Essay about Alexander The Great
Alexander The Great was one of the greatest emperors and leaders of the world. In fact, he was
the only emperor to be called, quot; The Great. quot; He had studied under a great Greek
Philosopher, Aristotle, who taught Alexander literature, science, medicine, philosophy and to
speak and write well. Alexander was the son of Philip of Macedonia. Philip became king of
Macedonia in 359 B.C., but died in 336 B.C. He left his kingdom to Alexander.
Alexander ruled for only thirteen years but he succeeded far beyond what his father had planned.
After his father s death in 336 B.C., Alexander became king of Macedonia. He strengthened his
claim of king by quickly stopping revolts by Athens, which tried to break away from Macedonia,
by destroying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 332 B.C., Alexander first conquered Tyre, Gaza and then Egypt in 327 B.C.
In 331 B.C. Alexander defeated the main Persian army in Masopotamia. When the Persian king,
Darius, was killed by his own soldiers, Alexander declared himself king of Persia Alexander was
determined to conquer the whole world.
In 327 B.C., Alexander led his armies into India. Soon after that, the Macedonians refused to go
further and wanted to return to their homes and families because they had been fighting for six
years. Reluctantly, Alexander agreed to turn back. He arrived in Babylon in 323 B.C. but shortly
caught a fever and died. He was not yet 33 years old.
Alexander the Great admired Athens and the Greek culture so he brought many Greek ideas to
the non Greek people of his empire. He spread Greek civilization throughout wester Asia, and
opened the east to Greek trade. Alexander had a very open mind. He adopted ideas and customs
from the people he had conquered. He married a Persian princess and Persians served in his army.
Wherever he conquered lands, he made new cities. The most famous city he named Alexandria, in
Egypt.
Greek civilization, after Alexander s death, is called the Hellenistic age. Hellenistic means
quot;Greek speaking quot; or quot;acting like a Greek. quot; The Hellenistic world spread far

Higher Courts Ensure Federal Laws Among All States
Higher courts help to ensure that federal law carries out evenly among all states; a message of
unity isn t sent when each state has its own exceptions to the law. Higher courts also look at the
overall picture and the impact that the law has; the point is that federal law is the main concern,
and state law doesn t make much difference. Therefore, it is necessary for the higher courts to
step in and ensure that any issues at a federal level reign the same in any court/lower judicial
system. There are three important factors that are used to determine if higher courts should
accept a case on certiorari. The first is a split in the circuits, meaning that because of the
importance of the case, it needs to be heard in a higher court. It is important to note that an
obvious grant would occur in a conflict among circuits. The second point is polity in which
events such as segregation have a significant impact in how society operates (Murphy, Pritchett,
Epstein Knight, 2006). The third factor is legal importance specifically confusion of
interpretation or societal importance. There are a couple of examples that point out the
importance of federal law and these three points listed above. One example is U.S. vs. Nixon
which proves that not only is no one individual above the law no matter their title, but also one
that needed to be addressed by a higher court to make the right decision and set an example for
future cases if they were ever to occur; this supports the first factor

Essay On Meteora
Meteora, a step closer to the clouds!
The word Meteora means in Greek, suspended in air and, of course, refers to the saints monasteries
erected here secular orthodoxy. What created this unique cluster of rocks remains a mystery of
nature, and this despite the advanced theories of scientists, unproven theories until today. But the
more spectacular is the landscape offered by nature man Meteora with art as he joined his art,
creating one of the most beautiful places not only in Greece but worldwide.
In the ninth century, a group of Greek Ermita has sought refuge in inaccessible caves of Meteora.

an orphaned, isolated girl, living with a family that disapproves of her. As she grew, she exceled

Furthermore, after being deceived by him, Jane goes to Marsh End, where she reclaims her aspect

Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyrestill raises relevant questions to readers; like (4) how abuse or unfair

What Is My Swim Career Essay
My Swim Career; My Life s Motivation.
If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren t willing to do. Michael

When I think of my swim career, it s these words spoken by Michael Phelps that I feel most sum
up my journey with this incredible sport. My swim career is not a story that boasts of incredible
talent or greatness, but rather one of how my constant sacrifice for the sport I love has contributed
greatly to the place I hold in my swim career today.

Summary of Canadian Confederation Essay
During the years before Confederation, there was much happening in the colonies that would
eventually unite to become the Dominion of Canada in 1867. The Fathers of Confederation were
the architects of the plan that resulted in the proposal that would bring the individual British
American colonies together under a Federalist system. There were three main conferences which
were held and to be included as a Father of Confederation. These conferences were The
Charlottetown Conference 1864, The Quebec Conference 1864, and The London Conference 1866.
The Fathers of Confederation for the most part were leading politicians from the British Colonies
interested in forming a Federal Union or a Confederation. Although not all colonies joined ... Show

This was of a British North America that stretched from Atlantic to Pacific, from the U.S. boarder to
the Arctic hinterland. Britain not only rules the Colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick,
Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Vancouver Island, and British Columbia, but it also asserted
it s authority over all of the lands in the interior that were administered by the Hudson Bay
Company. An evolutionary process which could bring all of these lands together under one Federal
Government would create a country larger than the United States and with the best chances to stand
up to U.S., Spanish and Russian encroachment upon British North America.
Political union was viewed as a solution to many problems and ultimately a larger politic union

Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and possibly Newfoundland. In 1863/64. The idea

When news of this meeting became known in the Canada s, John A Macdonald decided to lead a
contingent of coalition government and opposition members to Charlottetown to propose a larger
union of the colonies. They campaigned for an invitation to the

Bouncy Ball Lab Report
INTRODUCTION: The Med Squad lab group was approached by a local manufacturer to create
a toy bouncy ball that is both nontoxic and eco friendly using only polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl
acetate, and sodium borate chemicals. The interactions between polyvinyl alcohol and sodium
borate, and polyvinyl acetate and sodium borate make an ideal bouncy ball for the manufacturers.
The experiment was divided up in two weeks. Week one consisted of making the bouncy balls and
week two consisted of testing the bouncy balls in different environments: at room temperature,
heated, and chilled. By dividing up the experiment into two weeks, it was found to be very
effective because the group had a whole class period to make the bouncy balls and then had... Show

The group first measured the masses of the four bouncy balls and then measured how high the
ball bounced, being dropped at 20 inches, in room temperature and recorded the data. Then
heated up water in a 250mL beaker using a hot plate to about 85 90 degrees Celsius, put the
bouncy ball in a smaller beaker and held it in the water for five minutes, making sure not to get
the ball wet, repeat this procedure for all four bouncy balls. After the five minutes were up, the
masses of the balls were measured and then tested the ball to see if when the ball was heated, it
might affect the height of the bounce. The results were recorded. Next, a 250mL beaker was
filled up with water about half way and then put ice in the water to make it cool down to 5 10
degrees Celsius. A bouncy ball was then put in a smaller beaker and held the small beaker with
the ball inside the ice water for five minutes, doing this for all four bouncy balls. After the time
was up, the group again measured the mass and tested the height of the bounce and recorded the
results. When dropping the ball to measure the height of the bounce, the ball was dropped from 20

Your first patient this week has a problem of the genitourinary tract that has plagued him since
birth. Hypospadias is a birth deficiency of the penis that generally has four characteristics: The
urethral opening is located on the underneath the penis, instead of the tip, and may exit the penis
anywhere along its shaft as high as the scrotum. The urethral opening is remarkably narrow. The
entire foreskin may be gathered on the topside of the penis. The penis itself may also be curved
to one side. Hypospadias is noticed at birth; however, if the abnormalities are mild it may be
harder to diagnosis and may be diagnosis later. Hypospadias is corrected with surgery, usually
when the patient is between six and 18 months old. The purpose of the surgery is to reposition the...

Sensory Perception

The sensory system is a part of the nervous system. It is responsible for processing our sensory
information, and it is the way in which we make contact in our everyday lives through our five
senses sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. (IML Training, 2012) Our sensory receptors allow us
to pick up information ears, eyes, nostrils, tongue and skin. All senses evolve to collect their distinct
type of information about our environment and to inform us of our status within it. (Goldstein, 2009)

The early wiring of the brain and sensory helps explains why some people are born without a sense
and can later regain it. An example would be deaf people receiving cochlear implants later in their
lives, causing difficulty integrating the new sensory information. (Humphries, 2011)
There are reasons to trust the accuracy or inaccuracy of sensory data. When considering that a
person touches a hot stove or iron, our sensory information of feeling immediately messages our
brain to remove our hand. There will be other incidents where our sensory appears to be working
well; environmental influences can distort interpretation of data that are being sent to us.

Analysis Of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
The Effects of Holding onto Crutches Of course you always had that detached quality as if you
were playing a game without much concern over whether you won or lost, and now that you ve
lost the game, not lost but just quit playing, you have that sort of charm that usually only
happens in very old or hopelessly sick people, the charm of the defeated (30). In this quote,
Maggie, a character in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, is expressing to her husband Brick how he
surrounds his life with a defeated aura. This defeated aura restricts him from overcoming his
struggles and blinds him from seeing the future. He holds onto to several crutches, in hopes that
his struggles will be pushed aside and he can escape reality. These crutches come in several
forms, but are essentially just excuses. People all over the world, such as the contestants on one
of America s most watched TV shows The Biggest Loser, hold onto crutches and find excuses for
not pursuing a future outcome. On the show, overweight contestants are trained to lose weight
and eat healthy in order to give their body a second chance. All contestants have a story behind
their weight gain, and every time it was because they could not let go of a crutch and chose to eat
their way out of hardships. Maggie s husband Brick does essentially the same, but with different
crutches and different methods of escape. So, through Tennessee Williams s play Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof, it can be proved that holding onto crutches hampers people from

those of healthy individuals, and found some noticeable differences in those who were more
exposed to 1,2 DCP. They had a test group of 8 men with cholangiocarcinoma and a control group

The extent of the GST T1 1 expressions differ from person to person. Hardly any normal human
samples had the expression for CYP2E1. Comparing the diseased human livers to those of the
control group, the test group had similar expressions of GST T1 1. None of the test group
samples showed an expression for the gene CYP2E1. For the test group, there was the dominant
presence of a marker of DNA double strand break, Оі H2AX. For the control group, less than half
of the liver samples displayed this marker. It was clear that those who were exposed to 1,2 DCP
had more of an expression of this DNA marker in their non neoplastic biliary epithelial cells of the
large bile duct than those in the control group with no exposure to 1,2 DCP. Those livers which
had been exposed to 1,2 DCP had signs of a tumor protein in their cells and bile ducts called p53.
This study is extremely difficult to read if it is something you are not used to. The researchers are
assuming that you know all of the concepts which made this especially difficult to comprehend.
Also, there may not have been enough liver and bile duct samples to make a definitive claim of the
relationship between 1,2 DCP and cholangiocarcinoma. The researchers were extremely thorough
and did not have to spend too much time searching for the affected men or the healthy livers which
saved time and money for this

Hawaiian Mythology Research Paper
Hawaiian Mythology has a very long and rich history. One way Hawaiian Mythology is unique is
that they communicate their legends, traditions, and myths orally. This limits outsiders from being
able to fully grasp the culture. As a result, this aspect of Hawaiian culture creates a special bond and
understanding between members of the Hawaiian culture. A significant part of Hawaiian culture is
Hawaiian worship. Hawaiian worship is focused on natural occurrences; natural occurrences, or in
other words nature myths, such as rainfall, sunshine, or fruitful harvests.
Within Hawaiian Mythology, there are four primary Gods: Ku, Kane, Kanaloa, and Lono. Each
god represents a specific natural phenomena or natural occurrence. Each God is associated with a
specific color or scent or image. While each God represents a natural wonder, they are physically

The Hawaiian peoples worshiped Ku seasonally; specifically in the summer season. While
worshipping Ku the Hawaiians would offer the God of war, seizer of all land, human sacrifices.
Kane is the God of life and presides over all of the other primary gods. Kane is often referred to as
the creator of Hawaiian mythology. Kane is elevated over the others because he became self
aware and separated himself from Po, the chaos of formless creation. Kane s ability to become self
aware enabled other gods, such as Ku and Lono, to escape Po. Once all three gods escaped Po,
they created Earth, or in other words, the Hawaiian islands. The god Kanaloa is often paired with,
or balances the god Kane. Kane plays a diverse roll in Hawaiian mythology. Some believe Kanaloa
to be the god of the underworld

Theme Of Alcoholism In The Picture Of The Dorian Gray
Sherwin B. Nuland proclaims that There is a nice Victorian reticence in denying the probability
of a miserable prelude to mortality . Wilde s character in The Picture of the Dorian Gray , Lord
Henry, the source of evil influence for the focaliser, clearly conveys this in his aristocratic
indulgence, lack of emotion, and seemingly dismissive attitude to death. Henry is able to twist
Dorian s soul into a malicious replication of his own arguably causing his fate at the end. It s
clear this exploration of human vulnerability is still prevalent today as The Goldfinch reflects in

Vodka is a motif of Theo s growing indulgence throughout the novel. Firstly, Tartt reflects Theo as
having started to say yes, to impress him but rejects the vodka, reflecting his naГЇvety and good

vodka, a habit I soon picked up from him (Boris) conveying how his childhood sweetness has
been eradicated by Boris slavic lifestyle. The sharp juxtaposition between the anxious to casual
nature shows a change in Theo s morals, normalising excessive amounts of alcohol. There is a
similar motif in The Picture of Dorian Gray where Wilde conveys Dorian as having taken too
much champagne which is Wilde mocking the Victorian s aristocratic world of indulgence,
deliberately portraying him as arrogant. Tartt s image of vodka and Wilde s champagne clearly
reflects the class different between the two protagonists. While Wilde s novel is set in a

Manorialism Dbq
Economic systems have been enforced in society to create order. Therefore various systems have
influenced many nations, regions, and groups of people throughout the course of history.
Manorialism is one primary example that demonstrates the influences an economic system can have
on a nation. It was a prominent system throughout the Middle Agesin Western Europe. Manorialism
is considered the economic side of feudalism, a political system where kings in Europe gave away
land to nobles in return for their loyalty, military service and labor.
Another essential example is mercantilism which was dominant during the Age of Exploration.
Mercantilism is a system that relies on the colonies existence to make the mother country wealthy.

Gold and silver brought the great wealth of European nations as well as the enslavement of the

the earth, as they have been in past years; and to penetrate into the bowels of the earth requires
greater effort... the Spaniards are not willing to do the work themselves, and the natives cannot
be forced to do so... it is necessary to acquire negro slaves [enslaved Africans], who are brought
from the coasts of Africa . Spain s interactions with its colonies in the Americas were frequent,
therefore resources such as gold and silver began to reduce, this is why they had to dig deeper
into the earth. Therefore it was essential for Europe to get laborers to work in the mines colonies
because Spaniards were unwilling to do the work and the Native Americans were unable to do

Opium In The Gambler, The Nun, And The Radio
The word opium is utilized several times in this short story. An opium is an addictive, narcotic
drug that relieves pain or brings ecstasy. In a figurative sense, it is a way to avoid reality. For
some, alcohol allows for just that. For others, it could be music, sexual intercourse, gambling, and
many more. In The Gambler, the Nun, and the Radio, the thin Mexican says, Religion is the opium
of the poor (Hemingway 478). But, this statement is not necessarily true, which Mr. Frazer soon
realizes. Several opiums, or escapes from reality, exists, as this story shows.
Although religion is not the universal opium of the people, it helps many escape from reality.

He refuses to accept the fact that he has to retire from bullfighting until finally, his coleta, which is

Mr. Frazer plays his radio every night while he is at the hospital. Even though his escape from
reality is based around an object, it is still his opium. But Seattle he came to know very well...He
lived in Seattle from two o clock on, each night, hearing the pieces that all the different people
asked for, and it was as real as Minneapolis...Mr. Frazer grew very fond of Seattle, Washington
(480). Mr. Frazer s radio allows him to travel to different places without having to leave since he is
unable to. He learns to listen to his radio without thinking (480). Escape starts to become an
addictive thing, just like an opium drug, and it transforms into something that will soon obscure him
completely from the real world.
In certain parts of this story, opiums are compared with others, which suggests that one s opium
is not always another s. The Mexicans came and brought beer but it was not good beer (480). At
first, it seems that the beer tastes bad. but then Cayetano and Mr. Frazer have a brief discussion
about it, saying, Three of your countrymen were here. Sent by the police to see me. They brought
some beer. It was probably bad. It was bad (482).

Masculinity
In my opinion, Masculinity versus femininity is about the value system refers to genders s role in
society. If some country has a low number of masculinuty, means that country s values systems
refers to feminimity which is the society is caring others and have a good life quality. But if the
country has a high score of masculinity, that is mean the country s society is driven by competition
and thought that be the winner means succsessfull.
Example:
US has 62 for masculinity, it means that US s society is much to masculin. They want to have a lot
of achievement as their succes standard, they would love to compete and be the winner instead.
Japan has 95 for their score, it shows that Japanese is an absolute masculin, their succsess is define
by they become the winner or they can be the best in their field or not. So Japanese can easily

The Reforms Under The Npm Umbrella
6.04.2015 1.2. Background Healthcare system across different countries has been affected by
NPM reforms. Decentralisation as one of the main reforms under the NPM umbrella has started
in different countries from different positions (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011, p. 102). For
example, central government in the UK has praised the virtues of decentralisation, but in the
early 1980s the UK was relatively a centralised country. Administrative decentralisation has been
the preferred form. Few new powers have been given to local governments in the UK. In this
case decentralisation has transferred authority to a range of specialised administrative bodies.
However, the UK did experience a very significant act of political decentralisation when the Blair
administration created elected assemblies for Scotland and Wales. When Cameron became

Much Ado About Nothing Analysis
Kenneth Branagh s 1993 film of Much Ado About Nothing is a British and American romantic
comedy, based on William Shakespeare s renowned production. In sixteenth century Messina, Sicily
set on and around Governor Leonato s estate, villains are outwitted, lovers wed and dancing
concludes an underlining major conflict, ado about nothing. Suspicion of a deceived wedding, in
which husbands are obliged to be controlled and betrayed, but also greatly desire to be married.
Branagh employs visual humour through fundamental themes, recurring motifs and symbols,
which exemplify abstract ideas, or concepts. Thus, this assists to emphasise the significance of
Shakespeare s dialogue throughout specific scenes in the adaptation. To begin with, themes are the
fundamental and commonly general notions explored within Branagh s film and Shakespeare s
literary work. The ideal of social refinement depicts each character s intriguing manner of language
that Renaissance nobles endeavoured for in their social interactions. The film s language is
significantly associated with metaphor and ornamented by rhetoric, as is the original play.
Benedick and Claudio both aristocratic soldiers, as well as Don Pedro an important nobleman from
Aragon instigate the kind of witty mockery, that courtiers used to attract attention and support in
noble households. In the opening scene, Benedick and his companions attempt to present their
refined social graces both in their behaviour and dialogue. Visual

Lone Wolf s Attacks
1)Goals As leaders responsible for the security of our own constituents, the most important goals
would need to be the security of British civilians working in Sureno. The deaths of innocent
civilians, especially in a foreign land would undoubtedly lead to strong media attention and
eventually public indignation that would be aimed at both the inability of the government to
protect them as well as a public sentiment for retributive justice against One Way, especially via
the use of military action. As it is also known that One Way leaders have called for members of
Supreme in foreign countries to carry out acts of violence, it will also be important to maintain
domestic security from either recruited or inspired Lone Wolfs attacks, which... Show more content

The British government should consider the attacks on British companies in Soreno as criminal
acts of violence. This should be followed by condemnation of any violence against any British
entity and state resolve to end the conflict. However, we should also explain that given the
complex political situation in Soreno, it would be unwise to commit British lives to a foreign and
uncertain conflict, especially it aggravates Soreno s opposition and motivate further attacks on
British targets. The conflict should also be presented as a benign movement fighting in the
interests of democracy and social justice. The small number of British troops deployed in Soreno
will only be for the guarantee of peace in facilitation of the negotiation process and the protection
of British citizens and companies. This will be argued to the public as necessary in order to
resolve the root of the issue, prevent further attacks both by Liberty and Honor and One Way and
prevent a spread of extremist ideology which may inspire further inspired attacks to undermine
British society. The political narrative should also point out that One Way represent a narrow sect

A virtuous circle. And BT will also use it to pay dividends to its shareholders and reward other
stakeholders [BT Report. 2017].
BT strategy is founded on broadening and deepening its customer relationships.
To deliver sustainable profitable revenue growth, BT needs stronger relationships with its
customers. That means making sure the company stay relevant to them as markets, lifestyles and
technologies change.
The three pillars of BT s strategy help the company to do that: delivering superior customer service;
transforming our costs; and investing for growth. The better our customer service, the more the
company sells and the less time and money is spend in putting things right. And the better the
company manages its costs, the better value for money BT can offer to its customers and the more
it invest in giving customers what they need today and tomorrow. These are the principles that
drive BT business model [BT Report. 2017].
For 2017/18 BT s strategy is evolving. The three pillars remain broadly the same but with a wider
focus on the overall customer experience rather than just on customer service. And with the
acquisition of EE limited, the company s investment areas are evolving to focus on having the best

Introduction to Semiotics
Bharatanatyam A journey from temples to the proscenium
An introduction
Bharatanatyam is a Sanskrit word, which means the dance of Bharata (India). True to its name, it is
one of the oldest and most popular dance forms of India. It originated in the temples of Southern
India and was later codified and documented as a performing art by the Tanjore Quartet. It is now
the most popular Indian classical dance and is appreciated worldwide. Bharatanatyam is a language
in itself. Like Sanskrit language, bharatanatyam follows strict rules and is technically sound. The
grammar of the steps is followed rigorously. It is danced to Carnatic music and the mathematical

Many padams (narrative pieces) depicted the love story of a nayak (hero) and a nayika (heroine).
In most cases, the nayak was in the form of Lord Krishna, or Shiva or any other mythological
hero. While Shiva was said to be serious, Krishna was full of pathos and love. Thus, the
choreographies mainly concentrated on Sringara rasa (love).
Gradually the devadasi system started getting plagued with several notorious ills. Around this
time, it was customary for the Indian people hailing from royal or aristocratic families to invite a
devadasi to a celebration, to sing and dance and perform. The best dancers were invited to the
royal courts to perform, in return which they were provided with a shelter. In this period, the
position of the devadasis could be compared to that of an apsara (celestial nymph) who danced in
the courts of the Gods in order to please them. Eventually, the rich men and the aristocrats attracted
the devadasis with good money and luxurious lifestyles and lured them into being their mistresses.
The devadasis were easily enticed to the kind of lifestyle offered to them. Thus, the sringara rasa in
their choreographies converted into eroticism and they danced merely to appease the rich men. As
consequence of which, these devadasis who were held at par with the temple priests lost their
respect in the society.
By this time, the Europeans had arrived to India. Their

For this report, 3 of the 10 Heuristic principles proposed by Jakob Nielsen were used to briefly
evaluate the website aiming to identify major usability issues with the site. These Heuristic
principles used were;
1. Consistency and Standards
2. Visibility of System Status and
3. Match between Systems and Real World
Some Usability issues found from this evaluation were;

2). This should be properly categorized.
2
Another usability issue is that users clicking on the Photos or Gallery link on the site are expected
to see pictures of different meals being served and some interiors of the restaurant. The Gallery
link shows abstract pictures not related to the site (see Fig .3) and the Photos link shows video
clips of the restaurants rather than pictures. These shows lack of consistency.
Figure 3. Pictures shown in the Gallery menu
2.2 Visibility of System Status
It is assumed the first page that comes up on a website is its home page with some design
features to gives potential customers some insight on what the site is all about. The visual design
of the site s home page has failed to convey any substantial information that it is indeed a
restaurant. Basta pasta written on the home page meaning Just Pasta according to google is not
just sufficient enough to indicate it is a restaurant (see Fig. 4). According to Nielsen (1995), users
should always be informed about what is happening at all time on a system through the right
feedbacks. A good visual design of meals being served should be included at the background of the
home page .

Meaning Of Medieval Feudals
Medieval Vassals
Medieval Vassals (Intro)
During the medieval period, kings ruled large areas of land. In order to protect these lands from
invasion, the king would give portions of their lands to the local lords which were called the
Vassals. They governed the lands granted to them by the king and promised to defend it against
conquerors.
Medieval Vassals Definition
Medieval vassals was believed to have been derived from the Latin word vassallus and the Roman
word vassus, which means servant. However, it was also said to have originated from the Celtic
and Welsh term gwas which means a young male feudal tenant.
In the feudal system, Medieval Vassals by definition were people granted the use of a King s land
in return for their services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term vassal originally emerged during the medieval era of the middle ages as the feudal
system was established in England in 1066 after the rest of the country was claimed by William,
The Conqueror.
Medieval Vassals History
The first vassals during the medieval period came from England and were appointed right after the
Norman Conquest. When William the Conqueror invaded the country, all estates that belonged to
England were declared as his property. And to give honor to the Normal soldiers who fought with
him during the conquest, he awarded majority of the lands to them.
After William gained control, the Norman soldier who became and were declared Lords of these
lands began to rule with him. Noble men became Lords and lower military officers became
vassals. The idea of awarding the lands to the Lords basically was to assist the new ruler in
protecting the kingdom from invasion as each Lord was in charged of protecting his own land.
The Medieval Vassals Land
The medieval vassal lands varied in size. The average size of these land, known as fief, were as
small as 1200 acres and as big as 1800 acres. Most of the feudal lands consisted of farm and cultural
lands. Meanwhile, the vassals either lived in castles of the lords or they owned their own

Strength In Football
As presented by (Bompa,1999), Football is a very complicated sport in which there are many
components of fitness that are important. (Garcia Pinillos, 2015) specified The elemental
movement patterns in football require a rapid force development and high power output. It is
essential for a footballer to have good agility in order to avoid tackles and change direction
quickly in order to defend effectively and stop their opponents from getting past. For similar
reasons, Speed is also important for a footballer to possess as it can allow them to beat their
opponents to the ball across a short distance. Another important component is power, as shown by
(Garcia Pinillos 2015). Without power, a footballer wouldn t be able to compete for the ball... Show

Unit 1 Golf Research Paper
Hole In One
Golf is one of the most fun sports in the world, but it is also a game that requires a lot of
patience. There is almost a golf course in every town so it is not hard to find a place to play. You
might say but it s to hard but with these simple tips you can be the king of the course.
What Is Golf?
Golf is a sport in which a player uses clubs to get a ball into a hole usually a great distance away.
There are not many rules in golf except you can not touch the ball with your hands, unless you hit
it out of bounds and are moving it into play. The only other time you can touch a ball is if you put
a marker down on the ground to show where the ball was that you just picked up.

Don t be confused though if one day a friend can golf it is a sport that you can play against
yourself you can just see how low of a score you get by yourself then brag to you friends or
family members. There is also people that say that golf should not be played with carts and prefer
to walk the course, in my opinion, it doesn t really matter, whether you walk the course or use a
golf cart as it doesn t really change the game that much.
Best Courses
Pine Valley golf course in New Jersey is famous for being one of the most difficult golf courses in
the world. With a mixture of beautiful scenery and difficulty. Cypress Point, this course is both
difficult and maybe the most beautiful course. Located in pebble beach. This course has water
surrounding almost every hole.
Golf Balls
You might be wondering is the ball really that important to the game. Well yes and no is it helpful
to have a better ball yes it allows for more control and longer shots. The one thing you have to
remember is a ball can t really make your game better or worse only very good golfers can tell the
difference in the balls. So for right now I would say get a medium of the range ball not to
expensive but not super cheap. A good middle of the line golf ball is

Stereotypes In Black Men And Public Space
Stereotypes are born from fear and ignorance. They are used to wrongly judge an individual or
group. Brent Staples, a black man, is no stranger to this. Black Men and Public Space, written by
Staples, he discusses his experiences as a black man; often being mistaken as a criminal because
of his appearance. Most people see his universal identity and not who he really is. Living in the
city of Chicago as a black man, he is frequently categorized as a thug or aggressor. The purpose of
his essay is to inform the readers about how it feels to be the one who is stereotyped, as well as
to express his discontent of being type casted. As a result of the negative stereotypes involving
black men, Staples has the capacity to negatively alter the space he is in by causing others to fear
him. Equivalently, many people also fear cops because of the stigma they have. Because of this,
the police negatively impact the space they are in. In the article, What Happens When Black People
Learn They Should Fear the Police , Jesse Singal discusses how police brutality has affected the
black community s trust in the police.
Staples often faces stereotypes because of his threatening physical appearance. In fact, during his
night strolls most women he came in contact with would hide their purses and others would walk
towards the opposite side as him. Women in particular are often the ones who fear him. Staples
does not deny the fact that women are the most vulnerable to street violence, and young

thoughts and feelings he expressed in the article. One similar thinking was why addict drowns

department of Philosophy had sexist biased in the decision to reward fellowships to only male
graduate students. She also points out the department is known for covering up issues of sexual
harassmentand harboring perpetrators of sexual harassment, some of which she has personally
experienced. When confiding in a male cohort, Dean, he says her accounts are a
misrepresentation of the department, and that there are, only a few bad apples . Likewise, he
minimizes Summer s points and says she is just upset that she did not win a fellowship from the
department. If Summer were to at this point get angry at the situation, she would be justified in
her anger because of her perspective in the situation, and Dean as a member of the oppressor
group is in the wrong for trying to discredit and perpetuate the gender oppressive environment. To
begin, we should discuss two opposing views on the aptness of anger. A classic stoic argument on
anger comes from the first century roman philosopher Seneca, in his book On Anger. In his first
extract of his book Seneca describes how anger is uncontrollable and therefore useless (Seneca,
101). To support this, in the second extract, Seneca rebukes the argument that anger can be used as
motivation, by stating that he believes virtue and moral outrage at injustice can provide enough
motivation to make change (Seneca, 103). Further, in his third extract, Seneca argues that anger
should not be used as motivation because he believes the very nature of anger is precarious,
therefore untrustworthy. Rather, humans have been equipped with reason for both foreseeing
issues, and to use as motive for change (Seneca, 104). Thus, Seneca says gaining control and
overcoming ones emotions is the only way to live a productive in making change to moral injustice
in the world.
In contrast to Seneca, Amia Srinivasan has an

Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th
Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake,
but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and
thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical
surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself
and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by
the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind
quot;.1
Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance
the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind
is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence
was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm
Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection.
Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons.
The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental
activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first
Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as
being useful and entirely possible.
the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for
objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and
therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable
data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled
against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense
exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an
illusory concept and that it is

The Diversity Of Multicultural Education
According to (Beal Bolick, 2012), Each day s wave of current events reinforces our awareness that
our globally interdependent world is a mГ©lange of people of different colors, religions, languages,
and customs (p. 55). Similar to the global world, classrooms across American today are beginning
to look the same, raising awareness for teaching that is all inclusive. Social studies teachers today
are facing increasing difficulties with creating curriculums that meet their state s mandated
requirements and each individual learner, learning needs. A typical classroom will consist of
students that may not speak English as a second language, a mixture of male and female students,
and more important, children coming from several different backgrounds, having varying life
experiences. Thus, the cultural differences resulted in a greater demand for today s social studies
teacher to practice culturally relevant teaching by using multicultural teaching dimensions, so that
all children can achieve.
Multicultural education will be successful only when the teacher understands the meaning of
multicultural education, take into account results from their assessments of the children is learning
styles, and then make changes to their teaching methods if necessary, by using a wide range of
strategies and teaching techniques, that encourage diversity and acceptance. Multicultural
education resembles instructions conveyed through content integration with real life experiences,

Culture And Culture Of Ireland
INTRO This paper will take a look into the culture of Ireland by taking a look at the five
characteristics of culture. The first section will cover the history of Ireland to illustrate the
connection of a country s struggle and their learned culture. I will attempt to communicate some of
the key aspects that connect an individual culture to the region of the world it inhabits in the
second section. In the third section, I will discuss the language and art of the land will be
discussed to draw lines to the symbols a culture is founded upon. The fourth section of the essay is
dedicated to the characteristic of culture being made up of many components. This is illustrated by
the ethnicity/racial, weather, terrain, and military breakdown of the country. The final section will
be on the dynamic characteristic that interacting cultures learn, develop, and transform due to their
shared contact and friction. Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience,
beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations,
concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in
the course of generations through individual and group striving. Culture is the systems of
knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people. Culture in its broadest sense of cultivated
behavior; is a totality of a person s learned, accumulated experience, which is socially transmitted,

Inclusion For Students With Special Needs
In the Education discipline, there has been a long debate for many years over the topic of inclusion.
Inclusive education is defined as students with disabilities, being supported in age appropriate
general education classrooms, at their home school, and receiving specialized instruction as needed
per the student s IEP (Individualized EducationProgram) within the general education class
curriculum and activities. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school
regularly with their friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help
achieve the student s academic goals and be successful. The topic of inclusion has been
researched for many years. Inclusion will continue to be researched, so that faculty and teachers at
elementary schools can continue to better themselves in inclusion practices for students with
special need, and also to continue to progress towards full inclusion of these students with special
needs in a general education classroom. Since there is a lot in the news about inclusion in schools
across the U.S., for this essay, I began my search about inclusion in the Education discipline by
finding scholarly articles on the subject, along with other online news sources concerning this
subject in my area of study. By doing so, I hope to have a better understanding of inclusion than I
have already attained, so that I am better able to create possible ideas for topics to write future

The short occipitovertebral artery separates into two arteries: the occipital artery and the vertebral

to the posterior vena cava is the hepatic portal system, an abdominal vein formed by the two pelvic

Interplay Of Conflict And Deception In Interpersonal...
Two parts of interpersonal communication go hand in hand are conflict and deception. One can
lead to the other and vice versa. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people
must realize that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of
conflict and deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters.
Interpersonal conflict is an expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive
incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their
goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully understand conflict, the definition can be broken down
further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes, conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully
present until one party s feelings are aware to the other party. This can be done through both
verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011)
explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both parties depend on each other in some way. For
example, the relationship between a child and their parents is a relationship that has high
interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider
it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting. The next part of the definition
declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as incompatible. Incompatible,
means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd

Essay about Meaning and Identity in Public Art
Meaning and Identity in Public Art While visiting the Capitol Square, I felt like I had stepped back
into an ancient
Greek culture. From the colossal pillars supporting the building to the bronze statues of
Greek goddesses among our war heroes it is easy to mistake the Capitol building for a
Greek temple. I want to share with you what the architecture communicated to me, what the subject
of the art was that I observed, and why the building was placed where it now stands. Anyone who
possesses basic knowledge about ancient Greece could surely see the similarities between Greek
temples and the Capitol building. There is even an inscription on the Capitol building stating it is a
Greek revival structure . The building has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What all this detail says to me is that this is a place where powerful people work and where many
important functions of the city take place. I gain a sense that whoever is employed here has a great
deal of wealth, be it in knowledge or money, and tremendous authority. The Greekssaw their rulers
as being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of
the art that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was
a large monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A.
Garfield, Phillip Sheridan, William T.
Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a
Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains)
with a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men
to come from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our
heroes for all to see in bronze at the Capitol. The next monument I saw was a huge angel in bronze
that included an inscription about peace.
Then, on another side of the building, there are two monuments to the soldiers that went to fight at
Iwo Jima. These walls contain etched letters from various soldiers, some of them are happy letters
while others are very sad. There seemed to be many monuments to war than anything else. The

Life Experience Essay
Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach
life lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be
learned from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a
humorous story to go along with it.
The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s.
Ideas were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the
longest time. Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad
would cook for us. I was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best
chicken wings ever. The rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night.
Eventually, the time came for heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group,
asked me to give her a ride since she did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one
of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s. In the time that we missed the group decided that they
wanted to go and toilet paper some of our friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never
done something like this before. However, the excitement of doing this and avoid being caught
appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed to Wal Mart to buy the toiletpaper. We had an
interesting event that happened to us while we were in Wal Mart. The event was when

Workplace Diversity Issues
Workplace diversity policies have emerged among countless companies, in an attempt to increase
diversity among its workers. While noble in idea, the effect it is having is ultimately questionable.
In a very recent study conducted by Dover, Kaiser, and Major, its overall effect to company
diversity is negligible (John Moyer, 2016). The study went on to demonstrate diversity policies can
blind white men to racismand sexism at work and also lead to resentment (Moyer, 2016, p. 1).
This idea is reinforced via Reddit commenters anecdotes and an older study (Moyer, 2016). The
study demonstrated how whites felt threatened by companies that had workplace diversity policies
compared to companies that didn t (Moyer, 2016, p.2). In essence, as the country increases in
diversity, white peoplefeel more threatened (Moyer, 2016, p.3).
This article relates to our class by demonstrating the racial friction in America. In thinking that the
increase in diversity as threatening to the status quo, it is unsurprising that white people feel
threatened and treated unfairly. This perceived unfairness leads to racism and sexism in and out of
the workplace. Which, in turn, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study was very recent, a pleasant surprise, and it raised some interesting thoughts. I wished
the article explained how to go about increasing workplace diversity. On a side note, I found the
use of the word white people almost dehumanizing, which could easily be transferred on to the
media s (and the everyday) use of the word black people. Obviously, I found it odd, due to the fact
I am white, which entails that I have white privilege. Also citing Reddit commenters, while it is the
front page of the internet, was rather odd to see. Unsurprisingly enough, I agree with the study. I
personally remember stories told to me where the mere mention of workplace diversity was filled
with contempt. While sad, it personally validates the study s

Biological Determinism Summary
In his introduction, Gould enlightens us on the views of Socrates. All people should be educated
and belong to one of three classes within society; rulers, auxiliaries and craftsmen. Socrates
believes firmly that if this organization is upheld then society will be stable. It was said by
Glaucon, that Socratesprophecies may be disseminated through the generations. This was in fact
the case due to his claims being advanced by the science of the times (Gould, 1996). This book
according to this introduction looks to discuss this science of biological determinism. Biological
determinism is an idea that sees all human behavior as innate. It postulates that we function as a
matter of our genetics, brain size and biology and not society or culture.

  • 3. Higher Courts Ensure Federal Laws Among All States Higher courts help to ensure that federal law carries out evenly among all states; a message of unity isn t sent when each state has its own exceptions to the law. Higher courts also look at the overall picture and the impact that the law has; the point is that federal law is the main concern, and state law doesn t make much difference. Therefore, it is necessary for the higher courts to step in and ensure that any issues at a federal level reign the same in any court/lower judicial system. There are three important factors that are used to determine if higher courts should accept a case on certiorari. The first is a split in the circuits, meaning that because of the importance of the case, it needs to be heard in a higher court. It is important to note that an obvious grant would occur in a conflict among circuits. The second point is polity in which events such as segregation have a significant impact in how society operates (Murphy, Pritchett, Epstein Knight, 2006). The third factor is legal importance specifically confusion of interpretation or societal importance. There are a couple of examples that point out the importance of federal law and these three points listed above. One example is U.S. vs. Nixon which proves that not only is no one individual above the law no matter their title, but also one that needed to be addressed by a higher court to make the right decision and set an example for future cases if they were ever to occur; this supports the first factor ... Analysis Of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof The Effects of Holding onto Crutches Of course you always had that detached quality as if you were playing a game without much concern over whether you won or lost, and now that you ve lost the game, not lost but just quit playing, you have that sort of charm that usually only happens in very old or hopelessly sick people, the charm of the defeated (30). In this quote, Maggie, a character in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, is expressing to her husband Brick how he surrounds his life with a defeated aura. This defeated aura restricts him from overcoming his struggles and blinds him from seeing the future. He holds onto to several crutches, in hopes that his struggles will be pushed aside and he can escape reality. These crutches come in several forms, but are essentially just excuses. People all over the world, such as the contestants on one of America s most watched TV shows The Biggest Loser, hold onto crutches and find excuses for not pursuing a future outcome. On the show, overweight contestants are trained to lose weight and eat healthy in order to give their body a second chance. All contestants have a story behind their weight gain, and every time it was because they could not let go of a crutch and chose to eat their way out of hardships. Maggie s husband Brick does essentially the same, but with different crutches and different methods of escape. So, through Tennessee Williams s play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, it can be proved that holding onto crutches hampers people from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Decentralisation as one of the main reforms under the NPM umbrella has started in different countries from different positions (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011, p. 102). For example, central government in the UK has praised the virtues of decentralisation, but in the early 1980s the UK was relatively a centralised country. Administrative decentralisation has been the preferred form. Few new powers have been given to local governments in the UK. In this case decentralisation has transferred authority to a range of specialised administrative bodies. However, the UK did experience a very significant act of political decentralisation when the Blair administration created elected assemblies for Scotland and Wales. When Cameron became prime minister in 2010 he strongly promoted the idea of a big society rather than a big government (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011). The precise implication of this were far from clear, but the general direction seemed to be towards decentralising services and seeking to enlist both commercial companies and civil society association to take over, or at least share in, activities previously performed by public authorities(p.315). In the NHS, since its formation one of the major debates has been the tension between a national and centralized NHS and a local and decentralized service (Peckham et al 2008). This is a very easy task because it only takes 30 minutes out of my day, but it is a good habit to get into. A bad habit I need to get out of is taking naps in the middle of my day whether it be after school or at five o clock on a weekend. Most people see his universal identity and not who he really is. Living in the city of Chicago as a black man, he is frequently categorized as a thug or aggressor. The purpose of his essay is to inform the readers about how it feels to be the one who is stereotyped, as well as to express his discontent of being type casted. As a result of the negative stereotypes involving black men, Staples has the capacity to negatively alter the space he is in by causing others to fear him. Equivalently, many people also fear cops because of the stigma they have. Because of this, the police negatively impact the space they are in. In the article, What Happens When Black People Learn They Should Fear the Police , Jesse Singal discusses how police brutality has affected the black community s trust in the police. Staples often faces stereotypes because of his threatening physical appearance. • 40. The Angry Black Man Analysis The Angry Woman, The Angry Arab, The Angry Black Man. These are labels given to people in today s society who for speaking out on injustice in the world. Is this fair? Are these individuals out of line for getting angry at injustice? To explore this topic we will take use an example from Nora Berenstain s essay Epistemic Exploitation, of a woman named Summer who believes her department of Philosophy had sexist biased in the decision to reward fellowships to only male graduate students. She also points out the department is known for covering up issues of sexual harassmentand harboring perpetrators of sexual harassment, some of which she has personally experienced. When confiding in a male cohort, Dean, he says her accounts are a misrepresentation of the department, and that there are, only a few bad apples . Likewise, he minimizes Summer s points and says she is just upset that she did not win a fellowship from the department. If Summer were to at this point get angry at the situation, she would be justified in her anger because of her perspective in the situation, and Dean as a member of the oppressor group is in the wrong for trying to discredit and perpetuate the gender oppressive environment. To begin, we should discuss two opposing views on the aptness of anger. A classic stoic argument on anger comes from the first century roman philosopher Seneca, in his book On Anger. In his first extract of his book Seneca describes how anger is uncontrollable and therefore useless (Seneca, 101). To support this, in the second extract, Seneca rebukes the argument that anger can be used as motivation, by stating that he believes virtue and moral outrage at injustice can provide enough motivation to make change (Seneca, 103). Further, in his third extract, Seneca argues that anger should not be used as motivation because he believes the very nature of anger is precarious, therefore untrustworthy. Rather, humans have been equipped with reason for both foreseeing issues, and to use as motive for change (Seneca, 104). Thus, Seneca says gaining control and overcoming ones emotions is the only way to live a productive in making change to moral injustice in the world. In contrast to Seneca, Amia Srinivasan has an ... Yet people also do things requiring perception and thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself and that it is a physical and emotional being. For instance the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection. Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and entirely possible. the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept and that it is ... The Diversity Of Multicultural Education According to (Beal Bolick, 2012), Each day s wave of current events reinforces our awareness that our globally interdependent world is a mГ©lange of people of different colors, religions, languages, and customs (p. 55). Similar to the global world, classrooms across American today are beginning to look the same, raising awareness for teaching that is all inclusive. Social studies teachers today are facing increasing difficulties with creating curriculums that meet their state s mandated requirements and each individual learner, learning needs. A typical classroom will consist of students that may not speak English as a second language, a mixture of male and female students, and more important, children coming from several different backgrounds, having varying life experiences. Thus, the cultural differences resulted in a greater demand for today s social studies teacher to practice culturally relevant teaching by using multicultural teaching dimensions, so that all children can achieve. Multicultural education will be successful only when the teacher understands the meaning of multicultural education, take into account results from their assessments of the children is learning styles, and then make changes to their teaching methods if necessary, by using a wide range of strategies and teaching techniques, that encourage diversity and acceptance. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school regularly with their friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help achieve the student s academic goals and be successful. Most people try to avoid both conflict and deception, but people must realize that they have benefits and are a reality in everyday interactions. The interplay of conflict and deception specifically harnessed my attention over the past few chapters. Interpersonal conflict is an expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals (Floyd, 2011, p. 350). To fully understand conflict, the definition can be broken down further. As Kory Floyd (2011) describes, conflict is an expressed struggle. A conflict is not fully present until one party s feelings are aware to the other party. This can be done through both verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Conflict occurs between interdependent parties as Floyd (2011) explains. A disagreement becomes a conflict if both parties depend on each other in some way. For example, the relationship between a child and their parents is a relationship that has high interdependence. If there is no dependence between the two parties, Floyd (2011) does not consider it interpersonal conflict, which I personally found interesting. The next part of the definition declares that conflict is about the goals the parties perceive see as incompatible. Incompatible, means that both party s needs cannot be met. However, Floyd ... • 53. Essay about Meaning and Identity in Public Art Meaning and Identity in Public Art While visiting the Capitol Square, I felt like I had stepped back into an ancient Greek culture. From the colossal pillars supporting the building to the bronze statues of Greek goddesses among our war heroes it is easy to mistake the Capitol building for a Greek temple. I want to share with you what the architecture communicated to me, what the subject of the art was that I observed, and why the building was placed where it now stands. Anyone who possesses basic knowledge about ancient Greece could surely see the similarities between Greek temples and the Capitol building. There is even an inscription on the Capitol building stating it is a Greek revival structure . The building has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What all this detail says to me is that this is a place where powerful people work and where many important functions of the city take place. I gain a sense that whoever is employed here has a great deal of wealth, be it in knowledge or money, and tremendous authority. The Greekssaw their rulers as being next to godliness, and in a way, the people who work here are our rulers. The subject of the art that I observed had a theme of peace, war, nobility, and discovery. The first statue I saw was a large monument made of bronze and marble. The monument featured Ulysses S. Grant, James A. Garfield, Phillip Sheridan, William T. Sherman, Rutherford B. Hayes, Salmon Chase, and Edwin Stanton standing under a Greek goddess (who resembles Ceres because she is surrounded by bushels of wheat and grains) with a quote under her that says These are my jewels . These men were by far the greatest men to come from Ohio and just like the Greeks who cast their heroes in bronze, so have we cast our heroes for all to see in bronze at the Capitol. The next monument I saw was a huge angel in bronze that included an inscription about peace. Then, on another side of the building, there are two monuments to the soldiers that went to fight at Iwo Jima. These walls contain etched letters from various soldiers, some of them are happy letters while others are very sad. There seemed to be many monuments to war than anything else. The monuments about war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Analytical Response Chris Shea ENG 348 Professor Christine Doyle 04/19/16 Analytical Response Paper #10 In her 1869 2 part novel Little Women, Louisa May Alcott deals with the stereotypes of women of the 19th century and takes them on head on. Each of the girls has their own quirks which lead to a less than conventional series of events throughout the novel. This is all set up in chapter 1, when the girls are discussing how they are going to get presents for Christmas. (Alcott 1). In this chapter, we learn about who the girls are and what their personalities consist of. Some are normal and conservative for the time, while others are more non conventional to say the least. The first of the four sisters to speak in this chapter is Jo, who states, Christmas won t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Life Experience Essay Life is full of exciting experiences for us to enjoy. However, these experiences are meant to teach life lessons that should remain with us. In my 17 years of living, I have had many lessons to be learned from events I have gone through. One of those lessons sticks out above the rest and it has a humorous story to go along with it. The story starts out with the group planning a get together while eating breakfast at Mcdonald s. Ideas were flowing out of our heads like a river. We could not agree on a plan of action for the longest time. Finally, it was decided that we should go to Kenzie s house after she said her dad would cook for us. I was immediately down for that idea because I knew her dad makes the best chicken wings ever. The rest of the day for me was spent thinking about what to wear that night. Eventually, the time came for heading over to Kenzie s house. Bailey, another girl in the group, asked me to give her a ride since she did not have her driver s license. Because of this, we were one of the last ones to make it to Kenzie s. In the time that we missed the group decided that they wanted to go and toilet paper some of our friend s houses that lived close to Kenzie. I had never done something like this before. However, the excitement of doing this and avoid being caught appealed to me. We all piled into the cars and headed to Wal Mart to buy the toiletpaper. We had an interesting event that happened to us while we were in Wal Mart. The event was when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Workplace Diversity Issues Workplace diversity policies have emerged among countless companies, in an attempt to increase diversity among its workers. While noble in idea, the effect it is having is ultimately questionable. In a very recent study conducted by Dover, Kaiser, and Major, its overall effect to company diversity is negligible (John Moyer, 2016). The study went on to demonstrate diversity policies can blind white men to racismand sexism at work and also lead to resentment (Moyer, 2016, p. 1). This idea is reinforced via Reddit commenters anecdotes and an older study (Moyer, 2016). The study demonstrated how whites felt threatened by companies that had workplace diversity policies compared to companies that didn t (Moyer, 2016, p.2). In essence, as the country increases in diversity, white peoplefeel more threatened (Moyer, 2016, p.3). This article relates to our class by demonstrating the racial friction in America. In thinking that the increase in diversity as threatening to the status quo, it is unsurprising that white people feel threatened and treated unfairly. This perceived unfairness leads to racism and sexism in and out of the workplace. Which, in turn, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study was very recent, a pleasant surprise, and it raised some interesting thoughts. I wished the article explained how to go about increasing workplace diversity. On a side note, I found the use of the word white people almost dehumanizing, which could easily be transferred on to the media s (and the everyday) use of the word black people. Obviously, I found it odd, due to the fact I am white, which entails that I have white privilege. Also citing Reddit commenters, while it is the front page of the internet, was rather odd to see. Unsurprisingly enough, I agree with the study. I personally remember stories told to me where the mere mention of workplace diversity was filled with contempt. While sad, it personally validates the study s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Biological Determinism Summary In his introduction, Gould enlightens us on the views of Socrates. All people should be educated and belong to one of three classes within society; rulers, auxiliaries and craftsmen. Socrates believes firmly that if this organization is upheld then society will be stable. It was said by Glaucon, that Socratesprophecies may be disseminated through the generations. This was in fact the case due to his claims being advanced by the science of the times (Gould, 1996). This book according to this introduction looks to discuss this science of biological determinism. Biological determinism is an idea that sees all human behavior as innate. It postulates that we function as a matter of our genetics, brain size and biology and not society or culture. ...
