The Framers Of The Constitution
Civics and Citizenship
The Framers of the Constitution looked to history for examples of governments that directly
represented the people. Early Romans wanted to create a lasting republic, a government in which
citizens rule themselves through elected representatives. A republic is a government in which citizens
rule themselves through elected representatives. Americans liked the roman form of government but
also knew that eventually the Roman republic became a dictatorship, a government in which one
person rules with all authority. The Framers wanted to avoid the Roman s fate. They wanted to create
a permanent government where the informed citizens ran their own government.
Another historic document the Founders looked to was the Magna Carta. In 1215, many of the
landowning gentry of England rebelled against the unpopular King John. In order to help restore peace
the rebels forced the king to sign the Magna Carta. It placed limits on the power of the English king
and made Parliament the ruling body in England. The English Bill of Rights (1689) was another
document the Framers looked to. It gave the citizens of England certain rights such as freedom of
speech and separation of powers.
John Locke published Two Treatise [essays] of Government in 1689. In these tow documents Locke
proposed that every person had the rights of life, liberty and property. The government cannot take
these unalienable rights away unless they have a reason. Locke also stated that the

Oscar Wilde Essay
Oscar Wilde was one of the most prominent Irish born playwrights. He was a major player in the
aesthetic movement, which was based on art for art s sake. Wilde was also a novelist, playwright,
poet, and critic.
He was born Oscar Fingal O Flahertie Wilson Wilde on October 16, 1854, in Dublin, Ireland. Wilde
came from a rather large family. William Wilde, his father, had three illegitimate children previous to
his marriage. They were Henry Wilson in 1838, Emily in 1847, and Mary in 1849. William provided
financially for all of them. Henry studied medicine and later assisted his father at St. Mark s Hospital.

Mansa Musa Influence
Musa Keita I became emperor following the death of his predecessor, Abu Bakr II. When he was
crowned, he was given the name Mansa, meaning king. Mansa was the fourteenth century emperor of
the Mali Empire, his land was laden with many lucrative natural resources, most notably gold. Mansa
Musa vast wealth was only one piece of his rich legacy however. When Mansa Musa came to power in
1312 most of Europe was racked by famine and civil wars. However many African Kingdoms in the
Islamic world were flourishing and Mansa Musa played a great role in bringing the fruits of this
flourishing to his own realm. By strategically annexing the city of Timbuktu, and reestablishing power

He was a devoted Muslim and built many schools based on the teachings of the Quran, there is also a
saying that every Friday when he stopped, while on his Hajj, he ordered a Mosque to be built, because
that is a Muslim holy day. He sent many students to Islamic universities in northern Africa. But how
did Mansa Musa become such a devoted Muslim? Pastoral North Africans called Berbers had longed
traded with West African with the Berbers offering salt for West African gold. West African gold for
salt may seem like a bad trade however salt is very important to the human body because without salt,
we die. The Berbers were early converts to Islam and Islam spread along those pre existing trade
routes between North and South Africa. The first converts in Mali were traders who benefited from
having a religious as well as a commercial connection in the North and the rest of the Mediterranean.
The kings in the North and East then followed the traders thinking it would give them prestige. Islam
then became the religion of the elites of West Africa which meant the Muslim kings were trying to
extend their power over largely non Muslim populations which worshipped traditional African Gods
and spirits. As a devout Muslim he took a particular interest in Timbuktu, already a center of religion
and learning prior to its annexation. Man s Musa tried to increase their the knowledge and and practice

Pros And Cons Of Prisons In Prison
Convicted criminals are incarcerated to serve their sentences in various prisons. Most of the prisons
have all type of routines adhered to by the people who are within their environment. Prisons are
classified according to the level of security available and type of prisoners they accommodate. Prisons
having prisoners of lowest risk levels and serving shorter sentences are referred to as minimum
security prisons. Medium security prisons accommodate prisoners of slightly higher security risks
such as those who are violent. Maximum security prisons have most violent and those of highest
security threats. Multi use prisons have prisoners of different security classifications. Specialty prisons
have prisoners with special needs such as mental illness, disability or HIV/AIDS.
Correctinal officers serving at the prison premises have the best first hand informatin. With this
privilage, I managed to interview an officer from the innamate prison center. The information
collected was correlated to works by other authors who have reviewed the prison institutional
correction. Therefore, further clarification on this correction is elaborated in this paper. The prison life
cycle, events, terminations aims and achievements of prison life are hereby contained.
Arrival at prison After a long conversation with a correctional officer, I found out that once new
prisoners arrive, they undergo several interviews, and interrogations. They are informed about various
prison rules, regulations and procedures which are supposed to be followed and must be adhered to,
and the consequences of breaking them. He further explained that the new prisoners are informed
about their rights and privileges. The prisoners are informed of various educational courses and
training available in prison. After the brief introduction to prison, they are then told the reason for their
imprisonment. Each of them is assigned a unique number for identification. The correctional officer
elaborated that prisoners who might be having any possessions are usually needed to hand them over
to the authorities where they are safely kept until they are released. Also, upon arrival at the prison,
one is given a prison number that must stay same even

The Theme Of Language In The Red Sari By Apirana Taylor
Describe an important idea in a text or texts you have studied. Explain how the writer used language
features to make that idea seem important.
In the short story The Red Sari by Apriana Taylor, there are many themes being conveyed in the story,
the most prominent being the cultural conflict and tension between the narrator and the Indian
beggars. Language features play a vital role in the story, and Taylor uses language features to convey
his important ideas and messages to the reader.
In The Red Sari, Apirana Taylor also shows that cultural differences can lead to misunderstanding and
discomfort. He uses the first person narrative to show his actions and thoughts. The narrator, who is a
foreigner presumably visiting India, is trapped in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The line, Someone carries off the road an arm and a sopping red sari. Christ, if they want the other
arm, they ll have to look under that car. That crunched up concertina car wearing a traffic light for a

these lines that very few people cared about the car crash except for the people who helped. Negative
connotations and metaphors help paint a picture in the reader s mind of the scene. The words crunched
up concertina and the metaphor wearing a traffic light for a hat both show evidently how the car had
been damaged in the accident. Overall, the use of vivid imagery to portray the severity of the car crash
scene helps me to understand the theme of cultural differences, with the citizens of New Delhi caring

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Essay
Duchenne s muscular dystrophy, also known as psuedohypertrophic muscular dystrophy, is a typical
sex linked disorder in which the muscles degenerate throughout a person s life. It literally means
faulty nutrition of the muscles. Muscular Dystrophy has no cures, and this particular type of muscular
dystrophy affects only males. One in 3,500 baby boys are born with this disorder and survival is rare
beyond the early 30s, death is usually caused by a respiratory disease. (ygyh.org) Duchenne s
muscular dystrophy is named after the French neurologist, Guillaume B. A. Duchenne, who lived from
1806 to 1875. In 1861 he became the first person to describe the disorder. In 1951 Elizabeth Shull

(www.ncdi.nlm.nih.gov) Usually, children with muscular dystrophy develop normally during the first
few years of their life. In time some common symptoms appear, including: stumbling, waddling,
difficulty climbing stairs, and toe walking (walking on the toes, not letting the heels hit the floor). It is
also very common for a child with MD to develop large calf muscles. This is a condition called calf
pseudo hypertrophy, in which the muscle tissue is destroyed and replaced by fat. (www.kidshealth.org)
Duchenne?s muscular dystrophy usually affects the patient by age five, and they?re usually in a
wheelchair by the age of twelve. Over time the muscles weaken in the shoulders, back, arms, and legs.
Eventually the respiratory muscles are affected, and a ventilator is required to assist with breathing.
Kids with this form of MD usually have a life span of around twenty years. Most kids with Duchenne?
s muscular dystrophy are of average intelligence, although one third of MD cases also experience
learning disabilities, and a few cases have mental retardation. (www.kidshealth.org) Physical therapy
can be used to help a child maintain muscle tone, thereby extending their lifespan. For those that do
have Duchenne?s muscular dystrophy activity is highly encouraged. Inactivity can worsen the muscle
disease. Leg braces can also allow a child with MD to walk independently for a longer period of time.

Macroeconomics Gdp
Circulation in macroeconomics
Macroeconomics (from Greek prefix makros meaning large + economics ) is a branch of economics
dealing with the performance, structure, behavior, and decision making of an economy as a whole,
rather than individual markets. This includes national, regional, and global economies.[1][2] With
microeconomics, macroeconomics is one of the two most general fields in economics.
Macroeconomists study aggregated indicators such as GDP, unemployment rates, and price indices to
understand how the whole economy functions. Macroeconomists develop models that explain the
relationship between such factors as national income, output, consumption, unemployment, inflation,

Wages may be too high because of minimum wage laws or union activity. Consistent with classical
unemployment, frictional unemployment occurs when appropriate job vacancies exist for a worker,
but the length of time needed to search for and find the job leads to a period of unemployment.[5]
Structural unemployment covers a variety of possible causes of unemployment including a mismatch
between workers skills and the skills required for open jobs.[6] Large amounts of structural
unemployment can occur when an economy is transitioning industries and workers find their previous
set of skills are no longer in demand. Structural unemployment is similar to frictional unemployment
since both reflect the problem of matching workers with job vacancies, but structural unemployment
covers the time needed to acquire new skills not just the short term search process.[7] While some
types of unemployment may occur regardless of the condition of the economy, cyclical unemployment
occurs when growth stagnates. Okun s law represents the empirical relationship between
unemployment and economic growth.[8] The original version of Okun s law states that a 3% increase
in output would lead to a 1% decrease in unemployment.[9]

Kantianism And Altruism
Charity. Philanthropy. Altruism. These three words ultimately point to the single, ultimate goal: to help
. In fact, charitable giving is the act of donating money to a certain cause, so that more people are
helped overall. However, many organizations, such as the federal government, offer tax reductions
while other organizations offer other perks for charitable giving. Some see incentives to charity as
demeaning the virtue of selfless giving, yet these critics lose sight of the actual goal of charity: to help
other people in its cause. Charity is not to allow people to think that they are more moral, but it s for
the people instead. Incentivising charitable giving is not only just, but it is also warranted for the final
goal of assisting as many people as possible. From my observations, I first look towards the increasing
socioeconomic gap between the upper and the lower class. Indeed, many wealthy people such as Bill

In fact, incentivizing charity is morally sound in the two most major moral frameworks of Kantianism
and Utilitarianism. First, Jeremy Bentham wrote many papers describing the philosophy of utility,
where an action is just if it does the most good to the most amount of people. In bringing incentives,
we not only help more people for a cause, but we can all many who want to give charitably a chance
to do so by offsetting the cost. Under Kantianism, Immanuel Kant also states that although charitable
giving is itself virtuous, no one has a full obligation to another human being. Beliweving so would
then follow a radical, Marxist social argument. Essentially, giving a reward to a person who gives up
his or her own belongings which was unobligated to be given in the first place is just in an of itself. In
these two, usually opposing moral frameworks, incentivizing charity is both just in each

U.s. Congress And The United States Congress
Under the first Article in the Constitution, the U.S. Congress is the first branch and is also known as
the most important representative body of the world. They are among the other few national
representative bodies that acquire powers of governance. The U.S. Congress is made up of two
chambers, The House of Representatives and The Senate. The two most important powers given to
any government are the power of force and the power over money, and the U.S. Congress has the
authority over the two. They have a lot of power in their hands (Lowi, 130). As mentioned before, the
U.S. Congress is made up of two chambers the House and the Senate that is provided by the
constitution as a bicameral legislature. They each cater to different constituencies. The House is

elected directly by the people. Four hundred thirty five of the members of the U.S. Congress are apart
of the House and one hundred of the members are apart of the Senate (Lowi, 136). Can you imagine
having to make compromises and decisions on thing with five hundred thirty five people? I can
imagine with that many people apart of the U.S. Congress that they dealt with a lot of conflict when
having to make decisions. With their powers, under Article I, Section 8, Congress has the power to lay

Informative Essay On Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a national holiday to commemorate fallen and current men and women for serving our
country. One year after The Great War, November 11 was declared as Armistice Day by President
Wilson. It officially became a holiday on June 1, 1954. Then later the name was changed to Veterans
Day on October 8th (Office of Public Affairs). From then on it was a widely celebrated holiday.
People were let off work/ school to come together with their families to honor people who sacrifice
themselves for the freedom we take for granted everyday. For us seeing a soldier take time out of his

Essay on Development of Colonies
In pursuit of national glory, profit and religious mission, England started to explore and conquer the
North America. Through the 1600s and the early 1700s, three major colonial regions, the New

economic freedom from land owning drew people to the North America. However, during and after
the French Indian War, colonies cooperated to resist British policies and finally declared their

Is the Noah s Ark story true or just a nice fairytale? There are many questions that people wonder
about this biblical story but one of the major ones that people are asking is, could the boat stay afloat

weight of the water it displaces. If the object had a greater density than the water it would sink. They
calculated that the empty boat would have no problem at all staying afloat on the ocean. The ark was

he tells his brother how much he loves him and that after he tells him this news he will trust him more

the male vs. female honor because Benedick has affairs with many women and no man complains

Personification In Society
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is and ocean, if a few drops are dirty, the ocean does

Research Paper On Dog Park
Will a dog park be a postive addition to Muscatine, or will it be a negative addition? This is the
question currently being asked. Both sides of the party make a very good argument. From it being a
postive way for dogs to let out their energy and socialize, to it being a negative disruption for tax
payers and surrounding residents of the dog park. My personal opinion is the dog park should be
contructed, and here are some supporting reasons why.
As stated in the first passage, dogs need to be socialized with other dogs to be a good dog at home and
outside of its home. If a dog is not properly socialized it can easily lead to a aggressive or reserved
dog. At home i have a dog of my own which whom I adopted from a shelter. When I first attained him
he was very shy and skittish, especially around other dogs. However after taking him to our local dog
park and into different stores that allow your dog to accompany you, his behavior started to change.
He slowly started to become less shy and now wants to play with every dog he sees. If dogs have a
place to socialize, this will then lead to less of them in the shelter which will also lead to less money
taken from taxes we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This person stated the dog park will be a noise disturbance for the surrounding residential area. In
paragraph four of the Dog Park Benefits All passage, it states a dog park would mean less people
letting their dogs loose in empty lots and parks. I belive that people letting their dogs run loose in un
prohibited places makes much more of a disturbance. You dont want to go to park to relax and be
disturbed by dogs running around and barking. Nor do you want to come home to find someone has
let their dog run around in your apartments parking lot. If a dog park was built, most people would
take their dogs there. This would let you have the chance to avoid them and the noises they

The Magna Cart An Absolute Monarchy
Aquino Jordi Michael
Mr. Arturo Lopez
World History period 1
Nov 30, 2015
England did not develop an absolute monarchy because of parliament s power and laws which took up
arms creating a constitutional monarchy to enforce rule into England. England s evolution brought
important documents into play which were then followed by the enlightenment and the revolution ,
therefore creating England s constitutional monarchy.
The Magna Carta was one of the most important documents of Medieval England. The Magna Carta
was signed on June 1215 by the barons of Medieval England and King John. The Magna Carta was an
agreement made by the barons to stop a king like King John from abusing his power with England.

Children Of Lonliness By Anzia Yezierska
The bond between parents and children never deteriorates. Even in times of conflict, there is always
some love and unity between parents and children. However, as time goes on and generations drift
apart, different methods of behavior develop. The tensions between parent and child define the
conflict in Amy Tan s Two Kinds, Anzia Yezierska s Children of Loneliness, and Gish Jen s Who s
Irish. These conflicts explore the cultural gap between the two the way they act differently, their
behavioral differences, and their different thought processes are all conflicts found in the short stories.

parents and children is shown through the concept of

The daughter could still learn, however, she chooses to disobey her mother and merely pretend to

This indirect rebellion is a central conflict in Two Kinds, both internal, through her thoughts, and
external, through her relationship with her mother. In Children of Loneliness, by Anzia
Yezierska, Rachel struggles with the generational differences to a degree in which she indirectly
dehumanizes her own family. She [jumped] up from the table in disgust; I ll never be able to stand it
here with you people (Yezierska, 178). She refers to her own family as you people as if they are a
different species or race, even though they are her parents who raised her. These two examples
demonstrate the conflict between parents and children as well as the concept of non obedience in the
new generation. However, another factor is parenting style.
The shift in parenting styles through time further differentiates the parents and children with changes
in parenting and punishment. In Gish Jen s Who s Irish, the parenting styles of two generations clash
over their daughter/granddaughter, Sophie. Two perspectives fight over how

What Is The Cause Of Social Outcasts In To Kill A Mockingbird
Prejudice and social expectations: the cause of social outcasts and unfair treatment. In the novel To
Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, themes of prejudice and social expectations are accurately
displayed by creating outcasts in society and relying on pre judgments to judge behavior. She also
accurately displays the fact that not all people in the south during that time were prejudiced.
Social expectations are a strong aspect of the town of Maycomb in To Kill a Mockingbird. Many
outcast are created using these expectations. In the story, the Radley s are viewed as a very odd family
and when the main character and narrator, Scout, reveals the reasons why, at least one reason is
because They don t follow social expectations. The shutters and doors of the Radley house we re
closed on Sundays, another thing alien to Maycomb s ways... (Lee 11). This portrays the idea that the
Radley s aren t excepted socially because they don t adapt and conform to the social expectations the
rest of the community follows causing little to no interaction with the Radley s. Another example of
social expectations is not for the whole city, but for the men that are considered foot washing Baptists.
According to Miss Maudie, Scouts friendly neighbor, foot washers believe anything that s pleasure is
a sin... they thought I spent too much time in God s outdoors and not enough time inside... foot
washers think women are a sin by definition. (Lee 59). These men have social expectations for

Master And Margarit The Genre Of Russian Socialist Realism
Master and Margarita The genre of Russian Socialist Realism is firmly tied up with the political
change that occurred in the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s, after the Bolshevik Revolution, and
has ruled every single masterful field until the separation of the Soviet Union in 1991. With the new
post progressive philosophies that were being put into utilization by the Soviet government to energize
the procedure of collectivization and industrialization, the requirement of Socialist Realism as a
primary scholarly classification was one of the critical methodologies produced. This contributed to
the push to make the new man who might ultimately share in an excellently chronicled try called
assembling Socialism. The Communist Party implemented an order throughout all of the USSR,
declaring that the primary worthy literature must be one that is socially zakat, in order to signify social
request/charge. This in turn infiltrated and absorbed nearly all Soviet subjects, substance, and styles of
composing that recreated the goals of social development. The literature that was appropriate for the
Party s points and held fast to their demand is classified as the Socialist Realism sort. As a result,
essayists who took after a socially zakat style and delivered work were considered representatives of
the state and any author disagreeing from this sort would rarely be distributed. In some more severe
cases, these authors could be labeled as enemies of the state if their

The Collar And To The Virgins, By George Herbert And...
Renaissance poets explain their experience through religion, nature, and love; poets would also write
fictional poetry. Poets, George Herbert and Robert Herrick provide a biblical view on the relationship
between God and man. For instance, Herbert s poem Love explains how man is guilty of his sins and
if he is still worthy of God s love. Herbert explained that man should serve the Lord out of humility.
Aside from his God fearing nature, both men share a desire for freedom from religious devotion. They
feel that their commitment to God hinders them from gaining freedom as a normal person, such as
participating in a town activity and venturing the city streets freely. Herbert and Herrick express their
opinions on freedom, relationship between God and man, and poet characteristics. Herbert and
Herrick s poems The Collar and To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, portray a sense of freedom
and time. In Herbert s poem The Collar, the speaker wants to enjoy life without any religious acts. For
instance, he wants to pick fruits and wear garlands; however, the speaker feels like a captive to his
devotion to the Lord. He wants to enjoy life, for he is afraid of disobeying God. The title The Collar
indicates a slave of God . One can assume that Herbert s dedication to God s worship prevents him
from gaining freedom and time to a free world. Herrick s poem To the Virgins, to Make Much of
Time, the speaker compares nature s aspects to time. For example, he compares blooming flowers to

People of many different nationalities settled in Pennsylvania to work in the coal mines. Conflicts

owners of the mines. The struggle between labor and management is illustrated in the story of the
Molly Maguires, an Irish group which settled in eastern Pennsylvania. The Molly Maguires were
perhaps the most gruesome chapter in the history of Pennsylvania. The violent and dramatic case of
these people is a true life murder and detective story. To understand the conflict the Molly Maguires

The miners were forced to live in company owned shacks and had to trade in company stores at
excessive prices. Almost every miner was in debt to the company for rent and food which came out of
his wages. The English and the Welsh held the best jobs in the mines and discriminated against the
Irish. In order to fight back, the Irish formed a secret organization known as the Molly Maguires. The
name of the society was taken from a group of anti landlord agitators in the 1840s led by a widow
named Molly Maguire. The Molly Maguires organized about 1860 within a respectable society,
known as the Ancient Order of Hiberians, it was most likely a revival of what was known as
Ribbonism of Ireland. This had been formed to defend the interests of peasants against the oppression
of the absentee landlords. Its methods were those of terrorism. The Molly Maguires, also known as the
Buckshots, White Boys, and Sleepers , centered in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, more particularly
in Cass Township. Although they began as a crude labor organization whose tactics were aimed at
bettering the then unbearable working conditions, the Mollies soon attracted undesirable elements
from the rough mining towns, and became a criminal organization. The members of this organization

What Is The Aged Mother Essay
The Aged Mother
Do you love stories? Well if you love it I m pretty sure that every story you read have virtues or
values. Thus, every single story has a virtue in life that we can use to live. Virtue is a quality of moral
goodness or excellence. When we speak of individual virtues, we are talking about qualities that we
aspire to. A virtue must be cultivated for it to become a habitual way of living in the world around us.
I have picked a story about the virtue of love and wisdom. Because I believe to our Christian faith that
the supreme virtue is love and also to the wisdom that was given by God that helps us decide
correctly. So I have selected this story that will show you a mother s absolute love that will touch your

mother and made comfortable pillow and say his goodbye. Before he left her, she told him about the
path she built, and then the farmer understood that they must face the law with each other so he
carried his mother once more on his back and began walking back. When they reached back, he said
the emperor his narrative and the emperor listened to his story and removed the law.

Jane Eyre Phrenology Essay
Phrenology is the study of attributing specific personality traits and behaviors to specific portions of
the head, and was discovered by Franz Joseph Gall sometime in either the 18th or 19th century
(Gross). The word phrenology is derived from two Greek words meaning mind and knowledge
(Price). His revolutionary, although faulty and erroneous, science of the mind changed the study of
psychology. Victorian England was a supporter of Gall s work, and was a popular method of trying to
understand the fellow man.
Jane Eyre, a novel written by Charlotte Brontë, depicts many unique characters, including that of the
main protagonist. Jane Eyre is an unusual girl when compared to others of her time in society, and was
rarely understood. Through the use of phrenology, Jane s personality and behaviors could be attributed
to her cephalic anatomy. To be concise, Jane is perceived as weird because of the shape of her head.
Although this science is nonsensical to modern scholars, phrenology was accepted in the English
society of the 1700s by the world of academia. Phrenology could be easily used to examine and study
the mind of Jane Eyre in those days, and could have happened in the novel if Brontë had wished to do
so.

How Does Lenore Characterize In The Raven
Zack Griffin

English 2
27 February 2018
Guilt is Evermore I think that Nicholas Rowe said it best when he said Guilt is the source of sorrows
the avenging fiend that follows us behind with whips and stings. In Edgar Allen Poe s narrative poem
The Raven The narrator is in a state of deep depression, guilt that he let his rare and radiant maiden
whom the angels name Lenore (The Raven) get away from him, the guilt has been eating away at him
to the point where he is driven mad. I believe in this poem there was no raven, just a guilty mad man
who s imagination overcame him, the guilt and regret of never being able to see his perfect maiden
again pushes him closer and closer towards insanity until he snaps.
I believe that there was no raven in this story at all, just a man cursing life itself for his hardships. In
the poem the narrator says to the raven, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian
shore! (The Raven) saying that the raven is a demon that has come straight from hell, he is saying this
because the raven said that he will see lenore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that the raven has eyes of a demon and it s shadow hangs over the narrators soul. The Ravens

god of death, and his shore would be a part of the underworld. The time of the play is at midnight in
December, midnight is traditionally the darkest most eerie time of day, and nothing lives in the winter,
everything is gloomy and lacking life and color. The one thing that Poe describes as radiant and good

Laws and informal practices were exercised in the 1800s forbidding African Americans to have the
access to reading and writing (Williams, 2007). HBCUs granted the admission of African American
and postsecondary certification when other institutions excluded their participation (Palmer, 2010,
p.767). With 107 HBCUs over 228,000 enrolled (U.S. Department of Education, 1991). African
Americans have increased attending colleges by the 1940s while being funded by the U.S Department
of Education however limited monies supporting HBCUs casted attention away from HBCUs. In
response Fredrick D. Patterson, then president of Tuskegee Institute, suggested private funding efforts.
As a result, in 1944 presidents of 29 private HBCUs created the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
The UNCF served solely as a fund raising organization but evidently turned its attention on advocacy
and educational roles for African American students (Gasman, 2007). The Higher Education Act of
1965 amended in Title III authorized funds for enhancing HBCUs by strengthening their College and
Universities Program and the Graduate Institutions (U.S. Department of Education, 1991).
AANAPISIs are excluded from broader discourses on equity and social justice thus limiting their
system wide policy considerations at state and national levels (Teranishi, 2010). AANAPSIs are

Merit Pay Demise Essay
The dispute surrounding merit pay for teachers has existed for decades in many countries across the
globe. The debate has been particularly heated in the United States. Since the 1920s, public schools
began awarding pay mostly according to title, and seniority rather than merit. Numerous attempts have
been made to introduce merit pay systems throughout this period, but it never gained widespread
popularity on a national level. Now, however, political leaders such as Barack Obama have supported
merit pay for teachers. This has reinvigorated the debate, with many groups falling on either side. The
National Education Association, for example, has opposed merit pay, while the United Federation of
Teachers supports the idea. Merit pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
99). One of the main issues with merit pay for teachers is found in the manner in which it is measured.
Most of the new performances pay laws and union contracts measure effectiveness, at least in part, by
looking at the students test scores from one year to the next. One test score cannot paint a full picture
of a student s accomplishment. Most teachers will report that a test will only show part of the picture.
Standardized tests do not reflect life lessons, effective citizen traits, or character building traits that
were taught that year. All of these traits thrive in an effective teacher s curriculum. Following this
further, this form of measurement leads to, yet another, pitfall, such as creating a narrowed curriculum
(Ramirez, 2010, p. 56). Teachers may perhaps start teaching to the test . This unnatural, narrow
curriculum may diminish the American education system s progress. Do we want our children being
educated as robots? As a teacher in training, I am instructed that we are to not only teach for academic
success, but to bestow tools to generate well rounded effective citizens. Another problem found in the
merit pay program is, teachers have

The Effects Of Stress On Stress And Stress
Merriam Webster defines stress as a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or
mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation (Stress, 2015). Many people think of stress as
being overworked or overwhelmed, but stress can be caused by all facets of everyday life. Through the
evaluation of my stress self assessment and the course readings, it has become abundantly evident that
stress impacts the body, is affected by motivation and emotions, and by understanding the psychology
of stress it makes everyday stress significantly easier to manage.
Stress assessments can be key to understanding your stress level, the causes of stress in your life, and
more importantly how stress is currently affecting you. After taking two online stress evaluations, I
have discovered that I am significantly more stressed that I was previously willing to admit. Both tests
revealed that I am in extreme danger of stress induced health problems and I was able to directly relate
many of my current health issues to the various stress factors in my life. In light of these revelations, I
was not surprised by the test results. Stress left uncontrolled can cause illness, high blood pressure,
strained relationships, headaches, fatigue, depression and anxiety to name a few (Stress Management,
2000). For me, the signs of stress are being chronically tense, easily agitated, or having a prolonged
feeling of being overwhelmed. When you have no control over stress, all kinds of

Bubonic Plague Research Paper
Bubonic plague is an infectious disease that is spread by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. These bacteria
remain in a dormant state primarily in a rat flea s foregut. Once the flea has bitten a victim it
regurgitates the contents in its foregut into the bite location. Once the bacterium has entered into a
mammal s warm body it begins to reproduce and spread throughout the mammal s body. The
reproduction of this bacterium creates large painful swollen lymph nodes which are called buboes.
Once these buboes get large enough they begin to ooze infected body fluid so that any contact
between an infected person and a healthy person will facilitate the spread of this disease. (The Mayo

(The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012)
It was believed in the middle ages that this disease was caused by poor hygiene, bad eating habits,
corrupted humid air, and a lack of rest. Once a person was thought to be infected the doctors would
move them to a non infected area thinking that this would heal the persons illness instead this
transported the disease even further than normal. In modern times we have made leaps and bounds to
control this illness. One of the main problems of the plague is that it is not treatable until the victim
gets tested and confirmed that the plague is the illness. Once that is done they will start receiving high
doxycycline doses and many other types of antibiotics. The mortality rate for someone that is not
treated is 50 90% compared to treated cases of 1 15%.
The bubonic plague has been around for almost two thousand years. In most early cases the plague
was spread from China along the Silk Road. The Silk Road was the over land trade route from the
orient that silk, spices, and other trade able goods from the east to western Europe. In most cases rats
carrying the Oriental Rat Flea or another animal carrying the flea would move to a new location. Once
that animal died the flea would move to another host which could be a human. Once bitten by the flea
a bubo begins to form when the bubo begins to ooze fluid the illness can then be passed through
touch. As stated above in the Middle

  • 2. The Framers Of The Constitution Civics and Citizenship The Framers of the Constitution looked to history for examples of governments that directly represented the people. Early Romans wanted to create a lasting republic, a government in which citizens rule themselves through elected representatives. A republic is a government in which citizens rule themselves through elected representatives. Americans liked the roman form of government but also knew that eventually the Roman republic became a dictatorship, a government in which one person rules with all authority. The Framers wanted to avoid the Roman s fate. They wanted to create a permanent government where the informed citizens ran their own government. Another historic document the Founders looked to was the Magna Carta. In 1215, many of the landowning gentry of England rebelled against the unpopular King John. In order to help restore peace the rebels forced the king to sign the Magna Carta. It placed limits on the power of the English king and made Parliament the ruling body in England. The English Bill of Rights (1689) was another document the Framers looked to. It gave the citizens of England certain rights such as freedom of speech and separation of powers. John Locke published Two Treatise [essays] of Government in 1689. In these tow documents Locke proposed that every person had the rights of life, liberty and property. The government cannot take these unalienable rights away unless they have a reason. Locke also stated that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mansa was the fourteenth century emperor of the Mali Empire, his land was laden with many lucrative natural resources, most notably gold. Mansa Musa vast wealth was only one piece of his rich legacy however. When Mansa Musa came to power in 1312 most of Europe was racked by famine and civil wars. He was a devoted Muslim and built many schools based on the teachings of the Quran, there is also a saying that every Friday when he stopped, while on his Hajj, he ordered a Mosque to be built, because that is a Muslim holy day. He sent many students to Islamic universities in northern Africa. But how did Mansa Musa become such a devoted Muslim? Pastoral North Africans called Berbers had longed traded with West African with the Berbers offering salt for West African gold. West African gold for salt may seem like a bad trade however salt is very important to the human body because without salt, we die. The Berbers were early converts to Islam and Islam spread along those pre existing trade routes between North and South Africa. The first converts in Mali were traders who benefited from having a religious as well as a commercial connection in the North and the rest of the Mediterranean. The kings in the North and East then followed the traders thinking it would give them prestige. Islam then became the religion of the elites of West Africa which meant the Muslim kings were trying to extend their power over largely non Muslim populations which worshipped traditional African Gods and spirits. As a devout Muslim he took a particular interest in Timbuktu, already a center of religion and learning prior to its annexation. Explain how the writer used language features to make that idea seem important. In the short story The Red Sari by Apriana Taylor, there are many themes being conveyed in the story, the most prominent being the cultural conflict and tension between the narrator and the Indian beggars. Language features play a vital role in the story, and Taylor uses language features to convey his important ideas and messages to the reader. In The Red Sari, Apirana Taylor also shows that cultural differences can lead to misunderstanding and discomfort. He uses the first person narrative to show his actions and thoughts. Christ, if they want the other arm, they ll have to look under that car. That crunched up concertina car wearing a traffic light for a hat paints a vivid image inside the reader s mind on the severity of the car crash. We can infer from these lines that very few people cared about the car crash except for the people who helped. Negative connotations and metaphors help paint a picture in the reader s mind of the scene. The words crunched up concertina and the metaphor wearing a traffic light for a hat both show evidently how the car had been damaged in the accident. Overall, the use of vivid imagery to portray the severity of the car crash scene helps me to understand the theme of cultural differences, with the citizens of New Delhi caring minimally for such an ... The struggle between labor and management is illustrated in the story of the Molly Maguires, an Irish group which settled in eastern Pennsylvania. The Molly Maguires were perhaps the most gruesome chapter in the history of Pennsylvania. The violent and dramatic case of these people is a true life murder and detective story. To understand the conflict the Molly Maguires went through with mine officials for better conditions, it is necessary to go back to early nineteenth century Ireland, where ... Almost every miner was in debt to the company for rent and food which came out of his wages. The English and the Welsh held the best jobs in the mines and discriminated against the Irish. In order to fight back, the Irish formed a secret organization known as the Molly Maguires. The name of the society was taken from a group of anti landlord agitators in the 1840s led by a widow named Molly Maguire. The Molly Maguires organized about 1860 within a respectable society, known as the Ancient Order of Hiberians, it was most likely a revival of what was known as Ribbonism of Ireland. This had been formed to defend the interests of peasants against the oppression of the absentee landlords. Its methods were those of terrorism. The Molly Maguires, also known as the Buckshots, White Boys, and Sleepers , centered in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, more particularly in Cass Township. Although they began as a crude labor organization whose tactics were aimed at bettering the then unbearable working conditions, the Mollies soon attracted undesirable elements from the rough mining towns, and became a criminal organization. The members of this organization sought to dominate the politics of the county, and resorted to violence to take care of unfair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Jane Eyre Phrenology Essay Phrenology is the study of attributing specific personality traits and behaviors to specific portions of the head, and was discovered by Franz Joseph Gall sometime in either the 18th or 19th century (Gross). The word phrenology is derived from two Greek words meaning mind and knowledge (Price). His revolutionary, although faulty and erroneous, science of the mind changed the study of psychology. Victorian England was a supporter of Gall s work, and was a popular method of trying to understand the fellow man. Jane Eyre, a novel written by Charlotte Brontë, depicts many unique characters, including that of the main protagonist. Jane Eyre is an unusual girl when compared to others of her time in society, and was rarely understood. Through the use of phrenology, Jane s personality and behaviors could be attributed to her cephalic anatomy. To be concise, Jane is perceived as weird because of the shape of her head. Although this science is nonsensical to modern scholars, phrenology was accepted in the English society of the 1700s by the world of academia. Phrenology could be easily used to examine and study the mind of Jane Eyre in those days, and could have happened in the novel if Brontë had wished to do so. How Does Lenore Characterize In The Raven Zack Griffin Mrs. Ruiz English 2 27 February 2018 Guilt is Evermore I think that Nicholas Rowe said it best when he said Guilt is the source of sorrows the avenging fiend that follows us behind with whips and stings. In Edgar Allen Poe s narrative poem The Raven The narrator is in a state of deep depression, guilt that he let his rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore (The Raven) get away from him, the guilt has been eating away at him to the point where he is driven mad. I believe in this poem there was no raven, just a guilty mad man who s imagination overcame him, the guilt and regret of never being able to see his perfect maiden again pushes him closer and closer towards insanity until he snaps. I believe that there was no raven in this story at all, just a man cursing life itself for his hardships. In the poem the narrator says to the raven, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian shore! (The Raven) saying that the raven is a demon that has come straight from hell, he is saying this because the raven said that he will see lenore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time of the play is at midnight in December, midnight is traditionally the darkest most eerie time of day, and nothing lives in the winter, everything is gloomy and lacking life and color. African Americans have increased attending colleges by the 1940s while being funded by the U.S Department of Education however limited monies supporting HBCUs casted attention away from HBCUs. In response Fredrick D. Patterson, then president of Tuskegee Institute, suggested private funding efforts. As a result, in 1944 presidents of 29 private HBCUs created the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The UNCF served solely as a fund raising organization but evidently turned its attention on advocacy and educational roles for African American students (Gasman, 2007). The Higher Education Act of 1965 amended in Title III authorized funds for enhancing HBCUs by strengthening their College and Universities Program and the Graduate Institutions (U.S. Department of Education, 1991). • 35. Merit Pay Demise Essay The dispute surrounding merit pay for teachers has existed for decades in many countries across the globe. The debate has been particularly heated in the United States. Since the 1920s, public schools began awarding pay mostly according to title, and seniority rather than merit. Numerous attempts have been made to introduce merit pay systems throughout this period, but it never gained widespread popularity on a national level. Now, however, political leaders such as Barack Obama have supported merit pay for teachers. This has reinvigorated the debate, with many groups falling on either side. The National Education Association, for example, has opposed merit pay, while the United Federation of Teachers supports the idea. Merit pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 99). One of the main issues with merit pay for teachers is found in the manner in which it is measured. Most of the new performances pay laws and union contracts measure effectiveness, at least in part, by looking at the students test scores from one year to the next. One test score cannot paint a full picture of a student s accomplishment. Most teachers will report that a test will only show part of the picture. Standardized tests do not reflect life lessons, effective citizen traits, or character building traits that were taught that year. All of these traits thrive in an effective teacher s curriculum. Following this further, this form of measurement leads to, yet another, pitfall, such as creating a narrowed curriculum (Ramirez, 2010, p. 56). Teachers may perhaps start teaching to the test . This unnatural, narrow curriculum may diminish the American education system s progress. Do we want our children being educated as robots? As a teacher in training, I am instructed that we are to not only teach for academic success, but to bestow tools to generate well rounded effective citizens. • 37. The Effects Of Stress On Stress And Stress Merriam Webster defines stress as a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation (Stress, 2015). Many people think of stress as being overworked or overwhelmed, but stress can be caused by all facets of everyday life. Through the evaluation of my stress self assessment and the course readings, it has become abundantly evident that stress impacts the body, is affected by motivation and emotions, and by understanding the psychology of stress it makes everyday stress significantly easier to manage. Stress assessments can be key to understanding your stress level, the causes of stress in your life, and more importantly how stress is currently affecting you. After taking two online stress evaluations, I have discovered that I am significantly more stressed that I was previously willing to admit. Both tests revealed that I am in extreme danger of stress induced health problems and I was able to directly relate many of my current health issues to the various stress factors in my life. In light of these revelations, I was not surprised by the test results. Stress left uncontrolled can cause illness, high blood pressure, strained relationships, headaches, fatigue, depression and anxiety to name a few (Stress Management, 2000). For me, the signs of stress are being chronically tense, easily agitated, or having a prolonged feeling of being overwhelmed. When you have no control over stress, all kinds of ... • 38. Bubonic Plague Research Paper Bubonic plague is an infectious disease that is spread by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. These bacteria remain in a dormant state primarily in a rat flea s foregut. Once the flea has bitten a victim it regurgitates the contents in its foregut into the bite location. Once the bacterium has entered into a mammal s warm body it begins to reproduce and spread throughout the mammal s body. The reproduction of this bacterium creates large painful swollen lymph nodes which are called buboes. Once these buboes get large enough they begin to ooze infected body fluid so that any contact between an infected person and a healthy person will facilitate the spread of this disease. (The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012) It was believed in the middle ages that this disease was caused by poor hygiene, bad eating habits, corrupted humid air, and a lack of rest. Once a person was thought to be infected the doctors would move them to a non infected area thinking that this would heal the persons illness instead this transported the disease even further than normal. In modern times we have made leaps and bounds to control this illness. One of the main problems of the plague is that it is not treatable until the victim gets tested and confirmed that the plague is the illness. Once that is done they will start receiving high doxycycline doses and many other types of antibiotics. The mortality rate for someone that is not treated is 50 90% compared to treated cases of 1 15%. The bubonic plague has been around for almost two thousand years. In most early cases the plague was spread from China along the Silk Road. The Silk Road was the over land trade route from the orient that silk, spices, and other trade able goods from the east to western Europe. In most cases rats carrying the Oriental Rat Flea or another animal carrying the flea would move to a new location. Once that animal died the flea would move to another host which could be a human. Once bitten by the flea a bubo begins to form when the bubo begins to ooze fluid the illness can then be passed through touch. As stated above in the Middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
