A Research Paper on Martin Luther King Jr.
Michael King Jr. Was born to parents Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King
on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King s family has quite an extensive
religious background, which starts with his grandfather, A.D Williams. In 1893, A.D
he revives the small but strong congregation of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He
later married Jennie Celeste Parks and they had a single child together, named
Alberta. Alberta would end up getting married to Michael King Sr., a man product of
a sharecropping family in a very poor community. This lead to the couple living with

King was shot while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis,
Tennessee on April 4, 1968, by James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray was arrested in
London, England on June 8, 1968, and extradited to Memphis, Tennessee to stand
trial for the assassination of Dr. King. On March 9, 1969, before coming to trial,
he entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to ninety nine years in the Tennessee
State Penitentiary. Dr. King had been in Memphis to help lead sanitation workers
in a protest against low wages and intolerable conditions. His funeral services were
held April 9, 1968, in Atlanta at Ebenezer Church and on the campus of Morehouse
College, with the President of the United States proclaiming a day of mourning
and flags being flown at half staff. The area where Dr. King was entombed is

Life Changing Experience Essay
Life Changing Experience
About one year ago I had a life changing experience, a trip to a little town called
Kerry on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. It was the most beautiful place that I have
ever seen. Being in the presence of such beauty helped me see life from a different
perspective. I was just going to be happy, appreciate what I have, be open minded,
not take anything for granted, and love everyone and everything. When I came back
from
Ireland I was truly happy, nothing could make me upset. But after awhile my
constant elation came to a gradual end, but I was soon to find that even though my
elation ended I was going to be a happy, loving, and open minded person forever.
And there was everyday influences like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

something they don t appreciate. When I think about those movies I am really
happy, because I am lucky, free, and free to seize any opportunity that comes my
way. Art also reminds me of my happiness, a single piece of art work can capture a
moment of emotion or feeling. Artists like Claude Monet really capture emotion well,
in the painting, The Stroll: Camille Monet , Monet painted Camille standing in the
middle of a field, it sounds simple. But Monet did such a good job that there seems to
be more, there is emotion. That is what makes art special, emotion, and that I can
have my own thoughts about what the artist is trying to say through their painting. In
the Edward
Hopper painting, Route 6 there is a real warm feeling coming from it. That warm
feeling is one of the best emotions that I have experienced, the only other time I get
that feeling is when nature is at it s best (sunsets, sunrises, grassy fields, ect.). That
brings me to the artist Liz Sexton, her paintings of nature are some of the most
beautiful, natural, and unique pieces of art that I have ever seen. I think that I am on
of the luckiest people in the world to be able to appreciate this artistic beauty, that in
its self makes me a happy person. The most important influence in my
When I Have Managed To Make My Wife Summary
The author begins the story with a line that sets the entire story. The first line of the
story is, The truth of the matter is: I have managed to make my wife very, very
small. The narrator goes on to explain it was not intentional and the miniaturization
was an accident. The author then has the narrator give background information and
explain the story of what happens to his wife and himself. The story ends with the
extreme measures the miniature wife has taken upon herself to torture the narrator.
The miniature wife sets trip wires throughout the home and sticks tiny spears in the
carpet. The first scenes of the story are about the wife and the miniaturization. The
next scenes following explain how upset the wife is with her current state. She does
things to the narrator that mess with his appearance by dulling his razors and
removing the buttons on his clothes. The narrator keeps issues to himself because
he doesn t want to lose his job or there be a police investigation. The narrator then
makes a dollhouse for his wife and does until the end of the story where she invites
her husband to have dinner at home, and when he comes home she is naked... Show

I thought this story was very ambitious. It reminded me of an old movie called
Honey I Shrunk The Kids. The process of making a human the size of a coffee mug
is rather far off, I enjoyed the humor the author added. The things that the wife
would do to the husband I felt sorry for him, but at the same time they were such
little things a miniature person would do if they were home all day and bored. I
think the wife did those things to the narrator because she blames him for what has
happened to her. The author on top of the ambitious story then has the wife cheat on
her husband. This twist I was surprised by; I thought there was going to be a happy
ending between the two was they would reconcile and perhaps the husband would
shrink himself. I felt the author made the story grander by adding the twist at the
Lin Manuel Miranda Influence
An influential person is a person who affects people s lives. They have their words
heard and some people can agree with them and some people cannot. They are
inspirational or seen as evil and cruel and people watch them for good reasons. This
essay will explain why Lin Manuel Miranda is a influential person and how his
words are inspirational. Lin Manuel shows that musicis one of the best tools to use to
spread inspiration and become influential. Miranda has taken his talent for music and
writing and words to inspire people. Most to all of his listeners would agree, he is
definitely very influential.

The first part of his speech states that nothing in life can be insured, it s all up to the
people and what they decide to do. His musical Hamilton is proof that history is
remembered and it is up to the people to not repeat anything bad, learning from the
experience of our ancestors. Clearly, we all have to get back up on our feet even
when hate and fear are growing and never give up. The last part of his speech tells
you that if you love someone or something, do not let others influence that. People
can love who/what they want and it can never be killed or swept aside . Another
speech, this one about his Grammy, says, We write music, we write songs to tell a
story, This clearly shows and supports the importance of music like his, inspiring
others and telling stories like books, informing people through music that can toy
with your emotions just as well if not better than books can. A last speech, this one
from his Pulitzer Prize, says, To be the 9th musical to ever win the Pulitzer Prize for

White Collar Crime
Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and
businessmen go hand in hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in
their work. They use their heads to get what they want instead of using a little
muscle. These criminals are just as dangerous as the rapists and murderers. In these
times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of white collar
crimes. President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in
the Whitewater and Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been
formally charged with any wrongdoing, there is a committee currently investigating
their dealings and charges are not out of the question for either of them. In Michael
Isikoff s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These people have more opportunities to commit a white collar crime than a person
with little authority. Peter Michelmore, a journalist for Readers Digest describes
this situation well in his article, On the Trail of a Scam He describes a savings and
loan scam and the man behind it all. Meyer learned that New Era was run by John
G. Bennet, Jr., a 57 year old evangelical Christian. (112) New Era was a getting
money from a private university, in which he promised huge returns on their
investment. New Era did show them huge profits, but only to gain their trust and
invest more money. The private university was gaining trust in New Era and
investing more money. Finally, when They had invested a large sum of money,
New Era collapsed and John Bennet walked away with the university s money. Mr.
Bennet is a prime example of our findings. He is a man over the age of eighteen
and he is in a position of power. People have entrusted him with their money. To
commit his crime, he needed to be in a position where he was trusted, or in authority.
After he won their trust, he took their money. White collar crimes are growing at an
alarming rate and must be curbed. There are many things that the nation can do to
slow the growth of these crimes. The white collar crime that affects the most people
is the scam. For that reason, scam prevention will be emphasized more than
embezzlement. I feel that the most effective weapon against these crimes is to
Classical And Classical Realism
Randall Schweller defines realism as a theory essentially about power and security.
States relentlessly seek power and security because they exist in a self help system.
. Although this is one of many definitions of realism as a whole discipline; there are
many different varieties of realism, all of which have their own distinct views on
realism, also with similarities. Firstly, there is classical realism which is split into
traditional classical realism and twentieth century classical realism, although ever so
slightly different they both claim human nature can explain how states behave and
react. Classical realism suggests human nature is to always seek more power. The
key thinker for classical realism is Hans Morgenthau. Secondly, neorealism or
structural realism. This also has the key assumption like classical realism that states
want power, but this want for power isn t to do with human nature. Structural realism
has three main elements: organizing principles, differentiation of units and
distribution capabilities, pioneered by Kenneth Waltz. These three elements can
explain how states behave in such a way, this makes this variation of realism unique.
Also, John Mearsheimerextends structural realism to offensive realism, which states
a different view on the power dynamic. Furthermore, Neo classical realism which is
a combination of classical and structural. This theory mainly by Fareed Zakaria
explains how here are many different factors which can explain how states
Dichotomy Of Evil And Evil In Voltaire s Candide
Dualism exists in human nature. Voltaire, an Enlightenment writer explores the
tendency of humans to seek out good, but also the acts of evil that continue to
happen. Voltaire catalogs a diverse cast of flawed characters in his signature satire
Candide. Many of these characters contrast other characters in different aspects.
These character foils highlight the weaknesses and limited strengths of its
counterpart. These flaws are inevitably a human characteristic that corrupt humanity
but also essential in development. By intertwining vice and virtuewithin characters,
Voltaireintones that humans are all intrinsically flawed, but the distinction between
the antagonistic dichotomy of evil and good is ambiguous.
First, our protagonist Candide and his valet Cacambo serve as appropriate
examples: a naive optimist and a worldly pragmatist. When Candide finds the
monkey lovers appalling and unusual, Cacambo does not see anything odd about
their passion (Voltaire 49). Exposed by the cruelties of the real world, Cacambo s
sharp wits allow him to take control of a situation and suffer less adversities than
other characters. Inexperienced and innocent, Candide can only think one
dimensionally; instead of thinking and acting for himself, Candide surrounds
himself with people who do the decision making for him. Only because of the wits
and decisions of Cacambo, Old Woman, and Martin is he able to survive until the
end of the novel. Voltaire contrasts Cacambo s wisdom with Candide s

Little lights shine their way down the rugged winding path. Foot steps trudge in
front and behind staying close together. Dodging thorns and burs left and right.
Ouch! Every time. Quiet laughs fill the silence as we continue on. Our trek takes us

duty of the activity was to stand in front of hundreds of eyes and show the different

Age Of Lead By Margaret Atwood Essay
It is logical to assume that two separate stories are likely to convey entirely unrelated
messages to the audience. Weight and The Age of Lead by Margaret Atwood might
serve as a good illustration of this assumption, the former exploring such themes as
gender roles, domestic violence and guilt associated with betrayal, while the latter
dealing with far larger subject like ecological catastrophe as a consequence of
destroying and irresponsible human activity. Though curiously enough, the author
skillfully conveys these messages through a number of similar tools, for example,
plot structure, protagonists characteristics and narrativetechniques. So, when going
through one of the above stories the reader cannot help recalling the other one.
Indeed, a closer look at Margaret Atwoods short stories The Age of Lead and Weight
reveals a surprising number of similarities between them.
First and foremost, each of the stories portrays a female protagonist who is not able to
build serious relationship with men. Both Jane in The Age of Lead and the narrator in
Weight are independent, self sufficient women in their forties, owning a business, who

Although the message each of them carries is different, reading them creates a
strange sense of dГ©jГ vu. In fact, both short stories depict women, their emotional
state and social status, as well as portray one significant event that influences greatly
their life. A reader paying scrupulous attention to detail might even come across
some identical phrases used by the author in her both works, like the toaster oven, so
convenient for solo dinners (Atwood, Weight 212) and a toaster oven, so perfect for
solo dining (Atwood, The Age of Lead 12). Nevertheless, this common feature just
emphasizes Atwood s talent and her unique ability to make stories different and
similar at the same
Postcolonial Lens
Postcolonial critiques of literary works are often accomplished by reading and
interpreting the work with a specific theme in mind or a lens . By allowing oneself
to use a lens when reading specific works, it allows the reader to interpret the
effects of the themes and the changes throughout the writings. The goal of the
critical lens is to seek to understand the behavior of characters or the society ( Post
Colonialism, 2016). A few of the most popular themes used to view literary works
are identity, oppression and power; applying this lens can give the reader a different
perspective and experience while reading the writings.
The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Tempestboth have several postcolonial themes that
run through them. In both, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme of power can be observed, in addition to Prospero, by the actions of
Antonio, Sebastian and Caliban. Moreover, this theme of power is evident from the
opening scene all the way through to the end of Act 2. It is hard to see a more
prominent theme in the play of the Tempest.
Prospero, the protagonist, was originally the Duke of Milan, but had his kingdom
taken from him by his own brother and was banished to an island with only his
daughter and his books. His books were his power and he loved them greatly
telling his daughter Miranda Me, poor man, my library Was dukedom large

books. Prospero s books were a symbol of power and he used his books and his time

School Voucher Essay
I propose a school voucher program that would be widespread throughout the state of
Connecticut with special consideration to the Hartford school district. Each student in
the state will receive a voucher equivalent to 65 percent of the per pupil cost of the
public school in their district. The remaining 35 percent of spending would remain
with the schoolto pay for fixed costs (with a few exceptions). School who take in
out of district would receive the money that follows the child. For example, a
Ellington student would receive a voucher of about $4,982 (65 percent of per pupil
spending) and that child could spend that money on any participating public or non
religious private schoolin the state. Schools have the choice to participate in the
program. However, if public schools choose not to participate then state funding will
be reduced and reallocated to participating schools. However, a few school districts
are exceptions. I recommend abolished traditional public schools in Hartford, East
Hartford, Bloomfield, and Manchester. The current performance of students is
unacceptable in those district that have high minority and poverty levels. You should
close the public schools and instead allow private, magnet, and charter schools take
control over the district. You should carefully select which schools are allowed in the
district to ensure diversity in educational opportunities. Some schools should target
students in specific categories like math, science, and the arts;
William Wallace As A Hero From Mel Gibson s Braveheart
Joseph Campbell defines a hero as an individual who is capable of leaving their
ordinary everyday life in order to assist those who need aid and support in a
separate world. According to Campbell, the hero must complete the majority of his
twelve stages in order to classify as a hero. William Wallace, from Mel Gibson s film
Braveheart, displays all of Joseph Campbell s stages of a hero through his conquest to
gain freedom for his home country, Scotland. At the beginning of the film, the hero
William Wallaceis introduced as a young child to represent his journey of becoming
a hero begins at a young age. Young Wallace lives with his father and his brother in
a very poor village. One day Wallace decides to sneakily follow his father and
discovers numerous hanging bodies of the Scottish that King Longshanks,
had...hanged (Braveheart). At that very moment, something clicked inside of
William Wallace and he knew he must do something about the English s evil reign.
Wallace says to his father, I can fight. (Braveheart), causing a small vergence into
Campbell s stage the call to adventure . The father declines his son s offer and rides
off to battle. Sadly, Wallace s father does not return from the mission and young
William Wallace must now go and live with his uncle, Argyle Wallace. When Wallace
first encounters his uncle he is entering Campbell s stage of meeting the mentor and
he informs his nephew that, we ll stay tonight but tomorrow they will depart. A few

Supernova Research Paper
A supernova is a stellar explosion that happens in the galaxy. This can have as much
energy as our Sun or any regular star. These can be seen throughout the entire
galaxy, but it is hard for us to see because of the amount of dust that covers it blocks
our view. Johannes Kepler was the last person to observe the last Supernovain our
Milky Way galaxy. He discovered that phenomenon in the year 1604. A supernova
is created when there is a change in a core or center of a star. There are only two
ways that a change can happen in a star. The first way it can change happens in
binary star systems. Those are two stars that orbit at the same point. A carbon oxygen
white dwarf takes away matter from another star. Subsequently the white dwarf will...

When the star actually starts to run out of nuclear fuel some of the mass flows into
the star s core. When the core becomes too heavy it cannot take its own
gravitational force. Which causes the core to collapse, and as it collapses it results
in a giant supernova. Many people worry that the sun will become into a supernova.
That has no chance of happening because the sun does not have enough mass to
become a supernova. Supernovas are very interesting things that happen in our
universe. Even though they can only burn for a short period of time, it has the
potential to tell scientists a lot about what is going on. There is a specific form of
supernovas that has shown scientists that we all live in a universe that keeps
expanding. Which means the universe is growing at an increasing rate. Many
scientists however believe that supernovas have a huge role in distributing elements
throughout the entire universe. As the star begins to explode it shoots debris and
elements all over space. The elements that we find here on Earth are created in the
core of the star. As these elements move onto different parts of the universe it helps
form new planets and
The Effects Of Greenhouse Gases On Earth s Normal
Surface...
A dangerous atmospheric deviation by the increase in Earth s normal surface
temperature is experienced by the impact of greenhouse gasses. This effect is named
as Global Warming. There are four main components which help atmosphere to warm
and they are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and water vapor. Some examples
explaining this effects are carbon dioxideoutflows from blazing fossil powers or from
deforestation, which trap warm.
Various elements have been adding to this ascent in the normal worldwide
temperature either specifically or by implication, right from the time the planet
appeared. It alludes to the procedure wherein the radiations originating from the Sun
are caught by the greenhouse gasses inside of the air of the Earth, which thus causes
the temperature close to the Earth s surface to rise. It is believed that the
greenhouse effect has increased the Earth s temperature by some place around 24
percent, with carbon dioxide adding to around 12 percent of the greenhouse effect,
water vapor contributing around 36 percent, methane 5 to 10 percent, and Ozone
making around 3 to 7 percent of the same. People had begun adding to a worldwide
temperature alteration around 8000 years prior with the begin of agribusiness,
wherein deforestation to clear land for cultivating brought about a critical ascent in
the measure of carbon dioxide in the air. Researchers claim that awful practices in
industries results in the arrival of different greenhouse gasses which
Transnational Migration
Transnational migration has affected me locally, my father now works for a
German company, and they bought the company he works for. It has been an
adjustment for him and for us, there s a lot of stress as the work culture changes at
his company. In my case our local community has also changed, there are a lot of
Germans that have relocated and there is now a blend of German speaking people
in the community. We often frequent Oktoberfest at the neighbor s house. For me
it affected my school, with the new demographic changes the language course
shifted. I took three years of German as a result. From a national perspective, the
migration of workers from Mexico is apparent everywhere, from my community to
just about anywhere in the U.S. I have traveled. Migrant workers from Mexico
have become an integral part of the U.S. workforce. And as a result the social
changes across the U.S. are evident, whether it s the music or the cuisine Latin
influences have grown abundant in our society. In retrospect, we do not have open
borders with Canada for commerce. We have laws that are in place that govern
over transport of goods and services and laws over illegal aliens whether they re
from Canada or elsewhere. The only thing really open is the fact that there isn t a
fence. The notion of an open board is a phrase that characterizes I believe that
immigrants should be allowed to preserve their cultural elements so long as they
adhere to the laws of the land. The cultural differences
A Rose For Emily Narrator Essay
Narration can be used to manipulate a story. The author chooses who and how a
story is told. It can manipulate the reader s views of characters and situations in
the story. The point of view that A Rose for Emily was written in was third person.
It served as a collective town voice and let the reader in on the thoughts and
opinions the townspeople had on Miss Emily. This type of narration can be used to
detach a reader from the story or characters, but in Faulkner s case he wrote it in a
way that the narratoris slowly pushing us to feel empathy for Miss Emily. The
narrator is an unidentified voice that seems to work as a collective voice for the
townspeople. The narrator is unbiased and gives out the town gossip with no side
note on his/her thoughts. The reader can then take the information and do with it
what they please. The unbiased thoughts can bring us closer to Miss Emily. They
let us hear her story from an outsider s view and we as readers are making up our
own thoughts and opinions on Miss Emily as we read through the flashbacks of the
story. The narrator conveys his/her disgust in the way they look at Miss Emily
through the opening line of the story. The men through a sort of respectful affection

The narrator uses he said, she said type of voice when talking about the town
gossip about Miss Emily. In A Rose for Emily Faulkner writes, So the next day we
all said, She will kill herself. We had said, She will marry him. Then we said, She
will persuade him yet. . [35] I see that the way the narrator presents the information
he or she does not side with the gossip all the time. Seeing that can make us as
readers feel empathy for Miss Emily. Having rumors and gossip sent around about
yourself could be quite upsetting, and for that we feel compassion for Miss Emily,
just like the Narrator

I chose to write about the art piece by Thomas Moran after going to the Museum of
Fine Arts in Houston. While walking through the buildings I saw a mass of artwork
that ranged from gold artifacts to paintings. I have to say that it was a lot to take in
but I chose the painting by Thomas Moran called the Stranded Ship on East Hampton

stranded ship in the distance. I really like the contrast of the dark waves with the

Introduction:
Language can play many different roles in our day to day life. It s a means of
communication and a way of expressing our needs, wants, feelings and emotions.
The purpose of this essay is to firstly highlight the important role language plays in
every stage of a child s life, while also examining the learning processes and cues that
are used by children to understand written, oral and visual language. Secondly,
discuss what it means for a child to be multiliterate in today s society as technology
continues to increase. And lastly how language arises from cultural and social
contexts, and is understood by people in terms of their own social and cultural
backgrounds (Green, 2006). Gestural:
Language is the primary form of communication for the human race and can be both
seen and heard and can incorporate a range of modes including music, movement,
dance, story telling, visual arts, media and drama, as well as talking, listening,
viewing, reading and writing (EYLF, 2009). While oral and written languages are
the most common amongst people, meaning can also be conveyed through visual
forms such as gestures, posture, facial expression, eye contact and movement. When
people are not able to communicate properly and pick up on these important signals
they are significantly disadvantaged in many ways (Fellowes, Oakley, Ivonne, 2014).
Sign language is a perfect example of language that can be seen and not heard as it s
a form of communication through which people
Database Management Systems That Are Used For Non...
Overview
NoSQL is generally interpreted as Not only SQL [1]. It is a class of database
management systems that are used for non relational database. Typically NoSQL
database does not use two dimensional table to store data. The four generally
categories of NoSQL database are key values database, column databases, document
databases, and graph databases [2]. NoSQL database is an indispensable part of big
data. Most company choose NoSQL database because it yields better performance
when compared to relation database. Many relational databases have been existing
for more than 20 years, while most NoSQL databases have a history of less than 5
years. Because NoSQL databases are so young, they exposes lots of security issues.
Many NoSQL databases are still focusing on adding features and improving
performance, while strength security mechanism is still a low priority task. There
were already two data breaches happened in companies that are using NoSQL
databases (MongoHQ in 2013 and LinkedIn in 2012 [3]).

NoSQL database characteristics
The problem of relational database is that its performance degrade significantly while
handling exponential growth of semi structured data or unstructured data [4]. The
NoSQL databases possess properties called BASE (Basically available, Soft state, and
eventually consistent) that makes it much more scalable than relational databases. As
the CAP theorem [5] said, a database system cannot have high consistency, high

Essay
August 29th, 2016. That was my first day of school at College of Southern
Nevada. It has been about 10 years since last time I took a class at a local
community college in Cerritos, California and I couldn t get over the
overwhelming feeling of being back in school. After all these years I am finally
able to pursue my educational goal so I can achieve my dream. Looking back, I
never thought I was able to actually start school and restart my education. There
were life experiences that made it hard for me to be able to dream about going to
school and find something meaningful to do with my life. After going through all
the hardship in my life I want to say that no matter what type of situations anyone
is given, never give up on the journey to achieve dreams. Many people deal with
hardships in their life and I m definitely not claiming that I m special but I want to
be able to connect with some readers that might be going through similar hardships
in life as myself. I ll be ecstatic if I m able to make a positive change to even one
person s life after reading through my descriptive story.
In 2007, I was 10 years old when my family moved from South Korea to the United
States. It was a move that I did not want, leaving all my friends and relative back
home and having to start a new life where I did not know the language and the
culture of the country that I m moving to. My parents wanted good education for me
and my sister, Jane, and although I hated that I was leaving the
The Uniform Crime Report
The Uniform Crime Report identifies Part 1 Offenses as: criminal homicide,
forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, motor vehicle
theft, and arson (U.S Department of Justice, 2009). These crimes can be more
simply described as the most serious offences. For this project and my analysis, I will
assume that all 100% of all crimeswere reported during the years in which the data
was collected. Figure 2: Calls for Service, clearly shows that the number of police
calls have increased drastically in all precincts between 1983 and 1989. This is
especially true between 1984 and 1986. Interestingly, the West Precinct seems to
have had some sudden, drastic drops in the number of calls for service between 1986

Essay about Crucial Conversations
Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High Crucial
Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High discusses how to handle
disagreements and high stakes communication. It is written on the premise that
when you are stuck in any situation whether it s at home or work there is a crucial
conversation keeping you from accomplishing the desired results. If you can learn to
speak up in these crucial moments effectively, then you can accomplish the results
you are after. The authors support this idea by referring to people who are
considered influential by their peers and managers in their work and relationships.
They studied successful communicators over a period of 25 years and concluded that

Learn to look for when a conversation becomes crucial, for signs of silence and
violence, and for your own style under stress. A large part of this is watching your
actions and emotions, as well as the actions and emotions of the other person.
Paying attention to both the content of the discussion and how people are acting
and feeling is no easy task. But it s an essential part of dialogue. Chapter 5: Make It
Safe: How to Make It Safe to Talk about Almost Anything When things go wrong in
crucial conversations, we assume the content of our message is the problem, so
we begin to water it down or avoid it altogether. But, as long as your intent is pure
and you learn how to make it safe for others, you can talk to almost anyone about
almost anything. The key is to make the other person feel safe. To do this, there are
two things the person needs to know. First, they need to know that you care about
their best interests and goals. This is called mutual purpose. Second, they need to
know that you care about them. This is called mutual respect. When people believe
both of these things, they relax and can absorb what you re saying; they feel safe.
The instant they don t believe them (and it can happen instantaneously even with
those we have long and loving relationships with), safety breaks down and silence or
violence follows. To restore safety in the face of silence or violence, you must restore
mutual purpose and respect. Chapter 6:
Impact Of 2012 Olympics On Hospitality Essay
2012 Olympics and its impact on the hospitality industry of London.
Research Background / Context
On 6th July 2005 London was selected as the host city for the 2012 summer Olympic
and Paralympics Games. The games is often labelled as the greatest show on earth
which involves thousands of sports persons both men and women from around the
globe aiming to reach the ultimate in sporting achievement. The Olympic Games will
take place entirely in London, but the bid team had stressed throughout their
campaign that the games would benefit the whole of Britain.
The proposed research is on the impact of the hosting of the 2012 Olympics in

Athens 2004 would have benefited from its investment in urban regeneration and
transport infrastructure. Before the Games Sydney 2000 was a great city to visit and
now is better again after its Olympic experience. Atlanta 1996 was located within 2
hours flying time from major US cities. It was a major domestic convention hub
before the Games with comparatively few international visitors. But as inbound
statistics reflect, Atlanta is still a major domestic convention hub with no hard
evidence of an Olympics afterglow in the inbound market.
Barcelona 1992 achieved incredible tourism image transformation but the hotel
market in the post Olympic era was badly over supplied for several years. Whereas
Seoul 1988 opened its inbound tourism industry. The city added several hotels and
infrastructure investment which dramatically improved the tourism appeal and till
now Seoul remains a strong hotel market. As seen here Barcelona and Seoul were the
two most successful cities in creating additional inbound traffic. But the point to note
was that both these cities had low profile tourism at the time of hosting the games and
so they had much to gain from the hosting of the games.
When we refer to the term Hospitality we normally refer to the relationship between a
guest and a host.

And if borders controls were repressed regarding migrating? The
Migration Without Borders scenario sometimes called open borders is increasingly

How Does Shakespeare Present Ophelia s Relationship

Throughout Shakespeare s story of Hamlet the main character young hamlet has little
experience with relationships with women. He often struggles to appropriately
convey his emotions in a positive and constructive manner. We see this both after
Old Hamlet dies and when he begins to express his antic disposition. Due to his lack
of experience with women he struggles to have a positive relationship with women.
Shortly after Old Hamletdies his mother begins to notice how incredible depressed
Hamlet is. Although she sees these emotions she is not quite sure why he is so
upset and what to do about it. Instead of, communicating his feelings to his mother
and tell her what is wrong and what she can do to help him he keeps his emotions
pent up inside therefore causing himself more harm than good. While in the midst of
his depressive state hamlet speaks How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable, seem to

As the play progresses Hamlet begins to act with an antic disposition to confuse the
king in order to have an easier target. Although Ophelia begins to notice these
strange and off putting actions and words she does not question Hamlet to further
understand what is going on within his heart. Similar to his mother Hamlet finds it
difficult to openly discuss his emotions with Ophelia. As a reader you are able to
see how his relationship with his mother has affected his relationship with Ophelia.
If Hamlet had chosen to be more open and expressive with his feelings and emotions
the relationship between Hamlet and ophelia would have been much more
productive and positive. Due to Hamlets poor upbringing within the department of
female relationships his relationship with Ophelia fails. If Hamlet would have been
given a better idea of what a proper relationship with a female was his present

Strategies in Planning

Topic: Strategies in Planning
I. Introduction: Strategic planning is an organization s process of defining its
strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this
strategy. In order to determine the direction of the organization, it is necessary to
understand its current position and the possible avenues through which it can pursue
a particular course of action. Generally, strategic planning deals with at least one of
three key questions: What do we do? , For whom do we do it? , How do we excel? In
many organizations, this is viewed as a process for determining where an
organization is going over the next year or more typically 3 to 5 years (long term), ...

The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase
specificity in business operation, especially when long term and high stake activities
are involved.
One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is
easily translatable into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level
initiatives and over arching goals, but don t get articulated (translated) into day to
day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve the plan. Terminology or
word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both examples of easy ways
to fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is executable
to others. Often, plans are filled with conceptual terms which don t tie into day to
day realities for the staff expected to carry out the plan.
The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans,
policies, goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and
fail to achieve clarity. The most common of these concepts are specific, time bound
statements of intended future results and general and continuing statements of
intended future results, which most models refer to as either goals or objectives
(sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short term goals,
medium term goals, and long term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short
term goals fairly easily: they stand just slightly above one s reach.

Assumptions:
1. The forecasting approach applied by EBBD is not only the future business

economic motives of the Crusaders participating in the First Crusade be justified in
terms of the feudal hierarchy in place at that time? The first and most successful
crusade in 1095 is a controversial historical event that has fuelled numerous debates
over the centuries, being subject to a surprising variety of interpretations. The main
interpretation argues that the motives of the crusaders were materialistic and
economic, meaning that an acquisition of wealth was the main goal and instigator of
this war. The two main arguments that support this interpretation are the Marxist and
Primogeniture theories, which can be used to analyze key individual players in the

If the underlying ideas of the Marxist approach are considered, it is noticed the
theory predicts that in a capitalist economy, which Lorraine was at the time, the
contradiction between the forces and relations of production can cause economic
crises, which in turn are resolved by finding a more reliable means to produce
demanded goods. For example, private companies control the means of production,
and to maximize profit, companies reduce wages and increase production. However,
when companies compete in profit, this not only results in worker exploitation, but
an economic crisis of overproduction, since no one can afford to purchase the
products. To attain more wealth in an effort to overcome this conflict, territory
expansion was considered, which Godfrey attempted. At this time, religion was so
significant that numerous countries could be categorized into a specific belief
system. Expanding an empire through the means of religion was the safest way to
conquer land without declaring war. The causes and consequences presented in this
theory are directly related to Godfrey s circumstances and actions, which is a need to
prevent an economic crisis caused by fast production through the means of
conquering land. The second theory, the Primogeniture approach, is more trivial in
the sense that even if one is not the eldest son, they do not have

The Haitian Revolution In Langston Hughes s Troubled
Island
Forward:
Contextualizing Troubled Island The Haitian Revolution (1791 1804) is history s
only successful slave revolt, and African enslaved persons managed a monumental
feat on a largely insignificant island in the Caribbean under French control. Naturally,
numerous persons were and are inspired by the Haitian Revolution in facets of life
from aggravating social change to creating high art. The story even remains impactful
without racial influence; considering, the dominated persons were long subjugated
and unprepared for battle, yet they defeated a world power for their freedom.
Concentrating on elevated art forms, Langston Hughes (1902 1967) wrote the libretto
Troubled Island grounded in the Haitian Revolution s aftermath and Haiti coming into
its own as a nation. By following the revolution s leader Jean Jacques Dessalines,
Troubled Island stresses Haiti s need to cope with the tribulations of banding together
and organizing an emerging nation. Moreover, the libretto highlights intraracism
among the Haitians following independence, including France s cultural influence
continuing to divide Haitians. Nevertheless, Troubled Island is not a total retelling of
actual, historical events, for persons creating a show often alter or add events to fit
the operatic stage and emphasizes significant themes. Fundamentally, William Grant
Still (1895 1978) composed the music and Langston Hughes wrote the libretto for
Troubled Island. In 1931, Hughes briefly visited Haiti,

The Sociological and Political Subtleties of Woodstock
The Woodstock festival descended on Bethel, New York promising three days of
peace and music. Event organizers anticipated 15,000 people would attend but were
overwhelmed by the 300,000 people that flooded this rural area of New York state
from August 15 17, 1969. While these facts are well known and indisputable, the
festival itself has proven to be a controversial endeavor. What began as a small
business venture was soon brimming with the controversy of an entire decade. It

While Makower s description of the production of Woodstock outlines an
outwardly gradual process of preparation and decisions, newspapers of the era
provide the initial shock and public reaction of the festival. Outrage felt by local
citizens of Bethel is displayed in an article written by Alfonso A. Narvaez and

frustration felt by local residents as an influx of thousands caused massive traffic

services to such an enormous group of people. The Bethel post office was closed

The Dominance of Gothic Architecture in The High Middle
Ages
When one sees the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral in person or in pictures they are
likely to be awestruck. The twin towers of the western façade rise high into the
sky, seemingly in an attempt to scrape heaven. Spiky arches seem to grow out of the
sides and claw at the ground. Inside it is cavernous with colored light filtering in
through the large, intricate stained glass windows. All of these physical qualities
make Notre Dame a prime example of Gothic architecture. It does not stand alone in
that distinction. One is also likely to see several hundred examples of this style on
varying scales throughout Europe. Because, despite its humble origins, Gothic
architecture became the standard for religious buildings in the early 11th... Show

As town lords and bishops (the same man often held both positions) stamped out the
lawlessness that marked Europe in earlier centuries, members of the upper class felt
safe enough to embark on pilgrimages (59). Suger, with his unknown architect, had a
daring plan to build upward and outward and incorporate existing architectural
principles with new building theories. It is the combination of all these qualities that
is important in the stylistic evaluation of the interior of Saint Denis as the first work
of the Early Gothic style (Frankl 67).
Suger s most pressing need was space. To create that space his goal was to
eliminate walls in his monastery where possible. Starting in 1140, Suger opened
up a vast amount of room by using pointed arches and ribbed vaults. These
techniques in themselves were not new or unique. St. Denis didn t mark the debut
of either feature; the ribbed vault shows up in a few earlier European churches, and
the pointed arch is widespread in Islamic architecture (Columbia 1). However,
Suger was the first to combine all of those qualities with a new and daring element:
light. This was a direct result of his implementation of the ribbed vaults and pointed
arches which eliminated walls and opened up wide sweeps of interior space and
allowed for thinner walls that could frame massive stained glass windows (Gilgoff
59). Suger often spoke reverently of the

parents, the government, or even some form of divine intervention (like karma, or
god), there is an ultimately inescapable judgment that awaits everyone who
transgresses against that which is right or just. Take from the cookie jar before
dinner? No TV for a week. Break the law by stealing from a store, or worse? Spend
days, or years, incarcerated. Fail to abide by a number of seemingly arbitrary moral
codes? Spend all of eternity being tormented in a realm of fire after you die. But
despite how deeply the concept of crime and punishment is ingrained in each culture
of each era since the dawn of humankind, there remains an insatiable desire to rebel
against the standards that are upheld by society as right, whether it be for personal
worldly gain, out of academic curiosity, or righteous indignation.
As a people, humanity has long expressed rebellion of thought through the arts,
exploring the taboos of society, and asking questions about why we live as we do,
and what the implications may be, not just for the world, but for our souls. Two
such pieces of art are the classic plays Medea, by Euripides, and The Tragical History
of Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. Though these two great works couldn t
be more different in setting or thematic subject matter (and naturally so, since they re
separated by over 1,000 years), they utilize similar theatrical tropes to explore the
concept of
Kolb s Experiential Learning Theory
Theoretical Frame Work
Kolb s experiential learning theory (learning styles) Experiential learning theory
provides a holistic model of the learning process and a multilinear model of the
learning process and a multilinear model of adult development, both of which are
consistent with what we know about how people grow ,learn and develop .The theory
is called experiential learning to emphasize the central role that experience plays in
the learning process. The theory suggests that learning requires abilities that are polar
opposites, and that the learner must continually choose which set of learning abilities
he or she will use in a specific learning situation. In grasping experience some of us

Locus Of Control Attribution Style
The theoretical orientation of the assessment of the Locus of Control Attributional
Style test measures whether the outcomes of our actions are contingent on what we
do (internal control orientation) or on events outside our personal control (external
control orientation). An individual s attribution style determines which forces are
held responsible for their successes and failures. Both locus of controland attribution
styles have a significant impact on our motivation, expectations, self esteem, risk
taking behavior, and even on the actual outcome of our actions. Participants
participating in this assessment will discover what their locus of control is, what

different subscores, such as Success Orientation, Success Stability, Failure

external or internal, unstable or stable, unfavorable or favorable, and disbelief or

extroversion, sensing or intuition, thinking over feeling, and judging over perceiving.
Examples of the questions, included questions such as Heredity determines most of

Meals Tax For Public Schools
Meals Tax On November 8th, voters will be asked to vote for or against the Meals
Tax. This meals tax would be imposed on prepared foods and restaurant meals. The
Meals Tax was proposed by Fairfax County. The reason for this Meals Tax is to fund
public schools and county services. The seventy percent will go to Fairfax County
Public Schools. Also, the thirty percent will go towards capital improvements, county
services and property taxrelief. It would impose a four percent tax on top of the
existing six percent sales tax. The Meals Tax will support Fairfax County children
and help protect the quality of life for all. The Meals Tax would predictably harm
more of low middle class families. In these tough economic times, this tax will be
no help and it will hurt people. There are many questions to the Meals Tax. What is
Meals Tax? The definition of this tax is taxes incurred in addition to a state s sales
tax on the purchase of prepared foods that are eaten in restaurant or to go. The
media said that Meals Tax would be up to four percent. The actual range is various
from between 0.5 percent to as high as 5.5 percent. There are other cities that charge
a tax. Cities like Miami, Virginia Beach, Dever, Milwaukee, Boston, and Washington
D.C. Chicago has high combined tax of ten point seventy five percent. There are lot
of concerns to this issue. Why is the government imposing this tax and proposing to
the community? Why are people against this tax? People are against it
Complexity In Monsieur Meursault In The Stranger By
Albert...
The solitude of man with the innate endeavoring nature to incessantly find passion,
be fruitful, and embrace the tangibles causes us to lose focus of the scornful end. The
condemnation we find ourselves in subsequent to the impotent attempts to satiate our
inexplicable questions, is the puncture to our ideal notion . The disenchantment the
truthof our obscure being offered is masqueraded with the absurdity through which we
seamlessly wander through this life. The irrefutable desire to numb the conscious is
the bittersweet burden which we carry to suppress the abyss of disparity which we
are floating amidst. Monsieur Meursault in Albert Camus The Stranger is the blaring
anomaly. Fortifying himself through his indifferent nature and blunt honesty,
Meursault is ostracized. Deemed with a psychosis he finds comfort in the unruly
inescapable solace of life, death, which morphs into his gradual declination. The sun
tracing his unusual circumstances, catalyzing his imminent reactions provides itself
as the only paradigm to symbolize Meursault. The intricacies which unfold are
reiterated by the Sun which juxtapose the indigenous contingency to find meaning.
Meursault s paradoxical compel and abhorrence to the sun highlights the idea that the
what we choose to learn may not be abiding in beauty. Our choice in this duality sets
forth the invitation to introspection offering its only absolute form through our own
willingness. Meursault understanding himself is bonded to the sun
Impact Of Gandhi On Women s Rights Movement
INTRODUCTION
We record our homage and deep admiration for the Womanhood of India who in the
hour of peril for the motherland forsook the shelter of their homes and with unfailing
courage and endurance stood shoulder to shoulder with their menfolk, in the frontline
of India s national army to share with them the sacrifices and triumphs of the struggle
.
From a Resolution passed on January 26, 1931.
When the history of India s fight for Independence comes to be written, the sacrifice
made by the women of India will occupy the foremost place Mahatma

The period from 1917 to 1919 was the most dynamic phase of Sarojini s career.
During this time, she campaigned for the Montagu Chelmsford Reforms, the
Khilafat issue, the draconian Rowlett Act and the Satyagraha. When Gandhi
launched the Civil Disobedience Movement ,she proved a faithful lieutenant. With
great courage she quelled the rioters, sold proscribed literature, addressed frenzied
meetings on the carnage at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. In 1930 when Mahatma
Gandhi chose her to lead the Salt Satyagraha the stories of her courage became
legion. After Gandhi s arrest she had prepared 2,000 volunteers under the
scorching sun to raid the Dahrsana Salt Works, while the police faced them half a
mile up the road with rifle, lathis (canes) are steel tipped clubs. The volunteers
wildly cheered when she shook off the arm of the British police officer who came to
arrest her and marched proudly to the barbed wire stockade where she was interned
before being imprisoned.
Freedom struggle was in full force and she came under the influence of
Gopalakrishna Gokhale and Gandhi. Gokhale advised her to spare all her energy and
talents for nation s cause. She gave up writing poetry and fully devoted herself to
emancipation of women, education, Hindu Muslim unity etc. She became a follower

Erich Remarque s Magnum Of All Quiet On The Western
Front
The First World War, or the ill named War to End all Wars, was one that brought hell
to Earth and mankind. For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make
killing efficient. In static trenches, young men from around the world were killed by
artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and disease. All nations in the conflict
experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their lives, limbs, or the
ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All Quiet
on the Western Frontbecomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey
to the ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the
Western Front, Paul Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that... Show

As the Germans repel the French, Paul and his company push back, and for a
moment, turn from men to animals. While running and killing Paul illustrates, We
have lost all feeling for one another. We can hardly control ourselves when our
glance lights on the form of some other men. We are insensible, dead men, who
through some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run and to kill
(Remarque 55). This moment demonstrates the damage that has occurred. Paul
already considered himself a dead man, a men that has lost all humanity. It is this
moment that is the first step in the hero s slow demise, in which he loses all joy
and hope. It is impossible for, in the conditions described, to be able to return
home; death becomes the only elixir. Hence, it only takes two more events in his
short life for Paul Baumer to realise this elixir. After the initial French Offensive,
Paul is given time to recover, getting leave and additional training. But, when he
returns back to the front, he reaches the climax of the journey, as he kills a man in
close quarters. While on a night expedition into No Man s Land, Baumer is
surprised by a Frenchman, but is able to swiftly recover and, to his understanding,
kill him. But in the morning, Paul is confronted with the truth: Then, he opens his
eyes... The body is perfectly still without a sound, the gurgle has ceased but his eyes

The Abolition Of Slavery In America
Slavery
Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North
American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of such
lucrative crops as tobacco. Slaves were mostly of African decent. About 12 million
slaves had been shipped from Africa, and 10 million had arrived in America. Slavery
was a problem that lasted 245 years in North America. There was nothing uplifting
or positive about slavery, and it was basically white people making black people, their
slaves.
Slavery was eventually put to an end by leaders such as; Fredrick Douglass,
Theodore Parker, Harriet Tubman, and Martin Luther King Jr. These leaders brought
attention to the horrid act of slavery and what it does to people. Slavery is ... Show

Douglass was born a slave and became a noted reformer, author and speaker. He
dedicated his life to the abolition of slavery and the fight for Black rights. He was
convinced that Abolition should be achieved by moral enticement alone, without
political action.
Next, Theodore Parker (1818 1895) attacked the Fugitive Slave Law from his
Boston stand, urging his audience to assist runaways in any way they could. He
wanted to stress the importance of helping in any way possible. He hid scores of
fugitives from the federal agents delegated to summon up them, and he engineered
their escape to Canada.
Harriet Tubman man (1822 1913) was an African American woman whose daring
rescues helped hundreds of slaves to freedom. She became the most famous leader of
the Underground Railroad, which helped slaves escaping to the free states or to
Canada.
She was called the Black Moses, who led over 300 slaves to freedom on the
Underground Railroad and was never caught, nor any of the fugitives in her charge.
Even just the fact that she was a women makes some people look up to her even
more and appreciate her for doing what she could possible for
Dantes Inferno Research Paper
Dante Alighieri born on June 1, 1265 in Florence, Italy. Dante is a Italian poet and
philosopher. He was born in a family that was a part of the political scene in
Florence. His mother died a few years after he was born. He went to study at the
University of Bologna which was one of the most famous universities in the
medieval world. While he was there, one of the most famous scholars at that advised
and encouraged Dante. His name was Brunetto Latini. He appears in Inferno. Only at
twelve years old, Dante was to marry a girl named Gemma Donati. They both married
but what the problem was that Dante loved another woman. Her name was Beatrice
Portinari. Dante s father was very disappointed in his son because he chose this girl

He has been compared to the most famous poet ever, Shakespeare. He has been
said to be the only writer to be in the same class as him. Some people believe that
Dante s Divine Comedy is better than some of Shakespeare s work. Dante s Divine
Comedy is still one of the best works of literature after 650 years. The work of art is
a major part of The Western Canon. The Western Canon is a collection of the greatest
books in history.
Dante died in 1321 while traveling to Venice. What most people think was that he
caught a disease like malaria because this was spreading throughout the medieval
ages. He was buried in the Church of San Pier in Ravenna, Italy. Soon after he was
buried, Florence argued that the poet s body should return to the city that he was
born in. Today, Dante s body is in Ravenna even though Florence stills argues that he
should be in the city that he was

  • 2. Martin Luther King Research Paper Adriana Castillo Professor Popowski United States History II 1302 August 5th, 2015 A Research Paper on Martin Luther King Jr. Michael King Jr. Was born to parents Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King s family has quite an extensive religious background, which starts with his grandfather, A.D Williams. In 1893, A.D he revives the small but strong congregation of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He later married Jennie Celeste Parks and they had a single child together, named Alberta. Alberta would end up getting married to Michael King Sr., a man product of a sharecropping family in a very poor community. This lead to the couple living with Alberta s parents for some time until A.D ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King was shot while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968, by James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray was arrested in London, England on June 8, 1968, and extradited to Memphis, Tennessee to stand trial for the assassination of Dr. King. On March 9, 1969, before coming to trial, he entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to ninety nine years in the Tennessee State Penitentiary. Dr. King had been in Memphis to help lead sanitation workers in a protest against low wages and intolerable conditions. His funeral services were held April 9, 1968, in Atlanta at Ebenezer Church and on the campus of Morehouse College, with the President of the United States proclaiming a day of mourning and flags being flown at half staff. The area where Dr. King was entombed is located on Freedom Plaza and surrounded by the Freedom Hall Complex of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site, a 23 acre area was listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 5, 1977, and was made a National Historic Site on October 10, 1980 by the U.S. Department of the Interior (LSU
  • 3. Life Changing Experience Essay Life Changing Experience About one year ago I had a life changing experience, a trip to a little town called Kerry on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. It was the most beautiful place that I have ever seen. Being in the presence of such beauty helped me see life from a different perspective. I was just going to be happy, appreciate what I have, be open minded, not take anything for granted, and love everyone and everything. When I came back from Ireland I was truly happy, nothing could make me upset. But after awhile my constant elation came to a gradual end, but I was soon to find that even though my elation ended I was going to be a happy, loving, and open minded person forever. And there was everyday influences like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone doesn t die for something they don t appreciate. When I think about those movies I am really happy, because I am lucky, free, and free to seize any opportunity that comes my way. Art also reminds me of my happiness, a single piece of art work can capture a moment of emotion or feeling. Artists like Claude Monet really capture emotion well, in the painting, The Stroll: Camille Monet , Monet painted Camille standing in the middle of a field, it sounds simple. But Monet did such a good job that there seems to be more, there is emotion. That is what makes art special, emotion, and that I can have my own thoughts about what the artist is trying to say through their painting. In the Edward Hopper painting, Route 6 there is a real warm feeling coming from it. That warm feeling is one of the best emotions that I have experienced, the only other time I get that feeling is when nature is at it s best (sunsets, sunrises, grassy fields, ect.). That brings me to the artist Liz Sexton, her paintings of nature are some of the most beautiful, natural, and unique pieces of art that I have ever seen. I think that I am on of the luckiest people in the world to be able to appreciate this artistic beauty, that in its self makes me a happy person. The most important influence in my
  • 4. When I Have Managed To Make My Wife Summary The author begins the story with a line that sets the entire story. The first line of the story is, The truth of the matter is: I have managed to make my wife very, very small. The narrator goes on to explain it was not intentional and the miniaturization was an accident. The author then has the narrator give background information and explain the story of what happens to his wife and himself. The story ends with the extreme measures the miniature wife has taken upon herself to torture the narrator. The miniature wife sets trip wires throughout the home and sticks tiny spears in the carpet. The first scenes of the story are about the wife and the miniaturization. The next scenes following explain how upset the wife is with her current state. She does things to the narrator that mess with his appearance by dulling his razors and removing the buttons on his clothes. The narrator keeps issues to himself because he doesn t want to lose his job or there be a police investigation. The narrator then makes a dollhouse for his wife and does until the end of the story where she invites her husband to have dinner at home, and when he comes home she is naked... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought this story was very ambitious. It reminded me of an old movie called Honey I Shrunk The Kids. The process of making a human the size of a coffee mug is rather far off, I enjoyed the humor the author added. The things that the wife would do to the husband I felt sorry for him, but at the same time they were such little things a miniature person would do if they were home all day and bored. I think the wife did those things to the narrator because she blames him for what has happened to her. The author on top of the ambitious story then has the wife cheat on her husband. This twist I was surprised by; I thought there was going to be a happy ending between the two was they would reconcile and perhaps the husband would shrink himself. I felt the author made the story grander by adding the twist at the

Most to all of his listeners would agree, he is definitely very influential. The first part of his speech states that nothing in life can be insured, it s all up to the people and what they decide to do. His musical Hamilton is proof that history is remembered and it is up to the people to not repeat anything bad, learning from the experience of our ancestors. Clearly, we all have to get back up on our feet even when hate and fear are growing and never give up. The last part of his speech tells you that if you love someone or something, do not let others influence that. People can love who/what they want and it can never be killed or swept aside . Another speech, this one about his Grammy, says, We write music, we write songs to tell a story, This clearly shows and supports the importance of music like his, inspiring others and telling stories like books, informing people through music that can toy with your emotions just as well if not better than books can. A last speech, this one from his Pulitzer Prize, says, To be the 9th musical to ever win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in its 100 year history is truly humbling for all of us. For Hamilton to now be in the same company as Of Thee I Sing, South Pacific,......... Rent, and most recently Next to Normal is outside of our own comprehension. Look at where we are. Look at where we started. Quoting lyrics from the musical that won the award, Miranda shows his
  • 6. White Collar Crime Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and businessmen go hand in hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in their work. They use their heads to get what they want instead of using a little muscle. These criminals are just as dangerous as the rapists and murderers. In these times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of white collar crimes. President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in the Whitewater and Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been formally charged with any wrongdoing, there is a committee currently investigating their dealings and charges are not out of the question for either of them. In Michael Isikoff s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These people have more opportunities to commit a white collar crime than a person with little authority. Peter Michelmore, a journalist for Readers Digest describes this situation well in his article, On the Trail of a Scam He describes a savings and loan scam and the man behind it all. Meyer learned that New Era was run by John G. Bennet, Jr., a 57 year old evangelical Christian. (112) New Era was a getting money from a private university, in which he promised huge returns on their investment. New Era did show them huge profits, but only to gain their trust and invest more money. The private university was gaining trust in New Era and investing more money. Finally, when They had invested a large sum of money, New Era collapsed and John Bennet walked away with the university s money. Mr. Bennet is a prime example of our findings. He is a man over the age of eighteen and he is in a position of power. People have entrusted him with their money. To commit his crime, he needed to be in a position where he was trusted, or in authority. After he won their trust, he took their money. White collar crimes are growing at an alarming rate and must be curbed. There are many things that the nation can do to slow the growth of these crimes. The white collar crime that affects the most people is the scam. For that reason, scam prevention will be emphasized more than embezzlement. I feel that the most effective weapon against these crimes is to
  • 7. Classical And Classical Realism Randall Schweller defines realism as a theory essentially about power and security. States relentlessly seek power and security because they exist in a self help system. . Although this is one of many definitions of realism as a whole discipline; there are many different varieties of realism, all of which have their own distinct views on realism, also with similarities. Firstly, there is classical realism which is split into traditional classical realism and twentieth century classical realism, although ever so slightly different they both claim human nature can explain how states behave and react. Classical realism suggests human nature is to always seek more power. The key thinker for classical realism is Hans Morgenthau. Secondly, neorealism or structural realism. This also has the key assumption like classical realism that states want power, but this want for power isn t to do with human nature. Structural realism has three main elements: organizing principles, differentiation of units and distribution capabilities, pioneered by Kenneth Waltz. These three elements can explain how states behave in such a way, this makes this variation of realism unique. Also, John Mearsheimerextends structural realism to offensive realism, which states a different view on the power dynamic. Furthermore, Neo classical realism which is a combination of classical and structural. This theory mainly by Fareed Zakaria explains how here are many different factors which can explain how states
  • 8. Dichotomy Of Evil And Evil In Voltaire s Candide Dualism exists in human nature. Voltaire, an Enlightenment writer explores the tendency of humans to seek out good, but also the acts of evil that continue to happen. Voltaire catalogs a diverse cast of flawed characters in his signature satire Candide. Many of these characters contrast other characters in different aspects. These character foils highlight the weaknesses and limited strengths of its counterpart. These flaws are inevitably a human characteristic that corrupt humanity but also essential in development. By intertwining vice and virtuewithin characters, Voltaireintones that humans are all intrinsically flawed, but the distinction between the antagonistic dichotomy of evil and good is ambiguous. First, our protagonist Candide and his valet Cacambo serve as appropriate examples: a naive optimist and a worldly pragmatist. When Candide finds the monkey lovers appalling and unusual, Cacambo does not see anything odd about their passion (Voltaire 49). Exposed by the cruelties of the real world, Cacambo s sharp wits allow him to take control of a situation and suffer less adversities than other characters. Inexperienced and innocent, Candide can only think one dimensionally; instead of thinking and acting for himself, Candide surrounds himself with people who do the decision making for him. Only because of the wits and decisions of Cacambo, Old Woman, and Martin is he able to survive until the end of the novel. Voltaire contrasts Cacambo s wisdom with Candide s
  • 9. Little Lights Research Paper Little lights shine their way down the rugged winding path. Foot steps trudge in front and behind staying close together. Dodging thorns and burs left and right. Ouch! Every time. Quiet laughs fill the silence as we continue on. Our trek takes us up a slippery slope and through a cow pasture and under a barbed wirefence and down a long tractor path all with the weight of our bags and rifles. Finally, we make it to where we head separate ways. As goodbyes and good lucks are exchanged, nerves set in. I brush them off as I head to my sixteen feet high tower hidden among the trees. I remember the first time I had ever held a firearm. I was eleven years old when I was dragged to a hunters education class by my father. He made us sit in the front row which I opposed all the way. Since my father is the way he is, I was volunteered by him to go up during one of the activities. Mentally, I was screaming at my father while he sat in his chair with a smug face. I took a deep breath and just went with it. My duty of the activity was to stand in front of hundreds of eyes and show the different ways to hold a firearm safety while basically chanting the number one of firearm safety Treat every gun like it is loaded. I remember holding a grudge against my dad for making do that, but now that I think about it, I know I will never forget how to hold a gun safely. I remember the first time I shot a firearm and how I missed every shot. My dad repeated over and over again, just keep trying, you ll get it soon. I remember it after half a box of twenty two ammo before I finally hit the target. My dad was right. I just had to keep
  • 10. Age Of Lead By Margaret Atwood Essay It is logical to assume that two separate stories are likely to convey entirely unrelated messages to the audience. Weight and The Age of Lead by Margaret Atwood might serve as a good illustration of this assumption, the former exploring such themes as gender roles, domestic violence and guilt associated with betrayal, while the latter dealing with far larger subject like ecological catastrophe as a consequence of destroying and irresponsible human activity. Though curiously enough, the author skillfully conveys these messages through a number of similar tools, for example, plot structure, protagonists characteristics and narrativetechniques. So, when going through one of the above stories the reader cannot help recalling the other one. Indeed, a closer look at Margaret Atwoods short stories The Age of Lead and Weight reveals a surprising number of similarities between them. First and foremost, each of the stories portrays a female protagonist who is not able to build serious relationship with men. Both Jane in The Age of Lead and the narrator in Weight are independent, self sufficient women in their forties, owning a business, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the message each of them carries is different, reading them creates a strange sense of dГ©jГ vu. In fact, both short stories depict women, their emotional state and social status, as well as portray one significant event that influences greatly their life. A reader paying scrupulous attention to detail might even come across some identical phrases used by the author in her both works, like the toaster oven, so convenient for solo dinners (Atwood, Weight 212) and a toaster oven, so perfect for solo dining (Atwood, The Age of Lead 12). Nevertheless, this common feature just emphasizes Atwood s talent and her unique ability to make stories different and similar at the same
  • 11. Postcolonial Lens Postcolonial critiques of literary works are often accomplished by reading and interpreting the work with a specific theme in mind or a lens . By allowing oneself to use a lens when reading specific works, it allows the reader to interpret the effects of the themes and the changes throughout the writings. The goal of the critical lens is to seek to understand the behavior of characters or the society ( Post Colonialism, 2016). A few of the most popular themes used to view literary works are identity, oppression and power; applying this lens can give the reader a different perspective and experience while reading the writings. The theme of power can be observed, in addition to Prospero, by the actions of Antonio, Sebastian and Caliban. Moreover, this theme of power is evident from the opening scene all the way through to the end of Act 2. It is hard to see a more prominent theme in the play of the Tempest.   • 12. School Voucher Essay I propose a school voucher program that would be widespread throughout the state of Connecticut with special consideration to the Hartford school district. Each student in the state will receive a voucher equivalent to 65 percent of the per pupil cost of the public school in their district. The remaining 35 percent of spending would remain with the schoolto pay for fixed costs (with a few exceptions). School who take in out of district would receive the money that follows the child. For example, a Ellington student would receive a voucher of about $4,982 (65 percent of per pupil spending) and that child could spend that money on any participating public or non religious private schoolin the state. Schools have the choice to participate in the program. However, if public schools choose not to participate then state funding will be reduced and reallocated to participating schools. However, a few school districts are exceptions. I recommend abolished traditional public schools in Hartford, East Hartford, Bloomfield, and Manchester. The current performance of students is unacceptable in those district that have high minority and poverty levels. You should close the public schools and instead allow private, magnet, and charter schools take control over the district. You should carefully select which schools are allowed in the district to ensure diversity in educational opportunities. Some schools should target students in specific categories like math, science, and the arts;

These can be seen throughout the entire galaxy, but it is hard for us to see because of the amount of dust that covers it blocks our view. Johannes Kepler was the last person to observe the last Supernovain our Milky Way galaxy. He discovered that phenomenon in the year 1604. A supernova is created when there is a change in a core or center of a star. There are only two ways that a change can happen in a star. The first way it can change happens in binary star systems. Those are two stars that orbit at the same point. A carbon oxygen white dwarf takes away matter from another star. Subsequently the white dwarf will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the star actually starts to run out of nuclear fuel some of the mass flows into the star s core. When the core becomes too heavy it cannot take its own gravitational force. That has no chance of happening because the sun does not have enough mass to become a supernova. Supernovas are very interesting things that happen in our universe. Even though they can only burn for a short period of time, it has the potential to tell scientists a lot about what is going on. There is a specific form of supernovas that has shown scientists that we all live in a universe that keeps expanding. Which means the universe is growing at an increasing rate. Many scientists however believe that supernovas have a huge role in distributing elements throughout the entire universe. As the star begins to explode it shoots debris and elements all over space. The elements that we find here on Earth are created in the core of the star. As these elements move onto different parts of the universe it helps form new planets and

A dangerous atmospheric deviation by the increase in Earth s normal surface temperature is experienced by the impact of greenhouse gasses. This effect is named as Global Warming. There are four main components which help atmosphere to warm and they are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and water vapor. Some examples explaining this effects are carbon dioxideoutflows from blazing fossil powers or from deforestation, which trap warm. Various elements have been adding to this ascent in the normal worldwide temperature either specifically or by implication, right from the time the planet appeared. It alludes to the procedure wherein the radiations originating from the Sun are caught by the greenhouse gasses inside of the air of the Earth, which thus causes the temperature close to the Earth s surface to rise. It is believed that the greenhouse effect has increased the Earth s temperature by some place around 24 percent, with carbon dioxide adding to around 12 percent of the greenhouse effect, water vapor contributing around 36 percent, methane 5 to 10 percent, and Ozone making around 3 to 7 percent of the same. People had begun adding to a worldwide temperature alteration around 8000 years prior with the begin of agribusiness, wherein deforestation to clear land for cultivating brought about a critical ascent in the measure of carbon dioxide in the air. Researchers claim that awful practices in industries results in the arrival of different greenhouse gasses which

It can manipulate the reader s views of characters and situations in the story. The point of view that A Rose for Emily was written in was third person. It served as a collective town voice and let the reader in on the thoughts and opinions the townspeople had on Miss Emily. This type of narration can be used to detach a reader from the story or characters, but in Faulkner s case he wrote it in a way that the narratoris slowly pushing us to feel empathy for Miss Emily. It s a means of communication and a way of expressing our needs, wants, feelings and emotions. The purpose of this essay is to firstly highlight the important role language plays in every stage of a child s life, while also examining the learning processes and cues that are used by children to understand written, oral and visual language. Secondly, discuss what it means for a child to be multiliterate in today s society as technology continues to increase. And lastly how language arises from cultural and social contexts, and is understood by people in terms of their own social and cultural backgrounds (Green, 2006). Gestural: Language is the primary form of communication for the human race and can be both seen and heard and can incorporate a range of modes including music, movement, dance, story telling, visual arts, media and drama, as well as talking, listening, viewing, reading and writing (EYLF, 2009). While oral and written languages are the most common amongst people, meaning can also be conveyed through visual forms such as gestures, posture, facial expression, eye contact and movement. When people are not able to communicate properly and pick up on these important signals they are significantly disadvantaged in many ways (Fellowes, Oakley, Ivonne, 2014). But, as long as your intent is pure and you learn how to make it safe for others, you can talk to almost anyone about almost anything. The key is to make the other person feel safe. To do this, there are two things the person needs to know. First, they need to know that you care about their best interests and goals. This is called mutual purpose. Second, they need to know that you care about them. This is called mutual respect. When people believe both of these things, they relax and can absorb what you re saying; they feel safe. The instant they don t believe them (and it can happen instantaneously even with those we have long and loving relationships with), safety breaks down and silence or violence follows. Generally, strategic planning deals with at least one of three key questions: What do we do? , For whom do we do it? , How do we excel? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of strategic planning mechanisms like formal planning is to increase specificity in business operation, especially when long term and high stake activities are involved. One of the core goals when drafting a strategic plan is to develop it in a way that is easily translatable into action plans. Most strategic plans address high level initiatives and over arching goals, but don t get articulated (translated) into day to day projects and tasks that will be required to achieve the plan. Terminology or word choice, as well as the level a plan is written, are both examples of easy ways to fail at translating your strategic plan in a way that makes sense and is executable to others. Often, plans are filled with conceptual terms which don t tie into day to day realities for the staff expected to carry out the plan. The following terms have been used in strategic planning: desired end states, plans, policies, goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and actions. Definitions vary, overlap and fail to achieve clarity. The most common of these concepts are specific, time bound statements of intended future results and general and continuing statements of intended future results, which most models refer to as either goals or objectives (sometimes interchangeably). One approach recommends having short term goals, medium term goals, and long term goals. In this model, one can expect to attain short term goals fairly easily: they stand just slightly above one s reach.

For example, private companies control the means of production, and to maximize profit, companies reduce wages and increase production. However, when companies compete in profit, this not only results in worker exploitation, but an economic crisis of overproduction, since no one can afford to purchase the products. To attain more wealth in an effort to overcome this conflict, territory expansion was considered, which Godfrey attempted. The Haitian Revolution In Langston Hughes s Troubled Island Forward: Contextualizing Troubled Island The Haitian Revolution (1791 1804) is history s only successful slave revolt, and African enslaved persons managed a monumental feat on a largely insignificant island in the Caribbean under French control. Naturally, numerous persons were and are inspired by the Haitian Revolution in facets of life from aggravating social change to creating high art. The story even remains impactful without racial influence; considering, the dominated persons were long subjugated and unprepared for battle, yet they defeated a world power for their freedom. Concentrating on elevated art forms, Langston Hughes (1902 1967) wrote the libretto Troubled Island grounded in the Haitian Revolution s aftermath and Haiti coming into its own as a nation. By following the revolution s leader Jean Jacques Dessalines, Troubled Island stresses Haiti s need to cope with the tribulations of banding together and organizing an emerging nation. Moreover, the libretto highlights intraracism among the Haitians following independence, including France s cultural influence continuing to divide Haitians. Nevertheless, Troubled Island is not a total retelling of actual, historical events, for persons creating a show often alter or add events to fit the operatic stage and emphasizes significant themes. Fundamentally, William Grant Still (1895 1978) composed the music and Langston Hughes wrote the libretto for Troubled Island. In 1931, Hughes briefly visited Haiti,

The Sociological and Political Subtleties of Woodstock Essay The Sociological and Political Subtleties of Woodstock The Woodstock festival descended on Bethel, New York promising three days of peace and music. Event organizers anticipated 15,000 people would attend but were overwhelmed by the 300,000 people that flooded this rural area of New York state from August 15 17, 1969. While these facts are well known and indisputable, the festival itself has proven to be a controversial endeavor. His other works include studies of the media and an American history sourcebook.[4] While Makower s description of the production of Woodstock outlines an outwardly gradual process of preparation and decisions, newspapers of the era provide the initial shock and public reaction of the festival. Outrage felt by local citizens of Bethel is displayed in an article written by Alfonso A. Narvaez and printed in The New York Times on August 20, 1969. The article conveys the frustration felt by local residents as an influx of thousands caused massive traffic jams, widespread property damage, and a shortage of basic necessities and sanitary facilities. Many local businesses were ill prepared to provide needed goods and services to such an enormous group of people. The Bethel post office was closed while dairy farmers were forced to dump fresh milk because neither mail trucks nor milk trucks

The twin towers of the western façade rise high into the sky, seemingly in an attempt to scrape heaven. Spiky arches seem to grow out of the sides and claw at the ground. Inside it is cavernous with colored light filtering in through the large, intricate stained glass windows. All of these physical qualities make Notre Dame a prime example of Gothic architecture. It does not stand alone in that distinction. One is also likely to see several hundred examples of this style on varying scales throughout Europe. As town lords and bishops (the same man often held both positions) stamped out the lawlessness that marked Europe in earlier centuries, members of the upper class felt safe enough to embark on pilgrimages (59). Suger, with his unknown architect, had a daring plan to build upward and outward and incorporate existing architectural principles with new building theories. It is the combination of all these qualities that is important in the stylistic evaluation of the interior of Saint Denis as the first work of the Early Gothic style (Frankl 67). Suger s most pressing need was space. To create that space his goal was to eliminate walls in his monastery where possible. Starting in 1140, Suger opened up a vast amount of room by using pointed arches and ribbed vaults. These techniques in themselves were not new or unique. St. Denis didn t mark the debut of either feature; the ribbed vault shows up in a few earlier European churches, and the pointed arch is widespread in Islamic architecture (Columbia 1). However, Suger was the first to combine all of those qualities with a new and daring element: light. This was a direct result of his implementation of the ribbed vaults and pointed arches which eliminated walls and opened up wide sweeps of interior space and allowed for thinner walls that could frame massive stained glass windows (Gilgoff 59). Suger often spoke reverently of the

  • 42. Euripides And The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus, By... From childhood, all individuals are taught that, whether it be at the hands of one s parents, the government, or even some form of divine intervention (like karma, or god), there is an ultimately inescapable judgment that awaits everyone who transgresses against that which is right or just. Take from the cookie jar before dinner? No TV for a week. Break the law by stealing from a store, or worse? Spend days, or years, incarcerated. Fail to abide by a number of seemingly arbitrary moral codes? Spend all of eternity being tormented in a realm of fire after you die. But despite how deeply the concept of crime and punishment is ingrained in each culture of each era since the dawn of humankind, there remains an insatiable desire to rebel against the standards that are upheld by society as right, whether it be for personal worldly gain, out of academic curiosity, or righteous indignation. As a people, humanity has long expressed rebellion of thought through the arts, exploring the taboos of society, and asking questions about why we live as we do, and what the implications may be, not just for the world, but for our souls. Two such pieces of art are the classic plays Medea, by Euripides, and The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe. Though these two great works couldn t be more different in setting or thematic subject matter (and naturally so, since they re separated by over 1,000 years), they utilize similar theatrical tropes to explore the concept of

The solitude of man with the innate endeavoring nature to incessantly find passion, be fruitful, and embrace the tangibles causes us to lose focus of the scornful end. The condemnation we find ourselves in subsequent to the impotent attempts to satiate our inexplicable questions, is the puncture to our ideal notion . The disenchantment the truthof our obscure being offered is masqueraded with the absurdity through which we seamlessly wander through this life. The irrefutable desire to numb the conscious is the bittersweet burden which we carry to suppress the abyss of disparity which we are floating amidst. Monsieur Meursault in Albert Camus The Stranger is the blaring anomaly. Fortifying himself through his indifferent nature and blunt honesty, Meursault is ostracized. Deemed with a psychosis he finds comfort in the unruly inescapable solace of life, death, which morphs into his gradual declination. The sun tracing his unusual circumstances, catalyzing his imminent reactions provides itself as the only paradigm to symbolize Meursault. The intricacies which unfold are reiterated by the Sun which juxtapose the indigenous contingency to find meaning. Meursault s paradoxical compel and abhorrence to the sun highlights the idea that the what we choose to learn may not be abiding in beauty. Our choice in this duality sets forth the invitation to introspection offering its only absolute form through our own willingness. Meursault understanding himself is bonded to the sun
