Failure In The Odysseus
The Role Failure has in Success
It is okay to be a glowstick, sometimes we need to break before we shine ( 12 quotes That will
Immediately Boost your confidence). Sometimes, to grow, people have to shrink first. So then they
have a new start, to grow bigger then they ever were. In order to have success, sometimes failure
comes first, this happens in today s life, and the Odyssey.
Odysseus was a brave and strong man that got through unimaginable dangers, but that doesn t mean
he didn t have any failure that led to his success. Odysseus was a leader to all of his men, but his
orders are not always followed. In the story, The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus was sent
away, and he took many men with him along in his journey. They traveled long distances for a long
time, soon they came across Helios s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odysseus was weary about it, but he was outnumbered, so, he agreed to stop at the island with only
one rule they had to obey. They were not allowed to kill or touch the cattle on the island. The stay at
the island was longer than Odysseus had planned, there were strong winds sent by Zeus that didn t let
them go bad out to sea, and forced them to stay in the island for a long time. One night Odysseus fell
asleep. His men were starving, overcome by their hunger, they killed the cattle to eat. Once Odysseus
found out, he cried out to the gods, O Father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, you made me sleep away
this day of mischief! O cruel drowsing in the evil hour! Here they sat and a great work they contrived
(Homer 842). Odysseus failed at keeping his men from eating the cattle. The failure broke him down,
but he still kept on going with his job, that later soon will led to his success. Odysseus succeeded
many times along his journey, but there is always room to grow stronger. Odysseus failed once again
at Helios s Island. Once the winds, that were sent by Zeus, came to a stop, the men were able to carry
on with the journey. But soon later, with a

The Concept of Change ... and Changing Perspectives
Changing perspectives...Change is a process, a transition or an alteration that affects different aspects
of our life. As a result the forces of change can seriously affect the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of
individuals. The affects of change can have a positive or negative outcome. These affects can be
viewed in all three of the texts that we have studied for the Area of Study. Change is a part of life and
whether or not we like that aftermath of the particular aspect of the change it will happen, you can put
it off and put it off but sooner or later it will happen. Change is also unavoidable. To examine change
and changing perspectives the following texts will be assessed the core text in the area of study

In John s Case his changing perspective of himself was a negative one.
Change. Such an uncomplicated word, yet so hard to define. The word itself possibly prevents it from
being defined because every person sees change as a different thing, so therefore there are possibly
around 6 billion definitions of change in the world. The song At Seventeen by song writer Janis Ian
relates to changing perspectives in her life as a seventeen year old girl. At the start of the song in verse
one she describes a girl at seventeen who thinks she is ugly and doesn t fit in with the popular group.
She wants to have everything that the popular girls have. She soon relishes that she will never have
this social status and she starts to dream up boys that call her up and ask her to dance. The end of
verse two and the beginning of the third verse Janis Ian is reflecting back on those terrible years when
she was seventeen. She was once an ugly outcast who had no social standing and now all the small
town folk look at her and she now exceeds their expectations they have no love left, they are lonely,
and now Janis has everything, she has won the game of life and love. The lyrics of At Seventeen by
Janis Ian are emotional and reflective as opposed to telling a story, Janis is intensely outpouring her
inner most personal thoughts and feelings. Both Josie and Janis Ian s perspective of themselves
change as they grow older or more mature. In Looking for Alibrandi Josie

Characteristics Of A Plasma Membrane
BIO181 Hybrid W4 Membranes/Metabolism Name: Meghan Woodford
*** In all cases, answer thoroughly, and support with clear examples. (allot 4+ hrs/W)
1. Fully describe the characteristics of a plasma membrane. Be specific using your own words. (2 3
paragraphs include structure, general function, proteins.)
Cell membranes are basically the barrier of a cell between its interior and its exterior environment. It
protects the cell as well as governs what can and cannot pass through and enter into the cell. The
phospholipid bilayer is a layer of lipids (or more specifically, phospholipids) packed close together
that creates a barrier for the cell membrane. The membrane is also made up of proteins and
cholesterol. Cholesterol is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Active transport on the other hand is the movement from low to high concentration. This kind of
transportation requires energy. An example of this would be moving those sodium chloride molecules
from the diluted left side to the concentrated right side. Now looking at osmosis, this is a process that
takes place after reaching equilibrium. The sodium chloride is still moving between both sides, but
instead of the right side moving more quickly to the left side (in diffusion) both sides are moving
between the membrane at the same rate.
3. Use crenation, red blood cell shrinking, plasmolysis, and turgid plant cells to differentiate between
hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. (2 3 paragraphs)
Starting with hypertonic, it s a term used to describe when the exterior environment of a cell is more
highly concentrated than its interior environment. Say you placed an animal cell, such as a red blood
cell, in a solution high in sodium chloride. The water inside the red blood cell would rush out, causing
the cell to shrivel up. This is called crenetion. It s a result of osmosis where red blood cells undergo
shrinkage. Something similar happens in plant cells, however, with plant cells the membrane gets
teared off the cell wall. This is called plasmolysis. This happens because the cytoplasm is mostly made
up of water, so as that shrinks from all the

Guerrilla Warfare Leaders of the 20th Century Essay
Historical interpretations relating to small wars in the post Napoleonic period in relation to insurgent
guerrilla warfare in urban and agrarian societies across the globe share universal themes. These
commonalities will be explored relating why combatants in guerrilla warfare fight. Moreover, what
objectives guerrilla leaders wanted to achieve with their theories of social revolution. The works
discussed are Mao Tse tung, On Guerrilla Warfare, Ernesto Che Guevara, Guerilla Warfare, and Carlos
Marighella, Minimanual of The Urban Guerrilla. All three of these historical leaders were well

Mao Tse tung the Ruler of Red China and transformer of culture founded the People s Republic of

Why Fight: Samuel B. Griffith II, translator of On Guerilla Warfare, explained by Recognizing the
fundamental disparity between agrarian and urban societies, Mao advocated unorthodox strategies that
converted deficits into advantages: using intelligence provided by sympathetic peasant population;
substituting deception, mobility, and surprise for superior firepower; using retreat as an offensive

Ageing: Reproductive functions decrease the older a woman gets, this is due to fewer eggs being left

increased chance of chromosome abnormalities like down syndrome.
Causes of Male Infertility (4)
Varicocele (Veins around testicles in the scrotum): A swelling of the veins that drain the testicles. The
most common reversible cause of infertility in men. The exact reason for Varicocele is unknown, one

A Brief Report On Tianjin Plastics Essay
Tianjin Plastics were undertaken as project finance ventures. Project financing is a way in which large
standalone investments may be financed from their own assets and cash flows, without recourse from
the assets of the equity holders themselves. Project financing is the primary method was taking for the
massive infrastructure investment throughout many places such as China, Malaysia, Indonesia, the
Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and other emerging economies. However, despite that the
complexity of project finance (because they were detailed agreements that require thousands of pages
of documentation), was extremely uncomfortable with the problems posed by the Tianjin proposal.
Political:
In the past three decades, project finance has contained some of the largest individual investments,
including: British Petroleum s financing of its interests in the North Sea (totaling $972 million in
1972); the Trans Alaska Pipeline, a joint venture between Standard Oil of Ohio, Atlantic Richfield,
Exxon, British Petroleum, Mobil Oil, Phillips Petroleum, Union Oil, and Amerada Hess (1978). Each
of these investments represent capital expenditures that exceed the ability of a single firm to finance.
However, through a joint venture arrangement, the higher risks more than normal that absorbed by the
capital employed could be managed.
Legal:
The China project was established as an individual legal entity, and it separates from the legal and

Positive Effects Of A Bushfire
Australia is the most flammable country on Earth. In 1770, as Captain James Cook sailed along the
east coast of Australia, and in his journal he wrote that Australia was a continent of smoke due to all
the bushfires he could see from his ship. A bushfire is a fire that burns in grass, bush or woodland that
can threaten life, property, and the ecosystem. Bushfires can be natural disasters and human caused
disasters, since they can be started both ways. They have undesired effects on the ecosystem and
people. There are measures taken to prevent these fires which mostly succeed, but repairing the areas
after the bushfire is over usually takes a while.
Bushfires can start for many different reasons. They are more likely to occur when the weather is very
hot and dry. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of positive effects are when the fire destroys some adult trees and burns the branches, trunks
and leaves of the others, and burns the undergrowth. This effect is positive because it means the seeds
and soil that needed a fire to release them, can now germinate. Young plants can also grow vigorously
due to the increase in light caused by the fire. A fire can also change the structure in the soil by
making it thinner and releasing its stored nutrients which give the ideal condition for seeds to
germinate. However this can also be considered a negative effect, because at the same time it makes
the soil easier to be washed or blown away. More examples of negative effects bushfires bring are that
they significantly reduce the number of animals in an ecosystem, which can eventually lead to
extinction of endangered species. Many animals die while trying to escape the fire, while some escape
to a safe area. The escaped animals will not be able to return until food is available again. This
damages the food web and can take years to return to normal. Bushfires can easily get out of control,
and that leads them into

Racial Inequality In A Confederacy Of Dunces By John...

November 28, 2017
The Hardships and The Racial Inequality of The World
John Kennedy Toole s play A Confederacy of Dunces illustrates some of the present controversial
problems of modern society using Southern Gothic elements as a tool to criticize these issues.
Amazingly, the play takes place in New Orleans and was written in a time where many notable figures
like Toole were able to illustrate or advocate the hardships and inequalities during the Jim Crow era.
Burma Jones is the perfect paragon of a man who endures the injustices of modern slavery for being
an economically low class black citizen with no education in which elucidates the current problems of
abuse and inequality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toole is obviously attacking the evil people of society who are given great power and responsibility
and use this advantage for corruption and slavery.
Racial profiling discrimination is one big reason why modern slavery still exists today. One example
is the racial profiling that occurs in the Toole s play where the police are accusing or assuming Burma
Jones stole a bag of nuts since most African Americans are unfairly untrusted and fall on the
stereotypes that they participate in criminal activity. A quote from John H. McWhorter of the City
Journal stresses that In some parts of the country, black men are so overrepresented in criminal
activities that police officers, white and black, would be shirking their duty not to concentrate on
them. (McWhorter). To avoid being arrested from the law as a vagrant he is required to get a job, with
no experience or education in the workforce he eventually has to settle for a miserable position in a
bar sweeping for below minimum wage which delineates the image of being trapped in modern
slavery. Another statistic worth noting is from the NORC article from the University of Chicago
stating that half of black Americans report being treated unfairly by police because of their race, and
their views of law enforcement are shaped by this experience. (NORC 1). Today, millions of
Americans have different opinions over how we think the police in our local communities treat racial
and ethnic minorities whether it s with

Malvolio Twelfth Night
The role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night is, generally, being the target of Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and
Maria s pranks and foolishness. At the beginning of the play, he is very easy to find intolerable, due to
his killjoy like behaviour and vanity. However, by the end of the play, the audience mostly feel sorry
for him, because of the malicious way that Sir Toby and others treat Malvolio. Despite this, Malvolio
is one of the main sources of comedy, due to his gullibility and, as some say, his foolishness . My
argument is that Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria are the real fools of Twelfth Night Sir Toby in
particular. Fool a person who acts unwisely or imprudently; a silly person. My first point is Sir Toby,
Sir Andrew and Maria are the real fools of Twelfth Night, since they create the foolishness, while
Malvolio is simply a victim of their foolish behaviour. This foolish behaviour is the pranks that Sir
Toby and others pull and Malvolio is a victim of it since he is the victim of all their pranks. For
example, Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria forged a love letter from Olivia, addressed to M, O, A, I
(Malvolio). In this letter, Olivia says Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, and wished to
see thee ever cross gartered . Malvolio falls for this and wears cross gartered yellow stockings.
Another display of their pranks is when Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Maria and Fabian tie Malvolio up in a
dark room Come, we ll have him in a dark room and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Sir Toby and Sir Andrew are constantly drunk, which makes them act unwise and foolish
throughout the whole play. Also, Malvolio takes himself seriously and isn t aware of what other
people think of him, but a fool would want other people to laugh and them and will purposefully say
silly things. Therefore, Malvolio is not the real fool of Twelfth Night and Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and

Pierre-Auguste Renoir s Luncheon Of The Boating Party
Luncheon of the Boating Party by Pierre Auguste Renoir is one of the most renowned paintings. The
painting is significant to the age of impressionism; this movement in France took place in 1870 s 1880

Luncheon of the Boating Party depicts the identity of impressionism during the bridge of the 19th to
the 20th century. Luncheon of the Boating Party is composited of a variety of different physical
properties. The piece is large in size, with the height of the painting, 130 by 173 cm, on an oil canvas.

Once you look at Renoir s painting, you immediately notice the colors. The piece involves a variety of
different colors not only separately but also combined constructing different skin tones, and
complexions. The surface is dominated by contrasted colors of soft and smooth variations of colors,
crisp accents along with warm and cool colors as well as light and dark tone all working together.
These colors include, blue, brown, pink, yellow, orange, green and red. The colors of the women s
faces, for example, the blush color added to their cheeks, conjure an element of intimacy to the
painting. Renoir is known for invoking moods from his subjects rather than stories. Before this time
period these colors were not typically experimented with, which is why paintings of Impressionism
maintain a unique brightness. The piece looks like it is necessary a sketch is drawn to create the
image, however Renoir like many other Impressionists did not plan their work ahead but rather
developed compositions as they painted . The canvas captures a real event taking place, however it
cannot be described as realism because of the textures previously

Death Penalty Outline
Topic: The Death Penalty (Against)
Purpose: To show people the cons of the Death Penalty and to convince them to take action against it.
Thesis Statement: (See item C. )
I. Introduction (Attention Step)
A. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not
be too eager to deal out death in judgment. J.R.R. Tolkein
What happens when the mistake is discovered after a man has been executed for a crime he did not
commit? What do we tell his mother, his father, his widow, or even his children? No apology could
comfort the friends or family of a man who was executed whom was innocent. Nothing can bring a
man back from death.
B. The death penalty is currently legal in 35 states; including Oklahoma and Texas. Since 1976 there

has executed the most people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A. Economics
1. The problem is, it costs more to execute an inmate than life imprisonment. For example, In Texas, a
death penalty case costs taxpayers an average of $2.3 million, about three times the cost of
imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years. If the 515 executions
hadn t occurred, and these offenders were sentenced life imprisonment without the option of parole,
Texas tax payers could ve saved approximately $790 million.
2. New Jersey, for example, laid off more than 500 police officers in 1991. At the same time, it was
implementing a death penalty which would cost an estimated $16 million per year, more than enough
to hire the same number of officers at a salary of $30,000 per year.
3. In Texas, the early release of prisoners has meant that inmates are serving only 20 percent of their
sentences and re arrests are common. On the other hand, Texas spent an estimated $183.2 million in
just six years on the death penalty. The money used for the death penalty can easily be used to keep

Irony In Because I Could Not Stop For Death
Emily Dickinson was a nineteenth century American poet who was noted for her eloquent, concise,
and deceptively simple verses (Merriam Webster s Encyclopedia of Literature). Dickinson possessed a
unique writing style unlike any other due to her use of short stanzas, partial rhyme, random
capitalization, punctuation, and her use of irony. Emily Dickinson utilized her unique writing style to
display her knowledge and emotion of death.
In Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for Death, the narrator describes an experience that
occurred involving a journey with death. The poem begins with the narrator painting a visual image of
her experience with death, He kindly stopped for me The Carriage held but just Ourselves... And

I heard a Fly buzz when I died, begins with the narrator describing how The Stillness in the Room
Was like the Stillness in the Air (Dickinson 2 3). This description of her surroundings provides a sense
of tension in the air causing it to appear heavy and thick. In the following stanza, the narrator
mentions The Eyes around had wrung them dry And Breaths were gathering firm (Dickinson 5 6). By
this description, the reader can envision an image of the aftermath of the surrounding individuals
crying. Furthermore, the succeeding stanza involves the narrator willing her belonging to friends and
loved ones. However, a twist begins on the twelfth line, There interposed a Fly (Dickinson 12). Due to
the use of Dickinson s vocabulary, it is evident that the fly is interrupting this serious moment in time.
Finally, in the last stanza the narrator negatively describes the fly and its imposition on her final

The Naked Man of Steel by Angus Taylor Essay
THE NAKED MAN OF STEEL In 2006, Angus Taylor, a South African sculptor, created a giant
carbon steel statue of a naked black man (Froud, 2011). The artwork was named Positive (Fig 1). The
origin and meaning behind this name will be revealed further on in the essay. The statue caused varied
reactions in three different locations, namely on the campus of the University of Potchefstroom, in
front of a Strand apartment block and finally a farm in the middle of the Karoo. There were some
harsh reactions towards the artwork from sections of the White community and some of the Black
community. These reactions led to issues regarding the right to freedom of expression from the artist
and the public. Statues are generally erected and displayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Woestyn had no concerns as to how it would affect the public, but he realised that the moment it was
erected, it caused a stir (Woestyn 2014). One of the complaints was the size of the artwork 2.6m high
and weighing in at 750kg (Peters, 2006). Some of the criticisms were: It is disgusting. If the owner
likes it so much he should put it in his lounge (Peters, 2006) Why must we Christians be subjected to
this? (Peters, 2006) This is a conservative town and by tomorrow it will probably have underpants or a
robe on it (Leppan, 2006) The latter comment proved to be an apt forecast, because a few days later it
had a nappy tied around its genitals (Peters, 2006). Taylor said, The groin was modelled to the
proportions of the David statue by Michelangelo which in proportion is relatively small (Taylor 2014).
This quote suggests acceptance by the viewers of the David statue, yet the viewers of Positive are
critical. After several complaints, Woestyn could no longer handle the protesting so he removed the
statue (Woestyn 2014). An anonymous blogger on Heldeberg news and Info blog said: No longer will
this statue torment our community, and innocent children will no longer be subjected to seeing the
private parts of this very vulgar statue! (Leppan, 2006). Hence the negative reaction led towards the
second removal of Positive . From this, one can deduce that many people are not comfortable with
nudity.

The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay
Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare spending in
the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity that is counter to
this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation which many studies
show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital consolidation such as the
impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the scope of this paper. Why
Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients, improving quality and lowering
costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals to work together in several ways, such
as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or establishing bundled payments for episodes of care
(Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally,
compliance with various federal programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in
technology which can be fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these
smaller entities by larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit
of consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create
economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and therefore
cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). However, what most hospital

Similarities Between Performances Of Music And Sport
MacNamara, Holmes and Collins (2006) state that there are numerous similarities between
performances in music and sport. Expert musicians and sports performers are more able to adapt to
setbacks than lesser skilled performers, as well as experts having higher levels of dedication and
motivation and can communicate more emotion through the pieces being played. Similarly to Chaffin
et al. (2003) this communication of emotion may be related to the artistic image with both requiring
focus and decision making. In order to become an expert performer Abbott and Collins (2004) suggest
that talent development requires the possession of Psychological Characteristics for Developing
Excellence (PCDE), which as the performer moves through the transition phases become further
developed. PCDE s are both trait characteristics and state related skills such as self belief, dedication
and discipline (Abbott and Collins, 2004). Another significant aspect of becoming an expert musician
is deliberate practice. Deliberate practice requires determination with the correct motivation for the
performer, and the necessary time and effort roughly equating to 10,000 hours (Ericsson et al., 1993).
MacNamara, Holmes and Collins (2008) state that expert musicians require numerous aspects to reach
the highest level; natural talent and/or deliberate practice combined with social context and significant
others are needed to maintain performance at this high level. As talent is developed, the performer

Bicycle Thieves Essay
Bicycle Thieves (1948) is the story of a father and his desperate search for his stolen bicycle, without
which he faces poverty and an inability to support his young family. The film was directed by Vittorio
De Sica, who co wrote the screenplay with Cesare Zavattini, based on the novel of the same name by
Luigi Bartolini. André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a true masterpiece of Italian
neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the
aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many
ways, his assertion was true, with the likes of Rossellini and Visconti continuing to produce additions
to the canon, De Sica again contributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This produces an almost documentary like aesthetic, layering the fiction with a sense of honest reality;
the camera feels like a spectator placed in the environment, reflecting the ambience of documentaries.
Similarly, in Bicycle Thieves, the use of location shooting produces a similar result; the busy Sunday
market, the search by the Tiber, Antonio s failed theft outside of the stadium; all of these scenes carry
an atmosphere of actuality. Bicycle Thieves succeeds as a realist film here, the use of real location
lends a sense of authenticity to the aesthetic quality of the film. While it may not have the same raw
delivery as Rome, Open City, which was haphazardly shot during the liberation of Italy, we are still
presented with a cinematography and mise en scene which respects the reality it is attempting to
portray. Bicycle Thieves prospers in this sense, the simple journey through Rome over the course of
the film does not exploit the wonders of the ancient city. De Sica purposefully shows us the streets we
are not familiar with, the parts of the city which belong to its people, not its internationally recognized

Descriptive Essay About Iceland
When I first started reading about Iceland, most of what I read was about how beautiful and
picturesque the country is and how it was going to blow my mind.
This got me intrigued with finding out more about Iceland. So I began researching a lot about the
country. What caught my eye as something that I really wanted to experience was this so called Ring
Road trip.
Iceland has one main road (Route 1) that goes around the entire country. It s about 1,332 km or 828
miles. It takes about 18.5 hours to complete it without stopping.
The airport you fly into is called Keflavik airport and it s about 40 mins outside of Reykjavik the
capital and largest city in Iceland. (Fun Fact: Reykjavik is the most northern capital in the world).
There are two ways to start the ring road trip, Clockwise or counterclockwise. Loure and I started
counterclockwise as a lot of the attractions we wanted to see were on the South side of the country.
Most sources about Iceland and the Ring Road will advise that you should allow about 10 days to
fully experience the ring road. I would have to agree but of course you can do it much faster than that.
Loure and I completed it in 7 days and we saw most of the major attractions. We also met a couple
who completed the ring road in five days.
Below I will breakdown how I spent each day in Iceland along with some advice that I received and
learned during my trip to Iceland which will hopefully be beneficial to everyone.

Morgan Spurlock s Film, Super Size Me Essay
As Steven Spielberg once said, documentaries are the greatest way to educate an entire generation
(Azevedo, 2013). In Morgan Spurlock s documentary Super Size Me, audiences are informed and
shown the dangers of consuming fast food everyday. Spurlock has a camera follow him for one month
as he consumes McDonalds for each meal thus exposing one to the unhealthy affects of the lifestyle.
Relying on images, interviews, and statistics the viewers are informed of how processed fast foods
begin to affect people starting from a young age. This documentary style film shapes the perception of
the spectator through the use of visual and narrative techniques. Morgan Spurlock s film Super Size

One can see that Spurlock believes that fast food industry is responsible for the rise in obesity hence
the reason for his experiment. Through narrative and editing Spurlock removes any biases that may
alter the results of his experiment (Cornell, Lecture #12). He films himself as well as others in
uncontrolled situations, the audience is put into his shoes as they watch these situations unfold just as
he once did (Cornell, Lecture #12). Spurlock sets rules to control the experiment for more accurate
results. These rules include eating three meals at McDonalds each day, only eating or drinking items
that are sold by McDonalds, super sizing meals only when asked, and trying everything on the menu
at least once. Rather than visiting the same McDonalds and dealing with the same employees, he
travels around to different cities and states. In the beginning of his experiment, Spurlock travels to
Houston, Texas which is known for being the most obese city in the United States. On his first trip to a
McDonalds in Houston he is automatically asked if he would prefer to super size his meal.
Throughout his entire 30 day experiment he is asked to super size his meal nine times, five of those
times are from employees in Texas. Questioning a vast array of people in schools and on the street,
Spurlock attempts to provoke responses in subjects being interviewed as well as the audience (Cornell,
Lecture #12). Due to the lack of direction and script the questions, answers, and

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Fight Against Homosexuals
In 1953, Dwight D. Eisenhower became the 34th President of the Unite States. His main goal was to
keep pressure on the Soviet Union during the early stages of the Cold War. During his Presidency,
Eisenhower brought back many of the old traditional values and fiercely attacked homosexuality and
sexual immorality.
Born into a strong religious household, Eisenhower believed that sex offenders and homosexuals
posed a national security risk; therefore, they should not be allowed employment into any Government
positions. Eisenhower s administration claimed that because of their sexual orientation, homosexuals
were more susceptible to blackmail by a communist enemy. Because of that, on April of 1953,
Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10450 which revoked President Truman s 1947 Executive Order
9835. In this new order, Eisenhower charged the heads of all federal agencies, with the assistance of
the FBI, with investigating all federal employees to discover if they posed security risks. Also ... Show

McLeod increased the fight against homosexuals and sexual offenders by creating a special branch
called Miscellaneous M Unit. The M Unit used a variety of techniques to expose homosexuals, with
the most successful ones being polygraph tests and personal interviews. Under McLeod s guidance,
the M Unit forced many federal employees accused of any sexual deviation, to resign. Many others
forced into confessions after prolonged interrogations. In addition to what was happening in the
United States, many Government Officials feared that homosexuals that worked in international
organizations would create a scandal that will bring negative attention to the United States. Therefore,
America demanded that the other U.N. nations take the same stand against homosexuality. Britain,
Canada and Australia soon followed the United States

Essay On Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous an Open Meeting Dominique Steinburg describes mutual aid as a process
through which people develop collaborative, supportive, and trustworthy relationships; identify and
use existing strengths and/or to develop new ones; and work together toward individual and/or
collective psychosocial goals. (Steinburg, 2010) Alcoholics Anonymous is mutual aid group that
supports individuals in their recovery from alcohol dependence. Established in the mid 1930 s,
Alcoholics Anonymous was borne from the principals of self improvement and mutual aid practiced
by the Oxford Group. The Oxford Group was a popular religious movement in the United States and
Europe at that time. (AA) When Rowland H., a prominent Rhode Island businessman and Yale
graduate, relapsed into his alcoholism, the renowned psychoanalyst Carl Jung, refused to provide any
further treatment citing that Rowland had reached the end of what psychology and medical science
had to offer him. Carl Jung recommended that Rowland H. seek spiritual guidance and referred him to
the Oxford Group. (Blum, 2006) After experiencing nothing short of a miraculous recovery, Rowland
H., decided to act upon one of the principals took the Oxford Group s message to a friend named Ebby
Thatcher, who was struggling with alcoholism and facing a prison sentence. Ebby desperate to avoid
prison readily agreed to give it a try. The pair convinced the judge to release him into the care and
custody of Rowland H. After finding

love baseball. I love watching the strategies, the big plays, the colossal errors (anyone remember poor
Bill Buckner?) and the dramatic finishes. The Tampa Bay Rays, who in nine of their first ten years of
existence finished dead last in their division (In 2004 they managed to beat out one team and finished
fourth in their division), surprised everyone in 2008 by beating out such teams as the Boston Red Sox
and the New York Yankees and made it to the World Series only to lose to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Even though they lost the World Series, they were heroes in the eyes of millions who rooted for them
and their storybook season.
One strategy that I particularly enjoy is the use of specialty players, of which the most prevalent is the
closer . The closer is a pitcher who is brought in for just a very short period of the game (typically the
last inning of a game) to shut down opponent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time after time many project managers will start out of the blocks full of excitement and passion
about their project. Then along the way things start going wrong, whether it be unanticipated schedule

than act deliberately, many PM s will sweep the problem under the rug, start screaming fire , panic, or
politically disengage themselves from the problem by blaming someone else. In any event, rather than
act to address the problem the PM does nothing to help the situation and most likely does things to
further exacerbate the problem. If management is attentive to the problem then a likely outcome is to
replace the project manager with a closer ; a more experienced and seasoned PM who can stare down
a problem and get things under control. Closers are worth their weight in gold to an at risk

Paul Simon s Separation Of South Africa
In 1986, the United Nations made a grave mistake. The cultural boycott of South Africa encouraged
member states and organizations...to cut cultural, educational and sporting ties with South Africa. The
censorship silenced the voices of liberal musicians and artists who could have contributed to the fight
against apartheid. Moreover, the faulty amelioration justified UN members isolation of South Africa.
Through the release of Graceland, Paul Simon brought awareness to the state of South Africa. By
spreading their music and culture, he threatens the discourse on apartheid. In this paper, I will argue
how Paul Simon s breaking of the cultural boycott benefited the black South Africans.
Paul Simon broke the cultural boycott by bringing two cultures together through a collaborative
process. He diminished the binary of us and them by creating music beyond cultural boundaries.
When he created the album, he didn t want it to be just an African album . By doing so, Simon not
only brought awareness to African culture, but conveyed how the unification of two separate cultures
can create something beautiful. In his songs he included lyrics, which mixed African and English
words. The hegemony of South Africa wanted to control what was spoken to control power. However,
this amalgamation undermined the discourse on apartheid as those who were able ... Show more

Nevertheless, by combining South African music and American music, he conveyed the world the
beauty that may arise from mixing cultures. Simon did not just tell the world of the good
amalgamation can do, but he told the world how these artists were affected under the rule of apartheid.
He further combats South Africa s power structure by granting black South African musicians the
opportunity to travel abroad for music s sake. Through breaking the cultural boycott and undermining
discourse on apartheid, Paul Simon aided the black South

Essay On Articles Of Confederation
For the past decade, we have been living under the government of the Articles of Confederation, if that
can be called a government at all. Under that folly of a constitution, we have barely existed, Congress
weaker than a mewling baby. We are named the United States of America, but under the Articles of
Confederation, we are nothing more than the squabbling states somewhat nearby each other. We could
get nothing done under the Articles. Each state has a veto power, and each state has an agenda. This
means that any legislation a state disgrees with will not pass. In a decade, we have accomplished little
beyond settling the western matter, our Congress and national government ineffectual and broke. The
states have too much power, conducting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even under the amended Articles of Confederation, we have little power to run our country. We have
nothing if not our people and our pride, and we are losing both. The people of this nation are losing
their faith in the Articles and this government, and for good reason. We have failed to govern. The
Constitution promises that we can both ensure the safety and the liberties of our people. It is an
agreement between the nation and the states between the nation and our society. Federalism is the idea
of sharing power, which all will do so willingly. The farmers of our nation have declared the Articles a
tyranny, going so far as acting in rebellion against it. It is our job to listen to these rebellions and
defiances, for that was how began our own country. Under the Constitution, here shall be no tyranny,
for what tyrant can there be when power is shared? All three branches of the government will work
together to reign the nation and reign each other. The Constitution is our utopian idea of a new,
indelible government, one where all work from all levels to protect and serve. Those of us who hold
power in this government wil be fallible and imperfect, subject to our faults and agencies, but the
Constitution shall remain there always, to uphold our ideals and to shield those under our care from
war and famine, and from our government

English Verb Forms Of English Grammar
According to ELT and Greebaum s The Oxford English Grammar (1996) English verb forms can be
systematized under two huge categories, each of them includes sub categories of forms.
1.Inflected forms:
1.1. Base Form of verbs: In English grammar a regular English verb has only on principal part, from
which all following verb forms can be derived. This form is available in dictionary and is called base
form. For example, base form is paint, the inflected forms are: paint, paints, painted, painting. Hence
we can notice, that the base may be called the bare infinitive and the another common way to referring
to verbs is combination with to + infinitive, for example, to paint (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.118 121)
1.2. Irregular verbs have three principal parts (because the simple past and past participle are
unpredictable). For instance, the verb write with the base form write, past form wrote, and past
participle written, the remaining forms (writes and writing) are derived regularly (Greenbaum, S.,
1996, Pp.126 128)
1.3. Also there are such verbs as do, say and have that additionally have irregular third person singular
present tense forms.
1.4. That is, the copular verb be is irregular (forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, been and being),
1.5. On the opposition modal verbs (can and must) are defective verbs and are being used only in
limited number of forms (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.125 129).
Another important part of verb form analysis is grammatical base form or plain form

Theme Of Colonialism In The Midnight s Children
Through the prescribed framework of magic realism, the novel allows its multitude of characters,
belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds, to appraise and originate their own versions of Indian
history, thus subverting British colonial versions of history. Magic realism becomes obligatory to
communicate the postcoloniality of India, and within its framework, the novel explores and presents a
postcolonial history of its own. The cultural and social hybridity, along with the historical hybridity
present within the novel allows the text to exemplify the major themes of the novel and postcoloniality
itself: the formation and telling of history, self, and narratives. The novel effectively and noticeably
depicts the problems of postcoloniality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only are these children obligatory for India s new future, but they remain a mirror for India s
future, illuminating the strengths and weaknesses of an independent India. The Midnight s Children
therefore symbolize the multiplicity and miscellany within postcolonial India.
Conclusion:
Rushdie assumes magic realism as an efficient tool to resolve the problems of post colonialism. So, by
linking and combining historical events, mythological stories and fictional narratives, Rushdie tries to
generate and convey a true picture of Indian post colonialism while the colonizers considered India
and Indians as a colossal place and people, the novel illustrates India s multiplicity and diversity, in an
effort to overturn the colonial representation of India. Midnight s Children is therefore an attempt to
evoke India. All these attempts would have been impossible without the insertion of magic realism.

British industrialization was concentrated in those areas which had experienced prior proto
industrialisation. Therefore proto industry was necessary for factory industry discuss.
One model, proposed by Mendels, was that proto industry was responsible for the rapid expansion in
population, in what he called demo economic systems. This was mainly on the basis that rural

Proto industrialisation was taken as rural peasants turning to industrial production, such as
textiles, straw plaiting; glass making and creating domestic and international markets where this
produce was sold. This is clearly an early capitalist development, with the emergence of industrial
production and the commercialisation of trade.
Medick theorized an outline of the stages for proto industrialization to develop into industrialisation,
with the first stage, Kaufsystem, referring to the rural peasants maintenance of control over the
production and selling of their output. Entrepreneurs recognised the attractiveness of rural workers,
and rural production, as it was uninhibited by; urban guilds and company restrictions which was the
way many towns were, whilst many worker s wages could be lower as some still partly had a
subsistence base in agriculture. This led to
Verlagsystem, a heightened merchant capital investment, which lead to the peasants loss of control
and autonomy over production. Merchant capitalists would supply factor inputs, and workers would
process them in return for wage, with the merchant capitalists extracting the profits. A third and final
stage was the movement of production to centralized and mechanized factories. Medick therefore saw
a logical progression, whereby proto industrialisation would lead to industrialisation, with rural
peasants developing a trade

Copyright Law On The Planet
Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet (Mark
Twain). The concept of copyright in the United States has a large history. The first form of copyright
in the United States stems from Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year
1787, where Congress shall have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by
securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and
discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first Copyright Act of
1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced, copyright practices in the United
States have undergone several reforms, among the most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium
Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998. Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online
service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been a subject of
controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control access to their content. This is
accomplished through methods such as copyright trolling, in which the copyright holder produces
works solely for the purpose of litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are
thought to be a violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without

Sometimes, to grow, people have to shrink first. So then they have a new start, to grow bigger then they ever were. In order to have success, sometimes failure comes first, this happens in today s life, and the Odyssey. Odysseus was a brave and strong man that got through unimaginable dangers, but that doesn t mean he didn t have any failure that led to his success. Odysseus was a leader to all of his men, but his orders are not always followed. In the story, The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus was sent away, and he took many men with him along in his journey. Odysseus was weary about it, but he was outnumbered, so, he agreed to stop at the island with only one rule they had to obey. They were not allowed to kill or touch the cattle on the island. The stay at the island was longer than Odysseus had planned, there were strong winds sent by Zeus that didn t let them go bad out to sea, and forced them to stay in the island for a long time. One night Odysseus fell asleep. His men were starving, overcome by their hunger, they killed the cattle to eat. Once Odysseus found out, he cried out to the gods, O Father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, you made me sleep away this day of mischief! O cruel drowsing in the evil hour! Here they sat and a great work they contrived (Homer 842). Odysseus failed at keeping his men from eating the cattle. The failure broke him down, but he still kept on going with his job, that later soon will led to his success. Odysseus succeeded many times along his journey, but there is always room to grow stronger. Odysseus failed once again at Helios s Island. Once the winds, that were sent by Zeus, came to a stop, the men were able to carry on with the journey. But soon later, with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result the forces of change can seriously affect the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of individuals. The affects of change can have a positive or negative outcome. These affects can be viewed in all three of the texts that we have studied for the Area of Study. Change is a part of life and whether or not we like that aftermath of the particular aspect of the change it will happen, you can put it off and put it off but sooner or later it will happen. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In John s Case his changing perspective of himself was a negative one. Change. Such an uncomplicated word, yet so hard to define. The word itself possibly prevents it from being defined because every person sees change as a different thing, so therefore there are possibly around 6 billion definitions of change in the world. The song At Seventeen by song writer Janis Ian relates to changing perspectives in her life as a seventeen year old girl. At the start of the song in verse one she describes a girl at seventeen who thinks she is ugly and doesn t fit in with the popular group. She wants to have everything that the popular girls have. She soon relishes that she will never have this social status and she starts to dream up boys that call her up and ask her to dance. The end of verse two and the beginning of the third verse Janis Ian is reflecting back on those terrible years when she was seventeen. She was once an ugly outcast who had no social standing and now all the small town folk look at her and she now exceeds their expectations they have no love left, they are lonely, and now Janis has everything, she has won the game of life and love. The lyrics of At Seventeen by Janis Ian are emotional and reflective as opposed to telling a story, Janis is intensely outpouring her inner most personal thoughts and feelings. Fully describe the characteristics of a plasma membrane. Be specific using your own words. (2 3 paragraphs include structure, general function, proteins.) Cell membranes are basically the barrier of a cell between its interior and its exterior environment. It protects the cell as well as governs what can and cannot pass through and enter into the cell. Active transport on the other hand is the movement from low to high concentration. This kind of transportation requires energy. An example of this would be moving those sodium chloride molecules from the diluted left side to the concentrated right side. Now looking at osmosis, this is a process that takes place after reaching equilibrium. The sodium chloride is still moving between both sides, but instead of the right side moving more quickly to the left side (in diffusion) both sides are moving between the membrane at the same rate. 3. Use crenation, red blood cell shrinking, plasmolysis, and turgid plant cells to differentiate between hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. (2 3 paragraphs) Starting with hypertonic, it s a term used to describe when the exterior environment of a cell is more highly concentrated than its interior environment. Say you placed an animal cell, such as a red blood cell, in a solution high in sodium chloride. The water inside the red blood cell would rush out, causing the cell to shrivel up. This is called crenetion. It s a result of osmosis where red blood cells undergo shrinkage. Something similar happens in plant cells, however, with plant cells the membrane gets teared off the cell wall. This is called plasmolysis. This happens because the cytoplasm is mostly made up of water, so as that shrinks from all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1770, as Captain James Cook sailed along the east coast of Australia, and in his journal he wrote that Australia was a continent of smoke due to all the bushfires he could see from his ship. A bushfire is a fire that burns in grass, bush or woodland that can threaten life, property, and the ecosystem. Bushfires can be natural disasters and human caused disasters, since they can be started both ways. They have undesired effects on the ecosystem and people. Examples of positive effects are when the fire destroys some adult trees and burns the branches, trunks and leaves of the others, and burns the undergrowth. This effect is positive because it means the seeds and soil that needed a fire to release them, can now germinate. Young plants can also grow vigorously due to the increase in light caused by the fire. A fire can also change the structure in the soil by making it thinner and releasing its stored nutrients which give the ideal condition for seeds to germinate. However this can also be considered a negative effect, because at the same time it makes the soil easier to be washed or blown away. More examples of negative effects bushfires bring are that they significantly reduce the number of animals in an ecosystem, which can eventually lead to extinction of endangered species. Many animals die while trying to escape the fire, while some escape to a safe area. The escaped animals will not be able to return until food is available again. This damages the food web and can take years to return to normal. Bushfires can easily get out of control, and that leads them into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Andrew Gonzalez Eng. 102 Sec 26025 Prof. MacLeod November 28, 2017 The Hardships and The Racial Inequality of The World John Kennedy Toole s play A Confederacy of Dunces illustrates some of the present controversial problems of modern society using Southern Gothic elements as a tool to criticize these issues. Amazingly, the play takes place in New Orleans and was written in a time where many notable figures like Toole were able to illustrate or advocate the hardships and inequalities during the Jim Crow era. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Toole is obviously attacking the evil people of society who are given great power and responsibility and use this advantage for corruption and slavery. Racial profiling discrimination is one big reason why modern slavery still exists today. One example is the racial profiling that occurs in the Toole s play where the police are accusing or assuming Burma Jones stole a bag of nuts since most African Americans are unfairly untrusted and fall on the stereotypes that they participate in criminal activity. A quote from John H. McWhorter of the City Journal stresses that In some parts of the country, black men are so overrepresented in criminal activities that police officers, white and black, would be shirking their duty not to concentrate on them. • 11. Malvolio Twelfth Night The role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night is, generally, being the target of Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria s pranks and foolishness. At the beginning of the play, he is very easy to find intolerable, due to his killjoy like behaviour and vanity. However, by the end of the play, the audience mostly feel sorry for him, because of the malicious way that Sir Toby and others treat Malvolio. Despite this, Malvolio is one of the main sources of comedy, due to his gullibility and, as some say, his foolishness . My argument is that Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria are the real fools of Twelfth Night Sir Toby in particular. Fool a person who acts unwisely or imprudently; a silly person. My first point is Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria are the real fools of Twelfth Night, since they create the foolishness, while Malvolio is simply a victim of their foolish behaviour. This foolish behaviour is the pranks that Sir Toby and others pull and Malvolio is a victim of it since he is the victim of all their pranks. For example, Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Maria forged a love letter from Olivia, addressed to M, O, A, I (Malvolio). In this letter, Olivia says Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, and wished to see thee ever cross gartered . Malvolio falls for this and wears cross gartered yellow stockings. The artwork was named Positive (Fig 1). The origin and meaning behind this name will be revealed further on in the essay. The statue caused varied reactions in three different locations, namely on the campus of the University of Potchefstroom, in front of a Strand apartment block and finally a farm in the middle of the Karoo. • 17. The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare spending in the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity that is counter to this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation which many studies show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital consolidation such as the impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the scope of this paper. Why Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients, improving quality and lowering costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals to work together in several ways, such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or establishing bundled payments for episodes of care (Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally, compliance with various federal programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in technology which can be fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these smaller entities by larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit of consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and therefore cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). • 18. Similarities Between Performances Of Music And Sport MacNamara, Holmes and Collins (2006) state that there are numerous similarities between performances in music and sport. Expert musicians and sports performers are more able to adapt to setbacks than lesser skilled performers, as well as experts having higher levels of dedication and motivation and can communicate more emotion through the pieces being played. Similarly to Chaffin et al. (2003) this communication of emotion may be related to the artistic image with both requiring focus and decision making. In order to become an expert performer Abbott and Collins (2004) suggest that talent development requires the possession of Psychological Characteristics for Developing Excellence (PCDE), which as the performer moves through the transition phases become further developed. PCDE s are both trait characteristics and state related skills such as self belief, dedication and discipline (Abbott and Collins, 2004). Another significant aspect of becoming an expert musician is deliberate practice. Deliberate practice requires determination with the correct motivation for the performer, and the necessary time and effort roughly equating to 10,000 hours (Ericsson et al., 1993). André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a true masterpiece of Italian neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many ways, his assertion was true, with the likes of Rossellini and Visconti continuing to produce additions to the canon, De Sica again contributing ... English Verb Forms Of English Grammar According to ELT and Greebaum s The Oxford English Grammar (1996) English verb forms can be systematized under two huge categories, each of them includes sub categories of forms. 1.Inflected forms: 1.1. Base Form of verbs: In English grammar a regular English verb has only on principal part, from which all following verb forms can be derived. This form is available in dictionary and is called base form. For example, base form is paint, the inflected forms are: paint, paints, painted, painting. Hence we can notice, that the base may be called the bare infinitive and the another common way to referring to verbs is combination with to + infinitive, for example, to paint (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.118 121) 1.2. Irregular verbs have three principal parts (because the simple past and past participle are unpredictable). For instance, the verb write with the base form write, past form wrote, and past participle written, the remaining forms (writes and writing) are derived regularly (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.126 128) 1.3. Also there are such verbs as do, say and have that additionally have irregular third person singular present tense forms. 1.4. That is, the copular verb be is irregular (forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, been and being), 1.5. On the opposition modal verbs (can and must) are defective verbs and are being used only in limited number of forms (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.125 129). • 32. Theme Of Colonialism In The Midnight s Children Through the prescribed framework of magic realism, the novel allows its multitude of characters, belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds, to appraise and originate their own versions of Indian history, thus subverting British colonial versions of history. Magic realism becomes obligatory to communicate the postcoloniality of India, and within its framework, the novel explores and presents a postcolonial history of its own. The cultural and social hybridity, along with the historical hybridity present within the novel allows the text to exemplify the major themes of the novel and postcoloniality itself: the formation and telling of history, self, and narratives. The novel effectively and noticeably depicts the problems of postcoloniality and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only are these children obligatory for India s new future, but they remain a mirror for India s future, illuminating the strengths and weaknesses of an independent India. The Midnight s Children therefore symbolize the multiplicity and miscellany within postcolonial India. Conclusion: Rushdie assumes magic realism as an efficient tool to resolve the problems of post colonialism. So, by linking and combining historical events, mythological stories and fictional narratives, Rushdie tries to generate and convey a true picture of Indian post colonialism while the colonizers considered India and Indians as a colossal place and people, the novel illustrates India s multiplicity and diversity, in an effort to overturn the colonial representation of India. Midnight s Children is therefore an attempt to evoke India. All these attempts would have been impossible without the insertion of magic realism. WORKS CITED: 1. Gray, Martin. Therefore proto industry was necessary for factory industry discuss. One model, proposed by Mendels, was that proto industry was responsible for the rapid expansion in population, in what he called demo economic systems. This was mainly on the basis that rural peasants required a labour force to produce output, and by increasing fertility, they were able to breed one. Despite this, Medick suggested that the reason for increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proto industrialisation was taken as rural peasants turning to industrial production, such as textiles, straw plaiting; glass making and creating domestic and international markets where this produce was sold. This is clearly an early capitalist development, with the emergence of industrial production and the commercialisation of trade. Medick theorized an outline of the stages for proto industrialization to develop into industrialisation, with the first stage, Kaufsystem, referring to the rural peasants maintenance of control over the production and selling of their output. Entrepreneurs recognised the attractiveness of rural workers, and rural production, as it was uninhibited by; urban guilds and company restrictions which was the way many towns were, whilst many worker s wages could be lower as some still partly had a subsistence base in agriculture. This led to Verlagsystem, a heightened merchant capital investment, which lead to the peasants loss of control and autonomy over production. Merchant capitalists would supply factor inputs, and workers would process them in return for wage, with the merchant capitalists extracting the profits. A third and final stage was the movement of production to centralized and mechanized factories. Medick therefore saw a logical progression, whereby proto industrialisation would lead to industrialisation, with rural peasants developing a trade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Copyright Law On The Planet Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet (Mark Twain). The concept of copyright in the United States has a large history. The first form of copyright in the United States stems from Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year 1787, where Congress shall have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first Copyright Act of 1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced, copyright practices in the United States have undergone several reforms, among the most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998. Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been a subject of controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control access to their content. This is accomplished through methods such as copyright trolling, in which the copyright holder produces works solely for the purpose of litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are thought to be a violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
