Josef Mengele Hero
A mad scientist by definition is a stock character in popular fiction; a bubbling scientist working on
unlikely ways to save the world, or a villainous one best on destroying it. ( mad... ). We were raised
hearing the story of Frankenstein and his monster, but what if mad scientists were in fact real. Many
people see Joseph Mengele as a ruthless murderer, but he actually had a whole lot to do with the
survival of individuals every day. Many don t give him the credit of his findings because it was done
under eerie circumstances, but without Mengele we would not have the information we have today
about the human body. Josef Mengele was the most influential mad scientist of modern medicine.

All Quiet On The Western Front, German World War I
World War I differed from previous wars in the essence that technological sophistication of weaponry
such as artillery, poison gas and machine guns created a vehement war with a massive number of
casualties. In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, German World War I veteran Erich Maria
Remarque delineates the experiences that German soldiers face on the restless front, and the toll that
the physical conditions and the mental stress take on the deterioration of the youth of each soldier
battling on the terrain. Remarque s war novel strays away from the romantic and glorifying thought of
war in order to emphasize the hardships war forced upon the men who fought for their country. The
weapons that are in the hands of the men on the front lines become their livelihood, and the terrain of
the battle are the only things separating a common man and a man marked by the scars of war. At
some point, war no longer becomes a fight between enemies from two different countries, it becomes
a battle between one s self and the urge to resist barbaric and animalistic acts when in dire situations.
A wide variety of new advanced and manufactured weapons altered the way soldiers regarded battle
and the land where they would engage. Life on the front forced German soldiers to come face to face
with petrifying weapons that can critically injured, or even kill, one within a matter of seconds. Words
such as mines, gas, tanks, machine guns, hand grenades, bombardment, barrage and curtain fire

Robert Machumann Research Paper
Robert Schumann was a famous German composer in the Romantic era. When he was young, his
talents revealed from poetry to music. In 1830, he decided to be a musician, although he was learning
laws. Since he anxiously wanted to be successful in music, his hands got hurt. However, he still had
enthusiastic and sensitive depositions. Then he changed to be engaged in creating and commenting on
music. Later on, he married Clara Wieck and wrote over hundred outstanding music. Thus, Robert
Schumann s experiences had a huge impact on his music.
Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau, Germany, on June 8, 1810, at 10:30 p.m., who was also the
fifth and youngest child in the Schumann. His father, August Schumann, was an author of chivalric
romances and an indefatigable lexicographer. This evoked and cultivated Robert s capabilities of
music and literature. After he was about seven, he started piano classes with Gottfried Kuntsch at
Saint Mary s. About four years later, Schumann had performances in abendunterhaltungen (semi
private evening entertainments), which was organized by Kuntsh. This entertainment gave him
opportunities to spread his repertoires in Schumann s early compositional efforts (Daverio).
On March 29, 1828, Schumann went to the University of Leipzig and was studying law. Since his
mother, Johanna Christiana, worried about Schumann s future career and believed that being a lawyer
could have a safe and relaxing life instead of being a musician, she squelched Schumann to

Narrative Essay On Going To Chicago
You, Josie, have been accepted into GEM s World Academy Chicago! This was the best day of my
life. I have been accepted to the best private middle school in Chicago with a full ride. All four years
for free. I couldn t believe what just happened to me. This was the highest achievement that I have
ever gotten. It seems a little to good to be true. I could see my mother with a pitty smile on her face
and kind of scared. Like she is trying to hide something. It wasn t like we were starting school
tomorrow. It was June. I found out what it was, we live in Forest Park, which is a full 12 miles from
Chicago. To add on, my mom works from 12am to 10am. So that means that I am going to have to
take the train all the way into the city. First of all, I ve never really even been out of Forest Park or its
neighboring towns other than driving to camp in southern Illinois. So going to Chicago is a huge deal
for me. It was an early morning. 6am on a Saturday to be exact, and my mother woke me up. C mon
Josie we need to get you to Chicago. Are you coming with? I asked No. Here are a few quarters. Call
me on a pay phone and I will come and pick you up. I thought she was crazy. I was going to take the

it. So I hurry off that platform and accidently switch to the purple line as I was rushing to get out of
there. I was forced to get off at the next stop and call my mom. That would be fail #2. I seriously
couldn t believe myself. I m a complete buffoon. Let s just say my mom said I was a buffoon as well,
but she didn t use such kind words. It made me think of why I was going to this school if I m just so

Null Hypothesis Research Paper
The null hypothesis stated that birds have no seed preference, so therefore they will eat the same
amount of each of the seed types and the alternate hypothesis stated that if the bird have a seed
preference, then they would choose the black oil seed because they were the easiest to open, contained
lots of fat, and were small enough for smaller beaked birds to eat. The null hypothesis was rejected
because p value, 3.2 x 〖10〗^( 27), was less than the alpha value, .05, therefore, the alternate
hypothesis was accepted. Entering the expected values from the calculations into the Chi Square Test,
the p value was found which resulted in the rejection of the Ho hypothesis. The Ha hypothesis was
accepted because the birds ate 59 black oil seeds, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The birds ate 27 safflower seeds, 51 striped sunflower seeds, and 59 black oil seeds, which further
disproves the null hypothesis. During the experiment, one feisty grackle guarded the bird feeder
containing safflower seeds. This could have deterred certain birds from going to this feeder therefore
effecting the amount of safflower seeds that were eaten. The chickadees are small birds that are easy
prey for larger birds and other animals, so to escape predation; they quickly grab seeds from the feeder
and fly away. In the process of hastily grabbing the seeds and flying away, they could have dropped
the seed before they got around to eating it. This could also happen for other bird that accidently drop
their seeds when they dispose of the hull or because it was a bad seed. The groups calculated how
many seeds were ate by the birds by counting the amount of times a bird visited the feeder, but this
does not mean that the bird actually ate the seed. These are all possible sources of error that could
have affected the results of the Chi Square Test, therefore throwing off the resulted p value that
rejected the null

Information flows around the world
Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian philosopher of communication theory, developed the concept of the
term Global Village in two of his earliest books The Gutenberg Galaxy, in 1962, and Understanding
Media: The Extension of Man, in 1964.
He defined global village as a small village where electronic media made it possible, and how the
information flows from parts of the world at the same time (Mcluhan, 1964).
No matter how far or near of anything happen around the globe, people can see and hear of what have
been occurred immediately, with just matter of seconds. Electronic media, Mcluhan said, made people
aware of and respond to issues happened around the globe as if it happen in the same village people
are living in. Today, after more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Fraser, Nance (1992, p. 110), Public Sphere is a theater in modern societies in which
political participation is enacted through the medium of talk . Participatory democracy is a core
concept of the public sphere. It is where people come to together to form a public opinion, and that it
affects to political action.
The only legitimate governments are governments that have its laws and policies shifted by the public
opinion of the public sphere (Benhabib, 1992). Democratic governance rests on the capacity of and
opportunity for citizens to engage in enlightened debate (Hauser, 1998, p.83).
In addition, both concepts of the public sphere and the global village have put a concentration and
demonstrate the importance of the use of the media.
According to Habermas (1962), the public sphere was set up and happened in many locations such as
coffee shops, salons, somewhere in society where individuals could assemble and talk of public
matters. With the emergence of the bourgeois public sphere, there is a publishing enterprise,
newspaper, where the formed public opinions of people are bridged to government and other societies.
Newspaper has been a main tool to use in the public sphere.
Later on, According to Habermas (1962), with the emergence of the capitalist system, people more
concern with their consumption rather than the political action. So, media has become an arena for
commercialization and advertising. In addition, the development of the

and what happens to our bodies years and years after death. It was incredible to be so close up to these
samples that they had for us to view. Not to mention, the amount of information provided in each
exhibit shown was very thorough and so informative. It was certainly something that I will take with
me for the rest of my life. It should be on everyone s priority list to experience this exhibit to get a

This process includes five imperative steps that enable us to be persevered after death. The first step,
embalming and anatomical dissection, is a process involving halting decay by pumping formalin into
the body through the arteries. The formalin will kill the bacteria throughout our bodies and chemically
stops the decay of the tissue. Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are
removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and
water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a
solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) The third step, forced impregnation, is quite
the interesting step. During this process, a reactive polymer (silicone rubber) replaces the acetone. The
specimen is immersed in a polymer solution and placed in vacuum chamber. The vacuum than

The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 Outlawed Discrimination
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national
origin when hiring, promoting, or firing employees; in public accommodations and in all programs
receiving federal funding (Barnes Bowles, 2015). The Civil Rights Act of 1964 created equal
opportunities for everyone including women by making it illegal to discriminate. Because of this Act
businesses can no longer refuse to employee an individual just because they are black or a women.

A Comparison of Film Techniques of Two Film Versions of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley wrote her novel Frankenstein when she was just a young girl of nineteen. She wrote it in
1816, when she went on holiday with her friend, Byron. Byron was already a famous poet, and it was
him who suggested that whilst they were away, they should both write a ghost story. At the time it was
just a way of passing time and having fun for Mary Shelley, but little did she know that her story
would become famous worldwide. Many adaptations of Frankenstein have been made for cinema in
the 20th century. Two of the most significant being those studied in this assignment.

In 1930 French born director Robert Florey was hired by Universal Studios to make the new horror
film Frankenstein but he did not satisfy producer Carl Laemmle Jr, and so Director James Whale was
hired to replace Florey. Whale, an acclaimed Director, chose 44 year old Boris Karloff as the monster
and together with make up specialist Jack Pierce they created the most influential horror image of all
times. Boris Karloff s career was launched by the huge success of this film. However, many changes
had been made in Whale s version from the original novel.
In contrast with this, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was released in 1994, sixty three years after James
Whale s version, and unlike his version, it followed very strictly Mary Shelley s original plot. Kenneth
Branagh, who also starred in the film as Dr. Frankenstein, directed the film. Branagh is also a British
born Director, with a distinguished career in theatre, both as an actor and a director.
Branagh is also famously known for adapting Shakespeare s plays into films. Mary Shelleys
Frankenstein was filmed in Shepperton studios in England, but with parts of the film shot on location
in the Swiss Alps. Tristar Pictures distributed the film. The film had a very strong cast of established
actors with Robert De Niro playing Frankesntein, Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth, Kenneth

The Role Of Proteins Of A Cell Range From Structural,...
The DNA encodes specific characteristics of an organism which breaks down into genes. The genes
goes through a transcription process. Transcription is where the language of the body s building blocks
is transcribed from DNA to RNA and the body will recognize it so it can carry out the next process.
Translation of the information collected from RNA is the next step. The information collected is
transported to the protein. Certain proteins play specific roles so the body synthesizes the right protein
for the specific job at certain time.
Production of proteins is one of the most significant processes taking place in the cell. The role of
proteins in a cell range from structural, enzymatic and hormonal functions. DNA is responsible for ...

The double spiral of DNA unwinds and unzips in such a way to release the instructions located for the
given protein. Consequently, the instructions are carried out of the nucleus to the ribosomes. This
point of location of the DNA molecule is called a gene. Genes act as a pattern for another type of
nucleic acid called RNA. Instead of a thymine as in DNA, each adenine of the unzipped DNA attracts
a uracil, U. The other bases follow the same pattern as in DNA i.e., G, T, and C attract the same
partners C, A and G. The single chain of nucleotides which is newly formed is called messenger RNA
and its formation is called as transcription. mRNA carries an exact duplicate of the information
recorded in the DNA and leaves the nucleus with the instructions. The mRNA molecules are attracted
to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm. Another smaller kind of RNA molecules called transfer RNA
(tRNA.) also is there in the cytoplasm. Only one kind of amino acid can be attached to one end of a
tRNA molecule while the other end carries a distinctive tag to identify it. The strand of mRNA lines
up at the ribosome and the base pairs are attracted to their partners again. The attraction between the
mRNA and the tRNA compliments each other. A triplet sequence of mRNA transcript codes for a
specific amino acid and the sequence is called a codon. A corresponding triplet sequence on the
transfer RNA (tRNA) called as

John F Kennedy And The Cuban Missile Crisis

who is going to push the big red button first that destroys the world , a popular movement regarding
race and equality is becoming the Nations most diverse topic and finally a program to help foreign
countries recruit their younger generations. John F Kennedy was involved with every action and
needed leadership skills to help the nation move forward. John F Kennedy was a hero because he
successfully negotiated with the Soviet Union during the Cold War specifically during the Cuban
Missile Crisis in addition to establishing the Peace Corps with his brother in law Sargent Shriver then
following with support for civil rights.
The Cuban Missile Crisis started on October 16, 1962. At the time the dictator Fidel Castro was
developing a relationship with the Soviet Union. Previously, Castro visited the United States to help
establish a foreign relationship with the U.S only to be denied by the president. Vice President Richard
Nixon had to step in to greet Castro at the White House. Cuba was in a deep economic turmoil and
desperately needed foreign aid to help its people. The Soviet Union was willing to help out but not
without a price; establishing a commercial and diplomatic relationship ( Walters) . The Soviet Union
and its communism beliefs was inching closer to the United States until it was at their door step. In

Two Major Unions in America Essay
Two Major Unions in America
Unions in America were created to improve the working conditions of its labor force. These labor
force consisted of the men, women, and children that were employed by the owners of industry. Many
unions were established in the early 1800s, but due to the widespread fear of socialism and the
repression from the courts, the majority of them eventually failed. Most capitalist, at the time, felt
there was no need to share with its employees the profits of their businesses (Murrin et al. 2002:685

measures and health protection for the people actually doing the work. Employees worked long hours

Supreme Court, repeatedly found unions in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, even though that
act had been intended to control corporations, not unions (Murrin et al. 2002:701).
Later in their careers some of these men became humanitarians. But instead of providing social reform
in the work place with better wages and other benefits, they distributed large quantities of their wealth
instead to colleges and libraries; now they were looked at as heroes by society.
Consequently, due to abuses from employers to the people under them, laws and regulations to protect
workers were established and are now enforced by the U.S. Department of Labor. These laws protect
over 10 million employers and about 125 million employees (2003). As written in the Department of
Labors General Information website, it says
In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including
those that guarantee workers rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage
and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other
income support (2003).
The involvement of the federal government helped curb or eliminate conditions as those found in
sweatshops and other places. These jobsites usually were where people had to put in long hours under
unsafe working conditions.

The Ancient Greeks
During the time of the ancient Greeks we read about their remarkable achievements; whether it be
social, political, or cultural, we would not understand their accomplishments if it weren t for their
precise interpretation of text and the development of a lasting language. When looking at our lives
today, the lack of credit which goes to our ancient descendants is beyond decent; for the lives in which
they established for themselves, only furthered our capability and our potential of exceeding what was

with evidence of their writing, record keeping, and the creation of the democratic system many nations
frame the foundations of the country today. With the development of a young language, the greeks
were able to formulate a alphabet with it, creating the ability to write, and thereon creating records for
trade, history, and mathematical/scientific testimonies. Now if we consider evolution of western
civilization, we can easily see and conclude that the simple foundations of humanity explained

civilization not to mention the Mesopotamians, Mycenaeans and Egyptians and their advancements in
architecture and more. Western civilization is no one place, but is the way humanity moves forward,

Run With The Horsemen Essay
Little Porter Osborne, Jr. grew up on a farm in Georgia where the people own the land and the land, in
turn, owns the people. In the novel, Run with the Horsemen, Porter fights his way through
adolescence and the depression, learning more about life every day from the big boys under the tree at
lunch. Ferrol Sams is able to portray a realistic account of life on a farm during the depression by
using humor, dialect, and vivid imagery.
Humor is used throughout the book to keep the reader interested in what would otherwise be a boring
story of hard work and hard times. The boring and tedious act of plowing is turned into a dangerous,
yet humorous, occurrence when a release of methane gas from the mule was met ... Show more

Although the members of the Osborne family speak properly, the farm hands (who were, up until a
short time before the novel, slaves), speak in a southern dialect which portrays them as uneducated. A
good example of this is when Buddy pleads with Porter to, Keep yo head down, Sambo! For God s
sake, keep yo head down an be stiller n you ever been in yo life befo! The same words are used as
would be used by an educated person, only they are shortened or run together.
The vivid imagery used throughout the novel allows the reader to have a better idea of what life was
like. The summer plowing is said to have a rhythm that is almost musical, The stride of a man
matched that of a mule in a one plane dance down a cotton row with ears of the mule plunging
forward then backward in unison with the pull of the forelegs, now the hind legs, as the heavy plow
was dragged smoothly through the whispering earth. This passage allows the reader to imagine the
rhythm of the plowing, which makes it seem more real than just saying that the mule plowed up and
down the row. All this plowing happened as, Over and above and beyond and around could be heard
bird song. The imagery of a man plowing in the heat with birds

Beak Depths
Evolution is the process of change in a given population. There are 2 possible ways this change can
happen. One way is through the difference in abilities of individuals to survive and reproduce. These
differences, or variation, are largely created by genetic mutations in the DNA, ultimately making each
individual different from one another. This idea of variation can be shown in Figure 2, where even
though they are all the same species in Daphne Major, Medium Ground Finches, they all have a
variety of different Beak Depths. This difference among each Finches forces some to have a natural
advantage while others to have a natural disadvantage, purely based on the environmental conditions.
This is mainly because some traits are more well adapted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the example of Figure 2, the finches that have the medium sized beak depths may be naturally
selected because their beaks are small enough to eat crumbs from the ground, but big enough to eat
insects(Just a Example). Over time, as more and more offsprings get this advantageous trait, they will
all reproduce again aswell exponentially increasing the amount of individuals with the advantageous
trait. Soon, most will have the medium size beak depth, and ultimately that is a change among the
population, or evolution. The second way a species may evolutionize is through the competition of
limited resources. Competition is often caused by the overpopulation of a species, where there are too
many individuals and not as much foods. In these situations, some will have a better chance of beating
the competition than others. Figure 3 helps us better understand this idea by showing how some
Finches died during a drought. A drought causes a lack of water, forcing the finches to fight amongst
themselves to see who will get this water. The winners are decided by who has the advantageous

Walker Percy The Loss Of The Creature Summary
Walker Percy s essay The Loss of the Creature through relatable hypotheticals points out a problem in
many people s lives. He enlightens readers that people have lost their ability to evaluate something s
worth by themselves, what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy delivers his message through his
essay without most of the technical jargon one would expect. In doing so the problem he points out
seems less of a concept far from our understanding but one that the regular person can solve. To begin
his inquiry of life and sovereignty Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand Canyon for what it
is. Percy tells the story of the famous explorer Garcia Lopez de Cardenas who discovered the Grand
Canyon and was astonished by it. He paints a beautiful scene of a newly discovered land and then
shortly after asks a question that would confuse readers of its relevance before his essay developed.
He asks, Does not one see the same sight from the Bright Angel Lodge that Cárdenas saw (1)? The
obvious answer that most readers would say is yes but as one reads on Percy argues otherwise.
Following up on his question he attempts to make his point clear by setting the experience of Cardenas
discovering the Canyon to have a value that he labeled P. (1) He argues that when the value of P is
shared with millions of sightseers each of them doesn t receive the same experience of Cardenas but a
millionth of it s worth. By using values to demonstrate worth, Percy says that

Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to its unique features,
such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However, due to its highly constrained
computational and energy resources this network is exposed to numerous attacks that affect its
security. So, it is important to address these security issues from the beginning of the system design.
but, due to inherent resource and computing constraints, security in sensor networks poses diverse
challenges than traditional network security so, designing security protocols for all layers in this kind
of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we studied several existing WSN security
protocols and data link layer security algorithms, which ensures a safe communication link between
neighboring nodes by supervising the medium access and handling the errors. The purpose of this
paper is Not Only Studying and explaining the strength and limitations of the existing energy efficient
security protocols of the data link layer but also and determine the crucial security requirements which
should be taken into consideration for design of future of data link security protocols.

Bailey Johnson and Vivian Baxter Johnson. This was just the beginning on her adventurous lifestyle.
Her parents had come upon an agreement to part their separate ways in life. When deciding this they
also agreed that it was best for their children to live with her grandmother Annie Henderson. Moving
to Rural Stamps, Arkansas her brother Bailey had given Marguerite a nickname Maya .
(noteablebiograophies.com) Living with her grandmother , she gained so much confidence and pride.
Her grandmother was the one to show her how to live with her self and be content with it. Visiting her
mother back to her home town St. Louis, Missouri she was raped by her mother s boyfriend. Maya
testified against him which was very hard on her since she was only an eight year old. Her uncles beat
the offender to death. Maya felt as if she killed him because of the statements she testified against him.
Feeling this way she became silent for five consecutive years She attended public schools in Arkansas.
Her and her brother Bailey joined her mother in California to continue the schooling career. In 1942

Life Vs. Reasons By Bernard Roth
Life Vs. Reasons Bernard Roth, a Professor at the d. school in California, has an impressively valid
outlook as to why all reasons given are bullshit. Roth provides numerous examples of people who use
regularly use excuses to manage everyday life; however, he also plays the devil s advocate when
stating that excuses may help you in the current situation but will it assist you at all in the long run? In
the second chapter of his book, Roth classifies the use of excuses into several categories; ethically,
logically, and emotionally. Although I understand Roth s beliefs, there are multiple areas I
fundamentally disagree with. Such as, some excuses must be explained no matter what the
circumstances were since the reasoning is important. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roth has authored a book and holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering. Due to his background in
mechanical engineering Roth approaches situations rather logically. He graduated from the university
of Colombia where he first received his doctorate(Stanford profiles, Bernard Roth). Experience both
in teaching and working in a school where the majority of students have found success, provided
credibility to Roth s claims. These credentials indicate Roth is a reliable source and therefore further
validating his opinion that the reasons are bullshit. In the quote reasons are bullshit Roth explains how
reasons tend to be the limiting factor in every person s life. Roth finds the common ground with most
of the students and readers by giving a great example of how he believed the reasons he provided
when skipping meetings were just a lame excuse he used to allow himself to feel better. Wasting time
talking late with colleagues, taking last minute phone calls and extra paperwork kept Roth from
arriving at meetings on time. When he finally realized, his colleagues traveled the same route he did,
and managed to attend the meeting on time, he changed the way he approached his routines . This
change allowed him to be one of the first attendees at his regular meetings at Berkley. Using student s
as examples assisted Roth in relating to his readers. One example, stemmed from a semester project,

Essay about Anzaldúa’s Genre Borderlands
Anzaldúa s Genre Borderlands
Gloria Anzaldúa writes of a Utopic frame of mind, the borderlands created in and lived in by the new
mestiza. She describes the preexisting natures of the Anglos, Mexicanos, and Chicanos as seen around
the southwest U.S. / Mexican border, indicative of the nations at large. She also probes the borders of
language, sexuality, psychology and spirituality. Anzaldúa presents this information in various
identifiable ways including the autobiography, historical/informative essay, and poetry. What is unique
to Anzaldúa is her ability to weave a perfect kind of compromised state of mind that melds together
the preexisting cultures while simultaneously formulating a fusion of genres that stretches previously

Anzaldúa finds that combining the two distinct forms adds a new dimension that is necessary to fully
comprehend the history of a people.
Sexuality and spirituality thrives as other topics in which Anzaldua combines genres. In this instance
she combines history and autobiography. Again this gives a more humane look at history. However,
this use is more distinctly personal whereas the previous combination of history and poetry provided a
more universal personal approach. This talks about Anzaldúa s part in history. Anzaldúa writes, Being
lesbian and raised Catholic, I was indoctrinated as straight, I made the choice to be queer (for some it
is genetically inherent) (41). This line is found in a section dealing with homophobia that resides
heavily in the cultures she identifies with. While this phobia exists in the culture at large and is
recorded as such, Anzaldúa provides a personal account as an example.
In another way, language also provides this dynamic that Anzaldúa aims for. Anzaldúa takes the
separate Spanish and English languages and her own Chicana tongue and creates a book that makes
uses of both. Both languages are vital in some way. While the book is primarily written in English,
often titles, sentences, and poetry parts are in a Spanish that more than likely is not easily translatable
to those who are not bilingual. Language seems to best sum up the importance of her borderlands in
genre and life. Anzaldúa says,

How Did Indian Ocean Trade Dbq
From 600 to 1450 CE, trade thrived through the Indian Ocean trade routes. Large and powerful states
provided security for merchants and travelers, allowing them to follow these routes with ease. While
the spread of goods and ideas along the Indian Ocean trade routes remained constant, the states
controlling them changed, leading to the creation of new states and the addition of European
participation in this network.
At the beginning of this time period, Malay sailors began riding monsoons to go to China and India.
This led to the passing of knowledge to others as well as making connections with various people. The
merchant and traveller s reliance on monsoon winds would remain constant through the period. There

Analysis Of Ode On A Grecian Urn
Ode on a Grecian Urn This was a strange poem because of the word form and how the words were
used. Getting the hang of what was going on was a little tricky. Keats s elegant style is very interesting
and unique, but made for a bit of a challenge. In order to see a clear opinion on the mood of the poem
I reread it to try and connect and see it as he saw it.
When I read the poem, I could see the importance of the urn and the actions that are portrayed in it.
The descriptive wording that Keats uses makes you think of the past and the events that led up to what
he sees on the urn. Understanding the work of art and its beauty is something that is left up to the
imagination of the viewer. Keats brings the focus of the story within each scene that is depicted on the
well detailed piece.
Furthermore, seeing the work that Keats wrote about in the past, the ode is something that he was
accustomed to. When I first picture the story from the title I thought of the remains of a loved one that
has been lost.
This story is not about the modern use of an urn. The first dramatic scene shows the lack of movement
in the figures giving them little life or a scene of a still frame. The word choice is a way for one to see
how they wrote in their times because of the certain word repetition. Keats describes everything in a
question which made me think that he was making an assumption on the actions of the people
portrayed. What men or gods are these? What maidens loth? What mad pursuit? What

How To Make A Water Garden Essay
You can have a beautiful and calming water garden no matter how much or how little space you have.
All you need is a weekend and a little planning to have all the beauty, tranquility and calming
atmosphere you desire at an affordable price. Your first decision will be to find a spot for your garden.
Most people choose spots where there is a good amount of shade in the afternoon and early evening.
You will need at least five hours of good sunlight a day for your water plants since most water plants
need direct sunlight to survive and be healthy. It s not recommended that you place your water garden
directly under a shade tree with over hanging branches that will drop leaves into your pond, unless
you like cleaning leaves out of it everyday. It may help to remember while choosing a spot for your
pond that water is heavy, about 8 pounds per gallon, the addition of plants and fish will make things
pretty heavy so be sure the area you choose will hold everything plus the pump. Some people like a
variety of plants, fish or accessories in their ponds, while others only want two or three things, this all
depends on you and what pleases your senses. Don t forget to place your garden close to an easily
accessible water source since you will need to replace water levels and keep things fresh and stable
everyday. Next, you will need to decide what type of enclosure you re going to build. Do not use
chemically treated wood since it contains arsenic and is not eco friendly.

The Easy and Meaningful Integration of Social Studies and...
It is not enough for our students to be citizens of the United States of America; they are faced with the
challenge that no other generation has: they are citizens of the world. Social studies, as a focus in
classrooms today must be more than a history class. In fact, social studies should include all content
areas and be included in all content areas. In math, it is not enough to learn isolated logarithms;
students should explore economics and the interdependence of the world economies. A current events
guiding question might include, Will the failure of Greece s economy affect those of its neighbors and
beyond? Science class should not be the teaching and learning of statics and dynamics and origin of

In the introduction pages of the social studies curriculum for the State of Connecticut, it states that the
framework ...should help students build empathetic awareness along with the ability to apply that
awareness to understanding both historical and contemporary issues.... It requires one to be willing to
suspend judgment, weigh evidence and examine another point of view. At times, it may require us to
confront controversial topics. In the language arts curriculum, in Standard Two, Exploring and
Responding to Literature, students are guided to read and respond to classical and contemporary texts
from many cultures and literary periods. While studying the curriculum, students will recognize that
readers and authors are influenced by individual, social, cultural and historical contexts. Without
knowing what those individual, social, cultural and historical contexts are, students cannot possibly be
truly successful in language arts. The second content strand for social studies addresses History/Social

The Shift Of Interest From Outputs Generated By Smart...
The shift of interest from outputs generated by smart computers to the actual processes that made the
fascinating results possible, in many ways also marked the beginning of a serious passion and
engagement with technology as a discipline and a field of learning. The exciting and appealing
graphics of the best virtual reality games became less significant than the design, the techniques, the
algorithms and the concepts that enabled those compelling features. As an undergraduate student of
Information Science and Engineering, a barrage of questions from me were a given at the end of
lessons. In the Data Structures Lab, I was the most interactive student with queries on storage,
retrieval, modification, and each of these discussions equipped me with deeper and stronger
understanding of best ways of manipulating and accessing large volumes of data. I began to work on
challenging assignments on my own, looking in detail at techniques, experimenting with these,
identifying patterns and trends. Conceptualizing data, and analyzing it to glean meaningful
information became a major passion and observing my self directed efforts, the professors gave me
herculean tasks that were well above my knowledge levels. I welcomed these challenges and
impressed the teachers with my skills, strong analytical and reasoning abilities and knowledge of
programming. Further, my technical paper on Green Cloud Computing that was presented at a state

What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism Say?
Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people
believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he
argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior.
Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought
up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is
that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who believe the two,
evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and hence, withhold
approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self defeating (316). ...

Greek Human Figure Essay
Greek art during the seventh to the second century, have evolved from the archaic period through the
Hellenistic period. These periods expand on previous era and lead to more detail and dramatic
artwork. Sculpture s of human figure s gained intensity with each era. During these periods, human
figure s particularly male figure s was considered as incredible art objects by the Greeks. Additionally,
they were more fascinated by male sculptures than female sculptures. They made enormous beautiful
sculptures in male form making them appear very tall and strong .For example The Hero and Centaur
from Olympia Greece, around 750 730 BCE, which now stand in Metropolitan Museum of art in New
York City. That statue represents a man and a centaur, part man and part horse locked in a hand and
hand battle. The artist makes the centaur as a man in font and a horse in the back. Another example is
the Mantikos Apollo sculpture, statuette of a youth dedicated by Mantikos to Apollo, from Greece,
around 700 680 BCE, which now in museum of fines arts in Boston. This artwork shows how the
Greek people were attempting at making sculptures in human form. Most sculptures were made of two
sorts of material. Stone, particularly marble or cut by hand with metal tools .However, during the

Critical Analysis Of Barn Burning

Humanities
Dr. Davis
November 20, 2017
Barn Burning Critical Essay In William Faulkner s Barn Burning, the audience gets a glimpse of the
ongoing trouble between a son and his father. The son, Sarty, must decide what is best for himself
instead of standing up for his father s wrong choices. The father, Abner, is a jealous, unforgiving,
unapologetic, and disrespectful man. However, Sarty overcomes the negative actions and rises against
his family to do what it truly right. The theme of this story is that the right thing is to always stand up
for the right thing. Doing the right thing is proof of coming of age, and showing maturity. Since the
beginning, Sarty knew his father wasn t treating people fairly. Sarty states, Maybe he will feel it too.
Maybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (Faulkner 20). The
quote is stated as Sarty and Abner make their way to the de Spain house. Sarty is hoping his father had
learned his lesson from ruining the rug and will do the right thing this time around. Abner never learns
his lesson and believes the men in the family should act like him. Proving this statement, Abner says,
You got to learn to stick to your own blood (Faulkner 42). Although Abner believes Sarty is following
in his footsteps, Sarty is more mature than he is and hates doing the things his father makes him do.
For example, Abner expects Sarty to lie about his testimony. Sarty states, He aims for me to lie ... And
I will have to do hit (Faulkner 57). Sarty is not the only one who knows his father is up to no good,
Major de Spain also sees it. Major de Spain explains, He aims for me to lie ... And I will have to do hit
(Faulkner 64). Although Major de Spain is not on Abner s side, Abner s family is. Sarty s brother tries
to stop Sarty from telling on Abner by yelling, Better tie him to the bedpost (Faulkner 74)! Again,
Sarty is very determined to do the right thing, and save Major de Spain s barn by commenting to his
own mother, Lemme go! ... I don t want to have to hit you (Faulkner 87)! At the end of the story, Sarty
eventually goes against his family and walks into the woods away from everyone. This is a huge
symbol because it demonstrates Sarty

Napster Case
Problem:
The core problem is a lack of overall innovation from Microsoft in entering the digital music
Player market. Their core strategy of providing this device as a networking tool only appealed to 11%
of the target market. Their use of innovation around the integration of wireless technology was not
taking advantage of a key component, connecting to the internet to download additional media. The
lack of innovation was also depicted by their proprietary use of the media that was compatible with
the devices. You could only purchase music from the Zune Store, alienating partners such as Napster
who standardized on the Microsoft
PlaysForSure standard. There was also a lack of innovation in its marketing launch and

Pro s:The real buying power has to reside in the 35 65 population. Imagine
being able to market to this group of professionals, who have a higher discretionary spending ability
that you will convert their, sometimes significant investment in their CD library to a portable device in
an easy and quick fashion. By not allowing them to do this,
Apple and other MP3 only devices have forced consumers to repurchase their music.
Therefore, by appealing to the TCO aspect of the initial investment made by the consumers it could be
a huge new market and access point for Microsoft. Perhaps not as sexy as the young and hip market
that Apple controls, but it s market share after all and Microsoft needs to recognize that this particular
market is already very saturated, so they need to innovate in their feature/function and marketing
techniques, which requires a revamp of their core mission.
Cons: If the integration of a CD library is not easy to use, the target market
would quickly reject the brand. This has to be a plug and play technique.
Issues:
1. Apple has a very dominant foothold on the market. Apple has dominated the market
not only with marketing and brand acceptance, enjoying a $20B+ annual sales business, but
can also claim over 100M customers. Everyone else is so far behind, where Apple enjoys 65%
80% of the market, everyone else is

These experiments included victims being stripped of bones, muscles and nerves; sometimes having

Tractors In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck focus on the causes of the dust bowl and the people in
it. Within the book chapter five clearly shows how the author displays his views of the banks and the
tenant farmers. Steinbeck does this by using point of view, and selection of detail Within the chapter
steinbeck focuses on the description of the tractor drivers hired by the new caretakers of the farm. He
states how the drivers loved the machines in a completely different way then they loved the land like
the previous farmers did. The author does this by stating how the drivers loved the land no more than
the banks did, who loved the land only for a profit. As opposed to the previous farmers who had loved
the land on a more intimate level as they had lived there all their lives. Steinbeck then goes on to show
the mechanical love the driver has for the tractor. This is mechanical because of the way steinbeck
references the machined surfaces and the surgical work. Furthermore the mechanical aspect can be

When the drivers are sitting on break and eating their food the Tenets watch in hunger and disbelief.
This detail shows the nature of the Tenets caused by the tractors. The Tenets are all left hungry
because a few tractors came in and took everyone s job. Because of this Tenets are left hungry while
the drivers sit pretty. Again this perspective is shown through The tractors willingness to completely
destroy the Tenet house. After arguing the Tenet is shown the drivers point of view leading to the
driver explaining how he will plow through the Tenets house if he does not comply. The Tenet can
only try to grasp why the driver would do such a thing especially to his own people. Steinbeck s

  • 2. Josef Mengele Hero A mad scientist by definition is a stock character in popular fiction; a bubbling scientist working on unlikely ways to save the world, or a villainous one best on destroying it. ( mad... ). We were raised hearing the story of Frankenstein and his monster, but what if mad scientists were in fact real. Many people see Joseph Mengele as a ruthless murderer, but he actually had a whole lot to do with the survival of individuals every day. Many don t give him the credit of his findings because it was done under eerie circumstances, but without Mengele we would not have the information we have today about the human body. Josef Mengele was the most influential mad scientist of modern medicine. Josef Mengele was raised in Günzburg, Bavaria, Germany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... N.p., n.d. • 3. All Quiet On The Western Front, German World War I World War I differed from previous wars in the essence that technological sophistication of weaponry such as artillery, poison gas and machine guns created a vehement war with a massive number of casualties. In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, German World War I veteran Erich Maria Remarque delineates the experiences that German soldiers face on the restless front, and the toll that the physical conditions and the mental stress take on the deterioration of the youth of each soldier battling on the terrain. Remarque s war novel strays away from the romantic and glorifying thought of war in order to emphasize the hardships war forced upon the men who fought for their country. The weapons that are in the hands of the men on the front lines become their livelihood, and the terrain of the battle are the only things separating a common man and a man marked by the scars of war. At some point, war no longer becomes a fight between enemies from two different countries, it becomes a battle between one s self and the urge to resist barbaric and animalistic acts when in dire situations. A wide variety of new advanced and manufactured weapons altered the way soldiers regarded battle and the land where they would engage. Life on the front forced German soldiers to come face to face with petrifying weapons that can critically injured, or even kill, one within a matter of seconds. Words such as mines, gas, tanks, machine guns, hand grenades, bombardment, barrage and curtain fire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Robert Machumann Research Paper Robert Schumann was a famous German composer in the Romantic era. When he was young, his talents revealed from poetry to music. In 1830, he decided to be a musician, although he was learning laws. Since he anxiously wanted to be successful in music, his hands got hurt. However, he still had enthusiastic and sensitive depositions. Then he changed to be engaged in creating and commenting on music. Later on, he married Clara Wieck and wrote over hundred outstanding music. Thus, Robert Schumann s experiences had a huge impact on his music. Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau, Germany, on June 8, 1810, at 10:30 p.m., who was also the fifth and youngest child in the Schumann. His father, August Schumann, was an author of chivalric romances and an indefatigable lexicographer. This evoked and cultivated Robert s capabilities of music and literature. After he was about seven, he started piano classes with Gottfried Kuntsch at Saint Mary s. About four years later, Schumann had performances in abendunterhaltungen (semi private evening entertainments), which was organized by Kuntsh. This entertainment gave him opportunities to spread his repertoires in Schumann s early compositional efforts (Daverio). On March 29, 1828, Schumann went to the University of Leipzig and was studying law. Since his mother, Johanna Christiana, worried about Schumann s future career and believed that being a lawyer could have a safe and relaxing life instead of being a musician, she squelched Schumann to ... • 5. Narrative Essay On Going To Chicago You, Josie, have been accepted into GEM s World Academy Chicago! This was the best day of my life. I have been accepted to the best private middle school in Chicago with a full ride. All four years for free. I couldn t believe what just happened to me. This was the highest achievement that I have ever gotten. It seems a little to good to be true. I could see my mother with a pitty smile on her face and kind of scared. Like she is trying to hide something. It wasn t like we were starting school tomorrow. It was June. I found out what it was, we live in Forest Park, which is a full 12 miles from Chicago. To add on, my mom works from 12am to 10am. So that means that I am going to have to take the train all the way into the city. First of all, I ve never really even been out of Forest Park or its neighboring towns other than driving to camp in southern Illinois. So going to Chicago is a huge deal for me. It was an early morning. 6am on a Saturday to be exact, and my mother woke me up. C mon Josie we need to get you to Chicago. Are you coming with? I asked No. Here are a few quarters. Call me on a pay phone and I will come and pick you up. I thought she was crazy. I was going to take the train into Chicago, by myself! I m only 11 years old, then call her on a Payphone! So I hurry off that platform and accidently switch to the purple line as I was rushing to get out of there. I was forced to get off at the next stop and call my mom. That would be fail #2. • 6. Null Hypothesis Research Paper The null hypothesis stated that birds have no seed preference, so therefore they will eat the same amount of each of the seed types and the alternate hypothesis stated that if the bird have a seed preference, then they would choose the black oil seed because they were the easiest to open, contained lots of fat, and were small enough for smaller beaked birds to eat. The null hypothesis was rejected because p value, 3.2 x 〖10〗^( 27), was less than the alpha value, .05, therefore, the alternate hypothesis was accepted. Entering the expected values from the calculations into the Chi Square Test, the p value was found which resulted in the rejection of the Ho hypothesis. The Ha hypothesis was accepted because the birds ate 59 black oil seeds, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The birds ate 27 safflower seeds, 51 striped sunflower seeds, and 59 black oil seeds, which further disproves the null hypothesis. During the experiment, one feisty grackle guarded the bird feeder containing safflower seeds. This could have deterred certain birds from going to this feeder therefore effecting the amount of safflower seeds that were eaten. The chickadees are small birds that are easy prey for larger birds and other animals, so to escape predation; they quickly grab seeds from the feeder and fly away. In the process of hastily grabbing the seeds and flying away, they could have dropped the seed before they got around to eating it. This could also happen for other bird that accidently drop their seeds when they dispose of the hull or because it was a bad seed. The groups calculated how many seeds were ate by the birds by counting the amount of times a bird visited the feeder, but this does not mean that the bird actually ate the seed. These are all possible sources of error that could have affected the results of the Chi Square Test, therefore throwing off the resulted p value that rejected the null ... Information flows around the world Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian philosopher of communication theory, developed the concept of the term Global Village in two of his earliest books The Gutenberg Galaxy, in 1962, and Understanding Media: The Extension of Man, in 1964. He defined global village as a small village where electronic media made it possible, and how the information flows from parts of the world at the same time (Mcluhan, 1964). No matter how far or near of anything happen around the globe, people can see and hear of what have been occurred immediately, with just matter of seconds. Electronic media, Mcluhan said, made people aware of and respond to issues happened around the globe as if it happen in the same village people are living in. Today, after more ... According to Fraser, Nance (1992, p. 110), Public Sphere is a theater in modern societies in which political participation is enacted through the medium of talk . Participatory democracy is a core concept of the public sphere. It is where people come to together to form a public opinion, and that it affects to political action. The only legitimate governments are governments that have its laws and policies shifted by the public opinion of the public sphere (Benhabib, 1992). Democratic governance rests on the capacity of and opportunity for citizens to engage in enlightened debate (Hauser, 1998, p.83). In addition, both concepts of the public sphere and the global village have put a concentration and demonstrate the importance of the use of the media. According to Habermas (1962), the public sphere was set up and happened in many locations such as coffee shops, salons, somewhere in society where individuals could assemble and talk of public matters. With the emergence of the bourgeois public sphere, there is a publishing enterprise, newspaper, where the formed public opinions of people are bridged to government and other societies. Newspaper has been a main tool to use in the public sphere. Later on, According to Habermas (1962), with the emergence of the capitalist system, people more concern with their consumption rather than the political action. Body Worlds Impulse Exhibition Analysis Gabriella Visaggio Body Worlds: Pulse 7/9/15 The Body Worlds: Pulse exhibition was a true experience of a lifetime; enabling us still alive to experience what our bodies go through during death and what happens to our bodies years and years after death. It was incredible to be so close up to these samples that they had for us to view. Not to mention, the amount of information provided in each exhibit shown was very thorough and so informative. It was certainly something that I will take with me for the rest of my life. This process includes five imperative steps that enable us to be persevered after death. The first step, embalming and anatomical dissection, is a process involving halting decay by pumping formalin into the body through the arteries. The formalin will kill the bacteria throughout our bodies and chemically stops the decay of the tissue. Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) The third step, forced impregnation, is quite the interesting step. During this process, a reactive polymer (silicone rubber) replaces the acetone. A Comparison of Film Techniques of Two Film Versions of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley wrote her novel Frankenstein when she was just a young girl of nineteen. She wrote it in 1816, when she went on holiday with her friend, Byron. Byron was already a famous poet, and it was him who suggested that whilst they were away, they should both write a ghost story. At the time it was just a way of passing time and having fun for Mary Shelley, but little did she know that her story would become famous worldwide. Many adaptations of Frankenstein have been made for cinema in the 20th century. Two of the most significant being those studied in this assignment. A man named James Whale directed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1930 French born director Robert Florey was hired by Universal Studios to make the new horror film Frankenstein but he did not satisfy producer Carl Laemmle Jr, and so Director James Whale was hired to replace Florey. Whale, an acclaimed Director, chose 44 year old Boris Karloff as the monster and together with make up specialist Jack Pierce they created the most influential horror image of all times. Boris Karloff s career was launched by the huge success of this film. However, many changes had been made in Whale s version from the original novel. In contrast with this, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was released in 1994, sixty three years after James Whale s version, and unlike his version, it followed very strictly Mary Shelley s original plot. Kenneth Branagh, who also starred in the film as Dr. Frankenstein, directed the film. Branagh is also a British born Director, with a distinguished career in theatre, both as an actor and a director. Branagh is also famously known for adapting Shakespeare s plays into films. Mary Shelleys Frankenstein was filmed in Shepperton studios in England, but with parts of the film shot on location in the Swiss Alps. Tristar Pictures distributed the film. Transcription is where the language of the body s building blocks is transcribed from DNA to RNA and the body will recognize it so it can carry out the next process. Translation of the information collected from RNA is the next step. The information collected is transported to the protein. Certain proteins play specific roles so the body synthesizes the right protein for the specific job at certain time. Production of proteins is one of the most significant processes taking place in the cell. The role of proteins in a cell range from structural, enzymatic and hormonal functions. DNA is responsible for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The double spiral of DNA unwinds and unzips in such a way to release the instructions located for the given protein. Consequently, the instructions are carried out of the nucleus to the ribosomes. This point of location of the DNA molecule is called a gene. Genes act as a pattern for another type of nucleic acid called RNA. Instead of a thymine as in DNA, each adenine of the unzipped DNA attracts a uracil, U. The other bases follow the same pattern as in DNA i.e., G, T, and C attract the same partners C, A and G. The single chain of nucleotides which is newly formed is called messenger RNA and its formation is called as transcription. mRNA carries an exact duplicate of the information recorded in the DNA and leaves the nucleus with the instructions. The mRNA molecules are attracted to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm. Another smaller kind of RNA molecules called transfer RNA (tRNA.) also is there in the cytoplasm. Only one kind of amino acid can be attached to one end of a tRNA molecule while the other end carries a distinctive tag to identify it. The strand of mRNA lines up at the ribosome and the base pairs are attracted to their partners again. The attraction between the mRNA and the tRNA compliments each other. A triplet sequence of mRNA transcript codes for a specific amino acid and the sequence is called a codon. A corresponding triplet sequence on the transfer RNA (tRNA) called as ... Many unions were established in the early 1800s, but due to the widespread fear of socialism and the repression from the courts, the majority of them eventually failed. One way is through the difference in abilities of individuals to survive and reproduce. These differences, or variation, are largely created by genetic mutations in the DNA, ultimately making each individual different from one another. This idea of variation can be shown in Figure 2, where even though they are all the same species in Daphne Major, Medium Ground Finches, they all have a variety of different Beak Depths. Soon, most will have the medium size beak depth, and ultimately that is a change among the population, or evolution. The second way a species may evolutionize is through the competition of limited resources. Competition is often caused by the overpopulation of a species, where there are too many individuals and not as much foods. In these situations, some will have a better chance of beating the competition than others. Figure 3 helps us better understand this idea by showing how some Finches died during a drought. He enlightens readers that people have lost their ability to evaluate something s worth by themselves, what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy delivers his message through his essay without most of the technical jargon one would expect. In doing so the problem he points out seems less of a concept far from our understanding but one that the regular person can solve. To begin his inquiry of life and sovereignty Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand Canyon for what it is. Percy tells the story of the famous explorer Garcia Lopez de Cardenas who discovered the Grand Canyon and was astonished by it. He paints a beautiful scene of a newly discovered land and then shortly after asks a question that would confuse readers of its relevance before his essay developed. He asks, Does not one see the same sight from the Bright Angel Lodge that Cárdenas saw (1)? The obvious answer that most readers would say is yes but as one reads on Percy argues otherwise. Following up on his question he attempts to make his point clear by setting the experience of Cardenas discovering the Canyon to have a value that he labeled P. Sexuality and spirituality thrives as other topics in which Anzaldua combines genres. In this instance she combines history and autobiography. Again this gives a more humane look at history. However, this use is more distinctly personal whereas the previous combination of history and poetry provided a more universal personal approach. This talks about Anzaldúa s part in history. Anzaldúa writes, Being lesbian and raised Catholic, I was indoctrinated as straight, I made the choice to be queer (for some it is genetically inherent) (41). This line is found in a section dealing with homophobia that resides heavily in the cultures she identifies with. While this phobia exists in the culture at large and is recorded as such, Anzaldúa provides a personal account as an example. In another way, language also provides this dynamic that Anzaldúa aims for. Anzaldúa takes the separate Spanish and English languages and her own Chicana tongue and creates a book that makes uses of both. Both languages are vital in some way. The descriptive wording that Keats uses makes you think of the past and the events that led up to what he sees on the urn. All you need is a weekend and a little planning to have all the beauty, tranquility and calming atmosphere you desire at an affordable price. Your first decision will be to find a spot for your garden. Most people choose spots where there is a good amount of shade in the afternoon and early evening. You will need at least five hours of good sunlight a day for your water plants since most water plants need direct sunlight to survive and be healthy. It s not recommended that you place your water garden directly under a shade tree with over hanging branches that will drop leaves into your pond, unless you like cleaning leaves out of it everyday. It may help to remember while choosing a spot for your pond that water is heavy, about 8 pounds per gallon, the addition of plants and fish will make things pretty heavy so be sure the area you choose will hold everything plus the pump. Some people like a variety of plants, fish or accessories in their ponds, while others only want two or three things, this all depends on you and what pleases your senses. Don t forget to place your garden close to an easily accessible water source since you will need to replace water levels and keep things fresh and stable everyday. Critical Analysis Of Barn Burning Kaitlyn Booth Humanities Dr. Davis November 20, 2017 Barn Burning Critical Essay In William Faulkner s Barn Burning, the audience gets a glimpse of the ongoing trouble between a son and his father. The son, Sarty, must decide what is best for himself instead of standing up for his father s wrong choices. The father, Abner, is a jealous, unforgiving, unapologetic, and disrespectful man. However, Sarty overcomes the negative actions and rises against his family to do what it truly right. The theme of this story is that the right thing is to always stand up for the right thing. Doing the right thing is proof of coming of age, and showing maturity. Since the beginning, Sarty knew his father wasn t treating people fairly. Sarty states, Maybe he will feel it too. Maybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (Faulkner 20). The quote is stated as Sarty and Abner make their way to the de Spain house. Sarty is hoping his father had learned his lesson from ruining the rug and will do the right thing this time around. Abner never learns his lesson and believes the men in the family should act like him. Proving this statement, Abner says, You got to learn to stick to your own blood (Faulkner 42). Although Abner believes Sarty is following in his footsteps, Sarty is more mature than he is and hates doing the things his father makes him do. For example, Abner expects Sarty to lie about his testimony. Sarty states, He aims for me to lie ... And I will have to do hit (Faulkner 57). Sarty is not the only one who knows his father is up to no good, Major de Spain also sees it. Major de Spain explains, He aims for me to lie ... And I will have to do hit (Faulkner 64). Although Major de Spain is not on Abner s side, Abner s family is. Sarty s brother tries to stop Sarty from telling on Abner by yelling, Better tie him to the bedpost (Faulkner 74)! Again, Sarty is very determined to do the right thing, and save Major de Spain s barn by commenting to his own mother, Lemme go! ... I don t want to have to hit you (Faulkner 87)! At the end of the story, Sarty eventually goes against his family and walks into the woods away from everyone. This is a huge symbol because it demonstrates Sarty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Napster Case Problem: The core problem is a lack of overall innovation from Microsoft in entering the digital music Player market. Their core strategy of providing this device as a networking tool only appealed to 11% of the target market. Their use of innovation around the integration of wireless technology was not taking advantage of a key component, connecting to the internet to download additional media. The lack of innovation was also depicted by their proprietary use of the media that was compatible with the devices. You could only purchase music from the Zune Store, alienating partners such as Napster who standardized on the Microsoft PlaysForSure standard. There was also a lack of innovation in its marketing launch and overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pro s:The real buying power has to reside in the 35 65 population. Imagine being able to market to this group of professionals, who have a higher discretionary spending ability that you will convert their, sometimes significant investment in their CD library to a portable device in an easy and quick fashion. By not allowing them to do this, Apple and other MP3 only devices have forced consumers to repurchase their music. Therefore, by appealing to the TCO aspect of the initial investment made by the consumers it could be a huge new market and access point for Microsoft. Perhaps not as sexy as the young and hip market that Apple controls, but it s market share after all and Microsoft needs to recognize that this particular market is already very saturated, so they need to innovate in their feature/function and marketing techniques, which requires a revamp of their core mission. Cons: If the integration of a CD library is not easy to use, the target market would quickly reject the brand. This has to be a plug and play technique. Issues: 1. Apple has a very dominant foothold on the market. Apple has dominated the market not only with marketing and brand acceptance, enjoying a $20B+ annual sales business, but can also claim over 100M customers. Everyone else is so far behind, where Apple enjoys 65% 80% of the market, everyone else is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Pros And Cons Of Human Experimentation When World War 2 is mentioned, most people think of the Auschwitz and what the Germans did to the Jews to create the perfect race . Those Jews were sent to the concentration camps where they were tortured and a team of twenty so called medical professionals got to experiment on the lesser species . These experiments included victims being stripped of bones, muscles and nerves; sometimes having entire limbs removed to transplant to other victims; intentional exposure to mustard gas along with so many other terrible practices. In today s society we frown on human experimentation, determined not to let history repeat but with society s growing need for betterness, medical professionals are still experimenting on people, just under the guise ... • 35. Tractors In The Grapes Of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck focus on the causes of the dust bowl and the people in it. Within the book chapter five clearly shows how the author displays his views of the banks and the tenant farmers. Steinbeck does this by using point of view, and selection of detail Within the chapter steinbeck focuses on the description of the tractor drivers hired by the new caretakers of the farm. He states how the drivers loved the machines in a completely different way then they loved the land like the previous farmers did. The author does this by stating how the drivers loved the land no more than the banks did, who loved the land only for a profit. As opposed to the previous farmers who had loved the land on a more intimate level as they had lived there all their lives. Steinbeck then goes on to show the mechanical love the driver has for the tractor. This is mechanical because of the way steinbeck references the machined surfaces and the surgical work. Furthermore the mechanical aspect can be supported by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the drivers are sitting on break and eating their food the Tenets watch in hunger and disbelief. This detail shows the nature of the Tenets caused by the tractors. The Tenets are all left hungry because a few tractors came in and took everyone s job. Because of this Tenets are left hungry while the drivers sit pretty. Again this perspective is shown through The tractors willingness to completely destroy the Tenet house. After arguing the Tenet is shown the drivers point of view leading to the driver explaining how he will plow through the Tenets house if he does not comply. The Tenet can only try to grasp why the driver would do such a thing especially to his own people. Steinbeck s imagery by use of detail shows the innocent good nature of the Tenets through their conversation with the driver while also showing the ruthless nature of the Tractor and it s ...
