Research Paper: Intel, Monopolies, and Corruption
Throughout the last 50 or so years, tech companies have risen and fall, gaining fame and power, and
marking their names in history book for achieving momentous tasks, often in which can still be seen
today. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example of what
American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with computer
components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main attraction, Central
Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. Not only does Intel have vast reach in
the computer component market, but they have complete control of not only their production process,
being for the most part self contained. From mining necessary resources, to shipping out their
complete products from factories to their recipients, whether that be a store or an OEM. Intel is truly
one of the most successful, if not the most successful Tech giant involved with Computer hardware.
However, they only got to this place through nefarious actions, such as breaking contracts, playing the
courts to their advantage, throwing their weight around, regardless of the legality of it, to meet their
bottom lines. Considering that Intel is at such a high position, and has pretty much always existed at a
fairly high position in the market, why? This paper will set out to find out the

Difference Between The House And The Senate
There are many differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate. For one the House
of Representatives is bigger than the Senate. There is not a lot of media coverage in the House as it is
in the Senate, members in the Senate are elected every six years as for the House are elected every two
years. The House has a reputation of being much more contentious and impulsive when it comes to
legislation (enotes.com). When it comes to electing a House Rep its by district, so winning that seat is
a lot easier than the Senate, for simple fact you are going for a congressional district vote, and not a
state wide vote. Another important difference is that money related or monetary bills must be made in
the House. It is like this because

Essay on Bird and Wildlife Management at Airports
On January 15, 2009, United Airlines flight 1549 ditched into the Hudson river immediately after take
off from New York s LaGuardia Airport only five passengers were seriously injured and seventy eight
passengers reported minor injuries. It was brilliant piloting of Captain Chesley Sullenberger that saved
everyone from a horrendous death but how did this event occur? From reports and interviews, the
aircraft suffered damage to both of the aircraft s engines. The cause of the failure to both engines, was
non other than a flock of Canada Geese that flew into both engines, during the first two minutes of the
flight. Bird and wildlife strikes have occurred ever since the beginning of flight. The first ever

Second, there is has also been a large increase in military and commercial aviation transportation.
Thirdly, due to more urbanization and city growth, natural birds and wildlife habitats have become
fewer. In this case, more birds and wildlife have began settling near airports. With the increase in
damages to aircraft from bird and wildlife strikes, how do airports prevent from future collisions with
bird and wildlife? Airports have many traditional ways of treating the issue. Some are environmentally
safe while others may cause controversy with environmental and government groups. Each does have
its pros and cons though. One method is the use of firearms. This method is quick but requires precise
accuracy and quick judgment Either shooting to scare or to kill and remove the animal, this method is
the least popular due to the fact that some wildlife are either endangered or under environmental
protection. For example a United States airport would lose it s public opinion if one of the animal
control employes opened fire upon an American Bald Eagle which happens to be the national bird.
The use chemicals is another method that is non violent to deter bird and wildlife. Some airports use
certain plants that produce chemicals and odors the makes wildlife uncomfortable and stay away from
the airfield. Though this method is non violent to birds and wildlife, it does have its set backs.
Chemicals used to spray around the airfield can

Career And Technical Education Program
Interest in Career and Technical Education programs as well as Career and Technical Student
Organizations has heightened over the past ten years (Wood, 2006; 2012). When I was a high school
sophomore, I sat in an Introductory Accounting course taught by a gruff teacher named Edward Key.
While everyone else complained and fussed at learning the Accounting Equation of Assets =
Liabilities + Owner s Equity, I hung on every debit and credit and soon discovered that my love of
numbers and financial matters could be turned in a profitable business. I soon began completing tax
forms for family members and continued through college. Supplementing my meager Work Study
wages and even worked part time in the University Bursar Office. I was then introduced to a student
organization and began to increase my leadership and interpersonal skills. Yes, I was a Career and
Technical Education student and did not even know it at the time. Why should students enroll in
Career and Technical Education programs of study is a question asked by many students, parents and
educators. Why are Career and Technical Student Organizations important for student growth and
overall maturation; and how does the combination of these two separate but deeply intertwined
entities help a student become a well rounded and productive person who contributes to the
workforce? These are all questions that educators, parents and industry partners realize can be
answered by combining enrollment in CTE programs

Albrecht s Giselle
Giselle is one of the most established consistently performed sentimental artful dance, it was debuted
on June 28, 1841, at the Paris musical show house. It was choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules
Perrot. It was choreographed for Carlotta Grisi as Giselle and Petipa as Albrecht. There was two acts
ballet, act one is set in a Rhineland village, where a young peasant, falls in love with a mysterious
stranger, who was really Albrecht, count of Silesia. When Giselle heard that, Albrecht was engaged to
a noblewoman then she loses her mind, and flies into a mad fit of grief and dies in Albrecht s arms.
After that, the second act was staged to perform at the graveyard, where Willis rouses Giselle s spirit

Sparta s Dependence On Persian Money
Sparta s dependence on Persian money in the last years of the war reflects another consequence of this
alliance. At the onset of the Peloponnesian War, Sparta positioned itself as the liberators of Greece.
They justified their aggression by claiming their primary objective was to free those living under
Athenian tyranny. Thucydides claims most Greeks hoped for a Spartan victory,
Men s feelings inclined much more to the Spartans, especially as they proclaimed themselves the
liberators of Hellas. No private or public effort that could help them in speech or action was omitted;
each thinking that the cause suffered wherever he could not himself see it. So general was the
indignation felt against Athens, whether by those who wished to escape from her empire or were
apprehensive of being absorbed by it.
After Athens defeat at Syracuse in 413, the pro Sparta sentiment intensified. Previously neutral cities
joined the Peloponnesians, and Sparta s allies contributed heavily in ships and money in hopes of
ending the war quickly. However, because Persian support inevitably also meant the abandonment of
Ionian Greeks to the empire, the alliance with the Asian king destroyed this goodwill and reduced the
willingness of their allies to contribute to the war effort.
The first official treaty, signed in the summer of 412, favored the Persians to a laughable degree. The
pact required Sparta to recognize all territory held by Darius ancestors as under Persian control. In

ENG 112
Professor Tara Grace
September 20, 2017 Poem: Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden The poem Those Winter
Sundays by Robert Hayden was actually about a little boy and his father who has an uninteresting
relationship with his dad. In this poem, it tells us the readers about things the father does for his family
most especially his son without being rewarded for his hard work. According to the poem, the speaker
fears his father so much maybe that is why the speaker(son) father become so wicked to them
especially the speaker(son) due to the much pains that his father went through for his family.
The thesis statement in the poem Those Winter Sundays is the strong love the father has for this
family mostly his son, and how he wasn t recognized by his family or his son.
The main character in this poem is the speaker. In the poem Those Winter Sundays was a man who
was reflecting on this past memory when he was a child and the uninteresting relationship between
him and his dad. According to the poem Those Winter Sundays the speaker says that from him being a
little boy to him be an adult now, he also said that he has learned a lot on how to appreciate the love
and cares his father s shows to his family mostly him when he was a very little boy. The speaker also
says that he has also learned how hard and difficult and lonely can the duties of any parental love can
be and how they are very borne out of their selflessness without any expectation or what so ever. No
one ever thanked him ( Line 5). The line sums up the speaker s relationship to his father. It also means
that the speaker didn t thank him, or even realize all that he d done for his family.
In setting the poem Those Winter Sundays the speaker told us the reader from the present, and also
told us about his childhood, how cold it was. How his dad always gets up every day in the cold the
weather. According to the speaker s explanation, the speaker makes us imagine him and his family
living in a very big, drafty, ramshackle y old house, with lots of fireplaces. The speaker says

Daniel Burnham s The Devil In The White City
Although The Devil in The White City has the title that would paint an image of fiction into your
mind, it is a true story told by real events that happened not so long ago in a galaxy not so far away. A
single goal became a widespread plague that swept the United States like a fire in a dry summer field:
they must out Eiffel Eiffel and create the best exposition the world has ever seen. The novel follows
architect Daniel Burnham and his ventures in creating history s greatest world fair, or one to at least
regain the pride the engineers of America lost to France when the Eiffel tower captured the awe of all
who bore witness. There are encounters of many unforeseen obstacles, including electrocution,
flaming ice, and the constant ticking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most would say that during this time Chicago cleaned up its streets and act as a whole. While this is
true, it did not stop Chicago from slumping back into old habits, losing more jobs, and forming a more
ugly face to where it stands today. Abandoned and disheveled homes and buildings now line the
streets of Chicago and create an eyesore that makes it seem impossible that this area once stood as a
symbol of America s great engineers and architects. In present day, I see the city in a post glory days
state. Essentially, the city is in its mid life crisis. To a certain extent Chicago did accomplish its goal to
bring back America s pride in their engineering and ingenuity. However, I would heavily argue that we
have lost to Paris in the long run due to their constant upkeep, clean streets, and seemingly endless
architecture based attractions. I d like to say that I can feel the same way they did when America
wanted to host the exposition to show other countries what a real fair looked like. We need to set a
solid example of how we run our cities, keep our cities clean, and keep in order what we stand for to
others. The city of Chicago means a great deal to me, and I would love to feel just as we did back after
the fair came to a close. I want to be able to brag about the city to others for how clean its streets are
and that you could eat a piece of pizza that falls on the ground and get a cleaner mouth from doing so.
For this reason, I feel connection to how both the Americans and Chicagoans felt before the fair was

Corrupt Bargain Research Paper
The election of 1824 introduced to the history of the United States what would be called the Corrupt
Bargain . After none of the candidates had been elected, only three of the four candidates were going
to have another chance to become president. When John Adams realized that he could not stand a
chance against Andrew Jackson, he proposed to Henry Clay, who had been eliminated from the list,
with an offer that Henry Clay could not resist. The plan was for Henry Clay to use his influence inside
the house to support John Adams in becoming president. Adams would make Henry Clay secretary of
state. Henry Clay knew that being secretary of state would eventually lead to becoming the president,
so he could not resist the offer. With the help of Henry

RFID application tests in hospitals have been proposed by many suppliers, such as medicine control,
patients contact history, patient identification, equipment/apparatus tracking, injection management,
doctor request observing, medical malpractice prevention, blood bag quality control, and operation
room work process; all of which concern primarily the wellbeing of the patients. Medical application
of RFID for patient health care enhancement is therefore the focal point of this study. The emergency
room is the most complicate and busiest place in a hospital. A patient goes missing and leaves
registration record but no clinical record is a frequent scenario in an emergency room. Such patients
frequently leaves without reason the hospital while holding up in line, inhibiting hospital management
from tracking the patient head count and location and making patient scheduling a troublesome
undertaking for the hospital personnel.
Hypothesis and Objective
The main objective is to control the accurate information of patients location in real time in a hospital

In hospitals today, RFID is all the more normally used to track equipment and staff then to track
patients. However the previous likewise enhances the flow by speeding the capacity to locate key

Water Displacement Lab
Introduction/Purpose The objective of this experiment was to learn how water displacement affected
density. Another objective was to identify the metals used in our experiments. We used a variety of
different metals to test their correlation and to find out if it was negative or positive. I did not expect to
learn much from this experiment as we had already discussed density in class and learned that water
displacement is basically volume so as it increased the density would have decreased had we used
metals of the same mass. I will share my newfound knowledge through this paper and I will discuss
my finding with my peers and other people who enjoy chemistry. We have been discussing both water
displacement and density in class; I assume the relevancy of this lab was to help people who learn
better kinesthetically a chance to learn the material in a way they learn best.
Background Information Density is the amount of matter per unit of measurement (Merriam Webster.
Merriam Webster, n.d. Web. 26 Aug. 2016.). If water has a density of 1.0 g/mL and you place a
substance with a density of 1.8 g/mL the substance will sink because it is denser than water. Density is
often measured in g/cm^3 or g/mL because the formula for density is D=m/v.
Hypothesis and Variables If the water displacement increases, then the density will decrease because
the mass will be divided by a higher volume causing a lower density. The independent variable is the
water displacement and the dependent

The Maternal Mortality Of South Africa Essay
2.1.1 Background on the maternal and infant/child health in South Africa There are numerous issues
surrounding maternal and infant health in South Africa. The maternal mortality ratio in South Africa is
estimated at 156.5 per 100000 live births (Pattinson et al 2012). It is suggested that 60% of maternal
deaths in South Africa are preventable (Amnesty International 2014). The three leading underlying
causes of maternal mortality in South Africa include: HIV/AIDS, hypertension and obstetric
haemorrhage (Pattison et al 2012). Approximately 30% of South African pregnant women and girls
are HIV positive (Amnesty International 2014; DOH 2013a). KwaZulu Natal is the province with the
highest prevalence of HIV at 37.4% for pregnant women (DOH 2013b). Hypertension and obstetric
haemorrhage can be avoided through appropriate nutrition and dietary related practices (Bradshaw et
al 2008).
In South Africa, one in three women have a mental problem during or shortly after the pregnancy
period [Field Honikman 2015; Mental Health and Poverty Project (MHaPP) 2010]. This statistic is
three times higher the rate in developed countries (MHaPP 2010). Mental illness is common in South
Africa since many women develop psychological stress during and after pregnancy (Field Honikman
2015). Women vulnerable to mental illness include those: living in poverty, experiencing violence or
abuse, with HIV/AIDS and those with unplanned pregnancy (Field Honikman 2015).

The Difficulty Of Producing One Definition Of Methodology
Clough and Nutbrown (2007, p.32) discuss the difficulty of producing one definition of methodology,
as every researcher will offer slightly differing definitions according to their own training, discipline
and purposes. However, Burton, Brundrett and Jones (2014, p.6) provide a basic overview, stating that
methodology focuses upon the identification of sources of evidence and how such evidence might be
gathered .
My research project will have a case study research design, which will lead to me gaining qualitative
data. Qualitative data, along with the case study design, ties in with my aims the most as I am seeking

My sample will include between fifty and sixty, Year One and Two, pupils who will be observed in the
classroom. Additionally, my sample will also include between ten and twenty members of Key Stage
One staff, who I will informally interview about their views on attitudes towards learning in Key
Stage One.
The data collection methods that I have opted to use for my project, have all been specifically chosen
and designed to present me with the best chance of obtaining a detailed scope of data. One of my data
collection methods is informal interviews, which will, hopefully, give me an accurate insight into the
views of Key Stage One staff; who have experienced differing attitudes towards learning. Informal
interviews are most suited to my project as Fraenkel, Wallen and Hyun (2014, p.449) discuss how
informal interviews can resemble casual conversations whilst allowing the researcher to find out what
people think and how the views of one individual compare with those of another .
Another data collection method, that I have chosen, is observations of the pupils. Firstly, I will ask the
teacher of the class if any of the pupils have any learning difficulties, as Hannell (2014, pp.212 215)
raises the fact that learning difficulties and/or differences can have an immense effect on attitudes
towards learning. If any of the pupils have got any learning difficulties/differences, this will be

there are a number of good poets also, like Dom Moraes, Nissim Ezekiel, P. Lal, Kamala Das, A.K.

A Farewell To Arms Research Paper
Forces such as love and religion are incapable of compensating for the ominous realities of life.
Frederic Henry says farewell to the battle arms and weaponry used in the war and to the arms of his
lover, Catherine Barkley throughout the course of the novel.
Thesis: The novel A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway uses imagery to illuminate the
emotional, physical, mental scars the world inflicts on all individuals.
Paragraph One: Stick: emotional scar on her heart

The relationship between Henry and Catherine initially served as a means of alleviating life s
difficulties such as the pain of war and grievances but grew into a reality with Catherine s pregnancy.
The doctor was sewing up the great long, forcep spread, thick edged, wound (325). This action makes
Frederic feel uncomfortable and is a reminder of the pain he has inflicted on Catherine. The physical
scar on her body has left a mental scar on Frederic after she passes away.
It was like saying good by to a statue (332). Statues represent a fallen hero and keep the memory of
the person alive. Catherine served as a hero in Frederic s life of the gentle, good, and brave qualities
she possessed.
After a while I went out and left the hospital and walked back to the hotel in the rain (332). Rain is a

My Reflection Of Writing A Class In The Classroom
When I started this classes, I was full of expectations, I did not have any idea what topic we could
discuss or how I can write my first homework. I could mention some improvement in my skills after
started this class; it helped to develop my creative thinking skills, I learned many things such as
writing objectively, making Quotation marks and coordinating my ideas better in this language. This
class has helped me to express my ideas more clearly in an essay, it has allowed me to create essay
organized and understandable to the reader. I did all my assignment on time although many times I
had to review them. In many times homework became hard for me and I had to ask my classmate to
help. I took the initiative to read material in youtube about this course but I think it did not help me
too much. I know that my grade is an accurately reflect of my performance. At the end of this course, I
expect to receive a final grade like B+, B , or C+ because I came all my classes, did my homework
and took my exam. I think I have learned a lot but I know that I should focus more on grammar.
I initiate this course without a clear idea of how I could really wrote a three page essay in English. I
can honestly say that this is the first time that a class has really scared me, always I have passed all my
courses but this class has really been difficult for me. In my first assignment I spent the whole night

The Pros And Cons Of Robots
Are autonomous robots the warfare altering weapon of this generation? In order to answer this
question there must be a clear definition of autonomous robots. An autonomous robot is a robot that
can perform any action without any human assistance and once weaponized they become autonomous
robotic weapons who act on their own. Knowing the current standing of autonomous robots, the
limitations on them, and how easily they can cause an autonomous robot arms race one would see how
a preemptive ban can protect the world. Although some would argue for the help these robots could
provide, there would always be a threat of malfunction. Therefore banning all applications
autonomous robots could protect the world from unnecessary deaths or increased future conflict.
The current standing of autonomous robots is fairly controversial. There are numerous groups arguing
over whether autonomous robots will help society or pave the way for a robot enforced martial law.
One group against the use of autonomous robots is the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots which argues
against the idea of anything other than a human being able to take a life (Goose Wareham, 2016,p. 32).
This group sees autonomous robots as a threat to humanity ,due to how weaponized autonomous
robotics could dehumanize the casualties they cause. While in contrast, the Department of
Defense(DOD) is highly interested in the idea of autonomous weapons being able to help remove
soldiers from war zones and lessen the number of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bv Vs Sky Tv
British Satellite Broadcasting VS Sky Television
Both the companies at the start go critically for the sake of having a good competition with each other.
BSB was the consortium established in 1986. It was given the exclusive license to be the first UK s
DBS channel operator. As the 1986 was the starting point so that proved critical enough to BSB and
therefore it suffered losses.
By getting a 15 years authority by IBA to commence its services on three DBS channels, all BSB
considered was a mega plan to take a start with 400,000 satellites in its first year s broadcasting and
2,000,000 in 1992, and 6,000,000 by 1995. But when it came to the reality, the table was turned
against the anticipations and BSB faced the losses of approximately £6 7 ... Show more content on

And by the merger these could also have been saved. Here, the merger is suggested as the best
solution because it has more advantages than the disadvantages. As another solution, we can also see
towards a scenario in which BSB could use the more sophisticated technology but with less cost and
with less other costs like depreciation, sub managing, satellites, advertising etc. and this all would be
possible only if it had the good management like its competitor, and BSB could have changed wholly
the nature of interaction if it had created some obstacles in the launch of the Sky Television. But when
we come to its after effects we see that there shall be definitely a reaction caused by prevention of
launching by the Sky Television and whereby the strict cold war between them could get a start that
would not be viable for both of the powers.
In 1990, BSB was enjoying the great market share but this all got tainted with the sudden arrival of the
Sky Television in the market. When both companies were in the market BSB was actually losing the
money mainly due to its high capital investment. SKY benefited a lot from the market monopoly.
Overall Sky had a dominant strategy but for BSB it was more complicated since the only way to be
profitable was to become a

Despite knowing the unreliability of eyewitness testimonies, investigators still narrow in on suspects
identified by these witnesses. To explain the effects of eyewitness testimony one can examine a few
conditional probabilities:
Prob(Police investigate all leads/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Police investigate all leads/No
eyewitness testimony)
Prob(Correct person convicted/Police investigate all leads) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police do
not investigate all leads)
Thus depending on specific numerical probabilities, it follows that:
Prob(Correct person convicted/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/No eyewitness
testimony)
Of course, eyewitness testimonies are not always unreliable and often can be crucial in correctly
identifying the perpetrator of the crime, thus these premises and conclusion are not to be taken at face
value, but as a way to conceptualize bad bias from eyewitness testimony. Mistaken eyewitness
testimony causes a large amount of bad bias by shifting focus onto one specific defendant. With all the
focus on one defendant, many cognitive biases come into play, such as confirmation bias and belief
perseverance. If a witness passionately claims that someone committed the crime, investigators are
likely to mold evidence to fit the case against that defendant, instead of identifying an alternative
suspect who

The Theory Of Infantile Sexuality
Although modern society disregards the theory of infantile sexuality and its relationship to neurotic
personality types, closer examination shows that a direct correlation exists. Freud s five stages of
infantile sexuality prove their significant impact on the eventual maturation of what is regarded as
adult psychosexual behaviors. Freud categorizes the stages of infantile sexuality as follows; oral, anal,
phallic, latency and genital. Each stage is represented by certain developmental behaviors, which are
innate in all normal functioning children. The complete transition of the libido from one stage to the
next is necessary to avoid fixation on a specific erogenous zone. Society s lack of attention to these
stages of adolescent sexuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I. The Five Stages of Infantile Sexuality
The initial encounter with sensual behavior brings forth the first leap into psychosexual behaviors of
the oral stage. This action is initiated by the infant s earliest pleasurable experience, nursing. The
unavoidable drive of the libido is drawn into the only sensation of pleasure to the infant s knowledge,
the stimulation of the oral cavity. In this sense the libido is concerned with the direction an individual
focuses their energy. The total satisfaction received the first time the infant nurses is what prompts the
oral stage. From the initial contact with a mother s breast, a child desires to recreate that same
stimulation. This feeling is the unconscious drive along the journey of psychosexual development. At
this age everything the infant does is dependent on caregivers. There is no sense of independence.
When teeth are formed, caregivers begin weening the infant away from relying on nursing as its form
of sustenance. The forceful way the authoritative figures introduce autonomy creates conflict. The
libido does not willingly detach from the oral fixation, and total dependent state. Once the primary
form of stimulation is no longer available the child substitutes it for whatever is nearest to him. This
accounts for why babies enjoy putting objects into their mouths; bottles, pacifiers, fingers, toes, and
keys. Because the sense of ego has not come into play, there is no desire

Wide Sargasso Sea Analysis
In Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys, culture causes belonging as well as insecurity. In this novel,
characters from the Caribbean and England are put side by side to highlight how strong cultures affect
those without one. Christophine and R hold strong ties to their identities through their ethnic
background, while Antionette is left wondering, who I am and where is my country and where do I
belong (61). Rhys uses the binary opposition of these two contrasting characters to convey that people
rely on their cultures for their identity and because of this, those who do not fit into a certain group
have trouble defining themselves.
Christophine, a former slave and servant to Antionette s family, relies on her Afro Caribbean roots to
dictate her beliefs and shape her as a person. When Antionette wants Christophine to help her using
obeah, Christophine tells Antionette that obeah is not for béké , using the word béké, a slang term for a
white person (68). Through this, Christophine separates herself from Antionette and defines herself
through her ethnic background. Although she is very close to Antionette, Christophine clearly
identifies with a different culture and therefore there is a distance between them that cannot be
removed. This culture is one that she identifies so strongly with that she will risk being caught and
thrown in jail for her beliefs. It is revealed by Daniel Cosway that Christophine was put in jail for
practicing obeah but she continues to practice this

Amistad Essay
The touchiest subject that a person could bring up in the early 19th century was slavery. Many in the
north were wholly against it while many in the south could not live properly without it. The Amistad
case intensifies the already bitter feelings between these two parts of the country, and it shows how
sectionalist our country had become. On one hand there were the northerners who couldn t believe that
these people were being held for freeing themselves, and on the other hand there were the southerners
who said that the Negro s were animals and should be sent back to Cuba to be hung. There were not
only two different attitudes on what should happen to the Africans, but each group also had different
opinions on how to handle the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Also, after the verdict, some people in Farmington, Vermont, started to get sick of the Africans. One of

Part 1 Gasoline Research Paper
Part One: Gasoline
1.
Gasoline is used in a wide array of appliances, for example, your car, tractors, and lawn mowers of the
like. This is a good thing because one substance that is composed of a liquid and a mix of alkanes and
cycloalkanes (5 12 carbon atoms) is that versatile. Some other advantages of gasoline are that it is
very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of time. It starts up
immediately, improves the mobility of smaller generating sets, relatively lighter and quieter in
comparison to diesel generating sets and engines, they also have a longer lifespan. However, nothing
is perfect and gasoline does have its flaws.

There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is that
the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process of
refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning
gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion reaction
to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the environment
and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still contributes to the
production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to the environment is
oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation.
There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen
oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned and
released through the combustion reaction. The main components of gasoline that combust in gasoline
are isooctane, butane, 3 ethyltoluene and an octane enhancer called MTBE (methyl tert butyl ether).

Racial Gap And Social Mobility
Talking of race or rather ethnicity in line with its effects in today s attainment of life chances and
opportunities by individuals for social mobility, we are prompted to conceptualize on matters
appertaining to civil rights of individuals in various fields ranging from job allocations, medical
attention, education, and distribution of resources. Social mobility refers to a tier in an open system of
social strata that involves movement of various categories of people in a societal set up and majorly
highlights issues to do with these people s status characteristics. The most pernicious racial divide in
the current world is in social mobility. This is in reference to the gap that coexists between a child
born white, and a child born black. Racial gaps today are rampant in various sectors and thus pose a
reflection of disproportionate representation of black families at the lower scale of income appendage
(de Souza Briggs, 37 42). The chances of moving up or down the family income ladder by race and
parent s quintile is unequal based on the skewed income distribution by race. A society can be in a
position of high absolute mobility and also low relative mobility. The availability of at least some
social mobility is key in providing conduits to greater equality in societies with high social inequality.
Social mobility however can typically be hypothesized in terms of its direction and distance based on
the quantity of the movement. There is complexity in trying to analyze the

The Squire is best described as a player with the ladies. The prologue says So hot he loved that, while
night told her tale, he slept no more than does a nightingale (4). In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the
Squire is the Knight s son but it is clear they want different things. The Knight wants his son, the
Squire, to be a brave and honorable knight serving the community, but the Squire wants to play his
flute and romance women. The flirty, outgoing Squire was a Knight in training. His father, the Knight,

Acute Myeloid Leukemia Essay
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is the most common form of leukemia in adults, approximately
20,800 people are diagnosed each year, leading to the lowest survival rate of all of the leukemias. It is
a category of cancer of the blood and also the bone marrow (the soft inner part of some bones), and
inside the spongy bone where blood cells are created. The average age for this type of leukemia is 65

Mr. Gotta Go Faster Than Anyone Else represents the simple yet dark humor of the late Roger Brown.
Brown painted this piece in 1986 during his first years of living in California after moving away from
Chicago. Brown was believed to be a social commentator by many in the late 1980 s because of the
way his art correlated with the events of the time, but he argues these claims by saying that his
artwork is simply a visual agenda (Calamities Conform to the Canvas). The artistic style of Brown

Gotta go Faster Than Anyone Else is also a very important detail that requires attention. In 1986 when

many governing agencies that had to do with woman s rights were closed. Brown put Mr in the title of
the piece because it was mostly men who were chasing their dreams and being supported during the
era. The woman in the bright red car is screaming at the man because he was the one who was in

piece a striking one by making it carry an important meaning with the state of woman in America at

The Importance Of Leadership In The Aeneid
What would you do if your homeland was destroyed and you were forced to seek another home in a
faraway country? Would it test your leadership skills? Would you become timid in the face of such a
tremendous task? Well, this is exactly what is faced by Aeneas in the epic poem, The Aeneid. Except
on top of every other obstacle in his way he is also responsible for getting all of the other survivors to
their new homeland. However, the whole story is overshadowed by a battle for power between the
Gods that Aeneas is caught in the middle of. While much of what Aeneas does throughout the poem
shows great leadership skills, he is still a human and has flaws. We see many of the Army s core
values as we look at Aeneas leadership style. It is these values that we will be talking about today.
First I will be talking about how duty affects Aeneas leadership style. Secondly, I will discuss how
respect affects his ability to lead his men through the trials and tribulations which they must endure
throughout the epic. Thirdly, I will talk about how we can see selfless service demonstrated through
his actions. Fourthly, I will be discussing how his honor dives his whole life and how we can see this
demonstrated throughout the story. Fifthly, I will give examples of how Aeneas Integrity shaped his
leadership style. Sixthly, I will talk about how personal courage is shown by the whole group of
Trojans that embarked on the journey. Finally, I will give a brief overview of how all of these

Valuing the interests of one group or oneself over another group or others without reason to justify
these differences in treatment is arbitrary. Why should the interests of others matter to me? Moral
views exist in the world that place people into groups, racism, anti
semitism, sexism, and nationalism. According to these views one group is deemed better or more
worthy than another. People might feel that belonging to one ethnic group, race or country makes
them more superior than another group. Racists for example like to argue that they are more superior
to blacks , and that blacks are stupid, lazy and crazy. In order to feel superior or to warrant taking
more rights and benefits for oneself a racist will argue that differences indeed exist between him and
the blacks and that these differences advocate different treatment. We know that these implied
differences are not actually true. If all relevant things are equal there is no reason to treat one better or
worse than another. Ethical egoists are guilty of discriminating on arbitrary grounds (race, ethnicity,
gender) Ethical egoism is similar in that we are told to value ourselves more than others and we then
divide the world up into two groups, oneself and the rest of the world. My interests (even wants for

Mary Seacole Essay
How far do the sources suggest that Mary Seacole was a great help to the men in the Crimea ? Mary
Seacole is praised in both sources 1 and 2, but in source 3 it seems that Nightingale disagrees in terms
of her method of helping the men, although she did some good. Source 1 and 2 both agree that she
was a great help but for different reasons. Source 1 is agreeing to this mainly because of the fact that it
is written by Sir John Hall who I Head of the Army Medical Services and we know that Seacole was
rejected by all hospitals, and he would not want to write about declining one of the most loved and

from Nightingale, and we know she s being honest because it is a letter that she instructed her brother

linked to the other 2 sources because it is at the time which Seacole was getting a rapturous reception
and in the other sources Seacole is getting praise but also all three sources state somewhere in their
content that she did help the men in the Crimea. Source 3 has both fragments of agreement and
disagreement and it differs from the other sources because it doesn t completely agree with the other 2
sources and it can be seen as an emotionally charged letter, as Seacole is getting so much praise in
England, so it could suggest she s jealous of the reception she s receiving back in England. As well as
this it seems that she is the odd one out, because everyone else has a huge love for Seacole apart from
her. Nightingale also adds criticisms to her methods of helping the men as she calls Seacole s hotel a
bad house and she says that she introduced much drunkenness and improper conduct which could be
showing her jealousy as she dismisses the fact that she helps the men, but she is ery picky on her
methods. In source 3,

Douglas MacArthur was an American general who commanded the Southwest Pacific in World War II
and was responsible for the successful Allied occupation of Japan and led United Nations forces in the
Korean War. Through great leadership and much controversy, MacArthur changed the course of
history for the U.S. and many other countries. He is considered one of the most important generals in
the history of the U.S. because his way of being influenced generations of generals to come. From
birth until death he was devoted to the U.S. army and lived a life devoted to helping our nation.
MacArthur was raised in a military household. His father being Captain MacArthur who fought in the
Civil War. His mother, just like his father, was extremely patriotic, making MacArthur salute to almost
anything at a young age. She would tell him things such as You must grow up to be a great man, .
Then she would give names such as your father, or Like Robert E. Lee. Even though MacArthur Sr.
And Robert E. Lee were on different sides of the Civil War, the fact that they fought for what they
believed them made them great. That s the idea his mother put in his head at a very early age. ... Show

from the beginning wished for his son to follow in his footsteps. Early signs that he would become and
obedient man and good soldier was the fact that he never rebelled as a child. MacArthur will end up
going to the Texas Military Institute and West Point. He dealt with a lot of awful things at school. His
attitude was one of a soldier which not everyone appreciated. This attitude caused him to deal with
tormentors who would make him recite his father s Civil War record. Being able to live through all of
this and sticking to it allows us to see the type of heart MacArthur had. He was never going to give up
on becoming a soldier in the U.S. Army. All of these early life experiences give us the man who we
know today who is responsible for many successes in U.S.

Pietas In Homer s Metamorphoses
Pietas is the duty to your family but more importantly it is the duty to the community you are in
Ancient Rome. In ancient Rome there is a large emphasis on serving for your community. In Ancient
Greece, an individual wanted Kleos for your own benefit. The opposite was wanted in Ancient Rome,
an individual wanted to serve their community and make sure all the people and the community was
taken care of. It can also be described as a persons respect for the natural order socially, politically,
and religiously. This includes the ideas of patriotism and devotions to others. In book four of
Metamorphoses, Pietas is challenged by the stories told by the three daughters of minyas while they
are weaving. All three of the stories told are love stories with unhappy endings. The first ... Show

Pyramus and Thisbe fall in love and are forced to run away to be together because their fathers do not
approve. The story of these two ends when Pyramus kills himself because he believes the lioness
killed Thisbe but that was not the case. Thisbe then returns and then sees Pyramus dead and she
proceeds to kill herself also. This story complicates pietas because first they ran away which is not an
act to help the community but more of a selfish act. Also, with both of them killing themselves, they
are doing a disservice to their family. The second story told was another love story about Venus, the
goddess of love, and Mars, the god of war. The sun, who can see everything that is going on on earth,
saw the two together and the sun told Vulcan who is Venus s husband. This story continues with all
different people trying to get revenge on each other and then finally ends with Leucothoe, who is the
daughter of the king of Persia, being buried alive by her father once he figures out she is not a virgin
anymore. This story complicates pietas because it shows many people

The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building
Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a
neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable; artists are better at being artists and developers
are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist? Just
the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is
currently in the middle of a Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this
Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco 1.5 million square
foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its
grand opening to marvel at its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years.
Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in the department store, it was an
economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for
22 years, became an eyesore that Crosstown co founder Todd Richardson describes as a beacon of
hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet expectations for the city . The surrounding
neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of
what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. Year after year, businesses boarded
up, houses deteriorated and neighbors lost hope. No one knew what to do; that is to say, until an artist,

Social Performance of Organization 2
Abstract
Corporate social responsibility is a crucial factor for corporations to build sustainability of their
business process that will help to create shared values for companies and society. Iraq is one of the
most countries in the world that needs this kind of sustainability to build and reform the infrastructure
economically and socially. But, unfortunately, the facts on the ground are quite the opposite, and these
corporations got affected by the corruption that has been eroding the country for years. In this study I
will try to spot the light on how these companies have been profiting in Iraq and escaping their social
responsibilities, also how can the stakeholders influence the financial performance of these
enterprises. I will explain about (Zain Iraq) and how it is doing a good job comparing it to other big
corporations in the country. Will suggest five ways in which the primary stakeholders can influence
the financial performance of the company.
This report will also explain about one of the main controversial social concern associated with this
company.

The Fall Of House Of Usher, By Edgar Allan Poe
As I have shown in the previous paragraphs of Cole and Poe, they are very different people who have
had contrary life experiences . Yet their works are still very similar. To further prove my case I shall
use some of their works as examples. Edgar Allan Poe s The Fall of House of Usher and Thomas Cole
s Vesper Hymn will be the first two works of art that are comparable. Poe s The Fall of House of
Usher possesses all of the Gothic elements like a haunted house, dreary landscape, unknown sickness,
and multiple personalities. The creepiest part of this story is its vagueness. There is no way of telling
where the house is exactly or when the story takes place. Poe uses an unethical approach in this story,
he asks us to question the reasons both for Roderick s decision to contact the narrator in this time of
need and the bizarre tenacity of narrator s response (sparknotes.com). While Poe uses standard Gothic
tale building blocks, he contrasts this with sudden and unexpected distributions. The story begins
without complete explanation of the narrator s motives for arriving at the house of Usher, and this
ambiguity sets the tone for a plot that continually blurs the real and the fantastic (sparknotes.com). Poe
makes the house seem like a monstrous character. It prevents the other characters from moving and
acting freely. Almost like the house is controlling the fate of the protagonist. Not only does the
narrator get trapped inside the mansion, but we learn also that

The Effects Of Sleep On Blood Glucose Levels
In laboratory studies of healthy young adults submitted to recurrent partial sleep restriction, marked
alterations in glucose metabolism including decreased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity have
been demonstrated (Spiegel et al. 2005). A pooled regression analysis in adults also suggests that a
reduction in one hour of sleep per day would be associated with a 0.35 kg/m2 increase in BMI
(Cappuccio et al. 2008). In Japan, a study of adolescents observed a dose response relationship
between short sleep durations and obesity (BMI 85th percentile for age and sex and a percentage body
fat 25% for men or 30% for women) after controlling for age, sex, parental obesity, sexual maturation,
physical activity, ethnicity, TV watching, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a lot of data of effect of physical exercise and eating on blood glucose levels and chances at
Type II diabetes. However, there isn t much much data on the effect of sleep on glucose levels and
Type II diabetes development rates. More data is needed on the impact on amount of sleep and this
experiment would do exactly that.
3. OUTLINE OF EXPERIMENT
A. HYPOTHESIS AND VARIABLES The following is the hypothesis of our experiment: It is
predicted that if people aged ten to eighteen years in America are allowed to only sleep less than eight
hours consecutively a night, then they will have a higher mean blood sugar level than those who sleep
eight hours or more consecutively a night. The independent variable of this experiment is the amount
of sleep the children receive every night. This is operationalized by having two control groups, with
children receiving 8 and 9 hours of sleep a night, respectively. Getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night is
the recommended amount of sleep for children, so we predict that there will be no drastic changes to
blood glucose levels. There will be two experimental groups, with children receiving 6 and 7 hours of
sleep a night, respectively. The dependent variable is the effect on the blood sugar level.
B. RESEARCH DESIGN AND FEASIBILITY This research project would be an example of
explanatory research rather than exploratory or descriptive research. It is not descriptive

Forbidden s No Triangle-Love
At first Forbidden seem to be another typical young adult paranormal romance, with the mysterious
guy and the new girl setting that may seem a little familiar. However in the end I feel it did a rather
good job on balancing the romance and the supernatural world building. I thought the writing was
colorful, and the story was very engaging. Not to say it didn t have it s moment, but overall I really
enjoyed reading this book.
What I liked about this book:
Interesting supernatural creatures √
No triangle love...yet √
Unique leading female character √
Interesting storyline √
Complex yet gripping supernatural world √
Forbidden has build a complex supernatural world with layers of suspense and mysteries, that will
keep you attentive throughout

  • 3. Intel, Monopolies, And Corruption Des Spicer Prof. Cox ENG 1102 9/20/17 Research Paper: Intel, Monopolies, and Corruption Throughout the last 50 or so years, tech companies have risen and fall, gaining fame and power, and marking their names in history book for achieving momentous tasks, often in which can still be seen today. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example of what American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with computer components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main attraction, Central Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. Not only does Intel have vast reach in the computer component market, but they have complete control of not only their production process, being for the most part self contained. From mining necessary resources, to shipping out their complete products from factories to their recipients, whether that be a store or an OEM. Intel is truly one of the most successful, if not the most successful Tech giant involved with Computer hardware. However, they only got to this place through nefarious actions, such as breaking contracts, playing the courts to their advantage, throwing their weight around, regardless of the legality of it, to meet their bottom lines. Considering that Intel is at such a high position, and has pretty much always existed at a fairly high position in the market, why? This paper will set out to find out the ... • 4. Difference Between The House And The Senate There are many differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate. For one the House of Representatives is bigger than the Senate. There is not a lot of media coverage in the House as it is in the Senate, members in the Senate are elected every six years as for the House are elected every two years. The House has a reputation of being much more contentious and impulsive when it comes to legislation (enotes.com). When it comes to electing a House Rep its by district, so winning that seat is a lot easier than the Senate, for simple fact you are going for a congressional district vote, and not a state wide vote. Another important difference is that money related or monetary bills must be made in the House. It is like this because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was brilliant piloting of Captain Chesley Sullenberger that saved everyone from a horrendous death but how did this event occur? From reports and interviews, the aircraft suffered damage to both of the aircraft s engines. Second, there is has also been a large increase in military and commercial aviation transportation. Thirdly, due to more urbanization and city growth, natural birds and wildlife habitats have become fewer. In this case, more birds and wildlife have began settling near airports. With the increase in damages to aircraft from bird and wildlife strikes, how do airports prevent from future collisions with bird and wildlife? Airports have many traditional ways of treating the issue. Some are environmentally safe while others may cause controversy with environmental and government groups. Each does have its pros and cons though. One method is the use of firearms. This method is quick but requires precise accuracy and quick judgment Either shooting to scare or to kill and remove the animal, this method is the least popular due to the fact that some wildlife are either endangered or under environmental protection. For example a United States airport would lose it s public opinion if one of the animal control employes opened fire upon an American Bald Eagle which happens to be the national bird. The use chemicals is another method that is non violent to deter bird and wildlife. Some airports use certain plants that produce chemicals and odors the makes wildlife uncomfortable and stay away from the airfield. Though this method is non violent to birds and wildlife, it does have its set backs. Chemicals used to spray around the airfield can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Career And Technical Education Program Interest in Career and Technical Education programs as well as Career and Technical Student Organizations has heightened over the past ten years (Wood, 2006; 2012). When I was a high school sophomore, I sat in an Introductory Accounting course taught by a gruff teacher named Edward Key. While everyone else complained and fussed at learning the Accounting Equation of Assets = Liabilities + Owner s Equity, I hung on every debit and credit and soon discovered that my love of numbers and financial matters could be turned in a profitable business. I soon began completing tax forms for family members and continued through college. Supplementing my meager Work Study wages and even worked part time in the University Bursar Office. I was then introduced to a student organization and began to increase my leadership and interpersonal skills. Yes, I was a Career and Technical Education student and did not even know it at the time. Why should students enroll in Career and Technical Education programs of study is a question asked by many students, parents and educators. Why are Career and Technical Student Organizations important for student growth and overall maturation; and how does the combination of these two separate but deeply intertwined entities help a student become a well rounded and productive person who contributes to the workforce? • 8. Sparta s Dependence On Persian Money Sparta s dependence on Persian money in the last years of the war reflects another consequence of this alliance. At the onset of the Peloponnesian War, Sparta positioned itself as the liberators of Greece. They justified their aggression by claiming their primary objective was to free those living under Athenian tyranny. Thucydides claims most Greeks hoped for a Spartan victory, Men s feelings inclined much more to the Spartans, especially as they proclaimed themselves the liberators of Hellas. No private or public effort that could help them in speech or action was omitted; each thinking that the cause suffered wherever he could not himself see it. So general was the indignation felt against Athens, whether by those who wished to escape from her empire or were apprehensive of being absorbed by it. After Athens defeat at Syracuse in 413, the pro Sparta sentiment intensified. Previously neutral cities joined the Peloponnesians, and Sparta s allies contributed heavily in ships and money in hopes of ending the war quickly. However, because Persian support inevitably also meant the abandonment of Ionian Greeks to the empire, the alliance with the Asian king destroyed this goodwill and reduced the willingness of their allies to contribute to the war effort. The first official treaty, signed in the summer of 412, favored the Persians to a laughable degree. The pact required Sparta to recognize all territory held by Darius ancestors as under Persian control. In addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most would say that during this time Chicago cleaned up its streets and act as a whole. While this is true, it did not stop Chicago from slumping back into old habits, losing more jobs, and forming a more ugly face to where it stands today. Abandoned and disheveled homes and buildings now line the streets of Chicago and create an eyesore that makes it seem impossible that this area once stood as a symbol of America s great engineers and architects. In present day, I see the city in a post glory days state. Essentially, the city is in its mid life crisis. To a certain extent Chicago did accomplish its goal to bring back America s pride in their engineering and ingenuity. However, I would heavily argue that we have lost to Paris in the long run due to their constant upkeep, clean streets, and seemingly endless architecture based attractions. I d like to say that I can feel the same way they did when America wanted to host the exposition to show other countries what a real fair looked like. We need to set a solid example of how we run our cities, keep our cities clean, and keep in order what we stand for to others. • 13. Water Displacement Lab Introduction/Purpose The objective of this experiment was to learn how water displacement affected density. Another objective was to identify the metals used in our experiments. We used a variety of different metals to test their correlation and to find out if it was negative or positive. I did not expect to learn much from this experiment as we had already discussed density in class and learned that water displacement is basically volume so as it increased the density would have decreased had we used metals of the same mass. I will share my newfound knowledge through this paper and I will discuss my finding with my peers and other people who enjoy chemistry. We have been discussing both water displacement and density in class; I assume the relevancy of this lab was to help people who learn better kinesthetically a chance to learn the material in a way they learn best. Background Information Density is the amount of matter per unit of measurement (Merriam Webster. Merriam Webster, n.d. Web. 26 Aug. 2016.). If water has a density of 1.0 g/mL and you place a substance with a density of 1.8 g/mL the substance will sink because it is denser than water. Density is often measured in g/cm^3 or g/mL because the formula for density is D=m/v. Hypothesis and Variables If the water displacement increases, then the density will decrease because the mass will be divided by a higher volume causing a lower density. The independent variable is the water displacement and the dependent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Maternal Mortality Of South Africa Essay 2.1.1 Background on the maternal and infant/child health in South Africa There are numerous issues surrounding maternal and infant health in South Africa. The maternal mortality ratio in South Africa is estimated at 156.5 per 100000 live births (Pattinson et al 2012). It is suggested that 60% of maternal deaths in South Africa are preventable (Amnesty International 2014). The three leading underlying causes of maternal mortality in South Africa include: HIV/AIDS, hypertension and obstetric haemorrhage (Pattison et al 2012). Approximately 30% of South African pregnant women and girls are HIV positive (Amnesty International 2014; DOH 2013a). KwaZulu Natal is the province with the highest prevalence of HIV at 37.4% for pregnant women (DOH 2013b). Hypertension and obstetric haemorrhage can be avoided through appropriate nutrition and dietary related practices (Bradshaw et al 2008). In South Africa, one in three women have a mental problem during or shortly after the pregnancy period [Field Honikman 2015; Mental Health and Poverty Project (MHaPP) 2010]. This statistic is three times higher the rate in developed countries (MHaPP 2010). Mental illness is common in South Africa since many women develop psychological stress during and after pregnancy (Field Honikman 2015). Women vulnerable to mental illness include those: living in poverty, experiencing violence or abuse, with HIV/AIDS and those with unplanned pregnancy (Field Honikman 2015). The infant mortality ... The data collection methods that I have opted to use for my project, have all been specifically chosen and designed to present me with the best chance of obtaining a detailed scope of data. One of my data collection methods is informal interviews, which will, hopefully, give me an accurate insight into the views of Key Stage One staff; who have experienced differing attitudes towards learning. Informal interviews are most suited to my project as Fraenkel, Wallen and Hyun (2014, p.449) discuss how informal interviews can resemble casual conversations whilst allowing the researcher to find out what people think and how the views of one individual compare with those of another . Another data collection method, that I have chosen, is observations of the pupils. Firstly, I will ask the teacher of the class if any of the pupils have any learning difficulties, as Hannell (2014, pp.212 215) raises the fact that learning difficulties and/or differences can have an immense effect on attitudes towards learning. • 20. The Pros And Cons Of Robots Are autonomous robots the warfare altering weapon of this generation? In order to answer this question there must be a clear definition of autonomous robots. An autonomous robot is a robot that can perform any action without any human assistance and once weaponized they become autonomous robotic weapons who act on their own. Knowing the current standing of autonomous robots, the limitations on them, and how easily they can cause an autonomous robot arms race one would see how a preemptive ban can protect the world. Although some would argue for the help these robots could provide, there would always be a threat of malfunction. Therefore banning all applications autonomous robots could protect the world from unnecessary deaths or increased future conflict. The current standing of autonomous robots is fairly controversial. There are numerous groups arguing over whether autonomous robots will help society or pave the way for a robot enforced martial law. One group against the use of autonomous robots is the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots which argues against the idea of anything other than a human being able to take a life (Goose Wareham, 2016,p. 32). This group sees autonomous robots as a threat to humanity ,due to how weaponized autonomous robotics could dehumanize the casualties they cause. While in contrast, the Department of Defense(DOD) is highly interested in the idea of autonomous weapons being able to help remove soldiers from war zones and lessen the number of ... • 21. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bv Vs Sky Tv British Satellite Broadcasting VS Sky Television Both the companies at the start go critically for the sake of having a good competition with each other. BSB was the consortium established in 1986. It was given the exclusive license to be the first UK s DBS channel operator. As the 1986 was the starting point so that proved critical enough to BSB and therefore it suffered losses. By getting a 15 years authority by IBA to commence its services on three DBS channels, all BSB considered was a mega plan to take a start with 400,000 satellites in its first year s broadcasting and 2,000,000 in 1992, and 6,000,000 by 1995. And by the merger these could also have been saved. Here, the merger is suggested as the best solution because it has more advantages than the disadvantages. As another solution, we can also see towards a scenario in which BSB could use the more sophisticated technology but with less cost and with less other costs like depreciation, sub managing, satellites, advertising etc. and this all would be possible only if it had the good management like its competitor, and BSB could have changed wholly the nature of interaction if it had created some obstacles in the launch of the Sky Television. But when we come to its after effects we see that there shall be definitely a reaction caused by prevention of launching by the Sky Television and whereby the strict cold war between them could get a start that would not be viable for both of the powers. In 1990, BSB was enjoying the great market share but this all got tainted with the sudden arrival of the Sky Television in the market. When both companies were in the market BSB was actually losing the money mainly due to its high capital investment. SKY benefited a lot from the market monopoly. Midterm Paper: The Effects of Eyewitness Testimony in the US Criminal Justice System On December 14th, 1982, Marvin Anderson was sentenced to 210 years in prison for crimes that he did not commit [1]. He was charged with rape, forcible sodomy, abduction, and robbery; these convictions were largely due to the eyewitness testimony made against him at trial [2]. During the investigation, a collection of photos was presented to the victim, where Anderson s photo was the only one in color. Then, in a line up 30 minutes later, Anderson was the only one brought in whose image was shown to the witness in the original array. Unfortunately, the witness then identified Anderson as the perpetrator, which acted as very convincing evidence in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite knowing the unreliability of eyewitness testimonies, investigators still narrow in on suspects identified by these witnesses. To explain the effects of eyewitness testimony one can examine a few conditional probabilities: Prob(Police investigate all leads/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Police investigate all leads/No eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police investigate all leads) Prob(Correct person convicted/Police do not investigate all leads) Thus depending on specific numerical probabilities, it follows that: Prob(Correct person convicted/Eyewitness testimony) Prob(Correct person convicted/No eyewitness testimony) Of course, eyewitness testimonies are not always unreliable and often can be crucial in correctly identifying the perpetrator of the crime, thus these premises and conclusion are not to be taken at face value, but as a way to conceptualize bad bias from eyewitness testimony. Mistaken eyewitness testimony causes a large amount of bad bias by shifting focus onto one specific defendant. With all the focus on one defendant, many cognitive biases come into play, such as confirmation bias and belief perseverance. If a witness passionately claims that someone committed the crime, investigators are likely to mold evidence to fit the case against that defendant, instead of identifying an alternative suspect who ... The Theory Of Infantile Sexuality Although modern society disregards the theory of infantile sexuality and its relationship to neurotic personality types, closer examination shows that a direct correlation exists. Freud s five stages of infantile sexuality prove their significant impact on the eventual maturation of what is regarded as adult psychosexual behaviors. Freud categorizes the stages of infantile sexuality as follows; oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. Each stage is represented by certain developmental behaviors, which are innate in all normal functioning children. The complete transition of the libido from one stage to the next is necessary to avoid fixation on a specific erogenous zone. Society s lack of attention to these stages of adolescent sexuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I. The Five Stages of Infantile Sexuality The initial encounter with sensual behavior brings forth the first leap into psychosexual behaviors of the oral stage. This action is initiated by the infant s earliest pleasurable experience, nursing. The unavoidable drive of the libido is drawn into the only sensation of pleasure to the infant s knowledge, the stimulation of the oral cavity. In this sense the libido is concerned with the direction an individual focuses their energy. The total satisfaction received the first time the infant nurses is what prompts the oral stage. From the initial contact with a mother s breast, a child desires to recreate that same stimulation. This feeling is the unconscious drive along the journey of psychosexual development. At this age everything the infant does is dependent on caregivers. There is no sense of independence. When teeth are formed, caregivers begin weening the infant away from relying on nursing as its form of sustenance. The forceful way the authoritative figures introduce autonomy creates conflict. The libido does not willingly detach from the oral fixation, and total dependent state. Once the primary form of stimulation is no longer available the child substitutes it for whatever is nearest to him. This accounts for why babies enjoy putting objects into their mouths; bottles, pacifiers, fingers, toes, and keys. Because the sense of ego has not come into play, there is no desire ... • 26. Wide Sargasso Sea Analysis In Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys, culture causes belonging as well as insecurity. In this novel, characters from the Caribbean and England are put side by side to highlight how strong cultures affect those without one. Christophine and R hold strong ties to their identities through their ethnic background, while Antionette is left wondering, who I am and where is my country and where do I belong (61). Rhys uses the binary opposition of these two contrasting characters to convey that people rely on their cultures for their identity and because of this, those who do not fit into a certain group have trouble defining themselves. Christophine, a former slave and servant to Antionette s family, relies on her Afro Caribbean roots to dictate her beliefs and shape her as a person. When Antionette wants Christophine to help her using obeah, Christophine tells Antionette that obeah is not for béké , using the word béké, a slang term for a white person (68). Through this, Christophine separates herself from Antionette and defines herself through her ethnic background. Although she is very close to Antionette, Christophine clearly identifies with a different culture and therefore there is a distance between them that cannot be removed. This culture is one that she identifies so strongly with that she will risk being caught and thrown in jail for her beliefs. Some other advantages of gasoline are that it is very common, making it easily accessible and more convenient for shorter periods of time. There are many way fuel can cause environmental harm this can come in many forms, but one is that the use of gasoline is affecting air quality by producing emissions. This is because the process of refining the crude oil releases toxins into the atmosphere and thus causing air pollution. Burning gasoline, starting your car and driving it creates a small controlled fire, causes the combustion reaction to occur, producing water vapor and the infamous Carbon Dioxide which is awful for the environment and people breathing it in. This is due to gasoline (which is cleaner than coal) it still contributes to the production of greenhouse gases. Another thing about gasoline that causes harm to the environment is oil spills that occur mostly when oil is lost during transportation. There are four main things that stem off of fuel emissions, these are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and unburned hydrocarbons. These are formed by the fuel being burned and released through the combustion reaction. Racial Gap And Social Mobility Talking of race or rather ethnicity in line with its effects in today s attainment of life chances and opportunities by individuals for social mobility, we are prompted to conceptualize on matters appertaining to civil rights of individuals in various fields ranging from job allocations, medical attention, education, and distribution of resources. Social mobility refers to a tier in an open system of social strata that involves movement of various categories of people in a societal set up and majorly highlights issues to do with these people s status characteristics. The most pernicious racial divide in the current world is in social mobility. This is in reference to the gap that coexists between a child born white, and a child born black. Racial gaps today are rampant in various sectors and thus pose a reflection of disproportionate representation of black families at the lower scale of income appendage (de Souza Briggs, 37 42). The chances of moving up or down the family income ladder by race and parent s quintile is unequal based on the skewed income distribution by race. A society can be in a position of high absolute mobility and also low relative mobility. The availability of at least some social mobility is key in providing conduits to greater equality in societies with high social inequality. Social mobility however can typically be hypothesized in terms of its direction and distance based on the quantity of the movement. There is complexity in trying to analyze the ... She and Elizabeth went on to campaign for full citizenship for women and for people of any race, including the right to be able to vote, in the fourteenth and the fifteenth amendments. Susan and Stanton were very disappointed when they found out that women were excluded from this. • 43. Pietas In Homer s Metamorphoses Pietas is the duty to your family but more importantly it is the duty to the community you are in Ancient Rome. In ancient Rome there is a large emphasis on serving for your community. In Ancient Greece, an individual wanted Kleos for your own benefit. The opposite was wanted in Ancient Rome, an individual wanted to serve their community and make sure all the people and the community was taken care of. It can also be described as a persons respect for the natural order socially, politically, and religiously. This includes the ideas of patriotism and devotions to others. In book four of Metamorphoses, Pietas is challenged by the stories told by the three daughters of minyas while they are weaving. All three of the stories told are love stories with unhappy endings. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pyramus and Thisbe fall in love and are forced to run away to be together because their fathers do not approve. The story of these two ends when Pyramus kills himself because he believes the lioness killed Thisbe but that was not the case. Thisbe then returns and then sees Pyramus dead and she proceeds to kill herself also. This story complicates pietas because first they ran away which is not an act to help the community but more of a selfish act. Also, with both of them killing themselves, they are doing a disservice to their family. The second story told was another love story about Venus, the goddess of love, and Mars, the god of war. The sun, who can see everything that is going on on earth, saw the two together and the sun told Vulcan who is Venus s husband. This story continues with all different people trying to get revenge on each other and then finally ends with Leucothoe, who is the daughter of the king of Persia, being buried alive by her father once he figures out she is not a virgin anymore. • 44. The Revitalization Of The Sears Concourse Building Is it possible for a community to entrust artists with the responsibility of redeveloping a neighborhood? After all, doubts are understandable; artists are better at being artists and developers are best at being developers. As a matter of fact, does an artist/real estate developer even exist? Just the mere thought seems impractical. Although this may be true in most cities, Memphis, Tennessee is currently in the middle of a Renaissance, and artists are leading the way. The anchor of this Renaissance is the revitalization of The Sears Concourse building. The Art Deco 1.5 million square foot structure built in 1927 was once a source of pride for the city, attracting 30,000 visitors at its grand opening to marvel at its decadence and eventually serving as a distribution hub for 50 years. Employing 1500 people and attracting thousands of visitors per day in the department store, it was an economic pillar of the Crosstown neighborhood. However, in 2010, the building standing empty for 22 years, became an eyesore that Crosstown co founder Todd Richardson describes as a beacon of hope that is now a disappointing reminder of unmet expectations for the city . The surrounding neighborhood would keep hoping sooner or later, someone would eventually solve the dilemma of what to do with so much space that had been empty for so long. Year after year, businesses boarded up, houses deteriorated and neighbors lost hope. No one knew what to do; that is to say, until an artist, art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Fall Of House Of Usher, By Edgar Allan Poe As I have shown in the previous paragraphs of Cole and Poe, they are very different people who have had contrary life experiences . Yet their works are still very similar. To further prove my case I shall use some of their works as examples. Edgar Allan Poe s The Fall of House of Usher and Thomas Cole s Vesper Hymn will be the first two works of art that are comparable. Poe s The Fall of House of Usher possesses all of the Gothic elements like a haunted house, dreary landscape, unknown sickness, and multiple personalities. The creepiest part of this story is its vagueness. There is no way of telling where the house is exactly or when the story takes place. Poe uses an unethical approach in this story, he asks us to question the reasons both for Roderick s decision to contact the narrator in this time of need and the bizarre tenacity of narrator s response (sparknotes.com). While Poe uses standard Gothic tale building blocks, he contrasts this with sudden and unexpected distributions. The story begins without complete explanation of the narrator s motives for arriving at the house of Usher, and this ambiguity sets the tone for a plot that continually blurs the real and the fantastic (sparknotes.com). Poe makes the house seem like a monstrous character. It prevents the other characters from moving and acting freely. Almost like the house is controlling the fate of the protagonist. Not only does the narrator get trapped inside the mansion, but we learn also that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Effects Of Sleep On Blood Glucose Levels In laboratory studies of healthy young adults submitted to recurrent partial sleep restriction, marked alterations in glucose metabolism including decreased glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity have been demonstrated (Spiegel et al. 2005). A pooled regression analysis in adults also suggests that a reduction in one hour of sleep per day would be associated with a 0.35 kg/m2 increase in BMI (Cappuccio et al. 2008). In Japan, a study of adolescents observed a dose response relationship between short sleep durations and obesity (BMI 85th percentile for age and sex and a percentage body fat 25% for men or 30% for women) after controlling for age, sex, parental obesity, sexual maturation, physical activity, ethnicity, TV watching, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a lot of data of effect of physical exercise and eating on blood glucose levels and chances at Type II diabetes. However, there isn t much much data on the effect of sleep on glucose levels and Type II diabetes development rates. More data is needed on the impact on amount of sleep and this experiment would do exactly that. 3. OUTLINE OF EXPERIMENT A. HYPOTHESIS AND VARIABLES The following is the hypothesis of our experiment: It is predicted that if people aged ten to eighteen years in America are allowed to only sleep less than eight hours consecutively a night, then they will have a higher mean blood sugar level than those who sleep eight hours or more consecutively a night. The independent variable of this experiment is the amount of sleep the children receive every night. This is operationalized by having two control groups, with children receiving 8 and 9 hours of sleep a night, respectively. Getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night is the recommended amount of sleep for children, so we predict that there will be no drastic changes to blood glucose levels. There will be two experimental groups, with children receiving 6 and 7 hours of sleep a night, respectively. The dependent variable is the effect on the blood sugar level. B. • 48. Forbidden s No Triangle-Love At first Forbidden seem to be another typical young adult paranormal romance, with the mysterious guy and the new girl setting that may seem a little familiar. However in the end I feel it did a rather good job on balancing the romance and the supernatural world building. I thought the writing was colorful, and the story was very engaging. Not to say it didn t have it s moment, but overall I really enjoyed reading this book. What I liked about this book: Interesting supernatural creatures √ No triangle love...yet √ Unique leading female character √ Interesting storyline √ Complex yet gripping supernatural world √ Forbidden has build a complex supernatural world with layers of suspense and mysteries, that will keep you attentive throughout ...
