Comparison of Character and Voice
Discuss the ways in which the poets present character and voice in; Medusa and Les Grands Seigneurs
The two poems; Medusa and Les Grands Seigneurs (LGS) have their similarities and differences. The
most obvious being both speakers are women and how they subdue men. However, the most apparent
difference is the way both poets present character, with Medusa and her jealousy and mistrust towards
her partner; ...a doubt, a jealously . The standards of a woman are lowered; she is bitter, vicious and
twisted. Having snakes for hair and revealing the monster she has become, whereas in LGS the
dominance and prowess of the woman is expressed, men desperate for her attention; my hurdy gurdy
monkey men . Almost as if she has the men on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of this here is to symbolise the sexual meaning in butt which carries a double meaning, men
were her support, allowing the voice of the poem to have a joke. Remaining with my buttresses the
use of my is a possessive pronoun, once again reinforcing her superiority. In verse two the bowers is a
reference to a shady or leafy recess where lovers might go, however the courtesan could not marry as
she was out of reach , once again augmenting the semantic field. Continuing with the first stanza LGS
much like Medusa uses pleasant images, albeit they are sexual puns; peacocks and cockatoos . Here
the voice is suggesting men are birds, that they show off their colours (peacocks) or their feathers
stand up (cockatoos). Both poems present voice in the form of a 1st person narrative, allowing the
reader to see the point of view (opinions and thoughts) of the narrator. The poem Medusa calls out
directly to the you , the lover; and here you come . LGS on the other hand speaks out to the men and
their desperation, how they are shallow creatures; men were my dolphins . One thing the poems have
in common is found in the first word of the first verse, LGS uses; men and Medusa uses a suspicion .
The effect of this is that the poems straight into the subject, with Duffy s use of suspicion inferring
that the speaker is paranoid. Looking at the final stanza in LGS the voice has changed from active to
passive, the

The Psychological Effects Of Smoking
One thing that smoking affects that a lot of people do not think about is how it affects the people
around the smoker, not only in a physical way but emotionally also. According to a study, kids whose
parents smoke are three times more likely to smoke when they get older. If smokers have kids,
smoking around them increases their risk of having ear infections, asthma and other breathing
problems that include coughs, shortness of breath, and even bronchitis. It s not just children that are at
risk of lung and heart problems, it s every person around a smoker that are put at risk due to
secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals. Hundreds of them being toxic
and 70 have shown to cause cancer in humans. Breathing in secondhand smoke has been shown to
have instant effects on the cardiovascular system of nearby individuals, whether it s from a neighbor s
burning cigarette or from a cigarette outside your window. Over time, it takes a toll on people s lungs
and has been found to increase the risk of having a stroke by 20 30% (Quitterscircle). Smoking also
has an impact on pets and animals. Exposure to secondhand smoke for dogs increases the risk of them
getting lung cancer and nasal cancer, especially long nosed dogs like greyhounds. Cats that are
exposed to secondhand smoke are more than three times as likely to non Hodgkin s lymphoma. They
may also suffer from asthma or lung cancer. Secondhand smoke can also affect the eyesight of birds

Herc Rousseau Self Portrait Sketch
Myself: Portrait Landscape is one of the most representative painting from the genre Portrait
Landscape which created by Henri Rousseau himself. In this painting, the artist (Henri Rousseau) first
painted his favorite city in the background. In the painting, you can see the Eiffel Tower, the iron
bridge crossing the Seine, and the ship along the river with different countries flags which are showing
the Henri Rousseau favorite part of the city Paris, France. In the foreground, the portrait is holding the
paintbrush and the mixing palette representing Henri Rousseau himself. As Henri Rousseau is

From the title Self Portrait with Seven Fingers and also placing his right hand with seven fingers in the
center part of the painting fully reflects his Jewish background and his identity. In terms of Jewish
Numerology, Seven is the general symbol of god. In the painting, we can see the Eiffel Tower from the
window which showed the viewers that the artist (Marc Chagall) was in Paris, France. The broken,
puzzle like objects showing Marc Chagall s early work out in the idea of Cubism. The body shapes,
the face, the landscape seen from the window and the objects in the room have been broken down into
abstracted forms and appear in two dimensional. And Marc Chagall used the element of colour and
value to create the feeling of volume of the body and the facial features. The artist (Marc Chagall)
applied dark and sober colours on the arms, main body, legs and on the face which help to create the
volume of muscles and protrude the facial features. In the painting, Marc Chagall also applied the
principle of contrast. The colour tone of the whole painting is low keyed, appearing a dim
environment. And the artist (Marc Chagall) painted his clothes in bright and warm colours like white,
yellow and red, this great visual contrast can bring viewers attention to him. The artist (Marc Chagall)
also put emphasis on the size and the use of colour intensity so

Arterial Blood Gas Analysis Essay
At 0400 hours on a weekday in a rural suburb, a 911 call is placed for an eight month old female
patient with persistent diarrhea, sunken fontanels, and severe respiratory distress. The local ambulance
service responds to the call and transports the patient to a specialized emergency department for
further evaluation. The mother accompanies the crew with the patient, nervously holding her daughter
s hand and stroking her head. Despite the tense ride, both the patient and mother are delivered to their
destination without incident. The paramedic gives report and rushes to forget the call, while the patient
is whisked into the ED for further testing. An ABG analysis (Arterial Blood Gas analysis) is

A short term compensatory response for respiratory acidosis might include an immediate slight
increase in bicarbonate levels. Another example of compensation would be hyperventilation as a
response to metabolic acidosis. The compensatory response for respiratory alkalosis is a fall in the
bicarbonate level in chronic respiratory alkalosis this is achieved through renal excretion over time,
while in an acute state, lower levels of CO2 produce a slight decrease of HCO3 . The compensatory
response for metabolic alkalosis is hypoventilation. If all three values are abnormal, the patient is in a
partially compensated state because the buffer is actively working to push the equation to equilibrium
to obtain a normal pH value. If the pH is normal and the CO2 and HCO3 are both abnormal, the
patient is in a fully compensated state. If the pH is abnormal and either the CO2 or HCO3 are
abnormal, the patient is in an uncompensated state. The overall goal of compensation is to push the
above equation as close to equilibrium as

Psychedelic Drugs
Psychedelic drugs have been used by people around the globe for the last few decades. They re known
for their abilities to alter perception and invoke behavioral alterations in people who consume the
drugs, such as psilocybin (magic mushrooms), DMT, and Lysergic acid diethylamide(LSD). In 1958
(Moore, Hatada, Dominos) it was found that when consumed by humans, N N Dimethyltryptamine
(DMT), causes visuals that make up of colorful, luminous, rapid changing visual illusions and
hallucinations. Ingestion of a psychedelic drugs such as DMT influences the cortex, optic lobes, and
thalamus, as well as effecting sleep. A possible explanation for visual hallucination while under the
influence of Dimethyltryptamine was presented by a research conducted in 1979. In mammals, such as
cats, N N Dimethlytrptamine was studied with respect to the visual system. It was found that DMT
caused a deceased amplitude response evoked by the stimulation of the optic chiasm. The depression
of electrically evoked potentials in the visual system are DMT dose dependent. The inhibition of the
induced potential was recorded at the lateral geniculate nucleus and at the visual cortex. ... Show more

It is a structurally similar to serotonin and melatonin. There is considerable evidence suggesting that
Dimethyltryptamine acts as a non selective serotonin agonist (5HT 1A and 5HT 2A). It was seen in the
prefrontal cortex of mice that serotonergic hallucinogens interrupt cortical synchrony in the low
frequency range. Mice that were administered DMT experience a reduced serotonin release in the
prefrontal cortex via the 5HT 1A receptor. Another revelation observed was the reduction of low
frequency cortical oscillations in somatosensory, auditory, and visual in wildtype mice. DMT fully
prevented the effect of knockout serotonin 2A receptors by the 5HT 1A receptor agonist. (Riga,

Compartment C And Woman Reading On A Bench
Compare Contrast Good paintings not only create an opportunity for viewers to appreciate beauty, but
are good tools to convey values and influence viewers to do something that is really beneficial.
Edward Hopper s Compartment C was created in 1938, and Irving Wiles Woman Reading on a Bench
was created in 1899. Both paintings show a woman sitting in a chair reading a book, but the
composition, body language and color used in them are quite different with each other. Composition
shows both the artist s state when drawing the picture. Although the two above mentioned paintings
contain female figures who are in the right of the picture, they are not the same in composition.

Double Jeopardy Research Paper
The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. Since the Constitution came
into force in 1789, it has been amended 27 times. The amendments that people are most familiar with
are the 1st 2nd 4th 5th and 6th. The rights stated in these amendments vary from the right to have a
fire arm to the right to a speedy trial in court. The 5th amendment protects citizens from self
incrimination and double jeopardy. Self incrimination is when you expose yourself to a crime or
accusation. The 5th amendment also guarantees due process and prohibits abuse of governmental
authority in legal procedures. Due process is the fair and equal treatment through the judicial system.
Double jeopardy is the second prosecution for the same offense after one has been cleared or
convicted. Or simply put being punished multiple times for the same offense. The 5th amendment
prevents state and federal governments from prosecuting someone for the same crime on more than
one occasion. It also prohibits giving more than one punishment for the same crime. Double jeopardy
is considered is considered one of the oldest legal concepts. An athenian statesman Demosthenes said,

Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Essay
Most individuals probably feel as if they know enough about leadership to speak on the subject. In
many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are
several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to consider
these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any particular form
of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two leaders who are
involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, and Gary
Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles, though, the two operate
within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the same battle of being
outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion of the voting
population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay begins with a
theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders, comparing and
contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they both work within
the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes.
Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). By this
definition, leadership can be considered the product of change and the different ways that response to
this change directs future

Cuban Sugar Revolution
Life in Cuba prior to 1959, simply put, was miserable for most and luxurious for a few. 70% of Cuba s
total area was monopolized by only 8% of those who owned land. One third of the island was owned
by 250 cattle latifundium (ranches). Sugar, however, ruled supreme. Sugar estates controlled 70 75%
of the arable land. The heavy concentration of sugar caused very high annual unemployment because
of the seasonality of the Zara, the sugar cane harvest. At the same time, it kept land out of food
production and forced a heavy reliance on imported food. The result of all these factors was a poverty
ridden society of unemployment, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and a terribly corrupt government.
In January 1959, the change began. Two years of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects of Children Poverty in the UK Essay
My Case Study:
The effects of Children Poverty in the U.K
Introduction When I was young, poverty was so common that we didn t know it had a name a quote
by Lyndon B. Johnson.(Brainy Quotes) We all have witnessed or experienced poverty in our lives
whether we identify or not are not the points of my study. I want people to see the numbers do not lie
and we have to help with this huge increase of poverty. Poverty affects families, groups and
individuals especially the children where the UK is concerned. The major reason for these kids and
families experiencing poverty are the low wages, low benefits or having no income at all. The results
of children poverty can lead to affect their social, educational and personal development. ... Show

In my research on child poverty, I read a scholarly journal entitled UNICEF Child Poverty in
Perspective Report: A view from the UK. In the journal they compared the conditions of the children
living across the world in the industrialized countries. UK was found as the poorest of them all. This
comparison was on average against 21 countries. These reports were started in 2000, where they
resembled a report card of the comparisons but the latest one was February 2007. The report has some
interesting and detailed information on contributing factors on children poverty. The first contributor I
will discuss is emotional and social issues for poor children. These problems include impulsive
behaviors, lack of social skills, anxiety, depression and low self esteem. These problems make it
difficult for future success in school or work as they grow. (UNICEF) Emotional children may begin
to feel helpless and start to separate from the crowd to avoid embarrassment. They have to deal with
the looks and comments of people who are more fortunate talking down to them. There s a feeling of
helplessness and questions on why they have to be less fortunate. This may lead to counseling in more
severe situations. Then there is the part poverty plays in the educational development as well. There
are times when poverty may mean no dinner the night before or not enough breakfast that morning.
Poverty is the leading threat to children s

Multilingualism And Language Shift
A language shift occurs when the people in a particular culture or sub culture change the primary
language that they use for communication (wiseGEEK, n.d). According to Ravindranath (2009),
language shift is the process by which a speech community in a contact situation that is consisting of
bilingual speakers increasingly stops using one of its two languages prefers by other. Tsitsipis (n.d.)
states that when a language is shifting its structural phases do not remain together even though this
holds also true for normal language change. From a purely linguistic of view, one has to find out
which particular changes are due to the influence of the dominant language and which could be

Bhatia (2013), states that bilingualism and multilingualism is an interdisciplinary and complex field .
As is self evident from the prefixes (bi and multi ), bilingualism and multilingualism phenomena are
devoted to the study of production, processing, and comprehension of two or more languages,
respectively. Bilingualism is a specific case of multilingualism, which has no ceiling on the number of
languages a speaker may dominate. The timing and sequence in which one learns each of the
languages has led to other distinctions between kinds of multilingualism. Much of the linguistics
literature, for example, identifies native language or mother tongue as a first language, ignoring the
possibility or diminishing the value of having more than one native language or mother tongue. Such a
person is often referred to as a simultaneous bilingual, while someone who acquires the second
language after the first one is often referred to as a sequential bilingual ( early if between early
childhood and puberty, and late if after puberty). The context of language acquisition leads naturally to
distinguishing between informal bilinguals, who acquire their languages outside of formal settings like
schools, imitating the natural processes of acquiring the mother tongue, and formal bilinguals, who
generally learn the language in schools or similar settings. When these terms apply to groups, one
speaks of bilingual or multilingual communities or nations. The aggregate enumeration of the speakers
in these groups (also referred to as language diversity or demography) will often profile the number of
monolingual and bilingual speakers of each language. For example, there may be a multilingual
community in which speakers are monolingual in each of three languages. This would be rare, and the
language groups would probably be isolated from each other. More often than

usually defined as the time period from the age of two until the age of six or seven years. It is a time

This is based off the principle of encoding specificity, which states that, if you want to optimize
memory, then the conditions surrounding encoding (e.g., where you are when you study, how tired
you are when you study, etc.) should be the same as those surrounding retrieval (e.g., where you are
when you re tested, how tired you are when you re tested, etc.). This is because the conditions
themselves serve as reminders. (Have you ever walked into the kitchen for something, forgotten why
you were there, and as soon as you return to the other room you suddenly remember why you went to
the kitchen?) This includes your environment and your physiology, serving as reminders. Think about
noise level, size of room, lighting, types of furniture, mood, intoxication, sitting position, and even the
way you work with the material (remember G and A). Studies show that learning while drunk is best
remembered while drunk again. Learning after exercising, also best remembered after exercising. The
alternative to this is that you should study under MANY different conditions. This way, the
information comes easily to you regardless of your surrounding conditions. Otherwise, the
information will unfortunately be associated with the specific circumstances you studied under and
will be difficult to remember in any other situation. If you want to remember this stuff outside of
being tested in class, STUDY UNDER MANY CONDITIONS. Study in a noisy place AND a quiet

Social And Cultural Contributions Of Migrations And...
Social and cultural elements of opinions towards migrants and relations between locals and foreigners
are not always easy. In many countries around the world, migrants and migration are constantly being
debated. However, there have been societies like the Nomadic Turks who helped developed
civilizations. The modern world needs to learn how to resolve the issues of migration from these
nomadic cultures. Between 1000 and 1500 CE, the fast movement of human interaction led to the
rapid movements of technology and other advancements that drives our history. Multicultural
associations were established and unite the societies of Europe and Asia. The migration of the clans
and tribes of the Turkish peoples has fundamental significance as they settled in other societies and
learned new cultures. Modern globalization has inspired a rise in migration both near and far,
reinforced by many influences. These ancient places are linked our modern successes and problems
that have occurred and are occurring today as history tends to repeat itself. Most of us would agree
that civilization started in the ancient area of Mesopotamia. Nomadic Turks became noticeable in the
history of Eurasia between the eleventh and the fifteenth centuries. The Turks are ethnolinguistic
groups of Central, Eastern, Northern and Western Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa.
They share a variety of certain cultural traits, common ancestry and historical backgrounds to
Mongolia and East Central Asia.

The reason this film is at the bottom of the list might not be entirely its fault. Marvel Studios at the
time was still not exactly sure where they were going and how Bruce Banner would play into the
future of the MCU. However, this movie is not Marvel s best work. Edward Norton was mediocre,
there is no denying that Mark Ruffalo is a much better, well rounded Bruce Banner. The climax is a bit
of a yawn, but the action scenes are decent. I could care less for the Bruce/Betty dynamic, plus Betty
was kind of a nuisance who got in the way. The CGI was cringeworthy, the Hulk looks borderline
cartoonish. Despite all this, it s an average Hulk origin story, even though it is a bit less than
satisfactory compared to other MCU films.
15) Iron Man 2
Following an amazing film like Iron Man is a hard task, and Iron Man 2 did not meet expectations.
The movie was trying to cover too much content, and at the same time trying to bring the fun, quick
wittedness of its predecessor. At this time, Marvel was trying to figure out where they wanted these
films to go, and their confusion showed through in this film. However, we did get our introduction to

It was quite a slow ride until Frigga s death, then Thor stopped playing games and picked up the pace.
Much of this had to do with the addition of Loki, of course, because what is Thor without Loki?
Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for Jane, who seemed to have run her course enough in the first
film, having nothing left to do in this one but be a host for a parasitic infinity stone. Thor had a huge
character arc in the first film, and he kept that good character in this one. This installment has a cool,

Frankenstein As A Bildungsroman And The Way That People

Frankenstein
Within the first few years of life, babies gain a sense of self awareness. They start to realize that they
are different from the objects and people around them physically. There are many ways that people
can feel a sense of self identity or association within a group. People could identify themselves as
something small, like the town they are from or the school they attend. Or they could identify as a
bigger group of people like their religious beliefs and nationality. This paper will look at Frankenstein
as a Bildungsroman and the way that people in Europe during the nineteenth century could gain
knowledge and a view of self awareness and how people gain knowledge today. One thing that is
fascinating is that the nameless monster in the book is actually the Frankenstein that people tend to
think of, with the big square green head, whereas, his creator s last name is actually Frankenstein. This
is important because as the book progresses, the reader gets a sense that maybe the monster and his
creator, are not so different after all. Although Victor (the creator) was born with a family and has
friends, he distances himself from them when he finds his love for science. They also both try to help
humanity at first but then they both feel depressed and remorse from the recent past. They also both
use the weather and nature to indicate their mood and feelings. When it is nice outside he is hopeful

Anglo Saxon Warriors
The loud scream of the Anglo Saxon warrior was heard as he takes his last breath during battle. His
blood and guts pour out from the inside, fighting with no power left, his sword held high above his
head, he drops to his knees, to his death.
The Anglo Saxon society was built on vengeance and feuds. Starting in the Fifth Century, German
Anglo Saxon warriors destroyed many towns and drove out many native residents in England. Soon,
they took the crown in England and for about a decade the Anglo Saxon people migrated to different
countries, taking their blood feud with them. This meant that, with the death of a kingsman, a man was

The Anglo Saxon society, as a whole, revolved around warfare. Freemen and even teenagers were
made into warriors and expected to fight during battle. Servants fought for their lords while freemen

soldiers carried a variety of different weapons: spears, axes, swords, and bows and arrows. When it
comes to their armor however, there was not much protection seeing as they did not wear metal plate
armor, but chainmail. This was most likely to make it easier to maneuver, walk, and battle on foot.

The Rhetorical Analysis Of The Hope Speech By Harvey Milk
Homosexual people have been misrepresented and refuted their basic civil rights in America over the
years, especially during the late 1970s. During this time, Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected
official in California, was one of the most prominent spokesman on the issues surrounding gay rights.
In 1978 he gave a speech impacting the gay citizens of San Francisco and America, the anti gay right
wing movement supporters, straight allies of the gay movement, and politicians in general. His speech
known as the Hope Speech resonates with people even today as Milk attempted to address gay rights
and the importance of electing gay officials in office, using various rhetorical strategies such as
pathos, logos, and elevated diction. As a skilled speaker, Milk bridged the gap between the majority of
his audience who were not too familiar with homosexuality and those who were. In his speech he uses
pathos to persuade people to join or at least sympathize with his cause, logos to provide a logistical
argument with reason, and ethos to increase credibility. Throughout the speech Milk uses pathos to
connect emotionally to the different audiences he is addressing. To his straight allies, he proclaims that
an ally can not be elected to represent gays because friends can t feel the anger and frustration. They
can sense it in us, but they can t feel it. Because a friend has never gone through what is known as
coming out. This topic also strikes a chord in his gay audience, as coming out is a difficult and
terrifying process. He addresses other minority groups, asking indirectly for their sympathy and
assistance, alluding to the African American civil rights movement of the sixties, and the Latin
American culture s struggles. He references Anita Bryant, an outspoken right wing activist, and tells
his audiences not to fear her or believe her, for she is wrong in her assumptions about gay people. He
also talks of the event in San Francisco where a young man was killed for being gay, causing the
audience to sympathize and also create a sense of urgency for people to make a change. Furthermore,
Milk effectively fills his speech with logos, providing logistical arguments and reason. His major
goals are to persuade

Room Is An Independent Drama Feminist Film Essay
Women in media are underrepresented. They are overwhelmingly valued in film based on their
identification as a mother, wife, or lover. This is cause by media such as internet and TV because they
create comparisons by influencing in an individual s viewpoints of society and setting ideals. Mother s
roles in society are and have been watched at as responsible for the development of their children. If
these requirements are not fit by mothers they are looked negatively upon society. Room is an
independent drama feminist film based on Emma Donoghue novel and is directed by Lenny Abramson
in 2015 that changes society s ideals of women as mothers. The film narrates Ma s story of being
captive in a room that only have skylight, four walls, a bed, a tub, and a TV with poor signal with her
son Jack, a child of rape. After seven years, Jack being five, they are able to escape and Ma s
readjustment to society story begin. Through specific choices in cinematography, Abramson creates a
feminist film that contradict the ideals of mothers in film and plays with Ma s strength making her a
strong mother while being captive in room and transforming her into a weak mother when she readjust
to society. Strength, sacrifice and love is an embodiment of mother. She should always know how
much she is worth and shouldn t let anyone define who she is. A mother s feminine power is very
powerful and at the same time supportive. Till their last breath, they will love their child
unconditionally.

Imagine you are coaching a team in college. You have had a great season and you ve only lost 1 game
and won your division. However, you lose your spot in the playoff to another team that was

College Football. Replacing the BCS with a playoff system would give each of the eleven conferences

teams are left out of the BCS due to 1 loss, even though they might ve had a great season. A playoff
system would even up the playing field, allowing more teams to compete for the National

Higher ranked schools have an option to weaken to protect their undefeated record. Higher ranked
teams can pay lower ranked schools to play against them. This would allow the higher ranked team to
avoid a loss. Many teams pay lower ranked teams to play against them. For example, Alabama (#1
ranked team in College Football) paid West Kentucky (6 7 record) $1.3 million to play them. Another
example is Miami (FL) (ACC Coastal Champion) paid Arkansas State (3 5 record) $300,000 to play

A lot of people state that since there are so many teams, there is no way to play each team. This is
wrong for the following reason. Every team doesn t have to make the playoffs. Only one of every
conference (and one from the FBS Independents with six teams in them). Every team has a conference

championship game. This would mean that every team in each conference (including an FBS

Joan Of Arc As A Leader Of Women
Leader of Men
The Renaissance Era brought about the desire for expansion, in terms of both territory and ideals. Joan
of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France during this
era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that
were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her behaviors
she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women of the time and refused to be
oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl
Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father s flock. She was a very kind

Principles of Design There is not much attention paid for a design when everything is correctly
ordered. The average person seldom sees design in anything at all. While we read newspapers daily
without noticing the skeletal framework that orders the headlines, photography, graphics, text and
other stylistic elements of a page (Bivins Ryan, 1995). An example could be when we raise our glasses
to toast; we do not realize that stems are designed to keep our hands from warming the wine. A good
design is like it exists, but does not call for attention to itself.

MySpace, the design of Facebook webpages is pretty straight forward, and has an easy overview,

By 1825, the number of Jews was roughly 4500 in America, but the number of German Jews

Jewish population growth in America exploded in 1880 through 1924 with close to two million Jews

Henry VIII s Reformation Essay
Henry VIII s Reformation
In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different
opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a
vast anti clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the masses.
However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a
male heir and therefore needed a divorce. The needs and wants of the masses were not taken into
consideration. In this essay I am going to look at England pre reformation and reach my own opinion

But were the clergy really that bad, and if they were would people not have done anything about it? In
the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual

have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn t have a problem with the incidents and
therefore didn t report them. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of
complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti clericalism and
not the other way round.

At risk students are students who are at risk of not completing high school. Students who consistently
perform below expected academic standards are regarded as at risk (Ng Wong, 2013). Dropping out of
high school is a complex social problem for which no simple solution exists. While the most obvious
characteristic of at risk students is academic underachievement, there is solid evidence for using other
characteristics to assist in identifying these children.
Next to academic achievement, the rate of school attendance showed the strongest relationship to

Some low income parents do not have the confidence in their own ability to help their children,

Management of Old growth Forests in the Pacific Northwest
When westward expansion brought settlers to the Northwest in the 1800s, they discovered that
coniferous trees forty feet in circumference [that] shot two hundred feet straight up flourished in the
forests of the Pacific coast (Ervin 55). These early pioneers found the opportunity for economic

On July 23, 1990, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, under the pressure of environmentalists and
scientific studies, listed the spotted owl as a threatened species, one step away from endangered, and
entitled themselves to protecting the owl from hunting, trading, or federal action that could destroy its
breeding or feeding grounds (Carey 13). This listing came on the heels of years of extensive studies of
the spotted owl and its habitat conducted by environmental groups, the timber industry, and
governmental researchers. These studies resulted in recommendations, such as the one made in early
1990 by a committee headed by the U.S. Forest Service s chief, Jack Ward Thomas, calling for 30 40
percent of public forests to be exempted from logging to protect the remaining 3000 6000 owl pairs in
the Northwest. Yet, by late 1990, there had been no decrease in the rate of logging to accommodate the
owl (Abate 8).
As early as 1971, biologists had warned the Forest Service and the timber industry that old growth
logging could endanger the spotted owl, which is a slow breeder. Studies have shown that the spotted
owl s major prey, the red tree vole and the Northern flying squirrel, thrive in the environment of the
protective old growth forest and that when the forest that an owl lives in is logged, it will travel
hundreds of miles to feed in distant ancient forests. As each acre of ancient trees falls, the

Should Gun Control Be Banned
Gun Control Essay
Gun control is a very hot and controversial topic in the U.S that has been around for years. Some of
the population thinks that it shouldn t be a thing, while the other half strongly disagrees. However, gun
control is essential to a progressive and peaceful country. Adults and gun owners should take stricter
actions to ban high capacity and automatic rifles, support common sense gun control (such as
background checks and making sure the mentally ill don t obtain them), and make sure civilians
(including hunters) don t own military grade firearms. High capacity rifles should be banned because

loophole for many felons to get away with illegal crimes. Without them, up to 40% of all gun sales are
undocumented private party sales that do not require a background check. Additionally, 90% of adults
approve of laws to prevent the mentally ill from purchasing a gun. Most of the time these people are in
need of special care and have no business owning a gun. They are a danger to themselves and lack the
judgement to determine what is right and wrong. Common sense gun control laws would protect us all
from thoughtless and harmful criminals from killing people and committing illegal crimes. They
would also protect us from meaningless and senseless people from injuring

Ronaldo s Acceptance Of Goods By Benjamin
5. Ronaldo s acceptance of goods by Benjamin
Here arises the issue of whether Benjamin had the authority to sale the cargo to Ronaldo. It can be
claimed that there are two opinions on this subject.
On the one hand Benjamin never became lawful holder of the shipment under s.19(3) of SOGA 1979
and as a result he had no right on the goods property. This fact and in combination with s.21(1) gives
no property to Ronaldo.
On the other hand Ronaldo can rely on s.25(1), as Benjamin did not notice him regarding his previous
transaction with Maurice. Benjamin got the cargo from Maurice in good faith33, which also happened
with Ronaldo receiving the same Bill of Lading from Benjamin in line with the definitions given in
s.2(1) s.2(4), paying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, if we take the view that property had not passed to Benjamin, then s.39(2) also gives
Maurice the right of stoppage of the goods as s.41(c) s.44 confirm that the unpaid seller Maurice has
exercisable rights on the goods. However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin had already sold
the cargo to Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the re sale, then no such
issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two parties which means
that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against him , but now a third person has the title
of the goods and has nothing to do with the conflict between Benjamin and Maurice since he acted in
good faith. Accordingly, under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo
lawfully obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of his statement s.47(2)(a) also provides
that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the consignment.
To sum up, since the action against Benjamin was effected after Ronaldo had acquired the title of the
goods, Maurice had no right on the cargo.
8. Stoppage in transit Letter of indemnity Non delivery of the goods
According to the definition of the transit period in s. 45(1) SOGA 1979, the goods were in transitu
when the transactions between the involved parties took place.

Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism
Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the
world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with
such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators
are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you
feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length
commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. Motivation of volunteer
vacationers is rarely to accumulate career building credentials or academic credits and kudos. In fact,
many voluntourists deliberately select a project about which they are unapologetically without skill so
they can learn something new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though some advocates would prefer to ignore the tourism part of the word, it is key to the definition
because it helps to define the scope and the expectations of what is offered and what is received. With
rare exception, voluntourists pay their own expenses including a built in contribution to the project for
which they sign up. If the experience is positive, they also tend to donate more to the project once they
have made a connection and sometimes even raise funds for it once they get back

Although Brian hoped he would be rescued, his loneliness made him question and when someone
would come to the rescue. This was probably one of the scariest moments in his life because he had
survived a deadly plane crash. Now he thinks they will Probably come in here with amphibious
planes, small bushplanes with floats that could land right here on the lake and pick him up and take
him home (par.4). Furthermore, Brian is now on his own in the forest trying to survive while he waits

The Destruction Of Jerusalem And The Temple
Point #2 The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in A.D. 70 fulfills Christ s prophecy of perilous
times.
13:
With v. 15 we come to a critical juncture in the discourse. To this point Jesus has referred to general
signs that would characterize the period preceding Israel s collapse. Here in v. 15, though, he refers to
one sign that unmistakably signals that the prophesied destruction is at hand. It would serve to alert
the people of that generation as to the proximity of Jerusalem s ruin. In response to the question,
When will these things be? Jesus now answers When you see . . . (v. 15).
Abomination of Desolation is literally, the abomination that causes desolation. In the OT, abomination
= an object of disgust, hatred, something that causes revulsion; an idolatrous offense or affront to the
true worship of God.
The Abomination of Desolation is referred to 4x in Daniel 8:13; 9:27; 11:31; 12:11. The first and
immediate reference was to the Syrian king Antiochus who ruled over Palestine in 175 65 b.c. He
called himself Theos Epiphanes ( manifest God ) but his enemies called him Epimanes ( madman; the
insane one ).
In 168 b.c. Antiochus Epiphanes slaughtered 40,000 Jews and plundered the temple. He sacrificed a
pig on the altar of burnt offering, sprinkled broth from the unclean flesh all over the holy grounds as
an act of deliberate defilement. He then erected an image of Zeus above the altar. It was a sacrilege of
indescribable proportions indelibly imprinted

  • 2. Comparison of Character and Voice Discuss the ways in which the poets present character and voice in; Medusa and Les Grands Seigneurs The two poems; Medusa and Les Grands Seigneurs (LGS) have their similarities and differences. The most obvious being both speakers are women and how they subdue men. However, the most apparent difference is the way both poets present character, with Medusa and her jealousy and mistrust towards her partner; ...a doubt, a jealously . The standards of a woman are lowered; she is bitter, vicious and twisted. Having snakes for hair and revealing the monster she has become, whereas in LGS the dominance and prowess of the woman is expressed, men desperate for her attention; my hurdy gurdy monkey men . Almost as if she has the men on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of this here is to symbolise the sexual meaning in butt which carries a double meaning, men were her support, allowing the voice of the poem to have a joke. Remaining with my buttresses the use of my is a possessive pronoun, once again reinforcing her superiority. In verse two the bowers is a reference to a shady or leafy recess where lovers might go, however the courtesan could not marry as she was out of reach , once again augmenting the semantic field. Continuing with the first stanza LGS much like Medusa uses pleasant images, albeit they are sexual puns; peacocks and cockatoos . Here the voice is suggesting men are birds, that they show off their colours (peacocks) or their feathers stand up (cockatoos). Both poems present voice in the form of a 1st person narrative, allowing the reader to see the point of view (opinions and thoughts) of the narrator. The poem Medusa calls out directly to the you , the lover; and here you come . LGS on the other hand speaks out to the men and their desperation, how they are shallow creatures; men were my dolphins . One thing the poems have in common is found in the first word of the first verse, LGS uses; men and Medusa uses a suspicion . The effect of this is that the poems straight into the subject, with Duffy s use of suspicion inferring that the speaker is paranoid. The Psychological Effects Of Smoking One thing that smoking affects that a lot of people do not think about is how it affects the people around the smoker, not only in a physical way but emotionally also. According to a study, kids whose parents smoke are three times more likely to smoke when they get older. If smokers have kids, smoking around them increases their risk of having ear infections, asthma and other breathing problems that include coughs, shortness of breath, and even bronchitis. It s not just children that are at risk of lung and heart problems, it s every person around a smoker that are put at risk due to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals. Hundreds of them being toxic and 70 have shown to cause cancer in humans. Breathing in secondhand smoke has been shown to have instant effects on the cardiovascular system of nearby individuals, whether it s from a neighbor s burning cigarette or from a cigarette outside your window. Over time, it takes a toll on people s lungs and has been found to increase the risk of having a stroke by 20 30% (Quitterscircle). Smoking also has an impact on pets and animals. The body shapes, the face, the landscape seen from the window and the objects in the room have been broken down into abstracted forms and appear in two dimensional. The artist (Marc Chagall) applied dark and sober colours on the arms, main body, legs and on the face which help to create the volume of muscles and protrude the facial features. In the painting, Marc Chagall also applied the principle of contrast. The colour tone of the whole painting is low keyed, appearing a dim environment. A short term compensatory response for respiratory acidosis might include an immediate slight increase in bicarbonate levels. Another example of compensation would be hyperventilation as a response to metabolic acidosis. The compensatory response for respiratory alkalosis is a fall in the bicarbonate level in chronic respiratory alkalosis this is achieved through renal excretion over time, while in an acute state, lower levels of CO2 produce a slight decrease of HCO3 . The compensatory response for metabolic alkalosis is hypoventilation. If all three values are abnormal, the patient is in a partially compensated state because the buffer is actively working to push the equation to equilibrium to obtain a normal pH value. If the pH is normal and the CO2 and HCO3 are both abnormal, the patient is in a fully compensated state. In 1958 (Moore, Hatada, Dominos) it was found that when consumed by humans, N N Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), causes visuals that make up of colorful, luminous, rapid changing visual illusions and hallucinations. Ingestion of a psychedelic drugs such as DMT influences the cortex, optic lobes, and thalamus, as well as effecting sleep. A possible explanation for visual hallucination while under the influence of Dimethyltryptamine was presented by a research conducted in 1979. In mammals, such as cats, N N Dimethlytrptamine was studied with respect to the visual system. It was found that DMT caused a deceased amplitude response evoked by the stimulation of the optic chiasm. The depression of electrically evoked potentials in the visual system are DMT dose dependent. The inhibition of the induced potential was recorded at the lateral geniculate nucleus and at the visual cortex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mice that were administered DMT experience a reduced serotonin release in the prefrontal cortex via the 5HT 1A receptor. Another revelation observed was the reduction of low frequency cortical oscillations in somatosensory, auditory, and visual in wildtype mice. • 9. Leadership Style Of Leadership Styles Essay Most individuals probably feel as if they know enough about leadership to speak on the subject. In many cases, however, this is not truly the case at all. Leadership is a broad concept, and there are several different styles and approaches to consider when studying the topic. It is important to consider these styles and approaches when evaluating the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of any particular form of leadership. With that in mind, this essay will consider the leadership styles of two leaders who are involved in the current presidential election process. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, and Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee each utilize different leadership styles, though, the two operate within the same professional arena. That said, the two candidates share the same battle of being outsider candidates struggling to gain notoriety and momentum from a portion of the voting population no longer willing to support mainstream political candidates. This essay begins with a theoretical discussion of leadership and then focuses on the two political leaders, comparing and contrasting each one. This will allow for conclusions to be drawn about how they both work within the same public sphere, while employing different styles to earn votes. Leadership, according to John Kotter, is about coping with change (Kotter, 1990, p. 4). By this definition, leadership can be considered the product of change and the different ways that response to this change directs future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The report has some interesting and detailed information on contributing factors on children poverty. The first contributor I will discuss is emotional and social issues for poor children. These problems include impulsive behaviors, lack of social skills, anxiety, depression and low self esteem. These problems make it difficult for future success in school or work as they grow. (UNICEF) Emotional children may begin to feel helpless and start to separate from the crowd to avoid embarrassment. As is self evident from the prefixes (bi and multi ), bilingualism and multilingualism phenomena are devoted to the study of production, processing, and comprehension of two or more languages, respectively. Bilingualism is a specific case of multilingualism, which has no ceiling on the number of languages a speaker may dominate. The timing and sequence in which one learns each of the languages has led to other distinctions between kinds of multilingualism. Much of the linguistics literature, for example, identifies native language or mother tongue as a first language, ignoring the possibility or diminishing the value of having more than one native language or mother tongue. Such a person is often referred to as a simultaneous bilingual, while someone who acquires the second language after the first one is often referred to as a sequential bilingual ( early if between early childhood and puberty, and late if after puberty). The context of language acquisition leads naturally to distinguishing between informal bilinguals, who acquire their languages outside of formal settings like schools, imitating the natural processes of acquiring the mother tongue, and formal bilinguals, who generally learn the language in schools or similar settings. When these terms apply to groups, one speaks of bilingual or multilingual communities or nations. The aggregate enumeration of the speakers in these groups (also referred to as language diversity or demography) will often profile the number of monolingual and bilingual speakers of each language. For example, there may be a multilingual community in which speakers are monolingual in each of three languages. This would be rare, and the language groups would probably be isolated from each other. More often than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marvel Studios at the time was still not exactly sure where they were going and how Bruce Banner would play into the future of the MCU. However, this movie is not Marvel s best work. Edward Norton was mediocre, there is no denying that Mark Ruffalo is a much better, well rounded Bruce Banner. The climax is a bit of a yawn, but the action scenes are decent. I could care less for the Bruce/Betty dynamic, plus Betty was kind of a nuisance who got in the way. The CGI was cringeworthy, the Hulk looks borderline cartoonish. People could identify themselves as something small, like the town they are from or the school they attend. Or they could identify as a bigger group of people like their religious beliefs and nationality. This paper will look at Frankenstein as a Bildungsroman and the way that people in Europe during the nineteenth century could gain knowledge and a view of self awareness and how people gain knowledge today. One thing that is fascinating is that the nameless monster in the book is actually the Frankenstein that people tend to think of, with the big square green head, whereas, his creator s last name is actually Frankenstein. The Rhetorical Analysis Of The Hope Speech By Harvey Milk Homosexual people have been misrepresented and refuted their basic civil rights in America over the years, especially during the late 1970s. During this time, Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, was one of the most prominent spokesman on the issues surrounding gay rights. In 1978 he gave a speech impacting the gay citizens of San Francisco and America, the anti gay right wing movement supporters, straight allies of the gay movement, and politicians in general. His speech known as the Hope Speech resonates with people even today as Milk attempted to address gay rights and the importance of electing gay officials in office, using various rhetorical strategies such as pathos, logos, and elevated diction. As a skilled speaker, Milk bridged the gap between the majority of his audience who were not too familiar with homosexuality and those who were. In his speech he uses pathos to persuade people to join or at least sympathize with his cause, logos to provide a logistical argument with reason, and ethos to increase credibility. Throughout the speech Milk uses pathos to connect emotionally to the different audiences he is addressing. To his straight allies, he proclaims that an ally can not be elected to represent gays because friends can t feel the anger and frustration. They can sense it in us, but they can t feel it. Because a friend has never gone through what is known as coming out. This topic also strikes a chord in his gay audience, as coming out is a difficult and terrifying process. He addresses other minority groups, asking indirectly for their sympathy and assistance, alluding to the African American civil rights movement of the sixties, and the Latin American culture s struggles. He references Anita Bryant, an outspoken right wing activist, and tells his audiences not to fear her or believe her, for she is wrong in her assumptions about gay people. He also talks of the event in San Francisco where a young man was killed for being gay, causing the audience to sympathize and also create a sense of urgency for people to make a change. This is cause by media such as internet and TV because they create comparisons by influencing in an individual s viewpoints of society and setting ideals. Mother s roles in society are and have been watched at as responsible for the development of their children. If these requirements are not fit by mothers they are looked negatively upon society. Room is an independent drama feminist film based on Emma Donoghue novel and is directed by Lenny Abramson in 2015 that changes society s ideals of women as mothers. The film narrates Ma s story of being captive in a room that only have skylight, four walls, a bed, a tub, and a TV with poor signal with her son Jack, a child of rape. After seven years, Jack being five, they are able to escape and Ma s readjustment to society story begin. Through specific choices in cinematography, Abramson creates a feminist film that contradict the ideals of mothers in film and plays with Ma s strength making her a strong mother while being captive in room and transforming her into a weak mother when she readjust to society. Strength, sacrifice and love is an embodiment of mother. She should always know how much she is worth and shouldn t let anyone define who she is. A mother s feminine power is very powerful and at the same time supportive. Till their last breath, they will love their child unconditionally. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, you lose your spot in the playoff to another team that was undefeated. How would this make you feel? The BCS should be replaced with a playoff system in College Football. Replacing the BCS with a playoff system would give each of the eleven conferences (and the FBS Independents) an equal opportunity to compete for the national championship. Most teams are left out of the BCS due to 1 loss, even though they might ve had a great season. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who stepped up and was able to restore the morale of France during this era, after the French throne was taken over by the English. She dressed as a man and took on roles that were dominantly held by men. Even when she knew she would be punished by death for her behaviors she refused to change her ways. Joan of Arc was unlike any other women of the time and refused to be oppressed. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in Lorraine to French peasants. As a young girl Joan of Arc was often found doing housework or tending to her father s flock. She was a very kind hearted girl and would often put those in need before herself. Those who knew her described her as a devout Christian. A man once said I have heard it said by Messire Guillaume Front, formerly the parish priest, that Joan was a good Catholic, that he had never met a better and had non better in his parish (Pernoud 18). This faithfulness to the church leads to Joan of Arc announcing her call from God that Charles VII is the rightful heir to the french throne. France was in need of morale boost and Joan of Arc gave them that. France would be under the control of Henry V when Charles VII died, therefore disinheriting Charles VI s son, Charles VII. While we read newspapers daily without noticing the skeletal framework that orders the headlines, photography, graphics, text and other stylistic elements of a page (Bivins Ryan, 1995). An example could be when we raise our glasses to toast; we do not realize that stems are designed to keep our hands from warming the wine. A good design is like it exists, but does not call for attention to itself. Henry VIII s Reformation Essay Henry VIII s Reformation In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there was a vast anti clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with the masses. However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics. Henry needed a male heir and therefore needed a divorce. In the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of sexual misconduct for the whole year. This is a low figure, which proves that the deficiencies of the clergy have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn t have a problem with the incidents and therefore didn t report them. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti clericalism and not the other way round. Many laypeople did see the clergy, as greedy and excessive, people were growing discontented with hypocritical clergy such as Wolsey. Management of Old growth Forests in the Pacific Northwest When westward expansion brought settlers to the Northwest in the 1800s, they discovered that coniferous trees forty feet in circumference [that] shot two hundred feet straight up flourished in the forests of the Pacific coast (Ervin 55). These early pioneers found the opportunity for economic growth in logging these vast forests of towering trees unlike any they had seen before. This listing came on the heels of years of extensive studies of the spotted owl and its habitat conducted by environmental groups, the timber industry, and governmental researchers. These studies resulted in recommendations, such as the one made in early 1990 by a committee headed by the U.S. Forest Service s chief, Jack Ward Thomas, calling for 30 40 percent of public forests to be exempted from logging to protect the remaining 3000 6000 owl pairs in the Northwest. However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin had already sold the cargo to Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the re sale, then no such issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two parties which means that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against him , but now a third person has the title of the goods and has nothing to do with the conflict between Benjamin and Maurice since he acted in good faith. Accordingly, under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo lawfully obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of his statement s.47(2)(a) also provides that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the consignment.
