Effects Of Automatic Word Reading And Identifying Direction
The Effects of Automatic Word Reading and Identifying Direction
Whether it is the modern day issue of texting and driving or simply studying for an exam in a noisy
room most people experience distraction every day. What people may not know is how those
distractions cause interferences when processing information; this is the underlying problem and has
been known to be tested through something called a Stroop experiment. From referencing the original
Stroop test that examined the interference of color word association to other variations using shapes,
emotions, or spatial locations, we can still learn a lot from Stroop experiments. When the stimulus
contains both the target and distraction, perceptual load increases and suggests higher interference
also. This is due to the fact more attention is brought to the target and when this is shared, it also
brings more focus to the distracter. (Lavie 2005) When referencing and building off the original
Stroop test it is important to know the original theories and ideas. In the first experiment, Stroop
(1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red. Each individual color was written
in the 4 other colors the same amount of times. For example, the word blue would be written in the
color red and the participants had to name the color that the word was, not what it said. The subjects
were selected randomly and were shown a list of 10 words and were told to read them as fast as they
could. They first did this

Martin Luther King Influence
Martin Luther King Influence and Power
In the great country of America; America is who it is today because of the men and woman who were
great leaders that were able to influence people. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of those great leaders
that has changed America for the better because he had a dream. He was a black baptist minister who
was a spokesperson against segregation and led peaceful protests. In the 2014 movie Selma, the film
shows how Mr. King led the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches and the events leading
up to it. Mr. King was a remarkable leader because he could motivate people to join him in the protest
against segregation and influence America to change.
Martin Luther King used many different methods and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. King spoke at the church in Selma to inspire the people to not stand back and not do anything
anymore. In his speeches he used inspirational appeal, which is when a leader spur emotions in the
follower s sense of justice or loyalty to the organization. In Mr. Kings first speech in Selma he brings
up how the 4 girls were unjustly murdered in their own church and that only 2% of the black
population in Selma had the right to vote. He said, those that have gone on before us say no more, that
means protest, that means march, that means disturb the peace, that means jail and that is hard . By the
end of his speech the congregation was on their feet applauding and chanting give us the vote.
Because Mr. King used inspirational appeal and brought up the injustice that was happening the
people were willing to protest and march. If Mr. King started off with that they were going to march
and protect for first the people wouldn t have reacted the same way.
Mr. King was very well liked and respected by the black community because he was protesting against
segregation. Because he was so well known everywhere Mr. King went and he showed referent power
because the people wanted to meet him and shake his hand. Referent power is when followers want to
be like or closely associated with the leader. The followers want to develop a personal relationship
with the leader. Everyone in the black community looked up to Martin Luther King and was willing to

The Benefits Of Spanking
Over the past several decades, parents have used different forms of corporal punishment to discipline
their child. Many of these disciplinary techniques are effective however, one that tends to continue to
be a controversial topic is spanking. Some parents believe this method fixes the behavior, though other
parents believe spanking is the lazy approach. Spanking a child as a form of punishment is not a new
concept and is used widely however, a multitude of effects arise from this practice, including later
marriages and future relationships. Therefore, a solution to end this act needs to resolve this habit.
This solution will give tips to parents to choose other discipline method.
When a child misbehaves or disobeys their parent, the adult normally takes on the role of disciplining
the child, which is appropriate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spanking started in Ancient Greece as a pagan practice and was later introduced to the Catholic
Church. This practice in the church was used as a punishment for those who confess against their sins
and realize they need their sins removed. The Catholic Church at this time believed spanking the
sinner rid them of their sin and they were forgiven. This punishment continued throughout World War
2 as a means for teenagers to understand their sins had been removed. The Catholic belief comes from
the Old Testament in the Bible and several still refer to this today. Spanking has also been prevalent in
Victorian Europe coming from psychologist, Sigmund Freud s, theories. Freud had a theory known as
the Oedipus and Electra Complex. This theory demonstrates the children were being sexually abused
on a mass scale...in the very strict punishing environment in every home (Lutton, 2007). Freud had
sent this theory to the public and he had lost all his funding. This concept not only explains Sigmund
Freud s thinking, but it also explains how spanking as punishment can continue down several

The Problem With Homeless Today
Week 7 Assignment:
The Problem with Homeless in America
Equilla Simmons
Boston University
One of the basic human needs is shelter. While many people take having a roof over their head for
granted, there is a plethora of people that have no place to call home. However, America has become a
place where Social Darwinism is vastly accepted, leaving several people that are homeless with
limited resources. In January 2013, 610,042 people were homeless on a given night. Most (65 percent)
were living in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs and 35 percent were living in
unsheltered locations (Cortes, Morris, Henry, 2013, p.1). While this is a decrease from last year in
which there were, 633,782 people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homelessness has no age limit. Nearly one quarter (23 percent or 138,149) of all homeless people
were children, under the age of 18. Ten percent (or 61,541) were between the ages of 18 and 24, and
67 percent (or 410,352) were 25 years or older (Cortes et al., 2013 p.6).
This shows how the problem affects every cohort and it s sad that children have the highest rate of
homelessness. Many people tend to blame the homeless person for making the wrong decisions in
their youth. However, the youth have the highest rate of homelessness and they haven t even had the
chance to make some of those decisions. 20% of homeless youth are LGBT, mostly due to severe
family conflict
They are the most vulnerable along with older people and being older increased the risk of
experiencing a violent attack (Meinbresse et al., 2014). In addition, the veterans that risk their life for
the American system make up a certain percentage of homeless people. According to The Department
of Housing and Urban Development, there were 57,849 homeless veterans on a single night in January
2013. Sixty percent were located in shelters or transitional housing programs, and 40 percent were in
unsheltered locations. Just under 8 percent (4,456) were female (Cortes et al., 2013). Many of them

Essay On Smitten Ice Cream
I doubt that you have taste buds. The rather offensive comment was what my friend heard from a
stranger who overheard our conversation at Patricia s Green in Hayes Valley. My friend just admitted
that he was not a huge fan of Smitten Ice Cream, a local nitrogen ice cream shop located in San
Francisco. It was almost unacceptable not to be in love with such rich and creamy thing nitrogen ice
cream often referred as revolution of ice cream among San Franciscans. I loved living in Hayes Valley
because it had Smitten. On the weekends, I would go to the ice cream place converted from an old
shipping container. What was special about Smitten is that it has a viewing area for customers to enjoy
watching their orders being prepared with fog oozing out like in a chemistry experiment. The secret of
Smitten lies with that fog of liquid nitrogen. Smitten always had four flavors: Classic Vanilla and

Ice cream is rather a complex mixture of different particles interacting with each other to create unique
properties of the food. The first component ice crystals are formed when water in ice cream base
freezes. The key to make smooth ice cream is to prevent ice crystals to form in big size during
freezing. Rapid freezing and constant churning of base lead water contents to form many minute sized
crystals. The texture of ice cream with many smaller ice crystals is better than that with fewer big
crystals. Also, by reducing the amount of water in the base that will be formed into ice crystals by
increasing other ingredients such as milk fat, sugar and other solids can be a way. However, while
normally water takes up 60% of ice cream base, more than 47% of the total solids will give heavy and

Chronic Wasting Disease Management Case Study
As stated previously, the accurate and factual information regarding Chronic Wasting Disease is
important to further gain an understanding among the many stakeholders of the degree of risks of
CWD and more so, to gain support for CWD management. The failure to keep Texas Landowners,
hunters and many other groups informed of the CWD with most recent facts could impact how these
individuals see the disease management strategies (CWD Management Plan, 2015).
The approach to tackling this disease has successful has been displayed in many strategies. One
possible attempt that has been established is the Eradication Attempt in which The state of New York

Likewise, 1,200 deer were collected within the Disease Zone during 2011 winter as well as 2,300
samples from hunters of deer that had been harvested the following fall and no positive result were
identified of CWD (CWD Management Plan, 2015). Another Solution is the Control Attempt where
states like Wyoming, Colorado, Wisconsin, where CWD has been around for several years, would not
want to consider the Eradication Attempt as a course of action. The Control Attempt is to strictly
focused on reducing the migration of free ranging or captive deer also from CWD infected areas,
which could greatly reduce the spread. In the Control Attempt, some states have paired up with
hunters to monitor the prevalence, distribution, and managing of deer and elk population to meet the
requirements of the CWD objectives (CWD Management Plan, 2015). A third solution is the Outreach
Attempt, which has been a well developed and educated plan that is perceived as a critical component
of CWD management to help keep Texas Hunters and the general public well informed of most factual
information about CWD. This attempt to increase the awareness and implication of this disease by
networking with natural resource professionals and strongly encouraging them to schedule Chronic

City Tuition Jacked Up
Review of Cyril J. Barker s CUNY tuition jacked up, New York Amsterdam Times, 102(48), 1 35.
How might you use the strategies for applying creativity to problems and issues in addressing this
topic? There are few solutions, creative or otherwise, available to students in New York City as a
result of recent tuition hikes. The decision to increase tuition rates for some New York City s colleges
was met with protests, cancellation of classes, and the arrests of hundreds of students and supporters
following the announcement. The amount of the tuition increase, about $1,500 a year (a whopping 30
percent increase according to one student interviewed for the article), appears to have been the last
straw for many of these protestors who have witnessed their tuition increase time and again in recent
years. The tuition hikes were the result of a new law authorizing the increases enacted in 2012 in
response to increasing costs at the state s educational institutions. The increases are effective through
2015, and are being imposed statewide. Critics of the tuition hike argue that it is just another step
towards the complete privatization of the state s colleges which are being turned into elitist institutions
by City University of New York (CUNY) Chancellor Matthew Goldstein. Although the tuition hikes
were authorized by the New York state legislature, there were no alternatives to the hike advanced by
the legislature or the administrators of the state s colleges. How might you

The Black Timber Is Dark And Silent, Not A Sound
The black timber is dark and silent, not a sound to be heard. The terrain is brutal, almost straight up
and down; therefore, the elk love it due to the challenge hunters have of finding them. As a hunter
walks out of the black timber and onto the next ridge, a few trees and sagebrush fill the mountainside.
The terrain is gradual, the exact opposite of black timber. Wind howls as it comes across the
mountainside, for there is nothing to block it. Monster mule deer graze on the horizon as bighorn
sheep bed down on some rocks; looking out for any situation that may arise. Hunting in the Rockies is
different, for there is a wide variety of people but can all be classified into three different categories:

Hearing his favorite excuses: I get short of breath too easy, I d never be able to walk that far, or I d be
lost if I went up there, is hilarious. Their most famous one is why would somebody actually walk off
the road and climb up the hillside, when somebody can just drive around all day and still see animals.
The Roadhunter never scouts the area before season and does not know what is beyond the first ridge.
The binoculars and rangefinder rest on the dash where they await to be used for looking at the vast
mountain side. No matter how cold or hot it is, all the windows are rolled down, allowing for a true
view of the terrain. A few years while hunting in Colorado, my dad and uncle were chasing a herd of
elk they spotted on the hillside. As they approached the elk and knelt into shooting position, two shots
were fired over their heads. My dad and uncle ran to the nearest boulder and took cover. When they
finally stepped out from the rock, the elk were gone. There was no hope in finding the elk again, so
they just went back to the truck. A few hours later they met a roadhunter who was dragging out a mule
deer, so they stopped to talk to him. During the conversation, the roadhunter showed us where he shot,
and it was right on the other side of where my dad and uncle were chasing the elk. Come to find out,
the elk were scared away by the roadhunter shooting at the mule deer from the road.
Most of the hunters are classified as Mr. Get er Done, or

The Cuban Revolution In Nicaragua

One of the first areas in Latin America to be affected by the Cuban Revolution was the small Central
American country of Nicaragua. Cuba prior to the Cuban Revolution, was under a dictator and many
people lived in poverty, and in the 1960s Nicaragua was faced with same problem. The fact that Cuba

The Characteristics Of The Eastern Grey Kangaroo And Red...
What s your favorite animal? May not be the kangaroo because you might not know much about them.
The Kangaroo is an animal that really wouldn t pop up into your mind when people ask you that
question. Kangaroos might not be a big hyped up animal but, they re pretty interesting because they
have many features that some other animals don t. When people think about the Kangaroo what comes
to there mind is the Eastern grey kangaroo and Red Kangaroo. Why people think of the grey kangaroo
is because it s a larger species. The kangaroo s diet, the way they survive when danger s get in the
way, also different type of kangaroos, their features about them, and the reproduction. Kangaroos are
marsupials that are only found in Australia that also have pouches. They have muscular tails, strong
back legs, long pointed ears, and short fur.
This mammal is different for the reason that they have pouches. The females have mammary glands
that they carry the young ones until they re old enough to be on their own. When the mother gives
birth the baby crawls up the mother s body immediately to enter the pouch. When the baby is inside
the pouch it attaches to one of the four teats, the reason for that is so it enlarges and to hold it inside in
place. When the joey or baby is born it weighs less than a gram also it s only about 2 cm long. Before
the joey is born the mother makes sure to lick the pouch to make sure its clean before the baby enters
it. Eastern Grey Kangaroos are the most common

Abortion and the Privacy Amendment Essay
Abortion and the Privacy Amendment
A U.S. citizen s right to privacy was first discussed in an 1890 Harvard Law Review article in which
two Boston lawyers, Louis Brandeis and Samuel Warren, defined it as the right to be let alone. Since
then, the right to privacy has provided the basis for a stream of revolutionary and controversial
constitutional interpretations by courts across the United States, culminating in the U.S. Supreme
Court s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Although decisions have come down in favor of a right to
privacy, they are largely based on a broad and disputed interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

A Rutgers professor summarized the problems deriving from the right to privacy when he wrote, If
human rights such as the right to be let alone are to enjoy the force of law, it seems desirable for the
right to be spelled out carefully. The right to privacy is entirely a judicial interpretation and creation,
meaning that it has little permanence or substance. Only a constitutional amendment can insure that
one s privacy is an undisputed, inalienable right.
So, why isn t this amendment before Congress? The first reason is that many policymakers believe
that the right to privacy is too hard to define, and therefore cannot be worded into an amendment.
However, the current vulnerability of a Fourteenth Amendment based right to privacy justifies an
amendment which states simply that every American citizen possesses the basic right to personal
privacy. If the amendment were a simple declaration of the right s existence, then the definition of
privacy, like freedom of speech, would be left to the interpretation of the Court. This new amendment
would negate Justice Rehnquist s strong position that the Fourteenth Amendment, an Amendment

An Evaluation Of A Case For A Company Without Violating...
sanctions collected. In the year following the implementation of the incentive provisions, a
whistleblower fund of $452 million dollars was put in place. The possibility of qualifying for a
significant whistleblowing award has been incentivizing some employees to bypass internal reporting
controls in favor of reporting directly to the SEC. Corporate attorneys have to deal with employees
that choose to bypass internal reporting and compliance and must also adapt with the changing
landscape of whistleblower law to make sure they are protecting the company without violating
employee rights. In house attorneys face a dynamic workplace environment as protections for
whistleblowers continue to expand. One way courts may expand these protections is by relaxing the
requisite specificity of whistleblower claims. In Sylvester v. Parexel Int l, Inc., the Administrative
Review Board (ARB) reversed a line of decisions requiring the allegation in a SOX whistleblower
claim to definitively and specifically relate to shareholder fraud. The ARB noted that the heightened
pleading standards for complaints filed in federal court, as established by the Supreme Court s
holdings in Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly and Ashcroft v. Iqbal, do not apply to SOX whistleblowing
complaints. Instead, SOX complaints begin with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) and are not subject to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The board determined that the

Descriptive Essay About Pacific Blues
Pacific Blues
The shh, shh, shh of the water shuffling against the stone beach could have been heard from the road if
I stood still, but currently there is a concerto of noise beneath my feet, a deep and rumbling earthquake
shifting the rocks on which I stand with every step I take. It s not just my steps that create the
symphony; behind me is Agathe, standing on the stones and laughing as Quartz slips into the shallows.
The Australian shepherd doesn t go deep, but her tail wags with the ferocity of a thousand winds as
she darts in and out of the water, rocks slipping around her feet and jaws snapping at the waves as they
rumble against the shore.
Agathe pushes her blonde hair back, and I wonder again why she doesn t simply tie it back if it annoys
her so much.
Beneath my feet, the stones are unlike any I have seen before, each a rounded composite with
shimmering white lines racing through, some having clearly been broken apart recently and others
having little holes in them, as though someone had taken a cookie cutter and peeled a piece away,
leaving behind only the shell.
I kneel among the stone kingdom, and the sound echoes downwards as though I m standing upon
rocks that run a kilometre deep.
My hands trail over their surface, examining and turning until, finally, the need for a photograph takes
over, and I slip my phone from my pocket.
If there s a single thing I ve learned taking pictures of every beautiful thing I see, it s that the image is
never as good as reality,

Delaney s Invisible Presences
While Delaney s vision of perfection is reasonable for him to want, the students and teachers around
him make it a daunting task. Delaney values the honesty that each of the invisible presences have and
tries to model what they do: But after I started reading those confounded school stories I was never
happy about saying I had been to Mass (O Connor 211). One of his main goals appears to be
influencing the other kids so he had to begin somewhere with being honest. In addition to trying to be
like the invisible presences, his interest began with reading the school stories. Delaney believed that
he had to be like them and the stories helped him begin. For example, the invisible presences are
described as ...grand chaps who always stuck together and were great at football and cricket. They
never told lies and wouldn t talk to anyone who did (O Connor 210). The presences that Delaney
describes allow him to try and demonstrate what a favorable person should act like. Unfortunately,
several of the schools students did not take him seriously and his ideas changed drastically. ... Show

Delaney wanted to show everyone how a real school should be run: Even so, I couldn t help being

Delaney being an idealist, there is a transformation to realism as he begins to give up. The students
and teacher taunt him and laugh at him: I knew it was no good. I was at Mass, sir (O Connor 220).

Mackey Arena Game Analysis
Walking into Mackey Arena is like walking into a basketball shrine, filled with history. That history is
built upon the rivalry between Purdue and the school down south, Indiana University. On February 28,
I was fortunate enough to be in Mackey Arena for this historical rivalry game and senior night, a game
that meant Purdue could take the Big Ten Title in a win. Purdue did just that, winning 86 to 75. I was
very pleased with the game and it exceeded all expectations I had for the huge rivalry. As a student
who has been to every home game this season, I joined the lottery system prior to the game so that I
could get a closer seat than those who did not do the lottery. The lottery began the night prior to the
game where students camped out outside Mackey s atrium. I asked Sam Kolczak, a student at Purdue
who camped out for the IU game and the Villanova game back on November 14, 2016, what he
thought about the student involvement for games at Purdue. Kolczak said, I love camping out for these
games. The people that do it are really cool and I ve even made ... Show more content on

Purdue this season has had a better season than they have had in the past, finishing at the top of the

road against them. I asked Kyle Graham, a senior at Purdue University and also a part of the large
senior group who goes to every game, how he felt about his last Purdue IU game as a student. Graham
said, It was actually amazing to see them win and do so in such great fashion. When I was a freshman,
Purdue had finished last in the Big Ten conference. So, it was almost bitter sweet, I guess, seeing them

Pathophysiology Of Fibromyalgia
This disorders pathophysiology manifest itself in a number of ways. These problems are related to
central nervous system, genetics, psychological and environmental stress. Many times fibromyalgia
will be present along with other identifiable disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and irritable
bowel syndrome. This can make diagnosis more complicated. Individuals experience a significantly
higher sensitivity to pain sensations than a healthy person. Simply touching the skin of someone with
fibromyalgia can cause great discomfort. The pathology seems to be low levels of norepinephrine and
serotonin which typically act in the body as messengers to the brain to prevent pain. Fibromyalgia
patients produce an abnormal amount of the stress hormone cortisol which adds to the pain felt. Sleep
can be a problem as well, as a result, the sufferer in not capable of receiving the common restorative
actions that a good night s sleep can provide. It is more common for a person whose parent has
fibromyalgia to get it themselves. The exact genes involved with this genetic inheritance have not
been identified. Environmental conditions such as extreme emotional stress or the physical trauma of
being in a serious accident can add to the likelihood fibromyalgia. ... Show more content on

Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq Analysis
The majority of European settlers in North America were of English origin. However, by the 1700s
two regions in particular, New England and the Chesapeake, had developed their own distinct
societies. Although both were occupied by Englishmen looking for better lives, the two regions
evolved to have societies vastly different from one another. The causes for these differences are
because of the distinction in their religions, their reasons for immigrating, and the types of
governments that they formed. One of the many distinct differences between the societies of the
Chesapeake and New England were the religions of the settlers. While many in the Chesapeake were
Anglican, the majority of colonists in New England were Puritans. For example, John Winthrop,
leader of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, was a fervent Puritan. While still aboard the Arabella in

only was alcohol used as a type of anti depressant, but it was done by under age drinkers (Cormier;

Coloration In The Wizard Of Oz
In L. Frank Baum s The Wizard of Oz, the coloration throughout the Land of Oz is quite important.
Perhaps Baum used varying color themes as a metaphor for ethnicity; if so, this demonstrates that the

Diamond describes (in his renowned novel, Guns, Germs, and Steel ) as having used fear as a weapon,
in conjunction with the unseen and misunderstood force of disease (this could be a metaphor for

When asking a child what they want to be when the grow up, they will most likely tell you a doctor,

greater (this really only applies to middle upper class). They want to be artist, musicians, actors, or

Modern Traditionalism Vs Modernism
The period of the twentieth century, specifically the nineteen twenties, was a historically significant
event in history due to the dramatic changes politically and socially. In this time period there was
many altercations between two specific groups who had completely different outlooks on change.
Modernists, or people who tended to be in favor of new ideas, styles and social trends, embraced the
idea of change during this time period whereas traditionalist, or people who are opposed to change,
had deep respect for long held cultural and religious values that they believed should not be broken
under any circumstances. The disputes between the traditionalist and modernist over religious beliefs
made way into the woman s lives leaving pop culture to rise rapidly.
In the centuries leading up to the Jazz and the Machine Age , the nineteen twenties was in a major
dispute over religious beliefs between the traditionalist and the modernists. In 1925, a trial was held
that was known as the Scopes trial. John scopes, a high school teacher, taught the theory of evolution
in a Tennessee public high school. At the time, Tennessee had a state law they made it illegal to teach
evolution in schools. The modernists had believed that the teachings of evolution gave the public
another perspective through science but not religion. The traditionalist however, feared that the
teaching of the Bible would be lost along with religious morals if Scope had won the trial.

Themes Of Sandra Cisneros
Readers of Sandra Cisneros are able to identify major themes throughout her work. She makes these
themes evident because growing up she experienced some of the feelings and emotions that her
characters do, which is why she is able to write with such passion. Displacement and isolation are two
themes that Cisneros makes evident in her work. Readers will see these themes in Woman Hollering
Creek, Mericans, and Eleven. In Woman Hollering Creek isolation and displacement play a big part in
the main character, Cleofilas , life. She marries a man whom she believes she is going to be with

warm, twists a napkin into a knot, then another into a fan, one into a rose, nods her head, smiles,
yawns, politely grins, laughs at the appropriate moments [...] (Cisneros 223). She feels so out of place
that instead of trying to make conversation she would rather stay off to the side and pretend like
everything is fine. Cleofilas first longs to experience the American Dream, if there is such a thing,

After a theoretical analysis of the pharmaceutical industry, the research includes the development of
an analytical framework, which serves as a basis for the examination of the selected websites. This is
followed by an analysis based on the CSR section of the websites of three world leader
pharmaceutical wholesalers and service providers within the pharmaceutical industry. A qualitative
methodology applied to the written content of the websites allows drawing conclusions on the reasons
that lead these companies to get involved in CSR. It also provides an interpretation of how these firms
organize their CSR communication, and which CSR communication strategies they use for addressing
their stakeholders. Findings: The engagement in CSR of companies developing its activities and

External stakeholders (NGOs, media, consumer advocacy groups and the public opinion) carefully
watch the steps taken by pharmaceuticals. As a consequence, the initiatives and communications must

Various Types Of Occupational Fraud
Types of Fraud
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a
representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud is
any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business for
their personal gain (www.smartceo.com).
Type I: Corruption
Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the company for
personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of corruption. This is
receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a company official paying a
public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is another form of corruption. This
is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets, that steals them for personal gain. For
example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom
dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If the purchasing manager sits on the board of
his wife s company and then awards contracts to her company, that is a conflict of interest.
Type II: Asset Misappropriation
This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It also
usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the
company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would

The War between Scotland and England in the Reign of...
Why did War break out between Scotland and England in the Reign of Edward I?
On the 14th of May 1264, the forces of Simon de Montfort, Gloucester and the Londoners were set
arrayed against the loyalist forces of King Henry III, Richard of Cornwall and Prince Edward (later to
become King Edward I). The loyalists suffered a massive defeat at this Battle of Lewes and among
those captured, aside from Richard of Cornwall and perhaps the King (Prestwich indicates the unsure
nature of the King s capture 46), were the northern barons (Scottish lords) of Balliol, Bruce and
Comyn. (Jenks 132) Prince Edward also became a hostage as part of an exchange after the battle.

One of these four advisors was John Balliol, father of the future King of Scotland. (Prestwich 26) It is
quite clear that, [families] notable in Scottish history were also notable in England... The Bruces...
were a Yorkshire family, and the Robert Bruce who was Balliol s rival for the Scottish crown in 1292
had served Henry III for twenty years and ended... as chief justice of the English court of king s bench.
(Miller 4) Given that such relationships so closely tied the English and the Scottish leaderships war
was far from anyone s agenda. However, during this time it was not uncommon even for close
relationships to digress towards war. Family lines were built with strategic marriages to link families
together, but they could just as easily lead to arguments and even war, specifically resulting from such
strategic partnerships (or lack there of).
Alexander II King of Scotland had been married to Joan, younger sister to Henry III, but later married
Mary of Coucy (daughter of a great French house) after Joan s death. This new marriage offended
Henry III, not least of all because he was trying to recover French land (Poitou) and gain respect in
continental Europe. (Powicke 586 7) To prevent war a new treaty was made giving the King of Scots
more power, but at the same time asking him not to enter into any alliances hostile to England. This
treaty was cemented by the marriage of Alexander (son of Mary and King Alexander II, who died

An Extension Of The Activities Essay
Research is a systematic, precise and rigorous inquiry or investigation that allows people to
understand the nature of a problem or idea (Grossoehme, 2014; Stringer, 2014). All research can be
visualised as an extension of the activities we engage in day by day, which requires one to move past
the day to day understandings and engage in a more precise and rigorous description, observation or
explanation of the problem or idea (Stringer, 2014).
The general distinction between qualitative and quantitative research is that quantitative research uses
empirical data in the form of numbers, while qualitative research uses empirical data that is not in the
form of numbers, usually words, but there is much more to the research designs than their use of
numerical data or not (Stringer, 2014; Punch, 2009). Qualitative research is associated with research
conducted in the social world, as opposed to quantitative research which focuses on predicting and
controlling phenomena on the physical world, and both have their own way of thinking and
approaches to research and collecting their data (Stringer, 2014, Punch, 2009). For the purpose of this
assignment we will look into the ideas, thinking and approaches of two qualitative research designs;
grounded theory and action research.

develop a theory grounded in the data, using an inductive, theory discovery method, whose

Persuasive Essay About Study Abroad
Why do people leave their home countries in order to live in a foreign country? Why do they move

as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain circumstances

In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty two
hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea to study
abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and senior year in

college students alcohol use. In this study, the independent variables were the differences between
what was seen on the fictitious Facebook page, whether it included alcohol or non alcohol content,
and binge drinkers vs. non binge drinkers (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The dependent variable is the
questionnaire that each of the groups took. It measured the following: personal alcohol use,
information about the fictitious profile, perceived drinking norms, and frequency and quantity in
which a student consumes alcohol per week (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The fictitious Facebook
page only changed the content that was shown. In the study there were fifty seven participants; 39
female and 18 men, from the University in Midwestern United States. They recruited from an
introductory psychology class, and participants voluntarily signed up. The group was not as diverse,
but they were from different class years and aged from eighteen to thirty three. After the study was
over the participants were put into two groups: non binge drinkers and binge drinkers, based on their
answer on the questionnaire about how many drinks they consumed per sitting

Monday Night Football Game Analysis
The first Monday Night Football show premiered on US TV sets on Sept. 21, 1970. Ever since that
fateful day, Monday Night Football being shown on US TV has been a mainstay of the NFL. In terms
of sports betting, Monday Night Football is probably one of the most widely viewed times when
football is shown and therefore provides the smart gambler with a way to tap into that.
In fact one of the earliest betting strategies which was created to help gamblers profit off of the NFL
was the idea of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game. During the time
period that encompasses the 1970s and the 1980s, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the
Monday Night Football game was extremely profitable and helped many gamblers to take home large
winnings from this simple strategy alone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With regards to exact numbers of how many home underdogs have won their Monday Night Football
games you may see that since 1985 the number of home underdogs who have their Monday Night
Football games is about average. Therefore this strategy is no longer a valid strategy to follow with
regards to maintaining a profitable gambling strategy.
A better strategy is to follow the handicapping and ignore whether or not the home underdog is the
one you are betting on for the Monday Night Football game. It may be difficult for older gamblers
who have been using this strategy for a long time to change gears and begin using a different strategy.
However, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game is no
longer valid and therefore should not be

The Reality as Opposed to the Disney Versions of Snow...
Presently, many books and fairytales are converted movies and often, producers alters the original
tales to grasp the attention of a large audience. However, some of these interpretations hide the
primary interpretation. The original interpretations of the Disney classics Snow White and Sleeping
Beauty are greatly reinvented from the original fairytales Sun, Moon, and Talia and Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs because of the brutal nature of the treatment women in these original forms.
Although there are differences in certain aspects from the original tales to the movies, there are many
issues that are influential to the young girls who are still watching the Disney version. I realize this
when my youngest niece, Anella asks me, Why can t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Talia s father tries his best to vanish any type of spindle in his home until she was a young
lady, she somehow finds a spindle and pricks herself with it. He fears that his daughter will lose her
purity and innocence by pricking her needle or giving her up to marriage. Talia immediately dies to
fulfill the prophecy. The father is so distraught that he sent Talia s body away in one of his country
homes and abandons the place because he can t cope with his loss. Sometime later, while a King is
hunting, he finds Talia, dead, in the country house. The King, however, already has a wife of his own.
Although Talia is really dead, her beauty is perpetual. He immediately raped her because of her
irresistible beauty. Doesn t that show that princes can use women, especially when they are
vulnerable? The King is infatuated with Talia who is passive. After he is finished pleasuring himself
with Talia, he leaves. The King disposes of Talia after is done using her. The lesson once can take
away is that it is permissible to have a woman and throw her away when you re done. What s worse is
that the King had lifted the curse with his action. Talia becomes pregnant and when one of the twins
sucks the thumb she is pricked, Talia finally wakes up. Coincidentally, the King is lustful and finds her
again. This time, the King confesses what he has done and Talia reacts to her rape and defilement

INTRODUCTION
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) take the form of cylindrical carbon molecules and have untapped properties
that make them potentially useful in a wide variety of applications in nanotechnology, electronics,
optics, and other fields of materials science. They exhibit extraordinary strength and unique electrical
properties, apart from being efficient conductors of heat. Inorganic nanotubes have also been
synthesized, by researchers intrigued by this particular field.
Manufacturing a nanotube is dependent on applied quantum chemistry, specifically, orbital
hybridization. Nanotubes are composed entirely of sp2 bonds, like the ones seen in graphite. This
bonding structure, stronger than the sp3 bonds found in diamond, provides the molecules with their
unique strength. Nanotubes naturally align themselves into ropes held together by Van der Waals
forces. Under high pressure, nanotubes can merge together, trading some sp2 bonds for sp3 bonds,
thus acquiring great possibility for producing strong, unlimited length wires through high pressure
nanotube linking.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. Nanotubes have
been constructed with length to diameter ratio of up to 132,000,000:1, significantly larger than for any
other material.

Alaska s Oil Exploration
About Alaska
Alaska became a State in 1959 (Sold to U.S. in 1866 for $7,200,000) and is the 49th State, plus it is
586,400 square miles (largest state by area). Alaska, in area is equal to about one fifth the continental
United States, and it can be divided into four major provinces: the Pacific Mountain system is the
Pacific Border Ranges, The Coastal Trough province, the Alaska Mountains Aleutian region; Interior
Province, Brooks Range, and Arctic Coastal Plain. Alaska contains almost 34 000 miles, including
myriad islands, of tidal wave shoreline. The chain the Aleutian Islands extends from the southern west
tip of the Alaskan island. Aleutians has many active volcanos and also some in coastal regions. For
example, Unimak Island, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is wrong when it tends otherwise. I partially disagree with Leopold s principle because as an
engineer I know things don t always function properly just because it looks beautiful but nonetheless, I
have to add to the principle that the thing should also leave a place for our future generations. While
drilling for oil may seem attractive to the natives or townsfolk of the area as it brings more jobs and
creates an economic boom, the problem will be faced in the future. In the short run it might and will
bring prosperity to Alaska but the estimate of oil in section 1002 is only between 3 and 10.4 billion
barrels of oil in the coastal plain that is economically recoverable at $30 per barrel. If we look at the
yearly consumption of oil in America this might last at most two years and then it might become a
decline in oil again leaving only abandoned well in a well preserved reserve. We should stop any type
of drilling in ANWR as it might ruin the land for our future grandsons who will take over after

Key Differences Between Common Law And Civil Law
In Common Law and Civil Law the Key differences are that civil law is based on legislation while
common law is based on court decisions. If you look at the history of Law, you will see that civil law
stems back from as early as the 3rd century BC, it included various forms of law systems, from
Roman law, Germanic and local customs, cannon law, and the international law merchant. Civil law is
coded, encompassing all aspects of civil law, from procedural, to substantive and penal law. Civil law
is reflected in decision making as it s primarily legislative.
Common Law is based on custom and practice, derived from English history, which is reflected in
court decisions with the reliance of precedence. The role of the judicial in law making ... Show more

They come to this reasoning by other examples of civil law lawyer s reason supposedly by deductive,
the application of abstract principles to specific cases. While common law lawyers by induction, the
movement of from specific case to the general rule.
It can be said that maybe this reasoning has some merit to it, when comparing the differences and
likeness of both legal systems, which in the end is the same, an outcome, hopefully a fair and just one.
Further research show the attempts to compare the way a common law lawyer and a civil law lawyer
both interprets a written law. In this attempt to compare, it goes on to explain just how different their
techniques are at applying rules and principles on how the law interprets a statutory.
When a judge interprets a statute, he/she is merely approaching it from either a textual, historical or
functional stance, in order to find a solution to the problem presented to the court. In comparing a civil
law lawyer to a common law lawyer, one must look at ones methodology, how a legal scholar goes
about finding information regarding a factual case.
The rule of law in a general and practical sense is usually abided by most people in society, and we
view that the role of the judicial system is there to be guided by these rules. The role of lawyers,
judges and the courts in both civil law and

When one looks at how the media continues to communicate...
When one looks at how the media continues to communicate certain messages to the American public,
it is remarkable how some trends have continued for decades. This is particularly true concerning
images and graphics and the subtle messages that they carry in the world of print communications.
The unfortunate reality is that the media is no different from many institutions in American society in
that it has to sell products to the public in order to stay financially stable. As a means of doing so, the
media provides audiences with images that often satisfy their desires and meet their expectations.
Consequently, the inclusion of such stereotypes creates a vicious cycle as the audience continues to be
exposed to such messages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The country will always know about African American basketball players who reside in coastal cities
such as New York or Los Angeles, but the small town country boy will remain a mystery to the nation.
Furthermore, the inclusion of the scantily clad cheerleaders on both covers suggests that it is the girls
responsibility to keep their man s physical talents top secret. As both Larry and Doug are positioned in
a traditional masculine manner by having their brawny arms flexed around their hips, the cheerleaders
surrounding them are bending down to show off their sexy and fit bodies. The message remains
through the decades that in terms of our athletic heroes, it is the women s job to serve the supporting
role of serving in their best interests. As Potter explains, the media has remained just as influential as
it ever has in terms of reaching a vast number of people. People continue to spend more and more time
with the media. Over the past three decades, every new survey of media use has shown that the
average person is increasing exposure every year (Potter 5). With such rampant exposure, the
institution of the media has become only more powerful in its efforts to disseminate messages that
perpetuate stereotypes and reinforce the audience s previously held beliefs. Unfortunately, Sports
Illustrated continues to perpetuate backwards stereotypes by issuing its very popular swimsuit

  • 2. Effects Of Automatic Word Reading And Identifying Direction The Effects of Automatic Word Reading and Identifying Direction Whether it is the modern day issue of texting and driving or simply studying for an exam in a noisy room most people experience distraction every day. What people may not know is how those distractions cause interferences when processing information; this is the underlying problem and has been known to be tested through something called a Stroop experiment. From referencing the original Stroop test that examined the interference of color word association to other variations using shapes, emotions, or spatial locations, we can still learn a lot from Stroop experiments. When the stimulus contains both the target and distraction, perceptual load increases and suggests higher interference also. This is due to the fact more attention is brought to the target and when this is shared, it also brings more focus to the distracter. (Lavie 2005) When referencing and building off the original Stroop test it is important to know the original theories and ideas. In the first experiment, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red. Each individual color was written in the 4 other colors the same amount of times. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red and the participants had to name the color that the word was, not what it said. The subjects were selected randomly and were shown a list of 10 words and were told to read them as fast as they could. They first did this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Luther King Jr. is one of those great leaders that has changed America for the better because he had a dream. He was a black baptist minister who was a spokesperson against segregation and led peaceful protests. In the 2014 movie Selma, the film shows how Mr. King led the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches and the events leading up to it. In his speeches he used inspirational appeal, which is when a leader spur emotions in the follower s sense of justice or loyalty to the organization. In Mr. Kings first speech in Selma he brings up how the 4 girls were unjustly murdered in their own church and that only 2% of the black population in Selma had the right to vote. He said, those that have gone on before us say no more, that means protest, that means march, that means disturb the peace, that means jail and that is hard . By the end of his speech the congregation was on their feet applauding and chanting give us the vote. Because Mr. King used inspirational appeal and brought up the injustice that was happening the people were willing to protest and march. If Mr. King started off with that they were going to march and protect for first the people wouldn t have reacted the same way. Mr. King was very well liked and respected by the black community because he was protesting against segregation. Many of these disciplinary techniques are effective however, one that tends to continue to be a controversial topic is spanking. While many people take having a roof over their head for granted, there is a plethora of people that have no place to call home. How might you use the strategies for applying creativity to problems and issues in addressing this topic? There are few solutions, creative or otherwise, available to students in New York City as a result of recent tuition hikes. The decision to increase tuition rates for some New York City s colleges was met with protests, cancellation of classes, and the arrests of hundreds of students and supporters following the announcement. The amount of the tuition increase, about $1,500 a year (a whopping 30 percent increase according to one student interviewed for the article), appears to have been the last straw for many of these protestors who have witnessed their tuition increase time and again in recent years. The tuition hikes were the result of a new law authorizing the increases enacted in 2012 in response to increasing costs at the state s educational institutions. The increases are effective through 2015, and are being imposed statewide. Critics of the tuition hike argue that it is just another step towards the complete privatization of the state s colleges which are being turned into elitist institutions by City University of New York (CUNY) Chancellor Matthew Goldstein. Although the tuition hikes were authorized by the New York state legislature, there were no alternatives to the hike advanced by the legislature or the administrators of the state s colleges. The right to privacy is entirely a judicial interpretation and creation, meaning that it has little permanence or substance. Only a constitutional amendment can insure that one s privacy is an undisputed, inalienable right. So, why isn t this amendment before Congress? The first reason is that many policymakers believe that the right to privacy is too hard to define, and therefore cannot be worded into an amendment. However, the current vulnerability of a Fourteenth Amendment based right to privacy justifies an amendment which states simply that every American citizen possesses the basic right to personal privacy. • 21. An Evaluation Of A Case For A Company Without Violating... sanctions collected. In the year following the implementation of the incentive provisions, a whistleblower fund of $452 million dollars was put in place. The possibility of qualifying for a significant whistleblowing award has been incentivizing some employees to bypass internal reporting controls in favor of reporting directly to the SEC. Corporate attorneys have to deal with employees that choose to bypass internal reporting and compliance and must also adapt with the changing landscape of whistleblower law to make sure they are protecting the company without violating employee rights. In house attorneys face a dynamic workplace environment as protections for whistleblowers continue to expand. One way courts may expand these protections is by relaxing the requisite specificity of whistleblower claims. In Sylvester v. Parexel Int l, Inc., the Administrative Review Board (ARB) reversed a line of decisions requiring the allegation in a SOX whistleblower claim to definitively and specifically relate to shareholder fraud. The ARB noted that the heightened pleading standards for complaints filed in federal court, as established by the Supreme Court s holdings in Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly and Ashcroft v. Iqbal, do not apply to SOX whistleblowing complaints. Instead, SOX complaints begin with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and are not subject to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. • 22. Descriptive Essay About Pacific Blues Pacific Blues The shh, shh, shh of the water shuffling against the stone beach could have been heard from the road if I stood still, but currently there is a concerto of noise beneath my feet, a deep and rumbling earthquake shifting the rocks on which I stand with every step I take. It s not just my steps that create the symphony; behind me is Agathe, standing on the stones and laughing as Quartz slips into the shallows. The Australian shepherd doesn t go deep, but her tail wags with the ferocity of a thousand winds as she darts in and out of the water, rocks slipping around her feet and jaws snapping at the waves as they rumble against the shore. Agathe pushes her blonde hair back, and I wonder again why she doesn t simply tie it back if it annoys her so much. Beneath my feet, the stones are unlike any I have seen before, each a rounded composite with shimmering white lines racing through, some having clearly been broken apart recently and others having little holes in them, as though someone had taken a cookie cutter and peeled a piece away, leaving behind only the shell. I kneel among the stone kingdom, and the sound echoes downwards as though I m standing upon rocks that run a kilometre deep. My hands trail over their surface, examining and turning until, finally, the need for a photograph takes over, and I slip my phone from my pocket. If there s a single thing I ve learned taking pictures of every beautiful thing I see, it s that the image is never as good as reality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That history is built upon the rivalry between Purdue and the school down south, Indiana University. On February 28, I was fortunate enough to be in Mackey Arena for this historical rivalry game and senior night, a game that meant Purdue could take the Big Ten Title in a win. Purdue did just that, winning 86 to 75. I was very pleased with the game and it exceeded all expectations I had for the huge rivalry. As a student who has been to every home game this season, I joined the lottery system prior to the game so that I could get a closer seat than those who did not do the lottery. The lottery began the night prior to the game where students camped out outside Mackey s atrium. However, by the 1700s two regions in particular, New England and the Chesapeake, had developed their own distinct societies. Although both were occupied by Englishmen looking for better lives, the two regions evolved to have societies vastly different from one another. The causes for these differences are because of the distinction in their religions, their reasons for immigrating, and the types of governments that they formed. One of the many distinct differences between the societies of the Chesapeake and New England were the religions of the settlers. • 36. Various Types Of Occupational Fraud Types of Fraud The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners displays what is known as the Fraud Tree. It is a representation of the three major types of occupational fraud (www.acfe.com). Occupational fraud is any scheme that involves employees taking cash, resources, or misapplies assets of the business for their personal gain (www.smartceo.com). Type I: Corruption Corruption is an intentional, dishonest act where an employee abuses their position in the company for personal gain (www.curtin.edu.au). It can take many forms. Bribery is a form of corruption. This is receiving or paying for illegal advantages. An example of bribery is a company official paying a public official to gain advantage over competitors. Embezzlement is another form of corruption. This is when someone has legal access, but not ownership of assets, that steals them for personal gain. For example, the treasurer of the local PTA may decide to take PTA funds to buy her daughter s prom dress. Conflict of interest is another form of corruption. If the purchasing manager sits on the board of his wife s company and then awards contracts to her company, that is a conflict of interest. Type II: Asset Misappropriation This is the most common form of occupational fraud and accounts for over 85% of fraud cases. It also usually has the lowest cost of loss. Asset misappropriation is the intentional, illegal use of the company s assets for one s personal use (Mohlenhoff Uhl, 2014). An example would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Extension Of The Activities Essay Research is a systematic, precise and rigorous inquiry or investigation that allows people to understand the nature of a problem or idea (Grossoehme, 2014; Stringer, 2014). All research can be visualised as an extension of the activities we engage in day by day, which requires one to move past the day to day understandings and engage in a more precise and rigorous description, observation or explanation of the problem or idea (Stringer, 2014). The general distinction between qualitative and quantitative research is that quantitative research uses empirical data in the form of numbers, while qualitative research uses empirical data that is not in the form of numbers, usually words, but there is much more to the research designs than their use of numerical data or not (Stringer, 2014; Punch, 2009). Qualitative research is associated with research conducted in the social world, as opposed to quantitative research which focuses on predicting and controlling phenomena on the physical world, and both have their own way of thinking and approaches to research and collecting their data (Stringer, 2014, Punch, 2009). For the purpose of this assignment we will look into the ideas, thinking and approaches of two qualitative research designs; grounded theory and action research. In this study, the independent variables were the differences between what was seen on the fictitious Facebook page, whether it included alcohol or non alcohol content, and binge drinkers vs. non binge drinkers (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The dependent variable is the questionnaire that each of the groups took. It measured the following: personal alcohol use, information about the fictitious profile, perceived drinking norms, and frequency and quantity in which a student consumes alcohol per week (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The fictitious Facebook page only changed the content that was shown. In the study there were fifty seven participants; 39 female and 18 men, from the University in Midwestern United States. They recruited from an introductory psychology class, and participants voluntarily signed up. The group was not as diverse, but they were from different class years and aged from eighteen to thirty three. After the study was over the participants were put into two groups: non binge drinkers and binge drinkers, based on their answer on the questionnaire about how many drinks they consumed per sitting ... • 42. Monday Night Football Game Analysis The first Monday Night Football show premiered on US TV sets on Sept. 21, 1970. Ever since that fateful day, Monday Night Football being shown on US TV has been a mainstay of the NFL. In terms of sports betting, Monday Night Football is probably one of the most widely viewed times when football is shown and therefore provides the smart gambler with a way to tap into that. In fact one of the earliest betting strategies which was created to help gamblers profit off of the NFL was the idea of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game. During the time period that encompasses the 1970s and the 1980s, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game was extremely profitable and helped many gamblers to take home large winnings from this simple strategy alone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With regards to exact numbers of how many home underdogs have won their Monday Night Football games you may see that since 1985 the number of home underdogs who have their Monday Night Football games is about average. Therefore this strategy is no longer a valid strategy to follow with regards to maintaining a profitable gambling strategy. A better strategy is to follow the handicapping and ignore whether or not the home underdog is the one you are betting on for the Monday Night Football game. It may be difficult for older gamblers who have been using this strategy for a long time to change gears and begin using a different strategy. However, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game is no longer valid and therefore should not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Reality as Opposed to the Disney Versions of Snow... Presently, many books and fairytales are converted movies and often, producers alters the original tales to grasp the attention of a large audience. However, some of these interpretations hide the primary interpretation. The original interpretations of the Disney classics Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are greatly reinvented from the original fairytales Sun, Moon, and Talia and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because of the brutal nature of the treatment women in these original forms. Although there are differences in certain aspects from the original tales to the movies, there are many issues that are influential to the young girls who are still watching the Disney version. The Effect Of Carbon Nanotubes On Other Fields Of... 1 INTRODUCTION 1 2 HISTORY 2 3 DISCOVERY 3 4 CLASSIFICATION OF CNT 5 5 PROPERTIES OF CNT 7 6 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES 8 7 APPLICATIONS 8 8 FIELD EMISSION 9 9 CONCLUSION 10 10 REFERENCES 10 INTRODUCTION Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) take the form of cylindrical carbon molecules and have untapped properties that make them potentially useful in a wide variety of applications in nanotechnology, electronics, optics, and other fields of materials science. They exhibit extraordinary strength and unique electrical properties, apart from being efficient conductors of heat. Inorganic nanotubes have also been synthesized, by researchers intrigued by this particular field. Manufacturing a nanotube is dependent on applied quantum chemistry, specifically, orbital hybridization. Nanotubes are composed entirely of sp2 bonds, like the ones seen in graphite. This bonding structure, stronger than the sp3 bonds found in diamond, provides the molecules with their unique strength. Nanotubes naturally align themselves into ropes held together by Van der Waals forces. Under high pressure, nanotubes can merge together, trading some sp2 bonds for sp3 bonds, thus acquiring great possibility for producing strong, unlimited length wires through high pressure nanotube linking. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. Nanotubes have been constructed with length to diameter ratio of up to 132,000,000:1, significantly larger than for any other material. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Alaska s Oil Exploration About Alaska Alaska became a State in 1959 (Sold to U.S. in 1866 for $7,200,000) and is the 49th State, plus it is 586,400 square miles (largest state by area). Alaska, in area is equal to about one fifth the continental United States, and it can be divided into four major provinces: the Pacific Mountain system is the Pacific Border Ranges, The Coastal Trough province, the Alaska Mountains Aleutian region; Interior Province, Brooks Range, and Arctic Coastal Plain. Alaska contains almost 34 000 miles, including myriad islands, of tidal wave shoreline. The chain the Aleutian Islands extends from the southern west tip of the Alaskan island. I partially disagree with Leopold s principle because as an engineer I know things don t always function properly just because it looks beautiful but nonetheless, I have to add to the principle that the thing should also leave a place for our future generations. While drilling for oil may seem attractive to the natives or townsfolk of the area as it brings more jobs and creates an economic boom, the problem will be faced in the future. In the short run it might and will bring prosperity to Alaska but the estimate of oil in section 1002 is only between 3 and 10.4 billion barrels of oil in the coastal plain that is economically recoverable at $30 per barrel. If we look at the yearly consumption of oil in America this might last at most two years and then it might become a decline in oil again leaving only abandoned well in a well preserved reserve. We should stop any type of drilling in ANWR as it might ruin the land for our future grandsons who will take over after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Key Differences Between Common Law And Civil Law In Common Law and Civil Law the Key differences are that civil law is based on legislation while common law is based on court decisions. If you look at the history of Law, you will see that civil law stems back from as early as the 3rd century BC, it included various forms of law systems, from Roman law, Germanic and local customs, cannon law, and the international law merchant. Civil law is coded, encompassing all aspects of civil law, from procedural, to substantive and penal law. Civil law is reflected in decision making as it s primarily legislative. Common Law is based on custom and practice, derived from English history, which is reflected in court decisions with the reliance of precedence. The role of the judicial in law making ... It can be said that maybe this reasoning has some merit to it, when comparing the differences and likeness of both legal systems, which in the end is the same, an outcome, hopefully a fair and just one. Further research show the attempts to compare the way a common law lawyer and a civil law lawyer both interprets a written law. In this attempt to compare, it goes on to explain just how different their techniques are at applying rules and principles on how the law interprets a statutory. When a judge interprets a statute, he/she is merely approaching it from either a textual, historical or functional stance, in order to find a solution to the problem presented to the court. In comparing a civil law lawyer to a common law lawyer, one must look at ones methodology, how a legal scholar goes about finding information regarding a factual case. The rule of law in a general and practical sense is usually abided by most people in society, and we view that the role of the judicial system is there to be guided by these rules. When one looks at how the media continues to communicate certain messages to the American public, it is remarkable how some trends have continued for decades. This is particularly true concerning images and graphics and the subtle messages that they carry in the world of print communications. The unfortunate reality is that the media is no different from many institutions in American society in that it has to sell products to the public in order to stay financially stable. As a means of doing so, the media provides audiences with images that often satisfy their desires and meet their expectations. Consequently, the inclusion of such stereotypes creates a vicious cycle as the audience continues to be exposed to such messages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The country will always know about African American basketball players who reside in coastal cities such as New York or Los Angeles, but the small town country boy will remain a mystery to the nation. Furthermore, the inclusion of the scantily clad cheerleaders on both covers suggests that it is the girls responsibility to keep their man s physical talents top secret. As both Larry and Doug are positioned in a traditional masculine manner by having their brawny arms flexed around their hips, the cheerleaders surrounding them are bending down to show off their sexy and fit bodies. The message remains through the decades that in terms of our athletic heroes, it is the women s job to serve the supporting role of serving in their best interests. As Potter explains, the media has remained just as influential as it ever has in terms of reaching a vast number of people. People continue to spend more and more time with the media. Over the past three decades, every new survey of media use has shown that the average person is increasing exposure every year (Potter 5). With such rampant exposure, the institution of the media has become only more powerful in its efforts to disseminate messages that perpetuate stereotypes and reinforce the audience s previously held beliefs.
