Would You Eat Lunch With Walter Mitty Essay Walter Mitty is a character in the book the
secret life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber. He is a dull person and is always daydreaming
about something. Of course he is not real but if was and he invited me to eat dinner with him I
would have no kindly say no. I wouldn t want to be a jerk but he is not the type of person that
you would want to eat lunch with. So I will explain all of the reasons on why I would not eat

Greek Art and Architecture Essays

The Palace of Knossos, a Minoan mud brick and timber structure on a shallow stone foundation,
featuring a central courtyard, was constructed on an acropolis. It was a place for rulers to reside,
shrines for religious ceremonies to be worshipped, the industrial production of objects, and
administrative duties. Ample hallways, stairways, chambers, and light wells supplemented the
ambitiously built structure. There were plenty of columns to mark he four awe inspiring entrance
passages.
Four wings, oriented in a north south direction, surrounded the central courtyard. The east wing
featured the residential spaces, a workshop, and a shrine, while the west wing was complete ... Show

Unlike the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the Citadel of Mycenae was heavily fortified and featured
many entrances. It s famous gate, The Lion Gate, is known for its keystone depicting two of the
animal. Though the columns appear Minoan in style, this is a Mycenaean innovation featuring the
first example of monumental sculpture in Greek art. This post and lintel limestone entrance is over
9 6 tall.
Also Mycenaean, the Beehive Tomb at the Treasury of Atreus, complete with corbelling, and post
and lintel entranceway, and a long walkway. The Treasury of Atreus is a well preserved tholos tomb
with a round, corbelled interior roof, cushioned capital columns, and a small chamber. This
monument was once highly decorated with paint and sculpture, though this can no longer be seen.
A mask, once thought to depict the face of Agamemnon, though now a disproved theory, was
found at the royal tombs of Mycenae. It is the likeness of a man and was used as a burial mask
with a less stylized beard and mustache.
Mycenae was full of war and turmoil. A vase, c.1300 100 bc, was dubbed The Warrior Vase for
its scene of women bidding farewell to the warrior men. Such a solemn feel seems to typify these
times. Other signs of unrest include dagger blades with gold and silver inlay on bronze,

Dynamic Characters In Things Fall Apart
The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.
These are the words of Socrates on change and the human energy it may take to embrace it. One
culture that experienced significant change was the Ibo culture and its people. The novel Things
Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, clearly demonstrates the changes that took place in the Ibo culture
to a Western audience. By following the life of many dynamic characters throughout the story,
Achebe is able show the reader what the Ibo culture entails. Characters play a dominating role in
Chinua Achebe s novel by displaying how one must change in order to survive in the evolving
world. One of the most dynamic characters in Achebe s novel is Okonkwos son, Nwoye. From the
beginning of the novel, Nwoye is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Biological Processes Of Obesity
Obesity can develop when the cumulative energy intake exceeds energy expenditure, when this
happens the excess is stored primarily as fat in adipose tissues. The biological processes that
regulate the energy balance are highly regulated and this mechanism can be overwhelmed, because
of a need to eat when not hungry, if attractive high calorie food is presented in attractive settings,
and if individuals are regularly non mobile for extended periods. The control pathways that include
short term signaling of hunger and engorgement to the central nervous system with the hormones
that come from the gastrointestinal tract, long term signaling of energy stores to the brain via leptin
and insulin, as well as the control of metabolism. Rare genetic syndromes also play a role and
these present in early childhood with severe obesity these include mutations in the pro
opiomelanocortin gene and deficiencies in the leptin this demonstrates that the pathways are
biologically important in humans. Most obesity cases develop because of modern lifestyles in
genetically susceptible individuals. The changes include excessive consumption of high energy
food in tandem with low levels of physical activity and that in many societies; less affluent people
have a higher incidence (Lee et al 2013). Other causes of obesity that are considered include some
drugs that can cause an increase in appetiteand structural damage to areas of the nervous system
that control appetite. Though men and women are

`` Brave New World `` By Aldous Huxley
John the Savage is the only person in this new world society born naturally from a mother and
not from a factory, John is a unique human being with an identity and a family relationship
unlike any other character in Aldous Huxley s novel, Brave New World . Even though he is the
son of two upper class utopians, he grows up in the depths of Malpais: The Savage Reservation.
Torn between two cultures, John is not truly a part of the savage society or of the new world
society. His only society is an imaginative world built around Shakespeare s books. John is the
ultimate outsider and his life is filled with confusion and struggle.
Although he does not appear until chapter seven of Brave New World , John is the protagonist of
the story and the symbol of the old world society. The outer appearance of John can reveal the
struggle within him. He may be dressed like a savage, but his light colored skin, blonde hair, and
blue eyes betray his origin. He was born on the Savage Reservation to Linda, a Beta minus who
had lived in the new world society before being abandoned on the reservation by the Director of
Hatcheries and Conditioning (The D.H.C.). The Director does not even know of his existence
until John later appears in London as an adult. His life on the reservation is miserable, because he
is not accepted by the other savages and cannot understand the lifestyle that his mother lives. As a
result, he is isolated and desires for something and somewhere to belong to.

Pablo Picasso s Boy With A Pipe
Growing up I was infatuated with art, I love the creativity that a person could bring to any piece
of work. While looking through many paintings, I came across one that caught not only my eye,
but many others. The name of this Painting is Boy with a Pipe, created by one of the greatest artist
in the world, Pablo Picasso. This representational paintingwas created in the year of 1905 when
Picasso was 24 years old (Daluwatta). This Painting is representational because, the oil that is on
the canvas depicts a young white Persian boy who is holding a pipe in his left hand and also
wearing some type of headband of flowers around his head. Picasso lived in Le Bateau Lavoir in
Montmartre when he created this mister piece. Picasso called the young white boy Little Louise, he
had spent much time in the studio while he was creating this painting. (Lu). There are many people
that say that the boy who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

being used besides the pipe and a head band of flowers. The Pipe, which is a symbol for the
intellectual also relating in nineteenth and twentieth century type of painting. It looks like its
being held by the artist outside the painting as he wonder about the image, although it s held by
the model inside the painting. It is believed that Picasso is imagining his own alter ego while
holding his own pipe and that the boy is a reflection of Picasso (Chipp). In my opinion this work

century mood and everyone would be attracted by

Purchasing and Implementing a Student Management System at...
Jefferson County School System (JCSS) is one of the largest school systems in the US. It provides
education for about 10,000 students and consists of fourteen elementary schools, two middle
schools, and two high schools. In 1976, the school system purchased and implemented the DEC
PDP 11/34 computer that helped to develop the student management applications, financial
applications, and other student management applications. Today, the JCSS owns four Dell servers
running on UNIX and everything is connected via a high speed TCP/IP network. All the
applications were developed by David Meyer, a director of data processing, and his two
programmers. Once the current JCSS superintended of school retired, Dr. Harvey Greene was

On the other hand, building own system can lead to very long and costly process, requires
management commitment, and does not account for evolving requirements (Brown at al., 2012).
As was learned from the case, JCSS went with purchasing decision which provides several
advantages, such as quicker implementation with almost the same functionality than a custom
developed solution by David Mayer. Although, it has one major disadvantage such as the JCSS
became more depended on DSI that could go out of business.
Personally, I noticed that Carol Andrews had a great start with going through the definition phase of
the SDLC process that defines system needs, identifies potential vendors, and collects enough
information for further evaluation (Brown at al., 2012). Specifically, she started with thorough
feasibility that assessed economical, technical, and operational (Brown at al., 2012). Next, she
prepared requirements, such as accurate specifications about the system input and output, and
performance requirements. Everything was detailed. She created a list of packages and established
evaluation criteria. Once the RFP was written, it was distributed to various vendors. When
description of software and packages was submitted back by the vendors, the committee used the
point system to evaluate the vendors by functional capabilities, technical requirements, costs,
amount and quality of

What multiplied disadvantage is, is that men and women divided simply can t exist, and in society,
inclusion really matters. We see the tentacles of multiplied disadvantage in the nexus between
ethnicity and gender. Acts of violence inflicted on indigenous women follow on from such
intersecting prejudices. Research and empirical evidence show that successful prevention and
response to violence against women and girls are more sustainable if they form part of
comprehensive and multisectoral interventions. Attracting representation must be accompanied by
investments in research and data collection relevant monitoring and evaluation, respect for
indigenous peoples rights to self determination, the maintenance of their cultures, lands, territories

The blocks from Broadway to Green were too steep for electric cars to ascend and descend
unaided; the counterbalance solved the problem. Passengers would transfer from double truck
electric cars at the top of the hill to a single truck car attached to the cable by a plow. When the
car reached the bottom of the hill, it released the plow and ran on to Bay Street. The
counterbalance was the only United Railroads line which directly reached the 1915 Panama
Pacific Exposition, held at the Marina. The 19 Polk came within a block of the eastern entrance.
URR had all the single truck cars rebuilt as Pay as You Enter (PAYE) cars with multiple unit
(MU) capability. The cars ran as trains during the Exposition due to the heavy passenger loads.
After the URR had become the Market Street Railway, the line was extended to Marina
Boulevard on August 29, 1925. MSRy needed to store a weighted dummy car at the Turk and
Fillmore car house so there would be a counterbalance car for the last run of the night. A regular 22

Any positive impact that can be made on attrition will have a direct impact on profitability.
Retention/attrition may not be the bane of a particular industry, but a positive impact via proactive
strategies will most assuredly have a significant impact on profitability.
As competition increases, companies will be under pressure to curb costs and stretch every rupee.
In such situations, instead of companies focusing on business at hand and putting people issues on
the back burner, they should focus on retaining high performing employees and keeping them
motivated. The best companies consequently know that in all business climates taking measures to
retain valued employees saves money, preserves margins and leads to better business opportunities.
The business impact of good and bad attrition can be felt in both tangible and intangible ways.
According to few researchers the tangible aspects are: Loss of knowledge capital Delay in
execution of projects/assignments Loss of production Increasing cost of recruitment
On the intangible front it would result in: Impact on employer brand Burden and burnout on
existing employees Internal information and knowledge is being shared outside Existing team also

message that people can see a mystical being and their are explanations behind their citations
that prove the appearance they see are not real. Whether you believe in ghosts, or believe that
ghosts are fake, I will prove that ghosts are not real in The Turn of the Screw and how
informational texts contribute to these types of explanations. When events in life are happening
fast in life, this can trigger hallucinations. Barry Beyerstein stated in his article that, In trying to
make sense of any sudden, emotionally charged experience, we are all prone to embellish it in
ways that fit our philosophical preconceptions (Beyerstein 2). This quote basically states that no
matter that rapid change of events, our mind will try to come up with some sensory reasoning
behind it. These sensory reasonings are not always reliable because it just causes yourself to see
something that is not there adding to the chaos. In Turn of the Screw by Henry James, the
governess experience a similar situation. In the last sentence of the story the governess sees Peter

Investigating Factors That Affect The Police Of Policing...
2.1 Introduction
This chapter deals with a review of the literature on the topic of research to determine factors that
affect the effectiveness of the police in policing regarding race and corruption.
2.2 The problem exists in contemporary society
Many researches have raised concern over racism and police indulging in other criminal activities,
especially corruption the United Kingdom, but contemporary research has been more specific when
dealing with race matter, the scope has been so wide in that various scholars have found it
important to explore it more to fight its prevalence. The racism in the police is a not matter
which should be kept in secret; the prejudice is very visible in the public domain (Benson, 2010).
The police approach to an issue is purely biased, the way police officers approach to white people
is different from the way they tackle the same to a black person, minority ethnics and Asian
person (Weitzer, 2008). The society has been socialized in a manner that the level of prejudice
is used to define characters of a different race. These definitions in most cases amount to hatred
actions. The issue of concern is where to run for justice now that police are part of this society.
Due to this, many violence ends up unreported, In 2013/2014, the number of defendants who
were referred by the police to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision for racially
and racially aggravated crimes rose by 14.17% from the previous year to 12,184, and out of

Ethical Predestination
If God does elect and reserves a spot for those who get to receive salvation or condemnation
before time, then there is no such thing as free will amongst human beings. There is no free will
because God already chose who gets what, so there is no point in worshipping a God that might
condemn you. The primary source of this essay is Institutes of the Christian Religion, Book 3,
Chapters, 21 23 by Jean Calvin. In this essay I am going to prove that predestinationis not an
ethically acceptable doctrine to justify Gods actions. If there is a God, he is usually identified as a
powerful, all knowing, and never wrong entity that watches over all of humanity. God created
every living thing on Earth. So, God supposedly loves and cares for... Show more content on

wants to be rewarded for all the works they do. For example, a child does good deeds around the

I. Introduction
For about twenty years, East Asian countries were held up as economic idols. They were hailed as
the ideal models for strong economic growth of developing countries because of their high savings
and investment rates, autocratic political systems, export oriented business, restricted domestic
markets, government capital allocation, and controlled financial systems.
They were even stories about The East Asian Miracle because of the extraordinary growth rates they

industrial powerhouses. Western leaders were impressed by their ability to continue to achieve ...

Thais real estate business boomed, owning property and selling or leasing it for development
became one of the most popular businesses in their country. Rich Thai players entered into
collusion with local and foreign banks, mostly Japanese banks, to loan more money just to keep
on building. Because of overbuilding, they were no longer able to rent out most of their new office
and condo space. Prices dropped due to oversupply, so they couldn t get nearly as much money on
what they used to built those. When the bank loans became due, they couldn t pay. This also
became a contributing factor in the problem faced by Thailand during the Asian currency crisis.
They wern t able to weigh whether investments in buildings are worthwhile, they were reckless and
the only thing they though was the funds they were able to get for building those infrastructures.
Their foreign borrowing went to prestigious projects with no solid economic returns.
Another reason behind the 1997 Asian financial crisis was the large current account deficits. Asian
leaders agreed that large current account deficits could not be good, but they made the logical
economic argument that if a current account deficit mostly reflects higher investment, it would
eventually increase an economy s competitiveness and therefore its ability to repay the debt, and
would certainly be more sustainable than a deficit driven by

Essay on American Politics
Every two to four years, politicians aspire to demonstrate their competency for political office.
Political campaigns and organizations concentrate millions of dollars to undercut and outlast the
opposition. They drag names through the mud, as if it were the next step on the political corporate
ladder. The American people, caught in the middle, are torn between the need for elected officials
and the heartbreak of countless shattered oaths. Consequently, they dissociate themselves from
misused words like Democrat, Republican, and change. They have learned to bite their tongue,

centre. Amarna was essentially abandoned. General Horenheb, who was ther King s deputy and
Regent, took control of the political and military affairs from Memphis whilst Ay, the visier, stayed
with the king and his queen and took reponsibility for religious matters. Tutenkhamun moved
between Memphis and Thebes for political or religious reasons. Once the administration had been
moved out of Amarna, an extensive building program was undertaken to allow the recognition that
the old gods had been restored and a strong leadership was once again in place. (Welsh, 2007)
The Restoration stele, found in the Great Hypostyle Hall at Karnak, is described by Ian Shaw as the
most important document of Tutankhamun s reign. It paints a very dire image of the state of the
kingdom when Tutenkhamun inherited the throne. It states:
...the temples and the cities of the gods and goddesses, starting from Elephantine [ as far ] as the
delta marshes..., were fallen into decay and their shrines were fallen into ruin, having become mere

St. Paul s Missions Essay
Introduction/Thesis The Apostle Paul (formerly Saul) is responsible for the spread of
Christianity throughout the areas of Asia Minor and Greece. Through his 3 mission trips to the
region Paul created a base of support for the Christian faith and implemented a support strategy
for future growth. The time period for his journeys was 45 AD 58 AD. The story of Paul is
interesting from the perspective that the man best known as the author of most of the New
Testament started out as a devout Jew and despised the Christian faith. After his conversion he
made it his life s work to spread the Christian message throughout the world. To this end, Paul
made several mission trips to the area of Asia Minor and Greece. Background The Apostle Paul...

As Paul reflects on his escape he starts to understand the need for reliance on another power (as
in God) After this Paul goes to Jerusalem, meets Barnabas, and is introduced to the Apostles. Paul
stays here for 15 days; during that time he preaches the gospel to the people of Jerusalem. For
the second time, Paul is driven out of a city in fear of his life. According to Acts 22:17; Paul was
in the temple and fell into a trance. God warned him to leave the city. Paul escaped to Caesarea,
on to Cilicia Syria, then to his hometown of Tarsus. Paul s plan for evangelism led him to what
was considered the civilized world of the Roman Empire, leaving to others the centers of Judaism
Palestine, Alexandria, and Babylon. Paul s movement westward was from Antioch to Cilicia,
Galatia and Pamphylia, Asia Minor, Macedonia and Greece, Italy, and Spain. Paul s strategic
plan was to stretch churches and the gospel from Antioch throughout the entire region. Paul s
strategy was to take his teachings to the metropolis areas instead of the smaller cities and towns.
His thought was that his influence in these large areas would bring others that could carry on his
teachings into these regions. As past history shows, Paul s timeframe for teaching is limited due
to being driven out of the cities by force before his work was completed. There were 2 cities
where he was able to spend considerable time, Corinth and Ephesus. These cities were of utmost
importance to him and were

Gender Roles in Shakespeare Essay
It is a peculiar feature of Shakespeare s plays that they both participate in and
reflect the ideas of gender roles in Western society. To the extent that they reflect existing
notions about the proper roles of men and women, they can be said to be a product of
their society. However, since they have been studied, performed, and taught for five
hundred years, they may be seen as formative of contemporary notions about the
relationships between males, females, and power.
Derrida was right in asserting that quot;there is no outside to the text. quot; His claim is that every

Elizabethan society had a loosely determined set of normal behaviors that are frequently
linked to gender. Despite diffusion of these gender expectations in both time periods (see
Dollimore, Traub), there are definite behaviors that either lie within the constructs of gender or
exceed/transgress patterns accepted as conventional. Through the mechanisms of exaggeration or
transgression, Shakespeare s comedies focus attention on the matter of gender and derive comedy
from the situations created. Characters that are natural representations of their gender do not
contain the same possibilities for comedy.
Beatrice says quot;O, that I were a man quot; (Much Ado About Nothing, IV.i.303), implying in
context that her gender has made it impossible for her to act. Other female characters in
Shakespeare do take on male roles, and whether it is because their true identity is hidden or simply
by virtue of their acceptance as non female, they are able to function in the text in ways
that an undisguised female character could not. Rosalind/Ganymede instructs Orlando in the ways
of love. Viola/Cesario enters Orsino s house and, consequentially, his heart. Portia argues a case
at law; actually serving as a judge in a dispute involving her new husband s best friend. In
assuming a man s role, these women overcome the limitations to which Beatrice finds her sex
subjected.

Illegal Immigration Reform

the fight against terrorism. However, this law endangers democracy by creating an authoritarian
style of government. Moreover, the Patriots act signed by president W. Bush in 2001, this act is
an antiterrorist law enacted by congress as a response to the 911, terrorist attack. These policies
are very different from previous policies because they impact families drastically. In other words,
those policies contribute to the destruction of families. There are many ways to get deported for

Analysis Of John Updike s Araby
John Updike s penchant for appropriating great works of literature and giving them contemporary
restatement in his own fiction is abundantly documented as is the fact that, among his favorite
sources, James Joyce looms large.[1]
With special affinity for Dubliners, Updike has, by common acknowledgment, written at least one
short story that strongly resembles the acclaimed Araby, not only in plot and theme, but in
incidental detail. That story, the 1960 You ll Never Know, Dear, How Much I Love You like
Araby tells the tale of a poor, romantically infatuated young boy who, though obstructed by
parental slowness, journeys with innocent urgency, coins in hand, to a seemingly magical carnival

The self delusion in both cases leads quickly to an emotional fall.
At 19, Updike s protagonist, Sammy, is a good bit older than Joyce s at the opposite end of
adolescence, it would seem. While in Joyce s boy we readily believe such confusion between the
gallant and profane, I think we needn t assume that Sammy is likewise unable to distinguish
between the two quite normal impulses. His attraction to the girl in the aisle is certainly far more
anatomically and less ambiguously expressed than that of Joyce s boy to Mangan s sister. But it
is Beauty that confounds the issue. When human aesthetics come into play, when the object of a
young man s carnal desire also gratifies him aesthetically, that is when the confusion arises. in
Irish Catholic Dublin of the 1890s,[3] such youthful beauty not surprisingly invokes analogies
between Mangan s sister and the Queen of Heaven (though the swinging of her body and the soft
rope of her hair toss[ing] from side to side [Joyce 30]), which captivate the boy, hint at something
less spiritual than Madonna worship). And while beauty s benchmarks in Sammy s more secular
mid century America are more anatomical than spiritual, Updike does have Sammy call his young
femme fatal Queenie, and he does make her the center of a trinity of sorts, showing her two
friends at one point huddl[ing] against her for relief ( A P 189).
Once smitten, both young

Relationship Between the Muscular System and Its...
Each body part has a specific role within the community of the human body. When working
properly, each system is contributing to maintaining homeostasis as well. The purpose of this essay
is to discuss the relationship between the muscular system and how it contributes to the overall
health and balance of the body it is placed within. The essay will discuss the function of the
muscular system, the organization of the system and how it contributes to homeostasis. The
muscular system is the part of the body that assists with motor function and movement. There are
three types of muscles in the human body that are included within this system. Smooth muscles are
involuntary and are found inside organs such as the stomach and throat. Skeletal muscles are
voluntary and are located everywhere throughout the body. The third type of muscles are cardiac
muscles that are involuntary and keep your heart beating. While most people associate muscles
with strength, they do more than assist in lifting heavy objects. The 650 muscles in the body not
only support movement controlling walking, talking, sitting, standing, eating and other daily
functions that we consciously perform. Muscles also help to maintain posture and circulate blood
and other substances throughout the body, among other functions. Muscles can also be identified
by their function. The flexor group of the forearm flexes the wrist and the fingers. The supinator is
a muscle that supinates the wrist by rolling it over to

I will be asserting, in this argument, through the quotes and actions of Neo and Agent Smith as well
as underlying themes and philosophies throughout the trilogy that, despite what was clearly and

Similarities Between Abigail Williams And John Proctor

American Literature

(Creative Title) What would your impression be if your husband had an affair with your old

getting witchcraft accusations and the tension by one another. These fears are consistently because
they have angry towards one another. Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, illustrates the historical
events of the Salem witch trials which took in Salem, Massachusetts around 1692.

The definition of foil is a character whose characteristics oppose another character. Like Abigail
Williams, John Proctor goes through a primary adventure during the play. However, their paths
go in complete reversed routes. Proctor goes from guilt to a place of truth. At the end of act
four, he finds his goodness by getting hanged for telling the truth. While Abigail is jealous,
manipulative, and a liar who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because
she can no longer have what she wants. This connects to my life about how John Proctor is a
brave man and would do anything for his family. When I think the roles of a dad, what comes to
mind is a provider, protector, knowledgeable, and a role model. This explains perfectly who my
dad was. Let s say when I was ten years I went into the ocean and a shark had bitten me, my dad
is the type of person who would come into the ocean, knowing the shark is there, to rescue me and
bring me to health. When I m sick, he gets me medicine and takes me to a doctor. I don t think
another person had more of a significant influence on me more than my father.
Abigail and John in some shape or form came to the same reason. They both wanted to stay away
from arguing. They both care highly about their standing in the society. John cared about his name
and family life while Abigail cared about love and not wanting to go to jail.

Analysis Of Fight Club And The Girl With The Dragon
How David Fincher uses colour in the film Fight Club and how this is used to influence the viewer.
Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions
as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to
expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. The Director of Fight club and other
films such as Se7en and the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, David Fincher is very well known for
working closely with the cinematographer and his post production team to tightly control the colour
in his films and being quite innovative in his techniques to achieve better quality of colour and

David Fincher, the director of Fight Club is well known for the certain look of his films as he

and dank but colourful at the same time. As a usual template it seems he de saturates the picture
then depending on the mood of the scene he warms up or cools off the image often times he uses
blue in the shadows to add depth and to retain the crisp blackness and teal to the highlights this
shows a strong understanding of how colours work together.

Copland was one of the most well known American composers of the 20th century if not the most

Ethics In The Crucible
In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic
ethics. Two big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John
Calvin. From them came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite
side of thought, the idea that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works
that we read all take these ideas into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics
between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter
all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the idea that what God says must be done
regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a sermon by Rev.
Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to sinners, in this case the Puritans
of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a fearful and powerful way
unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to back up his sermon by
opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then goes on to say that
the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it is theological
ethics because he says that the verse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, it explores the idea that in war, people are actually killing their
brothers. This theme is portrayed through the use of irony and imagery. Initially, the author uses
death imagery to emphasize the scene of the story, with the machine gunner s head hanging
lifelessly over the turret. The woman s corpse lay still in the gutter. This quote gives the reader a
visualization of the street in the story where everything is lifeless, silent and depressing. The
significance of the quote is that due to warthe sniper had to kill the woman and the man, and did so
without having a feeling of remorse, and sadness while killing them or upon seeing they re dead
bodies lie lifelessly on the street. In addition, these people

The Power Of The House Of Representatives
Congratulations on being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. I believe you should be
very familiar with the Texas Legislature as you have served as a member of the Texas Legislature
for eight years. However, the U.S. Legislature in Washington D.C. is very different from the Texas
Legislature while having some similarities. I would like to list some of the similarities and
differences between these two legislaturesto help you in the transition as the Congress has changed
overtime and thus, to help develop your Home Style. The modern Congress is a reformed
Congress (Shaw, 2015:2). The power of the House of Representative was held in the hand of the
Speaker in the early 1900s. However, a resolution was introduced by George Norris after leading
the progressive Republicans and Democrats into a revolt against Joe Cannon, the Speaker, in
1910. The power was moved to the hands of the committee chairs, which were determined by
seniority, after the revolt. (Shaw, 2015:3). The seniority system was challenged in the 1950s and
1960s. As a result, a greater role was placed on the Speaker of the House and the majority party on
determining the assignment of the committee chairs. Moreover, the sub committees had also
become more important in the legislature. Later in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the wages of
the Congress members and the number of staff had increased as a result of becoming more
professionalized . The franking privilege, the privilege of sending certain matter

The Final Stage Of Management Design
Control is the final stage of management design, making sure the specific goals and objectives
of the team is met by all those who are placed within the organization to complete specific task. It
is at this stage that all members must perform the work that is within the organizations scope of
business. Controls can be strong and visible, such as are needed in a maximum security prison, or
they can be more relaxed and invisible, such as are needed in a group of volunteers working at the
local food bank. The four steps in the process of control in the Mainstream and Multistream
managerial processes according to Nuebert Dyck 2010 are Establishing Performance Standards,

This process is helpful in identifying needed changes in the input and conversion stage to maintain
quality products Mainstream managers are interested in high quality products at the lowest
productivity cost possible while maintaining good relations and organizational wealth (Nuebert
Dyck 2010). In the Multistream approach managers use a value loop which helps to identify key
performance standards. Multistream process standards are used not targets like the Mainstream
manager. The Mulitistream manager uses the information system to help enhance, process, share,
and self monitor the dada. Rather than use a Top down approach the Multisystem manager is
going to expect that other help in these processes rather than have it trickle down hill effect and
emphasizes balancing multiple forms of well being for multiple stakeholders (Nuebert Dyck 2010).
Nuebert Dyck in 2010 describe the Multistream approach to the four step control process as looking
at and establishing standards in the value chains rather than value loops. The goal is to incorporate
all stakeholders goals however much of the time they are able to foresee potential delinks and the
potential un connectivity of those chains (p556). The Mainstream focus on controlling their
employee from top to bottom, the Multistream organizations focus on creating a system that allows

Events Of Industrialization
The many influential events that occurred between between 1750 and 1900 have undoubtedly
impacted the modern world. Some of the most significant events include revolutions and reform in
the Atlantic world, Industrialization and Global Integration, and Imperialism over colonies.
Deciding which one of these processes or events has affected the modern era is not a simple
decision due to the fact that all of the previously mentioned events have played crucial roles in
developing and creating the modern world. For example, revolutions gave birth to modern nations
such as France, the United Statesand Haiti. Industrialization kick started the growth of countless
industries including textiles, agriculture and rail. Imperialism created and aided global... Show more

Imperialism can be found when describing the colonization of Africa, Asia and The Americas
specifically. Key imperialistic nations include Great Britain, France and Japan as these nations
were notorious for colonizing and influencing foreign regions. The reason Imperialism and Nation
State building are not as important as Industrialization is because Imperialism was simply between
two parties: the colonizers and those being colonized. Although it is possible to claim that the
process of Imperialism had a positive global impact, it is not necessarily true. For example, many
colonies such as the United States and Haiti rebelled against their European colonizers and gained
independence from these nations with conflict and combat. Ultimately this resulted in the loss of
life in the thousands and destruction of entire cities. Imperialism has never worked out as almost
every colony under imperialist rule is now an independent nation. The influence put on by the
colonizers onto the colonized generally ended in a poor fashion. For example, Indian citizens who
were not content with the British rule did not wear foreign clothing and embraced local clothing
and arts. Even though Imperialism was without a doubt an important process from 1750 1900, it
did not have the same global effect and power that Industrialization

Vibrio vulnificus found in the Hampton Roads area
Issued 5 April, 2016
In the Hampton Roads area we have a special scientist that test our waters and they are with a
company called Hampton Roads Sanitation District also known as HRSD. In recent years a flesh
eating bacteria called Vibrio Vulnificus has been found in Hampton Roads area, specifically at the
Virginia Beach Oceanfront. It is very concerning because a lot of people that live in the Hampton
Roads area enjoy swimming or surfing in the ocean, as well as tourists who come. If the Vibrio
Vulnificus spreads no one will want to visit to the oceanfront.
During the summer of 2012 the HRSD tested the waters of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. When

Claddagh Ring Research Paper
How the Claddagh Ring is Used When I began to think about this project I thought about things
that I use all the time. My Claddagh Ring came to mind since it is something that I never take
off and is something that I know many people wear. I also began to think about the reason that I
wear the ring. I thought about why other people wear the ring and the memories attacked to it. I
also began to think about how it is marketed to people. The main points that I found were that the
ring is mostly worn by Irish Americans and seen as a connection to that heritage and is marketed
as so, but that there are also people who do not have and ancestors who are Irish, but wear the ring.
A Claddagh Ring is seen as a symbol of love, friendship and loyalty. The ring originates from the
village of Claddagh which is located in County Galway. The story behind how Claddagh Rings
came about having many different sides. The ring design that most people know, the two hands
clasping a heart with a crown on top, is thought to only be 200 years old with a slightly different
design being used before then. No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because it has taken on a meaning beyond its original intent. It has become something that I do
not know if I could ever pass on like my mother had passed her ring onto me. My ring relates
back to the stories of D. Gorton and Mr. Hubbard in Voices in the Kitchen: Cooking Tools as

A Modest Proposal, By Aldous Huxley And Jonathan Swift
Aldous Huxley and Jonathan Swift both have a different way of bringing society s attention to
the real problems of the world. Both authors utilize the New Historicism lense as an influence to
each of their pieces of literature. From 1729 to 1932, there were plenty of historical conflicts that
could help each author make society want to change the current problems that they were facing.
Huxley satirizes the sexual freedom and moral decay of the Roaring 20s in Brave New Worldand
Swift satirizes the rising problem of overpopulation in Ireland in his short story, A Modest Proposal
. A popular theory by Thomas Malthus on overpopulation could have been influenced by Swift s

Both pieces of literature use satire to raise awareness of the conflicts and to make society question
or feel the need to change the current problems. Thomas Malthus, a scholar that was born about
thirty years following the great Irish famine discovered a famous population theory. In general, he
stated in his theory that the population of a country will always be greater than the amount of
sources it can produce, like food. It is possible that he came up with his population theory after
studying all of the potential factors in the Irish famine. Overpopulation was one of the main
contributors to the famine. In Brave New World, the characters use Malthusian belts which held
contraceptives like birth control and condoms. These belts that the men and women of this book
wore were used to control overpopulation, which was the exact conflict that Jonathan Swift was
trying to resolve in his short story, A Modest

Valerie Holliday s Masculinity In The Novels Of Philip K.

masculinity and gender, and parallels it to his life and socio political exploration. FindIt@Flinders

Extrapolation is identifiable as a credible journal that invites papers on all areas of speculative
culture (Extrapolation: A Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy, 2015) I found no information
about Holliday. Googling Philip K. Dick masculinity produces a multitude of reviews from blogs

Similarities Between Mccarthyism And The Crucible
I have here in my hand a list of 205 State Department employees that were known to the Secretary
of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and
shaping the policy of the State Department , McCarthy s speech in the State Department, (
McCarthyism the Red Scare , History.com). The Red Scare era was a haywire of communist
infiltrations during the Cold War, in the 1950s. On February 9th, 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthya
republican of Wisconsin, accused originally 205 state department employees of being a part of a
communist party. McCarthy s speech sparked an uproar of nationwide hysteria about the
renegade people in the American government. Overall, McCarthy accused 224 people for being
involved with a communist party. One of the 224 people, Arthur Miller, an american playwright
who wrote The Crucible to warn the american people against the government misinformation. The
Crucible is about the salem witch trials in 1692. He compared the witch trials in The Crucible to
the McCarthy investigations. The Crucible, a play, written by Arthur Miller is an allegory for the
Red Scare in the McCarthy Era, which took place in the 1950s, because of the false evidence
provided, the false accusations, and the hearsay in the courts. During the Red Scare Era, McCarthy
accused people of crimes they did not commit, he falsified evidence trying to frame them for being
apart of the communist infiltration. McCarthy accused 224 people of communism,

Cross And Kidd Summary
Cross and Kidd I found this story amusing as well as sad. This story is about two women who
have known each other since kindergarten and they now reside in a nursing home. Mrs, Cross
and Mrs. Kidd have had a friendship that has lasted over eight decades. The two went to school
together, they got married, both had children, and both lost their spouses. They now reside in a
nursing home. The way the author describes the different types of residence that live there, I
would also say this is a skilled nursing facility and mental health facility. In this facility there are
residents of all ages. Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Kidd have lunch together everyday, they play cards or
scrabble. They began to have a daily routine. One day Mrs. Cross takes interest

Crime In The 19th Century
Crime and punishment in the 19thcentury was a time of rising crime and increasing misery. As
people packed into the slums of the ever expanding cities jobs became scarce and people struggled.
In rural areas, changes to agricultural practices left many laborers without enoughwork to support
their families. In order for many of the poor to feed their families, they turned to crime. In the later
19th century it was not just crime that was increasing but also poverty. The industrial revolution
made many people rich, but for many poor familiesin both rural and urban areas life was the
worst it had been for a long time. As people moved into the towns and cities, the crime rate

Examples Of Social Reform
Social Reform in the Eyes of social workers Change developments including religion, moderation,

American accentuation on a popularity based society. The change developments were prodded by

Biblical Worldview
Introduction The book of Romans Chapter 1 8 gives a great preliminary understanding of a biblical
worldview. In the book of Romans, Paul letter addresses an understanding of what the natural world,

throughout the book of Romans. In the book of Romans Paul is a servant of JesusChrist and an
apostle that writes a letter to Christians to help them understand Christian s faith and empirical
implications for the lives of Christians. Also, In Paul letter, he describes the relationship and

To be is life, prosperity, and the purse of happiness. If there were no humans there will be no
earth humans are placed on earth to take care of it. In the first book of the Bible Genesis gives a
great example of what it is like to be human. God cares about everything he created but he cares
more about his children because we are a resemblance of God. God created us to take care of the
creation he has made. In the book of Romans Chapter 8:12 17 provides more information about
human identity. In Romans 8:12 13 says So then, my friends, we have an obligation, but it is not
to live as our human nature wants us to. For if you live according to your human nature, you are
going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful actions, you will live (The Ultimate
Student Bible). This scripture is basically saying as mankind, we cannot live our life as others want
us to we have to live our life accordingly to God s will. God created us and has a purpose for each
individual he created. For example, Paul identity was a servant of Jesus Christ his identity
consisted of him teaching the word of God in Rome. However, from a biblical worldview, a lot of
people are trying to figure out who they are and what they are called to do. But we have to
recognize our identity that comes from the Lord. God created us and God has a purpose for each
man he created on

  • 3. Greek Art and Architecture Essays Essay #1 The Palace of Knossos, a Minoan mud brick and timber structure on a shallow stone foundation, featuring a central courtyard, was constructed on an acropolis. It was a place for rulers to reside, shrines for religious ceremonies to be worshipped, the industrial production of objects, and administrative duties. Ample hallways, stairways, chambers, and light wells supplemented the ambitiously built structure. There were plenty of columns to mark he four awe inspiring entrance passages. Four wings, oriented in a north south direction, surrounded the central courtyard. The east wing featured the residential spaces, a workshop, and a shrine, while the west wing was complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the Citadel of Mycenae was heavily fortified and featured many entrances. It s famous gate, The Lion Gate, is known for its keystone depicting two of the animal. Though the columns appear Minoan in style, this is a Mycenaean innovation featuring the first example of monumental sculpture in Greek art. This post and lintel limestone entrance is over 9 6 tall. Also Mycenaean, the Beehive Tomb at the Treasury of Atreus, complete with corbelling, and post and lintel entranceway, and a long walkway. The Treasury of Atreus is a well preserved tholos tomb with a round, corbelled interior roof, cushioned capital columns, and a small chamber. This monument was once highly decorated with paint and sculpture, though this can no longer be seen. A mask, once thought to depict the face of Agamemnon, though now a disproved theory, was found at the royal tombs of Mycenae. It is the likeness of a man and was used as a burial mask with a less stylized beard and mustache. Mycenae was full of war and turmoil. A vase, c.1300 100 bc, was dubbed The Warrior Vase for its scene of women bidding farewell to the warrior men. Such a solemn feel seems to typify these times. Other signs of unrest include dagger blades with gold and silver inlay on bronze, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dynamic Characters In Things Fall Apart The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. These are the words of Socrates on change and the human energy it may take to embrace it. One culture that experienced significant change was the Ibo culture and its people. The novel Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, clearly demonstrates the changes that took place in the Ibo culture to a Western audience. By following the life of many dynamic characters throughout the story, Achebe is able show the reader what the Ibo culture entails. Characters play a dominating role in Chinua Achebe s novel by displaying how one must change in order to survive in the evolving world. One of the most dynamic characters in Achebe s novel is Okonkwos son, Nwoye. From the beginning of the novel, Nwoye is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His father Okonkwo did not approve of his son at all. Okonkwo said, He would stamp out the disquieting signs of laziness which he thought he already saw in him [Nwoye] (Page 33) Nwoye was seen as weak and feminine, and Okonkwo did not want this of his oldest son. Okonkwo worked very hard to try and change his son s ways, but Nwoye knew what he believed in and what he thought was right and this ended up helping him survive in the world. Nwoye changed a lot when Ikemefuna was placed in Okonkwo s family. [Nwoye] became quite inseparable from him [Ikemefuna]. (Page 28) This was one of the only things that pleased Okonkwo because through Ikemefuna, Nwoye was learning how to become a man. The two boys pleased Okonkwo and made him very proud. But when tides changed and Okonkwo murdered Ikemefuna, Nwoye could never look at his father the same way again, and he went back to his old ways dismissing his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Biological Processes Of Obesity Obesity can develop when the cumulative energy intake exceeds energy expenditure, when this happens the excess is stored primarily as fat in adipose tissues. The biological processes that regulate the energy balance are highly regulated and this mechanism can be overwhelmed, because of a need to eat when not hungry, if attractive high calorie food is presented in attractive settings, and if individuals are regularly non mobile for extended periods. The control pathways that include short term signaling of hunger and engorgement to the central nervous system with the hormones that come from the gastrointestinal tract, long term signaling of energy stores to the brain via leptin and insulin, as well as the control of metabolism. Rare genetic syndromes also play a role and these present in early childhood with severe obesity these include mutations in the pro opiomelanocortin gene and deficiencies in the leptin this demonstrates that the pathways are biologically important in humans. Most obesity cases develop because of modern lifestyles in genetically susceptible individuals. The changes include excessive consumption of high energy food in tandem with low levels of physical activity and that in many societies; less affluent people have a higher incidence (Lee et al 2013). Other causes of obesity that are considered include some drugs that can cause an increase in appetiteand structural damage to areas of the nervous system that control appetite. • 6. `` Brave New World `` By Aldous Huxley John the Savage is the only person in this new world society born naturally from a mother and not from a factory, John is a unique human being with an identity and a family relationship unlike any other character in Aldous Huxley s novel, Brave New World . Even though he is the son of two upper class utopians, he grows up in the depths of Malpais: The Savage Reservation. Torn between two cultures, John is not truly a part of the savage society or of the new world society. His only society is an imaginative world built around Shakespeare s books. John is the ultimate outsider and his life is filled with confusion and struggle. Although he does not appear until chapter seven of Brave New World , John is the protagonist of the story and the symbol of the old world society. The outer appearance of John can reveal the struggle within him. He may be dressed like a savage, but his light colored skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes betray his origin. He was born on the Savage Reservation to Linda, a Beta minus who had lived in the new world society before being abandoned on the reservation by the Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning (The D.H.C.). The Director does not even know of his existence until John later appears in London as an adult. His life on the reservation is miserable, because he is not accepted by the other savages and cannot understand the lifestyle that his mother lives. As a result, he is isolated and desires for something and somewhere to belong to. While Linda ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Pablo Picasso s Boy With A Pipe Growing up I was infatuated with art, I love the creativity that a person could bring to any piece of work. While looking through many paintings, I came across one that caught not only my eye, but many others. The name of this Painting is Boy with a Pipe, created by one of the greatest artist in the world, Pablo Picasso. This representational paintingwas created in the year of 1905 when Picasso was 24 years old (Daluwatta). This Painting is representational because, the oil that is on the canvas depicts a young white Persian boy who is holding a pipe in his left hand and also wearing some type of headband of flowers around his head. Picasso lived in Le Bateau Lavoir in Montmartre when he created this mister piece. Picasso called the young white boy Little Louise, he had spent much time in the studio while he was creating this painting. (Lu). There are many people that say that the boy who... This is where Picasso spent most his time trying to get the height just right. In my opinion I believe this piece of work doesn t really show how any other object is being used besides the pipe and a head band of flowers. The Pipe, which is a symbol for the intellectual also relating in nineteenth and twentieth century type of painting. It looks like its being held by the artist outside the painting as he wonder about the image, although it s held by the model inside the painting. It is believed that Picasso is imagining his own alter ego while holding his own pipe and that the boy is a reflection of Picasso (Chipp). In my opinion this work depict a very young boy that represent intelligent and wealthy kids in the late 19th and early 20th century mood and everyone would be attracted by ... It provides education for about 10,000 students and consists of fourteen elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. In 1976, the school system purchased and implemented the DEC PDP 11/34 computer that helped to develop the student management applications, financial applications, and other student management applications. Today, the JCSS owns four Dell servers running on UNIX and everything is connected via a high speed TCP/IP network. All the applications were developed by David Meyer, a director of data processing, and his two programmers. Once the current JCSS superintended of school retired, Dr. Harvey Greene was hired. On the other hand, building own system can lead to very long and costly process, requires management commitment, and does not account for evolving requirements (Brown at al., 2012). As was learned from the case, JCSS went with purchasing decision which provides several advantages, such as quicker implementation with almost the same functionality than a custom developed solution by David Mayer. Although, it has one major disadvantage such as the JCSS became more depended on DSI that could go out of business. Personally, I noticed that Carol Andrews had a great start with going through the definition phase of the SDLC process that defines system needs, identifies potential vendors, and collects enough information for further evaluation (Brown at al., 2012). Specifically, she started with thorough feasibility that assessed economical, technical, and operational (Brown at al., 2012). Next, she prepared requirements, such as accurate specifications about the system input and output, and performance requirements. Everything was detailed. She created a list of packages and established evaluation criteria. Once the RFP was written, it was distributed to various vendors. When description of software and packages was submitted back by the vendors, the committee used the point system to evaluate the vendors by functional capabilities, technical requirements, costs, amount and quality of ... This issue has not been plaguing Guatemala alone, it is an issue that has been prominent since the beginning of time. What multiplied disadvantage is, is that men and women divided simply can t exist, and in society, inclusion really matters. We see the tentacles of multiplied disadvantage in the nexus between ethnicity and gender. Acts of violence inflicted on indigenous women follow on from such intersecting prejudices. Research and empirical evidence show that successful prevention and response to violence against women and girls are more sustainable if they form part of comprehensive and multisectoral interventions. Attracting representation must be accompanied by investments in research and data collection relevant monitoring and evaluation, respect for indigenous peoples rights to self determination, the maintenance of their cultures, lands, territories and resources, the full operationalization of free, prior and informed consent; and access to formal and informal systems of justice in line with the United Nations. The Office for the Defense of Indigenous Women (DEMI) was set up to promote the full realization of their rights and contribute to the eradication of all forms of violence. Passengers would transfer from double truck electric cars at the top of the hill to a single truck car attached to the cable by a plow. When the car reached the bottom of the hill, it released the plow and ran on to Bay Street. The counterbalance was the only United Railroads line which directly reached the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition, held at the Marina. The 19 Polk came within a block of the eastern entrance. URR had all the single truck cars rebuilt as Pay as You Enter (PAYE) cars with multiple unit (MU) capability. The cars ran as trains during the Exposition due to the heavy passenger loads. Any positive impact that can be made on attrition will have a direct impact on profitability. Retention/attrition may not be the bane of a particular industry, but a positive impact via proactive strategies will most assuredly have a significant impact on profitability. As competition increases, companies will be under pressure to curb costs and stretch every rupee. In such situations, instead of companies focusing on business at hand and putting people issues on the back burner, they should focus on retaining high performing employees and keeping them motivated. The best companies consequently know that in all business climates taking measures to retain valued employees saves money, preserves margins and leads to better business opportunities. The business impact of good and bad attrition can be felt in both tangible and intangible ways. According to few researchers the tangible aspects are: Loss of knowledge capital Delay in execution of projects/assignments Loss of production Increasing cost of recruitment On the intangible front it would result in: Impact on employer brand Burden and burnout on existing employees Internal information and knowledge is being shared outside Existing team also gets defocused/demotivated for sometime

Barry Beyerstein stated in his article that, In trying to make sense of any sudden, emotionally charged experience, we are all prone to embellish it in ways that fit our philosophical preconceptions (Beyerstein 2). Investigating Factors That Affect The Police Of Policing... 2.1 Introduction This chapter deals with a review of the literature on the topic of research to determine factors that affect the effectiveness of the police in policing regarding race and corruption. 2.2 The problem exists in contemporary society Many researches have raised concern over racism and police indulging in other criminal activities, especially corruption the United Kingdom, but contemporary research has been more specific when dealing with race matter, the scope has been so wide in that various scholars have found it important to explore it more to fight its prevalence. The racism in the police is a not matter which should be kept in secret; the prejudice is very visible in the public domain (Benson, 2010). The police approach to an issue is purely biased, the way police officers approach to white people is different from the way they tackle the same to a black person, minority ethnics and Asian person (Weitzer, 2008). The society has been socialized in a manner that the level of prejudice is used to define characters of a different race. These definitions in most cases amount to hatred actions. The issue of concern is where to run for justice now that police are part of this society. Due to this, many violence ends up unreported, In 2013/2014, the number of defendants who were referred by the police to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision for racially and racially aggravated crimes rose by 14.17% from the previous year to 12,184, and out of ... There is no free will because God already chose who gets what, so there is no point in worshipping a God that might condemn you. The primary source of this essay is Institutes of the Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapters, 21 23 by Jean Calvin. Rich Thai players entered into collusion with local and foreign banks, mostly Japanese banks, to loan more money just to keep on building. Because of overbuilding, they were no longer able to rent out most of their new office and condo space. Prices dropped due to oversupply, so they couldn t get nearly as much money on what they used to built those. When the bank loans became due, they couldn t pay. This also became a contributing factor in the problem faced by Thailand during the Asian currency crisis. They wern t able to weigh whether investments in buildings are worthwhile, they were reckless and the only thing they though was the funds they were able to get for building those infrastructures. Their foreign borrowing went to prestigious projects with no solid economic returns. Another reason behind the 1997 Asian financial crisis was the large current account deficits. Asian leaders agreed that large current account deficits could not be good, but they made the logical economic argument that if a current account deficit mostly reflects higher investment, it would eventually increase an economy s competitiveness and therefore its ability to repay the debt, and would certainly be more sustainable than a deficit driven by ... While in Joyce s boy we readily believe such confusion between the gallant and profane, I think we needn t assume that Sammy is likewise unable to distinguish between the two quite normal impulses. His attraction to the girl in the aisle is certainly far more anatomically and less ambiguously expressed than that of Joyce s boy to Mangan s sister. But it is Beauty that confounds the issue. When human aesthetics come into play, when the object of a young man s carnal desire also gratifies him aesthetically, that is when the confusion arises. in Irish Catholic Dublin of the 1890s,[3] such youthful beauty not surprisingly invokes analogies between Mangan s sister and the Queen of Heaven (though the swinging of her body and the soft rope of her hair toss[ing] from side to side [Joyce 30]), which captivate the boy, hint at something less spiritual than Madonna worship). And while beauty s benchmarks in Sammy s more secular mid century America are more anatomical than spiritual, Updike does have Sammy call his young femme fatal Queenie, and he does make her the center of a trinity of sorts, showing her two friends at one point huddl[ing] against her for relief ( A P 189). • 35. Relationship Between the Muscular System and Its... Each body part has a specific role within the community of the human body. When working properly, each system is contributing to maintaining homeostasis as well. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the relationship between the muscular system and how it contributes to the overall health and balance of the body it is placed within. The essay will discuss the function of the muscular system, the organization of the system and how it contributes to homeostasis. The muscular system is the part of the body that assists with motor function and movement. There are three types of muscles in the human body that are included within this system. Smooth muscles are involuntary and are found inside organs such as the stomach and throat. Skeletal muscles are voluntary and are located everywhere throughout the body. The third type of muscles are cardiac muscles that are involuntary and keep your heart beating. While most people associate muscles with strength, they do more than assist in lifting heavy objects. The 650 muscles in the body not only support movement controlling walking, talking, sitting, standing, eating and other daily functions that we consciously perform. Muscles also help to maintain posture and circulate blood and other substances throughout the body, among other functions. Muscles can also be identified by their function. Agent Smith Quotes I will be asserting, in this argument, through the quotes and actions of Neo and Agent Smith as well as underlying themes and philosophies throughout the trilogy that, despite what was clearly and repeatedly implied and stated throughout the trilogy Neo is not actually the savior figure in accordance with the Oracle s prophecy. Or, rather, that Neomay represent the Messiah to the humans in Zion and the Matrix, the 1 respectively. However, Agent Smith, the 0 in the integral anomaly, more fully represent a manifestation of the Oracle s prophecy than even Neo. Well, two characters in the play portray this action. In The Crucible, having fear is by getting witchcraft accusations and the tension by one another. These fears are consistently because they have angry towards one another. Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, illustrates the historical events of the Salem witch trials which took in Salem, Massachusetts around 1692. While Abigail is jealous, manipulative, and a liar who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because she can no longer have what she wants. This connects to my life about how John Proctor is a brave man and would do anything for his family. Let s say when I was ten years I went into the ocean and a shark had bitten me, my dad is the type of person who would come into the ocean, knowing the shark is there, to rescue me and bring me to health. When I m sick, he gets me medicine and takes me to a doctor. I don t think another person had more of a significant influence on me more than my father. Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. • 40. Ethics In The Crucible In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic ethics. Two big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John Calvin. From them came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite side of thought, the idea that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works that we read all take these ideas into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the idea that what God says must be done regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a sermon by Rev. Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to sinners, in this case the Puritans of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a fearful and powerful way unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to back up his sermon by opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then goes on to say that the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it is theological ethics because he says that the verse... I would like to list some of the similarities and differences between these two legislaturesto help you in the transition as the Congress has changed overtime and thus, to help develop your Home Style. The modern Congress is a reformed Congress (Shaw, 2015:2). The power of the House of Representative was held in the hand of the Speaker in the early 1900s. However, a resolution was introduced by George Norris after leading the progressive Republicans and Democrats into a revolt against Joe Cannon, the Speaker, in 1910. The power was moved to the hands of the committee chairs, which were determined by seniority, after the revolt. (Shaw, 2015:3). The seniority system was challenged in the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, a greater role was placed on the Speaker of the House and the majority party on determining the assignment of the committee chairs. Moreover, the sub committees had also become more important in the legislature. Imperialism can be found when describing the colonization of Africa, Asia and The Americas specifically. Key imperialistic nations include Great Britain, France and Japan as these nations were notorious for colonizing and influencing foreign regions. The reason Imperialism and Nation State building are not as important as Industrialization is because Imperialism was simply between two parties: the colonizers and those being colonized. Although it is possible to claim that the process of Imperialism had a positive global impact, it is not necessarily true. For example, many colonies such as the United States and Haiti rebelled against their European colonizers and gained independence from these nations with conflict and combat. Ultimately this resulted in the loss of life in the thousands and destruction of entire cities.
