A concrete network of canals was designed to bring water from the lake area to surrounding
farmland in the dry season. Florida was becoming a booming area and more people came and more

Decision making is an act that every individual practices as part of daily life, both in their
professional and personal interactions. Decision making is traditionally recognised as being
comprised of two parts; the emotional and the rational. Emotion is an experience that affects
individuals to varying degrees and is vital to human survival. For example if humans

questions our lessons ask today. And these are the questions, we as Concordia Lutheran Church,
have been asking and continue to ask. Our scripture today, not only ask the questions, but
answers them, too. And we, as Concordia, can gain insight, excitement, and hope from the
answers. My first few days with you, I was not here in Superior, I was at Heartwood Conference
Center and Retreat in Trego attending the Fall Conference of our Northwest Synod of Wisconsin.
I was able to meet many of the pastors from our synod. Thank you for giving me that opportunity.
Our main speaker for the conference was Bishop Dick Graham, the bishop for Washington D.C.
As we talked about priorities for congregations, synods, and our denomination, he focused on two
Caring for the Poor and Making Disciples. That s what we are to be about as a church. And that s
exactly what our lessons for today talk about. Our Old TestamentText from Amos speaks judgment
against those not caring for the poor. Not caring for the poor is not something new. As we read
the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), we constantly hear God calling the Israelites to care
for the poor and judgment when they do not. Overall, I think congregations and our ELCA do a
pretty good job with caring for the poor. Yet there are always ways to do more and ways to change
the system that often hurts

The Negativity Of The American Education System
The Negativity of the American Education System The American Education System is not meeting
the needs of current students. If anything, the system is not building a sturdy foundation for the
future working class. Schools have existed for many years and every period they have worked
differently. However, every schools main purpose was to educate students to be efficacious later in
life. Modern day schools are corrupting students with added pressure, standardized tests, making
less accommodations for special educationstudents, not following laws, and take away
individualism from the students . The students of modern times are the people of our future and
the future does not look too bright with the current American Education System. On the other
hand, there is an argument that the education system provides positive qualities. Some students
are actually improving in the classroom and on standardized tests. In her book, Christina
Fisanick found that In Wisconsin, 87 percent of third graders were reading at grade level or
above. This number was an all time high, and a 13 percent increase over 2002 scores (Fisanick,
17). Success for all is one of many purposes that come from the educational system. An education
reform named No Child Left Behind signed in January of 2002 was to make sure all students
were given the chance to improve. In other words, this act made educators work even harder to
make sure all students were moving on and that no child was being left

The OECD report Teachers Matter identifies that teachers have a huge demand on them by
schools to deal effectively with different languages, different students backgrounds, to be
extremely sensitive of gender and culture, to promote tolerance and social cohesion and to
respond efficiently to disadvantaged children (OECD, 2005). Also with the presence of the
number of children with SEN in classrooms, it is very important that teachers are prepared to
teach all children regardless of their learning needs, intellectual, emotional, behavioural and social
and physical capabilities (Cardona, 2009). Teachers therefore need confidence in their ability to
deal with these demands and be set to deal with them in the present school climate (De Boer et al,
2010).
Marin (2014) discusses the issue of inclusion and how important it has become in today s education
system. Her study focuses on whether teachers are generally prepared to deal with students with
SEN in mainstream schools, the advantages and disadvantages of inclusion in schools, and
whether teachers need any additional training in the field of special education to respond to the
needs of SEN children. Her report found (using a quantitative approach for her investigation) that
66.2% of teacher s from the research had encountered students with SEN. This is a significantly
high number and suggests that teachers have to be prepared to deal with, and respond to those kid
s needs, and diversity in the classroom.

Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise
up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires
fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them
were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John
Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great
European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the
British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular
empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the
people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to

Thomas Tweed in his article Space claims that there is a deeper connection between space and
religion than meets the ordinary eye. The article examines how Christianity, Islam, and Judaism
describe, imaginatively figure, and construct Jerusalem as a religious space. According to Tweed,
space, in a religious context, is defined by three different and distinguishable characteristics:
differentiated, kinetic, and interrelated. As revealed throughout many of the books in the Hebrew

When I tell people I am from Phoenix, Arizona, they look at me funny and ask, What are you
doing in Connecticut? My response is always the same, I m on the UConn women s basketball
team. Sport has played a large role in my life and has definitely impacted me. My parents were
key factors that helped me get to where I am now. Both of my parents were college athletes. My
father played basketballat Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Before that, he was an
all state basketball player, tennis player and pitched for his high schoolbaseball team. My mother

The Conflict Between Waverly And Her Mother
However, the conflict between Waverly and her mother is very realistic, due to the nature that many
mothers and daughters have different views which causes disagreements. The people of Chinese
descent have their Chinese heritage, but struggle to keep true to their traditions while living around
American culture. The major conflict in the story, the clash of different cultures, leads to the
weakening of the relationship between the two characters. For example, when Waverly reenters the
apartment after running away, she sees the remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to
bones swimming upstream in vain escape (Tan 508). Waverly sees herself as the fish, stripped clean
by her mother s power, unable to break free. Through the major conflict, the characters struggle to
keep their relationship healthy and loving. Tan explains the feelings of Waverly through an
