Risk Factors Associated With Opioid Use (CITE)
Introduction Dysphoria, formication, anxiety, depression, insomnia and inability to focus on tasks are
just some of the many symptoms associated with withdrawing from opiates. Opiates, originally
derived from opium plants, have been used medicinally as early as 3400 B.C. Presently, opioids are
used to relive pain as they have been shown to aid in decreasing the severity of pain signals moving to
the brain. However, long term usage can lead to psychological dependence and neurological changes
in the body (Pregolizzi, 2012; Jamison, Butler, Budman, Edwards Wasan, 2010). As of 2013 opioids
were one of the most commonly abused drug in America, second only to marijuana. There have were

Critical Success Factors For An Organization
Critical Success Factors The critical success factors for an organization will aid the development of
the organizations success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2016, p. 10). These factors assist the
organization to measure the internal and external processes of the organization (p. 10). The critical
success factors will determine the financial and nonfinancial factors that will assist the organization to
remain competitive in the market place (p. 10). The critical success factors are the measures in the
balanced score card that will assist the business meet their goals strategically (p. 11). The balanced
score card will assist the business to make continuous improvements to the organization (Hicks, 2010,
p. 3). The factors will assist management to engage the appropriate changes to meet the changing
competitive environment (p. 3). This will ensure that the plans for the future of a business will ensure
the long term success of the business when applied appropriately (p. 3). The critical success factors
derive from the SWOT analysis that provide measurable goals to the organization (p. 3). The factors
selected for this research derive from interviews with the officer in charge of the enlisted basic supply
section, Bryan Harding. The SWOT topics are the basis of the internal and external processes that

Anaerobic Pond in Wastewater Treatment
DEFINITION ANAEROBIC POND Anaerobic ponds are deep treatment ponds that exclude oxygen
and encourage the growth of bacteria, which break down the effluent. It is in the anaerobic pond that
the effluent begins breaking down in the absence of oxygen anaerobically . The anaerobic pond acts
like an uncovered septic tank. Anaerobic bacteria break down the organic matter in the effluent,
releasing methane and carbon dioxide. Sludge is deposited on the bottom and a crust forms on the
surface as show in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Operation of the Anaerobic Pond. Anaerobic ponds are commonly 2 5
m deep and receive such a high organic loading (usually gt;100g BOD/m3 d equivalent to gt;3000
kg/ha/d for a depth of 3 m). They contain an organic loading that is ... Show more content on

The biochemical reactions that take place in anaerobic ponds are the same as those occurring in
anaerobic digesters, with a first phase of acidogenesis and a second slower rate of methanogenesis.
Ambient temperatures in hot climate countries are conducive to these anaerobic reactions and
expected BOD5 removals for different retention times in treating sewage have been given by Mara
(1976) as shown in Table 2. More recently, Gambrill et al. (1986) have suggested conservative
removals of BOD5 in anaerobic ponds as 40% below 10°C, at a design loading of 100 g/m3d, and
60% above 20°C, at a design loading of 300 g/m3d, with linear interpolation for operating temperature
between 10 and 20°C. Higher removal rates are possible with industrial wastes, particularly those
containing significant quantities of organic settleable solids. Of course, other environmental
conditions in the ponds, particularly pH, must be suitable for the anaerobic microorganisms bringing
about the breakdown of BOD. Table 2. BOD removals in Anaerobic Ponds loaded at 250 g (Mara
1976) BOD5/m3d. Retention Time (days) | BOD5 removal % | 1 | 50 | 2.5 | 60 | 5 | 70 | Anaerobic
ponds are normally designed on the basis of a temperature dependent empirical value for the
permissible organic loading rate. Land requirements will be lowest if the maximum possible BOD
loading can be applied. The upper limit of the volumetric BOD loading is determined by odor
emissions and minimum pH threshold value at which

Nat Hocken
Synopsis The story begins on the third day of December, after the wind changed overnight and
brought winter with it. Nat Hocken, the protagonist, who because of a war time disability, had a
pension and did not work full time at the farm (Maurier 1). Nat used to watch the birds on the cliff s
edge during midday. But that fall, he had noticed something different in the birds; there were more
birds than usual and they were restless, maybe because they sensed that the winter was going to be a
hard one. That night, Nat hears a tapping on the window and goes to inquire, and a bird tries to get
inside grazing his knuckles in the process but flies away soon. Sometime later, the tapping starts
again, but this time more insistent. He goes to the window to check for a second time but is ... Show

They hear gun fire from an airplane while they are gathered in the kitchen, but soon enough, even the
plane crashes out into the sea. The birds break in in one of the bedrooms and heaps of blackened
bodies of birds fall from the chimney but luckily no one is hurt. Nat figures out that the birds attack
when the tides turn. As the tapping and the rasping sounds at the window ceases, the family goes to
the farm for supplies. The land birds do not attack, but sit on the trees, waiting and watching. At the
farm, Nat finds the dead bodies of Jim, Mr. and Mrs. Trigg. He collects food, fuel and all the
necessities and leaves for his house with his family. He starts working on the doors, windows and the
chimney preparing for the next attack. When he looks out to the sea, he realizes that the tide has
turned again and the gulls have started rising. He barricades the door and goes inside the kitchen. The
attack starts again and the story ends with Nat smoking his last cigarette, throwing the empty pack in
the chimney fire and watching it

Second Largest Subgenre
These are the stories of heroes and villains, manipulation and deceit, and sex and betrayal. As the
second largest subgenre of detective fiction, the private investigator welcomes readers to peer into a
world of crime and violence. Unlike the glamour of the amateur detective where murders appear
delicately wrapped and topped with bows at the doorsteps of wealthy countryside estates, the acts that
take place in the private eye genre are ones committed with brutal and unrelenting violence in the
alleyways and side streets of a city suffering from a pandemic of corruption. The rise in fascination
with the private investigator subgenre parallels with the arrival of the Great Depression and the rise of
poverty and criminal activity. During this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Sonya Zhukovski s character appears more primal in her portrayal of the femme fatale, her
objectives are made more evident than those of Miss O Shaughnessy. Nonetheless, the Op responds to
Sonya s offer with a sense of morality and duty. You might as well expect a hound to play tiddly winks
with the fox he s just caught. Brigid s con game is just as lucrative, yet her character has evolved to be
more dangerously manipulative because of her emotional manipulation. However, just as the Op
resists the advances of the princess, Spade shuts down Brigid s plea for mercy. Expecting me to run
criminals down and then let them go free is like asking a dog to catch a rabbit and let it go, responds
Spade. The femme fatale s desire for a better life and greed for wealth is deadly and dangerous for
those who succumb to her lure, but the detective s desire for truth and maintain morals can be fatal for
the dark lady, too. As each woman s ultimate objective is to be free of financial burden and to acquire

With reference to the learning activities in Week 2, discuss the purpose and functions of the youth
justice system in England and Wales in terms of your own practice and experience.
Introduction
In this assignment I am going to discuss the purpose and functions of the Youth Justice System. I will
start by exploring the build up to the legislations that underpins the Youth Justice System which is the
Crime and Disorder Act 1998. I will also discuss the purpose and functions of Youth Justice System
and how my role contributes to their declared objectives. Finally I will conclude by indicating the
effectiveness of the Youth Justice System.

When assessing a young person s needs, I use The Scaled Approach framework Asset, created by the
YJB. Asset is a structured assessment; it provides a concise perception into the welfare of young
person, identifying needs and risk to the public and the probability of re offending. With this
information I am able to identify and address specific risk factors, creating effective intervention
programmes, building on protective factors. This contributes to the youth justice systems objective to
prevent the likelihood of re offending.
In order to create and deliver structured interventions tailored to individual needs, I provide young
people with a What Do You Think form (questions directed at their personal life) to gain an indication
of their views. I use a VARK (Visual/Aural/Read/Write/Kinaesthetic) questionnaire which helps me
identify their learning styles. For interventions to be effective and to reduce the likelihood re
offending, I build on protective factors such as interest s, hobbies and establishing future goals to help
young people focus on positive areas of their life.
Panel meetings allow me to incorporate the main aims of the Youth Justice System. Prior to the
meetings, I liaise with Victim Support to ascertain whether the victim or a representative would like to
participate in the process of restorative

The World Trade Center Memorial
World Trade Center Memorial The World Trade Center Memorial commemorates the September 11,
2001,attacks and the bombing that occurred at the World Trade Center in 1993. The memorial can be
found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in the
footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that were lost
that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that be sadness or
possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. The memorial was commissioned by Lower Manhattan
Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. An international

I don t care if Peter is described as this or that, he says. It s my design. The announcement of Michael
Arad s design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial. Daniel
Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad s design completely destroyed the vision he had for
the space. I will fight this! he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. I am the people
s architect! Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the whole site set
below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life of the city. His
opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the museum. That was only
the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction. Many victims groups
hated Arad s design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when underground instead of rising into
the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The idea of absence is common in counter
memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible events with a comprehensive memorial? A
primary solution to the problem has been the formalized absence given by deconstructivism. I think
the use of absences is what gives this memorial strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation s history,
therefore it should have an immense memorial. The reflecting pool mark the footprints of the north
and south towers that fell. Each are nearly an acre in

The Impacts Of The Cuban Embargo On Cuba
What is the Cuba embargo? Is a commercial, economic, and financial embargo imposed by the United
States on Cuba. The United States first imposed a trade embargo on Cuba on February 3, 1962, in
order to make things right with Castro s confiscation of privately owned properties and other
productive assets. The Cuban embargo was stablished with the purpose of establishing the embargo
against Cuba to reduce the threat imposed by Fidel Castro with the communist powers. While the
embargo was leading on, Castro remains strong and defiant. Castro refuses to allow true free market
reforms and rejects democratic political reforms no matter what. Besides, Castro is leading an
aggressive international campaign to get the embargo lifted brutally without ... Show more content on

Gasoline in Cuba is very scarce, and automobile transportation is not common, people go in bike or
walking either way than in an automobile. Animals are used for heavy agricultural activities. Over half
of Cuba s work force is now unemployed, although unemployment is officially a crime and is
punished with imprisonment.
Although the United States today stands firmly alone in maintaining the embargo, it must stand firm
no matter what, and more this days that Fidel Castro had died. Maintaining the embargo because Cuba
has not accomplished the conditions required to lift it until irreversible economic and political reforms
leading to democratic capitalism had taken place. The Cuban people must understand and act that it is
up only to them to solve the social, economic, and political crisis caused by the Castro regime. U.S.
taxpayers should no longer be engaging in to finance the costs of Castro s ceaseless tyranny.
The United States must not abandon by nothing the Cuban people by relaxing or lifting the trade
embargo against the communist regime because they have done nothing for why the United States
should lift it. Instead, the U.S. government must neglect all pressures to abandon the embargo until all
of the objectives for which it was imposed are achieved! Anything less would create a sad faith with
the Cuban people, who nowadays are among the very few people left in the world who still suffer
brutality of a communist

Essay on Evolution
Essay on Evolution
There are many mechanisms that lead to evolutionary change. One of the most important mechanism
in evolution is natural selection which is the differential success in the reproduction of different
phenotypes resulting from the interaction of organisms with their environment. Natural selection
occurs when a environment makes a individual adapt to that certain environment by variations that
arise by mutation and genetic recombination. Also it favors certain traits in a individual than other
traits so that these favored traits will be presented in the next generation. Another mechanism of
evolution is genetic drift. Genetic drift is a random change in a small gene pool due to sampling errors
in propagation of alleles or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some bacteria had genes that coded for enzymes that specifically destroyed certain antibiotics such as
ampicillin. From this incident, scientists were able to deduce that natural selection helped the bacteria
to inherit the genes for antibiotic resistance. Scientists have also been able to use biochemistry as a
source of evidence. The comparison of genes of two species is the most direct measure of common
inheritance from shared ancestors. Using DNA DNA hybridization, whole genomes can be compared
by measuring the extent of hydrogen bonding between single stranded DNA obtained from two
sources. The similarity of the two genes can be seen by how tightly the DNA of one specie bonds to
the DNA of the other specie. Many taxonomic debates have been answered using this method such as
whether flamingos are more closely related to storks or geese. This method compared the DNA of the
flamingo to be more closely related to the DNA of the stork than the geese. The only disadvantage of
this method is that it does not give precise information about the matchup in specific nucleotide
sequences of the DNA which restriction mapping does. This technique uses restriction enzymes that
recognizes a specific sequence of a few nucleotides and cleaves DNA wherever such sequences are
found in the genome. Then the DNA fragments are separated by electrophoresis and compared to

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay
Gypsies in the Czech Republic
The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their
arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and
other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the
Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not
officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of
Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end
their ethnic marginilization. Though, due to historical circumstances dating back before communism
this has been a tough task ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of
permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving.
Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to
the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon
began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in
the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in
society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to
destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many
Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country
(Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the
rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive
aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were
shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children
were instructed in the Christian religion. While many of these policies worked they were not regularly

Public Broadcasting in the Article “Moving beyond the...
In their article Moving beyond the Vast Wasteland , Laurie Ouellette and Justin Lewis critique how
public broadcasting functions in the US. Liberal reformers hold to the view that television needs
protection from commercialism. The liberal reformer view contains cultural and class hierarchies.
They believe that public television is for the white, college educated middle class viewer who has
cultural capital (Ouellette Lewis, 96). As a result, funding for public broadcasting has gone primarily
towards high culture and intellectual programs and not sitcoms or other popular forms of television.
Ouellette and Lewis disagree with this, saying that these types of high brow programming are not the
only ones worthy of public investment. Instead, they argue that popular programs that are being
commercially maintained also merit public support and investment (96). Rather than reserving public
broadcasting for more educational programming, the authors argue that there is a more progressive
solution that can incorporate popular media forms while still veering away from commercialization.
Thus far, pubic television has failed to adopt popular media forms. Public television stations such as
PBS failed to attract larger and more diverse audiences because they kept their programming
intellectual and dull rather than building on popular aspects of television culture. Ouellette and Lewis
argue that PBS could have incorporated sitcoms, soaps, and sports into their programming and then

Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County
Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters San Juan County.
It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La Sal mountain range towards the
east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of
millions of years of erosion on a landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive
landscape is covered with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The
potholes throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that progressively
collect rainwater and wind blown sediment which gradually erode the underlying rock; leaving a
series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor. Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion,
and climatic shifts allow for this immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which
has taken place for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of
alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks. Interchanging
slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of rock which can be seen fully exposed
in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian,
Triassic and Jurassic time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by
varying levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years, geologic

The Fascination Of War Literature
War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no
rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My
fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in
the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when
they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when
they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again.
One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because
as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of
telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a
story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the
trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their
trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because
of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a
solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how
hard it might have been for the person to talk

Most types of businesses will often send a newsletter via email. A link to a flip book or catalog can be

One interesting aspect about blurb advertising is creating a document that can easily be viewed using a

Worldview Reflection Paper
I thought there were a lot of good points made in the first video. The main point however, that I want
to hit on, is the point that morality is relative. I thought the panel in the video did a great job pointing
out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the person you are
going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each other. If this kind of
thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos in how our judicial
structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute moral guidance for there
to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really enjoyed the second video as well
and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian worldview really was. Out of that video I
was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the importance of having a Christian worldview.
Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some kind. This worldview determines how a person
thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the Christian worldview is God himself. Everything
begins, ends, and is centered on God and his character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on
the mankind and filtered that way, but rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this
worldview is imperative to have among believers and it is important that we check our minds and our
hearts to make sure that our worldview aligns itself with the truth of God s word. I

Comparing Everyday Use By Alice Walker And Two Kinds By...
Society today often stereotypes people into groups by things such as age, gender, cultural background,
ethnicity, income and so on. In both short stories, Everyday Use , written by Alice Walker and Two
Kinds , composed by Amy Tan, three major factors of the mothers stood out, which allowed me to
compare one story to the other. The factors that set Jing Mei s (June) mother, Suyuan apart from
Maggie s mother, Mama were power, class and status.
First, in the short story Two Kinds , Amy Tan describes Jing Mei s mother, Suyuan as a middle aged
Chinese women who had an extremely difficult life in China causing her lose everything and everyone
dear to her. Hoping for a new beginning and for a better life and future for her and her daughter Jing
Mei, she fled the country to live in America. Being a middle class chinese immigrant, Suyuan worked

Suyuan had very high expectations and envisions of what she felt Jing Mei should become in order to
make make it in America. Suyuan became obsessed with the fact that she could give her daughter the
chance to experience the american dream; which in result caused her to start to compare Jing Mei to
Waverly, the daughter of her friend, who coincidentally was a chess prodigy. Suyuan did everything in
her capability to give Jing Mei the opportunity to become an excellent pianist. Jing Mei s mother
offered to clean the house of a retired piano teacher, Mr. Chong, in exchange for piano lessons for Jing
Mei. Everyday, Suyuan pressured Jing Mei to practice the piano even though Jing Mei had no interest.

A Long Journey
Ever since I graduated from high school, I look back on my childhood, and I can conclude that my
childhood is filled with a lot of exciting events. Field trips, receiving many awards, making friends
and participating in many sports are the highlights of my childhood. The first day of school can be
frightening, I was scared because I didn t know what to think about school.. This is how I felt about
my first day of 1st grade, but I was introduced to my homeroom teacher and that soon made me feel a

but we didn t win the game. Each semester I received excellent grades and that put me on the honor

I walked through the long the hallways at Summit High School. The high school was a lot bigger than

Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United...
By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without
having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory Coleman
Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In
contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low
availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America.
Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade,
Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food
insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low
food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of food and
do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A
recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in
America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step
lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity.
Marginal food security involves homes who sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in
the house, but the quality, variety, and quantity of their food intake are not lowered (Gregory

Introduction
Home Depot is one of the few businesses that come to mind when thinking about home improvement
and do it yourself projects. But, it is not necessarily the first one that comes to mind considering its
competitors like Lowe s, Ace Hardware, or True Value. In 1978 when Home Depot was founded by
Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank its growth seemed unstoppable. This is most evident by looking at
financials of the organization, in 1981 stock options were opened to the public and by 1984 Home
Depot was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (The Home Depot: Investor Relations). In 2000,
cofounders Marcus and Blank retired and at this time the decision was made to bring in Bob ... Show

Once Nardelli turned his attention to cutting costs the problems became apparent, especially when the
workforce was drastically changed as Nardelli made the decision to cut costs by eliminating higher
paid employees and replacing them with less experienced and cheaper employees (Brown, 2011).
Members of the organization began to lose the sense of ownership that created the unique culture of
Home Depot. As a result customer service and satisfaction began to decline since there were no longer
experts to give tips and technical explanations to the Do It Yourself (DIY) customer base. Managers
were no longer given free reign to manage the store as they felt was appropriate to the location, and
instead now had numbers and quotas corporate expected them meet. Managers were no longer in
control of ordering inventory which resulted in many stores having product that was not being
purchased as it was ill suited to consumer demand. According to Brown (2011) in 2007 Bob Nardelli
refused to take a pay cut and left Home Depot to move on to Cerberus Capital Management (which he
later left in 2009 after they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection). In 2014, Home Depot decided to
promote from within and executive vice president Craig Menear became president and CEO (Home

among other smaller roles in divisional areas. Of the different

Racial Differences In Ta-Nehisi Coates s Sonny s Blues
In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehisi Coates depicts how an African American man should behave
in America based on other people s perception of their race. In the essay, he speaks to his son about
how a black man is obligated to be twice as good and how a black man takes responsibility for another
black man. Coates highlights the expectations of black people and the struggle to go beyond what
society has labeled them as because of their differences in skin color and the stereotypes that the
majority has perceived them as. In relation to social differences, James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues,
expresses how differences in livelihood metal in between relationships and growth. The narrator in the
story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother, Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that
his students have more a chance to end up like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their
lives. My own claim is that alien stories have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the
extent of showing how stereotypes negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards
another group of people because of the differences they hold. I believe that an individual thinks they
have superiority over another and that is why negative connotations are made. Stanley Weinbaum s A
Martian Odyssey, tells the story of a man named Jarvis who meets an extraterrestrial named Tweel.
Although they have physical differences, Jarvis and Tweel get along. However, Harrison

Essay on Shifting Efficiency
Shifting Efficiency
One of the most important and life altering inventions in history is the creation of the automobile. The
first model was built with a manual transmission, meaning the operator of the vehicle was responsible
for manually changing gears to increase speed. This method of acceleration, while efficient, required
the complete attention of the operator, and it sometimes took away the enjoyment of driving. This led
to the invention of the automatic transmission, a method by which the operator of the vehicle no
longer had to switch gears, as this was done automatically. Since the development of the automatic
transmission, there has always been conflict about which method of acceleration is more efficient.

When using a standard, learning how to create the equilibrium of letting one foot off the clutch and
pressing the other on the gas pedal in first gear could take a while to master. An automatic car, with
the process of driving in first gear taken care of magically to most people, is much simpler and less
time consuming to learn. All a person has to do is put the gear shift in drive and press on the gas pedal.
The final question of efficiency lies within the problem of figuring out which type of transmission is
better when racing. In this area, the manual transmission becomes the popular choice, compared to the
automatic. An automatic does not give the driver the freedom to shift gears when desired, as this is
sometimes necessary when shift variation is a key element to winning a race. The manual transmission
allows the driver to choose when it is necessary to shift gears, sometimes giving the racer an edge over
someone who is racing with an automatic car. Even though an automatic transmission takes the work
out of driving something most people are thankful for, given that some could never handle the task of
shifting manually, the standard has its own advantages also.
The decision about which transmission is more efficient may never be reached, given the advantages
and disadvantages of each. It really depends on the person who buys the car and what it will be

from Petroleum products were accounted in the United Nation s Escrow account.
These proceeds collected in the escrow accounts could be released only for the transaction of

Oil for Food Program (Australasian Legal Information Institute, 2017a).
There were number of contraventions in this case. The first issue was regarding paying the 10% of
proceeds as the carriage cost pertaining to the wheat contracts to Alia. This was later paid to the
government. Alia was an intermediary company aiding in the completion of the overall dealings
related to the case under analysis. Iraq was able to get the hard currency from this. Provisions were
made to reimburse the payment portion received by AWB which further strengthened the ability to
accumulate hard currency. In other words, the money from escrow account of UN was being used for
purposes which were other than making payment for the commodities not permitted (Austin and
Reynolds, 2012).
The second breach by AWB is the business contract they had with Tigris (another company). The
contract was focused on recovering significant debt estimated to be of approximately $8 million, for
transporting wheat to Iraq. To achieve this objective, AWB inflated the price of wheat under the OFFP
contracts which eventually resulted in the payment from the

Physical Causes And Complications Of Polycystic Ovary...
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive
age and is caused by an imbalance of a woman s female sex hormones, resulting in higher levels of the
male hormone, androgen and have irregular periods.
The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release
eggs. This makes it difficult for women to get pregnant.
The presence of androgen may result in physical signs, such as excess facial and body hair (hirsutism),
occasionally severe acne and male pattern baldness.
Due to the hormone imbalance, a woman with PCOS is more prone to developing diabetes and heart
issues.

Religion Is A Unity Of Spiritual And Physical
Religion is a system that proclaims an unseen order, and that our ultimate good lies in aligning
ourselves with the unseen order.
Buddhism
The truth in how the unseen order in Buddhism is the structure of human reality. It is the truth about
ourselves and the truth in which we are as human beings. The truths in ourselves will often be unseen
or unidentifiable often because our minds are distorted. As humans, we have these natural distortions
and have a hard time seeing things in a clear perspective. Buddhism does assert that a supreme
goodness does lie within a harmoniously level of adjustment within ourselves to see this hidden truth
in which we would not see normally. In Buddhism, there is a path that is laid for harmonious
adjustment and what it does consider is the truth in regards to the reality in our minds. In Buddhism
life is regarded as a unity of spiritual and physical. Manifestations of the spiritual, the seen and the
unseen are all a part of the same universal law of life. These manifestations of our spiritual and
physical lives are one and of equableness. Buddhist meditation consists of developing a capacity in
our minds to rest and not be disturbed, on singly a perception of an object. Secondly, Buddhists
meditation aims at the understanding of the true nature of things. Insightful meditation is about
understanding the nature of the world and letting go.

Discovery Of The Concentration Of Phosphate
The goal of the lab was to discover the concentration of phosphate in various colas in order to help
with a project for a major cola company. Before we could accomplish this final goal, a Spec 20 was
used to test three colors of food colorings. A Spec 20 is an instrument used to measure the intensity of
a light beam before and after it passes through a sample and compares these two intensities (What
does a Spectronic 20 measure). The instrument is able to measure the percent transmittance and
absorbance of a given sample. It works by taking light of various wavelengths and passing them
through a monochromator. A monochromator is a device that transmits a wavelength of light. The
machine diffracts the wavelengths. The sample that is placed in a small container, called a cuvette,
absorbs various wavelengths. This depends on the particular sampled being tested. The amount of
light absorbed is projected by the machine on a screen, in our case, a digital screen (How Does a
Spectronic 20 work?). By doing the lab with the food colorings, we were able to properly learn how to
use the Spec 20 and also learn the relationship between absorbance and transmittance. Percent
transmittance is the amount of light entering the sample in the cuvette divided by the amount of light
leaving the sample, multiplied by 100. This percent can then be converted to absorbance, which is a
measure of the capacity of a substance to absorb light of a specified wavelength (Absorbance). It is
converted by

Summary Of Love Triangles In The Knight s Tale
If you want to end a love triangle, then either make it a line or a square.
Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two
men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious
competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a
tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each
other for her hand.
Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly
close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall
in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill
each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner
takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The three main gods in this text are
venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon,
Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and her temple are significant in this story
because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals with the different connections of the
flirters and the flirted.
In this Quote, the Narrator, the knight, is describing the temple of Venus in the arena.

The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Essay
In Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, Mathilde is an unhappy French woman who has an apparent
desire to live a more luxurious life. Because Mathilde is unhappy in her marriage, she is not shy to let
her husband know that he is not enough to keep her happy. Throughout Maupassant s story, we can see
the transformation of Mathilde s selfishness, unhappiness, and materialistic nature into a newly found
humbleness after an incident that causes her to learn that there is more to life than material things.
Throughout the first few paragraphs, Mathilde is portrayed as being obsessed with material wealth,
and as being selfish. We can see that Mathilde is materialistic by the words that Maupassant writes

And she loved nothing but that; she felt made for that. She would have liked to please, to be envied, to

Mathilde says to her husband, It annoys me not to have a single jewel, not a single stone, nothing to
put on. I shall look like distress. I should almost rather not go at all (69). Instead of just owning her
materials, Mathilde is constantly letting her materials define her. It is apparent that Mathilde is not
happy where she is and is not happy with her husband. Mathilde is depicted by Maupassant as feeling
unhappy as though she had really fallen from her proper station (68). Mathilde s frequent remarks
about her husband also show the reader that she is not happy. Another time the reader can see that
Mathilde is unhappy where she is socially is when Maupassant writes, She suffered ceaselessly,
feeling herself born for all the delicacies and all the luxuries. She suffered from the poverty of her

  • 2. Risk Factors Associated With Opioid Use (CITE) Introduction Dysphoria, formication, anxiety, depression, insomnia and inability to focus on tasks are just some of the many symptoms associated with withdrawing from opiates. Opiates, originally derived from opium plants, have been used medicinally as early as 3400 B.C. Presently, opioids are used to relive pain as they have been shown to aid in decreasing the severity of pain signals moving to the brain. However, long term usage can lead to psychological dependence and neurological changes in the body (Pregolizzi, 2012; Jamison, Butler, Budman, Edwards Wasan, 2010). As of 2013 opioids were one of the most commonly abused drug in America, second only to marijuana. There have were approximately 1,244,872 emergency department visits related ... A second assessment is The Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain Revised (SOAPP R), this tool is typically self administered and consists of 24 questions. The SOAPP R was designed to identify aberrant medication related behaviors (Lakha, Louffat, Nicholson, Deshpande Mailis Gagnon, 2014). Finally, The Current Opioid Misuse Measure (COMM), a 17 question inventory, was also designed to measure the likelihood that the patient will misuse their prescribed medication. The SOAPP R and the COMM were both designed to take an individual s pain scale into consideration during the assessment (Jamison, Serrailler Michna, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Anaerobic Pond in Wastewater Treatment DEFINITION ANAEROBIC POND Anaerobic ponds are deep treatment ponds that exclude oxygen and encourage the growth of bacteria, which break down the effluent. It is in the anaerobic pond that the effluent begins breaking down in the absence of oxygen anaerobically . The anaerobic pond acts like an uncovered septic tank. Anaerobic bacteria break down the organic matter in the effluent, releasing methane and carbon dioxide. Sludge is deposited on the bottom and a crust forms on the surface as show in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Operation of the Anaerobic Pond. Anaerobic ponds are commonly 2 5 m deep and receive such a high organic loading (usually gt;100g BOD/m3 d equivalent to gt;3000 kg/ha/d for a depth of 3 m). They contain an organic loading that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biochemical reactions that take place in anaerobic ponds are the same as those occurring in anaerobic digesters, with a first phase of acidogenesis and a second slower rate of methanogenesis. Ambient temperatures in hot climate countries are conducive to these anaerobic reactions and expected BOD5 removals for different retention times in treating sewage have been given by Mara (1976) as shown in Table 2. More recently, Gambrill et al. (1986) have suggested conservative removals of BOD5 in anaerobic ponds as 40% below 10°C, at a design loading of 100 g/m3d, and 60% above 20°C, at a design loading of 300 g/m3d, with linear interpolation for operating temperature between 10 and 20°C. Higher removal rates are possible with industrial wastes, particularly those containing significant quantities of organic settleable solids. Of course, other environmental conditions in the ponds, particularly pH, must be suitable for the anaerobic microorganisms bringing about the breakdown of BOD. Table 2. BOD removals in Anaerobic Ponds loaded at 250 g (Mara 1976) BOD5/m3d. Retention Time (days) | BOD5 removal % | 1 | 50 | 2.5 | 60 | 5 | 70 | Anaerobic ponds are normally designed on the basis of a temperature dependent empirical value for the permissible organic loading rate. Land requirements will be lowest if the maximum possible BOD loading can be applied. The upper limit of the volumetric BOD loading is determined by odor emissions and minimum pH threshold value at which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nat Hocken Synopsis The story begins on the third day of December, after the wind changed overnight and brought winter with it. Nat Hocken, the protagonist, who because of a war time disability, had a pension and did not work full time at the farm (Maurier 1). Nat used to watch the birds on the cliff s edge during midday. But that fall, he had noticed something different in the birds; there were more birds than usual and they were restless, maybe because they sensed that the winter was going to be a hard one. That night, Nat hears a tapping on the window and goes to inquire, and a bird tries to get inside grazing his knuckles in the process but flies away soon. Sometime later, the tapping starts again, but this time more insistent. He goes to the window to check for a second time but is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The birds break in in one of the bedrooms and heaps of blackened bodies of birds fall from the chimney but luckily no one is hurt. Nat figures out that the birds attack when the tides turn. As the tapping and the rasping sounds at the window ceases, the family goes to the farm for supplies. The land birds do not attack, but sit on the trees, waiting and watching. At the farm, Nat finds the dead bodies of Jim, Mr. and Mrs. Trigg. He collects food, fuel and all the necessities and leaves for his house with his family. He starts working on the doors, windows and the chimney preparing for the next attack. When he looks out to the sea, he realizes that the tide has turned again and the gulls have started rising. He barricades the door and goes inside the kitchen. The attack starts again and the story ends with Nat smoking his last cigarette, throwing the empty pack in the chimney fire and watching it ... As the second largest subgenre of detective fiction, the private investigator welcomes readers to peer into a world of crime and violence. Unlike the glamour of the amateur detective where murders appear delicately wrapped and topped with bows at the doorsteps of wealthy countryside estates, the acts that take place in the private eye genre are ones committed with brutal and unrelenting violence in the alleyways and side streets of a city suffering from a pandemic of corruption. The rise in fascination with the private investigator subgenre parallels with the arrival of the Great Depression and the rise of poverty and criminal activity. During this ... As the Sonya Zhukovski s character appears more primal in her portrayal of the femme fatale, her objectives are made more evident than those of Miss O Shaughnessy. Brigid s con game is just as lucrative, yet her character has evolved to be more dangerously manipulative because of her emotional manipulation. However, just as the Op resists the advances of the princess, Spade shuts down Brigid s plea for mercy. Expecting me to run criminals down and then let them go free is like asking a dog to catch a rabbit and let it go, responds Spade. The femme fatale s desire for a better life and greed for wealth is deadly and dangerous for those who succumb to her lure, but the detective s desire for truth and maintain morals can be fatal for the dark lady, too. Introduction In this assignment I am going to discuss the purpose and functions of the Youth Justice System. I will start by exploring the build up to the legislations that underpins the Youth Justice System which is the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. When assessing a young person s needs, I use The Scaled Approach framework Asset, created by the YJB. Asset is a structured assessment; it provides a concise perception into the welfare of young person, identifying needs and risk to the public and the probability of re offending. With this information I am able to identify and address specific risk factors, creating effective intervention programmes, building on protective factors. This contributes to the youth justice systems objective to prevent the likelihood of re offending. In order to create and deliver structured interventions tailored to individual needs, I provide young people with a What Do You Think form (questions directed at their personal life) to gain an indication of their views. I use a VARK (Visual/Aural/Read/Write/Kinaesthetic) questionnaire which helps me identify their learning styles. For interventions to be effective and to reduce the likelihood re offending, I build on protective factors such as interest s, hobbies and establishing future goals to help young people focus on positive areas of their life. Panel meetings allow me to incorporate the main aims of the Youth Justice System. Prior to the meetings, I liaise with Victim Support to ascertain whether the victim or a representative would like to participate in the process of restorative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The memorial can be found at the former location of the Twin Towers in New York. These fountains that rest in the footprints of the towers are a powerful reminders of our nations history and all the lives that were lost that day. This memorial is ultimately successful because it evokes emotion, whether that be sadness or possibly a feeling of serenity or stillness. It s my design. The announcement of Michael Arad s design winning the competition was the start of controversy for this memorial. Daniel Libeskind was furious that he won because Arad s design completely destroyed the vision he had for the space. I will fight this! he yelled during his first meeting about it with the LMDC. I am the people s architect! Daniel want the slurry wall to be present in the memorial and have the whole site set below the main street. Arad felt that this would disconnect the memorial from the life of the city. His opinion won and the slurry wall can still be viewed below the memorial in the museum. That was only the beginning of conflict between architects in this process of construction. Many victims groups hated Arad s design as well. They hated the fact that fountains when underground instead of rising into the sky. The feeling of absence made them uncomfortable. The idea of absence is common in counter memorials. How can someone depict the incomprehensible events with a comprehensive memorial? A primary solution to the problem has been the formalized absence given by deconstructivism. I think the use of absences is what gives this memorial strength. 9/11 was a major day in our nation s history, therefore it should have an immense memorial. The United States first imposed a trade embargo on Cuba on February 3, 1962, in order to make things right with Castro s confiscation of privately owned properties and other productive assets. The Cuban embargo was stablished with the purpose of establishing the embargo against Cuba to reduce the threat imposed by Fidel Castro with the communist powers. The Cuban people must understand and act that it is up only to them to solve the social, economic, and political crisis caused by the Castro regime. U.S. taxpayers should no longer be engaging in to finance the costs of Castro s ceaseless tyranny. The United States must not abandon by nothing the Cuban people by relaxing or lifting the trade embargo against the communist regime because they have done nothing for why the United States should lift it. Instead, the U.S. government must neglect all pressures to abandon the embargo until all of the objectives for which it was imposed are achieved! Anything less would create a sad faith with the Cuban people, who nowadays are among the very few people left in the world who still suffer brutality of a communist ... • 10. Essay on Evolution Essay on Evolution There are many mechanisms that lead to evolutionary change. One of the most important mechanism in evolution is natural selection which is the differential success in the reproduction of different phenotypes resulting from the interaction of organisms with their environment. Natural selection occurs when a environment makes a individual adapt to that certain environment by variations that arise by mutation and genetic recombination. Also it favors certain traits in a individual than other traits so that these favored traits will be presented in the next generation. Another mechanism of evolution is genetic drift. Genetic drift is a random change in a small gene pool due to sampling errors in propagation of alleles or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some bacteria had genes that coded for enzymes that specifically destroyed certain antibiotics such as ampicillin. From this incident, scientists were able to deduce that natural selection helped the bacteria to inherit the genes for antibiotic resistance. Scientists have also been able to use biochemistry as a source of evidence. The comparison of genes of two species is the most direct measure of common inheritance from shared ancestors. Using DNA DNA hybridization, whole genomes can be compared by measuring the extent of hydrogen bonding between single stranded DNA obtained from two sources. The similarity of the two genes can be seen by how tightly the DNA of one specie bonds to the DNA of the other specie. Many taxonomic debates have been answered using this method such as whether flamingos are more closely related to storks or geese. This method compared the DNA of the flamingo to be more closely related to the DNA of the stork than the geese. The only disadvantage of this method is that it does not give precise information about the matchup in specific nucleotide sequences of the DNA which restriction mapping does. This technique uses restriction enzymes that recognizes a specific sequence of a few nucleotides and cleaves DNA wherever such sequences are found in the genome. Then the DNA fragments are separated by electrophoresis and compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay Gypsies in the Czech Republic The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not officially recognized. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. • 12. Public Broadcasting in the Article “Moving beyond the... In their article Moving beyond the Vast Wasteland , Laurie Ouellette and Justin Lewis critique how public broadcasting functions in the US. Liberal reformers hold to the view that television needs protection from commercialism. The liberal reformer view contains cultural and class hierarchies. They believe that public television is for the white, college educated middle class viewer who has cultural capital (Ouellette Lewis, 96). As a result, funding for public broadcasting has gone primarily towards high culture and intellectual programs and not sitcoms or other popular forms of television. Ouellette and Lewis disagree with this, saying that these types of high brow programming are not the only ones worthy of public investment. Instead, they argue that popular programs that are being commercially maintained also merit public support and investment (96). Rather than reserving public broadcasting for more educational programming, the authors argue that there is a more progressive solution that can incorporate popular media forms while still veering away from commercialization. Thus far, pubic television has failed to adopt popular media forms. Public television stations such as PBS failed to attract larger and more diverse audiences because they kept their programming intellectual and dull rather than building on popular aspects of television culture. Ouellette and Lewis argue that PBS could have incorporated sitcoms, soaps, and sports into their programming and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters San Juan County. It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La Sal mountain range towards the east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of millions of years of erosion on a landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive landscape is covered with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The potholes throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that progressively collect rainwater and wind blown sediment which gradually erode the underlying rock; leaving a series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor. Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion, and climatic shifts allow for this immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which has taken place for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks. Interchanging slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of rock which can be seen fully exposed in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian, Triassic and Jurassic time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by varying levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years, geologic material ... • 14. The Fascination Of War Literature War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself. I thought the panel in the video did a great job pointing out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the person you are going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each other. If this kind of thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos in how our judicial structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute moral guidance for there to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really enjoyed the second video as well and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian worldview really was. Out of that video I was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the importance of having a Christian worldview. Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some kind. This worldview determines how a person thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the Christian worldview is God himself. Everything begins, ends, and is centered on God and his character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on the mankind and filtered that way, but rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this worldview is imperative to have among believers and it is important that we check our minds and our hearts to make sure that our worldview aligns itself with the truth of God s word. By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory Coleman Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade, Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of food and do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A recent sample study of 7,802 people conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food security is a step lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity. The narrator in the story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother, Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that his students have more a chance to end up like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their lives. My own claim is that alien stories have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the extent of showing how stereotypes negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards another group of people because of the differences they hold. The first model was built with a manual transmission, meaning the operator of the vehicle was responsible for manually changing gears to increase speed. This method of acceleration, while efficient, required the complete attention of the operator, and it sometimes took away the enjoyment of driving. This led to the invention of the automatic transmission, a method by which the operator of the vehicle no longer had to switch gears, as this was done automatically. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When using a standard, learning how to create the equilibrium of letting one foot off the clutch and pressing the other on the gas pedal in first gear could take a while to master. An automatic car, with the process of driving in first gear taken care of magically to most people, is much simpler and less time consuming to learn. All a person has to do is put the gear shift in drive and press on the gas pedal. The final question of efficiency lies within the problem of figuring out which type of transmission is better when racing. In this area, the manual transmission becomes the popular choice, compared to the automatic. An automatic does not give the driver the freedom to shift gears when desired, as this is sometimes necessary when shift variation is a key element to winning a race. The manual transmission allows the driver to choose when it is necessary to shift gears, sometimes giving the racer an edge over someone who is racing with an automatic car. Even though an automatic transmission takes the work out of driving something most people are thankful for, given that some could never handle the task of shifting manually, the standard has its own advantages also. • 36. Discovery Of The Concentration Of Phosphate The goal of the lab was to discover the concentration of phosphate in various colas in order to help with a project for a major cola company. Before we could accomplish this final goal, a Spec 20 was used to test three colors of food colorings. A Spec 20 is an instrument used to measure the intensity of a light beam before and after it passes through a sample and compares these two intensities (What does a Spectronic 20 measure). The instrument is able to measure the percent transmittance and absorbance of a given sample. It works by taking light of various wavelengths and passing them through a monochromator. A monochromator is a device that transmits a wavelength of light. The machine diffracts the wavelengths. The sample that is placed in a small container, called a cuvette, absorbs various wavelengths. This depends on the particular sampled being tested. The amount of light absorbed is projected by the machine on a screen, in our case, a digital screen (How Does a Spectronic 20 work?). By doing the lab with the food colorings, we were able to properly learn how to use the Spec 20 and also learn the relationship between absorbance and transmittance. Percent transmittance is the amount of light entering the sample in the cuvette divided by the amount of light leaving the sample, multiplied by 100. This percent can then be converted to absorbance, which is a measure of the capacity of a substance to absorb light of a specified wavelength (Absorbance). It is converted by ... Another time we see her love for material items is when Mathilde says to her husband, It annoys me not to have a single jewel, not a single stone, nothing to put on. I shall look like distress. I should almost rather not go at all (69). Instead of just owning her materials, Mathilde is constantly letting her materials define her. It is apparent that Mathilde is not happy where she is and is not happy with her husband. Mathilde is depicted by Maupassant as feeling unhappy as though she had really fallen from her proper station (68). Mathilde s frequent remarks about her husband also show the reader that she is not happy.
