disappears. Gabriel, Cullen, and Cabot Searcy s lives are all eventually tied together because of a missionary named Benton Sage. Cullen Witter also experiences the feeling of loss in the form of love and second chances. This story shows that hope and finding one s faith can all come together for one last chance. Whaley uses a metaphor in Where Things Come Back to explain Cullen s loss of his cousin Oslo. It states, Nothing idealistic about seeing your only cousin ghost white and stone dead. It is a metaphor because it refers Oslo as ghost white and stone dead without using like or as as descriptors. The author of Where Things Come Back also uses an idiom on page 88 of Chapter Nine. It says, Can we just talk for a minute? I said, trying not to laugh at the absurdity of my situation. Talk is cheap, he said back. This is an example of an idiom because talk isn t literally measured in wealth, it is just a saying to show that you need to cut to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
