Isolation In A Rose For Emily And Big Two Hearted River
In American literature, no two authors other than William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway effected
the literary scene more since Mark Twain. Both Hemingway and Faulkner were Nobel Prize, Pulitzer
Prize winners, and gammerd the world s affection. Faulkner s gem of a story, A Rose for Emily and
Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River both deal with the theme of isolation, but have different internal
mechanisms that advance the story. Faulkner and his use of eloquent word choice, as well as a
profound influence of Southern local color gives the effect of a Michelangelo s painting where detail
is so prevalent, the reader has a myriad of options on what individual details to value. He paints a
picture in A Rose for Emily about a woman who grows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is going camping over Memorial Day weekend, or spending Saturday night in, all can
relate to their actions. Emily seems as if she is living up to her family s expectations of her, while Nick
has no pressure on him. The fear inside of both them is also astounding. Emily was so afraid of being
left alone, that she murdered the only love interest in her life, and made him stay with her, via his dead
body in the upstairs bedroom. Nick is also recovering from the experiences of World war One, and no
form of treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has been discovered yet. He is a young man
trying to find himself, but rather than taking a giant road trip after his senior year, he is alone in the
forest. The way he is living in the forest is interesting, with him being self sufficient and fishing for
his dinner, he is again refusing society, and is falling deeper with in

Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer
Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer is about a girl who is caught in a situation in which her father attempts to
bribe her to do something immoral. One message suggested in this story is how misdirection and
trickery can negatively affect relationships between a parent and their child. Throughout the course of
the story, the father of the main character is shown feeding his daughter, Ashes, an endless string of
compliments such as You re one in a million . He gives her many words of positive reinforcement to
try and persuade her to steal money from her mother. He needs this money to pay back some guys,
whom of which are after him. He claims that he will pay her back. This strengthens the argument that
false claims can negatively affect relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As seen in this quote, Ashes father is misdirecting her by sneakily telling her that she made a good
decision to offer to help him steal the money. This evidence clearly represents how Ashes father is
misleading her with lies and it will most likely reflect in their relationship negatively. A third scene
that reflects the idea that manipulation can negatively affect the relationship between a child and their
parent is when the story quotes Am I really? I ask, not needing the reassurance. I knew I wasn t a
million in one girl,no matter how often Dad told me I was. I still loved hearing him say it. This proves
that Ashes appreciates her father s compliments and people generally respond comliently to things
they appreciate, so her father understands that complimenting her will be a good persuasion method.
When all of this evidence is put together,it is easy to comprehend that manipulation can very easily
negatively affect relation between a parent and child. The compliments were told by Ashes father to
get what he wanted; money. All of the compliments Ashes father gave to her are doubted by her but
nonetheless greeted by open ears. These examples prove that Ashes father was trying to get her to steal
her mother s money using

The Evolution of Nursing
THE EVOLUTION OF NURSING
Nursing is a profession that can be recalled and accounted for since prehistoric times to now it has
since come a long way. In fact in earlier times nursing was only a practice reserved for men. The first
nursing school was established in India in about 250 B.C., and only men were permitted to attend
because men were viewed to be more pure than women, until the 1800 s when nursing became an
organized practice. Should one embark on a research about the history of nursing one would gather a
lot of information, both interesting and controversial. However our group did in fact embark on a
research on the history of nursing or should I say the evolution of nursing. We realized that as time
went by the definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the period of apprentice nursing there was a Dark Period which extends from the 17th 19th
century. Nursing became the work of the less desirable women; these women took bribes from
patients, stole patients food and used alcohol as tranquilizers. At this time no provision were made for
the sick and no one took care of the sick. Following this period Modern Nursing was introduced by
Florence Nightingale who saw the need for development in nursing.
Modern Nursing is similar to what has been done for years. However the nurses responsibilities is of
greater demands because of the advancement that was incorporated over the years, but rest assured the
patients need is still at the forefront. The Period of Modern Nursing began on the 15th of June 1860
when Florence Nightingale School of Nursing opened in St. Thomas Hospital in London. Florence
Nightingale (1820 1910) is the founder of Modern Nursing. She followed her Christian divine calling
and committed herself to Nursing, caring for others especially poor people. She also dedicated her life
to care for the sick and war wounded victims. In 1844 Florence Nightingale began visiting hospitals.
She even spent time with nursing sisters of St. Vincent de Paul in Alexandria in 1850 and one year
later she studied at the institute for Protestant Deaconesses in Kaiserswerth, Germany. In March, 1853,
Russia invaded Turkey, Britain and France concerned about the growing power of Russia. This

Wieel Wiesel Reflection
In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, I looked at my house in which I had spent
years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be
like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty. (Wiesel 15) This passage really caught my
attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he s saying that, as
hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder and harder
to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting because it
gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were leaving
everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them.
Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage, The race to death had begun. (Wiesel 10) as an important
style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from Sighet. I
think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the text because,
it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the use of
personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they all have.
While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, He was poor and lived in utter penury.
(Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this

The Apology Of Socrates Analysis
According to Dr. Dave Yount, many Athenians still regret their decision to put Socrates to death to this
day. Is this feeling of regret acceptable? This paper will explore the details surrounding the trial of
Socrates and whether or not he was treated fairly throughout the sentencing process. In The Apology
of Socrates, Plato describes the charges against Socrates as not believing in the gods recognized by the
state, introducing supernatural beings, and corrupting the youth (246. 9 12). By considering Socrates
impiety, internal betrayal of the city, and arrogance and hypocritical words, it should be understood
that the Athenians were just in their verdict and punishment of Socrates.
It is argued that the charges brought against Socrates

Formative Vs. Summative Assessment
Formative vs. Summative Assessment In today s schools, teachers are trying to decide which form of
assessment, formative or summative, is a better measure of student s abilities. Teachers are constantly
pressured to make sure their students are doing well on state wide assessments, therefore, making sure
their students have the skills they need to succeed on these tests is extremely important. Formative
assessment gives the student and teacher feedback as the information is gathered (Cotton, 2017).
Where summative assessments are better for capturing the amount of material learned and the quality
of learning at the end of a large unit or amount of information (Dixson and Worrell 2016). Teachers
are on the warpath researching which method is the most effective way of assessing students. In the
article Formative and Summative Assessment in the Classroom , the authors Dixson and Worrell
discuss the differences between formative and summative assessment (2016). They explain that the
goal of formative assessment is to guide instruction and summative assessment is more intended to

Knowing when to use each is imperative to the success of students. It is the teacher s job to decide
when to use each of the types and subtypes of assessments. Through the research presented in this
literature it has been found that formative assessment is a more helpful form of guiding instruction.
Summative assessment is used to see what students know about a particular topic at a particular time,
such as a cumulative exam. Students and teachers alike feel the pressure that high stakes testing can
bring. Teachers make all the difference when it comes to testing. So, in order for teachers to have
classrooms where testing is used efficiently they must work diligently to make sure their assessments

The Dangers Of Chemical Weapons
Chemical weapons are one of the most devastating and lethal weapons ever created by humankind;
they have caused massive destruction since their introduction in World War One and still wreak havoc
on today s battlefields. Chemical weapons continue to be used all over the world on battlefields and
against civilian populations, unfortunately, very little has been done by the international community to
prohibit chemical weapons as only three international treaties have been created with the aim to
prohibit the manufacture and use of chemical weapons. As a result, the worsening problem of
production and deployment of chemical weapons proves that earlier conventions have failed and new,
stronger, conventions must be made by the international community to prohibit further use of
chemical weapons.
Chemical weapons are known to be one of the most dangerous weapons ever created, but the general
population is unaware of what a chemical weapon is and why it is dangerous, this is one of the major
reason why not enough has been done to prohibit chemical weapons. The Chemical Weapons
Convention defines chemical weapons as toxic chemicals contained in a delivery system such as a
bomb or a shell, that causes death, injury, incapacitation or sensory harm. The effects of chemical
weapons make it very dangerous and are one of the reasons it is still used after one hundred years
since its introduction. Chemical weapons have been used in Syria and Israel unfortunately against
civilian targets with lethal repercussions. Regrettably, Syria and Israel are not the only countries in the
world to have chemical weapons. An estimate by the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs
explains that the top twenty countries with the largest armed forces have chemical weapons stockpiles,
with Russia and the United States of America possessing about seventy thousand metric tonnes of
chemical agent. If the international community continues to ignore the major issue of chemical
weapons, the world is still at risk if countries continue to keep their very large stockpiles of lethal
chemical weapons.
Another major reason for the prevalence chemical weapons have today is because many individuals
are not aware of the scale of damage chemical

Kendra Randall Jolivet s Study
Kendra Randall Jolivet s study was a study that involved the impact that divorce has on teenagers
from the ages of thirteen to eighteen. Today divorce is looked at as another chance to happiness.
During the 1950s, divorce was based on what a spouse did wrong. The spouse had to prove the other
spouse of being guilty of committing a marital offense. There was a strong belief at the time that
children from broken homes were at the risk of school failure, delinquency, and psychological
disorders (Jolivet, 2009). As divorce has become more common,
THE WAY DIVORCE IMPACTS CHILDREN 5 legislation changed and decided that the spouse no
longer had to be at fault. In 2009, the GordonPoll Youth Survey gathered opinions on divorce from a
child s perspective. The survey asked over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The children of these parents do not want to be blamed for anything. Students say that growing up
without your mom or dad in the picture changes your whole outlook on life. Researchers found that
children are hurt when their parents do not tell them the truth about things. When parents do not keep
their child updated on things that are going on in the house, this could make the child feel like they are

divorce was not their fault. A Parental alienation is the creation of one relationship between a child
and one parent, to the exclusion of the other parent typical indicator of this would be a child who does
not wish to have contact with the target parent and expresses negative feelings towards that parent
with no real reason why. There are four forms of parental alienation: mild, moderate, overt, and
severe. Mild alienation occurs when a child feels significant discomfort

Video Game Violence Arguments
Unless you ve been living under a rock you ve probably heard of all the terrible acts of violence in
today s world. You may have also have heard many news outlets and other media sites talk about how
violence in games is influencing people to perform these acts. Yes, violent games are blamed for many
of these acts, but there is a lack of evidence to support these claims along with proof of the opposite
effect. There have been many studies that have tried to prove otherwise, but in the end most of them
show little proof of an actual effect.
Most evidence that tries to prove that violent games cause someone to be violent has been debunked
by other researchers. For example, a study required 32 people to play games for 15 minutes and after

The Times fiscal year for 2012, though, had 53 weeks compared to 2011, and that extra week fell in
the fourth quarter.
Excluding the additional week, according to the earnings release, estimated print and digital
advertising revenues decreased 10.2 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively, largely due to the uneven
economic environment, ongoing secular trends and an increasingly complex and fragmented digital
advertising marketplace.
Analysts don t expect print fortunes to improve this year as buyers, particularly the types of tony
national brands that contribute the lion s share of Times advertising dollars, continue moving to other
platforms.
The big picture for me is how well they can be a national and a global ad player, said Ken Doctor, a

Thompson.
On the bright side, even as the Times trims its newroom and other areas in an effort to save money (it

journalistic muscles atrophy to the extent of papers like The Los Angeles Times and The Baltimore

across the western shoreline of the lake. The Maroon Bells will present you with wonderful views as
you hike along the trail. At the end of the lake vista, a valley opens up. The western side of the valley
is filled with cascading waterfalls, which make this trail even more appealing. From the valley, the
trail is the going to follow a gentle grade, as it passes through the meadows, trees, and willow thickets.
The trail then takes you to a steep rockslide climb, and then spills over to the eastern side of the

Viable Alternative Energy For Replace Fossil Fuels
Viable Alternative Energy to Replace Fossil Fuels
Nauman Syed Zia
University of Houston
Nearly all of the United States production of energy comes from non renewable sources, also known
as fossil fuels. However, the problem with using fossil fuels to satisfy the United States ever growing
demand for power is that they are a limited resource and their production and usage cause a myriad of
harmful environmental effects. There are other sources of energy available that do not run out and are
much more environmentally friendly such as wind, solar and hydro power. The government should
take further action into transitioning from environmentally damaging non renewable fossil fuels to
cleaner and more permanent alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based of the origins of these fossil fuels, it is easy to see how incredibly slow the fossil fuel process is.
In fact, the process is so slow that regeneration is negligible. Continued use of these fossil fuels will
cause them to rapidly run out. Basically, when these fuels run out, they are gone forever. Its simply a
matter of time until the United States will need other sources of power, and it is a smart move to act
now on creating sustainable methods of energy rather than wait until the nation is forced to switch.
The attractive feature of using alternative energy such as wind, solar, and hydro power is the assurance
of renewability. There will always be naturally occurring winds, moving water, and radiation from the
sun that can be converted to energy. The United States government should invest its time and
resources into implementing these energy sources in order to secure sustainable energy. These
alternative energy sources are more environmentally appealing as they do not cause nearly as much
environmental damage that fossil fuels do. Aside from fossil fuel s long term non sustainability, the
United States should shift to renewable resources because of the detrimental effects fossil fuels pose to
the environment and people. The use of fossil fuels lead to an increase in air pollution, water
pollution, land pollution, and even global warming. During fossil fuel combustion, pollutants such as
carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides,

What is Love?
The idea of true love is a popular theme in Shakespeare s writings. In his play, Twelfth Night, Viola,
Olivia, and Orsino are all involved in a love triangle, but their love is not based on reality. In an
attempt to find a job as a servant, Viola disguises herself as a man, leading everyone to believe she
was someone she wasn t. The obsessive love and conflicts that arise in Twelfth Night are created from
the deception and lies amongst the characters, making us question Shakespeare s definition of love.
The deception starts with Viola disguising herself as a man by the name of Cesario. While her
intentions were harmless, her false identity won the heart of Olivia. Olivia ... Show more content on

Essences Of The Groundwork
This problem became the one of essences of the Groundwork,As Thomas hills argues that Kant s
aims in the groundwork are not primarily to illustrate how to apply his formulas to particular
problems, but to the basic presuppositions of practical reason, or to transform his research weight from
first critique to second critique. Since the question on emptiness charge must be taken on more
practical responses, it seems to me Kant has undoubtedly realized this and attempted to mingle the
theoretical and practical issues in Groundwork. For example in order to disentangle practical and
transcendental freedom, Kant introduces another doctrine in the third section of Groundwork. This
doctrine is essentially the same as one finds in the First Critique: ... Show more content on

Perhaps such absence is for some purpose. Considering that Kant s initial concern is to clarify the
problems of freedom rather than the particularities of the moral law, perhaps, given the synthesis of
the three formulations in the second section of the Groundwork, Kant might consider it unnecessary to
modify CI yet again. By the time of the Second Critique, he engages in a rather careful explication of
the moral law in which he does not offer a clear definition of the moral law, since it appears that
providing the theoretical ground for the moral law is

Ordinary People Movie Analysis
In the movie Ordinary People Conrad and his family struggle with their relationship with each other.
There are many arguments and fights between them and most of these are caused by a lack of
communication between one another. In an argument people use their natural instincts to react, and
this reaction is either a fight or a flight reaction. In this film both fight and flight is demonstrated with
each Conrad, Beth, and Calvin.
After the whole incident with Conrad s brother dieing Conrad hasn t been able to forgive himself for

It started off with Beth talking about them going on another vacation trip just like the one they were

just assumed that he was purposefully trying to start a fight with her. While Calvin didn t think about
it like that, he just felt that they should bring their son along with them next time. This argument
escalated very quickly into yelling at one another over many topics. This could have been prevented if
they communicated more with each other because Beth isn t comfortable with showing or talking

Van Gogh s The Courtesan An Image of Utopia
Beginning in the 1870s and extending into the 1900s, two major styles of art became prevalent in the
country of France; Impressionism and Post Impressionism. Impressionism resulted from the feelings
of chaos and instability from a major increase in population, showing scenes in a sketch like manner
through a portrayal of senses. By the mid 1880s, Post Impressionism emerged, causing a return from
the spontaneity that was missing traditional elements and explored expressing emotion while still
using formal elements. Vincent Van Gogh used the Post Impressionist influence of Japonisme, the

The main subject, the woman, was essentially copied and enlarged from a woodblock print by Keisai
Eisen featured on the cover of a popular magazine in France from May 1886. Though the background
of the garden scene does demonstrate some use of perspective, the main central image of the Japanese
woman remains very flat and one dimensional, a technique typical in wood block prints. The dark

The Physics Of Physical Therapy
The Physics in Physical Therapy Physical therapy has grown increasing more useful as the years
progress and more is learned about the human body and its movements, interactions, and mechanisms.
Someone may go to physical therapy for injury, recovery, in order to maintain function, or even due to
a stroke and is trying to work on walking again. Patients of a physical therapist can include, but is not
limited to, elderly, children, accident victims, athletes, those with conditions such as arthritis or
fractures, etc. The possibilities are endless for potential physical therapy patients (Mayo Clinic School
of Health Sciences). Physical therapy is the scientific physical procedures used in the treatment of
patients with a disability, disease, or injury to achieve and maintain function and to prevent
malfunction or deformity. One of the most important tasks that physical therapists perform is the
various forms of therapeutic exercise that are used to increase strength and endurance to improve
coordination and functional movement for activities of daily living and to increase and maintain range
of motion (APTA History). Some of the first known practices of physical therapy are from the early
Greek and Romans. They had writings that said both the sun and water were beneficial. The Chinese,
Persians, Egyptians, and Greeks said exercise and massage were beneficial. The first school of therapy
was established at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, D.C. after World War I

Genetically Engineered Crops Essays
Genetically Engineered Crops
Chemical and seed companies have been working the last several years to alter the genetic make up of
certain crops to combat heavy pressure from insects and weeds. Through genetic manipulation plant
breeders have been able to make certain crops resistant to different types of chemicals and insects.
Breeders can alter the crops by adding to a specific plant one or more genes from other related crops
with a known resistance to an insect or herbicide The use of genetically engineered crops has become
a hotly debated topic over the last couple of years. Environmentalists are concerned with how these
new crops will affect the environment. Farmers want to know how these crops will help them to

Roundup works by inhibiting enzymes essential to plant growth. By increasing the enzymes produced
in plants, the plant is unaffected by the herbicide (Monsanto Crossroads). With the insertion of the
Roundup resistant and Bt genes, the negative environmental impacts from agriculture can be reduced.
One way environmental damage can be reduced is by decreasing pesticide use. According to
Monsanto, Bollgard cotton, a variety resistant to bollworms, was used in 13% of the total cotton crop
in 1996. Sixty percent of those growers used no insecticide, most others only used one application.
This is compared to an average of 4 to 6 applications. The reduced applications saved a quarter million
gallons of insecticide. Monsanto has also developed potatoes with resistance to the Colorado potato
beetle. Farmers using this new variety reported eliminating 1 5 insecticide applications. The total
reduction in applications of insecticides was between 33% 42% over conventional methods (Biotech
Benefits).
By inserting the Bt gene into the plant cell, only the insects that are damaging the crop are killed.
Conversely, when the Bt gene is used in a pesticide spray many more insects that may have been
beneficial to the crop are killed (ESA Position Statement). By having insect resistance built in, farmers
can eliminate costly trips across the field needed to spray insecticides. Much like Bt corn,

Jack London Essay
Jack London, an American author known for his thrilling adventure stories, showed the world that
even an exciting story that takes place in exotic settings can include all the intricacies of great
literature. This is seen in many of his stories with the implementation of symbolism, many times a
recurring theme in his work. Also, London used many ideas of the day such as Darwinism and
Spencerism in his writings in order to better portray his views. However, perhaps one of the most
telling signs that London wrote good literature was through London s mastery of a rising literary
movement known as naturalism. As seen in multitude of London s works, symbolism plays a major
role in his writings. One of London s greatest works of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In To Build a Fire, a mysterious man, referred to as the man (Rhodes 1) in many literary critiques,
must survive a hump over the frozen tundra of the Klondike, and with him he takes his husky. The two
characters act as foils to each other, each experiencing the same situations as the other, but it is their
responses to the situations that show the difference between the two. For example, both the husky and
the man break through the ice and got their paws/feet wet: Suddenly it (the husky) broke through the
water that clung to it turned to ice (London 500) and then later the man broke through (the ice)
(London 501 502). It is the husky, however, that proved more adept to coping with the freezing
climate of the North, especially after having gotten wet in a freezing creek. Because of this innate
ability of the husky, he survived the ordeal whereas the man died of hypothermia after his fire, which
was meant to dry out his foot, was snuffed out by the Northern snow. It was as though he had heard
his own sentence of death. For a moment he sat there and stared at the spot where the fire had been
(London 503). It is this symbol of survival that is perhaps the most characteristic and recurring theme
in London s writings, known as Spencerism. Many ideas of the late 19th century and early 20th
century are apparent in London s writing, chief among them being his belief in Spencerism. This was
an idea created by

Gas Price Elasticity Essay examples
Gas Price Elasticity
The Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy began tracking weekly gasoline
prices in 1990 by means of a survey of 800 service stations around the country. The average retail
price for unleaded gasoline posted its fourth record high during the week of June 12, 2000, increasing
5 cents a gallon to an average of $1.681. The price at the pump is higher than the same period last year
by 56 cents and has risen 16.2 cents over the past month (Anonymous, 2000).
How far will it rise? What will consumers do about the dramatic increases that are occurring with the

The oil producing nations in the Mideast currently are meeting to discuss increasing production so that
crude prices will decline from its current price of more than $30 a barrel to the region of $25 (Georgy,
2000).
The American Petroleum Institute reports that 32.6 percent of the final cost to the consumer is the
refiner s share that covers the cost of refining and provides the oil companies with their profit
(Brodrick, 2000a). The government s share is greater, however. quot;Taxes account for 37.4 percent of
gasoline costs and averaged 41.5 cents per gallon in 1999, according to the institute. The federal
government s share is 18.4 cents, and the state takes about 23 cents. Occasionally, local municipalities
tack on an extra tax quot; (Brodrick, 2000a; p. 000215b).
The price is further affected by locale. The Midwest typically is one of the highest priced regions in
the nation because it is the most difficult section for transportation. Distance from refineries is
prohibitive, and refineries are saying that the current high prices in the region have resulted from
problems with using a pipeline that eases transportation costs.
The retailer s price increase to the final consumer is between 4 and 8 cents a gallon, meaning that
there is little option for the consumer to shop on price. Further, consolidation has been active in oil as
in other industries. A different brand name does not signify that the gasoline is being sold by

George Washington s Influence On The American
GEORGE WASHINGTON

It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company. That quote was said by one of the best and the

On February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, our 1st President Of The United States Of
America was born. He was a great student in school with good grades and basically never got into

George had no kids. When he married his wife Martha Washington she already had kids from her first

The new United States adopted the Articles of Confederation, but its founders realized the necessity to
draft a new document as their Constitution. A convention was held and Washington presided and was
very involved in the process. After much heated debate, on several occasions almost forcing the
convention to be adjourned, the delegates ratified the United States Constitution. Washington was
elected president of the United States on February 4, 1789. John Adams of Massachusetts was elected
vice president. In April Washington took the office in New York City, where the seat of government
was still provisionally maintained. Washington supported adding a Bill of Rights to the original
Constitution to specify the rights of individual citizens, but he opposed attempts to eliminate Congress
s power to regulate commerce with foreign nations and among the states. To Washington these
provisions formed the basis of fiscal stability and solid national credit. He supported Alexander
Hamilton s proposal for a national bank, and appointed Hamilton to his cabinet, along with Thomas

Texas Voting History
The Lone Star State: Reliably Republican
Leslie C. Lee
Liberty University
Abstract
In 2012 President Obama spoke to a group of people at a fund raiser event in Texas and seemed
optimistic that Texas would soon be a battleground for the Democratic Party (Parker, 2013). Unless
Democrats possess an extraordinary strategic plan this could prove to be a challenging task to
accomplish. Recent voting in Texas has faithfully been favorable toward the Republican ticket for
over 30 years (Parker, 2013). There has been a widespread margin in the percentage of votes between
Republican and Democratic candidates in the last four presidential elections. Currently Republicans
occupy all elected statewide offices, both state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the most recent 2012 presidential election; Romney (R) received 57.2 % while Obama (D) received
41.4% (Texas Political Almanac, 2013).
It is important to note that Although the two major national parties have dominated electoral politics in
the state; Texas also has spawned significant third parties that have affected national politics (Texas
Politics, 2013). The Reform party, founded by billionaire Ross Perot in the 1990 s, has gained support
with a small number of Texas voters. The Libertarian and Green Parties have experienced growth in
Texas (Texas Politics, 2013). The candidates from these parties have affected races statewide by
almost 20%. In the 2012 presidential election both the Libertarian and Green Party qualified for the
2012 ballot and resulted in receiving almost 2% of the Texas vote (Texas Politics, 2013). However, in
the 2012 elections, Republicans reigned in victory with the Democrats only able to gain a few seats. In
the 2013 legislative session, Democrats sit in 55 seats in relation to the 95 seats held by Republicans
(Texas Politics, 2013).

Theme Of Honor In Henry IV
Honor is a prominent theme in William Shakespeare s play Henry IV. The concept of honor
continuously surfaces and is questioned throughout the play. It s made evident that honor is subjective;
Every character has their own definition of it. Shakespeare doesn t discern a concrete definition of
honor, it s perceived in various ways by the characters in the play. It s a reflection of the character s
conscience and morality. Some relate it to noble behavior a, while others, associate it with one s
physical capabilities and achieving glory on the battlefield. The play manifests that honor can be
perceived as tangible, rather than a concept. Honor is mentioned for the first time by King Henry,
when he praises Hotspur after he defeats Douglas in the battle Holmedon. Henry states In this passage,
he is referring to Earl of Douglas demise. He mentions that Hotspur has taken Douglas son Mordake,
the Earl of Fife; and the Earls of Athol, Murray, Angus, and Menteith prisoner. Harry brags to his
kinsman about what an honorable and impressive catch it was, as if Hotspur was his son. The text can
be interpreted as King Henry seeking validation for his claim. In the way he says, Is not this an
honorable spoil? A gallant prize? Ha, cousin, is it not? repeatedly asking his kinsmen if Hotspur s act
was an honorable one. As if he s trying to convince everyone of what an honorable man should be.
Asking, Here, he speaks of how envious it makes him that the Percy s have such an honorable son

The Effects Of Hormones On The Body s Central Glucocorticoid
Upon activation by an emotional or physical stressor, corticotropic releasing hormone (CRH) is
released from the paraventricular cells of the hypothalamus and exerts its effect on the anterior
pituitary gland Here, CRH stimulates the synthesis of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and its
release into the bloodstream [19,20]. In turn, ACTH acts on receptors of the adrenal cortex to
stimulate the synthesis and release of cortisol [19,20]. Also known as the body s stress hormone ,
cortisol travels through the blood in both protein bound (inactive) and free (active) forms. Cortisol can
act to limit its own synthesis via a negative feedback mechanism to the hypothalamus and pituitary
gland [19,20]. Upon reaching a target cell, free cortisol diffuses through the cell membrane to bind to
the cytoplasmic glucocorti coid receptor [19,20]. This ligand receptor complex translocates to the
nucleus where it binds glucocorticoid response elements to affect transcription of target genes [19,20].
As our body s central glucocorticoid, cortisol has many actions. These include gluconeogenesis,
lipolysis, modulating the immune system, increase of blood pressure and insulin resistance [19,20].
Cortisol is metabolized by 11 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 to its inactive form, cortisone
[19,20 GOW
Stress can be broadly defined as any stimulus that disrupts homeostasis, with the stress response
referring to physiological and behavioral reactions to such a stimulus (Selye, 1950). It

Introduction
Bharti Airtel Limited was very keen to enter the African markets and the organization took
considerable time to find an indigenous partner who was willing to facilitate its entry into African
territory. Having previously gone through unsuccessful rounds of negotiations with MTN Group
Limited, one could say that when Bharti Airtel identified Zain Africa as a potential target for

We expect special tariff/data plans for connecting Indians in India and Africa, like those offered
previously for the Middle East and USA, considering increased migration from India to Africa and
increasing competition in Africa for greater share of the huge subscriber base.
As the next step, Bharti needs to negotiate a venture like the Indus Towers with Vodafone and MTN to
attain targeted EBITDA margins.

Direction and Concentration Gradients
Direction and concentration gradients Bradley Benton ABSTRACT In this experiment, we will
investigate the effect of solute concentration on osmosis. A semi‐permeable membrane (dialysis
tubing) and sucrose will create an osmotic environment similar to that of a cell. Using different
concentrations of sucrose (which is unable to cross the membrane) will allow us to examine the net
movement of water across the membrane. INTRODUCTION A major determinant of diffusion in a
biological system is membrane permeability. Small, uncharged molecules pass through cellular
membranes easily, while most and/or charged molecules cannot pass through the membrane. The
movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane, like the plasma membrane ... Show

Using the graduated cylinder, measure 20mLs of the stock sucrose solution and 180mL of water to
create a 3% sucrose solution and place it into the 250mL beaker (beaker #2). Place bags #1‐3 (red,
blue, yellow) into beaker 2 and bag #4 (green) into beaker 1. Allow the bags to sit for one hour. After
allowing the bags to sit for one hour, remove them from the beakers carefully open the bags, noting
that often times the tops may need to be cut as they tend to dry out. Measure the solution volumes of
each dialysis bag using the empty 250 ml beaker. RESULTS INITIAL VOLUME | SUCROSE % |
PREDICTION | FINAL VOLUME | BAG #1 10mL | 30 | No water will move | 10 mL | BAG #2 10mL
| 30 | No water will move | 7 mL | BAG #3 10mL | 30 | Water will move out | 0 mL | BAG #4 10mL | 3
| Water will move in | 10 mL | | | | | CONCLUSION In this lab we found out that the dialysis bag
contained more fluids inside it. This can happen because sucrose is small enough to pass through the
selectively permeable membrane. Some errors that might have been encountered during the lab could
have been the fact that some of the dialysis bags were not tightly tied with the dental floss, or that the
wrong substance was used. Another possible source of error was if the carrot strips had been
dehydrated from the beginning of the experiment or were already

Indian Ocean Continuities
Commerce in the Indian Ocean region was transformed between the years 650 CE and 1750 CE.
Multiple changes, as well as continuities shaped the Indian Ocean commercial trade, including the

Joethelberht Research Paper
The eighth century monk Bede, in his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, lists Æthelberht as
the third king to hold imperium over other Anglo Saxon kingdoms. In the late ninth century Anglo
Saxon Chronicle Æthelberht is referred to as a bretwalda, or Britain ruler . He was the first English
king to convert to Christianity.
Æthelberht was the son of Eormenric, succeeding him as king, according to the Chronicle. He married
Bertha, the Christian daughter of Charibert, king of the Franks, thus building an alliance with the most
powerful state in contemporary Western Europe; the marriage probably took place before Æthelberht
came to the throne. The influence of Bertha may have led to the decision by Pope Gregory I to send
Augustine as a missionary from Rome. Augustine landed on the Isle of Thanet in east Kent in 597.
Shortly thereafter, Æthelberht converted to Christianity, churches were established, and wider scale
conversion to Christianity began in the kingdom. Æthelberht provided the new church with land in
Canterbury, thus establishing one of the foundation stones of what ultimately became the Anglican
Communion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the more popular options when it comes to purifying air. Whether you buy your pure essential oils or
use homegrown herbs to make your own, it works. If you want to create your own blend ideal to
purify your air consider this combination: three drops each of sweet orange and pine, plus two drops
each of clove bud and cinnamon leaf. It s as easy as can be. You can leave it running until the chamber
is empty once a day, or more often if you feel the need. If you have children you will want to be sure
to choose an essential oil that is safe for them to breathe. 4. Herbal Air Freshener An herbal air
freshener is an excellent way to reduce the airborne viruses floating about your home. It s much like
the diffusion blend and the cleaning spray combined. You can spray them on your clothing and/or on
your sheets and pillowcases before bedtime or in the air and on the furniture. It s basically homemade

  • 2. Isolation In A Rose For Emily And Big Two Hearted River In American literature, no two authors other than William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway effected the literary scene more since Mark Twain. Both Hemingway and Faulkner were Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize winners, and gammerd the world s affection. Faulkner s gem of a story, A Rose for Emily and Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River both deal with the theme of isolation, but have different internal mechanisms that advance the story. Faulkner and his use of eloquent word choice, as well as a profound influence of Southern local color gives the effect of a Michelangelo s painting where detail is so prevalent, the reader has a myriad of options on what individual details to value. He paints a picture in A Rose for Emily about a woman who grows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it is going camping over Memorial Day weekend, or spending Saturday night in, all can relate to their actions. Emily seems as if she is living up to her family s expectations of her, while Nick has no pressure on him. The fear inside of both them is also astounding. Emily was so afraid of being left alone, that she murdered the only love interest in her life, and made him stay with her, via his dead body in the upstairs bedroom. Nick is also recovering from the experiences of World war One, and no form of treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has been discovered yet. He is a young man trying to find himself, but rather than taking a giant road trip after his senior year, he is alone in the forest. The way he is living in the forest is interesting, with him being self sufficient and fishing for his dinner, he is again refusing society, and is falling deeper with in ... • 3. Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer is about a girl who is caught in a situation in which her father attempts to bribe her to do something immoral. One message suggested in this story is how misdirection and trickery can negatively affect relationships between a parent and their child. Throughout the course of the story, the father of the main character is shown feeding his daughter, Ashes, an endless string of compliments such as You re one in a million . He gives her many words of positive reinforcement to try and persuade her to steal money from her mother. He needs this money to pay back some guys, whom of which are after him. He claims that he will pay her back. This strengthens the argument that false claims can negatively affect relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As seen in this quote, Ashes father is misdirecting her by sneakily telling her that she made a good decision to offer to help him steal the money. This evidence clearly represents how Ashes father is misleading her with lies and it will most likely reflect in their relationship negatively. A third scene that reflects the idea that manipulation can negatively affect the relationship between a child and their parent is when the story quotes Am I really? I ask, not needing the reassurance. I knew I wasn t a million in one girl,no matter how often Dad told me I was. I still loved hearing him say it. This proves that Ashes appreciates her father s compliments and people generally respond comliently to things they appreciate, so her father understands that complimenting her will be a good persuasion method. When all of this evidence is put together,it is easy to comprehend that manipulation can very easily negatively affect relation between a parent and child. The compliments were told by Ashes father to get what he wanted; money. All of the compliments Ashes father gave to her are doubted by her but nonetheless greeted by open ears. These examples prove that Ashes father was trying to get her to steal her mother s money using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Evolution of Nursing THE EVOLUTION OF NURSING Nursing is a profession that can be recalled and accounted for since prehistoric times to now it has since come a long way. In fact in earlier times nursing was only a practice reserved for men. The first nursing school was established in India in about 250 B.C., and only men were permitted to attend because men were viewed to be more pure than women, until the 1800 s when nursing became an organized practice. Should one embark on a research about the history of nursing one would gather a lot of information, both interesting and controversial. However our group did in fact embark on a research on the history of nursing or should I say the evolution of nursing. We realized that as time went by the definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the period of apprentice nursing there was a Dark Period which extends from the 17th 19th century. Nursing became the work of the less desirable women; these women took bribes from patients, stole patients food and used alcohol as tranquilizers. At this time no provision were made for the sick and no one took care of the sick. Following this period Modern Nursing was introduced by Florence Nightingale who saw the need for development in nursing. Modern Nursing is similar to what has been done for years. However the nurses responsibilities is of greater demands because of the advancement that was incorporated over the years, but rest assured the patients need is still at the forefront. The Period of Modern Nursing began on the 15th of June 1860 when Florence Nightingale School of Nursing opened in St. Thomas Hospital in London. Florence Nightingale (1820 1910) is the founder of Modern Nursing. She followed her Christian divine calling and committed herself to Nursing, caring for others especially poor people. She also dedicated her life to care for the sick and war wounded victims. In 1844 Florence Nightingale began visiting hospitals. • 6. Wieel Wiesel Reflection In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, I looked at my house in which I had spent years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty. (Wiesel 15) This passage really caught my attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he s saying that, as hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder and harder to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting because it gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were leaving everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them. Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage, The race to death had begun. (Wiesel 10) as an important style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from Sighet. I think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the text because, it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the use of personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they all have. While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, He was poor and lived in utter penury. (Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this ... This paper will explore the details surrounding the trial of Socrates and whether or not he was treated fairly throughout the sentencing process. In The Apology of Socrates, Plato describes the charges against Socrates as not believing in the gods recognized by the state, introducing supernatural beings, and corrupting the youth (246. 9 12). By considering Socrates impiety, internal betrayal of the city, and arrogance and hypocritical words, it should be understood that the Athenians were just in their verdict and punishment of Socrates. • 8. Formative Vs. Summative Assessment Formative vs. Summative Assessment In today s schools, teachers are trying to decide which form of assessment, formative or summative, is a better measure of student s abilities. Teachers are constantly pressured to make sure their students are doing well on state wide assessments, therefore, making sure their students have the skills they need to succeed on these tests is extremely important. Formative assessment gives the student and teacher feedback as the information is gathered (Cotton, 2017). Where summative assessments are better for capturing the amount of material learned and the quality of learning at the end of a large unit or amount of information (Dixson and Worrell 2016). Teachers are on the warpath researching which method is the most effective way of assessing students. In the article Formative and Summative Assessment in the Classroom , the authors Dixson and Worrell discuss the differences between formative and summative assessment (2016). They explain that the goal of formative assessment is to guide instruction and summative assessment is more intended to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowing when to use each is imperative to the success of students. It is the teacher s job to decide when to use each of the types and subtypes of assessments. Through the research presented in this literature it has been found that formative assessment is a more helpful form of guiding instruction. Summative assessment is used to see what students know about a particular topic at a particular time, such as a cumulative exam. Students and teachers alike feel the pressure that high stakes testing can bring. Teachers make all the difference when it comes to testing. • 9. The Dangers Of Chemical Weapons Chemical weapons are one of the most devastating and lethal weapons ever created by humankind; they have caused massive destruction since their introduction in World War One and still wreak havoc on today s battlefields. Chemical weapons continue to be used all over the world on battlefields and against civilian populations, unfortunately, very little has been done by the international community to prohibit chemical weapons as only three international treaties have been created with the aim to prohibit the manufacture and use of chemical weapons. As a result, the worsening problem of production and deployment of chemical weapons proves that earlier conventions have failed and new, stronger, conventions must be made by the international community to prohibit further use of chemical weapons. Chemical weapons are known to be one of the most dangerous weapons ever created, but the general population is unaware of what a chemical weapon is and why it is dangerous, this is one of the major reason why not enough has been done to prohibit chemical weapons. The Chemical Weapons Convention defines chemical weapons as toxic chemicals contained in a delivery system such as a bomb or a shell, that causes death, injury, incapacitation or sensory harm. The effects of chemical weapons make it very dangerous and are one of the reasons it is still used after one hundred years since its introduction. Chemical weapons have been used in Syria and Israel unfortunately against civilian targets with lethal repercussions. Regrettably, Syria and Israel are not the only countries in the world to have chemical weapons. An estimate by the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs explains that the top twenty countries with the largest armed forces have chemical weapons stockpiles, with Russia and the United States of America possessing about seventy thousand metric tonnes of chemical agent. If the international community continues to ignore the major issue of chemical weapons, the world is still at risk if countries continue to keep their very large stockpiles of lethal chemical weapons. Another major reason for the prevalence chemical weapons have today is because many individuals are not aware of the scale of damage chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today divorce is looked at as another chance to happiness. During the 1950s, divorce was based on what a spouse did wrong. The spouse had to prove the other spouse of being guilty of committing a marital offense. There was a strong belief at the time that children from broken homes were at the risk of school failure, delinquency, and psychological disorders (Jolivet, 2009). Viable Alternative Energy For Replace Fossil Fuels Viable Alternative Energy to Replace Fossil Fuels Nauman Syed Zia University of Houston Nearly all of the United States production of energy comes from non renewable sources, also known as fossil fuels. However, the problem with using fossil fuels to satisfy the United States ever growing demand for power is that they are a limited resource and their production and usage cause a myriad of harmful environmental effects. There are other sources of energy available that do not run out and are much more environmentally friendly such as wind, solar and hydro power. The government should take further action into transitioning from environmentally damaging non renewable fossil fuels to cleaner and more permanent alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based of the origins of these fossil fuels, it is easy to see how incredibly slow the fossil fuel process is. In fact, the process is so slow that regeneration is negligible. Continued use of these fossil fuels will cause them to rapidly run out. Basically, when these fuels run out, they are gone forever. Its simply a matter of time until the United States will need other sources of power, and it is a smart move to act now on creating sustainable methods of energy rather than wait until the nation is forced to switch. The attractive feature of using alternative energy such as wind, solar, and hydro power is the assurance of renewability. There will always be naturally occurring winds, moving water, and radiation from the sun that can be converted to energy. The United States government should invest its time and resources into implementing these energy sources in order to secure sustainable energy. These alternative energy sources are more environmentally appealing as they do not cause nearly as much environmental damage that fossil fuels do. Aside from fossil fuel s long term non sustainability, the United States should shift to renewable resources because of the detrimental effects fossil fuels pose to the environment and people. The use of fossil fuels lead to an increase in air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, and even global warming. In his play, Twelfth Night, Viola, Olivia, and Orsino are all involved in a love triangle, but their love is not based on reality. In an attempt to find a job as a servant, Viola disguises herself as a man, leading everyone to believe she was someone she wasn t. The obsessive love and conflicts that arise in Twelfth Night are created from the deception and lies amongst the characters, making us question Shakespeare s definition of love. The two characters act as foils to each other, each experiencing the same situations as the other, but it is their responses to the situations that show the difference between the two. For example, both the husky and the man break through the ice and got their paws/feet wet: Suddenly it (the husky) broke through the water that clung to it turned to ice (London 500) and then later the man broke through (the ice) (London 501 502). It s made evident that honor is subjective; Every character has their own definition of it. Some relate it to noble behavior a, while others, associate it with one s physical capabilities and achieving glory on the battlefield. The Effects Of Hormones On The Body s Central Glucocorticoid Upon activation by an emotional or physical stressor, corticotropic releasing hormone (CRH) is released from the paraventricular cells of the hypothalamus and exerts its effect on the anterior pituitary gland Here, CRH stimulates the synthesis of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and its release into the bloodstream [19,20]. In turn, ACTH acts on receptors of the adrenal cortex to stimulate the synthesis and release of cortisol [19,20]. Also known as the body s stress hormone , cortisol travels through the blood in both protein bound (inactive) and free (active) forms. Cortisol can act to limit its own synthesis via a negative feedback mechanism to the hypothalamus and pituitary gland [19,20]. Upon reaching a target cell, free cortisol diffuses through the cell membrane to bind to the cytoplasmic glucocorti coid receptor [19,20]. This ligand receptor complex translocates to the nucleus where it binds glucocorticoid response elements to affect transcription of target genes [19,20]. As our body s central glucocorticoid, cortisol has many actions. These include gluconeogenesis, lipolysis, modulating the immune system, increase of blood pressure and insulin resistance [19,20]. Cortisol is metabolized by 11 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 to its inactive form, cortisone [19,20 GOW Stress can be broadly defined as any stimulus that disrupts homeostasis, with the stress response referring to physiological and behavioral reactions to such a stimulus (Selye, 1950).
