Power In The Count Of Monte Cristo
What is considered power? How important is power? It writes history and causes conflicts.
Money, wealth, success, and titles do not classify power, as opposed to common misconceptions.
A true display of power requires control, influence, respect, and ability. In Alexander Dumas The
Count of Monte Cristo, the main character, Edmond Dantes, is an excellent portrayal of these all
aspects. Napoleon, depicted in Russia 1812, written by Victor Hugo, is known throughout the
world as a dominant revolutionary war general and strikes as an image of respect. Aksenof, the
unfortunate character in Leo Tolstoy s The Long Exile, exhibits an ascension to control, despite his
series of disastrous events, when he becomes the dominator of his enemy. These characters from
literature are clear examples... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Long Exile, Aksenof spares Makar, the man who had framed him for murder, from being
flogged to death. This act of kindness guilt trips Makar into begging forgiveness for his acts.
Ivan Dmitritch, forgive me! When they flogged me with the knout, it was easier to bear than it
is now to look at you... And you had pity on me after all this... you did not tell on me... Forgive
me for Christ s sake! Forgive me, though I am a cursed villain! And the man began to sob (Tolstoy
811). Aksenof, whose destiny had once been sentenced by Makar, now dominated Makar s life. Not
through force and revenge, but pity and forgiveness, Aksenof had successfully obtained control
over his enemy. In The Count of Monte Cristo, the count s final act of vengeance reveals his
immense power and control. Stand up, said the count. Your life will be spared. Your two
accomplices weren t so lucky: one of them is insane and the other is dead! (Dumas 434). Danglars
is merely another string for the count to pull, and his fate demonstrates the count s absolute power
and dominion over his

The Film A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers
Why do parents get frustrated when their children don t stick to their traditions and culture they
were taught when they were younger? As a child people would often say listen to your parents,
but sometimes they are the ones that are wrong. Parents always seem to have the most trouble
accepting how their children turned out to be. Wayne Wang made the film A Thousand Years of
Good Prayers. A Thousand Years of Good Prayers shows the relationship between Mr.Shi who
was played by Henry O and Yilan that was played by Faye Yu. At the beginning of the film it
shows the father who has arrived from Beijing, China to visit his daughter in the United States. The
father, Mr.Shi, is an educated man who use to be a scientist in his younger days. His daughter

The Dangers Of Complacency In The Military
The Dangers of Complacency Complacency is a common theme throughout life whether it be
civilian or military. Merriam Webster defines complacency as a feeling of being satisfied with
how things are and not wanting to try to make them better: a complacent feeling or condition
(Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d.). This state or feeling can be as simple as wanting to
maintain the status quo. While it is important in civilian careers to battle complacency, it is of the
utmost important to remain vigilant against complacency for military members because so many
lives are at stake. This is why it is important for military members, not just leaders, to identify the
dangers of and the ever growing status of complacency while implementing strategies to prevent
and correct complacency. Complacency Causes Facing the Army One of the most frequent causes
of complacency is over confidence. This can be seen in individuals and units after becoming
comfortable with the operational tempo. One way this is manifested is by skipping Pre Combat
Checks (PCCs) and Pre Combat Inspections (PCIs) because everyone is experienced and gear no

Standards are the first line defense and when followed will ensure that individuals and units are
capable and prepared to function in the rigors of combat. Moreover, keeping Soldiers proactively
engaged can reduce complacency. Too much down time commonly results in not wanting to do
anything. By keeping Soldiers active and engaged with the unit, Soldiers remain motivated and goal
oriented. Finally, it is imperative to continue training. This includes conducting refresher training to
ensure skills are always fresh, but also conducting training that focuses on new or unexpected
events. This type of training encourages individuals and units to constantly prepare for the
unexpected and never settle for what seems adequate at the

Budget Deficit
Budget Deficit
For many decades, there has been a concern for the deficit within the United States. Many
politicians, authors, newscasters, and citizens have expressed their distress in order to resolve or
control the issue. Keynesian economic theory states that running a budget deficit is okay, as long as
the deficit is not exorbitantly large and is not carried for a long period of time. Even though many
experts agree with this notion, having a deficit at all is important to the present and future economic
stability of a country. For the most part, the uncontrolled increases in spending and reckless tax cuts
in the past have damaged the federal budget, which the White House and Congress have allowed to
occur. President Bush has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after the economy has recovered, the deficit becomes a problem. In the event that the
current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the
production of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise,
which will make it harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will
increase the strain on the American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government
to intervene, due to the already high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal
government are slated to grow from $155 billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359
billion. These extra costs are the result of both rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the
federal government. In order to sustain the economic power and prosperity that the United States
has created, major change must be implemented by government leaders, not by career politicians.
When a budget is in deficit there are only two ways, other than faster growth in the economy, to
bring it into balance. Spending must be cut or revenue increased. Obviously, cutting spending to
many of the current governmental programs is difficult because they have already been
implemented and deemed necessary. Increasing taxes is also a difficult issue for politicians to
handle and for the public to accept. There needs to be a healthy mix of these two options that keeps
the economy powerful, while

Survival of Earthly Life Depends on Science and...
Running Head: SURVIVAL AND SCIENCE Nature Articles Name of Student School Introduction
The unprecedented upheavals in the environment in the last few decades cannot escape anyone s
notice. Widespread and increasing global pollution, natural disasters of unusual intensities in
more and more places, new and deadlier diseases, disappearance of animal and plant species, and
disturbing signs even in the skies are among these. Seven serious observers publish respective
opinions on the nature of these threats and recommend solutions. From their pronouncement, a
common thread can be gleaned. Survival of earthly life today largely depends on science and
technology. Body At the current rate of degradation, about 20% of the earth s surface is predicted
to become extinct (Thomas et al, 2004). This was the finding of a study conducted on the effects
of climate change in sample regions. The prediction placed the probability of extinction in three
ranges, namely, about 18% minimum, 24% mid range, and 35% maximum. The investigated
regions were the Queensland forests, Brazil for its vegetation, and South Africa for its Proteaceae
species. The authors predicted that climate warming would add to other already recognized threats
to global biodiversity. Loss of habitat is considered the greatest threat to the species in most
regions. The interaction between threats is also predicted to produce the strongest impact of
climate change. The affected species ability to take refuge in

The Effects of Fast Food
The Effects of Fast Food Fast food is taking over today s society these days people are buying it
more and more and as they keep buying it they are gaining weight like crazy and the food
becomes addictive. The food at the fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King and
Taco bell etc. produces artificial foods meaning there are no real ingredients in the food they serve
to their customers. Fast food is not healthy for people because people are gaining weight
excessively, the food contains unhealthy contents, and all the unhealthy ingredients can cause
diabetes or other serious health issues. Fast food causes people to gain weight excessively. If the

Overtime eating many artificial foods and neglecting to exercise can result in weight gain. The
artificial foods are factory made and does not have any of the nutrients and ingredients that
grown organic foods have. Processed meats are also a part of artificial foods that is why many
people hunt for their meat instead of buying it from the store after its been through a factory.
Sometimes you have to put in the extra work to grow your own food and hunt for your meat in
order to have the healthiest outcome. Certified organic foods are mandated by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture to be grown without chemical pesticides, herbicides, hormones,
antibiotics or other artificial substances. Organic foods are usually more nutritious than artificial
foods because the refining and manufacturing or artificial foods often strips them of nutrients.
Organic foods are more expensive because they cost more to grow harvest and manufacture. The
most notable differences between artificial and organic foods are content nutritional value and
how they affect the body. Over 20 million Americans or 7 percent of the U.S. live with diabetes.
If you have the rare form called maturity onset diabetes of the young your child had almost a 1 in 2
chance of getting it too. Type 1 diabetes develops slowly and people only discover it from a doctor
s visit. Type 1 occurs because the pancreas stops producing insulin. In most cases of type 1

Great Pacific Garbage Patch
For my service event, I attended a beach cleanup event in Indianola, which is in Kitsap County.
When I arrived, I met with twenty other participants and received instructions from a local
community member. We were given gloves, large orange plastic bags, smaller plastic bags, and
flags. The larger bags were for the garbage we collected, the smaller bags were for recyclable
items (such as aluminum cans and glass bottles), and the flags were for needles and similar items
that we could not collected safely. We divided into two group and headed in opposite directions
up the beach to collect all the debris we could find. Over my stretch of beach, I mostly found

However, beyond that, this is a subject that is of great importance to me. My long term goal is
to become a marine biologist and as such the health of the ocean is of the utmost importance to
me. Over the last few years I have chosen to research and write about environmental issue. One of
the main issues I researched was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics in the ocean
affect marine life. Because of that, I understand the true impact that any debris, and particularly
plastics, have in the ocean. They entangle animals, hinder their digestion, and transport of
invasive species, to name just some examples. For these reasons, I believe that preventing debris
from entering the ocean is paramount. I realize that participating in one beach cleanup is not
going to save the ocean and the real problem lies in how humanity is using plastics. However, I
want to help contributions the wellbeing of the ocean. Ultimately, that is why I participated in a
beach cleanup event. Furthermore, Indianola is close to my home, so I was not only benefitting
the ocean, but my local community as well. While I cannot solve the ocean garbage problem, I
would like to be part of the solution, not the problem. Participating in beach cleanup events is my

Research Paper On The American Dream
American Dream. America, the dreamland for those who have been oppressed, for those who have
been judged, for those who have no freedom. The United States was founded by immigrants that
came with dreams in the search of freedom and wealth. The American dream exists, maybe it varies
from one culture to another, but many persons witnessed how it became a reality. A plethora of
people thinks is a myth, however, most immigrants know that it exists. The American dreamis
defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism
and the prosperity or life that is the realization of this ideal . However, Americans define it as an
opportunity for success, as an opportunity for freedom. As Adams, James Truslow say America is
That dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with
opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated on his
speech I have a dream that the American dream was about hope, brotherhood, faith; about working
together, struggle together, and stand up for freedom. The aforementioned signifies that the
American dream that Dr. King implied is one in which all citizens in the nation help each other,

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders Book And Movie
The OUTSIDERS , a book and movie, portrays a small gang going through hard times. The Book
and Movie may have the same plot but have small yet noticeable differences. Both stories take
place around Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. These should be compared to show why sometimes
movies get things wrong and why the book tends to be better, in this case they both stick to the
plot with only a few missing or added details, such as the book is slower paced but has more
detail, the movie misses or adds small details, and the movie destroys your thought of what
characters look like.
The movie is fairly similar to the book except for a few exceptions. One of the main things is that
the movie is less detailed and is faster paced. Another thing is that pony never went to the hospital
after the fire and didn t have a concussion. When Dallas was driving to the hospital with Pony and
he got pulled over by the police who was on a motorcycle. While At the hospital Johnny s mom
comes to visit him but Pony and Dallas don t talk to her. When Dally leaves he goes and robs a
store and the police are after him. Then when the police catch him he raises his unloaded
handgun and the police shoot him. He gets shot once and does a few rolls stands up and gets
shot more. The gang goes home after finding Dally and Ponyboy starts writing the Outsiders . In
the book The Outsiders there is more detail and the plot seems to go at a slower pace than the
movie. The greasers are from the west side of town while

A Study On Becoming A Librarian
Introduction
There is more than one type of librarian and they play many roles this day and age. They were
once thought of as being the keeper of knowledge and were the go to persons for any and
everything. Some specialize in areas of interest such as cataloging, allocation, archives, and even
special collections. While others, depending on what type of library they work in conduct all of the
above job functions and more. With the advancement of technology and its forever growing
spear, librarians are being expected to know how no matter the size of the duty or request.

263). How much technology should a librarian be able to understand and implement in their daily
duties? Is learning the basics of technology enough or should librarians have extensive training
and knowledge in the advancement of technology as well as becoming involved with its ever
increasing span? These are just a few of the examples of what is being sought after from librarians
when being considered for positions. A librarian should have a holistic approach to working within
the field and become forever students of learning the newest technology. This, in fact, will allow
them to become more marketable when seeking employment in various venues of the library world.
Training and Education
Whether it is a public librarian, academic librarian, a law librarian, a librarian working in the
business field, or a medical librarian, it is the norm for librarians to understand the dynamics of
technology. Not only are librarians required to have knowledge of the newest technology, they are
also being required to be able to use it. Sometimes there is a gap in what is being taught to future
librarians in their school programs and what is being required of them within the job sector. In
order to sustain as a competitor within the workforce, librarians need to be prepared to reach
beyond the classroom guidance along with teaching and seek outside resources for further

Poverty And Importance Of Education
My hometown of Lawrence is a vibrant immigrant city, with its proud roots now riddled in
poverty and corruption. The poverty level in the city is one of the highest in Massachusetts,
violent crime has been on the rise for years, and the high school dropout rate is more than 50
percent. Growing up, many of my classmates struggled with schoolwork as a result of the language
barrier and lack of funding for transitional bilingual educationprograms. Countless children, with
limitless potential, eventually learned to see the futility in participating in a system which had
abandoned them. I was lucky enough to be accepted into Bellesini Academy, a schoolwhich
provides support for low income, at risk inner city students and helps its students gain acceptance
into private collegepreparatory high schools on scholarship. Without this opportunity I am not sure
what would have become of me. I would not have been able to attend the Groton School and may
not have been blessed with the opportunity to attend Boston College. My experiences in the
Lawrence education system continue to shape my views on the importance of education, while
inciting my political consciousness and engagement in my community. I plan to further study
education policy in graduate school and, hopefully, be able to attain extensive knowledge of
government policy in order to improve the education standards in my hometown. I would love to
be a member of my City Council after obtaining my degree. In general, I know

Yes, Mandela
Yes, Mandela
Essay
Nelson Mandela became a legend long before he passed away and to most of the world he is known
as the greatest hero of South Africa. According to the Oxford dictionary a hero is:
1 a person especially a man, who is admired by many people for doing sth brave or good. [...] 3 a
person, especially a man, that you admire because of a particular quality or skill that they have.
There were several political prisoners imprisoned on Robben Island both before, during and after
Mandela served on the island. But why was Mandela the only one to become a living legend?

It is crucial to see the poem in a historical and political context to be able understand the imagery
and metaphors used in the poem. Imagery and metaphors are commonly used in poetry, and so
it is in Dennis Brutus Yes, Mandela . Imagery describes the prison years as ...a blanket
cobwebbed of pain and grime. The horrifying description of the prison years is a contrast to the
description of Mandela s appearance when stepping free ...you step free so erectly, so elegantly
. The contrast reinforces the picture of a physical and mentally strong and elegant Mandela.
Contrasts are also used later to underline his strong personality once again ...impress your
radiance on the grey morning air . Brutus describes the sand on the island as harsh, white and
treacherous which metaphorically refers to the apartheid regime. Mandela conducted hard labor
during his time on Robben Island, which we see is referred to in another metaphor describing the
sufferings caused by the apartheid. The violent regime was like jagged rocks and krantzes bladed
crevices of racism and deceit , not only to Nelson Mandela but to all races except the white.
The poem is published in 1991, one year after Mandela s release. The poem is rather short, with
only three stanzas and 20 lines. This is however fairly characteristic for a lyrical poem. It is a
lyrical poem because it doesn t tell a story from beginning to end, but it expresses the speaker s
state of mind and emotions linked

Collaboration of Buying Suppliers in South African...
While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns,
the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude
Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011),
GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and
pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010).
Government persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality
of the situation is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or
they aren t as competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason
being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain
competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011).
The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple
effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003).
To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer
service levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs
which negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. The reason South Africais not
competitive is due to the low percentage of local content in a final product), (Pitot, 2010). If

Upon driving into the small neighboring outlet behind the main N. Germantown Pkwy, stood an
African restaurant in bulky, bold letters that read: Ethiopian Restaurant Coffee; each word a
different color of the Ethiopian flag: green, yellow, and red. Standing in front of the empty
restaurant, I was bombarded with several modern advertisements on the clear, see through

Free Wifi Inside , We Deliver , and XFINITY WIFI is here . In addition to the advertisements, the
door held two open signs one electric and one plastic along with the name Nani Hareg in striking
gold and red letters, and upon further research on the restaurant, it represented the name of the
current manager. Reaching for the rectangular door handle, I was instantly greeted with bell
chimes and a African waitress who seated me in chairs covered with white textiles in the center of
the room. Having given me the menu, she had went away to turn on modern pop music and the
lights near the counter. Once seated inside, I scanned the room. The windows were covered with
deep red and white striped curtains neatly tied with a red, yellow, and green patterned cloth in a
elegant fashion. The walls were a deep maroon with a slight orange tint decorated with paintings of
African ancestors and sacred animals, posters of national monuments, and vividly imitated flowers.

Since box office numbers were so low, studios would start to defy the PCA s production codes
and release uncensored movies. In 1956, due to a large measure of success in a few mature

This change was minor and only allowed the limited use of the words hell and damn. When the
PCA started to lose control over the film industries productions the MPAA hired Valenti to fix
the box office problems and modernize the PCA. In 1966, six films were released with the new

Power And Control Issues
Within a person s life there are many instances of major change as well as power and control
issues. These impact on a person in many ways, however it is difficult to choose one instance and
state that due to that event I am now... this is because change occurs gradually and while we are
impacted by events an individual cannot state that all behaviours arose from the one event. The
event may have impacted the person in a significant way and the person s behaviour changed by
these behaviours, however, they were probably re enforced over time and so became their new

control (Bannister, 1983; Zur, 2015). A limitation that I noted in myself is that I wasn t assertive
enough in the job, in the beginning I believed what the boss said about my qualifications and just
continued on. I worked to overcome this limitation and believe that I am doing much better with it
than I was in the beginning. This would be a limitation in therapy as it s important to be open as
possible and to set boundaries when working with clients (Hermansson, 1997; Zur,

Essay On Racial Profiling
It is frequently said that the way you approach someone is the way that they get their first
impression of you. So if you come off negatively at first, that lessens the chances of a person
liking you. This can also relate to the way someone perceives what type of person you are,
dependending upon looks, clothes, and of course race.
The act of racial profiling has become more serious than ever; although this problem has been
around for centuries, racial profiling has recently gained attention in the news. You may think that
the cases broadcasted on the news are the only major cases of racial profiling and that it doesn t
happen very often, but in reality it happens quite a bit.

I never knew that there was a big social differentiation between who hung out with who
dependent upon race. To be very blunt, the ratio of black to white people in my school was
about 4:1. I was a very quiet girl especially during my sixth grade year. In seventh grade I began
to open up more, but this caused frequent altercations. As people began to know my name I
recruited names such as preppy and white girl . I found the phrase white girl to be ironic
considering the fact that I am fully Hispanic. When I corrected anyone who believed I was
white, I would often get I didn t know you were mexican, you look like you re white! . These
accusations and the shocked looks on the faces of those who knew the truth never disappeared.
Being a Senior in High School and knowing most of my fellow classmates, I still frequently get
the same comments or faces of those who have never thought twice about my race because I look
white or I act white . Through the years of receiving comments like this, I ve come to the
realization that these judgements of people based upon their appearance happen all of the time. I
will admit to doing this myself and giving the same comments as I have gotten. These racial
judgements don t just come with African American or Caucasian

Medea s Manipulation In Jason And The Argonauts
Medea is quite often called Euripides s magnum opus for a multitude of reasons, and the fleshing
out of Medea is one of the most prominent. He created a juxtaposition portraying Medea as both a
victim of society and a cold, cunning, manipulative killer. This brought the issues of slavery, women
s rights and equality to light in ancient Greece. Euripidess masterpiece drama builds on Medeas
important role in Jasonand the Argonauts. Now, however, Medea is Jason s antagonist, murdering
his new wife, children and father in law. Medea does this through careful manipulation and

She then receives their blessings, with the chorus, knowing that her vengeance will be just. With

lines, she is Creon and his emotional ties to his children in order to stay in Corinth for one more
day, in order for her to enact her revenge on Jason. Medea continues her manipulative rampage

eminent exile, while at the same time offering a deal to end his childlessness. She manipulates
him through his emotions and by enticing him with a potion that will end his childlessness in
order to secure herself a home in case her scheming puts her into danger. Aegeus, like Jason and
Creon, accepts her deal, and Medea s manipulation succeeds again. Right after securing her safety,
she encounters Jason again. She apologizes for disagreeing with him and not accepting his logic

manipulate emotions, this time convincing Jason to let them deliver the cursed gifts to his new

Unit s Preparedness Training At The Mobilization Training...
Furthermore, each unit is required to balance tasks and benchmarks selected by their respective
Adjutants General along with those prescribed by First Army. Generally, deploying units undergo
four to eight weeks of medical, administrative, and classroom preparation on top of technical and
tactical skill refresher training spanning the year prior to mobilization. Once activated, Soldiers
conduct immersive, training scenarios before receiving individual training certification.
Meanwhile, theater specific mobilization training and validation of unit s preparedness occurs at

Why Is William Kidd Alive
William Kidd
England in the 18th century, pirates were alive, and the british empire was expanding. There were
many new techniques that were brought in from immigrants that increased the productivity. Many
pirates sailed the waters in search for treasures.
Scotland 1654, William Kidd was born. Little did his parents know how big his future would be.
William grew up to be a pirate, Kidd and his crew set sail around England in the 1700 s. Kidd and
his crew attacked the Quedagh Merchant, a large American ship located on the Indian Ocean,
he found out he was on the wrong side of the british government. He was later hanged in London,
1707. Before Kidd died he kept a journal about his life. I do not care so much for the death of my

In the book, the main character was a cabin boy while in real life Kidd was the captain. Kidd was
very famous and many people favored him. He was nice to everyone who was nice to him. The
book and Kidds life are kind of similar because they both sailed on ships. They both had a big
crew, but in the novel the pirates and british betrayed eachother while in real life Kidd and his crew

The Detrimental Effects Of Teenage Addiction
This century is riddled with various problems and it just gets worse as these issues are starting to
affect people at younger ages. Perhaps one of the greatest issues we face is addiction. Whether the
addiction is to drugs or alcohol teenagers and young adults have been exposed to various forms of
media that say it s ok to consume the product because it is safer than other things. Communications
and Biomedicine form a sort of alliance against such advertisements using scientific data and
portraying that to their audience. Groups such as The Truth Movement or the World Health
Organization have commercials on channels directed toward a teen audience before the addiction
has a chance to take over. By performing studies on the teenage population and seeing how those
substances can have detrimental effects on young bodies. Once the group receives data they are

Real Courage Research Paper
Courage is a highly debated topic in modern day society. Phrases such as, Was that really
courage? or I could have done that, prevent us from seeing true courage. Courage is not always a
heroic win of a battle, or even the fight against terrible diseases. Courage is the willingness to
stand up for what is right, and to get back up, even when things go wrong. Courage is, and always
will be, one of the great gifts of the Holy Spirit, and can be shown be ordinary people in their
everyday lives. Some people are chosen to be saints because of their great courage. While many

imprisonment and illness.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe lived in Poland during WWII. He was sent to a death camp by the Nazis.
When ten men in his cell were chosen to be executed, Maximilian offered to take the place of a
man who had a wife and two children. The Nazis were more than happy to oblige. Mother Teresa

Theories Of Origin Of Species By Charles Darwin
The ancient thinkers based their understanding of psychology on a philosophical hypothesis. While
the ancient philosophers like Hobbes, Plato, Schopenhauer and the rest could describe and predict
the different behaviors and mental experiences, none of them could explain the reason behind the
particular behaviors. Charles Darwinwith his ideas in the Origin of Species gave a new dimension
to the understanding of human and animal behavior and the field of psychologybased on the
foundation of his evolutionary theory (Buss, (2009)).
Charles Darwin theories on life sciences and relation to psychology
The theories of evolution and natural selection proposed by Charles Darwin in his book Origin of
Species are considered to be one of the most important theories in the study of life sciences
(Angell, (n.d.)). Through his theories on evolution, Charles Darwin introduced the idea of a
common ancestor monkey from which the animals and human beings were descended. He
proposed the idea that all of the living beings or creatures on the planet earth had a singular or
common set of genes (Darwin, (1859)). From this theory, he developed the idea that all living
beings had a common physical appearance which could be grouped under the umbrella of
comparative psychology (Frances, (2013)).
Darwin studied the human psychology in great detail and analyzed and interpreted the individual
differences which set an individual apart from the other humans despite the fact that they share the
same genetic constitution. This helped in understanding the similarities and the differences in the
behaviors of the human beings (Angell, (n.d.)). He introduced the ideas about the complexity of the
human nature which helped the scientists and psychologists in placing each individual separately
and apart from each other. Based on these theories and findings of Charles Darwin many scientists
could put together their assessments and evaluations about the science of human behavior. This
helped the scientists to expand their range of study in the field of human emotions, interactions, and
social communication and led to the development of evolutionary psychology (Frances, (2013)).

Does Genetics Play A Part In Your Future
Do genetics play a part in your future? Personally, I think this is an absurd accusation. Saying
that your genetics play a part in your future, in my opinion, is a bit stereotypical. If genetics
played a part in your future, then all Asians would be good at math and be doctors in the future.
All Middle Eastern people would grow up to be terrorist. All African American s would only be
able to succeed in life if they could rap a lyric or dribble a ball . All Hispanics would only have a
future if they opened their own taco truck or lawn service. All of these stereotypical examples are
irrational and unrealistic. Your outcome depends upon your vision of your future, your intelligence,
your willingness to achieve what you want to attain and the strategic use of knowledge that is
gained throughout life. So, do I believe geneticsplay a part in someone s future? I think it s safe to

Career Progression And The Career Development
The above quote by Confucius is often quoted, yet job happiness isn t as easily achieved. One of
the reasons behind job dissatisfaction is often the lack of planning. But career progression and the
ability find a job that doesn t feel like work requires meticulous research and focus.
In this guide, we ll explain career progression and the reasons why it s so important. We ll
provide a four step plan to help you develop a plan that guarantees you don t feel left behind when
it comes to achieving your career goals.
What is career progression?
The concept of career progressing is closely tied to the idea of career development. Career
development is the lifelong process of managing your circumstances in order to move forward to
achieving your personal goals. It s the management of your education, work and leisure activities in
a way that helps you achieve the kind of future you want.
As the definition of progress states, progress is a process developing gradually towards a more

acquisition decision would have been a wise one. In order to do that, we first did some research
to determine where Smucker s ranks in relation to their competition today. We then looked at the
actual 2011 financial results and calculated them in1992 terms to see the results of our
investment. The following table shows where Smucker s ranks in comparison to others in the
market: From the table above, we can see Smucker s has a solid market position. While they are
not at the top of any single category, they are squarely positioned in the market. We also wanted
to compare our valuation amount to the 2011 actual value of Smucker s in order to determine

of (29,500 * $29.88) and grow it from 1992 to the 2011 amount of $5.36B, we would have

Half Day Vs. Full Day Kindergarten: How a Southwest Washington Elementary School Score s
Measure Up The popularity of full day kindergarten (FDK) has grown over recent decades. The
number of students attending FDK in the United States (US) has escalated from 30% in the
early 1980 s to 55% by 1998 (Walston West, 2004), to 77% reported in 2011. This increase can be
posited as a reflection of societal changes and newly emerging educational priorities stemming
from papers and reforms such as 1983 s A Nation at Risk and 2001 s No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) which have increased focus on standards and accountability through high stakes testing.

Most education stakeholders support the extended day of FDK because they believe it provides
long term and short term academic advantages, behavioral benefits, as well as support to parents
in the workforce. Length of Day There have been positive and negative outcomes found in the
literature associated with the additional time a FDK student experiences. Early childhood
theorists such as Piaget and Vygotsky speculate that larger blocks of time are necessary for young
children to engage in the process of learning (Eliott, Kratochwill, Littlefield, Travers, 1996).
Cooper, Allen, Patall, and Dent (2010) state that benefits of FDK include higher academic
achievement, fewer grade retentions, easier transitions into first grade, better socialization and self
esteem, less hurried instruction, fewer transitions, lower child care costs, more learning
opportunities for low income children, and greater academic quality. A major argument repeated
in the literature is the additional hours of kindergarten provided in FDK better prepares children
for first grade which will result in decreased need for grade retention (Wang Johnstone, 1999).
Ideally, the extra time in the school day allows for teachers to provide a relaxed classroom
atmosphere in which children can experience kindergarten activities in a less hurried manner
(McConnell Tesch, 1986). The literature posits several negatives to the extra time

the right person for their country or not. They have been considering both his personal and
professional life. From his relationships to his success. Some say that his ties with other countries
can be very beneficial, while others disagree due to his lack of political experience.... Show more

That he has great negotiating skills, which would help America get its way with other countries.
However, these reasons that claim that his business skills are enough are overlooking the fact
that Trump has a long list of business troubles as stated in the article Donald Trump s Many
Business Failures, Explained . This article also stated that lost contracts, bankruptcies, deceptions
and indifference to bankers are only a few of the troubles in Trump s business life. Also, his net
worth isn t accurate either, as he himself admitted that he based his net worths off his own
feelings which often ended up being wrong (Eichenwald). And as a man who doesn t have any
political experience nor a good or honest history it s almost impossible to say that he knows how to

A Study Of Microbial Theory
Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the
advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of
microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying
fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer,
Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in
contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish
and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup,
Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing
simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or
taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species
inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network
approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community
common to all subjects of our study. Like macro communities, fundamental ecological processes
such as niche selection, dispersal or drift, play part in the formation and stability of the human
microbiome. By using microbial communities as model systems, characterizing their ecological
properties, assembly mechanisms and community dynamics, we can gain deeper

Audio Engineering
I am passionate about audio engineering and a can see myself doing it as a career. I have always
pushed myself to learn more about music, and the skills I have learned have helped me to realize
that I want to work in the recording industry. Starting a career in audio recording has traditionally
involved training through an informal apprenticeship system. With the rush of new technologies

  • 2. Power In The Count Of Monte Cristo What is considered power? How important is power? It writes history and causes conflicts. Money, wealth, success, and titles do not classify power, as opposed to common misconceptions. A true display of power requires control, influence, respect, and ability. In Alexander Dumas The Count of Monte Cristo, the main character, Edmond Dantes, is an excellent portrayal of these all aspects. Napoleon, depicted in Russia 1812, written by Victor Hugo, is known throughout the world as a dominant revolutionary war general and strikes as an image of respect. Aksenof, the unfortunate character in Leo Tolstoy s The Long Exile, exhibits an ascension to control, despite his series of disastrous events, when he becomes the dominator of his enemy. These characters from literature are clear examples... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Long Exile, Aksenof spares Makar, the man who had framed him for murder, from being flogged to death. This act of kindness guilt trips Makar into begging forgiveness for his acts. Ivan Dmitritch, forgive me! When they flogged me with the knout, it was easier to bear than it is now to look at you... And you had pity on me after all this... you did not tell on me... Forgive me for Christ s sake! Forgive me, though I am a cursed villain! And the man began to sob (Tolstoy 811). Aksenof, whose destiny had once been sentenced by Makar, now dominated Makar s life. Not through force and revenge, but pity and forgiveness, Aksenof had successfully obtained control over his enemy. In The Count of Monte Cristo, the count s final act of vengeance reveals his immense power and control. Stand up, said the count. Your life will be spared. Your two accomplices weren t so lucky: one of them is insane and the other is dead! (Dumas 434). Danglars is merely another string for the count to pull, and his fate demonstrates the count s absolute power and dominion over his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Dangers Of Complacency In The Military The Dangers of Complacency Complacency is a common theme throughout life whether it be civilian or military. Merriam Webster defines complacency as a feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them better: a complacent feeling or condition (Merriam Webster s online dictionary, n.d.). This state or feeling can be as simple as wanting to maintain the status quo. While it is important in civilian careers to battle complacency, it is of the utmost important to remain vigilant against complacency for military members because so many lives are at stake. This is why it is important for military members, not just leaders, to identify the dangers of and the ever growing status of complacency while implementing strategies to prevent and correct complacency. Complacency Causes Facing the Army One of the most frequent causes of complacency is over confidence. This can be seen in individuals and units after becoming comfortable with the operational tempo. • 5. Budget Deficit Budget Deficit For many decades, there has been a concern for the deficit within the United States. Many politicians, authors, newscasters, and citizens have expressed their distress in order to resolve or control the issue. Keynesian economic theory states that running a budget deficit is okay, as long as the deficit is not exorbitantly large and is not carried for a long period of time. Even though many experts agree with this notion, having a deficit at all is important to the present and future economic stability of a country. For the most part, the uncontrolled increases in spending and reckless tax cuts in the past have damaged the federal budget, which the White House and Congress have allowed to occur. President Bush has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, after the economy has recovered, the deficit becomes a problem. In the event that the current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the production of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise, which will make it harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will increase the strain on the American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government to intervene, due to the already high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal government are slated to grow from $155 billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359 billion. These extra costs are the result of both rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the federal government. In order to sustain the economic power and prosperity that the United States has created, major change must be implemented by government leaders, not by career politicians. When a budget is in deficit there are only two ways, other than faster growth in the economy, to bring it into balance. Spending must be cut or revenue increased. Obviously, cutting spending to many of the current governmental programs is difficult because they have already been implemented and deemed necessary. Increasing taxes is also a difficult issue for politicians to handle and for the public to accept. There needs to be a healthy mix of these two options that keeps the economy powerful, while ... • 6. Survival of Earthly Life Depends on Science and... Running Head: SURVIVAL AND SCIENCE Nature Articles Name of Student School Introduction The unprecedented upheavals in the environment in the last few decades cannot escape anyone s notice. Widespread and increasing global pollution, natural disasters of unusual intensities in more and more places, new and deadlier diseases, disappearance of animal and plant species, and disturbing signs even in the skies are among these. Seven serious observers publish respective opinions on the nature of these threats and recommend solutions. From their pronouncement, a common thread can be gleaned. Survival of earthly life today largely depends on science and technology. Body At the current rate of degradation, about 20% of the earth s surface is predicted to become extinct (Thomas et al, 2004). This was the finding of a study conducted on the effects of climate change in sample regions. The prediction placed the probability of extinction in three ranges, namely, about 18% minimum, 24% mid range, and 35% maximum. The investigated regions were the Queensland forests, Brazil for its vegetation, and South Africa for its Proteaceae species. The authors predicted that climate warming would add to other already recognized threats to global biodiversity. Loss of habitat is considered the greatest threat to the species in most regions. The interaction between threats is also predicted to produce the strongest impact of climate change. The affected species ability to take refuge in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I arrived, I met with twenty other participants and received instructions from a local community member. We were given gloves, large orange plastic bags, smaller plastic bags, and flags. The larger bags were for the garbage we collected, the smaller bags were for recyclable items (such as aluminum cans and glass bottles), and the flags were for needles and similar items that we could not collected safely. We divided into two group and headed in opposite directions up the beach to collect all the debris we could find. One of the main issues I researched was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics in the ocean affect marine life. Because of that, I understand the true impact that any debris, and particularly plastics, have in the ocean. They entangle animals, hinder their digestion, and transport of invasive species, to name just some examples. For these reasons, I believe that preventing debris from entering the ocean is paramount. I realize that participating in one beach cleanup is not going to save the ocean and the real problem lies in how humanity is using plastics. However, I want to help contributions the wellbeing of the ocean. Ultimately, that is why I participated in a beach cleanup event. The American dream exists, maybe it varies from one culture to another, but many persons witnessed how it became a reality. A plethora of people thinks is a myth, however, most immigrants know that it exists. The American dreamis defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism and the prosperity or life that is the realization of this ideal . As Adams, James Truslow say America is That dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement. • 11. Compare And Contrast The Outsiders Book And Movie The OUTSIDERS , a book and movie, portrays a small gang going through hard times. The Book and Movie may have the same plot but have small yet noticeable differences. Both stories take place around Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. These should be compared to show why sometimes movies get things wrong and why the book tends to be better, in this case they both stick to the plot with only a few missing or added details, such as the book is slower paced but has more detail, the movie misses or adds small details, and the movie destroys your thought of what characters look like. The movie is fairly similar to the book except for a few exceptions. One of the main things is that the movie is less detailed and is faster paced. The poverty level in the city is one of the highest in Massachusetts, violent crime has been on the rise for years, and the high school dropout rate is more than 50 percent. Growing up, many of my classmates struggled with schoolwork as a result of the language barrier and lack of funding for transitional bilingual educationprograms. Countless children, with limitless potential, eventually learned to see the futility in participating in a system which had abandoned them. While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns, the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011), GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010). The reason being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003). To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer service levels. When ten men in his cell were chosen to be executed, Maximilian offered to take the place of a man who had a wife and two children. The Nazis were more than happy to oblige. • 30. Theories Of Origin Of Species By Charles Darwin The ancient thinkers based their understanding of psychology on a philosophical hypothesis. While the ancient philosophers like Hobbes, Plato, Schopenhauer and the rest could describe and predict the different behaviors and mental experiences, none of them could explain the reason behind the particular behaviors. Charles Darwinwith his ideas in the Origin of Species gave a new dimension to the understanding of human and animal behavior and the field of psychologybased on the foundation of his evolutionary theory (Buss, (2009)). Charles Darwin theories on life sciences and relation to psychology The theories of evolution and natural selection proposed by Charles Darwin in his book Origin of Species are considered to be one of the most important theories in the study of life sciences (Angell, (n.d.)). Through his theories on evolution, Charles Darwin introduced the idea of a common ancestor monkey from which the animals and human beings were descended. He proposed the idea that all of the living beings or creatures on the planet earth had a singular or common set of genes (Darwin, (1859)). From this theory, he developed the idea that all living beings had a common physical appearance which could be grouped under the umbrella of comparative psychology (Frances, (2013)). Darwin studied the human psychology in great detail and analyzed and interpreted the individual differences which set an individual apart from the other humans despite the fact that they share the same genetic constitution. This helped in understanding the similarities and the differences in the behaviors of the human beings (Angell, (n.d.)). He introduced the ideas about the complexity of the human nature which helped the scientists and psychologists in placing each individual separately and apart from each other. Based on these theories and findings of Charles Darwin many scientists could put together their assessments and evaluations about the science of human behavior. This helped the scientists to expand their range of study in the field of human emotions, interactions, and social communication and led to the development of evolutionary psychology (Frances, (2013)). • 31. Does Genetics Play A Part In Your Future Do genetics play a part in your future? Personally, I think this is an absurd accusation. Saying that your genetics play a part in your future, in my opinion, is a bit stereotypical. If genetics played a part in your future, then all Asians would be good at math and be doctors in the future. All Middle Eastern people would grow up to be terrorist. All African American s would only be able to succeed in life if they could rap a lyric or dribble a ball . All Hispanics would only have a future if they opened their own taco truck or lawn service. All of these stereotypical examples are irrational and unrealistic. Your outcome depends upon your vision of your future, your intelligence, your willingness to achieve what you want to attain and the strategic use of knowledge that is gained throughout life. So, do I believe geneticsplay a part in someone s future? I think it s safe to say I contradict that statement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increase can be posited as a reflection of societal changes and newly emerging educational priorities stemming from papers and reforms such as 1983 s A Nation at Risk and 2001 s No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) which have increased focus on standards and accountability through high stakes testing. The rigorous standards and associated accountability have created a demand for more time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most education stakeholders support the extended day of FDK because they believe it provides long term and short term academic advantages, behavioral benefits, as well as support to parents in the workforce. Length of Day There have been positive and negative outcomes found in the literature associated with the additional time a FDK student experiences. Early childhood theorists such as Piaget and Vygotsky speculate that larger blocks of time are necessary for young children to engage in the process of learning (Eliott, Kratochwill, Littlefield, Travers, 1996). Cooper, Allen, Patall, and Dent (2010) state that benefits of FDK include higher academic achievement, fewer grade retentions, easier transitions into first grade, better socialization and self esteem, less hurried instruction, fewer transitions, lower child care costs, more learning opportunities for low income children, and greater academic quality. A major argument repeated in the literature is the additional hours of kindergarten provided in FDK better prepares children for first grade which will result in decreased need for grade retention (Wang Johnstone, 1999). Ideally, the extra time in the school day allows for teachers to provide a relaxed classroom atmosphere in which children can experience kindergarten activities in a less hurried manner (McConnell Tesch, 1986). • 43. A Study Of Microbial Theory Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study.
